Went in last week for a drink and didn't know what to have so went up to the bar to have a look and decide. On the board behind the bar they had Caipirinha advertised for €5 on special so I decided I'd go for that and sat down. My friend ordered it for me but unfortunately when it came time to pay one of the very "cool" bar men went up and wiped it off the board and said "there are no cocktail specials tonight". Talk about false advertising. Really was it worth it to them to be so ignorant about it? Surely it's their fault if they forget to change pricing not mine. Won't be going back and will be spreading the word. Hope it was worth them saving €4.

They have stopped doing pies! Nooooo!! And they don't do them in their sister restaurant. Another good pie place in Dublin bites the dust. RIP

Love, love love the South William! Day or night this is always a great spot to go to, from the wine list, to the great pies, to the great music, there aren't many pubs as cool as this in Dublin in my opinion!

The south william is now operating as a cafe/bar during the day, which works really well with their new menu. I spent the afternoon there with a friend and it was really laid back. they've got lots of cakes and cupcakes from Lolly & cooks and a nice bar food menu. They had two soup options on saturday, mushroom or spicy chickpea. I went for the chickpea soup and it was really good. My friend tried the thai curry, which she liked (but it's a little bit unusual, served with noodles instead of rice). I love this place as a bar at night time, but think i'll be going back more often for coffee. the staff are so laid back and didn't rush us at all. Great music too!

Went here last Sunday evening for a light meal. They have a good selection of casseroles, quiches and salads and most meals are around ten euro. I ordered the ham and cheese quiche with side salad. I found the quiche overwhelmingly buttery but this might be to someone else's taste as my other half had no complaint. Service somewhat lax but as it is a bar-cum-restaurant the general consenus seems to be that you order at the bar. Overall not a bad culinary experience.

Popped in here on a Saturday afternoon for a glass of wine and some food. Ordered the chicken salad not expecting much but it was really lovely. Extremely filling with tasty accompaniments and plenty of bread. Very satisfying and on par with any of the delicious pies!

Dropped in recently as a friend recommended the pies. I had the beef shin and Guinness, which was excellent. A generous dollop of mash and carrot/parsnip (€1 per portion) finished it off nicely. I was full afterwards. I'd recommend the food here over other establishments down the street. Drinks aren't too pricey by Dublin standards - but hardly great value. The mojitos (€10) are excellent. You're expected to order food and drink at the bar but that's no great hardship. They had DJs from about 7pm on Sunday. The selection got better as the night went on.

Great pies, but the atmosphere and staff were a let down. There were not many customers there when we visited, but 3 staff stood at the bar looking at us for 5-10 minutes when we were obviously ready to order, and would not come over. I had to go to the bar to them to order the 4 pies, 4 sides and 4 drinks for our table. I would probably return for the pies, but won't be in any great rush.

This probably is the wrong place to post this as i have been in the south william on numerous occasions and always enjoyed the atmosphere and the pies. I was in there on saturday night the atmosphere was great and it was packed, my night took a turn for the worse when I visited the toilets the gents cubicle was blocked the water was off and I couldnt wash my hands. My girlfriend described the scene in the ladies with toilets overflowing, ive spoken to people who say its always happening due to poor plumbing/pipework? I actually felt like getting sick with the thought of it, luckily no health inspectors work at 12 o clock at night. I like the bar and the food but third world quality hygiene no thanks

I love this place. It's right in the middle of Dublin's cool Wegra district (WEst of GRAfton St), and one of Dublin's gems. There's a good atmosphere in the bar - it's laid back and relaxed, and seems as though there's a little community there. The food is top-notch. So far I've sampled four of the pies, and each one is delicious. I reccommend the venison and cranberry sauce pie - mouthwatering. Service is average. You have to go up to the bar to order - something I didn't realise at first. Despite that, the staff are friendly and chatty, and go out of their way to be helpful. It's a little pricey, at €9 per pie, but I consider going here a little luxury - and not one that you feel guilty about afterwards! Wholely reccommended, and I will be back again and again.

Good place to come for pies, though they are overpriced to me. Still its a nice enough place. Im not sure that I would come back here though. The atmosphere is not great and the staff seemed kinda bored to be there.

They do pies at night. They're between €7 and €10. If you're hunting for a pub that does nice food, this is a good spot. Cool bar, nice people, and tasty pies. You can't say no to that, can ya?

