Ate here for the third time recently. The first two times the service and food were practically flawless and had become my favourite restaurant. However my last visit wasn't as successful unfortunately. Mainly because of the change of menu of which my favourites have been removed! No goats cheese starter so instead I opted for the mushroom ravioli which was overpowered by the rocket sauce. The starter special of a black pudding tarte tatin was poor as was the main special - sea trout with crab and chive risotto (very little crab, too much chives and pretty bland overall). Although the trout itself was delicious as were the prawns. The duck with crushed sweet potato has also been replaced which is unfortunate as its rare to see sweet potato on a menu, and also the fish with gnocchi. Steaks were described as cooked well but the meat itself was a bit tasteless. Our creme brulee was slightly overdone on this occasion although had been delicious previously. However the trio of ice-cream was superb and obviously homemade. Service was still impeccable and staff were very helpful. Will return again however and try some of their newer menu options.

Must say this is a gem of a restaurant, real food at real prices. Every time I've been I've had pork belly and it just doesn't get old. Service is friendly and its most certainly a busy spot. Chef seems to take great care in his plates. A special confit duck salad was on last time I was there, delicious. I also recommend the creme brulee. Going again on Friday and I cant wait

Tribes is a nice spot near the Dart and in the busy village of Glasthule. Went there for the second time in two years since I didn't want to head into town for all the Aviva Stadium traffic. They still always make you feel welcome and place was a buzz on Thursday, and I managed to make the early bird. I had prawns to start and pork belly and a glass of crispy white. I had to try the homemade brown bread ice-cream which was delicious. The bill was ok, still had lots of change for later on. It's great to have a restaurant so near, that you don't need to head into the city for. Wonder where and why the Tribes name. Will ask them next time soon.

This was my second visit to Tribes- I came back for second helpings after my first visit a couple of months ago- I wasn't disappointed! Myself and my partner got a table when we phoned ahead and arrived to a bustling restaurant (which was nice to see midweek). We both had the prawns to start which were nice and juicy and perfectly cooked. I then went for the pork belly which I had had before- it was succulent and tender and actually tasted like the pork I'd had as I was growing up- tenderly cooked comfort food! We both went for the brown bread ice-cream which rounded off our meal well, along with a couple of glasses of a nice Cote de Rhone. I like the warm welcoming atmosphere of this place- and with good food, served well and at a reasonable price, I will certainly be going back for a third visit.

My boyfriend and I came here on a Saturday without a reservation and got a table no problem, but by 7pm the restaurant was full. We were attracted by the all day every day menu of 3 courses for €26. We both had delicious prawns for starter, a very generous portion and the salad that the prawns sat on was very tasty too. For mains I had the vegetarian option of Butternut squash risotto which was very tasty but came with a rocket salad which I felt was a slightly odd combination. He had sea bass for the first time and was very happy, it was simple but cooked perfectly although we thought the supplement for the sea bass was a bit much (€4 i think). Desserts were Creme Brulee and a chocolate mousse pot which didn't live up to the other two courses unfortunately,I think the Brulee had been prepared earlier as the caramelized top wasn't even warm and the mousse was a little dry around the edges. Staff were very nice and friendly and at no point did we feel rushed to vacate the table even though it was a busy Saturday evening. the complementary bread while we looked at the menu was delicious! I'd def come back here for a nice casual meal but maybe not for something special.

Good but not spectacular Brought friends to Tribes. Good thing there was nothing wrong with the food. Sad thing is that nobody felt compelled to go back again. General feeling was that the menu was overpriced for what we experienced and with such a limited menu it needed to be better.

Hadn't been to Tribes in a while and dropped in midweek recently after work. It was fairly quiet but food was decent without being spectacular and service was friendly. Their Early Bird is not especially good value at €26 odd quid for three courses.

I went to Tribes last Saturday night for my birthday dinner and it was a succes from start to finish. We were a party of 7 and between us pretty much sonsumed most of the menu!! Starters of duck liver parfait, cream of onion soup, black pudding with apple and red onion, tea smoked breast of duck salad and goujons of lemon sole were all tried, tested and thoroughly enjoyed. Not a morsel left on any of the plates. For mains three of the party went for the fillet steak, each were cooked to perfection and served with the right amount of chunky chips. The sea bream looked light and summery and I'm advised tasted fantastic. The hake was beautifully cooked and last but by no means least my lamb. What can I say but melt in the mouth and full of flavour. My only complaint was I wished I had been hungrier as I couldn't finish it all!! We had brought our own dessert - one of my mums infamous coffee sponges YUM!! - but the restaurant very nicely presented it on a decorated plate and following the obligitory and suitably mortifying round of Happy Birthday we all tucked in. The staff were polite, professional and very helpful. The only, only gripe I would have was the restaurant was like a sauna and on a number of occasions I had to hold the front door open to get some air in, a door stop was desperately needed!! All in all with a dozen various drinks the bill came to 245euro including service. Money well spent, I will definately be going back to Tribes!!

