I visited the Wild Goose with my husband for Sunday lunch. We arrived arond 1pm and the place was fairly empty. Only a couple of other tables with people. Decor is lovely and inviting. We sat near the window so was great to look out on Ranelagh Rd. We had the lunch special of €24.95 for 3 courses. We ate tomato soup and caprese salad for starters. Nothing amazing. Tomato soup was a bit watery and could have been out of a can...For mains we had the risotto and chicken. both ok but nothing special. Best part was the dessert - ice cream and apple pie - can't go too wrong with those options though! Service was great. Very quick and friendly. May go back to see if there's been an improvement but will only give it one more try.

Been meaning to visit the Wild Goose for some time. But it is popular and early bookings are essential, and this does not always suit our last minute decision habits! Atmosphere is good. Understated entrance leads up stairs (two flights) to nicely laid out restaurant area divided into two main sections. Tables have just about the right separation for privacy, and it's a full linen service. We had a selection of seafood (tuna, scallop and squid) as a starter. Very nicely presented and prepared. For main course we shared Cote de Boeuf. A very large rib eye on the bone, carved at the table. Again excellent presentation and preparation. At €58 for two, the main course was expensive, but did include all sauces and vegetables. Chipped and pureed potatoes, as well as pureed root vegetables. Deserts were good, but the cheeseboard was dissapointing. Cheap convenience store type cheeses. Sorry guys, but if you are going to serve cheese (€14), you must treat it with as much care as your other courses. Service throughout the evening was excellent, and manager - Sheerin - was very helpful and informative. Overall, we thought the experience was very good. However, expensive (but quite ordinary) wines plus the high costs of all menu items, makes this quite an expoensive night out!

Ate here recently with two of the 'girls'... we had a really lovely evening..style and overall atmosphere of the restaurant is we all agreed really excellent. This is a smart place! We all had a goats cheese with aubergine starter which was delicious and plates were clean after. I had the hake for my main course and it was the nicest piece of fish I have had in a long time...delicious. We had a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc between 2 of us and I had two glasses of Salice Salentino - a gorgeous Italian red. Service was impeccable. The early bird runs all night on a Wednesday so all this lovely food/drink was at excellent prices. Cant honestly think of anything bad to say about the place and will definitely be back. Go visit!

Really good food :) I was there recently for a romantic night out and the atmosphere was fairly condusive to that. Food in itself was excellent- both of us went for the monkfish and it was absolutely delish!! The wine on the side was rioja and washed the whole meal very well, followed by a fantastic chocolate dessert. Slightly on the expensive side but worth going to as a treat.

Enjoyed the early bird menu for starter and main and opted for dessert from a la carte. Starter, lemon sole, quite nice but badly presented in a small bowl on a plate making for an awkward eating experience. Main course, lamb, was very nicely presented in cylindrical form atop mash and peas. Wines, red and white, were nice. Dessert was sadly not as good as I expected it to be. I love the layout of the restaurant and will certainly return.

Instant warm atmosphere when stepped inside the door. The place was bustling on the particular Friday evening we went here. We both had the Soup of the day for starters which was divine!!! Had the Venison for main course, which i had never had before. I was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. Could not manage a dessert, although the portions initially appreared small they were extremely filling. Great atmosphere and excellent food.

A nice place, with regards to good lively atmosphere, good and friendly service, and fine food. The portions are relatively small, but you won't go hungry. The Corn fed chicken is delicious. I would describe the food as ordinary food with a tiny bit of extra effort or quality put in somehow. Not a bad place overall. Handy Location in Ranelagh five minutes from Beechwood luas stop and just beside a taxi rank, however Im not sure where you would find parking on a weekend night.

I went here a Christmas party lunch. Food was delicious and service was excellent. On the downside, portions were very small and I was hungry again in a couple of hours! I would go here again for an evening meal, as the atmosphere was great, even at lunchtime.

Excellent restaurant with a great atmosphere. Food is very impressive indeed. The only fault I would have is that our white wine was not left on table which meant we were waiting a while to get more. when glasses were running low

Another favourite of mine thats very consistent . Really good food everytime and great selection of wine. My only gripe about Wild goose grill would be the tables are a little too close together for my liking although some would say it adds to the atmosphere its also a little intrusive ,not so bad if you are at the window seats Excellent service/food in a central location !!!

Six of us had dinner here on Saturday evening. There were a lot of what appeared to be Christmas parties, which in fact added to the buzzing atmosphere. I had the scallops which were cooked to perfection and served on pea and ham risotto, I couldn't fault it. All of our starters were really good except for maybe the crab starter which we felt was not at the same level. All of our main courses were beautiful. We had no complaints. The wine was flowing and we had a really good evening. I will definitely be back.

