Went on spec last Sunday, might be an idea to book ahead next time. Lovely menu with the option to prebook your own party's roast. Loved the friendly staff, the warm spiced pumpkin salad & especially loved our pre-dinner mojito! Will definitely return.

Ate for the first time here on Thursday night. Whilst the place was very busy the staff were attentive. The food was delicious however there was quite a delay on the main course. The place was buzzing and quite loud so not somewhere you'd go for a quiet romantic meal but I couldn't fault the food. Only thing I would change is that the service be a little quicker.

I've eaten here twice recently - once on a Tuesday and again on a Friday evening. On both occasions the staff were very attentive and helpful. The menu is also well thought out with lots of options. I think it's a great option for a night out with friends especially over the weekend - although booking is probably essential as it gets jam-packed. During the week though it has a really nice chilled out atmosphere.

I had a late lunch in the Exchequer with work colleagues. All of the food was very well presented and tasty. The steak sandwich was cooked to order on crusty break with chips. I had seafood chowder and an open smoked salmon sandwich. Also on the menu was beer battered ling, a variety of salads and fish pie. The service was excellent and there's lots of seating for groups. The food is very well presented and tastes great!

It was quite loud but I guess that depends on other groups having dinner at the same time. Food was quite good. Service was alright. They made it clear that they were annoyed we wanted to split the bill without saying it before (maybe they can ask as well, as foreigners we don't always know the customs and they are used to have tourists), but they did it anyway. We spotted an error in the bill and even if they didn't believe us and said it was the right price, they finally double-checked the price and corrected it explaining that their software had a problem.

Great party atmosphere on a saturday night. Delicious cocktails. The food was very good value at just under 17 euros for an early bird. Will be back to try the sunday roast sounds great.

Went here for food & Hendrick's High tea with 2 friends and service was excellent but the food was fine, and portions a bit small. I had been here previously and thoroughly enjoyed it but the food let the whole thing down a bit this time. I had the Hake which was nicely cooked, but I asked for some extra veg instead of potatoes and I would hate to see the normal portion of veg because I got very little as it was! One friend had the tartlet of Cashel Blue which she seemed to enjoy and the other had the ling fingers which she didn't really like. She was violently ill about an hour later but I don't know if the two events were related. The sticky toffee pudding 'with berries' came with one blackberry and half a strawberry, so it was disappointing. The gin tea is gorgeous and the staff are usually helpful but the food portions are shrinking and quality is slipping I think. Also if an owner is reading, please do something about the varnish on the countertops at the window, it is wearing off and they are permanently sticky which feels disgusting!!

We tried a Sunday lunch, the place was just lovely, modern, clean and very comfortable, we thought the food would be just okay but it was very very nice, we had 3 courses from the main menu, very well priced with decent size portions. We kept looking at the table next to us as they were enjoying a Sunday feast.... we will definitely go back for that.

A group of 18 of us booked a table for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was great however the food is slightly lacking. The menu is very small and portions were rather stingy when they arrived. I won't be rushing back.

Have eaten here 3 times and really never been been hugely impressed. we usually land here after a day shopping in town and have a few drinks (cocktails are fab - ill give them that) food tho - sorry - not fab... and as much as i love the bar - i just cant love the food - its just not great, takes too long, and just very ordinary sorry...love what you're about tho!! two of us had steak...and it was tiny, flat and dry ,the other two girls had the seafood platter costisting of oysters, mussles and small handfull of bits and bobs etc (35 euro) bit much for small bit of seafood... we love the vibe in exchequer bar, the music etc, however for me - it is a cool, relaxed cocktail bar..

Nice comfortable bar with a simple but tasty menu. We both opted for deals, fish, chips and a pint for €15 and steak sandwich with a pint for the same price. The fish is advertised as ling and arrived deep fired on a bed of mashed peas with tarter sauce and home made chips. The flavour of the fish was very delicate and was nearly overpowered by the Belfast Blonde beer batter, the texture was firm but not over done, overall a very enjoyable dish. The steak sandwich was well seasoned and came with onions and some home made pepper sauce and chips. We cleared out plates! We could chose from a pint of Heineken, Belfast Blonde and Guinness to go with our food and we definitely felt with was good value for money. Service was attentive through out, the staff seem interested in the food and beer they are serving which is refreshing. Will definitely be back.

Ate here on saturday night, it was the nicest meal I've ever eaten in a pub.. absolutely beautiful food at a great price. The starter platter is such good value. 3 starters for 20 and it included foie gras and duck liver parfait, calamari and goats cheese beinets with raspberry and beetroot puree! amazing!!! Also had the ling fingers with pea puree and chips, also gorgeous.. such a lovely spot with great atmosphere.. will certainly return again and again

Went for a meal on Saturday afternoon. Food was good but unfortunately as a coeliac was not really suitable for me even though some of the items have "c" written beside them. Soup was gluten free but no gluten free bread, ordered beef salad - asked the waiter if this was enough as a main course and he assured me it was. 8 tiny thin slices of beef round the edge of a slab and a little pile of rocket salad in the centre - nothing else!! I do feel if a restaurant says it caters for coeliacs it should make more of an effort - all the Exchequer does is take away some food (should have replaced the bread with some salad at least). Couldn't eat the chips because they are cooked in the same oil as other foods so all in all not a good experience. A quick word for the chef - please buy some gluten free baps or bread which you can freeze and have them ready for people like me. Paid the same price as everyone else but got less!!

If only all food and drink experiences can be this pleasant. A group of 9 of us availed of the roast lunch offering (chicken and pork) and both dishes were absolutely perfect – including all the trimmings. And each roast comes with a complimentary bottle of wine too – what value for money! Most of us also had additional dessert, after which we moved to the couches for another couple of post lunch drinks as the atmosphere was very relaxed and the service tops! I can see why this place wins awards…

Came here as a group on the first sitting of the evening. Some of our group were late and the waitress advised that this could be messy later in the evening as they needed the table back by 9.30. However she was very nice and at no time did we feel under pressure. We had the set menu for 30Euro. I had the goat cheese starter and the hake as the main. Both were delicious and I couldn't fault them. However I was extremely envious of the Rare Beef Salad starter which looked evine and got good reviews from those that ordered it. The crispy pork belly with calamari was cooked to perfection as I was able to get a taste of my neighbours, and everyone enjoyed their steaks. The only downside was that we got dessert platters, but that was possibley just me being greedy! The staff were friendly, helpful and thoughtful. I'd recommend this place no problem and I plan on coming back soon!!

Hi I went here for the first time with a friend as he'd been before and loved it. Apparently the haggis was supposed to be amazing. We hadn't booked a seat but were made to feel immediately welcome and got a table after 15 mins. I had the smoked salmon starter which was delicious. My friend had the haggis - which is like a mild black pudding and was good too. I had the smoked pork which was completely over salted so I sent it back. The complaint was handled really well and I was brought out a replacement meal quickly enough. Overall a very nice experience despite the salty pork and I would definitely go back.

