We went as party of four for early bird, starters were tiger prawns, fish cakes, salad with new spuds and crisp bacon and grilled mushroom with pepperonata our party really enjoyed each one. Very good portions and service was extremely quick, all our party were happy with their choices. Our mains consisted of salmon with wild rice and hot honey sauce, 9oz sirloin steak grilled (med) with onion rings and raised beef and potato. The wild rice with the salmon was the best I have ever tasted absolutely divine, and the salmon with honey while unusual (for me) really worked well. Steak was cooked to choice (medium) and was beautiful, well presented. All dishes were cleaned off the plate. Would recommend to all and will be returning Very Very soon!

I went to the restaurant having bought an internet deal . On producing our voucher we were escorted upstairs even though downstairs wasn't full. Upstairs was completely empty and we were shunted into the corner on our own. It was totally devoid of atmosphere and we were treated quite badly for the rest of the evening, with a girl coming to attend to us every now and again. I was so annoyed at our treatment I can't remember what we ate but I do remember the sour taste it left in our mouths. Not a happy experience.

I have been visiting this restaurant since it first opened in 1996 and have to say that I have never had a bad experience here. The menus are regularly changed but always contain delicious real dishes, proper food prepared to perfection. The waiting staff are second to none, always have been, and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. There is always a great atmosphere here, happy and expectant. The only slight - very slight - drawback for non-locals may be finding parking but other than that, this is a restaurant you will wish to return to again and again. As I do!

Just before we left to go I read the last entry, and was afraid that the staff would begrudge us for using the menupaages deal. What was I afraid of? They seemed just happy to welcome us into their cute cottage, and were amazingly pleasent. We got their early and were given an excellent table at the window. When the menus came out we had a problem, out of the 10 or so starters, we wanted to share most of them, hard decisions because they were all so appetising. Settled on the pork & noodle springrolls. Fantastic. For the main we had the pork and lamb shank. All the meals on the menu are unpretentious and would not be out of place in any Irish kitchen. Well cooked and flavoured, leaving soft meats that go down a treat. Glad we took up the offer, as now we have another restaurant in our area to add to our favourites.

My partner and I went to the Washerwomans Hill restaurant on a Friday night with a menupages voucher; it was our first time to visit this restaurant. On arrival we were shown to our seats and given two cocktails which were included with the voucher by a friendly female waitress. A male waiter then came to take our order, he's only communication with us was "well?" as he stood beside our table, my partner then responded with "well, how are you?", where the waiter responded with "well, I'm the waiter, I take your order." We were both shocked and stumped by he's attitude, he was incredibly rude. He took our order for our shared starter and main courses and walked off without taking our drinks order. I was trying to catch he’s eye to order some drinks, but I honestly think he was ignoring us, eventually I did get he’s attention and ordered a bottle of wine. We got the shared starter of Mushroom bruschetta, which was lovely, very tasty. For main course, my partner ordered a burger and I ordered the sirloin steak, medium cooked. My steak was more well-done than medium but it was still nice although it was a little fatty for my liking. My partner really enjoyed he’s burger. We got profiteroles between us for dessert, these were also lovely. I did notice that the male waiter was friendly and chatty with other tables, so I’m not sure maybe he’s rudeness towards us was because we had a voucher and not paying full price from an al a carte menu. Overall the food was lovely, but the service was the worst I have ever experienced. It has really put me off ever returning to this restaurant, such a shame, because it really is a lovely little restaurant with nice food.

Came here with my partner when we won a menupages offer. Starter platter for 2, 2 mains and 2 cocktails. For starter we had the garlic roast mushroom with pepperonata and sour dough bruschetta. Was lovely. Sauce full of favour. Sourdough crusty and yummy. Mushroom however was a bit bland. Presented well though. For main had the 9 oz grilled serloin steak. Asked for mine medium rare. Was perfect!! Rarely get steak because it can be a difficult one to get right but it was yummy. Pink on the inside, juicy , moist and very tender. Full of flavour. The overnight tomato and baby leaf salad was beautiful. Was like honey and mustard sort of dressing. The fried onions were actually two very large fried onion rings. Were a bit greasy. For dessert I had the sticky toffee pudding. Cake part was nice could have been a bit moister and dessert could have done with more toffee sauce. Also, ice cream was shop bought. His dark chocolate mouse with strawberries proved to be very nice and rich. On arrival , we were given cocktail, cranberry and vodka I suspect. Were nice. Service was a let down. Both of us felt like we were treated indifferently. Everyone who walked in the door after us were warmly welcomed. We were just told to take a seat. Even throughout the meal we felt pressured to order drinks as when we asked to have our water jug refilled , the reaction was very disappointed that we didn't order wine. Myself and my partner are not big drinkers and it is up to us what we want to drink. Highlight of meal was the steak. Would return, maybe next time we would receive a warmer welcome.