I'd been here 3 wks previous and was therefore really looking forward to it again. 6 of us had a really great night - food as always was fantastic (for 4 of us anyway) and the wine flowed (when we asked...). I had recommended this place to my party of six and I'll go back again based on previous experiences but I'm not sure the rest of my party would. As I said, food was amazing, but only for 4 of us - the goose, it's namesake, was as tough as ol' boots - and I brought to the waiters attention who was very apologetic - but it still appeared on the bill, it was taken off after again raising the point. We had two other gripes - we very disappointed the 'cote de boeuf' wasn't available, despite being available to other guests who'd arrived later than we had. And the wine, the place was busy but I was under the impression restaurants made their money on wine, we had to ask a number of times for more wine. Other than that we had a fantastic time, food was great, atmosphere great and will definitely be going again!

We had a really good time on Friday night. Enjoyed the food very much and wine was superb! I did book the table in advance because the restaurant was fully booked previous Friday. Will do it again soon.

Visited the Wild Goose for Sunday Lunch after purchasing the 2 for 1 menupages deal. The restaurant was busy enough with a decent enough atmosphere. I had the caprese salad to start while herself had melon with serano ham. Both of these dishes were delicious and prepared to perfection. The beef and corn-fed chicken were our choices for main course - neither of which managed to disappoint. The servers were friendly and attentive - I will definitely return again!

Attended a small Dinner party for a 40th Birthday, just a small group of friends. The atmosphere, service and food were superb. I never even knew this place existed, a great spot in the heart of Ranelagh, will be returning soon.

I had an amazing meal here last night with my boyfriend. We decided at the last minute to go out, so we didn't have a reservation. I had my heart set on eating here, so I didn't mind waiting a while to be squeezed in, as they were very busy. We were delighted to discover that the Early Goose Menu applies all night on Wednesdays, so really great value was available. The A La Carte Menu is considerably more expensive, and only average value for money, I thought. The atmosphere was great, although very loud, and the staff were very welcoming, knowledgeable, and helpful. Himself ordered from the Early Goose Menu, while I ordered a la carte. There was no difference in quantity or quality of the servings. My 'Goose Plate' starter, featuring foie gras, smoked goose, and goose confit, was a revelation. The veg accompanying his pork fillet tasted amazing, a combination of mash, petits pois, and baby leeks. The carrot puree accompaniment to my lamb was similarly delicious. We were too full for dessert, unfortunately, so we'll just have to go back. My boyfriend and I agreed afterwards that this was definitely one of the tastiest meals we have ever had.

I absolutely love this restaurant. I have been twice now - once in a group of 3, and again last week in a group of 10 for a birthday. The service is brilliant, the wine list is to die for, the food is delicious (I had the Goose Plate to start which I would advise everyone to go for and was the highlight of my meal!) and everyone around the table was delighted with their choices - no complaints at all which is rare in such a big group. My only tiny gripe would be that they don't have a fillet steak on the menu, but this is such a minor criticism it should hardly be mentioned and is only particular to me (as I love fillet steak!) It's not a cheap option, but you do get what you pay for - excellent dining and attentive staff. Will definitely be back for the next special occasion.

A well kept secret in Ranelagh. The Wil Goose exceeded my expectations, the lam was delightful and cooked to perfection. It's not cheap but they offer a good early bird if you go for that. It was a birthday and the staff could'nt have been more accomodating. A good spot for that special occassion.

7 of us dined here recently on a Wednesday evening. We arrived in shortly before 9 and found the dining room to be surprisingly busy with a warm atmosphere and great buzz, and appeared to be full of locals which is always a good sign. We had the all night 'early bird', offering fantastic value at 2 courses for just 19.95. I started with the black pudding which was absolutely delicious and perfectly fresh. The main of sea bass was equally tasty, fresh, generous size and enjoyed by all who chose it. The chicken also went down well with my partner, he started with the puff pastry and mozzarella tart which was fine, if a little unoriginal and would have benefited from some fresh basil leaves. The service was flawless, with a nice gap between courses. Our wine glasses were never empty, and we felt very well looked after. It has been a few years since I had eaten here, but I will definitely be returning on a regular basis. Great food and service at affordable prices. Highly recommended!

Ate here with friends on Friday, had no reservation but we were seated in 10 mins at about 9pm. Service was prompt, the food was delicious, everyone was pleased with their choices. The wine list is extensive but the prices are top heavy. Decor is nice and atmosphere is pleasant. All in all a lovely evening.

