I visited this restaurant for the first time and really liked it a lot. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the atmosphere was relaxed but still formal enough to make it a nice place for a special occasion. The food was delicious - the portions were definitely big enough for me but I think my husband might have liked a little more. Also the bread was amazing! This restaurant is a little pricey but overall I think it is worth it.

The good thing about this restaurant is that it's close to Stephen's Green so after you've eaten here you can pop into one of the fast food places on Grafton Street and fill the gap that's left from the tiny portions of food they serve. It's a shame really because the food was nice. There just wasn't enough of it. My salmon blanquette was supposed to be accompanied by clams and mussels. And it was - by just two of each. The slice of salmon was so small it was dwarfed by the broccoli sticks which accompanied it. The atmosphere was fine but the tables are so close together that you feel like you're sharing a booth with the people sitting next to you. One final note. The restaurant says it's coeliac friendly. However when I asked for gluten free bread or crackers to go with the cheeseplatter, they had neither available so I ended up just eating cheese on its own. For the prices they are charging, I would have expected more - more food, more space, more options on the menu.

I had visited La Mere Zou many years ago and was keen to try it again. It was as fantastic as I remembered. The restaurant is lovely even if a little compact. ( I did feel cramped on our little table). The service is very good. The waiters are attentive and charming. As for the food it is absolutely devine. Being French it is sometime hard to feel a bit of home away from home but I have to say La mere Zou does just that. A wonderful experience !

Visited La mere Zou with a girl friend in January; had a two course lunch which was very tasty; I had a veggie gratin dish cooked and served in the pan, very tasty. This is a lovely place on stephens green with a little out door terrace that you could dine on in the sunshine and its a perfect escape round the corner from the crowds on Grafton street.

Went for dinner in La Mere Zou on Saturday with my husband. Our third time there in the past two years, and it is his favourite restaurant. As always, the highlight was the food. Absolutely exquisite. The menu was unusual, but consistently delicious. We went for the 3 course meal for 35 euro, and got two bottles of delicious wine, the second of which was recommended by our very helpful waitress. Then, realising that we had overshot by ordering a second bottle, she suggested we re-cork it and take it home, which was a great idea. The crispy seabream was a highlight for me, as was our other main course (the ray wing). It's not cheap, which means we can never go regularly and it is always a 'treat', but that's not to say it's not good value. A must-visit for people who prioritise the quality of the food over all else.

Attended a 40th Birthday here recently and have to say i have walked past it a thousand times and wondered what it was like inside. There was a big group of us and its not a big place so we where split over two tables. They have a set menu which most of us ordered off with lots of specials written up on the blackboards on the walls. The food is great, Its not the cheapest your ever going to get but it is good value if you consider what you are getting. I had Tuna starter with and i had duck for my mains. The duck was moist and tender and highly recomended. The deserts where also good with a good choice to suit most tastes. They coped well with the big crowd and the staff are all friendly and very attentive so its one i would recomend if you are able to get into it as i imagine its hard enough to get a table given its size. One to put on your list.

Ended up here for lunch as where we intended to go wasn't open - and probably we were lucky as La Mere Zou turned out to be fantastic. £ of us went for the lunch and to be honest the only mistake we made was in going for the 2 course rather than 3 courses - but there will be a next time and we won't make the same mistake. The chowder was fantastic and the main of salmon and risotto was delicious and this from someone who wouldn't normally go for risotto. All in all I would really recommend this restaurant.

Went here for a birthday party- large party of 12 people. They accomodated us with ease, courses came together and any specific requests were met catered for with no hassle or fuss. Food was top-notch and the early bird menu was terrific value for what we got. Will return soon to bring my girlfriend for aniiversary.

Wow.. Can't think why I have never eaten here before.Top quality food cooked to perfection. Wonderful wine. Ate here with group of friends a couple of weeks back. It's one of their favorites when they're are in Dublin. I chose from the table d'hôte Menu. Farmhouse Terrine followed by Chicken and a French cheese board to finish. Excellent value at €35.00 my fellow dinners all ordered from the A la Carte Menu so I was allowed to try a range of my fellow dinners meals. (lucky me...) Book ahead as it's often booked out surprise surprise

Four of us met for a chatty lunch. We had a wonderful time. There is such a lovely atmosphere, efficient and friendly service and excellent food. We had three warm chicken liver salads and one deep fried cheese. Everything was beautifully presented and melt-in-the mouth. We then had three fried fillets of bass [again melt-in-the-mout and so-o-o tasty], and a pan fried striploin of veal, which was hearty and delicious. Various desserts finished off the meal and were of the same high standard and presentation. The wine was good too and reasonably priced. La Mere Zou really offers a lovely experience and good value. Will be back again soon!

The husband has been working hard lately and travelling alot so suggested that we went out for a meal last night. We didn't have to pay a babysitter so we decided to splash out a bit. We hadn't been La Mere Zou for several years and have always enjoyed it. Last night was no exception. He was able to phone and book a table for 8pm at quite short notice. When we arrived we had our pick of tables, but the place was almost full by the time we were leaving. My starter was the duo of foie gras served on a board. In one corner were two slices of tender liver and diagonally opposite was the other part of the duo. It was meltingly wonderful. The husband had crab for his starter and it was also very good. We both had moules mariniere and frites for our main course. The jus was tasty. The husband thought he could taste fennel in it, but the waitress reported back from the chef that there was no fennel. The moules were good but not as good as the starters. Neither of us could manage a pudding even though the selection was very tempting. Two aperitifs, starters, main courses and digestifs and a bottle of Gigondas came to €130. The service was very dignified and pleasant throughout.

Ate here on Saturday evening with the other half. From all the excellent reviews here, we were really looking forward to it. Ordered Scallops and Goats Cheese to start. Scallops were delicious, Goats Cheese was OK, but both were luke warm. For mains I had the Chicken while he went for the Halibut. Tempertaure was fine but both really lacked in seasoning and flavour. I wouldn't say that the staff were rude, but they definitely seemed put out whenever we asked for something and I think the only smile we saw was when we paid the bill. Maybe this was supposed to add to the whole French vibe! Overall, we weren't impressed with La Mere Zou, and felt we could cook a better meal at home. For this reason, we will not be returning - there are much better restaurants in Dublin city in the same price range.

Five of us had lunch here on Saturday. There is a good choice of dishes on the lunch menu and also a good selection of daily specials on the blackboard (most of which do include a small surcharge). We all decided to have the three course lunch menu for €22. All starters and mains were delicious and my rib eye steak was superb and cooked to perfection 'medium rare', as requested, and so tender with a little bit of fat in the meat which just melted in my mouth, fantastic. Desserts went down well but I was disappointed with my choice of 'Butterscotch parfait, roasted banana and chocolate sauce', with just a dribble of chocolate sauce I found it too dry. The food and service were excellent and we will definitely be back.

I had lunch with my family on a wintery friday afternoon and was keen that La Mere Zou lived up to my previous enjoyable dining experiences here. The restaurant is comfortable and cosy which was manned by two excellent and charming waitresses (who have been here quite some time - always a good sign!). Water came automatically and our wet and cold hats and gloves were placed on the radiator. Our table had the fantastically flavoursome smoked haddock rissotto, the mushroom soup and the ham beignets. All starters were excellent and generous in their portion size. For mains, the ladies had chicken which was tasty and the men had the panfried bavette steak. I ordered the steak medium expecting the minimal cooking to make this piece of meat tender but I struggled to cut it let alone chew it. Pity about the meat but it didnt spoil my meal. I had a tasty but small cheeseboard and a very fine espresso to finish. In summary La Mere Zou is cosy, serves greatfood, is good value and has charming waitresses. It continues to be one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin.