Myself and my partner came here on a friday night. When we arrived we were told we could sit wherever we liked, so we chose a table in the middle of the restaurant. We were immediately given two cocktails as part of the menupages deal we had won. They were cranberry and vodka and tasted quite good. For starters, myself and my partner shared a ciabatta bread with a pepperoni and tomato sauce, topped with mushrooms. It was lovely although it could have been a little hotter. For our main course we both had the 9 ounce sirlion steak with fried onions and a side baby leaf salad. I requested that mine was to be cooked medium to well done and although the steak was delicious it was a little pink in the middle. This didnt bother me as the food itself was tasty. For dessert I had a dark chocolate mouse with strawberrys and cream. This was nice although very overly sweet. All in all, the night was good, the atmosphere was warm and alive and the food was good. Will be returning again soon.

My husband and I went to the Washerwoman's last Saturday and used the menupages coupon. We hadn't been there for a few years following poor food but decided to try again. The shared starter of smoked fish cakes were lovely as was my main of beef stroganoff. My husband's snapper was really good too but came without any sides. We ordered wine , desert and coffes and at no stage were we asked if any of the courses were good. We got the impresssion that, as we had a 'coupon', that we weren't regular dinners. We found the service very unprofessional and won't be venturing back again.

We went to the Washerwomans with a voucher from Menupages. It consisted of two cocktails, two starters and two mains for 34Euro. The cocktails were vodka and cranberry tasted great long time since I had a cocktail. for starters we had a dish of chicken and smoked ham hock shared tasted great. For mains we had sirloin steak and a lamb shank the meat fell away from the bone but way to much for me to eat so the dog will have a treat. The veg was cooked just right and baby potatoes. We had sticky toffee pud and wine which was not included in the offer you just pay extra. Tuesday the 3rd was a bad night with sleet and rain but the restaurant had 20 people which added to the atmosphere. Will be back great offer from Menupages and great value and a lovely restaurant

Where do I start. My husband and I attended the this restaurant yesterday at approx. 9.15pm. We were greeted and seated. This was fine. We had been there several years ago and everything was second to none. My husband asked about a beer they had in the past and the waiter seemed so disinterested. It took 30 minutes for our starter to arrive, a soup which had come out of a microwave too hot to touch for ten minutes and a smoked salmon which was one slice of salmon shredded in a hand full of salad and capers, certainly not worth 8 euro. We finished the starter and our dishes were still on the table when the main course came out. We both had stakes sirloin (the only one on the menu) this was tough and fatty. I had to remove several pieces from my mouth as I could not stomach it. There was a measly portion of veg which included four baby potatoes and this to be best of my recollection cost 23 euro each - not worth half of that. We sat there finished and still the waiter never checked back with us to see how the food was. We stood up and put our coats on and then he came over and apologised for leaving us there. I would have accepted this but it was not even a busy night we were one of four tables on that floor. Overall the food was poor, the service was appalling and I would never go there again. Would not recommend it to anyone else either. So sad to see a restaurant that was once so good fall so far.

I met with two old friends for a leisurely early bird dinner. It was the idea venue because the food was delicious and the service was excellent - unobtrusive and friendly. We weren't rushed over our food which was perfect because we were chatting and catching up. We'll definitely be back!

We hadn't eaten here in a couple of years and took advantage of a menupages voucher last week. The restaurant was buzzing when we arrived and the aroma as we walked in the door was very appetizing. The menu was extensive and eventually we decide on seafood starters, scallops and a seafood platter which included a fishcake and prawns, The seabass main was beautiful and perfectly cooked but the highlight of the meal was the lemon tart with lemon curd icecream, We 're looking forward to going back already.

Very quaint and cosy restaurant. Have been here several times. Food delicious. I prefer being seated downstairs as its a bit more buzzy and has a lovely real fire. Upstairs is lovely also but a bit dark (can't read menu without my glasses)

Went here with my friend for a xmas catch up. Bought voucher which incl mains. Side, cocktail plus a voucher for lunch in Canters Rest, Fairview to be used after Xmas. The food was great, I had seabass and my friend had chicken, both came with lots of veg and chips. The food was plentiful and the atmosphere is very cosy. Unfortunately the restaurant was very cold but that is honestly the ony complaint. Will definitely be back. Incredible value with the voucher, it cost e36.

We came here as we had a voucher. Its smaller than I had anticipated. It was nice and cosy and welcoming. Staff were very nice and we could see into the kitchen at the food being prepared which is always good. I had a pork belly pie which was very nice but lacked a bit of sauce. Other than that the food was quite nice.

Went back to the Washerwomans Hill Restaurant on a rare night out with the other half and once again found it an amazing experience. Right from arrival we were made feel very welcome. Normally I go with my mother to the have dinner on mothers day/ Christmas etc, basically when ever there is an occasion its myself and Mams restaurant of choice. This was the first time Eric had gone and he's raving about it ever since. The staff made us feel very at home and welcome on arrival and where in no way pushy at anytime. The meal was fantastic in every way with everything arriving to the table when it should and to the highest standard as would be expected when you go to dinner on a special night out. We left feeling full and satisfied and will return as soon as we get another break from our little man. 100% approval. Go there you won't be disappointed and there is loads local to the restaurant within walking distance if your night hadn't ended there.

