Ate here last night and arrived just before 7 so was in time for the value meal (although I saw the waiters give it to people who arrived just before 8). I had the onion bhajee for starters followed by the jhinga pathia, prawns in a sweet and sour curry sauce. The prawns came with rice or naan bread, I chose the naan bread. The food was delicious. Really really tasty. I don't like curries, but this wasn't a curry like we know it. There were only 6 king prawns in the dish but it was just enough. The sauce was beautiful and I ate most of it with the naan bread. The service however wasn't what I expected. I arrived just after a couple whose coats were being taken as I sat down. We got the menus at the same time, but I was then ignored for about 10 minutes before the waiter eventually decided to take my order although I was clearly ready to order and the other couple had ordered and received their drinks. While I was eating, the waiter walked around and asked the others how their meal was, again I was ignored. The food was lovely, but that particular waiter would put me off going again.

Had Poleko Squid for starter - very tender and nicely spiced followed by Lamb Ledo Bedo which was not as tender as the lamb in a friends dish - but still tasty with plenty of sauce. Peshwari Naan was delicious - and the night was finished with a complimentary liquer - which was a nice touch,

This comfortable hidden gem was a fantastic for a midweek meal. We chose the Early Bird menu, 3 courses for approx €21. The staff are friendly and helpful, without being overbearing. To start I had the lamb kebab, which came out sizzling and was utterly delicious, seasoned with coriander. My boyfriend had the lentil soup, which was warming and comforting on a rainy night. For mains, I chose Chicken Pahadi with Naan bread and my boyfriend Lamb with Cauliflower and rice. Both were extremely tasty and we shared each other's. The meat tender, and the bread and rice plentiful. For dessert, Nepali icecream (I think papaya flavour) We chose the house red, a steal at €16 and a glass of dessert wine to finish it off. Thorougly enjoyable meal, will be back.

Visited Monty's with a girlfriend on Friday last, only telephoned from around the corner to see if they had a table, reckon it was quiet because of Oxygen Festival. Got a table upstairs, only gripe about the whole evening was the size of the table - way too small for 2 people, ended up using table beside us (when free) for side dishes etc. They should seriously consider larger tables. The food, however, was excellent. We asked if they had the dumplings that a friend had recommended but require 24 hours advance booking, lucky for us they did, they were delicious and I would thoroughly recommend them. For mains we shared the lamb sashlik, very nice barbequed lamb with onions and peppers, an aubergine side dish, rice and naan. All very good. Very quiet Temple Bar generally and the restaurant was empty except for ourselves at 22:30! Will be back, and will definitely ask for a large table.

Visited Monty's last Fri night & hadn't been there in several years. Was so impressed with the food, decided to set up a menu pages a/c! Food was simply divine, and not hugely expensive either. Service was pretty slow, they seemed short staffed on the night, but waiter brought over 2 drinks on the house to apologise for the delay. Was worth the wait! Go eat there!

We only had a quick lunch to see if it would be worth to go for dinner, and we both loved it, we thought the portions were not too bad (considering portions in Indian/Asian restaurants) and the quality was good also. We had the lunch menu this time but we look forward to try the a la carte menu next time.

Went here for the first time on Friday and after hearing lots goods things about the place I was a little disappointed. There was quite a nice atmosphere and the staff were polite and attentive and the food relatively good, so it could have been that it had been built up so much by people I know that it was never going to live up to the billing I had Padhai Chicken (think that the right spelling), a medium spiced chicken and potatoe curry. It tasted nice and but the portion was small and it was just a curry, nothing special. I can honestly say I've had nicer curry's from my local family run indian takeaway (I know Monty's is Nepalese but the ingredients and types of curry are almost indentical). I don't want to knock the place because there was nothing wrong with it. I just wouldn't be rushing to recommend it to people.

We went here as a group of 8 and had heard such good reviews of the place from various people. The service was good and the waiters were attentive. The food came out very fast and everyone was very happy with their starters. The mains were all very tasty however they weren't overly warm and one of the girls had asked for her dish very mild and it came out very spicy by all our standards. The waiter was quick to offer to replace the dish and her replacement milder dish came out within a few minutes. very good value for money and as the restaurant was very busy it was obvious to all that it was somewhere that had a very good reputation. would recommend it to friends as a cosy place to go for tasty meals and if under time constraints.

7 of us went to Montys last week and it was a good experience. The service was quick and the staff were friendly. I had the Tareko Sabji deep fried vegetable balls which were very tasty and the chicken babari, a masala sauce with mint and boiled rice. They went out of their way to do extra mild dishes for someone who wasnt used to Indian food and had coeliac friendly food too. We had to leave the table at 9.00 but by the time we sorted the bill and finished our wine it was 9.15 and they were still polite and didnt hurry us. I would go here ago for good service and delicious food.

I had heard great things about Monty's over the passed few years but for some reason never got around to trying it. We eventually decided to go one Monday evening to celebrate a birthday, there were only two other couples in the restaurant that night and we were grateful as the restaurant is tiny. The seats are tiny, the tables are tiny, the space between the tables is tiny. I was glad there was no one sitting next to us as I would literally have had to eat with my coat and handbag on my lap! Our portions weren't tiny but they weren't as generous as some Indian restaurants what we have been too. We really didn't have enough room on our table to accommodate our plates, our main course dishes and the rice dishes as well as out drinks... what do they do in this place when it is busy?!?! The food was OK, maybe I had been building the place up in my mind as I had read so many good reviews of it. The prawns I ordered though cooked were only lukewarm while the sauce was piping hot. The staff were very indifferent and hard to catch hold of. Quite the opposite of every other Indian/Nepalese/Pakistani establishment I have ever visited in this country. The telephone was right in the middle of the restaurant and while I expect that a decent business will get a lot of phone calls this phone was ringing constantly, my major grip was that it was REALLY loud and had a REALLY irritating tone. Either lower the volume and change the tone or move it, it totally destroys the atmosphere. On the plus side the restaurant is decorated nicely.

We had dinner in Montys just after christmas with two friends . We had never had Nepalese food before and were keen to try it.The food was excellent very well flavoured and good portion sizes i paticularly loved the different selections of Naan Bread available. The staff were very helpful and nothing was a problem for them.Everyone at the table enjoyed their meal even the very fussy eaters. I suggest if you havent tried Nepalese food try it here first.!!!

Had a family meal here for 10 people. Food and service were excellent as usual and all (diverse group) had nothing but praise for the meal and the service which was particularly good for a party of this size. This restaurant consistently delivers high quality food, excellent service at very good prices. Food tastes so good - not too spicy and great variety.

We arrived at Montys this evening and checked out the early bird menu. It looked extensive and we were drawn in by the cosy interior and the thought of some award-winning Nepalese curry. We were, however, quite disappointed with the food, considering all the awards you see upon entry. The choice on the early bird menu was poor but we liked the sound of what we ordered. When the starters of Chicken Wings and King Prawns arrived, we felt they looked a bit dismal - the Wings were quite fatty and unappetising and the Prawns were bland and over-fried. The mains of the Prawn Curry and Lamb Curry were tasty, but there could have been more. The dessert included on the menu was different and surprisingly nice, however, over all we felt that the food was not at the standard we expected, and for the prices they charge, we could have gotten something spectacular somewhere else. I don't think we will return.