I always look forward to going to this restaurant as the food is excellent and I like the subdude but formal decor. This time I went with a large group of mums on a Thursday night and it was extremely busy. The service was very slow this time and the waiter was a bit over zealous with pouring the wine (wouldn't leave bottle on the table as he had to "keep it cold"!!) so the bill at the end was much more than we expected, although the food element was very reasonably priced. There is variety in the menu and food presentation is good and would return sometime in the future when I have forgotten how much I paid for the wine!

we have eaten here twice in the last month for early bird menus on a Friday . The athmosphere is most pleasant and relaxed. the restaurant is nicely busy but coping very well. There are no delays for food or drink and service is attentive but not imposing. Prices are a little high but acceptable as they give a very enjoyable experience for the evening.

Visited the Wild Goose for a family occasion and have to say was very impressed with it. We were late arriving and I had been told that it wasn't a problem, not to bother ringing if we were running late, our table would be waiting for us when we got there. It was mid-week so I'm sure it's not always possible for them to be this flexible but I thought it was a very nice touch. The service was good, little slow at the start but then very attentive but not overly so. Wine was delicious and because it was a Tuesday we were able to have the set menu for €24.95 for three courses which is very good value. I had black pudding and apple to start which was a great combination. Then had sea bass. Very, very tasty. Portion not huge so maybe not enough if you were very hungry. The chicken and chorizo was a bigger portion and the mushroom risotto was as well. Everyone enjoyed their meal. The desserts were slightly less impressive. The pavlova was more like a meringue nest and the brownie would have been better had it been warmed up but it had lots of nuts in it and was tasty. Definitely worth a visit particularly for early bird menu.

we were aiming for dinner elsewhere in ranelagh, but it was too crowded, so we went to the wild goose. the restaurant is just lovely- i loved the layout of the tables and the service was excellent. however we shared scallops to start, and only got 3, which isn't great value considering how much they cost. My boyfriends lamb was lovely, as was my halibut. however it was quite a pricey night out. definitely worth another visit, as i haven't fully made my mind up on this one.

I really like this restaurant in Ranelagh. Sometimes a restaurant upstairs doesn't work, but in this case it's nice to be slightly away from the noise of Ranelagh village. Go for the cote de boef - they carve it at your table for you.

I have eaten at the Wild Goose on numerous occassions, but whilst we had a good night this night, I felt the food was definitely not up to its usual standard. There were 4 of us dining, I had the lamb, which I must say was very fatty and quite bland. The other guys had steak which they enjoyed but felt it wasnt its usual best. Wine list is good value and its great to have a late drink in the bar downstairs. We will be back though/

Ate here with a friend on Sunday evening. We arrived without a booking and were warmly greeted. Given a lovely table and the waiter who looked after use was very professional and warm. Wine waiter was also very helpful and friendly. Boringly my friend and I had identical meals - Frois Gras and Veal. The Sauternes I had with my Frois Gras was a real addition to the experience. The Frois Gras itself was really good - lightly seared and the brioche and Jus were lovely. The Veal for main course was really delicious, beautifully cooked, was a very generous serving and the accompanying vegetables were delicious. It being a major 'catch up' dinner we also went for deserts - a very clean Panacotta for me and a chocolate bavarois for my friend. Mine was the winner here. We drank a very lovely Gavi de Gavi with dinner and while not a cheap evening it was real value for money. Well done The Wild Goose - great food, in a lovely room and were served. I'll be back.

Third visit to WGG in two years and same niggling issue persists. Room is great, wine list is very good, staff are friendly and professional but the food lets the whole place down. It's a shame because this could be a very good restaurant.

I was looking forward to coming here but ultimately left disappointed. My tuna starter was the blandest started I have had in a long time. The rack of lamb (28 euros!) was tough - at one stage I was hacking away and it nearly left my plate. The dessert was delicious and everyone else had fish and loved it. The restaurant itself is really well designed & has a nice buzz. But the service and food let it down.

We visited on Sunday at around 7pm. The restaurant was not full but there was a great bistro buzz around nevertheless. For starters I had foie gras on brioche. It was really delicious and was served with a drizzle of slightly sweet sauce which was bursting with flavour and worked really well . My wife had jumbo prawns in a light tempura batter. I tasted a bit and they were great. They really were jumbo too! As our mains came we noticed the restaurant had filled up and the buzz grew. We both had sirloin steaks with goose fries and roasted veg. I had blue cheese sauce on the side. The steaks were char grilled and seasoned to perfection. Really good. The goose fries are a superior bariety of flavoursome fried potato and are to be highly recommended. The veg were soft and were delicious too. We had a Nice bottle of red to accompany the meal. Overall we came away feeling we had eaten a lovely meal and that along with the warm friendly service made our day ! Total bill Approx €150 plus gratuity.

