A group of us went here for dinner and some karaoke last weekend and we were pleasantly surprised. The service was excellent and the staff couldnt have been any more accomdating. We found it was really good value considering that we all had a decent amount of wine with dinner. The food is delicious and I will definitely be returning here to eat again sometime in the near future as it is the perfect location for a group of friends to spend an evening. The karaoke rooms downstairs are also really good fun, the only problem with them being that they tend to get very hot after a while but well worth it!

Went here for a late lunch and ended up staying for hours. The decor is lovely and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Service was friendly, attentive and prompt, even though we were sitting in a corner with only one table which is the kind of table that often gets forgotten about. They have a great drinks menu and the food was terrific. We both got the lunch bento which was excellent value, neither of us could finish and it was all only €10 each. I'll definitely be going again, and soon.

Was treated to a birthday lunch here and wasn't disappointed. It had been years since I had eaten here. I had the miso soup and the bento box, which consisted, among other things, of a refreshing melon, mint and cucumber salad, as well as spicy tofu and mushrooms and bok choi with black pudding! The meal was just right, filling, warm and tasty. The staff here are lovely and the room is airy and great to watch the street from. Would recommend for somewhere a little different.

Went here for lunch one day as ive always passed it but never tried it. We had the lunch bento box to share which is great value. Although i really felt based on what we got...the service was the only thing that i liked. The waitress was very efficient and friendly and the place had a cool atmosphere to it. We had "soup" to start...but it really tasted like dirty fish water to me...but then i never normally eat that style of food so others probably love it. I cant remember what else we got coz i couldnt get over the soup. Anyways, wont be back but dont take my comments to heart...again its just not my style of food.

Was here for a Hen night in June. There was about 20 of us. The restaurant was hopping and there was a great atmosphere. Food was good however I didn't really see that much on the menu that appealed to me. The cocktails were lovely. Went down to the karaoke downstairs afterwards and it was a great laugh. Great place for groups.

I ate here for lunch on my own during the week. It was very busy when I came in and I was offered a seat at the couter. It suited me as I was on my own. There was a great atmosphere in the place it was really busy but chilled and funky. I ordered a veggie burito with tofu which is optional. It was a lovely burito full of flavour and cheese. It still managed to retain a slight asian flavour to it, it had asian greens and spices in it. It was served with guacamole, sour cream and salsa. It was great value at 6.50. Would love to try the bento box but not much veggie option.

I come here quite a lot for the bento box at lunch and it never disappoints. Staff are always friendly and the bento box is exactly the right size to leave you full but not bursting and good value at 10 euro.

I visit Ukiyo about once a month for lunch - their bento box is always brilliant, filling, and ony a tenner! I always come away happy, but today in particular I was very impressed with the service. The bento box changes every day, and todays was tofu, prawn egg roll, and hake. As a not too huge fan of tofu, I asked if I could substitute it with something else. The waitress didn't falter in obliging me, and asked what I would like - I said surprise me! When the dish arrived it included yummy little dumplings and no tofu. If you're looking for something a little lighter, the lunch soups are great, and only 6 quid a pop. For something more substantial from the A La Carte, the Bul Go Gi contains the most mouth watering beef I have ever tasted. I only ever come here for lunch, so I can't comment on what it's like for dinner, but if the food and service is anything like I've ever experienced, you'll come away satisfied and with a full belly!

Visited Ukiyo for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. There was a group of seven girls, we had dinner booked and two hours of karaoke. My first time eating Jap food and thought it was the best place i had gone in ages, The food was great. I had beef springrolls for starter which were really good and a great portion size. I also had a beef dish for main course which was lovely, kind of a stir fry with traditional sides such as lettuce, chillis etc. The waiter serving us was brilliant, he created a great atmosphere, pouring us all shots when he found out it was our friends birthday. We were also drinking from their cocktail menu and the cocktails were lovely. The location i also found fantastic, just off georges street and grafton street so really central. The karaoke was brilliant and overall a great night had by all. Will defo be returning real soon and introducing this place to others.

We went there for dinner, using the menupage points for a free meal. The food was great, very tasty and good portion. They actually only had salmon as seafood for the day, it turned out very good anyway. The only thing that we felt abit uncomfortable is the noise because the talbles are very close each other and the karaoke downstairs. Other than that, we really enjoyed the meal.

I ate here with my boyfriend on evening. The food was really tasty. he got the pork belly and i got the beef, bothe dishes were 'yumm'! The staff were friendly and the service was good. The strange thing about it restaurant was the toilets! My boyfriend went down and came back very confused and left wondering did he use the ladies by accident. Then I went down and taught the very same thing...strange!

got the bento box here for takeway lunch. was great value at 10 euro and contained rice, noodle salad, panko crumbed chicken, 2 prawn sushi, and miso soup and also had some pickled ginger and little bottle of soy sauce. chicken was lovely and came with little bit of a sauce seemed similar to teriyaki or yakitori. soup was little bland and rice needed something else was just plain and with no substantial sauce was bit dry and little unnecessary. bento box changes daily and will defo try it again.maybe for sit down i could have requested more sauce and that defo would have helped. nice place though decent service and good atmosphere

One of my favourites for dinner on my own - though I wouldn't have any qualms to bring company. This Thursday night the atmosphere was a bit livelier as it was Paddy's Day and they had a DJ playing. Service was attentive and quick as ever. I had the hake and prawn dumplings which came with a lovely dipping sauce followed by the seared tuna on a bed of greens and rice. The tuna, as per my instructions, was very rare and good quality, the greens were spot on. It's not fancy cuisine they do here, the trick is good quality ingredients cooked the right way and combinations that just work. The selection of wines by the glass is limited, but seen as the cuisine is Japanese and Korean I'll let them get away with it. I will be back. Soon.

