This place has come on in leaps and bounds since our last visit in 2010. Starters of Risotto and scallops were near perfect. The lamb shank melted off the bone. The hake was perfectly cooked. The only minus was an oversweet chocolate pot with cointreau which had the texture of a blackmange which was taken off the bill. I'm sure that was just a hiccup. The service was friendly and effecient. Brandy unfortunelately was served in whisky glasses. Invest in a few brandy baloons, go easy on the sugar and you have a 5* establishment. Highly recommended.

I love love love love this place!! did I mention love! ''Thank you Seagrass for your fabulous early bird menu that allows us to have a three course meal of the most delicious food for a very reasonable €21. Change this and I may not love you so much!!! '' The last time I went here I ordered the paté with my very own little sour dough loaf (adorable), followed by the Pork belly (heavenly), and just about finished off with a Cointreau and chocolate pot (waddled home ). My boyfriend had the goat's cheese starter( light as a cloud!), salmon (was slightly jealous) and the crumble (yum yum). Needless to say, we were happy as Larry. In fact, we were happier! This place is a gem of a restaurant. A la carte is quite expensive but the Early Bird is the best!

Great value early bird menu.Good atmosphere.Nice decor. We were seated upstairs which is nicer than the basement in my opinion. The service while friendly, wasn't great. Te waiting staff seemed to be very concerned with the downstairs big group that were there. We were waiting a LONG time for all our courses. The food was ok. Good starter of pate, tasty and nicely presented. My main course wan't great. I had the chicken, poussin, VERY dry and overcooked. Desserts were nice. the BYOB policy is great.

Is this the cheapest and tastiest plate of food in Dublin?! When you factor in wine....I think it is. There were nine of us ladies heading out to watch the rugby for a friend’s birthday, so we decided to meet for an early dinner at 5:30pm. I'd booked a few weeks in advance being a Saturday. We opted for the early bird dinner which was 3 courses for €21. The food was incredible - I opted for a lovely, smooth, chicken liver pate, which was presented very nicely set in a little glass with different textures and chutneys on offer. For Main I opted for the pork belly with sweet potato and ginger onions. There was a lovely piece of pork (huge piece - but no crispy skin as it had been braised). Very tasty indeed. Then a perfectly nice apple crumble to finish. Best of all - it's BYO with NO CORKAGE. So you can bring a bottle of your favourite wine rather than choosing a bottle for €30 and being disappointed. Service was fantastic as the food came very promptly, and service was very efficient. They were very accommodating, with some people choosing off the a la carte menu – not a problem at all. Three of us stayed to finish our wine, and we never felt rushed even on a busy Saturday evening service. By the time we left it was fairly full. Every plate that was served was well presented, thoughtful and a decent portion. Best of all it was tasty. Only disappointing thing of the night – the rugby was cancelled.

My gf and i are big fans of Seagrass and not just because of theyre great BYO policy, the food is really creative, fresh and interesting, we visited last night and it was packed upstairs, only niggle lately is that it is very busy and a bit noisy but its other great traits make up for this, we both went for the set menu, i had a lovley wild rocket salad and Gf had a beautiful roasted red pepper and basil soup, for main i had a lovely slow cooked lamb shank and gf had a really great salmon with shell fish, we shared a chocolate pot for desert which was a perfect end to a lovely evening.

We went to this restaurant for a christmas lunch. the restaurant was quiet when we arrived but became very busy with a large table dressed up in christmas hats. the atmosphere was very good. the food was very good all 4 of us loved the food. the service was excellent. the byo policy was great we brought champagne with us and there was no problem getting glasses etc. the food was really good value. I definately hope to be back with a large group soon. my only criticism was that there is no pictures of the restaurant on their web site so you don't know what to expect when you arrive. the down stairs smelt a little damp at first but once the drink and food arrived all was forgotton as we got the waft of beautiful cuisine.

I came here with a friend for the early bird menu and was very impressed. To start I had the pate which was beautiful. My friend had the spicy seafood soup which was to die for. I was still thinking about it the next day and wishing I had ordered it myself. For main I had the chicken and my friend had the risotto. Both were extremely tastey. The portions were a perfect size and the staff were very helpful. This restaraunt is also great value for money and is BYOB! I will definitely be returning to eat here again.

Visited for the Early Bird with 5 friends. The basement smelled a little damp - but we were happy with our table, and it was a really homely setting. The food was really really good. Three of us had the risotto and it really was the best I've had - just perfect. The chicken dish was tasty, but a bit on the salty side. Service excellent - attentive but not overly so. The restaurant got really busy an hour after we arrived so the atmosphere just got better. Terrific value - because of the BYO wine policy. I will be back - and looking forward to it. If risotto is your thing, go here.

I was disappointed when we visited Seagrass for the first time on Saturday for the early bird menu. I had heard good reviews. It started out well, with an ambiently-lit restaurant and friendly, attentive service. We both chose the Market soup which was deliciouly fresh and full of herbs and vegetables. It was served with a thick homemade herby bread. For our mains, my partner chose the sausages in a potato and onion gravy - all the components were completely sumberged in a thick gravy which lacked flavour and the food lacked texture. I chose baked chicken with shell pasta in a sweet onion sauce, (which in retrospect, was not a good idea). It was overly sweet, noxiously creamy and such a badly put together dish that I could only stomach a bit of it. We swallowed the above with a glass of house wine and an espresso each and the total bill came to just under €50, which is relatively good value, but the mains were unpalatable. Combine this with cheesy music and somewhat over-attentive staff (filling up our water glasses every 5 minutes) and you have a disappointing experience... reflected by my rating.

