Been to Harry's Bar twice with my family and we were happy with the service and food at both times. The 1st time we went there for breakfast and the 2nd time was for some scones and coffee in the afternoon. We were attended to and served quickly. Lovely place to go too for a quick bite especially when just walking around the Dun Laoghaire town.

Went for meal with the girlfriend on a Friday evening , expecting the place to be packed as it usually appears to be. It was very empty though and the atmosphere wasn't great as a result. The food was nice although the mashed potato had been really over worked and was quite starchy... almost the texture of glue. We had bought a voucher for Harry's Bar on Menu Pages so at least it was very cheap for the full meal. The staff were very nice and if anything they were over attentive as there were so few people there they had loads of time for us. I would definitely go back cause, even though I was a little dissapointed with the food, I think it is generally better and I really like the setting.

Availed of a meal deal. Friendly welcome and allowed to choose our own table even to the extent of putting two tables together so that we could both sit with our backs to the wall. My wife had Chilli Garlic Gambas on Toasted Bruschetta and I had Tex-Mex Chilli Beef Nachos as starters: both generous portions and very tasty. Had tuna from starter menu as a main course + Char-Grilled Aged Striploin - all full of flavour. Attentive waiter replenished our water without needing to be asked. The quality of the food and the friendliness of the service made for a very pleasant experience - will be back.

I've been eating at Harry's for years, mostly the odd breakfast of light lunch and have always had a great esperience. Recently however I feel the standards have sadly dropped. I went in for a breakfast about 2 weeks ago and was left unattended for over 15 minutes, no menu, nothing, The place is hardly huge and it wasn't even full but the waiter just completely ignored me so the girl making coffees had to leave her station and give me a menu. Eventually the waiter came over, took my order and even then got it wrong. 2 days ago I went back with my family for some lunch and again left feeling let down. Firstly the 3 of us had just sat down at a table for 4 when we were asked to move to a table for 2 with another chair. A very tight fit. Immediatly we vacated the table for 4 another party of 3 showed up and were allowed to sit at the table we had just left. They had not reserved a table, as we had not. We were not impressed! The 3 of us ordered. When two of the main courses were being served the waiter informed us that he shouldn't have taken my wife's order for pancakes as they had run out of pancake mix and didn't have time to make more. How can you not have time to mix some flour, eggs milk and water together? There was barely an apology, just a statement. So my wife had to re-order while we ate our lunch and we sat there while she eventually got hers. There was no warmth in the service, we had no feeling that our visit was appreciated, so we will not be back. A real shame as it used to be really great.

Response:
Dear Mr Pinto, As with all our reviews on Menu Pages, we consider carefully what is said by the customer. Thankfully, our reviews are usually around the 4star+ level. which we see is the level you generally review at. With regard to the first visit you were unhappy with, it is rare that a table is not attended to, but it can happen, as mistakes can be made and then we rely on the customer to indicate their presence. I apologise you were left waiting. As for the second visit, we asked you to move, as we try to manage our tables to maximise the number of seats. In these times, that is critical for us. Most of our customers are fine with this and understand. As for the food order, happily we were very busy and unfortunately we had run out of pancakes, unfortunately too Rory had forgotten and put your order in the kitchen. This was only noticed at the time the rest of the order was ready. Jack was upfront with you, when delivering the food and apologised a number of times, and took your replacement order, which was delivered in 5 mins. We were not in a position to make pancake mix at that time, as it would have disturbed the timing of the other orders in the kitchen. In addition the pancake mix and preparation is not as simple as you suggest. Our preparation was behind, as our 2nd shift cook was an hour late due to transport issues. As you can see, most problems are around people and unfortunately, we all make mistakes, we try to minimise them, always improving. While we rarely impact the customer, in your case we did. My apologies. Do call and see either Andy or myself. Derek

Very friendly cafe and a good place to meet a friend for a cup of coffee or Saturday brunch. I got the big breakfast which was lovely. My only complaint was I only got 1 sausage instead of 2 but I was full anyway with the generous portions. Lovely coffee too. Would recommend!

Like the food and go here sometimes when im in this part of town. But everytime I leave, after having lunch, or a breakfast tea & muffin, there's a bad taste in my mouth with the price on the bill. 10euro for a cafe ham & cheese sandwich, is a bit much in these times, even if it is an open sandwich. And I noticed a slice of cake was boardering on 7euro. There are 2 places in town that I frequent on Bath Avenue, Ballsbridge and Benburb St, Smithfield that are banging out amazing food at lunch for around 5euro. Having said that, I always get a seat here when I pop in which is nice. But maybe that's because of the daytime prices.

