Il segreto translates as "the secret" and this little gem of a restaurant has been a secret to me for the past few years. Despite walking by this area on a very regular basis, for some reason the venue never "appeared on my radar". Having been given a voucher as a gift, myself and my wife paid a visit on a lovely sunny Sunday evening late March. We were being offered a table in the restaurant when the outside patio area caught our eye, and with the weather being so pleasant we decided to eat outside. This outside area was absolutely gorgeous - the smokers must be delighted ! With the unseasonal weather, and the pretty patio, we could have been in Italy or Spain. The food was really nice, portions may have appeared a little small, but considering we were planning to have all three courses, they were more than enough. The danger of sitting outside and not receiving attentive service was not an issue, as the waiting staff were very careful to ensure they popped out regularly despite there being only 3 tables of two occupied. Back to the food...for starters one had scallops with pancetta which was a remarable dish, well matched, and cooked to perfection, the other had foie gras, which was excellent. Our mains were a lovely fresh cod dish with spinach and potatoes and a chicken dish with leeks, bacon, mushrooms etc, and was delightful. We finished with a superb creme brulee and cappucinos to end a remarkable meal. One observation (not a criticism) was the heavy French influences on the menu, when we would have expected a more Italian leaning. This was certainly not an issue for us, but maybe others might expect a more Italian menu.

My boyfriend and I decided to have a romantic dinner outside the house for a change. Excellent choice I have to say. Although the portions may seem small, they are actually the right size to appreciate the whole menu. The starters and main courses were lovely presented, cooked to perfection and well balanced in terms of flavours. If you are not going for a pre theatre menu or have some sort of discount card it can be very steep, specially if you add a nice bottle of wine, like we did. Just two things that made me slightly disappointed. As we chose a more intimate corner, we could see some no so pleasant wine boxes just beside our table. Moreover, one of the reasons we chose the restaurant is because it says to have coeliac options. However, this is not stated on the menu so you kind of have to guess. Which they had some sort of lactose free deserts too, but then again, most restaurants don't catter for people with food intolerances like myself and my boyfriend. Will go back one day (for the pre theatre though)

I was here with a group of friends and had the Pre Theatre Menu at €23.95 for 3 courses. I had the Goats Cheese starter, fillet of Cod and Crème Brulee, all 3 were delicious and presentation was excellent. The waitress was very attentive and I thought the meal was excellent value. I would definitely return and would recommend this restaurant

Visited here on Friday 27th April with some friends. Had the early bird special. For starters we had the Goats cheese, crab salad and mushroom soup. The soup was superb. For mains we had the shoulder of lamb, chicken chasseure and the fillet of cod.The food was delicious, however the portions were very small. Perhaps the restaurant could look at increasing the sizes of the main courses.

Brought to dinner here last night & chose the crab salad as starter---bad mistake as I needed a magnifying glass to see it ! My wife's goat's cheese salad was flavoursome & plentiful ! We both opted for the lamb but were v diasappointed to see it arrive in the shape of a large sausage---oops ! a bad presentation with a few hard vegetables let the restaurant down badly.

A nice warm welcome on arrival is always a good start and we were shown to our seats straight away, so first impressions were good. The restaurant is well laid out with nicely spaced tables. I ordered the Crab Salad with celeriac remoulade to start and my partner had Pan Fried Scallops both were nicely cook and well presented. The only down side was the size of the Crab Salad, it was tiny! For our main course I went with the Braised Shoulder of Connemara Hill Lamb, it was exquisite, cooked to perfection however the same couldn’t be said for my partners Breast of Chalon Duck. It was far from perfection, so much so that she said she didn’t think she could eat it. So I tried some and all I can say is it was as tough as Chuck Norris! We didn’t want to spoil our evening by complaining so we swapped meals and ordered more wine. We both were in agreement on the lamb it was really nice. For dessert I had my usual Selection of Homemade Ice Cream (not very adventurous I know) and this was joined on the table by a very tasty Vanilla Crème Brulee. Now to the best bit… after dinner cocktails… my oh my they were good and well worth nearly doubling the bill. I have to say despite the glitch with the duck we both really enjoyed the ilsegreto experience. The staff are nice not overly attentive but there when you need them and there is a great atmosphere. We’ll be back but we’ll skip the duck.

What a beautiful restaurant, had a lovely night on Saturday evening. restaurant was warm and inviting and a holiday feeling about it. food was excellent, i had the rocket and parmesan salad to start, yummy and had a great dressing, followed by the cod on mash with the spinach, my frend had the clams and langoustine which she said was good but filling, then some homemade ice cream was delicious, a bottle of pinot Grigio and another two glasses later finished off a great meal and very reasonable at €120

I visited this restaurant with my boyfriend early on a thursday evening. I had been drawn to this restaurant because of its beautifully decorated exterior and the interior is much the same. The menu for the early bird was very well balanced and reasonable enough too.I started with the goats cheese salad while my partner had the salmon. Both were ok but nothing spectacular. For the main i had the fish (it was a white fish but i cant remember exactly which) and it was very nice. My boyfriend had the the lamb and was equally satisfied. The service was very prompt as it should be for a pre-theatre menu which was good. All in all, il segreto is a very nice restaurant where the decor and atmosphere really make the experience one to remember.

I organised a night out for a big group in Il Segreto. It was recommended by a friend. I must commend the staff as they were very helpful in organising the night out and never looked for a deposit or seemed to mind me changing the numbers regularly. It didn't seem to be a problem they are obviously confident that the restaurant would be full any way. My first impression is that the restaurant is small but it was very busy when we arrived I though we could go to the terrace for drinks but we were directed to the pub next door for drinks as our table wasn't quiet ready. The service was a little slow However the food when it arrived was very tasty with the portions quite small. As we were on a group menu the choice is limited. With the service charge at the end the bill was expensive. The highlight of the evening was the band which started playing on the ground floor, we were not rushed out staying there until 2am with a full bar service. Definately a good place for a group night out if it is a special occasion.

Used a citydeal voucher here last week. This allowed us to have 2 starters, 2 mains from the al la carte menu and glass of wine each. It was a sunday evening when we went in, and were seated in a secluded corner. The place was busy but was perfect atmosphere for 2 sore heads on valentine wkend. I had the scallops on mouselline potatoes - absolutely melt in the mouth. He had duck salad with poached pears, and was also really tasty. For main course, had pan fried fillet of cod with crushed potatoes, again really well cooked; and lamb 2 ways - poached and braised, which was definitely the winner - really succulent and fell apart when touched with the fork. Finished off with a dessert between us with teas and coffees. Its a very high quality of food, just enough topping up of glasses without being intrusive and will definitely be coming back here again!

Business lunch - Nice ambience / very nice food. Service quite poor - 4 different waiters/waitresses attended our table - long wait for dessert (had to cancel in the end as mine arrived about 20 mins after others)... then had to ask twice for the bill & even though restaurant was nearly empty, it never arrived and I had to walk up myself to pay. Recommend they try assign 1 waiter/waitress to a table. Nonetheless very nice food and a pleasant experience. Good menu - recommend the 'belly of pork'.

Went for an Xmas party with a group of 10 friends. We ate from the €45 set menu & the food was excellent. I had quail to start & venison for main which was top class. I wouldn't have a sweet tooth but the waitress had no problem bringing me a cheeseboard even though it wasn't part of the menu. Staff were brilliant & had no problem engaging with the group. Have been recommending the restaurant to friends ever since dining there.

A superb night. We booked for a late Christmas get together and luckily were able to secure a table at short notice. The food was gorgeous, I had chicken for my main and the rest of the party tried almost weverthing else on the menu. Its such a busy place and the waiting staff are efficient and nice. Overall I would highly recommend this place.

Second visit in a year and its gone up hugely in my estimation. For large grouped xmas parties food is normally thrown out of the kitchen but there was no sign of that. Scallop starter - devine. Monkfish main course - devine. Can't fault the food on taste, presentation or portion size. Service a little slow and lacked attention but atmosphere made up for it. Highly recommended.

