I like Gong for takeaway. The food is very good. Excellent quality and flavours. Prawns with scallions, basil and ginger, is particularly good. No MSG (I believe). We have eaten in on a few occasions too. Sadly it is a little quiet, but the service is very good.

This restaurant is very quiet during the week. We felt very uncomfortable being the only people there. Because we were the only customers, the service was great, the staff were very attentive. The starters were all a bit small considering the prices but the main courses were a good size and very tasty. I'd recommend the sizzling chicken in garlic sauce. it wasn't on the menu but the kitchen made it anyway. I probably won't go back but it would be great value for a take away.

I have been to this restaurant once and had several takeaways which were nice. However after last nights experience NEVER AGAIN. It was out anniversary so as funds a bit tight at the moment we decided to order in, We ordered through an on line takeaway service and specifically asked for a 6.30 pm delivery. When I got home at 5.25 the order was there. I rang the restaurant and told them it was no good as my husband wasnt home yet and i had requested a 6.30 delivery. To cut a long saga short, the driver came back, snatched the bag out of my hand and reappeared at 6.30 with the same food REHEATED. It was inedible. Prawn toast was rock hard, shredded salt and pepper chicken was burnt, the veg curry was ok but my house special was thick and gloopy and tasteless. Very disappointing.

Regurlarly used this restaurant for take away so we decided to eat in. I feel we got the same quality as we get when we order take away so I think we will just stick to home orders. The staff were very nice though and the price is similar to most other chinese menu's.

Was there with my husband on wednesday for dinner, It was very quiet we were the only people in the place. Service was very good and staff very attentive. I had vegtable spring rolls for starters and my husband had a soup. The vegtable spring rolls could be worked on a bit as they were not very tasty. For main had beef in satay sauce and my husband had the duck. The sauce for the beef dish tasted very powdery and I was a bit disappointed with that. My husband was happy with his duck. Overall food was ok. Food very pricey for the dinner menu compared to the lunch menu. I would go back for the lunch menu again as the price is very good. Jeanseb Dublin.

We had lunch here on a snowy Sunday in December and there was only one other table occupied during our time there - so the place was a little low in atmosphere. We had the lunch special which offered a selection of starters and mains followed by tea or coffee for just €11.95, which is surely good value, even in these straightened times. For starters (between three of us) we had spring roll, barbecued spare ribs and a chicken and sweetcorn suit - all perfectly serviceable. For mains we had shredded squid with beansprouts and chili, fried prawn in black bean sauce and sweet and sour chicken - all with fried rice. The mains were tasty and of good-sized portions for lunch - my squid was particularly tender. Lunch for three for a shade over €35 is hard to grumble about - particularly when the food was tasty.

Had heard great things about Gong. Wednesday nights in Stillorgan clearly aren't the busiest nights so we were the only people in the restaurant bar a young couple and a man who left before we started our meal so atmosphere was a bit dead. Would like to see the place full though because I'm sure it would be great. Food was delicious. Had the shredded pork in garlic sauce, the sizzling prawn and the spicy beef with cumin between 3 of us. All dishes were delicious, the pork was magnificent. It was a little pricey but not overly. Overall a good dining experience, but I would like to come back on a weekend to see if the atmosphere would be better.

Really disappointed to see the bad reviews! Definitely came as a shock as I couldn't recommend this place more. Have never come across more friendly and polite staff in a chinese ever before. The first time I tasted Gongs (after being recommended to me by a big foodie) I thought I had died and gone to food heaven!! Although it is mostly take aways we get from here the food is always exceptional, fresh, huge portions and spot on every time! Would particularly recommend their shredded pork in garlic and chilli! The only thing I could ever fault them on is that sometimes when you call in an order they are too busy and tell you to call back in 40 mins or so, always apologetically mind you. Love the fact too that every 3rd time you order you get 10% off, and always get free prawn crackers!

Had my 30th Birthday dinner here. Ten of us went into Gong for dinner. We had an absolutely excellent experience. The starter platter was delicious, good squid, chicken salad, spicy dry rib. For mains we had really nice and perfectly cooked chilli prawns, stewed spicy beef, garlic pork, dry lamb shreds, dan dan mein noodles. The house wine was very fairly priced and drinkable and the staff were exceptional. One of my group mentioned that it was my birthday and the manager came out with a bottle of champagne on the house. Very decent, and rare these days. Good spot with consistent food.

