Went here on a Friday evening before a Rugby match. We were seated downstairs and have to say it was a little unpleasant and depressing place even with most of the tables full. Staff were professional and friendly. We shared the spring rolls which were probably the worst I've had in a Chinese restaurant, like they had been cooked twice and too long making the pastry too hard and at €7 way to expensive. For mains I had the Chicken in Chilli and garlic sauce (€19) which was grand, nothing special. My friend had the fillet of beef with scallions (€22) which she loved. Adding €7.60 to the bill for fried rice I felt was far too much on top of the high prices charged for the mains. Along with a €25 euro bottle of wine which really should not be more than €18 because it was plonk made an unjust expense for the experience. I won't be going back at these prices.

Went here with 9 work collegues for the new lunch special, and I have to say, we all loved the food. Excellent value, and really high quality food. Very tasty! Going back again tomorrow. It may become the new Friday lunch spot!

This is the place to go for a special night out. It's not cheap, but then you have to pay more for a bit of finesse. The quality of the food is high and the staff are excellent. Great wine list.

Visited midweek with a couple of friends. It was busy but practically deathly silent. The room is very oddly shaped and you definitely feel like you're in a basement. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was of a good standard but nothing special. Over all felt like it was poor value for what we got.

Went on a Friday night for a family birthday. It wasn't too busy, food was nice and tasty. Service was very good. The water they serve is pretty mank, you get a real taste of tap water off it. Other than that, it was a lovely meal and would go back again.

Lovely chinese last night. Started off with salt and chilli prawns to start - a small enough portion, but which were very tasty! For my main I had the house special curry with fried rice & it was very good too - nice and hot & plenty of beef, chicken, duck, pork and prawns! Along with a few glasses of a nice crisp white wine, it made for a lovely meal.

I have to admit that the only time I have been to Kites have been on work lunches and I have thouroughly enjoyed all of them. From the moment you are met at the door and shown to your seat the staff are nothing but polite and helpful and do all they can to ensure that you enjoy your meal and visit. They are quite willing to offer advice on the different ways the dishes are prepared and also happy to vary it a little if so requested. I would highly reccommend a visit to Kites.

4 of us had a wonderful meal at Kites on Sunday night. The food was superb. I had prawns (Schezwan) fabulous... 2 stir friend fillet of beef and a lovely chicken dish (I`ve forgotten which one). Starters, scallops for me, a combination plate for 2 and tempura prawns were all considered wonderful. The staff are unobtrusive but helpful. We Will be back.

Upstairs room great for a group. Twenty people went for lunch and the service was very good. Most of the food looked great, but I was disappointed in my duck - not enough meat and no vegetables at all with the dish. Wine menu good value.

Arrived at 10pm last night looking for a table for two, no reservation, and was immediatly shown to a quiet table away from the other diners which was what I wanted (without being prompted.) The manager poured our wine while our table was waited on by a lovely friendly girl (whom we hardly noticed as food arrived and plates were cleared promptly, but not too promptly.) We shared a yuk sung starter (excellent and substantial portions for one person.) The chicken was succelent and the dish expertly prepared. I neglect to say that the zinfindel (31 euro a bottle) was great with the food. We also shared a prawn dish (cannot remember the name) which was fresh, expertly spiced and we orderd the boiled rice option (perfect.) My impression of this meal last night was my usual impression every time I leave here - the best chineese food and hosts in town. You won't be disappointed and suprisingly, the cost is reasonable when measured against other restaurants of this standard and location. This is a great spot for a christmas party too. I was seated downstairs last night but I remember coming here and enjoying the party some years back.

We had dinner here for an easy inexpensive girly night,we all had starters and main course and a bottle of wine between 4 and the cost of the meal came to 31 euro each (incl. tip). The food here is superb and the staff are brilliant. I have been here a few times in 2008 and it still remain a firm favourite betwwen me and the girlies. Would definately recommend it.

