Bistro Martello is located in the basement of a small house on the Dun Laoghaire seafront. The dining room isn’t large but it was packed with people who were obviously enjoying themselves when we visited for dinner on Saturday night. Tables are fitted tight together, but not in such a way that you feel that others are too close. In any case, it’s the food that counts and everything that came out of the kitchen was good to eat. Starters included sautéed kidneys in a cream and mustard sauce that was very tasteful, especially when mopped up with the good bread that was provided. The other starters were done well without rising to any great heights. The nightly specials included game pie, just the job for a bitter night, and proved to be both filling and tasty. Other mains included a nice halibut. Desserts included a toothsome brownie and some excellent bread and butter pudding. We had a nice Chilean cabernet. Coffees round out the evening and the bill for four was EUR152. All in all, good value for good food in a place that deserves support. On a fashion note, some might not care for the way that the young and cheerful male waiters who display their choice of underwear to all and sundry by wearing their trousers at half-mast. Knowing that one waiter prefers patterned undershorts while others prefer plain could detract from the food. Although I’m sure it is comfortable, it’s a tad unprofessional but evident of the friendly nature of the place, similar to the way that they leave blankets on the chairs outside for smokers to use when they take their nicotine breaks.

Ate here as a party of 4 on a Sunday evening. We all enjoyed our food, it was cooked to high standard and there is a decent selection. Service was fine too. Our only minor complant was that we were the only people in the restaurant on this evening which is obviously not the staffs fault but it can make you feel a bit uncomfortable and it lacked any atmosphere. I'd recommend this place to all

Having been a couple of weeks before with our Menupages deal and being well impressed we decided to return for the Christmas lunch menu with our friends. We were in before any of the 'office party' folk so we were well looked after. Two of us enjoyed the pigeon breast salad and the soup was a winner with my friend. Main courses were excellent though the stuffing was left off my husband's plate but when he asked about it they did bring him some to try and explained how it had been left off. Game pie was enjoyed by two of us and everyone was very pleased with all that was on offer. It was great value and we will return!

got a menupage voucher as a present and was more than surprised at the choice of food and even though the restaurant was packed with a 40th birthday party there was plenty of room around our table and the service was excellent. would highly recommend it and it got me onto menupages. cant wait to go there again.

Dined here on the menupages deal which was great value all inclusive, though we did opt for a wine other than the housewine so we paid the different (€4 or €5 I think). We arrived ten minutes late but our table was not yet ready so we stood around waiting for another 10/15 mins, it wouldn't normally bother me that this would happen as sometimes these things are out of the restaurants control but while we waited another group came in and their table was not yet ready either. They were seated at another table that belonged to a big party not due to arrive yet so they could have a drink and peruse the menu. We were left standing by the door (though they did offer us a drink - we didn't accept as there was a bottle of wine included with our meal). Anyway, none of that was a particularly big deal, but the fact that it was more than one table delayed would make me question how well managed it is. Also while we tried to hang around discreetly, the waiter pointed over at the table that was to be ours twice to update us on whether the people at it were drinking coffees/paying the bill which was obviously noticed by the people at the table which I would think could well have made them feel quite rushed and uncomfortable. Once we were in though, the food was absolutely gorgeous and the staff were very attentive. I would definitely return.

Visited Bistro Martello on Saturday night. We got a table for 2 last minute. The restaurant was quite busy but we were given a great table and the service was attentive and friendly. Everything from start to finish was brilliant. We had crab claws for starters which were fresh in that day and tasted excellent. For mains, I opted for the steak which was cooked perfectly and tasted brilliant. Value for money was 10 out of 10 with everything surpassing my expectations. Will be back for more.

Had a meal for two on a menu pages deal last night. We have had meals here before and my wife and her girl friends have had diner on several occasions and have always been happy with the food and service. On this trip we had a great 3 course meal and a nice bottle of white. Service from the waiter was attentive and friendly and slight changes to the menu order were looked after with no fuss. Both toilets were clean and fresh as well. Will eat here again and we would recommend it to all seeking good food at reasonable prices. Haymur

Delicious food, cosy restaurant & friendly. Very impressed by food - such as haddock tart, veal and tarte tatin - very tasty honest food with nice ingredients, thoughtfully prepared and presented. Excellent value menu with lots of variety. Very happy with my experience. This was my first visit but will definitely go back.

