wow, both me and my friend were blown away by the quality of food here. Starting off with a free portion of lovely fresh bread and butter. As a starter I had the seared salmon, a huge piece of the most melt in the mouth piece of fish I ever had. HUGE portion! Then we both had the pork belly as recommended by a friend of mine. My friends cut had a lot of meat on it, unfortunately my portion was more fat than meat. Nonetheless, it tasted great and the barley (?) broth it was served with was seasoned perfectly. We were both stuffed after this, however since we have the Hi-life card (2 for 1) we decided to order dessert. glad that I did, the most divine creme brulee I've had in a long time. and yet another enormous portion. I could have easily scoffed down another one of those though. Service was friendly and efficient. It's quite an expensive restaurant though, and since I would love to go back I will probably opt for the pre-theatre (which is only 20 euro)

I had lunch at Hugos last Thursday (26th April, 2012) with work colleagues and I have to say even though it has been recommended by a few friends, I was a little bit disappointed. The atmosphere is great, the service is excellent and food is good value for money and is tasty and nicely presented, but I was expecting to have some real wow moment, but i didn't. For starters I had pate and for the main - roasted lamb. As I said, it was nice and enjoyable, but something was missing.

We had a great night here. Just 2 of us, perfect for a romantic meal. Have a varied selection of dishes available with helpful and informative staff. The dishes were very tasty and very well presented. All in all..would recommend!

Ate at Hugos recently, mid week early evening. We were a party of three and placed at what was quiet obviously a window table for two! It was uncomfortable, squashed and left us with no room for water glasses even! The waiter was pleasant if a little absent minded forgetting some of our requests and needed to be reminded. the food was OK, nothing spectacular. Worst of all was the Maitre d' having his evening meal plus dessert at the front desk! Sneaking mouthfuls of food from under the desk was unprofessional to say the least! And finally the owner/manager took what seemed like a personal phonecall at the front desk and spoke so loudly we had to stop our conversation till she finished!! I wont be rushing back...sorry, very disappointed

I went here for a Sunday brunch. I checked the menu online but arriving the menu was different, it would be great if the current menu could be on the website. I had enchiladas with chorizo. Fist time around the enchiladas I got were a bit too toasted and had burned sides so I asked for another one. My friend had the enchiladas as well and the sauces were missing on his one, we got some extra on the sides. So eventually the meal was tasty. I had some Crème brûlée for desert and that was really good too. On the website it said that there would be live music but we didn’t have any... The atmosphere is really lovely though, it is super cosy here. You can sit and relax for ages and it is good value.

I was in Hugo's for a work dinner. I had been so looking forward to it as the restaurant looks so beautiful and quaint from the outside. The interiors didn't disappoint either, with warm colours and a lovely welcoming atmosphere. The staff were friendly and the service good. Now for the food. What a disappointment. I ordered the grilled artichoke, fig and broad bean salad with truffle oil and it was far from impressive. It consisted of a badly presented large pile of bitter tasteless lettuce, 2 very small halves of artichoke heart, 3 tiny bits of fresh fig and a bit of cut up dried fig thrown in (why? Seemed almost an afterthought, as though the fresh figs had run out). The broad beans were there but few and far between and the truffle oil, not even a hint of it (or any sort of flavour or dressing for that matter). I thought possibly this was just an unlucky order on my part so looked forward to my main of pork belly. Wow. What a rubbery, fatty mess. I was pretty hungry by this stage so choked most of it down. It was on a bed of some sort of barley/lentil watery stuff which was seasoned but still not anything special. Not good food. Not at all. By now I'd learned my lesson and skipped dessert altogether. What a shame. My high hopes were dashed. Luckily the smiling wait staff, good atmosphere (and wine) and super company made for a pleasant enough evening. I won't go there again though.

we visited Hugos to avail of the brunch menu.I booked a window seat and the atmosphere was lovely. The restaurant was fairly quiet to start with and got busier as time went on.The choice of starters were not great so we went for main course and desert.I ordered the steak and chips which was nice but nothing special. The steak wasnt paticurly big and it just came with chips and a salad and pepper sauce. Some veg or onion rings would have been good.We also got the cod on colcannon which again was just nice. The dessert was good but again nothing special and the service when we got it was good but we had to call them over a few times. Was a bit dsapointed with the visit this time it was a nice meal but nothing very special at all

I have been to Hugo's on many occasions previously and really like the place, this time we went for my friends birthday the starters were lovely but I had a curry for the main course which as completely bland, tasteless actually, she had streak which was a little better but nothing special! It was the early bird so maybe thats the reason, will go back again as I like the place but not for a while .

I visited Hugo’s just before Christmas and thought it was really charming- we got a nice window seat and a view of the restaurant which was nicely decorated. There was a number of menu’s to choose from which was great but one little disappointment was that the brunch menu which we viewed online and drew us there in the first place was not the same- the website should really be updated with latest menus or state that they are a sample and change. The food was delicious we had smoked haddock rillettes and a game terrine for starter and steak for main which was juicy and tender. The staff were helpful and very friendly and the overall experience was great- looking forward to returning.

I've been to Hugos many times over the last few years but I'll not be going back unless something changes. Last summer I would have give Hugos 5 out of 5 but since then the menu, food and service has all gone downhill. They used to do lovely double dip chips but now to save time they just make very average chips to go with a very average steak. My girlfriend asked the manager why didn't they do the double dip chips anymore and was told by her "that's the way the chef likes them". There was also water leaking from a broken air conditioning unit dripping on to the floor beside us. We were in there again last Friday. I ordered the steak which came out cold and I had to wait 10 minutes for them to sort it out. By this time my girlfriend had almost finished her meal. We also order a side dish of chips that never arrived. We ordered a cappuccino and pepper mint tea but got 2 cappuccino's instead. If you compare Hugos now to what it was like a year ago the difference is night and day, it was a very good restaurant with a very good menu serving very good food. Now it's just a very average restaurant with a very average menu serving very average food.

My wife, daughter and I visted Hugo's on a Friday evening at 5pm. It was our first visit. It was very quiet when we arrived but began to get busier from about 5.30pm. The ambience, decor, etc is very nice, and the waiting staff were attentive. We ordered from the pre-theatre menu which unfortunately was limited for choice. The girls had soup as a starter which they enjoyed, while I went for the seafood chowder. This was disappointing - nice flavour but not much fish and too much potato. For main course, my daughter had a Thai Chicken Curry which she enjoyed and couldn't finish. My wife chose cod on a bed of colcannon and I went for the game and red wine pie. The fish was ok, while the game pie had a nice flavour but was very short on meat content. The amount of food on both plates was small for a main course. Overall, we were disappointed. While the pricing quoted on the pre-theatre menu suggests good value, there are better menu selections available elsewhere at the same price which is a pity as the restaurant's atmosphere/decor/ambience and professional staff are noteworthy.

Average. Service was very poor. Had to call the waiter's attention three times. Food was nothing spectacular. I had the brie / onion marmalade tartine. The brie was thin on the ground. It was just the white mouldy bit. No cheese. Very disappointing.

I wrote about this restaurant some time back when it first opened so I am due another updated review. Here it is. Revisited recently and WOW! Great food. Great service and the the staff accommodated us last min and were happy to do so - despite our cheek to turn up witout a reservation. The restaurant was throbbing. There was a lot of chatter and laughter. We had two oversized steaks (we both did feel that they were too large, really) and we enjoyed a very nice bottle of house red. Dessert was sumptious and coffee great. They even sent down a shot on the house. It was my guest's birthday. The owner had time to talk to us - despite having a full house - and I am so pleased that all is going well for her. I really think she deserves it. A recession sorts the winners from the losers. She offers interesting food at affordable prices and best of all - a great service. I highly reccommend this restaurant. Moving my review up a notch. Five stars instead of four this year. Well done.

I've been to Hugo's a few times over the past year, with my most recent trip last Saturday evening, as part of a party of 4 for an early bird menu. As always, I left happy. The food was great, with everyone in our group very happy with their meals. The early bird was good value for money, even with a bottle of wine. And the service was excellent despite the restaurant being very busy at the time. Even though we were there for an early bird, we were treated to great service, and there was nobody rushing us out after our meal. When we made our booking, we were informed that there was a later booking for the table so were expecting a rushed service, but we got to enjoy a very relaxed evening, and spent over 2 hours in the restaurant. It's on my shortlist for a return visit!

