I had won a voucher for free lunch for two here, which was valid for the two-course lunch special during weekdays. I had soup of the moment and the bruschetta. The soup was chickpea and onion-yummy! The bruschetta was a bit too greasey for my liking. It is a pet peeve when restaurants drown your food in dressings/oils. However I was offered the option of a dessert in good will. Nice touch! The other half had the bruschetta to start (on white bread, was less greasy than the brown....) and chicken as the main. He was fully satisfied. I would go back as there were other things off the special menu that i'd like to try.

Dropped into the Bay restaurant a number of times recently for lunch and breakfast. This is a small cosy restaurant however I think the tables are too close together for a romantic night out but it is the perfect location for a nice lazy lunch or breakfast. I like the calorie count on the menu's and it definately puts me off what i would really like to order which is good I think? One day I really felt like a big Irish breakfast settling instead for the health option. The food is nice and the service is brisk and the staff are friendly, they always seem very busy as I pass this restaurant regularly. For breakfast and lunch the food is good value. Dinner definately seems pricier.

After driving by the place a few times we decided to venture in and have some lunch. Nice quaint restaurant, food is beautiful and staff are friendly. Only negative thing would be the prices. I think they are way to high. If they dropped their prices i'd deffinitly go back.

My husband and I had been talking about trying this place for a while, and when we decided to visit with some out-of-town guests, we thought we might be taking a bit of a risk. There was no need to worry, however! We were greeted and seated by the friendly staff, who then explained their menu (which I have to say is not simple, nor straight-forward), and even gave us tastes of two different wines in order to help us choose the one we liked best. We decided to share 2 starters between the 4 of us: the calamari and the tapenade bruchette - the bruchette was absolutely gorgeous and we found ourselves fighting over it! We were all quite pleased with our mains, although I thought the portion of my 'daily special' monkfish and prawn dish was a little too small. The hake cooked on hot stone was very tasty and unique. My friend's mushroom and steak risotto was my favourite, actually, and I would definitely order that again! The atmosphere was fantastic and the service couldn't be faulted. The only criticism was the menu was quite hard to read through - and somewhat confusing. I understand the reason for all of the nutritional information, but the menu could certainly use a better layout / format.

I love the breakfast here. Eggs Benedict a must have! The service is excellent and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The quality of food is tops....they have even laid out the menu so you can examine how many calories are in each dish. Would defo go again.

I had dinner on Friday night with 2 friends and none of us could find fault with anything. I had chicken Bang Bang which was delicious, the sauce had a lovely creamy texture, slightly spicy but not hot so that the lemon grass could be tasted. The veg had a perfect crunch and were very tasty. The atmosphere was very relaxing, good light and nice music. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. For dessert I had a lemon tart with mixed berries; once again everything was perfect, texture, taste, presentation… and it wasn’t too filling. My friends had ice-cream: divine. I will must definitely go back.

I went here on Saturday night with 2 friends - and I have to say I will most definetely return. Staff were very nice and attentive without being intrusive. Some people have reviewed that the tables were cramped, the table we had certainly wasn't, but the other side of the room had more tables so perhaps they had been sitting there. The menu was a bit confusing to read at first but easy to get the hang of. The a calorific value of each dish was great! I had pate to start, it was lovely. My main was tiger prawns with moroccan stlye couscous - it was absolutely gorgeous. Dessert was good to, and the cost was reasonable for the quality. Definetely worth a visit. Still salivating over the prawns and couscous.

First time there last night and it was so so. The tables are a bit cramped and the waiting staff bump into the chair every time they pass. The menu is very complicated with a breakdown of calories and fats with symbols for everything under the sun. Nice selection of food. The idea for full and half portions for each dish doesn't work for a lot of the dishes. We ordered half portions of the starters and they were decent portions whereas for the mains the full portions were somewhat small, what's the point in adding complication. They should reconsider renaming their Bang Bang Chicken to Bland Bland Chicken; paté was so so, the chicken breast was nice as was the mash and veg. Decent wine list. Given the hub of eateries in the area, would only go back if I couldn't get a place elsewhere.

Atmosphere was okay as it was a sunny day, table outside etc. Food has changed, fish and chips were different to how they used to be, very greasy, all batter hardly any fish, chips were disappointing. Meal made me queezy. If I am paying €16 for fish and chips for lunch I expect them to be delicious. Food not good. Service was fine and pleasant.

We visited Bay on a Monday evening and chose to sit inside. We have been here once or twice in the last 6 months and have enjoyed it as a place for a casual early evening meal. There is a nice atmosphere, however some of the tables are positioned a little close to each other, and on this occasion we felt slightly on top of the people next to us. There is a decent choice of food on the menu, if anything though the early bird choices are a little limited. The complimentary crackers and pesto are a nice touch to begin your meal with. For starters we had calamari to share which was tasty and a decent portion. For mains we had the chicken bang bang which was unusual and very tasty, and the beef burger which was excellent. Overall, the food in Bay is above average quality and reasonably priced, and the service is excellent. My only gripe would be to offer a wider choice on the early bird. Nonetheless, I would definitely return.

Food is very average although I do like the calorie content for the food being displayed. Staff are quite rude in that you're being pushed off your table once your food is eaten, which ruined the lunch for me and I would not go back.

We ate here last weekend and found the new menu style a bit different but after a good explanation by one of the staff we settled in and had a very enjoyable meal. Starters of soup and chowder with main course of hake and prawns was excellent. The restaurant was quiet enough but January would be a quieter time for most restaurants. Will definitely return.