I have always been a fan of Seagrass and have been there many times - we live locally so would often pop in mid week or go with a group on a Saturday. We kind of went off it a little bit - it was just that every time we went we found that when you were reading the menu each dish had just too many component parts - chances are that if too many ingredients are used there will always be something that you dont like and will put you off ordering and the meals were just a little too heavy.. delicious but heavy... Saturday night - last minute decision we decided to venture out in the rain- weather was so bad we decided to go local and we called and made a reservation. Good job we did because when we got there the Restuarant was Packed. We booked the table for 9pm service was a little slow - but with a Restuarant packed to capacity thats easily forgiven. As we were only placing our orders at 9.30 we decided to go for mains only - they were all FANTASTIC. Seafood Risotto was the best he ever had - so stated the self styled "king of all things Risotto" - I had the Lemon sole with mussels - it was lovely and our other friend had the Cajun chicken served with Macaroni cheese- an odd combination we thought.. but gorgeous . There was nearly a fork fight as we battled over the pot of Macaroni. The bill came to €40.00 a head - including Wine, Water, Irish coffees & service - Great value. They do a byob offer - with no corkage once you order 2 courses - and there were a lot of big groups in for Birthdays etc - I presume they were availing of that offer - makes sense in a big crowd. We werent that organised so we bought a bottle of Red (lovely) and a bottle of White(awful) - but it was the one we asked for and when they stuck it in a chiller it got a bit better. It was great to see the Restuarant so full - and we have definitley put it back on our list of favourites..

I went here last night with my boyfriend. By complete chance we walked by it with the intention of going elsewhere but on seeing the set menu of 3 courses for 19.95 (or 2 for 22 and a glass of wine) and thinking that the menu looked too our taste we decided to try it out. We weren't disappointed. The manager (I assume) seated us straight away and was very attentive from the off, even though she was quite busy as it was only herself and another waiter working the floor and the restaurant was beginning to fill up nicely. To start I had the seafood soup. Very meaty spicey and generous with prawns, salmon and clams and served with a delicious homemade bread and dip. But I felt it was too big a portion for me. For mains I ordered the salmon in a pea and clam sauce with roast baby potatoes and carrots. Good hearty honest and quite enjoyable. Desert wasn't to my liking but that is down to taste. We ordered the 2 on offer. A banana and chocolate tart and an apple and cinnamon tart. Both were nice but too rich for me. My boyfriend quite enjoyed both although thought the pastry was too thick. Overall I really enjoyed Seagrass. The staff were great and should be happy with the service they provide and the food is very reasonable, especially considering the price you are paying. I would recommend it for a casual date, a night out with friends or even a relaxed family dinner. I will probably return soon.

I took my lady friend here for her 30th birthday dinner. The food was plentiful and of a high standard. The fact that Seagrass is a BYOB, and does not charge corkage (although they do request that each diner order 2 courses) is certainly an added perk. The only complaint that I have pertains to the acoustics. The restaurant was particularly packed, and this made for a very noisy dining experience. That being said, however, I will certainly visit Seagrass again.

Heard good reviews about this restaurant near the Grand Canal at Portobello in Dublin 8, so was looking forward to give it a try. Headed up on a Friday lunchtime when the restaurant seemed about half full. Main courses all great value at EUR 10 and the range included baked chicken, Goats cheese tart, Smoked Haddock and what I actually ended up going for was the Penne Dish with Peppers Tomatoes and Roasted Sausages. Tasted delicious and was served with a basil pesto on top, although I didn’t have a starter was given a generous portion of bread to also start with. Service was extremely friendly and attentive, would definitely recommend a trip though not sure what the dinner offer is like.

Returned to Seagrass recently for dinner, and it was amazing. The food was superb, really large portions, I opted for the Salmon main course which was beautiful. Although our party didn't avail of the BYO, the whole meal was delicious. Will return again a lot sooner.

wow, live close to here and dont know why i never tried it, maybe because i did not expect such a good restaurant on such a not so good street, anyway its quite stylish inside, kind of has a old fashioned new york eaterie feel to the layout, we dined on a wednesay night and it was full upstairs and as you can byo wine then i wasnt suprised, they dont charge corkage which is fantastic, i had a clam soup for starter which was amazing and had a salmon stuffed with smoked salmon for main course with a lovely stew sort of sauce with it. bf had a smoked haddock dish for starter and a really nice beef dish with liver for main, we couldnt manage desserts, the only thing i would say is the the portions are a bit big and you need a good walk afterwords! but all in all the nicest dining experience i have had in awhile and will be back.

Heard a lot about this place from a friend who's been raving about the early bird so decided to check it out. 3 courses for 19 euros or 2 courses and a glass of wine for 22 euros. I'm a big wine person myself, so the big plus is the fact that its a Bring Your Own Wine policy with no corkage, in the end I didn't find an off-licenece with a nice bottle so chose from their own menu., I went for the smoked pork, fennel & chicken pie with hummus & rocket for starter, to be honest I wasn't too sure what to pick, so i went for this, I finished it, but wouldn't recommend it, that adage that if you pay for something, you will eat it, holds up. I had the Penne, gorgonzola, spinach & mushroom for the mains, I liked it. Overall the service was superb, the food came out quite quick, but for me choice on the menu wasn't extensive, and even the BYOW policy wouldn't sway me to go back.If you're thinking of going, just check menu 1st but for me, wasn't enough, everything else was fine, imaculate toilets, plenty of room while dining etc & close to town & plenty of pubs in walking distance. I will leave the choice up to you.

Just blown away by the value and quality of food, as well as great service, all together in the one restaurant. I was surprised it wasn't packed - it has a great byob/w policy and an early bird menu for 19.99 - 3 good quality early bird dishes here - as well as this, it doesn't cheap out on an ice-cream sorbet dessert but gives a fruit crumble or chocolate dish. I went for the main menu as I couldn't resist the steak and wasabi sauce; had the mussels for starters. All were great. The Hungarian waiter was excellent.