Had a lovely brunch on Sunday in Harry's. It came recommended from some Welsh friends who also ate there on Sunday morning. Service was good, staff were friendly and we had a lovely seat in the window. Thank you! Keep up the good work!

Went for Breakfast numerous times and Dinner for the first time the other week, had high expectations due to the breakfast always being great, as its a usual haunt on a sunday morning, however the dinner wasn't as good as the cafe. The atmosphere is always great and the staff are so nice here, you'd nearly invite them to join you for dinner. The early bird is good value in comparison to others in Dun Laoghaire

Went here last Saturday evening for the first time and I'll definitely be back! We went for the early bird menu which was really good value at €17 for 2 courses. Service was great and staff were lovely. We both ordered the classic burger and I can honestly say that it was the nicest burger we have ever had! Would strongly recommend this restaurant and if you go order the classic burger, you won't be disappointed.

We called in one drizzley Sunday afternoon and were seated and served straight away (always a bonus). Found one of the waiting staff very grumpy and not very friendly, especially whilst waiting for a high chair for our son. The table beside us also made a comment when they asked for a sauce, I think the poor girl felt like she had asked for a body part of said staff member. Still, I would return for a bowl of the chowder alone, yummy!

Visited this popular spot opposite the shopping centre on Dun Laoghaire’s Georges Street for a spot of breakfast on a nice Saturday morning. Restaurant was nearly full which was a good sign, there is a very nice selection of breakfast and brunch items so plenty of choice of eggs pancakes etc. I opted for the full Irish and my girlfriend had the scrambled egg on toast. Both were very fine, only gripe was the cost at EUR 18.00 for the two of us this is too much for breakfast. Can get similar offer and nicer further down Georges Street for about EUR 5 less. The owner at the till when paying appeared to be very gruff with staff and customers as well.

This was our second time here. we had been here a good few months back and we had a fantastic meal, very enjoyable. So we were visiting friends and we all decided to go there for dinner. What a let down,we went for the nachos for starters and it was bland not at all spicy. I went for the chicken & pepper main and it was not seasoned at all, didn't enjoy it. My boyfriend (a chef) went for a burger and that was over cooked and rubbery, he didn't finish it. The only good thing on the table was the chips ( with the added salt by us) There must have been a different chef on that night!!! Won't be in a rush back.

I love this place at night, never been during the day. Go regularly with wife and kids. chilled out music, gorgonzola starter is to die for. Spicy burger always hits the spot and washed down with a few bottels of Moretti yumm, toilets are a bit dingy but dont spend much time in them. Service is generally good, some staff more attentive than others.. Early bird is great value.. but I have noticed the portion sizes getting smaller..

We had a fantastic meal here. We had the Nacho's as a starter but shared it between us. We went for the chicken dish and my husband had a burger and chips. The portions were perfect, the food was full of flavour, presented well and so fresh and the staff were excellent, very attentive but not in your face. For dessert I had the bakewell tart and my husband had the vanilla cheesecake which were amazing. I would love to go back and would defintely recommend it to anyone looking for fantastic food without spending a fortune. Feel like I've discovered Dun Laoghaire's little secret

Myself and my husband went for a bite to eat on recommendation from family and we were not let down. The portion sizes were very good, the food was very tasty, I especially liked my husband's starter of poached pears and gorgonzola bruschetta. Our waitress was friendly but not intrusive and very competant and accommodating. Will definitely be back!

Had brunch in here for the first time and thought the food was very nice but there is room for improvement. I had the french toast with berries and maple syrup. It was very tasty and the bread was good quality door step variety. My companion had the veggie breakfast of potato rosti with poached eggs, hollandaise and tomato. The eggs were cooked very well but the rosti was very small and the toast was basic sliced pan. It would have been better without the toast but with a bigger or more rosti. They did kindly ask if he wanted anything in place of the mushrooms he siad he didn't want and he got extra tomatos. The hollandaise tasted of almost nothing. My fresh squeezed orange juice was good quality if very expensive and the coffee was good. All in all a nice restaurant with good service and variety but very expenisve for what it is.

Was just passing Harrys and read the reviews in the window, would not have went in only for the review as it looked a bit tatty, scruffy newspaper in window, looked like a diner or cafe. Got seats and were given menus, we were not told of specials but spotted them on the board. We both settled for the specials, mine was the breakfast with tea and my other half ordered the chicken & brie tortilla which came with a free soup which was tomato. The tortilla came on a plate with the soup which was really delicious and very fillling. We were staying in a hotel close by where the breakfast was 18.50 each so we decided we would have lunch instead as we are not morning eaters and guess what the whole meal for 2 came to 18.50 which was a great price. Really enjoyed it. They do specials on evening meals aswel but we were really impressed with the lunch menu especially for the price.

