Came here for my work Christmas party. While the food was ok it was nothing to write home about so I was slightly disappointed. The steak/duck on a stone is a novel idea but both meats were quite bland in taste and my colleagues' steak looked quite fatty. The chicken wings starter was very tasty as was the deep fried brie. Wouldn't be rushing back as found the staff a bit pushy/rude. However I probably would return if I was looking for some simple pub grub. The place was packed which suggests that the food is usually better than it was on this occasion.

I live quite near to The Step Inn so it's always been our family's "go-to" place for family occasions. We came in last weekend for our own daughters christening and the service, staff and food were all impeccable! From the moment I made the reservation they were really helpful and made sure things went according to plan for us on our daughters special day. Every single person at the party commented on the high standard of the food - which is a really nice compliment when you are throwing a party! The price was very reasonable and because it was a big function they gave us a really great discount. I've already booked for my sons communion in May - one less thing to worry about

4 of us came here for lunch last saturday. We all enjoyed the food, it was nothing special but good for pub grub. The dining area could do with a bit of a spruce up but ok for a bite to eat. Would come back but not in a huge hurry.

ate here last night with 5 others and i we all agreed that the food is really good value for what you get, the early bird is €16.50 for 2 courses, try the fish cakes which by all accounts were really good as were the burgers but beware the thai green curry is quite spicy. Waitress service was excellent and the call button facility on the tables is a great idea, all in all good service, value and food.

We went to the step for dinner on our anniversary, the food was fab. I was craving a good roast and wasn't disappointed. It was really busy and was in the early evening, unfortunately I think that this effected the service. The staff were attentive and with the electronic service button its easy to get their attention, but they didnt seem as cheerful as normal. I'll definitively be back, love the atmosphere and the food. Everyone is entitled to a bad day.

I've been to the step inn quite a few times, it's a lovely place to eat and or have a drink any night of the week. The staff are so friendly, welcoming and always very attentive. They can accommodate for large groups or families or people dining on their own. The food is a little expensive for pub grub but the main course delicious dishes are quite big and would fill most appetites. A little out of the way of public transport, driving there would make more sense. The restaurant area of the pub is modern, fresh and very comfortable. I'll be going back very soon!

Had a great pub lunch with the family. Arrived with two very young and hungry kids, the staff were great and took our order quickly and brought out kids meals first. Had great food, good atmosphere and wonderful service and reasonably priced

One of my favourite places to eat. The staff are very pleasent and has a good family atmosphere. The food is lovely and you don't have to wait too long. I'd recommend the Garlic Mushrooms, but beware they can be very very hot when just served. There's no need to dress up too well, so casual is good. You can either go for a quick bite, or a day out with food and drink.

Have eaten here countless times and have never been dissapointed, the staff are always helpful and food is plentiful and great value. If you go on a night when there is music keep your seats and sing along with them, suits all age groups, I really love it here.

Have eaten here a few times now.The quality of the food is consistently good, they have a childerns menu which is good. The menu is great for 'pub' food and the service great. A good atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon. Well worth a visit up the hill.

Not as impressed as on our previous visit. The food was okay pub fare, but nothing exceptional. And the two waitresses serving us could have been a bit more enthusiastic and friendly. A smile costs nothing!

I've eaten here loads of times and have yet to be d.isappointed. We arrived here for a quick bite without booking. We needn't have worried, we had our pick of tables as the place was practically empty... A sign of the times or just the fact it was Tuesday? Anyway I had the veggie goats cheese wrap with chips for €9.40 (great value), and it tasted like more! The staff are always friendly and don't mind that sometimes we all pay separately. I'd definitely recommend coming here at any point in the week

Myself and my partner had both been here before for food albeit not together. Last time I was here I loved the food so had been expecting the same. My girlfriend has a special dietary requirement which means she cannot eat yeast & dairy (no she is not coeliac) but this also limits your choices. The restaurant was pretty full for a thursday evening but we managed to be seated quickly, our table was dirty as we were being seated which is a small but important detail. I chose the Brie salad to start which was delicious, my girlfriend had the chicken wings and explaining her diet needs asked for no sauce or at least sauce on the side, still the wings arrived with some sort of sauce on them but not wanting to make a fuss she ate them regardless. One benefit to us hungry diners was the spped with which the starters were served. For mains I ordered the Homemade scampi, I love to have that when I come here and it did not disappoint. Again limited by her diet my girlfriend ordered the fillet steak, again asking for sauce on the. Yet again however the steak was served with Balsamic vinegar on the plate which she cannot have. Instead of complaining we ate our meals, she prefers to vent her complaints by not coming back to a place again. By all accounts however the steak was nice, a little overcooked but otherwise good. Desert thankfully was easier, one of the too few staff members accomodated my girlfriend by getting her pavlova without the cream and instead topped with some fruit. I had the homemade Banofi pie which again I enjoyed. Overall I found there to be not enough staff to cover the amount of customers and while one staff member was excellent and catered for our needs the other was less than impressive. I don't think we will be back again which is a shame, the food is nice without being overly ambitious. Price wise the main course is a touch expensive in comparison to what you get with your starter but overall its not too bad.

