I have eaten at Peploes and the meal hadn't the wow factor of previous visits. My starter of Scallops & churiso wasn;t great - small on the scallops and too much churiso that drowned the scallops. Main was fine and to be fair - the dessert of Pana cotta was brillo.

I have been to Peploes several times for lunch and it has always been an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately I found things to be different recently. The waiting service had to be asked several times to bring water and bread and we had to wait almost ten minutes for butter. Not only this but the restaurant had less than 12 people eating at this point. The sauce that accompanied the Daube of beef for the main, I personally found to be sickeningly sweet and i didnt finish it. I chose not to have a dessert although one of my party said the orange and raspberry cheesecake was very nice. In my opinion Peploes has really gone downhill in both food and service, but it is still a nice spot in a great location for a saturday lunch, personally I think there are now far better restaurants along that street and I would head to one of them before Peploes again.

Went out with the girls for a catch up and we had a lovely night here. We were quickly shown to a table and all decided to have the early bird menu. 3 courses for €25.00 of good food - not bad at all. The portion size of each course was just right and we were quite full at the end of the meal. We all had the same starter of goat’s cheese but each had a different main with everyone happy with their selection. We have a lovely waiter who was efficient but not in your face so cant comment on other postings to this site. And we weren’t rushed out the door as soon as desert was done. Restaurant was quite full when we were leaving so the atmosphere was buzzing. Will be back and not necessarily just for the early bird.

We grabbed ourselves a last minute booking . We were lucky to get in by all means and enjoyed every minute. The food was superb, we'd a selection of starters between the six of us, crab salad, brie, scallops, scallops being the highlight. All mains were fantastic, particularly the John Dory. All seafood dishes were extremely fresh and tasty. The staff here are very friendly and informative. Desserts a little boring but we still ordered the chocolate cake. Great night, Thank you

I wouldn't say I am regular to Peploes but I have sure been there a lot of times and have always enjoyed a good meal. I find their interiors to be very comfortable and tastefully done. Monday was the first visit where I felt a little cheated by the menu- there was absolutely NO dish that actually jumped out at me. The other thing that disappointed me was that if one didn't know their wines, there was no information in the menu to help them decide- I know what I like but still like to be able to read about them. The service was excellent and in the end, we did all go for 2 courses and were full up but none of us came out raving as we would have in the past. Still a good enough meal but potentially overpriced for what it has to offer now.

Seemed like a nice place but the surly waiter that delivered an hour of poor and condescending service is all that lives in the memory. I'm sure with another waiter, I'd have written a different review altogether.

My boyfriend and I tried this place for the first time recently and we not particularly happy with our experience. Honestly, we were really surprised at how much impact a bad waiter can have on an evening. The food was good, and atmosphere was decent, but our waiter was surly and unfriendly. He seemed annoyed at us for not ordering more food (we just weren't hungry enough to have every course) and was very pushy. We won't be going back.

We went to Peploe’s on Saturday night. Despite of that the place was very busy the staff was very nice and helpful. They were polite but not too much into your face. We ordered food and starters arrived within 10 min. I was surprised how quick the food was server. I’m a slow eater and in lots of restaurants I have been feeling like I need to eat faster because I’ve been asked many times ‘if I finished yet ?’ It didn’t happen in Peploe’s. I could finish my food without being rushed. The food was divine, fresh and well cooked. Prices are a bit more expensive than other places. But it is well worth to pay for what they deliver

visited here for the 1st time with a group of friends. Place was very busy for a weekday. Staff were very friendly and polite. I had scallops to start with followed by Halibut. Both were very tasty indeed. Skipped on the desert but opted for the cheeseboard accompanied with a lovely glass of port. All in all everyone was very happy with their decision which ranged from fillet steak, fishpie and venison. Thought it was a bit pricey but would go back again for a special occasion!

The food was beautiful. Quantities perfect. An error was made in bringing 2 starters when only 1 was ordered. We decided not to mention same and keep both. The error was noticed by our waitress who immediately informed us not to worry, only 1 would appear on the bill The atmosphere was as good as you will get anywhere. This was one of the best meals we have eaten out in quite some time..

With a group of nine people on a Tuesday night and had a superb meal. Had been here before, but not for a while. From the moment we walked in the service was excellent. The place was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night in January, always a good sign. I had crabmeat ravioli to start, one of the specials. It was top class. Despite being a steak lover, I went for the Kilmore Quay Monkfish Pie for my main course. Best choice I have made in ages, it was easily the nicest fish pie I have ever had, would recommend it strongly. It was packed with lots of chunky white pieces of fresh monkfish and plenty of Dublin Bay prawns too. Topped with a thin layer of spring onion potato, breadcrumbs and cheese, it looked great too. Everyone wanted to try it, many did and all loved it. Shared a cheeseboard for desert, no regrets there either. Good selection and portions, and plenty for two people. Had a Sancerre with the two fish dishes and a Valpolicella with the cheese, both excellent, but don’t have details as they were ordered by someone else in the group. Everyone in the group was impressed, several steaks were served and they certainly looked excellent. Great food, great experience, probably still a bit pricey, but worth it for a treat. Will definitely be back.

Paid our first visit to Peploes yesterday for a late Sunday lunch at 3.30pm. Restaurant was a little quiet given the time of day but pleasant nonetheless. Staff were professsional and service good. We had 'Duck Liver Pate with cranberries and toasted brioche' and 'Brie in Filo with Pruneau D’Agen' as starters, 'Marrow Crusted Filet Mignon' and 'The Daily Fish' dish which happened to be Cod as main courses, and an Amaretto Creme Brulee and a Chocolate Fondant dish as deserts. All were lovely and could not be faulted. My only negative would be value for money, cost of a Sunday lunch was high even allowing for the quality of the food, but if this aspect is not an issue in choosing a restaurant, Peploes is definitely worth a visit.

This is based on 2 dining experiences at this fine dine eatery. First experience was first class, top notch quality, From food to service,A1, Waiter was attentive polite and effecient. Second experience was totally opposite. First annoying thing is if you r a walk-in guest you get to seat in particular area, both times, which looks a bit discarded but you can ignore this. I requested Vegetarian Rissotto as it was easily done on request last time but this time i got Prawn risotto,I checked with waiter he said he never heard vegetarian, he offered me a rissotto but said it has meat stock in it.Disappointed.I went for brie, Batter is nice and crispy but cheese is so runny, its like you will have to roll it on your folk to eat, wasn't impressed. faults were never acknowledged by the managers which is very important aspect of fine dining. When we sat down we asked for Dry Martini & waiter refused he thought we wanted a cocktail, rather we were just looking for a drink. Service was really downside this time, disappointed, and you see 2 managers just walking around rather they can be more customer needs orientated. When we were leaving we went to collect our jackets & again manager didnt knew which table we were sittin or there were no tickets so he has to ask us to come in cloak room to pick jackets,Really disappointed with such a well known fine dining place.Just to be busy is not the only think, Concentrate on customer satisfaction everyday folks.

Went to Peploes for a business dinner having previously been there with my wife. As per the previous occasion, the atmosphere and service were really good. The food was also good. We had a mixture of starters and mains and all were of a high standard. I had the french onion soup to start and then the rib eye and could have no complaints on that front. The only slight issue would be with pricing. While the steak was nice, EUR 29.95 for a rib eye is at the upper end of the scale.

Went here with a work group. Service was very good with attentive staff. The menu was extensive, i had a chicken salad starter and duck breast, which was gorgeous for the main. Many had the steak, all of which were perfectly cooked. This is an expensive restaurant but worth it if someone else is paying.

Went here with my hubby yesterday evening, we had the pre theatre menu, 25 Euro a head for 3 courses. I had the bruschetta and he had the gnocci, both delicious. I had fish for main, and he had chicken. Both were delicious and came with veg and mashed potato. Plenty of food. Hubby had the cheese to finish, said it was a little tasteless but I think that was the type of cheese. I had chocolate mousse, and it was the nicest I have ever had. Service was very good and nice atmosphere. Restaurant was full, and we had passed several emtpy restaurants on the way. Would highly recommend this restaurant, the food is fab. Definately visit again and the pre theatre menu is excellent value for money.

A fantastic restaurant. The service in this place is the best I've ever received in Dublin bar none! I started with the french onion soup and had the fillet steak as my main with a side of green beans. It was amazing. The wine was gorgeous and the waitress really attentive without being evasive and very friendly. Will definitely be going back soon! It is on the pricey side but you get what you pay for and worth going there for a special occassion!

I was there few years ago and had a very good memory, apart from the bill...but this time i was really disappointed.. we had a great seating and atmosphere was nice..we were proposed bread..tomato bread was nice but the soda bread was tasteless.. the waiter was polite but not thats nice.. the bordeaux cote du bourg was excellent.. i had the ravioli prawns and despite a very small quantity (5), this was far too salty.. dessert profiterole were only ok..i expected a much better quality food and a better service.. if i have to spend money on food in dublin, i would not go there..

Four of us ate here early on a Saturday evening. It was my first visit in three years. I noticed a definite change but cannot pinpoint whether it's me, the economy or Peploes itself. The restaurant was almost full at 7pm and there was a lively atmosphere. The menu was fine but quite limited and seemed to me to be focussed on very rich, creamy dishes. And perhaps that's it - it's not what I really desired that night! I had the tomato and mushroom bruschetta which was excellent. Unable to find something to my liking for mains, I was offered squash risotto, which was good. My guests had a variety of dishes from the filo brie with prunes which was very tasty to scallops and for mains all three had fish. Everything was eaten and there was even room for the crumble with ice cream or the chocolate dish. Still a good choice if you are looking for somehere upmarket.

On Wednesday my two friends and I had dinner at Peploes. I can honestly say from start to finish it was a marvelous evening. The atmposphere was lovely, one of my companions from the USA voted it the best meal he has eaten in Dublin. High praise indeed. For starters I had the crabmeat ravioli. Absolutely delicious, my friends had the Brie to share and loved it! For main course two of us had the Fish of the day, it was a bass fillet with seafood risotto. It was just gorgeous and cooked to perfection. Our Amercian friend choose the rib eye with a wicked sauce & was very happy indeed. Service and wine recommendations were spot on and we had a great night.

Beginning of the End? Had been a while since last was here - memories of buzzing atmosphere, good service and consistent decent food. What a disappointment!! Starter (filo brie with prunes) was good (hence the 1/2 point). Any good of that wiped away by completely awful mains. Wife's special was grilled plaice - nicely cooked with slightly crispy outside - but laid on soggy spinach and mismatching sauce. Bizarre twist of a dollop of seafood salad (updated version of a prawn cocktail) tastes did not go with the fish. Inedible. Mine was rack of lamb - what could go wrong? Who knew lambs carried that much jellyish fat? Service was OKish, but I don't think there was huge surprise at poor feedback - other tables seemed miffed / food slow also but can't speak for them. Was the usual chef on holidays for the bank holiday weekend? It was busy, but if this continues I proclaim this the beginning of the end for Peploes. I will not be going again.

i ordered filo brie to start, it arrived with a cold lump of brie in the centre, they took it away apologising, the replacement which arrived after the other 3 people had finished their starters, also had a cold lump in the centre (not quite as big)...the food in this resturant is expensive (260 for 4 people) and there can be no excuse for getting something wrong 2 times, the head chef should have personally come out to apologise, and if he (she) is not able to produce edible filo brie from the kitchen maybe its time to change. very disappointed, ruined the way if felt about the meal.