Having heard people rave about this place, I brought my husband to celebrate his birthday. Given that it was a Wednesday in January it wasn't surprising that there were only a handful of people in the place. Our waiter was a bit timid but not rude. another waiter took over in the middle of our meal and he was a lot more friendly. the decor was fairly cool with the dark wood. It was cosy. We were seated in the window which I never really like but I think they were trying to make the place look busy from the street. The starters were both huge- as much as I would normally eat for a full meal at home. They were both lovely though. Poppadums were served before the starters as well. I had a glass of Pinot Grigio and that was super. For vegetarians, there is an abundance of choice. One gripe would be that I ordered my food to be hot (in spiciness) and it was medium at a push. The waiter took it back and the chef stuck some extra chillies in it but it just didn't make any difference. It was gorgeous though despite that. The rice is lovely and the naans were beuatifully soft and buttery. I would go back here but I think it would be better on a busy night with a bit of atmostphere. It's not too expensive. Our meal was around 60 Euro for two starters, main courses, two beers and a glass of wine. There is an early value meal that ends at 6.30 which I think is 25 Euro per person.

Second time eating here. Great comprehensive coeliac Menu. Service was slow. It was busy with only two staff on duty. Starters, mains and sides were very tasty. I asked for a mild curry and my mouth nearly went on fire, the slow service and lack of water didn't help. It's cosy enough, perhaps a bit squashed as it's a small restaurant. I'm not sure if they use downstairs. The decor does help build an atmosphere and it wouldn't be the worst place for a date in Temple Bar. It is still priced in pre-recession prices and I think they'd need to look at how much they charge for a prawn curry.

Went to a packed Montys for the first time last Saturday week, so packed they were turning alot of people away. I must say it was absolutely superb service and food was just perfect. I had the spicey potatoes to start and couldn't finish them because the portion was so generous. My wife had the cubes of minced lamb which were just mouth watering ! Traditional nepali curry and tikka massala for the mains were the nicest we had eaten in any curry house in a long time. Topped off with a bottle of Sav Blanc a very cheap night out , will definitely be returning ! Tried to book a table online thru menupages but they said they don't take bookings on Fri/Sat night, however they took a booking over the phone so keep that in mind !!!

Ate here for the first time recently and was very impressed. The food was beautiful, full of taste but not too spicy. Everyone at our table had nothing but compliments for the chef. The staff were lovely and had no problem with the fact that we were forty minutes late due to traffic.I will be going back again for sure.

Went to Monty's as I had not tried nepalese food before and thought that, if anything, I would get an enjoyable new experience. However, this was one of the more expensive and least enjoyable meals I have eaten in Dublin. Myself and my other half shared the starter plate for 2, a usual favourite of mine as involves a bit of variety and can be quite fun. However, this lacked any sort of invention or flare. For main, I chose the jumbo prawns, another favourite of mine. I'm not sure about the physical size of the nepalese, but they must be tiny if they are calling the prawns jumbo. The variety of spices and sauces used blended into quite a bland sauce and what I was presented with quite a generic main, not unlike a bad indian. Adding an unremarkable atmosphere and average service to the poor quality of the meal made the 110 euro price tag on a meal for 2 seem somewhat excessive. You won't be repulsed by the food, but with the variety of restuarants in Dublin your money could be spent much more wisely elsewhere.

We'd been meaning to try Monty's for years; to be honest, we'd forgotten about it 'til we read the reviews of the newer restaurant in Rathgar so we decided to try out the original in Temple Bar. On arrival we were told that the microbrewery beer is off the menu due to the Groceries Order/Act which is a real shame. On the plus side, the momos are now available every evening as opposed to only if ordered 24 hours in advance. We tried the chicken version and loved them. While the chutney didn't look exciting, it packed a great punch. I'd be back for them alone. I was really impressed by the range of half wine bottles; the proprietor has an interest in wine and it really shows so full marks there. It's not something you see in many restaurants, particularly those serving Asian food. Our mains (chicken, lamb, pulao rice and aloo) were delicious. The service was friendly and prompt. Ok, it's a little tight space wise but we'd rather have been upstairs with all the action than downstairs where it was still empty-ish before 8. We're already planning our next visit back. Hopefully something can be done to restore the microbrewery beer to the menu!

Ate here with family and was delighted with the quality of good and service. Choice on the early bird was not great so we all went for the regular menu. Every single person thought their food was fab and v traditional not like Indian food which can be very oily and amended for irish taste. Can't wait to go back!

Ate here last Thursday. We chose from the value meal menu l which had a great selection to choose from. I had the aloo chomp & chicken masala & my boyfriend had the onion bhajee & sweet & sour prawns. I wasnt keen on my aloo chomp but the onion bhajee was very tasty. Both the chicken & prawn dishes were full of flavour. The dessert was a cake made from maize ( I think) & ice-cream. Service was excellent. Before our starters we were also given complimentary papadomas & chutneys. €20.95 each for the 3 courses

Have always loved Monty's, I come back time and time again and am never disappointed. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the food is delicious. My favourite is ledo bedo which you can have with your choice of meat or veg. They are also very happy to make your dish to suit your taste depending on how hot or mild you'd like it. The squid to start with is also a winner, brought out on a sizzling platter with enough to share if you're feeling generous. They also run courses so once you discover your taste for Nepalese cuisine you can sign up and learn how to make it yourself, though somehow I think I'll still be back to sample their cooking.

I love Monty's. I've always passed this place and had never been in so decided to take the plunge a few weeks back with my other half. Nepalese food is quite like Indian food, with lots of bhajis and curries. The boyfriend had the veggie Paneer dish with mushroom rice which he loved, and I had the Navartna mixed veg curry with a Chana Massala as a side. Both were divine and very filling! I am really keen to go back and try so many of the dishes (in particular the Bhaynta Tarkari, the Dhall and the Subji starter). The staff are friendly and it's a nice atmosphere. I have already printed my voucher for a free bottle of wine and hope to return here with my father next week!

We went here because we heard lots of good things about this place. They had a good deal on too, a tasting menu with a bottle of wine for 75 euro. I've seen similar deals around like this, and normally they're cheaper but we wanted to try food from Nepal. The dining room is nice but the tables are a bit too close together. I almost felt like I was on top of the table next to us. The service was very good as was the wine that came with our meal. The food was really nice, the started was interesting as it was lots of little starters. Our waiter gave us a very insightful story on how the main course is traditionally eaten which was helpful! We were so full upon leaving!

FANTASTIC : Went back to Monty's after a couple of years on Sat p.m. Welcome was wonderful, seated immediately and found our fave Lebanese wine (not available during troubled times - Kefraya) on list. We were served a glass of Prosecco to welcome us back :-) I had the Kachela to start - spicy and amazing. My hubby had the lamb choila (too many onions) but yummy. We ordered prawns and can't remember what he had - both to die for. Naan bread. Bottle of the Kefraya, bottle of still water and it was amazing. Service superb but not in your face - everyone was looked after. Irish coffees to finish and we were happy to go home. Can't wait to get back in with the kids to let them try the food :-) €120 approx and worth every penny.