Best restaurant experience to date. The food was exquisite and easy on th wallet too, they offer an early bird all evening(€23.00 for a 2 course and €26.00 for a three course) and an A La Carte with a fantastic range of delicious dishes. The staff were fantastic and the atmosphere was perfect for a saturday night. I'de recommend it to all my friends.

Came here one night during the summer on a lovely evening for the early bird and discovered they had an All Evening menu for €23 for two courses . They accommodated us easily as it was early and gave us a lovely window table. Food was really good though Fresh Mussels, served in cream, white wine, chilli and garlic and for mains we opted for the Fresh Dublin Bay Prawns sautéed in garlic butter which were €4.50 extra. Well worth it. Service was excellent and they brought fresh break and fequents refills of water.

Staff very friendly and welcoming and not overly formal so made us feel relaxed. Food was brought out quickly and cooked perfectly. We both had the chicken. Portion sizes are good. It's a bit expensive but totally worth it if you enjoy brasserie style cuisine. I will definitely come back.

I ate here With my partner & Family who have been a few Times, and Loved it .The Locaction is great Parking available opposite the restaurant ,,There is a Lovely view from the Front Tables . Upon Arrival it is really nice to be greeted by the Smiling Staff !,obviously under pressure as every table was full, but Still ,We got attentive service with an obviously happy staff its starts the night right ,,The Pricing special is Fab for about €25 euro for 3 courses ,,there were delays, but is was completely full so you must expect the service to be slower than normal ,The trick is not ignoring the customer, Our waitress brought extra Bread and apologised for the delay ,so easy to do ! even better from our Charming Attentive Waitress ..,Most people dont mind a delay but being igonored is the worse scenario . The starters were just excellent, Calamri perfectly cooked with light thin batter ,Mussels were lovely Sauce wonderfull full of flavour but slightly over salted ,The Kidney starter equally lived up to scratch .We had ,Hake ,Dublin Bray Prawns and Chicken with spinach and herb ,All were Moist, Cooked Perfectly,Flavoured and with Sauaces and side orders full of surprises. ,The Simple but Rare Really Fresh Prawns with wondefull Garlic Butter & Parsley were bread dippingly additive everybody Tried them, and agreed ,,Magic .. We had White and Red wines and finished with simple Merangue & strawberry Desert and Bread and Butter Pudding All were Exceptionally great .. Only negative is the Red Wine list is small and not broad enough in Variety and Price ..Overall this was a wonderfull dining Experience and great Value ,Great Menu Perfectly Cooked wondefull Tasty Food Served with A smile ,Bravo ,No wonder they are so busy It IS truely well Earned , We Will be back ,,,

Visited here with four friends for the Early Bird menu and we were all very pleased with the value and quality of the food. The calamari starter was particularly popular. The atmosphere was relaxed and the background music was noticable simply because it was a nice selection and not too intrusive. The service was efficient and perhaps the only drawback was surprisingly that it was too attentive, personal and chatty - which was a bit of a distraction. If we had been regulars it would have been understandable but we all felt it was a bit overdone for a first visit. We would still be happy to return and perhaps just switch off a bit. Handy location with (usually) parking available across the road.

I visited Bistro Martello on a Saturday evening at 7 pm having booked it some days before. The restaurant was almost empty when we arrived but within 30 minutes it was almost full and visitors were being turned away, Portions were quite small but very tasty. My wife had hake and I had a steak and both were excellent. My son had the seafood stew and it was good whilst my daughter had a double starter as a main as she is vegetarian and the choice for her is severly limited as between the starters and main courses together there is only two options. It was an OK experience but not wonderful as our table's location was in the middle close to the door. The overall experience was better than some but not exceptional. I will probably not return as there are other restaurants with a better atmosphere and price level for what was delivered.

Last 4th January we had a most memorable evening in the Bistro Martello , in Dun Laoire. It was so enjoyable for the whole family, quiet, no hustle and bustle, prompt, friendly, informative service by the manager/owner. The food was well presented and cooked very well ; trout was a copious portion as were the steak and pork. Great Caesar salads and the ever popular brownie and apple tart to finish. Overall a real winner, a great family celebration. We all look forward to returning very soon.

This is probably our favourite restaurant in the Dun Laoghaire area. The food is always lovely - offering plenty of choice and served piping hot and always living up to its description on the menu. On this occasion, I had the fish pie, which was filled with a variety of fish and the flavours blended well. My partner had a steak - definitely always a winner in this restaurant and the chef obviously knows his meat as invariably the steaks are melt in the mouth tender. The friendly, family atmosphere here is welcoming and the staff are a mixture of family and young friends - really nice. Location is also good, close to the seafront carpark and a haven on a cold winter's evening - and also on a balmy summer's evening after a walk on the pier.

