having made my booking over the phone i wouldnt need to be off the table 'not to worry' i was told , starters mains were delish , just before ordering dessert we were told we had to leave as the table next 'sitting' was here , i asked to speak to manager/owner , were i reminded him of our conversation over the phone which he agreed, then went on to tell me 'he wouldn't try to keep people happy anymore' as the other people were awaiting the table , and he was getting hassle he told us in a snappy manner to stay if we wanted , why would we give our hard earned money to a restaurant who 'needed' us off a table( we would have moved no problem if we had of been given some notice or asked to go downstairs and have our desserts and coffee) hence to say we didnt order desserts nor did we leave a tip , it is a recession and any business is good business..... we went to findlaters and had our desserts and coffee, there was 8 on our table and i have to say its our first time in the new location we always loved it ... but on principle we certainly wont be back.

My apologies to you about the experience you had. It is unfortunate it worked out the way it did. Being a regular customer you will understand that we value our customers and the unfortunate incident is thankfully a very rare occurrence. You are all invited back to El Paso where you will be given a complimentary margarita after your meal. I hope you will return. Apologies again for upsetting you and your friends. Harry

I was delighted when I heard El Paso reopened as it was my favourite restaurant when I was younger. The set-up of it is much more authentically tex-mex than it was in the original location after it was done up. When I was there I got the early bird special which was great value for a starter and main course, however I would be hesitant to go during peak times because the menu seemed a little pricey. The only thing it loses marks on is atmosphere; when I think of a tex-mex restaurant I expect it to be colourful and with a fun, loud atmosphere with mexican music playing. It had the music, and it was loud, but for the wrong reasons; every other table in the restaurant had kids at them; screaming kids crying because their food is too hot, or because they couldn't get chicken nuggets; sort of took away from the romance of the experience. Otherwise my experience there was ideal.

Perhaps I shouldn't have come back so soon. Food was great again I love the Chicken Wings, Sizzling Fajitas were a winner for my partner, although my ChimiChanga was by no means hot, it was warm. Service was poor tonight I had to ask for the mains to be brought out and our starters plates were only collected at that time. After the experience the last time we decided to have the dessert again. After waiting again for a long period we cancelled and asked for the bill and left with 3 staff between themselves at the counter chatting. It was by no means busy at this time and there were 4 floor staff on duty. Pity.

Response:
Thank you for your comment all comments are taken seriously here. I am delighted you enjoyed your food , it is a pity about your Chimichanga we would have changed it, if it was brought to our attention. As for the service we had a very busy night that night. We served over 120 diners in the space of 3 hours, that is by no means an excuse, My apologies for that, again... If this was brought to our attention we would have been able to do something for you. Anyway by the sounds of it I hope you will be back again, if that is the case, please make yourself known to myself Harry or Kuba and we "look after you". Thanks for taking time out to comment. 1st visit to the NEW "El Paso". Have been trying to get in since week 1. Even made 2 booking in morning (through the bar, as it was they who answered phone) only to have bookings cancelled twice through overbooking. Finally on this occasion was told no tables but we could eat at bar no problem so that what we decided to do. (although you can't book bar). UNFORTUNATELY the world and his mother had the same great idea. Only through sheer cheek and actually asking a group of 4 (who seemed to be finished their food) were they moving on and could I leave my no with them to give me a call so I could nab their seats, did we actually get a seat at bar. Finally seated and bottle of wine ordered, got to look round. Nice atmosphere, but more so for groups or families and not for romantic couples as fairly loud. As at the bar, we decided to choose a selection of starters, as easier to eat and I actually hate at best of times only choosing 1 starter (especially mexican). We had the wings, hot and yummy, ribs delish falling off bone. Quesadillas (felt needed a little cheese) and fish goujins. Sooo full after but really enjoyed the whole meal. Will have to get in early in the week next time with my booking.

Last Sunday was the third time we have eaten here since the restaurant reopened in early December. It was always our favourite spot in Howth and great to report that the only thing that has changed is location. The food and service are still as they always were....the wings, quesadilla, ribs for starters and fajitas, steaks and burgers for mains were all excellent. Welcome back !!

GREAT SPOT FACING HOWTH HARBOUR. HAVE EATEN HERE TWICE SINCE IT RE-OPENED. WE HAD A TABLE OF FOUR AND THEN A TABLE OF 6,BOTH TIMES THE FOOD WAS FAB! STAFF WERE GREAT FROM GREETING TO PAYING THE BILL. MENU IS GREAT AND WELL PRICED,ESPECIALLY FOR THE PORTIONS AND QUALITY OF FOOD. OUR PARTICULAR FAVOURITES WERE THE BUFFALO WINGS AND JACKETS, AND FOR MAINS, THEIR FAMOUS FAJITAS. WELL WORTH A VISIT.

I was very disappointed last Sunday having decided to take a trip out to Howth for the best Fajitas in town to find that the restaurant is CLOSED. Its up for sale - lets hope the new owners can live up to the old reputation :(

Best place for fajitas in Ireland! I tend to go for the early bird which has enough choices and is resonably priced. Service is always efficient and drinks are yummy too. Can't find any faults in El Paso; I never had a bad experience here and I'm very sad to hear it is closed.

I love this restaurant. Very casual, nice atmosphere. Staff are really nice and friendly. Shared the buffalo wings which were absolutley gorgeous-(the way they taste in the states with proper buffalo sauce!) and more than enough for two. Had a chicken chimichanga for main course, again was delicious, could've been a small bit spicier and would've liked some more salsa but really nice. For dessert had the lemon lime cheesecake-gorgeous, homemade, fab! Really good place for a gathering with friends. Great value for money!

I went here with a group of girlfriends for dinner. When we arrived they had gotten our reservation wrong and we were left waiting in the hall for 20 mins. When we were finally seated I found the waiter very rude constantly tapping his foot and huffing and puffing when we asked for a little more time to order. 40 mins later our starter arrives.....cold. The food was over priced and to be honest not that impressive. I definitely will not be returning and would not recommend it.