Visited on a Tuesday night and surprised to find place packed. Staff were equally surprised and the 2 waiting staff were run off their feet. They did their best, but took an hour to get starters and whole meal took three hours. Seemed to be a large party of teachers having a party before long summer hols. We were celebrating a special birthday and had to endure a succession of speeches and then a raucous singsong. Despite the pressure the foodwas surprisingly good, with starters, mains and desserts all up to scratch. The BYOB was badly needed and we had no problem getting through our wine during the 3 hours. I presume the two large groups had prebooked, so no excuse for being understaffed on the night. They all were availing of the good Early Bird offers, but were still singing their heads off when we left at 11pm. We, paying the full price, were the ones penalised on the night.

I came here with a friend for lunch and I was highly impressed. I have to say that the starters were amazing, I had the tomato soup and it was the best I have ever had. My friend had the hummus and rustic bread, the mains were nice although a little oily, I had the little tart with a side of potatoes and salad. The desserts were a little overpriced and we went else where for dessert as a result of both the pricing and the fact that there was nothing of particular interest to us on there. I would definately return to Seagrass and I would maybe consider having two starters instead of a main course and starter.

Went here with friends for a birthday dinner. There was a great atmosphere about the place, busy but not too crowded. We arrived for the early bird, which is 3 courses for €19. I had a salad to start and thought it was really delicious, despite a few others finding the raspberry vinagerette a bit intense for their taste. I got the vegetarian pasta dish for my main course and it was another flavoursome dish and my choclate and banana dessert was also really tasty. The service was a little slow and we were waiting a while for our food, however, we were not in a rush so we didnt mind. You can bring your own wine here also, which is a major plus! Very good place for dinner, would recommend!

I came here with a large group of ladies before xmas and we were really well accommodated. The food was nice, we had the set menu, which is reasonable priced. The best thing was the BYOB policy, which really brought the price of our meal down. I would definitely go here again.

I've eaten here twice recently. I wasn't all that impressed the first time round but decided to give it a second chance. Although the restaurant was busier the second time we went, just before Christmas, we had a much better experience. It wouldn't be one of my favourite restaurants but the BYO policy on wine is particularly good.

I have been here many times and it is always, always good. The food is great - I have never had a dish here that hasn't been top notch - and the service is always warm and accommodating. What is amazing about this place though is the value! For the incredible quality of the food the value is amazing - two courses for under €20 - and the restaurant does not charge corkage on BYO so you can have a truly fantastic meal in a lovely restaurant for a very reasonable price. Seagrass is a hidden gem that is well worth a visit.

My mum goes here all the time and was always on at me to go, i was abit put of by location if im being honest but i am really glad i tried it, the waiter serving us was a really friendly guy and very informative of the menu, i had a mushroom tart which was really lovely, my husband had a spectactular seafood soup although it was a little spicy for me but he loved it, for mains i had a beautifully presented and cooked haddock dish and hubby had a really nice steak, we shared a mouthwatering chocolate pot, all in all a great experience and will be back soon and will reccomend to all.

I went there with my boyfriend to celebrate our anniversary without knowing anything about this restaurant, and I have to say I was left wondering how could I ignore this place for so long. The food was delicius, fresh, and exciting, the service was great and the prices are very much on the friendly side with promotions like you can bring your wine for no surcharge,or have 2 courses with a glass of wine for €25. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for honest and tasty food and affordable prices. I will be back soon

We came here with a party of 10; unfortunately we were table as you come in by the front door. The food was just ok; the seafood platter for two which was costly at 50E was only enough for one person. Very dissapointed with the variety of seafood on the platter too.

Best pick we made in long time. Went in with my two friends. Place was busy, we got the last table upstairs. Staff was very friendly. We were informed about the special Beef Burger with caramelized onion, chilli cheese, rocket salad, pickles and real fries for 14 euro which was my choice. Waiter told me that it is served only well done, but he checked for me if i could have it only medium which was very kind and it was no problem. My friends ordered from the set menu 2 courses with glass of wine for 25 euro. She had delicious Roasted sausage and vegetables pie and mixed berry crumble for dessert. My other friend ordered Goat's cheese starter and Lambs liver which were recommended to be served medium. It was all delicious we couldn't decide which dish was the best. Place is very cozy, food is AMAZING we will defo be back very soon!!!!!!

Went with my sister and her friend. It looked cosy and the menu looked good so we decided to try it. However there were no tables upstairs so we agreed to be sat downstairs which was decidely less cosy. And much less atmospheric (one other couple there who weren't talking to each other). The service was faultless except that the waiter recommended the mussels which were inedible. My sister ordered a ham tartlet type thing which really really tasted of tuna. It was nice but it just did not even remotely resemble ham. The waitress swore blind there had never been any tuna on the menu and none even in the restaurant. It was definitely ham. Weird. I ordered the spaghetti with mussels and just couldn't eat it. The mussels were over cooked and all small and shrivelled up. My sister ordered the risotto which was fine and her friend the chicken which she enjoyed. They didn't charge us for the mussels or our coffees which was fair enough. It's a shame that the food isn't better becuase otherwise it has all the right ingredients to be a success.

