I have been a customer of this restaurant for over 3 years now and i once again had a beautiful meal there last night. The service is attentive but not in your face! The athmosphere is lovely - beautiful background music with suttle lighting. The food is always spot - on! My personal favourite starter is the Prawn and Avocado starter. This restaurant is great for either families, girly nights out for for couples - due to the different seating areas - so all are happy!!!! Keep up the great work and looking forward to returning soon.

This is one of our very favourite restaurants for both couple dining and a family meal out. They do a great value early bird and kids eat free (one per adult) on Sundays. Lovely atmosphere, friendly and attentive staff and the food is superb.

My wife and I visited this Italian restaurant on a Thursday evening. Car parking and access was good. Restaurant is modern and spick and span. Only a small number of clients. Room was hospitable and reasonably warm. We ordered from the a la carte and the food quality was excellent. Only one issue concerning my wife's ceasar salad - there was no parmasan cheese on it and the waiter did not offer it and we had to ask. The food was better than average and service was excellent. The menu choice for main courses is a bit limited if you exclude the enormous choice of pizzas. We will defnitely be back. Recommended.

This has become a local favourite of ours! good, simple, fresh food at reasonable prices. For olive fans, I recommend the bowl of olives! the pizza is also good as is the salmon main course. Overall, excellent value!

Went here with a grabone voucher so am basing review on value of voucher rather than normal cost. Quite impressed with the quality of the food and overall service here but it is a little basic in culinary terms but it serves its market well. Had a prawn cocktail to start which had the biggest freshest prawns I've had in quite a while which really impressed me, calzone pizza as a main which was very tasty in the middle if a little doughy on the edges. My partner also had prawns to start but in a tomato and basil sauce which was lovely. This is a reasonably priced location and makes no bones about the clientele it's looking to attract with free kids menu etc. and yes it does attract families with kids but once you know that in advance, you'll have a good meal, that won't cost the earth in a decent dining room and thats not half bad, will certainly be back here - with or without a voucher!

I went to lunch here with some friends on Saturday we were the 1st to arrive. By the time we finished our starters the place was full off kids ........ having 2 small girls myself I understand you can not keep them seated all the time. We didnt know at the time of booking that all kids meals were free. The food was fab, portions were big Baileys Coffee was the best ever. I would go back again with family but defo not a place to go with friends without children. We were a bit uncomfy just sitting there after out wine with all the kids about so we left & went down to the bar below.

I went here with my girlfriend on a Sun evening and the large restaurant was practically empty except for two other tables. It didn't help that they offer free kids meals on Sat & Sun to 6pm. We had a GrabOne deal which gave us two starters, two mains and two glasses of wine for €30. We started with antipasti misto (€9.65) and Bruschetta Al Romana (€5.45). Both starters were quite tasty - the antipasti in particular was large enough to share. There was a 15-20 mins wait until the mains arrived. My 10oz steak (€21.95) was ordered rare and didn't disappoint (it was actually bigger than described) and came with sliced potatoes and a pepper sauce. The only negative was that there was no accompanying vegetables. The vegetable pizza (€15.95), on the other hand, was disappointing - it was doughy and lacked toppings hence half of the pizza was left on the plate. Other negatives on the night - we asked for a glass of orange juice, a pretty standard request, and were told that they didn't have any. We also overheard the table beside us ask for apple pie for desert and were told the same. Furthermore, the was a distinct lack of vegetarian options on the menu - unusual for a contemporary Dublin restaurant. The negatives left a bitter taste and marred the positives. I've marked the meal on basis of how much it would cost (€66 before tip) rather than €36.20 + tip (incl our €3 steak supplement and apple juice €3.20) which we paid, as that will be the exception, rather than the rule. Overall an underwhelming experience and I will not be returning, especially at the full price 'value'.