Visited El Paso with a large group of friends just before Christmas. On the way to the restaurant for the Early Bird we received a phone call to advise that the Credit Card machine was out of order and that we could only pay by cash. We advised that we would stop at the atm on the way and were very happy that we received a phone call ahead. We arrived at the restaurant 15 minutes before the early bird finished and went to order immediately as we know the menu well. The waitress advised us that we were too late for the early bird even though we were 15 minutes before the close of early bird advertised. When we objected we were told that their computer would not accept our order at the early bird prices. Staff were not interested at all in the fact that advertising was misleading and we were delayed due to their Credit card machine fault. Will not return.

Response:
Harry I have to side with foodydub on this one, I have arrived twice and 6.45 and been told that I am to late for the EB dispite even ringing up the speaking clock to show your waiter the time was wrong, Also Harry your comment "Unfortunately this is really a complaint not a review. It is not a good forum to deal with these kind of problems" is a lame excuse to try and hide a mistake, I believe this is a great forum for clients to read where they will get good food and good service, it is about the whole experiance and not just the food.

It's closed til the summer. Big loss but they'll have to do something with their prices if they open again. Everyone still mourns the original decor. Complimentary nachos was a nice touch

Went for the early bird menu here over christmas. It was the day of the miserable, torrential rain, so when we were seated in the covered heated outside area and i started getting dripped on, we asked to be moved, it was no problem (as there only one other table occupied at this time). They were very apologetic and gave us a lovely table so no complaints. We each had the potato skins which were yummy! my friend had fajitas which she loved and I had enchilads which were very tasty, we shared some home fries, which are proper thich potato chips, I shoud say we could some free nachos too at the start which was a nice touch. I had the frozen yogurt and berries for dessert which was lovely and not to heavy, although we came at 5 we didn't leave till 8:30, we were never rushed and even has to ask for the bill, so that was very nice, the early bird is excellent value and there is a nice range of choices on it too!

Driving around Howth and decided to have us some mexican food...yam yam. El Paso have great outdoor seating as well which is great for summer time. The location of the restaurant is great. We had some fajitas and buffalo wings. i later asked for some spicy sauce the waitress without any questions brought me some. When we got the bill, I saw that they charged me for the spicy sauce E2.50. The waitress should have told me that they charge for it or offered me tobasco sauce or something like that. The food though was good.

I went to El Paso with High Expectations as a mexican food lover and I wasnt dissappointed I ordered Nachos to start and they became a shared starter between myself and my boyfriend, I ordered the enchiladas which were overlfowing with flavour and my partner ordered the ribs which fell off the bone we both tucked in and washed the food down with fab margaritas, it has to be the best mexican on the north side of Dublin

I used to go to El Paso years ago, I loved it, it was delicious and not that expensive, so a few weeks ago we decided to try it as we were in Howth for the night anyway. I had chicken enchilada and a margarita and was not impressed. The enchilada came out about ten minutes after I ordered it, but it was tasteless, and at almost 18 euro, I expected a lot more. The margarita was tiny, tasted alcohol free and so expensive at 8.50. I've had way better mexican in the city centre for less than half the price, thanks El Paso but I won't be back.

This used to be my favourite place to eat but have found it very disappointing on this occasion. My favourite dish, chicken quesadilla had been taken of the menu. When I asked the manager the reason for this I was told that they did not have enough staff in the kitchen anymore to make it. I had the nachos to start which are always delicious and the jumbo wings for main. My boyfriend had the fajitas which are good but very overpriced at €22. Overall the food was good, service was average and the bill was not very pleasing at all. Total for two starters, two mains and one desert with a couple of cokes was €70. Not exactly the cheap and cheerful meal we had expected!!

Its years since we ate here so decided to revisit while out in Howth. Menu hasn,t changed-much to our delight. Still as delicious as ever. Quesadillas for starters(yummy) and Macho Nachos for mains. 1st time in a long while we couldnt finish dinner as portions were huge. Waitress was pleasant and service was quick. Looking forward to visiting again but won,t be leaving it too long next time....

My absolute favourite Mexican restaurant in Dublin. Can't beat it. Their quesadillas and enchiladas are my choices. Mouth watering fresh guacamole. Always guaranteed a good meal. Great menu, lots of choice catering for every taste bud. The downside is it's a bit pricey - Current times have forced El Paso to my treats only list. Great bar upstairs that makes the best margarita's!!

This has to be the best Mexican restaurant in ireland.I've eaten here at least 10 times and have not been let down.I mostly get the sizzling beef fajitas and they are to die for! They also do home made suces that are really great. They are rated 1 to 10, 10 being the hottest I usually go for a five beacause you can really taste the flavours. They renovated a few years back due to subsidence and I haave to say that the previous decor was more traditional mexican and offered more privacy. Now you can be sitting a little to close to other tables.

This has to be one of my fav restaurants. They do have the best buffalo wings, and a good menu selection. The food is always lovely, the only downside is the price, it is a little steep but however, i would recommend going.

Had a lovely early dinner here one sunny evening. The service was great and the food lovely - the only thing I would fault is that the tables are a little too close together inside so it can feel a little cramped. It would be lovely if we were able to eat outside in the beer garden but unfortunately this isn't an option. Would really recommend though.

El paso is generally a good bet for a quick dinner, food always comes out fast! its always generally nice too! however, hadn't been there for a while(about 4 months) and shocked at how much the prices had gone up by-it was 17.70e for a chicken caesar salad as a main course!!! The food we had was as always gorgeous, nicest buffalo wings around, the only down side was the price...just a little too expensive!!!! Service was brilliant though maybe two waiters would have made things run smoother!

Popped in here to eat on a sunny Saturday afternoon. I absolutely adore Mexican food & was looking forward to trying somewhere new. Unfortunately, this place was a huge disapointment. I ordered the chicken enchiladas which were lacking in flavour & spicyness, the portion size was generous though! My boyfriend had a burger which was tasty enough but wasn't raving about it. I will say that the staff were very nice & I couldn't fault the service but I probably won't be running back here anytime soon unless they spice the food up a bit.

Being one of the few mexican restaurants i know, i was happy to get a chance to have a diner with some nice spicy food. The interior doesn't impress too much, but the atmosphere was nice thanks to the friendly staff. The Burito i had was accompanied by some sort of side salad of canned beans and rice. The Burito itself was spicy and tasty but would have benefitted from a more fresh side dish. Overall you can get some decent food for a reasonable price, but it's nothing to get too much excited about.