I go here regularly for drinks with friends, but this was the first time I'd eaten here, having heard many a good thing about it. I had the pork belly and my friend had the cockles and mussels. She thoroughly enjoyed hers. Although mine was also very enjoyable, I will say that it wasn't the best I have had. There was no crispy crackling, which with pork belly I would have taken as standard! The mash potato was creamy and smooth-just as I like it! One other thing, the cocktails in here are AMAZING! I think the barman is an educated mixologist-and it shows! The service here is always very good, and even though it was Paddy's day when we went, the service was quick and attentive. Also, I think the bouncers do their job very well once it turns into a 'bar', cause on the rowdiest of rowdy days, it was still all very good humoured with no problems!

Have to say I had my reservations about eating in a pub on a Sat night, too busy etc.., but the service was excellent, staff frieindly but professional and very attentive. We were there at eight so it wasn't too busy, but at half ten the music started full blast, as is to be expected I suppose, so it was hard to hear each other talking over the table. So eat early and expect it to get loud! The food was excellent, I had the goats cheese starter, which was excellent, and my partner had the duck salad which was also devine, and something a bit differnet to the norm. My rib eye steak was cooked perfectly and they made me a bernaise sauce which wasn't on the menu, fab! Their chocolate platter desert was delicious too, plenty for two or even three people if you've had starters! My partner had the pork and the couple we were with had the sea bass, which I also tried. Much better than average pub food, the Sunday roast sounds amazing, will be back to try this!

First time in this place and it was lovely. Monday night at 7 was pretty quiet but glad we still stayed in there (anyhow place started to fill up a bit as we were leaving). Staff couldn't have been more sincere and attentive. Haggis and crab/crayfish for starters were lovely and very generous portions. Same for mains - pork belly and mash and ling fingers with chips. Struggled to finish dinner and very sadly didn't have room for dessert but its definitely on our list of places to go to again, so well done owners on having wonderful staff!

Really enjoyed a meal here recently. We took our time enjoying our meal and didnt feel rushed at all which can be a problem in some pubs that serve food and are very busy. I had a steak sandwich which was cooked exactly as i had ordered it and was to die for- I will be back for that alone! Their deserts also were homemade and just what you want on a cold winter evening. Wine list is quite extensive also- our server recommended a lovely Malbec which went down a treat!

Went here with a friend for dinner. Much trendier than was expecting. Quiet at first but filled up very quickly.Food delicious, fresh and substantial portion.I had fish which was really good. Good wine list. We were told they needed the table back by 8pm and we were finished eating and just waiting to pay. The waitress was very sharp tongued in telling us we had to go soon.It was unecessary and she did apologise for her manner once she realised. Not many options if not a meat-eater. Would go back as food and atmosphere excellent.

Saturday and the place was hopping. We had a citydeal voucher, so opted for the Venison and the Ribeye Steak with a side of chips and veg. My friend had a pint instead of the cocktail so I had both or them. The first cocktail was quiet strong and the second very sweet, so the inconsistency was disappointing as was the cocktail in the first place. The Vension was hard to find on the plate as there was so little of it, the gratin potatoes were tasteless and the red cabbage overpowered the whole dish. I asked for the steak to be medium rare and it came out very rare, but that didn’t bother me too much, it was the fact that all our food including the side of veg was luke warm at best. On the whole a total disappointment, the service was good and the staff were friendly, so I don’t know if it was because we were on a deal or not, but I can’t see any reason to return. We both laughed when we saw the card that came with the bill “gastro pub of the year”

Overall: Very impressed with the sunday lunch options - both quality of food and service. We'll all definitely be back, and next time intend to try the a-la-carte menu as well. Summary: six of us, plus two babies went along on Sunday afternoon. We had the "roast pork for four" special offer, and the two vegetarians ate a-la-carte. We booked one of the booths which gave us plenty of space for two highchairs Atmosphere: The atmosphere was good. It was very busy so there was a good bustle, but, on the other hand, we'd no problem hearing each other speak. Food: Very impressed with the quality of the food - especially given the price. Both the roast, and the vegetarian options which we tried were lovely. The desserts were great too. We were especially happy that the presentation and quality of the sides for the roast special were very high - since we had been worried that they might have cut corners for this - they didn't. Service: This was excellent. We had two babies with us, and they were no trouble. Two of our friends were almost 30 mins late, and this was fine too. Nothing was forgotten. It was easy to attract attention of waiters when we wanted to. Food was brought out speedily, and equally, we weren't rushed out at the end. Value: The special offers are ridiculously good value. We weren't drinking a whole lot, but the roast pork for four for 40e includes a bottle of wine, and the two vegetarians each had a dublin bike card, so got a glass of wine free with their a-la-cartes. Also, the roast was for three guys and one girl, and everyone was suitably full by the end - so the portions are good sized.

Visited for second time last night for dinner. Used citydeal vouchers this time, didn't mention I had them at time of booking and discovered a depleted menu choice on offer. Venison unavailable. Only cocktail choice was 'cocktail of the day' which was not great this time. Bill came to about €37 per head incl 10% tip. Only 1 of 4 of us had 3 courses. Starters are €9, mains are €18, desserts €6. Again quite difficult to have a conversation due to high noise level on a Sat night and although warned, very long wait for courses to arrive. Also they need to turn on air-conditioning or open one window as room was very uncomfortable (I should have asked for this). On the plus side food was very tasty and service was fine. So popular now that they are having difficulty coping (no. of tables quite small).

I was really looking forward to eating in this 'gastropub' but was sorely disappointed. We had a citydeal voucher and tried to book ahead but their phone was not working. Ran in myself and tried to explain this and get a table if it was free. Had to wait over five mins for waitress to even acknowledge me and she was rude and kept saying had to book by phone and didn't seem to believe their phone wasn't working-eventually got a table and made feel lucky to get it. However she didn't even bring me a menu or clean table but gave others who came after me a menu. Eventually got menu and cutlery-plonked down in a glass on the table. Were only told the specials when we finally got to oder which was too late. Ordered the lamb pie and my hubbie order their fancy fish and chips, and we got a special cocktail each and a salad each as a side. The cocktails were tasty but had so much ice-towering above the small glasses- would have returned them if not part of deal. The food took well over 30 mins to arrive and we had been there 50 mins at that stage so were starving. The fish and chips were fine, nothing special. My lamb pie looked more like a large muffin but was tasty though without the separate gravy (which had little minted flavour as described) would have been dry and boring. The mash was barley warm and the side of beetroot was the same and slightly bitter. Should have sent it back but was fed up of the place and starving. The salads were merely bowls of wet leaves, no other veg at all-hate when restaurants do this. The waitress explained as we left that they had had some trouble with citydeal customers not giving the correct voucher codes but that is no excuse for their rude shoddy service and mediocore food. Am actually an easy going person but this place was a real let down. Very overrated and in this day and age there are plenty of restaurants that are better value with good service and far better food!