Food was reasonable but overpriced. Service was awful. I had not even taken my hand off an empty glass and it was taken straight away. We were asked 3 times in our first 10 minutes of arrival if we had chosed our wine. Aperitif's had not even arrived. We felt under pressure and rushed all the time. We were told we had to leave the table by 8 (We arrived at 6.15). We had our 3 courses and were gone by 7.30 so do not see why the staff acted they way they did. Restaurant less than half full at the time. I asked for the bill and had it within 15 seconds. I left cash on the tray and it was taken within 10 seconds! It was a pity as it could have been so much better.

Four of us ate here on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was buzzing. I had the Morteau sausage to start - nice but very salty. Same salt problem with the crab meat ravioli. I could not recommend it as there were a couple of pieces of crab shell in the filling and the pasta was rather rubbery. I tasted the cepes ravioli which was delicious and should have ordered that instead! Nice restaurant, good service but pricey.

Visted Peploes for the first time last night for a family birthday - there was a group of nine. The atmosphere in the great was lovely a great buzz around the place. We had a large table to the end of the restaurant which meant that even though other customers were around us it was private enough to have our celebration. The staff were very attentive all night. On the food front we all sampled different dishes - a number of us had the brie starter which was lovely, I had a steak for the main course and it was perfect. Dessert was the choclate fontant which was lovely - you cracked it open and out came all the warm choclate perfect! Overall a great night and definately worth going back again

Without doubt Peploes, is a wonderful place. We come at least once a month. My favourite dish is the Duck Breast, its always cooked medium rare for me - divine. Their wine list is fantastic too. Service is professional and friendly, it is a little more expensive but at the end of the day the quality, service and food is outstanding.

After a quick pre dinner drink in the Shelbourne, 4 of us headed to Peploes, we were greeted by a very pleasant girl and shown to our table. The place was busy and the atmosphere a very nice loud. I had the french onion soup, which as usual was delicious, followed by the Duck main courses which was also very good. We had a couple of bottles of wine from a big list. All of the party enjoyed their meals. It is a little expensive, but they also have some good set menu's. The service was fast, efficient and friendly - what more could you ask for. Overall a very nice evening in Peploes.

I ate in Peploe's last night with six friends. I have been many times before and never disappointed. The food last night was stunning, as agreed by all. Rather than have to change my starter choice of Veal Kidney's, due to an allergy, Chef offered to vary the dish to suit. Well done! My very seasonal main of Roast Loin of Venison with Red Cabbage, Fondant Potato and Fois Gras was truly remarkable. I was so well sated I couldn't manage dessert but, those who did, offered high paraise particularly for the chocolate offerings. As it was a birthday celebration a special dessert plate was produced which was a very nice touch. In essence, brilliant food with excellent attentive service and a great buzz.

I visited Peploes on a Friday night, we made our bookign for 18:15 for the pre-theatre menu. When we arrived the restaurant was full, people were even sitting at the bar waiting for tables, which I didn't expect at that early hour! We were seated promptly and our waiter was extremely friendly - if even a little over friendly - but we were a table of 7 women so I presume he was on the charm offensive.... The pre-theatre menu is great value at €25 per head but I found it to be quite boring, soup, pork belly or prawns brochette to start; chicken, cod or parmesan risotto for main and fruit crumble or mature cheddar for desert. All in all a nice meal, but I would have loved to have seen some more shelfish or something a bit more adventerous on the menu. Have to admit it is good value at the price though. My only gripe was that the waiter turned his charm off immediately the clock striked 20:00, when we had to vacate our table for waiting diners! Would highly recommend for the atmosphere alone.

Myself, the wife and the 3 year old went for an aniversary lunch in peploes on monday and were impressed by the entire experience. We were greeted by friendly staff who gave us the option where we wanted to sit. The lunch menu included a wide variety of choice which was great. We had impeccible fritto misto but a rather crude roast vegeatable bruschetta to start. For mains I had a fantastic parpadelle with monkfish and prawns in a saffron sauce. Delicious! My wife had the very nice Peploes fish cake. Staff were attentive and genuinely interested in our 3 year old which makes Peploes very family friendly (provided the kids are well behaved!). I hadent been to Peploes for as while but will return again soon for dinner. Lovely comfortable restaurant, friendly staff and great food at a fair price.

90 EURO overcharged and NO apology. I have gone to peploes dozens of times - I love it or should i say LOVED it. always a great buzz and the staff that attend tables are always so lovely. food is fantastic. However for a company night out we went last friday here. again, great food and a great christmas vibe. Bill arrived and there was 3 extra Chir royals and a bottle of wine on our bill - that we had not had.Bill total 590. My Business partner who saw this on the bill called the manger and showed it to him - it took two attemps to change this back to the right amount but we got no apology- nothing - just the bill changed and handed back to the correct amount. SHe felt that he made her feel that it was an inconvenience to do this. She called in in person to Peploes on Monday to say how dissapointed she was with this reaction and whatever manager was there, he took her name and number and said he would look into it....... its now thursday and no call yet. This is so unacceptable ......and a pity to be treated like this.

I visited this restaurant with a client and was not let down by its atmosphere. There is enough life in the place to allow you to carry out conversations happy in the knowledge that you are not being overheard by others. The service was professional and swift if a little impersonal - which is something a lot of pricier restaurants in Dublin suffer from. The food was good - I had the steak for my main course and it was enjoyable but not the tastiest steak I have ever eaten. Overall - this place has atmosphere in bucketloads. you could have a quiet intimate dinner and a group dinner and both times your experience would be enjoyable. Would the food be the best you have ever eaten - no. It would be good - great in some cases - but not the best. Would I return - probably. It has something that makes you want to return.

I love Bistro's and Peploes is one of my favourites. They have a great early menu. Its a professionally run place. The french onion soup and the beef are my favourites, followed by the crumble. I love it every time.

Booked a table for 2 for the pre theatre menu - 3 courses €25, great value. The service was very good and the food was even better!! I had the baked halloumi to start followed by the mushroom risotto. Didn't really have room for the dessert but did my best to finish apple and blackberry crumble - yum. Will definitely be back.

I eat in Peploes on a regular basis. I have to say I prefer lunch to dinner. We were a group of six who had dinner the other night and we were seated straight away. Everything seems a little rushed but in fairness the staff are very pleasant. The wine list is good if a little overpriced. There is very little on offer in the €20 - €30 range, which is not really good in the current climate. The starters were mixed - I had I really nice mushroon risotto. Two people had the Caesar Salad - dreadful was one comment and he other was that it was inedible - the salad leaves had wilted completely and there was far too much dressing on the salad. A Caesar Salad is not hard to make and the key is the the leaves are lightly coated with the dressing otherwise you get a limp mess. For the main course I had the steak, it was cooked correctly but it seems to be a continuing theme in this restaurant that there is always part of the meat that is inedible due to sinew. A good chef with butchery skills should easily be able to sort that out, to my mind it is laziness, a bit like leaving the veins in a prawn. My fellow eaters had the monkfish and prawn pie. They all believed that they were going to receive a pastry crust. This did not materialise and i arrived in the form of an apple crumble. Monkfish is quite a meaty fish so to my mind you need a light tasty sauce with ideally a puff pastry topping. You could see that the pie was not freshly made, was soggy and really unappetising. The sea bass main course special was good, fresh and tasty. The meal was expensive for what we received. It is a lovely bistro but I would think twice about going back I have to say. I would like to see Peploes continue to perform but dare I suggest that it needs to re-invent its menu and in particular and key to people spending money in top restaurants - the chef needs to up his/her game and maybe actually sit down and taste their own food and make sure what is being sent out of their kitchen is quality food

My partner and I visited Peploe's for Saturday lunch. Although very quiet when we arrived at 12 noon it quickly started to fill up. The waiting staff we encountered were excellent and could not be faulted. My partner ordered the French onion soup to start, which he thoroughly enjoyed, followed by the chicken stuffed with Toulouse sausage, which he found to be a little bland, but that's a common comment when it comes to chicken. My order of mushroom soup was fantastic and the tastiest soup I've had in a long time. My main course was the smoked haddock & crayfish pie which was utterly delicious! We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit to this restaurant and will definitely return.

Was here for a work party. Nice atmosphere and excellent service. For starters I had the Tomato & Aubergine Bruschette for my starter, this was tasty. Our table did tasters of each others dish, one of the other starters was the Gratinated Scallops and Crayfish tails, this was delicious! I will order this as a starter next time I am here. Also, hot on it's heals for a starters is the Brie Aux Filo, again delicious. For the main course most people & myself had the Pan-seared Loin of Venison with fois gras, fondant potato and pomegranete jus, this was absolutely delicious, first time I had tasted this dish and I was not dissappointed! The desserts were tasty also but I opted for the Raspberry Meringue with Pistachio, only thing with this was there was a lot more Pistachio than Meringue. Overall a great night was had and delicious food eaten. :)

Peploe's is one of my all time favourites...been there at min. 1-2 times monthly in approx. 2-3 years. 90% of the time the food is great and I really enjoyed our long weekend lunches/business meetings & girlie nights. BUT recently I tried to host my engagement party (first date memories etc)....but from the start of this joyous booking it all ended badly....we had to cancel (due to the list of rules for parties +6 - I was politely informed they didn’t need my business) which resulted in a €1200+ gain for one of their neighbours.. DISAPPOINTING FROM ONE OF THE GREATS....

I was in Dublin for a concert and staying in the Shelbourne so location was very good for us. 3 of us ate there, and we all had the pre theatre menu. What can i say! We nearly decided to skip the concert and stay in the restaurant! The service was excellent - so so friendly - we were treated like we were spending large amounts of money there rather than €25 a head! I 2 glasses of Pinot Grigio, my companions tried the merlot and the sauv blanc and all were excellent and keenly priced. The haloumi was fab and the confit duck leg so rich and tasty. The atmosphere was warm and cosy - such a lovely restaurant, can't wait to go back.

When I heard that Peploes were doing an early bird I just had to book a table. I was a bit concerned that having a 3 course meal on offer for €25 that the quality of food wouldn't equal ordering from the al la carte but I was not disappointed. The service and food could not be faulted. We had clean plates all round after each course. The Aubergine with Haloumi cheese starter is delicious and the Crumble desert was perfect.

I ate prunes and brie together and it was gorgeous! I even ate a scallop! To me that is adventurous but ducking down steps into a leafy Georgian entrance, bathed in golden light and to be welcomed like royalty had me in the palm of their hands. The meal was one of those fork- dropping moments of pleasure with every mouthful. I love it - nearly as much as the happy chatter and clinking wine glasses which was the soundtrack to the evening. Please go - you deserve it!

Had a very nice dinner here recently. I thought the food was done very well and typical of the type of establishment it was. The service was excellent throughout. I would highly recommend the Venison. I regret I did not have enough room to try a dessert as they sounded delicious.

I went out to eat at Peploes with a group of friends. It is in a nice city centre location. The restaurant was busy, maybe a little noisy but had a good atmosphere. We were in a group of five. I had a fish starter and pan seared loin of venison with foie gras for main a couple of us shared a cheese board for desert. We also shared a couple of bottles of nice wine during the meal and finished of the evening with a round of Irish coffees. I thought that all of the food was good quality well cooked and well presented. The staff were certainly busy but they were always friendly and helpful, as were not in any hurry we has no issued with speed of service and never felts like anyone expected us to leave when we were finished our food. All of our group found the environment comfortable and enjoyed their meal. I liked this restaurant overall and would certainly return to try out some more dishes from the menu.

Was here a few years ago with a group and had an enjoyable night so went back with a party of four on Friday night. It was very busy and noisy, hard to talk, which is something you should be able to do in a restaurant in this price bracket. The food was great, very tasty, however the service was far to fast, we were on to desert in less than an hour. Then when we were finished a bottle of wine our glasses were removed one by one as each person finished. It felt like they wanted us out even though there were tables available. I like the food but the rush to get us finished would stop me returning. We went home disappointed.