By far one of my favorite bistros in Dublin. I have been there 3 times in the past 4 months and every time I had a great experience. €25 for a 3 course deliciously cooked dinner, great service (extremely friendly manager-cant remember his name) and a nice relaxed atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a good meal at a very decent price.

I went to Martello twice this month, but this review only refers to last Sunday. I went with my elderly father and my young daughter. They have a very good value 3 courses for €20 deal for Sunday lunch. My father had pate, I had aubergine and goat's cheese tart and my daughter had carrot and coriander soup to start. Even though they say they cater for children, please be aware that they don't have a specific kids menu - this is fine for me but it mightn't be for others. My starter was lovely and the soup really was fantastic. For mains, I had a filo parcel of cod and crabmeat which, although I ate it, did disappoint. My father had chicken with spinach and cheese which went down a treat. My daughter demolished a plate of deep fried squid with chunky chips - I was beginning to think she had made better choices than me!!!! I am not a dessert person, so I can't get excited about them. Very good value all round - lovely family feel to the place. It really is good to have an honest restaurant like this in Dun Laoghaire.

Still as good as our last visit, great atmosphere and very friendly and attentive staff. The manager visits all the tables, plenty of chat and a great atmosphere overall. The fish and shellfish are fresh and the portion of prawns provencale I received I thought was very generous. The bread is homemade and arrived warm to the table. Great to find it busy and as good as the last time.

Friends heard about the restaurant and the great food. Well we were not at all disappointed. The food was excellent and not skimpy portions. We had 3 bottles of good value wine and asked for 1 more glass of Rose. Initially we were told it was only available by the glass and then a bottle appeared to provide the glass of rose requested. The waitress was thinking on her feet. Great staff who didn't mind at all us being the last to leave. We will be back again.

First time to this restaurant. Would and will recommend to friends and family and all who read this. We had pate and special hot prawn dish (3.50 extra), The pate, while delicious was served in tiny bowl and left one longing for more. The hot prawn dish was scrumptious. We went for the special pan fried cod served with stir fried vegetables (3.50 extra) and the Lamb. Once again both were delicious, but could have done with more fresh cod and less pasta. Look forward to going again.

I've had the pleasure of eating at the Martello 3 times now and found it to be a very pleasant experience. The service is exeptional and very friendly. The last time was a little dissapointing though ,as I ordered the duck special...which wasn't very special...just a very large half duck and very bland. Despite this, and based on the previous 2 occasions I wil return to The Martello again.

Had dinner here Saturday evening around 6pm. We were first people in the restaurant which was a bit daunting but the waiter (owner) was very open & chatty, putting us at ease, while at the same time leaving us in peace to enjoy our meal. The menu read really well with lots of varied choices eg game pie, venison, roast pork belly & all on the set menu. I had chicken liver pate for starter while my husband had the Smoked Haddock Tartlet. Pate was scrummy, Hubby loved the tartlet but I found it lacking in taste & balance. The mains were seafood stew & game pie respectively. The stew was deliciously but more of a mussel pie than fish pie. The game pie was fine but lacked in meat & relied more on vegetable to fill it up. It was served on a plate but would have benefited from a pie dish or bowl shaped dish. Deserts were fine but not memorable. Hot chocolate was good, nice & hot (which is often something restarants overlook – its HOT chocolate, not warm chocolate).

We ate here as we had heard only good things, and i must say it lived up to all our expectations. Bistro Martello has a great atmosphere relaxed and you do not feel rushed in any way. The staff and owners are very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent. we went for the all night menu, 3 courses for €25 and it was over and above what i expected, they have an excellent range of seafood dishes, but as one of our party doesnt eat seafood she did not feel limited at all, as they also offer meat dishes. i would highly reccommend this restaurant serivce and food lived up to everything i have heard from friends and collegues.

Starters of Pate and Kidneys were good ..with the kidneys winning on flavour and a nice sauce and my partner enjoyed her pate which had a nice flavour. For mains I had Moroccon chicken tagine which was again tasty, nicely spiced but the chicken was a bit dry even in the sauce. My partner had Cod & Chips with mushy peas which was enjoyable. We have been here a couple of times and enjoyed our visit each time. It seems to have a good clientel of regular customers and the staff are friendly and attentive and the location is good.