Having read all the great reviews we were looking forward to eating at El Paso. We were sorely disappointed. We had the pepper burger and chips and the pork belly ribs. All were bland and the ribs were 'flabby'. Big portions does not equal great quality. Service good and imagine this would have a great atmosphere on a busy night.

A tasty Mexican restaurant, I went here with my boyfriend for the early bird menu on a Friday evening. The restaurant is nothing special inside but it was quite busy for that time, with a few families taking advantage of their special family deal. In fact, the staff politely asked if we would mind moving from our original table so they could make up a table for 6, which was no problem. The early bird is good value but the standard menu seems a bit on the pricy side. The food is delicious though and very filling as you'd expect from Mexican. We had the Crispy Potato Skins, BBQ Wings and Chicken Chimichangas, all of which we thoroughly enjoyed.

We had intended on going to an Italian also in Howth but when they were fully booked we remembered this place and decided to give it a try. It is a bit rough 'n' ready and as a previous comment said, you are quite tightly packed, but it was worth it. We shared a nachos to start and then I had the burger with Guacamole & Bacon bits. Thankfully I remembered to remove the bun from the burger as there was loads of food and I'd never have been able to finish it otherwise. The burger worked out well, very tasty. We had a bottle of wine and I also ordered desert and the bill was very reasonable. Don't be put off by the size or the prices, if you are looking for good food with little fuss, this is the very place.

Found this restaurant on your site Went to Howth. Only took 20 minutes. Excellent place, lovely sunny day, sat outside overlooking the harbour. I couldnt beleive I was in Dublin. It felt like some part of rural Ireland...The food was lovely and the staff and atmosphere were great. Prices were very normal. I would have expected to pay more considering the location. Stayed for about two hour lapping up the sun. Worth a visit if your in Dublin City!

i went to el pasos last night for a meal. the food was gorgeous, the servings were big and it was great value. we had the nachos to share as a starter, main course each and one dessert and it was only 50euro. the only bad thing about the restaurant is that you are sitting on top of the prople next to you. they have too many tables squished together which is a shame as everything else was great.

Heard about this restaurant from some friends and the legendary buffalo wings so decided to give it a whirl on Saturday and boy was I glad we did ! Can't say I would have been a big fan of mexican food but the talk of the buffalo wings was enough to get me through the door! In short the food was fantastic, had the buffalo wings to start and loved them that much I felt I could have eaten them all night (maybe I'll have them as a mains next time!) and had the chimichanga as my mains which was also gorgeous. Great portions, great food and superb service. I am also baffled that some people are saying this place is expensive. We paid €75 which was for 2 x starters / mains / desserts / coffees and drinks. Hardly extorniate. We'll be back sooner rather than later.

This is my favourite restaurant. I've been visiting since it opened 15 yrs ago. The food is truly delicious and the service is excellent. Prices are pretty good too. Nicest thing on the menu is the Buffalo Wings... they're the best in Dublin. Have tried most of the dishes and can honestly say I like them all. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. If you're going for a meal for any occasion I'd recommend El Paso.

I had a lovely meal with my boyfriend and 2 friends here last February. The staff are so friendly and the service is quick and effiecient. The food is cooked to perfection and is great value for money. The prawns pil pil are my favourite! Sitting in the little glassed area in the very front of the restauramt is a little chilly late in the evening however. I'll definitely be a regular customer!

I never do reviews, but love your website> I live in Howth have been going to El Paso for 14 years now. After reading the reviews below I thought I should say something. In 14 years I have only had to complain twice once because the food was not great, It was replaced immediately without any questions or fuss and the other time was the service. Twice in 14 years thats all. I love the place because the food is ALWAYS good the staff are friendly and the value is great. They have earlybird menu which is really good value but not available on bank holidays and their Al la Carte menu has so much choice. I keep going back because it is good and it does'nt break the bank. Keep up the good work El paso Id be lost without you......

I think this restaurant has different menus - sometimes when I go it is the little one and then other times (like a bank holiday) there is the big menu which is more expensive. Don't bother booking a table because you still get put at the very back of the restaurant next to the blaring speakers. Can't stand being ripped off - who increases their prices in a recession????

Overpriced and pretty bad! Went to El Paso in a group of six, all of which are mexican food lovers. The food is a terrible representation of mexican food and is not very good in general. I had the veg burrito and it was more like a nut and seed wrap. Did not have a mexican taste to it and was 90% composed of various nuts and seeds, very little veg. To top it all off, we found a hair in another dish. The food is not worth €5 let alone the €17.70 they are charging!

Was on business in Dublin stayed in lovely place called Howth. I grew up in Texas so when I saw El Paso I said to myself YIPEE! We ordered nachos they were excellent buffalo wings 5 star clam chowder couldnt fault it and quesadilla again top notch! For Mains we had fajitas the best I have ever had amazing T-Bone steak, chimichanga with big juicy tiger prawns and the house chilli bowl. I have to say the food was as good as i have ever had in the states these guys know their onions. We were seated outside in the unusual early sunshine and we watched the world go by. Had a few jugs of beer and really good margeritas the Bill was €156 . Excellent value! Service was great and friendly. I can see why they are there 15 years. If you like Mexican food it is a must!!!

Mexican is my favourite type of cuisine, so I was looking forward to visiting El Paso for the first time at the weekend in a party of 5. It is a nice looking restaurant in a very good location so first impressions were good. For starters we decided to share 2 dishes between the 5 of us - the special starter of the day (duck pancakes with hoi sin sauce) and Nachos. The pancakes were nice, small portion for the price. The nachos were not good at all. About 6 chips on the plate. A small amount of cheese sauce. A spoon of tinned tomato mixed with onion, and a spoon of sour cream served in a cereal bowl. For mains, all 5 of us had a chimichanga. Although tasty, they were not authentic at all. They were essentially a flour wrap filled with cheese and meat and fried. Accompanied again by the tinned tomato and a dollup of sour cream. A sparse gathering of a few finely chopped letuce leaves and a small bit of rice with corn and peas made up the garnish. The chimis were over 19 euro each , you could get the same thing in a sandwich bar for 4 euro. After the meal we had coffees which were good, apart from the fact that the waitress forgot to bring one of the coffees until we reminded her when she passed by again a good 10 mins later. One of the party had a desert (chocolate brownie type cake) which he said was nice. The bill which again was a bit of a chalange to get, came to just under 140€. All in all, highly over priced, bland, portions and food presentation not up to standard. Not any kind of a reflection on Mexican food.