I have been to this restaurant twice and hope to be back again. The location is great, love the decor and the staff are so friendly. We had declicious tasty meals both times and the wine was also great. The breads and dips at the start are just yummy. They have some great deals on at the moment and even BYO wine with no extra charges. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Went here for a lunch with a friend one Sunday. The place was empty so no atmosphere really. We had the set lunch menu which was limited but it's usually the case with set menus. Value was good, think it was 2 courses for €12 or €14? Anyway we bottle of rosé which was gorgeous, then I had the soup. Was not impressed with it, it tasted of a ridiculus amount fo rosemary, I was literally pickign it out of my teeth. Mains was the seafood pasta which was nice but one fo my muscles when I opened it was full of black sand which fell onto the dish so it was ineditable after that. Staff were so friendly and nice and offered me another mains so I went for the same one of my friend as she said the risotto was nice. It was lovely but after a few mouthfulls I found a hair in it!! Wasnt a good dining experience for me and I wouldn't go back there. :(

Ate here last weekend based on reviews and were delighted with the evening. As soon as we entered we were acknowledged even though the restaurant was busy, nice gesture. The service was professional, efficient & friendly. Only 2 busy waiting staff but on the ball all the time. The food was great - the Cajun fish soup was so velvety & the portion of squid, red pepper & chilli risotto for starter was large. We had a fight over the traditional, undyed smoked haddock, pea & chive risotto, it was so right. The spaghetti with mussels in white wine sauce was large, filling & tasty. We were too full for desserts but had coffees. All in all an excellent meal at great value & would highly recommend a visit.

Love it, Love it, Love it.... Updating my previous review because of changed menu and more recent visits but nothing has changed - still really enjoy the homemade bread, dips and tasty menu. They have livened up the interior adding to the atmosphere. Good value and portions with their new swift lunch 2 courses for €13 but missing their old salmon & lentils dish :( In the last few weeks I've tried their new platai bia range 3 times recently (great idea). Some are smaller than others but all priced fairly from €4 - €9 a piece! Some an accquired taste like mustard, pea, bacon pasta but nice to try. Must haves for me off the lunch menu are fish cakes, meatballs, prawn/spicy risotto, pate, goats cheese/pastry... Garlic potatoes can be skipped, but their garden salad is nice and favourite with us has been the homemade chips (as you would expect from homemade). Unfortunately they haven't updated the dessert yet and still a bit heavy for me, (rice pudding/custard dessert). Maybe offer a light sorbet/fruit salad as one other choice? Great place for Sunay brunch. Want to try their dinner menu again soon. Fri lunch always seems busy but beyond that like others say it can be quiet so get a seat upstairs for some atmosphere.

I loved the idea of this restaurant with it's Irish style tapas and location by the canal. The portions in the Plata bia are big and there were some nice flavour medleys but I wasn't blown away. Twas very busy and the waiter looked oddly shell shocked but they were pleasant. It was a tad steep for me too but I wouldn't say overpriced and I would go back again when I'm a bit more flush perhaps.

Seagrass is just round the corner from me, so it's quite handy when the cupboards are bare and you don't feel like cooking. Go early and you can get some great deals, almost as cheap as cooking at home. The selection, especially the early bird menu is somewhat limited, but what they do, they do well. Staff are always friendly, it's just a shame it can feel a little too quiet sometimes.

I came here on a Thursday night to avail of the BYO offer with a group of friends. It was my first time here and I'll definitely be back. The food was excellent as was the service. We all ate off the evening menu there is also a great selection in the plattai menu which I'd love to try. The only thing was there wasn't much atmosphere in the restaurant, it was pretty empty which is surprising given the value (and the BYO deal!). They took are wine from us and kept it chilled as we drank through our bottles. Looking forward to my next visit!

Decided to try somewhere different for the Christmas night out this year and I am glad we did. Food and service was impeccable. The staff couldn't have been nicer even if three of our party bailed out on us at the last minute. Food was freshly prepared and cooked to perfection. I definitely intend to try again when the silly season is over.

I've been to Seagrass on a number of ocassions and am always very happy with the meal. The menu has a good choice and is very good value - particularly at the momen they have a number of offers on - including BYO on Wednesday and Thursday nights. Would happily recommend Seagrass to anyone looking for a good value, quality meal in very pleasant surroundings.

It was my second time there and I loved it again!! Food is delicious and the presentation of the dishes is also very nice. The only negative comments is that, next time I go there, I will book a table upstairs. The service downstairs part is a bit slow....

We dropped into Seagrass on Sat for dinner. We have been there before several times before and have always had really great food. It just has had a mini facelift. The paint job has made a lovely difference to the ambience with plenty of candles and nice lighting making it far more cosy and casual having lost the somewhat stark environment it had previously. Lovely friendly staff, nice laid back music all made for a real feel good evening. I am not normally one to write restaurant reviews but I felt compelled to let the world know about their Beef Striploin and Meatloaf Main Course dish. UNBELIEVABLE ! The beef was cooked to perfection and the meatloaf to die for. Can't recommend it enough. This place is simply great, and one of the best Sunday brunch spots in town. Good value with a lovely vibe. Keep it up guys !

wow excellent place, from the service to the food to the wine, such great value, we could of had a three course early bird menu between 5-7 for 20 quid including a glass of wine, but we had the 3 course ala carte for 25 instead, what value for the food you get, i had an amazing seafood soup followed by blossom fish which i have never heard of before with dublin bay prawns, really was exceptional, that and chatting with the charismatic & hot chef who i think owned the restaurant made this a very worthwhile visit, will be back soon!

This restaurant is amazing value for the standard of food it produces. I have been several times now and always look forward to going back. The restaurant is cozy and atmospheric and if you sit by the window you can watch the world go by. I would only recommend sitting downstairs in large groups though as the acoustics can be a bit loud if dining in a couple. The menu changes regularly and their special is amazingly good value at €15 for two courses. The last time I dined in Seagrass I had Mussels which were to die for, although I would have enjoyed some crusty bread to mop up the delicious sauce, unfortunately brown bread was all that was on offer. I followed this with a lovely meatball dish. Fortunately it was so big that everyone had a bit. My only critisim of Seagrass is that staff are a little off hand with the exeption of the Italian head waiter. One of my party sent his meal back (under-cooked liver) and although he was accomodated with something else we felt uncomfortable and ignored for the rest of the evening. That being said a few snotty staff members cannot take away from the quality and value of this restaurant. Long may it continue.