We arrived looking for a table for two with no reservation about 9.30pm. The staff were more than helpful and we were shown to a lovely window table. I have been coming to Kites for a number of years and yet again was not disappointed. Great starters and main dishes of prawns and chicken were top class. If you want to try a fantastic Chinese then go to Kites - no matter how far you have to travel, you will have a lovely night

Went here on Saturday as a foursome; had heard a lot of things about the place over the years and was dying to try it. The place was humming at 9 pm and the decor was very pleasing - however the food was just ok (for me). I'd the tempura king prawns that were ok but a little greasy followed by the steamed sea bass with ginger and spring onions - by the time this was boned it was freezing cold. Th others liked theirs but mainly stayed on usual Irish style Chinese fare. Will go back but first impressions were mixed.

My partner ate at Kites about four years ago on a business trip and had raved about it. We finally got there last Wednesday and it did not disappoint. The service was warm and friendly, and judging from how many customers were greeted by name, they must have a lot of regulars which is a great sign. The food was delicious with not a hint of the dreaded msg. We tried Wan Ton soup, chicken Yuk Sung, chicken in oyster sauce and black peppered beef, all of which was excellent. A nice touch was being offered a complimentary extra helping of rice to finish out the meal - a gesture that costs little, but will be rewarded with, at least, a return visit!

Tried Kite on a random chance walking around Ballsbridge. It was a good restaurant, the food was nice, and couldn't fault the service. It is pretty expensive, and not sure if you are getting what you pay for, they do a few extra things like have gas burners under your main dishes so they don't get cold, but I'm not sure if these little extras justify pretty expensive prices. The starters are really small for an average of €9 so would prob just skip starters next time and have a main, especially seen as items such as boiled rice are €3 extra a pop as well. Is a good choice though if you feel like treating yourself. Recommend if you make a booking that you request to be seated upstairs, the downstairs is a bit dark and cavernous.

Went to Kites a few Fridays ago. We decided to go there as they serve until 11.30 pm and it was getting late. The service is pretty good: i.e. no annoying waiters checking if you are ok 100 times during diner like most chinese restaurants. And the food is yummy. It is slightly expensive but you get what you pay for. Would highly recommend it over other asian restaurants in Ballsbridge.

I like this place, it's ok but I don't think it really lives up to the hype. Yes the food is good, but so it should be for the price they charge. I do like their selection of wines but again I think they are overpriced. I would come back here more often if it wasn't so expensive.

Have eaten here on many occasions and always very good food. Most recently though I found the food not up to its usual standards which when you consider the price I would question its value for money. I think they need to try harder to keep the regulars coming.

Lovely meal here for 8 last Sat night but I found the room (to the left at top of stairs) very noisy. I think the noise level increased dramatically when we arrived but I felt it was incredibly noisy and put me off my dinner. Food was lovely though not enough iceberg lettuce for 2 of us having Yuk Sung. Very nice staff. Yes, beware of clampers outside 24hrs.

Our second visit to Kites was a big disappointment - the hoi sin duck to start was lovely but prawn and beef main courses tasted like cheap take away - gloopy MSG tasteless sauces, one glass of wine and one beer and a bill of over 120 euro left a bad taste we won't be back to try again. My boyfriend and I are here one evening in the run up to Christmas. Kites was recommended as one of the best Chinese restaurants in Dublin and we wouldn't argue! The staff were friendly and attentive, the food was excellent, particularly the aromatic duck. On the expensive side for chinese but worth it.

Ate here on the spur of the moment last week... a very nice restaurant. Eyes were bigger thann our bellies though! We ordered 1 starter (spicy pork pancakes) to share & 2 main courses (Duo Prawn dish & Chicken stir fry). Nearly had to be lifted out by crane!! Food was fantastically tasty but portions are huge! Staff were lovely & friendly. The only downside to a great meal was that I honestly found it hard to sleep that night... do they use MSG and if so was it a little heavy handed? Will defo go back but will ask a little more about ingredients. Also, watch out... you have to pay for on-street parking until 12 midnight outside. Not the restaurants fault, but we did see quite a few cars being clamped at 10.30pm. Now that would ruin your meal!

Was in Kites recently. The best chinese in Dublin as far as I'm concerned. The Aromatic Crispy Duck in pancakes is amazing and the selection of beers and wines is great. The service was friendly and corteous. It's a bit on the pricey side compared to other places and they don't offer discounts for take aways, but the quality of food justifies this.