Ate here because of the good reviews, nice location at sea front and the advertised early bird special (which seems to run all night every night, there is no al la carte). The atmosphere was a little dead, but it was a weekday night and in these recessionary times, that is acceptable, plus the decor and lighting are inviting. The staff we quite lovely, and efficient at their work. The starters were average, the kidney was not cooked to perfection but acceptable, the chiken liver pate was tasty but the toast was cold and the whole starter lacked any zing. The clear winner in the appetizer stakes was the mushroom, delicious! Perhaps the goats cheese is good too but we missed out on that. Please be aware that NONE of the mains come with vegetables, so these will be extra, also the majority of the mains incur a supplement charge from €3 upwards. Members of the party who ordered the salmon were very dissappointed to be served a plate with literally just the salmon and plain rice. Barely any garnish. So if you are buying a supplemented meal, and would like veg, the price is actually over €30 before drinks for the four course. Stilll good value, but hidden costs! The steak was acceptable but I have had much better, it was unevenly cooked sadly. There is not a full bar, and miller was the only beer available on the night. For desert, lemon tart was very pleasant, meringue was given a big thumbs up and the apple tatin was passable but was accompanied by very good ice cream. Overall this restaurant is pleasant and good value, but the food is just slightly lacking in taste. Fine for a casual meal but not if you are planning something special.

Stopped in here for a roseymantic dinner by the sea a few weeks back and left very happy. The all-night menu is great value at €25 for 2 courses and the food itself is superb. Pates and pea soup for starters were delicious and my seafood stew main was packed with fresh muscles, salmon and prawns (and served with a side of some really really great garlic bread). Service was friendly and quick and the small restaurant itself was bustling with diners (though we were the youngest people there by a good 30 years!). Bistro Martello is a fab option and I can't wait to go back for some more of that amazing stew!

Four of us went to Bistro Martello last night, We opted for the 22.00 euro special menu. It was one of the best value – good Food dining experiences I have had in Dublin for a long time. The Staff were professional and courteous. The starters we had were Saute Of Lambs Kidneys, Sherry, Shallot, Thyme And Cream, Whole Portabello Mushroom, Filled With Smoked Haddock And Topped With Melted Cheddar and a really good pate. We followed this with two Fresh Dublin Bay Prawns, Sautéed In Garlic Butter (Supplement of 4.50 euro) Crispy Fresh Cod And Homemade Chips, Mushy Peas And Tartare Sauce and one person had Pan Fried Breast Of Chicken Stuffed With Feta Cheese, We washed this down with 2 bottles of wine and finished off with coffees. The Bill came to a very pleasant 150.00 euro (including tip) and to me represented very good value for money when the quality is taken into account. We all agreed we would go back

Myself and my husband had a great night at this little gem of a restaurant. For starters I had the crispy squid, while my husband had the portobello mushroom, filled with smoked haddock, both dishes were lovely. For our main course we both had the Moroccan chicken cous cous, superbly cooked. My husband is a big fan of cous cous and he was not disappointed. No room for dessert but we had a very enjoyable evening. Staff were friendly and atmosphere was lively. Look forward to returning again soon

Not the most exciting dining venue but worth a try if in the locality. For starters Mr. Mona had the Lambs Kidneys which he assured me were splendid. I chose the Portobello mushroom stuffed with haddock and topped with melted cheese, nice but very salty and I don't think this was due to the fish. For mains my gentleman had a fish stew in a tomato sauce, the contents of which were varied and fresh. He was satisfied. I went for the Dublin Bay Prawns in garlic butter - utter disappointment. The prawns were somewhat tastless and swimming in a sea of garlic butter, which I felt was an effort to conceal the flavourless prawns. The plain bed of mash on the side of the plate was about as thrilling as this dish got. For dessert we shared the upside down apple pie which was delightful. The house red we decided on was scrumptous and great value. When we visited, there was only one other table of four dining but then again it was a cold, damp Monday evening in recessionary times. The staff were friendly and attentive but the lack of atmosphere and character of the surrounds all attributed to a mediocre experience.

Went there with my boyfriend and his mum and had an amazing time. The service and atmosphere was great. The waiter serving our table was funny and very helpful, accommodating our peculiar appetite on the night. The food was nice, though menu was bare bones - typical of a bistro. Expect the vast majority of dishes to be cream or butter based. Overall a good experience.

The early bird was available all evening and was excellent value, especially as it seemed to contain the majority of dishes on the regular menu. Pan-fried cod on rosti was delicious. Definitely worth a return visit.

