I eat here quite regularly as my boyfriend lives close and LOVES the place. I have to say, I'm coming around to his point of view. The food here is good, not amazing but good pub grub. I particularly like the pizzas, they have a really thin base. The burgers, chickena dn beef are both great and they do this great 'pink sauce' for chips! Spicy and tangy! They had a deal on recently for a burger and pint for a tenner. Such good value. Four of us were eating there recently, one pregnant, so the extra oint was given to one of the other lads. The wine menu is good, nice and cheap plus you can buy wine from their off-license. Four of us had main courses, 2 bottles of wine and 5 pints for 80 euro! you defo can't go wrong. The servie is always efficient and really friendly. Great for a relaxed dinner.

went here last wednesday as I was meeting up with some old freind and. I have had some pleasurable experiences here in the past.I was slightly worried when we first arrived as it seemed very quiet. The menu has shrunk drastically since my last visit and we didnt have very much to choose from. But when the food arrived it certainly didnt disappoint! I had a steak which was beautifully cooked, and my friends ordered pizza which were very authentic an generous with toppings. The barman was very friendly and bubbly. His recommendations as to what we were going to drink were recieved greatly I had a beautiful cab sav and one of my freinds tried an unusual beer the barman urged him to try,he described it as " a crackin drop!" a compliment i think!. The barman also told us a few funny stories and made us feel very welcome. We will definitely be returning again soon. Also probably the cleanest pub i have visited in a long time.

Visited last Friday evening to have a drink while waiting for someone, as its very handy for work. Was not impressed by the wine list - only 3 red/white by the glass - Italian/French - no New World. And the barman just laughed when I suggested they could offer a wider choice.. said it wasn't up to him. Service was very average - 2 guys serving the bar, lounge and the off-licence, when they could be bothered to run through to do so..seemed more keen to chat up the groups of ladies. At one stage, little individual plates of what looked like sausages and chips were brought out and given to some customers - but not all. Thought it was a nice touch though, maybe you have to be a "known regular"? Nothing too amazing on the menu, and a couple of blackboard specials, which may have been available for lunch, crossed off. More suited to a lunch venue, which I have had there previously. We went elsewhere for dinner. Did have a look in the off-license and you can buy a bottle of wine to go with your food - there's a corkage charge. Fairly decent selection though - better than the wine list :)

Often eat here for lunch on Fridays. Menu has got a lot smaller which is actually good as sometimes service can be very slow. Would highly recommend the Chicken Tenders which are delicious or the Chicken Cajun Wrap which is also lovely. Good prices and friendly staff. Will be back!

Visited on Saturday afternoon, had a quite drink in the bar which was spotless with a few regulars watching sport. We moved next door to the lounge/restaurant and ordered from the early bird - 2 courses for €14.95. Ceaser salad & wings for starters, both well received. Mains - Pasta dish of the day"Italian Chicken with Mustard". The pasta was a little undercooked for my taste and the sauce was very strong, with a sparse amount of chicken. Himself had the burger, salad & chips. The chips were really good, and the burger also went down a treat. There were quite a few couples eating there, all being served by one waitress who was efficient. Good value for the price. If I'm back in the area I would go again.

Had late lunch here on Monday. Sat at a table outside in the sunshine and had a gorgeous cold bottle of pinot grigio. My partner had delicious chicken & mushrooms in a light and flavoursome cream sauce with tagliatelle. I had tortellini alla bolognese which was also delicious. Both dishes were very generous but we had no trouble in finishing them! Server was lovely and friendly. Great value for money and I will definitely return.

I go to the Avoca most days for lunch because I work in Blackrock. I find the food to be great value for money. I always like to try something new everytime I go in because I find everything so fresh and tasty. If I was to go into detail about how nice the food is I could be here all day. I most like the decor of the lounge, it's very modern and really comfortable. It's very relaxing to go to after work aswell for a few drinks and I always find the staff to be very polite and efficient. In the bar they have a pool table which is great fun when winding down after a long day in work and the drink is cheaper in there too. Probably the cheapest in all of Blackrock i'd say. In the bar I find the atmosphere to be the best because you can tell the staff and the regulars in there have a great camaraderie, always having a laugh and telling jokes. Overall I think the Avoca offers everything for all different types of people. I easily give it 5/5