Our first visit here, over a year ago was very good, and hence we returned last week, this time as a group of four. The place was very busy, which was great to see and there was a certainly a buzz around the place. This time, the food didnt really live up to the standards you would expect from a place like this. For staters we had brie parcels and carpaccio of beef. Both were presented well and tasted amazing. Out mains were not so good. The tuna steak, which I was told would be rare (and how I prefer it), was over cooked. The rib eye steaks were both rare (when one was requested well done, and the other medium). However the duck was gorgeous. Overall, the meal was ok. Service was excellent. However, too many things were not as expected from a restaurant of this calibre. Will I be back again? Probably if I was flush with cash and not too fussy.

was here back in Jan with a group of 12 on a work related do....what recession? place was jammers all night. it was my first time and I found the food good, but not spectacular, and as we'd been invited, I hadn't a clue of the prices as it was a set menu and prices weren't listed - having now seen the prices, not sure I'll be running back. Staff/service very mixed and not at all consistent. Left waiting for sides for a very long time. It was extremely (uncomfortably) warm in the restaurant and we asked on 3 occasions for the air conditioning to be turned on, but our request went unanswered. A bit disappointing.

Had been meaning to try this place for a long time- visited it out for the first time last week. The place was truly buzzing, with a nice mixed clientele as far as I could see, didn't feel as out of place as I'd expected given their reputation as one of Dublin's snootier venues. Staff were very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Had the ravioli for starters, presentation was gorgeous and the ingredients couldn't have tasted fresher. Lovely mix of flavours, and pasta had that lovely home-made texture. Went for fish pie for mains, which was perfect- made with monkfish and prawns, ideal for me as I'm not partial to the "fishier" fish pies that have stronger, salmony flavours. Topping was delicious too- crunchy breadcrumbs and parmesan. Now, it doesn't come cheap- though we'd expected this, and the food was great, I'm not sure I'd visit again in a hurry due to the prices. But if you're flush, by all means give it a try.

My Dad and I choose Peploes for one of our many Father Daughter lunch dates. It was buzzing which was really good to see, the value was fantastic. I really like to way they have really good wines by the glass. The staff were good they kept us topped up with water, the side orders were a bit slow arriving but were fantastic when they did. The roast chicken has to be tried so tender and succulent, and as for the mushroom lasagne very very nice. I like ....

Food was very good, but service was mixed. We were served by 3 people, 2 very friendly and attentive, one a bit surly. We were given tap water when we first sat down, but this was never topped up until we had finished both our starters and main courses, at which time I had to ask for more water. Also, when our mains came, the side dishes took another couple of minutes to appear, and we had to remind the staff about one that was missing. And our desserts took perhaps 15 minutes to arrive.

4 of us had lunch here for my niece's birthday. Tried to order a glass of prosecco but none available. Service was pleasant enough if less than friendly and food acceptable but nothing to write home about . I had french onion soup to start which was fine and the fish pie was a bit bland. I found the food quite ordinary but maybe just made the wrong choices. I think I expected a bit more based on all the reviews.

I've heard good things about Peploes and I was disappointed. A few of us ate there on a Sunday afternoon. The staff were friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. It was a relaxed atmosphere and overly priced. I had a the soup of the day (white onion & pear with a blue cheese créme fraiche) to start and then haddock and crayfish pie, both were were delicious and plentiful. My friends had the brie and then the butternut squash lasagne, and another had the crab cakes then the wild boar with mushrooms. Everyone was satisfied and smiling. We finished up with a blueberry crumble. A fantastic experience and I will definitely return and try out the evening menu.

Response:

My boyfriend and i ate here for a lazy boozy birthday lunch. This is my favourite restaurant now ever! The atmosphere is cozy, warm and classy but not boring. There is always a buzz here. The service is great, so attentive and not at all stuffy as some eatieries of this level can be. I had a stuffed chicken with pine nuts and raisins and a side of creamed spinach. My boyfriend had a nedium rare steak. To say that we enjoyed every bite was an understatement. Everything was "melt in the mouth" perfect. Dessert was homemade icecream. Divine. The whole lunch with a bottle of white was about €100 and worth every penny. If you want to impress a new date this is the place to go!

Superb! Myself and my husband have eaten here on a number of occasions and we are never dissapointed. Both the food and the atmosphere are worth the visit. On our last visit we were in town for a mid-week show so we had an early booking and were expecting to be shown a pre-theatre menu. However, on our arrival were were presented with the a-la-carte menu, and it would seem that the pre-theatre menu is Peploes best kept secret! On request the pre-theatre menu was presented to us, but at this stage we had already perused the a-la-carte and had the pre-theatre menu didn't live up! We both ordered the brie to start and for mains my husband ordered the prawn and monkfish pie and I had the fish of the day - seabass, both were delicious. Overall Peploes is expensive, but its worth it for a special occasion or a rare treat!

Once again another excellent meal in this restaurant. Always a fantastic atmosphere here, with food and service to back it up. The pate served with the antipasta is delicious. The pies are a nice choice for a lunch rather than steak which is always hard to pass here. All in all one of my favourite places.

Excellent lunch. Buzzy atmosphere. Full throughout lunch period (what recession?). Great service and lovely food. Not bad value either! Menu a bit confusing. Their "set Lunch" menus are only available for parties of 10 or more! However, obliging waiter found a way to provide us with something from that menu as well!

Myself and a friend went for an early bird menu on this date. We had chosen this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. The food was very nice and good value for the price however the service was dreadful during the course of our meal we had four different waiters and despite asking three of the staff for an extra glass of wine none was produced we were on the point of giving up when we asked a female waitress and it was given to us immediately (guess who got the tip). I would recommend this restaurant for its food but not for the service.

|Lovely atmosphere, and very busy for a Sunday evening! The service is very good, although not perfect, but very friendly and professional staff. Food was delicious, although some of the party were not as impressed as me - they put it down to bad choices. The food is pretty rich, as I think is the case in most of the top restaurants, so you have to be in the mood for that. Starter of prawn and scallop was delisious, and main course of duck was also lovely - although it was sweet, not really spicy as the menu said. Dessert of sticky toffee pudding was ok, not really that sticky or gooey though. Lovely atmosphere, this restaurant is still a real treat to go to!

This was a fun place to come for a jolly meal, even on a cold Monday night under the shadow of the budget! An elegant English movie star of a certain age and Ireland's most famous designer were enjoying themselves among the throng. The staff were charming, patient and helpful. It must be said that the scallops were disappointingly greasy and dull. Their crayfish (?) accompaniment were shrimps who'd clearly had a hard life. The wild boar however was very good. Served pink in the modern French fashion, as though a wild hog couldn't handle a roasting, it was nonetheless tender and moist. At 160 euro the Chateau Montrose did not quite live up to its billing, but it was beautifully decanted and poured. Go to Peploes for a good time with good people. But it's not really about the food. The value seemed excellent to me as I wasn't paying the bill.

The restaurant did not live up to my expectations. Dinner for 8 following a graduation. The atmosphere is great and decor inviting. We arrived at 7.30 and after much pleading we eventually got some attention by 8.10. We had to ask for some breads to fill the wait. Come 8.30 we received our first bottle of wine, starters were served up at 8.50. Once the service started, it did improve. However, I couldn't quite grasp the frosty manner from the Maitre d'? My last and final gripe: I took my dinner plate in my hand from the waitress and was horrified by the crunchy dirty feeling from the underside of the plate. To conclude - delicious food (priced high end) and lovely atmosphere - service and cleanliness needs attention - urgently!

We visited Peploe's as a group of five for lunch. We just wanted mains, water and coffees - ok, we aren't a restaurants' idea of dream guests but at the same time, given the way things are at the moment, i thought the slightly frosty reception that increased as it became obvious that we didn't want starters, wine or sides was uncalled for. From looking around, there seemed to be a good mix of people who were having a long lunch and those, like us, who just wanted good food at a reasonable price. Having said that, the food was delicious and service was prompt. I'd definitely come back in the evening to try three courses and wine but would hope that the hard sell attitude would not be so much in force.

Visited Peploes with a group of colleagues on a Friday night recently - the atmosphere was nice...crowded but not loud. However we were waiting a while for eveything - we waited an age to order, we waited to have our starters cleared and so on. Obviously in a busy restaurant you'd expect a little wait but not when paying such prices. My starter was nice - a bruschetta - although the bread was very tough to cut making elegant eating a little difficult! I had John Dory for my mains - a special of the evening. It was ok...but for the price again I'd have expected much better. It was essentially soaked in butter and was a little bland. Overall I'd think twice before visiting Peploes again.

Visited Peploes last Friday week and really enjoyed the atmosphere as soon as we walked in, there was a real 'buzz' about the place. We both had brie to start which was fine, not exciting but was tasty enough. I had duck which was delicious and my husband had the Dublin Bay prawn and monkfish pie, he was disappointed to find only 3 prawns and 2 pieces of monkfish. We had an enjoyable evening but not sure if I'd rush back.

Myself and my husband had a voucher for this restaurant; thank God,I wouldn't have chosen it myself 'cause it is expensive. The place is not very small but the do like to squeeze people in. I couldn't have an intimate conversation with my husband 'cause the couples to my left and right could hear me chew :) The food was nice, the service was excellent and the bread kept coming. Because it was our anniversary, they gave us a free dessert which was very nice to receive. I would recommend this restaurant if you have the money.

Visited Peploes thinking there was a lunch special, disappointed to see it was only on the Italian side of the menu. Ordered the plaice which was the dish of the day and a side of frites & green beans. The Food was acceptable The atmosphere was good, met 4 people I knew! Good place to be seen by the business lunch set. Overall 3 1/2 stars. Will think about going back unless compelling value menu, special offer for lunch or new menu

Have been dying to try this place for more than a year now but I left feeling slightly disappointed. There was a busy atmosphere, not what I was expecting. The food was average, a little pricey and the service wasn't up to standard. Won't be rushing back.

Had lunch here with old pal from college days.. its the perfect athmosphere to spend a long lunchen session with very good wine to catch up on 25 years.. I had the coq au vin which makes me remember again why the French win hands down again and again on Simple Good Food made with the finest of ingredients. We were looked after splendidly by the very attentive staff. We shall go again.

Went here last night for dinner. Service is excellent. Atmosphere and decor are great. Food is nice but only 1 vegetarian main course (risotto) on the entire menu. It was nice but having no other choice was very poor. My friend had the plaice and he said it was really tasty. French onion soup to start was lovely also. I enjoyed the night and would recommend it to non-vegetarians but will not go back again for a long time as there is no other choice on the menu for me which is a shame as its a nice place.

The chef knows what he's at in the kitchen, the food was amazing, cooked to perfection, well presented and proportioned and the flavours exquisite!! The service lets the place down, all the waiters seemed to be angry, though it would'nt stop me from returning, The bill can be expensive, especially if you have a few glasses of wine.

Went for Sunday lunch here recently and I have to admit I was a bit disappointed. I found the menu for lunch a bit limited. ended up with the Fish Cake which was nice, if a bit ordinary and the sticky toffee pudding which was very dry and could have done with a bit more sauce. In addition the service was very poor. Our waitress did not seem to want to be there, practically dumping the plates on the table, leaning across people to put stuff down and slopping red wine all over the white tablecloth not once but EVERY time she refilled the glasses. If this is the norm I dread to think what their laundry bills are like! The restaurant decor was lovely, the wine list was extensive and the atmosphere was relaxing and welcoming so it was a shame that my experience did not live up to expectations

Peploes is a beautiful restaurant of genuine charm, warmth and intelligent service. The menu is trim and well-considered - both at lunch and dinner. A lovely place to meet friends or have a romantic dinner. They know who they are, what they do best, and they deliver consistently.