Had bought a boarsd deal which entitled me to a 3 course meal for 2 and a bottle of house white, for €40. The staff were very pleasant an we were allowed order anything off the menu without any supplements which was great. I got the foccacia to start and my boyfriend got spinach tortellini. For mains i got fillet stack an he got the special of the day which were lamb cutlets. An for dessert we got ice-cream an the special of the day lime and blueberry baked cheesecake which was delicious. The only complaint i would have was that the restaurant was absolutely roasting. about 15 minutes before we left they put on the air conditioning. When we go back ill know to ask them to put that on if its warm again .Definitely a great place to go. Would reccommend it to friends

A lovely little family run restaurant. The service is wonderful and the food excellent. The pizza's are very tasty and more than enough for one person!! The manager is very personable and is more than happy to reccomend something from the menu. The lasagne is one of the best i have ever tasted.

This is the restaurant that serves the BEST CHOCOLATE FUDGE CAKE in Dublin. So far, I have tried many chocolate cakes in Dublin and they serve the BEST. Their chocolate fudge cake is cold at the outside but warm inside. the chocolate is simply irresistible and the combination of cream make it heavenly. I have recommended this restaurant to all my friends. It is well worth a visit. The early birds are not that nice though. but it's a la carte dinner is delicious.

My husband and I came here as we had picked up a voucher - 3 courses each and bottle of wine for €40. We were expecting a limited menu but were told we could have anything from the full menu. Hubbie had prawns, fillet steak with extra side order and apple and blueberry crumble for dessert. I had foccacia genovese, special dish of the day ( chicken) and banoffi. All of the food was amazing, the portions were so big I couldn't really eat the dessert. We were allowed to choose a different bottle of wine and were told we just had to pay the difference. When the bill came they said we didn't owe anything and they had given us the extras as a freebie!.Decor is fab and lovely feel to the place, staff and Manager all very pleasant. We noticed they had a very good kids menu for €6.95 including drink and they have an early bird. We will definitely go back, can't wait.

We often visit La Dolce Vita and are never disappointed. Both Lunch and Evening menus quite extensive and good value for money. The new cocktail menu is a treat, a very enjoyable start/end to a great meal! Love the new decor, would like to see word getting out about this hidden gem as not always as busy as it should/could be. Aside from that, always enjoy our visits.

I work in Sandyford and have been coming to this place off and on since he was at the old place across the road. I think I've fairly much tried everything on the menu at this stage. Very good pizza's - nice a thin base the way it should be. Good solid pasta dishes and old favourites. lasange/bolognaise. Don't know why they bother with the panini's as for me they're just below par every time. The portions are big so save room before you go here. It's not cheap but you get your money's worth! Even though the new place is very nicely decorated, for me it's more a place for lunch than for dinner, but that's maybe because there's no real difference between the lunch and dinner menu!

We booked a table in this restaurant at the end of January 2011. Thought the decor was ok. We were seated at our tables and left there. We had to ask for menus. After numerous requests, we were finally served our main course 2 HOURS LATER. Spoke to some other prople afterwards in the bar and they had a 2 HOUR WAIT as well. Got no apology or explanation. Food was good, but hell, who wants to sit around waiting for 2 HOURS.. Wont recommend it and will not be going back.

I have been here a good few times and the food is always lovely. Nice big portions. The service is not the best and I find some of the staff a bit snotty. The food makes up for it though thats why I go back. I'd defo recommend the spicy bolognase, brushetta and the banoffie.

My first visit it since it moved across the road. The decor is great and we were all very pleasantly surprised by the fantastic food. Every dish was a s good as the next. And it's great value too. I'll certainly be returning for a hearty pasta dish again.

After visiting La Dolce Vita on a number of occasions when it was across the road we were anxious to try it since it moved. But we were extremely disappointed in both the food and the service. The restaurant itself is tastefully decorated however the entrance below is quite off putting around the bar area outside. The menu is full of nice dishes however when my chicken pesto arrived it was warm not hot and far too greasy, my partner had lasagne that was overcooked and unappetising..both were not finished and when we said to the waitress..shoulders were shrugged and no apology given. We then waited over 40 minutes for our plates to be taken away and even longer for coffees. They need to brush up on both their customer & managerial skills..hence we will not be rushing back!!!