As I live around the corner, I popped in for a dinner last night with my neighbour and what a jewel Seagrass has proven to be! We sat in the front and did some great people watching. The bread was excellent and came with the best pesto I ate in a restaurant in a long time. For starters, I had a roast pepper soup, lovely and hearty. For main meal, my friend had a seabass and she liked it a lot and my chicken wrapped around a sausage was excellent! Portions are more than abundant and service was great. I really like the fact they brought the bread and pesto for a friend who just joined us for a glass of wine. Great value, too! One starter, two main courses, a side dish, two caraffs of a very good Semillon for 77 euros! Well worth a repeat visit.

I've been here on work lunches a few times, so decided to check it out for lunch and it was just as nice. there was a group of four of us and we all loved the food. the omlette, eggs benedict and no bread burger were all top choices and the lemonade is yum! i thought the portions were a little smaller than other places that do brunch (most would have more bread or some fries on the side) but it was a lovely brunch.

Had lunch menu here, two courses 15 or one 10. Given bread and tap water when you arrive, with pesto and tomato dip, nice touch. Menu has about 10 options for mains, tried the burger, arrived cooked to order and was juicy and flavourful, it is fairly big, so much so that skin on (tasty!) chips came in a separate bowl, very good value for 10eur. Serving staff are attentive and friendly, room is quite airy and pleasant upstairs (didn't see downstairs), and music was jazzy, with some nice paintings on the wall, although there were only a few diners which limited the atmosphere. Overall great experience and will be back a few times for lunch to try the rest of the menu!

We have been in Seagrass a few times and never got dissapointed. The food is excellent, fresh and very well presented with unique flavours. The staff is attentive, friendly and very informative. It is very good value, considering that you get a two course dinner for 20€. I would reciommend it to everyone...

Ate here with 3 others recently and would never go back. The food was average to inedible. Unimaginative and poorly presented. The pesto from the starter appeared again in 2 separate main courses, one of the starters - fish - was completely oversalted and inedible. The carpaccio of beef was tasteless and the risotto to be avoided. Very pricey too for a local restaurant. Has nice decor although downstairs smells damp and was empty.

Headed to Seagrass for lunch there last Saturday, a 1 pm sitting (as there was a certain rugby match we needed to be sat in front of a tv for!!!). It was our first visit, and as we'd heard wondering things, we were looking forward to it. Great value for lunch at €15 for 2 courses, or €20 for 3. Good selection also. For my starter I went for the anti pasta. Delish & plenty of meat! Mother dearest went for the green salad, also another generous helping, gorgeous salad dressing & a generous sprinking of cheese. For our mains we both went for the chicken & it was just lovely. It was served with a huge portion of gorgoues roast pototoes and a lovely creamy sauce. Only thing that put us off was the staff staring and staring at us - It was really off putting, they watched every morsel we put into our mouths! The food was great, but after the bout of staring - we don't think we'll be back!!

Went here with two friends on a wednesday evening for the early bird menu. Overall I was impressed. The food was excellent - We had mushrooms, lamb and parma ham to start - all very tasty and well presented. For mains we each had the supreme of chicken which again was excellent. My only criticism would be that the waiter/chef did not want to be put to any trouble. For example we asked for mash as a side and although it was included in one of the dishes on the menu it was not listed as a side, therefore he refused and said it was unavailable. Really don't think making mash would be a great hassle! Would recommend- just as long as you stick strictly to the menu!!

Beautiful place to visit for brunch- I've been here a couple of times and have never been disappointed! The menu is small enough but varied and everything looks nice. Given that it was Paddy's Day yesterday I had the Full Irish, which was a nice mix of traditional fry up and gourmet fayre- could have done without the obviously freshly made, but undercooked, baked beans though! Staff were friendly and attentive, and the ambience was good with some groovy music in the background. The early bird menu is also a great deal- €20 for 2 courses of really excellent food in a nice setting is good value. I'll be back!

We went here for brunch yesterday and it was really delicious and good value too. The food was so fresh and all made to order. Its only a surprise that the other locals haven't discovered the great food this place has to offer, it certainly serves the best brunch in the area. They also serve a good swift lunch circa €15 for 2 courses. Def worth a visit.

We went there for a Valentine's dinner and totally loved it again. I had chicken pate as a starter and vegetable penne as a main course. My partner had serrano ham as a starter and lamb liver as a main. We both liked that a lot. The staff were nice as usual and we had a pleasant time. I'd recommend this restaurant to everyone who likes delicate food for a great value.

I really like this place. Unpretentious, well executed food. This is a cosy local restaurant with nicely conceived menus. The food is always neat, delicately presented and fresh. The lunch menu is simple and well priced. If you are strolling in / out of town or work locally you should pop in. Worth a visit.

We recently ate dinner at Seagrass. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the place has a real neighbourhood feel. The service was patchy but pleasant. Unfortunately the let down was the food. We had a wide range of dishes, all of which were mediocre. The prices are reasonable, however if the food doesn't match, it doesn't represent good value. I wouldn't return.

A few of us went here for the early bird one night and absolutely loved it. The food was fantastic and great value as part of the early menu. The wine list was very good and reasonably priced, and our waiter was a very personable guy which made the meal that much more enjoyable. The atmosphere is nice too, quite dim lighting, only downside we were a bit close to the door which was freezing every time it opened! Would definitely go back for early bird or tapas again soon.