Well I'm a lover of Mexican food and find it hard to get good mexican food in Ireland, however, El Pasa is one of the good ones and the service, well you can't get any better.. The first time I went I had nacho's which were to dy for, but the second time I went I ordered a Taco and the only problem was that it was so big, I couldn't eat it as a taco, it was just stuffed with too much stuff.. The next time I head there, I will be asking to split the portion into two taco shells rather than just the one.... and that will make this restaurant perfect!!!

Just chanced a table at El Paso on Sunday night, hadn't eat there in a couple of years. Was well impressed. Service was excellent couldn't have done enough. I wasn't mad about my starter of prawns, a little tasteless and too much oil but my main course of Tostado Salad was to die for. Partner had Clam Chowder for starter which he rated as the best he ever had. I can't remember the name of his main course but he said it was delicious. Finished with two very good coffees. We will be back again soon.

I thought this place was lovely. There's only a select few decent Mexican places in Dublin. I've found this by far the best one of the bunch. The food its always fresh n hot, service is really good. The atmosphere is ok. I find it great. I always go with my boyfriend.. Its "our" place to go. We've never had a bad experience :D

We ate here last night and found the restaurant to lack an atmosphere. Tables were positioned very close and you couldn't help hear the conversations next to you. Also the table could have been presented far better. The food was average, and not presented well. It was also over priced for what you got. And finally as a health and safety issue, we noticed a object approximately 1 foot by 1 foot obstructing the fire exit closest to our table. We will not be returning again

We visited El Paso at valentines just gone. It was not all that great in regards of service, could easily have been a lot more friendly at the table. However the greeting at the door was very welcoming and we were treated respectfully. A tad lack of style on the plates, for the price charged I think one could ask for a greater level of finesse.

I was hear for valentines night with my boyfriend the place was fairly busy when we arrived and they were even having to turn people away at the door but even still the food was so delicious, the service was brilliant the waiting staff were very attentive but not intrusive, we did ask on booking to be seated inside as the outter area can be a little chilly on wintry nights. I cannot wait to return,

The atmosphere in El Paso is always really welcoming, I love the Mexican inspired music and decore. The food never fails to satisfy, and despite the high turn over in staff, they are generally always attentive and friendly. The fajitas are definitly the best in Dublin!

Really Really Great Mexican food, uncomfortable little place though. Chairs and the noise just make you want to get out of there quickly. Early bird menu is very reasonable for the portion sizes.

Haven't been to El Paso since 07, so decided it was time for another visit. Found making the reservation a bit difficult, there was confusion on the phone about it, which wasn't a good start and when we arrived they had the wrong number of people booked, but it was quickly resolved. It was a cold wet night, so we were eyeing up the cosy sofa's but were brought out to the balcony area, which is less comfortable and can be breezy. They have a heater which comes on periodically, and blows the head off you! We asked to move inside where it was more comfortable and totally empty but the waiter said he would have to check with the manager??? We suggested he adjust the heat, which he did, and it became marginally more comfortable. Incidentally, everyone was seated in the balcony area rather than inside the restaurant, we reckoned this was to make the restaurant look more busy from the outside. We ordered our food, which included cajun chicken and quesadilla. It was absolutely delicious. We were allowed chips instead of rice too, which was great, and there were empty plates all round. Ordered lovely home made desert afterwards too, which was just as nice. Looking forward to my next visit to El Paso, but I think I'll be asking in advance to sit in the restaurant section.

Great value. Staff very attentive . I cant believe I havent been here before. Check it out !! its worth the trip

Went here at the weekend and the food was really nice. Could not get a table till 10 and this was possibly due to the fact that I tried booking through the menu pages website. You cannot book through menu pages on the day on the booking but this is not said any where on the site. The food was very good and priced quite well, and the service was good too. felt the restaurant was a bit tacky but thats just my thoughts.

Visited again on Stephens night. It was a last minute thing so it wasnt untill 20:30 before we tried to book. Sometimes it can be difficult to get a table if you dont book early enough but the guy on the phone said that there was no need to book as given the day that was in it, it was fairly quiet so they were going to close shortly. We arrived at 21:30 and the place was indeed very quiet, but with the mexican music, the great food and the great service, we had a really nice dinner. After a while we were the only people left in the place so we thought we might have been outstaying our welcome but the staff continued to look after us, asking us was everything OK, if we needed anything else, desert menus etc. They made us feel very welcome. Will keep coming back here, really nice spot.

Been here a few times and i always enjoy myself, there probbly the best mex resturant in Ireland. The foods good you can taste authentic flavours. The menu has most of the steriotypical mexican dishes you would expect. I love there barbeque ribs and steak chips the portions are huge and often my girlfriend and i only order a main. The decors nice but can be a bit squashed depending on where your sitting and it can be very loud when its crowded. The staff are very nice and on one occasion they opened the upstairs bar so my friends and i could drink after our meal. Oh they make great mojitos ! In short good food, nice place good staff good drinks!!!

I've been to El Paso in Howth on a number of occasions and the staff are very nice. The food is always freshly prepared. With some traditional mexican dishes the portions are a bit large though and on every occasion we visited there were left overs. If they reduced the portions then the prices would also be better.

I went to el paso last thurs wit my boyfriend, I was not impressed. My buffalo wings for starters were lovely, my boy got nacho's and they were really poor (you would make better at home). I got Chicken Quesadilla's and they were soggy underneeth like they had been re-heated. My boy got ribs and chps, they were OK. We had 2 sangria too, there didnt seem to be much alhohol in it! It cost €85 and was not worth it for the quality of food. I will not be back...

It is a nice restaurant, with a good setting. Price was very competitive as well. The food was a little 50:50. Our starters were delicious, buffalo wings and the prawns pil pil. However mains were a little disappointing - ribs and the burger, felt a bit like takeaway food. Not trying to put this place down because it is a nice place, just didnt overly enjoy mains.

I visited El Paso last Friday and made it on time for the early bird: great value for money. I had quesadilla for starters and sizzling chicken fajitas as a mains: nothing to be faulted there (maybe a bit too much coriander in the tomato relish). My boyfriend was also happy with his choices. Service is perfect and the atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a Tex-Mex restaurant. Loved it!