Visited on a Saturday night as part of a hen party of 10 people. It was really busy. Nice atmosphere. Lovely solid wood tables and nice lighting. The service was very attentive. The food varied.... Tempura prawns and green beans as a starter were absolutely gorgeous. I wouldn't recommend the vegan Japanese curry though - it was ok but didn't really live up to my expectations after the starter and the sauce felt almost like something out of a jar. Everyone else seemed pretty happy with their food though. I found it a little pricey. Meal came in at €55 per person for starter, main, 2 drinks, coffee and karaoke. Will probably be back for another karaoke night out! Probably wouldn't make the effort to go here just for dinner though.

I recently went to Ukiyo for lunch with my girlfriend. It has a nice cheery atmosphere, and although it is fairly busy during the lunch hour, the waitstaff was quick and attentive. The lunch menu is short but all of the sections seem to be substantial and tasty. The only vegetarian option is a vegetarian burrito, which, being at a Japanese restaurant, makes one immediately skeptical, but it is delicious. Filled with rice, kimchi and other vegetables, it makes for a filling lunch option. It is also a great value at only 6 euro.

This is a place that I've been meaning to go to for ages and I regret delaying my visit! The food was simple and delicious, the staff were friendly and knowledgable and don't get me started on the craic we had with the karaoke downstairs! My only tiny criticism is that the karaoke rooms need to be better ventilated so as to accommodate all the dancing and air guitars!

I don't know why I didn't review this one before as I go there quite often on my lunch breaks. Small place with a casual atmosphere, good selection of drinks and some asian food. Free wi-fi, friendly staff and quick service. I had a problem using the local wi-fi and they were really helpfull and made it work again so I could use it. Not the best, but the food can be quite nice, good portions.

Four of us went for a meal on Arthur's day, before heading off for a few pints of plain. Two of us had the Bento box, which was a decent meal providing a nice bit of variety. The chicken satay skewers were tasty and meaty, and rice was plentyful. There was also some sushi included although it was fairly straight forward. My wife had the eel, which she found interesting and tasty. The eel meat was decent and tender. We had beers to accompany the meal, but there was not a great variety of beers. We went for the japanese beers which were decent, although a bit watery.

My husband and I went to Uki Yo last night after a music concert at the Olympia. It was quite late, but the waiter was friendly and efficient, even at the end of a long day. I had the bento box, with Miso soup; at 18€ it is reasonable, as Japanese restaurants go in this country. Glass of wine was good too. I'd go back.

Went to Ukiyo recently for dinner with a group of friends to celebrate a birthday. We shared some starters which included dumplings, half of which were badly burnt on the bottom. Everyone was happy with the rest of the food but it was very slow coming out and service was not up to scratch. We had to remind the waiter on a couple of occassions about our drinks orders and when we asked how much longer the main course would be (we had been waiting for quite a considerable time!) we got a very short, borderline rude, response. It's a real shame as it spoiled our evening a bit (had to change plans for the rest of the night as we were so late finishing up). I've eaten here many times before and really enjoyed it - not sure I'll be back after this experience though.

I went to Uki Yo with a group of friends for a birthday celebration. The food was very tasty and very good value. The menu is a bit different in the restaurant than online, less choice. I had dumplings for a starter which came in a large portion. The deal for the evening was 4 different tasters for €15. There were chicken, tiger prawns, mackerel, side salad with rice and miso soup. Very good value and very tasty, great way to get to taste a few things. The service is a bit so so but acceptable. After the meal we went downstairs to sing karaoke which was a nice way to continue the evening. It is a nice place to bring a group.

This cozy restaurant rarely fails to impress me. The food is always great, I usually have lunch here and the bento box is always good. Had dinner a few times too (try the braized pork belly with pak choi) and was even better. The place goes crazy during weekends after midnight or so when it turns into a cocktail bar with great music, well done...

I havent eaten here for ages, so while passing with a friend the other day in need of lunch it was decided to pop in again. The place is only small but bright and airy, with floor to celing windows all round, in a corner building. Tofu salad was orderd by both of us and was clean and crisp with plenty of tofu, and a large portion for the price. When asked if salmon could be subitutied for eel in a maki roll,as one of the party was pregnant we were told it could not be done, as eel was on the menu and having had eel futomaki in other places i thought this odd, squid was orderd in its place, but was just squid rings deep fried, like what you would find in many other places and not very good, the aubergine was too heavily seasoned and also not great. As we only orderd two starters each and some tea it wasnt expensive, i have had lovley evenings here before, but was just a little let down this time, it wont put me off returning however.

The last time I was here was several years back and had heard a good few reviews of this place since. The menu was revamped.I must say I was surprised that this place was buzzing with live on a monday night. There were only 2 waiters between the tables and the karaoke on the basement level. One of the waiter was new on the job-so that didnt help. For starters, we shared tuna carpacio which was finesse. The slices were so delicate we had great difficulty picking it up with chopsticks and the wasabi mayonnaise complemented it well. For mains, I was disappointed that they ran out of unagi-so we opted for the salmon teriyaki which was accompanied by sweet teriyaki sauce.Tasty but not spectacular. As for the karaoke session-there was a THICK compilation of songs. However not all the songs were detected on the playlist and the mikes were mostly faulty. In fairness-the waiter did spend a fair amount of time fixing the problem.

I was looking for a place to eat on an early sunday lunch. Lots of places were closed and it seems there was a power shortage affecting few stores also. We ended up for a bento box at ukiyo. The place was very quiet and we were the first customers. We were promptly served our miso which was good but a bit salty. Then after that the bento box arrived with tempura haddock, prawn sushi, stir fry chicken dish, some salad and a bowl of rice. As usual it was a good value meal. The waitress was friendly and service was fast.