Just back from a fabulous Sunday lunch. The Wild Goose consistently produces the goods in terms of excellent food, great service and value for money. The manager is a real professional and was great in making our 3 children feel very welcome and important. He also has a great team. The service through out the meal was attentive, professional and friendly I would definitely recommend the Wild Goose for a really special Sunday lunch.

Availed of the all night 'Early Goose' menu last Tuesday evening. Excellent choice available. I had one of the best bowls of mushroom soup I've ever tasted to start - my companion was equally pleased with her Ballontine of Chicken. We both had Lamb shank for our mains - gorgeous meat which fell off the bone on a generous amount of creamed potatoes, with roasted root veg (carrots & parsnips) and a very tasty gravy/sauce. Didn't do dessert but had coffees. Also sparking water & a very nice bottle of Australian wine with the meal - total cost before tip was €80 - great value. Added a generous tip 'cos the service was very good as well. This was a first visit - will definitely be back.

A hidden gem amongst the hustle and bustle of Ranelagh eateries. The Early Goose has a super selection and you won't be disappointed on price, taste or presentation. The service can be a little surly at times but then it wouldn't be a french bistro if it wasn't!

Arrived into a room that felt very warm and inviting and had a great sound of chatter going around. Offered water immediately and bread arrived very shortly after. Very cheerful staff answering any questions we had. Great wine suggestions made to us. Fab starters and main courses (exceeded our expectations based on the descriptions on the menu) . Great spot and will definitely go back.

I went to The Wold Goose Grill for a 69th birthday party (my mother in law's). As it was the night of the big blizzard we were late to arrive and were told it was absolutely no problem and were seated at the reception to have a pre-dinner cocktail. We were seated when we were ready at a round table for the six of us. Despite the cold weather the restaurant was full to capacity and the atmosphere was buzzing with activity. The waiting staff were tenative without being "in your face". For my starter I had the goats cheese balls, they just melted in my mouth and were not too filling, a nice light starter. My main was the risotto, cooked to perfection, it was a little bit heavy and although I had ordered the dauphinase potatoes I really didn't need them. It was delicious, very cheesy and perfectly seasoned. For dessert I had the creme caramel, it was a regular one as the cappucino version was not available. It was served with the most deliciously light melt in your mouth shortbread biscuit I have ever tasted. It was the most perfect creme caramel I have ever tasted. The meal came to €75 per head, we had two bottles of wine and pre-dinner cocktails. Not a cheap night out but great for a treat!

I had an early bird here last week and found the atmosphere in the Grey Goose to be surprisingly good considering the early time we ate, although I suppose it is Christmas. I had a duck starter which was very nice, but I found the dots of orange sauce to be a little bitter, almost pithy. I had seabass for main which was nice but extremely small. I had eaten it in about 4 minutes and I was still starving afterwards. There was also some kind of vanilla sauce on the plate which tasted exactly like home-made custard. It was really a bad match for the fish. Apart from that though it was tasty enough. I had a very large slice of brownie afterwards, but to be honest I would personally prefer a bigger main course and smaller dessert. I might go back for the early bird if they changed the menu. The a la carte seems to be quite expensive.

my girlfriend and i visited the wild goose grill 3 weeks ago and went for the set menu. i had the prawn cocktail and the sea bass. the prawn cocktail was decent enough but didnt blow me away. the sea bass was nice although i'm not sure about the vanilla sauce. The waiter was also able to recommend a reasonably priced wine which was very nice. we both had desserts too and the whole lot was very reasonably priced. i would certainly be tempted back to give it another go.

I've been to the Wild Goose Grill many times now and I don't think i've ever left disappointed at either the welcome, quality of the food or service. Last night the restaurant was exceptionally busy however our table was ready exactly at the time we booked. We decided to order two of what turned out to be a thoroughly superb Cote De Boeuf between four of us last night instead. The service throughout was attentive and very professional. They have a great looking menu too but if you like your steak then its difficult to open your eyes to the rest of the menu when the steak is this good! Superb and a very satisified foodie!

I eat out pretty much everyday!!!. I have a bizarre job which means I have visited almost every restaurant in Dublin. So I reckon I'm qualified to provide a review. I have to say that the Wild Goose is probably the best in town. I love steak and always thought elsewhere was the best place but on balance when you weigh up cost, surroundings, service and the atmosphere I think the Wild Goose is easily number 1. I recently shared a cote de boeuff with a colleague and it was simply outstanding. The wine is reasonably priced and the staff are ultra efficient while still being friendly. Top marks every time.