We use to eat here most sunday mornings but moved away and after a year away we went down on sunday and I must say the food has taken a turn for the worst. The whole breakfast was deep fried were before it was all grilled or oven cooked. Would only go back if breakfast was grilled or oven cooked like before. It was such a let down as we used to love Sunday mornings in Harrys.

Went here for lunch at 1. Harry's is always busy, but managed to get a table quickly. I had the soup and sandwich deal. Soup of the day was a delicious chunky, spicy tomato and brown bread. The bread wasn't standard, but rather a very nice french style brown. This accompanised with a goat's cheese tortilla, done just right, nestled beside a small side salad. The service is always excellent, and there's a lovely buzz about the room. Going home, I couldn't resist getting one of their to die for raspberry scones.

went with my family on saturday after a matinee show. We hadn't booked a table so when we arrived we were happy to be told the wait would only be ten minutes. We gave our number and the server kindly rang us when our table was ready. We all decided to skip the starters so we went straight for the main. Unfortunately my original 2 choices were sold out ( fish pie an then sea bass) but i settled on the special of the day which was Cod served on a bed of salsa. It was delicious. The only thing was that there was no other accompaniant with it so if i had of know that at the time i would of ordered a side dish as it wasn't completely filling on its own. The staff couldn't of been more friendly and over all it was good value as we had a good few bottles of wine with our dinner. Will definately return!

I came here on a citydeal voucher. Arrived into a comfortable room and were offered a choice of tables. The waitress welcoming us was well informed about the deal and explained it back to us carefully so there would be no misunderstandings. All good. Wife's starter was Nahcos Grande. Despite being perfectly pleasant tastewise it was a lazy dish, broken nacho's, slopped together without any great thought. My starter was much more successful, a prawn bruschetta. Six or seven whole prawns in an oily chilli dip with toasted bread. I love this sort of dish, making a nice mess as you peel the prawns, the oil was nicely flavoured. A simple dish again, but this time done with a bit of care and craft. Chicken wings for son, again a good sauce, good quality wings and another simple dish properly executed to growed up standard. The attentive waitress noticed how uneconomical we were being with the tissues provided with the fingerbowls and brought more over without a need for request. Winning main was a piece of cod sitting on a mussely casserole. Steak, was a nice piece of striploin, properly cooked on good mash with french beans. Risotto was also very tasty and well executed, apart from somebody in the kitchen feeling the need to throw a lump of cranberry jam on top, maybe they were thinking of a rice pudding. When the jam had been surgically removed, it became a highly satisfactory dish. Lovely night with exceptionally good service. A couple of minor aberations with the food but overall very tastey and excellent value for money - even without a voucher.

This place is just around the corner from me and it is very busy for brunch/lunch on Saturday afternoons. I went here on a Thursday night with my boyfriend, we decided to avail of the meal deal. Order two starters and two mains and you get one main free. Great deal and the food is very tasty. I ordered chicken wings really not too spicy, delicious. My boyfriend ordered the nachos, what a feed, plently of cheezy nachos covered in zingy salsa, guacamole and chilli. Mains we went for the fish pie and burger, both packed full of flavour. We were stuffed leaving, great deal if you're hungry and fancy a feed.....

I had lunch here with my mum today. The staff were very friendly and it had a very nice atmosphere. I had the breakfast baguette. This was nice but they the rashers were quite fatty and they put the things in without any butter on the baguette so I had to take everything out, butter it and take the fat off and rebuld the who baguette. At a small table this is not easy. My mum had a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. Again, they put the cream cheese on the side so she had to take everything out to rebuild the bagel. I would come here again, the value was quite good and the food was nice!

Harry's has always been round the corner from me but I was really pleasantly surprised by how lovely the place is in the evenings when we got a voucher for there recently. It's very reasonable, the staff are lovely, the evening ambience very relaxed and the food was absolutely delicious. Menu caters for a wide variety of tastes also. Great value. Looking forward to going again soon.

I took my 3 housemates out to dinner in Harrys Cafe last night, I have only previously been there for breakfast, and after a chat with the owner thought I would come in and try the evening menu. They do a very good deal Tue-Sat evening for two, if you buy 2 starters you get one of your mains free. The atmosphere is very comfortable, a real local, relaxed and familiar air about the location. We ordered the nachos, chicken wings and fish cakes for starters. The nachos were the first to arrive and looked as divine as they tasted. My chicken wings were good, a nice spicy sauce covered them and an ample side of blue cheese dip. I also got a bowl of water and extra napkins without asking (which is always a nice touch, wings are messy you know!). For the mains 3 of us were too tempted by the char-grilled homemade beef burger with emmental and jalapeno relish, the other had the chicken. The burger was hearty and tasted gorgeous. The chips were skinny but plentiful. I had a glass of South African White to wash it all down and we were provided with plenty of water, again which we didn't need to ask for. Needless to say the service was pleasant, unfussy and prompt. The quality of the food is only met by the price, 4 starters, 4 mains (we got two free as per the deal) and a glass of wine came to e60. You can't go wrong with that value. Needless to say I'll be returning to Harrys for more....