I have passed this place tons of times & I was of the opinion that it was quite large inside but alas there is only 30 odd seats. We were greeted by an extremely pleasant waitress who was game for a laugh. We arrived early on a Tuesday so it was quiet enough when we got there but within an hour the place was full. There was a very good atmosphere & the waitress played a blinder, she was busy but never appeared under pressure and remained attentive and extremely pleasant & friendly. Food wise I had the soup to start which was tasty if slightly watery followed by a steak done to perfection. It was slightly fatty though. It came with mixed veg & I ordered a portion of chips too as I missed lunch! As it turned out I am glad I got the chips as the veg portion was quite small. The GF had wings to start which were a very good size followed by a burger which again was quite decent. Overall the food was very good but they should increase there veg portions, atmosphere very good & service top class - we shall return!

I went here with the family for a special event. It was busy for a Tuesday but the absolutely lovely waitress took good care of our party of 5. We all ordered from the early bird which was a starter, main and dessert for 26. When my Cranberry, Brie and crumpet starter arrived, it was slightly dissapoointing, the berries were gorgous, but I expected there to be a bit more cheese. I ordered the vegetarian strudel for main, and was bitterly disappointed. The portion was small, not-filling and quite bland. It didn't at all live up to the mouthwatering description on the menu. It did came with veg on the side that were tasty in their own right (and the waitress offered us more veg when we finished), but just didn't compliment the main. I was in the minority however, as all the carnivores raved about their mains. The desserts were the absolute business! Without doubt the nicest chocolate brownie I have ever tasted, and the other half couldn't have talked more about the panna cotta. Unfortunately, the early bird didn't include coffees or wine and overall the meal worked out very expensive.

Went for dinner on Sunday in the Washerwomans. Lovely cosy restaurant like a country kitchen (a little cold) but it was a cold night! The dinner overall was very good, food cooked nicely and good size portions. The service was good even though they were quite busy. Nice place for a relaxing dinner with family or friends.

First time here. Loved the old world feel but was very disappointed with the food. My husband started with the Potato and Chorizo Fritters. He could hardly taste the chorizo, it seemed to be mostly potato. Likewise my starter lacked taste. I had the crab cakes and again could hardly taste crab, just potato. We both had steak which was very plain with no sauces offered, Mine was very grizzley. Vegs were nicely cooked. Overall it was a very disappointing experience as we had been planning on trying this restaurant for quite a while. We won't be in a hurry back.

Visited this restaurant last night with a few friends. The first thing that hits you is the warm cosy atmosphere of the restaurant. It was quite busy for a Wednesday evening. I'm not surprised after tasting the food. Everyone had different starters and main courses and we enjoyed every bit of it. Definitely a restaurant worth a visit. The early bird 3 course menu was great value at €26.

I went here using a buy one main course get one free voucher from menupages. I shared a starter of crab cakes with my guest. I normally think crab is a bit rubbery but these were anything but. I chose the Barbary Duck for mains and my guest had the Loin of Pork. The duck was topped with carmelized onions and was delicious. My guest commented on how tender the pork was. My duck came with sweet potato gratin which was beautiful although I would have liked more. Our main courses were accompanied with a side of potatoes and veg, which were suitably crunchy. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed the meal however were both still a little hungry leaving. I'm not sure if it was the small portions or the fact we hadn't eaten all day but I think the portion sizes could definitely be increased slightly. The service was prompt and friendly, no complaints there.

VIsited this restaurant for the first time after buying the recent menupages deal of 2 maincourses and a carafe for 24. The restaurant had a nice buzz and atmosphere when we arrived and we were seated straight away by a lovely waitress. They had a set menu and a l'carte menu available and you could order from both with the voucher. Both menu's were interesting and had a good selection. We had the fishcakes and deep fried poached egg to start, both were very tasty. We both had the barbury duck with gratin potatoes for mains. It was excellent with a really good orange style sauce too. We had the panacota and peach tart tatin for dessert. The panacota was nice, the tatin ok, it was spoilt by being heated in the microwave which made it rubbery. The sevice was very good and the only small fault I would have is that €12.50 is too expensive for a very limited kids menu. Will definitly be back.

We had an early bird dinner this evening the customer service experience was outstanding , As it was my first time to visit I could not find the restaurant when I called to ask where they were located, I was given clear direction on my arrival a member of staff was waiting outside to point me where to park..Nice touch.. The restaurant is Cosy & Rustic with stoned high gloss blacken floors and wooden tables. I had a delicious starter of Deep fried pouched Egg with Bacon on a Roster Potato skin.Fab. My Friend had the Chicken wings big portion ..We had Fish and Chicken for mains it came with an array of vegetable and baby potato. Lots of Food... I will be back again but will be not have eaten so much before I arrive.. Nice Job Guys

My friend and I bought a menu pages deal on Tuesday for great value. We were able to book a table for the next evening. We walked to the restaurant so obviously had no trouble with parking. On arriving we were met by 2 staff members whom were extremely nice. We both ordered the steak and it was absolutely delicious and cooked exactly the way we had asked for it. There was a huge amount of food and the value for money was unbelievable, maybe because of the deal we bought but we definitely were treated well regardless on the deal. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to any steak lovers and the service was brilliant. They weren't in your face but made sure that we were ok. On leave we were offered to join their loyalty club which has great offers. I will definitely be returning in the near future.

