My partner and I visited FXB's last Sunday for a late dinner. We were welcomed and led to a table very promptly even without a reservation. The food was excellent, we both had steaks. My partner is very fussy about how his steak is cooked ( medium rare)and he was pleasantly surprised to find it was cooked to perfection. We didn't have starters as it was quite late but shared a desert. All rounded off with a very nicely priced Merlot. A good experience all round.

We visited Monkstown to eat in a nearby restaurant on a rainy sunday but finished up in FXBs as the other place had a queue. We were not disappointed with our second choice. We shared a substantial starter and had two mains for a very reasonable price. The service was warm and friendly if a little eccentric (they were playing Christmas carols in April!). Both our server and the manager came over to check that we were happy with our food. Haven't been there yet for dinner but would recommend it for lunch.

I love this FXB's. It's got a great buzzy atmosphere; the staff are lovely - really friendly; efficient and helpful in making suggestions. Recommend Thai beef salad; death by chocolate and great to be able to buy a really nice glass of wine. Great value - highly recommended.

This isn't so much a restaurant review as a personal tribute to my favourite meal. I spent a good deal of time in South Africa, and there I came across a dish called Eisbein, a local favourite for hungry lads in Cape Town. It is a dish of German/Dutch origin - a pickled ham hock, slow cooked until tender and then popped into a very hot oven to make the outside CRISPY! Delicious! FXB do the nearest thing to it that I have found on these shores: their Slow Roast Crispy hock of Pork, served with an apple and Calvados compote, red wine jus and spring onion mash. I have tried to get the skin of ham or pork hocks really crispy at home, to no avail. FXBs' version is Crispy, soft and tasty, and it is also huge - I invariably bring home enough in a 'doggie bag' for another full meal. This is unashamed mans food - no delicate towers of indeterminate ingredients, but honest, well-cooked food. And it costs less than 15 euro.Thank you FXB! Of course, the atmosphere, service and amenities are also great. But when I think of going there, I know what I have in mind. I can almost smell it! I'm drooling again! TP

We ate in the pub on St. Patrick's night, we should have realised it would be mad with the Rugby and the day that was in it, but we forgot. While the staff were rude and flustered, and did not do a good job, it was probably due to them being run off their feet all day and lots of drunk Rugby viewers. That said, the food was great and we all enjoyed it. I have also eaten here on other nights when if was not so busy, and have always enjoyed the food. And if you are just in for drink, their bread and dips platter cannot be beaten for taste and value. Will go back of course.

I have just come home from another great meal at FXB.We normally go to the bar downstairs first. This is always busy but you will always get a drink and a seat as the staff are on the ball. The propreitor and manager are always checking with their customers that everything is fine.I normally have a starter of seafood chowder or chicken wings. For mains is normally a steak and chicken for my wife. The food is always excellent. If you are looking for a restaurant that serves excellent,is value for money, great atmosphere and appreciates your custom, try it.

Popped in to FXB (The pub downstairs) for lunch on Saturday with my boyfriend. We didn't have too much time so we ordered main courses only. I ordered Sirloin steak medium/rare (I presumed I'd be safe to order it how I like it at FXB and that they'd cook it correctly). When the steak arrived, I cut into it and it was far more on the well done side, a lot of it was so overcooked that it was grey. I should have sent it back but I didn't want to have to wait for another steak while my boyfriend ate and then be sitting there eating while he finished and, like I said, we were on our way elsewhere so I didn't want to wait around the extra time, so I ate as much as I could and filled up on the chips. On the other hand, my boyfriends lamb shank was delicious and cooked perfectly. When the waitress arrived to take our plates away, she looked at my half eaten steak and asked if everything was okay. I hadn't planned on saying anything about it as I'd tried to eat it anyway, but she asked so I said I had to leave some as it was overcooked. She asked me why I didn't say anything and I said it's fine, not to worry about it, that I didn't want to wait the extra time for another steak. So she walked away tutting at me!! Then she came back with the bill and told me she would be charging me for the steak because I didn't say anything. I told her that was absolutely fine, I'm fully aware that when I eat something I need to pay for it! I wasn't looking for a free meal! I don't know if they get a lot of people in there trying to refuse to pay for food or something that would make her assume that's what I was after. All I did was answer a question she asked and she was so rude tutting at me and lecturing me. There is absolutely no way I would ever go back to this place.

I really like this pub restaurant. I live nearby so go quite often. The food is guaranteed to be good and they have a good wine list. If steak is your fancy, it will arrive, cooked exactly as you ordered it. The staff are friendly and helpful. It can get very busy at certain times in the evening but the the staff will do their best to accommodate you There is a bar area where you can have a drink if you have to wait for a table. For me, it's my local reliable and any friends who have come out my way for a visit, really enjoy it when we go there. It has a lovely buzzing atmosphere but it's also the type of place that you could go by yourself, with a newspaper, if you just wanted a nice dinner and didn't feel like cooking, particularly midweek. You wouldn't look odd on your own. Would highly recommend.

A group of 10 of us ate at FXBs Monkstown on New Years eve and I can't say enough about the fantastic service, value and food we received. I rang around several South Dublin restaurants that were charging extortionate prices for set menus for the night that was in it. FXBs on the other hand had a reasonable 3 course menu, including tea and coffee for €30. And it certainly wasn't a "value menu" like you often see, everyone had beautiful high quality food like prawn pil pil- 7 prawns! Not your usual 4, and perfectly cooked sirlion steaks, not to mention the beautiful deserts. The staff were so efficient and professional, from the point of booking. They remembered small details like putting our wine away to cool until we wanted it, helping us into our coats and numbering the table to save the usual faff trying to find who owns what food when it arrives to a large table. Thank you FXBs for such a brilliant evening with a group of friends who really value spending time together now that many of us are living away from home.