I met some friends for lunch here. They offered us a free drink or soup with the sandwiches we ordered which was great value. Im not sure if maybe I ordered the wrong thing, I ordered a chicken and brie toasted wrap which was literally that-a couple of inches of chicken and a big blob of cheese. There was a little salad on the side. acceptable I suppose for lunch. And the free tea/coffee was a nice addition.

Harrys is probably the best spot for Sunday brunch in Dun Laoghaire. It has a varied menu and a great atmosphere. I have been here on countless occasions and tried nearly everything on the menu. Its all great. My only gripe would be the price- considering none of the options include tea or coffee with your order. Also the place itself could do with a bit of TLC-the tables are a bit tatty and the menus are always dirty. But other than that its a good shout.

Response:
Thanks for your comments, Free Tea or Black Coffee is with Small Breakfast on a weekday for 6 €. New table tops are arriving this week, just cash flow is soooo tight, difficult to spend capital and tatty menus have been renewed. Harry's

We visited this restaurant last Wednesday night. They had a great special offer of a free main course when ordering two starters and two main courses. The food was excellent. We had strawberry and mozzarella salad and chicken wings for starters - both very tasty. Then for mains we had fish pie - excellent and burger and chips - delicious. With two glasses of wine and two cappacinos, our bill came to €44. Hard to beat that one. Also, the service was excellent - very efficient and pleasant waiter. Will definitely be back.

Popped in for Breakfast on Saturday Morning...I went for the Rosti and poached eggs. It was good , in fact it was very good. Harrys' has a nice atmosphere to it and the staff are casual, friendly and efficient. My only gripe is the price. I guess you get what you pay for but with tea it came in at 11.50 ...a little pricey for breakfast in my book. In fairness though their dinner menu looked like good value so I might pop back and try that seeing as the food was so good.

A great spot for Sunday brunch if you are just looking for straightforward, simple food. We ordered Eggs Benedict, French Toast and Scrambled Eggs. They were grand. Eggs Benedict and the hollandaise was excellent, the scrambled were a bit dry and the french toast had more bread than gee but all in all, it was good food. If my only complaint is lack of freshly ground pepper in a place, I think it's doing allright :)

I go here about once a month or so for dinner and just love it. The guys who run the evenings couldnt be better in terms of service. The food is always super fresh and I just love the seafood tagliatelle. The menu is small, but perfect and for dinner with friends or a loved one, I would reccommend it. It should be a lot busier than it is, but I guess that's just because of the location. Or maybe Im lucky to have always got a table when needed! Enjoy

i spend quite a lot of time in dun laoghaire and must have walked by harry's cafe bar a million times - finally decided to check it out for myself yesterday - i must say i was well impressed and wished i'd popped in sooner. fab food, fab service (i know the reviews below seem to have bad luck with the service but mine was great - nothing to complain about there). i guess my only complaint would be it was quite loud cause it was so full but i guess that's a good sign. looking forward to another visit next week!

not a pleasant experience to say the least...service is woeful, food arrived 30minutes after I had ordered- had thought they might have been making it fresh hence the delay, but when i got it (eggs benidict with sauteed mushrooms(thats plural) to say it was carnige was an understatement, the potato rosti waas drowing in oil and had gone cold, the eggs were lukewarm -barely, the hollandiase sauce had solidified (it was putred) and I got one lonely withered mushroom with alot of black liquid surrounding it with my tomato swimming in it, presentation is key, obviously they dont think so, i wont be returning as the meal kept repeating on me all day, standards need to drastically