We had a table for 2 booked and we were seated as soon as we got in. I found the staff were fantastic and very knowledgeable about the menu. I would say they were quiet old fashioned though as every question was directed at my partner but it helped me feel like I had escaped Dublin for a couple of hours. I loved the decor too. And on to the food..I don't remember a better meal. Everything was so tasty I enjoyed every mounthful and I was still thinking about the food a couple of weeks later. It is not cheap but it is good value as everything was great. Have reccommended this place to many friends, just waiting for another special occasion to book dinner there again.

We didnt have a reservation, popped in at 7pm on a Fri, got a table for 2. The food here is delicious, tastiest meal I have had out in a while (food you cant cook at home!) The lamb was really tender & not too spicy. My husband doesn't like Indian food but he loved here. The starter was really good but a little dry & should have come with a chutney or some type of dip. Came to E50 for one starter, two mains & two drinks, not cheap but I will go back! Service was good too but yes as others here have said here the decor isn't great but the food makes up for it
Response:
Hi Manflick, not sure what you drank but €50 for what you had sounds pretty good to me - especially with service, location and quality of the food. Ciao

had an enjoyable meal here with a couple of friends last night. The food wasnt perfect but overall the standard was good. The complimentary poppodums and dips were tasty and I had a deliciously spicy Aloo Kerau Chat Pat for starters. You'd want to like your food hot (which I do) as my mouth was really tingling after. My main of prawn dhansak was a bit disappointing. The prawns were overcooked and chewy though the flavour was good. Everybody seemed pretty happy overall. I'd probably go back to sample a few more things, particularly for their early bird which looks like good value, though we were too late for it.

Disappointing night out. We were seated so close to the door with a lot of seats free. Restaurant is very conjusted. Decor...is Formality...Not Exciting.Wine list was not presented for 10 mints and no drinks order were taken either. Finally we ordered a wine which was warm, got a ice cooler with 2 cubes of ice supposed to chill 75cl wine..I do not get it.Pappaums were nice, onion relish was spicy yummy. Starter i had a potato thing on poppadum. Starter were nice but poppadum was too soggy on which it was served. A little bit of yogurt wud have added the tinge to the appetizers. Mains were disaster. We ordered Channa,Panner& Zeera Aloo.Potatoes were in chickpea dish and i adressed it to waiter he said its minced potato rather it was cubes of potato.Channa was very tomatoy,no flavors at all. Paneer dish has green peas in it & they were rock hard and i adressed it to manager he said thats the only way they come,so we changd dish to dal which was hard as well as its channa dal. Zeera aloo was very tasty. Parantha was nice.Service was unattentive and formality. But i am honestly surprised with the backing of so many critics backing Monty's. Is it Nepalese version of Indian cuisine which is missing a lot of woo's and ooze.......Asian food is full of zest & flavors which were mising big time ....

My new favourite restaurant! I loved this place, I went with three friends, food was incredible and greta value. We all got different dishes and shared, the tastes were amazing. The staff were excellent, they made us feel like we were the only people in there, explaining all the ingredients and recommending dishes. To top it all off they brought us each a complimentary glass of wine, this was a really nice gesture as I have never experienced this before in Ireland! Excellent value....will come here as much as I can!

This was a birthday celebration; myself and my partner went into town without making a booking, we had tried a couple of other places but didn't fancy them, then ended up at Montys; definitely the right choice. The food was a delight, full of flavour, excellently presented.....both our starters were delicious, my friend had the Tareko Sabji which she thoroughly enjoyed, whilst I had the prawns...gorgeous. For the mains my partner had the Gorkhali – Chicken, which was superb. I had the lamb Gol Chulo Ko Khana Haru, I don’t know when I had lamb as tender and as flavoursome. Excellent side dishes, the Peshwari Nan has indeed been stolen from heaven. Throw in fine service and a great atmosphere...all round an outstanding meal, a superb evening. If you haven’t been give it a try.

My family ate here last Saturday at 5:30 (just when it opended). I thought it would be empty but the place was half full. We got a mixture of starters including the platter which went down very well. Loads for 3 people. Main courses were a mixture of curries including a interesting green one!!!! Naan bread was lovely Garlic and Peshwari. No time for dessert but hopefully will be back when I have more time. Bill came to 300 EURO for 6 people so not that cheap with I thought it was well worth it.

Food nice, service ok, bit expensive in the current climate and early bird does not have a great selection! Would go again but would be a more frequent visitor if prices were better!

A group of us eat here on New Years Eve and had a great night. The atmosphere was good and we were well looked after. As I am not too educated on nepalese/indian food I do not have much experience to base my review on, but I definately enjoyed it and so did all my group who would have eaten it before. The highlights of the night were the prawns, squid, monkfish and tandorri lamb. The naan bread was also gorgeous and we were all given a complimentary drink afterwards which was a nice touch, Montys has definately changed my opinion on indian food and I will almost certainly go back.

Booked through MenuPages and went for meal for 5 people last Saturday evening. We were looking for something a little different, but a lot of Monty's stuff you'd see on most Indian restaurants - I know Nepal is not a million miles away so can't really complain. The food was good - nobody had a bad word to say about anything they ordered. The Squid for starters were particularly good, various curries and lamb dishes were had for the mains - all good.

Went there for lunch and place was empty - didn't really matter as there was eight of us on a christmas lunch. It was a bit of a shame it wasn't busier. The only other thing to say on a negative note is we were cold and asked for the heating to be turned up! However, food was gorgeous and would highly reccommend. I went for the Prawns to start, Chicken main which came with naan bread and rice... washed down with some lovely tiger beers. Really good food and great value at under 25euro which is a bargain.

This was a return visit to Montys after a 7 month absence. It was a quiet Monday night with only 4 tables occupied so the atmos was a bit flat. Saying that I was in good company and as always the fare on offer was flavoursome and well prepared. I chose the King Prawns for starters and the Lamb Masala for mains as I would not be a lover of hot dishes and usually keep it mild. For desert I choose warm Mango and Ice cream which was a lovely contrast. Only one small fly in the ointment and that was the coffees tasted stale as if they were filtered and sitting there all night. Makes me wonder whether my decaf was really decaf as my friend ordered an ordinary and both were stale. Other than that we had another lovely meal at Montys and I would not hesitate to return.

Ate from the early bird menu here on Saturday. I had been looking forward to eating here for a while now and was not disappointed. Everything we ordered was very tasty, with excellent quality meat. Perhaps more choice on the menu would have been good but for 22Euro each it was excellent value, Also there house wine is brilliantly priced at 19Euro!

Went here at the last minute after the restaurant across the street was busy and had heard good things about the place. Although the service was eficient and the atmosphere is pleasant, I found it very poor value. The mains were decent but nothing out of the ordinary, and at fifteen to twenty euro per dish (which doesn't include rice) I expect something superior to the local Indian takeaway.

This is a nice spot. There was a musty smell when I first arrived but I wanted to give this place the benefit of the doubt as I had heard a lot of good things about it. The wine is very reasonably priced and the early bird had a good selection. The mains were really good and I went for the tikka masala which was scrumptious. Overall everyone agreed that the food for the starters and mains was of a superior quality. With regard to the dessert menu it is not a house specialty. We were told there was a dessert of the day which was a sweet potato sort of a thing. We gave it a try and ....not very nice. They could definitely improve things in this area as this was the only dessert available except ice-cream. I would go back there though as the rest of the meal was so lovely.