Myself, my husband and 2 friends had dinner at Hugos last night. I am sorry to say it was one of the worst meals I have had in a long long time. The only good points - the coffee and wine. When we arrived the person who met us at the door didnt even bother to show us to our table, she simply said its downstairs, your friends are there already. She didnt even offer to take our coats. I ordered crab ravioli for my starter but asked if I could have it without brown butter. The waitress didnt have a clue how to deal with my request but eventually said she woud check. She never came back until the other 3 starters arrived at which point she told me she hadnt put the order through for me as the butter was already on it. BUT she hadnt come back to tell me or to ask me to pick something else, crazy. After mine finally arrived it was a very disaapointing blue cheese salad. My husband had the ravioli which I can only describe as disgusting. It was hard at the corners and definitely looked as if it was reheated in a microwave. The rest of the meal was no better, the service was awful and all 4 of us felt the same. None of us will ever return.

I have been to this restuarant numerous times over the last 2 years and always like it here. However this was my first visit in a while the last time I wasn't impressed but they had been very busy. But there appears to be a new guy front of house and he was lovely, very friendly - I think this makes a difference. The waitor also was very efficient. I had the lunch board - which is a nice selection and has plenty for lunch along with a soup which was really nice. My friend had the feta salad and it was tasty breads were provided. For lunch its worth a visit.

Hugo's seems to be going downhill at a rapid rate. They are obviously not paying attention to the reviews, the food is not good. The bread brought out before dinner was stale, the pork starter was just plain awful/weird. Steak was ok. a bit tasteless, a little too fatty for my liking. Someone with me had the cod, small portion, tiny bit of rice, and nothing to write home about. Dessert was gorgeous, best of the evening. The last 2 times I've been in, there have been tiny flies flying around, look like fruit flies to me, very off putting. I won't go back.

HUGOS - I have to say this was probally the worst meal I have ever had out in a restaurant. The goats cheese salad looked like a child had put it together. I love my steak but could not even finsh half of it - tough horrible meat - my brother also had steak the same. My sister had cod which was cold! The waiter kept forgetting about us, and poured the wine so fast it gathered bubbles each time! First time there and will NEVER be back

7 Girls from work went for lunch with great expectations. Starters arrived - I had the crostine which had gone cold. My friend had the pork rillette which wasn't very nice - accompanied by stale bread. I then ordered the chicken skewers. They were tasty enough at first - covered in a nice sauce. Unfortunately the sauce masked the unsatisfactory chicken from view. They were far from apologetic and as I tried to play it down at the table (the girls were irate) they felt that all was ok. When ordering desserts they had run out of some and were slow about bringing them all out together. When the bill came they couldn't understand why I didn't want to pay for my chicken - they did take it off the final bill but were somewhat reluctant to do so. Basically wouldn't recommend to anyone!!

I ate here on Saturday 23rd of April with my partner and another couple for lunch. We were very disappointed with the overall experience. I and my partner had regularly eaten here for dinner previously but the lunch failed to impress. Our starter of pork rillettes came without the bread that was listed on the menu to accompany it and when we asked for this the waitress looked confused. We were then waiting almost 5 minutes. What arrived was stale and had a really weird taste like old garlic bread. The chips that came with the steak were thin, overcooked and the portion was minute, they certainly bore no resemblance to the generous portion of chunky, fresh chips we have received in the past with dinner. My partners duck was tasty enough but came with appetizing looking boiled baby potatoes that looked gray and like they had been sitting somewhere for two long before being served. The steaks the remaining three of us had were all cooked well and tasted good, and the wine as usual was delicious but they were unable to make up for the let down of the rest of the meal. Service was okay but could have been friendlier. Highly disappointed as this restaurant has been a favorite of ours for the last couple of years. Wont be returning anytime soon.

My first visit to Hugo's and I thought it lovely. The decor is definitely of Parisien quality. Service and food were friendly and efficient, the staff really know their profession. I dont frequent the city that often, but would definitely go back here for evening dinner. Very good value on the brunch menu.

We were 2 couples, and one child, and really enjoyed our dinner in Hugos. We had 3 course pre-theatre menu, and everything we had, was delicious. Hugos is bigger, than it first looks, but has enough personnel to take care of the tables. We had very good service, very nice food, and the place was nicely decorated. Easy to recommend, and will most likely go back.

Brought clients here for lunch. It's really nothing special. The service is good, the food is fine (if not a little poorly presented) and the ambiance (on a Tues lunchtime) was as to be expected. I had the roast cod which was tasty enough. The only major issue we had that swayed my indifference was all the little fruit flies around our table. There's nothing worse than swatting insects while you eat indoors in Ireland - instant alarm bells!

I was lured in here for brunch last sunday with the promise of a lazy brunch and some atmospheric jazz however am sad to say that I came away extremely disappointed. I ordered the eggs benedict and was shocked to find that they had actually grilled the bread, poached egg and hollandaise which meant the egg was overcooked and the hollandaise baked on - NOT GOOD!! After sending the dish back, I was presented with a semi-ok eggs benedict although overall lacking in flavour and the bacon was as dry as leather. Overall very very disappointing and I am sad to say that I won't be coming back here unless they seriously improve their standards!!

I enjoyed eating here more than my partner did. He had the steak and found it well done rather than medium. I had the duck which was very good. The cheese board was fab! The high chairs take a bit of getting used to but I thought it was nice to try something different. I would return for the good vibe, the friendly staff and that cheeseboard.

2 of us ate here early on a Saturday evening using the Hi-Life diners card which gives 2 for 1 on each course. This was luck as the restaurant is quite expensive. It is a small restaurant so the atmosphere was good even though we were there early in the evening. We sat upstairs near the window. Downstairs is quite dark and some could find it claustrophobic. For starters we had GAME SAUSAGE SERVED ON SPICED PICKLED CABBAGE WITH A PORT AND VANILLA SAUCE, HAY POTATOES and ARDSALLAGH GOATSCHEESE, LEEK & WALNUT TERRINE, PEAR AND SOY COULIS. Both were very good. The texture of the game sausage was quite smooth so don't be put off if you don't like 'meaty' sausages. The cabbage was fab. The goats cheese terrine was quite a large portion and the flavours were interesting. The pear coulis went beautifully with the cheese. For mains we had ROASTED FREE RANGE GUINEA FOWL, SPICED RED CABBAGE AND FRIED POTATOES, MUSTARD CRÈME FRAICHE and GRILLED ORGANIC SALMON SERVED WITH BABY POTATOES AND SAUTEED BABY SPINACH, CHERRY TOMATOES, CARROT AND ORANGE COULIS. Again, the food was good. But - the guinea fowl was just a small supreme so not the best dish if you are very hungry. Desserts were VANILLA CRÈME BRÛLEÉ SERVED WITH BISCUITS and HOMEMADE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE SERVED WITH CREAM (GLUTEN FREE. The Creme Brulee was the nicest I have ever had and the brownie had a rich chocolate flavour. I would go back but only on a special offer as it is quite expensive

I went to Hugo's with a group of friends but I had the feeling that it would be a perfect place for a quiet romantic meal with your loved one. We opted for the early bird which was great value, I had the calamari to start and the cod for main course and I can't complain about either, they were both well cooked. Other in my group had soup which they enjoyed. We all felt we it was good value for money. The restaurant looks really beautiful and the staff are very professional.

Have had lunch here a few times and it is always a pleasure. I usually go for the lunch board which at 10 euro is v good value and combines a bowl of soup with some tasty meats, cheeses, a little salad, fruit and bread on a lovely wooden board. I have also had the soup and cajun chicken wrap. It can be v busy and the service a little slow but it is always polite. Ate downstairs last time I was there and that was a bit dark and lacking in atmosphere. I am looking forward to trying their dinner menu soon though.

Saturday lunch times are enjoyable when you have places like this, you can chill out for a couple of hours over a bottle of wine and some good food. However my food was slightly cold and the ravioli was a bit heavy and chewy, but not enough to send it back. My partner had the platter and she was slightly concerned about the asian soup with cheese and cold meats, she was right as it just didnt hit the mark, although all was tasty it was just a bit confusing on the flavours. The lunch was very enjoyable and was good value for money. We will be back again soon and has a great atmosphere and service was good

Went here for a work dinner with some foreign clients. Food and presentation was very good and decent value for location. I had the Smoked Haddock brandade to start which was nice. The others raved about the goats cheese terrine and the mussels. The wild boar for main was my favourite of the courses..very tasty!! Others had the steak and seafoog tagliatelle which they said were excellent. Desert was the creme brulee which was absolutely massive but just OK in terms of taste and texture. The biscotti that came with it were v.nice though! Coffee was very. Staff were attentive and relaxed which is always nice. I would defintely go again!