I found myself in Dun Laoghaire for work one Tuesday and my husband joined me for dinner. We decided to call to FXB having been in their city centre restaurants previously and we weren't disappointed here either. The food lived up to the usual standards. We had mains only - both fillet steak. They were cooked as ordered and the sides of chips were really tasty as were the accompanying mushroom and pepper sauces. Service was really friendly and even on a Tuesday evening this place was busy and atmospheric. If I find myself in the area again, I will most definitely be making another trip here.

So good, going here again on Friday. Always really enjoy my experiences in FXBs, generally eat on the ground floor, as i find it a bit more casual. The staff here have always been excellent, very attentive and sociable with customers which I like. The steaks are top class, and there ham hock is amazing, especially with the crispy crackling that goes with it. Place has a great atmosphere, and although it is always busy have always got a table within minutes and service never affected.

Ate upstairs last Thursday evening with my girlfriend. Excellent atmosphere and friendly service. The ethos is simple- good quality ingredients, done well, no fuss, just let them speak for themselves, this fit our mood perfectly on the night. Very generous portions too, starter was a chicken liver pate for me, soup for my other half, both very tasty. We both had steaks, mine medium rare, she medium well, cooked perfectly, extremely flavoursome and very tender, beautiful. A rare occasion indeed when I don't go for dessert as I was completely satisfied and full, just an espresso and then downstairs for a pint in the pub. 2 courses each, both mains steak, an espresso and a very good malbec came in at €75, well worth it, will definitely return.

I went to FXBs with my family one night. We went and sat in the upstairs area of the restaurant. It was quiet and a great place to chat. The service was great and the staff were very friendly. The food was lovely I had the beef and guinness stew which tasted much better than I expected and it was very filling and fairly priced. It was a great experience and I would go back there again.

I went here for lunch with a work colleague for the first time. I was pleasantly surprised at the room, warm and casual, achieving a cross between a pub and restaurant "feel". I was attended to immediately, and found the service throughout to be excellent. I chose from their "Grazing" menu; spiced beef on brown bread with a tomato relish and side salad. It was all very tasty. The beef was lean and flavourful, and the salad had lots of nits bits in it, like carrots and seeds. The value was quite good, and the portions generous. I would definitely recommened this eatery.

We visited on Paddy's day and had a really nice meal. It's caual, being a pub setting, but there's nothing casual about the food. The menu has been expanded recently too so they now have a fillet steak if you want it although there's no need to spend that much when they have some great other meals. I'd recomend the Beef curry and also the pork hoc. The porc is a bit of work but really worth it. We also went on Valentines Day and got a seat without booking which was very lucky for me.

walked in on saturday night looking for a table in the pub for casual food and a drink.we had to wait about 40 minutes for a table it was so busy. we arrived after 7pm which maybe is a busy time for them. the manager and the staff were very accommodating to my mother who cant sit on the high stools at bar. they eventually got us a table after long wait as it was so busy. we asked if it was possible to book a table and they dont take bookings for the pub.we ate cod and chips with mushy peas x2 @ €16.00 and we each had a drink. not a very large menu i thought as i would have liked another choice of fish bar salmon.but the fish was so fresh it was delicious. my mum had skinny chips and i had thick with skins still on. all good. i had a tea after and the bill came to about €36.i think if returning i would come earlier on a saturday night. but the staff were great we had very attentive waitress who asked us how our meal was. really good place just for a drink also with great atmosphere.

We usually eat here every few months and were not disappointed on our most recent visit. If you like a good steak, look no further! Nice restaurant upstairs for special occasions or relaxed pub atmosphere for a casual meal and drink. Good friendly service and reasonably priced for a great meal. Will definately be returning in the near future!

We had a dinner for three during the week. Restaurant was not busy, but anyway the athmosfere was nice and cozy. If you are into steaks - this is the place to go. The choice is good and the quality is amaising. Deserts are also incredible. Serving stuff is friendly and took good care of us. Overall we had good value for the money spent. I would definitely go there again and recommend to a friend.

4 of us spent an excellent evening here. We arrived at 7pm and put our name down for a table which became available about 20 minutes later. By 8pm the place was buzzing. I had one of the specials: pork and leek sausages, black pudding mash with fried onions rings for €13.50. Delicious and great value. Lots of choice on the wine list, especially if you just want a glass. We had a bottle of Domaine de Bisconte for €21.25 – great wine and reasonably priced. Good food, good wine, great atmosphere and excellent service made for a very enjoyable evening.

Decided on the spur of the moment to call in for a bite to eat as we'd been here before a few times and food was always great. Alas I was never so disappointed with a dish in a long time. We had bread with dips for starters which was delicious. I ordered the grilled lemon sole which was really a let down. It certainly didn't appear to be grilled, more like steamed. It was swimming in some kind of butter (i think) which found it's way onto my mashed spring onion potatoes. There was an unbelievely bad taste off the fish which I genuinely thought was "off". My other half convinced me that the taste was just the salsa verde that was sitting on top of the fish. I actually couldn't eat it and I love fish. We ended up swapping meals and although his Thai Beef Salad was tasty, my experience had unfortunately been ruined. It won't stop me going back though, as I said, I've eaten here before and was always pleased. I'll put this down to either me or the fish having an "off" day.

I really love food. I love to eat good food in place with a good atmostphere, good service and if I can get that at good value then I've had a really great night out. At FXBs Pub & Restaurant Monkstown, Co. Dublin I found everything I wanted and more. A group of friends met in the Pub to celebrate Christmas and say good bye to friends who were departing for greener pastures. We had no booking. The manager was very attentive and observant. As our group grew in size and became dispersed with some people sitting and some standing it was obvious he was aware and concerned. Without our requesting it, two large tables were brought together for us and we were all delighted to be seated together. The food was fantastic, the atmostphere was fun & lively, the wine was wonderful, the service of bar and floor staff was attentive and friendly service throughout the night. And as for value-that was the best part, it made a good night great. Not only do I love my food, but I now love FXB's The Pub.