Went to the theatre with a colleague and we couldn't deicide where to eat. Went into Monty's on the basis of previous good comments. Had 50 minutes to eat and decided to go for a main course and a dessert. Got off to a bad start when we were served poppadoms - they may have been free, but they were also stale! Happy to say that my Bhutuwa - Chicken with Mushroom Rice and my colleague's lamb dish was wonderful. A very, very enjoyable meal. Priced on the high side, but this is a place to which I'll return

Despite coming in early we decided against the early bird specials as they had very limited choice, yet were pretty expensive. The menu a la carte is quite extensive though, if a little on the expensive side, and the meal itself was fantastic, as was service. Perfect for a romantic meal.

Visited Montys during the summer with my girlfriend and the food was lovely. I had lamb and she had prawns and were both pleased with the meal. The only fault i could find with it was that it was expensive. As we were ordering, we were informed that the dishes (@22e) did not include sauce or rice and were literally as described - lamb and prawns. Taking into account the extras for sauce, naan and rice and a drink each, the bill came to over 75euro - no starters or desert.... While the food was undoubtedly delicious, we just felt it was overpriced.

Had one of their special deals but to be honest I think it would have been cheaper if we had ordered everything seperately. The food was gorgeous but was disappointed that the deal felt like a bit of a rip off considering what you got for the price. Will go back but will not go for one of their so called 'deals'. Must say though the new decor is gorgeous and much more intimate and cosy than it was. Staff and service very good.

We had the €75 two course special. Food was absolutely delicious, the papads and dip are yummy and the starter platter was very nice. However, I dont think for what we got and the portion size of the main course that it offered particularly good value for money considering it was a Sunday night, I think they could lower the price of this menu. Service was very good and the staff take the effort to explain the menu to you.

Monty's is a real favourite of mine! For lunch or dinner, it never disappoints. The decor isn't great and it can be very quiet at lunchtime but the food is outstanding and its always full at the weekends. I ate here with two friends last week and as usual we had a great meal. Try the prawns and the squid to start. The monkfish is a speciality but I love the spicy chicken for mains. The peshwari naan bread is a must. Its very reasonable value and the staff are friendly and polite. The best Indian/Nepalese place around, no doubt!

I was here as part of a large party and I have to say that it was very nice indeed. While there were some questions raised over the authenticity of some of the dishes (chicken wings in Nepal?), to be fair they were good quality and well prepared. We tried the tasting menu which I personally did not think was very good value for the portion sizes and choice of what we got, but it worked out well for a large group as we had a chance to sample a range of very different dishes. The environment and atmosphere was very good and the staff were attentive and very accommodating for such a large group. I would hesitate to pay such inflated prices for a meal out on my own and while my appreciation may have been fuelled by generous amounts of wine, I did thoroughly enjoy my meal on the night.

Had a fantastic saturday night date here with my boyfriend who doesn't normally like any kind of asian / indian food but he was persuaded after this meal. we had Khasi tas lamb and the chicken choila to start both delicious and the staff were great for warning us about the spiciness of the dishes. our main courses were ledo bedo with prawn for me and monkfish for him. both were really tasty. we ordered some peshawari naan on the side which was delicious. the desserts weren't up to much (and i'd been told by people who'd been there before) but we had irish coffees and shared a dessert to finish. it was a strange nepalese carrot cake, which was interesting, although i'm not convinced it went with Irish coffee!

I had been recommended by a friend to go here. I finally got around to going on Saturday night. We were sat downstairs which was very dark (very hard to read the menu) and it kind of smelt like a toilet! I found the service quite bad we had to ask for a wine menu as they only gave us the food one when we came in and after dinner we had to ask for the desert menu. We were left sitting for ages, they were quite slow. The food was very good, I really enjoyed the meal but it is quite pricey. I would return for the food but not for the service.

I have been here with friends first and thenwith my girlfriend and also with relatives. Food is generally quite good. I really liked some of the side vegetables and the chiken tikka massala. Service is good too. Atmosphere is good if you it upstairs but I don't like it downstairs as it is too dark.

The food here is simply delicious, I have been here a number of times and love it. There is a wide variety and the taster menu's are great if you want a bit of everything, which is explained to you in detail. I do think we got good value, we had a combination platter for 2 and a seond starter of squid, 2 mains, 1 rice, 1 Naan, 2 desserts, 2 bottles of wine and 2 sambuca's for €124. I think this is good for the quality of the lovely food here and portion size which is generous. Will be back again.

We got off the Luas and hit Temple Bar this evening to see if we could find a different type of restaurant. We thought Montys looked interesting. There was a steady stream of diners, which is always good to see. The meal, while tasty, wasn't anything spectacular or very 'different' - it was much the same as other Indian meals we've had. It was rather pricey for two starters, two main courses, two beers, a Diet Coke and two coffees (€71). Can't see us rushing back any time soon - we know there's better value than that around Dublin city.

I think it's too dark to read the menu in this restaurant. It's very romantic though! Service is very good and food was really good. Early bird menu is €25 incl a glass of wine, beer or soft drinks which is not bad value in town. My friend and I really enjoyed here. I will go back there very soon.

I loved it here! The service was fantastic, the starters were amazing - we had the spicy mushrooms, spicy potatoes and lamb cubes. My main course was great, veggie curry, and my parents both loved theirs - tandoori prawns and a spicy lamb dish - but my husband wasn't too impressed with his dish, he could taste a lot of butter. I think he had the prawn Gorkhali. The pilau rice was not very flavoursome and the naan bread was a little doughy in the centre. Dessert was very unusual, but worth a try - it was a type of cake served hot with ice cream. I would definitley come back.

this place never lets you down. A group of 12 of us went there this weekend and we had the tasting menu. It was great they just bought out a bit of everything for the starter and main which was at a very reasonable €35 each and everything tasted great - of course wine and deserts were extra but we all came out nice and full for just over €50 and it was a great laugh.

Went to this restaurant for the first time due to strong recommendations from my sister. There were three of us but only one dish out of three was satisfying. There was nothing too special about my dish, the chicken in the other dish was too dry. Perhaps I was expecting too much before I went in but only to be disappointed.

Love eating here! Sat downstairs on this occasion and the renovations are much appreciated down there, the airconditioning vents are no longer visible on the walls and it fells much warmer. Food is wonderful if a little pricey but really nice for a treat. Never seem to have a problem just walking in off the street although it was very busy last time. That said, staff are always wonderful.

Wonderful! I love Montys, have been there 3 times and each time was great. Myself and two friends went just after New Years and I was really hoping it would be as as good as ever as one of my friends was a first timer! I was also very careful to mention that its a Nepalese Restaurant NOT Indian. I ordered the food and was very amused when the waiter said my pronunciation was very good with exception of the Pershwari naam (probably spelt wrong!). Once again I had the starter of calamari Tandoor style, succulent and tender, really delicious. We had 3 starters and two mains between us with rice, 2 side orders of vegtable dishes and 2 naam breads, it was plenty but we ate every scrap of it! All of it was scrumptious. The service was excellent. I had one dissapointment but actually it is probably silly to order an Irish Coffee at a place like this, but it was on the menu so I had it and had to send it back. There was no problem but the 2nd version was not much better. Otherwise it was all perfect, highly recommend it.