This is a great little restaurant that I would highly recommend. The food is quite simple but cooked extremely well and for those trying to eat healthy, this is the place to go. They provide you with the dietry details on the menu. There is plenty to choose from on the menu and the specials are always good. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and you can relax very easily with the ambient background music. The service is a bit slow but that does not take away from the overall dinning experience. Good value for money and staff are very helpful.

I have been a regular visitor for some time and would always have awarded top marks for atmosphere, food, service and value. However, since my previous visit sometime before Christmas, the content and layout of the menu has changed dramatically. I'm a firm believer in the adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it", and in this case, in my opinion, the original format was far more user friendly. I think the new menu is very complex and am disappointed to note that some of my favourite meals have been dropped, notably the simply scrumptious Butternut Squash Canneloni. Maybe I'm imagining it, but I thought that the restaurant was much quieter, so am wondering if the change has had a negative impact, and would be interested to hear the views of other regular diners.

Well when I arrived (in a party of two) the place was packed and we were asked to wait by the door for 5 minutes for a table. This was absolutely fine and they handed us menus to look at. When we were seated we asked to be moved as our seat was so cramped. Again they accommodated us with no problems at all with an alternative seat. We sat down and it was 15 minutes before anybody came up to us to take our order. I feel this is simply just too long to wait with the size of the restaurant. We both ordered from the set Christmas Menu - 1 Pâté & 1 Goats Cheese Salad to start followed by the Steak and the Sea Bass for mains. The starters arrived fine and were satisfactory but the main problem was the main. I ordered steak medium and it came cooked through which I was not happy about, it was also quite fatty. My partner claimed the sea bass was some of the worst she had ever eaten. Plates were left half eaten and when the servers collected the plates they did not ask how the food was even though we had not finished. Again there was a significant delay getting the bill to the table and then getting the credit card machine to the table. We both agreed we will not be returning. Bill amount came to 36 euro with 2 set lunches and 1 mint tea.

I love the atmopshere in Bay and I do like the layout of their new menu as it coded for people like me who have certain food intolerances so that is very, very helpful! They also have coeliac chips and bread, again refreshingly considerate for the not so average diner! And their morrocan mint tea is the best herbal tea I have had in a long time. Acutal leaves not bags!! My only complaint is that I don't get excited about the vegetarian selection. It's been the same for as long as I have been going there and it would be more interesting and apeptising if it was changed more often or a different special offered. It lacks imagination! Saying that I do return for the ambience, very friendly staff, fabulous view, location and the moroccan mint tea!

This is a really lovely family restaurant. It is situated on the coast road so the view is lovely. Our extended family goes there for all kinds of occasions and it suits everyone from the kids and teenagers to the Grandparents. It is casual, yet friendly and the service is attentive but not "fussy". The food never disappoints and is always fresh. There is a good variety on the menu and they cook everything very well. We also go there from our workplace for special lunches and everyone loves it! You can also drop in for just wine and snacks or dessert and coffee. ( you can see we love this place). The decor was redone not too long ago and is quite nice. However, the tables look a bit tatty and could do with a revarnish ( or maybe they're meant to look stressed!). It can also be a bit cramped at times but that seems more pat of its charm than a complaint. In recent times they've extended the early bird, which is great value. Well done Bay - looking forward to lots more nice times. Celine

Although it's very small it has a nice and relaxed atmosphere. We had a quick lunch with Steak in some Asian sauce which was not a sensation but quite nice and a Goats Cheese/Fig Salad that was lacking flavor. Overall It was ok for the price we paid and with the attentive service we had a pleasant stay and will certainly return for an occasional lunch or just a coffee with chocolate brownie which is an absolute delight.

Visited here with friends and had a fantastic meal. I did not expect the great busy atmosphere that was present, on a Thursday, with gentle live music too. Service was great, food was so tasty, and even though we were the last to leave, we weren't rushed out of the restaurant at all. Would highly recommend.

Just back from a nice lunch here, so thought I had better update my earlier somewhat negative review. I had the open sirloin steak sandwich with chips & it was excellent. The steak was nicely char-grilled, very juicy and cooked perfectly medium as I had requested. The chips were thin-cut Frites style which I much prefer to chunky. For €11 it was a big plate of food. All 6 of us enjoyed our food, so I may well be back to try the dinner menu again some time.

We love it here for the atmosphere as much as the food. I had the homemade burger the last time and my wife had the Thai chicken. We both cleared our plates. I've been here a few times now and have always found it intimate and relaxing. I've seen a few Irish celebs at times as well. It's a lovely place to relax after a walk along the strand or a stroll through St Anne's Park. The staff have been very nice any time I have been here as well. Plenty to recommend it.

Came here for sunday brunch. Atmosphere was good, but staff were not particularly nice. We had pancakes, eggs benedict and a full breakfast. The pancakes were 50/50 half were good and the other half were hard and nasty - maybe left sitting under hot lamps? The full breakfast was ok but no real flavor, the eggs were overcooked bullets and the hollandaise on the eggs benedict had a hard skin on top which was offputting! with teas coffees and waters the bill came to nearly €100.00 for 3 of us!!! very expensive for what you get - wont be back!!!!!!

Arrived unbooked on a busy saturday night and managed to get a table for 2 within a few minutes which was lucky and the staff were very accomodating. Had the duck breast on the hot stone which was nice but I felt the accompanying dip could have been a bit sweeter. The ceaser salad was lovely, very fresh and the fishcakes were also pretty good. The only thing I disliked about the evening was the live music. It was a bit cringey to be honest, I think a cd in the backround would have been better but each to thier own I suppose. Would definitely go again, and have been back since a couple of times for the early bird, which was lovely and also for brunch, which was slightly overpriced but very tasty.