Was here few weeks ago with my boyfriend! We shared wings for starters which were absolutely FAB! I had d fajitas for my main and he had the burrito! We had booked a table but when we arrived ( about half an hour early) our table wasnt ready which was understandable! We were asked if we would like to take a seat and have a few drinks while we waited which we were more than happy to do, so we decided to sit in the beer garden as were both smokers! In the end we asked if we could have our meal outside ( heated sheltered beer garden) which the staff were more than happy to accomadate! Overall we had a lovely meal, great price and fab nite!

Was there last Saturday with my friends. Restaurant was full, so good we made reservation. Last time I visited this place about 6 months ago... But after this visit, I think, I will become a regular there! We had lovely spicy Buffalo wings (well crispy and sauce just delicious), nachos (Their homemade cheese sauce-one to die for!! Mmmm!!!), Grilled prawns, with mild sauce(My girlfriend said:cooked to perfection!), BBQ Rib, nice size of starter portion, my friend even ordered side order of BBQ (Worth to pay for!). Mains: we had Sirloin steak, Chicken Chimichanga, Tuna steak, and T-bone steak. Me and my friend had Steaks, with theirs home made Wedges- sirloin was as tender as fillet (did not try, but I trust my friends opinion), T-bone... size incredible, I could not fit all portion in me... had to leave bone on plate :)!! Girls had Chimichanga and Tuna... My girlfriend was very pleased, that Tuna was cooked, as per order- medium/rare. Sorry, we could not fit any of desserts. But I believe that they are delicious as well. Good Margaritas and Mojitos, as well as beer!! Service, very good. Waiter was very educated on all ingredients, so we know what to expect even before food was on table. Prices...well.. If the food and service is excellent, I do not mind to pay a little extra. Thanks a lot to El Paso team, for our great evening!! We will be back soon-DEFINITELY!! Can't wait till you guys will open Tapas bar!! Thanks again! See yous soon!!

I never review, but after reading the bad comment below, I had to say something....I had to ask myself is that woman for real. I have eaten in this place for 14 years since it opened. It is good enough to be still my favourite middle of the road restaurant.. After 24 years I think it speaks for itself.. How many restaurants last 14 years I really dont think that review could be genuine..

ok..i had to reply after reading the last comment.myself and my girlfriend would eat in el paso quite regular. the food in general is excellent and always cooked and served to a very high standard. the restaurant itself has built up so many regular customers like myself by its fabulous buffalo wings, chimichangas and fajitas(even the tomato and basil soup is good!)!! i personally feel it offers something completely different to howth/fish restaurant community. on another note we were served there by a chap who i think a lot of waiting staff could learn a thing or two from.he is very attentive. one time my girlfriend was overly full and didn't eat too much of the main course,he got the chef out of the kitchen who asked was everything ok and even offered to make another dish, without so much of a complaint or anything from us.. i think generally the place is very good with great food and committed staff that work really good together to provide a decent atmosphere.. so i gotta ask..if everything was so bad..why not complain???????

I was disgusted by everything about this resturant, I can make better food from a packet from the supermarket (and i'm not a chef). Everything tasted like it had been microwaved, it was chewy and truly disgusting! I don't usually have no positives but I really can't think of anything except its a good location, i'd reccomend getting a bag of chips elsewhere and sit on the pier!

Was here last weekend for the first time in a number of years. Had an enjoyable night but was slightly disappointed with the food. Had chicken wings for starters which were nice but a tad greasy. Had beef fajitas for mains which were tasty. However my girlfriend had chicken enchiladas which were soggy and has way too much cheese. She also did not have enough sour cream and had to ask for more. To our amazement when we got the bill we noticed they had charged us 2 euro for the sour cream which I thought was poor form. Also for starters, mains & a bottle of wine (no dessert)the bill came to 85 euro, which I felt was overpriced for this restaurant. Won't be rushing back..

WE love this place It would be what we call our restaurant!!! I have been going here for about 10 years though it has changed in the last feww years I still cant fault it. I always get the nachos for starters and the chicken fajitas for main then the hot chocolate fudge cake (if I have room)and we always have an el paso's special (cocktail - this has increased dramtically in price though) I have ate in other texmex places but nothing compares to El paso we will be eating here again no question!

I went here last night with my 2 sisters and had a really lovely meal. We shared the buffalo wings (very, very good!!) and chips&dips (lovely fresh chips with a nice selection of dips) for starters. My sisters got the chicken quesadilla and the chicken enchillada, both asked for them not to be too spicy and they came out perfect! I had the beef chimichanga which was lovely and spicy with good quality beef. The servers were all very nice and friendly and made sure we were all enjoying our meal, without being too intrusive. Overall, a very nice evening out!

I have been to El Paso a few times over the past 3 years and it was one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. Not any more! I went with 3 friends and not one of us was pleased/satisified with what we got. The jackets to start were bland, the chopped bacon on top seemed too "ready prepared" and the cheese sauce would have been nicer out of a packet. The large dollop of sour cream was totally unnecessary but added to the blandness. My friend had the salmon goujons which were nice enough but there was something missing. I had the chicken enchilada for main, it was fine but again, something missing. The mexican rice was dull and the sweetcorn and peas in it rubbery. The staff were ok but no one came back to check if we were alright. At €110 for four people (3 starters, 4 mains, 1 beer and 2 minerals) I would have expected more. I good thing I will say though is that the lady on the front desk took my criticisim very nicely. I hope she takes it to heart as I was very embarrassed bringing my closest friends to a restaurant I had raved about only to find it hugely below average. We all had to have an icecream from Maud's afterwards! Shan't be back...

Howth is great for restaurants, so many to choose from. I have been to El Paso many times and have always had an enjoyable time. I highly recommend the nachos as a starter, the chicken enchilada is excellent as a main! Will be back again very soon :)

I was in El Paso last Friday and I have to say I was very disappointed. I'd been before with friends and liked it and as it advertises itself as a child friendly restaurant I thought to come here with my friend's daughter who is 9. Although my meal was lovely, they brought her starter out so hot I could not even touch it. It was chicken wings and we couldn't even hold onto them for the few seconds it took to pull them open to let them cool down! Then they brought fish for starters, a portion too big I would think for a child and again when she cut it open the steam hit her in the face straight away. Again she had to wait a while before even starting her meal. It's very disappointing for a restaurant that advertises itself as child friendly to serve food that would burn the mouth off the child.... Very disappointed

This place seems to get worse and worse every time I visit. It started off being a great place to go, but over time has sunk fast. The last time I was there my food seemed to have been warmed up from something that was cooked earlier, and the service was non existent. Got charged for items we didnt even order as well. They we're nice to sort it out with a free desert but the service over the whole night was a disaster. The food was little better on this certain occasion.