Arrived here for lunch last week and was treated very well on arrival. I only decided to go in on a whim at lunch time because I was starving. I decided to go for the lunch time bento box. I was in complete awe by the amount of food that was provided for a mere ten euro. 6 dishes for 10 euro and so much food that I couldn't even finish half of it. The food itself was nice, the katsu curry had a nice taste to it. The miso soup and sushi were quite good as well but i didn't really take to the squid. Although the food wasn't amazing, I will definitely go back for the value.

We have visited Ukiyo twice in the last month, and both times we were pleased with the friendly and efficient service. You have to be willing to wait for about twenty minutes for some of the main courses, but in the case of the beef bulgogi, it's well worth it. My boyfriend always orders it and finds it delicious. The helping is quite large, meaning that ordering the extras is entirely unnecessary. I have had the bi bim bap which is an interesting dish consisting of vegetables, rice, salad leaves, a fried egg and two different sauces. The idea is that you add as much of the two sauces as you wish and then mix all the ingredients throughout the meal. The flavours develop the more you mix. I was really impressed with this meal, which when it arrived made me apprehensive. As for desserts, we always have the cheesecake which is beautifully gooey and quite rich. There tends to be a good atmosphere in this restaurant as it's popular with the young, professional crowd.

A big group of us ate here recently for a going away do. For the most part everyone was very happy with the food. The service was excellent also. The karaoke downstairs was a great laugh, though I was dreading it beforehand. They have a great selection and great facilities. I would highly recommend this spot for a memorable night out.

Ate here for the first time last night with 7 friends. Excellent meal and atmosphere. Just had main courses as were going down to Karaoke afterwards. Highlights were beef with vegetables and the Pork Belly. Excellent cocktails too.Very good service - friendly staff. Quality of food excellent. Had a brilliant time at the Karaoke downstairs although room very bijoux for 8 people and it is supposed to be for 10! Liked facility for tab for the Karaoke and staff very obliging about bringing drinks down to room - great service. Will be back!

Went there during the SoGo festival with friends who had been before. We all ordered starters and mains and ended up sharing them out. Portion sizes more than generous, everything was delicious, really relaxed atmosphere, only down side was they were out of prawns, something about suppliers but had the vegetarian dumplings and the mackerel were both superb. Would recommend it to everyone, suitable for all kinds of groups, defo going to go back. :)

We were a large party and we were well looked after. The food is an mixture from Japan, Korea and maybe a hint of European. The place isn't suitable for a quiet meal but is great for large groups. Service was fast and most importantly given the night we were having the bar service and selection is very good. We'll be back but only as a group booking.

Came here with a fairly large group. Our table wasn't ready on our arrival, but we didn't mind waiting. Food was lovely, I started with beef springrolls as they didn't have any peking duck. I had the BBQ Eel for my main, I would highly recommend that dish. The Karaoke was also very good. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening, not suitable for formal dining but a good place to go for a casual evening.. I'll be back

Had lunch here the other day with my girlfriend! We went for two bento boxes. On sushi and one normal one! They were 10 and 16 euro and i have to say it was a load of food. It was really good value. They were out of Japanese beer which was a shame but can’t be helped. My only complaint is the cloth they used to clean the table when we came in was mingin and I could just smell nasty cloth for most of the meal which was not very nice. So maybe if they used a spray instead of an old cloth that sat in the sink all day. Other then that id say 10 out of 10, and a great birthday lunch.

Love Ukiyo, have eaten there so many times but it never gets boring. The restaurant has a really nice atmosphere especially at the weekend when its buzzing. The marinated mackerel is really good, haven't tasted mackerel that good anywhere else. The bento box specials they are doing are such good value & a really nice selection of food. And the best is the dessert amaretto cheesecake with almond icecream - again its like no other cheesecake I've ever tasted. This is not just a karaoke bar people the food is delish!

This is an excellent spot to try out a Japanese bento box. Its a dinner served up as 4 separate dishes that combine seafood meat and vegetarian dishes. I have been going regularly nolw as the food is always very fresh and they always allow me to swap out the chicken or pork dish for another seafood option. And with an early bird bento going for €10 its happy days at Ukiyo;)

I had been there before and had been impressed with the atmosphere, service and food. However, I went there on Sunday where I was disappointed on all three counts. Service was terrible, it was 25mins before we got miso soup! We asked for things to be brought separately (i.e. soup as a starter than the other food as a main) but everything turned up together. My friend choked on the squid an no one even came to ask if she was ok or even how the food was! The staffs were inattentive even though the place was deserted and instead chatted at the bar. I had the salmon teriyaki and while the fish was cooked well the sauce was too heavy with over cooked green beans. Finally I asked for herbal tea and after waiting 20mins decided to pay and leave. ->completely disappointed.

I ate here with a group of friends (we had pre-booked, which I’d recommend you do as the place gets very busy). The food was really nice. The dishes that went down very well with the group were the bulgogi beef, peking duck, and chicken wings. For a Japanese restaurant I was disappointed they didn’t have more of a sushi selection. Also, the service wasn’t great, to be honest. We kept having to ask for drinks, and they didn’t automatically replace the napkins and cutlery after the starters (so we had to ask them for that as well). At the end of our meal we paid and I had to ask for the change back. I guess the server thought we were giving an extra tip on top of the service charge?! Anyways, I do recommend the place – the food is very good.

