I really love the Old Orchard as a pub. It's always so cosy and atmospheric. The food here is hearty and good value, and as a vegan they have catered for me well in the past. I like their bruschetta as a starter, and they have made me up some lovely salads on request. For vegans there is pasta with mediterranean veg available without the cheese and likewise with the roasted stuffed bell peppers. Veggie curries and stir fries are good value at €15 and a decent sized portion. I have never had dessert here so am not sure what they have. It's a fun place to go for food and a few drinks on the weekend with friends.

how hard is it to get a drink in this place..? here last sat evening, not many people in the pub, but waited and waited at bar for ages to order and get a drink. food when it arrived was ok, but staff seemed busy chatting to each other than serving us - got a bit tedious after a while. think this place needs a revamp also a bit tatty with special offers and posters everywhere you look - ott! ... bit old fashioned

living in Rathfarnham all my life i have eaten in all the pubs /restaurants on many ocassions and have to admit i had written the orchard off as a food venue about 3 years ago. However on Friday last we had a few after work drinks and decided to give the food another go.The friendly waitress informed us that they had totally re-vamped their menu over the last few months and encouraged us to try the chicken wings to start ,they were perfectly done with just the right amt of hot sauce.great start!.For main 3 of us ordered the rib eye steak(medium) which melted in the mouth, served with homemade chunky chips. Our friend wasnt too hungry so he ordered the mini fish and chips from the very clever mini bites menu(only 5.50).The barman approached us to ask about the food and engaged us in conversation which was a nice touch. The crowd is a mid 20s and up a really good mix and the pub was filling up by the time we were leaving(8.45). a girl came over to chat and she informed us thaey had a band starting that evening ,she seemed to be the in charge and offered us a very reasonably priced cocktail for only 5 euro and also informed us that their new winter menu will be starting in a few weeks. Ended up staying for the band and dont remember the rest!!! its great to know i can get top food/service and entertainment just 5 mins from my front door. Defin be back.

Ate here recently for the first time in two years and I was disappointed with the food. I used to love the food here - the menu used to be more varied too and they had a delicious lasagne which has been taken off the menu for some reason. The chicken was poor quality and the presentation was sloppy. The food tasted over-cooked and bland. I have always heard good reviews about the food here so maybe it was a bad day. Might try it again in a while to see if there is an improvement.

Was here last Saturday night, I've eaten here a couple of times, and enjoyed both times. Food is very very good, and well priced. Excellent beer garden, probably one of the best I've seen in a pub in Dublin. Service is extremely friendly, one of the barmen was straight over to see what he could do to help. The food service is also extremely friendly, if a tad on the slow side (to start). But the girls that were serving us were terribly friendly and happy! I recommend the pate for starters, its just gorgeous and served with beautiful fresh bread. I had the Burger with crispy onions (of which they will give you extra if you ask!). Excellent food, and the atmosphere is always quite lively. A little quieter in the Beer Garden (music wise) if that would suit! Good prices to and some excellent offers on at the moment. Will be back.

We booked a table to celebrate our grandchilds christening. The service was very good and the set menu we agreed on was very good value for money. They let us bring in our own cake, which they cut up for us for dessert, which a lot of places would not do. I would really recommend it!

I visited here for a catch up with the girls one Sunday evening. We had a good evening although the place was slightly lacking in atmosphere. The last of our group arrived at 8.30 & we were initially told the restaurant was closed but then were told that if we ordered quck enough the kitchen would cater for us. The food was fine, probably what you'd expect from pub grub. Overall a good night, staff were friendly although service was a little slow. Next time I might suggest somewhere with a bit more of a buzz about the place!

Went here for food on St Patrick's Day as we had decided to visit the pub in the early evening for food a few drinks. Myself and a couple of others ordered the steak sandwich - when it arrived it was tiny for the price we were paying just on a piece of bun it was totally not worth the money paid for it. Overall the food here seems just not up to scratch and seems to be overpriced for the quality you are receiving. The staff were friendly even though it was obviously a busy day for them but it did take us some considerable time to put an order in. I dont think I will be eating here again any time soon.

This is a lovely pub but it was a bit quiet on this evening. The service was a bit slow especially since it wasn't really busy but the food was nice and the drinks were good too. I has the lasange and chips which was very tasty and just the right sized portion. My boyfriend had the meatballs and pasta which he thought was nice. I would def go back again. I'd love to go at the weekend when its busier and the athmophere would be a bit better perhaps

Went for sunday lunch with the girls, food was nice and reasonably well priced although, some items seemed quite expensive for what they were. Service was promt and efficient, if not a little surly at times from younger staff members. Overall was nice meal out.