Having passed Bay every week for the past few years we finally went to try it out. The place was buzzing on Sunday afternoon, we were lucky to get in before all the tables were filled up. We had a seat inside, which was really warm. Staff were efficient and friendly. The brunch menu is lovely offering lots of enticing options. Unfortunately, I was really disappointed with my club sandwich, the chicken cooked on a grill of some sorts was juicy but it must have been a really dirty grill as the chicken was black in parts, they hadn't drained it either before placing on the crispy bread and so the bread turned to mush, I can be thankful that the bread was on the plate otherwise everything would have been swimming. The hard boiled egg had the grey around the yoke (believe due to it been cooled to quickly..not appealing, a freshly cooked egg would have been much nicer. Not all bad as my husband loved his steak sandwich and finished it all, he had planned to have a brownie but was too full. We will go back for the evening menu at some stage, think it was just an off day for the club sandwich.

I went to Bay with my partner on Sunday evening, only a week since my last visit with a frriend. I had collected the tokens from a daily paper for a 2 for 1 main course. I booked my table and they had it ready when we got there. As usual most tables were full and there was a great buzz in the place. We shared a starter, both had a main course and shared a desert with a couple of glasses of wine. Got great value for money with our tokens and the waitress was dlighted to take them for us! As always the 2 waitresses and the waiter were very helpful. I look forward to trying the brunch menu there soon ; )

The Bay is a small intimate restaurant on the Clontarf Road, facing Bull Island. The seaview is captivating and we often go there for breakfast during the week-end, as a morning treat. Tidy and informal furnishing, soft music and friendly, polite staff contribute to the relaxed atmosphere. There is a wide selection of breakfast and brunch options even if you wake up a little late: this time we arrived at one o'clock. Ingredients are fresh, presentation accurate and portions generous. Dishes are well prepared classics with an original touch: I suggest the eggs florentine, and if you prefer sweet in the morning then you should not miss the pancakes with maple syrup and berries. The price for the eggs Florentine, pancakes with maple syrup and berries and 2 espressos was € 30.30. You judge.

I am a big fan of menu pages but this is my first review. I used love Bay but my most recent visits have been so dreadful that I was prompted to write this review. Bay USED to do a great weekend brunch menu but the last time I was there the service was dreadful. There was only 6/7 tables full yet the couple going in before me were told that they only had twenty minutes at the table they chose as they were fully booked!? When we were finally seated I ordered my usual goats cheese, spinach eggs benedict. It comes it salmon which I don't eat so I asked that the salmon be changed for mushrooms which they have always happily agreed too on my previous visit. On this occasion the waitress told me they don't stock mushrooms. I pointed out that they were on the menu as they do a mushroom omlette and as they were charging nearly €14 for eggs and salmon surely it would be possible to swap one very expensive ingredient for a few mushrooms. She said that I couldn't swap ingredients - then proceed to offer to swap my sisters spinach for grilled tomatoes!!? When I said that I had been in three days before for brunch and got mushrooms instead of salmon she went up and had a long conversation with the manager. The manager strolled over and snottily informed me that I couldn't have mushrooms on the weekend as the chef said it wasn't allowed, so I went ahead and ordered the salmon eggs benedict without the salmon. We waited ages for our food, to the point we nearly walked out but my sisters tea arrived. When our food finally arrived it our poached eggs were cold bullets, my sisters grilled tomatoe was half a uncooked tomatoe. I was about to send mine back and tell them that they had forgotten the goats cheese when I noticed a piece of rind under the eggs but there was genuinely no sign of anymore cheese for €14!!Our chips were limp, teppid fries and my coffee didn't arrive till we were finished. Dreadful!! Appalling food and service!!

fantastic, I have eaten here many times and every time the food is perfectly cooked. Water pipes were down so we had to pay 4euro to buy bottled water. Staff are always very friendly and helpful.

Good food, nice location, good service and the early bird menu had quite a few otpions to choose from so you don't feel like you're eating a second class meal just because you are paying less : ) I would definitley recommend it and look froward to going back

went to bay after getting a voucher at the school gates last week with an offer of a scone and coffee for €2 which I was delighted with . When I went down there was agreat buzz in the place and decided to come back down that evening with my friends we didnt no about there new menu but its fab and the best value i have come across yet €20 for a main a starter and a free glass of wine fantastic and instead of your usual miniture menu given with meal deals you can choose your own dish from the main menu they had the place done up recently also and its so chic. Well done at bay as usual you deliver !

We had an early dinner here yesterday and we were a little disappointed. We arrived just before 5, and were left with menus in front of us for over 15 minutes. The waitress who had seated us was continually chatting with other members of staff and it was impossible to catch her eye. When a waiter approached us, he was lovely and apologised for the wait. My husband ordered a steak sandwich and the waiter explained it was finished at 5, but my husband explained we had been waiting a long time and the waiter agreed to check. The waitress that seated us then spoke with the waiter and proceeded to argue with him about the steak sandwich, in our full view! It was very uncomfortable, and we were tempted to leave. The waiter, however, did tell her that we had been waiting and there was no further argument about the steak. When our starter, brie, arrived, the waitress served us, and was very polite. The brie, however, was awful. It tasted stronger than goat's cheese and I couldn't finish it. The steak sandwich was ok, and my prawn skewer was lovely. Overall very disappointing.

Had lunch here with a friend of mine today and it was not a good dining experience. The location is fantastic and the interior is pleasant, but that is just about all you can say about it. The menu is long and confused with a whole range of cuisines included. They would be better off reducing the number of dishes and increasing the quality. I had the Thai Vegetable wrap which was mildly unpleasant and not terribly Thai. It contained very oily vegetables and mozzerella and came with a tired looking side salad that tasted like sweets. My friend had the crayfish and crab salad which was "grand". Service was sporadic and we saw several people come in from the outside seating area, menus in hand, begging for service. I had a cappuccino which was one of the worst (and most expensive at €3.30) I've ever had. It looked promising but tasted watery and weak-I had two sips and left the rest. Lunch for two consisting of two mains (one of which was effectively a sandwich), tap water and two coffees came to an eye-watering €32.50 excluding the service. I will not return.

