Went to trocaderos on 19/5/12 for my daughters communion. food was beautiful , nice atmospere and my daughter was made feel very special on the evening. Great Service and although it was not cheap you do get get food for your money -- so well for value excellent. I ordered rack of lamb with rosemary jue and it just melted in your mouth. Children also enjoyed the food (which was NOT chicken nuggets and chips ) . Over all I would recommend this restaurant with top marks.

The place is very nice, the atmosphere is ok, I'd highly recommend go for the Theatre Menu for €25, is cheaper and worth it. We ate goat cheese (to much thick, but is impossible to glad everybody) the deep fried brie (nice) and breast duck (delicious). The dessert is very tasty, but I think is too much expensive is a thinner slice of cake/tart/etc and costs €8, but if you go for the Theatre Menu the dessert is include, so... :D The staff very good!!!

We went here for the pre-theatre menu on a Friday afternoon –the place was very quiet but got busy very quickly after 6 so we were glad of our booking. Firstly, our waiter was really friendly and attentive and was happy to request a nice wine to go with our food choices; he made the whole evening a pleasure. The choices on the menu were lovely; we chose the goats cheese salad and the deep fried brie, both of which were delicious. For main we had the duck breast and the sea bass, again both of which were delicious and perfectly cooked. The choice of deserts was small but still tasty! Overall our meal was reasonably priced, €25.50 each plus wine. I would highly recommend this place for food, atmosphere and location.

Had not been to the Trocadero for a long time. Booked the early Theater dinner for two. We had the Fried Brie and Goats Cheese for starters followed by the Duck, then Creme Brulee and Profiteroles washed down with the house wine Pinot Grigio. It was the best dinning experience we have had in a long time in Dublin. Excellent food, great service with a smile and we will be going back. Also, great value for money. Cant wait until our next visit.

I dined here on a Saturday night with my husband and two of our friends. From the time we came into the restaurant we were welcomed warmly and looked after very well thereafter. I cannot say enough about the service here - efficient, ever-pleasant, nothing was too much trouble. I had the asparagus starter while others had soup and crab pot. All were very happy. On to mains and I had sea bass. I'm being a bit picky here but it was slightly over-cooked but still tasted delicious. The others had salmon, monkfish and steak. I tasted my husband's monkfish which was divine. Desserts didn't disappoint either with me having my favourite pecan pie - fantastic. Cheesecake and ice-cream were also great and overall we had a great experience which means we will return as soon as we get an opportunity.

Have been to this restaurant on a number of occasions and they never disappoint. Pre-theatre menu is excellent value with 3 courses for €24. On this occasion I had the beetroot and goats cheese salad for starters and the duck for my main, absolutely delicious cooked to perfection and decent sized portions. Place is always busy so I would advise making a reservation first, especially at weekends. Service is great too our waiter was extremely helpful. My only complaint would be to see the pre-theatre menu extended a bit longer even just on the week days as you have to leave at 7.45 and can sometimes feel a little rushed. The pre-theatre menu is fantastic but the a la carte menu can be quite pricey so if your on a budget stick to the pre theatre menu! Will definitely come back again.

Went for the pre theatre. Excellent service and excellent food. We were supposed to be gone by 19:45, but we left at 20:00 and we were not rushed out. Paté and deep fried brie for starters and duck and chicked for mains. Really tasty, and I would definitely recommend this place. It 's great value too!

Had an early bird dinner here with my wife on New Years Eve, first ever visit. Got the last walk-in table which was near a door but also near a nice open fire. We were delighted to get it on such a busy night and staff were very gracious saying they'd understand if we weren't interested. Atmosphere was amazing on a winters night and the place was buzzing. Loved the old style, big bar, fire and little table lamps. Service was generally very good, if a little slow. This was fine as we were looking for a laid back evening with nice breaks between courses. However, when we had finished our desserts and after-dinner drinks we had to wait a VERY long time to get the bill and then had to wait again to pay using the credit card machine. They were busy but i think it was more to do with our particular waiter forgetting about us. Food was good, hearty and well made, though not amazing by any stretch. We got the pre-theatre menu which made it very good value. All in all we would definitely go back, just not if we were in a rush!!

I absolutely love this place. The atmosphere was buzzing and the food was excellent. I had the crab pot to start and the monkfish for main, which was sensational. Finished off with the pistachio ice-cream and all washed down with a lovely red wine. The service was also brilliant with friendly staff,.

Great restaurant to visit at anytime of the day. Super service with very efficient staff. This restuarant is always busy so they must be doing something write. A friend of mine said the early bird is excellent value, will check it out after christmas when the restaurant is quieter, great spot.

Visited here for the first time last Saturday night. We were very surprised to get a table as the restaurant was very busy. However we were delighted when a table was found for us. The restaurant has a great atmosphere, great staff and lovely food although a little on the expensive side, next time I hope to try the early bird. Give it a try.

What can I say consistently one of the best restaurants in Dublin, delicous food and outstanding service. Can feel a little cramped sometimes and the al a carte can be a little price but it still doesnt take away from how good the Troc is. The Pre-Theatre Menu (Early Bird) is fantasic value and great food. I recommend the Butternut Squash Soup and the sliced Duck Breast. Cant recoomend this Restaurant enough. Go, Try, Enjoy!

Oh holy....there just aren't words to describe how unbelievably delicious the food here is!! I couldn't decide between the Brie and the Pate so I got both (don't judge me, the kind waitress didn't) and still I couldn't decide which I prefer. Had the duck for mains which was just perfect. The surroundings are fabulous. I've been here with friends, with family, and on a date and I can't recommend it enough. There's a reason why this restaurant is always full.

Four of us had a fantastic evening at the Trocadero last Friday. This was our second visit there but the others had travelled from Kildare and it was a new experience! As is usual, it was very busy but our welcome was friendly and efficient, our booth was central and in a busy area but it was fun to people-watch as we enjoyed the great food and wine. The two men had fillet steaks, both cooked to perfection, we two ladies had fish - I had halibut which was melt in the mouth and she had sole on the bone which was the hit of the evening - large, succulent and perfectly pan-fried. Vegetables sides were plentiful and delicious. Wines were excellent. Only slight disappointment was with the dessert choice which we found mundane and lacking imagination and presentation.

Great pre theatre menu which is great value at €24 for three courses. You do feel like youre in a fine dining restaurant with an affordable meal and there is no rush to turn around the table either.....we arrived at seven on a Friday night and didn't leave until 10. The last time I was here with my sisters the President was dining with her family so it really is a good choice! Would definitely recommend it.....

Hands down my favourite restaurant in Dublin. From the moment you enter the restaurant the service is flawless. I've eaten here many times and tried most things on the menu and i can't fault anything. Best steak in Dublin and they do a really good early bird menu. I highly reccommend this this place for a special night out

It was my brother's birthday and 12 of us met up here. The host is great at making everyone feel very welcome. The food and wine was very good and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The only problem is that if you get seated down the back it feels a bit claustrophobic. We asked a few times that the air condition be turned higher but I don't think anyone knew how to use it properly. Still a great night, we will return.

First time in this restaurant and I'll definitely back. For a Monday night the place had a great buzz and it was really. I love the red velvet seating and balck and white photograph adorned walls. Service and food was excellent. I had the best monkfish ever - really tasty. Can't wait to go back.

My partner and myself dropped into Trocadero on the off chance on Saturday evening as we hadn't booked anything. They found us a table straight away. This was our first visit. We were both very impressed with both the prompt and friendly service and the warm and cosy decor. We both ordered from the pre-theatre menu which was good value at €25 for three courses. The food was good without being anything special but overall we both really enjoyed the evening. Lovely restaurant, excellent service, food could do with a bit of improvment. Saying that we'll be back.

We arrived in as a party of 8 on a Tuesday night. The restaurant was very busy and we were shown to our table which was prebooked on arrival. The service was excellent and waiters very attentive. I had the brie to start which was fantastic and the steak. Both courses were very tasty and the steak cooked perfectly. All others at the meal enjoyed what they had and the bill including wine came to €800.00. The only downside was the very slow music being played which did not suit the atmosphere and surroundings of the restaurant.

Back to trocadero again with 2 other girl friends. Another lovely experience, warm and friendly atmosphere as per usual. I had fillet steak this time, which is the most expensive, (luck me - it was a freebie dinner), but not so luck after all as It did not actually taste as exquisite as its price... not what I expected from a 33 euro dish. Anyhow, I will just remember not to have it next time im back to trocs... can't wait for another lovely meal in what seems to be my favourite so far!

A friend and I recently visited the Trocadero for the pre-theatre menu. As I have visited the Trocadero on numerous occasions, I heartily recommended the venue to my friend as she was a first timer. Ultimately I was very disappointed with the quality of the food served, mainly my main course. I opted for duck, cooked medium well. I was presented with a luke warm duck breast cooked very well done. It must have been sitting under lamps for some time as the fat on the breast had even started to solidify as it does with lamb. This was accompanied by 4 minute sized roast potatoes that also have the feeling that they had been lying around for some time. The most enjoyable part of the main was the cabbage cooked with fennell and my friend and I both agreed that we were still hungry after the meal. The service was fantastic as usual, but overall the pre theatre menu very much lets down the fine reputation of the Trocadero. I would not recommend onward and will certainly not visit any time in the future. At a time in Dublin where restaurants are stepping up their game to gain footfall and customer confidence, this pre theatre option falls very short.

I go to Trocadero occasionally with work colleagues. I find the decor, in general, to be too heavy and gaudy. We always go for the pre-theatre menu because the main dinner menu is far too expensive. The food tends to be good, but they are rather lacking on vegetarian selections (for example the last time we went, there were no vegetarian main courses on the pre-theare menu, so I had to ask them if I could substitute one from the main menu). That being said, the service is always good. They are accommodating and friendly.

Staff and service was very good, as was the food but i'm not quite sure that it's worth the price. Have had just as good food in cheaper restaurants, but the atmosphere is nice and it's a good night out..

I treated a friend to a "pre theatre " menu on Wednesday February 16th. I love the charm of this comfortable restaurant where it is possible to have a good chat due to the separation of tables. We were welcomed warmly and served with genuine care and attention. We both chose the goat's cheese and beetroot for a starter and also both scose the chicken main. Both were delicious. The chicken was tender and tasty. Deserts were Pecan Pie and a small creme brulee. We finished off with a coffee and green tea. I must say that the pre theatre menu at 25 euros with no hidden charges is very good value and certainly satisfied myself and my friend.