We ate here as a group of ten girls. A lovely meal spoiled by the attitude of the staff. Our waiter came to us at 8.50p.m and told us he would order our taxi, even though he had'nt been asked to do so. Then while we were waiting on our taxi and four girls had gone in the first cab and the others were in the loo i was asked to wait outside until the taxi arrived! i was disgusted at this attitude and nobody would expect a girl on their own to stand outside. They could not wait to get rid of us and re-set the table for the next sitting. Please note we were not a rowdy bunch of girls, we were having a very quiet meal! Won't be in a hurry to rush back which is a shame as food was good.

I have always liked Kites, but for some reason had not been for a number of years. There was 10 of us going for dinner and I wondered how it would compare to 'the good old days'. I was not disappointed. All 10 of us chose to go for the set dinner, which consisted of Yuk Sung, combination starters, 5 different main courses (2 duck, chicken, fillet beef and prawn) and tea/coffee. Everything, and I mean everything, was excellent and the service was impeccable. We had 5 bottles of (house) wine and 2 extra desserts. The bill, including service, was 110 euro per couple, which we all agreed was superb value for what we got. Can't wait to go back.

I was given a gift voucher for Christmas for Kites and I decided that I would take my daughter there as a special treat. I would have to say we could not fault the food or the service. The only reservation that I would have about Kites is the cost. We each had a starter, main course and a dessert. Three diet cokes between us. Total cost 98 Euro. It is a nice place, but you can certainly get better food, at a lower cost else where

I found the opposite experience to the last two posters. There yesterday for Lunch with colleagues. I'm usually quite wary of Restaurants when you make a large booking around Christmas time. However absolutely no complaints (excepts Desserts and that was only minor, Chinese Restaurant desserts aren't particularly exciting!) However the food was really good, in terms of choice and quality. The staff efficient and friendly. Our group wasn't rushed and they coped with the diverse orders very well. Thai Fish Cakes good as a starter, A wide variety of dishes were had by the gang and everyone was happy. I'd go back again in fact I plan to after the New Year. In my book it's a test of a restaurant if the food is up to standard when they are dealing with large groups and particular during the Holiday Season.

My uncle and I ate here on Saturday. The restaurant is small and the table is small too. There wasn’t enough room to accommodate plates of dishes on the table. Having finished with the starters, main courses arrived within a few minutes. We had little time to digest and enjoy. The food and service was okay but it was quite rushing. Decoration is outdated and atmosphere was lacking. Overall, 2 stars.

It was disgraceful! My Girl friend and I had a night out here. The restaurant does not offer an enjoyable atmosphere, rather we felt a pressurized by their staff. They always kept watching us. More importantly the food is not as good as what some of the reviews said. Disappointed!

This restaurant was recommended by a few friends as the best Chinese in Dublin so we went in one Saturday night. Staff were friendly and the food was very nice, and priced accordingly. Someone else here mentions the layout: it does seem that a redesign could make the place seem a bit more spacious but other than that I'd have nothing negative to say about here.

Absolutely love this restaurant. Have been about 4 times since July. The service is great; the food is brilliant and its not too expensive either. My boyfriend and I got 2 starters 2main courses, a bottle of wine, and two beers for under €100. I will definitely go back again.

Definitely the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to. Staff are so friendly and the food is amazing. The have the most amazing starter which consists of lettuce leaves and a mince sauce-I would go just for this! The portions sizes are perfect, not to big. Sweet and sour chicken is lovely too.

The people I've taken to Kites think it's wonderful. I've been back three times this year solely on the basis of convenience. It remains 'OK' and I would still struggle to class it as 'wonderful'. There is little by way of atmosphere but thankfully no loud music. The Szechuan is too bland to hit the spot for me - but the spicy pork yuk sung starter is fun and the lemon chicken quite 'lemony'!

I ate here not so long ago and the food was lovely. Nicest Chinese around. Staff were very attentive and lovely. Only problem was the layout could have been better. I would definitely go again though.

One of my favourite Chinese restaurants in Dublin for food. Quite pricey but as I live in the general area I have become accustomed to the high prices. The only real problem I have with the place is the layout: Downstairs isn't too bad but upstairs is absolutely dreadful. My advice is to definitely try it out but when booking ask to be seated downstairs.