My husband and I went here for an early dinner on Sunday for our anniversary. We decided to go for the Table D'hote which was 35 per person. On their website It's meant to include a bottle of wine but they said that promotion is over so it's just 35 per person (then please update your website). We would have gone for the early bird but the menu wasn't as good. The food was nice but it lacked flavour. I had the marinated chicken wings with ranch dressing but they weren't marinated in anything just plain chicken wings. We both had the lamb and again the lamb was lovely but it didn't come with a sauce just a dressing for the salad. The same for desserts, my husband didn't like his orange pudding and my chocolate brownie was ok but honestly I make a better one myself. The restaurant is a lovely spot and I'm sure we'll go back since we live in the area but we were both very disappointed. If we do go back we'd probably go for the cheaper option or for lunch but I wouldn't spend 70 euro for the set menu again. It's a real shame as we ate the takeout lamb shanks a few months ago and that was beautiful and great value. 4 mains for 40 euro. The staff were very attentive though.

I went back here as I hadn't been for some time. I wasn't disappointed. My friend just wanted a dessert as she had eaten earlier that day, but I had the two courses for €15 deal. There was a good choice. The spicey lamb was really tasty as a starter and the burger for main course was excellent. It was cooked to perfection and was melt in your mouth quality. I couldn't manage dessert, but my friend had the knickerbocker glory which was a little strange to say the least! She didn't enjoy it at all. It was very stodgy with lemon curd like substance in the bottom, trifle in the middle and cream on top. Wouldn't recommend theis dessert, but everything else was really good.

I have been here a couple of times. The food was very reasonable and the staff were very friendly. I did thnink that they were a bit rushed so I was left waiting for awhile for my food. There was aslo a party upstairs so the staff were a bit forgetful and my partner thought the portions were small. This is why I gave the value rating a 3. I will go again, but maybe during the week or early on a weekend.

Me and my boyfriend went there for dinner a month ago. Because we used the menupoints for a free main course, the value was good to us. The food was good, but really too oily and unhealthy, even the seafood tastes buttery and oily. My bf liked his duck meal. The service was good but just abit too noisy that night. Overall, its a good restaurant that we're going back again soon with the menupoints again, because it located beside our apt.

I had been really looking forward to trying this restaurant for my first time but was disappointed. Maybe it was because we had a table beside the open kitchen and the wait staff were constantly beside us so there was nothing relaxing about the experience. The downstairs is small with alot of tables packed in pretty close. The food was nice but nothing spectacular. I got the wrong main course but my correct dish arrived really fast. The staff were very pleasant. It was either one waitresses first night or her English wasn't very good as she didn't seem to understand what we asked her. I will give this restaurant another chance - I'll just make sure not to get a table beside the kitchen.

A relatively busy Saturday night, yet the staff were courteous despite being under pressure. The atmosphere was warm and friendly. The menu choice is varied, I had the Vegetable soup starter, obviously home-made, with warm and moist fresh brown bread. Delicious. Main course was rack of lamb, which was cooked to perfection, and garnished nicely. One complaint I had was the veg. Not what you'd call tasty. The carrots didn't taste of carrots, likewise the broccoli. Rather bland in fact! Desert was profiteroles, and they were delicious and fresh... Another minor complaint, was the slightly pricey wine list... Not overtly expensive, but hard to find value on it. I like eating here, and will return... I'm just very fussy obviously!

Went for the early bird on a Thursday which is slightly cheaper than usual as it is ladies nite.....3 course's for €20. I have eaten here on afew occasions and as usual I did not leave dissapointed. As we where there early the resturant was a little quiet but by the time we were leaving there was a great atmosphere and buzz about the place. Service was great and the food was fab, the only complaint was my friend did not like her desert but that was through no fault of the resturant, more because of taste. Wud highly reccommend this place of a family occasion, or friends getting together.

Judging by the other reviews here I seem to be the odd one out but I was very disappointed with our Sunday lunch here ... The place was "different" and the staff were friendly ..Even the starters were good .. But there it ended ... Three out of four of us had "Burgers" which were big and dry with some "Plasticy" cheese on top in a big doughy bun..hard ho eat without lots to drink... "Chunky Chips" were simply not nice... The vegetables were not "Al Dente".. They were HARD ! .. Lemon Meringue pie had nice meringue but the lemon bit was dense and slippery in the mouth.. Not Nice... The fourth person in our company didn't comment but also didn't eat his "Lemon Meringue" pie... €104 for four.

Have been here a few times but hadn't been for a few years, so decided to book it for my birthday dinner with the family. Great atmosphere in the restaurant and all staff are so friendly and welcoming. Food was absolutely delicious and the prices were better too, some good deals which is why we'll probably start using this restaurant more in the future. This would have been an expensive restaurant before but way more affordable now :) Thanks for a lovely evening!!

I was lucky enough to win a voucher from menu pages for this restaurant otherwise I would not have found it. It’s a quant restaurant, the staff are welcoming and friendly and the food is really good. I had the spring rolls for starters which were really light and crispy. I had the pork fillet for my main course in arabiata sauce and topped with mozzarella. Really delicious combinations of flavours. My husband had the lamb shank which was cooked perfectly and so was the mash potatoes. The shank is understandably the house favourite. All in all it was a pleasant experience and I would recommend this restaurant for good hearty delicious food.