I am a big fan of the Step Inn. I am local and myself and my boyfriend go there for a bite to eat fairly regulary. I think the food is great and despite other reviews I think its quite reasonable. The wings are fantastic and the burgers are great. The staff can be friendly however some are a little 'icy'. Generally a nice place to eat and very comfortable pub

i used to eat here all the time as i really liked it. but this visit didnt inspire me to want to return. i had the early bird but all u save on some starters and mains is a euro. the menu has changed and all my favourites are gone off it. the starter wasnt very good.i had the chicken kiev and it was so tough i had trouble cutting it. salad was nice. i will be back though as every other time i have eaten here it was delicious so im putting this down to a bad experience.

Met a few friends for dinner here. menu had a great selection of food especialy since it is pub grub. They cater very easily for celiacs as items are marked on the menu and they are very friendly so no problem questioning anything. I would reccomend here for a nice meal at very reasonable prices, they have extended their early bird to every night all evening 2 courses for €17 or 3 for €21.

I am a big fan of The Step Inn. The staff are friendly and efficient. The food is always good. I understand what other reviewers say about prices but portions are always generous. Lunch menu is good value. It is far superior to other pubs in the surrounding areas in relation to food.

Went here with my boyfriend a couple a weeks ago for some Sunday grub and we were both really disappointed. We waited nearly an hour for our food, with people who arrived way after us being served. We guess they forgot our order. When it did arrive the chips were cold and the salad wasnt great. I didnt like the way they threw the salad in with the bowl of chips. We both had the chicken dish with the mushroom sauce. The chicken and sauce was lovely but everything else was not great. Its not like a pub at all, you have to sit in a certain area in the corner of the pub and all the tables were on top of each other. it wasnt exacly cosy, was more like a cafe. Tryin to get the waitresses to get you a drink was also virtually impossible. Food aint cheap either. Def wont be going back!!

We live close by and have come here when not bothered to cook! Food is quite nice,! This place is waaaaaayyy overpriced for the current climate and really will start loosing costomers inluding myself if they dont revise their price list soon. Value isnt that great for what you get with the starters. 4 prawns for €7 and 4 garlic mushrooms for €6, of course you get plenty of salad with them but I dont get starters any more just cause they are such a rip off! Meal portions are huge! I recomend the fish and chips, v tasty. However going out for a quick bite here will set you back €40! i would rather stay at home and eat toast!!!!

My son is a big fan of the chicken wings here so begged me to drop in. We shared a large bowl of wings between us and a big portion of fries. The wings were pretty good but could have done with a little more sauce and the fries excellent. The place was very busy, decor nice and comfortable, service very friendly. I'll recommend!

I used to eat here all the time years ago so when I was passing through Stepaside on my way to Powerscourt a few weeks ago I decided to stop off here. I was so disappointed. Sure the decor has improved but its not much use when its at the expense of good quality food. I ordered the veg quiche, which after a long wait turned out to be a very small portion of broccoli quiche, with a bit of lettuce cover in soy sauce on the side. You'd get much better in a cafe for a couple of euro's less. The staff while friendly were clearly under pressure, even though the restaurant wasn't full. This place used to be jammed packed years ago on Sunday lunchtime. It's a pity!

I used to eat here regularly, and I always found the food nice, but it has gone a way down lately. The food quality has gone down and it's over priced in the current economic climate. Why they have a race night on a friday night is beyond me. It just ruins the atmosphere of the place.

I used to eat here regularly when I lived in the area. I still love to drive to Stepaside just for the food here. It is definitely the best pub-grub I have ever had. The food is certainly above average and well priced. True are the previous comments about the service...it is not great, but not terrible either. It is a pub after all, not a fine dining restaurant. The fish here is lovely and the chips are fab! I have tried almost everything on the menu and the food quality is fairly consistent. The seating and atmosphere here are great. I would definitely recommend it for pub-grub if you are in the area.