Was taken here for a meal with a friend who was visiting town and had pre-booked. We arrived at about 6:30pm. Great buzz in the place which was already almost full - staff were friendly. Opted to skip starters and had the cannelloni with a side order of mushy peas! My friend had the halibut with a side order of vegetables. For dessert I had the cheesecake with ice cream. It was a pleasant enough experience though my cannelloni was 'grilled' to the plate and looked as though it had been re-heated. So I suspect that not all dishes are 'fresh' from the kitchen. No idea what the bill came to but guess it's fairly standard.

Had an early sunday dinner here a few weeks ago. Was an unusual experience.Very old worldly but nice. Not the type of place we would normally go as a much older clientle but a nice night out. Very experienced staff with a very old style menu. My GF had the Sea Bass while I had the Duck. Both great dishes. Well cooked and simple on the plate. Very tasty classic food which was very easy to eat. Nice atmosphere with a "1930's American dinner/show" feel to it which was nice. Would reccommend going there and will be on our list to go back eventually.

Heard that this restaurant had a good name so said id give it a try for a early bird.....big mistake! Firstly were made to stand at the bar for 15 mins as our table was not ready. Asked for two glasses of white wine and was not even offered a choice. Starters were nice in fairness but ordered the duck x 2 and it came out tough as leather and half cooked. Ordered 3 early birds and a normal main course and got one bowl of soggy cabbage and 6 small roast potatoes between us as a side. A good name only gets you so far but if the food is bed you cant hind behind a name. If you are looking for a nice meal then maybe look elsewhere!

Extremely disappointing visit! Went to Trocadero with some family members for the pre-theatre menu of 25euro pp. Firstly we were seated at the top of the restaurant with the door constantly opening and pouring a freezing wind onto my grandmother. It took 20 minutes for us to even be given a menu, and even longer for our order to be taken. The staff in the restaurant seem to be always so pre-occupied with how busy the restaurant is that they seem to forget about the people sitting at the tables! I was very unhappy to find 7 seperate pieces of bone in my seabass that I had for my main! I think that is extremely poor for restaurant standards. We had to again ask for our dessert order to be taken and when it hadn't arrived another 20 mins later we had to press the maitre'd for it as we had tickets to a show. He shouted after us on our way out the door to come back and have coffee after the show! May I suggest improving the service instead of offering coffees after the show when we wanted them after our meal! Will not be returning...and it's a shame because the restaurant used to be head and shoulders above the rest.

Visited Trocadero again early on Monday as was going to a show in the Olympia. I still think this place is so overrated and was only going back again because one of our party was treating us and just loves the monkfish here. There was six of us so we had various starters, I had the lobstor pot and was very disappointed. The consistency of the sauce was so watery, others had the goats cheese which they did enjoy. For mains of course 4 of us had the monk fish, which I must say is delicious but very expensive as it just comes with chips/potatoes, if you want veg that is all extra. Three of our party had pecan pie for desert which was very nice. The service in this establishment is very hit and miss, you either wait ages in between courses or they are hovering over the table waiting to take your plates. The toilets still need a good painting and a extra good clean, the place is just not worth it especially for the price one pays for the food.

I went here with my family for my mum's birthday, first impressions of the décor was quite dated although the overall feel of the restaurant was quite cosy. 3 of us had the crabpot which was realy nice, 1 had the goatscheese and beetroot and 1 had the chicken liver pate, which he said was fairly ordinary. For mains 2 of us had the monkfish which was delicious, 2 had the lamb and 1 had the halibut. Considering the price of the mains they left alot to be desired. Mains came with a side of potatoes but no other vegetables or accompaniments on the plate. The lamb came on its own with a small portion of gravy and did not look very impressive. Overall the food was good, although I would say overpriced in comparsion to other restaurants. The service was very slow, we had to ask to see a dessert menu and were left waiting for our bill. The maitre d' knew it was my mum's birthday so gave us complimentary shots after our meal which was a nice touch. I don't think this restaurant gives value for money and I think it is more suited to an older clientele.

I took my boyfriend here for his birthday recently.I had been several times but it was his first visit so expectations were high. We arrived to a very full restaurant bang on time for our booking. We were greeted warmly & asked to wait at reception while the manager went to check on the table. He came back & told the receptionist not to send us to the bar as our table was ready. It was 35 minutes later before we were seated & another 30 minutes before our starters were served. That set the tone for the evening as service was incredibly slow. Bf had fried brie & I had the crab pot to start. Brie was ok- he said he's had better.. Crab pot was delicious. We both had steak (fillet for him, tbone for me) They were very good. I chose champ for my potato side- disappointing as what arrived was a dish of mash with about 5 pieces of scallion on top.Our chosen wine wasn't available & neither was my dessert. We shared profiteroles which were delicious I had a Baileys coffee & himself had espresso. Bill was just over €130. Not too painful. When I asked my bf if he'd return he was very hesitant saying that the slow service was off-putting.

I arrived here without a reservation and was promptly seated in lovely table. The service I experienced was friendly, warm and smiling. In addition the food was served both promptly and efficiently. For starters I had deep fried brie which was beautiful. My companion declined starters and opted for desert instead. For mains my companion chose a fillet steak as did I.I must say it was one of the best cooked and tastiest steaks that I have had in a very long time. For desert my companion chose a cheesecake myself opting for a chocolate cake. The atmosphere is great here with a very mixed bag of patrons which further enhances ones dining experience. In addition everybody is made to feel special here. I would highly recommend a visit to this centrally located eatery you will really enjoy it.

Came across the Trocadero before going on to see Santana in the O2. Pre theatre menu for €25 looked good so we went in. We mentioned my wife was gluten intolerant (coeliac) and they were fine. The waiter went through the menu with us and didnt need to check any of the recipes. He was excellent, really knew his stuff and was even able to recommend gluten free desserts. We were sceptical but he was spot on. We had a very enjoyable 3 course meal which really was excellent.

I went to the Trocadero for the first time last Friday evening. It was lovely, and had a great atmosphere with really friendly staff. The food was really fresh and not overly complicated, it was very tasty. The service was great but very relaxed, it was lovely to relax and enjoy a slow dinner but not a place to go if you are in a hurry. I look forward to going back.

Somehow I had never been to this institution before now, but wish I had ! Very warm friendly service, nice atmosphere and great food. We weren't impressed with the early bird, so went a la carte. It's tad pricey, and I was a bit disappointed that we were rushed to make room for the next set of dinners. Having said that, the food, service and atmosphere made up for it. Asparagus to start (yum). Monkfish for the main was super, definitely recommend it, and it did include a side of potatoes (nice champ, not too creamy), but we also ordered mushy peas .. good comfort food. Wasn't cheap, but I would return .. and hopefully this time manage to nab a table for the night!

Met a couple of friends for dinner and availed of the reasonably priced early bird menu. A very nice waiter showed us to our seat. The décor is nice and the seats are very comfy. I thought the early bird menu had good choice and I went for the pâté to start which was very tasty, I ordered the wild mushroom risotto for main which I found quite chalky and bland, my friend had the sea bass, it was full of bones. For dessert there was only two choices for the early bird menu, profiteroles and strawberry crumble, went for the crumble and it was very tasty. 25Euro for three courses is good value just wish the main courses had been better. Won’t be rushing back but may give it a second chance at some point.

Ate there last night with a bunch of friends. We had the pre-theatre menu. Fantastic value and a great selection of food on the menu. Everyone found dishes to their taste. Service was excellent and friendly. Food was delicious and beautifully presented. And the best part was the price! Great venue, great service and excellent value. I will be eating here again very soon.

What a place, I would highly recommend this. Atmosphere is really nice, very nice setting, Food is 10/10 YUM YUM. The staff are really nice and friendly, could not do enough to facilitate you and they dont rush you like some restaurants.. you could stay here for the night!!! I went with my mother and sister and we had a really enjoyable night. The only downfall was the restaurant was really hot!!! but this wouldnt be a complaint on a winters night!! Just go and try this restaurant. its a place you wont forget

A let down- very cramped and quiet claustrophobic because it's painted such a dark red. We went as part of a work group and the starter's were very slow to come out, so much so that we weren't able to have tea and coffee as we had gone for the early bird and they needed to get us out for the next group. The food was not amazing considering what good value is now available elsewhere- I will not be going back any time soon which is a pity as it was on my list of places to try.

Love love love the Troc- have been coming for years. It's as much about the atmosphere in this Dublin institution as it is about the food. Robert is a fantastic man who can sort everything & everyone and adds to the evening in so many ways. Its hard to say no to those after dinner shots but I wish I had the next day!! Long live the Troc.

Well I've been coming to Trocadero for years now and absolutely love it! On this occasion I was at a wedding meal of about 28 people. As usual, Robert dealt with everything totally professionally while being friendly too. I had the Brie for starter followed my the sea bass, both absolutely excellent. The veg and potatoes are always plentiful and very tasty. And the portion size for the sea bass was great....as it was a set menu you sometimes expect a little smaller portions but it was very substantial. I've never had an occasion to complain in Trocadero, I think the atmosphere, the food and the value for money are all excellent. It's the perfect place for a group dinner, a date or a more casual early evening meal.....and you just cannot beat their fillet steak!!

Booked the Trocadero in the hope that it would like up to the hype of a really quality restaurant for special. I can say that it pass that test with flying colours. The service is excellent and the food & drink really is top notch (I really really recommend the fillet steak coupled with a bottle of the Australian Red). I wouldn't go to Trocadero on a regular basis because of the cost but it will certainly be top of my list when looking to celebrate a special occasion or for a very romatic meal.

Had heard a lot of v positive comments re Trocadero so decided to take a friend as a treat. The service was v poor, even on entry we had to approach staff rather than the other way around. Getting staffs attention in general was difficult and the seating was cramped. I had the mushroom risotto as main and for the price, the portion size was tiny! Would not visit again.