Went as a work thing. Would not go normally as a general meal night out. Staff were lovely and really enthusiastic even serving a big group. The place was rigged out with moving ships for Halloween which was a cool touch. Steak as always was the best. No mistakes on the order which is plus. Weren't ushered out by the staff either when we stayed a lil too long.

Went here with two friends mid week for dinner. There seemed to be a few office dos on that evening so it was a little loud in the pub. We were seated beside such a party who were a bit rowdy but it wasn't a problem. However, the waitress came over unbidden and asked us would be like to move, which was quite impressive. The food was gorgeous, two of us went for the value meal, which is where you get a main meal and a glass of designated wine. I had the hake and a glass of white and my friend had venison with a glass of merlot. All the sauces can be made gluten free, which we discovered and the service is ultra friendly. I really cannot fault this place - hadn't been here for years but will be returning soon.

I ate here on Friday at lunchtime with my folks. We've eaten here a few times before so knew that we'd be well fed. We all had starters which were all good. Mum had home made chicken soup which was full of chicken pieces and came with delicious bread. I had breaded mushrooms, nice but nothing to write home about and Dad had the chicken wings, again nice, huge portion but nothing special, a dip would have been nice. Mum and I had the battered cod and chips which was very tasty but one piece of cod would have been enough to share, they were huge! the chips were very good. Dad had a pot roast beef which was beautifully tender and he enjoyed. We just about squeezed in desserts, one trifle (very boozy) and 2 scoops of very very creamy homemade icecream (strawberry was a bit tasteless). A very good feed with great service that won't break the bank! Great place for a casual meal, the specials are always worth considering too.

Met for drinks here last week and ate off the grazing menu in the bar. This works very well if you what to do exactly that, have a few drinks and eat something also . Had a plate of pate which was perfect and some prawns pil-pil which were average and not fresh. One of the lads ordered a steak, cooked medium rare, which I tasted and was terrific, perfectly cooked and seasoned. Too late to change at that stage. Service wise it can be fine but sometimes too attentive, glass of water was automatically provided in place of one of the groups empty wine glass, nice touch. Intend to drop back for one of those steaks.

Normally when I think FXB, I think it should be for an occasion but stepped in last night into the pub section and had a lovely meal. We ate the salmon salad and the open seafood sandwich and they were both really good! The service was quick, the food good and because it was the pub section, it was not as expensive either- all good! :) I'd highly recommend stopping here for a bite!

Normally go here for any special occasion, birthdays etc. Food is always top class as is the service. You really aren't getting the best of FXB unless you have a steak they cut like butter and have a great flavor. Also love the ever changing art on the walls.

Went last night with my boyfriend, an extravagance for a Monday but sure ! We decided on a drink first and the bar was busy for a Monday. The barman was cranky which I was disappointed with as there is no need. We were going to sit upstairs for the early bird but it was a bit formal so the resturant manager said it was fine to have the early bird downstairs and followed us down with the menu. Staff (exception of the bar man) were all extremelty helpful at one point we had 3 staff bringing things to the table ! I had ceasear salad which was really good, if a bit much and my boyfriend had breaded mushroom which looked a bit old but tasted nice. He has steak and was very pleased with it being cooked as ordered and tasting excellent. I had gone off the early bird menu for another special the lamb shank - it was a lovely flavour and with mash, vegatables and red wine jus - only downside was that it was a little overdone in that the outside of it was a little had - a little disapponitin but flavour made up for it. We had a very nice wine and all in all an enjoyable evening which would have us coming back.

went here with my girlfriend, love the bar, its pictures and the actual bar itself is fantastic.. the food isnt great, had the chowder to start, the only fish i could recognise was salmon, which seemed to have been cooked separately, and very small pieces of white fish, which i couldnt tell was..gf had lamb shank with mash..the mash had no life in it, mircrowaved perhaps? not sure, the lamb was very underseasoned.. wouldnt have minded too much but the meal was very expensive for what it was..i had medallions of beef which were good..didnt have dessert, a manager passed us by as we were leaving but declined to say thanks, good bye or good luck! i hate that, ive just spent money in the establishment..won't again though.

Went out for a lovely meal on saturday - not having booked. Great buzz and the staff were all so efficient and on the ball. looked after us so well. The food was only delicious would def rate the steak as best ever. We had a lovely argentinian wine....... velvety and so smooth. Well done on such a great selection. Keep it up and plenty of parties in the restaurant upstairs and the bar was only hopping with many eating pub grub also.

I had dinner in the downstairs part of the restaurant on a Wednesday and the place was packed. The atmosphere was nice, and more restaurant than 'pub'. I had the Sirloin Steak with Pepper Sauce and it was delicious and perfectly cooked. The sauce might have done with being a little thicker (more to my taste) but it was very nice. I also tried a beer special which I don't remember the name of but which had a "hint of banana" and it was surpringly nice. The service was excellent throughout.

Service was good polite attentive staff who kept a good eye on how we were getting on. The pints were very good, cold fizzy and arrived promptly everytime. The wine was a muga reserva which I've had loads of times and was keenly priced at€27. Now the food, prawns to start which was average, the bread was horrible a real let down, maybe they ran out and picked it up in the spar. The filet was ok for the money with a baked patato which was yum. The Mrs had the medalions of fillet which she found very nice as she hates any blood etc but equally hates her steak over done. I skiped the desert as I was stuffed(with pints!!!)but everyone else said it was nice. Price was very reasonable considering , it worked out at 50 a head Inc the tip. For some reason I had very high expectations about the place, it's good but lacking something, That was my first time in the place and I would go back, but not running. If your looking for a bit of value fxb's is a winner.