Finally made it to the Wild Goose last Saturday at 9.15pm. The room (a lovely setting) was hopping - possibly leinster match related. Sirloin and cote du boef and one other main were gone at that stage and were waiting about 30mins for starter but staff quite apologetic. Huge wine list and a much higher proportion by the glass than most places. We eventually had scallops and tuna to start and rib eye and duck main, no dessert and a e29 wine (staff recommendation) - e120 all told inc tip. Not cheap but there is an early bird. Food was good/solid when it arrived without being stunning. Having said all that WGG is pobably the best dining experience in Ranelagh at the moment.

Went to the Wild Goose last night for a celebratory dinner. What a place, was immediately impressed from the second I walked in the place. Goegeous, comfortable decor, nice lighting, friendly, attentive staff. The food was fantastic, exactly what I wanted, all brought out in a prompt manner. The menu is wide and varied. There was a fussy eater amoung us and their tastes were catered for. Another had to leave for a moment so they kept his food warm for him. Nice touch. Very impressive wine list with something to suit everyone's taste and budget. Don't be afraid to ask for advice on wines though, these guys know their stuff and are not afraid to point you in the right direction, budget considered. A refreshing change!

After being recommended the Wild Goose by a friend, I booked a celebratory dinner there on Saturday. I was expecting good; but what we received was well beyond fabulous. The surroundings and atmosphere are the best I’ve experienced in a very long time. The wait staff were attentive but not clingy. The whole package spoke very highly of the restaurant itself; talented staff, sumptuous food and overall a really, really enjoyable evening. Recommend the cote de beouf and the orange chocolate moose! Proper dining experience.

Had booked this through you guys and mentioned it was our anniversary, i would normally do this as it adds to the occassion if the restaurant adds in a little amuse bouch or something small (or even mentions it) but no sign this time...not a biggie. the restaurant was packed on the wed night, think they do the early goose all night on wed so thats working a treat, great buzz but very noisy, only when people started to leave did it get better. Maybe if they had a carpet/rugs? anyway to the food. starters were top class (fish pasta and pork belly) my wife's main was very good too but my duck ( I have to stop ordering duck!) was a bit tough but tasty....the sweet potato and sides were very good and complimented the duck very well. service was a little slow to start but they were all very nice and very good. Price was a little high (we stuck to the a la carte) for these times. This was our second visit and we will be back. Nice restaurant.

I went to the Wild Goose Gril for my birthday and it was one of the best meals I have ever had. The atmosphere in the place on a friday night was fantastic. There was such a buzz about the place It was really busy and even though we hadn't reserved beforehand they made every effort to find us a table for two. The staff were not only pleasant and mannerly but their service was impeccable. The food was simply delicious and I would whole-heartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who's looking for an exceptional dining-out experience without the over-inflated bill at the end! Fantastic!

The all evening Early Bird menu on Wednesdays is brilliant. Great food and good service. We were a gaggle of girls - it turned out to be a surprise Big Birthday dinner for me, so I really enjoyed it. Staff were great sports and Birthday dessert was duly served with candle and a hearty rendition of the Birthday Song. Very convenient in Ranelagh.

Was happy with this place. I ate off the early bird and was very happy, whilst my bf went for the lamb off the regular menu(€28) and was not so impressed. they seemed to be very heavy handed with the cream (in the soup, mash etc) but the desserts were to die for and i would certainly return (for the early bird, which is actually available all night wednesday)

Was here last night with a group of ten, however we were clearly squeezed into a table for eight, which was terrible. It made the whole seating arrangement very awkward and uncomfortable. The room itself looks very good. And was quite busy for a Wednesday night. Overall, the food was very nice. The exception being the Carpaccio of Tuna, which was ridiculously small...too small. I wouldnt recommend this place.

We ate here a month ago on a Wednesday night. It was pleasently full given the fact it was mid week which created a nice atmosphere. The rooms in this restaurant are superb and are only surpassed by the friendly and attentive waiting staff. I had scallops to start followed by lamb. Both were superb. I'd also strongly recommend the Goose potatoes. The wine menu is extensive to say the least with a bottle for all price ranges. For me it's the best restaurant in Ranelagh and I've been to quite a few.

I was quite disappointed by the Wild Goose. We popped in here for dinner mid-week. The staff were nice and friendly, and the decor and setting was lovely. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations. What sounded nice on the menu ended up bland and tasteless on our plates. And the portions were tiny. My starter of mozzerella and cherry tomato salad was mostly a plate of lettece with (I'm not kidding) three tiny cherry tomatoes and the barest hint of dressing. My main of seabass fillet was the smallest portion of fish I think I've ever gotten... it would have been ok for a starter but definitely not for a €24 main course!. My partner had scallops to start (three tiny scallops on a huge plate) and pork as a main, which was a decent size but very dry. We had to ask for a re-fill of our bread basket to fill the gaps! We shared a cheese plate at the end - 4 very small slices of (to be fair, very tasty) cheese and some dubious looking chutney. The best parts of the meal were our window seat and a fab bottle of pinot grigio. We won't be back though.