Gong is fine. However, I can't give it the glowing reviews everyone else inflicts upon it for a few reasons: 1. On two separate occasions, the spring rolls I had for starters were accompanied by decidedly brown-edged lettuce. Now, come on - if you're going to bring lettuce in as a garnish, at least make sure it's fresh! 2. The food is fine. But, it ain't amazing! 3. Sometimes there's nobody there and the atmosphere is death. Flyering, Management? Now, mind you, when it is full, it's atmospheric all right! 4. Kind of an additional to point 3. On my last visit, my mother and I were the only ones there. And the manager began hoovering - HOOVERING! - around us, claiming it was a busy night last night. This is the way he deals with his only customers of the day? Why wait until we arrive? The place was empty. Hoover when there's nobody there. That's a big boo-boo. Having said all that the staff and manager are very nice and welcoming etc. But, they need to get themselves in gear to stay alive.

I was really really disappointed with the food here. I had the vegetable chow mein (which I always love from other places). It was really horrible, thje noodles were really fine and so mushy, they literally turned to slop the second you put them in your mouth. the sauce didnt taste like anything either. It was just a plate of tasteless mush! The vegetables were fine but the sauce and noodles ruined the whole dish. It was like a dish you had made at home yourself and then over re-heated it. Definitely will not be back!

I'm sorry to have read these bad review of this great resturant. I have eaten here many many times and have yet to have a bad word to say about it. The staff, especially the front of house is always wecloming and friendly.. the food is AMAZING and brought in a timely fashion not rushed. I have phoned up and even on a busy night have been accomodated. I would suggest GONG to anyone looking for a mid priced restaurant with top class food. Atmosphere has always been good, Decor is pleasant. Staff always friendly. Presentation brilliant. I hope that others whom have enjoyed GONG as much as I have place their reviews here. well worth a visit

We wanted a basic, but good Chinese meal, and booked at the last minute - managed to get table for 6.00pm even on Valentine's night. Unlike previous reviewers, we liked the decor - all sorts of weird quotes from people like Chrity Moore and Frank Sinatra - seemed to signify both Chinese new year and Valentine's Day. I also liked the table at the window overlooking the dismal vista of Stillorgan Shopping Centre! We wanted basic, and went for a mixed starter to share - then chicken curry and a sizzling seafood. We had sides of fried rice and noodles. The food was pretty good - curry reminded me of the way chinese currt tasted when I was just a teenager. Seafood was good too. There was way too much of everything. We only had 1 glass of wine, but the bill came to over €60. I think this is very over-priced for a basic Chinese meal, without a bottle of wine.

I went here with my boyfriend one night and was so shocked at what a dump this place is. The decor is shocking it feels like a cafe. The food was well below average and I nearly died when we got the bill, crazy prices for such a bad restaurant. Would never step foot near the place every again

10 of went here for a birthday celebration. I wasn't pushed as i wasn't happy with this on my first visit and unfortunatley this one was not much better. The restaurant was very busy and the service at our table was painfully slow however the food was good but i still think its a bit pricey.

went here out of the blue before a quick game of bowling and have to say it was gorgeous. the hot and spicy spare ribs, although they didn't come as expected were gorgeous and even managed to convert my boyfriend who doesn't normally like them. Both main's were a good size and the orange sorbet was a perfect end to the meal. reasonable value for money though follows in the trend now of charging for the side of rice but still lovely meal!

Came here on the basis of reviews, but the place was dead on a Sunday night -we must have been the only people for a good hour after the other two tables left! Food was quite good, it is a little twist on the traditional Chinese (they also have Korean, but failed to spot it on the menu?). Sweet and sour was excellent. Service was excellent, though the place was quite empty. Value was only OK -the set menu is good value, but felt that the rest of the prices were high for what you got. Would overall recommend a try -a lot of other people loved this place, but you can get better elsewhere

Went to Gong Restaurant twice and it was lovely, service really good. I saw one post that says the menu has changed and its a pity, one thing I notice that is missing is the scallops. Will definitely go back again based on previous experience and knowing the service is great and hopefully the food will still be lovely.

