The House 3.0 star review: I have been here a few times recently, and whilst the food is really good, I have found the service less than decent. I have been met with a grunt twice, and the waitress raised her eyes to heaven when I suggested sitting at a table other than the one she initially offered. Orders were taken incorrectly and again, a raising of eyes when I had to point out the errors. On another occasion, I was ignored whilst waiting for a friend and had to ask for menus, coffee and then we had to ask if we could order, we had to ask for coffee after our meal. In a restaurant that gets so much good press, I really feel that the service should match up to the food.

The House 4.0 star review: Wednesday evening at The House is Jazz Night and the first Wednesday of every month features Irish jazz guitar legend Louis Stewart. Fine music accompanied by fine food make this a venue/restaurant to return to again and again - especially on Wednesdays!

The House 5.0 star review: Really nice place. Food is superb quality for how much you are paying. Service is quite good too, but I feel the restuarant is a little cluttered / too packed full of tables to give a seamless service.

Overall, one of the best restuarants in Dublin.

The House 4.5 star review: It was my first time at this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The staff were attentive and professional. The food was delicious and came out in a timely fashion. We shared a cheese plate starter between two of us and it was a great selection of cheeses and pickles and chutney and bread. I had the hake with mash and veg in a mussel and garlic sauce and my partner had Cork rope mussels served with chips. We shared both dishes again because both dishes were so devine we simply wanted a bit from everything! Everything was melt-in-the- mouth good. There was a nice ambience too and the decor with plates, saucers and cups on the wall gives it a homely feel. Overall, a very enjoyable evening. It's easy to find also and near the pier for a nice walk afterwards. We'll definitely be back!

The House 4.0 star review: I really enjoyed my second visit to The House in Howth.

For starters I had squid with mouth watering fruits, it was so fresh and the squid was cooked to perfection - possibly the best I have tasted. For main again I chose seafood and had fried mackerel with sweet potato wedges and a delicious salsa side. It was delicious. My partner had their chicken and apple sausages on mash which also was very tasty. Dessert was the chocolate brownie & vanilla ice cream to share.

The staff were attentive and friendly and all in all a very pleasant dining experience, they also have a great jazz band on Wednesday nights not to be missed.

The House 5.0 star review: We popped in here after walking the hill of Howth. It was about 6.30pm and we just wanted a drink really and we asked if this would be ok. The staff member was very welcoming. We looked at the menu and decided to have the strawberries with vanilla cream and shortbread. The shortbread was absolutely delicious and I would go all the way back just for this!! We also had freshly squeezed orange juice which was just what we needed. Hopefully some time we will get back for a main course!

The House 3.0 star review: We decided to head to The House for a birthday celebration with my family (four people). I've had coffee and scones here before and both have been excellent so I was eager to try out The House for dinner. For starters the four of us shared a charcuterie and cheeseboard and a small antipasti plate. The meats were nice (cured lamb, beef and ham I think) and there was a nice variety of smoked fish. Actually, the McConnells smoked salmon deserves a special mention - it was amazing. The three cheeses were equally pleasant but nothing spectacular and the accompanying bread was a little stale. For mains, two of us had the five-spiced duck with a sweet-potato mash and a fig gravy and the other two had the burger with cheddar, roasted tomato, aioli, fries and onion rings. The duck wasn't great - although it was cooked fine, the slightly sweet spice rub combined with the sweet potato mash and the sweet fig gravy was way too much sugar for a main course and really let the dish down. The burgers were fine but were just burgers, nothing particularly amazing. The red wine, an Azamor 2006, was outstanding we also had a Corte Giara Pinot Grigio. For dessert we shared a pavlova and had a few Illy coffees. The bill came to c. €180 all in. To be honest, while the food was OK and the service was fine, the value for money wasn't great, €22 for a unpleasantly sweet duck breast and €19 for a glorified burger and chips is a bit much, I don't think I'll be returning for dinner.

The House 4.0 star review: I come to The House fairly frequently, usually at the weekend because I love their brunch menu. The roast in roll is nearly always perfect, particularly when it's roast beef or roast pork. It's served with chips, salad and usually a gravy or sauce of some kind. Really filling and yummy, can't beat it!

I also love their steak sandwich because the onion rings are to die for! My boyfriend loves their rib-eye steak with an egg on top and chips. Their homemade beans on toast is on sour dough with gubeen melted over it. Only downside is that it's way too big, enough for two people! The fry is also top notch. The only meal I've ever had here and disliked was the chicken sausages with mash which had a really bitter sauce with them.

As you can see I come here a lot! The coffee is Illy and done properly and the deck at the back is great for sunny al fresco eating. Downsides are that if it's quiet it can feel really dead with no atmosphere and the service seems to always be slow with regard to getting/paying the bill. Otherwise, I love it!

The House 4.0 star review: On entrance coming into the front door of the house didn’t feel very welcoming but in the restaurant itself was very cosy with low light settings and very Wednesday there’s a jazz band which adds to the atmosphere. The Early Bird between 6-7pm is very reasonable in price and the menu had a wide variety of dishes that suits all. I ordered the smoked fish dish for starters and the grilled venison for the main, both were delicious and perfect portion sizes. Finished off with the orange polenta cake with chocolate ice-cream was delightful. The only downfall was that the wine was quite expensive for the quality of wine and service at the end of meal was poor with a waiting time of 20mins to get the staffs attention to ask for the bill and other 10mins to receive the bill was slow & frustrating but taking in consideration that it did get busy and there was only 2 floor staff serving the whole restaurant lowered the quality of service.
