What a find....you could easily overlook Deep as you stroll around Howth, it is the far end of the pier, facing a warehouse!!!! From the outside, it does not look like much, but they have done an amazing job with the interior - bright, fresh and a mirrored wall gives the image of greater space. The staff are friendly and attentive. We were a party of 2 and ordered the seafood platter - it was so yummy, full of Fish cakes / Calamari / Smoked Salmon on brown bread / Crayfish in a lemon mayonnaise / Mixed green leaves / Sweet chilli dip and garlic aioli. We were in heaven - the calamari was very tender, not a bit chewy, the smoked salmon was so soft and tasty.....everything was great and more than enough for 2 people. Will definitely return.

came here for a family 60th as a party of 9, on a busy Saturday evening. the restaurant is quite small, but because of this there is a really cosy atmosphere! the early bird menu is great value, with plenty to choose from! the waiting staff are lovely, and always helpful and knowledgeable. have been a few times for dinner, and also for lunch, would however advise prebooking for either as the place is always full! lovely little restaurant, would recommend it highly

Been there with 3 friends for lunch last friday. The place is nice and cosy, really warms you during these rainy days. All of us had the early bird menu and shared the plates so we could taste everything. The mussels in white wine sauce were to die for as well as their pan fried salmon. Fish was fresh and cooked to perfection. The staff was friendly and service attentive; they left us waiting the right amount of time between courses so we could pause and have a chat. We left full and happy; we'll definetely be back soon.

We had a mixture of tiger prawns and seafood platter to start. all items were delicious and perfectly cooked. For mains we had the stone bass, seabass and both wee amazing. I will definitely go there again and will recommend to a friend. I would advise to watch your step as the tiles are slippy which inst a friend to those in heels!! :)

Had a super relaxing lunch here, good service and not rushed or waiting too long. The restaurant is quite small so tables are close together but it is a very friendly atmospere so don't be put off . It is well located on the pier with plenty of free parking. We shared a starter of mussels in cream and wine sauce as good as I have had anywhere. Our main courses Seabass with crushed potatoes and very well constructed sauce with fennel, Sea trout with chorizo and potatoes all well cooked well presented and full of flavour. Small wine list but well balanced and reasonably priced selection to suit most tastes. Also good quality wines by the glass and generous size glass of wine as well. Good coffee to finish. We will definitely be visiting again.

Wow what a pleasant surprise - we were taking a walk this sunny Sunday just before the peak lunch hour and managed to stroll in and get a table straight away. The staff were friendly & efficient and nothing was too much trouble. To start we shared the Calamari - all i can say is OMG absolutely melt in your mouth exquisite, the best i've ever had - this was followed by 1 Pork Belly & 1 Surf n Turf which was on the "Specials" board at the time...they were equally delicious and very reasonable for the quality of food and portion sizes. We didn't have room for dessert so we settled for some Lattes, all in all a delightful setting, very bright, airy & clean and would highly recommend. Look forward to eating there again soon. :-)

Four of us arrived in Howth early afternoon looking for somewhere to eat. We looked into Deep but it was full doing great business. The lady told us to call back in 10 minutes and she would have a table took our number and true to form rang us in 10minutes for a table. Well all I can say is omg food out of this world. We had hake, the fish pie, mackerel and I can honestly say the flavour, presentation, service all second to none. Will definitely be back lovely lovely lovely grub. No wonder it is so busy. We even had to have dessert lol. Cost about €40per person but it was so worth it. We will be back here.

Went here on a saturday evening as a group of 4. We ordered the calamari and tomato soup as a starter, which were nice. As main course we had fish and chips, Tiger Prawns with a mussel and cream broth on jasmine rice and the grilled Hake with oven roasted vegetables and baby potatoes. All was nice but portions a bit on the small side. Service was very good.

Not all it's cracked up to be.... We stopped by for dinner on a Sunday evening and were expecting great things given the reviews but it did not live up to expectations... We shared the pate for starter which was lovely and a very generous helping.... For main course I had the Sea Trout with a pea and chorizo fricasse potatoes with a port and caper dressing - the trout was cooked to perfection but all I could taste & the lasting taste was the oil from the chorizo!!! My boyfriend had the Grilled Hake with oven roasted vegetables & baby potatoes which was lovely... Our main courses were €20 each and a glass of wine was €8.... So not all that reasonable for Sunday lunch / dinner.... Unfortunately it was bitterly cold out that day and the restaurant was surprisingly cold so we did not relax as much as we should have which may have tainted my view of the food somewhat... Still I won't be rushing back....

Went on a Thursday night as I had been there before for a Sunday lunch and the food was very good although a bit pricey but I saw they had an early bird menu which was €25 for 3 courses with tea/coffee which was great value given the choice that was available. My starter of falafel was lovely although I asked for the dressing on the side but it was sitting in it and the harissa was not spicy at all but still very tasty. My main dish of cod with roasted veg was really lovely, the cod melted in my mouth and I could have eaten the roasted veg just on their own they were so good. My friend had the smoked salmon with potato starter which she loved (I thought it was extremely over priced at €13! but she enjoyed it). Her main of roast chicken and roast potatoes was tender and she thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the price of wine by the glass was very expensive at €6.50 min but it could've been more I can't remember, prices per bottle were a bit more realistic although I couldn't drink a bottle myself and my friend was driving. Not alot of originality and choice in the desserts but they were ok, but you don't go there for the desserts really. Overall great if you go for the early bird, polite staff, would go back again.