There were 5 of us seated at a table for 4, I hate that - really cramped. We had asked for the window seat but did not get it, other tables of 5 were seated at table for 6...so I was annoyed since we have made reservation over 3 weeks prior. That said, the food was really good, the wine good at the price, endless supply of water which is always good. But, then the bill was handed over while we still finishing up drinks, saying that while we should enjoy our drink, they needed the table....there was no-one waiting, and a lots of other free tables. But, again, we will go back since the food is fab and service prompt.

Having been to Tribes a couple of times as a couple and enjoyed it, we visited on this day with a larger group. The food was good as always. My only issue was that the special on that day of Fish Pie was off the menu. It must have been very popular! Overall it was a lovely meal, the atmosphere is pleasant and the service quite good. The Early Bird menu is well priced and the wine list has some great options (particularly the Mitchell's wines) at reasonable prices.

This was my fifth or sixth time to visit this Restaurant. I always loved the atmosphere, food & especially the friendly service. This time it was different. The friendly service had gone and the food was not as good as before. My main course arrived on a bed or soggy vegetables. I was disappointed as this used to be one of my favourite restaurants.

A great dining experience in these recessionary times. No booking but got a table no problem the room was warm and cosy and well presented and got very busy as the night went on. Started with Smoked Haddock, pea purée & poached egg was superb and my better half's Crayfish Cocktail was equally good.Mains were Pan-fried Rump Steak, fat chips with tarragon & shallot butter a lovely piece of meat cooked as ordered and the tarragon butter was diferent and added to the flavour of the steak and the fat chips were hand cut not frozen. Lamb off the bone with baby carrots was delicious. We had desserts of Chocolate cheese cake and icecream praline both very good if the portions were a bit large and good coffee to follow. The bill was very good value for money and we will return.

My wife and I have eaten here a number of times recently, both on our own and with friends. There is always a buzz of conversation that makes for a welcoming first impression. The food is excellent and the specials on the blackboard worth looking at. The portions are not huge but this suits us as we are not in the first flush of youth and heaped plates are a turn-off. This is a friendly inexpensive restaurant that is consistantly good.

Yummy!!! In this climate where restuarants are empty and the quality of food is less than perfect it is fabulous to go to a restaurant with a great atmosphere, excellent service and the most amazing food and wine. I had the most delicious chicken ever, served with lots of vegetables and jus-not your usual veg but butternut squash served two ways and the green veg - spinach and french beans served with almonds. My companion was as happy with her fish as I was with my meal. Absolutely worth a visit.

I brought my mum here a couple of weeks ago because she goes regularly with her friends and enjoys it. For me, food is ok if a bit "safe". Seems to be a favourite of the older generation but not somewhere I'd go to with my friends.

Ate here last week with my boyfriend for my birthday and had a really lovely meal. The place was buzzing even on a Tuesday night and the staff were so friendly and efficient. The food was delicious. I had the goats cheese starter and it was so tasty and well presented and opted for the fish special as my main which was cod with mussels in a leek sauce and I must saw it must have been the nicest fish dish I have in a restaurant in a long time. My boyfriend also thoroughly enjoyed his steak dinner so I will definitely be making a return visit. They do the earlybird until quite late in the evening which I think is very good value. Well worth a visit.

Wow what a find! Can't comment on the atmosphere are we were really early, early birds @ 5.45. Must be one of the best value for money early bird menu around. Started with the goats cheese perfect, followed with a confit of duck leg, the duck was just right, coming straight off the bone. My friend had the pork belly which was melt in the mouth (I had to try some) Wine prices were a bit on the expensive side compared to the food prices but over all it was a joy to eat in Tribes. We will be back with the rest of our friends in the near future.