Ate here before christmas, had heard about it for a while and was curious to try it out. We weren't starving so shared a starter of potted crab and for mains ordered duck salad (me) and steak sandwich (him). We actually laughed when the potted crab arrived, it was literally a shot glass. A shocking rip off at c. EUR9. I asked for extra bread (the crab came with one slice). The bread arrived 20 minutes later, and instead of being an extra slice (or two) of the bread which came with the crab, the "selection of homemade bread with oil" was delivered for which we were charged c. EUR3.95. Duck salad was nice, steak sandwich was fine. All in all over priced, with poor service and a slightly snotty attitude - a bit 2006, n'est pas? Not really somewhere I am bothered about paying a return visit.

Went here on a deal voucher and that was the only saving grace. The service was bordering on pathetic. We were left waiting for ages despite the fact that there were only 2 other people there. A cocktail was so watered down that it was tasteless. The starter was miniscule. A tiny bowl of soup and some breadsticks. Mains consisted of chicken, couple of leaves of lettuce, a wilted tomato and some matchstick chips. These came in a cone shaped container and the entire meal wouldn't fill a 2 year old. Definitely cut down because we were here on a deal voucher. Not the way to do business if you want a return client.

Myself and my partner were in dublin shopping and myself being a chef was very excited about eating in the '2010 gastro pub of the year', and although expectation were high, with them aside it was very dissapointing, it after 3 pm so it was very quiet, we had the little fella with us an upon entering we were told they had no options for children, grand, let that one go, my partner is vegetarian and not one vegetarian option on the menu, so my partner opted for a vegetarian ciabatta, and while came out was a lettuce and tomato ciabatta, when i said this to the manager, he said ' well what do you want on it' which is not how u handle a customer, they came back with a half decent version, and the manager said to us, 'well there was actually cheese on the first one but we made a re-vamped one for you.' and not one apology. i had the steak sandwich which was average and not to the standard of the awards bestowed, im sure the place is buzzing at night but thats probably all. i wont be back to find out. this now trendy spot should up its game and customer relations if its to survive past the honeymoon period

Really nice soup. Roast chicken & vegetables cooked to perfection. Perfect Sunday afternoon fair. Carving it ourselves was part of the fun. Super lunch pomotion (includes wine) €39.95 for 3 of us - would have fed four! Nice place, poor service but the food made up for it. Looking forward to going back.

We have been here a few times and have never been disappointed ,mind you booking is essential now. There is a good buzz from the cocktail set. We enjoyed the Ling,Seabass and Venison washed doown by a reasonable Sauv Blanc. This time service was a bit on the slow side. We fully intend to try the Sunday roast in the near future. I would recommend this place to everyone... A group of 7 of us dined here last Thursday night, from the moment we arrived everything was top class. Food was delicious, staff were excellent and knew their stuff with lots of helpful suggestions. The menu is wide and there is something for everyone. Their seafood chowder is to die for, creamy with chunky seafood, believe me I have tried it in dozens of places and this is by far the best I have tasted! The same can be said about the Rib eye, venison and numerous other dishes absolutely gorgeous and cheaper than in most places in town! We tried their special cocktails and ended up having 3 or 4 all of which I would highly recommend. Especially the Sheepish Mexican!! A DJ came on about 10pm his music was funky and created a great atmosphere. This is one of the best places in Dublin for food and drinks I cannot wait to go again!

I made last minute dinner reservation and they were able to accommodate during the busiest season. The atmosphere was very comfortable and cozy in the side dining room and the staff were very responsive and helpful with every detail. It was a great to relax after a long day of shopping in the city centre without having to go far. The lighting and the music added to the great ambiance of the place. We had the cheese platter starter which was very well presented (loved the wooden board) and the duck for main. The dinner was absolutely divine and very well accompanied by a glass of red wine recommended by our waitress. Although we were tempted to order the famous chocolate platter, I went with the jelly and ice cream which was the perfect finish, crisp and refreshing. The overall experience was lovely and I will definitely be back for more.

You'd think I would have had my fill of Roast dinners after the feasting that took place over the Christmas holidays. I thought so too until my friend and I decided to give the Exchequer Sunday Roast a shot. We booked in the newest arrival... Roast Venison! It was utterly divine and instantly outshone the recently devoured Christmas dinner... sorry mum! Roast venison with all the trimmings, fantastic gravy and a bottle of wine. Every last bite was eaten and the wine complimented the venison perfectly. All this for only €40! Lovely service too, very friendly and welcoming. You can get the Roast Chicken for 4 people for the same price so I'll be back with 3 friends in tow very soon.

Apparently this pub has won Irish gastropub of the year; I don't know why though. There must surely be other pubs that serve better food than this. It wasn't terrible, just very unimpressive. I had foie gras to start, which was nice enough but came with some very wet salad with no dressing. My husband had spicy tomato soup which he said was nice. My main course was the rib of beef, for which they had run out of hollandaise and mash potato so I got boiled and red wine jus instead. One slice of beef was tough, the other tender. It tasted fine, but to be honest, I've had better at home. My husband's chicken with bean stew was tasty enough, but nothing special. We were far too stuffed for dessert. We also ordered 2 glasses of different reds which the bar man mixed up when he brought them over. Our waitress was good though. Can't say I'd bother going back to be honest.

Was looking forward to eating there as had heard some good reports but unfortunately very little went right on our visit. The bar area was very cold and noisy, not helped by the distraction of sky sports. The food was very average. i decided to have two starters instead of a main. The chowder was not well seasoned and did not contain much fish and the starter portion of mussels and cockles were only ok with a lot of empty shells. They also did not provide a bowl for the used shells. My companion had turkey, getting in the mood for Christmas, but this dish was poor. The portion was tiny for the price and we needed to order a side of chips to bulk it out, Service was reasonable, and some nice beers on draught but overall we would not be in a hurry to return as it was quite expensive for such an ordinary experience.

Went here for drinks after out Christmas party dinner. Wasn't impressed and wont be returning. For such a busy time of year they only one guy serving in the bar so there was a bit of a wait to be served. Though he was really friendly and got to everyone as quickly as he could. They had a special offer on cocktails but didn't have the ingredients in for half of what was on offer.. DJ came one but wasn't great. Its an OK pub but not for me. Wouldn't recommend this place..