Fantastic seafood. I went here with 2 friends and each one of us loved the flavours of our starters and main dishes. Where it wins on taste it lacks in atmosphere though.

will defo not be returning to deep, this my second time here,1st experiance was bad but decided to give a second chance as it has good reveiws nowadays,we had a party of 10,when we looked at the menu half of the stuff that was on the menu on internet were not on the menu that night, totally overpriced for mediocre food.the worst thing is when 1 of the group asked are the prawns fresh in the meal she was going to pick she was told yes,and when they arrived at the table they were rubbery frozen prawns, which i cant understand for a fish restaurant on the pier.anyway when the waiteress asked was everything ok,my friend said no actually its not,i asked if the prawns were fresh etc.... the manager never aproached us, i will say 1 thing we did have a lovely waiter and he was very helpful when i asked for his help shelling my dublin bay prawns, without him the place would be a total bummer.if your not fussy itwill do,but not for a 400euro total with no dessert and only a few starters for 10 people,i defo wouldnt be recomending it to any1 especially a party,as no atmosphere,

Went to Deep last night having read the very good reviews here. Were not disappointed! The staff were charming and really welcoming which I found a huge plus! We had Calamari and Fish Cake for starters, the calamari was enough for two, not melt in your mouth (which is hard to get) just al dente and really tasty. Fish cake was very nice too. He then ordered the Cassoulet of Seafood which was a large bowl of mixed fish in a creamy sauce with a dollop of mash on top...very nice. I had the Seafood linguini which I loved. Sauce had squid, prawns and mussels through it. We had a nice bottle of pinot grigio, bill came to 82 euros....not cheap but certaintly well worth it. We will be back.

We just fancied something quick this evening and tried Deep again. No reservation, rolled up just after 6, to avail of the early bird, and were offered a table until 8:45. I think we were lucky though as we saw quite a few casual callers declined. We both had mussels in a Provencal sauce which looked more like a thick tomato soup but was very tasty. My wife had the Tiger Prawns in the coconut milk sauce served with rice. she wasn't able to finish the rice as the main dish was quite filling, I ordered hake but it was off this evening, quite a run on it we were told, so I settled for the seafood cassoulet which I had eaten in the past. Loads of salmon with some flakes of white fish breadcrumbed and topped with mash. Very tasty too. We had a glass of Sauvingnon Blanc apiece and passed on desserts and coffee. Total €53 and a few cent. Great value

We liked this place the best from the outside window view along the wharf. Were pleased at first with both the service and the menu offerings. Even though it was early for lunch, the hostess told us though they were out of one of the best sounding fresh fish options, that she had just acquainted us with minutes before. We ordered from the small but just fine, fresh seafood menu and the dishes were served up quickly. The fresh cod (mine) was delicious and very well prepared, but my partner was immediately very disappointed in her dish as she had pointedly asked the waiter for the LARGE-type fresh prawns we had seen in all the fish markets lining the street (when she asked about the menu offerings and he suggested her dish.) Her " tiger prawns" were tiny shrimp, not many of them at that, and were completely covered in a heavy Thai type sauce over rice, not at all as she expected, and when we tried to explain what she had wanted , and to request a different dish, the waiter sniffed at us and said it "would take twenty- five minutes more" ( to get another dish). Since we had watched all others around us get their food in about fifteen minutes, as we had , we felt the "punishing", so shared my cod dish and left, Very pretty place, had some great fish I think , a nice setting and comfortable elegance- just snippy service. He actually argued that they WERE Tiger prawns even if they were small ones, so she should just accept the dish. Would not go back, in spite of the delicious cod, I am afraid.

Will definitely return here, as despite warnings from a friend that the service was poor we found it to be anything but. We were handed menus promptly and also notified off the nights specials. My starter was a fantastic tomato, aubergine and mozzarella bake that any restaurant would proud of. For a main i had the pasta which again was full of flavour but portion wise was probably enough for two. My two friends both enjoyed fish courses and one was very impressed the muscles as a starter. The only complaint if any was that it seemed a bit expensive as the meal was only 15 euro cheaper than the night before with all eating starters and mains with one shared dessert. But the previous night we had two bottles of wine opposed to tonights one. That said i will be heading back out again for that starter for definite.

Two of us enjoyed a lovey dinner here on Friday evening last. We went to Howth in the hope of sampling some good seafood and we were not dissapointed. There was a good selection - mains included sea bass, hake, cod but also lots for the meat lover - with lamb, beef and chicken featuring on the menu. For starters we has a delicious deep fried brie cheese and a fish cake. Both dishes were excellent. Perfectly served with lovely side salads. For mains we went for the cod with a caper butter sacue. This was served with mash potatoe - a simple dish but really delicious! Likewise the fish cassoulet that hubbie ordered, got full marks. A side dish of veggie was mixed pepper/ onion and corgette. We finished with choc fudge cake and a baileys and choc cheesecake, seleceted from the blackboard of deserts. Throughout the meal the staff were pleasent and helpful. The bill didn't break the bank at under 70 euro for 3 courses (no drinks though except coffee). At a time when value for money is to the fore in most peoples minds, Deep certainly has got it right - great food, excellent service and good value for money! We will be back!