We had dinner here on Valentines night and enjoyed the experience. The restaurant was packed and they is a great atmosphere, very romantic despite how bust it was.Thought the tables are very close together in places. We were on a tight budget so we ordered from the pre-theatre menu, where u must vacate your table by 7.45, which was fine. The food was good but not great.I had the goats cheese starter with beetroot which was nice but not the best Ive had.The biggest problem was the fact that it was barely warm.My companion had the deep-fried brie served with plenty of raspberry coulis but no salad! We both had the mushroom risotto which was very cheesy, creamy and not too mushroomy. We both also had profitto roles which were one of the best Ive tasted. The cheapest white wine on the menu was delicious. The service was very slow, which left us a little worried about being off our table by 7.45.We pre-theatre menu was good value for money but hopefully they will have more then one vegetarian main course on the menu soon.Overall the food and sevice play second fiddle to the atmosphere, glamour and history of the place.

Myself and my partner came here for dinner last night - Valentine's night - and we were both very impressed with the way that the staff handled the pressures that come with this night of the year. There was plenty of space so, mercifully, we weren't cramped in the middle of other adoring couples! The staff, although clearly very busy, managed to combine efficiency with friendliness. The atmosphere was therefore very pleasant and this was very much helped by the fact that the charming maitre d' gave us our choice of table. We kicked off the evening in style with two glasses of chilled prosecco. The food was very good. I had goat's cheese with beetroot to start. The cheese was delicious - lightly grilled and very creamy - but they could have gone easier on the salad which swamped the plate. I'm not usually a fan of beetroot but this was an exception; it was warm and very fresh. For main course I had the most tangily delicious sticky monkfish. This was really flavoursome without being cloying. The portion-size was just right as monkfish is wonderfulyl meaty and it came served with a hot baked potato. We ordered roasted vegetables on the side and these were tender and mouthwatering - roasted in olive oil - and, crucially, they weren't over cooked. My partner was very impressed with his steak - cooked to perfection. We skipped desert and instead finished off what was now our second bottle of red wine; a very drinkable merlot. We'd been there over two hours at this stage. To have such an easy and relaxed experience on Valentine's night says a lot about the quality of the Troc. The only unsavoury moment of the evening came with the bill: we were charged 7.50 for each Prosecco although the menu clearly had them prcied at 6 euro. We didn't bother quibbling over it given the night that was in it. Overall, a top-class evening all round.

Sevice and Food were excellent, great value for money on the pre theatre menu. Atmosphere seem cheesy and dark. Courtesy at the door was very cold, my partner and I were leaving the restaurant after a lovely meal and we both politely said thank you and goodbye, the two ladies that were at the front door reception completely ignored our gesture, we left with a bad after taste.

I had not been to this place in a while and it really is a nice restaurant. However I was a bit disappointed because I had been looking at the menu online and it didn't match the menu we were presented with. It would be nice if they had a bigger variety of Vegetarian options. However, we had a lovely meal, started with the butternut squash soup with is lovely. The staff were very friendly and the meal worked out to be very reasonable, I will definitely be going back here, it's a nice meal out and gives you the opportunity to dress up a bit

I last ate here just before Christmas but I have been numerous times before. It is a funny restaurant in a bit of a time wrap - the food and waiters seem from a different era. While I can definitely say it is a Dublin institution I could not 100% recommend it. The choice on the menu is tired and could do with a bit of tlc!

I went here on a Saturday night with a group of people so a wide variety of dishes were ordered. Unfortunately we were squashed on to a table meant for far less people than were in our group so there was a lot of elbow bashing going on. It was my first time there but I think we were seated in a bar area so it was a little uncomfortable having people standing up around us. It would have been better if they'd told us when booking that they couldn't accommodate us so we could have gone elsewhere. Anyway, on to the food. Mostly everyone enjoyed there food, however the roast beetroot & goats cheese didn't appear to have been fully cooked. The pesto linguine was ok but a little bland so not a great veggie option. We'd brought in a birthday cake (agreed in advance) and it was served with a great rendition of Happy Birthday but I was a little surprised to see that after we'd been served the cake, the people next to us were served slices of OUR cake for somebody elses birthday at that table!!

Ate here during the week with some friends - have to say, the early bird of €25 was fantastic! I had the deep fried brie to start, mouthwatering, some others had the pate and loved it. I had the chicken for main and have to say it was the most delicious chicken I have EVER tasted - definately hats off to the chef! Some others had the sea bass and the smell from this was amazing. All mains served with salad or gorgeous carrot and parsnip and creamed cabbage - all very tasty. The only gripe I would have was no choice of dessert... we were just given profiteroles, even though very nice - a choice would have been good. Service as always was excellent and as I said, the early bird (or Pre-Theatre) menu is great value... will be back. GREAT CHICKEN!

Trocadero last night. Fancied a steak. Was excellent. It was quiet enough - what with the mass exdudos from town because of the snow and ice. Chips served with it were delish - dipped in the pepper sauce, heaven!

Went for a pre-theatre meal in Trocadero before a trip to the opera in the Gaiety. We got a very comfortable booth by the kitchen door. Our waitress was efficient and pleasant. The food was great. I started with chicken liver pate and followed with duck breast. We had the ‘only’ desert on the pre-theatre menu – a chocolate affair. As I left I realised I’d left my programme on the table by accident. Without even being asked the manager darted across the restaurant and retrieved it for me. It’s this charm and friendliness that makes Trocadero a really special place. Highly recommended.

Went here for an office night out for the pre-theatre menu. The place was packed and full of life. Have been here a few times before and always leave impressed. The pre-theatre menu has a good range of options. I went for the goats cheese and beetroot salad and sea bass for mains. Both were excellent. And the profiteroles for dessert were delicious! Out of 12 people, all were extremely satisfied.. Will definitely be back!

Had a late table booked and the atmosphere was fantastic. It may as well have been 7 o'clock in the evening. The place was buzzing. The staff were extremely friendly. Was disappointed not to bump into a celeb or two on the night. The food was fabulous. They even put a cheese board together even though it was not on the menu. It was also very nice with the wine we had ordered. Overall I would love to go back. It is very expensive but I think this time of the year you are not only paying for good food but you are paying for a festive fun night out.

Was here with a client of ours, and the place has a great buzz and feel to it. I was a bit disappointed with the service and the time it took for the food to come out, especially waiting 25 mins between starter and main course. The food itself was great. I had butternut squash soup for starters, it was light and tasty. The fillet steak was cooked exactly like I wanted it and full of flavour. Would go again if the service improved a bit

We were here with my parents - loved it - the early bird was only €25 and it was great. The atmosphere has to be the best in Dublin - you feel like you are in a hollywood restaurant. The staff was so friendly - they even rang me and said as it was raining to come early and have a drink at the bar - while waited for our table. They cater very well for ceoliacs as well.

The four of us dined at this restaurant which is one of my old favourites for a delicious steak and beetroot salad :) Trocadero is not and average priced restaurant, but if you have the money to spend then this is the place to dine. I have tried almost everything on their menu throughout the times I've been coming here and have never been disappointed. The only discomfort that i have is their seating. The booths are small and awkward to sit in. Nevertheless, the delicious food makes up for that.

Went in with a large group after my girlfriends graduation and was delighted. There was a shirt wait for our tabl but once we were seated we were served very quickly. The food was fantastic if a little expensive. As there were 8 of us we were givin a huge selection of potatoes and other veg, which was also delicious. All in all a cosy place with great food.

The restaurant has a good atmosphere and good food. However, there are no special touches, its quite average in terms of presentation, staff and service. I enjoy the food but for the prices they charge I expect a little extra and trocadero does not offer this.

Always wanted to visit this restaurant but now that I have done I won't be returning. The restaurant itself is lovely and cosy. Staff very friendly. But I was so disappoionted with the food. We went with the early bird menu. For starters I had brie.. So bland.. no salad with it and was only lukewarm. Main course I had seabass with veg. The carrots looked like they were just picked from the ground.. didn't look clean and the potatoes were so dry, no butter. Seabass was ok.. I could have done better at home. Then for dessert, we weren't even asked if we wanted dessert. It was just handed to us which was a chocolate mouse which was so heavy, most of us didn't eat it. No-one asked us would we like tea/coffee etc. This restaurant has a lot of regulars but for me it was thumbs down and won't be on my list for returning.

Arrived without a booking and was seated straighted away. Ordered Garlic Prawns to start, when they arrived I couldn't believe what in front of me ...in my opinion frozen prawns that were over cooked and there was even some vains left in them. My girlfriend had pate to start which was average to say the least. For the main meal I had sole which was nice but ridicously over priced. My girlfriend had scallops which were fine but again over priced. On a positive note the waitress serving us was extremely nice and made us feel relaxed. The food here is extremely over priced, unimaginative and and out right rip off. I have better meals in the city centre for half the price.

Arrived to Trocadero about 15 minutes prior to our allotted time and we were asked to go to the Bar for a drink. We had no problem with this and headed to the bar. The whole place was packed to the gills and the staff looked very busy. Myself and T had a drink at the Bar and as the clock past 8pm and then 8.15pm I began to get a little concerned that the staff had forgotten that we were there. I spoke with the Bar-tender at 8.30pm who told me they were waiting for people to clear out so we could be seated. I stressed we had already waited for 30 minutes after out allotted time. He spoke with the Manager (I think) and within 5 minutes we were seated. From that point on our evening was lovely. T had the Brie for Starters and I had the Garlic Prawns, both were very good and the Prawns really Garlicy which I loved. For Mains, T had the sticky Monkfish which was fine and I had the 14oz T-Bone Steak which was cooked perfectly and was very flavourful. T asked the waiter if they Kitchen could do some Galric Potatoes with the Main and some lovely sauteéd new spuds arrived which were cooked with some garlic and herbs (gorgeous). We shared a heated chocolate fudge cake for desert, which was also lovely. Overall, we had a lovely night and the waiter at our table was very pleasant and friendly. The wait (and the feeling of being ignored) took a little of the gloss off the evening. Was just over €100 for the above plus a half-bottle of white wine. Would still eat here again, but will make sure the wait in the Bar wont be as long.

This was my first trip here and I was so impressed. We went for the early bird €25 per person. The selection was great and the portions were very good without being over indulgent. The waitress we had was possibly the best waitress I have ever had. She was attentive without being pushy and very helpful. I will be back very soon and I have recommended the place to a lot of friends. 5 stars.