I have reviewed this restaraunt in the past and was a little too kind in my summation. We went for a meal on Sat and had an 8.30pm sitting. We arrived around 10mins early and we ushered to our seat. The waiter was rude and there was no excuse for his manner. We felt rushed and were leaving the restaraunt by 9.30pm. Very disappointed. To quote John Sheridan it was a case of "here's your hat, what's your hurry!"

Up until last night Peploe's was my favourite restaurant in Dublin. However a major element was missing yesterday and that was the service. We were a table of 12 celebrating a birthday and our waitor seemed to have a chip on his shoulder, he was extremely sarcastic and was not exactly the person you would choose to look after a birthday party. I don't know what his problem was but quite a few of us noticed his attitude. I found a 2 inch piece of plastic in my foie gras...accidents happen, this was not the problem. The problem was I told him to tell the chef, he took my plate and said nothing. He did go and tell the manager as I could see him out of the corner of my eye, however he obviosuly did not care either as even he did not come down and offer an apology. The VERY LEAST they could have done was apologise and ask me if I would like something else!! That is the MINIMUM standard in any restaurant. So on this visit I left very dissapointed.

Seven of went here last night for a celebratory meal. No sign of recession here - it was packed. I had the soup of the evening - white asparagus. Very creamy and delicious - the added fish did nothing for it, however - and very filling. I was unable to finish my main course - delicious lobster risotto, the rice being perfectly al dente. My colleagues enjoyed their various dishes, with the fish pie being a big hit. Only one of us was able for dessert - creme brulee, which she pronounced divine. There was a great buzz to the place and our waiter added to the fun of our evening. Service was attentive and efficient. Haven't been here for years - previously had the impression it was too big for its boots, but this view was adjusted favourably last night.

One of Ireland's best restaurants. A fantastic reserve wine collection, starting at 1,500 Euro. Staff are top of their field and a pleasure to dine with. Large bar area with regular clientèle accessing wine bar facilities.

Finally got to this place. Tried to book three weeks previously and was told this was the first Saturday available. Discovered its much bigger than it looks from the outside. Got a table 'on the run' and opposite the loos so had waiters and customers passing very closely all night. I ordered the tuna - medium - is what was recommended. It came out medium alright but only on the edge. The middle was pink - couldn't eat that. Mum ordered the chicken and was happy enough. As someone else mentioned the accompanying veg is just a garnish and in our case a different variety of asparagus each! So yes definiately order a side of veg per person!. Staff were very friendly and efficient and one lovely waiter amongst them who when he saw I didn't eat the tuna said I wouldn't be charged for it!. Prices were same as most city centre restaurants. Would definately go back and order the tuna well well done (probably shock the chef but there you go) !.

The atmosphere here is quite cozy. The service was excellent, with the waiting staff being attentive without being overbearing. The food was alright, which was not quite what I was expecting given the price. I ordered the duck with potato fondant. The duck was unremarkable really, nice enough, but not warranting the price. The potato fondant and cabbage was really only a garnish and thus the very small portion had to be supplemented with a side order of veg and potato. I'm not a big guy and have an appetite half the size of my brothers or father. The tradition of not including veg or potatoe beyond mere garnish is something that annoys me really, it's kind of a Ryanair-like stunt that I know many restaurants like to pull, but it still gets to me every time. Especially when you're not eating in a budget restaurant, where I could be more forgiving of such behaviour. All-in-all, it's a nice enough place to eat, with good service and satisfactory food, but, alas, not a huge amount of it . The main draw back comes from whether you're willing to pay a premium rate for food which is simply not what you'd expect for the price.

This restaurant is very cosy and intimate and you would never think you were in a basement. The food is cooked to perfection but the portions are very small so don't go there expecting to be full if you are very hungry. The service was excellent and everyone in our group of 8 enjoyed the food and the ambience. It is quite pricey though. If I wasn't being treated on a work night out I may not have been as impressed to be charged what my small portions cost.

Peploes is a classic example of the atmosphere being a very important fact of dining out. The restaurant hums - with the sound of very satisfied customers. The food is always of a very high standard although the portions are on the small side in my opinion. The service is impeccable and the wine list is fantastic. Peploes is a little pricey but well worth it if you are looking for something special. I go back time and time again. It is a place worthy of at least once visit.

I visited this restaurant with a large group of friends. It has a lovely cosy atmosphere as soon as you walk throught the door. The service was excellent considering our group was so large. The steaks were cooked exactly as requested and really tasty. I had the sea bass which was amazing. They have a really good selection of starters to choose from although we all saved ourseves for dessert. I had the chocolate cake which was delicious.

Peploes is, without a doubt, my favourite restaurant in Dublin. I even feel happy just walking through the front door... Sitting at the bar sipping a glass of wine or a cocktail while you wait for your table to be prepared, then sitting down at your table finding new and interesting things in the mural wall painting, the extensive and lovely winelist.. And then the food... I eat out in different restaurants very regularly. The most delicious plate of food I have tasted in a long time was a starter special here in Peploes. Sea bream with cherry tomatoes, garlic and fennell I think... Incredible. Im due another visit soon...

Brought our mother here for a Mother's Day lunch, and I was very impressed. Its unusual to find a steak in Dublin city centre for under €20, but they have it!! Had the duck liver paté to start, which was served with a fabulous soft Brioche, and cherry compote. I followed this with the fish cake, which was served with a tomato sauce and potato..out of this world! The menu was so varied, there was something for everyone, with a huge Lemonsole for the fish of the day. Would highly recommend this restaurant!!

Went here on Valentines night when there was a fixed menu. I was somewhat sceptical given the night and usual way that customers are treated on similar nights. However the meal was almost flawless. Perfectly cooked food, the sommelier was excellent and the atmosphere super. The only gripe I had was with the Jacobs Meditteranean crackers (Probably bought in the Centra down the road) served with the cheese board. A serious lack of effort on their behalf and a serious letdown after probably some of the best food I have ever eaten. Nonetheless, I will be back.

A most disappointing visit. There were three hosts greeting guests on arriving hence this ensured confusion all around as there did not appear to be a manager in charge. We received a table in the back beside the toilets which was badly lighted and conversation at our table was difficult as staff members/patrons were constantly going in and out of the door beside us.One member of our group had soup to start, the temperature of which was extremely hot and it was obvious that it was heated in a microwave. It was greasy and did not contain many vegetables and had someone's thumbprint on the side of the soup bowl.A French onion soup was tried by my uncle and was voted quite good but cold and I had the brie which was average. The bread that was served was hard, not fresh and we estimated that it had been frozen and stored before being served. Our mains (fish and steak) were relatively better but what restaurant in Dublin charges €3.95 for a side order of vegtables and a further €3.95 for mashed potatoes in this economic climate? The mash in particular was placed on a very small dished and was piped quite finely. We declined desserts and took coffee and hoped to make a speedy escape however this was not to be so.We are in the habit of leaving a tip on the table and not adding it to the bill but the most unpleasant waitress proferred the credit card machine and as we clicked on 'no' when asked did we wish to add a tip to our bill, the machine declined our credit card, not once but twice. The is a credit card that was used 15 minutes prior to entering the restaurant and a half-hour after leaving and it worked perfectly. After contacting our bank later that day, the bank stated that if it was a genuine declining of the card for whatever reason, the smartcard machine always gives a receipt stating this for the customer's own records. We paid in cash as the waitress in question dealt with the situation so badly and we did not leave a tip.We will not return.

Peploes is one of my favourite eating establishments at the moment. Went there Sunday evening at 6 and there was a few tables booked but not too busy. I was using a voucher so we were fully intent on having everything we wanted from the menu. I had the brie for starters which was very tasty and then I had the special which was Seabass. My friend had the Goats cheese which I helped finish - also delicious and a steak which was cooked to perfection. We ordered side orders of fries & spinich which were both lovely - both main courses were served with spinach so needless to say we were overloaded with the spinach. I thought the waiter might have mentioned this - didn't mention it in the menu that spinach were served with both - mine was the special so it wasn't printed he may have said it to me but I didn't quite catch it - we would have probably ordered another side order anyhow but it was all delicious. Both stuffed but managed selection of sorberts (chocolate scoop very rich) and just a bowl of icecream washed down with a lovely glass of wine from the extensive wine list. All in all a very good experience and will be returning. Not too expensive for the quality of food served in my opinion. Service is always super.

Went here with a gang of clients as it was one of the few places that has a late lunch option (open till 3:30). As always there was a great atmosphere as the place was buzzing and this is actually quite hard to find in Dublin these days in the late afternoon. We had to order of the set menu which was fine as there was about 14 of us. The butternut squash soup i had to start was full and creamy and nearly a meal in itself. The steak I had for main course was cooked to perfection, if just a little too seared for my liking. The onion marmalade that accompanied complimented it perfectly. There was no shortage of side orders either. The highlight of the meal was the blackberry and apple crumble with home made ice cream that seems to be cooked to order. Divine! My only complaint was that the white wine was kept in a bucket at a distance and the waiter gave me an odd look when i asked him to leave it on the table as they were not that swift at keeping glasses topped up - a must if the wine is not at the table. Perfect place for lunch as long as you are not paying!

This place was buzzing on a Tuesday night. In fact, it was so busy it took the Maitre'd some time to seat us; to her credit she made space at the bar for our party of four to be comfortable. Once seated we dined exceptionally well. The steak was a feast; duck was perfectly executed with a cherry sauce. The highlight for me was the desserts: the Bailey's Souffle was morish and the Chocolate Tart- sublime, rich and clearly freshly made. This place is perfect for couples, corporate occasions, family or friends. With food and atmosphere like Peploes why go anywhere else?

I made a booking through menupages and received confirmation, however when we arrived the restaurant had no record of our reservation. As I had the print out confirmation from menupages they honoured the reservation so all was well. The service was excellent but the food wasn't as good as I'd expected. To start I had the deep fried Brie. This was tasty but was served on turnip mash, which was quite strange. The Christmas lunch menu online wasn't available so we were given the regular menu, which wasn't as good as unfortunately the only vegetarian main course contained mushrooms, which I can't stand. Thankfully though there were only 3 or 4 mushrooms in it so easy to pick out. The wine was really really good so I'd be tempted to go back again. The other people in my group enjoyed their food too apart from one person who thought the pheasant was very overcooked.

My self and my husband ate here recently on a Sunday. The place was buzzing with regulars and the waiting staff were so attentive but not in your face. The extensive wine list accompanys each dish prefectly and the desert wine finished the meal off. My main course of Peasent with risotto was mouth watering. My husband choose the monkfish and prawn main, which was a bad move because he felt there were bland and flavorless. Despite this we will be returning to Peploes as it left a sweet taste on our lips.

We visited here for a work Christmas lunch & it was very good. I had a gorgeous rocket salad & then cod & sorbet to finish. All excellant. One dish I can recommend from past visits is the apple crumble. Best I've ever had in fact! Wine list was as always great & experience overall gets top marks.

I was really looking forward to our meal here as had heard good reviews but was very disappointing. The staff were very snooty, yet didn't have the professionalism to back this up. Although I had ordered the wine for our table, when the waiter brought it he did not offer me the option to taste the wine, he just proceeded to pour everyone a glass. This is just one of so many basic waiter errors that occurred that evening. For the prices they charge you expect excellent service. The food was mediocre, the vegetables over cooked and tasteless. At the end of the meal we ordered coffees but were brought the bill instead! Which charged us for the coffee we never received. We left as soon as we could as could not stand their rudeness any longer.