This was about our 6th visit to deep and unfortunately our last. Wings were nice, but tasted a tad old, calamari was nice but i suspect frozen, his steak was overcooked and our chips never arrived, even after prompting staff. Fish and chips were nice. Lots of other great restaurants on the pier so until it improves we'll put deep on our reject list. Lots of room for improvement. I might be underscoring atmosphere as it was a wednesday and the place was empty apart from one other couple. But we felt because it was very quiet the food and service should've been far better.

I will never, ever go to deep again.I liked the ambience and small touches on the deco. The food was tasty and made with a lot of care. The one and only thing that put me off my dinner was the arrogant and pretentious manager that threw me my food.I would have had better service in a drive through. If its good food you want without the service then deep is for you,but if you want the whole experions then avoid the place.

Response:
I disagree about the manager being rude. Although our experience left a bad taste, the manager, even though they forgot things we ordered, did try her best to over compensate and was extremely apologetic. We found the food let the place down, not the staff.

Came here for an early bird on a FridaY. I've been to deep a few times a few years back and wasn't totally mad about it but I've to say twas pretty nice. There's a really good choice on the early bird. I had deep fried calamari to start (yum - amazing batter) and a szechuan prawn stir fry which was also tasty (yum - even for a stir fry). Nice chilled out atmosphere. good. nice

Good selection of dishes for anyone who isn't too keen on fish! I had the seared organic salmon which was beautiful but the stir fried veggies and noodles were a bit soggy. His fish and chips were a big hit. Massive home cut chips and a light crispy battered cod. Food was a bit slow in coming but service and attention was good. Worth a visit on a cold February evening.

Superb. We had lunch here on Friday, a gorgeous 4 course lunch for 24.95. We both had calamari to start - it was served with a generous and very tasty dip. The fish and chips were gorgeous and the portion size was great. We choose lemon tart and bread and butter for dessert and both were goegeous. The service was friendly and efficient. Definately worth a speedy return visit.

Avoid Deep! Deep used to be one of my favourite restaurant in Howth but I wont be going back again. They are cutting corners left right and centre and the quality of the food is suffering. I went in August and had a dodgy meal where my rear steack came out and was still actually frozen in the middle, icy crystals for all to see when I cut into it. But gave the place the benefit of the doubt as it was always great, but this weekend it was not any better and over all the menu is very overpriced for what you get. My goat cheese starter was pretty disappointing as it was a breaded piece of cheese, it wasn’t fresh cheese which for €9 id expect, it lacked salad or so much as a cracker to pop the cheese on! For main course my mother had tasteless piece of hake and I had watery lump of cold - both of which HAD to have been cooked from frozen, they were most definitely not fresh – which is terrible considering restaurant is situation on Howth fishing pier! It was a Saturday night and the restaurant want even half full - word of mouth travels fast in tight knit communities, cutting back on quality is asking from trouble as people wont stand for it. I’m afraid I would not recommend Deep to anyone, I gave it a second chance myself and that was worse than the first disaster!

This is my second visit to deep and the second time I was a little less then satisfied. The first time my seabass was the size of a mackrel. They gave me a fiver off the price, but it was still really bad value. The food for rest of the dinner party was good; however the food is overpriced for what it is, which is my biggest gripe. The second time I got the Seabass again and it was much better. The service was a bit patchy though and a little un-professional at times which made the high price hard to swallow! I won't be rushing back.

We had guests for the weekend and took them to Deep for lunch. Fabulous, good quality seafood (well they've not excuse not to with that location!) Excellent service and a great little wine list too. The portion sizes are very generous. 2 of our party had steak sandwiches and they could easily have gotten away with sharing one! I had the chowder which was really excellent and noticed that the seafood platters are pretty good as well. Looking forward to going back!

I ate here for lunch with two friends last Sunday. It was my first visit to Deep and I was very impressed with the standard of food. There's plenty of choice on the menu and I could easily have chosen 5 or 6 of the starters. We had the goats cheese crostini, calamari and prawn cocktail and all 3 were delicious. For mains we got the sole and the salmon. The sole in particular was fantastic and i'd recommend you try the green beans with feta cheese on the side. Try to leave room for cheesecake, its amazing! The service for very friendly and informal without being intrusive. The bill was a bit larger than i expected but it was worth it for the superb food. I've eaten in Deep's more illustrious neighbour recently but I think the food here is actually better.

Had lunch in Deep on 17th August 2009 and was very disapointed with the quality of food. Chicken wings were greasy and the hot sauce was not hot. A motzarella and tomato tart was comprised of tasteless cheap motzarella and flavourless unripe tomatos in a dry and brittle tart case. A limp salad of more unripe tomatos, red onion and leaves was dressed with a tasteless pesto type dressing. I wont be back. The waitress staff were very overworked and professIonally pleasant.