We went for the early bird special incl house wine for 65eur. The food was fairly average to be honest, the deserts by far the best course. The starters we felt we could have made ourselves at home, the mains weren't anything special either. The service was very good though, and the house wine really tasty. I dont know if I'd rush back but it was certainly good value if you not looking for anything too special food wise.

Smashing spot. My partner and I and another couple went for an early bird last Sat and had a lovely time. Food was really lovely, service, location all perfect, great value for money. Will definitely go back again, and again. Well done.

My BF and I went to this little gem of a place during the week and we found it to be absolutely gorgeous....the place had a romantic feel to it. The lady (owner) was nice and chatty but not over bearing. When we were choosing our food she even suggested on how we could save on our bill, even though we were the only ones in the place at the time. The food was mouth watering and I would definitely go back!!

I had pased this place so many times, even in previous guises, but had never stopped and eaten! I don't know why as it always caught my eye. So time to try it. I like it! Nice cosy friendly place with smiling welcome and attentive service. It can be a bit tight with not a lot of surplus room to spare. The restaurant has a small bar to the right as you enter and it is quite dark/cosy. Music I think is on a Thursday(??). The lady(owner??) was really helpful and charming to us, the odd couple! So named by me as my Gf is less than half my age?! Anyway we look great together. The food was really good. Not gourmet, not Michelin but well planned and well cooked. I had Kidneys and the pork belly....both excellent. the kidneys were particularily good. My Gf had the caesar salad and the chicken...again o faults. It is great value for the early bird and I will be back soon.

Went here on a Thursday night & they catered for a party of 10 of us. Myself & another went for the soup, which was potato & leek, which unfortunately for us, seemed to be from a packet & very salty. The rest of the group went for the Portobello Mushroom & one went for the goats chesse dish, which seemed very strong. Main course went for Pollo Nero, hugh dish & very tasty, couldnt finish it, someone else went for Swordfish which they found good. Dessert was the meringue with cream & strawberies, 25 quid a head, with a few 4 euro supplements thrown in and some wine, very reasonable & would defo recommned it.

Went for the early bird here on a Monday night. The menu has lots of choice with about 7 or 8 starters and the same again for the mains. I had the portobello mushroom starter and my partner had the goats cheese tart, both of which were very good. For mains, I had the cod and basil mash which was really delicious and my partner had the Chicken with pasta, which was equally good tasting but poorly presented. The starter and mains were so good we couldn't resist dessert so we had bread & butter pudding and meringue. The 3 course early bird is €25 so its reasonable value and well worth a visit.

We went on a Sunday evening for an 8pm booking and it was nice and quiet....and pouring rain outside!!!! Starters were good although my dublin bay prawns had a little of dublin bay still in them as the meat was a little gritty. Quite tasty though. My wifes warm goats cheese tart was very nice. The sirloin main was better than I've had in some dearer restaurants and it was cooked correctly. The swordfish main was a bit bland although we did ask for the sauce on the side. Staff were great and if you wanted it they were full of chat or they would leave you to your own devices... €116 for 2 starters, mains, desserts and a bottle of wine. Not too shabby!!

Had lunch here today(first sunday open for lunch). The menu was very reasonably priced, the portions adequate and the food was of a very high standard, not surprising as the chef is ex Bistro Vino. The staff were most obliging and i've already booked for next sunday.

Went to this place loads of times when if was in different ownership and the food was good, though the place was a bit sterile. I'd read good reviews on this site and decided to give it a go last night. Different vibe with paintings for sale and funky music. However we were seen to a table for two that reminded me of economy seats on a plane. We asked to be moved to a larger table (as there were ample free on a Thursday) and the waiter looked a bit put out. Anyway, I'd the started of prawns in garlic; maybe 10 small prawns in garlic butter for €11 euro. Both of us had the fish of the day that was Dover Sole on the bone (€32)that was ok but not memorable. I'll go again as it's down the road and because the early bird does seem much better value.

I don't normally like music being played in restaurants but the music in the Martello is refreshingly eclectic and adds to the lovely atmosphere in this seafront eatery. The owner, Collette, was on hand for convivial chat and was helping out the other 3 very friendly staff. My crab bisque was delicate with just the right amount of cognac and my lamb shank was so tender that I suspect it had been braised for over a day. My partner's goat’s cheese parcel was also recommended. She hesitated on the Thai curry as she generally has a rule not to eat curries' in anything other than restaurants that specialise in them. She was glad that she decided to overrule herself and was rewarded with a spicy gem. No desserts were needed, but two bottles of wine did happen along and the meal without tip was €90. Amazing value.