Went for a meal in Monty's on New Year's Eve with some friends. As ever the food was delicious and the quantities more than sufficient. Wine list is very good and reasonably priced for a Dublin restaurant. There was a good buzz and everyone else in the restaurant seemed to be enjoying themselves as well. The service was very friendly on what was a busy evening but this is in keeping with previous visits, these are just really nice people - 2 examples, we asked if we could take a table downstairs rather than by the window and were happily accomodated, also when we had paid the bill and were about to go the waiter came over to ask us if we'd like to stay a little longer for some complimentary drinks which turned a great evening into an excellent one.

Food is good, staff not very attentive, had to ask for the drink a few times, which they had fogotten. Very nice settings. Extensive wine list. I will go back in the very near future for the quality of the food. I found the side orders to be expensive, €3.75 fo rice!

I got to organise my work outing and I choose Monty's for dinner. The rest of the team hadn't been before but they all said that they would definitely go back. There were 7 of us so we got to taste lots of different dishes. The prawns and the award winning monkfish were top favourites. Will be going again in the New Year!

Monty's is delicious, the dahl is to die for, the yogi bhat is great and the carrot pudding is so unusual and so very very tasty!! Hoping to go over Christmas, I have my fingers and toes crossed for a table.

Very nice food, if a little on the pricey side. I have sensitive digestion and found the meal quite heavy, despite choosing carefully. Atmosphere was alright - definitely not romantic!

Don't be nervous coming here, I was at first as I have never tried Nepalese but it is just like Indian food only way nicer! This place is a gem I don't go often enough!! Try the prawns or the Lamb with spinach. Delicious and excellent value.

Great buzz in Montys last Saturday night. Restaurant was full with pre-Christmas diners but the service was efficient. Food was delicious. I was one of a party of 7 and all dishes were devoured! My Jumbo Prawns were slightly cool on arrival at the table but the waiter quickly and politely returned with a replacement. Nice atmosphere and house wine both reasonably priced and to drink. Will return!

Went with my son and various of his uncles for a pre Thin Lizzy at the Olympia dinner. Not my first time. Food is generally interesting and clearly not generic Indiastani, as so often. Portions could be larger, but staff are very attentive and cheerful. Worth a visit, but not for an occasion.

Had a nice meal here. Went on advice from this site and asked for a table upstairs which was indeed nicer than downstairs. Tables a bit close together though and not the most comfortable seats. Food was lovely. Starter of allo kerau chat pat (potato, peas, chillies, ginger, onion) was really tasty and lighter than the similar things eaten in Indian restaurants. Main of Gorkhali chicken was very nice. I asked them to go easy on the spices and it was a nice alternative to korma. Nothing jumped out on the dessert menu so we went to a cafe instead. Service was very good.

Having heard nothing put good things about this restaurant I was not blown away by the place. The food was tasty my main problem was with the service. On a friday night the starters arrived very quickly. However before we had even finished I could see our waiter waiting with our main courses. As our starter plates were removed our mains were put on front of us. No chance to relax between courses. I think this is an unacceptable service. No customer should be rushed in such a fashion. We left feeling rushed and unimpressed. If this had been for a early bird I would have been a bit more understanding.

I'd heard great things about this place and was keen to give it a try - while it's a nice enough restaurant, it really didn't blow me away. The food wasn't anything extraordinary, which was disappointing since we ordered based on our waiter's recommendation. Wouldn't be in a hurry to go back. Nothing terribly wrong with it, just very average! And tiny portions!

I'm no specialist, but I really like the food here. However, it is true that the furniture looks a bit old and in terms of ambiance is not my favorite spot. Just a tip: their lassy is a clear MUST. Try also the various types of rice they have as side dish, they are quite interesting.

Went a few weeks ago for a night out with some friends from work. The food came highly recommended! It was very poor I had Lamb Gorgalhi and it was really bland and flavourless not to mention the tiny portion of meat. The other people with me did not enjoy their mains either. The place itself could do with a bit of Modernisation.

Saturday night, table for four, 7:00 - 8:30pm. Food was average. Chicken wings starter was bland. Main prawn dish was just ok. Vegetarian options are limited. Much prefer the food from Bombay Pantry (take away) in Rathmines. Charging €3 for rice is excessive. Bill came to €200 for 4 people with 2 bottles of wine. Won't go back.

I went to Monty's last night, as it is a firm favourite when I meet up with one of my friends. We arrived at 6pm as we were heading to the theatre. The restaurant was very quiet at this time, perhaps due to the 'R' word?? Our first disappointment was that Monty's pre-theatre menu has disappeared; this was always great value and a crowd puller for the slow evening start. We decided to only order main courses, with Naan and Rice, our second disappointment was that the Tandoori oven had only just been turned on so there was no Naan bread available and wouldn't be for over an hour, not great for a restaurant that offers Naan as one of its staples. The food was delicious when it arrived. The waiting staff were attentive and polite during our meal, however after our plates were cleared we were not offered tea/coffee or desserts. Compared to previous visits Monty's has slipped.

Al what can I say about this lovely little place, well for a start my better half only lets us go there for special outings as she loves it so much, other than that I'd be there every weekend and would surely make myself sick of it. My first time in Montys was quite the experience really, as I am very fond on my hot food, i decided that (before I had even tasted it) the Ledo Bedo was not quite hot enough for me, the waiter found this a very funny request to have it hotter. When it arrived 'oh my god it was hot' but wonderful!! Ever since then the owner Sheeva (who has his own beer on sale) see's it as a personal challenge to see just how much chili my body can withstand. Deadly restaurant with great food and very good staff, can get a little hot with all that chili though. I find it a little bright and the decor has been like that since year dot. Oh and take the second sitting, you will be asked for the table back. (fair enough) 10/10 though.

I've eaten here once this year and look forward to returning. I found the atmosphere to be homely and unpretentious. Our waiter was very pleasant and helpful and came over and chatted with my friend or myself when one of use left the table. The food was very interesting and the meats were excellently cooked. Portions on the main course were not very large so having rice and naan bread on the side was a good idea. Unfortunately they were out of their own brand of Tibetan beer but luckily for me they stock one of my favourite beers as an alternative, Warsteiner. The only fault with the menu is that I could not have it all!

Went last night after work, arrived about 6.15. The restaurant was not full, only a few people there and was asked if I had a booking, I should have left then. Had to wait ages for a waiter to take my order and when he did, seemed uneasy. Ordered a veg. curry and had to pay extra for rice. Complimentry popodums and dips were given to everyone else except my table. I've never come across a veg. curry with such little amount of veg in it, there was about an eighth of a florett of cauliflower in it, a couple of peas and some Nepalese cheese and about one mushroom cut into pieces.

I was there yesterday. I had allo tama and I find them very tasty and I really really like that. I feel like having food like in a local restaurant in Kathmandu. Service was excellent and foods were lovely. Any one who would like to have Nepalese food this is the best place to be.