I came here last night with some friends to use our city deal vouchers. We each had a main course, side dish and a cocktail as part of the deal and then shared the chocolate platter for dessert. The food was nice, my only complaint would be that I ordered the ling fingers and I would have preferred the tartare sauce to come on the side instead of already poured all over my food. There was a little too much sauce for my taste and it would have been much better if I could have made the decision myself how much to put on. Never mind though, otherwise the food was very nice, especially the dessert which went down a treat with all of us.

I was looking forward to eating here for ages and I left very disappointed. The food lacked style, imagination and above all taste. I had the plaice which was overcooked. My eating buddy had the chicken, which he said was extremely bland. The only promising thing about the whole meal was the side salad. While I like popping in for a drink, it will be a long time, if ever, before I return to eat. Service-wise, it was friendly, professional & efficient!

Went here for a late lunch last week. One of our party had previously dined here and recommended the duck salad. As a vegetarian I opted for the goats cheese salad. We picked a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc. The waitress explained that they had just completed a wine tasting course and gave us a sample of the wine we chose to compare against another. While the other bottle was 7euro more expensive this was insignificant as there were four of us and the difference in quality was quite apparent. We all really enjoyed our afternoon. The only fault I would have is that the goats cheese salad was in fact 3 croquette shaped pieces of cheese with a very sparse spread of leaves so it was not really a substantial salad, more a warm cheese board of sorts. Would definitely return though.

I got a voucher from citydeals for a main course, a side dish and a cocktail. I went here on a Saturday night, the atmosphere was very nice. I really loved the food but the service was really bad. We asked for water at the start and waited ages to get it. The waitress just seem to be in a bad mood and was really missing a smile. Another waitress could had been new as she seemed quite clumsy and wobbly with the plates. I had venison for my main with seasonal vegetables which just melted in my mouth. I was surprised that the waitress didn't ask how I wanted it cooked as when it arrived it was cooked medium. It was fine for me and I really enjoyed it but a lot of people don't like it that way and would be better to ask. My partner had chicken with black pudding and a side dish of chips which was equally as nice. I liked the way the food was presented and the chips came in this little silver tin cup. For dessert we shared a chocolate platter with five different desserts and it really brought you to chocolate heaven. The daily cocktail was an orange and lime caprioska and was really horrible. It just tasted bad vodka. It kind of defeats the purpose of having a cocktail in the deal as it cannot be drank. I like this place but I think the service need to be improved.

Had dinner there last evening as part if the City Deal offer (cocktail, main and side for €12). We also had 2 starters and 2 glasses of wine. The food was ok. I had cockels and mussels to stare, they were nothing special. My husband had foie gras which was quite nice but his main (lamb pie) was very dry. My main of ling and fries was good with a really crispy batter. The service was very disjointed. Our side orders did not come with our mains, even when we asked we had to wait ages, colcannon and a side salad should have been easy enough to serve quickly. It seemed there was no real plan with the service. Everyone seemed to be serving every table leaving it quite chaotic. Overall, I'm glad I wasn't paying full price.

This place is realy a pub not a restaruant, the area you dine in is at the back and out of the way, however there is still a noisy pub complete with a DJ only a few yards away and the night we were there it was full and the aircon if they have one at all was either not working or not on, it was very overheated. As its a pub the beer and cocktail list are extensive as and you will find some great beers here that you wont find in many other bars in dublin, the cocktails list is also extensive but one of our party orderd a virgin cocktail and said it was the worst they ever had. The food is good but overpriced for what you get and any place that will charge you for bread really is taking advantage and does not warrent a return trip, the bill came in at just short of 200 euro for four with no wine and a few beers, so not value for money in these times.

I'd heard lots about this place and was looking forward to visiting, we went in and there was a nice atmosphere but were totally ignored by staff so were just left standing there! Our first waiter was very accomodating and friendly, he took our order and we waited. After half an hour still no sign of our food so i asked another waiter to see what the delay was and had to audacity to come out and tell me it was actually 22minutes we've been waiting and the chef was serving it up and no apology. It turned me off going back there but in saying that my friends had the risotto and said it was one of the nicest meals they've ever had, i had the steak sandwich is was just ok.

This place has a great atmosphere. It is a cool place to hang out and eat with no rush will enjoying some of their great wines. Had the seafood chowder which I would count as my second fav in Dublin. Also had the chicken and bacon stuffed with black pudding. I dont normally order "in my opinion boring" chicken dishes but the pudding dragged me in and I wasnt disappointed All in all a good spot

I had seen this place quite often and noticed it had won awards so popped in to try it out. We tried firstly last Saturday and when we walked in the door, we were left waiting and hanging around looking at the wait staff rushing around the place. It was only because we went to sit down that somebody told us we have to wait....So we waited for 10 mins without being offered a drink...and left. But came back again Monday as i wanted to give place a chance, again left waiting but eventually seated. Food was delicious, goats cheese with raspberry and beetroot...devine...then we had chicken in bacon with black pudding for mains. Also lovely and the cocktails were great. Nice decor, clean toilets but some service issues. Wait staff forgot our water, then forgot our wine...but i dont think its their fault...they just need extra staff and sectiosn to be given to each so ye dont have all 3 asking if everythings ok. Might be back....just to see if they tighten things up!

The place was quite busy for a thursday evening and we were seated in the room at the back which is nicely decorated but the tables are very close together. My girlfriend and I felt as though we were at a speed-dating event and would be switching with the couple next to us after a few minutes! There seemed to be at least 3 waiting staff serving all the tables and we were served by all of them, which led to us being asked if everything was alright quite a few times. I had a blue cheese tart but the tart part was just a thin slab of pastry and felt insubstantial, even for a starter. My main was loin of pork served with spinach and pureed potatoes (they seemed pureed and put me in mind of baby-food) and was pretty bland. I can't remember what my girlfriend had but she wasn't impressed either. We shared a rhubarb jelly with ice-cream and both agreed that it was the highlight but that wasn't hard. I'm mystified that this place has won the awards it has.

I bought some city deal vouchers and for just €13 I could have a yummy cocktail and main course. And i'd heard so many nice things about The Exchequer I thought sure why not?!?!? The pub itself is very cosy yet quite modern. The day I visited the restaurant area was Jammed full over well dressed women, enjoying lunch and cackling away to their hears content. So in short...a nice place for a girly lunch. The food was decent too. As was the delicious cocktail of the day, I could have drank 10 of them. for starters i had the fennel soup which was served with a chunk of thickly cut brown bread. Tasty indeed but I wouldn't rave about it. I then had the steak sandwich for dinner which was served with a delightfully fun "cone" of fries and for a side I had a tasty bowl of champ. Far too much food for one woman to eat but I gave it my best go! My mum had lamb, that was served with a dollop of creme frais and a vegetable sauce of some kind. She RAVED about it. In short the Exchequer is a decent eatery with pleasant staff and a lovely interior. Worth a visit.