Visted El Paso for the first time last Saturday Night. Very friendly and attentive staff from the beginning of the night. My boyfriend and I started with the Grilled Prawns and the highly recommended Buffalo Wings. Following on for main course we both had the Surf N Turf fajitas which we both thoroughly enjoyed and to finish we had the Banoffi and Tiramisu. Overall a wonderful evening and the relaxed atmosphere and decour complemented the delicious food.

This place is alright, but the whole point of Mexican food is that it's supposed to be cheap and cheerful. Ingredients cost next to nothing, so anything more than ten euro for a main course represents a huge mark-up. Fajitas here are delicious, although not at all authentic. Everything else tastes pretty fine, lack of quality ingredients is made up for with lots of salt and sour cream. Service is very attentive and they definitely try hard, which is nice too. There are definitely better places to get Mexican food in Dublin, and better places to eat in Howth also.

I too am surprised at some of the good reviews El Paso has been getting of late, I used to eat here on a regular basis and on a recent trip found everything to be quite expensive and all dishes taste the same they are just named different and all come with cold tasteless rice!!

I am amazed at the good comments that this restaurant has managed to get. The food is terrible, service leaves an awful lot to be desired and as for the dark and dingy surroundings its not really even close to an "ok" restaurant experience. A Beef burrito had the sum total of around 4 pieces of beef in it and was served with "packet" rice that was also quite bland and tasteless. This was then topped off with a pint of coke that cost a whopping 6 euro a glass. Plates sat at the table for around 45 minutes after we had finished eating with no waiting staff to be seen. I have simply no idea how this restaurant is still going and I now remember why I hadn't been there in at least 10 years! Easily the worst place to eat in Howth.

Very substandard Mexican Restaurant. Went there with my partner and had chicken wings and Nachos to start. Chicken Wings couldn't be faulted, perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious. Nachos were not fresh and were extremely salty. Main course was Chicken Enchilada's and Chicken Chimichanga. Both were bland and the chicken was poor quality. We ordered hot sauce to try to inject a bit of flavour into our mains and it was too spicy to eat. Very low standard, expected more flavour from a Mexican. Service was ok although they got our drinks wrong, good atmosphere though. A bit pricey for the standard of food.

We went here with the whole family. The building was quite classy, which pleased the elders and Mexican food is always fun, which pleased everyone. Okay, so the menu was a bit bland and you can get cheaper fajitas in town but we had a fantastic night and bless our waiter who promptly catered for our many demands. It’s always nice to work off all that cheese with a brisk walk by the sea too.

Had dinner with my friend the other day - what a treat!!! The service was excellent from the moment we stepped into the restaurant to the moment we left. The location and the food is excellent and very good value for money. Oddly they have their bad review posted all over the building and the staff are very unhappy with this review. Based on my visit to El Paso I have to disagree that the bad review was not warranted. Excellent Northside Restaurant. Will definitely be back for more!

Wasn't impressed on this occasion. Have been to El Paso a couple of times during the years and this was the worst visit. Starters were good and generous portions. Enchillada was very disappointing, rice was dry and tasteless as was the lettuce. Expensive main for a wrap with chicken (€18). Should have went for fajitas but decided to try something new. Staff were friendly enough, charged for wine which we subsequently returned for cocktails and beer but it was removed when we checked the bill. I like the venue and location but could do with lifting the game a bit, possibly getting complacement after 14 years in business with no real mexican competition in Dublin. Had a far superior meal (admittedly an early bird) in a local Michelan star restaurant with an extra course including drinks and service for the same price.

I've been going here for the last 7 years or so and have never been let down. If you're a fan of spicy food (proper spicy) you *have* to try the "Hot Pat" sauce, it'll cure all. Perfect place to go on Sunday afternoon.

I've been going to this gaff for years and it rarely disappoints. The Chowder is amazing and the Mexican dishes go down a storm with some "Hot Pat" sauce; one of the spiciest things you can get in Ireland. The Mozzarella burger is also great. For a couple of years there, the service went a bit downhill, but for my last few visits it's been back to friendly and fun. Only problem I have is the salads that accompany the meals, which are a bit limp and tasteless. But hey, you don't win friends with salads. In a word: FUN. :)

Makes a nice change from the fish restaurants in Howth. Huge selection of Mexican dishes, especially good if you are a vegetarian. Nice cosy atmosphere with fast and efficient service. I would definitely recommend the fajitas, which were delicious and a good portion size.

Good comfort food at reasonable prices. I ordered a vegetarian burrito and baked potato which was excellent. My friend had salmon and was a bit disappointed with it but I pointed out that there are plenty of specialist fish restaurants in Howth if that is what you are after. The ice cream desert was delicious and enough to fill three people. Service was excellent but given the wide variety of competition now available in the area, the restaurant might need a bit of a paint job and facelift to enhance the surroundings All in all a good experience and I would recommend it, especially for vegetarians.

My friends and I ate here this evening. Just said I'd add a comment as it was through this site we found the restaurant. Over all we a nice evening. Service was good and friendly. Food was quiet good. As a veggie I found it good. Starter of quesadilla was average but burrito for main was top notch. My girlfriend was impressed too. She did pass comment that the chicken was of really good quality. We sat in the front extension part.. nice although there appeared to be a problem controlling the temperature. Overall, a nice eve

My friends and I booked a table for four last Saturday. I have to say that we were not that impressed and found the menu more expensive than the resturants in town. We ordered a starter to share for four, which as nachos, they came out hot and were tasty. The mains where also tasty, we had fajitas and burritos. I wished the staff were a bit more friendly and welcoming, no one smiled nor welcomed us when they took the order. I think I will stay with my local Mexican in town.