Absolutely incredible food! Best meal I've had in a long time. Went here for dinner with my boyfriend; I had the seabream which was amazing and beautifully presented and the fillet of beef was devoured by my other half. The chocolate and hazelnut bread and butter pudding was truly to die for as was the lemon meringue pie which was served with the most delicious white chocolate ice cream. The ambiance was perfect and the service was outstanding. Bit on the pricey side considering we're in a recession but good for a treat and the early bird would be well worth trying.

Had heard good things about here but was bit disappointed with the food. Service excellent and friendly staff. However, had sea trout for main course and was covered in oil and not alot of flavour. Would probably go back again with great deal that was the early bird.

This was my first time at Tribes. I dined with 2 of my business colleagues. All of us were impressed with all of the food. I had a thinly sliced roast beef dish for the starter with Rocket, fresh parmesan etc and it was outstanding! We all had the Pork Belly for the main course and I can honestly say it was mouth-wateringly good. I've never had better. For dessert the colleagues had the rhubarb crumble and I had the creme brulee. Both were outstanding. Presentation of all courses was excellent. The staff were also very attentive. Highly recommended - especially for a special meal out.

It was the first Sunday in the New Year and probably not the best day to decide to become a food critic :o) . Sunday is normally a day for carvery meals which after numerous attempts to fill a proper establishment, now fill me with dread. Deciding that I had enough of the Christmas leftovers and feeling the urge to sample something nice, I cranked up the laptop and headed to the menupages site to see what was on offer. A couple of clicks later, it was decided that the Tribes restaurant looked like a viable option. A quick phone call and the table was booked for Sunday lunch. It was a cold day as I stepped out of the car and venture to the door. Appearances can be deceiving and the frontage probably doesnt do the eatery any justice. Inside is tastefully decorated and spacious, the temperature just nice enough to make you feel toastie! The Sunday Set menu offers a good selection that should appeal to the tastebuds and wallets of most people. €25 for a 3 course meal is very good value in my world. Grant it, the restaurant was probably a little quiet on a dreary Sunday afternoon but the service was attentive rather than being overbearing. A Pea risotto & a mushroom tagliatelle were the chosen starters and both proved to be winners. For me, my choice of main (braised lamb shank "off the bone") was probably one of the best lamb dishes that I have tasted. The meat and accompanying veg were cooked to perfection. My girlfriend decided on the baked cod, which she felt was nice but I think she secretly wished that she had chosen the lamb! A beautiful meal was topped off by a selection of homemade icecream & a steamed chocolate pudding which rounded off an enjoyable meal. Overall it was good quality food, decent portion size, very good sevice & very reasonable. Would highly recommend a visit if you are in the area!

I came here when it first opened and wasn't all that impressed. The owner was a bit hassled and sharp...the table offered not good. So, I rested for a while and spent my hard earned money in other places. Ok...time to forget and to try again. I like it now....very good place and I have been here 3 times in the past 2 months with offspring and GF. Last visit my daughter had the prawn tian and as usual it was excellent. I had one of my favourites...scallops and cooked just fine. We took to the air for the mains with duck and chicken....both moist, well cooked and well presented. I have had the lamb here too and it is also good. Yes, I felt I had good value and now like this restaurant and willkeep it as one of my regulars.O...the owner is now all smiles and dead on. Business must be good!!

We have regularly visited Tribes since we discovered it on a friend's recommendation a couple of years ago.We have been as a couple and different foursomes. We have always been impressed by the high standard of the cooking (from the French chef) and the excellent service. Decor is good and the only reservation is that the loos are downstairs, not the best is you are in any way unsteady on your feet. There is on street parking outside in Glasthule main street. The restaurant is not large; it has around 60 covers. They operate an early bird every night to 7.30/8pm (depending on the day) for 23.95 euro for two courses and tea/coffee. Excellent value for excellent food. We would recommend the tian of crayfish or the confit of duck as outstanding among the very good starts, and the belly of pork (best I have had in Dublin), the chicken, the rump of lamb of any of the fish dishes among the mains. Steak is available at a slight premium. Very good wine list with good geographical range of wines at reasonable prices. I actually thought of not writing this review, in case it is fully booked next time we want to go! Very highly recommended.

An enjoyable, (almost) fine dining experience. but not quite for the every day - unless you can afford it. Great wine selection and very good food. Staff are attentive but the atmosphere was slightly less than virbrant. Maybe it's different on the weekends though!