Okay, I've had to base food and value awards on my earlier visits to Washerwomans - a place my partner and I would have eaten in every few months or so because it's close to our home and its food, service and value has been pretty good in the past. However, we had a table booked for 7pm last night (couldn't reserve through MenuPages...strange) and when we arrived the restaurant was busy but not full with some empty tables in the room. We were ushered upstairs - something which has never happened before - and shown into a dark, badly lit room that felt like a loft or old prefab. Unlike downstairs - the main restaurant - there was no atmosphere whatsoever, no music, candles, soft lighting - it was absolutely awful. Besides us the only other table occupied in the room was a young family. So we asked if we could be moved downstairs. We followed our waitress - who was lovely about it - and the maitre d' or main waiter told us to sit down at a table and he would try to have something for us in a 10 minutes (there were empty tables in the room!) so I tried to explain that we weren't being difficult we just wanted to eat where we expected to eat and before I could even finish my sentence he had raised his voice to tell us once again that we could sit down and he would find a table for us in 10...I noticed other diners looking over at us when this happened and couldn't help but feel slightly embarrassed about the whole thing. So we stood up and left and headed for town where we had the most amazing evening elsewhere - excellent food and happy staff. Shame we've been put off Washerwomans now - definitely won't be back.

This is a very good restaurant. The occasion was my son's 15th birthday. The service was excellent, friendly and efficient. The food was really good. We both had sirloin steaks and they were done exactly as we had asked. The early bird menu is reasonably priced at €26. It offers a good variety of courses to suit every palate. The decor is quite old fashioned but cosy. Will definately go again, and again.

Just back from eating at Washerwomans Hill with my husband and two children. A really pleasant first time experience which we hope to repeat. I have absolutely no faults with this restaurant and give top marks for the delicious food and excellent service. One tiny complaint was the restaurant was lovely and warm but when I went to the ladies it was freezing and also found the childrens menu a little dear at €12.50 for main, drink & dessert.

Myself and my friend ate here last thursday night. We wanted to eat off the Ladies Night Menu which turned out to be good value for money. We both had the goats cheese crostni which was very tasty, for mains i had the salmon which was basic and my friend has the confit off duck, she also said it was just ok. The resturant was busy enough so myself and my friend where seated close to the door, which was'nt the best table to sit at as it was very cold. This resturant is a handy place to go to catch up with friends but dont get too excited about the food.

This is a nice local restaurant that serves unpretentious food. The fillet of beef was perfectly cooked and was served with a tasty pepper sauce. The service was efficient and courteous. The only downside is that the dining room downstairs gets very noisy when full so conversation becomes a challenge. Overall however this is a restaurant well worth visiting.

I ate here recently as I had a menupages voucher. The last time I ate here was when it opened first. The service I experienced was very good both efficient and smiling throughout. We were initially seated downstairs which was a little noisy so I asked to be moved upstairs which was no problem at all. The food was very enjoyable. I started with a soup my dining companion chose a mushroom tartlet which he loved. We both had a perfectly cooked fillet of beef for mains. For desert I had a strawberry shortbread my companion chose an Eton mess. My only quibble would be that my desert was a tad mall in comparison to his Eton mess. We were the last to leave but we were by no means rushed something I really liked. This eatery has a pleasant atmosphere and is decorated with various different artifacts from the past which add to its attractiveness. I will be returning again and thank you menupages for the voucher.

This is a regular place for me to eat as it's local and also it really suits my mam as she is a coeliac and they have a lot of gluten free options on the menu. I was here in September for my man's birthday and they realy couldn't do enough for us, even had a menu printed up with happy birthday on it for her which i thought was a nice touch. The food as always was top notch. Really can't fault the place. Keep up the good work guys !

This was not a memorable dinner. The food was just ok (I had browsed their a-la-carte menu online but I was presented with a different one at the restaurant with some changes); I went for the pork which was ok. The portions in general seemed rather small and from the dishes coming out of the kitchen, I could see there is little originality in their food. The service was just so not engaging- they couldn't be bothered to make you feel special in any way. It is a lovely room, far out from the action and there certainly is some room for management improvement there.

We went for dinner here on Sunday evening. Very impressed. Scallops and crayfish starter was gorgeous. Very light and tasty. For main we chose rack of lamb and a sirloin. Both where cooked well and the meat was very tender. If i had to pick a fault the fat on the lamb could be a bit more crispy! But thats all. Good portion sizes , great food and very attentive staff. Would recommend!

Paid a visit to the Washerwoman hill Restaurant last night......new menu just on - fab! started with delicious salt and pepper calamari, followed with a duo of duck confit with toulouse sausage.....Mmm. don't usually go for dessert but couldn't resist the ' berry eaton mess' - crushed merangue topped with mixed berries, fresh cream and ice cream - yumm!! My partner had the salmon and scallop ceviche to start (marinated) followed by the rack of lamb, which was cooked just as he'd ordered. lovely night.

Went up here one eve for a quick bite, bit out of the way but it has a great local reputation. The decor is a bit dated & its a bit like a barn but the staff and food are lovely. Not a place for a romantic night out but if your in the area and looking for good food its a safe bet.