Beautifully decorated restaurant. I love this place for its style and charm. The walls are covered in photo's of Irish theatre actors and legends. Its the perfect place to go for a pre-theatre meal. The rich decor provides a buzzing and luxurious atmosphere. The food was excellent and the cocktails were beautiful. It was my third time at this restaurant and I will definitely be going back again, its one of my favourite places in Dublin to enjoy a great evening out.

place has very nice old style interior. service in Trocadero is brilliant. no rush, just chill out and enjoy food and wine - that's the feeling about that place. in addition to good quality of food and nice wine selection is worth recommendations.

this place is old school, but it works! You can chill at the bar (full bar) before your meal while perusing the menu which is straightforward and uncomplicated. Winelist is good and we were happy with our choices. We had a selection of starters and for mains we had seabass, monkfish, scallops and steak - all were top notch. Service was extremely good - possibly the best I have had in any restaurant in Ireland

This place is stuck in a time warp, if you were wealty in the 80's Id say this was the trendiest haunt to be seen in but I doubt they have changed there menu or food presentation since. I had a watery Pate with cheap white bread toast to start one friend had some over cooked stringy asparagus. I went for the extra expensive escalops served with notting but a leaf of cabbage for mains. We were group so we ordered sides to share, half of them didnt arrive and the ones that did were cold. Fruit crumble for desert was lacking the crumble. Then without asking, the bill was placed on our table. Honestly I dont know how this place is pulling in the crowd, though I must admit there was a good atmosphere and the dinning room is cosy, but a serious rip off that I will not return for.

I had a fantastic night here on Friday, I usually go for the Early Bird with my mum after work, but this time was in with my boyfriend for a la carte. We arrived a little early from the IFI so we waited in the bar, which was a great excuse to have a Gin and Tonic before dinner - the barman didn't seem to mind when I asked for a slice of lime, it is my pet hate when there is lemon inG&T)!! We had a deep fried brie (which was sort of cheating, I know it is my favourite) and a garlic prawns on toast, as starters and shared them! The garlic prawns are particularly good too though, and really garlicky. I had the monkfish which I hadn't tried before and it was fantastic, just the right hit of saltiness in the sticky sauce, the portion was quite big, but it was too nice to leave any! I was assured that the steak was great too, but I had to take his word for it, not a red meat eater - but the pepper sauce was delicious with some stolen chips! We had Irish coffees instead of dessert, I usually prefer them a bit sweeter, but they were still really good and hot. The house white wine was really nice, and the glasses are very generous! There was a really big group in and the place had a great atmosphere, but it didn't have that crowded or rushed feel that other places get when they are full. Our waitress was really pleasant and seemed to have lots of time for us, which was nice, and she even offered to put my bag of books away with my jacket. I'm definitly going to try to go back on a Friday night with my mum for her birthday, we love the pre theatre but it just feels really glamorous later on.

I ate here with two friends Friday night for the first time. I called to book but no table available untin 10pm. I'm not sure what the attraction is although perhaps earlier in the evening it may have been better. We waited over 30 mins to place our order and were completely ignored up to that. Our waiter was a very nice professional gentleman and the food was good (I had the beetroot and goats cheese salad followed by the organic chicken) but I wouldn't really rush back. It's fairly expensive most dishes near €30 but that may be to attract a more mature crowd. I thought the decor lacked imagination and there was little atmosphere but my two friends were a bit more impressed

What a delightful experience. A friend celebrated a significant birthday in the Trocadero last night and boy were we her guests glad she choose it as the venue. In elegant, stylish surroundings we wined and dined the night away. I started with the most delectable prawns, followed by lip-smackingly tasty panfried sticky monkfish and finished off with a mouth-watering creme brule. Can't speak on behalf of the other 26 guests who were there but between the staff, service and food it ticked all the right boxes for me.

Fab atmosphere and decor, but food was only okay, i woudn't pay full price for it, but for an early bird it was fine......as other reviewers have pointed out the staff here are not very friendly! Plates tends to be thrown down in front of you and its very hard to get your waiters attention. A smile or two definitely wouldnt go astray!

Keep well away from this excuse of a restaurant if you are looking for any sort of professional service. Never seen a place to be so Badly run in my life . Absolutely terrible service from the moment we entered. The staff here really need a few classes in cutomer service, aswell a smile would certainly would not go astray.Would never return very very disappointed in this place.

Went here with the girlfriend for early bird menu for my birthday.. Decor is so unique and old school. I ordered for starter the beetroot with grilled goats cheese - this is without doubt my most memorable starter i have had in years - amazing! For the main i had duck which was quite disappointing especially since i see if ordering it a la carte it is 28euro! Service is excellent with the atmosphere quite good. Overall had a really pleasent visit would defenitely go back!

I was brought here for my birthday and I really enjoyed it. The early bird menu was good and the atmosphere was nice, the decor is something apart. I found it a little pretentious here though. I would come back though and I think it would be nicer to sit towards the back of the restaurant, we sat near the door and it felt like we were in a corridor.

Had a lovely meal with my husband at this restaurant recently. We've been a few times before and have always found staff to be most courteous and friendly. I love the food here as it always hits the right spot, my favourite is the beetroot and goats cheese starter followed by sticky monkfish, a real winner. They do a wonderful early bird (starter, main course AND dessert) for €25, in my opinion the Trocadero ticks all the right boxes and is the best value in Dublin. ... If you want nice food, great atmosphere, great service then you can't go wrong with the Trocadero, Full marks

I'll admit I was very excited to return here after such a great night the last time but I will never set foot into this place again..I've never been so livid in all my life at the service in here. I basically walked out in the end. Waiter was rude and patronising to the highest level. Manager wasn't much better. It was almost like we were being shoved out ! They were busy yes, but there was no need to rush us so much ! Not even the option to order afters...just handed a dessert to SHARE !! (WHAT??)....I couldn't have left sooner but I did enjoy my starter and the chicken (main) was nice but not great. I spent my entire night talking about the service (or lack of). Gone down hill BIG TIME...save your money. Seriously.

Went here with family for a special occasion. Some of the family had been here before for my sister's graduation and loved it. However, after this visit we will not be returning. When we first arrived there was no one there to greet us. 3 waiters passed us by, but nothing. Finally the manager came to seat us and when we told him that we had booked for 6 but there was now 7 of us (the extra was only a small child), he made a huge deal about it and said it was a huge problem. We finally were seated into a squashed booth and ordered. The waiter was rude the entire time. Both he and the manager were nice to our surrounding tables but not to us.It really seemed like they couldn't get rid of us faster. Then after our main course the waiter came back and threw down 4 plates of profiteroles on the table and told us to share. We were confused as we hadn't ordered dessert yet, but when my dad inquired he was told that they had put our order through as early bird as it would be cheaper for us. We were completely disgusted as they obviously thought we couldn't afford it.It was only when my dad gave a generous tip that the waiter changed his mood and was all smiles! DON'T GO HERE!

Ate here some weeks ago with some friends and while it was a nice experience i dont think I would come back again. I had the Salmon for starter which was ok but nothing special - I have had nicer. Some of my friends had the Brie which they said the sauce over powered the dish while another had the roast beetroot which she said it was lovely - Most of us had the steak for main and while it was tasty we thought it was a bit expensive.. Also for the duration of our visit the staff must have sang happy birthday about 15 times which to be honest did get quite irritating after a while.. 15 times come on.. But all in all thought it was a nice venue and you can stay and relax - your not been rushed out the door but was nice but would put this one down to been a bit on the pricy side - Recession and all that..

This was my second visit to this restaurant and certainly won't be my last. I went with 4 friends who were all first timers and they all loved it too, we went for the pre-theatre dinner menu which is 3 courses for €25. I think it is great value, I had the pate to start and the duck for main which were both delicious. The service is excellent, albeit a little slow at times, but I think it adds to the lovely relaxed atmosphere of the place. The decor is great, very traditional and cosy, perfect for a date! :)

I have visited here many times and I have to say this was a very disappointing one. We were left waiting for over 30 minutes. I found the service very select in their table manner (was very friendly to the neighbouring table - barely held a conversation with our table, gruffly put down food etc) the waitress who presented us the main however was great. We were left waiting an obscene amount of time for appertif. overall it was an extreme let down

I visited Trocadero for an early bird meal. We were shown to our table for two, and given our menus. We had to call the waiter to order drinks which were not delivered for at least 10 mins. We ordered our meal which was extremely bland, presentation was awful - a leaf of lettuce strewn on a plate with seabass and a baked potato. Our main course came practically straight after our starter was taken away. We were not offered a choice of deserts two desserts were just plonked down in front of us which we didnt even order. I was very dissapointed, the decor did not make up for bland food and bad service - I wont be back.

Ate here recently with my family after a few failed attempts. It was worth the wait. The service was excellent and the food was great. It is a little pricier then some of the other places in the area but the atmosphere and the food are worth it. Will Defo be back -just need to book well in advance!

I went here for the early bird and really enjoyed it. The selection was good and each dish was also available on the main menu. I had friend brie to start which was lovely, although the berry compote was a bit too sharp for my taste, and sea bass for main which was delicious. All my party enjoyed their food, would definitely go back

I visited Trocadero for the early bird menu with a friend who had been a few times in the past for dinner. the choice on the early bird is quite good, but the food is pretty old fashioned. I had the chicken pate to start, my friend had the fried bree. not up to much to be honest. the sea bass for main was nice, and my friend liked the chicken breast with meditteranean vegetables. their main courses come with green veg, baked potato and kind of unusually, chips! the chips didn't really go with any of the dishes on the menu (but I can't say no to chips so i did eat a fair few of them). the dessert of the day was profiteroles, which we didn't know until they landed in front of us. it was a nice meal, but more about a comfortable spot to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while rather than a night of fine dining. don't think i'd rush back any time soon, and there's no way I'd ever go a la carte at those prices. the other reviews are all spot on - it's about the atmosphere, not the food. But why not have both?

overpriced and average, but the look and atmosphere may up for it a bit and service is always good. i get dragged here everynow and then and as always it's just ok. i find the menu same o same, full of safe bets. again slighty overcooked steak, good size but could have been seasoned even a little. i guess for the choice and value available in other places, this place lags behind by years. just to see something different on the menu would be good, the days of pear and blue cheese are over, give it a little razzle dazzle, a pear and a lump of cheese on a plate, not of love gone into it, a 2 year old can serve that. guess i just should stop expecting more fom this place. but then again its been there for ever so they most do some things right,

What a fantastic place this is. The service is amazing, the staff can't do enough for you and even though we were with a large party the waiter remembered exactly who had ordered what and how the meat had been cooked for each order. Everybody was very friendly and the staff created a fantastic atmosphere. The food was also excellent, the prawn starter was to die for, the steak was perfect and the chocolate fudge cake was incredible. The whole evening represented great value for money and so I've given Trocadero full marks for everything and I'll definitely be going back.