Nine of us went here for my birthday, and I have to say that the food, wine, service and atmosphere were all excellent. The staff couldn't have been nicer or more helpful, we all had different dishes and everyone enjoyed them. The wine list was very reasonably priced and we had a very pleasany Rioja for €20. Will definately be back.

We ate here last night. It was my first visit there, but it's definitely not the last. This is now my favorite Nepalese/Indian restaurant. The food is so flavoursome and is the perfect portion size. Ate enough, but don't feel too full at the end of the meal. Saw lots of other peoples dishes come out and now have a long list of other things to try the next times I go back. I had the monkfish which was really nice. The tandoori prawns looked great as well. Lovely wine as well. They do a monthly special so last night it was a nice riesling.

We'd heard good things about Monty's, so we were looking forward to an excellent meal and that's exactly what we got - the food was really delicious. However, we were pretty disappointed with the service. The staff were friendly and pleasant, but clearly rushed off their feet. We had to wait ages for our food to arrive and when it did, although beautifully prepared and very tasty, some of it had started to go cold. We were seated downstairs and the staff mostly remained upstairs, so it was really difficult to catch their attention. Eventually, we got tired of waiting for a dessert menu and the chance to order more drinks and decided to give up! It's a shame, because the food really is superb, but the service was definitely a bit of let down.

We recently ate here, its hard to get a booking so contact them well in advance. One of the nicest meals I have ever had, I had the crab claws for starters which were nicely spiced, full of flavor and really fresh. I had the traditional Nepalese curry which was absolutely delicious and the best curry I have had in a long time!! Its not overly expensive and very similar to Indian food I would highly recommend it.

Ate here with 2 girl pals a few weeks ago and it was excellent. I had visited previously and was afraid my memory had exaggerated how good the food was, but it was exactly as I expected. We went for the 6 course tasting menu and it was very good, although at 50 quid a head, it would want to be. We spent 4 hours in the restaurant and had a great girly night. Will definitely return.

Two of us there last Saturday evening at seven, it was nearly full on the ground floor, a good sign. Food was excellent, I had LAMB CHOILA to start this spicy and full of flavours. For mains I had Gorkhali - Chicken which was very nice and the other main was KHASI KO KARANG, which is lamb chops, and very good also. Garlic nan was the best. Didn't bother with dessert, two brandies instead. Including wine €32 bill came to €99. I recommend Monty's .

I ate here recently with my boyfriend, having heard very good things about the place from a few people. I have to say, I was extremely disappointed. Firstly, it's very cramped and the decor is a little bit grubby, for want of a better word. We had made a reservation, but it probably wasn't necessary as the place wasn't full. After we were seated, we had to wait thirty minutes for a waiter to take our drink order. This wasn't due to the fact that they were run off their feet. In fact, one waiter stood right behind us polishing forks!! When we were eventually served our food, after being there for a good hour, they rushed us through our meal. The main was brought before we were even finished the starter. We had to ask three times for the wine list. Eventually my boyfriend had to go to the bar/reception himself and get it. Again, I want to point out that the restaurant was far from full. The food was fairly average and not too expensive. But definitely not worth putting up with the terrible service. We will not be going back here ever!

My partner and I ate here last weekend and had a wonderful meal. We are both from Australia and so have found it almost impossible to find a good curry, that is until we found Monty's. The service was great, and the price was really acceptable. We will definitely be going back.

Monty's is a gem, I've taken about half a dozen people here and all of them have been seriously impressed. It's always full but never packed, even on a Saturday night you don't need a reservation. Their waiters are attentive but not pushy and really know about the food. The monk fish is divine and their naan breads are the best I've ever tasted. It's not cheap but given it's in Temple Bar and the quality you get here, it's pretty good value. A recent meal with 3 mains, 5 sides (we couldn't decide!!), naan bread, coffees and 2 bottles of wine came to €140.

Ate here on a Monday night and it was full... always a good sign! Service was attentive and the food was really tasty to the point that you are guaranteed to eat far too much! The restaurant itself is a little cramped and given that they seem to cater for quite a number of groups it probably wouldn't be the best choice for a romantic date.

A group of 9 of us ate here last night, and everyone was very happy with their dishes. The masu ko bari(spicy minced lamb)was a delicious starter, and my chicken gorkhali with coriander, chillies and ginger fell on just the right side of spicy! The naan bread is top-notch and while the restaurant was a bit cramped, the service was spot-on.

I'm actually reviewing Monty's new restaurant in Rathgar, where the Iveagh used to be. Visited on Tuesday 29th April with 4 friends - was very impressed by the very friendly service, food, and service. The restaurant is lovely - upstairs has both traditional style seating as well as European - great. The food was absolutely delicious - all 5 of us really loved what we ordered. The wine list is great with a good range by the glass too.

Went to Monty's on Saturday night with a group of friends, over all the food was good as was the service, however I found it very cramped, tables are extremely close together and it became quiet noisy when upstairs was full. Another down fall were the toilets, not very clean and on one occasion had to wait 15 minutes to get one.

We went on a Sunday evening and didn't need to reserve a table. The food was a tad overpriced nonetheless was very tasty and of a high quality. My biggest problem with Monty's was the small selection of vegetarian options although the dishes we chose were very nice. I would recommend trying the Naan breads which are the best I have ever tasted in Ireland. The specially brewed restaurant beer was also a high point of the meal. The tables were a little close together however so in a busy period this may be slightly annoying.

I highly recommand this place. I did go to this restaurant already before, a year ago, & I was delighted to see that the food, service & overal atmosphere were still as perfect as it was previoulsy. The food is really yummy & the service is really good, waiters are friendly & helpful. The only down side is the price as it is a little expensive but it worth every cent + the portions are quite big.

Ate here last Thusday. Two of us shared a starter platter, the Nepalese meat masala with the dhall and peshwari naan. Absolutely delicious and more than enough for two. The service is attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend it and will return as soon as I can!

Montys is fantastic-we go here for special family occasions and have never been disappointed. The staff are really friendly and helpful and the food is always absolutely delicous. The fresh ingredients really make the difference to dishes and the atmosphere is warm and friendly. Definitely recommend it to everyone.

Always a pleasure. I have eaten at Monty's several times a year since being introduced to it by my girlfriend (now wife!) in 2002. It never fails to please the old taste buds! Seems to keep the same (courteous) staff! And is incredibly handy for the IFI across the road! All in all a real treasure in the heart of town!!

Have eaten at Monty's three times now and the experience is getting better with each visit! Food always top notch (if a little pricey, especially for the veggie dishes)- really fresh and clean flavours. Service couldn't be more charming or helpful, all staff extremely knowledgeble and happy to advise. Good value wine list too. Highly recommended.

Monty's is prob my favourite restaurant in Dublin! The food is amazing, herbs and spices so fresh and each dish tastes really unique. The raw mince and whiskey shot is fantastic and the staff are always friendly, humorous and attentive-this place rocks!

I ate here with friends on a busy Friday night. Having been once before I was looking forward to another great meal and I wasn't disappointed. The staff were friendly and informative throughout and helped with our food selection. We had the Momos to start (don't forget to order in advance) and they were very tasty - spicy without being too hot and accompanied by a creamy chutney. A word of warning - 1 portion is more than enough for 2 people! Mains were well received by all (fish lovers check out the monkfish) and washed down with a nice bottle of red wine. By 7.30pm the place was packed and whilst the tables are maybe a little close together, don't let this put you off as the atmosphere is good. Thumbs up all round.