I usually come here on a weekend for drinks but have only had the food once and I was quite impressed. They had a barbeque on in the outside terrace which looked brilliant. I decided to buy from the bar menu however as I was not really that hungry. I ordered the chicken thai curry. I wasnt expecting anything great as pub food rarely is. The curry was delicious however. It came with rice and a poppadom freshly made. I will definately go back.

Went here for after work beers & food. I ordered off the menu a chicken in filo pastry dish, dont remember it saying it is served on a bed of mash and i ordered chips but I wasnt charged for them. The chicken was a bit too dry and the filo pastry was just a mountain of mess on my plate as it fell apart while trying to eat it. It was overall a pretty bland dish. So i was very jealous of another of the group who decided to order the BBQ deal for €10...a pint of beer + baked potatoe, ribs, burger...i cant remember what else there was on it but a great deal, think its due to finish soon though as the summer comes to an end. Service was grand, prompt but not intrusive. All in all if i was going for beers & had to eat id prob get something else off the menu to give it a go again but wouldnt be overly hopeful based on this experience.

I had a main course in this pub restaurant. It was the 12 ounce steak and cooked to perfection. The price was average concidering the size. Service was quick and friendly but I wasnt too impressed with the athmosphere.

Had lunch as we were in the area. Himself had the steak sandwich which he really enjoyed and I had a salad of sweet potato, goats salad and beetroot. It was big, i couldn't finish the whole thing. Only complaint was that the some sweet potato was a bit over done. The bill was around €30 incl. soft drinks, a bit pricy for lunch. Service was good and if we there again in need of a quick lunch and in the area we would call again.

I have written glowingly about this place before but what a turn-around. The last time I was there we were kept waiting for far too long for each course and when it came, the food was really not worth waiting for. You can understand when this is due to busy staff etc. but on this day it really was not busy. There was just no excuse.

I just wanted to post to tell everyone about an outrageous price hike at the Orchard in Rathfarnham. 4 of us (2 couples) used to go to the Orchard quite regularly, and we used to order the Large Platter for €35. The usual food - cocktail sausages, goujons, wings & wedges. Nice, not spectacular, grand for picking on while having a few beers. My friend heard that they had upped the price so I asked a waitress about the platter options. Now the Large Platter costs €55!! I asked the waitress - is this the same large platter that used to be €35 and she said yes, she didn't understand it either. I will not go back - how could they up the price by that much. We will spend our €400 a week somewhere else.

I came here for dinner with 2 others. 2 of us got starters, I got soup wihich I was told was veg but when it came it was definatly mushroom. My friend got Chicken Skewers which he said was nice but no way worth €9. For mains I ordered lasagne which was nice, my 2 frieds ordered burgers which were burnt and the buns were rock hard. and all this for €85. I thought it was very expensive and also the staff were very slow.

Went here for some food with a friend. Service was not great as we ended up with 3 different waitresses & the first didnt find it appropriate to ask if we needed anything else, the dishes were just handed to us & she left. Twice we have to go in search of her. The food was lovely. I had the salmon for starters. The sea bass I ordered for mains came & was small but not realising that there was a side of veg we went & ordered chips off another waitress (as we couldnt find the org waitress) & the she appeared with the veg. When the chips arrived they were greasy & crispy not very nice at all. The wine was lovely. The duck salad was nice my friend had. We got desserts the cheesecake was okay & the banoffi was lovely.

I often eat in this restaurant. Tonight I had beef and guinness stew which was excellent and served as a very generous portion with lovely mashed potato. My companoion had fish in batter with real (yes) potato chips, mushy peas and tartare sauce which was also excellent. Service was friendly and prompt and the cost was reasonable. My only regret here is that the seafood pie is no longer on the menu. This was mixed seafood in a creamy sauce flavoured with tarragon and topped with cheese. Delicious.

eat here often out of convience for work lunches.the staff are friendly and even though under pressure, have time for you.food had gone down hill in recent months but has improved again. The only grip is they took the orential noddles off the lunch menu, feel the lunch menu lacks a bit of variety.Food is good value for money and service is excellent

I love this place the best atmosphere and cosy surroundings always feel at home in this Pub. Food always changing so different variety for everyones taste. Even the soup is great for a light snack. Everyone is catered for here, have covered and heated area for smokers and big screens for all the great football and rugby action every week and of course a big circled bar so they have a quick service along with bar server's going around tables for extra convenience.

