I am a regular at this fantastic little indian restaurant. Great food, quick and friendly staff and extremely well priced. Restaurant is small enough but always seems to have tables available.

This place has tasty and generous portions and you always get great service here too. It is a bit hard to find as the restaurant is on the 1st floor, but it is worth going out of your way as the food and the portion sizes are such good value even on the s[pecials menu. I do not have a favourite order as I like to try different things off this great indian menu.

A really nice Indian restaurant. The place is small, but the food is great. I had a Lamb Rogan Josh and was very tasty. The staff are very attentive and the prices are great. The early bird menu is good. The only problem with the place is that it's often cold in the room. They also do a take-away service.

The best Indian Restaurant we have ever eaten in. The Chicken Tikka Masala is fantastic, always the same so we are never disappointed. The staff are really helpful and they always have time for a chat. Really reasonable menu and you can bring your own wine and they dont charge you to open it. Enjoy!

Excellent restaurant have eating here on numerous occasions. Butter Chicken is the nicest dish I have ever eaten. Eat it at least once a week from there takeaway, its not actually on the restaurant menu but it is amazing!!!. Staff are very courteous lunch menu and early bird are great menu although selection could be better just has the usuals, tikka masala roganjosh etc. Priced very very well overall highly recommended!!! Booking is a good idea, I have never had any problems but when collecting takeaway there has been people arrive unannounced and there have been no tables.. word of warning!!

Even though we live in the area for 10 years we only tried out Shakira recently and have been back twice within 2 weeks! The food is outstanding, service ever so polite and efficient and extremely good value for food, wine and beer. Wine menu is basic but there are some nice bottles in particular a Macon Lugny priced very competitively.

A great value small quaint restaurant with original indian cuisine from different regions of India. Early bird menu represents excellent value at €15 for 2 courses and tea/coffee. Portions are just enough and staff are very helpful if your not familiar with the cuisine. Location is above a street shop and is quite a small area but not crowded. Would recomment to anyone.

Ate here for the first time and found it very good value but not outstanding food. The restuarant is located above a shop on the main st and has quite basic decor. The staff were very nice and very efficient. We both ordered from the veggie Early Bird which is very good value at €12 for starter, main, rice or naan and tea/coffee.We also got complimentary poppadoms with 4 dips.3 of the dips were nice but one was awful and loaded with salt. Our starters of onion bhaji and veg pakora were very tasty and were large portions served with nice salad. My veggie curry was quite tasty but nothing special with little depth of flavour. It was medium spicey as requested but the veg looked and tasted like frozen veg.My companion's methi chaman spinach and indian cheese dish was nice and was hot as requested. The rice and peshwari naan were fine but the naan was a little too greasy. We ordered raita and it was good.We declined tea or coffee as we were very full. The portions were huge and overall it was very good value for money.

Great little restaurant in Dun Laoghaire. Went for an early bird last week, not my first and definitely wont be my last here! I would highly recommend the veg dishes. Lamb is also excellent. Really authentic and tasty food. The poppadoms at the start are an excellent extra. The only thing lacking about this place is the interior and its location. The food outdid its modest surroundings! Also the traditionally dressed waiters who are extremely polite seal the deal for me!

Visited this restaurant as a family and were more than happy with food, service and value for money. Waiters were very friendly and accomodating to the children. Food is authentic and flavoursome and they will make it as hot and spicy as you wish. Would definitely recommend this restuarant to all Indian food lovers!