Myself and my husband had the early bird menu in la Mere Zou a few weeks ago. I was a bit skeptical as other reviews online had said the early bird portions were small, the atmosphere was rushed and that everything cost extra. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. This is a classic restaurant, with creative and tasty food, fantastic service and a warm but lively atmosphere. The quality of La Mere Zou is evident in every aspect - the food, the presentation, the service and the atmosphere. The early bird menu is priced at E28.50 per person, however our bill came to E108, but that’s because we splashed out for all the extras. My husband has Oysters to start and I had the French onion soup. The oysters were well presented and served with a delicious salsa type vinegar. The soup was very tasty. For mains my husband has a steak, perfectly cooked and I had bacon, which was absolutely gorgeous. For desert we shared the classic crème brulee, and we also got the cheese board to try. These courses were accompanied by 6 large glasses of good wine and followed by coffee! I would highly recommend La Mere Zou, for any occasion… It can be romantic or lively, and is definitely special. The early bird was amazing, but next time I will definitely be trying the a la carte!

We went there on Monday, the first day of Dine in Dublin. It was lovely. The atmosphere and staff were great. The food was very good. The oyster starter was good, not fantastic though. The main of duck was very filling and comforting. The others went for goats cheese starter, which they all loved and fish and pork for main, which everyone was happy with as well. It's not the best restaurant in Dublin, but it's very good and can definitely be recommended.

I visited La Mere Zou on a Thursday night and went for the early bird menu (3 Courses + Tea/coffe for €28,5). I had the toasted fig bread, wild mushrooms stewed in Marsala and paneed quail egg, followed by Roasted beetroot and goat''s cheese Tart, pea puree, creme fraiche risotto and walnuts. The starter was amazing, the main dish was lovely but it would be great if they had a second option for vegetarians. My boyfriend went for the French onions soup and the lemon sole menuiere. As for desserts, we went for the board of cheese and creme brulee. Food and wine were lovely - We also had bread and olives to pick up before our dinner which was lovely. The decor and music were nice. I just think that it would be nicer if we could get bread with the board of cheese instead of the usual crackers.

As a previous reviewer mentioned – WOW WOW WOW... it really was. We booked a table for 6pm and were the first to arrive so we had a choice of seats. The room is lovely and cozy. I opted for the Early Bird menu - 3 courses for €30 while my sister had the A La Carte and Specials. I had the mushrooms, fig bread and breaded quails eggs for starter and my sister had the pigeon with a lovely sabayon. Both were excellent. I had the lemon sole for main course which was cooked perfectly and my sister went for the special of partridge with vanilla parsnip - which was divine. We had a bottle of Sancerre Rouge €44 which went down lovely with both our mains. Crème Brule for dessert and 2 coffees. the bill came to 112 which I thought was excellent value. The servers were lovely and excellent are their jobs, even stopping to offer advice on wine choice when they were busy. If I had one complaint and it would be that we were not told that the partridge was wild and we found a pellet in the meat, but after I thought why shouldn't we have realized ourselves.. the quality of the food was outstanding and no restaurant that serves that outstanding food would have served farmed partridge. Will definately return soon. Best food I have had in Dublin.

We booked a table for 2 for early bird menu on a Saturday. We arrived at 6pm and more people started arriving after us. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and has a warm atmosphere. We were served by 3 different waitress and they were all friendly. Choices on early bird menu were not vast but adequate. I ordered the mushroom & fig bread for starter, while my husband had onion soup with 1 euro extra. Mine tasted rather special and my husband voted for my starter over his. For main, i had the lemon sole while he had bacon steak. Food nicely presented and portions were adequate though i would say mine was a little on the small side. The waitress kept topping up the water & wine for us. Service was excellent. When my husband mentioned to the waitress that i have had my fair share of wine (currently pregnant), the other waitress that served us later never poured any wine for me throughout the dinner. The first waitress must have told the later waitress, and i was quite impressed they paid attention to this minor detail. The desserts we had were divine, i had the chocolate mousse with almond/ginger biscuit served with ice cream while my husband had the creme brulee. Only minor disadvantage is that the tables were a bit close to each other so we could hear other's conversation. This didn't bother us hughly. We had a very nice experience. The meals with side portion of veg and bottle of red wine came to about 100 euro ++ and we feel it is really good value for money. would be back again.

Have been here twice for lunch in last few months and really love it. Service is EXCELLENT, food DIVINE. We booked online and arrived slightly early and the server knew our booking and our window seat request which was impressive. My girlfriend had the duck rillette salad starter which was melt-in-the-mouth fantastic while I had the mushrooms and fig bread in a divine sauce. For mains we both had fish - salmon for her, Cod for me both of which were fantastic. We finished off with Crème Brulée for her and a cheese board for me which - again - were fabulous. Can't speak highly enough and the service was impeccable. My only gripe was that a reasonably priced menu (which has a high number of items with supplements) is offset with pretty highly priced wine and water. Still will always visit when up in Dublin. Incidentally, always professional they emailed me the day after thanking us for our custom and hoping we had a lovely experience (which we did)

WOW WOW WOW! We recently celebrated a very special occasion recently at La Mer Zou... and it blew us away! The ambience, decor and general friendliness of the staff immediately gave me a great feeling. It's not too often these days you get that! The menu had so many choices, and even had a brilliant set menu with many choices from the a la carte menu. each course we ordered was fantastic. my favourite being my fiancés starter.... wood pigeon which was succulent and moreish! My own sea trout main course was fab too. This restaurant is a real treasure.... we'll certainly return.....soon!

Another excellent dining experience. Only downside was how quiet the restaurant was even though we had our table booked for 8 - when we've been before it has been very busy, with a great buzz to the place but this time there were lots of empty tables. The musicians were a great addition when they started playing. Food as always was superb - could not fault a thing - we went for the á la carte menu (the table d'hote menu looked great value) and were not disappointed. Starters of Charcuterie & the Toasted fig bread, wild mushrooms stewed in Marsala and paneed quail egg. Both were delicious, delicately cooked & well balanced. We both opted for the Lamb Assiette because it's description was simply too tempting to resist - neither of us were left wanting for more or wishing we had chosen somethng else. Dessert of Chocolate mousse, caramel ice cream, almond and ginger macaron was a riot of flavour in the mouth & the cheese board had great variety for any palate. Even the coffee was great!!! Service was attentive, polite, friendly & efficient without being in your face. We won't be leaving it as long before our next gastronomic outing to this great restaurant.

horrible way to treat customers. went 4 early bird. loved the food and atmosphere but the staff practically threw us out at the end. we just paid the bill, after lovely starter, main course and desert each and they said we better leave now as there were other ppl here 4 r table. i had about 2 mouthfuls of wine left and they proceeded 2 come over twice more in the next 3 minutes. very annoyed. we had just spent around 90 quid and we were pretty much escorted off the permises. awful.complained in the restaurant and rang to complain once i arrived home also. no apology offered.shocking!!!

Delicious, delicious, delicious!! Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Went for the all night early bird on a Tuesday. Even though the restaurant was practically empty there was still a lovely atmostphere - I would love to see it when it is busy! I brought along my own piece of gluten free bread, and as I had French onion soup to start, they offered to make the crouton from my own bread - outstanding service!! I had the cod and langoustine risotto for mains, and it was delicious. Neither me or my mom could fit dessert, but I'm sure they would be just as tasty as the previous courses! Was so impressed with everything - service, food, price - this could be my new favourite place to eat!!

The food here was great, I had roast cod for main and duck confit for starters. Both were fantastic - very tasty. The service was good - we weren't left waiting for anything but at the same time the waiters weren't annoying or over the top. This restaurant can be a bit pricey, but the all night early bird menu is fantastic value. Can't wait to go back!