I was disappointed with our visit to South William. We'd heard great things about the pies so went in for lunch on Saturday, but after waiting a whole hour for our food to arrive and paying €9 per very average pie, I'd have to say I won't be going back again. The guy on the bar did apologise once for the wait and told us that "yer man in the kitchen was after messing up" which was why we waited such a ridiculously long time. Because the place is a bar and is busy at night time, there was the left over smell of stale beer in the air which wasn't nice either.

First time in South William a couple of weeks ago. The decor is pretty cool and staff very welcoming. As for the pies....gorgeous! My wife is vegeterian (restaurants nightmare!)and only wanted a quick snack, she enjoyed it as much as i did. Definitely a pie fan and will be back!

The Pies are excellent, the service is as good. If you like pies at all you have to go! The only criticism is that the pies are a bit too small and there is no choice of accompaniment, you can only get a side salad! Also if you fancy cocktails they do some of the best in Dublin here. Really worth a visit and the Guinness pie is gorgeous.

The best thing about this place is that it's different to everywhere else in Dublin. It's totally laid back and doesn't care if you don't like it. Of course, nobody could possibly not enjoy it's funky music, murals and random clientele. Love it after work for a casual drink or for a night out. Definitely check it out! Pies are all very original in their recipes so it's definitely worth a visit. For those not eating don't worry. There is no lingering food smell so each person can enjoy their own individual take on this place eg drinks or eats!

Lovely spot for a relaxed bite to eat after work. We had had the beef and the bacon/cabbage pies, both really nice. Good value at a tenner. The bar itself is pretty nice too, low-lit, excellent service, you can't go wrong. One minor point, they should offer a choice of salad, mash or pies not just salad. Just makes it a bit more traditional! That aside, all good.

I love this place. I've been here twice in the last few weeks and tried to go one Friday night - which was just silly of me as the pub was in full swing. The pies are just fantastic. I've had the wild venison and the chilli bean. Mmm. The pastry is lovely, the insides well cooked and very balanced. I love the salad they come with as well. Really simple fresh winter greens with a sharpish balsamic dressing. So simple, but heavenly and a great dinner for €9.

You only come to try one thing -the only thing on the menu - the pies! If you like pies, these are the best. There is a large choice of fillings, my favourite being the Lamb moussaka. Perfect for a bite to eat with a drink after work. Don't expect a restaurant experience, or table service, just good quality tasty pies. A better bar snack than a packet of peanuts!

I had lunch here the other Sunday, not one of the rainy ones! I'd been told about the pies, so me and my mates all ordered different ones. I went for the bacon and cabbage and I must say it was delicious!! My 2 mates had mixed remarks on theirs, not bad so much as indifferent!! I loved the place and plan to help other mates discover the place!! Top notch!!

The pies here are excellent, but I feel they're letting themselves down a bit with the very boring side salad. At 9 Euro a pop, you really should be getting a complete meal, not just a pie with a few leaves. Aside from the pies, there's really nothing special about this place - just another city bar. Decent selection of beers though.

Staff are sooooo rude, the guy behind the bar is always arrogant, I normally avoid this kind of service at all costs but the South William offers a superb night mostly. Pies are legendary. And possibly the friendliest bouncers in the world, not too much of a foodie write up but not much else can be said about the pies ;o

Had lunch there today. There were oven issues so we had to wait nearly an hour but when the pies came they were bloody good. Had the barman’s recommendation, which was the bacon and cabbage pie, excellent and would put any gastro pub to shame. When the oven is 100% well worth a visit.

A fantastic place to go for lunch barring one thing. The staff. They are not only unfriendly, but downright rude with severe superiority complexes, and give off the impression that you only deserve service (or in fact to live) if you are someone who will rescue them from this temporary hell and sponsor their art installation. That said, I have been back several times, because quite frankly they almost count as entertainment, and food is just that good. The pies are first of all, the perfect size. They are filling, but not uncomfortably so. The pastry is perfect, flaky without crumbling to pieces. The variety of fillings means there is a pie for everyone. I especially recommend the chilli bean, avocado and cheddar cheese, the mere thought of which makes me hungry.

I was just here for lunch with work and I have to review straight way. The list of pies is just right amount from Chicken & Mushroom, Bacon & Cabbage, Beetroot, Goats cheese & puy lentil, Guinness braised beef shin, Duck & Red cabbage, Chilli-bean, Avocado & Cheddar. They even have Apple Pie, which I’ll have to try next time. If you are going here for lunch be early, pies take 15minutes to cook, so when there are 6 of you and then 8 other customers there is going to be a delay which was annoying because your stuck for time, but worth the wait. I had the Lamb Moussaka, so good. They serve a nice mixed salad on the side. Definitely be back. Nice for after shopping.