Visited the Trocadero on Sat night & there were 9 ladies in our party. I had prawns in garlic to start & a fillet steak as a main, it was melt in the mouth the food was absolutly to die for. Our waiter couldn't have done enough for us the service was excellent. The atmosphere was really nice and relaxing and had a great buzz about the place. Cant wait to bring the hubbie back for a romatic evening soon.

I visited Trocadero last Friday. The veggie options were very poor, why do chefs think veggies only eat cheese. Our waitress was just amazing. She overheard my dissatisfaction and could not do enough to rectify the situation. Thanks to a fabulous waitress, she passed on my comments to the host, I will give the restaurant another try.

3 of us ate here for dinner on a Friday night recently. The atmosphere was great and the restaurant was completely full at 8pm, they were turning away customers. The food was ok, but slightly disappointing, I thought it was better on previous visits. The avocado that came with my starter was under-ripe and inedible. My main of turbot (I think) was good, but nothing special. Also disappointed to find they had no cheese boards for dessert. Service as always was excellent.

The service here is fantastic, however the food is absolutely disgusting. They don't seem to know what fresh food is. This is very poor value for money.

Went here with a group of friends and a few of us ordered the sea bass. We all knew from tasting that the fish was not fresh, so we gave it back and got the chicken instead. The staff were pleasant and apologetic about it and gave us a discount, but the chicken was only ok. Might have to give the Trocadero another shot some time

I visited here on saturday night with my girlfriend and we had a great time.It was our first time and after reading the reviews from other people i was looking forward to seeing what all the fuss was about. The service was brilliant with our waiter been very friendly and quick with our food which was excellent.I was also surprised when we got the bill as i thought it wasn't as expensive as some people made out.All in all we had a very nice experience and will definitely be going back.

Very disappointed with my visit to Trocadero, food was just ok, expensive for what we had. A nice atmosphere alright but that was about it. Won't be back.

I went here last night for the first time and was very excited as I had heard such good things about it. Have to say I was very dissappointed. The lady that served us was very abrupt, did not even ask did we want drinks, a couple of the plates on the table had stains on them and there was no salt/pepper on the table. The food was nice enough but I have had alot better in cheaper restaurants. The toilets were also in need of updating and cleaning. Overall I was dissappointed with my experience and will not be going back for another visit.

A great place to celebrate a birthday. For a Monday night the atmosphere was buzzy, staff as friendly as always and you just don't know what will happen when dining in the Troc. And that is the very reason that I love it! OK the food won't blow you away and unless you grab the early bird or all night Monday menu, it can seem expensive but this restaurant is so much more than the food! From Happy Birthday singing waiters, to the best host a restaurant can have, you really are guaranteed a special night. This restaurant is for people who love to chat, gossip and have a good time. This restaurant is not for the reserved! Shed the recession blues and enjoy an evening in the Troc!

What an atmosphere, I just love this place, my parents used to go on dates here in the 50s and still love to go back when in Dublin. Food is straightforward, definitely substantial and doesn't try too hard. Adore the older waiters who'd have you in stitches for the night. Always a favourite for special occasions!

Have to say I was quite disappointed by a long-awaited visit. Maybe I expected too much, but feel that these days you can find restaurants with equivalent atmosphere, better quality food, at lower prices, dotted around the city. Table and uncomfortable seats were set on a slant, food was good, without being particularly special, with meagre portions. Excellent waiters compensated for another curt member of staff.

We had the early bird, at €25 it's good value but was nothing special really. Nice overall but pretty standard food. In lovely surroundings, it's a safe bet for edible food, served quickly at a reasonable price..

Trocadero is my favourite place ever! Fab food, a great wine list and the friendliest, happy staff. There is a relaxing but lively atmosphere any day of the week in this unique restaurant. The interior is very plush with lots of red velvet and a genuine feeling of old world theatrical life. Prices are on the slightly higher scale but it is well worth it. I can't say enough about Trocadero!

I find the food here good but not exceptional. Good steak and breast of duck to name a couple. Also pricey for those of us seeking some value for money. But what it lacks in food and price it makes up for in atmosphere. Staff are outgoing and efficient. This place is always buzzing!

Went here for my boyfriends birthday. He was always going on about how much he would love to go hear and about all the great reviews he read so I decided to treat him. What can I say except amazing!!!!! Atmosphere is probably what makes this place that extra bit special. We had an early sitting on a relatively quiet Tuesday so there wasn't many people in but atmosphere was still brilliant. Waiter was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. Price was it wasn't anyway near what I was expecting - €150 per couple for 3 courses and some booze which I thought was very reasonable. Cant wait to go back and it would be sooner than later!

The Trocadero is legendary in Dublin. You're paying not for an especially brilliant meal, although the food has improved leaps and bounds in 5 years, but for the elegant, art deco, chic, Tiffany chandelier-lit atmosphere. Robert Doggett, the host with the most, is one of the most accommodating managers you'll find in town. He's a chef himself and can often be found working in the kitchen when needed. The food is fresh and full of flavor and their specialty, black sole, is delicate and falling off the bone. Although some of the waiters can admittedly be less than fawning, it's a small drawback to experience a place where every birthday gets a personal serenade of Happy Birthday, complimentary appertif and profiteroles. For a special occassion, it's romantic and warm; for a post-theatre bite, sit at the bar and have a light supper. They're amenable to late comers as well.

A large group of us came here for the Christmas lunch menu and I must say I couldn't fault it. The staff were very attentive and organised considering there were three tables of us, about 30 in total. I opted for the brie to star,t and the white truffle, spinach and cheese risotto for my main which was absolutely beautiful. The chocolate mousse for dessert was really light and I was very impressed overall. We didnt feel under any pressure to leave like other christmas lunches I've been at in the past and everyone had a great time.

I eat out here regularly and it never disappoints - would go for the atmosphere alone! Had our girly xmas dinner here last night and the food was lovely. We all tried something different from the menu and everyone really enjoyed the food - the goats cheese and beetroot salad to start was particularly good. Service was fantastic - waiter was attentive without being intrusive. Will definitely be back.

This is an old school institution. I have been a few times over the years and recently again and I like that I know what to expect. Fab service lively atmosphere like a club and good food that is not too fussy. The Maitre D has been there for years and is the hardest working man he just flies round the floor at weekend. We went on a night without a hop of a table and asked to have a drink at the bar. The lovely lasy at the door came up to us looking horrified after 45 minutes saying oh god did i forget you and we said no but if there was a table going we would love to stay and eat. She was fantastic and got us a table in 20 minutes and thanked us for being honest with her! Nice meal and relaxing old style decor..leather banquettes and a theatre crowd. Go on a special night and just enjoy. I love the steaks and my pal like the prawn starter.

Visited Trocedero for a family dinner and was very impressed. Although the restaurant was abolutely rammed and our table took a while appear we enjoyed a glass of prosecco at the art deco style bar while admiring the many famous theatrical photos on the wall. The food was fabulous, and so was the wine. The scallops I had were divine and my partners steak was cooked to perfection. This is a old-world style restaurant brimming with character and one of the best meals I have had out in Dublin in a long time. I will definitely be returning soon.

The atmosphere is quite warm and pleasant and service was professional. Food however is distinctly average. Menu does not appeal and lacks imagination. Salads extremely badly dressed. Duck was tough, monkfish appeared to be deepfried. Worse espresso I've had in some time. Would not go again. Dublin offers much better restaurants in this pricerange.

We went for the early bird special before a show; great atmosphere and we all felt that the early bird special was great value for money. There was a feeling of pressure to eat up and get out so that the table could be seated again however we refused to be rushed and the staff were always extremely pleasant and professional.

Had a great night here recently Food was overall, very good. People seemed very happy with the seafood in particular. You have to order all veg and potatoes as extras, which hikes the price up a lot. Good service. Very cosy place. Will go for the early bird next time.

We had a wonderful evening in this restaurant. Really liked the atmosphere, especially the red decor. The booths are very special. The food was excellent. I had the Crayfish salad and my partner had the deep fried brie. We both had the seabass, which was cooked to perfection. Also the waiters are only too willing to help you choose and they know the menu very well.

I think that Trocadero is a little overrated to be honest. Yes the food/service/decor are all good but I have been a couple of times now and I feel that I should be getting a little more for my money. The last time I ate here I ordered fillet steak. I had to send it back because it was a little overcooked but then when cooked right, it was perfection! Worth a visit but feel there are better restaurants in Dublin.

went here for 6 year anniversary with boyfriend on Friday night. had to wait 45 mins - 1 hour for table to be ready, as i booked 1 month in advance was bit surprised there was no table ready but it was grand having few drinks at the bar. Everyone in there tries to be posh drinking champagne!all actor types - great atmosphere!had garlic prawns to start with. was very off put by all the butter/grease on the plate-swimming in it and the bread was soggy with oil so not for the diet conscience! the main was gorgeous. had chicken and spinach and potatoes and other half had the steak.. all gorgeous! portions aren't too big and we had to ask for more sides. Shared raspberry and apple crumble for dessert - was fab! both had 4 drinks each and came to 115 euro - had been warned was very dear so was surprised! very reasonable - would defo go back!

Had the pre theatre with a group of 8 on a Friday night. The atmosphere was buzzing as the place was packed to capacity (turning people away). Fried Brie was delicious as a starter but the main course duck was disappointing - dried out and tasteless. The sea bass looked great, a generous portion. Would return to try it a second time but wasn't as impressed as I expected to be.

How refreshing! Finally got to the Troc and can see why its a favourite. While it may not win any culinary awards the food was good (but the veggies are extra...hate that!)..the halibut got a great response...but the warmth we received will certainly draw us back. A busy Thurs night but it had a nice, relaxed feel. It made a change to be allowed enjoy our meal and the chat and company of friends in pleasant surroundings with attentive but unobtrusive service and a chance to savour a course before being rushed to order the next!