Peploes has not only an excellent location but attentive staff, a cosy and charming atmosphere and most importantly delicious food. I went last week with two friends. The restaurant itself is quite small but not uncomfortable. The staff are observant without being irritating. The portion sizes are perfect. The price is proportional to the quantity and quality of the food served. The steak was cooked to perfection. My starter of bruschetta was so tasty I wondered how the rest of the meal would measure up. Finally the deserts were fantastic. For the first time in a long time I was completely satisfied with my meal and even found it hard to finish it all!!

Peploes is lovely, the standard of food is very very high, the wait staff are extremely well trained, which might come off a little snooty but it's the French/British style of being the invisible servant, not the American in-your-face style that we seem to love. I have been here a couple of times and it's a real treat, have a booking before Christmas - can't wait!

I was very disappointed with the service and the portions of my main course. We didn't order wine as my wife is pregnant and so I think the waiter wrote us off straight away as not worth his effort. He didn't tell us what were the specials but fussed over the table next to us. My monkfish & prawns were exquisite but so small and of course the waiter didn't ask us if we wanted any side dishes so I had to order french fries when it came. All in all was very unimpressed mainly with the service once he realised we werent big spenders.

I was there for our work Christmas meal. Very pleasant atmosphere with good food and service. A bit formal for some tastes perhaps, but not stuffy. It is on the pricey side though.

We go often for a drink at the bar and I have eaten several times here. You can also get food served at the bar in a smaller menu from the barman. I LOVe the Gnocci with Gorgonzola but its not always on the main restaurant menu...maybe its a lunch dish. Food and service is great but I have one griope. They serve Sirloin steak and no fillet steak but charge a fillet price for it. I find sirloin too tough and fatty. I expected a place like this to have the best cuts. Otherwise always a warm and tasty experience. If its too expensive for dinner try for lunch. beautiful wine selection as well!

This has to be one of my favourite restaurants in Ireland!! I have brought friends, family & colleagues here on different occasions and it has never let me down. The quality of the food and service is outstanding. It has a cosy feel to it and although tables are quite close on a bust night, it somehow feels still quite private. It is the perfect location for a special evening with friends or loved ones!

had been looking forward to dinner here for ages. having finally been there i was pleased but not overly impressed. food was lovely, wine was nice, service was polite (maybe OTT polite). so overall it was a pleasant evening but it didnt live up to all the hype which i had heard prior to eating there.

Went here with 7 from work for a pre Xmas lunch at 3pm. The place was packed (so much for a recession!). The service is excellent. Every member of staff treats you like you are their number 1 priority. Food was excellent and house wine was good. Bill came to 70 a head which was fine (tip included in this). You wouldn't be eating here every night of the week (well unless you can afford it!) but for a treat it is well worth it and I'd highly recommend it.

Went here for mu husbands birthday and had a great night but I do think its not the best value for money. The food was lovely and the wine (although some is a little pricey - especially the half bottle we had after our first!). I had clams to start with garlic bread - tasty but wouldn't blow me away and again overpriced considering price of clams and how cheap they are if you order abroad. I had fish for main which was lovely and creme brulee for dessert. The service was very good - needs to be for the price! We had a great night but I wouldn't be rushing back purely due to value for money and although we got a good seat the place is much bigger than I expected so not hugely intimate for a romantic meal. Its in a great location but I would prefer the Italian and french restaurants on this street - better value and more intimate and still excellent food.

A great menu, efficient service and always busy. Peploes is definitely still the top on this what the media call the Golden Mile. The food and wine are delicious.

One of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. Good place to come early evening for a quick main course and glass of wine. Sit on the side close to the bar - it's like a library and very cosy in winter. Ate here last week and was very impressed with friendly service and delicious cheesboard in particular.

Had dinner here last Thursday with 6 friends. The place was packed. We sat down at about 9:30 after a drink at the bar. We couldn't fault the food, the duck was exceptional. Worth a visit.

First time at Peploes - husband is a regular but my work takes me in a different direction. We were in a hurry and the staff managed to make being in a rush feel comfortably leisurely - full marks. Game pie definitely an oddity and equally definitely not a pie, and I think liver among the ingredients should have been mentioned. Delicious dish - but not a game pie except insofar as it contained game as one (or possibly two - pigeon and venison?) among its ingredients. Game cottage pie perhaps? Anyway I liked it and the sauce was brilliant, as was the spinach layer underneath (in game pie?) Son's magret of duck was requested medium but came a little more done than we think of as medium in our family - but I guess that is a bow to all those customers for whom medium means done to death. But it was a nice piece of meat, tender and with crispy skin as it should have but rarely does. We enjoyed stealing from each other. The creme brulee was good, as was the accompanying orange compote but the home made jaffa cake was a mistake. Even offset by the creme brulee the unsweetened chocolate was too dry. We suggest a 70%. An Americano was a little too American - I'll try the espresso next time. Good quality coffee but a little too dilute. Overall a very pleasant experience and we'll go back when we have time to linger and aren't driving so we can enjoy the wine list which looked excellent. Cooking was not fine dining but rather very good bistor indeed so maybe just a little overpriced

I had a late lunch with my family on Monday and chose Peploes after much deliberation based on reviews here. It was a special occasion so I wanted somewhere nice. Pelpoes did not disappoint. The atmosphere was fine considering it was 3pm on a Monday, the food was delicious. I had the brie in filo with Agen prunes (which was amazing) and the sirloin steak, cooked to perfection. The creamed spinach with pinenuts is gorgeous. The house sauvignon was nice, and the cappuccino and profiteroles perfect. I didn't find the portions small at all - I had to share a dessert with 2 others because none of us could fit it in. The lunch menu is good value too. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it, and I hope to return.

visited peploes last saturday night with 2 other diners. had heard wonderful things about the restaurant, butI was very very dissapointed, with the food i have to say.the service of the staff was fantastic but the quality and presentation of the food was dreadful to say the least. for starters i had the gravadlax and crab , the portions were miniscule and covered in a huge pile of sauce, it literally looked like it had just been fired on to the plate. i had the monkfish and prawns for my main course, 3 prawns and 3 pieces of monkfish swimming (excuse the pun) in a plate of liquid, and grossly overpriced at 29.50. normally, i wouldnt hesitate to complain, but one of my friends was treating the other 2 and i didnt want to create any hassle. the other 2 were similarly unimpressed by the food. Mutton dressed as lamb, comes to mind. we wont be back.

My favourite of the fine dining restaurants in the City Centre of Dublin. Peploes has all the benefits of the white linen experience but without the stiffness that might be associated with that end of the market. Exquisite food and excellent wine menu. Ideal for corporate lunches.

Went to Peploes at a work event last night. We (10 of us) sat in the Bistro. The entire restaurant was buzzing - no 'r' here (although a number of the heavyweights of irish industry/property who were spotted would normally only darken the doors of starred places....). It has been probably 2 years since i was last here and I'm not sure if the food suffered in a large group but I was extremely disappointed in the food experience overall. I started with squid salad which was far too rubbery for a place with the aspirations of Peploes. That was followed by game pie - which on a cold November evening i hoped would warm the bones. The pie consisted of about 3 pieces of venison meat with the rest made up of kidneys and carrots. When it comes to offal, somewhat behind the curve I know but I have not quite made it past the awful stuff of my childhood. In any case, i am not alone. The presence of kidneys should be well flagged. I passed on pudding despite the fact that someone else was paying. I fail to see the attraction in this place. It will be a long time before i'm convinced to return.

Came here with a friend (my first visit, not hers) as I had heard such good reports. Our food was delicious, though I could not manage to finish my dessert. The service was excellent - the waitress recommended a more expensive bottle of wine in a very charming way and the extra €8 was worth it. Looking around, a lot of tables had the same wine so the waiting staff were obviously having a lot of success with their recommendation. Toilets were woeful though - cramped, with staff clothes hanging up outside and no toilet roll. Maybe there are separate toilets for customers I did not see as these were definitely not up to standard compared to the food and service. A minor complaint however.

We hadn't been to Peploes in quite a while, its such a popular spot that a Saturday night booking at a reasonable hour is tough unless you are prepared to book weeks in advance. Book weeks in advance we did and four of us arrived for a 9.15pm sitting. The restaurant was busy as always, and atmosphere as good as we had remembered from previous visits. Service was quick and efficient throughout, apart from our mains being slow, but kitchen rather than service at fault there. We started with risotto, morteau sausage, goats cheese and scallops - all were very good. Mains we selected steak, 2 fish dishes and venison and a selection of sides. These seemed to be slow to arrive and when they did all of the mains were lukewarm. We were still hungry so got stuck in and it proved to be a mixed reaction. Steak deemed to be somewhat dry, venison overwhelmed by a rich sauce, but fish dishes both good. Our main complaint was that all sides were inedible as way over-salted. We did note this to the waiter as we really couldn't eat them; the Maitre D' duly arrived to speak to us and took all sides off the bill. He later returned to note the kitchen had re-tasted the sides when our table had been cleared and agreed with the too salty verdict. He also brought four glasses of champagne for our pudding course. So, somewhat disappointed with the mains/sides, but very graciously handled by the Maitre D'. Puddings were good and all told while we weren't blown away by all of the food we did have a good night and enjoyed the visit. I have been to Peploes a number of times over the years and food can be a little erratic - I've had fantastic meals and some experiences like this one. Come for the atmosphere, the lively buzz but be warned you might be a little disappointed with the food depending on the night/how busy the place is.

This was my second visit and I was looking forward to it, having eaten very well here several months ago. It was midweek and the place was almost full - a good sign. However, the first thing the waiter dropped at the table was bread and olive oil - rancid olive oil. It had probably been left out open in a hot kitchen too long. No problem; just skip the oil! I prefer butter anyway (not that I had any). We ordered and our starters arrived quickly. The menu is a bit dated (fried brie...carpaccio of beef...) but I had the cepe risotto, laced with a little of the rancid oil around the edges. Luckily it has been poured over and pooled at the edges. At this stage I wanted to say something but the waiter simply rushed in when we were finished, not a word and no eye contact and took the plates. I was really waiting for him to ask how everything was. Mains arrived (venison and an odd haddock lasagna with cold cucumber strings on top) and to finish me off they tossed the vegetables lightly in yet more rancid olive oil. I was getting a bit cross at this stage, and wanted to speak to a waiter but they just kept passing by so I left the veg and ate the rest. Again plates cleared in seconds. Dessert and coffee served in a blur and again no one asking if everything was all right. In fact we were getting our coats and I thought I might mention it but our coats were fired at us with fairly charmless haste and we were outside in the cold. So because no one in Peploe's was interested in how my experience was I can only contribute this.

I was brought there for big work lunch and have to say I would not have been willing to spend that amount of money myself. The food was very tasty and the staff very friendly but I have to say it is a bit overpriced and felt a bit clausterphobic, indeed they try to squash too many people in there. Finally I would say, if someone offers to bring you there, yes go ahead but if you are paying for it yourself, there are plenty more restaurant in Dublin which offer a better value for money.

I was brought there on a week night and the place was buzzing. It was a mix of groups, couples and business diners and it worked! I'd been before on weekend nights and always enjoyed it. The food and service was faultless. My venison main course was superb and I even managed desert - a plum souffle. They had good wine list and particularly strong selection of wines by the glass. A definite treat and worth every penny!