I have gone to Harrys for lunch with work friends a few times as its very convenient to our office and has a good selection of food for lunch. Its usually very busy at lunch time and you'll sometimes even see people queuing at the door waiting for tables to free up. Their soups are very, very nice, theres a different soup on the menu each day and even though I've never tried their seafood chowder myself, it seems popular as you'll always see a good few patrons eating it. Unfortunately what is on the menu isn't always what you get though. For example I once ordered an open sandwich that was listed on the menu as having roasted tomatoes but when it came the tomatoes were raw, not really a problem though as I simply asked for the dish to be put under the grill for a few minutes. This however did not go down well with the waiter who loudly tutted and grabbed the plate from in front of me and said nothing. Nor did he say anything when my plate was returned even though I thanked him. In general all of the staff are quite unfriendly, in fact once a colleague and I were in the middle of eating and a member of staff asked us to move tables to accomodate a larger group, we did but thought it was a little rude to ask while we were in the middle of lunch, had we been asked bfore eating, no problem. The food is also very overpriced, yes it is good (when you get what you actually order) but soup only comes with once slice of bread, and you are charged 90 cent for a second which is a bit steep. Most of the sandwiches/salads are around €8 which is also expensive and more times than not, the salad leaves aren't very fresh. If Harrys dropped their prices a little and the staff perked up a bit I think it would be a much nicer place to eat.

Had a quick bite here one night before going to the cinema as had seem a review and was always curious when I passe it by. Service was excellent. I had wings with a blue cheese dip and shared these with my hubby. I then had Moules Mariniere with fries. They were plentiful and a bowl of water with lemon was provided with napkins which I always appreciate. I hate having to ask for the obvious as I have done in the past. My other have shared the wings with me and there was a lovely kick to the blue cheese dip. He had the chicken which he said was very good and it came with vegetables and lots of chips which I helped him through. The glass of wine I had was reasonable at E5 and with a beer and two coffees it came to just over E40. Very reasonable prices for well done not too exotic food.

I recently had lunch in Harry's for the first time, having passed it many times, and I'll definitely be returning again during one of my Dun Laoighaire trips. It's easy to get to, - right on the main street, not a long walk from the seafront. It's lovely and bright inside (lovely big windows). The staff were very friendly and service was quick and efficient. There's a fairly decent variety of things to choose from on the menu, I opted for 'Harry's Salad', as another reviewer commented on, and it was great value at 6 euro ('starter portion').

Have been meaning to try the night time menu here since they began and after the great review in the Irish Independent I put it to the top of my list. Service is efficient and friendly, menu is interesting and refreshing. Prices are much better value than the day-time fare. Food is excellent! The three of us opted for fish - two fish pies and a linguini for myself, and we were all very pleased with our choices. The pasta was beautifully flavoured with generous helpings of mussels, clams and gambas (a new word to me: succulent king prawns). The boys remarked on how nice it was to get a fish pie that didn't come boiling hot in its own little pie dish! Instead it was very nicely presented on a plate with a generous side-salad. Glasses of wine were also generous in their measure and served at perfect temperature. One recommendation (not a criticism!)..perhaps the addition of a simple table-cloth would help to achieve a certain restaurant ambience, thus highlighting the switch from day-time cafe to night-time treat!

I've eaten lunch in Harry's many a time with consistant quality. The menu is okay but not wonderful if you can't eat bread like my lunch guest. I had the harry's salad which is actually a pretty decent size and has chicken, peppers, avacado, tomatoes and rocket with a honey mustard sauce. My guest had the chicken noodle soup which was okay but not particularly tasty. It can be a little pricy unless you go for one of the specials. Some times you can score a free soup or drink with some of their bready/paninni type menu offerings. Great if you're having a lazy breakfast at the weekend or just a bun and coffee though.

Only a coffee place. Ate here once , breakfast is overpriced and salty. Microwaved, eggs were runny, bacon was like a rock! service is very friendly. Cafe is a bit stuffy and tables are close together, they need more staff to hurry the process up it was almost impossible to get a waitors attention. Dry food, poor service, steep prices, WILL NOT BE RETURNING

Went here for lunch after a rough night out! The full breakfast is amazing! a bit steep in price but it is huge, and everything is fresh! no nasty microwavable rashers! And freshly squeezed orange, and a massive latte! was amazing! I was there a year ago, and it was awful. But is has completely changed. Am definately going back. The only thing they need to work on is waiting for the bill, that took a while. but is a minor detail.

I used to love Harrys for Sunday breakfast and decided to visit after not being here for over a year. I was saddened to see the removal of 'hicks' pudding & sausages as their regular breakfast items but instead cheaper more salty versions and to top it off the breakfast price had not reduced. The staff are always pleasant and nice but they were very understaffed and 2 tables who came after us got served their breakfasts before us. I expressed our frustration and was told they were on route, we ordered another coffee while waiting which I would have expected to have been on the house due to the delay. It tasted like the sausages and pudding had been deep fried but I asked when we were paying and was told that they are oven cooked...they definitely tasted too greasy to be oven cooked. The homemade tomato sauce was missing from my breakfast so I requested it - I was brought ketchup so I asked again for homemade tomato sauce and they never brought it. I don't think ill be visiting again in a hurry

Popped in here almost by accident and quite liked the place. I only needed a quick snack and cup of coffee, so I got the breakfast roll (it being a Sunday, and the morning-after-the-night-before) and an Americano. The breakfast roll was perhaps a bit scant, but was tasty and nicely done - i.e. no big, greasy, industrial-sized rashers, etc, but good-quality ingredients – but my big plus was the Americano (which is done so badly with such shocking frequency in Dublin) but this is one of the best places I’d had one by far. The décor is a laid-back, student café style, and had staff to match – one exceptionally cheery and one grumpy. In all quite a pleasant experience.