Just back from another great night at "the pub" and it continues to impress. The service, atmosphere and the food are all top notch. would recommend all pub/restaurant owners come and watch how this place is run to perfection. Two 8oz fillets chips, sauce, veg and two pints for 55 euro!!! Perfection

We were there last night. Initially we were put on a table in the middle of the restaurant, quite near the door, but after requesting to move, we were given a more intimate table in the corner. The staff were very friendly, the food excellent and the atmosphere quite unbelieveable - another table occupying about 30 men, brought an "Elvis" like singer and he sang a few songs - initially I thought "Oh No" however he was excellent and the entire restaurant joined in !! He only stayed for about 30 minutes and it seems that the restaurant were very obliging to let this happen. Anyhow, I was there with my wife and I wanted the best steak in Dublin and I got it !! Fillet 10oz for €25. If you are in a party of 2, be sure to book a table by a wall or in a corner, as the middle of the room is somewhat of a thoroughfare. You will enjoy the food and the atmosphere !

Great location, great buzz, great food, great name for a pub ("The Pub"). If you're into people watching there's normally a few TV/sporty folk in there. If that doesn't float your boat then the food wine and the extensive art on the walls most certainly should

We ate in the bar, and the atmosphere was brilliant. Waiters were very attentive and did an excellent job of organising a table for is promptly despite the crowds. Food from tapas menu was great value: recommend the mozzarella and tomato salad for only e4.50! Mains were only average. Lemon sole was a little on the small side, salmon salad while beautifully presented was slightly undercooked and oily. Berry crumble was awesome! Will go back, but will spend a little more time considering what I order.

I love the art work for sale around the place, it makes the bar and amusing place to eat. I try to get to monkstown everytime I am in Dublin. oh yeah...creamed spinach! Yum.

Everytime we are going to this nice place we are really happy to made that decision. The food will never let you down as well as the service. Even if we just went there for a pint, at the end we had some of the very nice pub grub they are offering. So we are looking forwardfor the next visit.

SUBLIME, DELICIOUS FOOD; THIS PLACE WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN. i went to FXBs with my parents, boyfriend, sister and her fiance on sunday before heading across to hear the Messiah being performed in Monkstown Church. It is one of the best restaurants i've eaten in. fantastic value for money. And they sure know how to cook their steaks. I will go back there again and again.

The food downstairs is by and large always very good. FXBs is pleasant to come into in both winter and summer. Have eaten in the pub many times with satisfaction. There is a good choice of main courses. At our last visit I went for a venison pie with mashed potato which was nice. The meat was good quality but I thought it all could have been presented a little better as it was obvious it had been reheated - but however it was acceptable for pub food. The hock of pork is a veritable tasty feast as well probably calorific! Will return again.

We booked an early bird meal and when we arrived the restaurant was empty. I usually hate this but we were still able to get the atmosphere from the pub below. The restaurant soon filled up and we enjoyed our meal. We all had Caesar Salad to start, which was nice. The steaks were lovely (but €3 extra). The hock of pork was, of course, mainly bone, but the meat on it was reported to be very tasty. Side orders of fries and baked potato were very good as was the Crumble for dessert (not included in the Early Bird). The house Malbec was good at €4.85 a glass. I will definitely be back and might try downstairs in the pub next time.

The Pub downstairs is a great afternoon beer & food spot. Nice beers on tap. The grazing menu is spot on, nibble through chicken wings, tiger prawns & pate. Football on one screen, Rugby on the other, no sound on either so they are quite unintrusive. The service is attentive and friendly. Because it is a pub and not a restaurant people tend to settle in and stay longer. Not feeling they have to leave because they are no longer eating. I have enjoyed slow afternoons here with my girlfiend and the paper, and also with the lads watching football. The Pub works for both occasions. Highly recommended, just dont sit in my booth facing the TV!

My friend and I dropped into FXBs for a meal - last minute decision. The restaurant was very full but we were accommodated immediately at a nice table at the back of the restaurant. My fish pie was yummy. We were initially upset - and then very impressed when my friend, who had ordered a well-done steak but received it medium/rare, was promptly attended to by management - without having any complaint from us - the error was spotted by them. My friend was given a complete new meal - very quickly - steak cooked to perfection - with abject apologies for the error - we were told they pride themselves on their steaks and pleasing the customer. We will definitely be back. Well done!

I eat in the pub part regularly and find the food is consistantly great. The armosphere is quite good and the staff are very friendly. I would usually go for the steak as its best steak i've had but the hock of pork is also a good choice. Home fries are tasty and the price isn't to bad either. I'm sure i will be coming back for some time.

We've been meaning to eat in Monkstown for a while - lots of places along that one street. We went on spec during this Indian summer on a lovely Sept Sat evening. We decided to go for the FXB Pub, which has a pretty good pubfood menu, and given its butcher connections is heavy on steaks. First thing to say is that the pub inside is much more impressive than you can tell from outside - modern with art for sale on the walls. c 7.00pm we were able to get a table for 2 right away. Atmosphere is very Southside Dublin, with mums, dads, older kids all having steak dinners, roysh... We went for basic food with 1 starter of chicken wings to share - came in a sticky sweetish sauce. This was more than adequate as a starter for 2 people, and the wings were tasty if a bit too sweet for my taste. They came with a salad garnish, which was terrific - novel touches of beansprouts etc, and perfectly dressed (very unusual in Dublin, especially in a pub). We could both have eaten more of the garnish. For mains, my companion had lamb shank, and I just had to have "hock of pork", with crispy skin etc (this seems to be the porcine version of lamb shank). Both were served on a bed of champ (or "spring onion mash" if you must...). The lamb was great, and the pork looked daunting with loads of crispy skin and big bones. Lots of succulent pork meat too, but inevitably ended up a bit of a mess. As one raised on champ, this was just adequate, needing more poaching of the scallions in milk, I think. We had a bottle of cheap Rioja, which was just alright. Total bill was under €60. Service was very attentive, and delivered with an unpubbish flourish. We'll come back to Monkstown - well worth the trip.