Fabulous restaurant... Great food, lovely staff together with a really relaxing atmosphere make this one of the nicest restaurants I have been to in ages... I had the Pan Fried Scallops with mousseline potato, pancetta & garlic butter to start followed by the Roast Breast of Pheasant with creamed cabbage , pancetta, spiced apple and bread sauce for main and both were really lovely... It is not often you get pheasant on a menu and it was very well cooked... We will definitely be back and possibly go for the early bird next time as it is great value and even available on a Saturday night.... I had the creme brulee for dessert which was lovely.... All four of us really enjoyed our meals and the evening in general... We will be back :)

ate here on friday night. nice welcome and good drinks at the bar before we were shown our table. but then came a poor service. we have been waiting for the menues, for the wine list, for the wine we ordered. and when we asked about for bred or steaknifes for the beef, the waiter responded very unfriendly and very arrogant. the 17th november was my birthday.it should be a special night for me. will be back in some months time.

Had a very enjoyable evening in Il Segreto on Friday night. Four of us came for the early bird at 6.45pm where we were warmly greeted on arrival by host and maitre-d. There is a great atmosphere in Il Segreto, the front has an outdoor heated area were you can eat which is very cool, and inside we had a circular booth table which was very comfortable. The early bird at 23.50 for 3 courses is excellent value. I had the goats cheese salad which was plentiful and tasty, the cod for main which which was on the smaller side portion wise but again extremely tasty, for dessert I had the cherry creme carmel which I was ok a good size if a little on the bland side but fine. Friends had lamb shank for main which was an extremely generous piece and they said very tasty. They also tried the chocolate tart for dessert which they said was divine! I was pleasantly surprised by a great atmosphere, tasty food and good service at Il Segreto and will definitely be back.

Ate here on a Saturday night for a birthday. We got a lovely welcome and sat at the bar and had a lovely glass of wine before we were shown to our table, The atmosphere was lovely, really romantic and warm and cosy. I had the Scallops to start which were nice but were overpowered i thought by the pancetta which it was served. I had the Grilled Rib of Beef for my main and was very disappointed as it was very fatty which made it pretty much inedible for me. Also while we sat and ate our meal a party of ten people sat beside us so the standard of service for us dropped some what and had to ask twice for the steak knife, and side of chips for my partner and also just generally felt ignored. The restaurant was uncomfortably warm also. All in all generally i am in no rush back

A great menu, beautiful Scallops to start followed by a Fillet Steak. A party of 6 of us sat in the outside dining area. A real trendy spot, prices are good for the quality and surroundings. A nice welcome too.

I ate here this weekend as part of a large group (+10) and was most dissapointed. I ordered the scallops starter, which was very well prepared and tasted great. For the main course i ordered the medallions of beef, medium to well. The orders of beef all arrived at the same time and i was presented with a rare cooked which i confirmed was not my order and away it went. We had waitied some time for the initial arrival so hence iw as dissapointed it had to go back. Not 2 minutes later a replacement was presented and very quickly the staff member was gone. The beef was as rare as they get, having alread wasted enough time waiting i was not going to bother to try again and the steak was eaten by a friend. This toped with waiting 25 minutes for a beer to arrive, left me very put off the place. Service can make or break an opinion, and i can say i have never been so dissapointed with a restaurant. The food may well be excellent (judged on the scallops) but the service needs a lot of work. Personally i would not choose this as a venue again, very very put off by the hole experience.

Used our Living Social Deal last weekend and can't believe this was our first visit. Amazing food, great wine, very pleasant staff even though they brought the wrong starters, but we didnt mind. Food is to die for, we had the scallops and salad to start and lobster linguine and monkfish for main. All dishes were faultless. Shared a chocolate tart for desert which was beautiful - very lucious! Would definitely visit again

My husband and I discovered this restaurant through Living Social Deals- We had one of the nicest meals that we have ever had in Dublin! The food was delicious- my husband says the grilled steak was the best he ever tasted.I opted for the beef medallions- melt in the mouth! The desserts were to die for and the wine (included in the deal) was excellent. The service was top class- all the staff were working so hard and were so attentive. Il Segreto was a wonderful find and I have already recommended it to my friends. There wasn't a thing we could fault!

My husband and I dined here last night on the living social deal (2 starters, 2 mains and 2 glasses of wine). We were very disappointed. After the starter arrived, the waiter did not come near us for the rest of the night!. The wait between the starter and main course was way too long. 3 couples who arrived after us had their starters eaten and we still hadn't got our main course. Then the table next to us who arrived at least 15 minutes after us got their main course before us. We got a lame excuse from the manager that they were eating pasta and my husband was having beef which was done medium rare. I hate to think how long we would be waiting if it was well done!. My starter was just ok..duck with watercress salad and some dressing..it was more salad than duck..non descript really. My husband had scallops which were nice...I had partridge which was served with a tiny portion of red cabbage and small portion of mashed potato. The partridge was nice but not enough on the plate to counteract the strong flavour. My husband had the beef. It was ok but i have tasted nicer in other places. We were left with no drinks as well between the starter and main course. This was bad value for money and DV. we did not have to pay the full price. The waiting around and arrogant attitude of the manager left a bad taste in our mouths and we will not be coming back here again and you wonder why restuarants are closing down!

Ate here last night with my partner - I purchased a living social deal (2 Starters 2 Mains 2 glasses of wine €39 ) excellent value! We both had the scallops to start- cooked perfectly - presented really well. We had a glass of multipulciano a really nice wine! Mains - I tried the beef medallions and my partner the rib eye of beef - I can honestly say my medallions were the best I have ever had - So so soo tender - It melted in my mouth - they came with bone marrow, on mash , truffle butter and some mushroom sauce- all so complementary together. My partners rib eye was accompanied by chips. We ordered a side of green beans - a nice large portion arrived. We are not really desserty people- and were too full anyway… It was one of the nicest meals I have had in Dublin in quite a while! The staff were excellent and attentive, the atmospheres was lovely for a Thursday evening! If you are trying to decide on somewhere for a nice meal – book here – you won’t regret it! Would I go back? We made a reservation for 4 for a few weeks time -on a Saturday- when after 10:30 they have some music - really looking forward to it already!

Enjoyed two courses at Il Segreto. Scallops and Crab salad for starters were both delicious and accompanied with freshly made complimentary bread. Grilled rib of beef, fries and bernaise sauce for two was absolutley delicious. Beef was so tender it melted in my mouth, thumbs up!... Would completely recommend!

Dine here last Wednesday with a group of 4 of us, and not one of us was dissapointed with the food. I had the Crab starter which was very simple yet really tasty, followed by a breast of chicken with leek, delicious. The general consencus was brilliant food. The service was a little scattered at times, but overall a great evening.

Went here for a family birthday and the staff were excellent and highly attentive. The majority of us at the table went for the set menu which was great value. I had the crab salad which was a bit on the minuscule side and perhaps looked even smaller than it was because it came on such a huge plate. I had the Pan Fried Fillet of Cod with crusted potatoes, baby spinach, house dried tomatoes & squid. It was tender and full of flavour. Even though the portions seemed small I was full afterwards. Everyone else enjoyed their desserts and the staff were kind enough to bring out a slice of chocolate tart with a candle for the birthday guest when requested. Selection of wines was great and cocktails were delicious and good value for money. Overall we all enjoyed our meals which were very flavorsome, staff were excellent and we had an excellent evening. Would return.

Went to Il Segreto with 4 friends on a girls night out. Food was good, I had the soup and steak, which was good. We had a few bottles of wine which made the meal quite expensive, and took a little away from the over all enjoyment, however I would go back again and would recommend it as a venue, the bar and live entertainment was very good and it was nice to be able to stay in one location for the night. My friends all said they enjoyed their meals and would go back .