Went here for some brunch this afternoon. I had the Big breakfast and T had the French Toast. When we arrived were had to wait approximately 5 minutes for a table, but I have seen the queue further out the door than it was today. Staff appeared to be totally rushed off their feet and I tried to get the attention of the Waiting Staff a number of times before someone came down to take our order. Waiting Staff were very pleasant, overall. Coffees were nice, but arrived ages before the food so had been drank/gone cold by the time the food arrived. Both of us relatively happy with our food. The tables are very close together in this place which means that you are able to hear the conversations going on at the tables to either side without even trying to ear-wig. Felt the prices were a little steep, with the bill coming to €21.55 overall. Would come here again, but probably just for coffee next time.

I have been here for lunch a few times and for an afternoon coffee. The food is generally quite good, the service depending on how busy they are can be sporadic. The thai soup has good flavour but a bit too much aubergine and not enough chicken for my taste. The one problem I have with it, the ventilation system must be rubbish as my clothes always smell of kitchen afterwards.

Enjoyed our brunch here yesterday. We were lucky not to have to wait for a table as the turnover seemed to be quite fast. All of us enjoyed our food - I had potato rosti with poached egg and OH had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon! Both were yummy! Will def be back when we are next in Dun Lagohaire.

I went here today with some work colleagues for lunch,it was busy and we had to wait a long time for our lunch(about 30 mins, not accepatable on a lunch hour for a snack) Not only this but my friend ordered a vegetarian version of the special and when it finally arrived tucked in to fine there was meat on the dish. It then took about 10 minutes to change the dish with the smallest of apologues. When we left the owner(I assume) came over and apologised but did so by shrugging his shoulders, and made no attempt to cover the cost of my collegaues meal. As she was leaving she reiterated her disappointment to him and he told her "try not to think about it" at which point she reminded him it could have been an allergy and therefore much more serious. needless to say we wont be back there in a hurry which is a shame for them as we dine out alot at lunch.

I like to go for a walk on Dun Laoghaire pier the morning after a night out and follow it up with breakfast here. The potato rosti with egg Benedict is really nice. The service on a Saturday can be slow, we were sitting at our table a long time before I could catch a waitresses attention to ask to order!!! Last time I got raspberry scones to take away for my tea. They were fab, they came with little individual tubs of really good raspberry jam.

I love going for brunch but it is very rarely done well in Ireland. Harry's was recommended to me so I paid a Sunday morning visit. The place was jammed so I queued at the door with two mates. Eventually a waitress muttered something to us and motioned to a table at the top of the restaurant. It was a table for two! I asked if we could wait for a bigger table but she said that was all they’d have for awhile. Hunger won out over the comfortable spreading out of Sunday papers. But I wasn’t too impressed so far. We squeezed round the table, apologising to our neighbours for gosling theirs only to find the table had a serious case of the wobbles. Nothing annoys me more; we pay enough money not to sit hugging a table to stop our food/drinks sliding around. I mentioned this to a passing waitress and she kindly stuck a napkin under it which wasn’t much help. I was getting fed up with the place but the others wanted to persevere so we ordered – full breakfast, French toast with maple syrup and bacon and eggs Benedict with salmon and two teas and a coffee. Coffee was burnt but I’d lost the will to complain. The food arrived and I definitely got the best with the French toast which although a little on the cool side was edible. The eggs Benedict were hard but the salmon was good, the full breakfast consisted of undercooked bacon and microwaved sausages (you know when they go wrinkly), mushrooms, fried egg (hard), cold toast. How hard is it to serve warm food? All served by surely staff who obviously wanted to be elsewhere. I couldn’t wait to leave and find somewhere decent to have a coffee and read the papers in peace. Needless to say I haven’t been back.

We stopped here for lunch today after a blustery walk on the pier. I had a delicious thai chicken noodle soup with homemade brown bread and my husband had a an excellent bacon sandwich. The service was great and the food very tasty. Our bill came to €15 including a coffee. I think we'll go back to try the breakfast menu.