Really enjoyed this restaurant. Initially thought it was a wine bar so didn't take much heed but decided to try it. It was fairly full but the staff were very obliging and found us a table. The plateau de Charcuterie was really nice and served on a wooden board it was well presented. Can't fault this place at all the decor was lovely. My boyfriend really enjoyed it too would highly recommend it.

Met with two girlfriends for a post-shopping / early dinner on a Saturday. Have threatened to go numerous times but had the opportunity and couldn't resist the pre-theatre menu! The atmosphere has a buzz without being too noisy, so we could chat. The service was unobtrousive and efficient and what can I say about the food, except YUM. I'm don't over-analyse but I know what I like and Hugos is IT for me.

I found Hugos to be a bit of a mixed bag; while the food was good and the staff were very friendly there were a couple of rather glaring shortcomings. As we hadn’t made a reservation we were seated in the basement. Normally this would be fine and wouldn’t bother me in the slightest but because it was early in the evening we were the only ones there with everyone else seated upstairs. Subsequently I feel we were rather forgotten about which resulted in some very slow service (especially between the starter and main course – we were left with finished starter plates for far too long). Having said that my starter (Game Sausage) was very nice and the steak was delicious. I’d certainly go back but would book ahead next time.

Nice busy atmosphere; great service - never left waiting; food was really lovely - I had a starter platter of cheeses, breads, olives, etc. which was to die for and certainly plenty for 2 people to share! My only criticism is that the menu was a little "odd" for want of a better word and I had to opt for the aforementioned platter as a starter, as there was nothing else that I could choose (I don't eat hare/rabbit, poached eggs for lunch started didn't appeal, etc.) I would have liked to see a couple of the old reliables on there for starters! Otherwise, lovely meal and would visit again.

I had lunch with a friend in Hugos and it was lovely. I've walked past the place a few times and thought it was a bar so I've never tried it. My friend has been in there before and recommended it. We were seated straight away but had to wait 5mins for a menu. We then had to wait another 10-15mins to order. After that it was smooth sailing. Food came out quickly, big portion and really yummy. For €9.50 I had soup and a tuna and cheese melt on a baguette. My friend had a soup and roasted vegetable sandwich also for €9.50. They both came out with a little salad too. Very nice food and fab price! Will certainly be back!

Highly recommend this restaurant. Went for dinner and for starters we had the soup and the hummous/dips plate both were good and very tasty. We both had steak for the main course which were cooked perfectly and very tender. We shared a cheese plate for dessert. All the food was superb and there is a great selection of wines to choose from and the staff are very friendly and unobtrusive which I love. A little gem of a place.

A group of us girls had a great night at Hugo's. One of us was celebrating a Birthday and they made us feel so welcome and important. The menu is quite exciting especially if you want to try new things. I opted for a fillet steak which was lovely, and all at the table enjoyed their food too. Great spot to begin a night out, with good food and excellent service. Good wine list too. Well done Hugo's.

A group of ten of us had dinner here on Saturday night and over all we were really happy. The service here is brilliant and the staff were so attentive throughout the night. The atmosphere is lovely, with lots of twinkling lights and tables looked really well. There was a set menu to choose from and the selection was good. I know one of the party did have a problem with his steak but the waitress was very swift in organising him a new one which arrived piping hot in no time. Everyone had a wonderful time, and it is definitely a spot that I would return to in the future.

Went to Hugo's for lunch with the girls from work. Most of us had the steak sandwich and I have to say, on my quest to find the perfect steak sandwich, this has been the best so far!! I really liked the atmosphere and the decor. We were sitting near the door but didn't get frostbitten every time the door was opened - the restaurant was nicely heated. Would love to come back here for dinner and to try the wine list! The sambo was a little bit pricey at €13 but I didn't mind so much as it was really good quality meat and the chips were delicious too. Definitely the place to go if you want to treat yourself for lunch and the Christmas dinner menu looks fantastic! Will definitely be coming back here.

I visit Hugo's for Sunday brunch on a regular basis and the food is outstanding. The jazz band on a Sunday afternoon makes for a wonderful atmosphere. The staff are attentive and never rush you along. A perfect place to spend an afternoon with either friends or loved ones eating great food and reading the Sunday papers!

I went there with my partner on a Thursday and I cannot fault the cuisine. The food was superb, I had the duck and my partner had the salmon. Really nice wine selection too. The only flaw is that the tables are really close together so you could hear the conversation from the table next to yours.

Fabulous service...couldn't fault it. Poached eggs starter was average but steak was beautiful. Creme brulee for dessert was gorgeous. Will be back frequently and will be spreading the word about this gem of a restaurant.

I visited Hugos on a Wednesday night with a group of friends. The decor is nice and the wine selection good. I had the goat cheese salad as starter and the vegetarian pasta as main dish. The food was nice but I only got 3 crackers with my goat cheese salad and couldn't get the attention of the waiters in order to get some bread (There was only one staff in the room). I think that Hugos is too some extend overrated. The food is nice but not really inspiring or new.

Hugo’s is conveniently situated on Merrion Row, right next to Stephen’s Green. I had walked passed this (mostly) French restaurant on several occasions, but never took too much notice of it, other than giving it the casual and fairly frequent ‘That-looks-like-a-cosy-place’ kind of attention. It was only on the recommendation of a fellow diner that I decided to give it a go. After being greeted with a sincere smile and a very polite ‘welcome’, we were escorted to our table at the back of the restaurant. The place was only half full when we first arrived but it filled up very quickly. And I’m not surprised; the place oozes tranquility and warmth and has staff who are super-service minded without being ‘in your face’. I devoured a beautiful 8oz Fillet Steak accompanied by a tasty pepper sauce, mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables – it was delicious! And to complement the experience; a glass of Chilean red. If you could judge the rest of the menu by my meal alone, that would be great. I would, however, advise you to stay away from the Lemon Sole as my ‘food partner in crime’ was hugely let down by the dish. Aside from the fish, though, Hugo’s is anything but fishy and is certainly worth a visit.

Went to Hugo's for an early dinner on Saturday. We chose from the early bird menu, which I think is a very good value. I was very impressed by my food - had a mezze platter for a starter and a soth louisiana dish for main - both dishes were very tasty. The service was good, the interior is beautiful, overall it's a very positive experience.

I will start with the positive, the staff were lovely: efficient and accommodating. The restaurant itself was cold which I thought strange for late on a Saturday evening. It was also quite empty but that may have been something to do with the 9'o'clock table I had booked. I had been looking forward to eating at Hugos for a while. I am sorry to say I was extremely disappointed with the food. The mussels were not washed properly in my opinion and at least three of them were covered in grit and sand. I did not finish them, needless to say. My boyfriend had the haddock brandade to start which was effectively presented as a fishcake. It was greasy and tasted as if it was deep fried. I don't think that it how brandade is supposed to be. For the mains we both had the duck confit. The duck itself was dry, and the lentils on which it was served were over-cooked, in my opinion. The salted pork was tasty and tender but it really should have only complimented the duck instead of stealing the show! The honey roasted veg were well-cooked and prepared. A side order of petit pois was also disappointing: brown and buttery. The wine list is very good. Overall I was disappointed but again have to compliment the pleasant and smiley waiting staff.

Visited Hugo's on Saturday night with my husband. Place was busy but very nice cosy atmosphere. We were sitting at one of the high tables on the way in but it was perfectly comfortable. Food was really delicious. I would highly recommend Ardsallagh goat's cheese for starter. Also had cod with chorizo sauce which was very good and tarte tatin to finish - again very good. Service was friendly. I would highly recommend a visit to Hugo's!

Very disappointing dinner for two here lasxt saturday. While the atmosphere is nice, the place was very busy and space was tight, the food was a big let down. Had a platter of meats and humous to start, the meats were very bland and the whole thing came with a large portion of pickled onions, cabbage and cauliflower - far too strong for the meats and humous. Main courses were the Wilds Boar Special which was served with mash and peas forrestier which turns out to be a very large helping of marrowfat peas mixed with yet more pickled onions, most unappetising. The boar was undistinguishable from any piece of grilled pork, the mash was however good and creamy. The other main was the lamb, small lamb pieces skewered with very disappointing dips. The whole lot felt like it had been taken out of packets. Would be reluctant to go back for such poor qulaity at €25 per main course.