This was my first trip to Le Mere Zou following a recommendation from a work colleague. I have to say that this restaurant far exceeded my expectations. I can't praise it enough nor fully articulate how fantastic it truly is. The decor is elegant, comfortable and romantic. The meal was very enjoyable some lovely flavours through out. The wine list was excellent and interestingly offered some Belgian beers. Service was fantastic and friendly but not overbearing. I would recommend Le Mere Zou to anyone wanting a good relaxed night out.

We were very disappointed with the food and the service. Considering the price you pay, there is no real value. The staff were friendly but not really attentive, they seem to have more fun chatting to each other - at least in french to add to the atmosphere. The atmosphere though is really good and there was a live jazz duo. They werent too loud but added nicely to the experience. I wouldn't go back as it is too expensive for the quality and portions you get.

Great place, been there about 4 years ago with family.. and what i remember of the place was that its really expensive, but totally worth it if you are willing to splash out. I remember having medallions of veal that where cooked to perfections. this time however, i went there with my girlfriend during the dine in Dublin week. The place was very similar to what i remember, but it was rearranged to fit more tables! We both had the Chowder as starter, and it was really nice, not too creamy and packed with an assortment of fish. For mains I had the Salmon and she had the Pork. over all i thought the food was really good, slightly overcooked, but being a set menu, u kinda expect that. will defiantly recommend this place, and look forward to my next visit.

The food here is very sub standard, we were very disappointed and especially for the price you pay here I was sorry we even crossed the threshold. I would not recommend this restaurant, although I will say the waiting staff are very friendly and attentive. However the food really lets the place down.

Went here with the missy on Val's day. I love French food and I would say that I'm quite particular when it comes to that. I've been to France numerous times and have had good experiences with the local restaurants, but I must say La mere zou is at least as good as the ones in France. Atmosphere was great, typically French, though we missed out on the Jazz live performance. Service was excellent. Food was flat out amazing, everything cooked to perfection and the dishes were very innovative too. It was not cheap, but for what you get, I would say it is very worth it. The only thing that we could pick on was the dessert: not so impressive. Overall this could well be my new favorite restaurant and I did not give it a 5 out of 5 simply because I'm not yet sure what perfection is.

Last night was the second time we went, very good value and excellent food as always. The only very disappointing thing was that the duck on main dish was gone ( Sliced Duck Magret, Braised Red Cabbage, Pomme Cocotte Date Puree And Duck Jus ) and we did come to this particular one on valentines for the duck so we were quite disappointed with that. BRING BACK THE DUCK DISH !!!!!!!!

Went here with my boyfriend for an early bird and was very impressed! - excellent french onion soup and creme brulee - sign of a good French restaurant for me!. The waitress was really friendly - and when we asked for a break between mains and deserts it was no problem. Even though it was a Saturday night and the restaurant was really busy we did'nt feel rushed at all - would definately go back!

Went for lunch and what fantastic value for money and great service. I will be back to try their evening menu. Very relaxing place to go for an unhurried lunch in the city centre.

I really like this place. Went for the first time with my mother for my birthday and had a throughly enjoyable experience. Though the tables are a little bijoux (cramped!) the food and service were of a very high quality, particularly the creme brulee which was a triumph! Next time I go I'm going to book the bigger table in the alcove...ideal for a group planning to wile away a few hours in this charming eatery.

Went there for early bird, and we had to grab something else to eat on the way home as the portions were minuscules. Food was delicious but you need your glasses to find it in your plate. It was an early bird but it worked out expensive.

A group of us went here for the early bird dinner and were presented with the christmas menu for the early bird, which was somewhat different from the ordinary one we had seen previously and we felt the choice was not as nice. The starters were good, but the mains disappointed. We all got the cod for the main course with chorizo and chickpeas, but the cod was extremely dry, and the chorizo with chickpeas did not blend well with it at all. The sides were good. Again we felt the desert menu did not give decent options other than the creme brulee. However, the service was excellent and the atmosphere was cosy but lively at the same time. Wouldn't rush back for the food alone.

Went for lunch while there was a special €15 deal for 3 courses. Naturally expected food to be somewhat below usual standard as often is found in establishments during lunch specials and early birds. Not in the slightest! Had the french onion soup, salmon and almond and cherry tart. All divine. Generous portions and lacking in no way by virtue of the reasonable price tag. Very impressive

Went here with a friend for the early bird. She loved her fried brie starter and the chicken main, I had the rabbit main and it was divine. Plenty of rabbit in a delicious sauce. I had a glass of Pic Poul for a change and the service was impeccable. Great value three course menu in a great restaurant!

Went here for the early bird with 4 friends. The early bird has a number of supplements if you want certain dishes so isn't really a proper early bird. The starters were good. I had the crab meat which was nice. The mains were good as well i went for the muscles and received an enormous portion. The steaks and the chicken went down well also. The desserts were gorgeous I had the chocolate fondant which was fabulous! The bill in toal came to €55 each which was very steep for an early bird I felt considering that the mains and starters were only "good". The service wasn't brilliant. Food came out quickly but the staff were a bit cold and unfriendly. I wouldn't rush back.

We went here for the early bid menu without pre-booking. The waitress was extremely helpful in trying to fit us in. The food was very tasty but the portions were far from generous which takes a little from the value of the early bird offer. I would definetly recommend ordering some sides to bulk up the main. Would definitely go back

we took the early bird menu for 20e in la mere zou, now it says early bird but in my book if nearly every item on that menu has a supp. it doesnt represent the price advertised. The resteraunt itself was full mainly with european guests which was a good sign, the waitress was very helpfull, the food although good was small in portion,I had the boullebaise which was very tasty and the cheese for desert,my girlfiend had the the same with the creme brulee for desert. the bill for two 3 course early birds,a bottle of wine, service and 1 mineral was 110e.

walking to find a restaurant on Thursday night, we ended up here. Despite being down in the basement, the decor is bright and warm with some old French stylish ads on the wall in the attempt probably to resemble a french bistro. Now the food: my crab gazpacho was ok, nothing special, The turnip was a better a choice but the bed of rice where the fish laid on, was probably to full of cream and in contrast with the delicate turnip. The chocolate fondant was definitely an injection of chocolate right to your heart, dense rich and full of flavor. If you are a chocolate fan, that's the dessert you were waiting for. Service nice and friendly. Overall good experience

Four of us had an excellent meal her last week. The food was first class, particularly the french onion soup and the smoked mackerel starter. The turbot main course was the overall winner, perfectly cooked fish with a delicious risotto and vanilla foam. We skipped desert in favour of the cheese board which was sublime. The service was good too.

I am a really fussy restaurant go-er. I know I am. But, I think I'm fair. La Mere Zou on Friday night for an early bird (€25 ish for 2 courses and €28 odd for 3 courses). It was srumptious. Absolutely perfectly cooked, perfectly presented, delicious food. I was so pleased we went. Staff were extremely polite and attentive without being annoying. Not cheap, but not over-priced. The quality of the food we were served was top class. I had deep fried brie baignets ( i think that's what they're called) to start, beautiful. The mixed basket of bread that came before our starter was delicious, with a chicken rillette, (sp?), sort of a shredded chicken in a small butter dish. Gorgeous. House wine was spot on. Only tiny criticism was the noise when it filled up, lovely when it's a little less packed.

Great food and friendly service. The downside is in the decor which falls short of the brasserie style it should be. For the price I would have expected the full package but I would return as the food was good. I recommend a little overhaul of the toilets and decor. With 2 bottles of mid priced wine wine the bill came to €300 for four (no deserts or coffees)...