Visited seagrass for a christmas night out with five work colleagues. The set menu was reasonably priced at 42euro for three courses and had an interesting selection. staff were so accomodating especially considering members of our party were late and arrived sporadically!! i had the meatballs to start followed by sesame and goats cheese crusted organic salmon. the fish was amazing but the scallion mash that accompanied it was a little watery and tasteless. on the whole though this is a potential little gem. couldn't be more complementary about the staff.

Six of us went there for lunch last week. The restaurant does a lunch special - 2 courses for 15 euro. I had the green salad for a starter which was nice if not very memorable, and I had the risotto for my main which was really tasty. I would like to try this place again for dinner.

25 of us were in Seagrass for a birthday celebration on Saturday night, we had a relatively private area downstairs to ourselves, the staff were very pleasant, organised and accommodating. The food was good and everyone seemed very happy with their meal. The bill worked out reasonably given the numbers involved and the amount of wine that was consumed. We will definitely be back.

Visited Seagrass Sat night. The staff were over efficient bordering on obtrusive. The Venison shank was overdone. This resturant was ok but didnt really deliver. We would not return.

We went for an anniversary dinner after spotting the venue in the passing recently. This is definitely a restaurant worth giving a go as the service is friendly and accommodating, the food tasty and varied in options, and the wine list very reasonable. Keep it up!

Went to Seagrass for the second time a couple of weeks ago. I like Seagrass. We had a mushroom tart and a risotto to start, and both had the lamb plate for main course. Risotto was good, the tart had the wrong pastry for a savoury dish making it very difficult to eat without having bits fly everywhere when the knife went in! The cooking in the lamb plate was very good. Perfectly cooked pink loin and lovely rare liver and kidneys. Unfortunately there were several sweet accompaniments which made the overall dish very cloying. As I said at the beginning, I like Sea grass-it's got a good heart and some of the cooking is top notch. I just think they should simplify what they do a little because some of the food is too fussy and takes away from the overall dish.

Had a wonderful late dinner here on a Saturday night. We arrived at 10pm without a booking and were promptly shown to a lovely table. The restaurant has a lovely cosy atmosphere, and has more seating downstairs. We skipped starters and opted for two mains, a portion of fries, a half bottle of wine and dessert. The mains were tasty and well presented. He opted for the sausage and mash, while I had a minced pork dish encased in pastry and red pepper sauce. Yummy. We had a fabulous bread and butter pudding to share. The staff were friendly , and the bill was a very affordable 64 euro for two. I'll definitely be back again.

A group of us went here for a work dinner so a fairly mixed group and I must say we all enjoyed our experience here. The menu had something for everyone without being boring and the presentation of each course was really lovely. The staff were very attentive and the complimentary breads and soup we got were a nice touch. We all agreed we'd be back!

I have eaten here 3 times now and I must say a great little addition to an area of Dublin that is devoid of restaurants. Beautifully decorated and intimate restaurant. Food is modern, presented with style and reasonable priced. It not a place to go for a late night meal as it appears to empty early, but a great buzz in the place from around 7.00 to 9.00. The last time I ate there, I had the seafood chowder to start and probably one of the best seafood chowders I have every eaten and certainly a meal in itself. I than had the risotto, after seen this been served and eaten before really wanted to try this delicious dish and I was not disappointed - wow. The staff are very pleasant and I would recommend this restaurant, especially for a girls night out.

Recently visited this classy little restaurant with a party of 7 ranging from ages 3 to 73! What a find! The staff were warm friendly and very welcoming. They offered to ask chef to make homemade chicken nuggets(off menu) for junior, that Jamie Oliver would have been proud off! The teens went for the no bread burger, and didn't moan once, actually going as far as to say they enjoyed it very much! My husband and I had the risotto of mushroom etc, which was absolutely delicious. My father had the pan fried and home made chips that were so tasty that we ordered another helping just to pick at! With the exception of the baby we all went for the bread and butter pudding which was "to die for". I cannot believe my luck at finding such a family friendly restaurant so reasonably priced for such a high standard of food. I am still raving about it to family and friends. My teens only had one complaint and that was "They give you too much food mam"! Now, I don't know about you, but that'll do for me!

I was here with a large group recently. I was looking forward to sampling the menu - having seen the sample one and good reviews on Menupages. It didn't disapoint!.. My starter was the lovely and quite unusual squid chilli risotto. My only complaint was that it left me too stuffed for dessert. My main was a special of cod with rice balls stuffed with cheese and peppers... Lovely. This is a great place to come with friends for good quality food, and nice ambience - It's not neccesarily romantic date material.. But I'll definitly be back with the girls!

I visited this place with a party of 7. I didnt think I would be overly impressed as it is not normally the type of food I enjoy. We were seated immediately and ordered our food and drink. Very friendly & pleasant staff served us tasty bread and a tomato dip. Just after ordering the waiters came out with a haddock omelette each 'compliments' of the chef. They were served in individual lttle frying pans and even though I'm not a great fish fan I thought they were delicious. The service, food and wine were fabulous and a great night was had by all. I would highly recommend this place and cant wait to go back. We were seated upstairs but I think downstairs is more intimate if its a couple. Will definitely return!

Dined here last night a part of a party of 10. The food is just delish. The majority of people opted for the Early Bird Menu which is quite extensive & very reasonably priced at €20 for two courses. Even though my starter was quite disappointing (Bacon with a caramelized sauce) the main course more than made up for it. Everyone was more than satisfied with the food - presentation & portion sizes were excellent. The overall experience was impressive however, the only negative was the unbelievable heat in the restaurant. Granted it was a humid evening but even though we were beside the door, the air con was on & there were numerous fans (down the end of the restaurant) we were quite uncomfortable with the heat. I certainly would return to this restaurant just not on a hot/humid day.