I go here pretty often, in part because it is one of the few decent restaurants in Blackrock. The ambiance is nice--it is usually dimly lit and has TVs located around the restaurant, which generally have football and rugby games on with the volume off. They also have a big projector screen that they use when good games are on, which is fun. They play music, usually American Top-40 or American pop from the last 15 years or so. The food is the main drawing point of this place, in my opinion. The best of the best is probably the Friday Night BBQ, although I have no idea why they call it BBQ since there is nothing (from an American standpoint) BBQ about it besides that one of them is a cajun chicken sandwich. The BBQ special gets you a burger or sandwich, small salad, chips, and a pint of beer for 10 Euro--this is a big money-saver to me. Especially since a pint of Guinness is about 4,30 Euro, this is a great deal! It helps that the food here is delicious! When I go on Fridays, I get their cajun chicken sandwich with the BBQ special. The sandwich comes with a side of garlic-y cajun mayo and it is just so tasty! The sandwich has a lot of flavor too, even though nothing (other than the cajun seasoning) comes on it. I've made it my regular Friday night place for the past couple weeks. Service, though, is another matter. The service is usually REALLY hit-or-miss. I don't know if it's because I usually am there alone, but the waitress generally ignores me (as in 95% of the time, she doesn't even look in my direction), even though I'm very polite. The guys working the bar are very nice and helpful though, so if service is an issue, just go order from them. Good food, free and fast Wi-Fi, but the (lack of) service drags down the Avoca Bar's score.

I never even knew this place did food but read their 3 courses for €13.95 on menupages and was keen to try it. There isn’t a great selection of starters, soup or Caesar salad, soup never appeals to me when I am eating out and I don’t usually order salads but I must confess this Caesar salad has converted me, it was so tasty. To follow we had the chicken curry which was served with both rice and chips (at no extra cost) and a sirloin steak which was cooked medium rare as ordered and served with onions, mushrooms and pepper sauce. There were no hidden costs here it was a complete dish, not like other places where the main course are served with nothing and sides are charged separately. There is a warm friendly atmosphere in the bar and the food is outstanding value for money and well above your normal pub grub. I would definitely recommend it.

Ate here today just after 4 when the early bird menu started. Myself and my wife both went for the early bird menu where you pick a start and main for €14 which includes tea/coffee at the end. I had the soup of the day which was Tomato & Basil. It wasn't great at the brown bread I got with it wasn't fresh. The soup tasted like they went a bit OTT on the tomatoe puree. My wife had a bacon caesar salad which was delicious. Warm grilled rasher chopped up on top of a caesar salad, delicious. For mains we both had sirloin steak with chips. The steaks were cooked perfectly but unfortunately the pepper sauce was a little strong. It was impossible to taste the steak through it. The service was efficient and they didn't charge any extra for my wife having a Cappuchino instead of a normal coffee at the end. Overall, I think I would go back for the value alone but I would know to take it easy on the pepper sauce next time.

I went here for lunch today and really enjoyed it. I got the goat's cheese tartlet, which was delicious, and my boyfriend got the soup and sandwich deal, which was also delicious and great value. The place was very quiet which was surprising. I'll definitely be coming back, possibly to try out the Friday night BBQ. My only gripe would be that the menu could have a little more originality.

I have been here for lunch on a few occasions. The first time I visited there was a major mix up with my friends and my orders however we have never had any issues with service since. The portions are huge, particulary the soup and sandwich combo which also comes with chips and salad and good value for money. The menu appears to change frequently and there is always plenty of selection.

Avoca have a great new menu. The last time I was here for lunch I wasn’t impressed but I went for lunch during the week and the service and the food were both excellent. They have a new and improved menu which is really extensive and very reasonable. The Cajun chicken wrap is really nice and great value. They also do a soup and sandwich deal and a lunchtime salad deal is also great value. The evening menu looked really nice too- I would definitely recommend it.

Having been quite impressed on my first visit for lunch after the place reopened/was revamped, the next two visits saw a steady downhill trait. The atmosphere is generally reasonably good, and service is usually prompt, with food being delivered quite quickly (a necessity for weekday lunches) - although often a bit neglectful in terms of providing condiments etc. On this occasion i'd to go in search of sauce to put on the chips (which were awful). My colleague's club sandwhich was apparently very poor - dry and tasteless. My own chicken goujons were overdone. The price is quite reasonable, but unless the food quality sees a marked increase I doubt I'd be back.

The avoca is doing a good job with updating it's image. I ate lunch here for the first time last week and was quite pleased. The place is very quiet, there were only 3 other people there at the time, and the surroundings are very comfortable. The selection is quite small, it seems the menu was larger but has been reduced recently, but there is still plenty to choose from. I had a panini, with chips and salad which was just what you'd expect for quick lunch. The salad was actually appetising, unlike most inedible side salads and the meal cost a lot less than in most other places in blackrock. I'd definitely recommend giving the avoca a try!