Was here for early bird. Really good value - 2 courses for 19.95 + a glass of beer. Restaurant was buzzing. Tables close together but still private. Would highly recommend the house wine - Arrogant Frog, superb. Food tasty. Will be back for more. If booking a table, ask for window seat.

Was in Howth on Saturday & went here for lunch. The food was nice but not spectular. We shared a reasonable sized fish platter with a couple glasses of wine. There were 4 different types of fish on the platter (smoked salmon, fish cake, calamari, crayfish) with bread and dips. At €40 (including coffee) I did think it was a little expensive for a lunch for two but it was enjoyable.

After a long hard day's fieldwork we dropped into Howth in preference to returning home to cook. After inspecting the various establoshments on Howth's West Pier, decided on Deep, particularly as it had a (2 course) early bird menu for 19.95 euro. Given the location, there is a strong, tho' not exclusive, emphasis on fish. We tried the fish cakes, the cassoulet of seafood, and a risotto (NB the early bird menu is more extensive than the sample of these pages). Well cooked and presented - and a "special" of a Heineken promo with the early bird menu (yes, I know, Heino, but still!). Thoroughly recommend what is a relative small restaurant (although linked to the Italian next door). Only pity is that it is a long way from the southside. The food is very good, it is plentiful (not always the case with early birds), wine by the glass is very acceptable, service is attentive and very professional. Overall excellent.

Visited Deep last weekend, would have always rated this as an excellent restaurant, recommended it to many and enjoyed visiting it many times. Was totally disappointed, food was pretty mediocre - Spring Roll was good, fish and chips were not cooked properly, both were raw in the middle and dessert was a pathetic excuse of a creme brulee which tasted like custard sprinkled with cinnamon. Will not be visiting here again.

My boyfriend and I went here Bank Holiday Monday and I was disappointed. I had the fishcakes and my boyfried had the goats cheese to start. His starter was lovely but mine, while tasty, was absolutely tiny. For mains I had the chicken and my boyfriend had the fish. I wasnt' happy with mine at all. The lyonnaise potatoes were soggy and the onions on them burnt. The chicken was gorgeous but it didn't make up for the potatoes. My boyfriend loved his fish but he thought his chips were very soggy and could hardly eat them. All in all I wouldn't come back here. We paid over 50eur for 2 starters and 2 mains and it was definitely not worth it. I have eaten far better for far less.

Was here on Sunday & it was very busy. The food though was great. I especially receommend the salmon. Did think it was quite expensive for a Sunday afternoon but was thoroughly enjoyable.

Ate here on Sunday, Howth was packed as the sun was out and the place was very busy. The fish was cooked perfectly and so fresh. It really makes all the differnence. I think the place did lack atmosphere. Calamari starter portion is very generous in size and good value.

decided to go to Deep with himself last sunday as we were out in Howth for the day, my sister and i had been here a couple of times before and alwys enjoyed it! however this visit was a bitter disappointment....:( himself went for the fishcakes as a main and i went for teh monkfish goujons and chips! they arrived out within minutes too quich if u ask me we had barely even got our drinks. His protion consisted of 2 tiny cakes and a small bit of salad, my goujons werent much better, approx 3 of them overcooked wit no taste of anything, infact ive eaten better fishfingers! our chips were in a communal bowl to be honest they werent too bad altho hapfway through the waitress came over and took our ketchup off us for another customer, pretty bad considering we werent finished eating. we declined desserts and settled for tea for 2, the water was only lukewarm and for someone like me who takes there tea milky this was a diaster. The meal wasnt cheap either and while i dont mind paying for good food it really bugs me when somewhere like Deep overcharges for mediocore food! Dont think il be back...well certainly if himself has anything to do with it!

Went to the rather newly opened Italian pizza place that run's in collaboration with the people in deep. To start we shared a very decent meat platter that at eur 10 contained everything you could ask for. We then had each a pizza that i deeply regret that we finished, it was delicious and very feeding. should have asked for a doggy bag and finished it the next day. Needless to say we could not manage any dessert but they looked tempting enough so next time maybe. The Chianti that accompanied the meal was nice also and moderately prized at eur 20. Staff where good and not intrusive.

Although it’s on the other side of the city, for me Deep is well worth the journey. The menu is compact, but what they, do they do well. It’s an unpretentious restaurant wherein the very amiable and attentive staff serves up good sized helpings of great food. “Seafood and Sancerre”…..Need I say more?...Well ok, the deserts are great too! Go on treat yourself, you won’t regret it.

The night we eat at this restaurant, the weather was wild. So we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. So obviously it was devoid of atmosphere. I had the calamari for starter which was very tasty and well presented (you would expect this due to its proximity to the port!). The main course i had was Chicken And Wild Mushroom, very tasty dish. Would only go back if it was busier next time!

very dissappointing night last sunday, arrived at 8pm to be told they might be closed! at 8pm?? Calamari to start, very soggy, lamb and fillet both overcooked and charged for side orders, staff unwelcoming and we felt that we were infringing on their time. Won't return, don't agree with previous reviews at all. There's a recession going on, they should value every customer!