This restaurant is definitely trading on past performances and better times. The food is overpriced for what is served, much better value available in better class restaurants. The place has zero atmosphere and emptied very early the night we were there. Staff were waiting on us to leave at 9.30pm which made it uncomfortable to sit and relax after our expensive meal. Menu had stated that the chicken dish contained pesto sauce - chef must have run out of pesto as the dish had no pesto and food was quite dry. Desserts are way overpriced €6 for a slice of bought in apple tart! Pot of tea for two people was charged at €5, extortion!! Definitely one to avoid.

Lovely place, friendly helpful staff, food excellent and resonably priced. Always some good offer there eg. Father's day when we were last there we got a free bottle of house wine with our meal which went down well. left as always happy even though I had to drive him home! Ps. is not that lovely guy waiter one of the owners?

I had the risotto balls. They were interesting as I have never seen risotto done that way before. My partner had the prawns and I have to say they weren’t great, kind of bland and over done. For my main I had the chicken which was nice and the mash was very nice. A lot of my friends love the restaurant so I am sure I will go back. I just don’t think it’s the place for me.

I've been to this Restaurant once before today and from once I walked in the door I wondered why I hadn't been back since the previous time. I enjoyed it then and I enjoyed it even more this time. We were greeted by a very nice man that made us all feel very welcome. Sorry I don't remember his name. It''s so easy to get things right like clearing away wine glasses from the settings when they are children, like putting a bottle of their own very cold filtered water on the table without having to ask, also kids meals brought out while parents are eating their starters without having to ask etc but I find more Restaurants get it wrong than right but not this Restaurant. I had the Bruschetta and the chicken with a side of Vegetables all cooked to perfection,my Husband had the pork belly and the salmon again cooked perfectly. The desserts were shared and really good. We'll be back very soon.

Two of us visited on a thursday evening recently. The place was busy and there was a good buzz about it. The service was friendly and efficient. As we were shown to our table a carafe of ice water was placed on it without prompting. We chose the Earlybird menu which was on offer up to 7.45pm and there was no suggestion that we had to vacate the table at a particular time. The food was good and we enjoyed a very pleasent Foxwood syrah which did'nt break the bank. Overall a very enjoyable dining experience.

We went as a group of six to this restaurant. The staff were very friendy and helpfull. We found the special offers great value and the choice on the menu was great, we had three menus to choose from. We all enjoyed our meals especially the deserts. The only downfall was that one person in our party didn't receive their starters untill everyone had finished theirs. Overall though we really enjoyed the meal and the staff, atmosphere and food. I would give this restaurant 7.5 out of 10.

Sunday lunch - 9 of us. Some chose from the Sunday lunch menu and others from a la carte. The curry was so mild it was almost not like a curry - fine to eat but not spicy and not enough rice with it. The salmon was only ok. The vegetarian ravioli (I think it was butternut squash ) was bland. The marmalade bread & butter pudding was disappointing. The sticky toffee pudding was like a muffin wih a drizzle of toffee sauce - very poor. We told our friendly waiter when he asked how our meal was. He said he'd pass it on. The one positive was when we ordered coffee. They had no low fat milk so we passed on the coffee. But some one went out to the shops and got some so we had our coffee. Overall the food did not live up to the descriptions on the menu. Probably won't be back.

This place was a pleaseant surprise...nice food, way nicer than I woudl have expected from what I thought was a normal pub... The risotto was tasty and well cooked - and being Italian, I wouldn't say that if it wasn't true...!! Had salmon for main and that was also really nice and cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable and friendly staff alwasy make the food taste even better! There are always offers on during the week so worth checking out - a little off the beaten track if you are coming from town but I woudln't hesitate to recommend it : )

Had heard good things about this restaurant and so expected better. Won't be returning. Place is in need of refurbisment. Early bird menu with half bottle of wine cost €80, for the early bird?????. And my pet hate, the half bottle of wine was poured into and served in a caraffe. I have no idea where the wine came from and nobody. Service was efficient and pleasant. Food was average.

Downhill Cafe?? What has happened here? Can someone please bring back the old Washerwoman Hill Cafe? I had been to the Washerwoman on three or four occasions in 2008, sometimes with parties of European work visitors. They were wonderful, memorable occasions built on great food, a wonderful atmosphere and a heartfelt welcome. Sad to say, but I think these occasions may now be a thing of the past... I recall a hostess - professionalism defined, and one waitress in particular with a larger than life personality who made us feel so special. But now... a chill doth blow through Washerwoman Hill. On my last visit I felt like I was trespassing. Where once I felt welcomed, I now felt oddly uncomfortable. Never mind, I thought, the food will make up for it... the bruschetta was pretty tasteless ... To be fair my main course was very good, steak sandwich, lovely fries, nice veg... My friend's chicken was also well-received. I was excited about dessert - the WW's piece de resistance. But shock horror... no Belgian Waffles, no sticky toffee pudding. Instead a circular cheesecake, completely ordinary. I can only hope I caught the place on a bad night. Dare I risk trying it one more time or has the time come to find a new 'gem' instead?