My belly shuddered as I noticed GRILL over the door (bad memories of the previous occupant and dodgy road side GRILLs I suppose). Pleasantly surprised by the comfortable and atmospheric room. Loud though.. you cant beat a carpet in a dinner room. Impressive wine menu. Had the Calamari: very creative & excellent. Duck starter the same, very well presented. Bread by Maison; as per. Main courses a disaster. Worst rice pudding (risotto) ever UGH. The CanAloneE would have been best left AlonE, serious taste of Dolmio and heavily relient on cream. Nothing on the dessert menu impressed. For a diner that competes on price with the best, it's got some work to do. For the average Irish punter : This place will blow your doors off. If you've eaten abroad, well....

I ate in The Wild Goose last Friday night, I eat here with my partner regularly and I have never been disappointed. I had mouth watering scallops to start followed by a ribeye steak cooked to perfection, we enjoyed a bottle of spanish wine which was decantered & served in beautiful glasses. This is a restaurant that I feel offers great value for money, it's not cheap put the quality of the food and wine for the prices you pay is fantastic. The decor is gorgeous and there is always a really friendly buzzy atmoshpere. I can highly recommend this restasurant based on many visits.

I was here a couple of weeks ago with some friends and LOVED it! The atmosphere was amazing so we decided to enjoy a drink at the bar before going to our table, it wasn't a problem. We got a lovely table and the food was super. I had a steak with peppercorn sauce and it was perfectly cooked. We enjoyed several bottles and at no time felt rushed or under pressure. I highly recommend it.

We ate there last Saturday night, I needed to oganise a late booking for 4 people and had no problem in getting a reservation for 10 o'clock. The host was very friendly and recommended a beautiful bottle of wine at a very reasonable price. The menu is lovely and the restaurant has a very extensive wine list. The food was delicious. We were left to relax and enjoy our meal in peace. I would have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant.

Melt in the mouth scallops, great steaks and close proximity to McSorley's keep me coming back to The Wild Goose. The staff are friendly and the luxurious decor is a vast improvement on the previous restaurant that occupied this space. Definitely one of the best spots in Ranelagh.

Dined here for my work Christmas party and although it was nice I was a little disappointed. I had a spinach and semi-dried tomato tart to start and halibut for my main - both were good but they certianly didn't blow me away. However, I would like to go back to try their regular menu. The service was good and the atmosphere great.

I had a lovely meal here with my mothre one evening. The decor is beautifully done andthe restaurant atmostphere was relaxed and calm. The starter was a little dissappointing (watery prawns) but my aubergine main course was delicious! I would recommed it for couples as it was a lovely private atmosphere

Had a very pleasant evening here with good, if unmemorable, food. My starter of grilled asparagus with a poached egg was excellent but my main seafood platter (chosen from the starter menu) was very disappointing - particularly the prawns (shrimps?) which were insipid and watery. The company was great, the general atmosphere good (although hard to hear) but I won't be rushing back.

Decided to dine in the Wild Goose last Monday to celebrate my graduation with my family and was happy with my choice overall. The restaurant was quite busy for a Monday night! The waiters were very friendly and the interior is lovely. The soup of the day was white bean which was perhaps a bit strange but my scallops for starter were the highlight. There was good choice for the mains including pheasant which was good (except for the chicken liver accompanying it). The wine list was very good also. My parents could have perhaps done with a side order with their mains but were satisfied after the nice desserts. Will be visiting again!

Have visited this restaurant on two occasions. The food is very good, particularly the beef. But the service on our last visit was very poor. We had a different waiter for every course .Two tables who arrived after us were served their main course before us.. The frustrating point was that when this was brought to the attention of management, they tried to argue the point.

Had dinner here last night with 3 friends and it was really lovely. Had the nicest corner booth style table which was cosy and comfortable. Food was very nice and the staff were really friendly and fun. It's not cheap but it is actually good value for money given the standard of food and service. Lovely room to sit in and buzzy atmosphere.

I initially came to the Wild Goose as I heard it was setup by a guy who managed on the Ely outlets, which I liked. We were there on a Saturday night and are going back again this weekend. This is a buzzy restaurant, with a stylish ambience. They have an excellent wine list and a hearty menu. All of our party of four were happy with their choices which included the lamb, fish and pasta.

I came with a few friends for my birthday and it was one to remember. I found out later that my friends had arranged for the restaurant to bake a cake for me but they had forgotten but made up for it by presenting me with a complimentary custom dessert with my name on it. I hadn't expected it so it was a nice surprise. The food is very good and worth the prices they command. I would definitely be back. Portions are generous and the foie gras is highly recommended as a starter! The wine list is extensive and not overpriced either.