My Husband and i visited Deep restaurant last weekend, not for the first time i might add,we have eaten there several times, and have always found both the food and the atmosphere very enjoyable and the staff extremely friendly and courteous. We had a wonderful meal, mixed seafood platter for 2 (we can never resist! ) as it has all our favourite sea-food,calamari,prawns, cray fish, smoked salmon etc,and is always delicious. I had the fillet of beef and my husband, the lamb, both of which we thoroughly enjoyed....cooked to perfection. We couldn't manage dessert on this occasion, but had a lovely bottle of red wine from a really interesting wine-list and frothy cappuchino coffees to finish. Lovely food, great service and a cosy friendly atmosphere. We will be back again, for sure!!!

This was the second time my fiancé and I ate at this restaurant and we had a most delicious meal. It’s unbelievable how they remember a face. The food was faultless, starters of prawns pil-pil and the tomato and basil soup, excellent. We even managed to get the recipe for the soup. Our mains of rack of lamb and Seabass, which was presented in a banana leaf, were also excellent. We were just too full for the desserts after such a lovely meal. However, we were very disappointed to experience one of the staff being insulted by an unreasonable customer at another table. This was totally out of line and the staff member was extremely professional in dealing with the situation. Anyways, the service was great, really friendly and efficient. Can't wait to go here again.

Visited Deep restuarant again last Sunday. I have to say, Im very surprised by some of the other reviews!! Have dined here several times and the service and quality of the food has always been excellent. Last week was no exception. It was a very busy Sunday afternoon but the staff were really on the ball, and extremely friendly and welcoming. The food was fantastic too. Got prawns and chicken wings for our starters, both were excellent. For mains, I had the cod and himself had the fish and chips. Again, both were really tasty. Had just enough room left to share a baileys cheesecake which was gorgeous!!! Fantastic service and lovely food, would recommend it to anyone, will definatly be back soon!!! :)

Visited this restaurant last week, food not bad. But portions very small not sure if they are staying true to the recession. Service was extremely poor, found the staff very uncompromising and arrogant as if we were doing them a favour to be in their establishment. Places like this would tar the name of howth, shame as could be a gold mine if had the right management. Lets say i'll be giving this restaurant a wide berth.

We decided to call into Deep about 3.45pm yesterday afternoon. Starters were good and I had the cod and chips for mains which was delicious. Himself had the burger and it was over cooked and a bit tastless. We had to wait a bit on the mains and the place wasn't packed. However it was good and I'd give it another go again.

I have dined here several times and was never impressed by the service but was truly appalled on my last visit. We were a group of 5 and having been informed that ta number of the seafood dishes were no longer on offer, were left waiting for one hour and a quarter for our starters. Although we were compensated with a complimentary bottle of wine for our wait, by the time food arrived the hunger was such that we would have eaten anything. On previous occasions staff have seemed unfriendly and somewhat arrogant - a shame really because the food is actually very good.

This is one of my favourite eateries in Howth. I have eaten here a number of times and it is consistently good. For the cold winters' nights, try the suasage and mash. If you're in Howth for the fish, Deep will not disappoint. The calamari starter is one of the best in the land. Coffee is well made in Deep and the selection of wines is pretty decent. There is a specials menu and an early bird option provides good value.

Visited on a Sat night and added 2 people to table (4 to 6) in the afternoon, no problem. Nice atmosphere with some unusual art. No spirits menu so couldn't have gin and tonics but they still managed an Irish coffee afterwards. Starter platters were great for sharing- hot calamari, mussels, smoked salmon, etc. Main course of fish & chips came with tasty pea puree, a little overbattered but the batter was tasty and the chips delicious. Desserts were rich and indulgent, we only had room for one. A fun place which stacks up well against Howth competition, doesn't take itself so seriously but serves up good food.

Went for dinner on Sunday night and was really disappointed. I ordered humus and flat bread – not a lot for €9.50! I ordered calamari for a main – it was cold. So they did not charge for it but did not offer an alternative. They brought the wrong dessert. They did not have the wine I wanted. I had only heard good things about Deep but I found it a real let down – very badly organized.

Sat 30th was our first visit to Deep. The decor was not what I expected (a little dull)and the tables very close together. The food was excellent and the waiters extremely friendly,my companion found the pork belly the best he'd ever had.At 33 euro I found the fillet of beef a tad overpriced although it was cooked exactly as I ordered. Unfortunatly the veg and chips did not arrive with the main course and although the veg. followed fairly quickly the chips did not arrive until the main course was finished!!! The waiter was apologetic but we did feel that a token may have been offered maybe a free dessert or even a drink. Needless to say we sent the chips back and we were't charged for them but we both felt that this was not dealt with very well. The food would probably encourage me to give this restaurant another try although they might improve their attitude towards customers when things go wrong an apology isn't always enough.P.s the wine list is quite varied but as with a lot of restaurants I wish half bottles were included.

Six of us were there on Sunday for lunch/dinner. We were waiting a good while for our food. The portions were not very generous at all. I must admit though the food was rather tasty but definitely over-priced, the bill came to 190 for six people only got a mains each and a mineral!!