This is a fun restaurant! There is a great atmosphere and the music is lively. The staff are also friendly and attentive. It would be wonderful if the food was better! The food is quite bland - exactly what a Mexican should not be! I had the worst prawns pil pil (I know, not strictly Mexican) I've ever had. The food is passable but with a little more effort it could be super. It is also quite expensive for what it is. We were charged 3.50 for a tiny portion of guacamole! By all means try it for a fun night out but don't expect much from the food.

Ate here about a month ago and enjoyed it. Food was nothing spectacular, but then again I find that when eating Mexican food it's hard to find anything above average as it's all so standard. But the service was good and my quesadilla was tasty. Would return as it's decent value also.

This is without a doubt my favourite restaurant in Dublin. I have eaten at a fair few restaurants but this one takes the banoffee pie, literally. You dont have to be a big fan of Mexican food to enjoy this restaurant but it helps and the food is delicious no matter what you order. My recommendation is to order a main course and dessert instead of a starter. The portions are huge and even if you dont have a sweet tooth the desserts are well worth getting. The service and atmosphere are enjoyable but it won't matter when you taste the food.

Quick visit to Howth and was hungry for tortillas. Just off the railway station there was this place and they had tortillas/fajitas! Taste and quality was as good as expected, but amount was not that great considering the price of the set. Service was not the most friendly and missed those smiles again. Other thing was the fact that the waiter spilled some sauce on my pants, cleaned of course, but did not apologize. The terrace was a bit sweaty cause it was hot inside and outside was pouring rain. Gave that coast feeling though. Still, I might take my friends over the next time, the fajitas compensated for the lack of service and the location is pretty sweet.

El Paso seems to have either gone downhill in recent years, or else my taste buds have become more refined. I find the food very disappointing and when the bill came, I was even more disappointed. I once went in with two others on a busy Saturday night; we were told there would be a half hour wait. We didn't mind so much as we expected it, so we decided we would have a drink upstairs. We were completely forgotten about and I had to go downstairs several times to see if a table was available soon. We ended up waiting about an hour and a half for a substandard, overpriced meal. We would have gone elsewhere, but by that stage we thought we thought it would be too late and we were hungry.

Food is lovely here in this mexican. Chicken wings are lovely and any main course I have eaten here is good. Only problem is the size of the restaurant-small and cramped. However, unlike others you still do not feel that you can hear other diners. Avoid with babies or toddlers though. However, I would return. Staff are nice.

I went to El Paso yesterday with a group of friends and we all found it very disappointing. It was a rainy Saturday afternoon and even when the place was not busy at all they didn’t allow us to take a nice table. We assumed it was because they had bookings but we were there for over 2 hours and situation didn’t change much. We had nachos for starter and we all agreed they were poor. The service was neither friendly or quick. When the main courses finally came in we were once more disappointed. I order a chicken Caesar salad & chicken bits were extremely salty, my friends ordered chicken chimichanga, burrito & taco respectively and they were unimpressed too. All the food looked and tasted very dried and not fresh. The food price and quality were not up to standards at all and we won’t be coming back again.

This is a fun, lively resteraunt in which you will have a good time. The decor is fun and the staff are great. There is usually a great atmosphere in the restaurant. The food is only OK and you could probably cook tastier yourself. The accompanients provided with the fahitas are very poor and you have to order guacamole as an extra it you want it. Don't assume it comes with your dish.

We asked for the early bird at 6.45pm and were told it wasn't available as it finished at 7pm???? Otherwise ok, don't sit outside the overheat heaters will slowly roast you. Varied dishes, I strayed off the Mexican path and had chicken Caesar salad which was very tasty, my better half went for a hot and spicy chicken dish & she wasn't disappointed.

Decided on a walk in Howth today but alas RAIN RAIN RAIN. Went to El Paso for lunch instead. Lovely restaurant but not too busy. Service was excellent and staff were lovely. A little bit over priced for lunch; they should consider a lunch menu. Had the barbecue ribs for starter and the El Paso burger for main. Cooked to perfection. Enjoyable lunch thanks to the weather.

Ate in El Paso on Sat night. It's been a few years since my last visit. The staff were very friendly and efficient. However the restaurant itself seems to be fitting in as many tables and chairs as possible , with a result you are sitting on top of the person beside you. The food was good, yet the presentation and quantity lacked compared to my previous visits (I used to eat regularly. It was an enjoyable night but not comfortable enough to hang around after your meal and enjoy the rest of a bottle of wine. I will go back but will ask to be seated in benches area, looks more comfortable.

I dined here for my previous birthday, I was very happy with it, the portions where massive, I only dented my macho taco meal, which they don't appear to do anymore. I really enjoyed the diner and was happy with the prices too.

With it being very hard to find good Mexican food in Dublin, it was nice to eat at this restaurant to find it's at least half way there! We visited late on a Sunday afternoon in between the lunch and dinner rushes, so we had a lovely meal. The chicken burrito was good, as were the ribs that my friend had.

Very popular spot, be sure to make a booking!! I've eaten here a few times, and have to admit, that so far, in Dublin, I have yet to find a better Mexican. The only down side, is that it is not on the cheaper side of the scale. But, go for it, it is worth it and generally the service has been satisfactory, which makes it worth paying a little more. Good food, and consistency. Wine list is less desirable!

Went for a family meal on a Sunday evening to El Paso, we were waiting a while at the reception before approached. The service generally was good and the waiters attentive. However I have eaten here before and the food quality has gone downhill. It will be a while before going back

Had a fabulous lunch, about time they opened early great idea, the only place I can find in Dublin that actually serve FRESHLY cooked Mexican especially the guacamole, it was excellent. Great homemade sauces, you choose how spicy. Great al fresco dining area worth waiting in the bar for. Service is excellent not an Irish man in sight very friendly staff.. Tried some of the specials lots of seafood, green curry, beef black bean sauce. Must say sitting in the sun looking over the harbour enjoying a pint of cider, where would you get it.

I was in El Paso just this Friday, I have to say the evening was great, the sun was shining so we were lucky enough to be able to sit in the outside terrace. The staff is very efficient and friendly. We only had a main course and a starters. Nachos for starter and chicken burrito for main course. Although everything was tasty and nice it didn’t feel fresh, the key of Mexican food is the freshness of the ingredients, home made guacamole, home made salsa but in this case it didn’t really taste as fresh as it should have been! My rice and my burrito were definitely micro waved. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are looking for a great Mexican. It is acceptable but not amazing especially because the prices are high. All in all there is a nice long menu so even vegetarians can find something and the ice-cream was good.