Went to Bay for dinner at about 7.30pm. It was crowded and very noisy. It seemed more cramped than i remembered. Although the staff were attentive, the food really let them down. Our starters were good, goats cheese and caramelised onion "bruchette" and tiger prawns, both tasty but my Caesar salad was a travesty. The dressing was mayonnaise like, thick and tasteless. I trawled through the lettuce and bacon trying to find pieces I could eat. The grilled chicken sat on top. It was ok but again a bit tasteless. My friends lamb skewers were exactly that and the "Greek" salad that accompanied them didn't resemble any Greek salad I've ever seen before. I don't think I'll be back.

Had the early bird menu here which was great value, two courses for €19.95 or three courses for €22.95. Limited menu for early bird but nice choice all the same. I went for the prawn salad with mango, cashew nut and leaves in a ginger and soy dressing, unusual combination but super tasty stuff. All the deserts are amazing too. One small fault is that on thursdays, there is a singer, while she sings quite well, we were sitting quite near and as a result could barely hear ourselves talk. staff are very nice and service was perfect, recommend this place definitely.

Went here for Lunch yesterday & must say the food was beautiful. I had tomato & bean soup & although not as thick as I like, it was very tasty. My friend had the stuffed mushroom and I thought that looked much nicer. We both had chicken for the main course and it came on a bed of champ mash with asparagus & pea sauce (which was very tasty!) This came to around €14 each I think. The service is brilliant and I would definitely recommend for Lunch. I have never been for Dinner but although the food is beautiful the tables are very close together so it wouldn't be ideal for a romantic meal for two, although the view onto the sea is a nice touch! Would definitely recommend. Update: Since my first visit almost two years ago, Bay is easily my favourite place to eat. I am addicted to the sesame beef salad and love nothing more than a club salad with chips for brunch on a sunday after a walk along the coast. Great value for money - would also definitely recomment the pork belly - extremely tasty!

Four of us visited. Three chose the eggs Benedict which was excellent. I chose the "Chowder", a terrible affair and possibly the worst I've ever had. Lots of creamy liquid with the occassional chunk of some non-descript red fish. Bay's chips were, for me, the sharp knarly bits from the bottom of the frier. An abundant choice of teas and coffees. Try the mint tea. Service was very good. The place is very clean and atmospheric, although people are crammed into every available floor space. Might return. Update since last visit: I emailed Bay to give them some productive feedback. No response. I will not be returning if they can't be bothered to respond to clients.

This is my third time in bay and though the food is very good the service is very slow, and somewhat surly. We popped in for a bit of soup and cake and were in there for an hour and a half!!! At the sort of prices they charge you would hope the service is good. I would recommend Bay as long as you don't mind the experience to take a good long time.

After my previous visit i was reluctant to return, As i turns out my most recent vist i didn't even get a menu. We arrived at approx 3pm and were told to take a seat. There were 4 tables occupied and 3 staff on duty. One waiter stood at the table next to us talking to his guests and he glanced at us but never offered drinks or even a menu. The second lady on duty was also chatting with guests and never offered us service and a third man stood behind the bar, also never offered us service or menu. We waited about 20 mins and while we there food sat in the window with calls from the kitchen for service but none of the staff seemed bothered. After this wait i decided to leave. Pity that on such a quiet day the staff had no interest in customer service. Lovely little restaurant in need of staff management!

The location is great with sea views and I love the interior. Has a bit of a French/Continental look. It is a bit cramped and loud at peak times. We loved the Brunch with its healthy options. The Early Bird is good value. Only was disappointed by the Seafood Risotto which was more like a soup. Will be nice in Spring and Summer on the terrace outside in the sea air.

I find the food here good. I especially enjoy the hearty brunch options and have had excellent seafood pasta. On the negative side, was disappointed with the service on my last visit and find the seating a little cramped.

We regularly go here for a light dinner. I would always order a salad which is very generous portions. the cray fish and avocado salad is the best i have tasted.. and you don't feel yourself compromising by going with the healthy option. Although most of Bay's menu is on the healthy side. Others have ordered the thai curry, prawn skewers and the steak which were all a success. i am always a little surprised when the bill comes, a little pricey i think but you cannot fault the quality or the lovely quaint atmosphere.. we always go back for more!

Four of us had lunch here on Sunday. The place was packed and there were people queuing. Cute little place, but perhaps too many tables. Three ordered fish & chips, which looked and tasted very good and I had the duck cassoulet, which was also very good. The portions were very generous. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We would return.

I go there regularly on a Sunday afternoon. I work with adults with learning disabilities, they really enjoy it there. Staff are very attentive and friendly. Nothing is too much trouble. Food is very good and so is the value. Atmosphere is friendly, but a bit overcrowded. At times very busy, that's why the atmosphere can be chaotic at times, but still cosy.

Had lunch here on Monday - was nice and thought the price was reasonable. The steak sandwich was cooked exactly as I asked and the Banoffi pie for desert was the highlight. Probably would return as I enjoyed the meal but didn't think it was as good as I expected.

Had lunch here on Monday. Service was good, toilets clean. I had Fish and Chips. Colleague had Blackened Chicken. My fish was delicious and so was Cajn Chicken. Chips were however undercooked - virtually raw on the inside. Typically Irish we did not complain. Dessert was Blueberry Cheesecake with icecream. Cheesecake - very, very good. Icecream was below par, not even HB std..Coffee good and again service was excellent, staff very attentive.