This is like my local so I am fond of this place but I agree with one reviewer that it does need a revamp. The xmas decorations up on Sunday were lovely and added a sparkle to the place. I have to strongly recommend the soup here, it is devine and I mean same top quality as you woul dget in a fancy restaurant. Really rustic, thick, creamy with side order of brown bread! What more do you need to warm the winter cockles!! the toasted sambos we got werent as up to scratch though? Ham was cut so thick and the onion wasnt toasted in the toasty, either was the tomato so disappointing on the sambo side. Staff are always really nice here though and this experience wouldnt make me not eat here again. I have eaten here a few times before and always had a good enough feed. but now I always go for the soup! its gorgeous!

Dropped in for lunch and was surprised to see how few were there. The decor is dated and the whole place should be revamped. The food was tasty but very over priced for what you get. A panini and chips for 12 Euro is not good value. Their coffee was nice but I certainly wont be going back in a hurry.

I went here on Sunday for the carvery. The waitress was lovely but I felt sorry for her, she was run off her feet. Had the roast beef and husband had lasagne. All my roast beef came with was cabbage, carrots and a scoop of mash. I asked was there any roast potatoes, yorkshire pudding or stuffing. She came back with a bowl of stuffing. They did have baby pototoes but I love roast potatoes for Sunday. My husband was still hungry after his lasagne and chips, not great portions at all, would not go back for eats. Heard the lady beside us commenting on the small portions too.

Went here for lunch on Thursday with a friend and her 2 children, one of whom was asleep in a buggy. After being refused entry in the Eden, we were on the lookout for child-unfriendly signs, but there were none. No problem with kids, buggies, table service (with a smile), great menu and excellent service. Chicken Goujons and Chips on the kids' menu was fresh breast of chicken and the chips were chunky, homemade and gorgeous. Decor dated a bit at this stage, but we were treated properly, spent money and will go back.

Well after reading rascal23 I said to myself hey I am going to go here and see what it is all about! I went in the door around 8.45pm to be greeted by a nice chap who looked after me with a pint ( pint of becks 5.10 ) which was nice in a cold glass. I got chatting to the lads at the bar about the hurling which is nice when the lads at the bar can talk to you about sport. Shows they are not in to there fast cars and women hehehe. So I ordered fillet steak and chips which to be honest was the best damn bit of meat I had in the longest time. I said to myself I would stick around for a while went outside had a smoke which every one does after a nice slap up meal. When I went out I was happy to see they have a bar out in the beer garden! So that was me, they sold it to me... with out going on to much it gets 5 stars for me every thing was A1. See you next week orchard!

I have only moved to Rathfarnham in the last month. I didn't know this pub was owned by the same owner as the goat. The food here was amazing. I had half roast chicken it was amazing and my two friends has the pasta, the also thought it was lovely. It was a Friday night when we went in. It was buzzing. I didn't think pubs like this were still in Ireland. Cant wait to go tonight (Saturday). It is now my new local. If you haven't been you should defo go if its not for food then just for the atmosphere!

What do I say here, the food was bad, bad, bad the menu is not very appealing to the eye so I had the fillet steak with chips to me straight forward, I asked for medium rare by the time I got it which was 40 minutes later, it was well over done. The fries looked as they had been fried over and over again the waitress was pleasant but a waste of good money for food.

Whilst the atmosphere is usually good in the Orchard I can’t say the same about the food unfortunately. I have had most of the mains over the years and would only recommend the stir fried chicken or the omelette's. Everything else is pretty bland. Ciabattas and open sandwiches are fine when grabbing something 'quick' while drinking in the orchard but couldn’t sit down for a formal dinner there again.

I visited there a couple of times while visiting relatives Wednesday 6th being the most recent for lunch. As I am such a fussy eater I went to the carvery to view the menu options. May I say the staff were very efficient and helpful and the food was delicious. I had baked chicken with all the trimmings it was great value and I will definitely go back.

Nice pub to eat in, staff are friendly and there is usually a good atmosphere! However, I think the menu is quite small, not much choice, there is a lot of choice though if you like seafood! I ordered the fillet steak as nothing else caught my eye. This was priced at €20, cheap for a fillet steak in Dublin and it was very tasty. Served with a little bit of mash and onions and mushrooms, the onions were a bit watery so I didn't eat them but everything else was lovely.. They should have more of a snack menu though..IMHO!

I used to eat there a lot however the standard of food has dropped and I don’t go there as a result. The service is good and the wine and drinks in general are expensive. Pity as I live very near to the pub.

I have been here quite a few times, I think this place is over rated and over priced! Food is always just average, nothing special at all, and menu never seems to change. Staff are very quick, and friendly.

I have been going there for years but the menu never seems to change, food is of good quality, prices are quite cheap, atmosphere and service is friendly so it is good for a nice carvery but I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a nice comfortable relaxing place to dine in.