Brought my menupages voucher for a friend's birthday for dinner and karaoke. Though I only gave the food 3.5/5 stars, I generally have a high standard so it was actually good, not to mention that the bento box deal was great. Service was excellent, and the guys were very generous with the karaoke hours. Overall a great place for a birthday night out, or if you're into karaoke.

Went to Ukiyo for a quick bite on a Thursday. Quite a different atmosphere to the weekend where you can't even walk in, the place is that busy. Quiet and cosy. The dinner was lovely and reasonable. Just make sure you book in advance if you intend to get a table on the weekend!

I visited this retaurant with a group of friends and first off the place was freezing so wear your woolies!!. Had duck for starter and found it very fatty. I had steak which was lovely but others had monk fish which was done in batter but does not state this on the menu. The rice accompanying the dishes was inedible. While some of us had a lovely meal some of the party had a very disappointing meal. Had early cocktails for 5 euro but when the bill arrived all cocktails were charged at 10 euro on the bill. No problem changing it once it was pointed out. Karoke was great fun but I would definitely skip the meal.

I came here for a birthday party on Saturday. There was ten of us and we were seated in the middle of the restaurant, which was fine, apart from the air that interrupted me about twenty times during my meal as smokers/ customers came in and out. The staff we very nice and attentive throughout the meal, apart from at the end we certainly had the feeling that we were being rushed on. I started with Nasu Miso, which was half a baked aubergine with a sweet miso sauce. The aubergine was fine, small bit burnt at the edges. The sauce on the other hand was really not to my taste. I removed it and then was basically left with half an aubergine to eat. For main I ordered Bi Bim Bap, which was a selection of vegetables on rice with a fried egg over the top. It came with two types of sauce on the side. Although a very simple dish, it was really tasty, I would definitely order it again as a really healthy option. I would come again, the Karoke is great fun!

I was in Ukyio with some friends, the place was packed and we were asked to wait despite of the reservation. I got the tuna loin, it was good but the portion was kinda of small. I like the place's decor.

My missus decided for her birthday we should have some sushi for lunch so we decided to try Ukiyo out. Prices for lunch looked good and inside was fine. My missus went for 2 different sushi dishes & I tried the bento box special. The sushi I was told was good and the bento box was tasty too, no sushi bento boxes but a mix of hot Oriental dishes. The food made up for the slow service as we waited at least 15minutes before our order was taken and then a good bit for the food to come which was well welcome by then! Instead of waiting for the bill to come we got up and paid at the till. For the food, well worth trying again for dinner & a little kareoke.

Went here for a girls night out on Jan 2. Was quiet due to the date and the weather I presume. They were out of a few menu items, most notably the pork belly, which was disappointing, but in general the menu is varied and interesting. Everyone was very satisfied with both their starters and mains. For starters the beef spring rolls and tuna carpaccio stole the show. The seafood Ramen and Bibimap were real winners as main courses. We were pretty full so only one Eton mess was ordered and devoured. It was lovely and tangy with fresh raspberries. We stuck with one of the house white wines which was 25 euro. After dinner we went downstairs for karaoke. The rooms are a bit dirty and dingy but after awhile we were having so much fun we barely noticed. All in all a great night and we'd definitely go back.

First time here and really enjoyed the ambience. Food was excellent and the staff were just fantastic. We were a group of 19 out on our Christmas night out. The karaoke downstairs was great fun and was a perfect end to an excellent night. 10 out of 10. Would definitely go back there.

My friend and I enjoyed an evening meal here after work one evening. I was surprised at how busy it was for a thursday evening. I ordered the Bul Go Gi (pan fried beef with mixed veg) and my friend had the Chapche with beef (rice, noodles, beef and veg) We both enjoyed our main courses, my friend so much so that she got her leftovers boxed to take home. Food Great, Atmosphere Great, Service Great and i will definately be back.

I used my menupages voucher for one free main course here last night with a friend. I had the monkfish teriyaki and my friend went for the yaki tori chicken. We split the sushi of the day for a starter. Sushi was very good, staff were lovely but my main course wasn't as nice as the last time i visited which was disappointing because I was really looking forward to having the dish again. I'd definitely come back for the sushi and the staff were very friendly. Also, it was very affordable because I used my menupoints

Came here before but this time with a group for my birthday and I used my menu points for a free main and 1 hour of karaoke. Service wasn't that good in the beginning, they took forever getting food out. The first waiter was very short and when I asked about the half off cocktail menu, he quickly confirmed and I kid you not, walked away with all our menus without even asking if we would like to look at the cocktail menu or order any, we had to wave him back. He then also got a bit snooty when we wanted to order more than 2 each even though it was before the cut off time (7pm). It's not advertised anywhere in the restaurant so make sure you ask before ordering. Half way through our meal our waiter changed and the new one was sooooo pleasant and attentive! He had no problem with us getting more cocktails, I mean what's better, half off cocktails or us buying no overpriced cocktails at regular price at all? I also brought a little cake I got a Dunnes and asked as a joke if he would serve it to us, he said yes with no hesitation and brought it out on cute serving plates and even put a candle in it for me to blow out! At no extra charge! I will be back but I hope I get the nice waiter again!

Had an excellent Bento box here recently. It was early lunchtime and the place was very quiet so low points for atmosphere. However, the food was delicious and portions were generous for a mere €10!! Definitely recommended.

Went with a group for a birthday with some karaoke afterwards, which was great fun. I had the pork belly which was delicious although a little fatty. It came with a very tasty sweet, sticky teriyaki sauce and rice for no extra charge. The sauce was perfect for the pork. For those not interested in rice/noodles, as you would expect in a Japanese style restaurant there is no alternative. The rice was cooked in a Japanese style that perfectly accompanied the main. The service was excellent and our waiter was very friendly. They even let us bring our own cake in for the birthday girl with no extra charge. However, be warned. The receipt claims that the 10% service charge goes to the staff. This is not true, we asked the staff and they claimed it goes towards "overheads". This left a slightly sour taste in our mouths.