Went to Bay for an early dinner with husband and toddler. The interior has had a facelift which is really nice and adds to the atmosphere...especially liked the round tables at the window for larger groups. Service was great, food was lovely but what a shock when I saw the price we were charged for 2 glasses of house wine - €8.75 each!!!! I really think restaurants are taking liberties when they charge huge prices for glasses of wine...We didn't want a whole bottle of wine but ended up paying for one!!!! Please reconsider these prices!!!!

I eat here on a very regular basis and I can’t say enough good things about the place. I really love the relaxed atmosphere. As someone who likes to try new things, the fact that they have a new menu every week with a selection of new starters, main courses and desserts, it means you never get bored. In fact I don’t think I have ever eaten the same thing twice in all the times I have dined there. The food is always beautifully presented and SOOO tasty and you certainly will never go hungry. There is always something original in their dishes which makes the flavours really exciting. My boyfriend and I absolutely love the brushette with the caramelised onions and goats cheese and we both agree that Bay does the best deserts out of any restaurant we have been too. We are both particularly fond of the bread and butter pudding, the cheesecake and the sticky toffee pudding (we really love all of them!). You really get good value too and we always go for the early bird. The service is great, the wine is fab and the food is fantastic. I know without doubt that Bay will always be one of my favourite restaurants.

Came in here for brunch with my fiance and had a nice chilled Sunday morning. The place was rather quiet when we arrived as it was only 10am and had just openend so there wasn't much atmosphere. Food was great. Service was OK, they left us alone for most of the meal but trying to get someone's attention was a bit difficult and I ended up going up to the counter to pay. All in all not a bad brunch though!

Oh my God, Why Why is this place ever busy. Service horrendous, wait staff chewing gum. Forgot orders and under pressure with 3 tables. Then I look to left and there is another table with the owners/managers having a meeting and failing to notice people walk in and others looking for service. Brekkie took 40 mins and when is came was completely incorrect. Ordered more coffee's and they took ages too. None of the juices and coffee's were on bill when it arrived, which is great if your dis-honest..Oblivously is a badly managed place

I want to start on a positive even if it did occur at the end of the meal, the coffee here is great. But for a restuarant that charges 14.95 for a burger a little more effort would be appreciated, it was heavy and quite plain, it came with chips, which were straight out of the deep fat fryer with no seasoning and as for presentation....a spoon to use with the tomato ketchup would also be appreciated. This place could be great with a few more smiles, better service and all around a little more effort.

I love Bay restaurant and eat in it often - I love the view, the choice on the menu and I must say I have always found the staff to be attentive and friendly. The one thing I could say is that it is very overpriced for what it offers, but having said that it is always busy so people (including myself) must be willing to pay over the odds!! As someone remarked to me recently 'there is no recession in Clontarf!'

Had lunch here today. I've eaten here before, usually for brunch / lunch at weekends, and it has always been full, which is normally a good sign, Food was quite good - I had the daily special of chicken florentine. It was tasty, but was a bit dry and perhaps could have done with some more seasoning. Skipped dessert. Hubbie had a burger, which was tasty and generous. Coffee was good. Service was slow, and not great - our table had not been wiped down before we sat down, and we had to ask twice for a few simple things such as water and milk for the coffee. A wee bit pricy for what it is, but it certainly enjoys a good trade from locals.

I go here for Sunday brunch at least once a month. The food is excellent however the service can be a bit slow. It's a very busy spot so be prepared to queue (it's totally worth the wait!) I'm having dinner there this weekend so hopefully it will live up to my expectations.

We came here early one Sat night. Place empty apart from two other couples, sat upright and not speaking. There was no music playing and the three tables were so close together, all of us afraid to speak for fear of being overheard. All we could hear was the messing from the staff, lots of laughing, joking and swearing. None of them could tear themselves away from the fun to serve us; two other tables came in, sat down and walked out!!! I asked the waitress 3 times if they could turn on the music as the joking from the bar was driving us mad. When food did arrive, it was not too bad to be honest. I did find a hair in my calamari, for which I received no apology but could hear clear as day the manager having words with the chef about it. We were asked about 7/8 mins later did we want another, still no apology. Main courses came and we asked for the bill, as we were leaving they turned the music on. Food is ok, but expensive, quite possibly the worst service I have ever seen in my life. The waitress even replied to a text message whilst serving another table, oh and chewing gum all the time. Sorry guys, I don’t normally complain, but..............

The Bay, as the name suggests, has a view across the north side of Dublin bay, but by golly do you pay for the view and the location. While the food is fairly good quality, the portions are a little too small for the prices charged. These prices are way ott for what is an informal cafe style venue, with service that is not of professional standard.

With a glorious sunny Saturday it had to be brunch outside with a sea view. Bay delivered on the location and the food was also very good. We both ordered the Healthy Breakfast which actually consisted of an extremely generous, well presented and tasty serving of poached eggs, grilled bacon, mushrooms, baked beans and toasted bun. Along with some two glasses of excellent fresh orange juices, a tea, two cappuccinos and a smoothie the bill came to €45 which I felt was very good value for a delicious, relaxing and comfortable brunch. The service was however a little less satisfactory. Our waitress seemed to be always stressed, never once smiled and was not naturally attentive. In addition to myself I noted other diners having to catch her attention.

I visited recently on a Saturday at lunchtime with a party of thirteen. We waited over forty five mins to be served any starters and we still hadn't been given our main courses after an hour and a quarter. As only four had starters that meant that most of us were sitting with no food for nearly an hour and a half. Food was good when it finally arrived, but the delay had put a number of our party in bad humour! With a large party it is difficult to get every body's food out on time, but this length of time is ridiculous! Speed of service seems to be an on-going problem here!!

