I got a nice table in their lovely sunroom. Only objection I had to the decor was the tiger skin hanging from the roof. Came with the purchase of the building I believe but not very PC in this day and age depending on your prospective. Service was quick, attentive and polite. I just went for a main course and had salmon with shrimp sauce. I asked for stuffing and extra sauce with it which they kindly gave me. The stuffing seem to be little more than breadcrumb and a binder, I've tasted nicer. The sauce was okay but I would have liked to have seen some shrimp in it rather them being pulverised into the sauce which I presume they were. The shreads of fennel that were supposed to come with it were nowhere to be seen. I got mashed & roast potatoes and the raw onion I requested instead of whatever vegetable was on. They were happy to please and tailor my meal to suit me. The meal was filling & tasty though I would have preferred the salmon served skin down rather than skin up. The mineral came at a special price of €2 with the main which was good value. I thoroughly enjoyed my meal and the surrounds. It's the sort of pub you'd enjoy even if you're not into drink.

I'll get straight to the point I use to love nothing more than a Sunday lunch or an evening meal here so it disappoints me to say I've noticed a steady decline in the quality of the food over the past year or so. I do hope things pick up or I'll have to look for an alternative. Don’t get me wrong I still love the pub, great pint and great staff but the food is starting to let the place down. 5 stars the last time I reviewed, can’t give you that this time.

Popped into the Dropping Well for lunch a couple of weeks back. Restaurant was fairly busy so we chose to eat in the pub which was quieter. They offer a good range of food from your full roast dinners to sandwiches. We chose a mixture of dishes from paninis to burgers all of which were accompanied with tasty homemade chips. Food arrived quickly and portion sizes were large. The quality of food is good and service was of a high standard. Definitely recommend for a quick bite to eat. Might try out the Sunday lunch sometime too

This pub gives you the option of having food in the restaurant at the back or at your table in the lounge. The menu is good and the quality is very high for pub grub however it is very expensive. They also have deals such as steak and a pint/wine for €20 which i had, and was very happy with. Overall, lovely pub food at more than pub prices.

Droped in here last Friday night for a bite to eat. It's a great sporting pub and has a nice dining area overlooking the Dodder river. Service on the night was a little scrappy as four different waitresses appeared at our table throughout the meal yet it was hard to get anybodies attention when needed. Food wasn't bad, they do a nice chicken liver pate, steak was ok, dessert was disappointing and didnt appear to be homemade as described. It's a little on the expensive side for a pub but for a casual bite to eat it's not bad.

For pub grub this is good, but fairly over-priced. I'd go again if in the area but wouldn't go out of my way to visit the dropping well. Staff are friendly, atmosphere is nice, and I cant really fault the food. Just felt a bit short changed I suppose. The bar is a nice spot for a pint, and it's nice to take a walk down the Dodder afterwards too.

I find the food here to be alright, but expensive for how much there is. There is a value menu which isn't the best tasting, but I would reccomend it if your in the area. It's a good place for a few pints especially if your going to see a leinster rugby match. Drinks wise they have mid strength Guinness and Carlsberg on taps. The table staff are very friendly and give great service.. the bar staff can be very rushed at times.

We came here on Sunday for a family birthday. The Dropping well is an old family favourite with us. The service is impeccable and the food is great hearty Sunday Lunch grub. The atmosphere is also great, you have the choice of sitting in the bar or the separate restaurant area which is really pleasant. I would recommend booking for lunch or dinner at the weekend as it gets really busy.

Went here with my family for a late Christmas Eve lunch. Wow! The service was friendly and unhurried. The selection was excellent for a meat eater and above average for a 'fish and veg only' eater!! Indeed, my prawn salad was positively heaving with the little critters!! The atmosphere was also lovely, we had a window seat....maybe it was the snow....the day that was in it....the glasses of vino...it doesn't matter - my favourite pub grub yet!

even though i live 2 minutes from this pub my first time in here was on Friday. was a horrible cold friday night so myself and 2 friends decided drinks and food were in order here. the place was really full so lovely buzzy atmosphere about the place and i loved the xmas decorations! id anything it was a little too hot - weird complaint i know. we decided to sit in the Pub over the restaurant as we preferred the atmosphere - i got the seafood chowder and my friends went for chicken gougons and chips - they were only €8 each - CHEAP!! tasted good too! had a few drinks too - hot whiskey and sauvignon blanc. a lovely relaxing night and i shall certainly go again!

This is our local, but we'de never been so gave it a try. We sat in the outside conservatory which is great on a nice evening. The host who I think was the owner was very friendly and welcoming. We had the steak deal with a drink which was great value. The steak itself was not a great cut of meat, but all the sauces and sides that came with it meant this really didn't matter.

Went for Sunday lunch, had eaten here before with friends and found it lovely but was really disappointed this time. There was little or no flavour from the food, and it was expensive for what we ate... Small portions and we left feeling hungry... Pretty average, we won't be going back anytime soon. However the staff and atmosphere were lovely, its a pity about the food!