I ate at this restaurant a few years ago before the move and really liked it. When a colleague mentioned it had moved a few weks back we decided to try it for lunch - I'm so glad we did! We've been back twice in the last few weeks and the food has been consistently good both times. I tried the ravioli and lasagne on the second trip - both were hot, tasty and good sized portions. My colleagues were equally happy with their choices which included cajun chicken caesar salad, penne with chicken & pesto, bolognese and others. The restaurant is bright, comfortable and nicely decorated with some very nice artwork on display. The table service can be a little up and down depending on who's working however the managment are always pleasant, helpful and receiptive to any feedback. Highly recommended.

Party of six for a work lunch. Serivce was quick but could be a bit friendlier. We ordered quite a variety of dishes and everybody was happy enough with the taste - but not necessarily overhelmed. Slightly overpriced for a lunch menu.

Visited the New premises in Sandyford on Thursday night for the first time after being regulars in the old premises in the village for years. In fairness the new place is bright and very tastefully decorated but the service was a complete letdown. We had a table booked for four people. When we arrived (The first two) we spied 2 further family members coming in the door. We asked could we change the table to 6 (The place was not full). Well one would think we had asked to move the table to the Car Park with the reaction we got. After all six were at our table we ordered our Food and Wine and the Wine was just placed on the table in an Ice bucket with no offer to taste or pour. Food arrived and I have to say was tasty and good value but plates were cold. As pasta does not retain heat very well I feel plates need to be at least warm. Halfway during the meal a waiter came over and asked was all okay and was asked why the food was served on cold plates to which the response was to go away without comment and clean a table across the aisle from us. The owner came over at the end of the meal and asked and was told our reaction, He did offer a reduction off the bill which was refused as this was not the point. While the food and ambiance was good, this restaurant really has to up its game and deal with issues such as friendliness and the lack of training with the table staff. As it is local we will probably give it another chance to see if things improve.

The food in La Dolce Vita is quite good, flavoursome and well presented. The service is fine as are the prices........ all the ingredients are there for a good restaurant, except one The Atmosphere, there is none. Maybe it was because the place was empty,or the lighting too bright but it was more geared to a Sunday afternoon lunch rather than an evening meal. Think I will stick with the city centre for now.

My children have gone from babies to young adults visiting La Dolce Vita and its as good as the first day we visited. A little gem. The pasta dishes and pizzas are consistently good. Having eaten pizza in Italy, I can still say La Dolce Vita are up there with the best. With the big move imminent across the road to larger premises in the Sandyford House upstairs, I'm looking forward to enjoying an even better experience with live music some nights. The staff are always friendly and attentive. I would eat in La Dolce Vita every night if I could, the food is that good! Dont tell everyone tho - I like keeping the place to myself. Well done guys and best of luck with the move.

This restaurant is within walking distance from where I live, which is one great advantage! Food is great, value is great, and they also do takeaway. Staff are really nice also, which is always a big plus. I'd like to encourage anyone local to support this restaurant, they've been there for a few years now and I can't fault them. I only wish they had a bigger premises (but still near my house :-), I reckon they could easily fill more tables if they had them.

This is a little gem as stated in a previous review. I went based on what menu pages had to say. Excellent food and service. Absolutely gorgeous garlic bread. I had an excellent spicy beef and pasta dish which was excellent. My companion was very pleased with her pasta dish and we will both return. Two very small gripes. I would like to see fresh Parmesan in a proper container (was in a sprinkler container but we had to take the top off to get it out) and also a wine list even though we were only ordering a half bottle. Only 3 to choose from if I remember correctly. But what we choose was fine for lunchtime. This restaurant deserves to do well and I hope to go back again even though I live on the opposite side of the city. I only wish I had a restaurant of this quality on my doorstop.Well done and thank you for a very pleasant lunch.

My girlfriend and I had lunch here before I left for a trip abroad. It was the first time I was here, though my girlfriend has lunch here at least once a week as she works nearby. One of the best pasta places in Dublin (and in many other cities in Europe). We had the spicy seafood pasta and salmon pasta with cream. We shared a bruschetta as a starter. It was fresh, very tasty and left a very pleasant after-taste. As I'm used to spicy food I'm often disappointed but this dish had a serious zing to it. A very cosy place and I'm told it gets crowded quickly. Will definitely go there for dinner one of these days. The service was impeccable, however with only four patrons that wouldn't be too difficult. The lunch prices are very good, especially as the food is excellent, around a tenner a dish. Highly recommended.