Ate here for brunch recently, had the eggs Benedict, which came with chips, smoked salmon and goat's cheese. The Goat's cheese didn't work at all with the eggs. A friend had the fry, which was bog standard fry, but complete rip off at over 12 euro I think. Another friend had the pancakes, which were alright, also completely overpriced. Service was fine. Overall this place is nothing special and very overpriced for what you get. They either need to reduce the prices or improve the menu, although since it's always full I suppose they need to do neither, which just goes to show people have more money than sense.

I like Bay. I just wish they would get their act together and do something about the abysmally slow service. I would love to bring people here for lunch, but we can't all afford to be waiting 40 minutes to be served. We were there for breakfast today, the first customers in the place and still we were left waiting ages. Things could be so much better.

Visit Bay with a party of 19 people for confirmation at lunchtime - very varied menu, so plenty of choice, including 2 course lunch for €13.95. Food was excellent and staff very friendly and helpful. Overall very good experience

Popped in for an al fresco lunch yesterday. All in all very nice. Quite overpriced though. Service was good. Starter of Crab,Crayfish & Avocado was delicious. Special of Beef stuffed with mince beef was quite good. Tiramisu was dry and boring. Good spot though for a relaxing afternoon.

have been before so i like this restaurant but was disappointed with my main course. Two of our group got the fish and chips but the fish was totally tastless, very bland. The other mains were fine Starters and desserts were good and service was good as usual.

Lovely lazy lunch... On driving through Clontarf recently, we decided to stop for lunch at the first place we found. This just happened to be Bay. What a treat! We enjoyed a fantastic 2 course lunch that left us full and satisfied and although we swore we couldn't eat another bite, we couldn't deny ourselves a dessert to share. We stayed for hours just gazing out the windows at passers by and enjoying the jazzy music. Such great value at €55 for two including a few cheeky beers...

I went here on Saturday and I was shocked at the prices. I'll happily pay for quality food but I was very disappointed. The portion size was very small as well. I won't be going back there despite the lovely views

Have just returned home after a very pleasant lunch in Bay with Mr. Boop. Within ten minutes of us arriving the place was full. As it was lunchtime we did not want anything too heavy so decided yo share the "Bay skewer platter". A mixture of 4 skewers with beef, lamb, prawns and grilled veg and cheese. It comes with choice of greek salad or chips and waitress suggested getting salad and extra portion of chips as we were sharing. We discovered on receiving the bill that the small bowl of frozen chips cost €4.50 which was a total rip off even if the food was nice. We decided to share a dessert and went for one of the specials on the waitresses recommendation. "Baked Strawberry cheesecake". She was right, it was very tasty. The only thing was the portion size was tiny. You could eat double and still want more. Lucky there was a nice scoop of creamy vanilla ice-cream to go with it. The accompanying coffee was enjoyed. No doubt we will be back.

Attend for lunch whenever I get time. Food is excellent with a good variation on the menu. Would definitely recommended it for a nice weekend lunch. Only fault would be the attentivness or lack there of, of the staff.

Just popped into Bay around 3pm 31.03.08. Came out from town to get away before the traffic. Arrived and was given table facing the wall even though there were 2 spare 4 person tables beside the window. Asked to move and was accommodated, had to bring my drink with me and was unaided in the move. Not good enough. Cutlery in a metal basket on table sticking out like a dishwasher cutlery basket. Not good enough. Menu very nice looking. Had to take time to choose what I wanted. Wife had mushroom and broccoli soup, very good. I had crab cakes - I think they were microwaved. Skin was soft and tough; however, contents were pleasurable enough. 2 good crab cake portions also. Mains: wife had monkfish - amazing! I had fish and chips, cod, was supposed to be in a herb batter. What it was in was a saffrony type yokey. Was very tasty but what was going on with the batter... just appeared funny, tasted divine. Had two glasses pinot grigio, was shown bottle - couldn’t be sure, but it may not have been what I ordered!!!! Bottle should always be brought to table. Waitress asked did we want dessert, no menu arrived. By the time I had asked for one, I didn’t feel the love anymore. Service a bit sketchy but ok. Prices are ok; however, I think that they should up the service to match the prices. Bill came to €65ish. Not bad, considering I had choice of full menu. Will be back to visit though. Good amount of customers there for a Monday afternoon. Would say it is packed later in the week.

Came here for Sunday brunch with a group and we were seated near the door. The automatic doors make this very restaurant very cold every time someone walks past outside! The food was nice, I had the daily special which was tasty but the portions were relatively small. They were very busy and with the views, I can see why this place is popular, particularly on a Sunday afternoon. Nice place for the views and the food, just sit away from the door!

We ate here yesterday evening just barely making the early bird at 6:25pm (traffic). The service was excellent; the 2 young ladies who dealt with us were very attentive without being overbearing and smiled continuously which was a nice change from other restaurants. We had 2 goat’s cheese tartlets and a carrot & pumpkin soup which were very tasty. We then had 2 Malaysian chickens and a chorizo risotto. The Malaysian chickens went down well and the risotto was yummy although personally I would have preferred a little more chorizo. We ate well with no room for dessert and had some rose wine, 2 teas and a cappuccino which were excellent. A very enjoyable meal in cosy surroundings with a nice view. Early bird = 19.95 which is great value for the quality. Busy but a nice buzzing atmosphere.

Interesting and varied menu. Tasty food and good service. A problem with my main course was handled quickly and professionally and I wasn't charged for the replacement dinner. The close tables didn't bother us as it's a tiny premises and it was lunch time anyway. It was good to see it busy. The only thing it lacked was a greeting with a smile! We will return.