I had a dinner reservation here last Saturday. I had never been but my friend had been there a number of times and now I know why. The staff were very friendly and the room was bright and airy but not over fussy. We had 2 starters calamari and oysters both delicious. Mains ordered were seafood cassoulet and pork belly. The cassoulet was recommended by the waitress which was an excellent choice. We were too full for dessert and settled with coffees. Bill was very reasonable priced. I would definitely return and would highly recommend to other diners.

I really enjoyed the food at this resturant. The waitress who took our order was very helpful and offered anything on the menu in a childs portion as the kids burger was finished for the day. The white wine was chilled to perfection. The chicken wings were tasty and the portion size was large. I had the calzone for my main cousre and it was fab and the side salad was a good complement to it. On the negative side we had to ask was our second course on the way as quite some time had passed from when they lifted our starter. Some of the startes were a bit on the expensive side for the size of the portions. Atmosphere was not great but we were there early eveing and things were begining to pick up as we were leaving, looking forward to trying it again as the food was really tasty.

Being a local, I love eating in this restaurant. I ate here once again last night with 2 others and were all very impressed with the place. The service was prompt and very friendly, whilst the food was delicious as always. Between the 3 of us we had 2 starters, 3 main courses, 2 desserts, 3 coffees including an irish coffee, 1 bottle of the house red (€22) and 3 tiger beers with the bill totalling €150, which is good value considering the quality of food and location "Deep" has to offer. Looking forward to our next visit!

We found a table here on a busy bank holiday Monday. The service was friendly, but the food slightly disappointing: the seafood platter for a starter was deep fried and oily dishes, the main of seafood risotto was dry and flavourless, while the mushrooms in puff pastry and gorgonzola were heavy and too salty. We paid 78 euro, with a beer and a glass of wine. To me that's not superb value.

We visited during a busy bank holiday night. The starters consisted of calamari and oysters, mains of swordfish, cod, tiger prawns and lemon sole. Each plate was wiped clean to exhalations of delight. The service was outstanding and our guests were most pleased. Excellent.

First time to this restaurant and was disappointed as the menu presented to us was not the same as on Menu Pages - this one was much shorter and a lot more expensive! However, we both had the soup to start which was mushroom and tarragon and was extremely good. Mains were for me, chicken served with salsa, and swordfish for husband- both very good, well presented and cooked. The side orders were a complete let down. Mixed vegetables - a bowl of what appeared to be frozen mixed veg sitting in water did not excite the palate, and the "home fries" looked suspiciously like the commercial frozen variety. I would expect better considering the prices charged. Service was professional and fast. Very nice decor but sadly this restaurant is lacking in atmosphere. There are better restaurants in Howth which offer more value for money. We would not in a hurry to return any time soon.

Howth is such a lovely place to unwind from the hustle bustle of the city. While shopping for seafood,my friends and I stumbled upon this restaurant which had a catchy menu on the window display. The interior is modern and posh. However I must express my disdain that quite a few items on the menu had run out at an early lunch hour.Being wedged by fishmongers that are packed to the brim with seafood, this does not reflect well on the restaurant. Moving on, the seafood platter was simply gorgeous with a variety of smoked fish and battered prawns with a side helping of salad. The soda bread served as an accompaniment was the best I have tasted so far.Meanwhile the plaice was as expected.Chicken wings were extremely tasty too. We simply didnt have enough room for dessert, but the molten chocolate cake looked irresistible. Will be back!!

This restaurant seems to be going from strength to strength. The selection and quality of food is excellent. Seafood dishes are wonderful. Good wines by the glass and a reasonably priced wine list generally speaking. Good value for money for seafood - other more established restaurants in Howth are far more expensive. Prawn with Chilli oil starter is amazing!

Left this restaurant extremely disappointed yesterday. We decided to head out to Howth for the day as the weather was more like a cool summers day. Decided to try Deep out & were met by a friendly Waitress who said they could accomodate myself my partner & our baby of 15mths - first impressions were good until we sat down.. We were given dinner menus@ 2pm in the afternoon, Sunday lunch is obviously one of the busiest trading days for Restaurants in Howth but dont think this is a reason to try to rip customers off by charging dinner prices at this time of the day. We were then approached by a waitress who developed an air of arrogance when we asked for a highchair - in her words " oh no we dont have high chairs here " - so in the end we decided to leave at this stage the same waitress who has a bit of an attitude problem couldnt have cared less that they dont cater for young children.. 2 customers on different tables around us commented to us that it was disgraceful that they didn't even have 1 high chair for the entire restaurant. Definitely won't be back & won't be recommending this place to anyone we know.

I had dinner here with 3 others and all the food was of a very high standard, prawns, beef fillet, side dishes etc. However my beef was medium rather than rare as requested. The service was fine but I thought I lacked a little in atmosphere, and they prices were on the high side.

Visited here on a Saturday night, coming up to the busy Christmas period which will probably explain why the service was very slow that evening. It took 40 minutes to get our starter & though the staff were really apologetic and explained that they had a number of groups in that evening, it really took the good out of the evening. I had the goat’s cheese in filo pastry for starters and it wasn't the best - there wasn't enough goat’s cheese in it! Had beer battered fish and chips for my main - just like posh chipper food really. In all, I was a bit disappointed with this place. I'm not sure that I would go back here or maybe if I did, it would be at a quieter time of the year.