What a lovely little place. We stumbled upon it and saw that on Saturday and Sunday children aged 12 and under eat free before 6pm, and having two 12-year-olds with us we went in! The portions and choice they get are great (eg lasagne with special kind of potato fry things), and they get a drink too (eg Fanta). We had the early bird and we both loved the fettucine with smoked salmon, soft silky red onion and spinach and brandy sauce - delish! Nice mixed salad and chicken caesar salads for starters. The homemade desserts were absolutely gorgeous trat classics: a creamy and light delicious Tiramisu, a very good banoffi and a warm chocolate cake (not sure if this last one was homemade). But the main thing was the very friendly, relaxed but extremely efficient service. This place has a lovely personal touch, cosy intimate feel and good food - I would heartily recommend it. And that offer of kids eating free is a really great deal too...

Very good. The best choice in South Dublin for italian cuisine. Family friendly but quiet, considering the few seats available, is a good value both for the early birds (italian coffee included) and for the menu. Book in advance.

We've eaten here on a number of occasions and have always enjoyed the experience. Service is a model of politeness and helpfulness that many more pretentious establishments could learn from - and apart from friendliness these are the only attitudes we've observed. The food is good value, as is the wine, and the only slight negative is the proximity of other diners, who can be quite close depending on the table you get. After a while you even forget about this, as conversation tends to flow giving the place a comfortable buzz.

Im in here for lunch at least once a week, this week its been twice. The pastas are all delicious, but the calzone piccante is by far my favourite. There are a few chairs outside which are great for the sunny days we've had this week. The staff are great, very efficient and really friendly. There is good parking outside and I always have plenty of time to fully enjoy my food. Great value with all pastas and pizza around the €10 mark

We visit here regularly. The food is always good and the service excellent. The menu is mainly pizza and pasta but there are often wonderful specials such as salmon lasagne and baked cod. Great place to bring kids in the early evening but it does become more intimate in the late evening. Also the deserts appear to be mostly homemade. Early bird menu is one the best value menus around without any compromise on quality. The house wine is good quality wine for the price. Well worth a visit.

La Dolce Vita is a lovely little place. I decided to go there for lunch today. We've been there before, but the pizza there is well worth comming back for. When we arrived we were quickly seated and given (without request) water. This is a very simple touch I enjoy and should be adopted by every restaurant everywhere! Everyone likes water with meals, don't they!?! Anyway, we both went for the pizza. I went for the Molicone. Very tasty, and to anyone who hasn't had egg on a pizza, you haven't had pizza yet :) Lunch menu pizza is about €11, and about €16 on the dinner menu. All in all I see this place as more of a lunchtime cafe as apposed to a restaurant and though the pizza is nice I don't feel it, or the surroundings merrit the higher dinner menu prices. That said it's well worth a visit. Enjoy

I absolutely love this restaurant! We always go here as its so handy and the food is always great...we always see the same people here so it has a lovely local feel. Haven't tried the pastas but the pizzas are always fantastic... Great wine selection also. The only bad thing I would say is the service is almost too quick...in and out very quickly, obviously great for families but not so good for a romantic lingering meal over lots of wine. Having said that, I still go here nearly every week, would recommend it to anyone!

Great food, shame about the waiter who is obsessed with having the front door shut at all times regardless of whether a customer is actually trying to go in or not, thankfully none of us have to put up with rudeness in a recession!!

On a wednesday evening it was quiet but the atmosphere was still lovely. A really friendly waitress, quaint local place, that made us feel welcome straight away. The service was suprt, the food very tasty. I am not usually a fan of pizza's but the Dolce Vita Trattoria special is really tasty. My husbands pasta was perfectly spicy with a decent helping of prawns. Wine menu is good value with plenty of variety. This local restaurant is a real gem & should definitely be tried for a casual night out!

Ate here on a Friday night - really nice buzz to the place, it's small but you don't feel like you're right on top of the next table. The service was absolutely fantastic, really friendly, quick and unintrusive. We arrived without a booking and were more than happy to go for a quick drink in the opposite pub until a table was free. The food is really delicious and well priced - 2 mains, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine (only €15!) for just under €60. We're sure you'd pay the same for plain pub grub!