Fantastic Chinese food but pricey. I’ve never had a meal here that I didn't like. I honestly feel there is better value out there but I suppose, restaurants in Ballsbridge can charge what they like.

The food at Kites is very tasty, and the menu is quite extensive. I have eaten upstairs there many times, generally in a party of four people, and would recommend this as a venue for groups. It can be very noisy and bustling at weekends or anytime there is a major event on in the nearby RDS, as a lot of diners descend in large groups. Whilst this adds greatly to the convivial atmosphere, couples out for a meal may feel a little overwhelmed (it's generally not too busy on week-day evenings though). Like many restaurants around Ballsbridge, Kites has an excellent value lunch menu, with prices rising considerably for an evening meal. The service is attentive and professional.

This was my first visit to Kites - I had heard so much about it for many years, so I was probably expecting too much. The starters came and I had the fillet beef rolls. They were nice but nothing amazing. For main course I had scallops with ginger and spring onion, again they were nice but nothing great. I went with a party of five people and everyone ordered different things and were all quite happy with what they got. The reason I wasn't too impressed was I felt it was overpriced. Having also to buy the rice separately is to me a rip off. The main courses are pricey enough and should come with rice. I feel that restaurants feel sometimes that they can charge what they want once they have a good name. Well in my opinion it was nice but average and overpriced for what we got. I wouldn't be going back as there are so many more restaurants in Dublin to try and overpriced restaurants like this should remember that.

Myself and my husband went to the Rod Stewart concert last week and we went in early to avoid traffic and have dinner before the concert, and Kites it was, service was excellent, it was fast and friendly. Food was delicious especially there fillet of beef Rolls, and we felt it was excellent value for money.

Oh my god, I just loved this place!! Firstly, the service was fantastic, waiters all lovely, especially the headwaiter who was hilarious and so friendly. Really make you feel welcome. Secondly, its so much bigger than it looks from the inside, and so its spaced out nicely, not over-crowded, which I hate! Food was perfect; I had chicken satay for starters which was just so tasty, served on a bed of delicious crispy noodles. Yum. Had chicken curry for main course, could not have been better! And seriously don’t start me on their delicious range of deserts! I’m just hungry thinking about it now!!

Lovely little restaurant for a quiet lunch. The staff were really most pleasant and the food is quite good however I wouldn't say it’s the best Chinese ever! I had the vegetable chow mien and it was bland and a tad on the greasy side. Also we ordered from a set menu which included tea/coffee but they slapped on an extra €2.60 to the bill because my friend had a cappuccino instead of a regular coffee. Wasn’t happy about that, but overall this is definitely a nice place.

Best Chinese Restaurant in Dublin! And if you don't believe me, just look at the other reviews. A perfect mix of tasteful decor, relaxing atmosphere, impeccable service and divinely delicious food, and a great wine list too. My mouth is watering just thinking about this place. If you like Chinese food and you're in Dublin, it would be a crime not to eat here!

Kites provide well above average Chinese food (by Dublin standards anyway) but at a price. The yuk sum for starters is delicious and main courses are served in very ample portions. The surroundings are quite pleasant - crisp linen tablecloths, proper cutlery etc. I have found service to be frosty on occasions, but never actually "technically" bad. If you like Chinese food and need a restaurant that has a little bit more style and grace than usual, Kites will fit the bill. My main reservations would be on price, where despite the standard of cooking, I think they fall short on value.

Went here with party of 8 and really really enjoyed the food. Recommend the duck stuffed with prawns. Staff were very friendly and had to be forced to take the tip! They sat us beside the door and was a little drafty. House white wine is very good.

We used to visit fairly regular but found the quality of the food had declined, we returned two weeks ago and we were pleased to find that everything was back to its excellent best. We are booking again for this weekend and couldn't recommend this Chinese highly enough.

I LOVE this place; from the white linen tablecloths right down to the heavy bone china, when I'm in Kites I feel like I'm really eating out; none of this paper napkin lark here I tell you. The staff are fabulous and the food is even better, you haven't lived until you've eaten their monkfish in blackbean sauce.... Again, it's quite pricey, so bring someone with a big fat wallet, or expect to burn that credit card later on in the month.