Deciced to try out the Bento Box deal with a friend. Absolutely loved it! Amazing value at €10. The deal includes 4 tasty dishes which changes daily, Miso soup and rice. We were surprised that the 4 dishes were so big and we were stuffed after it! The staff were really accomodating and offered to change one of the four seafood options to a meat choice. We arrived at about 5 p.m and the atmosphere was pretty chilled. I'm sure its more hectic later in the evenings when Karaoke is on! Will definitely return:)

Ate here last Friday with two friends. We each had the Bento box which is great value at 10 euro and a great way to try a variety of dishes. Cocktails are half price before 7pm, another good reason to give this place a try. Staff were great, service was good, food was good. Will definitely be back.

A group of 10 of us ate here and there were mixed opinions about the food. One guy couldn't even taste the flavours of his meat dish as it was so spicy! The vegetarian noodle dish consisted of noodles in soya sauce and chopped up raw vegetables...a weird combination to say the least! The vegetarian bento box went down well...especially the peanutty green beans. At first, I was sceptical about the karaoke as the basement rooms give off a very seedy impression but it was actually great craic! They had an unbelievable selection of music to choose from. I must admit that the rooms are a bit squashy for 10 to sit comfortably in...I'd say 7 or 8 would be comfier.

My friend surprised me for my birthday by bringing me here with a bunch of my friends. We started off having a cocktail and then moved on to the meal. We all shared starters and then I got the sizzling beef dish which was absolutely amazing. I really enjoyed the food but thought that it could have been a little bit cheaper. We then went downstairs for some karaoke which was brilliant. We all had so much fun and ended up singing the night away. I would totally recommend this place if its just for a meal or meal and karaoke!

went there last monday and me and my house mate shared a sushi plate for the starter and i have got to tell you it was really really good. I then ordered seabass and my housemate ordered the steak. My fish was nothing special i could of cooked better at home the flavour was boring it was like drinking water. The steak however even though rather pricy was all worth the price it was one of the best steaks i have ever tasted, good quality meat and really nice flavours i only wish the fish was cooked the same way. The service was rather ordinary waiters probably require more training.

We went as a group of 10 and so got given the menu for large groups. Not a lot of variety on the menu, only one thing really appealed to me. The meal itself was ok, if not a little on the bland and dry side. Karaoke downstairs was fun, but not what I expected, could have been done a bit better. Overall a fun night out.

This wouldn’t exactly be my cup of tea. The food was lovely and fresh, the portions were generous, the service and the atmosphere are good, but it just doesn’t hit the flavour spot for me. The food really is a little bland.

Ate here last Wednesday later in the evening. I haven't been here for a good while. Service was good. One of the things I used to like about this restaurant was the cocktails - very big glasses, Ketel One vodka and imaginative combinations. The new menu looks the same, but the Plum Sake cocktail I ordered was appalling. Tasteless and dull - the worst cocktail I've drunk in Dublin. reminded me of watered down sake... with added water. The wine was nice for the price and big too by the glass. The food is pretty much the same as it was, the Tuna carpaccio was nice, the sushi was tasteless but looked nice [which is really all that matters in a place like this]. The Tofu salad was a nice salad with big, ugly cold lumps of Tofu pelted into it with wild abandon. No wonder so many people dislike tofu here when it is introduced to them in this way. Very young vibe, which was appropriate for the faux sophistication of the food. In short - nice ambience, good staff, rubbish cocktails [which makes me very sad], food good quality prepared with minimal effort.

I keep going back to this place, its perfect if you are going out for something nice to eat at night or if you're just meeting friends for lunch. I havent done the Karoke yet..but theres time! The aubergine starter is amazing, and the main course with the seaweed wraps is great, you can make your own sushi! They also have really good specials. The waiters are really friendly too.

We stopped in here one weekday evening when we were looking for a quick bite to eat. Their Bento Box special offer was running (with one bottle of beer included) so we both went for that option. This was *plenty* of food and it was all of great quality. Our waiter was friendly and efficient. I would definitely stop in again for an after-work meal...

The food is amazingly delicious, not far away from an authentic Japanese menu! Unfortunately the karaoke room was too small and unexciting for a group of 12 people, in actual fact its only fits for 6 pax. The manager should be more informative about the condition of the venue before accepting all of us in the room. However, I will definitely come back for more yummy food. Kampai!

Myself and my girlfriend are nuts about place, and we eat here often when i'm in Dublin. The Bento Box is unbelievably good value: miso soup, a selection of four dishes, rice, and a half litre of yummy Japenese beer -- all for fifteen euro before seven, and seventeen after. The resturant is pleasing to the eye, music pleasing to the ear, the staff seem happy to be there; an all-round good vibe.

Called in last night with two Korean visitors who I was hoping to impress with a taste of home for them. We were not disappointed. Food was excellent and very authentic. Staff were friendly and very acommadating. Decor of the restaurent was pleasnat and overall we had a really enjoyable evening. The bill was more than reasonable considering the amount of food and drinks we got. Will call again soon.

Excellent little sushi place. Its a similar standard to what one would expect from San Francisco's famous sushi places. Service was good, and as far as Dublin prices go, it wasn't expensive. I would go again.