I came here with a party of 6 friends to celebrate a birthday. Table was booked for 8pm & when we arrived there werre only 2 other tables filled but this didn't bother us as it's probably a sign of the times. Our server was great, tended to our every need (even the fussy eater among us). We all had starters from the mushrooms, soup, pate etc. The main couse took a bit of time to come out as 4 of my party ordered steaks, while the other 3 ordered chicken (including me). Everyone ate everything on their plates & commented it was the best steak some of them ever ate. My chicken was succulent & came away so easily. The mash was really nice as well as the veg. Everything was really tasty with no complaints from anyone. We ordered 3 bottles of wine & some beer for the table & finished off with tea & coffee. We were expecting a big bill but with 7 people having starters, mains (no dessert) but everything else, it came to less than €400, averaging out at €50 per person. It's a great place, food is amazing & you can even buy some paintings if you're flash with the cash. I WILL BE BACK HERE!

Ate here tonight with my boyf. He had the brie in filo to start and the 8oz fillet for mains. I had the breaded mushrooms and the baked goats cheese. Both starters were good but brie was better of the two. He said steak was the best ever, melt in the mouth stuff which is what FXBs is all about! Mains both came with serving of potatoes, we both chose chips which were yum. By the way, average age of customer was 80 but it doesnt bother me, still lovely atmosphere! Deffo be back here. 2 starters, 2 mains, bottle of vino €85

Went here on a Sunday evening as we were just back from a weekend away, and far to hungry to go to the supermarket and then cook! We ate in the pub part downstairs. We shared a starter of chicken wings. The portion was very generous and they were delicious, the barbeque sauce was really yummy and they also came with a blue cheese dip. My husband had a steak with lovely homemade chips. I had the lemon sole with spring onion mash. The portion was very generous. We didn't have dessert. Overall, very nice. But I think the prices are a little high so could do with coming down a little.

Went here with the gf for a meal in the pub section downstairs. As per usual, we were not let down by this excellent restaurant. We shared the brie in filo pastry to start which, to be fair, wasnt great. But FXB's is all about the beef and our steaks were cooked to perfection. Both were served with just the right amount of sauce, and the accompanying home-fries were delicious. I prefer the downstairs section as it is very handy to just walk in, have a pint and a steak and then hop off. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was vibrant. Perfect for a casual meal with friends or sig. other but maybe not ideal for a date in a blossoming relationship!

A friend of mine brought me here for my birthday on sunday... i have to say it was very enjoyable.. i had the carrot and sweet potato soup for starter an followed on with the salmonn.. personally i woulda liken a little bit more of the sauce, but i think thats cause it was so good... my friend had the breaded mushrooms... which personaly im not a fan of but i tried them anyway an they were surprisingly nice.. not as greasy an slimy as ya would expect... then he followed with steak mash an peppered sauce... the mash in my opinion was overpowered with onion... i think the concept was nice but they took it a step too far... when it came to desert i was just too full so we opted out of it... it is a place i definatley will visit again soon an i have a fair idea of what i want to order already!

Have now been here twice and both times it was delicious. Last wednesday i visited here with my girlfriend and my brother and his girlfriend. All four of us really enjoyed our meals. To start, us two lads had soup and the two ladies had garlic mushrooms. All of us really enjoyed the starters. (Although my potato and apple soup had no flavour of apple in it) but was still very tasty, the bread which accompanies it is also delicious. For mains we all had steak. Three fillets and one Sirloin. All were cooked perfectly (one of us was a little awkward and asked for it between medium rare and medium and it came out exactly how he wished which shows a skilled chef) Both us lads opted to add two Oz's to our fillets as we wanted 10 Oz instead of 8 Oz. Think it was €3.20 extra per Oz but it was worth it. I had pepper sauce with my steak as did my girlfriend which was quite peppery, how I like it. The other two got a red wine Jus which to be honest was more of a reduced tomato sauce which they didnt like. We shared sauces which were barely needed as the steaks were lovely and moist. One complaint is the mash potato. Didn't like the mash potato, but we all really enjoyed our meals and will definately be back.

Top quality delicious food, though it is quite expensive for what really isn't a restaurant (more of a bar-bistro?). Pity there is zero variation on the menu, but I guess if it isn't broken don't fix it! Always busy, and so you can be waiting a long time for tables and orders, especially for large parties. More than once we've been here and orders have been wrong (could be their computerised system), though they are quick with drink orders!

We were treated to lunch here yesterday. Our host was called away urgently as we entered the restaurant, but had time for a kish lorraine which, on request, was served IMMEDIATELY! I had shank of lamb and my wife had seafood. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and also our desserts. Most certainly we will call again.

Best restaurant I have dined in in ages. Sea bass salad to start and sirlion steak for mains both cooked to perfection. My steak was served with the best fries I have ever tasted. Great wine selection by the glass. The staff were charming, atmosphere buzzing and decor chic. Then it was downstairs to the pub to finish off a perfect night. Will be back again.

If you like quality steak, the restaurant upstairs in FXB's is hard to beat. I've been there 3-4 times and never been disappointed. The fillet steak is always of the highest quality, and the chef certainly understands that "rare" means "rare." If you need a sauce to compliment the steak, I'd recommend the wild mushroom sauce, which is really tasty, but to be honest it's really gilding the lily because the meat speaks for itself. Food presentation deserves full marks, and the steak comes with a choice of 4 different types of potato, all of which are fabulous, as is the seasonal vegetable dish. The staff are very pleasant and efficient, even when teh restaurant is packed, and the wine list is comprehensive and reasonably priced. I'd definitely recommend FXB's for any type of dinner party, from romantic couple to family celebration.

Having been out to a late 'brunch' earlier in the day my husband and I were not hungry enough to eat a full meal. The Pub area was full so we went upstairs to the restuarant, where staff we happy enough to oblige us when we ordered 2 starters each. One of us had the Brie and the other the goats cheese, whilst we both had the tiger prawns next. Which were delicious and not rubbery as they can be sometimes. Next for desert, I had the Ice Cream on the pretence of butterscotch sauce, the ice cream was very rich and creamy, unfortunately the butterscotch sauce tasted burnt... Husband had 'Death by Chocolate' which he thoroughly enjoyed, so not all bad. It is pricey, but that was expected, but overall the quality of the food & service makes it almost justifable

We had booked a table in the restaurant but were told on arrival that we'd been moved downstairs to 'the Pub'. If a restaurant is going to do this, it should at least try to give some advance notice. There was also a bit of messing in honouring the lower price of the group menu (which was presumably offered as a number of the choices offered originally were removed). The food was delicious (although it's a bit disconcerting to eat steak with a large brightly coloured picture of a cow staring down at you) and the price reasonable enough. Drinks prices were hefty and service was adequate.