Tocadero is a great restaurant, I went there with my family on a Tuesday night for the first time. We were made to feel very welcome and the restaurant was a buzzing. The waiting staff and the maitre de were extremely attentive, even as far as coming over to check if the music was too loud for my grandmother and turning it down on request. They also kindly accommodated the younger members of our group , halving a steak between them. As the adult portions would have been far too big for them. The food was excellent although I do hate paying for vegetables separately, as is the case here. Overall a flawless meal. Very coeliac friendly.

Went for dinner here with my partner after hearing much about it. I had the sea bass which was delicious and the portion size was very generous. My partner had the steak which didn't disappoint. The atmosphere in this restaurant is second to none and the service is friendly and efficient. We ended up drinking wine at our table until 2am which is unique to this restaurant.

Went for dinner on Saturday night with a group of friends, first time visit to the restaurant. Ordered strawberry and parma ham for starter and the rest of the group ordered pate and prawns, edible but have tasted better. Ordered lamb medium done, got a large rack but the quality of the lamb was not great and also had to order veg and potatoes as sides as these were not included in the main meal, not impressed with that. Service was good but the food let the restaurant down and the price was very expensive. Won't be going back in a hurry.

We had a birthday dinner here on Sat night for 7. The starter of deep fired brie was fantastic with the cranberry sauce. I enjoyed it very much, I was told that the prosciutto with strawberries and the pate was also very good. However there wasn't as much praise for the main courses. I personally had the halibut which I could not fault. It was perfectly cooked and utterly delicious with the mango and chilli salsa. But my companions were not overly impressed with the rack of lamb and the T-bone steaks. They were classed as average. We ordered many sides - which were on the whole tasty, but the fries were actually oven chips. This absolutely disgusted one of my party who was so horrified at this below standard side dish that she has vowed never to return. I think this really spoiled the meal. The waiters were all so lovely as was the maitre'd and the restaurant was buzzing with a wonderful atmosphere but the bill was over priced for the standard of the food not to mention the distinctly disgusting oven chips. I may return in several years when I forget the substandard food quality. The same cannot be said for my dining companions.

Five of us dined here last night we ate from the pre theatre menu which is excellent value if you want to dine midweek. All fairly basic dishes but my deep fried brie to start and my citrus chicken excellent, everyone else happy with mains of seabass, duck and cannelloni, noone had dessert as we all had plenty to eat. The staff all very friendly weren't rushed out will say it did take a while to get are bill. Will be back again.

The pre-theatre menu is handy as long as you arent in too much of a rush for the theatre! Despite saying you have to be out by 7:45 (and us saying we were going to a play at 8) we had to chase the waiter to make sure we were served. The food was nothing too amazing but the portions were a good size. Our waiter straight out told us not to order the soup of the day as none of the staff liked it (my father did and enjoyed it - parsnip isnt to everyone taste though!). On booking I had said it was my mothers birthday so the only person who got a dessert menu was her (the rest of us were in a bit of a rush but werent given the option!) and they sang for her which was nice ( I thought it might be a nice touch not to charge for that dessert though!). I wouldnt be in any rush back really, mainly as I felt the service wasnt that great. On pre-theatre you dont mind this too much but when you are forking out 30-40 for a main you do!

Well went to Trocadero on Tuesday night a Birthday treat from my lovely husband 2be! Overall very disappointing. Our Waiter was miles away, ordered the wine nearly got the cork in the face, ordered the starters got the main course first then the starter[HOT] which was suppose to be a cold liver pate. all in all we ended up having a dried out main course. We then ordered a sweet but the waiter had forgotten about us? Anyway another waiter came over and told us that sweet was gone and offered us a drink on the house for the delay. YES the place was busy but how can a restaurant of such high respect get it so wrong wont be going back Gordan Ramsay might Help it!!

After living in Dublin for over a year, I received a voucher for the reputed Trocadero and was anxious to try the pre-theatre menu. Although the staff are friendly and the atmosphere would appeal to even the most casual theatre fan, I’d have to close the curtain on the food. The starters and mains were disappointing and I wouldn’t give the dessert a standing ovation either, especially given the price. The place was packed with pretentious patrons who refuse to open their palettes to the new flavours of the city and instead regard Trocadero as fine dining. To put it bluntly, it’s not. The modern day menu is just riding the coattails of the ‘Troc’ of decades past when there were limited restaurant choices and smaller pocketbooks in Dublin.

Went here last night before going to the Gaiety and it was a let down. We didn't go for the pre-theatre option but chose from the a la carte. My starter of shallow fried prawns was meagre and tasteless. As for the sirloin steak at €27 it was all fat & gristle. The pan fried sticky monkfish wasn't to my dining partners taste either. To boot most of the desserts weren't available. Overrated (though it was a Tuesday) - won't be back.

Trocadero certainly lived up to its reputation in my eyes. I went here with 3 others on Thursday night and had the pre-theatre menu. The starters were fantastic and the main courses were even better. Because we were seated and served so quickly we even had time for a dessert before our show and these were simply the icing on the cake! The staff were friendly but professional and the atmosphere was lovely. I will definitely be returning - a real favourite.

Went here for the early bird with friends before a night out. Found the choices on the early bird to be slightly limited, but what we all got was quite nice, and was quite reasonable. It was very busy with a good buzz in the place - good way to start a night out!

I went here on a Sunday with my girlfriend after hearing great reviews, and I can second the well deserved reputation. The greeting was pleasant and the waiter was classy, friendly and efficient. I had deep fried brie for starters which was delicious, and for mains I had the famous cannelloni which had a great, homely taste. The decor is great and you just know that this place has been around for years. Signed photos of theatre stars line the walls and the seats, carpeted floors and lamps keep up the theatre feel. Definitely one to visit at some stage, pre-theatre is better value.

This place is a firm favourite of mine. The atmosphere is second to none - its really buzzing at the weekends. I usually go for the monkfish & cant wait till my next meal there. A night in Trocadero is always a bit special and I would recommend a visit.

My boyfriend booked this restaurant as a surprise for my birthday, it was beautiful. Our table wasn't quiet ready when we arrived but the bar area had a great atmosphere so we didn't mind waiting. Our waiter was brilliant, really friendly and a real showman (he was also from Cork). The food was nice, not the best I've ever had but no complaints either. But what impressed me the most was the fact that we stayed at the table for almost 3 hrs, and no-one rushed us of hurried us. It was so relaxing, and the wine was lovely.

On 6th April I booked Trocadero for myself and 5 friends for Thursday night last 17th April. When we got there they had no record of our booking, however despite being obviously very busy they were very apologetic and had a table ready for us within 10 minutes. The atmosphere was really good and our waiter was really efficient and good craic to boot (he was from Cork). The food was very good; I had butternut squash with goat’s cheese to start which was really nice and a very generous portion. For main course I had scallops with bacon and cabbage which I have to say was wonderful. Some of my friends had monk fish with a balsamic reduction which they felt was a little too sweet, otherwise there were no complaints. We were very impressed to see that the really nice house wine was a very reasonable €22. Overall a fantastic night and for the atmosphere and celeb spotting alone (yes we did see a few!) well worth a visit. We will definitely be back.

Good honest food and old fashioned hospitality with a wine menu that was frighteningly reasonable for such a well known Dublin 2 restaurant!! Every dish was well presented and beautifully balanced with every flavour bursting through. Our waiter was fabulous and very charming. This is one that you want to go back to again and again and again!!

I ate here on a week night and while most places were dead it was quite busy. I was served a risotto to start that was inedible. Overcooked and lukewarm. I left it all behind but was never asked if there was a problem. Overall the meal was poor. Fish dishes were chewy and dry, duck was overcooked. The desserts were fine but nothing special. The attraction can only be the ambience of the place, which it has in spades but the food is only carvery standard. Disappointing.

I came here with a large group. They wouldnt seat us until everyone had arrived, but we went to the bar to wait and the service from the bar til the time we left was superb. Food was delicious. Our main server was great, he remembered every little request we made. The restaurant was full but the noise level was never uncomfortable. Really a great night. Great food, service and atmosphere. Eeveryone should try it once!

Had a meal in the Troc recently, good atmosphere, great service - waiter even went to pub next door to order Guinness on draught as a few pints were planned afterwards and didn't want to mix drinks. Starters were large portions - Crayfish and avocado, very nice but smothered with seafood sauce which may be preferable on the side. Mixture of sides with main course were excellent. Rack of lamb was large, tasty but a little too well done and slightly tough. A great place to meet, not cheap, but full of atmosphere even on a monday night - also great memorabilia from the arts and theatrical world.

Came here for dinner with a few Spanish Delegates, 25 of us in total, and the food was superb. The atmosphere is unique and it was the perfect choice. Our waiting staff were wonderful. My only disappointment was that we were hurried out of there as the table was booked for someone else after. Other than that we were all happy, and satisfied with the whole experience.

Unbelievable value for money! The service is what you expect but often do not get in dublin restaurants these days. The food was delicious, and excellent value for money. There were 5 of us out on a girly night for dinner at the Troc and on to see the really funny Menopause the Musical with Twink in it in the Tivoli. We arrived at 6 after booking the table weeks ago through menupages, the place was already busy and had great atmosphere. I ordered a bottle of fairly priced Prosecco to kick off our meal (€35), we were eating off the exceptional valued pre-theatre menu, two courses for €25. I had the risotto which was perfect, creamy and a small enough portion to suffice but my friends fried brie was sublime with the delicious red berry sauce. I had the seabass fillet for main which was cooked to perfection simply served with baked spud and green beens with crunch. Three ordered duck which was slightly overcooked, pink is better to avoid the chewy factor and the skin was not as crispy as you would normally like but the sauce was delicious. The fifth person had the spicey bean stew which was very tasty. With a bottle of Gavi de Gavi (€30) and a half bottle of Valpolicella, cheese board, port for one, coffee for four the bill only came to €40 each including a tip.....such excellent value for such a fantastic restaurant. It is easy to see why there is a three week waiting list for weekends. They do it right at the Troc and I am looking forward to going again soon!

Excellent place to eat, with fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. I had the monkfish for mains and it was delicious. Had the dark and white chocolate mousse cake for dessert which was also really nice. Can't comment on the value as we were treated to dinner but I would definitely return!