Came here with a few girls from work for lunch. The lunch menu is great value although I wouldn't be as impressed by the prices on the evening menu. I had the croque monsieur and chips. It was lovely and crispy on the outside and very cheese on the inside! The service is great, they added chicken to the feta salad at no extra charge. The soup and sandwich deal is great too. A medium bowl of soup with an open sandwich and salad. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff are pleasant if a little rushed. All in all a lovely lunch at a reasonable price.

Had a night out for four here and really loved it. The service was fantastic, particularly the waiter's enthusiasm for the wine he recommended (and the free samples of similar wine to see if we'd like it!). Food was top notch, served promptly and absolutely delicious. Service in general was attentive without being intrusive. When the bill came at the end, it was very reasonable, given that we had two bottles of wine along with the four main courses, a starter platter, and a few desserts... the only negative point was the live jazz; it was excellent music, but a little too loud for the venue. An acoustic quartet would have served the place equally well. All things considered, this is one restaurant we'll definitely be going back to.

I've been here before and enjoyed it immensely. However, the atmosphere and service were great, but the the food this time wasn't the best. I had the king prawn main meal, which was pretty bland to say the least. My partner had the pork, which wasn't presented well, but the flavours were OK. It hasn't put me off, I'm just a little dissapointed.

Came here on a Sunday, and we were delighted to see we were still entitled to the early bird menu. Although there was 4 of us, we opted for the window seat as it was a fab day and we decided it was worth being a little cramped. We could have sat elsewhere! We all opted for the excellent value early bird and we were all very happy with our choices. I went for tuna salad, 2 others went for soup and one went for veg platter. For mains 2 had steak, I had fish and one had veg pasta. All very simple home cooked tastes. Really impressed. Had a couple of coffees and a bottle of wine and it €30 per person with a tip. Will def return!

I came here for lunch with fiancee and father in law. Food was very good value in comparison to the a la carte menu. It was late lunch so the atmosphere was quiet but we really got a sense that it would be a lovely place to eat out in the evening. The decor is nice contemporary glamour. Food was very nice, Platter and chicken salad to start, platter was delicious with a great variety, chicken in the salad was good quality but overall pretty standard. There was a sirlion steak main course which was cooked perfectly and came with lovely thick chips, coq monsieur which was missing mustard and the fried egg but came with lovely chips also, and a tiger prawn main which were very tasty and came with a nice ratatouille.. I would go back again but not in a hurry!

Very disappointed with this place. Had heard great things about it. The seat we were sitting was in front of the kitchen entrance, 5 times out of 10 when anyway walked by me they kept banging into my chair which was very annoying. The wine list was great and the bottle we choose was lovely. The food was a big let down. I got the Queen Scallops, Montbelliard Sausage for starters, it was very greasy and a but sickening. For the main I got the sea bass, it was nice but not anything to rave about. I was so disappointed with the food here we didn't even bother with a dessert. Overall the service was good but this place was too expensive for what you get and I won't be going back and I do not recommend it either.

I really can't find fault with this place. 15 girls went there last weekend. Service was great. Atmosphere was great for us. The other diners may not have enjoyed 15 nattering women!! And the food was divine. We have the pre-theatre menu, options were limited but thats normal. I think every course was ordered by someone and everyone loved thier meal. Would definitely return

Went to Hugos for the first time with 3 other lads. The interior is very cosy and homley and not what I expected. Hugos hareem of all female floor staff were professional and pleasant. The menu was well priced and offered a reasonable selection with a strong emphasis on fish. I had the scallops with sausage and white wine and chhese which were delicious. For mains I had a well presented hake dish but which was very overdone and dry. The small cheese board was fine and a reasonable espresso (served with a large teaspoon and those confounded rocks of sugar which dont dissolve) ended the meal. Overall I feel that Hugos is a good restaurant that with a bit of refinement could be great. When booking make sure to say you dont want to be seated in the basement.

When one of our party of seven asked for a scoop of vanillia ice-cream instead of the set early bird desserts he was told that he could only have ice-cream if he ordered a dessert that came with ice-cream!!!!! I couldn't believe how unaccomedationg some of the staff were considering that there is a shop next door that sells ice-cream by the tub. Also the staks ordered for main course weren't cooked to order and by the time they were re-cooked everyone else had finished their meal. I was so disappointed with the place as I had heard such rave reviews :(

I thought the interior much cosier than the outside suggested. The tables are close but not too close and the food was just right. I had the rillettes of chicken which proved to be a tasty appetizer and followed this with the cajun and pineapple salad. For dessert I had the summer fruit compote with the nutty crumble topping. The servings were just right, the atmosphere was very pleasant and the service efficient and unobtrusive. The food and wine were priced at the right level for what you got. I think it's testimony to the restaurant that the place was pretty busy by 7:30pm. Certainly a place to which I'll return.

Went last night and food and staff both excellent! We had mussels and duck confit for starters and then a sirloin and fillet steak for mains. Practically waddled out of the place. Staff were so sweet and happy for a chat. The only let down was their bathrooms! They were absolutely spotless, so that wasn't the issue but considering the upstairs of the restaurant was well thought out and decorated wonderfully, you'd think their bathrooms would match. It looked just like chipboard stuck up and painted badly. They had music pumped through, which was nice, until you see the big speaker (and wires) hanging from ceiling. Fake flowers too? Hmmm update please, its letting your restaurant down!

Went to Hugos for lunch last week and I cannot reccommend it highly enough. Had walked past the place a few times and assumed it was too expensive but I was wrong. Had soup and an open sandwich for €8.50 and the quality of the food was amazing. Will definitely be going back for lunch or for dinner as they have a very reasonable early bird menu.

Early bird enjoyed by 6 people. Good value food priced competetivly with other good restaurants in the area for Early bird. They make up for it on the wine - There is no "House" wine.So expect to pay dosh for the old vino! They did not charge us for my orange juice and also for the coffee and teas that we had at the end which I thought was jolly decent of them! Full house. Lovely atmosphere and service was friendly and efficient. Will go back 100% sure of that!

We dined here on a Thursday evening and had the pre-theatre menu. The restaurant was full but the staff were very attentive and helpful. The chicken dish was cooked to perfection. The desserts were quite rich but tasty. There was a really nice atmosphere and the live jazz music was a lovely touch in the background. I would definately recommend it.

Eat here last friday for the early bird. Left the restaurant feeling satisfied, thinking, was not the best meal I have ever had but I would definately return to sample other things from the menu. The early bird was good value and I had the vegetarian starter with hummous to start and the prawns piri piri for main, both of which were nice, could have done with more prawns thou. For desert I had the chocolate brownie which was ok, slightly dry, others had the creme brulee, which was very good and a large portion.

Ate here with two friends for the first time recently. I had heard so many good things about this place and was really looking forward to it. Everything that I heard was true. This place is just fab, atmosphere, food and service. My main course did not get off to a good start but I have to say it couldnt have finished any better than it did. I ordered steak, I dont eat steak with any pink or red meat in it, I laboured this point to the waitress and informed her that I would send it back if it wasnt well done (clearly I'm used to not getting my steak cooked the way I like it). My steak came out, and to me it was a medium steak, with plenty of red meat. I informed the waitress of this who was very apologetic and said she would sort it out. I expected that the steak I had cut in two places would be put back on the pan, the chips and green beans kept warm and then brought back out to me. What a pleasant surprise I got when a fresh steak and a whole fresh plate came out to me. To me that shows what a quality place it is. I cant praise them enough for the service. I'm telling anyone and everyone that they should eat here.

I ordered the seafood chowder which was quite nice - a bit lacking in seafood but tasty enough and then a platter. The platter was a mistake, I think it's designed more for people to nibble from when having drinks than as a main. It was pretty disappointing - mediocre hams, a tabouleh salad and some grilled veg. My friend ordered the mussels- i had one and it was kinda shrilvelled and then the pork medallions which were delicious. The wine was flowing and the company was good so it was a pleasant evening all round. I'd definitely go back but would be more careful about what I ordered.

Six of us on a sunday night. The place was quiet but the atmosphere is good anyway. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food is pretty good. The chowder and smoked mackeral starters were especially good as was the venison and duck main courses. The live jazz which is advertised for Sunday nights was piped music. Most of us agreed that we would go again but maybe on a busier night.

Went with a colleague for the early bird menu. The choice was excellent. We really enjoyed the food; the toulouse sausage with duck confit was superb. Really great service and live jazz made it a great night.