Went here for family occassion and availed of the ladies special menu. The choice is excellent and the other members of the party went on the early bird menu. All the food was very good although the pasta dish was far too creamy. The staff were very attentive and helpful. The house wine is a little on the expensive side but a great evening was had by all.

Great place for small group who like good food and a good ambience to catch up, no pressure, and good service. Only €20 for special!

We had the early bird menu...there is a good choice, though nothing wows the palate. A very good local restaurant with good hearty food and friendly service.

Have been to this restaurant plenty of times and have always enjoyed the food, however the last couple of times i've dined here i found the food and service very bad. My last visit i ordered Carbonara and it was swimming in oil. When we complained there was excuse after excuse. The waiter comtradicted all we said. I would not recommend this restaurant, feel it has gone down hill rapidly. I shall not be going in future.

Had eaten here a few times before only to be disappointed, but as it is local we decided to give it another go. We went on a thursday evening and ordered off the early bird menu. The food was lovely as was the wine. service was fine until we paid our a bill and they took the change and never brought it back. It added up to less than the tip we had ready for the girl and needless to say we didn't leave any more of a tip. But it left a bad taste! Would probably go back but only for the early bird...and it wouldn't be my first choice.

We enjoyed it so much we commented to our waitress how nice she was and said it was a pity people did not express more how well they are treated. So here goes. Visited there last wednesday to celebrate family birthday, there was also another birthday celebration going on. The two waitresses on duty even sang happy birthday to both parties. Obviously a popular venue for such occasions. We were made very welcome we ordered from the early bird (€26) great value and choice and a la carte menu also great choice. The food was delightful and service excellent. warm atmosphere, very friendly staff, without being intrusive, The birthday celebrant had a great evening. On the whole a very enjoyable dining experience and look forward to next visit. Highly recommend giving it a try.

Visited here a few weeks ago for the early bird menu... It was midweek so it was relatively quiet and my wife & I were able to get a nice cosy table well away from the door. We both enjoyed our meal but weren't overly impressed. Like the layout of the restaurant but the food is what counts and I would say its standards definitely have slipped since I first started going there. It's in a lovely location so I hope the propieters take on the criticisms of my fellow diners & myself or else my next visit could be my last.

I completely agree with Frank. I was a big fan of the Washerwoman. I recommended it to 3 of my siblings who live on the south side who came a few times and spread the word. I arranged staff nights out there (25 of us) and my husband and I were there on our own & with other couples approx once a month over the course of a couple of years. On our last (never to be repeated again) visit, we went with my parents in law. We felt in the couple of times leading up to this that the food had slipped back a lot. Anyway, my father in law only wanted a starter & main course & ordered but his same two choices were available on the early bird menu as well as a la carte. The rest of us ordered from early bird and when it came to the bill, his meal cost MORE than ours even though there was no difference in portion sizes! When I queried this, the waitress was incredibly rude. I asked to speak to a manager and was told no-one was on duty.I rang back the next day and spoke to the owner's wife. She told me that the waitress was new and I probably mistook a lack of English for bad manners. I am extremely understanding of those learning a new language and know when rude is rude!!! Further to that, re: the bill I was told it was our job to inform them which menu we were picking off not theirs and said that was as much as she was prepared to say. I hasten to add we haven't been back but colleagues of mine have since had disappointing experiences there. Such a pity as the area really needs a decent, dependable restaurant.

Had a meal here last Saturday, have been before and enjoyed the experience. But last week with a baby sitter for our two young children were looking forward to a nice evening out but it was spoilt by the poor service. The food was good and the restaurant was busy but when we order one dessert and two baileys coffees the dessert was placed between my wife & me and the spoons were just dropped on the table and the waitress just walk off. The bill also included a dessert we did not have; I was not asked how was everything “Ok” when I went to pay. So I just paid my money and walk out the door never to return.

I absolutely love this place. I went here on a Friday night and it was busy but the service was still excellent. I had a chorizo and poached egg salad for a starter and it was amazing. Had duck for main course which was gorgeous and they have a very varied dessert menu so you don't get bored. I think it is over priced though if you deviate of the set menu. The rack of lamb is nearly €30 for very little meat and a small bit of mashed potato. But overall i think this place is great!

I had a meal here last Wednesday night with world war 3. She was very impressed with the friendliness of the staff and so that was a good start. Our meal was served up promptly and my steak was presented as ordered. The atmosphere was cosy and warm. We had a good bottle of wine, reasonably priced, and finished off with deserts and espresso. Unfortuneatley, world war 3 and I finished off that night too, but I will definitely be back soon. Great value and food.

I highly recommend the early bird menu. The rest of the a la carte menu is a little pricey and not much better in my opinion. The early bird does 3 course meal for 26 euro and we were impressed it even came with sorbets between the starter and main. Very fancy. It's never too crowded and service is efficient. The food isn't fantastic but it makes for a nice local restaurant with good quality food and prices.