Ate here yesterday for the fifth time in the last 18 months. Always enjoy reading the mixed reviews but I think it's perfect for an early tea or lunch at the weekend. Yesterday my girlfriend had the open club sandwich and I had the open steak sandwich. She really enjoyed hers, although I have to say it didn't look great. Mine was fine, and in the past I've always enjoyed food here. I can see what people mean re it being cramped, but I've only once been really on top of somebody. And while the waitress was about to give us the table beside the toilet when there was one by the window, I've always found service to be friendly. So overall I reckon it deserve's the four stars.

Was here for lunch after a walk on the beach over Xmas. The food was delicious. One big complaint was it was very cramped. As we stood waiting to be seated a big crowd got up to leave there was alot of stepping around each other and 'Sorry' cause there was little room to move. When we sat down, it was also cramped with coats being knocked off chairs etc.

The mixed comments here are interesting. I ate here yesterday, I had the crayfish on brown bread and it was yummy and a good portion size for about a tenner. It is a bit cramped and our proximity to the bathroom meant I could smell bleach the whole time. I did think the service was apalling though. It seemed like they really couldn't be bothered. We also had to ask for cutlery and napkins and our waitress didn't apologise for the lack of them. I also don't like the way they have the cutlery in a basket-thing on the table. It's out of my way so I probably won't go back.

I absolutely love this place. The food is beautiful, the menu has something for everyone, but best of all the atmosphere is second to none. The whole feel of the place is laid back, but at the same time the service is friendly and efficient and the setting is intimate, but buzzing at the same time. I had the mushroom crostini and green curry, and my boyfriend had the crab cakes and seabass, and we both agreed that it was one of the nicest meals we've had in a long time. We had no room for desserts, as the portions are very generous. this place is perfect for both a casual dinner for two, and I will definitely be going back.

I have the other reviews with interest. I have eaten in Bay several times mostly at night but occasionally for lunch. I agree with many of the comments - the location is lovely but everything else is only mediocre and you often don't get the dish as described in the menu - however I do think it has improved in recent times - the seafood platter for 2 is about the best dish on the menu

Had a nice lunch with my mum here during the week. Very relaxing. Two courses for 16.95 was good value. The starter of smoked salmon roulade was well made, served with toasted brown bread and fresh salad. My main of stuffed chicken and orzo went down well, but the duck confit wasn't great. Staff very pleasant, and a nice view of the sea....

I too can't believe the comments by that other reviewer. Bay is a lovely restaurant in a great location. The staff are always pleasant, really nice and couldn't do enough to help us. I am delighted with it. I have never been for an evening meal in saying that, but I can't imagine that the service differs that much from what we always experience during lunch time. I think the food is fantastic, the value good, and the staff lovely. For anyone wanting to go, definitely do, dont listen to bad reviews.

I can't believe the comments I've just read about bay! Yes the place is small, tables are close together but the food is fab and consistently fab at that! I go there a lot for lunch and this is really the time to go...specials are always great with fresh ideas and ingredients that are in season!! It always has a great atmosphere and the staff are always friendly & pleasant...they work hard very hard, so give them a break. We are all different, but I would go back time and again to a place where the food is always good - & forgive all else.

I have eaten at Bay a few times. I find the food mediocre at best, and certainly overpriced for what you get. The service at Bay make you feel like you should be serving them. Each time I go there, I say, "Never again", but something draws me back. Maybe the act of writing this review will get it out of my system once and for all. I haven’t been to their themed nights, but I suppose the atmosphere could be fun, just don't expect to enjoy the food...

This is about my 4th time in this resturant, As I live in the area its very handy for me. I went there last Sunday for bunch and yet again was so disappointed. The service is appalling, dirty tables, no cutlery when food is served, takes ages to get anyone's attention and it's totally overpriced. You are paying for the beautiful seaviews and thats about it. My advice - Stay away or drive a little further and get value for money.

I used to be a regular of Bay- I was there 3 times a week for dinner or coffee & dessert but I think the standard has really slipped. I had a few bad meals where the food wasn't what I had ordered or was cold & when I complained to the staff (very subtly- I didn't want to make a fuss just to have what I ordered & a hot meal) I got a very poor reception. It seems to be hit & miss at the moment in terms of food quality. Some of the staff are very friendly & helpful but others are rude & extremely unprofessional. It’s a shame because as I say I used to love this place & there are not many nice coffee places/ bistro type restaurants in Clontarf but I won’t be going back there any time soon.

Being at our wits end to find a restaurant we decided to give the Bay another chance. I am delighted that we did so. I decided to forego the starter this time and went for the crab and avocado cocktail. It was simply beautiful! Nicely balanced with crab, half an avocado, rocket, sundried tomatoes, onion and mango. It was very filling also. Herself had a seafood pasta dish which hit all the right spots. We split a lemon tart which was light, refreshing and a perfect end to the meal when added to two well produced cappuccinos. €48 the lot, good value too.

Had lunch in Bay yesterday, and was very disappointed. I ordered from the brunch menu, and had the potato, tomato and mozzarella omelette and chips. There were about five chips on the plate, a tiny bit of salad, and the omelette had a charcoal taste off it. The potatoes in the omelette were cut into large chunks, and were hard. Also had a cup of coffee, which was luke warm, and tasted like it had been made hours ago. The meal cost 12.95, and the coffee 2.60, a bit of a rip off for a bad meal. My mother ordered a similar dish, and was also disappointed. Will not be dining here again.

The restaurant was very busy and we were lucky to have booked. Small, very modern, a lot of hard surfaces. Tables close together. We were entertained by a female vocalist and her singing was beautiful. It added a lovely dimension to the night out.Main course menu options were limited. Half an hour to come following the order. We had chicken in a bovril type sauce. Chicken was nicely cooked but would not rate the sauce. My companion enjoyed her duck dish. Service was pleasant and helpful. I would be happy to go again.