I was brought to la mere zou as a birthday treat by my boyfriend ,my friends had eaten here before and raved about the place so we decided to give it a try ourselves. The restaurant itself was quite busy when we arrived but we were brought promptly to our seats by a lovely and friendly waitress. i had a really tasty deep fried brie to start .it was a really generous portion and came with a wonderful red pepper aioli. My boyfriend had the oxtail and gnocchi for his starter and it smelt divine when it arrived at the table . i'm happy to say it actually tasted even better .i was allowed to taste just the one spoonful of the generous helping before it got devoured in front of me. Beautiful rich beefy sauce complimented the succulent oxtail and gnocchi..A couple of jazz musicans began playing while we waited for our mains and it really added to the ambiance of our night. for our main course i chose a turbot dish which came with some perfectly cooked shellfish risotto . the boyfriend had a really great steak that he was very very happy with. again it was cooked just as he asked for which rarely happens anymore (medium rare is not a well done steak people !!)We asked for a little break after our main course then after taking in the recommendations of a helpful waitress we decided to go for the chocolate fondant. Gooey chocolate sauce oozed out of the centre of the moist chocolate sponge. Best dessert EVER best described to my friends as purely sexual . it was the highlight of one the best meals ive had in a long time thanks !!

My wife and I dined here for the first time last Friday based on the reviews read on Menupages. We weren't disappointed. We chose from the early bird menu. The food was excellent throughout the three courses. I had the rabbit fricasse which was amazing, so succulent. My wife enjoyed the chicken dish. The wine list was extensive and we selected a good Loire white. The early bird is terrific value. The only downside was a tendency of the staff to try and rush the courses as they needed the table for a second sitting. The waitress who served us was very attentive and friendly. Will definitely return to La Mere Zou

OMG!! is the best way to describe the night i had in la mere zou. From start to finish it was unbelievable. We had been told to visit by friends and walking past the restaurant finally decided to give it a try. We were shown to our seats in the french classical room by a lovely and friendly server . The choice on the menu was very good and we both found it hard to choose {it also didn't help that the specials sounded mouthwatering} finally we decided to share a crab starter and the beef carpaccio both were excellent ,very tasty and we were left wanting more !!.our main courses didn't disappoint !!her scallops were huge and so succulent that i thought maybe i had ordered the wrong dish for myself but i had a beautiful piece of sirloin that was perfectly cooked. We shared a molten chocolate fondant that was recommended to us and nearly fought over the last bite it was so delicious!! there'll be no sharing when we come back and we will certainly be back !!!!

Amazing quality of food! My dining partner had the early bird and i ate from the main menu and the quality on both was faultless. My scallops were absolute perfection and my partners chicken was also excellent. I have been going to la mere zou for years and have never been disappointed but i must say the food appears to be getting better and better on each visit. The menu changes regularly so frequent visitors always have a choice of some new options and the wine menu is excellent. This is fine dining in a beautiful restaurant on stephens green at as great price. Would 110% recommend to all.

I went here on a Friday evening with a friend of mine and availed of the early bird. It was absolutely brilliant value as the standard of the food really is very high. I got the french onion soup, which was plentiful and delicious, and then the steak. The goats cheese starter was yum and I would highly recommend the vanilla creme brulee for dessert. Portions were substantial so that we were perfectly full when we left - ideal for heading out for drinks afterwards! Only downside was the service - we were clearly forgotten about for a good 15 minutes after we'd finished our starters, and it was so busy it was virtually impossible to get anyone's attention. However this did not spoil the dinner at all as the food couldn't be faulted. Best value early bird I've had in a long time.

My partner and I ate here on Tuesday night and had a wonderful dining experience. It was a pleasant surprise to find the great value early bird now runs all night from mon-weds so we were able to avail of this. For starters we had a seafood chowder from the specials and we also had the crab dish these were both lovely dishes particularly the chowder, for main course we had the chicken and the cod and dessert the peach cobbler. We had water and a lovely bottle of spanish crainza rioja. Even though it was a Tuesday night there was still a nice atmosphere in the restaurant and the staff were friendly and attentive. This is top quality food in a romantic setting with fantastic value, I will definetely return and recommend anyone who hasn't been to try it.

Tried this restaurant for the first time last friday based on the early bird menu on offer. For three courses of excellent quality food i found it excellent value. The restaurant itself is nice and cosy and appropriately decorated. Service is generally very good although i thought over attentive in relation to pouring your wine constantly (maybe to hurry up the meal) but other than that very good. I had the goats cheese starter which nice although was crying out for somethign more sweet to balance it such as a red onion marmalade or beetroot. I had the chicken for main which was excelletnt and light and very tasty. One of my companions tried the cod and was equally deliscious. I had the vanilla brulee for dessert and it was delicious alhtough so sweet i struggled to finish it. The peach cobbler one of my companions tried was also excellent. We had a bottle of the cotes do rhones villages which was an excellent choice. I did find the wine menu a bit restrictive and it did not really offer any value or special offers and i think that should be imrpoved. The advertised wine of the month was straight out of its small menu and at the same price. Excellent value overall and i would recomend without hesitation. just improve on the special wine offers.

Went here for the early bird on a Saturday evening. The meal was delicious and excellent value. I had a leek and potato soup to start which was a bit bland - but I haven't had a better one since - while my companions all raved about their risotto. For main I had chicken in a grape sauce which was really good. The wine list is good; it has a good selection but isn't bewildering and prices range from reasonable to premium. Service was excellent and the atmosphere was lively. I feel that this early bird allows one to eat at an excellent restaurant for very little.

Had my first snails over there and i came back the next week:) Perfectly made, not slimy at all! I had business dinner in there and we all shared a huge platter of seafood - oysters, crabs, prawns, mussels - everything soooo fresh! They also give you water, olives and bread for free what you wait for your meal! Yum yum

In a nutshell: 5 stars all round! Their lunch time special value menu is the best deal in town. Was there with colleagues from work to take advantage and we ordered all different dishes. All looked and tasted great! I would recommend their ham dish for the lunch time starter. Best thing I've had in ages. Great authentic and attentitive service, a rarity!

My partner took me for lunch to La Mere Zou for my birthday. We had the current lunch deal which is 3 courses for €20, superb value for such a fantastic restaurant. I really couldn't fault the food or service. A great opportunity to eat delicious food in Dublin City for a reasonable price - we will definitely be back. I would have no problem recommending this resaturant to anyone!

Great restaurant! I ate here with my girlfriend for her birthday. I found the setting very nice and relaxing and the staff very friendly. We were served with some amazing breads, olives and dips while we were waiting for our first course. I had the snails to start which were delicious, as was the sauce they came in. My main of daulade was cooked perfectly and very tasty. Great all round dinner experience. I can't wait to return and try their early bird menu!

I went for early bird with my friend. There were a lot of choice from starter, main and desert which was very good. Very nice food and friendly people working there. Only one downside for us that a quantity of glass of wine. We didn't order a bottle of wine. We just ordered a glass each but wine was only a half of glass (or little less). I know that it should be outside of Ireland but In Ireland, you normally would get more than a half so I didn't like it. Overall, we really like it very much.

Went for lunch here with friends on Friday. I had the beef starter, very tender, followed by trout and spicy beans, not very spicy but trout was lovely. Finished with pancotta, very smooth and tasty. All in all, food was nicely presented, atmosphere was nice and relaxed, staff were efficient and unobtrusive and will definately be back for lunch as it represented really good value for good food.

This place does the best creme brulee in town! I highly recomment it. And their lunch and early bird specials are extraodinary value with no compromise on the quality of the meal. The service is always impeccable here too. The last time I was at La Mere Zou for lunch I had the pork belly to start in a Grebich sauce which was sensational. The grilled mackerel with chorizo and potato salad was perhaps not as phenomonal as one might expect, but overall the meal was fantastic.