I went to Il Segreto with my husband and we both thought the whole night was excellent, food, atmosphere, service. As for value we were lucky enough to have bought a living social voucher earlier this year which we redeemed there. First thing to say is as a regular purchaser of daily deal vouchers from a variety of websites we've had mixed experiences when it comes to restaurants - limited days you can use them - restricted menus - lack of flexibility - but of all of them I'd say the Il Segreto deal was the best value. We were able to pick from the a la carte menu and the waitress was happy to change our wine choice. The food was exceptional (the scallops, rib of beef, turbot were highights) and the helpful and friendly staff were a pleasure. We'll definitely be back (and happy to pay full price next time)

I was in this restaurant with a group of friends, and I don't think I will be back there again. The food was ok. I had a steak (which was good, cooked exactly as I asked), but that was about it. My mixed salad was rocket with sun-dried tomatoes, no fresh tomatoes or cucumbers (though it's the middle of the summer!). For the starter I had a crab salad, which was ok, but came in a tiny portion on a large plate. We were having group set menu and for the price you pay you would expect a bit more of a starter. The service was the main thing that put me off this place. Our waiter was all business (no chit-chat), and on my side of the table after people made their starter and main orders he asked for a dessert order straight away. As we realised later, the other side of the table only ordered starters and mains, and when we were brought our desserts, they had to ask for menus to order theirs. One of the girls decided to skip the set menu and order from a la carte, and she was not offered a dessert at all. Also I asked for a different side dish with my main, and the waiter took this order, however, when the mains arrived, I still had the side that I did not want, and my requested side arrived only later. Overall impression - pretentious place with bad service and I won't be rushing back here.

Having been a fan of Bang, I decided to book for 2 in Il Segreto. I wasn't dissapointed. They offer an Early Bird, but we opted for the a la Carte, 2 Main Courses, I had scallops which were cooked to perfection, and my guest opted for the Rib of Beef, we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir, which was a little expensive, but delicious. We shared a cheeseboard, they staff were attentive and friendly yet not ott, The bill came to around €110 which given the quality and service was good value. I will definitely be re-visiting soon.

This was my first time in Il Segreto. We had a deal for dinner for two so we decided to give it a try. I will definitely be going back here again! For starters we had the Scallops and the Goat's Cheese and Avocado salad, both of which were lovely. For main we both went for the medallions of beef, we both really enjoyed that and they were perfectly cooked to our liking. If you like Whiskey the Jameson 41 cocktail is a must! Overall, we had a lovely meal here, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We are already planning when we'll go back!

really enjoyed my visit here. I had the steak which was one of the best I have had in Dublin for that price. I went with a deal and the starters were also very good. Overall very nice food and not fussy service.

I don't usually write bad reviews and don't like to unless I really feel strongly. Unfortunately an experience here last Saturday night has left me delighted that I have at least this forum to voice my disappointment. We had a 9pm booking. My guest arrived early and was left standing around waiting. When I arrived we were shown to our table. Our waitress was really lovely, though we suspected she was a new member of staff so in fairness to her she was let down by her colleagues, most of whom were run off their feet and let the customer down. Too many managers and not enough floor staff in my experienced opinion. The food was very disappointing. We both had the lamb main and from description expected a hearty sauce. There was not really a sauce to speak of, more juices from the meat (which was the only good point). The beans/veg that it came with were way undercooked and could have done with a good bit longer soaking before cooking. At about E23 it was way overpriced. The atmosphere was nice but the tables too close together (conversations easily eavesdropped on). The positives were a glass of montepulciano wine and the chocolate tart which was devine. No way either of us will ever be going back for either though.

Starters of duck salad and crab salad were amazing, something to write home about. Steak was amazing, but cod was bland. The staff were inexperienced and she took my boyfriends plate before he was finished rookies mistake. Glad we had a city deal as otherwise it would be an expensive night out, but would be worth the money.

I have to say I had an amazing meal in Il Segreto….from the setting to the food, everything was perfect. I chose the Scallops for starter which was possibly one of the nicest starters I’ve ever had (well definitely up there on top of my list). For my main I went with the Lobster & Asparagus Risotto which definitely lived up to the starter and was equally delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I’d have no hesitation going back again.

Visited Il Segreto last week for the first time. The menu is right up my street with a good variety of options to suit all tastes and the food did not disappoint. The scallops for starters were beautifully cooked as were the main courses of Turbot and Beef. We also got some side dishes which were a good enough size to share between two. I’m not usually a big dessert fan but I went for the white chocolate parfait and it was divine! There is a good choice of wines by the glass which suited us as we didn’t want to opt for a bottle. Service was excellent from the time we arrived. Definitely a new favourite worth visiting again!!

I bought one of those Deals vouchers on Deals.ie and got a meal here for €40 for two people to include 2 glasses of wine, 2 mains and 2 starters. From the moment we entered, they were aware that we had a voucher, but they treated us absolutely no differently to anyone else, they were pleasant, attentive and effortlessly courteous. We were greeted at the door by one of the Stokes twins, he showed no sign of the worries that the papers claimed he was experiencing, he showed us to our table and took our coats. The meal was stunning, my Fillet steak was the best iv had in... well i cant remember the last time i had a steak cooked so perfectly. Our starters and Sweet was also spot on, we ordered more wine and cheese and loved every second. Next time i wont wait for a voucher!

I ate here on Saturday night with my boyfriend. From what we seen of the restaurant we loved but we did not get to see much as we were seated to the left just inside the door. I cannot compliment the food enough. It was exquisite. I had scallops for starter and my boyfriend had the duck, which I would both recommend and cod and lamb for mains! The waiter that served our meal to us was very polite and friendly. The only thing that put a dampener on the night was the waitress who was serving us as she was very unfriendly and didn't smile once. I will definitely be returning to Il Segreto in the future!

For starters we both had the scallops and bacon on mash, which was delicious. For mains I had the steak on mash and it was really lovely. My partner had Dublin Bay Prawns with linguine. While not quite as good as the steak, it was also excellent. It was very tasty with the fresh tang of the sea. We dined as a couple with a discount voucher and this included two glasses of pretty good wine (which we topped up with an extra glass each). The only fly in the ointment was a table of annoying and voluble diners near us, who seemed intent on prolonging the Celtic Tiger crassness, regaling each other, and the restaurant, with their self indulgent tales. Overall an excellent dining experience. With the voucher it was unbelievable value, however without the voucher it would be expensive. However, for a special occasion I would recommend it.

Having been big fans of the original Bang restaurant, My husband and I were really looking forward to trying Il Segreto. We were not disappointed. The atmosphere is great. The food was absolutely excellent,we couldn't find fault with it. My husband was particularly happy to have the scallops again which were an original bang dish.Their side dishes are really good and a decent size. The service was friendly and unpretentious. and although they were very busy we never felt rushed or ignored. We will definitely be back. I would recommend Il segreto for a great night out.

I and my partner ate here a week ago. The food was delicious and the restaurant is lovely. We both had a duck salad with pears to start and then lamb for a main course. The only thing that marred our evening somewhat was the waitress who was serving us as she was very unfriendly and didn't smile once. Looking around all the other staff appeared to be lovely. We ate here using a discount voucher and was pleasantly surprised that the wine included in the price was really nice. One thing that did annoy was the optional service charge that was automatically added onto the credit card receipt without asking first. As our particular service was so unfriendly we would not have left as much as we had been charged. We would recommend this restaurant, however will know to request that the service charge is not automatically added to the bill in future.

Enjoyed a great meal here last night. We were a party of four and were warmly greeted and well served throughout our visit. I ordered the crab starter which was very tasty but on sampling the pumpkin salad would have been very happy with that too. The other two in our party enjoyed their duck salad and ravioli respectively. Onto main courses, great selection to choose from but we all settled on beef, either fillet or rib eye.. a little on the under done side, only by Irish standards, but I must add they still failed to disappoint!. Good selection of wines by either the glass or bottle and were all at pretty reasonable prices. So overall, hats off a very enjoyable evening had by all and look forward to coming back again.

Ate here with a friend a few weeks ago and was very impressed. Started with the scallops and Cod for main, all washed down with a delicious Pinot Grigio. The atmosphere is lovely and the service was also very attentive. Would recommend.