My wife & I visited for lunch and we enjoyed our visit. My wife had a cajun chicken sandwich and cabbage & bacon soup which also came with a rustic bread. I had fishermans pie which was delicious topped with a creamy mash. It was about 3pm on a saturday afternoon so the lunch rush was finished and the restaurant was lacking a little in atmosphere. We will return on an evening to see if there is much of a difference. Food was excellent and with a half bottle of wine came to €35.

I was one of a party of five and we were seated downstairs, though this place doesn't seem to be able to cater for more than four as we were quite crammed around a small table, though there didn't seem to any larger one there. For starters, the queen scallops were awful: tough and salty; my confit of duck was only ok, though small and a bit over-cooked; the charcuterie board was uninspiring; and the parmesan and tomato cake was good but then it is just a potato cake so not much can go wrong there! My main of venison was variable. Two rough-looking fillets were served, one of which was tougher than the other, but oddly both were actually succulent in parts. That said it was OK, and the sides were amenable. Two of the diners each got the chicken and pasta dishes which was met with very pleasurable reviews, and indeed it was quite good. The duck was again for one of the mains but was somewhat better than the starter, though the gratin dauphinois was the real winner of that dish. The wines were very disappointing for an establishment that appears to market itself as a wine bistro. A list full of no-names means that it’s quite hit-and-miss, and indeed the Fleurie we chose (the only one on the list) was OK but nothing special. This all said, the service was excellent and friendly, and in fairness can be good value for a very city-centre location if you play your cards right. If you get to sit upstairs (which has more atmosphere) with just one or two other people and order the chicken and pasta, then you could be on to a winner.

Went on a lunchdate with a good friend and both of us ordered the cajun chicken open sandwich. I was imagining a small sandwich but what came out was a huge wooden board full of beautiful chicken, salad and dressing. The bread was extremely fresh and although we were both so full half way through we had to give up, there was simply too much food. Next time I am coming for dinner. If a simple chicken sandwich can be that good, what is dinner going to be like?

Ate here on Thursday night with 2 friends. Fabulous meal - went for the early bird 2 couses for 18.95 which really is excellent value. Advisable to book as several people were turned away while we were there (6pm-8pm). Had the warm mackeral salad to start which was really lovely. We all had the steak - was beautiful - perfectly cooked. Friendly staff - good service. Pleasant ambience & surroundings - plush decoration. Overall a very pleasant experience! Will be back!

Here again for dinner last night..just the 2 of us, and again had a lovely meal. Atmosphere is great and the food delicious.. only small quibble, they seemed understaffed, and we did have to ask for a couple of things several times (Glass of wine/order our dessert/our bill!!) but is very forgiveable as they were very pleasant and the food was worth it!!

Don't go here for brunch. First the waiter pointed to a seat and told us to "sit" quite abruptly. I ordered eggs florentine and was served egss benedict. My partner ordered croque monsiur. Firstly the eggs were completely hard and the muffins wern't even toasted. Menu said softly poached eggs on toasted muffin!!!! My partners croque monsuir wasn't even toasted either and looked like it had been heated in the microwave with white cheddar cheese. It was just terrible and the phrase can't even boil an egg comes to mind. I'm just shocked that a so called good restaurant that gets good reviews can't do simple food correctly. Needless to say we did not eat either and handed them back and left.

We went there for a late dinner on a Saturday. Food was really good, I had the mackerel to start which was lovely and tasty. Had fillet steak and sweet potato mash for mains, was really good and cooked perfectly. The waiting staff could not have been friendlier. All in all a great night and very good value for money

I have been here a few times on a sunday especially for the jazz. They have a great brunch menu with various types of food which caters for everyone. A Full Irish, soups , steaks . Great way to relax on a Sunday lunchtime. I like wine so not a problem for me but if wine is not your tipple, Hugos is not for you.

This was the first time I have been to Hugos and was expecting good things as it had been recommended. First impressions don't let it down, and the staff were excellect. the starters we had were the Goats chesse which was really good and flavoursome, and the queen scallops which were a bit overcook and just covered in greens. the main courses we had the stake which was OK, and the prok. The pork was a bit bland, and the garnish was way overcooked. For desert I had the sticky toffee pudding, if its on the menu I have to have it, however what arried was more like christmas pudding, not great at all, even more disapointing was the lack of reaction from the waiter after informing him. Overall the experience was good, but let down by the food which was not up to the standard I would have expected.

We had a night out to celebrate a friend's bday. And THUMBS up for opening on 28dec. Well done, for that I'd say the atmosphere was good for a small restaurant as this. We were seated in the lower level, which had a very low ceiling, yet, it gave a nice warm christmasy feel. So that was fantastic. It is a french restaurant, unfortunately, the menu looked more western. Thankfully, it was saved with a few french choices. The duck confit was not strong in flavor as I wished it to be, again, my standards could be too unforgiving given that french food is my favourite eat out cuisine =) The mains were as mentioned, western in flavor and not creamy/ rich as would the french have prepared. It's again, a nice experience, and I am not going to report anythg untoward for a restaurant that operated on 28dec09. It's a decent and reasonable place to dine. Enjoy!

This was my second visit to Hugo's. The red wine recommended by the waiter was fabulous. There were 5 people in our group for dinner. We opted for the early bird menu. All plates were cleared and everyone enjoyed the evening. There isn't much atmosphere in this restaurant but would definitely eat here again.

We went for Sunday brunch. There was live jazz, which was pretty mellow but we were sitting near the musicians so it was a bit hard to chat above the music. I had the 7oz sirloin for €17, which was okay but not great. You could have a 10oz for €25 euro, but is it worth €8 extra for just an extra 3oz of meat - I don't think so! Silly pricing strategy. I know some restaurants use a simple multiple of the price of the raw ingredients to price their dishes, but this is a crude system where those who have a more expensive dish (e.g. steak) end up paying much more towards the overheads of the business (staff, heat, etc.) than those having less expensive dishes, which hardly seems fair since they are both sitting at the same table, enjoying the same service, etc.

Close by to work so visited more than often for lunch - where the soup and sandwich is a good deal. Some menu items are presented with a simple plainness, some with a little hysteria of the garnish. True flavours throughout. Always met with a real welcome at the door, sometimes the service is a little flaky. Still, there hasn't been much turnover in the two years I've been dining there (round 12-15 visits).

I brought a friend here for dinner on Sunday night and we had a beautiful evening. We were given a little table beside the window, where we could watch the world go by. A shared starter of mussels was good, and a nice size portion for two people. It came with fresh bread and good olive oil for dipping. We both opted for the duck maincourse. I asked for mine to be cooked rare, and it was lovely and pink and tender. However, the crushed potato was mashed together with the black pudding, which didn't taste fantastic, and the accompanying mushrooms, while tasty in their own right, did nothing to complement the rest of the dish. Wine was served in beautiful big glasses, and the service was understated but attentive. We stayed at our little table for over three hours and were never put under any pressure to move on. Great spot for a special occasion.

Four of us went for an early bird birthday meal. We enjoyed the evening, in a very comfortable restaurant. The food was reasonable good. A smoked mackerel salad disappointed. It was a fairly plan salad with half a dead fish on top. There’s nothing wrong with mackerel, especially when you’ve ordered it, but I was expecting a bit more than a lump of it plonked on top of an ordinary salad. I followed with a steak, hand-cut ships and greens. The steak was great. The chips looked nice, but they had that slightly metallic taste that potato takes on when it’s been reheated. Two of us chose this dish and neither finished the chips. Deserts were good. I wouldn’t have said anything about the chips, but when asked if everything had been good, the birthday girl explained her disappointment. The waiter rather curtly said that the chips are cooked to order and aren’t reheated. When it was suggested that perhaps they were par cooked and allowed to cool, and heated in oil to order he insisted that they were not reheated. Birthday girl then popped down to the loo and spied a big bowl of cold par cooked spuds on a counter top in the kitchen on the way. Part cooking food and keeping it warm or reheating it is standard in a commercial kitchen, so my difficulty is not with that (although if done properly it shouldn’t taste stale), by difficulty is that the waiter immediately dismissed the feedback. If would have been nice if he had at least passed in on to the kitchen and a dismissal could have been channelled from the kitchen. Notwithstanding the not-very-well-handled feedback, it was an enjoyable meal and was quite good value.

Had lunch here and opted for the soup/sandwich combination at 9.50. Excellent value and quality. Home made Mushroom soup with some black treacle type bread accompanied by 3 pieces of smoked salmon on above bread with a little dressing of leaves etc. Even though a Friday lunchtime, service was excellent and I must say I was very impressed with the staff/atmosphere/decor. Will definitely be back.