I came here with some friends today to take advantage of the 15th anniversary lunch menu that is currently being offered. I've wanted to try La Mere Zou for a while now and I wasn't at all disappointed. The food was absolutely delicious and represented fantastic value. The service was also very good and what was particularly impressive was that we managed to have three courses without feeling as though we were rushing or being rushed. I will definitely come back here in the evening some time to try the evening menu and enjoy the ambience.

This was my second visit to La Mere Zou. We went for the early bird special so were eating a bit earlier than normal which is tough when the food is heavy French food. I had the pork belly with frog's legs to start. the frog's legs were quite gross and I think they were undercooked but as I'd only had them once before I wasn't sure so didn't say anything. Then I had the salmon which was delicious and the sorbet which was really fantastic. The service was very good and the wine was reasonable value. I'd definitely go back, hungrier next time and wouldn't order the frog's legs again! The restaurant itself is quite cosy but this can mean it's noisy enough if there are large tables in there.

La Mere Zou is a restaurant I've eaten in on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The food has been excellent every time. Great service. Nice atmosphere. Solid menu. Lunch here is particularly good value considering the high standard of the food, which has been consistently great every time I've been here. This is one of those restaurants that you can be guaranteed no embarrassment if you are recommending a place to eat for friends, except those who delight in finding stuff to complain about; they might feel hard done by with the lack of flaws they have to moan about. From the many times I've eaten here, I have not seen them have an 'off-day'. Dinner is a little pricier, as is to be expected, but given the location and the high standard of the cuisine, it's not bad value. A good, solid French restaurant that leaves little room for complaint.

I have been planning to visit La Mere Zou for a while and was looking forward to flavor its acclaimed french ambiance, food and service. To start on a positive note, I have been impressed with the attentiveness of the staff on a night - 5 stars for the service, guys! However the quality of the food had disappointed me a little bit, as my cod dish wasn't great at all, neither was my side salad. My boyfriend, however, found his stake tasty enough. The live music is a nice addition to the atmosphere, and the wine list is extensive enough. I'm not sure if I be back, maybe, for lunch, but certainly not for dinner.

OOOh la la. Oui,Oui,Oui. Our 1st visit to this little restaurant with the lovely french feel. There was a bowl of olives on the table to nibble on when we arrived and the bread to accompany it was crusty and moreish. We decided to share the charcuterie platter for 2. Brill choice. Enought for 4 people. Really unusual different things to choose from. Mr. Boop chose the "John Dory" on the specials board for his mains which he raved about. A smallish portion if you were only having a regular starter but ample after the hugh platter. I opted for the "rib eye" asking for it to be cooked with NO BLOOD visible. (as in French restaurants usually get bloody steak even if asked for well done). Well they took me at my word and it was on the slightly charred side (and only half the size of anyone elses due to this fact) but I still enjoyed it.The mushroom and spinach on the side were highly flavoured. Very tasty all in all. We shared the cheese board and it turned out to be a lovely selection with more crusty bread and crackers. The service was great and with all the lovely French accents to listen to, you would think you were in Paris. My only little grumble would be that the tables are REALLY close together and you can hear everything the tables next to you are talking about. So much so that we ended up chatting to the couple next to us rather than pretend we could not hear them. Will def be visiting again soon.

In these recessionary times, it's nice to visit a restaurant that gives exceptional value for money. This is one such restaurant. I started with an asparagus risotto with poached egg, followed this with braised daube of beef, and ended with a passionfruit parfait with a madeleine. Unbelievably, this delicious three course lunch came to just 20 euro. I had previously visited for dinner but will certainly be returning for lunch more often.

Nice food, although not fantastic food. Service was only OK and I had to remind the staff for my water. Overall, a nice experience but I wouldn't be rushing back.

A special evening here for St Valentine's Day. We have been on numerous occasions over the last seven years & it has never disappointed. The food is always fresh and tasty, especially the mussels. This time we had the rib of beef for two and it was a feast! The atmosphere is intimate & the service welcoming & excellent. It is very good value for money: an excellent restaurant at affordable prices.

I had a superb lunch at Le Mere Zou. Unlike many dining experiences I had in Dublin in the past were you feel rushed to vacate the table by...there was no such thing here at we felt comfortable throughout the meal. Lunch menu is great value at euro 25 a head for three courses. The beef and the sea trout were tasty and I am not exagerating if I say that the vanilla creme brulee was the best one I had in many many years. Correct friendly service by the team. I will visit La Mere Zou for dinner next time- probably very soon.

We were walking around looking for a nice place to eat. Stepped into La Mere Zou. It was early enough to get a table for 2 and what's more the waiter offered us early bird menu although it was already after 7pm. We jumped at occasion!! Food was good but not great. We actually expected a little bit more for this price. Service was unimpeachable (I personally don't like when waiter tops up glasses every 2 minutes but I guess it's meant to be like this). Even though we enjoyed, we won't rush to go back.

Service was great and the surroundings are very nice if a bit stuffy. The food, which is the main thing to focus on, is very good but probably does not deserve its illustrious reputation in Dublin.

If you like classic french cooking in an informal environment - then this place is for you. I adored the 'Rib of beef for two' it was prefectly presented and melt-in-the mouth delicious. The bread was rustic and fresh. We shared the Chocolate Fondant, and it was so good we were almost fighting over it. The only let down was the starter of mussels, which though plentiful, were slightly overcooked. Service was informal but assured. We also liked the two jazz musicians; playing the tunes we would listen to at home.

Great meal! We had the Christmas menu which was a nice change. The food was delicious as always. The Chicken Liver parfait was great if a bit rich, the Black pudding salad was superb. The main courses were excellent, but by then the place was full of Christmas parties and the noise drowned out mostof our conversation. Get a table in the corner if you can.

To sum it up - the worst French food I have ever had. And that's saying something. Went for an anniversary dinner with my girlfriend and was really let down. The starters (snails and a seafood dish) were bland, small and just nothing at all worth mentioning. The mains were basically just meat with no side vege or sauce - for the price I would expect a lot more. The atmosphere is not great either so overall a bad experience. Wouldn't go back. Ever.

My partner and I had the early bird menu here last week, very reasonable at 26euros for an excellent standard of food. OK the wine starts at 30€ but I still felt, overall it was very good value. The atmosphere was spot on, we could chat away in our own little world but waiters were there when we needed them. We were not pushed out the door either when our time was up which can happen with some Early Bird menus. I would like to come back again with a group of friends and see what they think.

great value for their pre theater menu... we were there few weeks ago, it was lovely. staff were very friendly. food was gorgeous as always... i had monk fish and scallops... it was really tasty. chicken was nice... only thing was the mash potato, it had way too much of cream in them... way too luscious... desert was second to none... definitely go back there again...

My boyfriend and I went here for our anniversary 2 weeks ago and were really disappointed. The snails that I had for starter were very bland and gritty, no flavour whatsoever - I've had better snails in Austria! The mains were very small, .ie no vegetables on the side and not much flavour either. The best thing about the meal was the bottle of red. The service was good, but for the price the ambience and food should be a lot lot better. Would not go back.

I was very excited about going for my second time but I was a little disappointed. My goats cheese starter was warm on the outside but cold on the inside, and my steak was over cooked and not of a high quality considering the price. The chocolate fondant was absolutely fab though and there was a great atmosphere there. Might have just been unlucky. I'll be back to find out some day!

I know pretty well the product they are using as I've been working for few weeks there and I can say that they are carefully selecting what they will have to offer (truffles when season, fish...). Also the service is quite pernickety and they will even care of not making an inch of sound when opening a bottle which is suppose to be High Class style.. Menu is quite simple, nothing amazing. However, as previously said the management should think twice about the ambiance and price should come back to more reasonable average (veges for 18eu..!?