Great local find - fab atmosphere, service and food. The early bird menu is great value at 23.95 euro for a two course plus coffee. The Wood Pigeon and Cray Fish starter are just in credible and so too are the main course fish dishes and pork belly which most of my family always choose. I've only been twice but the staff remember you (consistency there which is good!) and greet you well. My family and I would choose this restaurant as the best in South Dublin. Go try it....

I was in Tribes last week with a large group of family. Everyone was very happy with their food and it was clean plates all round. The minute we walked in we were greeted kindly and given bread and jugs of water. I was extremely happy with my steak which came with fantastic thick chips. The atmosphere in the restaurant was busy and the service was excellent. A member of my group had ordered no started on the early bird menu and the manager kindly offered them a dessert instead (which is not on the early bird menu as it only includes starter and main) I had the creme brulee for dessert and it was fantastic. Overall I was very pleased with the meal and I shall be planning a trip back to Tribes shortly!

I ate with two friends in Tribes midweek a fortnight ago. Free parking outside the door, lovely breads replenished immediately, food delicious. Nice touch - bowl of spuds and of veg appeared on table along with main courses. Water jug was filled about four times for us - never had to ask. Service was excellent and friendly without being intrusive. We loved it and will definitely be back!

Tribes has an excellent value lunch and early bird menu. I have eaten here a number of times and have always enjoyed my meal. I particularly like the crayfish starter and the steak for main. Because the food is great and the lunch and early bird are real value for money, I'm not sure if I would go for dinner and pay for the a la carte. Nice ambiance.

Have been here half a dozen times and can't really see what the fuss is all about. Last night I'd the scallops & pork belly to start that was ok but for €12 I thought the scallops would be bigger. I'd the fillet steak that was very good but the sea bass looked meagre and the side dishes were just ok. One thing that annoys me (& it's not the only place that does it) is that you can't hear yourself if you're beside a large group in a small narrow restaurant. A little pricey too.

Have been here quite a few times now for Sunday Lunch and it really is consistently good. I particularly like the Poussin which is served on a wooden board, with your own personal pan of jus and accompaniments, the apricot stuffing is delish! Don't normally have dessert but decided to try the Chocolate Tart and my partner had the Creme Brulee. Both looked lovely but to be honest were a bit lacking in flavour. The rest of the meal was nice though and service is efficient.

Ate here recently with 2 friends, we all really enjoyed food. Staff very friendly and place very pleasant. Slow roast belly of pork is delicious, maybe more of a winter dish though, also confit of duck salad - yum. We will definitely be back.

Great food at a reasonable enough price for an early bird. Decor is very cool and while the atmosphere was a little sedate, this was probably as it was midweek and rather early. Service is very friendly and efficient, my only criticism would be the rather unpleasant odour from the ladies at the back. Crab starter was delicious and my steak was real melt in the mouth. Excellent wine list too.

Went here for works Christmas dinner last year and absolutely loved it the slow roasted pork. Melted in your mouth and I’m still craving the crème brulee a year later. We had a table booked for ten people a good few weeks in advance and discovered when we got there they weren’t expecting us even though it was reconfirmed the day before. We were sent to the pub across the way while arrangements were made, not the best start but it picked up with the food.

Superb value for Sunday Lunch at only 25euro for three courses. The food is excellent and very well presented although the portions for the main courses could be a little more substantial, this is however balanced by relatively generous starters. We had a very large group, 18 in all including 2 children and the service was very good, the Maitresse D' looking after us personally through out the meal. Only major complaint would be the price we were charged for chips and a strip of chicken for the children, 10 euro seemed a little much considering. I seem to also remember 10% service charge being mentioned on the menu. This is fine for a group of our size but for a small group or a couple dining I believe service charge should be left to the discretion of those who have been served or at least incorporated into the price on the menu. Would definitely recommend for Sunday Lunch but the a la carte might not suit all pockets.

I love this place, its a real gem and I totally recommend it, especially for a romantic dinner. I think the steak I had was the best I have ever eaten and the staff are so lovely and looked after us very well. I can't wait to go back here again.

Tribes is now a regular spot for me. The food, service and atmosphere are great. Saying this I still find the menu a little pricey. However the early bird and Sunday lunch menu are more then affordable and offer a great selection of fine foods.

I have eaten in Tribes on two occassions and will certainly go back. The starters and mains were absolutely delicious on both visits. I didn't enjoy my creme brulee but I'm hard to please on that score! The regular staff are extremely friendly and that makes a difference to the overall feel of the restaurant. It's a bit on the expensive side. Certainly a 'once in a while' restaurant rather than a local eaterie, which is slightly at odds with its location I think. All in all a very positive experience and we'll be back!