Initially it seemed the evening was going to turn out into a disaster as they forgot completely about our reservation and it looked as if there was going to be no more room for us. However after some improvising the manager quickly arranged us a spot. Our initial disappointment was quickly overcome by some great outstanding service and delicious food. Their home cocktail is magical! My steak was truly tender, juicy, and extremely delicious. Compliments to the chef! Overall it turned out to be a very pleasant experience for outstanding value for money. I would strongly recommend this place if you are looking for a high-quality affordable dining experience in an easygoing environment. We will definitely come back!

As starter, we shared a platter of bread which was nice and a good introduction to our mains: my rack of pork was indeed succulent and fulfilling, her risotto tasty maybe a bit too much on the creamy side but overall very pleasant. For dessert I chose the pannacotta which was honest and rich in flavour. Her trifle probably a better choice than mine though. To sum up, nice convenient location for a casual dinner with good food and drink selection. As they say, we will be back :-)Maybe for Sunday lunch with a group of people in order to try the Sunday roast special offer.

Have been here a number of times now for various occasions and each visit has been great. The food is amazing, great value and really good quality - have had the beef which was good to perfection with a really yummy red wine jus. The cheese & meats board was demolished on another visit. The cocktails are really good especially the Loop the Loop one. Just find is a really good option whether you're looking for a quick bite, a bigger meal or cocktails on a saturday night out. The staff has always been very friendly and efficient and there's a really good vibe in the place. Will be back for sure.

Visited here for dinner last week and for lunch again this week. Really nice place with a great atmosphere. The staff are very pleasant and welcoming, sometimes theyre a bit too rushed but its a busy place so you can forgive them that! The food is amazing, although it would want to be given that they won the best gastropub award. Try the steak sandwich and the fish specials....very tasty!!

I found the look of the pub great and teh atmousphere was lovely it had all started so well. The service was terrible, my wife was the only person at the bar when the barman came over then he proceded to serve his friends and have a chat with another waitor while she waited. then when she asked him about the wines a list was nearly thrown at her and not clearly exsplained about wines by the bottle/glass. It could have been the best service ever after this but it didnt matter. As I found the place quite exspensive for bottled beer the service neede to be great. I was very dissapointed. I have heard many great accounts of great service here but it needs to be all the time.

Visited here for lunch recently and was amazed at how bad the food was. I had been here several times before so this was unusual. I had the steak sandwich which contained about half the amount of steak I was expecting. The bit that was there was overcooked, burned and rubbery. When I complained I was told that yeah the waiter agreed and didnt think it was great when he was taking it out, but didnt want to argue with the chef. what a joke!- a place where they are more concerned about what the chef thinks then the customer! They did take my meal off the bill, which because I couldn't eat it, it was the least they could do. They didn't charge for my partners lunch either. But they had ruined our lunch out so not much compensation there! So neeless to say wont be back.

Had a delicious and very reasonably priced dinner here on Saturday. The portions are not huge, but if you're having three courses, it’s perfect. The chocolate platter to share was a sumptuous end to a lovely meal.

Visited The Exchequer last week, not for the first time, and as before it was an enjoyable experience. There was five of us in the group, all happy with the food, the highlight of which was the chocolate platter which I would recommend. My main was steak, asked for it rare and it came out between rare and medium which is good for anywhere in Ireland. Value wise The Exchequer is great, and the service is always friendly. The choice of beers is quite good as well :).

We too booked The Exchequer after reading that it was awarded best Gastro pub. We arrived late and our table had been given away but the very professional waitress found a table for us. Our waitress described the specials as she gave us the menus. My husband had the butternut squash soup and I had the chowder which was very tasty. For mains I had the red onion tart which is a starter option with champ and my husband had the cod which was one of the specials. I could not fault the presentation of both, especially the cod with the citrus salad. We ordered a side of celeriac which was heavenly. The waitress was friendly and efficient. We will be definitely be returning.

Just had Sunday Roast here with five friends and oh boy this place is a little jem. Beef roast was as succulent as can be and cooked to perfection (medium rare). Stuffing was full of flavour and celeriac mash along with veg were done to perfection. To top this off a full roast for three persons with a bottle of good wine (Vina Alta) for 39.95 euros. It is rare to find such value coupled with excellent fare. Well recommended.

We went to the Exchequer to take advantage of a menupages voucher, however the menu wouldn't really appeal to me, the main courses are quite unusual with not really any basic dishes, apart from a salad. My friends weren't overly impressed with the main courses either so we got a starter & portion of chips instead. I had the duck salad which was very tasty, the egg on top definitely added to it. The beef salad was lovely but quite sparce, also there is very little horseradish sauce given with it.The cockles and mussels got a good reaction. I do have to mention the chocolate board that we had as desert, it was delicious. The service was great but I wouldn't go back there to eat again.

We decided to try the Exchequer for one of our regular get togethers from work having heard a lot of good feedback. There is quite a nice little bar upfront and the restaurant area though small has a good atmosphere. I opted for the fish and chips which coming with a pint as a special was good value. The fish was also very nicely presented and quite different from the usual. Service was very efficient and with a smile. Will definitely be returning.

Eat here on Saturday evening after seeing it won the award for best gastro pub. The food certainly lived up to expectations in the pub grub stakes. I had the duck salad to start with, which was very tasty and served with a poached egg. My boyfriend had the cashel blue cheese start which he loved and the presentation was great. I then had the steak, which was nice but slightly fatty and he had the ling fingers which he also loved. My reservations would be that it is slightly pricey for pub grub with an increase of a few euros between the same thing on the lunch and dinner menu. Also we would love to go back but the menu could do with more options.

We went to the Exchequer after seeing it won a restaurant award for best gastropub. The whole experience was very positive. I had the ling fingers and my boyfriend had the steak sandwich, which was cooked perfectly and not at all tough, which I have often experienced with the steak sandwiches in other restaurants. The manager himself was taking the orders and is very efficient and pleasant. For example, when my boyfriend thought he had forgotten his laser card the manager said it would be ok for us to call back later with the money(we found the card in the end). The atmosphere is great, with some booths that would be perfect for a group. Great selection of beers and wines. Only problem was the food was a bit slow in coming out-as it was lunch we expected it to be quicker and I was pushed for time with having to get back for work. I cant wait for go back for dinner and drinks.

After a trawl around town looking for somewhere with an interesting menu, and decent prices, we finally came across this place. I was surprised to see plenty of variety on offer, and definitely very reasonable prices too. We had an Irish cheese and meatboard to start - this was superb. The quality of everything was really great, and it was well tasty too. A nice bottle of their Rioja went well with it. After that, the Ling looked great, and was very interesting, and we also had a "Rack of Pork" which was disappointingly small but admittedly very tasty. It just wasn't a rack, like the lamb type, more a chop. Dessert was trifle of the day which was beautifully presented and delicious; and a type of creme brulee thing which also went down well. Overall this is a great spot for something slightly different. The food is excellent and not expensive. Only downside for me is the portion size. Service was actually excellent - in fact it was faster than we needed! We had to send the waitress off a couple of times before ordering as we were so slow looking through the menu. Would return for sure!