I go to this place quite often. They have the BEST hot chocolate in dublin. The food is nice, a bit pricy maybe. I love their thai soup. I just wish they would do gluten/wheat free bread. The only thing that put me off was - I was there one time with my boyfriend getting take away hot chocolate and coffee. The have a covered in display unit with cakes and then further up the counter then have a tray on the counter with muffins. My boyfriend picked up a muffin off the tray and asked to get it for take away also, and the manager got rather annoyed saying it was a health and saftey issue if customers touched the food and he should have asked a member of staff! We pointed out that they are just sitting there like as if to take them yourself and that if he doesn't want customers touching them he should have them behind a display unit also or put up a sign. We were put off a bit by his attitude, and him telling my boyfriend that he had an attitude problem! We didn't go back for a while after that but when we did there was a sign up saying please don't touch the muffins!

I used to go for breakfast here a lot but the prices put me off. I went in this morning as I really wanted some eggs benedict. Ordered it with smoked salmon as offered on the menu. 20 mins later, still no sign. The waitress eventually came over to say that there was no smoked salmon and could she offer me bacon instead. I said fine but was dismayed to be served two cold bullets instead of softly poached eggs on cold toast served with hollandaise sauce that needed salt. It had obviously been left sitting fo an awfully long time before they could be bothered offering me an alternative to the salmon. I won't be back.

Breakfast is what draws me there. I'm not a local to Dun Laighaire, but I am a regular visitor to Harry's. The food there can be a little over priced if you buy simple things like crossants or a scone, but if you go for things like the French Toast or Eggs Benedict then the value is a little better. Although kitchen is fairly efficient, the table service there is not great at all, never once have I ever seen a smile (well ok, maybe at the till when they are taking your money). I work in the food service industry and something like that really sticks out with me. Things like dropping the food on the table in an, "Uhh, I hate my job" kind of manner. IT'S JUST A SMILE, IT DOESN'T COST ANYTHING. Overall I like the place, just writing this comment is making my mouth water for Breakfast in Harry's. but the table service is rubbish.

As others have said, there's nowhere else that does breakfasts like this in Dun Laoghaire, so it's a welcome addition. Having said that, i'd agree with other reviewers on the prices, it's not quite €10 for a croissant with bacon and cheese (but it's still a steep €8.50). Unfortunately though, I can't see them coming down while the roaring trade continues. The french toast with mascarpone, berries and syrup is delicious, the freshly squeezed orange juice is just that (although again, a small portion for a not so small price). I'd love to see a competitor inject a bit of reality into the prices but for the meantime, will continue visiting for a Sunday morning sugar fix!

Had lunch here recently and was very dissapointed with the food. The chicken and avocado 'toasted' panini was soggy, had only one tiny sliver of avocado and most annoyingly the few salad leaves served on the side were old and well on the way to being rotten. On top of this the soup was way too salty and had a strong flavour of stock cube. This has to be the most tasteless and worst value for money lunch I've had for a while.

As I work nearby have been here for lunch a few times. It is always full and has a nice atmosphere and looks great. However the food lets it down. Sandwiches & salads are poor, soup is so so, sometimes awful. Desserts and coffee are passable. Everything is completely over priced. I have seen other people order breakfast and I must admit these do look good. My recommendation would be only go there if you are looking for a bacon sandwich. Don't bother for anything else!

Now a staple in Dun Laoghaire and very popular. You can't get into the place on a Sunday morning; their breakfasts are very popular (& large). I believe that the Wednesday Polish evening is a big hit with our large Eastern European population out here; however I have one big problem with the place - it's pricing strategy is way out. A croissant with a bit of cheese & one rasher with a coffee was astronomical (over €10 if I'm not mistaken). There are cheaper places to go for the above not far away.

Very expensive for what you are getting. Now food is good, service is good considering they are always packed at lunchtime. Not my favourite place to eat in Dun Laoghaire, not a great atmosphere and as I mentioned earlier very expensive.

We went there for the 'Polish night'. The food had a charming home cooked feel yet it was presented with a distinct sense of style. I can't claim to have thoroughly enjoyed my meal but it was good food and had some interesting flavours and layers - food was wrapped in cabbage leaves, bacon, and pancakes with some fantastically flavoursome gravy. (updating review...) This place is now a favourite for lunch in Dun Laoghaire - where the choice is limited if you dont want a bagel. I had a soup here which was a huuuuuge bowl but very good and my friend had an open sandwich which looked fantastic too. We shared a dessert (in retrospect, a bad idea... still feel a little sick!!). It was a chocolate cake, delicious but waaay too filling, even though we shared it! The other desserts looked fantastic too. The menu is packed with interesting options that I cant wait to try and THE FOOD COMES SO FAST! I was shocked. loved it :)

I really enjoy going here and it's become a bit of a Saturday lunch favourite. Service can be a little hit and miss, but food comes out quickly and I've liked everything I've tried on the menu (the Chicken and Irish Brie wrap and Eggs Benedict are particularly good).