Myself and my boyfriend eat here reguarly enough for lunch. The selection of food is reasonable enough. The service we find to be slow and you can be waiting for up to 20 mins for someone to take your drinks order so we also try and order the food with that as well as you dont know how long you could be waiting for them to come over to you again! Overall though it is decent pub grub and a nice relaxing place to sit and enjoy the food as long as you dont mind slow service.

Big let down this place turned out to be.. Just moved to the area and was looking forward to trying the food here. We sat down and were handed menus and left sitting for about 20mins after trying to get the blond waitress/bar girls attention, she had no interest in serving us, eventually my girlfriend went up to the counter to order as we were starving, and she just looked at her and walked away! After asking her three times, then she took our order. Service was really bad throughout the rest of the meal, food is ok but wouldnt be going back as felt like we were intruding on the waitress/bar girls time!!

I made the mistake of going here on a Sunday.... lots of kids running around which was not what I wanted. However, the food was good value and I was very pleased with what I got for the money. Service was a bit hit and miss but overall, if you are looking for a quick something to eat which won't break the bank, this is a good bet.

This is a great little local pub, fantastic food and great value. Main courses range from burgers, yummy salads, steaks and a fantastic belly of pork stuffed with clonakilty pudding!!! Prices from about €13 - €30. Its quite modern and is lovely for a relaxing evening and nice few drinks. There is normally music or band playing on a saturday night which is great fun!

I was quite impressed with the food here. They do a soup and sambo combination at lunch time which for 7:50 is very good value. It's a pity other pubs don't follow their lead. Service was pleasant and reasonably quick. I know that I will be back.

Popped in for a quick lunch today. It is typical bar food and typical prices for same. The service was very good, as the salad I got had a big chicken breast on top which I moved most of on to another plate to get the the salad, the girl came over unprompted and asked was there something wrong with it. Most places don't seem to care so I was impressed by that. I will try the burgers the next time as they seem to get good mentions.

The Step Inn's old colour was better but in Ireland it was one of the best restaurants I've been to. Food was great the Value was alright and the service was brilliant. Definitely 5 Stars!

Stopped here for a bowl of soup at lunchtime recently. It was mushroom soup and the best I have tasted in ages - and plenty of it, accompanied by lovely brown bread.

I've been here a couple of times to eat in the bar area, food and service have always been good, great steak and burgers. However, last weekend we couldn't get a table in the bar so we went to the new restaurant entered through the back of the pub. Lovely, cosy little place. Great chicken wings and nachos to start, others in the group were happy with their burgers but I ordered one of their fancy pizzas. It was dreadful! I only got a margarita but it was covered in asparagus, which was not on the menu. Also the base was covered in flour, as if the plate had a layer of flour before the pizza was put onto it! So a bit of a disappointment but as I said the others were happy, and we did have lovely starters and wine. Service was slow, we waited about 40 mins for starters, and they could only give us 2 menus between 4 of us! I would probably go back but would definitely not order a pizza again.

Waited 30 minutes for my order at lunchtime. Wasn't even that busy. Had to leave before the order came. Been there before and food was really nice. I guess variable service.

Great local place to eat for those of us in the immediate area. Great burgers, prompt service, though could be friendlier. Nice to know there's a good eatery 'around the corner' that’s well priced and comfy - with or without kids.

Had lunch here on Monday. Service was very prompt (essential at this hour of the day) and friendly. The decor is modern but cosy and comfortable. The food was quite good as pub grub goes. Two of us shared a goat’s cheese salad and chicken panini between us and we both enjoyed it a lot. I would drop in again for a bite.

The place is ideal for Sunday lunch and have gone up quite a lot in the past. I was child free on Sat and decided to pop up for lunch. We were waiting over 40 minutes for our lunch to be served, time was ticking as we had to be back to pick up the kids... Other tables that came in after us were served before us and when I did mention it to the girl she had a face on her. I usually find this place friendly so was disappointed with the reception we recieved and would think twice before returning again as service is a must for me

I have eaten here many times & have never had any complaints. The Chicken burger is gorgeous and the chicken Havana which is outstanding. The service is very friendly & very accomodating. It has a lovely atmosphere. I would recommend it.

Went here today for lunch and was impressed. Nothing too lavish but for pub food it was satisfactory. The pub is nice and cosy and there is a separate restaurant area as well as an outdoor area. The service was also very good and quick considering it was a busy lunch time. I went for the cheddar cheese and bacon burger while my other half went for the goats cheese salad. The burger was big and tasty but the chips with skins on were excellent. The goats cheese salad was also delicious. Will be going back.