Had a fantastic meal on Saturday evening thanks to a living social voucher which offered fantastic value. The place was buzzing, we even had the live music singer sing to us. Had the scallops to start which were perfectly cooked and a steak for the main which was a little overcooked for my rare tastes. The wines by the glass were of reasonable quality. The theatre of the evening of was simply fantastic and the quality of the food was all round excellent. Due to the place being so busy service did suffer.

Myself and some girl friends had an excellent meal at Il Segreto last night. We were warmly welcomed at the door and the service was impeccable all evening. The birthday girl was even treated to a kiss from our friendly waiter. I had scallops to start and beef medallions for my main. All the food was top class. The beef was cooked to my idea of a perfect medium rare and the portions were extremely generous. More like two fillet steaks than two medallions! The girls also loved their lamb, steak and fish mains. The value was amazing, because we had a voucher, but the early bird menu looked like a good deal too. There was a great buzz about the place all night. I envied those sitting in the lovely cushioned benches at the round tables, or those sitting by a waterfall of fairy lights on the terrace upstairs. I can’t wait to go back.

This is a really nice little spot and I've never seem Team Bang work harder to ensure the highest possible standard. They have turned themselves around in every particular. The food was exquisite and the service conscientious. We started with some of the best scallops I've ever had and enjoyed a main of bream, which was both beautiful and delicate. There roof terrace is wonderful and am told hosts live spanish music at the weekend.

I had dinner with my boyfriend in the "Il segreto" yesterday. And I have to say it was absolutley beautiful. I think it was the best dinner I had in ages! The service was fantastic..outstanding, the food was a bit "coldish" but still lovely and really tasty. They have a lovely smoking area upstairs, the supervisor (?) brought us up when we finished our dinner, he was really friendly. We definitly will come back to this place and we will recommend this place!!

I was here on a saturday night. It was pleasantly full (with a hen party upstairs!) so good and lively. The food was gorgeous. The scallops were so tasty I was sorry I didnt have them for mains, although the cod in the lemon and squid sauce was delicious and perfectly cooked. The lamb chump was also perfectly cooked, and simply presented. The Argentinean Malbec on the menu was wonderful, and the live Spanish music downstairs really complimented the whole evening. I will definitely come back. We both remarked that we could have been anywhere in the world, Spain, South America, France, whilst sitting Il Segreto on a rainy evening in Dublin. The managers have done a great job.

Went for a work dinner. Beautiful decor inside with dim lighting giving a very warm atmosphere. Service was excellent and friendly attentive staff. I wasn't overly keen on my main (fish - skate) but the rest of meal was delicious. It's a little pricey so would only go back for an occasion. Great location as very close to St. Stephens Green.

Great experience. Myself and a friend ate here on a friday night. Really nice restaurant - fantastic outdoor areas and a cool bar. Service was good - casual and friendly. Food not amazing. Scallops were nice - only three however and with a really salty puree. Rib-eye was cooked well, but they come with lazy frozen bag skinny chips. Not too inspiring. But it was the band and the atmosphere and the great team of people that work there that really made the night for us. Yes ... a band!! Very cool spot to sit hang out and have drinks. Will be back for sure.

I visited il Segreto last Saturday in a party of 6, our table was booked for 8 and we ended up sitting there until 1 am, there was at no time pressure on us to leave. The food was amazing, the staff extremely friendly and at 10 a Spanish band started playing, which was amazing fun! We opted to stay in the restaurant rather than go on to a pub! I will definitely be going back, we all agreed it was one of the best nights we had in ages! We sat downstairs near where the band set up, however there is also an amazing terrace upstairs!

Dined here with 27 others for the early bird. Starter was lovely. Main was very small and only 1 veg. Portion was so small had room for dessert so was really looking forward to sticky toffee pudding. It was cold and hard - unedible and I wasn't the only that had this problem. Those that ordered the eaton said they got very little meringue or in several cases none. One of our group asked at bar for change (so they put pay their portion of the bill) and was told to ask at the meal cashier, where they promptly told that it wasn't a bank!! You would think they would appreciate getting 28 people in January and make them feel welcome. Won't be back.

Went to Il Segreto with a party of 6 for dinner, nice atmosphere in the dining room and a warm reception was a good start, they have nice smoking area outside as you enter the restaurant itself, ok selction of breads with olive oil were placed on the table whilst we ordered, decent menu in terms of options and an extensive wine list, noted that on Fridays and Saturday there is music in the dining room as it also classifies itself as a piano bar. I any case, to the most important thing which is the food, scallops for starters were excellent, served with crispy bacon and mash, these were excellent, other diners in the party had the salmon, ravioli and soup of the day and there were no complaints, all very happy. For mains, I had the fillet of beef which was excellent, cooked to perfection on my request this was served with an additional side of fries with garlic aoili, the fires were a little uninspring to be honest as they looked very much like frozen chips but based on the steak itslef this was somehting i was willing to forgo. Again, other diners in party had cod & john dory and again people were quitley impressed. Desserts were good but not great, chocolate fondant was a little spongy and dry although the ice cream was excellent whilst the feedback on the eton mess was less than enthusiastic and they had forgotten the meringue. Note on the wine the sancerre and the barbera were very good, water at 4.50 a bottle is a little steep however i must admist that the service was excellent, attentive without being intrusive whilst all staff were particulrly friendly. At the end of the meal our party were offered a complimentary round of drinks by the manager which having eatne in an abundance of restaurants in Dublin is not something that occurs often so it was very well received. An excellent night, good food, nice ambience and surroundings coupled with great service all amounted to a great night in Il Segreto

Visited here on Saturday night with my husband for what turned out to be a very good meal with great atmosphere and surroundings. Food was delicious and the eton mess I had for dessert was just amazing. It was very busy however but I think the staff handled it very well. I would however make one small criticism, some of the staff members felt the need to rush around, nearly colliding with customers in their haste. In my experience this very rarely gets things done any faster, staff would be better off keeping a close eye on what needed to be done in an efficient but less rushed manner. Overall though it was a great experience and we will be back.

Twelve of us had booked for 7.30 on Friday night and were were shown upstairs. 2 of the party were late but this wasnt an issue with the staff who were more than helpful throughout. This is a great restaurant and for a party of 12 with 7 steaks ordered you could have expected one meal to be cooked incorrectly or coldish or delayed, but not the case. the house wines were selected and were of a resonable quality and suited the different meals sufficiently enough. The staff were very attentive and were on hand when required without being a burdon or looking as if they wanted to get home. The only issue was the risotto which I had ordered and thought it was a bit heavy but tasty enough, the lamb special was was just that and was a great choice by one of the party. We eventually left around midnight after the live music which was pleasant backdrop and not over powering. This is another restaurant where we will be back and its good to see that eateries now seem to be stepping up to the mark to provide high quality service and food at realistic prices, thank heavens for the demise of the Celtic Tiger

2 of us went before going to the concert hall on Thursday. We arrived at 5 but they werent open til 5.30 but the manager let us sit at bar and wait and have some wine. Greeted with a smile by manager and barman and very warm welcoming. The place itself is lovely, decor is comforting and cosy and the servers very relaxed and friendly. We loved our starters, goats cheese and ravioli...the mains were just as nice. The joint was mouthwatering. I had the monkfish...this was the only dissapointing thing. Very small portion, kinda oily and accompanying sauce wasnt great. They probably should have recommended a side dish. All in all, i will be back and ill try a different main, easily in my top 3 restaurants in dublin now!

It was my first visit and was disappointing. The restaurant let itself down on a number of fronts. It was the day before Christmas eve - a day where it snowed heavily in Dublin. I met two friends there for 12.30, there were no other diners in the restaurant. We were given a table for two....please, please restauranteurs, do not put more than two people at a table for two. Its not comfortable and you end up trying to balance three dinner plates on the small table (and yes, they are small tables!). We waited an hour (restaurant still practically empty, presumably because of the weather) before we got any attention with the exception of being given menus. I was on my lunch break so was under pressure. Staff were pleasant and food (I only had time for a main course at that stage) was good. However, the waiting time for no good reason and the small table really spoilt the lunch. Restaurants, please take note.