Dashed in here for a bite before Shakespeare in Front Square and were well looked after. We didn't really have enough time, and they don't like to be rushed, but the food was good and the prices a bargain, especially with the bottle of free house wine, thanks to menupages. The chowder was excellent and the ling fingers and chips tasted almost as good as it looked. She got a lot of rocket her barley risotto and pronounced herself content. Popular spot. They were turning away diners away before 7pm on a Thursday.

We visited the Exchequer on a quiet Monday night to cash in our Free Voucher- the bottle of house wine was very nice- thank you Menupages! The food was great. My Ling fingers and Chips were quite delicious- a posh take on an old favourite and wonderfully done. The mushy pea accompaniment was particularly nice! My two fellow diners had rib of beef and rib of pork respectively. Both enjoyed the dishes and all our plates were clean. For dessert we shared the Chocolate platter, which was possibly the nicest dessert I've ever had... yum yum yum. Only downside was the service- we had a very nice friendly waitress, but with only one other party in the place, hard to understand why our mains took almost 45 mins to come out. Too long a wait for three hungry customers.

We (a hungry group of 6 lads) went to the Exchequer last night for some beers and grub and left very impressed and eager to return. The premises have been nicely refurbished from the short-lived La Vie days. Its now a bar-slash restaurant and a very successful one too as it rarely seems to be less than jammed anytime I walk by. The bar stocks a nice selection of beers and the barman was happy to indulge my pretending to know about beer. Choosing our food turned out to be very difficult as everything sounds delicious but I eventually settled on crispy duck salad with a poached duck egg to start and was more than happy with my choice. Portion sizes were huge too, one of us opted for bread and oil to start and ended up with just about a whole loaf! Main of pork with crackling and celeriac mash was also a winner. Desserts let the side down however. My olive oil and pistachio cake was tasty but the serving was really really tiny and a friend's two measly donuts looked quite lonely on their plate. I wouldn't hesitate to go back though. Next time I might just skip dessert.

Went for lunch here two weeks ago. The place was quite but understandably so early on a saturday. My friend and i both had the soup and sandwich which was absolutely perfect. Sandwich was fresh with some tasty different ingredients. The only fault i have is that a found the soup & sambo combo at €9 very dear considering the close by competition. I would be hesitant to walk past a nearby restaurant when there is such a difference in the price and the food is arguably the same. I think this is an issue that should be addressed, but this aside defo worth visiting for the food quality.

Great atmosphere and music, with nice selection of food. We were a large group and the service was very slow. Also the side portions were tiny, literally 2 small potatoes sliced in 2! Our complaint was dealt with rapidly. I would try it again as a much smaller group and leave final judgement until then.

Went here for a late lunch with a large group this weekend. We were told we would only have the table for an hour and a half despite having booked it. However managed a nice reasonably leisurely lunch. Had the steak sandwich myself...although technically not a sandwich this was absolutely divine! Chips were really tasty. Everyone very happy with the food. We also had desserts - mine the chocolate mousse. Very nice..rich but a nice small portion that was more than enough, served with raspberry sorbet. Those who had ordered the crumble were more than happy with their choice. Will definitely be back, and nice friendly staff who didnt rush us despite going over the hour and a half.

Amazing cocktails and food once again. It's a pleasure to bring people to this restaurant as the food is good and the staff attentive even on a busy Saturday evening. I look forward to coming back for the Sunday roast soon!

I heard good things about this restaurant so we decided to check it out for ourselves. we were the first ones to arrive for dinner at 5pm, but the restaurant did fill up later in the evening and had a nice relaxed atmosphere. Our waitress was lovely, very chatty and attentive. We chose very well with the food too. I had the chowder to start and my boyfriend had the haddok and leek pie - both were delicious. I had the fish special of the day (gunnard with baby potatoes and a red pepper and tomato sauce) and my boyfriend had the venison pie. we had coffee and shared the bramley apple pie with brown bread icecream, really different. the food was very affordable and there's a good wine list and range of bottled beers. this was a lovely spot and it was a really great meal. I'd definitely go back for the chowder and the haddock bake, both were lovley.

Ate there last night. Nice menu, seasonal food. Was quite quiet but it would comfortable even if was busy because of the way it's laid out. The food was tasty and very reasonable but the portions were tiny. Teeny tiny. Though I guess that depends on your selection someone else I know was there at another table today and he said he was stuffed after his meal, but myself and my friend thought every course we got was pretty skimpy. potted crab to start that was small enough as it was but there was a lot of carrot through the crab as a filler. The barley rissotto was really nice though, and beet and goat's cheese salad was tasty, again it felt more like a starter portion. Very interesting dessert menu. Will definitely be back but will have to check out the plates around me before I order.

i've been here a few times I had the duck salad well made and promptly served and the cheese and charcuterie board - cheese and meats great and the fig puree that comes with it is devine although best suited to stronger cheeses but carrs water biscuits take from it that's my only criticism. The staff are consistently friendly and obliging and if they keep that up along with their intelligent wine list they will go a long way!!

I cannot understand the hype about this place. It was my second visit last week, and to be honest, despite nice decor, I just don't think it's worth the money, and there are far more places with better value, and better food. I had the foie gras to start. For nearly nine euro, I felt pretty hard done by. One small piece of bread with the foie gras (which was thinly sliced) was a joke. I went for the fish and chips for the main, which came smothered in hollandaise sauce (not mentioned on the menu - to be honest, I've never experienced this before; it always comes on the side). Again, a tiny portion of fish and a handful of chips in a little bucket. Again, for around 15 quid, hard done by. So being still hungry, I went for the apple crumble for desert, and guess what? I wasn't an apple crumble. It was three slices of apple on a ring of filo pastry! Never, ever again. Far better value restaurants doing what the exchequer is trying to do, but failing badly.
Response:
i'm actually quite a fan of this place and by the way it was tartar sauce with the fish, and im pretty sure there's no apple crumble on the menu - theres apple tart or a berry crumble.Unless it was a special on the day.