I think this is a very nice restaurant. It is quite an elegant aura in the restaurant with a beautiful granite walled bar and the option of a take-away with the eastside pizza. The food is very good depending on the chef. Some days i go and i thoroughly enjoy the meal other days not so much. There is no consistency in the food quality. Otherwise it would be a big hot-spot.

Ate here last Monday evening, was coming home from work and popped in for something light. There were a few Lads at the bar drinking pints and nobody eating, it was a bit strange. I had a burger and it was a burger, nothing to write home about. Followed by a Cappucino which was OK. Sorry Guys I wont be rushing here to eat.

I work close by so this is a regular haunt for Friday lunch and the main reason I go is for the fresh cut chips and beef burgers. I did make a mistake one day by ordering the bangers and mash (nice but very small portion). Service is good and speedy (which is what you need on work lunch)

Food is fine, nothing special. It's pub grub. I was here for lunch a few months ago and I had the club sandwich - not easy to get too excited about a club sandwich! My colleague had the lamb stew which didn't have any lamb in it, but the waitress took it back and sorted it. Some of my friends eat here on a regular basis and say they are happy with what's on offer.

We were lucky enough to be seated during the busy sunday lunch rush. Service was prompt and the servings were generous, I plan to eat here again on my next visit to Dublin.

Decided on here for Sunday Lunch...we turned up without a reservation and were seated within a couple of minutes. It's really cosy and the seats in the restaurant are so comfy...i could have sat there all day. The menu was pretty basic and seemed expensive for what was on offer but the meal we had was lovely and the portions were huge. Would definitely go there again.

I am completely astonished at the good reviews to this place. Have been here twice in past 3 months (and the second time was beyond my control) and have found this the worst place I have EVER had the misfortune to dine in. Let me start with the most ignorant staff. Picture this scenario!!! Walking into a empty restaurant and snapped at. After grudgingly been shown our table we endured a 20 minute wait for our order to be taken followed by a 30 minute, yes 30 minute, wait for our food to arrive. The food was adequate in taste but paltry in size. 17 euro for a chicken fajita is excessive, especially when there are only 3 cremated tortillas with the dish. To cap it all off I had to prompt the oh-so-busy waitress to remove the plates when finished! Hopeless, completely hopeless.

Have eaten here on a Sunday evening recently and was very happy with both the service and the food. The restaurant was quiet busy but only had to wait at bar about 10 minutes for a table. The garlic mushrooms were divine. The staff were friendly and could not be faulted on service. Overall I was very impressed with the food and service.

The food is great and the portions are huge, but unless you want to wait a while and have no problem with rudeness, you should probably move elsewhere. If they could sort out the restaurant, this would be a great bar as it has everything else.

We have eaten quiet often in the Step Inn as my brother and his family just live round the corner. I have to say I always go for the bangers and mash as its just fab and sometimes have the soup. My husband is more adventurous and will always have something different. Its a very child friendly pub as well as long as they are out before 8pm. good value for money and a nice warm atmosphere

I have been a regular customer for some time but no more. The food is good, the value not great, the waiting not good either but the complete lack of any restaurant management and the persistent rudeness of certain management (not the restaurant serving staff) has made me and my usual eating party move elsewhere. Good luck to the next people who take our place and wait and wait and wait............ I would love for the owners of the Step Inn to take comments on board.

The portions are huge! The place to go if u want to stuff yourself. I had a goat’s cheese salad the last time I visited. It’s very generous on the cheese - not good if you want to be healthy. Delicious all the same.

This is pub food at it's best. A good selection of dishes to suit every taste and children very welcome. The only downside is having to wait for a table. I believe they only do bookings for groups of four or more.

Have eaten here a few times in the past few months and would agree with most of the other reviews. The service isn’t great and the food isn’t great value. The last time we went there was problems eating in the lounge area even though there seemed to be plenty of other people doing it. The seemed to may a big deal out of it.

Nice food and good value but the service is terrible. I don't blame the staff, they are rushed off their feet. The restaurant is completely understaffed at weekends for the volume of customers. The length of time you're left waiting is ridiculous and half the time, something has been forgotten and if you ask for it, you'll be lucky to see the waitress again before the end of your meal. Shame, as the food is nice but the service completely lets this place down.

Went there on a Saturday night. Food is gorgeous, but was a bit disappointed with a staff. The girl serving us was a bit rude. But overall atmosphere is warm and friendly. Worth visiting if you are starving as food is delicious and portions are quite big.