Deep, in Howth, is definitely worth visiting. It serves the best buffalo chicken wings north of the Liffey. And the scallops in puff pastry special that the four of us had was wonderful. We had lovely, friendly service from a charming Sardinian waiter - his recommendation of the Tiramasu was spot on; it was the genuine thing made by a real Italian chef! There is a good selection of reasonably priced house wines. The pier in Howth is becoming an much more interesting place to visit now with a few new fish restaurants opening recently.

Four of us dined here on a Friday in November. The food and service were excellent and the overall value for money was great. The only failing was that we were seated by the swing door that leads out to the toilets, which for the two of us who were not seated inside on the bench was at times grim and frequently chilly. The calamari was so good that we all had it as a started! Three of us then had the ray, which was fantastic, while the fourth declared his monkfish to be a winner. A selection of desserts and some very agreeable pinot grigio completed this very enjoyable meal. We will back soon!

This is a lovely restaurant in a nice location. It was very busy and we were seated in the new part, deep 2, however the original dining room seemed a little more upscale even though it is all the one restaurant. The staff were friendly if a little rushed off their feet, therfore appearing to be a little impatient. The specials are displayed on a blackboard, which is literally propped up beside you if you wish to look at what's on offer, and moved from table to table. The lamb shank fell off the bone, as a previous reviewer had commented and the fish dishes all went down very well. I had pasta with clams, which was a little bland, however the pasta itself was "al dente" and therefore cooked to perfection. We had a bottle of wine, which was very nice and a few beers. We skipped dessert. Overall this is well worth a visit and I would definitley return.

My wife and I had dinner here on Sunday last. We called in at about 7.30 without a reservation and they found us a table, some few minutes later they were turning people away. We shared a starter of goats chese and I had the fish and chips whilst my wife had a steak. Both meals were delicious and we left without dessert. We have been here numerous times and always find it a good experience.

I was sitting in the new part, which is really nice. The food is lovely but starter monkfish at 14.95 is very overpriced for the amount that was in it, and desserts are very dear. The place had a lovely atmosphere the night we where in.

Had a quick bite today for lunch. It was quite busy which was nice. The waitresses were very pleasant if a little inexperienced. Not a lot of finesse in the service. Ordered Crayfish open sandwich and my guest the calamari. A short time later we were informed it was off so we both had calamari and fries. Very nice indeed. Finished up with a cafe latte outside so I could enjoy a cigarette. No ashtrays provided. (Just a note - My colleague was here 2 weeks previous and had the calamari. They really enjoyed it but were stunned to see a waitress at the passé chatting and then took a calamari ring off the plate and ate it as it was being prepared! Note to the staff - It is not professional and it’s not very nice!

Ate here Friday night. Had the early-bird menu. Chicken wings were delicious. Had Fish and chips for my main and it made a nice change from the usual main courses available. Very well laid out, plenty of space.

I have been to Deep several times and have been happy with it every time I went. I love the buffalo wings and for the main I love the fettuine with scallops and prawns with vegetables its really nice. The staff though could be a bit more attentive to the customers. Overall I am happy with it. Death by chocolate is amazing.

I love Deep's Calamari. They are the best in Dublin, if not the entire world!. Their Fish and chips come a close second, and what about that crayfish pasta!! This is a seriously good restaurant using perfect ingredients, and treating them with tender loving care. The staff are soo nice too. Love the place!

We dined in Deep a couple of weeks ago, The food seemed good on that night though we were both jetlagged and couldn’t finish our food (it was the early bird) So the following week we returned, we ordered the exact same dishes but this time both were awful: The fish cakes had been reheated & reheated in oil and were dripping in it & left a nasty aftertaste, they were garnished with this comical looking salad undressed but covered in diced red peppers lots & lots of them: My husbands steak was served with potato wedges which were nothing short of a disgrace, the steak was lying in a very unappetising brown jus and the whole lot garnished with a large salad the exact same salad that garnished the fishcakes. Yep lots & lots of diced red peppers. When we asked the waitress had the chef changed from the previous week she said she didn’t think so. I asked her to let the chef know that we were very dissatisfied with our food; she said she would but didn’t return to us to let us know. There was nothing taken off the bill even though my husbands meal was untouched. The staff are young and they hang around the desk chatting all the while, leaving the diner feeling a tad uncomfortable: There didn’t seem to be anyone in charge. I will not be returning.

I thought this was a great restaurant when it first opened. Sadly, though, I don't think it has maintained its early standards. The menu has not changed much and the service has disimproved. I think it good do with a food and service makeover!

Dined in Deep last weekend and I am longing for my next visit! The food was excellent. I had the Buffalo Wings (best in Dublin) and Sea Bass main and can still recall the pleasure. My partner had the calamari and the fish and chips and loved it. Great choice in desserts followed and I have to say the lively atmosphere and excellent decor just rounded off a very pleasant experience. I'm looking forward to a luncheon date there next week.