I was here with a friend for lunch one Saturday. We booked but needn't have, as it was very quiet. That wasnt necessarily a bad thing though. AS soon as you enter Ukiyo, it smells good, like a proper Asian restaurant should, all rice and delicious spices. The lunch menu is very good value for money. Since we went the day the pork scare broke, we werent able to have things as the were on the menu but the staff were more than accommodating things so that we could still have want we wanted. The food is a modern take on Japanese and Korean fusion, so its not exactly how you would imagine some of the dishes to turn out. My friends bimbimbap for example was served in a bowl not a hot pot but she was happy with it. My kimchi chigae was absolutely delicious, just like back in Korea. They have a large wine and sake list too, of which some was partaken in ensuring Xmas wishes were passed along. I would definitely go back here.

A group of us went here for a Christmas celebration and everyone had a great time. Our food was slow in arriving due to technical difficulties! but our waiter explained the situation to us and admitted responsibility so honesty is always appreciated. The starters were nice but the main courses were really outstanding. Very fresh and flavoursome. Then followed karaoke! What a laugh. Would definitely recommend this place for something different!!

Went here with a large group before using the karoke downstairs. Good Atmosphere, beautiful Sea Bream for my main which fell off the bone tender and beautiful not too keen on any of the starters but the fish could not be faulted. Pricy enough though

Chic, funky, and the hippest Japaness/Korean joint in town. It may not be the cheapest place in town but the food is consistently excellent, fresh, and full of flavor. The staff are bright and helpful and easy on the eye and knowledgeable about the food they're serving. The music is top notch, ranging from Boney M to Bob Marley Remixes. Owner Duncan is the host with the most and has excellent customer relation pinache.

i have visited on a number of occasions and it has always been very buzzy and atmosperic although be warned, large groups go before the karaoke and it can get a bit too loud sometimes. the food is lovely, you always feel quite healthy after going here. the service has been somewhat hit and miss, on one occasion we were asked to move twice to accomodate larger groups which is somewhat annoying when your trying to eat but all in all its a nice place and the karaoke booths downstairs are fab

This is such a great place. I've been here for lunch loads of times as the bento boxes for €10 are always gorgeous and they're amazing value at that price! They also serve Asahi Japanese beer which I love.

I guess this is really one for the evening time. I went on a Saturday afternoon with 2 friends for a good old fashioned girly lunch and gossip. We were one of only 2 lunch parties which meant the atmosphere was lacking in the empty restaurant. The food was scrumptious; we all braved dishes that we'd never tried and were rewarded with dishes of steaming hot yumminess. If I was to go again I'd go in the evening instead as I think there would be a more 'buzzing' feel to the place.

tried their 6 Euro lunch menu few days ago. It was shredded chicken with rice. Simple meal and considered very good value compared to others around this area. We also shared a starter of jelly fish, very refreshing. Nice atmosphere with friendly staffs. will be back to try other menu.

Brought a group of 10 people here last week and everyone enjoyed themselves very much. Food wise, all the dishes went down well, both starters and main course minus one person's order going missing. The food is not spectacular but no one complained. The karaoke is really the reason to come here and that was great fun, pretty cheap with a huge range of songs. Some minor complaints, the rooms could be cleaned a bit better and the phone upstairs to the bar only works (or is answered) intermittently but it didn't stop our enjoyment. The whole restaurant becomes a really good club later so that's a great way of ending the night. All in all, a perfect night out for a small group.

I came here with a load of work friends and we had a fantastic evening. I like the atmosphere in this restaurant and they served us quickly. I ordered raw tuna for starter and it came on a square plate which was covered in very thin square sheets of tuna which I thought was really unusual and well presented. The sea bass was gorgeous for main course. I don't remember the dessert as I was quite drunk on their fine wine by this point!! Karaoke afterwards was hilarious, I really thought I'd be leaving at this point, but the booths were so much fun - it's great you can sing as a group with people you know instead of standing up in a large room in front of everyone. Really enjoyable evening.

Was here on the 30th August for my hen party. We had gone for the set menu. Impressive selection and the staff were accommodating as a couple of people were late. Food was not great - maybe it was just what I ordered but had chicken skewers to start with. Dry and found a chewy gristly bit. Then beef - nice but accompanied by a sticky splodge of heavy and bland rice. Dessert was good though and the karaoke after was unbeatable. Think they could do with a separate entrance tho as the smokers felt rude traipsing through the restaurant and interrupting the other diners each time they wanted to have a smoke. Overall great fun for karaoke but won't be going back for the food in a hurry.

I love this place.. the food is great.. the place is always buzzing.. and after a few beers.. or glasses of wine.. you can then head downstairs and sing karaoke for an hour... its genius!! You even order your drinks via a small phone in your karaoke room. THis place is great for a night out.. the food is very good and excellent value.

Went here for the early bird - 3 dishes and a beer or mojito for €15. Great value, and everything was really tasty. Menu is now much more Japanese, featuring really good eel, jellyfish, pumpkin and lotus root, although quite spicy in style. The soju mojito was fantastic! Definitely recommended.

I was there for an evening meal with friends. The starters were very nice, particularly the pork dumplings, and the baked aubergine was interesting. The bulgogi main course (beef) was fine, without being particularly unusual. Dessert, a dark chocolate tarte with orange, was quite nice. Overall, quite good, not amazing, but great starters.

We were there yesterday for the early bird. 3 courses + 1 drink for EUR 15.00. This is good value. The food was good, but not exceptional though. I recommend it, but will go back there only if I don't have any other option.

I went here for a quick bite before going to a play. Their early bird menu is the best value around. It gives you a choice of 3 dishes from a taster menu along with a choice of one beer or mojito all for €15. The food was lovely and so was the mojito. The waitress was really friendly and very helpful with the menu. Will definitely be going back.