My boyfriend and I recently went for dinner here mid-week. I had eaten here a good few years ago so was curious to see if it was as good as I remembered; it was. The restaurant area is small but cosy but tables are not too close giving privacy. The service was outstanding and so were our steaks. Its not cheap but averagely priced. We ahd a lovely evening and would recommend it.

I have been here before a couple of times and liked it. Hop in downstairs for a drink and then wander upstairs to get fed. (Have had the daytime Tapas as well....Irish Tapas?? mmmm. Ok!). Lovely friendly welcome and our waitress (pretended to!!??) remember me. Well, I am unforgetable!! And for all the right reasons I hasten to add! A good welcome sets you up nicely. I like this restaurants athmosphere....white linen, clean lines, nice paintings. Yep....feels right. Try and avoid the tables near the kitchen/cash up area....far too busy. Service was prompt and the food arrived in just the right time. However, it was a bit of hit and miss. My GF had the Salmon and we both found it to be too dry...and this is not the most difficult of fish to get right. Dry fish? Yuk. I stuck with the beef which was very good. After all this is FXB and if their speciality beef was wrong then they may as well throw in the hat.

I always rave about this place and brought some friends here to show them how good it was. None of us were disappointed, food and service is second to none. Will always go back to FXBs for pub grub, the best in the land!!

We were a party of 4 on a Saturday night and were allocated a lovely table upstairs. It was great to see that there is lots of space between the tables so you don't feel cramped and can hold a normal conversation in privacy. This is simply a great place to eat as a previous reviewer commented. The staff were attentive, chatty and good humoured. I hope to return.

Dined there yesterday. Ordered chicken. It arrived with a "small blood clot" and had to be returned. I didn't fancy the chicken dish so I then requested the steak as a replacement.Couldn't fault the steak, nor the service. Will return.

Great place to eat. Probably one of the nicest steaks I've ever had. The service was great. Always attentive but never intrusive. Restaurant would be perfect for a couple or friends or any type of party. Highly recommended. The food, from starter to desert was gorgeous and the waiting staff were pleasant from start to finish

This is a lovely restaurant with friendly staff and steak to die for. I had the fillet with a scallion mash and it was absolutely epic. I'm only giving two stars for value as there's an early bird menu advertised on their website between 6 - 7.15 and it was no where to be seen – that was quite misleading and disappointing. Otherwise highly recommended.

When I entered I was shocked to see a restaurant so busy on a Monday night, so my expectations were high. And this place did not disappoint. We sat at a lovely table by the balcony, overlooking the bar below. We decided to stick with the house wine, red, a rioja, excellent quality and only €18! I had the thai seabass to start, and the sirloin as main.Thoroughly enjoyed both. As did my wife with her brie, and tiger prawns. The food was delicious, and our young waiter was very friendly, yet professional. With great food, service, and at a fair price, what more could you want. Will definatly be back.

Went with a large group to the 'Pub' part of FXB's for an evening meal. I have eaten here several times over the last few years and have always thought it was good value and tasty. I obviously haven't been here for a while because when I used to go, I got the steak which was served with chips/potato, onions and mushrooms and sauce of choice. This time, despite the fact the price was the same I remember it to be (approx €17.95), no matter how hard I looked at the menu, there was no mention of the mushrooms and onions. This really annoys me, as I would prefer a restaurant to put their prices up rather than pretending to be good value. To buy sides of mushrooms and onions would be another approx €8 which for a pub is very pricey. Also got prawns pil pil to start for about €8 of which I got 4, only I was in a large group and not paying I would have said soemthing, but I sure won't be in a rush to go back.

I decided to edit my original posting following a call from the owner of FXBs in relation to my first review. It was nice to see a man passionate about his business. So on 2 of the items on which I commented I am now able to say I was possibly misinformed. 1 the Chianti I bought in the cafe was a takeaway and although also named Chianti Classico (might) have been a different brand. Not sure so I will withdraw this comment. Also despite original comments from my colleagues that they didnt receive potatoes, they have since informed me that on reflection they might have!!So again I withdraw my comment about the value of the steak. Despite a full conversation about the lamb shank I still stand over my disappointment with the dish and the sea bass I ordered as a starter. (edited review follows) Myself and 2 friends went to FXB Monkstown, just as we had one year ago to celebrate one of our birthdays. Unlike the first visit, this was disappointing. I started with the sea bass. Tiny, tasteless and on a bed of soft(over ripe) tomatoes. The ladies stayed safe with Brie. Fine. For main I had the Lamb shank. I asked for it well done. "We serve it tender" - said the waitress - obviously unaware of the "customer is always right" theory. So despite my request it was served fatty, soggy and swimming in (what I felt was)a crude gravy. I grant you, the meat was very succulent. Both ladies had fillet steaks, which at €29 included a side of potatoes. This was rounded off with a truly awful cup of Double expresso which was like the left over from a starbucks slop tray!!! €85 per head!!! Service wise there was one guy who was effcicient but the rest looked very stressed tending to the 10 tables in this tiny restaurant one of which was a large party. In my original review I said I wouldnt go back - Following my conversation with the owner and the previous visits to FXB (which were good) I may consider the restaurant again in a few months to prove if this was a blip.

Had lunch here during a rainstorm recently. Only went in for a main course, but stayed for the full 3 courses. Fanatstic food, good wine list, and prompt service. For a pub, it's also clean and friendly. Don't expect the usual pub fare. Do have the homemade brown bread ice cream. Full marks for value.