Myself and my partner visited for the early bird menu . I have to say I was really impressed. The food was amazing , service superb. I felt in some places the early bird menu can be restricted , however not here - the choice was excellent and I enjoyed a rib eye steak while my partner had skate wing. Neither of us could fault anything apart from the overpriced wine menu as there was no house wine and the cheapest bottle was €30. A three course meal though for €26 each which was second to none was more than appreciated. Hope to go back soon

I've been here twice. Once for a work lunch and the last time for the early bird dinner. The menu is limited but not too bad. I had a goats cheese starter which was similar to goats cheese starters everywhere. For the main course I had a beetroot risotto that wasn't bad but the rice was just a little undercooked. The staff here are never friendly but not especially rude either. At €26 the ealy bird 3 course menu is reasonable but they make up the money in the hugely expensive wine selection. Overall it's kind of a bland restaurant. I won't be rushing to go back but I won't be upset if I have to go to another business lunch there either.

My first time to this restaurant. Heard alot of good review for this restaurant and therefore I choose it for my department (office) dinner. I think it is not up my expectation. I thought it is a 4 star restaurant. But anyway, food were good. The deco is quite old fashion. I think I won't be back if I have to pay the bill myself as prefer to try other restaurants.

My boyfriend and I went to la Mere Zou yesterday with a couple of friends of ours to try out their Early Bird offer. All of us were delighted with the ambience, service and most importantly food. At first we thought that portions were quite small, but after having couple of bites we realised that food was so rich that one couldn't possibly eat more. We all went for a goats cheese roulade to star with. It was delicious, so we were looking forward to our mains. My friend and I went for risotto. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was that rice was a bit undercooked (both of us noticed it) but the whole dish was full of flavour and I'd give it another chance next time I'm there. My boyfriend went for a Haddock and my other friend went for a Chicken. both of them were very happy with their dishes. We finished up with crème brulee (Which I think was exquisite), lemon tart and a selection of ice cream. Staff was very attentive and made sure that there's always water and full bucket of bread on the table. It's great value for money as 3 course early bird is only 26.50 I'll definitely be coming back as all in all it was a lovely and delicious experience. Well worth trying.

What's happened to this place? I've been here a few times in the last few years and I've always felt the food and service was a little behind the times- fine if you're conservative and boring, but I'm not! Early last month I was dragged back kicking and screaming by the Usual Suspects and found the place rejuvenated. There's a new chef in the kitchen and the improvement in the menu has woken up the staff- smiles all round and attention before you need it. I had the goat's cheese starter and a really good steak, but the scallop I stole from another plate made me want to eat there again the next week. Their Chocolate Fondant Dessert reminded me of a time when I could afford to eat in Michelin star restaurants, but this was actually better (and cheaper!). Four of us had the full three courses with 3 bottles of wine and it cost us €60 each, including a well-deserved tip. I've been twice since and the standard hasn't dropped, it really is tops for service and food (the ambiance still needs work, but I'm sure they'll get around to it).

Overall a good place but won't be hurrying back - we were 6 and all of us found it completely over heated, hence the mark down on atmosphere. That said we had a good meal and some unusual choices. The snails were lacking flavour, I have had these before and they are delicious if served right. The charcuterie plate is excellent but be warned - better shared among 3 than 2 as a starter, its huge! I had the duck, which was excellent, the confit delicious. My only complaint was that the root vegetables included cabbage and spring onion neither of which is a root last time I looked! In fact the only root vegetable was the carrots. That said all enjoyed the meal and the bill including a lot of wine was €500 which is good for us as the same group cost over €800 elsewhere!

I visited this wonderful french restaurant last weekend with my fiancee who was more than eager to sample the extensive menu. From the moment we entered we were impressed by the attention to detail displayed in all aspects of our dining experience. To start I had the foie gras terrine which I thoroughly recommend while he had the lobster salad and was very impressed. I ordered the scallops and tiger prawns which was delicious one of the tastiest seafood dishes I have had in a long time. He ordered the sirloin steak and was only sorry he didnt have enough room to finish it! Both of us barely able to manage dessert but it was inevitable having looked at the menu so I went with the strawberry & rhubarb which was crumbily superb and he had the red fruits gratin. Overall I would rate all aspects as highly impressive, from the service to the atmosphere but the food won overall. I will definitely be back for more!

the organic salmon tartare starter was bland and entirely forgettable but i held out hope for my main course my favourite bouillabaise - malheureusement the potatoes and veg were more raw than al dente and the tasteless seafood seemed a bit exhausted from the experience. the wine was undoubtedly the most enjoyable part of the meal - a bordeaux chateau st emilion grand cru. i finished with a few optimistic spoonfuls of my partners tarry looking creme brulee ...... alas another unremarkable unfinished offering limping back to the kitchen.

Visited La Mere Zou last week and was delighted with the range, quality and atmosphere. We popped in without a reservation on a Wednesday evening and were lucky to get a table considering there was only two tables free. The first thing to strike you is how authentic the room looks and how it really sets the ambiance of the restaurant. Service was friendly yet never over familiar or rushed. The menu offered good choice, particularly in seafood, and the wine list had good variety. I tried the Mackrel with couscous to start, while my partner chose the panned goats cheese. Both offerings had great flavours that worked well together. For the mains I went for the special of the day - Pork Belly - wonderful flavours particularly from the accompanying sauces which as with the startes worked really well together. My partner chose her French favourite, the Bouillabaise. The offering was generous in portions and certainly tasted as authentic as the surroundings looked. All in all a very good offering which I can recommend to anyone wanting to sample great flavours in a nice authentic atmosphere.

10 days ago 6 of us availed of a special 3 course lunch for 19.90, that's wat decided us to go after hearing mixed report recently. The menu was a choice of 3 starters, 3 mains and 3 desserts and some a la carte options were available with supplement. Service was fast but not pushy, the food was what you would expect for lunch, simple, tasty and well presented. Special mention for the desserts which were fabulous. Lovely selection of wines by the glass at a set 5.95 price and we left absolutely satisfied. We'll sure go back soon.

Went there last friday for lunch (heard a lot of good comments about their new menu) we were not disappointed by any means!! To start with, the place was packed which is always a good sign. We decided to go for the 3 course menu and we were amazed by the quality (and the quantity) of every dish. As well, even if it was busy, within half an hour we had finished (service is discreet and very prompt) and were given a very reasonable bill for our treat!! Highly recommended

My best dining experience so far in Dublin and probably the most creative cuisine on the "golden mile" where all menus are the same!. After sharing a absolutely unique charcuterie platter She loved her sirloin steak with Bearnaise sauce, just perfect as I got a taste of it and I adored my scallops and confit belly pork. Desserts were top class, chocolate fondant and hazelnut parfait. The wine list reflects the originality of the menu and the service so friendly and efficient. Well done!!!

The great La Mere Zou - I think not! We tried this place for lunch recently and it was very disappointing. Why is it that some restaurants treat you differently when you dont buy a bottle of wine? Initially we were welcomed and offhandedly placed a a table for two. Maybe it seemed offhand because we were only one of four occupied tables in the room - which says a lot. We were attracted by their much touted lunch menu offering which is forgettable to say the least or the most. A duck salad without duck, a duck confit with sliced potatoes all served on the same plate (to make it look substantial I presume) and a badly decimated brulee was the make up of a disappointing meal that cost us over €5 for two (what happened to the €9.90 for lunch?) A miserable attempt at a cappucino rubbed salt in the wound Never Again!