Went here for our anniversary dinner as I had read a review promising great things! Though the service was fine and the piano playing was excellent I found the food overpriced and aside from the starter of goats cheese salad, the food did not have the wow factor you would expect for the prices you pay. I don't think we will be returning here again.

This really is a mixed bag. We liked the food although portions are on the small side. Starters of chowder ( too salty) and pasta were nice. Their bread was delicious but we had to ask for some. Main courses of steak and Cod were very tasty. we ordered a side portion of grilled veg which was very small. The deserts of sticky toffee pudding was the onlly dissapointment. The pudding was cold and only a small amount of toffee.... it should be smothered !!!. Service was very prompt, the background music is quite loud and really the wrong choice. Tthe staff were great. Used my hi - life diners card which saved me 30 Euro on the bill. Nice evening overall

Was in here last Thursday night for the Menupages night - my first Menupages night and also my first time eating here. I was juts blown away - first of all a really great night - everyone was so friendly and chatty and secondly the restaurant was just divine! All us Menupages people were upstairs which was great as felt like we had place to ourselves. The staff were all very friendly and attentive. Was greeted with a cocktail on arrival - can't remember now what it was but it was good! For starters i went for the shrimp and for mains I went for the lamb - both cooked to perfection! The portion sizes were just perfect, inf act i was too full for dessert. The meal also included plenty of wine! All in all a really enjoyable evening - I'm really looking forward to my next visit!

The night out dining experience was less than satisfying. The offer was 55 Euro per person and for a couple a totalled bill of 110 Euro is something that you would expect to get a great value of, especially in todays climate. We went for a 3 course by ordering shrimps in coconut dip as starter. My husband ordered risotto and I was tempted to taste the lamb with vegetables as the main dish. Despite tiny portions and not fully packed of flavour there was no wow factor you would have expected from the dish. It sounded better than it tasted in the end. The dessert was ok but in general the service is something than gives a room for improvement, everything took longer than it should be. The were 25 people in total invited for the night out but the service was not really great coordinated. The weird thing that happend to me and I must say I have never experienced this before is that I have ordered a prosecco and the prosesso was poured into a red wine glas which really is wrong and the basic mistake you woud not experience from such a etablisement. So lesson to pass on- prosecco is to be served in a champagne flute glass. In total 110 Euros for two persons- quite much from what we got.

Had a lovely Early Bird here on a recent Friday evening with a friend. Staff were extremely helpful and friendly and food was delicious. Though we'd booked for Early Bird as we were still drinking wine and there were still tables available we weren't asked to vacate the table. Will return and would highly recommend.

Simple meal for 2 with a glass of wine each, we both had the lamb for the main and was cooked just right. The side was minimal & would have liked a bit more however it was enough to fill you. Sauce with the lamb was devine. Never had a sauce like it! mmmmmmm! Price was a tad on the upper scale but not overly pricey. Would recommend for a really nice special occasion.

I have been to this resturant a number of times for dinner. I really enjoy a night here. The food is consistently good, the menu changes which makes returning easy to do. The service/staff is always impeccable, friendly (without being overboard, a fine balance), knowlegable (not always a given as it should be in a good resturant) and attentive. The piano entertainment adds another enjoyable element to a lazy weekday night after an early meal. If you are looking for a venue for a large group as I was last year, I would highly recommend il segreto. The outdoor areas are a welcome addition.

Il Segreto is fantastic! I went again on Friday for about my fourth or fifth time and it was as good as ever. The special offer is great value......would recommend the ravioli! Delicious! Cocktail menu is great value and the atmosphere is really good, with live piano music and a great buzz. Couldn't recommend highly enough. One of the best italians out there and brilliant service.

I have become quite a regular customer at "Il Segreto", it has become one of my favourite guilty pleasures for business lunches to just a nice meal with my wife or friends.. The reason for it being guilty is that I always enjoy the food way too much and end up having antipasti with fresh beautiful breads, starter, main course followed by dessert! I would highly recommend this restaurant for it's superb food, it's flavours and quality are second to none. The staff and always friendly and are always keen to make sure you enjoy your experience at Il Segreto. One visit I asked for something that wasn't on the menu and they accommodated even though the place was extremely busy, now that's what I call service. "Questo e' il mio ristorante preferito"

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. Ive eaten here on many occasions and have never had a bad experience. The staff are all polite, professional and friendly, and the food is delicious. I love the cocktail bar and the barman is always more than happy to make up any concoction you suggest. There is great atmosphere in the restaurant especially on nights when there is live music. A meal in Il Segreto always turns out to be a great night whether youre with friends, family, colleuges or a hot date!

Ate in Il Segreto with my partner on Saturday night. This was my fourth visit to the restaurant, and once again we found the food, service and general atmosphere to be great. From the moment we entered we were looked after, and the only time I touched the wine bottle was to have a closer look at the label as they were so attentive at topping up our glasses. Will certainly be going back again!

Popped into il Segreto for lunch yesterday and had a wonderful time. Great food, gorgeous venue, lovely staff and a very reasonable price. The one dish we always know is on is the ravioli. Cooked to perfection... al dente, with a refreshingly zesty lemon sauce, silky and smooth, it's a real delight, I can see why the restaurant say it's one of their most requested dishes. I'll be back!

My wife and I went here with the citydeal voucher (a real bargain). The service was polite and friendly and the food was good. The voucher certainly made it great value but I would be reluctant to pay full price for the dishes we received (overpriced by 5-8 euros per dish). There are other established eateries within 50 yds of the place that provide more refined food for less. A pleasant night out but there is better value to be had around the area

A Friday night at the end of summer one would expect a restaurant in a prime location like Il Segreto to be buzzing at 9:30pm, I was therefore somewhat surprised just how quite the restaurant was when myself and 3 friends dined here. The terrace was full unfortunately but where we were seated upstairs we were the only diners with one other table. Thankfully the company was excellent so we didn't notice. Service was very good, with a good recommendation on wine without going for the most expensive. The menu has lots of tempting dishes but more than a little over-priced. I skipped the starter but at €14.50 for prawn cocktail which my pal actually didn't finish as she described it as 'rank', that is daylight robbery! The other starters of smoked salmon and salsiccia at €12.50 were declared good choices but still pricey. Mains ranged from €19.50 for a pasta dish to €34.50 for rack of lamb. I went for grilled hake served on a scoop of potato at €24.50 and it was excellent, as were all of the mains. It does really annoy me that restaurants still insist on charging extra for veg on the side at around €4 per dish. With 2 bottles of 'reasonbly priced' Italian wine at €34 each, plus apéritifs and after dinner drinks, the bill came to €260 before service charge. The food was good, the service was good but I still think it's over-priced and wonder how long they'll keep people coming in at those prices in this economic climate.

My boyfriend and I went here for a meal last Friday night. I had a voucher from city deal. I have to say the food was absolutely gorgeous, the nicest steak I've ever had in a restaurant. I had the goats cheese salad to start and my boyfriend had the scallops. Both were delicious and just the right portion size. However they were quite expensive at over €11.50 each. We both then had the steak which was amazing and well worth the 29.50, in fact I would have paid more! The only thing I could fault with this dish was that there was a little potatoe cake type thing accompanying it and this was barely luke warm and tasted a bit stale but as the steak was so good I didnt really care. We then both had desserts which are VERY pricey! €6.50 for three small scoops of ice cream and €10 for any other dessert. We had a lovely bottle of wine with the meal and the bill came to €160 but with the voucher we only had to pay €80. I would definately eat here again but I would be going for a main course only as I feel these are reasonably priced but the desserts are so over-priced that it would put me off. I must also mention that the service was excellent, we had a lovely waiter, who never let our glasses empty and was quick to clear our plates.