We ventured in here on a cold January evening in hope that some of the dishes would warm us from inside out. We weren't disappointed. I loved the poppadoms with the trio of dips to start. Something for everyone's palate. My partner has normally stayed well clear of spicy dishes but was willing to try the combo platter as a starter which was a mix of mild to spicy. The waiter was excellent as he went through what each dish was and level of hotness. I ordered a mango lassi and it was the perfect accompaniment to the dishes. My partner opted for a local beer and was impressed. Our mains were great too and although we didn't stay for dessert the choice seemed interesting. My only regret if you wanted momos you had to order them 24 hours in advance, I loved momos in Nepal and was disappointed I hadn't known this.

I ate here last week and I was disappointed. The quality of the food is just ok - not great and it was expensive for what we got. I had wanted to try Monty's for a long time but I won't be going back.

I have been a few times now and will definitely continue to return. The service is friendly and always willing to explain what a dish is. For the more adventurous diner try the raw lamb starter it tastes great.

I have been to this restaurant a number of times, and have to say it's one of my favourites. Very simple decor so don't expect anything too fancy, but the atmosphere is very relaxed and welcoming. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive. I have tried a few dishes on the menu and was always very happy with my choices. They do an earlybird midweek which is fantastic value. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.

Sorry to spoil what seems like a great run of reviews but myself & a friend who have both been to India and love this style of cooking had very disappointing meal here last week. Firstly the lighting is of the stark halogen variety downstairs where we were seated so we both ended up with headaches. Secondly the smell of burning incense was so overpowering that we both ended up with headaches. The tables were so close together that we couldn't enjoy our conversation as the people beside us were constantly joining in!! Both being vegetarian we ordered 3 veggie dishes - to our disappointment, the dahl was cold and tasteless & the other 2 dishes were made with frozen veg mix. Only redeeming factors were the genuinely friendly service & speciality in-house beer! Needless to say we won't be rushing back!

I ate here back in March. I was there for a friend’s birthday and considering there was a group of over twenty of us I have to say the service was great. Everything was brought out together as well which is always good. The food was very good and not too expensive either.

Had a friends birthday here on Friday night about 2 weeks now. But it was a great night, lovely food and wine for 9 of us. I would recommend Montys when you have a big party, as we were able to stay for along as we liked and were looked after.

I have been here about 4/5 times with my hubby and also brought a gang from work, and I love it. Each time I was there we had the mixed platter for starter and everything on it was yum and our waiter explained it all for us, and then the ledo bedo - absolutely delicious! I would definitely recommend it.

Nice cosy little resturant. Pleasant service and nice freshly prepared food. The food is nicely balanced and has a nice freshness to it and good portions. The food choice is a little limited and only the choice of 1 beer which is a house beer is not acceptable considering it's not a quality beer, more like an earner. Overall I would recommend and I will return!

The food is inadequate and overpriced for the standard. I'm amazed that this establishment is so critically acclaimed and has won so many awards; perhaps it was the novelty of being the only Nepalese restaurant in Ireland for so long. The waiting staff are very affable though.

I don't find dinner in Monty's a memorable experience. You feel like you are squashed in somebody's tiny living room without any comfort. The food is only mediocre and does not give any value for money. I will not be back.

Monty's provides a good quality meal-the room can be very crowded as the tables are close together. I went with a party of 10 and all came away satisfied. Some condiments arrived-a delicious spicy sauce, an onion mixture and a cooling mint yoghurt sauce, we dipped eagerly into these with poppadums. For my starter I chose the chicken chatta mari-delicious chunks of chicken medium spiced. This was the highlight for me. For my mains I had lamb ledo bedo-a curry for which I opted for the hot version. Again this was very tasty (and by the way the portions are generous, so sharing main courses between diners is a great way to taste different dishes). With several bottles of wine and beer, and coffees the bill came to a very reasonable 45 Euro a head.

I think one of the best value for money places in Dublin. Really tasty food and good quality and value. I’ve been twice now and had the crab claws to start. So good it's making my mouth water right now...only problem is that you're left with yellow fingers for the night not matter how much you scrub them! Defo be back.

My first time trying Nepalese food and was very impressed. Staff were very helpful and explained different courses as we went along. I would recommend getting seating upstairs if you're on a romantic night out - much nicer ambiance. Larger groups will need to be seated downstairs due to space constraints but it's not so nice.

Enjoyed our meal in Monty’s. I was first drawn to this restaurant by its name. What a cool name. The tables are a little close together and you can hear all that is going on beside you which I did not like to much, having said that once the restaurant fills up and you have a few glasses of vino you tend to forget all about it. The staff are very knowledgeable of the menu and when I told them it was our first time to eat in the restaurant they could not of been more helpful. House wine very good I refuse to pay for water in a restaurant as I feel we have very good tap water in Ireland so please give me the choice of tap water. The food in Monty’s is top class and very tasty. When we where leaving I got talking to the manager who offered us a drink on the house, which was very nice and that little bit of extra customer service which I look for in a good restaurant. Well done Monty’s we will be back.

This place is so yummy! I've been here twice in the last 2 months, and both times the food was excellent. I'd really recommend the jumbo prawns as a main, they are delicious. I had craw claws to start on one visit, and a really tasty lamb skewer another time. The wine list is very reasonable, we had a lovely red Chilean, it was so good we chose to stay on and drink another bottle after the meal... The staff are very friendly and there is a great buzz about the place, once you ask for an upstairs table. I'm sure I will be back again soon.

This is one of our favourite restaurants in all of Dublin. Food is excellent (my favourite is the second from the top, on the first main courses page) and service is also very good, though not as consistently good as the food. We have always sat downstairs, because we are normally a larger group, but I think upstairs would have a nicer atmosphere. Highly highly recommended.

Enjoyed the food but thought it was nothing spectacular. Reasonably priced. Not very impressed with the service. The waiters were reluctant to come take our order. Some of my group were ravenous so they were not impressed. I had to ask 3 times for my glass of wine. I'd had a bad day so it was higher on my list of priorities than food!

Although I eat a lot of Asian food, this was my first visit to a Nepalese restaurant and I’m sure, after this experience, it will not be my last. The food was both unique and excellent, although the layout of the menu does make it slightly more difficult than it need be to make a selection. Service was very good and the interior is very nicely decorated and the meal was reasonably good value for money.