Have now visited Gong four times and really like the place and the servive is first class and the host is excellent. Food very good try the monkfish and pakchoy. service much quicker and much busyier Their 25euro dinner is without doubt the best value in the area and maybe Dublin . In these difficult times we need more places like the Gong

Awful! Genuinely the worst delivery chinese I have ever had. Food took an hour to arrive and when it did everything was cold. I'm sure this wasn't helped by the fact that the drink cans were stored on top of the food instead of in a separate bag. I never thought it could be possible to get prawn crackers wrong, but Gong has pulled this off with flying colours. Aromatic duck was aspirational in its description as being aromatic. Sweet and sour chicken was served with some form of salty black goo. Fried rice had hard, almost crystalised lumps in it. Vegetable spring rolls might have been edible if they weren't freezing cold. I give them one star for service due to the fact that the manager travelled to my home to give me a refund...although money was returned with the statement "now everyone is happy" instead of "apologies for the dreadful food" I cannot comment on the atmosphere in the restaurant but based purely on their food I would not recommend Gong's!

We slid in here from the aftermath of the snow on Saturday night with another couple. They live locally and are regulars and we used to frequent The Sichuan before it's departure to Sandyford. The menu definitely reminded me of it and with that I chose the cold shredded chiken and my husband the salt and pepper squid. My starter was extremely tasty and the peanut sauce had a great kick to it. My husband's squid was ok but not the best I have ever tasted. One of the others had the squid too and the deep fried wontons were my friend's choice which she loved. For main course we had two prawn dishes and two monkfish dishes and a vegetables with garlic sauce. All were absolutely delicious and nothing was left. I had no room for dessert but my husband had toffee bananas and my friend ice-cream. Two bottles of wine, water and some coffees were also consumed. We were then offered a drink on the house which I always think is a lovely touch. The decor is a bit basic but the food was fab - rather that than the other way around!

Myself and my wife visiting Gongs for the first time last night after all the positive reviews here. We were thououghly disappointed. The staff were very friendly but and the dumpling soup we had was delicious. For starters we had spicy pork ribs and peppermint squid. Eating the ribs was like picking at a carcass of a chicken after Christmas dinner. They were cut into tiny pieces and had very little meat on them. The squid was basically tasteless so we had to order a spicy sweet and sour sauce to dip it in. Then for mains we had sizzling prawns and chicken curry. The chicken curry was definitely the most bland curry I have ever tasted. It was so mild you could hardly tell it was curry. The sizzling prawns were just boring. Bland once again, we very little vegetables, so they looked as boring as they tasted. The decor of the restaurant reminded me of visiting cheap taco bars in mexico, very bare and minimalist. It works in some places, but here it just made the place look cheap. I will say that with the 3 course meal for €25 that it is good value. But at the price of quality it seems.

Really nice Chinese restaurant! I've only eaten here once and got a take-away, but when I went to pick it up I found the staff very friendly; they gave us a table to sit at while we waited and served us drinks. I really liked the interior of the restaurant and it seemed to have a lovely atmosphere! I'd really like to come back here and stay for a meal!

Gong is located over a bookmakers opposite Stillorgan Shopping Centre (lots of free parking!). The Korean element of the menu has been dropped and Gong's is now pure Chinese. The food is excellent. Real Chinese comfort food. The menu is quite extensive and also includes a €25 (at the time of writing) three course dinner menu: this contains around 8 starters, 8 main courses, and maybe a slightly smaller number of desserts. Great value and good wine list. The decor is modern, predominately in black and red (but not overpowering) with uplighting in the ceiling to give an airy and bright feel to the place. Having found it, we will be back.

Used to think this restaurant was good, however I now think it could do better. In Stillorgan the locals want restaurants that you can go to with their children as well as dinner for two or with friends. But this restaurant does not welcome children and this was for a first sitting. The guy who is the Manager/Partner couldn't wait to get us out quick enough. We are used to taking our children out to restaurants and always go to the first sitting as we understand that by 7.30pm the latest we need to be gone. The food doesn't seem to be as good as it was maybe that was because of how we felt we were treated??

The starter platter is particularly good value and tasty and the style of cooking sets this apart from other Chinese restaurants. My only complaint would be that the chairs aren't comfortable for an extended meal. I cannot recommend this highly enough.