Was skeptical about going back after a disaster of a meal a year ago. This time though exceeded expectations. Fantastic food. When they have they BBQ special then order the steak. It is perfectly cooked and the free drink is a nice touch. Good job to all at The Dropping Well

The setting by the river here is gorgeous especially on a nice day, the staff are very friendly and helpful. The menu itself is quiet good but not all of it is good value - one slice of bruscetta served with a small side salad cost six euros and was worth about too. A spot worth going to if you stick to the value menu

Went here for a quick bite with my partner saturday evening. I got the vegetarian pasta and it was delicious. My partner got the steak sandwich and was also very impressed. The waitress was very polite. Although we did not order wine, we had a look at the wine list which had a good selection.

I went this morning with my boyfriend for a Sunday Irish Breakfast.I asked the waitress to take out the black pudding from my breakfast and I had been served only black pudding!! When I explain the mistake to another waitress, She was going to change the order, but the first one very rudely explain that I was colour blind and left me with a wrong order, extremely unsatisfied as I am not either color blind or stupid. I certainly wouldnt repeat the experience! And I would never set my foot at this pub again.

Dined here again this evening and had four main courses. The special was beef strogonoff which I had and it was good, but the portion was not large. My companions had chilli con carne, fish and lasagne and all were pleased. Service was great and very friendly and we had two drinks each--everything came to €88 which we felt was reasonable. Recommended for good value food but a special occasion;; perhaps??

Have eaten here many times, the staff are very friendly and efficient. The food is "Pub Grub" but very well done and good value. It has great athmosphere and is a great place to watch sports on TV. The menu is very varied and the portions are generous, good steaks etc. very busy for lunch and they also do a great breakfast. They fall down on desserts though. Nice place to meet a few friends and they have a great terrace outdoors and a few good small alcoves inside which makes it nice and private for small groups.

I often meet friends in the Dropping Well for a drink as its very near my house. Was there recently and was delighted to be able to sit on the terrace. Normally, we have our children with us and children are not allowed on the terrace. Its set in a beautiful location with a lovely view of the river in the background. Service is very good and you are never left waiting long for a drink. Their tomatoe and mozarella starter is delicious. I would not recommend it on a Sunday afternoon though as its very packed and functional, much nicer in the early evening or for lunch during the week.

Went to the Dropping Well on a Sunday at about 6pm for a late dinner. The place was pretty dead. The menu is extensive but most meat dishes are at around the 20e mark which is expensive for pub grub. There is a value menu but the dishes on this are simple and only served with chips. Potatoes and vegetables only seemed to come with the more expensive dishes. Overall I wasn't that impressed.

Have eaten here numerous times, food has always been very good. The rib eye steak, in particular, is to die for!!. A little expensive for pub food & bad decor are the only complaints one could have. Friendly, attentive staff. Will continue to visit this fine pub.

I've eatan here on quiet a few occassions and the food is ok. The menu seems to be an effort to appeal to everyone with a mixture of dishes. They are very generous with the serving but charge well for it. Like so many barfood menus they are 'jack of all dishes but master of none'......... i will eat here again though because the service is good and the food is quick.Nice pub too

This place is just down the road from my bf's place so have popped in once or twice for convenience. As a pub I can't fault it, nice atmosphere with all sorts of punters. The food however is overcooked, bland and over priced, I'd try to avoid it, unless your taste buds are numb.

There are a few pubs on the stretch of the river Dodder that runs from this place up to Clonskeagh. None of them are great for food, which is a real shame. (It's also as a missed opportunity - in an affluent area like this someone could make a killing with a pub that served worthwhile food.) But, given the low standards that prevail, the food in Dropping Well isn't at all bad. You will have to suffer the idiotic decor in the pub, which is kitsch and careless and thoroughly nasty - more like a pseudo-Irish bar in eastern Europe than a proper Dublin boozer, but the dining area, towards the back of the pub, is nicely kitted out. The menu has some silly things on it : Why on earth would anyone come to a pub like this for a stir fry or a curry? But they also have a good range of the standard fare that you'd expect, for lunches and for dinners, and they have a team of chefs that know what to do with it - good crisp chips, nicely done steaks, generous (but over refrigerated) plates of smoked salmon. You can eat very well here if you avoid the dishes that obviously aren't in the chefs' area of expertise, and if you avoid the desserts, which, on the one occasion that we had them, were bad. This is very far from being the sort of place that you'd pick for a good dinner out, but, despite it all, it's better than average as a place to find yourself ending up in. It's also worth noting that the staff, especially the restaurant staff, are charming and lovely.

beware the low beam at the window seat. Last year I bumped my head badly against it. A year later, on being seated by staff at the same table on this occasion, I lowered into the chair and my head got a right wallop. On neither occasion did the staff seem concerned and just brushed it off. I can understand their not wanting to lose a good seat by blocking off this hazard but the staff offer no verbal warning or put any warning on the beam. you don't expect to get injured on your night out. I found their response shabby and nothing has been done to protect customers.