It’s in a nice spot in Clontarf and I guess that’s what you are mainly paying for when you go there. the food is average. I had the chowder, which was not very good. the tables are very close together too so if you mind other patrons peering into your food or listening in on your conversations this is not the place!

I took my mother and sister here one Saturday afternoon. They were very busy with all the tables full inside and most outside so we ended up waiting 20 minutes before anyone approached us. I hope they were understaffed and that this was the reason for this. Anyway, when we eventually did order it was to get worse. We ordered three mains and two of them arrived 20 minutes later, after enquiring where our food was 5 minutes earlier! My main didn’t arrive for another 10 minutes, again after I had to request it. Worse still the mothers Thai Chicken Noodles had a badly burnt lump of chicken thrown on top. Our drinks order never arrived but when the bill did they were on it!! After complaining about the service etc. the drinks were removed. How kind!! That was all though and we paid the bill in full and left no tip. The experience was dreadful and I won't return again which is a pity as the two mains that arrived were actually tasty!

Nothing like a spot of sunshine to draw you to Clontarf for the early bird specials. Last evening for 19 euro, himself dined on lovely chicken liver pate followed by a stuffed chicken dish on mash that he says he enjoyed. I, not one to ever not make friends with a dessert, went with the main coarse of smoked haddock and leek risotto, which was plentiful to the extreme with a generous portion of shaved Parmesan. Lovely. I followed with a tasteless and tough pancake stuffed with hard pears and ice cream. Since each two courses were advertised for 19 euro, imagine our surprise when our bill arrived only to find we were charged for both early bird specials plus 6 95 for the dessert. The lesson here is chosen your preferences wisely (the early bird seems always to have a better selection than the a la carte menu), and always, always check your bill. The waitress were very pleasant but despite the overall good food, great hummus appetizer and friendly atmosphere, no one likes to feel they are being taken for a fool.

I had the most fabulous pasta dish here - spinach and ricotta cheese filled tortellini with a Gorgonzola cream sauce and Parmesan shavings - wow it was fab! I had a breakfast here another day - salmon and eggs and it was disappointing and overpriced. Need to be careful what you pick from the menu. The location is nice opposite the sea and if the weather was good it would be nice to sit outside. I would probably classify this a more a cafe than a restaurant. Nice for a visit during the day.

Ate here on a girlie afternoon and I must say that we all really enjoyed it! The food was good (although I wasn’t overly impressed with the fishcake) and the service was great! We were attended to but not overpowered! The coffee is really good here!!

Went to Bay last weekend. We had booked in for lunch and when we got there it was quite busy but there was one table there, which we assumed was ours. But the lady in front got the table and the waiter thought that we were all together. But luckily enough they found us a table after about 10mins. Food and atmosphere was wonderful. I had crab cakes to start. They were lovely.. Not outstanding but did the job. For my main I went for a prawn pasta dish, which was lovely, and for dessert I had a lovely tart. I would recommend Bay. It was a glorious sunny day and the place was buzzing.

Since it changed management - if it did - or at least since it shrunk down to half the size the menu really has improved. It is fine casual dining - tasty dishes, good size portions and friendly enough service - save the manager completely talking down to the waiting staff within earshot. Grand for a Saturday afternoon but very much overpriced for what you get.

Went there for an early evening bite to eat. The food was decent, but the service was slightly on the slow side, however they were quite busy. Overall the menu is good value for money, although some dishes are a little pricey. Another very positive thing is that the place always seems to be busy whenever I pass it.

We live 2 minutes walk away from Bay and try to pop in once a month or so. If you manage to get in before 6 there's a great steak sandwich on the menu otherwise we usually go for their burgers which are really good though sometimes the chips can be a bit undercooked. Some of the other mains are slightly expensive for the bistro type place Bay is. If it is busy it can be very cramped but bringing the kids we try to go in early. We've always found the staff very friendly though have taken a conscious decision to try to avoid Thursdays, their signer is quite good and a nice touch but the music is a bit of an acquired taste

Overpriced, pretty ordinary food in an OK setting. The place needs a bit of a refit - the walls are covered with A3 colour photocopies of pretty rancid paintings. I thought that the food might lift my mood a little, but the lamb koftas were smothered in salt and a little under-done. But the end of it for me was being charged over two euros for a can of Coke! Not even poured into the glass, simply placed on the table. That along with the fact that the cutlery is in a metal basket on the table and the prices are 'proper' restaurant rates means that it gets a very lowly score from us!

Bit cramped, it feels like you can't have a private conversation without someone listening in. The food is average as is the service. Desserts are really special though.

This is a lovely local restaurant. I have eaten here several times. The food is always lovely, the menu is varied and quality is reliable. Service is also good. The only disadvantage of this restaurant is its cramped nature.

Dreadful experience! I ordered sea trout and it was served on a bed of orange mildew looking risotto rice! The presentation alone completely put me off and was wrenching trying to consume it! The staff were unsympathetic. I will not return

Paid a visit over the weekend, Sampled the early bird menu. Really enjoyed the food and the service was excellent. Prices very reasonable too. Was a little sad looking out at the boarded up Dollymount House. what a shame.

Bay is an ideal spot for lunch - it has a good atmosphere - its ideally located overlooking the seafront in Clontarf and the food is thoroughly enjoyable.....however, as the restaurant is so small, it is not the place to venture for a romantic dinner or if you are looking to share your darkest secrets to your dining companion, that is unless you want the diners who are sitting next to you to hear everything! Food is good quality - portions are not huge, but all in all a nice spot.