I have lunch here at least once a week. Food is fantastic, service is fantastic and staff are fantastic. Any of the pasta dishes are good and I was in Naples recently and their pizzas would have a tough time competing with La Dolce Vita. Staff are warm and friendly, service is excellent. a Its a Small place so large groups at lunch can find it hard to get a table but its definitely worth a wait.

I eat in this restaurant at least once a week for lunch as its close to work and as a fussy enough eater, I always order the lasange (which is sold out some lunchtimes as its sooo good, penne arribiata or the pepperoni pizza. Went today and was plesently surprised to see a special of homemade burgers with creamy mushroom sauce, 2 small homemade burgers that came with potatoe slices, delicious, will defo have these again when they're back on the specials board.

Delicious, i love this restaurant. The food has always been great, and the service has always been fantastic also. I even went to there with my boyfriend on Valentines day ( a day notorious for being ripped off in restaurants and bad service) But it was fantastic. The atmosphere was amazing they have baloons all over the place and complimentary champagne. I love it here and have gone back a many times since. Excellent value for money also

I have to say that I'm puzzled by the negative comment posted earlier. Perhaps that particular person just had a bad day or is inexperienced with italian cuisine. Anyway, my girlfriend and I have been eating at La Dolce Vita for the last 3-4 years now and we keep coming back. The atmosphere is great, the staff is really friendly and then of course there is the food. We've tried pretty much everything on the menu by now and I can honestly say that it is good honest and darn tasty italian food. The salmon and cream cheese roulade, the whiting or funghi fritto are excellent starters. The pastas are awesome too - from the chicken pesto through the pollo ala king and even the lasagne is great. It's difficult to get a lasagne right - the consistency of the bechamel sauce and the delicate relationship between the sauce, pasta and meat, but they manage to pull it off just right. And funnily enough - the homemade banoffi pie is our favorite dessert - it just rocks! Only thing is: book in advance as it is a small and cosy place with not many seats. Dolce Vita is a gem in Sandyford. You won't regret it.

I eat lunch here at least once a week. Staff are really friendly and accomodating. Food is great and brilliant value for money. My favourite dish which is their Lasagne, made with buffalo mozzarella and an amazing tomato sauce. My lunch companion, when feeling good and healthy, tends to go for the bacon caesar salad, which she thoroughly enoughs and always cleans the plate. For €12.95 for a lasagne, served with garlic bread and crinkly fries, how can you go wrong!!!!

Time & money throwaway! We are only walking distance away so we decided to visit the restaurant again since it's been a while we had a dinner there (we last visited the place in the summer '07). The first impression was positive, as my eye caught interesting choice of wine that was on display in wall-mounted wine bottle carriers of some contemporary design. But that soon changed, as soon as our food arrived. Without going into details, let's just say that any resemblence to the Italian food is a pure coincidence. Garlic bread was OK, but just that. Primavera Linguini (come with mushrooms and tomato) were a literal attempt to follow the recipe ingredients, except for a few minor details: tomato sauce was a plain tomato passata, seasonless and completely bland in taste, there was 3/4 of one baby mushroom in it, but to make up for the lack of it plenty of green pepper, which made the dish taste like some kind of stew. Banoffi was as hard as a stone (it took an awful lot of strength and clings against my plate to cut the pastry with my dessert spoon, at least I made my soon-to-become-a-teeneger daughter laugh). The bill for four came up to just under 100 EUR. And since my husband told me it's just not worthwhile complaining that they overcharged us for garlic bread, we decided not to tip them of course. And not to return.

I have visited this resturant a lot with my family few years and find it very consistant good quality food at very good prices. As opposed to a previous reviewer I find the size of the resturant makes it a lively chatty place with a very good atmosphere. Service is always efficent and with a smile. They have a very good children's menu and their daily specials are always good.

I saw some recommendations on the menupages, so my friend and I decided to try this Italian restaurant. The restaurant is so small, virtually there is very little space between tables. We can hold hands with next tables. I figured out why people like to sit outside the restaurant in the pavement but I don’t understand why people like sitting in a tiny restaurant like confined in a cage. We just came back from a holiday in Italy and my friend is an Italian, she commented, “Although the restaurant uses an Italian name and the dishes only look similar!” The dishes did not taste the same as what we tasted in a restaurant in Rome. Same name on the menu but different taste!