We were in Dublin for the week end and been recommended La Mere Zou by the hotel. Dined Saturday night and it was absolutely delighful. Fine food, perfect service and live jazz. I ordered scallops and my wife a rabbit in red wine sauce on suggestion which were faultless, the chocolate fondant was to die for and lemon tart a sin. Decided to go back for lunch on Monday before flying out and although it was more simple we enjoyed it as much as Saturday. We'll be back!

Ah the weekly lunch out scouting for good evening places to eat.Himself and I graced La Mere Zou today and were under whelmed to say the least. I went, mouth watering and euros at the ready to have L'Oceane, scallops mussels and prawns. Sadly it was not on the menu and the only fish choices available were mackerel and organic salmon. I am so tired of salmon fillets plunked on a plate and served with a salad of leaves readily available at any decent carvery in town), one almost raw small potato (which I left on the plate) half a boiled egg (ice cold from the fridge) and half a tomato. I know now from reading their menu here that it was to have been served with aioli which never appeared. The other half ended up with a salad of leaves that needed a search and rescue team to find the duck pieces in it(this was their offering as a starter) and a leg of duck that was once again plunked on the plate, unadorned. The joint was definitely not jumping. There were only 3 other tables occupied with politicians taking a long lunch. For dessert we shared a creme brulee which had split. I know there is competition next door but that's no reason to let your quality slip. As the man in my life likes to say 'You only get once chance to make a first impression'. The lunch cost the best part of 60 Euro with two cappuccinos which came and I kid you not in a tea cup. We won't be back but will be dining next week at their nearest competitor.

Went here as part of a group of eight and was very disappointed. It was an early reservation and we were discouraged from ordering a la carte (as opposed to early bird) because they needed the table back and we might not have time. This time pressure continued through the whole meal even to the point of 'you might not have time to drink your coffees'. My main issue is, however, with my meals. I ordered a starter of crab meat and salmon tartar. There was NO CRAB whatsoever, it was entirely salmon. It was fresh and tasty, but I ordered it only because I love crab. Very disappointing. For a main I ordered the scallops at a price of 30 Euro. For this price I got four small scallops and a huge bowl of plain boiled potatoes. That's it. I know how much potatoes cost! The scallops were nicely presented on a shell...but no matter how artfully presented, this was a rip off. The dessert (chocolate mousse) was good though. The others seemed to have better experiences with their food, but overall this was a great example of Irish restaurant totally relying on its location and Irish consumers paying high prices just for the sake of it. I will not go back.

Easily the best overall eating experience I've had in Dublin this year. The menu isn't extensive but is well-rounded. The venue had a mix of couples, groups of friends and families which I always think is s great sign. It's casual but the food is of a very high quality. Our waitress was very attentive but laid back. All in all, the place has a really good balance to it. Loved it!

We ended up in La Mere Zou on Monday night, it was busy enough and quite enjoyable. The place is simple, food is nice without fuss and service very friendly, efficient but not intrusive. The bill was "reasonably" expensive. We left totally satisfied and would surely recommend this place.

Was in this restaurant two weeks ago and was looking forward to it but I was very disappointed. The staff were not very friendly. Ordered a main course and I got the wrong one. The bottle of wine myself and my boyfriend had was completely over priced. The only nice thing about the meal was the dessert. Was not very impressed. Would not go there again.

We were really looking to eating here, but were quickly dissapointed. At first we were placed at a table by the door which put us at risk of frostbite. The restaurant was very busy and I wonder if they were short staffed, the waiting staff were polite and helpful but it was a constant battle to gain their attention for simple requests, like taking our order. The food was mediocre, at best. Easily the nicest dish was the oysters that my partner had for starter; the wine was also very reasonable. The service was erratic and slow, and because of this we were the last to leave the restaurant. We were compensated with free desserts, but for me this restaurant failed on very fundamental aspects: food, service, value for money. Would I return? No.

Excellent Excellent. We went here July 12th to avail of the Bastille Weekend menu and loved everything about it. From the friendly but discreet service to the lazy attitude to time. (We spent over 3hours over dinner drinks & coffee. Beef fillet was terrific, lobster best I've tasted in Dublin. Capaccio starter was stripped straight from a fresh steak or so it seemed. Deserts terrific also. We were still looking at the menu when we realised we'd be going back. Atmosphere was very laid back, all about the food and the chat. Highly recommended.

I went here for dinner last nite for the first time. It wasn't that busy and we had our pick of tables. The staff were realy friendly and helpful. I had escargot for starters and Prawn and scallops for mains. I really enjoyed both courses. My boyfriend has a bacon and poached egg salad for starters and a steak for mains, I had a tatse of the steak and it as cooked to perfection. Two french coffees to finish, it was a really enjoyable meal, little bit expensive but I would return

Went there last week with 2 of my friends. What a great experience ! Everything was perfect : a warm welcome, friendly and efficient service, not too intruding like in most of other places ! and most of all, food was absolutely delightfull. Highly recommended (ask for the seabream, it's a great dish)

Wasn't mad on this place at all. Fairly expensive for what you get. Service was ok, Plenty of places in town that would be better.

Had dinner there yesterday. Anyway, had the foie gras on toast + gywurst. For starter, the foie gras was cold, a bit pity for that. My partner had the terrine de campagne, that was good. The bread, which is generally a delight in itself was a bit too hard and not so fresh... the pigeon farci is highly recommended and its sauce is fab! The mussels are always a great dish too, although this time, the portion was smaller than usual.. mussels don't cost that much! The desserts were abs. fine (creme brulee + apple tart). Service was Okay, nothing exceptional, it was much better a couple of months ago though. The room was almost full and thus very noisy, felt like in a pub at some stage! Can only blame the customers on that one!

Went for the early bird on March 6th and found the menu to be very limited. The food was good but the dinner was little more than finger food although it was tasty but very small portions.

Its nice but nothing special. I took my parent-in-law on Saturday night, the food was nice but nothing amazing. Our bill came to €197 for 4 people with one bottle of wine between us. The service was good, however the waiter kept looking at the people coming in the door as he was taking our order which really annoyed me. Also there is only one ladies toilet in the hall, so you have to stand in the cold doorway entrance for the toilet to come free. There was 2 musicians in the corner which was nice but too loud for such a small room.

It had been a while since I'd eaten here and it didn't disappoint. It's quality French cooking and not too pricey....the Foie Gras Terrine was sublime and my duck confit was excellent although I've had better elsewhere. The only gripe I have is the room is a bit dreary...doesn't really matter when the food's as good as it is though.

Myself and 3 friends ate in La Mere Zou on Saturday night for the first time. I was very impressed. The restaurant has a friendly cosy atmosphere, the service was very good and the food was great! It is the type of place to bring someone for a special occassion. I will definitely return for a second visit.

A smallish restaurant with a lovely atmosphere. A very professional operation with every aspect being run to perfection. The menu is not extensive but nicely seasonal - we visited in November so it had a lot of game. Food quality was excellent and the service just right. Great entertainment was provided by a couple of musicians squeezed into a space by the door. The clientele was varied with a mix of ages and nationalities with couples, groups of friends and business people all enjoying their night out. Definitely worth a repeat visit.

To start I had the charcuterie - probably too rich for an empty stomach but that was my fault. I had sea bream as a main course which was delicous. Sea bream can be bland but this was delicous. The saltiness of the olive paste and the sharpness of the tomatoes lifted it. I too over-indulged on the bread so skipped dessert. Had a fantastic coffee though. would definitely return.