What a fabulous meal! After reading the many reviews praising this restaurant, I just had to go to see what I was missing. And I am so glad that I did. We went yesterday evening for the Early Bird and I don't believe I have ever had such value for money in this city! I had a divine Avocado Salad but I just had to taste his field mushrooms with blue cheese & bacon. Delicious!!! The Chicken Pepperonata was the best and my boyfriend was delighted with his Sirloin Steak which according to him was cooked to perfection. We had homemade ice cream & coffee - all for €25!!! We will definitely be back. Thanks to the staff for ensuring we enjoyed our 1st of many visits.

I love the Martello, It's a great place for a lobster Bisque and a lamb shank on a cold wintery evening, or sitting outside sipping a glass of white and nibbling on some cheese during the summer. The atmosphere s lovely, families are welcome and the staff are friendly, efficient and cope well under pressure. A+!!

I love this place. The food is always great and the staff are so warm and friendly. Even though I don't eat here too often, (only because I live in Co. Wicklow)the staff always greet you like a regular. It's getting busier all the time as everyone who comes here seems to return. Wish I lived within walking distance. Don't agree that it's like hotel food or that it's expensive, it's good food at a good price served with a smile...you don't get all three too often. Don't ever change.

Living as close to Martello as we do, I wish it was just a little bit cheaper so that I could pop in more regularly for their prawns in garlic which I crave from time to time. The food here is consistently of a high quality and the staff are very warm. Welcoming and obliging. Its popularity, among a slightly older, well-heeled clientele, is well deserved.

I had the pleasure of dining in the Martello two weeks ago along with my partner and young child. Overall I was more then happy with the service and the food, as was my partner. I wanted a fillet steak but they only had fillet steak medallions on the menu so I asked if it was possible to have a steak instead of medallions, I was told not a problem at all. Music wasn't too loud good atmosphere and the staff members couldn't fault them. 10/10

Myself and my husband were in the Martello on Saturday night for our anniversary. Where do I start, we were met by a lovely young lady and seated promptly at our table at which point fresh homemade bread was put on our table, we then had our starters of Dublin prawns that were absolutely fabulous, followed by a two beautifully presented main courses of steak and sides. The wine list was very varied and reasonable. I can highly recommend this restaurant both for a special occasion or just a lovely meal. Food, service and price excellent.

Having read recent reviews we decided to try out Martello at the weekend. Arriving at 8.30pm we felt so welcome by the young lady who greeted us and showed us to our table. With in two minutes we had bread (which I was told was home made) and water on the table. The bread was fab. The restaurant was full and atmosphere was great. We shared a portion of fresh prawns for a starter, I didn’t fancy the way they were cooked but was offered an alternative to garlic. So tasty. Two fillet steaks later and a bottle of house wine we sat back and enjoyed the buzz of the room. If you want atmosphere, home cooked food and great service this is the place to be. Will be back.

Booked a table by phone for 13 people only to arrive and be told that we would have to sit at two different tables, thus defeating the whole purpose of going out as group, the courtesy of telling us on booking who have been much appreciated. The Martello was not ready for us when we arrived and we all had to stand outside despite arriving slightly later than we had booked for, luckily it was a nice evening. The overall impression from the group was that it was very very expensive for what it was. Won't be back.

Went to the Martello for a mid week early bird. The staff were excellent. I thought the food was a bit plain. It was like a Hotel dinner rather than a restaurant. I enjoyed the evening but don’t think I would return. There are better restaurants in the area.

I was on Martello last w/end. And I could have no complaint about the food and its quality. We shared the mixed starter of grilled shellfish, which was beautiful; I had the black sole, which again was excellent. Perhaps the wine list could have been better, but one can find nice wines on it. The only down side of the evening was how slow was the service, it took us one hour to get our starters, and by the time they arrived, they still hadn’t brought us the butter for the nice bread they served us. There was a delay of 54 min between the starter and the main course. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing, but definitely it is a restaurant for those who don’t mind waiting.

My wife and I visited the Martello restaurant with some friends the other night, it was our first time and we really enjoyed the experience, we were greeted very warmly, enjoyed very well prepared and presented food, nice wine, first class friendly service, pleasant atmosphere and good value for money. Overall a very good night out, one, which we would recommend to everyone. Well Done!!