I decided to eat here with my family as my son loves steak and was flying out to Canada on a J1 visa the following day. We read the reviews and decided to book. All I can say is WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING. All steaks ordered were fillets. All steaks were tasteless and three were ordered medium rare but were cooked well done. One was returned and its replacement was also cooked well done. I took the time to write to the restaurant with regard to our disappointment but they didn't bother to take the time to reply.

Visited the Pub at FXB last night Wednesday 2nd July: Excellent service. My wife had mainly salads - croutons not very good. I had prawns pil pil for starter which were quite rubbery and much overcooked - poor value at €8. I had a sirloin steak for the main dish which was excellent. Very good wines but they are a bit pricey. Steak pricing for an 8 ounce at this quality is a steal. There is room for improvement although overall it is very good.

FXB is perfect for lunch. Lots of choice on the menu and not your run of the mill choices either. I had the open chicken sandwich which was gorgeous. The chicken was of great quality. The sandwich came with a salad aswell, the sauce of which was lovely. The prices were reasonable aswell.

Casual food in the Pub section is great. From the Pub menu, my wife had the prawns, I had the steak. Both excellent and good value at around €17 each. The service was excellent, the wine list is comprehensive and fairly priced. Will be back soon.

Met the girlies for lunch here over Christmas and I had been dying to try an FXB’s. I had the Soup of the Day, carrot and coriander to warm me up followed by the Tiger Prawns. YUM! The atmosphere was great for a Friday afternoon. I’m really looking forward to going back at night and trying the upstairs. Only small thing is the Prawns could have been spicer for me:)

This was one of the best meals out that I have had in a long time. The seafood chowder starter was excellent & extremely good value. I ordered the medallions of beef for a main course. The waitress told me that this would only be 6ozs.of meat but that if I really wanted it she would ask for extra to be put on my plate - at no extra cost!! We were treated so well we wondered if we had been mistaken for food critics! All in all we could find no fault with this restaurant & would recommend it to anyone. We will be back!

We have frequented FXB's on numerous occasions and have enjoyed the tapas and steak in the bar downstairs and have enjoyed until I asked for my steak to be coked medium/well done, it came out very pink and I complained. My friend who was with me ordered for his steak to be medium cooked, his came out rare. The waiter came out and told me the chef said that next time I ordered the steak, I should ask for it be cooked well done and the chef "wasn’t being smart"... what has happened to the customer service, and to me, medium to well has a bit of pink in it and this was definitely it was done medium. This has put me off going to the bar downstairs, when every other time previous to this, I had asked for medium to well done and it was perfect. The place upstairs is expensive compared to the quality of food and steak.

We did enjoy our meal here as expected. The staff were friendly and efficiant. I had a crab spring roll for starter and thought it was lovely. Our steak main course was cooked perfectly and a reasonably priced bottle of wine made for a very pleasant evening.

A pub with this standard of food!!! What a place. We go there a lot and love it on Saturday afternoons. A couple of beers and then upstairs before it gets too busy The steaks are as good as you'd expect from the Buckley beef empire but the last few times we ate here I had the fish special which was top notch. Wines are good and varied and we discovered an Italian wine called Twiggy, which the guys told us we could buy next door! The pub grub is also excellent and we've had some great times here. The staff are always smiling and are really helpful. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I had a great meal in FXB's "Pub" in Monkstown last week. They do a great steak and onions, the staff are very friendly and it was great for an informal meal with a friend. But the best part of the meal was brown bread ice-cream and butterscotch sauce! It really brought me back to my childhood.

On my travels through this glorious country the restaurant that stood out was FXB's in a cute little town call Monkstown. To start I ordered Brie cheese, which was only delightful to the taste buds, I had no had no idea what was about to come! Although the main course took longer than I would have liked the manageress was very accommodating. Great young lady. If your looking for a great steak this is the place you want to visit. It was cooked just perfect and the sautéed mushrooms made me wet myself. Great staff, great food & great location! Overall it’s a must.

Wonderful restaurant/pub. The service is always excellent here, and the menu is unfussy yet varied. Food is well presented and usually faultless, though they have been known to slightly over cook my steak on occasion. I have dined both in the upstairs restaurant and in the bar beneath, and I would heartily recommend both.

Was brought to FXB's for my birthday, we had a fantastic evening!! Steak was really good & house white was great too!! I was surprised by the lovely waitress with a birthday cake & she sang "Happy Birthday" to me. The cake was small enough for two & they made it for me & they did not charge us for it. We have been many times since & just love it. It is now a top favorite for me.

We stopped off in Monkstown for a coffee last Sunday afternoon and stumbled on the revamped F.X.B. The atmosphere was so relaxing that we stayed for dinner. I ordered the prawns and my friend the steak; both came with chips and extra bits. Everything on both plates was excellent. If this is the pub food I can’t wait to go back and sample the restaurant. The staff were all very friendly and efficient. Best of all was the bill, including a great bottle of house wine and two coffees we got out for 56 euro. Dublin has been waiting for this perfect pub.

Have to say that this is one of the best places I have had a steak in for a long time!! We arrived there on a Saturday night about 8pm to find the downstairs packed but were quickly pointed to a table that other customers were vacating. We all went for the 8oz sirloin and despite the how busy the place was we found the service very prompt and efficient. Both the floor and bar staff were excellent in service and remembered the round all night. Watch out for the moving pictures though!! The owner seems to be a little eccentric and has a picture rigged to move on it's own!! Nearly scared me to death.

Great food, so reliable, a banker. This place has a traditional menu, steaks, seafood, pork, chicken, lots of choice and delivers it all with great service. We always take visitors here because it is so reliable. The steaks are great - in fact I never really order a steak anywhere else. But the chicken and veggie options are always really good too. Book ahead to get a table on the weekend - there's a reason they're busy....

Have always had top quality meals here. The steaks are second to none and the vegetable selection is great. I always order too much for the main course because everything is so great so have never got to the dessert part! I have never had anything other than steak when in FXB's but if the rest of the menu is anything like their steak you cannot go wrong.