I hadn't been to Monty's in a few years but went with a friend last week on the off chance of getting a table without a reservation. We were in luck - not only by getting us a table but one upstairs, which made all the difference! Having dined downstairs once, I made the decision that time not to go back unless I could be guaranteed a table upstairs, so was very happy that our impromptu visit on a busy Thursday night involved getting a nice table in the corner at the front of the restaurant. We shared a starter of Tareko Jhinga Macha, a kind of barbecued tiger prawns served with a very simple salad, which was perfect. The prawns were large and tasted really fresh. For mains we shared a King Prawn Gorkhali (a yoghurt based creamy sauce with a real kick) and the divine Tandoori Butter Chicken, a rich, unctuous sauce with very generous portions of chicken. One garlic naan bread and a portion of pilau rice were plenty to fill us up, along with a couple of the restaurant's own brand 'Shiva' lagers, the ideal accompaniment. I think the food in Monty's is really excellent and a good head and shoulders above other similar restaurants (bearing in mind it's the one and only Nepalese restaurant in Dublin, I think?). This is down to the quality of ingredients, which you can tell have been freshly cooked and prepared. The staff are always very friendly and helpful, and you get the feeling that they enjoy explaining the menu if you have any questions, or taking the time to advise you on dishes if you're not too sure of what you'd fancy. If I had any complaints (which I don't really), it would be the decor, which I feel, could be improved. Having said that, it's a small price to pay when you can be guaranteed of excellent food at reasonable prices.

I definitely enjoyed eating here recently on a Thursday evening. About 9.30pm, and without reservations we were placed downstairs (do try and ensure you get an upstairs (ground floor) table, the ambience is much nicer). We were beside what seemed to be a relatively lively work-do crowd who were finishing off. We had two main courses, a bottle of wine and two Irish coffees. It was fairly reasonable in terms of price. Its the first time that I have had Indian/Nepalese food in Dublin which tasted somewhat like the food I have tasted in India, so from that perspective I think its reasonably authentic. Service was also good. I will definitely return to try some more items from the extensive menu.

My Friend was always talking about this place as the best place to eat in Dublin.... With excellent food. I went there last week food is OK. Nothing amazing and the colours of some dishes are a bit scary. The service was not great either and they would charge 12.5% gratuity for a party of 6 or more.... Not my favourite.

Went there last night with three friends, service was awful, rushed and we were pretty much ignored while they checked up on other (much older looking) customers 10 times. Food is good, but not value for money. Expensive with small portions. The worst thing was that we had to pay exorbitant amounts for sides like naan bread and pilau rice, which should have come with the main dishes, you'd hardly eat a curry or a kebab dish without naan or rice. Better off going to an Indian restaurant, as the food is quite similar. Good for a once off treat but that's all. Although we just got the main course, the price we paid amounted to a regular three course meal!

Booked table for a team night out during the week on this site and got a quick confirmation, which was good. The place it self was very nice, the decor and atmosphere were good and our waiter was very sweet. The food was really good, especially the squid and the prawns, which were real, melt in the mouth. We all really enjoyed ourselves and was reasonable value for money.

Was here last week to celebrate my birthday. Quite surprised with all the previous reviews. I just think the food is ok -average. The price is reasonable enough. Not sure I will recommend it to others though I don’t have any bad experience with the service. One more thing the table are extremely close to each other, I have to move my chair few times to make space for the waiter to go through. Not suitable for romantic dinner as the restaurant is quite bright.

Decent but overpriced curry. Lunch time special for €20 serves up well spiced, well created dishes but expensive for what they are. My lamb starter was quite mild, companion's squid was tasty, and prawn main courses were rich and well balanced with flavour. The room is sparse but not uncomfortable and the service is polite. Significantly better than many other curry houses in the area but price really is an issue for me.

I ate here recently with a large group and was very impressed with the service and quality of the food. The staff were very attentive from the moment we arrived and were accommodating to the fussy eaters of the group. Between us we sampled a large selection of the menu and all were pleased with our meals. I would recommend to a friend!

Went there last week, despite booking in advance got the worst table possible /at the door/ so sitting there would mean playing a concierge for new arrivals. Eventually got a table downstairs but the service was really bad as if they wanted to punish us for our protest.

Monty’s is a fab restaurant! The food is amazing, clearly authentic & portions look small but they are in fact perfect and sooo delicious! The food & wine menus are good sizes with a fair amount to choose from and you can spend a little or lot, with the wines ranging from authentic Napali wine to Lynch Bages. They also serve their own bottled beer, which is really easy to drink! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and service was at a perfect pace. This restaurant is fantastic value with delicious food, every one I know who has been has loved it, even walking past one night one of the guests who was smoking outside commented on how amazing it was! You can't go wrong.

Was here last Thurs (22 Feb.). First time. Found the food excellent. The service friendly if a little distracted. The lighting perhaps a bit bright but other than that the meal was faultless not exactly sure of the names of the dishes but the deep fired veggie things to start and the spiced potatoes we exceptional. So too were both veggie curries (although the paneer didn’t blow me away!). Topped of with half a bottle of reasonably priced Gewürztraminer (spelling ain't so good!). Well worth the visit - and already look forward to the next time!

Ooh, now this is a true gem of Dublin. Not hidden away, but easily missed in Temple Bar, this is a genuinely good restaurant with excellent food and great service. If you need a great meal out in a lively (sometimes crowded) atmosphere, this is a brilliant spot (just make sure you don't sit downstairs).

You have to have the baby squid for a starter if you go to Montys. We liked it so much we ordered plates and plates of it and were stuffed by the time we got our mains. Nonetheless, we soldiered on, and didn't regret anything. The curries we had were very good. Service was friendly and helpful. Recommend it for sure!

Real pleasant surprise. Nipped in here without booking. Service was excellent and the food very tasty and well presented. It's a Nepalese restaurant, there is a close relationship with Indian food. Can't remember the names of the dishes but none disappointed.

To tell the truth I was a bit disappointed probably due to a number of rave reviews I have heard. However that is not to say that Monty’s was not good, just that I had my standards set too high on the night. The food was pretty good (I think I was a bit unadventurous, should have gone for the tasting menu), the waiters very friendly, the atmosphere comfortable and all in all the meal was very good value. Just remember not to sit beside the door with the letterbox if you get a choice of where to sit!

This is a little gem of a place. The staff are all from Nepal and they are top class. The food is excellent and it’s worth trying a selection of dishes to tempt the palate. Great for a special occasion and a group of people. Booking recommended!!

If you are tired of the ordinary and want to have a unique dining experience that will tantalize your taste buds, you should book a table at Monty's right away. The food is different from anything I've ever tasted before (not having spent any time in Nepal) and delicious. While there is something for everyone on the menu, I would urge you to put aside your prejudices and sample some of their exotic dishes. One of them, the kachela, is described as raw lamb with spices and served with whiskey (served perhaps for courage, but also because it goes quite nicely with it). This might be off-putting to some, but throw caution to the wind, and you will be well rewarded.

The food was very tasty and well presented. One chicken dish was bright green, which was a little off putting. The tables were a little close together..

You really do get something different from Monty's. Extraordinary flavours and quality food. On my last visit the waiter knew what I had eaten on the previous visit, which I found wonderful! The service is excellent. Such a nice place to sit down and enjoy a meal.

Love it! Love it! Love it!! The waiters are great, not slimy at all... the service is excellent and the food is to die for. Liked the beer too, and they serve a good Lebanese wine.

Brilliant restaurant. No wonder it's won so many awards. The food is cheap and absolutely gorgeous. Nepalese is definitely a new favourite of mine.

Although I'd never been to a Nepalese restaurant before and was nervous that I didn't think I'd know what to order, I have to say it's one of the best restaurants I've been to in ages. We started with the mixed platter for 2 which was delicious. I had the traditional Nepalese curry and it was fantastic. All in all, between food and service, I'll definitely be back!!!