Was here for brunch last Sunday and thought it was great. The brunch menu is really reasonably priced. To start we had fresh orange juice and lemonade which were gorgeous. I had the eggs benedict which were perfect and my boyfriends burger without a bun was delicious. The staff here are really friendly and eager to please. I'll definitely back for brunch and can't wait to try the tapas and dinner menus.

The food here is top class and beautifully presented. However...portions are tiny and I think it is slightly overpriced beacuse of this. Atmosphere is OK, although I found the decor a little clinical...A point to note, when there are 2 diners, perhaps 4 pieces of bread rather than 3 could be served!

Three of us ate here Thursday night and thoroughly enjoyed our food. Two of us ate the early bird for 20 euro, the portions were great and chicken and salmon very tasty. The mussels as starter were very tasty and also a huge portion. I had the tapas, the goat's cheese parcels were tasty and surprisingly filling, the squid and chilli risotto was gorgeous, and the rice parcels really interesting, it's great to be able to have tapas from different cuisines and countries in one meal. Everything tasted fresh and had imagination and the service was great, attentive but not over the top. As one of us had been there before and was recognized, we also got a free glass of wine each !

I eat here regularly as it's only up the road from my office. Food is consistently great as a group of us usually go for the E15 two course lunch special--try the wine & roasted garlic sausages or their salmon dishes. Have been to dinner only once, but can definitely state the same for it as it's great value for money (E20 for two courses) - food good, atomsphere is good, decor is simple but elegant, and staff are extremely professional and friendly. They also do tapas in the evening. Small bar area and seating downstairs would be perfect for a private function. Check out their website for more info.

Dinner for 2 at Seagrass last Friday night. I was very impressed with the level of service and food quality. I had the salmon which was cooked to perfection and the bread and better pudding for dessert was delicious. My other half had the beef and enjoyed it just as much as I did. The caraffe option for the wine was also a nice touch. Will definitely be back.

Was here last week in the evening. Had the crab duo to start which was delicious! And as I'm trying to watch my weight I choose a salad which had plenty of cheese which defeated the purpose of ordering it but was still yum. I gave in then and had a dessert - Bread and butter pudding which I shared and was really tasty, I was tempted to lick the plate.

Called in yesterday evening for early dinner. Had mini meatballs which were very mini. Around the table, soup as a starter was lukewarm at best, salad was greasy (if that's possible). Had heard good things but must say I am unconvinced. Will give it another chance to redeem itself in the near future.

Had a really nice meal here last weekend. We came in early on Sunday evening without a reservation, but the place was getting busy with a bit of a buzz. The menu is good, lots to choose from, incl tapas, early bird and a la carte. We had a mixture of 2 early birds and some tapas, for 3 people. The food was really good, quite rich, but v tasty, and the service was good. Its a really nice restaurant, bright and airy. Defo a great addition to this area...

Went here with friends for a quick lunch on one of their recommendations as she had really enjoyed the brunch here before. We did book in advance but there was no real need as it turned out. The staff were very pleasant, cannot fault the service at all, apart from forgetting one of our portions of chips, but this was soon rectified. As it was a quick lunch, we didn't have starters, just mains and chips. I had the mini meatballs which were lovely, good meat and very tasty tomato sauce. This came with a rocket dip (not the nicest, but I think its down to personal taste) and a small salad, so we were all glad we had ordered the extra chips. I have to say they were seasoned perfectly, we could not get enough of them! Although it was a brief visit, I'm excited to bring my boyfriend there for dinner soon, and check out the tapas menu too. The early bird deals seem very reasonably priced as well.

I hit this place after the most glowing review I have seen in ages from Paulio Touli in the Indo. We arrived for a Sunday brunch with a late booking and greeted by a lady who didn't hate us just because she had to work on a Sunday; a rarity in restaurants these days. As we were both a little worse for wear we both ordered the eggs Benedict and home fries plus two beers. The eggs were the best I have had in a long time. Perfectly cooked on a toasted bagel with crisp bacon on top, they were runny enough to use the fries as a mop. The room is not the best one on a hot day as you feel you are missing the sunshine but there are tables outside also even if the view is not spectacular. At EUR44 including one dessert and a coffee it was also a bargain. A very welcome addition to Portobello.

I just had a beautiful lunch there today. I loved the menu and I couldn't make up my mind what to go for so I opted for two starters; the vegetable antipasti, and the bacon, dill and sweet onion terrine. Both were fabulous in presentation and taste. I could actually taste each of the ingredients separately and I tried to slow down as much as I could so to retain the taste in my mouth. Even the sauces accompanying the dish were delicious. For dessert (yes I always leave space) I had the superb bread and butter pudding. If you are a B&B lover like me you must try it in this restaurant. It is heavenly, what a treat! I thought the overall meal was fantastic and the service was very professional. I will definitely go back to try the rest of the menu. I can't wait!

€20 for a 2 course early bird in town is definitely a bargain and there was a fairly good choice on that menu too. The other food is a little more steeply priced but sounds absolutely fantastic. I arrived way earlier than my friends and was treated too a tiny appetizer which definitely made me think that on my next trip I would be going for the tapas menu. I agree that there’s a lot of lamb and red meat on the menu (I went for mussels and salmon as had little other choice) but the service was great, the food tasted fantastic and at those prices you cant really go wrong.

Our brunch came to €40 for two people, which I thought was on the steep side. When we got in, we saw free tables by the window, but got seated in the back, around a corner, with no view. The menu had just changed, so what we had decided on online wasn't available, and they now had almost no vegetarian dishes. Our waitress was very friendly though, and even though our portions weren't very exciting after leaving out the meat, we decided to try desserts. The bread and butter pudding was a delight, the triple dark choc dessert beautiful. All in all, there are nicer places to spend a lot of money on food in.