Had a nice lunch with my family service was very good in a nice setting. It was quiet on the day so hard to guage the atmosphere. The only thing I'd fault with it is the variety on the lunch menu it could be a bit better-but even at this the quality of the food we got was excellent. The evening menu looks very impressive. Would go back for that based on other reviews.

We had the Earlie Bird menu, and we were not disapointed. The service was excellent, and the decor is stunning. My only complaint was that the table was a bit too small to fit everything! It's great value, and I will definately go back again.

We went here on Friday 27th November and overall could not fault the place. The atmosphere was lovely and cosy, the food was fabulous and the service was excellent. My only problem was that they did not show us the early bird menu, despite us arriving at 6.30. However, it was a lovely evening and we would definitely go again and recommend it.

I always wanted to try this place as I heard great reviews. I deciede to go for a pre theatre one evening with friends. For started I had the calamari and for main i had the steak. While the food, atmosphere and service was great, I felt a little dissapointed as it wasn't as amazing and people have it hyped up to be. Saying that I would probably go back again.

Went here on Sunday last with my mother who was visiting for a few days. Overall it was a lovely experience. I had been looking forward to going here after reading the reviews and this was my first chance to do so and I wasn't disappointed. To start my mum had the scallops and I had the plateau de charcuterie. Our only complaint was that the scallops were very small so half a point was taken off for this. However the sauce that accompanied them was lovely and mine was very tasty and nicely presented. For mains then I had the pork belly with prawns and scallops and my mum had duck. Both of which were really fantastic. I would especially recommend the pork belly as the lentils that accompanied them were in an amazing sauce and the scallops were big and perfectly cooked. The staff were also really lovely and added to the whole atmosphere of the place. A very large group of 25 came in as we were finishing our meal and it did take us about ten minutes to get our bill but generally they were very attentive without being fussy. Overall I would definitely recommend Hugo's and I will be returning as soon as the opportunity comes up.

Had the pre theatre menu on Friday last with 2 very good friends. Our two friends had a starter each of the game Terrine and the Calamari which they both enjoyed. For mains we had two steaks and two baked fillet of cod which were very tasty. For desserts we had the crème bruleé and the apple & berry crumble which were both delicious. Sevice was very good and the only issue was that I had booked through Menu pages but they could not find the booking but without hesitation were were seated at a table towards the rere of the restaurant.Overall a very enjoyable meal.

I went to Hugo's for my birthday bash and had 10 of my closest friends as well as my visiting mother....I cannot give Hugo's enough praise for such a wonderful dining experience. The restaurant itself is elegant, very spacious, and beautifully decorated. The staff were wonderfully attentive. From the moment my party and I walked in, we were treated exceptionally well, something that a lot of Dublin restaurants have been lacking since I moved back nearly 4 years ago. The food was of an excellent standard; I had a wonderful meal and my friends cannot stop raving how wonderful their salmon, eggs, chicken, scallops, etc were. I had the lamb dish and I thought it was wonderful. Hugo's has been recommended to me by a couple of friends, and I would like to keep up recommendations myself and I look forward to trying the Sunday brunch

We came here for a pre-theater dinner. We were seated in an empty restaurant however within 15 minutes the place went from empty to completely full! The early bird menu was excellent value at €18 for 2 courses and €24 for 3 courses. There was even a special on wine, for the week. The atmosphere was very pleasant and we were sorry to have to leave before a jazz band started to play. The staff was more than pleasant and very accommodating. There were good options on the early bird menu although my starter of game terrine was a little dry and over-chilled. The Thai yellow curry cod with broccoli and rice was nice. The desserts were delicious and were big portions. We could have settled in comfortably for the evening. The place seemed to be popular with groups of people from local offices and large groups were accommodated well. I would recommend this for a relaxing evening.

Cosy and relaxed,2 of us really enjoyed dinning here Sunday evening, I had the Prawn, escalop and pork for main, which is an odd combination but full of flavour,I stole a taste of my friends tender lamb rump,we had a side of decent thick cut chips and shared a lemon tart desert, which in my opinion was a little over priced but tasty.Coffees were good too, our waiter was friendly and efficient but not over bearing, we both agreed to go back again, this place would be lovley for a romantic meal !!

Went there for my hen do. It was a busy Saturday evening. I have booked the table for 1915 for 10 people and was told that we only have the table until 2115. The restaurant has two seatings. Normally I don't like being rushed through my dinner and I totally disagree with the idea of 2 seatings. But I go with this one as I heard that the food is exceptional. We were 15 minutes late and were being rushed to our table. We were constantly being reminded to vacate the table by 2115. The food though was exceptional. Will I go back there again? I am not sure as the stress of having to scoffing down my dinner might have just outweighed everything else.

This is a relly lovely atmospheric restaurant with friendly staff and excellent food. Unfortunately we had to ask for the set menu as were just given the al a carte when we sat down first. That said most things were the same on both menus, just much better value on the set menu. Wouldn't normally opt for steak, especially from set menu but this was a really good cut cooked to perfection.

Went for a family meal here last Sunday. The nicely (if quite dimly) decorated restaurant was full so this was a nice atmosphere although no live jazz. We didn't order from the early bird although it did offer a good choice, still there was good value for money in going a la carte. Highlights included the fresh pasta starter, everyone was pleased with their main courses (alot of steaks) and all the deserts were scrumptious except the cheese board a little boring. Wine menu also good in terms of price range. Service was great, Would definitely recommend this place.

A girlfriend suggested Hugos, she had heard good reviews about it. We went for the Early Bird, €20 for 2 courses or €25 for 3 courses. There was a great atmosphere when we arrived and it was very busy. We had a great night, the food was delicious, the wine list was good value and we had great service. To top it off there was some live Jazz which really complemented the evening.

I don’t think I ever entered such a welcoming restaurant, it is like it envelopes you once you walk in. The good first impressions lasted all night. Food was superb, everyone had starters and mains, unfortunately we didn’t have enough room for dessert. Starters were goats cheese, mussels, scallops, calamari salad and the duck starter. Which is a number of slices of duck assembled around a lovely dressed green leaf salad. Mains of steak, cod, lamb and salmon could not be faulted. I liked my first visit so much that I have already booked for my second visit!

Went here last weekend for the pre-theatre menu. The restaurant itself has a lovely atmosphere and the staff are friendly and attentive. However, I was not blown away by the food. The duck I had for main course was well cooked but pretty tasteless and the top of my creme brulee was burnt in parts so was very bitter. Saying that my boyfriend was very happy with his meal so I might give it another chance.

A group of six of us called here was an excellent night out. Food was well presented and cooked, great selection from the menu for all. Service was good. The Atmosphere was very good with a band in place with great music and instrumental, was more like a caberet. Would highly recomend a visit here. Very good wine list.

I recently went to Hugo's for Sunday brunch with my mam & sister. I must say I was hugely impressed by it.. we were asked would we like the window seat which was really private and cosy and the jazz band were playing away in the background which created a really nice atmosphere. The staff were very attentive and friendly throughout the meal. I ordered the steak and chips which was a little more expensive than the other dishes available on the brunch menu but it was worth it! It was absolutely delicious. Both my mother and sister were delighted with their choices of eggs benedict and soup with freshly baked bread also. We were pleasantly surprised by the bill and rolled out of the restaurant full & happy! I will certainly be back again.

Food was of a quite high standard as was presentation of food, if a little pricey. Extensive range of wines by the glass, while staff were most attentive. On the day, their coffee machine was broken, which was the only fault we could find.

Visited Hugos yesterday for lunch with a friend and had a surprisingly nice experience. I chose the soup/cajun chicken sandwich combo which is on their new menu. It was absolutely fabulous, french onion soup cooked properly, the chicken had a lovely flavour and presentation was great. The bread for the sandwich was a little stale but the soup solved the problem! My friend ordered the veg stir fry which was delighful if a little small. This was a marked improvement of my last few visits, one of which was over a year ago - service has greatly improved since then and you can now go for lunch and have your tea/coffee and be out within an hour which is the reason we stopped going in the past, and the most recent visit was a few weeks ago and again went for the soup/sandwich combo - salmon was great but the soup was disastorous so I was pleasantly surprised yesterday. My only critique of yesterdays lunch was the fact that we were given the bill without asking for it and were asked 3 or 4 times in the space of 10 minutes after that if we had paid. The restaurant was half empty as we were there for an early lunch and we really felt rushed out of the place, shame as it put a sour taste in our mouths after a lovely lunch. Great food though and I will go back.