We had a table booked here for Friday night and were told that we could have the table from 6.00- 8.00pm. Unfortunately some of our party didnt arrive until 6.30pm and we all enterered together. We were expecting to be told that the times specified would remain but were given a warm greeting and a promise that we would have the table as long as we possibly could. This ended up being until 8.45pm. The meal itself was delicious, one of the best I've had in ages. Went for the brie for starters and fillet steak for main course and they were just superb, portion size was just right too. For sides we had a mixture and they were all great, worth a special mention was the potnip (mix of potato and turnip). Finished it off with the pecan pie and then rolled home! Overall a great experience definitely going to come back here very soon.

Rescued by the maitre d', after another establishment reneged on a confirmed booking, I was not looking for more than a decent meal and a comforting bottle of wine. However, I should not have been very surprised, with the excellent steak, hot and tasty side dishes, and a warming bottle of Argentinian Malbec. That's not to mention the delicious starters, and a Pecan Pie that melted in the mouth. Some might think the menu a little old fashioned and predictable, I say it's comfort food at its best, and that's exactly what it did for me and my guest last night. Plus a great buzzy atmosphere on a cold and wet night...what more could you want.

How this restaurant had only 3.5 star average is beyond me. I was there on Saturday night for the 7 - 9 sitting. The staff were fantastic from the moment we arrived and throughout the meal. The food was great and the place has a lovely buzzy feel to it. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for good food and service in the city centre.

One of our fave restaurants - love the old theatrical style - the food is excellent, good choice on the menu, the side dishes are divine. Service is normally excellent, we were a bit disappointed on this night but they were extremely busy so we made allowances. Def still one of the faves!

Absolutely one of my favourites in Dublin. Outstanding atmosphere, great service and consistently great food. Side dishes were really excellent last time, had pate and risotto - two starters but absolutely filling. tasted both the pistachio ice cream and cheesecake and both were excellent. a few people said the fish portions were small.

First off we arrived early ( bout45minutes or so)but after a minute or two they found us a a table so off to a good start.I ended up swapping my starter for my friends vegetable soup as there was so much coriander in it he couldn't eat it- It was delicious but perhaps a bit of a surprise if not expecting it! I ordered a steak cooked rare for mains but like so often is the case this is not possible so i got the usual medium to well done rubbish.Awful!Chips were very good though.the other mains ordered were average at best and the side orders tasted like they had been boiled for hours.not good at all. Not a great experience especially for the price.Wine list not very interesting either. Not somewhere i will be back to soon!

I'm a student and ate here with a group of fellow students a few weeks ago. We went for the 'pre theatre menu'. Food was delicious and really good value, had the brie for starter, but also tried the goats cheese and pate which were all beautiful. Sea bass main was superb, duck was also tasty but found the venison sausage a little dry. Nice bottle of house wine. All in all meal was gorgeous and we were there long after the 7.45 deadline, it was nice not to be rushed. Will definitely eat there again.

Went here last night for dinner. Though we'd booked a table for 8:30, upon arrival we were told they were running a half hour late, and to come back at 9pm. We did so, and were seated at the bar for another half hour before sitting down at our table. Despite this delay we really enjoyed the evening. The atmosphere was great, both at the bar and in the restaurant, and all the staff were extremely friendly and very apologetic about the delay. In fact, when we'd finished our first bottle of wine our waiter arrived with a second on the house to make up for the delay. As I'd chosen poorly first time round he was happy to recommend another bottle which was really nice. The food was great - both of us had steaks which were cooked to perfection. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was great. I'll definitely be returning.

I love this place. We've been here a few times and although we are always the youngest people by a fair few years the staff are always friendly and attentive. I always get the prawns to start and the lamb for main course and I have never once been disappointed. I would recommend the Trocadero to anybody.

Ate here on Saturday nite. The place was very busy but we were only waiting at the bar for five mins. The staff were all very friendly, and the food was lovely. I had a good sized portion of duck for my main, and the rest of my party had steaks which were all cooked perfectly.

Pre-theatre menu is great value - €25 for 2 courses of delicious food. Went here with 4 friends and everyone loved their food. I had the fried Brie and the Duck for main course. Some of the staff were a little rude but overall a really good experience!

The Troc. Great nickname for a restaurant. Like some of the reviews below we were going for the traditional ‘pre theatre’ menu and were not rushed out the door at 7.45pm.Not because were cheapskates you must understand, but it was the sisters graduation from college and she had a compelling urge to be half cut before the nine oclock news. There was six of us- which sometimes leads to less than favourable experience but from start to finish the service and attention was unfaultable. The wine recommendation was spot on- with the waiter actually advising a slightly cheaper bottle of wine, which must be unique in itself. First course I had the risotto which was spot on, decent portion and plenty of cheese. Which if you like mushroom risotto you don’t really want a modest portion of low fat aldi cheese. Mrs buco got the deep fried brie- which on ordering I had assumed would not suffice for sharing with mister buco but the ample serving gave everyone a taste. The stand out starter, which I will be getting next time, was the goats cheese. Flavour, freshness and contrasting textures. Things were looking very encouraging for the main course. AT just the right moment, about 23 minutes after the starters were cleared, the 6 main courses arrived near simultaneously and my duck was ducking felicious. 2 large breasts, minimal fat and a decent gamey flavour. This was no ‘factory duck’ if such a thing exists. Everyone else got the fish, which was reported as excellent but having been so taken with my duck I drifted off into culinary contention, gazing around the room wondering what level of celebrity status one must achieve to have your photo hung on the wall. Then I noticed a sultry picture of Blannaid from the afternoon show staring suggestively back at me and decided it was a thought best left unanswered.

Went here last night for an early bird with 3 of my friends. Staff were very friendly and even though we had been told that we had to give our table back at 7.45, we were still sitting there coming up to 8.30. We certainly didn't feel we were being pushed out. Had the risotto for starter, which was just the right portion & the duck for main which was yum. Really cosy and will definitely return.

I was pleasently surprised by the Trocadero. It still has that rustic theatre atmosphere which is great for a cosy Friday night. I had the fillet steak which was cooked beautifully. Well worth a try if you can manage to book a table. Always very busy, so book well in advance

The "Troc" is pretty much what you expect. The food is sort of stuck in the 70's/80's but its tasty and the decor is nice, if a bit dark, but the place does have a great atmosphere. I had the smoked salmon on baby potatoes with avocado and horseradish and the combination worked really well. I had scallops with bacon for my main, very traditional combination but also very delicious. The service was good up until we were looking to pay the bill - that took about an extra 45mins. Overall I like the place, it's a bit of fun, can be quite romantic and the food is good - probably not best value for money though.

Great atmosphere here, such a mixed type of crowd - all age groups. The food is good and you will find it hard to beat the service.

The Trocadero is my absolute favourite restaurant. I only go there for special occasions, not just when you go out for a 'bite to eat'. Ate there last on the 29th September to celebrate 30th and last wedding anniversary and it was as close to perfect as it gets. The service is warm and welcoming. I would have to say that the risotto was edible but not great but however, the rack of lamb was bordering on magnificent. All the staff do a superb job.

Having frequented this establishment for some 20 years -The Troc is like coming home to a much loved aunt! It never fails to be a pleasant, warm environment - where the staff can't ever do enough for you. Although the food isn't going to blow you away, it certainly has the ability to make you feel completely comforted and content. The old school decor just adds to its charm. There is good reason for the Trocadero's reputation, as one of the best spots to go in the city. If you are looking for some old school glamour, it's a safe bet! I hope to be going there for another 20 years!

The early bird menu is excellent value for money! Had the Thai Prawns to start and Duck for Main course! All four of us agreed it was excellent! For €23 a head it has to be the best value in Dublin! Portions were good and well presented! The service was excellent using experienced staff that were very attentive! This is now our fourth time going so can't be bad!

Very Disappointing. This was my first visit and I was decidedly underwhelmed. Faded decor, uninspiring food and really poor value. The restaurant's reputation has to be based on the lively atmosphere and slightly esoteric clientele - and definitely not on the miniscule portion of dried up duck I was served. I left still feeling hungry - and fleeced. Won't be back.

This is certainly one of the best dining rooms in Dublin. The atmosphere is fantastic, even on a Tuesday night when I was there last. The staff were friendly and prompt, but not overbearing. The food, for the most part was top class. Both my risotto starter and my filet steak were cooked to perfection and the peppercorn sauce was the best I've had. I had chips with my steak which were very obviously from frozen and quite soggy which was a disappointment and the chocolate tart for dessert was a little dry and uninspired. I will be back to eat here again, but please do something about the chips in the meantime!

2 words! Grilled sole!! It is amazing and I enjoy fish so much but in Ireland I find it hard to find good quality sole and let alone on a menu! I would definitely return for sole alone! Quite a lovely atmosphere also.

I’ve been meaning to come here for years but it always slips my mind when the opportunity arises, a bit like choosing the DVD or book. Anyway we went here last week for the pre-theatre menu which is good value. The atmosphere and decor are perfect with the old red velvet classic surroundings. However I was disappointed with the food. I felt the menu was a little boring. I had the brie to start which was fine and the duck for main which was a little fatty. Both were edible but nothing to get excited about. It felt like a restaurant your parents would have chosen when you were a kid for all the family special occasions. Only problem is it also feels like little has changed here since you were a kid.

What a disappointment. Ate here recently for the first time, after hearing lots of good reports about the place. Was met by a very abrupt seating hostess, although out waiter was very nice. The interior is lovely; our table had a snug-like feel to it. I had the salmon, and while the fish was fine, it was nothing spectacular. The vegetables were disgraceful. The potatoes and veg looked liked & tasted like they were days old. The parsley sauce on the fish was powdery and starting to separate on the plate. I was so disappointed and this place isn't cheap! I begrudgingly handed over my credit card at the end of the meal, making a mental note never to return there again.

I visited Trocadero on Saturday with my boyfriend the last time I went was two years ago and back then I thought it was fab, its still the same I really enjoyed it and so did my boyfriend, he had the t-bone steak I had the the sticky monkfish it was mouth watering, I also had two glasses of wine which was really good as well. There’s always a nice atmosphere in the place and it was very busy the Friday night I went. Can’t wait to go again!!