Ok, this pub is very near me and it’s quite nice during the week. I absolutely hate it on Sunday when all the tattooed carvery crowd drive in from wherever and order copious amounts of food and sit munching with their extended families. Although it’s a pub, they look at us crooked when we order fries for our kids and just drinks for ourselves and you’re elbow to elbow with the people at the next table. OK during week, avoid on Sundays.

Pleasantly surprised with the food in this restaurant as it is delicious. Dined on Oriental Chicken & Veg stir fry with Noodles, topped off with a lovely bottle of white. My dinner buddy had the steak with Chips & veg which was also delicious apparently. Desserts are huge. Lovely seats over looking the river. Certainly worth a return visit.

I decided to treat my brother (who's currently getting used to student life) to Sunday lunch and chose The Dropping Well due to its proximity to the brother's college accommodation. On entering the establishment, you get an immediate feel of the old Irish pub. Although it gives the impression of being quite a large pub, the fact that it's broken up into separate alcoves gives it a cosier feeling than you would expect. I had pate & toast for starters and a roast half chicken with mash & veg for my main. The pate was as good as you'd get in any city centre restaurant for double the price. And my main course was a good proper Sunday dinner - just what I needed. The brother ordered the soup which he loved and bangers and mash. Although stuffed to the gills afterwards, we both indulged in dessert. The warm apple pie was melt in the mouth and the brother's banoffi was also hoovered up in record time. This may be a pub, the I think "pub grub" could slightly misguide those looking for good food. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone for a lovely meal and a friendly atmosphere. The only teeny tiny negative was the the waitresses gave off a slight air of underlying panic and although this was not reflected in the service (all courses were delivered in a timely & friendly manner) I felt slightly uneasy trying to manouver my way to the toilets past the busy bees that they were. Apart from that - fantastic!

The Dropping Well is a famous pub, but to be honest, I find eating there dull. The atmosphere can be oppressive and too warm. The food is grand. Not great, not tasty, just filling. And it's expensive for pub grub. Shouldn't there an unwritten rule that pub grub should never break the tenner mark? I won't be returning for my lunch, there are better pubs.

I'm always having lunch in here! The food is great, especially if you're with a companion who has different food preferences. The usual pub grub and food like that but this place also does delicious stir-frys and lighter food. Staff are so polite and very prompt with orders. Maybe not the place to go unless you have well-behaved children as the staff are considerate towards other guests as this is a great place to enjoy your meal and not be rushed out. Would recommend this place especially if you want a relaxing time as the walk along the river is lovely and very enjoyable.

Normally if I ordered a rare steak and recieved a well done one, that would warrant an instant bad review. However, the pleasent service and prompt, freshly cooked meal I recieved reminds you what service should be. The food is always tasty and reasonably priced. Its location is brilliant for going for a nice walk before food and the car park is very handy if you have a designated driver around. All in all a brilliant place.

A little dear for what you get. Beware - vegetables don't come with your meal. I ordered roast pork with I think it was bacon mash. My meal was a piece of pork on plain ordinary mash in the middle of the plate with a bit of sauce around it! It tasted nice but could have done with some veg. to fill you up! I won't be going back for more. The service was good though. Pity about the food.

Dropped by the Dropping Well on Sunday for lunch. Had the soup starter and the crown of turkey for main course. It was superb and reasonably priced. The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. It was not too busy but was getting busy as I was leaving. Well worth a visit.

Live very near here but hardly ever go it. Particularly hate it on a Sunday when the carvery crowd are there. Its so packed and so expensive. Would much prefer to go to a proper restaurant. Have only ever had drinks there and the kids have had chips. Don't think they like kids much, not allowed sit with parents on balcony etc. and the staff eye them warily if they move half an inch. Overpriced, over packed and unfriendly.

Typical, consistent pub food. The food is a touch on the heavy side for my taste, but would be fab on a cold winters night. Real comfort food. Nice selection of beverages also!

Great tasting food, although the very plain white sliced pan that my Roast Beef Sandwich was served on was slightly disappointing. Service was brilliant, very friendly and full of recommendations for the unsure. All in all an enjoyable and filling experience.

Really like going to lunch here - really good food and lots of it. The chicken with mushroom sauce is a firm favourite of mine and the staff are always very friendly. Go early on the rugby days to get great soakage food before the place gets jammers. Always a good atmosphere and good fresh food.

Yes I would agree the food was yummy! Everything was so nice that I went for all 3 courses and wasn't disappointed. The apple and blueberry crumble to finish was truly delicious!

Yummy! Yummy! Yummy! The food here is always lovely. Loads to choose from and really efficient service. Can be hard to get parking though.