I had brunch here on Sunday and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had a vegetarian breakfast burrito, which was very nice, though served with chips which kind of brought it down a bit - I would've prefered guacamole or something like that, keeping with the mexican theme... Also, the veggie burrito was the same price as the meat one, which made it v over priced! However, the food was tasty! Service is a bit on the slow side, think they're very under staffed at weekends. There's live jazz band playing on Sundays which was really nice. The singer had a lovely voice, I could've listened to her all day! I like the decor as well, think it's a very cosy place.

Overrated!! I'd heard so much about this place over the years that I was looking forward to checking it out. I was disappointed!! The service was slow and sloppy. One of our dishes was wrong as well but they did rectify that quickly. The food was ok - the starters were the nicest course of the meal. I won't be rushing back.

We ate here last night...went for the early bird which is good value with an option for 2 or 3 courses, a choice of four starters, four mains and four deserts. The atmosphere is good in a smart looking restaurant. Service was good, order being taken quickly, good choice of wine. Bread was brought with a nice peppery olive oil. A slight hiccup occurred when my partner's steak arrived too done and with the wrong sauce but was handled well except I was about to be left with my dinner until I said to the waiter that I would wait until a new steak was brought out. When the dinners reappeared my pasta was overdone which leads me to believe it was probably left under the lamps. Meanwhile another waiter forgot a glass of wine. Apologies were given for the delay and the waiter apologised again when we were leaving. Would I go back......yes, would I recommend it....yes also but with reservations.

I ate here recently and was really looking forward to it as I had checked it out on line and loved the choice on the menu. The decor is very inviting and very cosy. However I was really disappointed with both the service and food. I had the cod wrapped in parma ham for main course on a bed of purreed peas with homemade croquettes. The fish was so dried up it was brown in colour and the ham equally as bad. The pea puree was like a brown coloured soup and then gluey croquettes, not a good combination! As I was on a date I didn't want to complain but I signed up here just to let you all know that this place is so over priced and very poor quality food. Will not be returning and would not recommend it.

Ate in Hugo’s last night. On entering the restaurant appears very busy & crowded, where is that recession gone?? They have certainly cramped in as many tables/seating as possible. Staff attentive & courteous throughout the evening. Was disappointed they were out of the Penfolds Chardonnay we ordered, but was won out in the end cos we were then told about the Summer madness where Hugos have selected wines with 30% off the price. So we had a nice bottle of Australian Chardonnay instead. The menus is extensive especially with meat & cheese salad platters. Hubby had one of these to start which was truly very good & HUGE. 2 big chunks of cheese (chedder & brie), salad, sausage meat & terrine served on a wooden bread board. I started with the Scallops with Chorizo which I have to say was disappointing. While the portions where large for starters, the scallops were miniscule & tasteless. The mains again were very generous portions. Himself has the cos wrapped in ham which he declared lovely if a little dry. It came in a delicious pea sauce. I had sirlon steak cocked rare, not blue & not medium but rare. It did come out rare so kudos there as its hard to get in Ireland. However in my opinion, the steak wasn;t fried on a hot enough pan, as the outer layer had a stewed affect rather than fried. A fellow diner at the next table had the Creole prawn & scallop which looked gorgeous. Fine big juicy prawns & scallops on a bed of rice. It looked really good. We skipped desert as we were too full, finishing with an espresso & latte which were both good. Overall a good dining experience but too expensive for the quality of food we had to eat.

Went here with 3 friends and had the table d'hote for €34 a head. I thought it was good value - however althought the waiting staff were very friendly, they weren't very attentive - waiting to order wine is a bit poor in a restaurant of this caliber. Food was very good, we all had the steak, starters perhaps could be more adventurous, although to be fair I can't remember exactly what we had,I need to add the review without delay in future. I'l definetely go back tho. The restaurant is lovely, we had a really nice table down stairs, almost cavernous. I didn't see the wine menu so can't comment on the price list of same.

Ate here on a Sunday afternoon. The live music was great. The food options were mainly brunchy. We would have liked something more substantial. Our fault for not checking. The food was quite good. The wine list was very good with good choice by the glass. However, the first glass of Riesling I got was not chilled but they chilled it down in time for my second glass. Nice place. I'd like to try their full menu.

This was my second visit to Hugo's and it was absolutely fantastic. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful and we were given a choice of a couple of tables when we arrived. The menu, like a year ago, had something for everyone. We both started with the scallops, which were amazing and had steak to follow, which was equally good. We were well waited on, the room temp was absolutely perfect and the atmosphere was lovely. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a reasonably priced meal of very high standard.

Our 1st visit to Hugos was on our 22nd wedding anniversary. We had a table downstairs as a large party of 50 were upstairs and a bit on the noisy side. Our waitress was very helpful and apologised when we had to wait to give our order as she was busy clearing tables due to the large numbers. The starters were on the fishy side and I chose the queen scallops as had "regular" scallops before and found them ok. I did not realise that queen scallops were much smaller and therefore VERY fishy. Not really to my taste but glad I tried them. Mr. Boops choice was mixed salmon which he really enjoyed. Both starters were beautifully presented. My main of Rib-eye steak was delicious and came with BIG CHUNKY chips. YUM. Mr. Boops main of mixed lamb was equally enjoyed and a lamb spring roll included was really unusual. We finished off the meal with a shared cheese board and 2 espressos. A really enjoyable night and we will return soon.

I've been here a few times and I really like it. It's the atmosphere and decor that makes it really cosy and intimate place to eat. I was there for brunch recently and they had a live jazz band which was pretty cool. I have an aversion to egg though and the Brunch menu is very egg based so i ended up ordering the burger. It was nice but a bit heavy, I like my burger meat to be loose mince but this one was really condensed and tougher to eat. I wouldn't order it again however everybody else who ordered different things enjoyed their meals. I've been here for dinner before as a birthday treat and I adored it. I don't really like fish but we all gave each other a taste of each others meals and each one was fabulous including the fish. I'd love to go back for dinner there again though it's definitely a treat as the dinner menu was a bit pricey.

Ate here on a saturday night, the service and staff were very helpful and polite. I did not want to sit at the door and so they moved our table without a problem. The night stretched on and was very relaxing as we had the table from after 8 we did not have to rush to clear. The food was very good but nothing amazing either. I would go back but would not be overly excited about the place either

Been here twice now, once on a date and once with friends and was not disspointed either time. The owner / manager is very friendly and was a perfect host. I would highly recommend the frogs legs starter as it is one of the best in Dublin. The price is very resonable compared to some of the restaurants in its locality and is tastefully decorated. I wish Hugos all the best in the future and will be back again for more.

Myself and my friend had the pre-threatre / Early Bird in Hugos yesterday evening (6th April 2009). It was excellent. Gorgeous food, fabulous staff and excellent value for money. We both had the same starter, hummous, grilled vegetable starter. It was delicious served with fabulours breads. For the main I had the steak and my friend had the calamari. Both well impressed! Very generous portions! Cleared our plates because the dishes were both so tasty. Shared a bottle of vine and also had coffees. The total bill was under €70! Incredible value for money! Cant wait to go back! I see lots commented on the fabulous staff! They really are very attentive. Absolute pleasure. Nicest dining experience in Dublin city centre in a while!

Went to Hugo’s about three weeks ago and I was not disappointed. The food was amazing, the service was great and it was a little bit expensive, but well worth it. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and great location. I had the venison which was the best that I had ever had. On that particular night with the amount of people walking in looking for a table, they could have filled the restaurant again ten times! Only one small complaint would be that the matradee was quite rude, and never smiled but other than that a great spot.

Went here for an early bird dinner with my mother. I had the humus starter which was fine, fresh veg and ok humus and my mother had the fried camembert, which she didn't like at all. We both had steak for mains, which once again was fine but could have cooked it better myself. Quite like the decor but tables very close together. Service was good except for the fact that someone dropped a surprise gift in for me just before I arrived and despite there being only one other table present, no one bothered to give it to me. I did recieve a phone call the next day to say there was a package for me, but an awful lot of hassle to have to go back in and collect it.

Despite having booked and sat at our table at 6.30 - we were not offered the Early Bird - or it wasn't mentioned. Service was good - the food was fine - my friend went for the truffle tortellini to start which were definitely better than my goats cheese salad. For mains the chicken stuffed with gorgonzola was divine - but was overshadowed by the fab risotto. My friend did not enjoy the scallops as she felt they were overcomplicated with the angel hair pasta. Overall, I think it was overpriced and over ostentatious - but the staff couldn't be nicer!