Myself and my husband live a short walk away from this little gem and we must have eaten here well over 20 times! The early bird menu is fantastic value. 2 courses plus coffee for 16.95, where else in Dublin would you get such good value? The food is excellent, the pizzas are light and crisp (I reccomend the one with parma ham and rocket) and the smoked salmon pasta is to die for. If you can fit a dessert in, the tiramisu is out of this world and they make the frothiest cappuchinos I've ever had. Yes the restaurant is small so if you are going at the weekend or for the early bird I would recommend you book ahead but if you do turn up and there are no tables you can pop into the pub across the road for a drink and the staff will come and call you when a table is available! If you're not finished your drink simply bring it with you! Please try this restaurant you won't be disappointed I promise.

Very, very nice restaurant & service. Myself & my sister ate here one night during the week. We walked up to the restaurant & sat outside as we had the dog. We were immediately brought out menus by the waiter (I think the manager or owner) & he recommended different dishes to us. He then said he would put on the outside heater for us. We ordered salads for starters (Caesar & Greek) - both gorgeous. The waiter then arrived out with the softest blankets for each of us to put under us as the chairs are steel. We were both amused but thankful for them. I had the salmon pasta (gluten free first time I’ve seen that in a restaurant) and my sister had the salmon main course. Both were outstanding and big portions. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. The atmosphere even outside was lovely, it is priced reasonably & the service as you can tell from this was wonderful. I will definitely be going back.

We are locals to this Italian and have never had a bad experience there. Food is top notch, great value and service is very friendly. Would advise booking if you plan to go there any evening from Thursday towards the weekend as it's very popular. The whiting starter is really excellent and the lasagne is wonderful.

There is a problem here, my wife loved her meal (I tasted it and yes it was nice) I certainly did not love my meal. My wife went for a safe option of pizza which was a thin based style and well presented, tasty, colourful, and plenty of it for one person. I however had a pasta dish with smoked chicken which was overly spiced, it burnt my mouth on chilli which was only a side ingredient as opposed to a primary on the menu, I asked the waitress to either taste it herself or ask the chef to taste it, sadly she did not quite understand what I meant so I left my meal barely touched whilst I shared a little of my wife’s. I personally will not be going on a return jaunt to this one. Oh did I mention that it is busy but the staff seem to treat you as more of an irritation!

What a great great place! Food is wonderful and great selection on menu. The staff are so nice and very attentive. Highly recommend the whiting starter and I love the carbonara, it comes with lovely Parma ham. It’s quite small but you're not crammed in, it’s very cosy and has a great atmosphere. Looking forward to the summer when the have seating outside. If you live locally, it’s a treasure.

I have eaten here twice and have now booked it again for Valentines night. The food is really beautiful and the staff is very attentive. Excellent value for money, the one small thing that I would mention is that it is quite small and if you do want to eat here book in advance and request a wall table rather than in the middle of the restaurant. Enjoy when you go!!!!

This place is great value but doesn’t compromise size servings. Lunch of pasta, pizza or panini comes to about 10€ but they aren’t that much more expensive in the evenings. The place is a little small which means it can get quite busy for lunch and I often feel a bit rushed out but the service is so good and the food so tasty that you cant complain. I definitely would recommend the penne salmone, which comes with a nice big slice of garlic bread, and the desserts are to die for.

Tried this restaurant on the below recommendations, had a lovely evening, great value for money especially with the early bird menu, cosy atmosphere, attentive and friendly service and the most divine chocolate fudge cake. However not too keen on the chefs watching from the kitchen.

Possibly the nicest lasagne I have ever tasted, accompanied by delicious crispy potatoes and salad. Staff were friendly and non-intrusive. Lovely evening, great value, delighted to have such a gem locally.

Really nice restaurant, very friendly staff and the food is great, service is quick and the staff leave you alone and never try to rush you out the door in the evening. Atmosphere is lively and for such a small place you don't feel overcrowded.