Went to Il Segreto a long time ago and enjoyed a beautiful meal. However, my second visit was not as nice- the food was all right- some of the dishes we ordered were really good- for example, the cod dish of the day, but some of the others were lacking flavour- for example, the lamb. We had vouchers to get a free cocktail but felt cheated as it was their "cocktail of the day" which seemed a fob-off to what the voucher implied. All in all, a great evening because of the company but I wouldn't be raving about this place as much as I did in the past!

After eating in Il Segreto last Christmas and enjoying the evening, we decided to visit it at the weekend. Unfortunately, our experience was in stark contrast to our last one. The restaurant was empty when we first arrived (6pm on a Saturday evening, not a great first sign). It didn't succeed in filling up at any stage so one would expect that the service would be top notch as they only had one couple to please. Service was poor, with nobody topping up our glasses with water or wine and an unfriendly bored manner to boot. My starter of scallops was tasty if overpriced but my partner had the signature Ravioli dish, which tasted processed and unoriginal. My main was a risotto which was far too salty. I acknowledge that this may be a personal taste but I did mention it to the waitress, which was met with a grumbled apology. Again, my partner's main was bland and uninteresting. We were offered a sambuca as 'compensation' for the risotto but at that stage, a sambuca is not what we were looking for. With the restaurant still empty, we left. Only that we had a voucher for this restaurant, I would have been disgusted with a total of over 70 euro for what we got, one dessert and no teas or coffees. Was not surprised to see restaurants in the neighbouring area heaving with people...this restaurant is lacking in comparison.

Two of us went here on Satruday night and had a wonderful time. We were seated outside on the terrace with heaters and as every tabel was full there was a lovely continental atmosphere. The food was fabulous, and i couldn't fault the service at all, jsut as our glasses were getting empty a waiter was alsways there to refill us and there was a perfect 10-15 minutes between courses. The only downside is that it is quite expensive and there weren't many people inside at all, so i would recommend requesting a terrace table if you can.

Average food, terrible atmosphere! I was really looking forward to visiting this restaurant as I had heard a lot of positive reviews. Myself and my partner went here on a Sunday evening and were greeted by an almost empty restaurant - the atmosphere was terrible throughout the meal. We had cocktails on arrival which were delicious, followed by the soup of the day to start along with the seafood chowder. Both starters were quite nice - especially the chowder. However the main courses weren't all that fantastic; I had the rigatoni with shellfish marinara and my partner had the fillet steak - overall the meal was very average which wasn't helped too much by the terrible service.

Used my City.deal voucher to eat here on Friday night. Had fish of day which was monkfish with cannelloni beans, spinach etc. Fish was cooked to perfection but it was missing sometime! My partner had the rack of lamb which at 32e should have been fantastic, he said it was nice but there was an unsual crust on it which took from the acutal meat. Lovely bottle of Italian red and a lovely antipasti starter to share . Decor is very nice & the girl serving us was very friendly. Enjoyed it but very expensive

Living in Dublin we are blessed with so many great places to eat and my husband and I try to experience as many good restaurants as possible. We ate at Il Segreto, for the first time, on Friday night and we were totally blown away. Being a lady that demands good service and exception food my standards are very high and I can genuinely say that this was the best meal we have ever eaten anywhere in the world....and we are well travelled. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and if you are reading this review

possibly one of the best restaurants I've been to in Dublin in the last two years. I was offered fresh fried squid as oppossed to the deep fried calamari.. sublime, texture of the fish was unreal good kick of chilli, crisp rocket salad was a hit, halibut with chorizo and borlotti beans was equally good, even seasoning, justenough salt, manager offered us dessert from the early bird, I had the rhubarb soup...divine, mascarpone ice-cream mmmmmmm...lemon polenta tart, never heard of it before but delicious with a crisp peach sorbet, the athmosphere was electric, full to the brim, cocktails for 2 under 20, dinner for 2 under 50 total bill 90 even. best choicw in a while x

I ate here last week for lunch with 2 clients and i have to say it never fails to impress. The staff are wonderful, attentive and have an eye for detail. The food is divine and i could eat here every night of the week. Even the bread and dips are beautiful. Once again i went for the Ravioli Magro and it was scrumptious.

Had a good night out here with friends. As it was one of the first fine evenings of the year - some tables were set outside on a balcony with heaters and lovely lights. It looked great but not warm enough to entice me outside. Maybe during the summer. The food was grand and the service very good.

Went here for lunch with colleagues. The restaurant was offering main courses for about 10 euro so we selected from the value menu. When the food eventually arrived it was quite good but the service was appallingly slow and we had to ask several times for water, cutlery and condiments so not very switched on to the needs of their diners! I would not recommend this place for people on a work lunch break. Nice maybe for a leisurely lunch with a friend.

i had vouchers which needed to be used urgently so i booked into il segreto with my boyfriend on a random friday in january. they were doing a 3 course menu in january so i was a bit disappointed that all the dishes on the website were not available. But this was the only fault i would have. the whole experience was just fabulous. Our waiters were all italian and very friendly. the wine suggested to us was divine and despite my misgivings I thoroughly enjoyed the food. I will definitely go back, and contrary to other diners experience, i actually found it excellent value for money.

Ate here on a Sat night and was pleased to see you could avail of the early bird 3 courses for 24.50. I had the crab spring rolls for starter and my friends both had the bruschetta, all very good. For mains I had a wild boar and mushroom lasagna which was something a bit different, it was fab, really flavoursome and the lasagna was not too heavy. My friends had the cod which was cooked perfectly and the lamb which was really tender. Sticky toffee pudding with ice cream for dessert finished off a really good meal. The restaurant is lovely inside and there was a good buzz. The service was ok, although we almost got the next table's orders, twice! The value is however outstanding and I so would def go back.

January value in a great Italian eatery. Having received a voucher for a now-closed sister restaurant, our vouchers were luckily accepted at il Segreto. Not knowing what to expect, we were pleasantly surprised by the welcoming staff, great interior decor and atmosphere. The value was terrific - €30 for three courses on a Saturday night - although the wine selection was more limited in terms of price. Our food was delicious. Not too fussy, but definitely "posh-Italian". The only real downside was the lack of service attentiveness on this busy Saturday night. Served by almost all of the staff throughout the night, we did not feel looked after, despite the earlier warm welcome.

It was my second time eating here and both the food and the service is as good as I remembered. The staff are excellant, among the best service I have received in Dublin. Our party of 3 all opted for the three course menu for €24.50. Each course was delicious. Would definitely eat here again.

What a waste of a night !. We had a table for eight people which was perfect - but that is where it ends. The starters were miserable- and we had to ask for everything as he kept forgetting the bread etc - when it did come it tasted straight from a packet and not freshly baked as on the menu. We also had the discomfort of the waiter dropping a starter of seafood chowder over one of party - not great !! The main courses took forever to get to us and again we had to keep asking for the veg and potatoes !!. No one thought that the dinners were very good. The ice cream I asked for was so small that I had to look twice in case I missed it on the plate. There was nothing good at all on the night - and the restaurant gave us a couple of bottle of wine free after the mishap with the chowder. This is an expensive restaurant and unless they improve greatly I cannot see surviving very long.

What a complete rip-off! 55euro per person for their Christmas menu - which included Starter, Main & Dessert. We were a party of 8: 5 orders of Smoked Salmon, 1 chowder, 1 goats cheese salad and 1 house Ravioli for starters. The Smoked Salmon (far from "award-winning"), was meant to be accommpanied with Wholemeal Bread - instead what appeared was the equivalent of white croutons, which you would throw out for the birds in winter! After asking for brown bread, I think we were served McCambridges! Goats Salad wasn't much better: a slice from a baguette topped with a matchbox size of goats cheese. The house Ravioli (5 tiny pieces) was particularly disappointing - I don't believe it was homemade- more like a 5 minute boil from frozen. My main of Venison Wellington was overcooked and chewy, the porchetta stuffed with Turkey didn't receive great reviews either. The house special of Sea Bass seemed to go down well, despite the portion being quite small. Side orders of vegetables were overcooked, however a thumbs up for the potatoes! For dessert, we had a pityiful choice betweek Ice-Cream or Chestnut cake - you can't do much wrong with the Ice Cream, but the Chestnut Cake didn't taste of much. Despite a slight mishap with service, we were looked after well in the end by our waiter. It's a awful pity a place with such good atmosphere and decor couldn't produce on the food front!