A little bit expensive for what it is (8 euro for a packet of Doritos with dips for starters!), but it is worth it. You'd be forgiven for thinking you're on hols when you sit out on the terrace! The mojito couldve been a little sweeter, but still gorgeous! Delicious & authentic Mexican in a great atmosphere served by really friendly staff.

Read the excellent reviews on the site and thought I'd give this place a try but was a little disappointed. Thought the food was a little bland and the seating arrangements mean you're practically sharing conversations with the people next to you. Nice setting though on the pier.

This place has gone rapidly downhill in the last few years. All the main courses are starting to taste the same and are bland bland bland.

Went to El Pasos with my boyfriend, and (although the heating was unbelievably high) I had some beautiful chicken wings for starters and a nice steak for main & to die for banoffi for desert!!!! :-) It has a nice atmosphere although it can be extremely busy and we had to wait in the bar (waiting room!) until our table was ready - a nice experience though with some beautiful food

I found this restaurant to be one which the service and great atmosphere outdid the food. The food is good but not great but the place is a fantastic spot especially if you're heading out after. The staff were all very friendly and accommodating, will definitely return

I am just in the door from my hideously unpleasant experience at El Paso. I have read the positive reviews and have to wonder whether these people were at the same restaurant as me. We went in for a snack because the menu looked alright. We both had nachos. I ordered a side of guacamole because it doesn't come with the nachos. The nachos arrived doused in a cheese sauce that probably never saw a piece of cheese in its unnaturally long shelf-life. On the plus side, it was cheaper than the identical one you get on "nachos" in the cinema. There was an unappetising watery fluid building up under the rapidly congealing cheese sauce. Definitely not homemade. There was a dollop of sour cream and a tablespoon of salsa on the corn chips. The whole nasty affair was topped off by jalapenos which were fine. The guacamole was fine but I really don't think it was fresh and homemade-or maybe I was assuming that every ingredient had the same provenance as the cheese sauce. My friend asked for some more salsa given the meagre amount that was on the nachos and he was charged for the extra portion. I had a tiny glass of coke that cost €2.50. The toilets are clean enough but a bit manky. We left feeling slightly queasy and very ripped off. I know it's billed as a cheap enough place to eat but that really doesn't excuse such poor standards. I will not be going back.

Was disappointed by EL Paso. The tables are on top of each other and the service was slow and disorganised. Jalapeno poppers with not a Jalapeno in sight and a burrito without cheese is just wrong...different menu online to the one in the restaurant. None of the specials or tapas on the menu were available ... Corona with a withered sliver of lime. Macho Nacho's were good but overall disappointing and I don’t think I will be returning.

Great restaurant for a cheap (ish) and cheerful meal. Food is delicious although the service is not the best and staff didn't seem that interested. Portion sizes are pretty good. Definitely one to return to.

I think that this must be the only Tex Mex Restaurant in the world that doesn't sell Corona! NO bottled beers just pints of lager, Guinness etc. The food is so so, no big deal. I didn't find the staff or the manager very friendly and I certainly won't be back.

El Paso was my favourite restaurant. Since it changed hands though, I'm not really impressed. I loved the whole Mexican theme before with the music etc but now its slightly more modern now. No Mexican feel to it. It's also can be quite small and you're on top of one another. I do love Mexican food though and they do great nachos and fajitas.

A group of us used to eat here a few years back and we loved it, the atmosphere was great, the service was great and very friendly and relaxed and the whole place had a brilliant buzz about it. Iv been here recently a few times and I have to say I think its changed dramatically, the service being the worst thing about it. There doesn’t seem to be any buzz to it anymore and why did they get rid of the booths, that were one of the main reason people in groups went, it made it like a private party! BRING BACK THE BOOTHS!!!

Steaks ...nearest thing I've had was in Shanahan's. The guys all raved at the Mexican food. Really professional attitude left them a well deserved tip especially after running around after us lot... Recommend big time... JC..

I lived in California for years, was told of a lovely place that makes it’s own sauces homemade and uses fresh cilantro. Gave it a go and it was scrummy very friendly and welcoming staff good prices. I could even sit outside in December sip my wine and have a fag under a heater I though I was back in California. Recommend highly...

Heard about this place for ages, jumped on dart from Bray got off in Howth short walk around the harbour nice place.. Anyway went into Elpaso and it was packed. The friendly guy gave us a drink in Harry’s bar upstairs. He took our name and said he had an area that was just for chance walk ins, 20 mins later we were sorted. Had a couple of margaritas WOW. At last the food we waited for. We had chicken wings..as good as elephant and castle.. Caesar salad excellent.. Beef and prawn fajitas for two I wanted to lick the plate.. The special order HOT sauce was kickin, homemade and full of flavour. Homemade guacamole you don’t get that anymore... All washed down with a big jug of beer. It might be open for 13 years, I know one thing for sure, I will be back sooner than that. EXCELLENT well worth taking the passport out and jumpin on the dart, even if it is a long way off... Please open one Southside...

I've been here three times this year, and only one thing has remained constant: the extremely tacky menus. The food is usually decent, and I particularly enjoy their homemade hot sauce. However service can vary widely, and during even non-busy times it can take a while for your food to be served. The pitchers of beer are a nice change, although it would be good if there was a better selection.

Saw restaurant on the TV "On the Menu" Looked great had to give it a go. We booked and were asked to vacate the table in a two hour period, when we arrived we could see why. The place was buzzing and it was only Tuesday in November. We had a lovely drink after our meal in a very nice bar up stairs 1.Food authentic not processed food had a homemade warmth about it, 2. Staff very friendly and efficient, 3.Hygeine excellent. 4. Drinks very good margaritas. 5. Extras excellent outdoor eating area with heaters and you can smoke. Overall will definitely return

I remember when the food in El Paso was great and the cocktails were superb! BUT NOT ANYMORE! Judging from my last meal at El Paso, I doubt I will be eating there again. The food was okay - though not as good as years past - but the portions were meagre and not anywhere near the value for the money they were charging. The cocktails were - I grant you - very good. But the bar staff all used the same trick of loading the glasses or jugs up with ice before pouring the cocktails, which meant you got about two sips per glass!