I ate there on the bank holiday weekend, which in fairness is probably a bad time if you're looking for atmosphere, as the place was almost empty. I ordered a glass of Prosecco which arrived flat. This was duly changed when I pointed it out, but to be honest it wasn't the best Prosecco I've tasted anyway. We had soup to start which was one of the best soups I've had. It was really excellent. However we had hardly laid the spoon down when the dish was whisked away. My partner commented that he'd bet anything our eggs benedict had been sitting on the pass for the last 10 mins and hence the super fast service. I responded that this was probably a bit unfair and maybe the waitress was just a bit bored, as it was so quite. Unfortunately, my partner was right. The eggs Benedict arrived with correctly cooked eggs, but with bacon you could have stunned a fish with. The piece of bacon shattered across the table when I tried to get my fork into it and had obviously been sitting under the lights for at least 15 minutes. Eventually someone came to check on the meal and when I complained I was asked would I like some fresh bacon. My partner was not asked if his was ok, or if he would like any. The bacon arrived and was fine. This was just sloppy cooking and if the waiting staff were worth their salt it would never have left the pass. In the end, the eggs Benedict's were only very average. My partner then ordered a tiramisu which was fine. There are so many places in Dublin with average food at the same price as places with decent food, that I wouldn't be bothered going back. Certainly nothing makes Seagrass stand out from the crowd.

Myself and four colleagues arrived at 12.40 for lunch on a Friday. The restaurant was quite enough with only 8 other diners seated. We ordered various mains: Blackened chicken with honey & mustard, Risotto of mushroom, spinach & Gorgonzola x 2, Fillet of cod in egg batter and Fillet of salmon. Our drinks were brought to the table promptly along with a very tasty bread basket which we fell on as we were starving. And then we waited… We eventually got our orders at 1.20. We then had to wolf the food down to be back in work on time and didn’t have time for deserts or tea/coffees. I’d love to say the food was worth waiting for but it wasn’t. The best out of the 4 was the blackened chicken. The risotto was ok (not al dente), the salmon sounded very zesty & fresh (served with crunchy pepper, bean sprouts, mange tout & carrot salad with lime, soy & ginger dressing with rocket) but was lacking flavour, the fillet of cod was watery and soft which resulted in a soggy batter and the chips were tasteless (kept shaking salt over them to try and improve the flavour). The staff were very nice and it could be that they were just opened and had teething problems to sort out. I’ll give it another go in the future just not the immediate future.

Myself and a friend went there last week for lunch. I had the Mushroom Bruschetta which was really tasty and for mains we had the Baked Penne and the Risotto. Both were tasty, the Penne dish was really tomatoey and fresh and the Risotto might have been a little more al dente but was tasty. Espressos were good and strong and the staff were really nice and happy to be there. A nice, new addition to the restaurant scene. I'd like to try it out for dinner sometime.

Ate here a couple of nights ago with a friend. It was quite empty as we were dining early. Regardless the staff, service and food was excellent. We ordered off the tapas menu, the squid risotto was fantastic, as was the goat’s cheese and the mushrooms. Will definitely go again. Great value!

I was in here for lunch today and I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. The complimentary bread and dip were very nice, the market soup was delicious and the 'Bangers and Mash' were absolutely beautiful. The mash was whipped and reminded me of the whipped potato in Shanahans although not quite up to that standard! Extremely nice though and I would well recommend this restaurant for lunch

Decided to go back to Seagrass last night to celebrate Mothers Day and to try some Tapas,we shared the Seared spiced loin of tuna and Goats cheese parcel and Button mushroom & blue cheese hot pot. They were just simply gorgeous. I had fish of day which was salmon accompanied with a fish cake, really lovely presentation and very tasty. Husband had steak and home fried chips, which really were home made!! Shared bread and butter pudding and was too delicious! all washed down with a lovely bottle of Italian wine, can't remember name, but was no. 5 on the menu. For a new restaurant, well done!!! Will definitely be back soon for sure.

When I heard the people behind Il Posto had opened a new restaurant, I made a point of going. Like Il Posto, the staff and service are great. The food is also very reasonably priced. The food itself however was not great. The vegetarian antipasti with dips contravenes trade descriptions for a start. Bread and dips would be a far better way of describing what this actually is. I had the lamb shank as a main which looked a lot better than it tasted as the quality of lamb was rather poor. Perhaps I just made the wrong choices. All in all a little dissapointing though. A long way to go before they approach the food standards of their sister restaurant.

Had dinner here on Saturday night atmosphere very relaxed staff very friendly and helpful. we started with blackened ham and carpaccio of spiced beef both were perfect tantalisers for our main coarse of strip loin of beef and a shank of lamb both were excellent in presentation and delicious in taste, we shared a bottle of house red which washed down very well and finished with bread and butter pudding to die for and cappuccino. Overall Seagrass is a great place to eat we felt under no pressure to rush and totally enjoyed every aspect of dining experience, we shall certainly be back.

Oh my goodness - i am so excited about this new find! This restaurant just opened last week and 6 of us tried it for brunch today - the hardest thing was deciding what to have - honestly the menu is FANTASTIC - full irish breakfasts (2 of the lads had that), handmade burger with caramelised onions, melted cheese, mushrooms, tomoato, fried egg (thats what I had - delicious flavours), salmon and cod fishcakes that simply melted in the mouth (tasted husbands). It is so hard to find somewhere on Sunday to get a really great brunch and now there is somewhere to finaly go. I cant comment on the dinner menu yet but I will come back online to report when we have tried it in a few weeks time. I nearly forgot to add that they sell great fresh juices too.