Went for an early bird for a birthday celebration and were not disappointed. Very pretty restaurant, good service and really delicious food. Would definately return. The only criticism is that the waiter kindly asked us if we'd like a glass of prosecco on arrival and we said 'yes why not, its a birthday'. It was lovely, but when we got the bill we realised it was rather expensive and had we known we wouldn't have ordered it.

My boyfriend and I were really looking forward to il Segreto as we'd heard some great things but we were very disappointed. On arrival, we were led to a table that was only an inch or two from ladies who were on dessert and cocktails as we sat down. Dont get me wrong I love a bit of atmosphere but we were literally sitting on top of them and could hear every detail of their conversation. However, a glass or two of vino and we'd be grand... A very surly and cocky waiter brought us our menus and asked us after 50 seconds if we were ready to order -no mention of specials, just snappy and rude . We asked for a few more minutes and quickly looked at the wine menu to be ready for his return. He didn't re-appear for ages and when he did it was with a big sour face. Charming! This continued throughout the service and was eventually comical after a few glasses of wine... The food part of the meal started out beautifully...my starter was perfect;. Ravioli al limone -it was covered in a light, delicate, buttery, lemon sauce - heaven. We were delighted and started to relax and really look forward to the mains...so we waited...and waited...and waited some more...and about 25 minutes later our mains arrived, no apology -nothing. My boyfriend went for the lamb and it was incredibly disappointing - tiny and extremely tough. The flavour was alright but he was starving afterwards -for €32.50 you would expect to be blown away -we weren't. He mentioned it to the waiter afterwards who didn't really seem to care. I had the catch of the day - it was fine, over cooked but still tasty. We moved on and at this stage our waiter changed, the new guy was friendly and we decided to try some dessert to rectify the evening - lemon tart. Im a big fan of all things lemony but this really was a dud. Low on flavour and ice cream that had bits of ice throughout - crunchy! The other reviews are all so positive we may have caught a bad night. If I did go back Id stick to pasta

The resturant is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The service was top notch. My only negative comment is that it's a pricey, so can't afford to dine here as often as I would like, but it will be on my list to celebrate special occasions.

I visited Il Segreto for a business lunch on a Tuesday, the restaurant was very quiet and we therefore had 4 different waiters (all of whom were very pleasant) attending us throughout the meal. I ordered the Organic Courgette & Spinach Tortino for starters and was very disappointed, it was very bland and dry. The main was very disappointing also, I ordered the daily special which was roast beef....and I have never been served meat with so much fat as I was that day. The ratio of fat to meat was 2:1. I wouldn't revisit this restaurant again.

It's refreshing to know there's place that doesn't let you down! Been there on average once a month and always enjoyed the experience. The pasta is cooked to perfection and the risotto is memorable. At my last visit, I arrived a little earlier and paid a visit to the bar first. There, I discovered that the cocktail list is just as exciting as the food menu + the barman knew his trade. I put this place on my list of 'safe to go with clients'.

An enjoyable evening. The food taste and presentation was delicious and service by the waitress was attentive (until we tried to get the bill!). The Ham Hock and House salad starters were very tasty. The pasta main course a delight and the dessert was a real work of art. Will definitely return. That said - IF I was asked to find fault (and you can always find fault if you look), I thought the music a tad loud and intrusive and the waiters at the bar spent a lot of time loudly conversing amongs themselves. Not enough to put me off though.

I have spent several weeks considering carefully my review of il Segreto. Overall the visit to the restaurant was enjoyable and in the main the staff were exceptionally friendly. Food was of a great quality and was enjoyed by everyone. That said the reason for the below average rating was to highlight the less that ideal service. Food could have been warmer and arrived in batches. People with food in front of them, waited for minutes while others were served. Need to put some thought into service, We had a group of 11, not massive. I would love the opportunity to visit il Segreto again... but perhaps more as a destination for a date. Has great potential, but expect to pay for what you get.

Our group of 8 had a lovely table upstairs which was intimate and very well looked after by the waiter. We ate off the a la carte menu since we were 20 mins to late for our 7.30 reservation. The menu was well thought out and we enjoyed the starters of butternut squash soup, buffalo mozzeralla and scallops. The main courses - fish of the day Halibut was tasty, risotto was not as flavoursome as expected but the linguine with clams was enjoyable although lacking in a decent amount of clams. Dessert was skipped and instead cocktails suggested by the waiter were enjoyed. There was attentive service throughout and great cocktails. I would recommend the restaurant and will go back to try the early bird.

Early bird deal here is great value, huge portions and very tasty. Try the crab starter in the crispy pasty parcel, amazing!! One complaint thought, just don't expect good service. Booked in plenty of time for the early evening menu but when seated weren't given the menus, brought this to the attention of the waiter who said it was only available until 7.30pm, had to point out to him it was only 6.30! Hmmmm.... Also asked a couple of questions of the waiting staff as to what some of the ingredients in the dishes were but they hadn't a clue. Very disappointing service. Would definately return for the food though.

Spectacular!! The dinning room is lovley with a nice terrace, down stairs looks cosy and good for groups, staff are happy and charming, food is superior quality and the presentation is excellent, I had the house salad to start which was generous and tasty followed by the most tender, melt in the mouth beef madallions. The lemon tart with sorbet left me wanting to return again, soon. This is a good place for a romantic meal or a special occasion

Was very impressed with the food quality the place lacked atmosphere as we went early on a Saturday around 6.30 and were the first customers to arrive. Nonetheless this was probably the best early bird I had in years, will be back!

I ate here for the early bird with a friend. We really enjoyed the menu, having the salad and ravioli to start, and the fish pie and risotto to follow. These were really good - the ravioli was a big hit with a great lemon sauce to cut through the cheese. The portions are very generous. If I had a criticism, it would be that the waiters are not knowledgable enough about the menu - we asked what some of the ingredients were, and the waitress didn't know.. Overall, definitely recommend it!

We really enjoyed lunch here on the terrace (which has a retractable cover so you can sit out on the many days when you're not sure if it'll rain or not!). There were only two other tables occupied, which was a shame. We thought the lunch menu was good value and the choice (except for desserts) was very broad. The crab starter was delicious, the risotto main would have benefitted from being cooked a little longer. The raspberry shortbread dessert looked delicious but was a little hard and dry - it would have benefitted from some creme anglaise or more cream. All in all, a lovely spot for summer lunch

I booked lunch here on the basis of menupages.ie ratings and believe I've been seriously misled. The food was fair (without being impressive), and the service was hopeless. You don't pay €50-100 per head for lunch to have to stand up and go looking for people to attend to your table, to have to ask for everything at least twice before they bother bringing it and to have to deal with smart waiters who think they're being funny but are really just rude. I have to say I'm suspicious about the reviews on this one, which is very disappointing as far as the reliability of menupages generally is concerned.

Visited here on friday night. The weather was amazing so we were lucky enough to be seated on the terrace, which completely embellished the whole experience. Choices on the Early Bird menu were limited enough but all of the food served was really really good. Service was excellent if not a little overbearing. Would return and definitely recommend.

We went here just after a show, got in very late but they still gave us a table. They were very pleasant! I accidentally bumped into a waiter and instead of him saying 'Excuse me' and rushing on, which is what I expected, he greeted me with a 'Hi! How are you tonight?!' I got the John Dory, my sister in law got the sea food risotto, they were delicious! They helped us pick out a wine and a virgin cocktail for our dinners. Such a nice place, I will definitely go back again and again!