Had a great time in this place recently. Arrived with friends for drinks in the pub, barman remembered our round all night all we had to do was nod and drinks would arrive - fantastic. went upstairs for dinner, great steaks had juicy big t-bones and onion rings all round, great service all night from the really friendly staff, but be very careful of the moving pictures after a few drinks you begin to think you're going mad. Went back downstairs to the pub and same round arrived again, you can eat downstairs as well for a more casual dinner - top class.

This bar/pub is an excellent place for an evening out, we like to eat downstairs, the food the service and the buzz is great... the steak's are to die for as they are always cooked perfect. The salads are well presented and the dressing is very taste.... this is a great place for a drink with friends...and more often than not you'll end up having something to eat...the smell of food from the other tables always gets us...the menu downstairs is very small...but if you fancy a bigger selection you could always go upstairs..........

Myself and my wife were (un)lucky enough to get a cancelled table for 2 at 8pm this evening. The restaurant was full and the table was ours provided we could vacate by 9pm - fine by us. She had the Goats Cheese starter (€8.95), which was ok. I started with the crab (€7.50), which was quite good. Both of us love steaks and would frequent FXB's on Pembroke Street regularly. She ordered the Medallions (€21.50) while I requested the 10 oz. Fillet - both medium well (i.e. no pink). What arrived was disgraceful - my fillet was akin to a piece of scrap meat which was also totally overdone & looked dry as a bone - I say 'looked' because I didn't eat any of it and only cut into it to see how it was cooked. Sent it back as waitress was bringing out the veg. She apologised and returned to kitchen with it. Returned to say they would do another one but would I mind if it was 'butterfly' cut _ I passed and instead went for another crab starter - not as nice as first (but maybe that’s because it was my second one). My wife's main was more like 3 strips of beef than medallions - she ate 2 and left the third (not tender). We paid the bill - €60.80 + €6 service charge (can't blame the floor staff for very poor food). No apology from the manager who walked by our table 3 times. WILL NEVER BE BACK HERE.

I've eaten in the pub downstairs loads of times and have never been disappointed so last Sunday evening we had dinner upstairs in the main restaurant. The decor is nice, similar to the pub downstairs. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and attentive, it was quite busy when we dined. Just one thing - there were tea lights on each table but none of the staff lit any of them, I think it would have been just a little touch that wouldn't had cost much time or money (but it's just one of my pet peeves). Overall though a very pleasant experience.

Although the FXB name is synonymies with steaks don't be fooled! They also have good fish options too! Downstairs in the pub is great for a casual bar meal and unlike other pubs the tables are comfortable and at the right height (nothing worse than having to eat scrunched up off a low table!) The tapas are lovely and 3 tapas give a decent feed - especially with the lovely warm soft bread that accompanies. Upstairs in the restaurant nice touches like a selection of bread with butter and dips come complementary. However it is one of those restaurants which charges extra for veg - why oh why...? Having said that the flavour of their steaks is the best around!

Excellent restaurant with an unusual blend between 'Pub' and 'Restaurant'. We had a retirement lunch here and they made the upper part of the restaurant available for us and served some lovely T-bone steaks, great wine and in the 'Pub' great pints!

If there is one place I love to spend my lazy Sunday evenings it is FXB in Monkstown. Not only is it comfy and extremely relaxing, the steak & chips from The Bar menu is to dye for. The new management have turned this restaurant into a place that I long to re-visit again & again. I know I have actually had dreams about their steaks & delicious pepper sauce!

I've eaten there many times. The slow roast hock of pork is nice, but you'll be eating it for a fortnight! The Lamb shank just falls of the bone, fab. I wasn't overly impressed with the Chicken Caesar salad, very overpriced for lettuce, caesar dressing and chicken, that was it :( Their desserts, death by chocolate, looks like a moose, but is divine!

Eating in FXB's is always a pleasure. The hubby and I ate there last Saturday night. The weather was awful so it was nice to get in out of the rain to somewhere warm and welcoming. To start I kicked off with the tiger prawns, which were delicious, and my hubby went for the oven baked spicy meatballs. Both starters were very enjoyable. The highlight in FXB’s is always their steaks, you are confidant that you will get a great cut and the steak will be cooked to your liking. We weren't disappointed - 2 fillets came out perfectly cooked and were devoured. No room for desert I'm afraid, as the portions are always generous! Will be back soon.

FXB's at The Pub. Having tried unsuccessfully to get a table on a bank holiday Saturday we opted to eat from the menu downstairs in the pub and we were not disappointed. Opting for Cajun chicken skewers and prawns they were both lovely. The steaks to follow were beautiful. Tender and cooked to perfection. The extensive wine list is reasonable. Would definitely be going back to enjoy good food in great atmosphere.

I have had a few great meals here but recently the quality has gone badly down hill. The second last time I was convinced my fillet was a sirloin only to be told by the rude waitress that sometimes 'fillets look like that' - well I have never seen a flat & bitty fillet! On the last occasion there were four of us dining on a Saturday night. For starters, plates & steaks were cold. 2 were returned, only to return as the same steaks put back on the pan & brought back out to us - what was meant to be rare was now overdone. Of these, 1 was sent back (the other diner being too hungry to wait - at this stage it was 10pm). Steak came back literally 5 minutes later. Now, I know they char grill their steaks but this had been cremated on the outside but was rare in the middle - you could taste the gas from the grill on the outside - similar to the taste you sometime get from a Burger King Whopper! Sent back again, this time pan-fried & wonderful - except she was eating alone as we had all finished. To sum up, waitress was rude & after the disaster of a meal all they offered was a complimentary cheese board. We will not be back again & I would advise others to stay away.

This restaurant has noticeably improved recently, and provided us with a wonderful night out for 4, including a vegetarian. The food was wonderfully presented and the service was superb and friendly. Despite being a specialist meat restaurant, the vegetarian meal provided was well presented and extremely tasty. Overall an experience to be recommended, and in our case repeated soon.