I have been visiting this restaurant since it opened and it has never failed to impress me. When eating out, my top two requirements are good food and good service. Secondary to those is general ambience. Luckily Tribes seems to have covered all three. It's great to see familiar faces every time you return. I love the view of the busy kitchen and the high tables are a nice relaxed way to dine. One to visit!

I have been going to this restaurant since it first opened. The first thing to cover is the fact that its decor is pretty tacky. The Egyptian theme has gone over the top in what would otherwise be a lovely understated room, although they possibly did not have much to work with, given that the space was previously a chiropodist. The staff are exceptionally friendly, well informed and efficient. The chef even went so far as to give me a recipe for a foie gras parfait with apricot biscotti, which they were taking off the menu, but was much loved by my family. Although it is relatively expensive, this is borne out by the quality of the food. The ingredients are always top quality, taking good account of the seasons. The only complaint is that the menu has become less adventurous of late, although this could be to do with the market, as in a residential area it has clearly had to deal with the fact that to succeed, as few restaurants do around here for any large length of time, it must cater mainly for families. Overall, this is one of the best restaurants in the area, and definitely worth a visit.

Tribes has been a regular haunt of mine over the past 12 months or more and I have rarely been disappointed by the quality of the food. There are regular changes to the menu which ensures I come back to check out the latest additions! Although the A La Carte menu is expensive the early bird and lunch menus are excellent value. My only gripe would be that when the restaurant is full it can be rather noisy and so makes good conversation somewhat of a challenge!

Ok, it's a bit more expensive than a lot of its competitors, but I've eaten here 3 times and each time has been a delight. Abandon all hopes of sticking to your diet plan, because the temptation here is too great. Don't leave without having one of their desserts, you can always walk along the seafront afterwards and burn off the calories.

I decided to give this place another go as it is about 6 yards from my house and laziness prohibits me from wandering further. The reason that I had not ventured back for nearly a year was due to the surly, uncommunicative and generally aloof behaviour of the (I can only presume) owner. At one point, I felt as if I should have supplied a credit reference to alleviate any fears that he may of had that I could not pay the bill... A fear that are not unfounded given the fairly adventurous prices in Tribes. Yes the food is excellent and this time the service was exemplary and there was no sign of Grumpy Bear but I always feel like I'm being robbed when a pasta dish is nearly 20 euro. I'm Scottish; so such bleating might possibly be understood and/or excused. That said, my tian of crayfish was delightful. It was light, well presented and fresh. Even though I moan about expensive tagliatelle, the braised rabbit with lardons was great and a good sized portion to boot. Laziness is a wonderful attribute, which means that I will be back at Tribes this weekend. I would be grateful, however, if the girl who sat at the table next to me and said "I mean, oh my god" 541 times to her friend, lets me know what time she will be dining so I can warm up in the Eagle while she grazes.

We decided to bring my Father out for the Sunday lunch a couple of weekends ago; a couple of friends joined us too and we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. The only reservation I would have is the chicken terrine starter had some gristle in it. I don't know why I didn't return it to be honest. However, despite that, the other starters were lovely and the mains and desserts were fantastic too. Service was excellent and it wasn't too pricey - recommend it very highly except for the chicken and baby leek terrine starter.

Foru of went for dinner in this restaurant. Service was great and our waitress was very helpful. However, we went for the food. We all had a mixtures of Starters and Main courses so we all got try a bit everything. The Food was fantastic, but VERY VERY Expensive. 3 Course meal, with a bottle of Cheap Wine, 25€ cost 250 Euro!! The only bad part of the meal was the cheese board that we ordered. It was terrible. The Crackers / Biscuits that we received were disgusting and the cheese was plan and dry. We informed the waiter of this when the bill arrived and he could not care less. Would I Go Back??? It certainly would not be one of my first choices and I could certainly find restaurants that are better value for money

Went for a Sunday lunch, didn't know any thing about Tribes but the reviews in the window looked good, had to wait a little while for food I got the roast chicken with potato and a parsnip puree-IT WAS AMAZING! Tribes is a tad expensive but worth it.

Four of us ate in Tribes last Friday week and had a fab meal. I would strongly recommend the 8 hour slow cooked belly of pork.