I went here for a work lunch and was very pleased overall; the food was tasty, service was quick and efficient and the atmosphere was busy and interesting; a little crowded perhaps but most places in Dublin are! Although it was missing something that I cannot quite put my finger on, I would certainly recommend this restaurant.

Had lunch here with 2 friends. Lunch was planned for a while & were really looking forward to it. We were not disappointed. The food was cooked perfectly, wine was excellent. Service was also very good. The only bad thing I could say was I thought the sauces were a bit too much very heavy & way too much of it. My friend had the lamb & was very under cooked. It was a bit pricey but very enjoyable & we will be back.

Eat here on Saturday evening for an anniversary dinner. All in all had a great night from the atmosphere and service to the food. To start I had the cepes and tomato bruschetta which was nice but just a bruschetta at the end of the day and my boyfriend had the special soup which was mushroom and hazelnut and was gorgeous, wish i had gotten that too. For mains I had the duck and my boyfriend the sea bass, both of these were lovely, only thing to say that the sides that came with them, were not that plentiful so we ordered two other sides. For dessert we shared the creme brulee and chocolate tart-yum. For all this and two bottles of wine the total bill came to €150 which was very reasonable.

It was my 1st time here & though we didnt have a booking we were given a table at 6PM which had to be left by 7:30 as the restaurant was fully booked on a Tuesday.Between 2 of us we ordered a Carpacio n soup of the day as starters, brie in filo & bruschetta for my partner as he is a vegetarian & sadly they dont have any veg option in the main course.I had hen for the main course which was really nice. For dessert we had chocolate tart which was really rich n delicious & the souffle which was too good for words. With a bottle of rieslig the bill came to 115 which is a tad high. But looking at the service & the attentiveness of the staff the place is definitly a visit again.

All I can say is this is a fantastic restaurant. The staff were really amazing which made the night for us. I was attending The DHS with my Mum and we decided to make a weekend out of it shopping etc. We stayed the night in The Shelbourne which is two secs away but Peploes was the highlight of the whole weekend. Wine excellent with good choices. Is expensive but worth every cent.

I love the food here. It's consistently tasty, well presented and well worth the prices you have to pay. This is evident as it's always hard to get a weekend reservation and on occasion, I've dined here on Mondays and it's still packed! The waiters are very professional. This is definitely one of my 2 favourite restaurants in Dublin. I can rely on the food here when I entertain, my friends are always impressed. I can't say the same for many other fine dining restaurants.

Have eaten here a few times. The food has consistenly been good. Among the starters I have had are fishcakes, lobster soup (delicious) & salmon gravadlax. All good. For mains I have had steak and fish. Both have been perfectly cooked and sauce on steak (can't recall name but looked similar to bearnaise). Nice decor and service generally very good. A tad pricey but not exhorbitant. Overall a nice place and would recommend.

We ate here on Saturday night. Or table wasn't ready so we were seated at the bar with a very good wine list and fresh olives. This was a lovely way to start the evening. The food was absolutely excellent. We had the brie and pan fried scallops to start, followed by the sirloin steak and duck. We finished with an apple crumble to share. The quality of the food for all courses, including side orders was excellent. The service was also very good. This is now in my top three restaurants in terms of food. My only slight complaint is that there was a much older crowd there (50+) but this could also be seen as a good thing. Highly recommended.

I brought my partner for his 50 birthday.. The atmosphere was good, the service efficient..but the food was disappointing- we were expecting a WOW factor but there was none. Most disappointing of all for me was the fact that I had prearranged with a waiter to simply put one candle on my partners desert in recognition of his 50Th birthdays, this he failed to do. The was no value for money here, there are however lots of alternative restaurants.

My new favourite restaurant in Dublin! Went here for the first time with my boyfriend and another couple and we enjoyed every minute of our meal. Loved the bar and the option to have a pre-dinner tipple before sitting at our table. The restaurant was very busy the night we ate here but we never felt hurried or ignored. The service was excellent and the food was amazing. I am still day dreaming about their tuna steak! Definitely will be calling back very soon.

Arrived on time for table for two for an anniversary, quickly brought to table, and excellent service and food followed at a good pace, plenty of time to choose from the menu, attentive staff and excellent food. Only thing that bothered me was how close the tables were, especially the tables for two - a little more room would have improved the lack of privacy in conversation. Would consider again if in a larger group as those tables were more spaced out. Cheers

Took my wife here for birthday treat, had read lots of good reviews but also comments of waiting for tables, even when on time. This happened to us and we stood at an overcrowded bar for 1/2hour before being seated. Also felt the waiter had just left TGi's as lots of "hey guys" and "right guys whaddya want". Not something I liked or wanted from somewhere that isn't on the value end of the price range. Food was ok but I didn't get the "wow" factor I was hoping for.

Lunch at Peploe's: I had lunch here for a family occasion recently, and it didn't disappoint. The service was excellent - the waiting staff knew the order off by heart, which was impressive. The food quality was excellent - many of us had the steak, which was delicious. Good quality, excellent wine list. One setback was that they phoned twice to confirm the reservation...

I have eaten in Peploes a few times over the years and I was last night for a work do. We all had the set menu as we were a large group. I had the smoked salmon to start which was delicious but quite greasy with all of the butter. I had the steak with a Bearnaise sauce for main course which was divine! The steak was perfectly cooked and char grilled - really superb! Chocolate torte for dessert which was delicious - but very rich! Service was a good mix of relaxed formality. Will definitely be back to Peploes again soon.

I dined at Peploes with my husband last Thursday for our Wedding Anniversary. We had a reservation for 8.30pm, and arrived on time, but were not seated until 9pm. We were waiting a good 30 mins for our starters, people beside us were seated after us and their order taken and their food arrived at least 10 mins before ours. We were again waiting for our main course a good while. They do not leave your wine bottle at your table, and we had to ask a couple of times for our glasses to be filled up and for more water. We had to ask a couple of times for our bill. Although the food was good, the service was disappointing. We complained on the way out as we were asked was everything ok but all they said was sorry. It was our 1st time at Peploes and wouldn't be in a rush back

Visited Peploes for the first time yesterday. The atmosphere is lovely and cosy. The service was exemplary! For starter I had the lamb kidneys which were served in a beautiful sauce and a slice of toasted brioche with which to mop up as much as possible. The other half had the foie gras - also beautiful though I think I just about won the starter round. The mains weren't quite as great. I had the brochette of monkfish. The vegetables were excellent, fresh and full of flavour. The prawns included didn't add anything though in my opinion and I would have rathered a little more monkfish instead. The dessert of lemon soufflé was light and delicious. A wonderful texture with a lovely raspberry sauce and sorbet to accompany it. Wine is expensive but there is plenty of choice. Overall, when I thought of a recent visit to another nearby restaurant where prices were almost exactly the same, there was simply no comparison. Peploes are proud of their food and it shows. I will definitely go back.

I went to this Bistro for my Dad's birthday with my family. A party of 7, we were welcomed by friendly staff. Waited about two minutes for our pre-booked table, a nice and quiet corner. The menu was rather challenging, as I prefer mostly vegetarian dishes. However I ordered the Filo Wrapped Brie, my recommended dish, and Chicken Caesar Salad as my main course. My family all ordered, and our polite and informative waitress told us that for a party as big as we, complimentary side dishes were served. We drank red and white wine, bottled water and fresh juice. Our starters arrived, where the waiters and waitresses did not have to ask whose meal was whose. I thought this remarkable! My starter was delicious, two filo wrapped Bries, melted and gooey, a miniature salad and tasty prunes too. It was definitely enough for a starter. When the main courses arrived we were impressed with its presentation. My salad was good looking...but I wasn't too pleased with it in the end. The salad was crunchy and fresh, and though the chicken was succulent it had some stringy skin which didn't appeal to me. Too much chicken for a starter though. The croutons, pine nuts and Parmesan cheese were top notch, but near the end my salad tasted too salty. We ordered dessert, and I asked for a candle on my dad's Carrot Cake, which was granted without question. The desserts took long, due to my selection of Soufflé of the Evening, but we didn't mind this. Desserts arrived, with the candled cake, and a song of "Happy Birthday"! My Passion fruit Soufflé, Mango Sorbet and Fruit Coulees was absolutely amazing! It definitely was my best dish. It was light, creamy and very hot. The sorbet was perfect and melted nicely with the hot soufflé. The fruit was tasty also, all summer berries. I finished my dessert with a big smile, I highly recommend the Soufflé! The staff was extra nice, polite, friendly and helpful. The price was high, but for a 7-party three-course meal, with wine, I recommend Peploes Wine Bistro. xx

Have had two very pleasant evenings in Peploes over the past couple of months. Food is of a very high standard. The brie starter is delicious and both duck and monk fish/prawn mains have ensured a clear plate. The tables are a little close together and, as a result, it can feel rather cramped when the restaurant is full.

Visited Peploes for the first time yesterday evening for Mr. Boops birthday. The place was full with a good atmosphere when we arrived. We had to wait a short while for our table as we were a little early but had a glass of wine at the bar while waiting. The menu has changed slightly to the one on menu pages so I could not make up my mind and asked our waiters advise as wanted to try some new dishes and not the usual of steak etc. He suggested the "Foie Gras" starter for me (one of the most expensive on the menu at €15.50) but it was a great choice as it was really different and I would definitely have again. Mr. Boop opted for the "Dressed crab" (not to my taste, but he enjoyed it). The bread served with the meal was lovely and it came with a really light Olive oil to dip. I thought the oil was flavoured as it was so nice but the waiter said it was plain. I chose “Rabbit" as my main. A little bland. It was a very small portion wrapped in ham and pastry. The sauce that came with it made the meal. Mr. Boop had the "Monkfish and Prawn" which he rated highly. We shared a portion of "Frites" and a portion of "Potato Dauphinois" which were both lovely. My only concern was when we went to use our glass that had been filled with water, immediately we could both get that horrible "left lying too long dish smell" that always reminds me of "wet dog". But our waiter quickly changed the glasses and brought a new bottle of water. We were too full to have dessert even though I really wanted to try them. As well the only solution is to visit again soon.

This is our standard meeting place after work when we are attending concerts at the NCH or the Sugar Club. We've had many excellent meals here in the bar area. Last Monday was no exception. I had carpaccio of beef, which was very tasty. Lovely selection of breads. The service is quick and efficient. Desserts are yummy. They do lovely wines by the glass.

Remarkably good food, lovely service, loved the atmosphere. 2 of my best friends were there for dinner last Friday and I gatecrashed their dinner, the management were suberbly acommodating, went out of their way to fit me in, and I'd go as far as to say the 3 of us made friends with them over it! Wine a wee too pricey perhaps, but if the margin is paying for that kind of service I don't mind at all.

I have been here twice and both times thought the food was excellent. The first time I had the venison and as a first timer I found it to be delicious. Their sides of vegetables were scrumptious too. The second time was for our work Christmas party in December and we had a great time. We had to choose off a set menu and to be honest I would have liked a better selection. My meal was lovely, but one of my colleagues hated her gnocchi. The service is very good, but you would expect it at the prices you are paying and because of the reputation it has. The one thing I didn’t like was that they kept bringing and pouring us wine when we didn’t ask for it. I was not footing the bill, but if I was, I wouldn’t have been happy about bottles and bottles of wine just appearing at the table. I thought it was a little bit cheeky.