Really loved this place. Meant to go for a long time and went for christmas meal with my husband. The decor and atmosphere are lovely - tables are very close together, but this adds to the atmosphere of the place. There were lovely green and black olives on table to pick at (we ate them all) and the bread was warm and delicious. We went for christmas menu 45 eur each and had gorgeous parsnip and apple soup to start and very generous portion too. I then had confit of duck to start - the nicest I have ever had, just fell off the bone and so tender and juicy. My husband had a haddock fish pie dish which was also lovely but a bit heavy for a starter. I then had seabass with chorizo for main - again absolutely lovely but I was seriously full at this stage (at too much bread!) and my husband had pheasant, nice but a litle bit chewy. For dessert we had creme brulee and pudding - both lovely but I left my husband to eat most of both. We had 2 lovely bottles of wine and were not rushed out so were there for over 3 hours and it was lovely - will definitely be back!

I was here for lunch this afternoon and was pleasantly surprised. The wine was superb, fantastic list and very reasonable. The mushrooms to start were fab. I did find my ribeye steak a little chewy, but the dessert menu at least compensated. Great value for money!

This has to be one of the nicest restaurants in Dublin. The staff are extremely pleasant and attentive. The early bird menu is good value but the night we went we went for the a la carte menu. This menu is reasonably priced for the quality of the food on offer and its location. I had steak the night I was there and it was cooked to perfection.

Went here on Saturday the 27th of October with some friends. Had a really lovely meal. Service was great and food really sublime. Starters all good - potted crab, asparagus, goats cheese tartlet. The steak which 2 of us had was melt in the mouth and deinitely as good as Dublin's more famous steakhouses at half the price. It came with onions, chunky chips/wedges and a lovely pepper sauce (I asked for more). The other 2 had fish - sole and scallops which they loved. One of my friends picked the wine - 2 white and 1 red which were on the recommended list - very nice too! To finish a shared cheese platter and unusual dessert of homemade marshmallows and melted chocolate which was really delicious. One small gripe is that the seat/booths near the windows are very close together so not really a lot of privacy - if that's what you want! Looking forward to our next visit though !

Ate here on Tuesday night (8.30pm) with two friends. The restaurant was almost full when we arrived (fortunately we had booked!) - and the only downside to the whole evening was that the volume of 'chatter' was quite loud (wooden floors, tables & chairs - with little in the way of 'soft' furnishing contributed to this). Leaving that small quibble aside, the food and the service were excellent. I had a beautiful steak - though I could have done with a second appetite to get through it all - which equalled Shanahans in taste but came at about half their price! My two friends both opted for fish as a main course, and were equally impressed. Starters were also good - and while we all skipped dessert, the choice was good. An excellent Bergerac wine, a bottle of sparkling water and tea/coffees completed the meal - which came in at a good value price of 161 euro excluding service. I have not been to this restaurant for a long time - but I'll try not to leave it so long before paying a visit again.

A truly lovely evening was had by our table of 5 last night. We were greeted by very pleasant staff and shown to our table which was in an alcove and was sort of semi-private. Perfect for a good chat! I shared a wonderful chartuterie board with one guest and followed that with the Loin of Lamb with wild mushrooms and boudin noir. It was sublime! Perhaps a little too much black pudding maybe ( But that is only a personal feeling - one other guest thought the amount was just right!) We had a fantastic St Aubin 1er Cru to start and followed with a nice Cairanne. Desserts and cheese ordered and coffee. The Maitre D' offered us a complimentary digestif which was gratefully accepted. Overall, a lovely evening. I have been there a number of times and never been disappointed.

We were treated like Kings. This place is pricey but the early bird menu is good value. The food was superb. Even when the place got busy the staff were attentive. I had fish (cant remember what kind at the moment) but it came so well presented with the perfect spices. The deserts are something else too.

Place is wonderful!! Went a couple of weeks ago on a Sat and they had a jazz band playing, really great! Food is excellent and well priced, had the Steak for Main and the Lemon Tart for dessert. Lovely atmosphere and staff very knowledgeable and friendly. Will be back. By the way, saw Little Britain Stars David Walliams & Matt Lucas coming out of here after lunch last September at the time of their shows at the point. They seemed happy.

This is a real gem of a restaurant!!! Great location but not everyone knows about it yet thank god! The menu is quite varied, been there 3 times and each time the food has been completely different but just as good! The welcome you receive makes you feel like you're at home in your grandmothers kitchen and the prices are very reasonable for the great food, atmosphere and service you receive. Once we had a table for 3 1/2 hours and they didn't rush us at all. Really good place

We recently visited La Mere Zou for a sendoff from work. Feeling a little adventurous I opted for the snails starter. It was very surprising but very tasty though I'm sure garlic was seeping from my pores for the rest of the evening. Taking a home choice for mains the Steak was super, excellent cut with great sauce. Desserts are heavy but if you are a chocolate fan the mousse is superb. Service was very good, very efficient and at the same time friendly.

We recently went to La Mere Zou as a special treat recently - it had been recommended to me by various sources. I have not enjoyed eating out as much as I have here in as long as I can remember. The staff are the most professional, experienced and yet unpretentious I have had the pleasure of dealing with in years, the atmosphere was lively but not overwhelming with very subtle background music. The food was delivered in a timely fashion and was of the highest standard. We had the escargots and the salad for starters with the choucroute to follow as a shared main course finished off with a pressed chocolate soufflé and an Armagnac. I do not remember the last time I enjoyed a dinner experience as much. The staff was friendly and extremely attentive without ever interrupting a conversation or approaching the table at an inopportune moment. This restaurant is pricey - however, not above reason considering other Dublin restaurants of a supposed similar standard - but worth every single centime as far as I am concerned. I will be sure to visit them again at the next possible opportunity!

A good quality French restaurant that offers better value for lunch than it does for dinner. I'll admit to being an infrequent visitor, but whenever I've gone, I've enjoyed my experience, if perhaps felt I was paying more than should be necessary. Duck confit and lemon tart both linger in my memory as being worthwhile. I've encountered live jazz on Saturday evenings that is played (amazingly) at an audible but not intrusive volume - something that most places abysmally fail to achieve. Good wine list too.

Been in there on a business trip a few years ago and went back last weekend with my wife. Good and reliable food, not the same all food that is found on other menus. Live Jazz was being played and the atmosphere was just fantastic! The best place in Dublin for an informal or romantic dinner. Will definitely be back next time I'm in Dublin.

I have eaten here several times. I usually go for the early bird (5-7pm) with friends after work, its very good value and the food is delicious. You may not always like the early bird menu but there is a fabulous selection on the a la cart, but be prepared to finish by 8pm as the restaurant is always busy. The staff are very pleasant and well trained and authentically French. Wine by the bottle is a little expensive but there is a good choice of wine by the glass. For a special meal or just a chat with friends, it's great.

Great restaurant. Food is excellent, based on classic French dishes, often with a nice little twist. Extremely nice and friendly service. Nice warm and well decorated room. Not pretentious at all. Only two small downsides: a bit noisy, and a bit expensive. In conclusion, it's a great place, for a very enjoyable and memorable evening.

I was here last Friday for the early bird with my boyfriend which is great value at only 24.50. He ordered from this menu but I couldn't resist the mallard in filo pastry that came with a delightful little pot of red cabbage that made the overall dish to die for. We ordered a bottle of the house white which was also surprising good for a mere 21 euro! The chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream topped it all off and we rolled out of the restaurant with heavy bellies but not light wallets. Needless to say, I plan on returning on a regular basis.

I was here a few weeks ago and I have to say this was the nicest meal I have had in Dublin in a long time. The food is simply delicious and I challenge anyone not to like the Duck Confit! Both my partner and I had amazing starters and fabulous mains. Desserts were also delicious. The service was very 'French', but not to the point where the waiters think they are better then the clientele (i.e. Patrick Guilbaud). Atmosphere is romantic and cosy. To top it all off they had two jazz musicians play music that helped us sway into the evening with wine glasses in hand! Will definitely return and not too pricey either.