Ate here last night - my second visit. I think this place is great. Service was perfectly attentive without any self-importance or swagger - friendly and competent. The wine list is really good, and the staff know their stuff. We started with grilled asparagus and poached egg (just perfect!) and scallops (ditto...) and then had the turbot and the steak. I have to say that everything was flawless - (how rare is that??!) We followed with one of the best creme brulees I've ever tasted - and a couple of glasses of beautifully chilly Sauternes. Right now this is my favourite restaurant in Ranelagh. And - open on a Monday!

A friend and I recently visited this restaurant on a very wet Monday evening. The warm, beautiful dining room was a welcoming oasis. We were given both dinner and wine menus. The wine list is quite comprehensive. As we were both driving, however, we decided to share a half bottle only (a little more than a glass each). We noticed there was no listing of half bottles so asked the male waiter if the restaurant had them. He said they did and then asked 'How much do you want to spend?' Both of us were quite taken aback by this question and felt it very inappropriate, unprofessional and embarrassing. I answered 'around 17 Euro' and the waiter returned to inform us that they had no half bottles in that price range, adding insult to the previous embarrassment. We chose 2 glasses of a wonderful red wine Australian Cabernet Sauvignon to accompany our delicious and beautifully presented food. I would certainly go back, but would hope that the owners supply a half bottle listing on their wine list to avoid any further embarrassment.

I thought the place was overpriced, particularly the Sticks Australina Pinot at 27 Euro (raw and harsh). The helpings were far from generous. The venue is pleasant.

i have eaten in the wild goose before and found it very average. But on my return visit recently it has improved leaps and bounds. The veal main course was cooked to perfection and presentation has improved greatly. I would say that there have been changes in the kitchen and it reflects in the food. Service was excellent as always long live the goose

This was my first time at the restaurant since the change of name from Ouzo. The new decor and general ambiance is quite nice giving a classy but relaxed sumptuous feeling. The food, while not bad, is completely overpriced. We had three starters, one main, two glasses of wine, one dessert and one dessert wine and paid over 90 including tip. The french onion soup was beautifully presented the bowl being capped by a puff pastry crouton and well priced at 6 euro but 14 euro for the prawn, crab and avocado salad and another 14 euro for the scallops with clonakilty pudding is a ripoff for a starter. I think we might have been paying for the beautifully cushioned chairs and the Grecian tiling in the bathroom. My friend ordered the calf's liver which was the special for the night. However when this arrived it seemed to be medium rare and was quite nauseating in front of me. I had a taster and it seemed to be ok but there was generally too much liver on the plate. This too was 17 euro which wasn't too bad but how cheap can you buy liver at the butchers? Also the price of the wine per glass is having a laugh 8.75 for a glass of Portuguese white and 13 euro for a glass of red( chateau clark) is totally exorbitant. I think Wild Goose needs to remember that we are currently in a recession. The markup on all this fare must be enormous, I hope it pays off their new decor bill.

Ate in this restaurant last night. It was one of the nicest meals I've had in a long time. The interior itself is lovely, a big change from the former Ouzos. Much more relaxed and comfortable. The staff were very friendly and the food was fabulous. I had the scallops which were cooked perfectly. The duck was fantastic and my poor boyfriend had no blue cheese sauce left for his steak as I had it all eaten! Blue cheese sauce to die for! All I can say is Yum! I will definitely be back.

I made a booking in person a couple of days prior, but they couldn't actually find me on the list which was odd as I watched the guy writing down my details. Luckily we got a table. Our 3rd companion was half an hour late due to traffic. The staff were very friendly and efficient. It might have been nice to get bread in advance as I was rather hungry due to the late arrival of our friend and it only arrived with our starters. Our first bottle of wine ordered was corked, but handled very quickly and efficiently. The food was very good. I opted for the mussels followed by the pappardelle with wild mushrooms. My husband had 2 starters: Prawn, crab & avocado cocktail followed by Seared scallops with Clonakilty black pudding. My husband is still talking about the latter. Apparently the best Clonakilty black pudding he has ever tasted. Our friend had the French onion soup. The espresso was decent. We had a port and 2 muscats at the bar afterwards. The interior is a huge improvement on the previous Ouzo's. We will be back.

Had dinner here last Thursday & we were appalled at how badly we were treated by the management of a newly opened restaurant. We didn't have a reservation but we were told that we could have a table until 8pm (this was at 6.20pm) by 7.15pm they were practically pulling the plates away from us to deliver the bill (which we never asked for). After shelling out nearly €100 on very below average food I think that we deserved to keep our seats until 8pm. In summary, Fancy decor, Fancy looking food that tastes extremely bland but on the plus side very nice wine out of very nice wine glasses. I won't be back.