I eat in Deep quite regularly. When I’m back in Howth its where I like to spend my money and eat good food. The variety on the menu is excellent and it does not fail to deliver. Paul the head chef puts out excellent food. I'm looking forward to my next trip back to Howth.

Quite disappointing. Went there twice because I live in Howth. Early bird menu is disappointing and I don't like to see fish and chips as the fish course, especially in a good restaurant in Howth. Wine list is absent any good chardonnays. Staff are indifferent and spend a lot of time standing behind the counter, chatting with each other. Service is less than basic, which I find in other restaurants in Dublin also. Main menu is better, but for those who like good value doing an early bird, don't go here!

Deep needs a shake up! A very recent visit for lunch proved disappointing. Slow service, mediocre food and expensive bill-€170 for 5 people(We had no wine or minerals). Starters were fine but mains aren't great. The Rib eye steak wasn't exactly stunning and the Pesto pasta was literally swimming 1 cm of oil- it was ruined. Everything was over buttered, over oiled and over creamed which in this day and age is a surprise with a lot of people opting for a more healthy option. I won't be back.

Have been here several times and can be very hit or miss, my most recent visit was on a Saturday night and the restaurant was extremely busy - so busy it was hard to have a conversation. Food isn't bad, a little on the pricey side and again service can be mediocre. Early Bird is a little pricey at 29.95 (3 courses and coffee) might be better to have a 2 course (and coffee) for a bit cheaper. Nice location though.

Very impressed! Loved the decor; loved the atmosphere; loved the food. Service was disappointing - too slow. We were seated right away but then waited over 10 minutes for the menus. More time passed before we were offered drinks; even more time before said drinks arrived. We had our toddler with us in a pram - no staff offered to help us in or out of restaurant. Thankfully there were a couple of kind patrons who did or I'd still be standing in the rain with a sleeping child! However, our dining experience was such that we will return for the food and atmosphere on a Saturday night with babysitter at home so we can enjoy a long lingering meal. Then the service might be acceptable.

I ate in Deep on Saturday with my boyfriend it was a well deserved treat for us but unfortunately it did not turn out that way! We ordered a €28 bottle of wine which was opened by screw cap by the waiter a real turn off for a start. Starters were nice it was the main course that was a disaster by boyfriend had to chase his €28 steak around the plate it was like rubber! I had the monk fish and prawns and they just looked up at me depressed like they had been dead for a long time and turns out they tasted that way too! I would not return to Deep it was a real disappointment and ruined our Saturday night :-(

I ate here last weekend for lunch and was thinking about it all week... the menu looked so fabulous I skipped breakfast on Saturday just to enjoy it. The food was fab, one of our party ordered soup, and the other 2 shared the seafood platter. Only quibble is put the salmon on two pieces of bread. Then for the mains, one king prawn dish, one fish and chips and a cod and mash. Food was of excellent quality and the staff were very friendly. Tables are nicely spaced apart as well. Only Complaints: The servings of wine by our waitress were much smaller than everyone else’s and it took 45 minutes for the starters to arrive.

We ate here Saturday two weeks ago and I am still fuming that my friends who were picking up the bill, parted with hard earned cash for such rubbish. We arrived on time for a table that was previously booked. They had no table ready so we stood in the middle of the room and waited while they moved other patrons to accommodate us. We then waited for about ten minutes for menus. After ordering, the food arrived in an instant - iinstantly giving off the vibe it had been plated and waiting for hours, and boy did it look like it! My female friend who had travelled all day from Port stewart looked sadly down at her three tiny pieces of monkfish and two sad lonely prawns. Her husband ordered fish and chips and the chips looked like they had been made a couple of days in advance and then blasted in a deep fat fryer - the chipper would have made nicer chips. I thankfully only ordered two starters. One was advertised as Dublin Bay Prawns and at nearly nine euro you would expect some juicy local prawns. The four sad little prawns were such a rip off. My advice is if you can't get a table in your favourite local establishment stay at home if Deep is your only option, order in a take away or just cook. It would certainly be better value and tastier. To round off a disastrous evening we got another tables bill; we were never asked if we wanted desserts and wandered home to have an after dinner drink feeling completely ripped off. As my Northern Irish friends said, money is harder to come by up North and a place like that just wouldn't survive. the only thing going for it is the atmosphere.

I've eaten here twice which says a lot I suppose. It is a little on the expensive side but the food is worth it. Their chicken wings are as good as they claim and the sea bass wrapped in banana leaves is great. Overall we recommend it.

Deep is a great place - only discovered it a few months back but apparently it has been there for 2 years. Great atmosphere, great staff, and great food using fresh produce at reasonable enough prices (the lunch menu from Tues-Sat is especially good value - Sunday is a good bit more expensive and they don't open on Mondays). A hidden gem!

Fabulous spot, lovely surroundings, even spotted a seal in the water by the restaurant! In keeping with the area I opted for the Pan–Fried Tiger Prawns in a coconut & lime sauce served with rice, absolutely delicious and my friend got the nicest looking Open Smoked Salmon Sandwich. The service was efficient and helpful. Definitely recommend trying this place out.