I visited Peploes this weekend for mothers day and had a lovely meal. Though the menu was limited enough, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service on the whole was very good. my only complaint would be that having ordered the special of pork medalions, i was not impressed when the server brought out the suckling pig, the other pork dish on the menu. When i told him that was not what i ordered he suggested i had not specified which pork dish on the menu i wanted. In any case i am sure i did specifically order the pork medalions but surely he should have asked if he was not sure. As it was mothers day and there was a later sitting after us, i decided i would have the suckling pig so as not to delay the meal, and was bitterly disappointed. There was very little meat, and the whole dish which supposedly was 'barbecue' flavored tasted like it had been covered in soy sauce. Having said all that the rest of my party of 6 thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Maybe i was unlucky!

Peploes is a great place for entertaining but hopefully at somebody elses expense as its pricy at the best of times. In fairness the food is always very good but I wish they would change their menu sometime soon! I have been going there for about 2 years now and am getting tired at the lack of options. I end up having almost the same thing every time unless theres a good special on. The staff are very professional but my one gripe would be that at the end of the night they have no qualms about turning up the lights to let you know they are finished. If they are going to serve you & charge for wine the least they could do is let you drink it in comfort. Overall opinion is that it is a defo reliable place, comfortable surrounds & good service. Maybe just needs a little shake up.

We had a table for four and arrived about 10 minutes late - they made it quite clear to us that they were not impressed !! The service was slow and I felt the menu was very limited. The quality of the dishes was only good and this is not what i expected considering the prices on the menu.Overall,we had a good night, but it will be a while before we go back

Ate here last night with a group of friends, and I have never walked away from a restaurant with such a bad taste in my mouth. The standard of the food was appalling. All of us who had the "seared" foie gras could not eat it, it was so overcooked, it actually looked like a piece of liver and tasted similar. At 15 euro a pop was very disapppointing. My main was worse, loin of veal with pear and gorgonzola, the veal was under cooked and thus very tough, half way through I gave up and mooted the whole thing as a disaster. Never again. Do restaurants in Dublin seem to have no head or sous chefs in operation on Sundays? What should be a nice day for eating out has turned into bad bad food at high prices, and I don't mean the price of the food. Restauranters please note, sort out your kitchens on Sundays or close.

I was here for the first time for lunch yesterday and I was disappointed after hearing lots of good things. The food was fine but quite expensive, expecially for a lunch menu. I had scallops to start which were nice but a bit overloaded with olive oil. I had the fish cake for main course which was a little bland, although the accompanying veg was yum. I wasn't impressed with the options for dessert. The service was very good and the venue is nice but overall I felt the food didn't meet the expectations set by the price.

We had our girlie Christmas dinner here and it was fab. We had a lovely table and our waitress was friendly despite being rushed off her feet as they were so busy. I had the bruschetta to start and steak for main and I have to say it was delicious. Everyone in the party thoroughly enjoyed their food, we were short of licking our plates clean! It is a tad expensive but to be fair it is really nice. I'm looking forward to returning soon.

I have been here many times and returned again last Saturday night for a meal with 6 others. As usual it was top class service and atmospheric surroundings but (again as usual) I left feeling like I had got what I wanted but paid just a little too much for it. I had the brie starter and you could not fault it, perfectly melted cheese and light crispy batter with a nice salad/sauce. For main I decided to be brave and opted for the Venision. It, to my taste anyway was overpowered by the flavours of the sauces that came with it. Altogether too rich a flavour in the sauces whilst the venison, when tasted on its own was quite nice. I would not order it again though. One of the party had the rubard and apple dessert which I had a taste of and went back for more, its was very good. Some nice wine (and no one doing the dog on it!) and the overall bill came to €160 per couple. Maybe I am being unfair insofar as everyone else raved about their food which mostly was the steaks. (Does that in intself say something about the menu?) I will be back as you cannot fault so many aspects of Peploes (esp service and ambience) but the Deer are safe for now!

Myself and my mum took my dad here for his birthday dinner, and it was the most enjoyable meal that either of us have eaten in a long long time. The service was excellent, the table was ready when we arrived, and the food was to die for. My meal in particular won massive praise (prawns and monkfish) because of the jus that was in the dish. This tasty sauce was so flavoursome, and really and truely complimented the meal. Having heard that Peploes was pricey I was rather impressed with the bill which was €260 for 3 courses for 3 people, a bottle of really good wine, and a glass or red wine, and three glasses of champagne. The only problem with the night.. deciding what not to eat!

Dreadful service & no spirits licence. Three of us went here for a lazy Sunday lunch yesterday and whilst the food was excellent, the service was appallingly snooty, rude and arrogant - I won't be returning. From the moment we arrived every member of staff seemed really unwelcoming. Nobody smiled, absolutely everything seemed too much trouble (after our meals arrived, I asked if our side dishes were on their way the waiter barely acknowledged me - let alone followed them up). Then to top it all off, himself tried to order a whisky and we were told in no uncertain terms that the restaurant didn't hold a spirits licence! This restaurant could be amazing because we all enjoyed our meals but were left with a really bad taste in our mouths - the inexcusably atrocious service.

The Divas dined again yesterday evening ..this time accompanied by a guest from the UK hospitality industry who is involved in the organisation of high profile events. The overall impression by all was that the restaurant was cosy, realxed, we didn't feel rushed in any way and the service was exceptional. The food was even better ....mushroom risotto, filo wrapped brie and warm goats cheese to start followed by gnocchi with gorgonzola sauce and maigret of duck. Our guest was most impressed by the complete experience and the ambience was most relaxing. We will be returning.

I went here for the first time this summer for lunch. 5 of us sat down at 1 and stayed until 5. The atmosphere was excellent and the food was very good. I had the cottage pie as a main course and this did the trick perfectly. Overall I could not find fault with the staff or the service. The wine was also excellent. I recommend it highly for lunch especially if trying to impress.

Ideal for a business lunch or dinner or a special occasion with Friends. I went on a business dinner two weeks ago with 7 other people. The service, atmosphere and food were great. Smoked salmon and crab to start was nice (had crumbled egg on top so be warned) and steak. Others in my group really enjoyed the brie in filo to start and duck and lamb as mains were a hit!

Great atmosphere, lovely food. I go here for business lunches from time to time and like the chatty nature of the place. The only thing is that they should change the menu more often!! It's near my offices, and I've had the gnocchi without bacon around 8 times in recent months (I'm vegetarian). So some choice would be great. Had one rude waiter in the past, but generally like the place. Love the mushroom bruschetta starter.

Always have knowledgable professional waiters on hand who can recommend well. The best steak and fries with bearnaise sauce in Dublin! The cottage pie is very popular. The complimentary bread at the start can ruin you for dessert - so be warned. Great atmosphere and good for the people-watcher in you.

Finally managed to try Peploe's last Friday and was not disappointed. Food, service, atmosphere were all fabulous! I had French Onion soup followed by the Monkfish while S had the Goat's cheese followed by the John Dory (the special)... All great. For desert, I had the souffle which is well worth the 15 min wait specified on the menu. Dinner for 2 came to 151 Euro which included a lovely bottle of Sancerre @ 41 Euro. Looking forward to our next visit!

Had lunch here and it was really good. The food was fab, I had risotto which was cooked perfectly. The wine selection was great, we had chateauneuf du pape and it was fantastic. The service was great, the food was great. The restaurant was a little dark for daytime as it's in the basement but would be perfect for a romantic meal.

WOW!! I brought my mother for her 60th along with some family members and we had a fantastic time. Mom's approval would carry a lot more weight than mine due to her fine dining background - she was delighted. Personally I didn't know food could taste that good and I have been to a few restaurants recently that would put themselves in the same category. The service, food and atmosphere at Peploes will be hard to beat and since I was paying I thought it was very reasonable for what you get.

It had a lovely bustling atmosphere but it never gets noisy. The service was friendly but professional. The food was delicious. It was good value considering the prices you pay in other restaurants which are not half as good. Definitely will go back.

Made a booking for Saturday night at 9pm. We arrived and the table wasn’t quite ready but they sat as at the wine bar and we ordered drinks, which was fine with us. They were very apologetic about it and because the atmosphere of the restaurant was so great, we didn’t mind at all. We got seated not long after down the back of the restaurant in the main part and there was also a great atmosphere there as well. My partner order the gnocchi and I ordered the French onion soup to begin with, both were delicious. I ordered the steak and my partner ordered the monkfish and I was so impressed with my steak and my partner absolutely loved his fish. We then had the chocolate soufflé for dessert and it was gorgeous. We had an amazing time here. The staff were so friendly and very attentive. One of my new favourites in Dublin. Love it and would recommend it to anyone, especially for a special occasion.

Peploes Wine Bistro Thoroughly enjoyed our late, long Saturday afternoon lunch here. For a nice treat we went here last Saturday and were not disappointed. We both opted went for a starter and main course. The choice for the mains is excellent with most averaging €17 which is expensive but for the quality of the food was good. The wine list was huge however we found difficulty selecting a not too expensive lunchtime wine. I will definitely go back next time we decide we deserve a treat.

Dined here for the first time on Friday with 3 other friends and had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. The food was delectable.... started with the Bruschetta (delicious!) followed by the prawns and monkfish which was also delightful. The interior and ambiance in Peploes is what many come back for - lovely bustling atmosphere but not too loud...a perfect restaurant for a romantic dinner or equally for a group dinner. The dessert was the crème de la crème though - Mocca Souffle, absolutely divine! Portion size was perfect for me though my husband thought they could have been a bit more generous with the venison he ordered, which he loved! Waiter was pleasant, but could have perhaps been a little friendlier but the rest of the staff were very friendly. The meal cost us €248 for 4 people (for full 3 course meal each and a bottle of vino and bottled watered). All in all, had a lovely evening and will definitely be back.

Peploes is for the last 3 years an institution. You walk inside and the place amazed you, the details, the painting, the set up of the cellar, most of the staff are very friendly.

Dined here on Saturday night and had a fantastic experience. There was a great choice on both the food and wine menus. Not your typical affair, which you can cook at home yourself. The service was excellent and the food. An experience worth every penny. I will definitely be back.

My fiancée and I dined here along with my sister in law and her husband and had a fantastic night. The staff were so friendly and helpful, the choice of wine was great and the food was top drawer. But it was the atmosphere that made our night, just a great feel to the place. Would highly recommend the place.

This restaurant has all the worse excesses of the Celtic Tiger - very expensive, small portions and won't last much longer than when people start looking for value.

Peploes was recommended to me by a friend who was a big fan of the place. We went on a Thursday evening and could only get a booking for 6.15 but had to be out by 8 (this drives me mad!) I would not normally eat that early but in fairness, it was reserved at short notice. I had been on a day off that day so was dressed pretty casually, which didn't impress our waiter at all; we were shoved into a corner table and kept out of sight of all the other customers in suits. The room itself is nice enough though quite noisy when full. However I was not keen on the rather naff mural along the main wall, I thought it really cheapened the interior. We were given some very nice bread while we mulled over the menu. I ordered the French onion soup, which was nice but I felt didn't have enough bread and cheese on top, so lacked some substance. I had the sirloin steak for main course, which really was very nice and cooked, as I had ordered. My partner's meal was also very nice but we did feel a little uncomfortable and felt that the waiter, though competent, was unfriendly and trying to get rid of us (it's not as if I was wearing a tracksuit or anything!) We skipped dessert as we didn't feel like staying and asked for the bill. It was pretty expensive, particularly as dishes don't come with vegetables, which must be ordered separately but I was incensed to discover that they had charged us 5.50 for what seemed like tapwater! Rip-off Ireland strikes again. So, overall even though the food was good, I wouldn't be rushing back unless I was wearing a suit and ideally someone else was paying...