Ate here last Tuesday with 3 other friends. Loved the place. Brilliant value. The 5 to 7 menu allows you to choose three small dishes and a beer for €15.00. The tofu salad was great. Decent size portions too. The only thing I would mark the service down on is because the waiter cleared my friends plates away even tho I was still eating. Other than that this place is A1 and I will defo be back again

Had lunch here it was really good, very cheap. It's basically a Korean restaurant, had a lovely traditional dish there that was the kind of thing you crave afterwards. Just noticed another reviewer was disappointed in a dessert, but ethnic restaurants are not the place for desserts I find.

First of all let me tell you: at Euro 9,50 for a tiny chocolate & ginger tart, the suggested price range for this casual restaurant is completely wrong! Except for all those Michelin-star restaurants and Shanahan's, I don't remember to have paid this amount for a dessert anywhere in my life! Ireland does not stop to surprise hu? Now for the positives, extremely tasty food and friendly service. I loved the way they garnish every dish too. Their menu is strongly Korean-based and their Kim Chi rocks! (if you like this type of thing). Having to recommend a dish, my pork belly was delicious. I would definitely come back to UkiYo but will be careful to order the dessert of the day without asking for its price.

I went here with my boyfriend and was rather unimpressed with the choice on the evening menu and the ambiance. I thought I would give it a shot with some friends over from London who I had lived in Japan with but again the limited menu options made it very difficult. I'd say the karaoke would be fun if only because this is one of the few venues in Dublin to go to.

Food beautiful, atmosphere great for a large gathering, as I went for a romantic meal with my boyfriend it wasn't quite what we were looking for, but that was our fault! Didn't try the karaoke but plan on it some day. Great value for money in an atmosphere that feels expensive! Would highly recommend a visit!

Went for a 40th birthday meal here and we pretty much took up the whole place. I found it to be quite pleasant. I loved the Yakitori starter, but wasn't as mad about beef fillet main course. It was cooked perfectly, but the quality of the meat let it down. The Saki they give you to drink is lovely and I didn't even notice the staff zipping about attending to us all, so the service really is excellent. A little music upstairs to match the setting would be an idea tough. Seems like its a very quite place; until we arrived anyway :)

An interesting take on a Japanese Karaoke restaurant by Dublin standards. The food is very well presented and I'd definitely recommend the rack of sake. I didn't get a chance to try the Karaoke, but I will next time.

I have visited Ukiyo on three occasions to eat and I have to say the food was of equally high standard each time. There is a proliferation of Asian cuisine in Dublin and a lot of it is average to poor in quality and the service tends to be slow and uninterested or brash. But Ukiyo is an exception to this rule the staff tend mostly to either speak English as their first language or have very good English, which makes life easier. The menu is small but with a good variation of dishes. Something for the more conservative diner as well as the more adventurous. The food is presented nicely and the ingredients were always fresh and of high quality. Ukiyo also does karaoke downstairs and I would highly recommend this as its great fun and a fairly good value night out.

Great place for a night out with friends. Karaoke bar a must. The food is fantastic. Had a steak dish, but loads to choose from including eel, noodles, plenty of fish... Portions are huge and prices are very reasonable. 10 of us all had starter and main, about 5 bottles of wine and 4/5 beers only €30 each and karaoke to top it off… Great night out.

Very disappointing. I used to go there from time to time and always enjoyed it. But went there with friends this week and it was a totally different experience. The menu had changed. I had the Prawns for starter and they were tasteless- big...but tasteless. The worse part was the noodles. They are trying to be really Uapanese except that they don't have any idea of flavours. Won't go back.

I went there last Friday night with some friends. I had the mackeral and thought it was gorgeous. At first I wondered whether the portions would be enough (I was starving) but the dish was the perfect size. My friends had the salmon teriyaki and the beef with noodles and they were both very happy with their choices. I had some lovely warm sake and the sake & cava cocktail. Most of us went for dessert - I had the almond milk icecream affogato - and they also went down very well. I thought the atmosphere was great: lively but still condusive to conversation. My friends also got the house red which they thought was yum. We had a great couple of hours down in the karaoke room - wasn't long enough!

Me and my partner went in for the early bird menu. 3 meals one drink for 15 euro. Brilliant! Had the tofu salad. Never had tofu before tasted fab. Had rice and miso, and sushi. Partner choose some dishes which left him a little hungry. But he had some of mine as they were generous portions. It wasn't overly busy and it wasn't exactly dead on the Saturday we went in. We arrived in at 6.45 and got the early bird which finished at 7. Very nice staff. I will be back for sure! Great place for a mid weekend cheap and cheeful meal.

I wouldn't get the early bird menu if you are in anyway hungry. €15 for a selection of three options from the menu plus a free drink seemed like good value but the choices we both made did not fill either of us. In saying that, two of my options, the eel and the pork spring rolls, were very tasty and my boyfriend liked all his choices too. Unfortunately the service wasn't great either, we were hardly given enough time to make our choices and when we asked for the bill we were left waiting ages. Granted there was only one waitress staffing the whole restuarant, which is hardly sufficient for a Saturday evening.

Went out on a Tuesday night for dinner and decided to give Ukiyo a try. Had been told that it was a nice spot and wasn't disappointed. The food was good, the service was excellent, although it was very quiet (being a Tuesday night I can't fault the restaurant for this though!!) and overall it was a good choice. I could imagine this being a great place for a smallish group of friends to go for food and few drinks then move down to one of the karaoke rooms and sing the night away... I'll be going back to give it a go anyway!!

We went here for the early bird menu, which allows you to choose three dishes from a set menu. I was not really sure what I was ordering and ended up with a strange combination of different dishes but was able to swap a couple with my friend who also had an unusual mix of food. It was quite nice and the small portions surprisingly filling but what made the meal was the free drink. I’m not really sure what it was but it contained mint leaves and lemon and it tasted amazing. Would go here again.