I love Trocadero!! Great food and wine menu (I had the panfried sticky monkfish recently which was amazing), their steaks and sides are always great. It always reminds me of Paris for some reason. They do get rather busy so you need to just relax, have a glass of wine and enjoy the food and the atmosphere.

Myself and my partner went to Trocadero on Saturday night. What a disaster. We were met by a rude lady at the door who barked at us to 'go to the bar while we make up your table'. NOT the way to talk to paying customers. I ordered the butternut squash stew, what a measly serving for 18 EUROS! I'd say it cost max 1 euro to produce. There was about 2 bits of squash in it and it tasted like a canteen school dinner. Ordered a side or broccoli (3.75 for a tiny bowl) and asked for NO butter as I am allergic to it. You guessed it, it came smeared in butter. My partner ordered a steak (28.50!!!!) that came only with fries that were so obviously frozen bought in. We didn't even consider pudding and left feeling very disappointed and completely ripped off. This place must be living on its old reputation, as I've tasted better canteen dinners. Awful.

Had planned to go to this restaurant for some time but something always came up. Was therefore delighted when this place was chosen for a work night out. Love the old, theatrical feel to the restaurant. Thought the food was superb. We did order a selection of vegetables for the table. They brought us all the side orders on the menu which if I had been paying for myself I may have queried as I don't think these were cheap. The wine was also wonderful. As I didn't pay I can't complain about the price but I may have been reluctant about paying over €20 for a chicken salad had I been there of my own accord. Would recommend it for a special occasion or for the pre-theatre menu, which looks very reasonable.

I went here in Apr 07 for a birthday treat for my significant other. It was a weekday night, so fairly quiet. The atmosphere is strange, quite unusual. You don't feel like you are in a restaurant when you are sitting in the comfy couches & surrounded by photos of famous actors, etc. The service was fine, not outstanding. The welcome at the door wasn't great. It took them a moment or two of us standing there before they deal with us, which was rude. Our waiter was very friendly though & made up for the earlier poor service. The food was fine, but not memorable at all. It was cosy and comfy but didn't feel like you were eating out. Would probably suit an arty crowd. Didn't befit the special occasion. Price wasn't too bad. Overall a middle-of-the-road experience.

Love the old, theatrical feel to this place. It’s also nice to be served by professional staff who have an interest in what they're doing, as opposed to bored students trying to earn a few bob. Its quite expensive, but the early bird is good value and the place buzzes just as much at 6 in the evening as at 10 o clock at night.

I have heard some many things about this 'Dublin institution' but I was very disappointed when I finally got to eat there. A party of 9 attended this restaurant recently, 1st Sat night in June.... There was mixture of pre theatre menu and A La Carte, the brie was tasteless and to be honest I can’t even remember how the duck tasted!!!! The general feeling after the meal was one of disappointment, it is totally over priced and seems to be living on its old reputation!!! However, the bar is a relaxing way to enjoy a drink if your table isn't ready, which seem to be the case for a lot of people that night. I would only recommend this restaurant as an early bird meal as everything else is way overpriced.

This is one restaurant that I will keep going back to. My Wife and I went to celebrate my Birthday and Wedding anniversary and had a great night. The food was fantastic-main courses were monkfish and fillet steak. Food was so good I wanted more. From the attention we got from the staff when we arrived at 10pm until we left - which was 1.30 am really added to the occasion. The restaurant may cost a few euro more than other places, but just pay it for a great night. Can’t wait to go back again.

I have been to the Trocadero a fair few times as it’s the sort of place you go to on a date or with your elderly aunt or with a group of friends. There is a great atmosphere in the place and the service is great too. Robert, the maitre d' is outstanding and always makes you feel welcome. There were two of us who had dinner there about a week ago. It was a Wednesday night but the place was hopping when we came in for our table at eight o clock. We were asked whether we wanted to go to the bar but as we were both hungry, we opted to be seated straight away. The food here is very traditional and plain enough but all the better for that. I had the pate to start and my date had the deep-fried brie. Both were very tasty and gone in no time. I opted for Duck as my main course and my friend had the Fillet Steak. We ordered three sides, which were bigger than we thought so we struggled to finish them. The food was great and we enjoyed it all very much. We had a lovely bottle of Mad Fish cabernet to wash down the food and Irish coffees to finish. I think the Troc is one of those restaurants that is all about the atmosphere so it’s the perfect place to linger and have a second bottle of wine and shoot the breeze.

This was a disappointment. Everyone has heard raves about this place but the service was slow and unsatisfactory. We had a table reserved at 9pm and only sat down to dinner at 10:30. The food was good but simply not worth the money that was paid for it.

I have visited many times over the years and one thing I have noticed is that for early bird and very late evening the food is great. At normal dining times it can be terrible. The atmosphere is always great and the staff are surely enthusiastic and on the ball. So you kind of take your chances! But you can also just pop in late evening (when it is hard to find somewhere for just a couple of glasses of wine and nibbles) and probably the only place in Dublin to sit down to dinner at 11.30 at night. It's an institution.

I was looking to go here for some time. It was noted as one of the best places to eat in Dublin. I went on a Saturday night and was not impressed at all. When we arrived we were shoved into the bar and our coats were not taken. The barman was quite rude and just looked at us and said nothing. It does not come close to other restaurants in the same price range. I had fish and there was at least 10 bones in it, of course it isn't a problem to get a bone or two in the fish but when you order a fillet of Sea Bass, in a quality restaurant, you don't expect that many! Nothing was special...I would have done a better job cooking the bland dishes myself at home. Very disappointed!

The Troc is a very special eatery with a great reputation - yet to disappoint! The Low-down: Food is always great; Robert (your host) has this amazing way of making you feel as if you eat there every night, so welcoming. Its romantic, its a lil bizarre, very old school - but we love it! Just wish every time we go in that Marty Whelan wasn't watching over us eat - we seem to always get that table!!! (Oh - its only Marty's -old- photo BTW!!!)

I love this place so much...it's like relaxing with your friends in your living room, I have to stop myself from putting my feet up on the chair and lying back. The staff are really friendly and think nothing of sitting in with you for a chat. The food is great too, really simple but cooked deliciously.

This is one of the boomerang restaurants that I keep returning to and it’s hard to reason why. It is in a time warp, there is nothing innovative about the menu, I don’t think the wine card has changed in years, yet I return on a regular basis, to tell the truth it is the comfort of knowing exactly what you will get, add to that the good friendly service and then you know why the place is there as long as it is, its not broken don’t fix it.

Having just eaten in The Trocadero only last night I can honestly say it was wonderful. The ambiance was fabulous and so too was the food. This is one of the best restaurants in the city.... well worth a visit ... if only for the ambiance!

I cannot understand the hype about this place. After wanting to go there for so long having heard so much about it, we booked well in advance for a weekend night. When we got there we were left standing inside the door for a good 5 minutes while being ignored. It is understandable if they are busy but a simple "will be with you in just a moment" along with a smile would have put us at ease. When we did eventually get some attention we were shown to a make shift table beside the kitchen, where waiters hit off us every 2 minutes. Very disappointing since we had booked so far in advance. Food was terrible - I have nothing against plain food, if done properly - this was ridiculous. I ordered deep fried bree to start, presented along side a limp lettuce leaf - it was cold and not melted on the inside. Sent it back (which I rarely do). It returned after my partner had finished his starter. It was still cold. I won't bore you with the rest of the details but it was basically one thing after another. We paid the bill and left very unsatisfied. So much so, that I felt compelled to write to the manager. I did not want anything in return, I just felt so disappointed and frankly, angry, that I thought they should know. Received a lovely handwritten letter apologising profusely and a good will gesture of a voucher for €100 to return. Great we thought - we will give them a chance to redeem themselves. Booked in a few months later (again, booked well in advance) and would you believe it - it was equally as bad. The table we received was nicer but the food and service were terrible. I ordered sea bass which was to be served with a "balsamic jus" which turned out to be a sticky mess which looked like tar. I'm sorry to go on and on but needless to say we have never been back, and never will, I'm afraid. We were hardly unlucky twice???

We arrive in Trocadero out of the rain last Thursday, cold wet & dishevelled. Warmly greated by the host & staff alike - our coats were taken & we were seated at our table. And offered a bigger table which we greatly accepted. Meal was just perfect - my goats cheese & beetroot salad was top class. Everything we tasted was delicious. And the side dishes of potatoes and veg are divine. Overall - great food & great staff.

This is a place to go for a really good night out for a couple. Really romantic and full of atmosphere. (Lots of celebs eat here too, so keep your eyes open!) Not as expensive as we thought it would be. I had a succulent fillet steak, medium/rare and it came out perfect. Cannot fault it at all. Desserts are to die for, just get anything at all, they all look divine. They have an early bird option, which is excellent value, but we can never get there on time for it. Well worth a visit.

Having eaten in most city centre restaurants a friend advised me to book a table at the Trocadero. Known more so for its good atmosphere than its food, we ventured along mid-week with a view to escape the usual dining experience offered more increasingly in Dublin’s restaurants. We arrived for our reservation no more than five minutes late, and were asked to sit at the bar, this did not bother us too much at the time as these things happen, and it was the additional half hour wait that did cause some distress. Our table was nice the decor was tasteful if not outdated, but its rich colours and plush feel gave a warm dining experience. The waiter was friendly although he did seem quite rushed opting for the slightly intrusive American style order taking procedure of sitting beside you at your table. The food itself was nicely presented, when my partner requested a dish that was off the menu, the waiter kindly obliged and the result was delicious. The food was good, no complaints here, a little plain but still rather nice, I would recommend, maybe a Saturday night would present a better atmosphere.

Maybe we were unlucky but we found our waiter to be friendly but inexperienced. My rack of lamb was very good but a request for sea bass off the bone did not go down well it arrived full of bone, and after a further request it arrived back still full of bone. We were told by a tall waitress of rank "that if you don’t like bone don’t order fish “we had heard great reports of the Trocadero but we left very disappointed.

As it's reputation precedes it, this turned out to be a restaurant with a lot of theatrical entertainment! It has a warm informal atmosphere with a bohemian clientele. The bar provides a wide variety of pre dinner drinks should you wish. The menu is wide ranging, mainly European and very reasonably priced. To top it all, the baritone voices of the waiters singing renditions of Happy Birthday and other requested songs, throughout the evening adds a theatre feel to the whole experience.