Had an amazing time here with two friends on a sunny Saturday afternoon... The early bird menu was fantastic. We went for the crab in filo pastry, and angel hair pasta, with cherry tomato sauce and black olives...All washed down with some interesting and innovative cocktails (the "Tiramisu" was heavenly). Will definitely be back next time the sun makes an appearance!

Unicorn's little brother has a surprisingly selected menu. There is not much choice, but the one you get is excellent. Food is cooked properly, posh but not pretentious, and the service is very good too, (although I'm not used to the waitress pouring my wine all the time, but I guess this is what people like in restaurants like this). The bill was 180€ for three people, three courses plus wine. Overall a good value.

Absolutely top class. Had the salsiccia starter, based on Italian sausage. It was one of the most exciting taste experiences I have ever experienced. We were also treated to a complimentary trout and roast almonds ahead of our starters which was also fantastic. My main was a fillet steak, cooked to perfection (medium rare as ordered). Had a New Zealand sauvignon blanc to start and switched to a Chianti with the main - both excellent. A little on the pricey side in the current economic climate, but well worth it. The service was superb and friendly. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommended.

Wow! This restaurant is the best I've been to in a long, long time. The food was sublime, the service very attentive, the setting just perfect (warm and very modern) - and everything came with a smile. We all enjoyed what we had and the evening immensely and we'll be going back again soon!

Very good! I went with 3 friends on saturday night and we were brought immediately at the bar while our table was set up. We had 4 prosecco as usual, and in 5 minutes we were upstairs at the table. The all service i have to say was excellent and most important the food was good like mamma make back at home. Was my first time at Il Segreto but we promised to ourselves to go back real soon as we really enjoyed the all night. I had the salsiccia with polenta fritta with gorgonzola cream and it was delicious, i raccomend it to everyone. The main course was pappardelle with polpette and was good but i was aspecting something a bit different. We had 2 bottle of Dolcetto D'Alba and was gorgeous. After the meal we went outside on the on the second floor to finish our drinks and coffees and luckly the night was mild so we really enjoyed our time outthere. We were NOT pushed to leave at any time in fact we were nealry the last people to leave the premisis. Very good place to hang out for good food and enjoy few glasses of good wine without feeling rushed to leave.

So impressed! Went here last night with my finacee. Were greated at the door & as our table wasn't quite ready we were shown to the bar. Very small bar it was very busy so we did stand awkwardly for a few minutes & then took a while to get served but once we did the mojitas were worth the wait:) Our table was really nice & intimate & the service was genuine & authentic. The menu offered a great variety. My fiancee had the rare parma ha & mozerella cheese which was stunning. I had scallops which were really different than I'd ever had before. We both had the lobster which was gorgeous & the waiter reccomended a great wine. The cocktails were fab & its the only place I've sen an old fashioned on the menu. Lovely! Oh just another mention- great olive oil. All in all fab, creative, quality food:)

Il segreto won't definitely be a secret for a long time! Lovely decor, simple yet warm. We started off at the bar waiting for the rest of the party: yesterday's special was strawberry and martini cocktail, excellent. As this was a business dinner, we had a set menu but what a feast nonetheless! Ravioli di magro filled with artichokes to begin with were very good but the main course threw me off my feet: spatchcocked poussin with caponata and polenta fritta. I don't know what they did to that bird but it was sheer magic. The pear in sambuca was a perfect way to finish it off. And it was great value for money too. All in all, I'll be back soon.

Was in here last week to check this new place out, walked in and the place is amazing, you walk in through a little courtyard that separates the restaurant from the main road and as you walk in you totally loose yourself from the outside. The decor is stunning and as soon as you walk in you can't help but be wowed. The atmosphere when we went was terrific and the cool and funky cocktails bar is the place to start off.You go you have to try a selection because they were all so good, and the food that followed was stunning as well. Definitely a great new addition to the Dublin restaurant scene. If i have to say one thing its definitely go check this place out, you'll be heading back there again and again, i definitely will be.

Simply Superb! Had lunch for two last week in this new restaurant of Giorgio Casari, the man behind the Unicorn and was very impressed. Two courses for €24 with a good range of choice but not swamped with dozens of unnecessary options. Went for the house salad to start. I'm not usually a salad kinda guy but this was outstanding, with fresh leaves, baby tomatoes, excellent dressing and thin slivers of medium rare exquisitely tasty beef made it one of the best I've had in years. I usually steer clear of them as they're often so unsatisfying but not this. Main course was a very comforting roast of the day, that day was pork on a bed of creamy mash. Both courses washed down with the very pleasant Unicorn Pinot Grigio. The service was spot on, there when you needed them, not when you didn't and very effective and knowledgeable with a welcoming and warm demeanor. The setting was very natural, not too contrived as some places, emphasis on comfort and ease, with the art work being initially Italianate and then diverse with a twist. Like the food, you think you're getting standard enough fare and then it turns out to be something distinctly that bit more than that. Excellent food fairly priced, in a cosy and relaxing atmosphere. Well worth repeat visits!

I had heard great things about this new place and I was not dissappointed!! The cocktails are a must and ensured the perfect start to the night. The food was amazing, I had the John Dory and my husband had the Beef, and we both agreed it was the best meal out we had had in months!! The atmosphere and ever attentive staff just add to the ambience - I highly recommend this place!

Visited with a bunch of friends a few weeks ago and we didnt want to leave the place! The food was delicious and the staff were so attentive! This restaurant provides a great experience attracting top clientele like only the only few restaurants in Dublin can. No surprise its a brother of the Unicorn. Some dishes appeared a little overpriced in current conditions but my John Dory was well worth the money. Make an occasion of it and go for the cocktails, great martini !

this restaurant is a gem and definately shouldn't be kept 'a secret'! everything from the decor, which creates a wonderful relaxed atmosphere to the food which is superb makes il segreto a great dining experience whether its a girls night out or a family dinner. the cocktails are incredible and there is definately one for everybody and at 10 euro a pop they are well worth it. the antipasto menu is very resonably priced and if you fancy treating yourself there are a plether of delights on the dinner menu! the service is brilliant and you literally feel like the only customer in the restaurant at times. all i can say is roll on the summer and the outdoor terrace dining in this gorgeous spot!!

Had a meal here a couple of weeks ago. The place looks great - very nice decor and well designed. Had cocktails at the bar which were great but very expensive. Went upstairs for dinner - the food was disappointing - not bad but not good enough for the prices, I had fish which was quite tasteless and a little overcooked, dessert was poor. I thought it was very bad value for money and I wouldn't go back

I went to Il Segreto with the girls for a long lazy lunch a few weeks ago. We had an absolute ball. We ate from the brunch menu, which was very reasonable and the food was really tasty. The 'bubble and squeak' went down particularly well. We had good wine and tried a variety of the fabulous cocktails! The surroundings are amazing, we were sitting at one of the round tables downstairs, and the staff were extremely attentive. I would thoroughly recommend Il Segreto. I'm looking forward to going back to sample some of the delights on the antipasto evening menu.

I went for a brunch with a group of pals and what a smashing day Il Segreto made it for us. The staff were very welcoming and friendly and service can only be described as top notch. I can recommend the Fish Bubble & Squeak from the Brunch menu which was reasonably priced and an excellent option for a brunch. Overall, an excellent way to wind away a sunday afternoon in Dublin City Centre. I'll definitelly be going back - particularly looking forward to the terraces on some sunny afternoon.

From the moment the door was opened to me til I left I thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. The place was buzzing from the time I walked in. The cocktails were really strong too which is a plus as they are so reasonably priced. I thought the waiters were friendly and professional and having the guy at the door is a nice touch. Can't reccommend the place highly enough everything even down to the decor is superb. Going again very soon!!!

I ate here on a friday night not knowing what to expect- and was so pleasantly surpirsed. The staff could not do enough for us and the food (and cocktails) were delicious. The prices were very reasonable for what can only be described as haute cuisine, the John Dory was incredible and the cocktails were very reasonable and went down all too easily!! I cant recommend this new jem highly enough and will definitely be back.