I have eathen in The Exchequer a few times now and it has always been an enjoyable experience. The day before Christmas Eve two friends and I had lunch in the dining room, there was a lovley buzz around the place, we had the Venison pie, Beetroot and Goats Cheese salad and the Ling Fingers. THE Ling was amazing, it is a great sized portion served with pea puree and tatare sauce, perfect batter very crisp, flavoursome puree.......it was really delicious. The pie was dense with Venison and was really well flavoured. The goats cheese salad is served with beetroot and walnut and prune relish, all elements of the salad are well balanced and work really well together. On another occasion four of us had dinner, the potted crab I had theat night was amazing, the crab was rich and creamt, served with brown bread. Another major highlight was the steamed cookles and mussels, a hugh serving with beautiful flavours. We shared with Chocolate plate which was amazing, it contains chocolate tart, fondant, white chocolate moose and chocolate ice-cream. It hit all the right notes ofr me, the tart was rich and a lovely soft'ish contistency! The moose lightened the plate and was not too sweet like some white choco. desserts can be. Again the ice-cream had a lovely rich chocolate flavour. We also had some cocktails to finish up, seriously the best cocktails in town, the Blush is amazing.

We ate here as part of a group of 20 to celebrate a birthday. The space we were given was very warm and welcoming and nicely laid out, all had plenty of room to move. The food was good and the waitresses made sure every course got to every diner at the same time. Will definately return at a less hectic time to sample the full menu.

I had been away since my visit, but i had to let it be said that my experience in this wonderfull addition to the Dublin Eatery and Bar scene was one of great delight! On finding out that someone had been brave enough to open a Gastro Pub during Irelands current economic climate we had to pay a visit to check out what was on offer. My self and my partner started by having a breif walk around the venu checking it out, Beautifully well designed funky place, Was very busy(Good Sign). We ended up sitting at the smaller of the two bars, where we were warmly greated by a bartender, Daragh. We had a look at the wine and beer menu and the cocktail list, from which we decided to have a cocktail, we asked for a recomendation and did we get one, his expertise was obvious, he made a querie into our tastes and away he went. I had a Pear Punch, a mix of vodka, amaretto, pear juice, lime and clove syrup and malbec red wine float. What a combination, what a drink! My partner was made a Loop de Loop it actually tasted like the ice lolly chocolate and all. My Wife was very impressed it took her back to her childhood. I took a copy of the menu to try to make some at home. With us getting off to such a good start we moved on to the food. As the night was getting on we dived straight into main courses. Fantastic is all i can say, steak for me, pork belly for herself beautifully cooked, tasty all round great. All being washed down with a great bottle of red wine and follwed with a marvel to man, a chocolate platter to share, recomended by the same bartender. who we later told by the owner who checked in on us(nice touch, makes the customer feel important) was the head bartender. The waitress was also very helpfull, very friendly and we were not waiting on anything particularly long. Had a great nite, service was great, value for money was good, will be back! Good job to all Involved!!

I ate here with 5 others as part of a birthday celebration. The weather was awful and it was the night before New Years eve so it was unsurprisingly pretty quiet. We'd a nice booth for 6, though unfortunately there was a terrible draught at our table leaving half of us cold. All were happy with their meal though I found mine disappointing - the daily special of monktail which was pretty bland and boring. My shared starter of a charcuterie and cheese board was very good and a huge portion. I also tasted the ling fingers and rib steak which were both very good, I think I just made the wrong choice of main. The service was ok, the waitress could've done with smiling but the food all came out right and in good time. Overall, it was ok but doubt I'd be back.

Visited the restaurant last night to celebrate a friends birthday and I was very impressed with all aspects of the Exchequer. Not really a massive selection for the veggie to be honest, but that does tend to be the norm in most restaurants! The mushrooms on toast deserve a special mention they were really very good and I would have had a double portion for a main meal if given the option! My rating for service would be a little lower if not for the excellent host that really went out of his way to make us feel valued diners, when we entered the restaurant he steered us in the right direction at once, and towards the end of the meal he told us to relax and not to worry about the giving the table back, whilst delivering a lovely dessert platter with candles to the birthday girl, its fair to say he went the extra mile.

Gerat new addition to the city cntr. The interiors are nicely done and a great improvement on what was there previously. More light and mood. Came for Sunday Brunch before heading out to finish Christmas shopping. We had poached eggs with spinach which were good and went well with the bloody Mary. Will definately have to visit in the evening where I assume it will be full

I ate here Saturday night last with a couple of friends. We had another restaurant booked in the city centre but changed our minds at the last minute because of all the great talk we had heard about the place. And I’m delighted to say that we weren’t disappointed. The place was buzzing when we arrived with a great vibe and uplifting atmosphere. I was immediately impressed by its funky refurb and felt more like I was in a downtown Manhattan bar and restaurant. From the moment we arrived the service was friendly and attentive. We started with cocktails: I had a delicious pomegranate and ginger martini and my friends had a mojito and caprina, both claiming they were the best they had ever had. We decided to go straight to mains as it was nearing 10pm. I had a delicious beetroot and goats cheese salad, the base of which was made up from a particularly lovely selection of lettuce leaves dressed in a tasty walnut and prune relish. My fellow diners had the braised lamb (described as very succulent and flavoursome) and fish and chips (battered in the tasty Hilden Belfast Blond beer) and again were delighted with their choices. We couldn’t resist the chocolate platter for dessert. It’s a great sharing afters if there are a few of you in the group. We were a little greedy and tried the apple tart and butterscotch sauce too, with both desserts going down a treat. We had a couple of bottles of a beautiful La Emperatriz Rioja which was reasonably priced at €25. There were lots of other lovely choices on the list starting from €19. Overall I can happily report that my first experience at The Exchequer was a very memorable one and we all agreed we would be back in the very near future to give their brunch menu a try. It’s definitely the type of place where you could spend a long lazy afternoon with a group of friends. As we were leaving the music was pumping up by their resident DJ and I couldn’t help thinking that The Exchequer really has something to offer everyone. Looking forward to my next visit already.

Popped in for lunch today, Thursday. Excellent service, everyone nice and helpful. Loved the decor. We both got ended up going for steak sandwich which was cooked perfectly medium rare, and melted in the mouth. Gorgeous chips, very well presented. Was in a hurry, got served, ate, and paid in 30 minutes. Will definitely be returning very soon.

A friend & I went there for lunch on a Wednesday. I had the Hot pot and it was very tasty but a little on the small side. My friend had the sausage & mash and he thought was gorgeous. The service was very good the barman was very friendly explaining the specials ect... The bill was slightly over priced but the quality made up for it. Would like to go back to try other dishes and hope the Gastropub scene takes off.

We were a party of 3 on a wed night, nice enough room, I tought it was very well broken up out the back to make it feel quite intimate. Our food was good to average, potted crab tasted a bit odd had some carrot or something in it, made it taste like coleslaw? duck salad with poached duck egg was really good, chowder was very bland. Mains brasied lamb was very nice, fish & chips were excellent but venison pie was bland again & pastry was soggy. have to give chocolate plate for dessert full marks. service was very attentive & friendly but there were some delays between courses when it was quiet enough that night. I hope it is successful for them as it seems to have its heart in the right place.