We went, hoping to have some Korean food, and were disappointed to find that it seems to be gone from the menu. Regardless, we had an excellent experience. I started with won ton soup which was hot and tasty and perfectly seasoned. The other half had pan-friend dumplings and I suspect that he would crawl over broken glass to have them again - both the dumplings themselves and the dipping sauce was quite exceptional. For main courses, I had shredded lamb in aromatic sauce with a side order of prawn fried rice which was very pleasant and they were very generous portions. He had sizzling seafood. This was prawns, monkfish and king scallops in a very appropriate sauce which he had with Singapore noodles. Again, generous portions. To accompany all this we had one of the house wines: J.J. Williams Shiraz Cabernet 2006 which was at a perfect temperature and was smooth mellow and delicious. On arrival (and we had not booked) we were shown to a table which had lots of room for us, and was immaculately dressed with white linen, spotless cutlery and large cut glasses. We were immediately brought chilled water, which was replenished constantly during our meal. On placing our order we were also brought some prawn crackers which actually tasted of prawns. The service was at all times courteous and pleasant and our order was served quickly. The bottom line was just over €89, which included 10% service charge. A little pricey, but worth it for the quality of what we had. I added an additional tip because everything was so good. We shall definitely be returning! They also have a 'set menu' at €25 per person for three courses, which looks worth investigating.

I read a review of this place in a sunday newspaper which was quite good so i decided to give it a try. To be honest i wasn't expecting much as it is where the old Casanova's restaurant was located. The interior is very different, not like the stereotypical mirrors and dark tiles you see in many "Chinese" restaurants. I liked it. We mixed the Chinese menu with the Korean. The food was delicious and the place got more and more packed as we ate. The best part was the caramel banana at the end, the waitress came up and prepared it in front of us. I will go back again just for that. Its a must to go and try, just a pity it isnt in town as it would be booked out every night.

We stuck to the Korean dishes, but there is also an extensive Chinese menu. The starters of prawn pancakes and jellyfish salad were excellent. My first and definitely not last time eating jellyfish. The prawn pancakes comprised a flattened prawn with an omelet type dollop on each. This came with a nice Soya based dipping sauce. For the main course we had cold rice noodles, marinated beef and a squid dish. They were all good, but I particularly recommend the noodles (which is a full main course with nice sauce and a hard boiled egg on top) and the beef, which was very flavoursome, I am still unable to identify one of the flavours in it.

I visited this new restaurant recently with a friend mid week. I thought the food was great, I had mixed seafood with garlic and ginger. Its a pity that we were the only ones in the restaurant. I hope that word of mouth will spread about this place and they do well, the service is excellent, the place was pristine. Next time I go back I hope that there are a few more diners there which would make it a bit more comfortable. Definately give it the thumbs up and wish the place every success.

The decor is pristine but the atmosphere is quiet almost to the point of having to whisper. The food is nicely presented and tastes good. The service in pleaseant but the restaurant lacks charisma.

Have eaten here a few times with family and found it great. The atmosphere is nice and no rushing through. The staff were friendly and could offer suggestions for those not so familiar with Korean food! Hot and sour soup is delicious and while I did try some of the Korean food (tasty and interesting!) I have mostly stuck to the Chinese menu which is wonderful. There is an unusual spicy sweet and sour chicken dish which is yum and the king prawns are amazing! Will definitely be back again

Decided to try this last Saturday as we were going to the cinema next door. Up the stairs in the dining room the decor is great, a really authentic Korean restaurant, all new, minimalist style furnishings, and excellent lighting, just like as if you're in a downtown Seoul restaurant. Service is great, mostly family I'd guess, Korean and Chinese staff, a little inexperienced but seriously trying their hardest to make sure we enjoyed ourselves, and of course they have impeccable manners. Food was great, we both stuck to the Korean menu, the jellyfish I had to start was good, hot as in mustardy not spicy, my wife's prawns were world class. My main dish, the Korean pork was out of this world, the missus loved hers too but I've forgotten what she had. Wine was well priced. With a bottle of water, coffees and service (included at 10%) the bill was €98. Excellent night. We're going back.

Decor was unappealing but it offered a reasonably good service. Food was okay but it's not authentic Korean.