Love Indian food so based on the reviews decided to pay this restaurant a visit. It was an awful rainy night and mabe this was the reason the restaurant was so quiet which was a pity. The music was authentic which I really liked and decor was the same. The waiter was very friendly and service was excellent. Food was piping hot and served very quickly. House wine was very reasonably priced and went down well. Starters and mains were delicious and served on piping hot plates. Two starters, two mains and a bottle of house wine €56 which is excellent. Will definitely pay a visit again. Please visit this lovely little restaurant!

decided to pay a visit yesterday for a takeaway as it was such a warm day outside, the place didnt look such from the outside and you would allmost walk right passed it.but upon entering i found the atmosphere busy and relaxed, the guy has very helpfull and friendly and immediately made us feel welcome.it also had an authentic indian feeling about the place. i ordered the chicken adrak with rice and my wife stuck with the safe option of chicken korma and nam bread, mine was medium spicy but i found it manageable not really hot, but very taste also they have offers of certain starts free with your takeaway if over 20euros, menu has a huge selection so the only real delay was trying to decide what to have. service was very fast and very helpful and friendly, it was the icing on what was a great day out. defo be back to try some new and exotic and very spicy.defo worth a visit for takeaways, good value and good portions

We have been here a few times before and have always had an excellent meal and evening and this time was no different. We were in early so the place was empty, but guests soon started to filter in. I had the lamb madras with lemon grass rice (which had been suggested by a friend) and that was superb. Only negative issue is that only small bottled beer available and I like pints with my curry! Will be back nonetheless!

An Indian restaurant on valentine's day?.Bet your life. We'd been before to one of Dun Laohgahaire's best kept secrets and taken local and overseas guests. Again we were not disappointed. The qualitity of the food is simply the best Indian you can possibly find in Ireland. All ingredients freshly prepared and the waiters cheerful and helpful. From the usual sambal and dips to the starters and mains, freshness, hygiene and customer attention highlight this gem.The servings are always very generous and the meat dishes from fish to chicken is so tender and the sauces are so fresh and tasty you just must leave completely satisfied (even with the sensible prices). For San valentines they made a special dessert:a mango mousse. It was so exceptional we tried to obtain the recipe. No luck! The mixed sizzling grill is my favouite. Our Valentine's guests were enviuos but astounded by their orders. We'll go back again and again. It's enchanting in a world where Indian restaurants can be a dime a dozen.

Shakira is fast becoming my favourite restaurant! Yet another delicious veggie delight for the amazing early bird of e11.95. Tried the vegetable curry for the first time which the boy wasn't too excited about...but that just left more for me!! And the naan seems to keep getting better and better. Also love the poppadoms with all the scrummy sauces. If you haven't gone here yet...GO!

We've always used Shakira as a takeaway source for those nights when you don't necessarily feel like cooking in the kitchen. To our delight, we discovered they had a restaurant in the heart of Dun Laoghaire! Always wanting to support a delicious restaurant, we headed out to sample their tasty delights. Once inside, we recognized a staff member who cordially greeted us and had us immediately seated at a table. There weren't many people inside the restaurant so, it wasn't loud or annoying with toddlers poking their faces in your food. Musically, there was traditional Indian tunes to transport you to New Delhi! We decided to try the dish, Beef Balti, which is our favorite at Shakira and wondered if there would be any differences between the takeaway version to the restaurant's. The food arrived promptly and fresh with naan bread. One taste and we were in heaven as the Balti was cleverly seasoned and spiced just right. It exceeded our expectations yet, we were unable to finish it. Overall, prices and service are unbeatable. Everything on the menu is reasonably priced and with enough food to feed a family of 4. The waiters are exceptionally kind and gracious without ever being a nuisance. If you want to eat something other than a batter burger, head out to Shakira and give your tastebuds a new awakening! We love Shakira and will return very soon!!

a group of 14 of us went for a friends 40th. We brought our own wine, which was kindly opened by the staff, with no corkage charge. Excellent set menu for the Valentines weekend-€45.00 for 2 starter, 2 main, 1 rice, 1 naan, 2 dessert and 2 glasses of wine. I had Lamb Kebab to start and then Tandoori chicken makhani. Couldn't finish mains as I was so full. Food was superb, and not one of us could fault any dish we were served.