This is fast becoming one of my favourite places to eat. The restaurant is bistro style with the tables quite close together but not so close as to be off-putting. The staff are really friendly and will remember you each time you go back. The wine list is simply amazing with page after page to chose from, if you are not a wine expert they are happy to help. Our food was really, really good, the beef cooked to perfection and the sea trout just sublime. I would recommend for anybody to go there. This place is simply a gem.

Looks aren't everything! As I discovered at the weekend. Dined here on Sunday night having heard several good reports about the restaurant. Having been revamped, it is looking way more stylish than the previous decor of Ouzo's. The menu was very wintery and old fashioned too. The service was slow and a few mistakes were made but overall it was okay. The starters were quite tasteless and not great value for money at all. Our main courses were better but not much. The meat was nice but there was way too much mustard in the mash to the point of making my eyes water!!! They need a funky chef with some summery ideas if it has a hope of surviving in the already saturated restaurant market in Ranelagh.

Had dinner here last Saturday evening. Decor and atmosphere were great (although a bit cramped). Couldn't fault the service either. Food lacked depth and flavour. Dessert menu was a disappointment. For the the price paid, I would have expected a little bit more. Not in a rush to go back

I went to The Wild Goose last week for the first time. I didn't really like it. Firstly our table was in the middle of the floor with all the waiters running by. My meal was nice but nothing to write home about. Very hard to relax as there is so much going on around you - a lady was complaining beside me on next table about her lamb she ordered rare and it was well cooked couldn't help hearing it.

Definitely worth a visit We went with a group of friends. It was very busy and we had a table near the bar which made it very noisy. Therefore not a place for a quiet meal out. Food was slow in coming although the wine kept flowing so we were happy enough. I had the scallops which were excellent to start, best starter seemed to be however either the goats cheese or the smoked chicken salad. I had steak for main course, perfectly cooked, and the chips were home made-excellent! The lamb seemed also to be excellent. I tried the turnip which was delicious.

Excellent food and service. Good sized portions and very friendly/attentive staff. As it was one of the first nights open, there were some teething problems with a delay in bringing out the food. Pretty good value for money and a familiar menu done really well. Excellent wine menu too. One of the most enjoyable meals I've had out.

Went a long with a foodie friend last night. Very pleasant welcome and staff were pleasant throughout but we felt that there were some training gaps for instance we started with a glass of wine at the bar but weren't brought a dinner menu until we asked, then the Manager informed us that the table would have to be vacated by 8.30am whereas we were informed on booking that it was available until 9. There was no issue and we stayed until after 9pm. The manager did not seem very knowledgeable about the wine selection and when asked for a recommendation he started to bring bottles for approval one by one rather than going through the wine list with us (he did this eventually). My starter of crab and prawn was odd. 4 pieces of hollowed out cucumber filled with crab meat completed covered by a forest of salad which had been over dressed with sweet dressing. There was some prawn in there somewhere but overall disappointing. My friends bacon and cabbage terrine was fine but not exceptional. For mains we ordered rack of lamb and sirloin steak, both perfectly cooked and looking like something from a glossy cook book. On eating they were very tender but lacked any depth of flavour or adequate seasoning. My steak was clearly very young and almost veal like. Very average fare. We didn't bother with dessert but had a coffee and mint tea, we asked for fresh mint tea but the very nice waitress didn't get that but said its "Twining, my favourite" Total cost was €160 including tip and a €40 bottle of wine. For these prices they would need to pay much more attention to the quality of the ingredients. The place itself is lovely, white table cloths, nice china and cost decor.

Good layout and design. You can see the Ely influence hence the good wine list. Food is well priced for what you get. My wife had the beetroot salad to start which was great. I had the prawn and salad starter which was good but please take it out of the wine glass as I would have liked to see what I am eating. My fillet steak was excellent but could have done with some veg other than the grilled tomato. My wife had the chicken which she liked. Overall, good atmosphere and service with quality food at reasonable prices so I would say it is definitely worth a visit.

We ate here last Saturday night after reading about it in the Irish Times. The owner used to be the manager in Ely. Had a lovely night.... The service was a little slow but it suited us perfectly (probably finding their feet). We had a lovely bottle of New Zealand Sauvignon (and two glasses of house). We had mussels to share to start (lovely) and I had fillet and my husband had rib eye - both cooked to perfection and very good value at €25 (with sides included). The béarnaise was yummy but then I felt that the dauphinesses potatoes were a little dry. Dessert was a chocolate tarte which was delicious. My husband finished with a port. We will definitely be going back!!