Was here with work collegues last night. Everyone's meals were fantastic. Great variety, and lots of stuff for the token veggie we brought. Really tasty all round and huge portions. Atmosphere was good, and the staff were very friendly.

We went here early evening on a Friday, so the fun hadn’t begun yet! Menu was good; I was very torn over what to have! The waiter was friendly and as I’m allergic to peanuts I asked him to tell me if any of what I was ordering contained any peanut oil. He said yes, of course, he would check with the kitchen, but I got no feedback. We eventually asked another waitress who confirmed it was ok. My prawn sushi was delicious; my boyfriend said that it was the best sushi he'd tasted. The only thing I'd say is that I wish they'd given me wasabi with it instead of mayonnaise. The big rack of different sakis my boyfriend ordered was interesting to try! He had a spicy salad to start, which he really liked. After my agonising over my main course, (I eventually went with a spicy squid stir-fry) it arrived and when I tried it, I knew I wanted my boyfriend's dinner instead! (The BBQ eel). The squid was lovely and cooked just right, the veggies were crunchy and nice, but the sauce was just too hot for my taste. I’d underestimated the "spicy"! Fabulous big mushrooms in it though and the portion of rice was light and nice (although for the huge portion of sauce and stir-fry, and the spicy flavour, I could have done with a tad more). My boyfriend loved his main course of eel (it was cooked beautifully) and was something different. (I was so jealous of him, I’ll definitely order that next time!!). The place itself is nice, I liked the traditional Japanese doors and the old posters and it seemed like the kind of place you could have a bit of a "lost" night in (which is a good thing!). I definitely want to go back some time, a bit later in the evening and experience the atmosphere then...and order that yummy eel!!

Had a great night here with friends recently. Food was delicious with very generous servings. Service was a little slow at times as the place was full with large parties. Overall would well recommend, especially if dining with friend.

Food is great, staff are great, karaoke is great. The booths have a direct phone line to the bar... My most recent visit was last Saturday after the Dublin match. The food was delicious, good service with a smile. There is a great, fun atmosphere here. Exactly what you want from a city centre restaurant. Prices are very reasonable too. A great nite is guaranteed at Ukiyo. Beware of those who say they won't want to sing! As they'll end up hogging the mic! Great fun & food...

Extremely salty food, and not as fresh as it could be. Esp. the Umeboshi salad: the radish tasted as though it had been grated the day before, and been soaked in salt. Other items on the menu were so-so, but once again, very salty. Otherwise, nice atmosphere, and friendly service. But food a real let down.

We went on a Saturday evening and the place was filled with Hens and Stag parties waiting to head down to the karaoke bar downstairs, I thought this was the start of a disastrous evening, but to my surprise, they really took excellent care of us, we never waited for anything and if I'm totally honest, the hens and stags never bothered us as Food was out of this world, we even finished with their Sake tasting menu, which was the perfect end to a perfect meal. Will definitely go back.

This place is great for a night out or a bite to eat. They do a very reasonable early bird. The tuna is excellent. All the staff are friendly and attentive. Thumbs up !!

Tried their early bird menu which was good value - a beer/mojito and three dishes off the menu for €15. The dishes are quite small but tasty and if you choose carefully can be very filling.

Went to Ukiyo for a hen night, had a great laugh. Staff were very nice. Picked badly off the menu, my food was only ok. Tasted some of the other dishes though, would highly recommend the carpaccio of tuna and the sea bream. Great atmosphere, good and lively.

Ate here recently as a change. It was disappointing, as I couldn't eat my starter, tasted like a bowl of salt. My main course was delicious, but my friend wasn't impressed with his. Overall the service was good and the atmosphere was nice, but I wouldn't go back in a hurry.

Had lunch here with a friend of mine a week ago. The food was disappointing to say the least. Doesn't quite look like it's authentic Japanese food. Wouldn't hazard another try unless a radical change in the menu is planned. The waiting staff though are friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is reasonable.

Contrary to other reviews here, I found the food to be really below par. The salad was ok. However we both had beef and both found it tasted off and had too strong a taste of soy sauce and nothing else. I definitely didn't think the food was authentic Japanese and presumed we have chosen a dish with Korean origins?

Yay! Finally we found a Japanese restaurant in Dublin where you get what you pay for! I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this place, the food was great, the service was great and the bill wasn't an enormous shock. The Peking duck entree was absolutely divine, the portions were generous, and even the wine was good.

Went here on Friday with a big gang from work. Staff were unbelievably friendly and nice to us. Had chicken starter, which was lovely, and the sea bass for my main. It was absolutely delicious and light. Then headed downstairs for the singing. Brilliant night out and great value. Would recommend it for a different night out.

We went there for someone's birthday and had awhale of a time. The food isn't bad and the service is good. We went downstairs afterwards to the karaoke suites and had a very cheesy night with loads of beer and 80's songs. One of the best nights out in a long time!!

Went there on a quiet Sunday evening with a friend. Tasted all that different sake they offer in a small portions. It's good if you don't really know which one to order. Staff was quite friendly, explained and recommended what to order. Food was nice and we'll definitely go there again.

Gang of us went, had an interesting experience with all the different Sake. Food was good, plenty of it. Didn’t try the set menu even though there were enough of us. Had an absolute ball afterwards downstairs:)

Pleasantly surprised. Luckily we had just 8 people going for dinner. If there is 9 or more we would have to go for the set menu and have at least 2 courses for ˆ30. Menu selection isn't the best but ok. The best bit was after dinner we went down to our private karaoke room and had a ball!