We braved the cold cold midweek night expecting the place to be empty but there were others there too who must have had the same idea - we had a lovely meal - everything was delicious. The naan bread was exceptional, I asked for garlic and coriander bread which was not on the menu but this was not a problem and they rustled the best one ever up. We had the lamb kofte and a lovely vegetable chilli curry which was very good and we also had the potato and aubergine dish which was scrumptious. The service was so pleasant and it is somewhere you can just go, eat and be anonymous – posing is not on the menu here.

My family and I are Indian so we know Indian food - and this is really one of the very few restaurants that we go to regularly. The food is always very good, service great and value for money outstanding. I have found nothing better yet in the greater Dublin area. My family is vegetarian and we have yet to spend more than 50Euros on a meal (two adults, two kids). I typically will not drink with the meal but the kids have a mango lassi each and for under 50 E, we are stuffed by the time we leave. Another example - took my team out for Christmas dinner 2008. Eight people, brought our own wine (no corkage), total bill??? 150Euros! Food is good quality Punjabi cuisine, best yet found in Dublin. Go there - quality food, save the pennies, there's a recession out there! Ashok

was warned not to go but went anyway. dont doubt that some people may have had a nice meal but ours was rough. my chicken chilli masala was like somethin i would make half assed with no ingredients.. not like an indian. my girlfriends vegetarian meal was only good for one thing, and that was for me to take a picture of it to show to our friends for a laugh.. i still have the photo.starters were burnt, cold and salty. i thought they were taking the mickey but this was actually the food. shocking. sorry but true.

This is a great place for good food at very reasonable prices. The early bird costs € 14.95 - being popadums, starter and main course. If you don't want the early bird you can have a starter and main for a few Euro more. Bring your own wine and there is NO corkage charge. The staff are friendly and efficient. We attend regularly, and in the current climate this place is to be highly recommended if you wish to dine well at little cost The decor is 'homely' and the access is a little steep, but over all its is a very good package

Ate here for the first time this evening and had the early bird menu (meat option) for €14.95. There also seems to be a good vegetarian early bird available. The restaurant is on the first floor and the stairs are steep and rather unwelcoming. The decor is very basic and the room was being heated by a superser (there was a slight smell of gas which reminded me of my first flat!). The toilet is very narrow and awkward to negotiate in and out of. However, it seems extremely clean and the friendliness and efficiency of the staff and service completely eclipse any shortfalls in interior decoration. The food was plentiful and excellent. First fresh popadums (not often encountered) with excellent pickles and raitha. Then we had the chicken tikka and seehk kebab as starters. These were big portions and extremely tasty. For our main courses, we had chicken balti, chicken tikka massala and an extra vegetarian side dish of potato and aubergine curry.Naan or rice come with each menu. The extra dish definitely pushed up to our limits - no desert is included and no desert could have been consumed! The presentation was simple but a little different - the balti was served in a copper canister-like affair. The balti was delicious and the vegetable curry was the star of the show without a doubt. The tikka massala was good but just a bit too heavy. A pot of tea later, we left with broad grins and 40 odd euro lighter (incl tip). Will definitely be returning!

i got a take away with my boyfriend last thursday. we had onion bhajis, chicken korma with rice, peswari naan bread and a mango dessert. everything was lovely except the korma sauce. that tasted like chicken soup and looked like it had been blended. the chicken was cooked really well and was very tender. i didn't eat it but my boyfriend loved it.

The shabby decor of the restaurant and its bleak staircase give you an entirely negative view. We were tempted to walk away but are glad that we did not. My wife had chicken tikka for starter which was very good. My lamb tikka was not as good. The tandoori mixed grill was excellent and at a very reasonable price. My king prawn tandoori was dissappointing - middling sized tiger prawns which were a little bit tough. I had a dahl to accompany the meal. It was excellent but at €7.95 this is a bit overpriced. The BYOB for wine with no corkage is a great bonus. The wine menu does not reflect any lower margin to reflect the purchasing alternative. Overall the restaurant represents good value for money.

