I recently moved to Stepaside and was really looking forward to eating at The Box Tree. Last weekend we had visitors from the UK and so decided to treat them to an early evening dinner, on the clear understanding that the table was to be vacated by 20:15. We sat down to eat at 17:45 and we were ready to leave at 19:10, a hour ahead of schedule !
The food was very good, certainly living up to the chef's reputation. The service was professional but was really very rushed. The rushed service, despite the cozy decor, created a McDonalds like experience. 2 Course Dinner for 4 came to €170.00 including tip... . ....A rather disappointing and embarrassing experience

This was my second time here for lunch. We all had the fish cakes to start which were excellent. They werent very big but contained lots of fish and had a nice crusty outside which is rare when you order fishcakes in resturants.

For mains I had the pumpkin rissotto which was very nice but the texture of the pumpkin was not great. It was overcooked and had a slimy texture. My companions both ordered the chicken which they said was excellent. We didnt have dessert so I cannot comment on that.

I ordered a glass of which must have been open a long time as it had no flavour. The service was very good and are waitor was very friendly and attentive.

The one issue, I find the lunch menu very limited and although most places dont have a huge selection I find this restaurant have maybe limited the menu too much particuluary when they dont change it often.
I will definelty return once there are some new options to choose from !

Went for Sunday lunch, set menu at €22 for 2 courses. Had the starter of fish cakes, which were good, crispy on outside and moist and tended. Soup was also good. The beef roast was ok, too much meat, under done for me and little in the way of sides with a few small duck roasted potatoes and carrots. A nice restaurant, with good service and nicely paced between courses, Worth a visit.

The restaurant has been getting positive reviews and I do not propose to buck the trend. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service good. My group had the foie gras (excellent), fish cakes ...good, sole tempura good and goat’s cheeses brilliantly presented and excellent. The mains included the Special steak, venison, duck, cod and also chicken. The presentation was super and all were happy with the taste and texture of the food. However with the exception of the steak eater all were disappointed with the very small portions served and two of the company have small appetites. The prices are on the high side and the unfortunate point is that 4 out of 5 left the restaurant still a little hungry.

Had a night out here with 3 others last Saturday - only the second time we have been there and it was again a great success! A bit more pricey this time as on the previous occasion we had eaten off the 'early evening' menu which is fantastic value..this time we on the full a la carte which is distinctly more pricey! Having said that service was faultless, and the food was superb. All three courses were really excellent quality food. Restaurant was busy and atmospheric, its also nice and stylish as it the 'Wild Boar' attached to it where we had drinks before hand. We will be back again hopefully soon.

Four of us had an excellent experience at the Box Tree, our first time there. Everything was brilliant. We arrived early, shown to the bar (Wild Boar) for a couple of drinks while waiting for our table. The dining area was pleasant, though a tad loud, as there was a full house that day (good sign). The meal was superb, the wines matched perfectly and the service was spot on. The whole experience was a pleasure. The staff were very knowledgeable about the food and wines, giving us good guidance. We'll definitely be back again.

On a quiet Saturdays we had lunch in the Box Tree. It was empty when we arrived, so we got good attention and well cooked food. It was gorgeous food well presented and great flavours. It was good value for money except for the child's course. I wish they would realise a 4 year old is not half an adult. They should Taylor the food for them and don't overcharge. If they cater for the kids they will get the adults especially in the day time. Overall well be back for more delicious food.

We have been to the Box Tree on numerous occasions and we absolutely love it but on this occasion we were very disappointed. The host on our arrival did not even acknowledge our presence with a hello or good evening, nothing! When I did ask what specials they had on he shoved the menu across the counter for me to look at instead of actually talking to us.I had two other people in my party and we all felt that he was so rude that we would not be spending our money where service was not on the menu.A shame because when it first opened they couldn't do enough for you!