Good place to sit and relax, with friends or solo with a book or newspaper. Been here several times in the past year with a friend of mine. We often order a massive crème cheese bagel with bacon, which is enough for two people. They have a variety of salads, sandwiches, soups, bagel and breads. Catering for breakfast, lunch, afternoon breaks and dinner, it's great! The coffee is wonderful, unlike most places where dark liquid resembling dirty dishwater is served as coffee. The mochas are really creamy and delicious! They serve a variety of teas also, green, peppermint, earl grey and breakfast. I always leave there hyped up on great coffee and full of great tasty satisfying food. If you're in Dun Laoghaire I'd recommend you give it a go! They also have amazing chocolate and hazelnut muffins and raspberry scones to die for!

The Thai Chicken Soup was outstanding. More than I even wanted. I would say a full chicken breast was in there! The only thing was I could taste the green Thai curry paste throughout the dish. It was all right to begin with, but by half way through I could not longer stand the taste. Some will ask what did I expect, but I have had curry soups that can be better? A Bacon sandwich hardly high cuisine, but it was what I felt like. Two pieces of toast arrived, not buttered or sliced, with two pieces of bacon in the middle. Probably meant to be fashionable, not appreciated for 5 Euro. 7up was overpriced like everywhere else nowadays. Interior is impressive. Open plan kitchen is hot at the moment. Service was not friendly but extremely efficient. If I were to open a small cafe/diner I would certainly do a lot of research in this place.

Have been here twice with friends for lunch. The first time I got the Thai chicken noodle soup. Maybe I was unlucky but it was awful. It was just like a bowl of oily water with some noodles thrown in. The slice of brown bread I got with it was good though! The second time I went I had a large salad - which was ok. However my friend had soup and bread and the bread was stale. She had to wait ages for it to be replaced. Also we ordered water at the start and then had to ask twice more before we got it! I don't think I'll be going back here again. I think the service leaves a lot to be desired and the food is not good value.

Anyone who has the chance should make it their business to try the three-course Polish dinners served at Harry's on Friday and Saturdays from seven to ten (Currently on a hiatus but starting again in July). Authentic Polish food is served by, well, authentic Poles. Harry's passes perhaps the most rigorous of tests, in that anyone Polish who has eaten there has given it the thumbs up as serving the real deal. Two menus are alternated, but staples like Dumplings, Croquettes stuffed with sour cabbage and meat, Meatballs in cabbage and Beef Ghoulash are all offered. While Harry's doesn’t serve alcohol themselves, you can bring along your own wine. Be warned, the desert portions are absolutely huge, and the waitress will probably exclusively recommend the one that she made for you to try.

I love this place with its cosmopolitan clientele and unusual menu. I haven't tried the Dinner menu yet as it sounds rather bland and I love spicy food, but friends say it's excellent value. Breakfast and lunch are the best in my area, tasty gourmet specials, delicious soups, and the desserts are among the best I've ever tasted. My favourite is the baked cheesecake, served with fresh blueberries and cream. Wonderful coffee. Casual friendly atmosphere and ideal if you're out shopping alone and want somewhere to relax and feel comfortable. I love it!

Finally a great place to sit, relax, chat over (several) tasty coffees and have a tasty casual meal. They even have light milk, which is a rarity in Dublin (we are ex-Sydney, Australia where skinny chino's are the norm). Very drinkable coffee (unusual for Dublin) and good food. Feel like we've found our very own 'Central Perk' where friends meet to chat and have a coffee. The other great thing is they've at least heard of a BABY CHINO!

Harry's is a cafe/diner with a fresh feel to it. The decor is unique, e.g. using the cylindrical barrels inside washing machines as lights, etc., and there's certainly an element of fun about it. The place is always packed on weekends, so it can be a struggle to get a table with a big group of you. The wait is never too extreme though. In summer, the major disadvantage is the place turns into a sweatbox on warm days! The food is mixed in quality, the eggs Benedict being a favourite as are the smoothies. Simple things such as a sandwich do come out a little bare in comparison. Finally, I don't like the coffee. The tiramisu range of coffee leaves a bitter taste for me, so I wish they'd change that. I recommend it for breakfast rather than lunch.

I would have to say Harry’s Cafe Bar is the best place for a good Irish breakfast in Dun Laoghaire. Food is excellent quality and always served to perfection. The only negative thing about Harry's is the size of the cafe, it could do with being a bit bigger.