Dropped in for a bite to eat on Saturday evening having read the positive reviews here on menupages. I left wondering was I in the same place that everyone else went to? The renovation is very nice and the whole place looks stylish. As with so many new ventures though, it seems that all of the focus went into the style and the food and service were a bit of an afterthought. Oxtail soup sounded good on a cold night but was thin and lacked any savoury flavour. Skate wing was the special and was served with sweet potato and spinach. What arrived a very small piece of skate on top of mushy pile of what looked ( and tasted) like baby food. At €13.95 it was poor value for money. The kindest thing to say about the service was that staff were smiley. Other than that they were MIA and it was very difficult to attract attention. We planned on having a dessert and coffee but after 20 minutes with empty plates in front of us, we went to the bar to pay and left. Nobody even noticed. If they have any hope of becoming a food destination, they need to focus on the food and service asap because at the moment, it is way short of the mark.

Nice spot, terrific service, inventive food. We popped along last night as we'd seen the Exchequer's nibbles menu contribution in The Library Bar. There's a mixture of spaces, from a tight bar, to looser sofas, a small block of tables, semi-enclosed booths, and high stools. The decor's stylish without being distracting, though I found the music a little tepid. Service is superb - both the manager and waitstaff were friendly, fun, responsive, and genuinely interested in our experience, and will be a big part of why we return. And what an experience! Our starters (the potted crab and the pâté) were pleasant, if a little underwhelming. The mains (my venison pie, her chicken wrapped in bacon) were impressively savory, with bunches of flavor and inventiveness. Desserts (pistachio cake and ice-cream, and a chocolate mousse) were excellent. All that and the beer selection is good - Belfast Blonde in particular is a gorgeous, multi-layered beer that went well with our food.

Was here last week for the first time, was impressed with the renovation looks cool and stylish. Decided to have some food, cant really judge on atmosphere as I was basically the only person I suppose you can expect this as its only open. Had soup which was supposed to be served with bread but wasnt followed by a steak sandwich which was well cooked but a little cold and a lovely jelly and ice cream for dessert. Service was friendly I think this will improve as it has all the ingredients neeeded for success. Looking forward to trying again and im sure all minor issues will be ironed out. I also note the "first-timer" reviews trend of new restaurants is growing!

Myself and a friend stumbled accross the Exchequer on Saturday evening after doing some shopping in town, its amazing because i walk by this area many times during the week and cant really remember what was here before, from the outside it looks so inviting and its a beautiful addition to the street. We decided to head in for a drink and ended up staying for most of the night, we got that comfy! The atmosphere was lovely, with some nice lounge music early (reminiscent of my trip to the Budda Bar in Paris a few years back!!) then later some nice funky music that had me wishing i'd brought my dancing shoes. The service was excellent and the prices fantastic, especially at a time when everyone is watching what they spend, the feeling of value for money was just fantastic, no ripp off's here. We did'nt go with starters and decided on just a main course each and we shared dessert. I had the chargrilled rib of beef, champ, roasted shallot and red wine jus and it was soo tasty, the beef was cooked to perfection!. My friend had the seared breast of chicken wrapped in ballon farm bacon with traditional black pudding, creamed potato and red wine sauce, and she was in heaven!! We are supposed to be watching our figures (christmas coming up and all that!!) but the chocolate platter, which had, get this, chocolate tart, chocolate fondant, white chocolate mousse and organic chocolate truffle ice cream, was too much of a temptation and boy it did not dissappoint, one of the best desserts i've ever had, anywhere!! all in all we are definatley going back, most likely this weekend :) and I'm really looking forward to dropping in over the christmas shopping period to kick back and relax and perhaps indulge in some more fine food! (and the odd mojito or two) Top Marks to the owners.. i wish them all the best, good to see People getting out there and putting the Hard work in, because it shows!

Best Cocktails in the city!!!! I also had an amazing meal with some friends here on Sat night. There was a great selection on the menu. I'd be able to come back a good few times and order different things every time to get through all the items i enjoy to eat on the menu. We really were spoiled for choice. Everyone really enjoyed the food. The staff were efficient, friendly and helpful. The cocktails were AMAZING! Best I've had in Dublin, we stayed for drinks after dinner and the atmosphere is great, really cool surroundings. It's a late bar as well which is great as I don't know any late bars in the area that do such fantastic cocktails. I believe DJ's will be playing there from next w/end. Will definitely be back. All in all a great night out, highly recommend The Exchequer. Wish the new owners the best of luck

Myself and a friend ate here on Sunday evening. at around 7pm. I went for the Sunday roast (stuffed pork) and he went for the hake, both of which were specials for the day. I was very impressed both by the portion I received, and the quality. The pork was moist, and the stuffing, mash, parsnips and carrots were all beautifully cooked. And the gravy was amazing! The hake was nice and light, and was accompanied by some fresh seasonal veg. For a place that is only open for a week, the service was great and the food spot on. We were heading to a gig later, and the location of the place was ideal. At only €13 or so per main course, I'll definitely be heading back! P

I went to The Exchequer on Saturday night last. I don't remember the last time I enjoyed a meal from start to finish so much. I wanted to sample everything on the menu...again, a rare experience. We had potted crab, which I do associate with summer, however it was delicious. A foie gras parfait which was perfect, with a little slice of toasted brioche and some spiced apple chutney. A green salad of shredded crispy duck with a perfectly poached duck egg, and shavings of Desmond Cheese. however there was also a tart of Smoked Haddock which seemed like it came from a different restaurant....it wasn't in the same league at all. The main courses were ALL delicious and Perfectly executed, the chef is clearly technically super-skilled, the rolled pork belly stuffed with Black Pudding a case in point, and this looked beautiful, as well as tasted perfectly. I had braised neck lamb, had a wee bit too much fat, it could have been trimmed better, but still, it was so so tasty. Then deserts, oh my god. The chocolate platter for 2 is a dream and the Pistachio and Olive Oil cake will make people return to this place time and time again....The Exechequer has made new friends...... Great Value too, Good wine list and super cocktails, I had a Loop the Loop, and I swear they're melting down the lollys behind the counter and lobbing booze in....the perfect taste of nostalgia....drinks that make you smile can't be beaten.....I hope this place remains as good as it is.....

I was here for the first time last week .. love the decor, the gorgeous comfy leather chesterfield sofas, the menus, the food and the service! Had a lovely glass of prosecco for only €6.50 .. my friends had glasses of wine for €6 which were really generous in size. We tried three of the starters and all were generous sizes, home made, tasty and well presented. As it is only very new it wasn't busy at the time but didn't feel "empty" at all .. I think this is going to be a great destination for food and drinks, meeting up with friends, dates or a nice meal out with a gang. I wish the two owners the very best of luck and am delighted to see such a business opening :-)