Having recently moved to Eire from the UK I have settled in well in Glasnevin village. Myself and my partner are both in the travel industry and have irregular hours so to find this gem on are door step with its fresh produce cooked to the highest standards and the added bonus of efficient friendly staff .....well I cant see us getting much benefit from our new kitchen....with the early bird at 26 euro for three courses it truly is value for money...the wine menu is well thought out and affordable so we can save on the fuel costs on the car and indulge ourselves to a glass or two ....in the UK we have a saying the best of British we will be back alot

The Washer has been recommended to me a few times so I took the family down for one of the kids birthdays. To say value for money is an understatement we went for the early bird menu which had a wide choice including chicken, steak, salmon and duck we got a lemon sorbet between starter and main and a shock when the bill for 7 of us came to less then 140 with a bottle of wine.

I recently celebrated my daughters eighteenth in this restaurant. There were 15 of us, we all found the service to be fantastic, everybody served at the one time. One member of our party is quite difficult to please, but found everything on the early bird menu to be to her satisfaction. Overall a great night had by all, in a lovely atmosphere. Great value and friendly and welcoming service. I'd highly recommend it for any occasion.

I have eaten at the Washerwoman's very regularly since moving to the area a year ago. And be it with the kiddies for a Sunday lunch or the other half for a Romantic night out, we have yet to be disappointed with either the food or the service! They offer a great value Lunch and Early bird Menu with no compromise on quality or service!

The quality in this restaurant has really gone downhill and it is only a shadow of its former self. I was there with some friends to celebrate a birthday. Three of us arrived early and were waiting for the arrival of the fourth member of our party whom we told the waitress about but she still went ahead and removed his place setting. She seemed somewhat inattentive. We then had to ask for some bread which turned out to be a limp, sweet and mildly ginger flavoured brown bread which was totally unimpressive. My starter was a cooked smoked salmon with egg Florentine. Basically it was just a smoky and salty mess which was not in any way palatable. For me the fillet steak served rare. It was actually medium rare and tough, very very tough. It came with the added bonus of a hair for which the manager offered me (and me only but not my friends!) a free desert. I had a chocolate Sundae which was basically two scoops of a bland industrial ice cream covered in some strange syrup. To conclude, don’t waste your energy walking up the hill to this restaurant.

After reading a review in the Sunday Tribune saying this restaurant was wishy-washy. I said I’d give it a try and see for myself and I must say, it was very wishy-washy. I went with my husband and we found it the worst food we had in a long time. Starter was ok I had the crab meat & shrimp risotto, my husband had pork salad which was totally tasteless. I went for breast of duck which was disgusting; it was cold and very tough, I should have sent it back but I couldn’t be bothered. The vegetables were undercooked and also had no flavour. The dessert; profiteroles which were straight from the freezer. The quality of the food was very bad I definitely would not go back or recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff were also so overpowering they didn’t give you any time to decide from the menu & they were nearly taking the plates from under your nose before you had finished.

I have been here twice in recent weeks and had the early bird menu. This menu is available from 5pm to 7.45pm and is terrific value at 26 euro for 3 courses. To start, I had shrimp and crab meat risotto - yum! Followed by garlic and coriander chicken with a butter bean mash - really delicious, and finally the obligatory chocolate profiteroles! There is plenty of choice on this menu and the mains all come with baby potatoes and mixed veg. I was here a couple of years ago and very disappointed but this new menu is great and the staff are really nice. I'll definitely make this a regular.

Washerwoman's is a good spot if you have a family night/with someone who's doesn't do exotic food or need to go somewhere cheap and cheerful. The food is typical, steak, pasta etc but the portions are huge and the price reasonable. The atmosphere is good with an old world style and the service is down to earth and friendly. I can recommend the steak, veg and spuds were included in the cost of the meal the last time I was there

This is a local restaurant that doesn't have to make much effort as there is no competition. It needs the competition. Food isn't bad at all from the money. Staff are super, very helpful and friendly. Atmosphere is homely and bustley!! Love it!! Like I said though hardly an imaginative menu and needs to be reviewed. Family restaurant so if kids annoy you.... avoid it. I've been going here for years and it's never changed......not a good thing necessarily

I went on a very busy Tuesday night. Down stairs was full and we where seated upstairs with only one other couple. Staff where very nice but they must've forgot about us as we waited 50mins for our main course. Wasn’t impressed at all food over done plus funny taste off their chunky chips. Waited half for bill so we had to go down and ask again, the waitress where AS THEY FORGOT ABOUT US AS DOWN STAIRS WAS SO BUSY, that was there words. Won’t be going again.

I went here on a busy Friday evening, and the place was buzzing. We were seated upstairs, which I was disappointed by, as I preferred the downstairs area. The staff were extremely friendly and courteous, though the service was dreadfully slow. When our food came it was worth it. Really tasty and gorgeous presentation. Looking forward to going again.

This is one of my favourite local restaurants, the atmosphere is informal. The food is consistently good. The staff are friendly and chatty. It can get a bit noisy if there's a large group dining but that's part of the atmosphere

Good food but very small downstairs room - not the place for intimate chat as the tables are extremely close to one another. On my last visit there was a family outing with three loud small children and a crying baby - this was at 9.00p.m. I have no problem with children in restaurants but I think that parents should keep control of them especially at night.

Very impressed with this little spot. Drove past it on the bus for about 20 years before I realised it was there very easily missed. Small cosy homelike place with great food and wine. Well worth a visit.