Refreshing, non pretentious - authentic restaurant - no frills - that’s what I like anyway - no dressing up, no posing. Good food - fantastic prices - fantastic service, so accommodating. Naan bread is the best - potato & aubergine dish is the business. The music is fine, bollywoodish perhaps but upbeat. KEEP GOING YOU ARE A FREIND TO DUN LAOGHAIRE

I went for an early bird in Shakira recently on the recommendation of a friend. I'm a huge Indian fan, and I was highly impressed. The service was excellent; very friendly and efficient. The value was almost unbelievable for what I got: 2 enormous veg samosas, large plate of tarka daal and delicious fluffy Naan bread, for 11.95! Only grievance was the quite thick batter on the samosas. My partner had a delicious korma, and we took full advantage of the BYOB policy! Great night, tell your friends about this little gem!!

Such a gem of a restaurant. Don't let the cheap looking sign outside put you off. The staff are so lovely and the menu is endless. Such good value and food is so tasty and filling. I love that the food isn't swimming in oil which happens a lot in Indian restaurants. If you do go you must order the naan bread soooo delicious, especially the peshwari.

Excellent Indian food!!Best i've ever had and I mean it.I get takeaways from this restaurant and the waiting time is a bit long so order well before you starve, but definitely worth it.The starters aren't that nice but that doesn't put me off the main courses!

Can't understand the criticism of the food, (driver is his own person) but I suppose we are all allowed are our opinion. It's a breath of fresh air to have a non-pretentious restaurant. Food was great, not at all too oily or unhealthy, BEST Naan bread in the Europe! Service was excellent. Nice place to just chill and eat any pay homage to the wonderfulness of Indian cuisine.

I loved the food in Shakira. I loved the upbeat Indian music they were playing. I felt so comfortable there, no big dressing up - no posers - waiting staff were so helpful - place is very clean, don't know what the other poster is on about. The stairs is steep, don't drink too much.

If I was the poor owner of this restaurant I would despair at Macconmidhe's comments. OK the driver lacks a bit of charm, (I'd say the owner is way to polite to say anything to him), but the restaurant itself really cannot be faulted. This little restaurant is spotless, the food is grand, the owner couldn't be nicer and any more accommodating and if you want unpretentious good value than this is where it is at, and you can even bring your own drink.

We got a take away from Shakira not so long ago. The general demeanour of the driver was awful. But didn’t shock me as much as his hygiene. However being over hungry and having waited so long we went ahead and tucked into a meal that turned both our stomachs. There is generally a theory that spices where only brought into cooking to mask the taste and smell of rotting and putrid meat. I would recommend abstaining completely from Shakira.

Great value and excellent service. Shakira is a lovely little no frills establishment. The Seekh gentleman who runs the show is always polite and attentive and the set meals cannot be beaten for sheer value. The meat is always of the highest quality and served in abundance and they have a vast array of vegetarian dishes. Granted this is just more of the same three pot cookery that most "Indian" restaurants/takeaways utilise but the quality of the produce is always spot on and nicely spiced. BYO, no corkage.

This is by far the best Indian food you can get in South Dublin. I have tried a lot of Indian restaurants around most of south Dublin and food in Shakira is the best. The staff are always friendly. The Restaurant itself is very dated, small and a bit shabby looking. In the winter it is heated by one gas heater and can be a bit cold at times but it is well worth it for the food. Try the chicken Mahkani it is fantastic. Well worth a visit even if it’s just for a takeaway. I drive across most of south Dublin just to pick up a takeaway.

Small but nice. The food was really nice but it was obvious that it was a take away also. The waiter was very nice and helpful and I would recommend Shakira no problem.

Amazing value, truly authentic Indian cuisine bursting with flavour. A great menu to tickle the taste buds (I think I know where I’m off to for dinner today). The nann bread and rice are done to perfection, the textures and contrasts really compliment each other in every dish I've been fortunate to taste. Among the best tasting Indian food in Dublin and by far the best value. Highly recommended!