I went here on the recommendation of a friend who loves the place, but I'll never come here again. On my visit there was no vegetarian option on the menu for a main course. I had to ask the waiter who said to me well what do you want? Well if I'd known that I would have come prepared! What I ended up with was a pasta dish with a selection of beans for some reason. It wasn't great at all. To top it off we ordered water which didn't arrive so we asked another waiter to bring us water. When he did it was a jug of tap water, which was perfectly fine with us, but on my way to the toilet I overheard our waiter giving off loudly to the waiter who had brought us the water because he should have brought us a bottle of water - which is €5 a pop. Our waiter then had the audacity to charge us for this bottle of water when he totted up our bill!!

We were staying around the corner and out for an evening stroll..........found Peploes and wandered in for a glass of wine. Intrigued to find a restaurant named after a Scottish colourist! Enjoyed our drink and (on a Sunday night) were intrigued to see the place get so busy. Quickly put our name down for a table. Food was great - I had langoustines and my partner had John Dory. We usually eat off one another's plates - no way! We both wanted our own! Dessert was a mocha souffle - my partner adored it so much he had a second! I don't do puds, but we did have an amazing red dessert wine - Elysium. Recommended by the very friendly waitress, who even told us where to source it. We brought 2 bottles home (they're still intact). We will definitely return, and although not especially cheap - you get what you pay for. Top place.

Was in Peploes for a glass of wine last Tuesday with my wife, we were trying to decide whether we would have a bite to eat at the bar or see if there was a table in the restaurant proper. As we started our second bottle we were advised that there was a table ready if we wanted it. We had a great meal not that that surprised me we always eat very well there. I started with scallops perfectly cooked only problem was I could have eaten that dish twice, the other starter was white asparagus and smoked salmon soup also very good, the main courses were, for me halibut and for her baked whole sea bass and where they were very good the garnishes were almost identical which stops you wanting to pick off your partners plate. I had a creme brulee to finish which was good but a little overcooked. These little things like overcooked brulee and garnishing are what stop this restaurant joining the great restaurants in Dublin, but having said that you cannot beat Peploes for their great wine bar and what in reality is really good food and service and at a very reasonable price, well done to everybody involved.

Went there last night for dinner with a friend at 6. They weren't quite ready for us when we arrived and invited us to sit at the bar. It was empty but began to fill up really quickly. I had the tomato soup for starters and they put a small dollop of crème fraiche in the middle of it, which was really nice. For main course I had the rabbit dish with mash potato, it was absolutely delicious. The staff are very nice too. My friend had the bruschetta and tuna steak and loved it. I would definitely go back.

Was there last Saturday and all in all was a little disappointed. I had the morteau sausage to start with and while it was so tasty there were only 3 small pieces and it was way over priced at €9.50. I then had the venison which was lovely although again it was a little on the pricey side for the size of the portion. The atmosphere and service were good but I won't be rushing back.

This restaurant WAS fantastic when it opened first. We really enjoyed our first meal here but when we returned for a second visit recently we were very disappointed. I should have known from the tone and rushed manner in which my reservation phone call was dealt with that maybe all was not as it had been 12months previously in Peploes. The food is good and the decor is beautiful but the staff are unhelpful and nothing short of rude. I was hopeful that maybe we had just gotten them on a bad night but I have since heard similar reports from friends and work colleagues - it is such a shame to see a great restaurant ruined by it's front of house people.

Booked weeks in advance and was really looking forward to my ‘hot’(!) date with my boyf in Peploes… Boy, was I disappointed… The décor and atmosphere were great, the service was friendly and attentive however we were never informed of the specials but I overheard our waiter telling the table beside us as they ordered… We choose our wine and then our waiter recommended a different one which was on special, it was quite nice. I had the French onion soup to start which was delicious however the heat in the restaurant was unbelieveable and my soup obviously just made me hotter!… I’m not exagerating when I say the sweat was pumping off the waiters, I actually felt sorry for them having to work in the heat and it was quite off putting knowing they were handling our food. Anyway, my partner had the morteau sausage to start and we both had the steak, medium/well… Well, mine was still quite pink in parts so I kinda ate around it. Anyway, because of the heat we skipped dessert and got out to the fresh air asap, needless to say I wont be rushing back or recommending Peploes.

Would never go back. Was there as part of a group for dinner. The service was appalling. The waiter was incredibly surly and rude. Dictated to us, which menus we could choose from saying we all had to either pick, from the full menu or from the set menu. We couldn't mix it up. Was very sarcastic taking our orders breathing down our necks to hurry us along. We then waited ages for our food. Mine was worse than average. I had bruschetta that was like something from a convenience store. Burnt bread, soggy topping and just yuck. Then I had linguine with clams. The linguine was smothered in a heavy cream sauce to hide the lack of clams of which there was a paltry amount. And the clams I found were rubbery. I was so disappointed with the food that I didn't even try a dessert. A pity, I had been looking forward to trying it out but will not go again.

We had lunch here last Saturday. Lovely room considering this is a basement that was once a bank vault. Service was very attentive even if the waiter that took our order was very surly. We had rocket salad & duck liver pate to start. Salad was tasty. Pate was straight out of a fridge so while very good was very cold. Our mains were Pork with Marsala sauce, which was very rich, but then again it would be. I had fish pie, which was gorgeous. Best fish pie ever! We skipped dessert & headed for a nearby wine bar for a cheese plate. Food was very good value i.e. the fish pie was €12.50. The wine while expensive could have been worse. I have seen higher prices at other restaurants. Looking around the room it was very much ladies that lunch. Couples were in the minority. We had some problems with the visa machine, as did the couple two tables down. We had a bad moment where we wondered whether we would need to wash dishes for our dinner. I'd come again. I like the location & the food was good value. We haven eaten here before but in the bar area which is even better value.

I was due to eat in another restaurant on Sat night and when we got there found out they had given our table away, needless to say not too impressed but decided well give Peploes a shot in the dark and needless to say within a half hour we were eating one of the nicest meals I’ve had in a long time, food was amazing and the wine list is superb. Really good atmosphere and service was prompt and polite. Definitely be going back.

The room is very good, even when busy and they'll sit you in the bar, take the seat its fine, I prefer this slightly more relaxed environment. The staff are intellegent and appear to be well informed in the food and wine. Scallops to start were supurb, fresh and beautifully caramalized, the monkfish and languastine skewer on tomato salad was good, although felt there was a missing ingredient. I finished with the lemon tarte, well executed. Will always recommend Peploes, a good evening out.

Haven't eaten in the restaurant part but I would recommend eating at the bar in Peploes. Popped in here with my aunt for a bite to eat, as she loves the buzzy atmosphere. Took a table at the corner of the bar (Great for people watching!), and we had two well cooked fillet steaks. The bar menu isn't as expensive and the wine is excellent! Overall, a legendary place!

Only OK, I went for a girlie lunch 2 weeks ago and was very disappointed by the service and value for money. We were given the bill without even asking for it (subtle hint or what?). Wine was corked and no replacement given, not the standards I would expect from a so-called wine bar!

We went to Peploes for lunch recently and liked it so much we went back there two days later! The atmosphere is really cosy and buzzy - somehow even though it's always full, it never gets noisy or feels intrusive. The food is luxurious comfort food - I suspect they have a heavy hand with the butter, but the results are so good you'd forgive them and it certainly wouldn't stop me ordering several more courses (damn the consequences!). I'd recommend Peploes in a flash, and it's great for groups of people as there's something for everyone on the menu.

Wonderful place, especially for lunch. There is something about the cosy atmosphere that makes the place so appealing, a far cry from lots of other restaurants with an excess of glass and chrome fittings. The food is simple and straightforward, homely and morish -the fish pie is a standout. I have found the service to be always of a good standard. Also, the lunch-menu, for the quality of the food that you get and the standard of service is one of the best value places in town. On our last visit we were so happily ensconced that we ordered another bottle of wine after dessert so that we could stay for longer! One of the best in Dublin.

We went to Peploes for dinner there recently and had an absolutely fantastic time! The food was divine, the atmosphere was buzzing and we really felt we were out for a special dinner. The prices are a little on the steep side, but no more expensive than what other less impressive restaurants are charging. My only gripe, and it is a small one, is that the staff were a bit too business like, but they were very professional and were keeping things moving smoothly on what was a very busy night. We will definitely be going back again!

Nice food, very disappointing service. Wine was corked and they didn't offer to replace the bottle, instead removed cork from the wineglass with a knife! Then with the second bottle they poured without letting us taste. Forgot to bring our coffees with dessert and when we reminded them they told us that they needed the table back in ten mins. Terrible service for a restaurant pitching itself at this level. Needless to say I won't be rushing back.

I have been here on two occasions, first time I had a steak, which was without a doubt the most delicious steak I have ever eaten, and 2nd time I had the monkfish & prawn skewers they were superb. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for, as is the pear and plum tart. I think it is very good value for money. I can’t wait for visit number 3.

Great spot this for a meal. Can at times have some obnoxious clientele but the food and staff are amazing and the restaurant is beautiful there lamb is the best dish. Great wine list to. Don’t order the water in the blue bottle 2 euro per head its just tap water in a fancy bottle!! Would really recommend this place though especially to couples.

Excellent. Really liked this place nice atmosphere, friendly service, and great food. Bit pricey but it was value for money and I wasn't paying! :o)

Ate here on New Year's Eve at 6pm sitting - could not fault food or service. Expensive meal, but maybe that's to be expected on the night in question! My favourite restaurant at present!

Lovely place, nice food and VERY good service. Beware at Christmas time though when it is taken over by girly nights out - my boyfriend was terrified as there were only two men in the place when we were there.

It must be a two faced restaurant... I spent one of my worst evenings in a restaurant: Food was very average, pretentious, not tasty and not well presented. Service was appalling: champagne ordered at the bar did not make it to the table, we were rudely asked to order last drinks at 11pm before closing, waiting forever before ordering, ignored by the waiters until they decided to hurry our dinner up. Atmosphere was terrible: wobbly table in the way of the waiters, very noisy, and what about the huge poorly painted wall full of celebrities with the owner in the middle... Prices are ridiculously high of course.

Have been here twice, once for lunch and once for dinner and both times the food and service were faultless. Fabulous place for a special occasion or a treat!

Went expecting it to be great after all the reviews. Big mistake. Over crowded poor service, cold food and quite a long delay, perhaps just because of Christmas but even more reason for service to be excellent.

Friendly but professional service, smart décor and superb food makes Peploes the most stylish restaurant in Dublin.

Excellent food and incredibly professional staff. I was hugely impressed and would eat at Peploes much more often....if only I could afford it! A big thumbs up!

Have eaten here on a regular basis for the last 18 months or so, I often grab a bite at the bar of the small menu, where unfortunately the food becomes secondary while I get lost in the Wine menu. Other than a salty onion soup on one occasion we have never had a problem in Peploes, they could do with a little variation on the small menu, I think I have tried everything more than once, but overall a great place, well done on bringing good food and wine together in a relaxed atmosphere.

A group of us had a lovely evening here, there was 15 of us in total, all different ages and tastes. The meal, drinks, desserts etc were top class. Service & atmosphere were wonderful. Highly recommend for a group or a romantic dinner for two!

This was our 1st visit but will not be the last. Great atmosphere, lively, bright and bubbly. Excellent food with a wonderful wine listing. Service was professional but lacked warmth. Well worth a visit and very central, close to Luas

Amazing! We were wandering around after finding out the place we wanted to go to was booked, I remembered that Peploes was one of the recommended restaurants for work lunches/dinners so decided to try there. We got a seat in the bar area, nice and cosy. Started with the goats cheese and then venison and milk-fed veal for mains. Every single thing on the plate was so incredibly tasty, all the garnishes, sauces, everything!! Great wine and great service. Very attentive but not ponsy.