Went in for the Early Bird with my wife. We were going into Bang, but decided to have a change. My wife had the Homous starter which was terrible. Slices of pepper and raw onion on a side plate over cold tasteless homous. This dish is so ill conceived, it is hard to know where to start. I had the fried camembert. It was a dish straight from 1992 and unremarkable, although vastly superior to the homous. For Mains, my wife had the Vegetable Tempura. Again - the mind boggles at who conceived of this dish. Very large slices of courgette and carrots (!) deep fried and served with mayonnaise and a sticky bbq sauce. It was monotonous and deeply uninspiring. I had the steak, which was fine, except the chips were not cooked and were still hard. On leaving, my wife remarked that she would have prefered a nice fast food meal over her experience! I would have given this restaurant a zero if it weren't for the attentive (and attractive) waiting staff who were doing their best. The decor & menu of this place need serious and urgent revision.

Hugo's is great food and lovely wines. The setting is lovely and cozy. We shared a big mezze plate as starter and has the cheese stuffed chicken wrapped in bacon with risotto and the other main was a sole fillet with spinach, pepper sauce and mash. Both plates were presented fabulously and the wine we selected fitted perfectly. For desert we selected the daily crumble and the creme brulee. It was a great way to top up our full bellies. I'm keeping Hugo's on my list!

I visited Hugos for the first time for lunch and was delighted with what was on offer. My starter oeufs en meurettes was a nice change from the usual offered in other places. I then went for bangers and mash which also went down quite well accompanied by a glass of expensive red. I will definitely be coming back. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking as there were only a few diners when I entered at 2.30pm but then I like eating in quiet restaurants. The service could have been a bit better as I had to stand up and beckon a waiter to take my order.

I ate here with a group of 4 for a graduation lunch. Food was excellent. The turkey soup is a meal in its self and steak was fantastic! and i love a good steak. nice cosey romantic setting and decor. the staff were top class very polite and chatty. There is a very continental feel to the place. pricewise its middle of the road. given the quality of the service and food you wont care what they charge. I even tipped and that is very rare i do that.

I was disappointed with the food: the breads were not particularly appetising, my steak was overcooked whilst the pasta starter was undercooked. To be fair, my companions were impressed with their venison mains. As for the atmosphere - it seemed to me that no interior designer was involved in the furnishing of this restaurant. Whilst the service was excellent and the wine selection good; there are better dining experiences to be enjoyed in the area.

Have been to Hugos for brunch on a couple of occassions and also for lunch. Lovely atmosphere, decor & general vibe much improved on Rubicon of old. The lunch menu was relatively short but did have sufficient variety. The venison burger nicely cooked remaining slightly pink, the home fries were excellent. Also enjoyed the cheesecake. Staff were attentive but not obtrusive at lunch but quite slow during a quiet saturday brunch

Was at a birthday party here (about 15 people). We were seated in the basement of the restaurant. The interior was lovely. The service was excellent, the food arrived quickly so we were all pleased. The food was nice however if there is a group of people, you are only allowed the set menu (can't choose from the a la carte). Overall, like this restaurant and will return.

We had the early bird before going to the Concert Hall. One of us had the Moroccan Lamb Tagine and the other Fishcake with Prawns and Roasted Vegetables. Both were delicious. The rhubarb and apple crumble was too sweet for my taste - but may suit others. Creme brulee was lovely. Hugos has a lovely old world comfortable atmosphere - not the usual wood-chrome-noisy modern style. The menu is more interesting and adventurous than most, it is good value for Dublin 2 and the service is efficient. We will definitely go there again.

I had lunch with two colleagues and it was my first time there in 9 months. For lunch-time, it was very quiet and the menu was disappointing. There was the usual selection of starters and the mains only featured one fish dish which was deep-fried and very disappointing. I had a starter of paté which I would not recommend. We did not have desserts. We ordered herbal tea to finish however we received the wrong order. There did not appear to be any managers in situ and the waiter had an annoying habit of calling myself and another colleague "lady" when he presented each dish. The waitress who took each order was very polite. The decor was pleasant as was the location however it will be some time before I return.

Visited Hugos twice, once for lunch and once for an early bird. The lunch was excellent in lovely surroundings, really nicely decorated. The early bird was not quite as good, had a chicken dish which was very stodgy and not great, possibly bad choice. I will return to try it again as it has a lovely ambiance.

We went here for a work Christmas lunch, food was excellent and the service good. The goats cheese tarlet is beautiful, as was the beef, and you cant go wrong with the baileys cheescake for desert. However the chocolate sauce with the cheesecake is merely a decoration on the plate. My colleagues had good reviews about the mackerel and the soup, but the Homemade game and cointreau terrine was likened to corned beef and the petit pain frais did not exist. Reviews of the turkey and ham and the salmon were good and there was a good selection of wine. A good meal overall a nice atmosphere and we were not rushed even after 3 hours of dining.

I've eaten here 3 times and haven't been disappointed once. It does have a French feel to the menu which is nice. Their scallops are exquisite, and their steak-frites with bearnaise is delish. I've always been too full to have dessert, but they do sound and look nice. It is a little bit pricey, but the service and decor and food are very high quality. Wine menu is a bit dear. But very impressive selection of wines by the glass. Their sunday and early birds are quite good value.

I ate here last Saturday night. A little unlucky to be given a table just inside the door. This area is very cramped and on a busy, freezing Saturday night the door is never closed for long. However the service was excellent. The Italian white wine of the month was also excellent. The food is good. The menu is quite limited which is a little unusual. Prices are average for this part of town. My overall rating is probably less than this restaurant deserves but that is due to being seated in what is basically an entrance corridor. BTW their web site has been down for weeks.

Had a fantastic meal here last week. The food was amazing as was the service. The restaurant has a great atmosphere especially on a cold winters evening. It was a little pricey but I feel it was worth it. Will definitely be back !

Visited here with 5 others one evening and had a great time. Even though it was a Monday it was almost full and the atmosphere was great. Can't remember what I had but it was all good and the wine great too (probably had too much which is why I can't remember the fine details!). It is on the expensive side but well worth it.

Visited this restaurant on a Sunday Morning for Bruch. We were there early and there was a musican setting up for jazz preformance (pity we missed it!!) The welcome was warm and inviting. The service was plesant and at a nice pace not rushed but not left trying to get someones attention either. Food was presented well and portions just right, it was the tastest meal I've had in ages, well worth a visit hope to visit again over christams.

Hugos was really good and I look forwards to going back. Food was quality, good produce and service was attentive and knowledgeable. Perfect for couples but maybe not a large group. Great location too. Best sirloin steak I've ever had. Everyone else ate fish and I had the pleasure to sample all. Nice wines and cosy.

I visited this restaurant a month ago with my family and we had a fantastic evening. I would like to point out overall the staff as they played a definitive roll in the success of our meal. Attentive, nice and professional they took care of every detail from the beginning to the end. We decided to follow the recommendations of our waitress as we were a bit undecided, despite of I had been there before a couple of times, and we did not regret at all. All the food was lovely. The other thing to highlight positively is the honesty of the staff, we started to order lots of different dishes as they seemed all tempting for us and the waitress suggested us to reduce our order as it was going to be lots of food. Fair play. The only negative point, from my perspective, is the light of the restaurant. It is very dim and it produces you a sleepy sensation after being there for a while. Not a big deal as the other things compensate by far this small fault. I will be back whenever I can get the chance!

Girlfriend and I visited Hugos after late shopping last Thursday. After a quick drink in the Shelbourne, we looked forward to our meal. We were not dissapointed. It's definitely very "french". The menu is tasty and adventurous. It was our first visit and I must say the food and service were very good.

I absolutely love Hugos. The food was excellent as was the service. I also fell in love with the decor - so atmospheric and cosy. The wine list was enormous but easy to navigate to locate the perfect wine to accompany the beautiful meal we had. I can highly recommend Hugos and intend on returning many times in the future.

Hugo's was my husbands pick for dinner last saturday, and it was a good choice. The dining room is split in two at the front of the restaurant there are high tables and chairs like you would find in a pub. In the other section there are normal height table and chairs. this is where we sat. The walls are red and gold and overall the decor reminded me of an old fashioned restaurant , but in a very good, warm and welcoming way. The service was flawless for the entire evening and the food was even better. I had a very generous portion of goats cheese as a starter with fresh berries and honey. I had the tiger prawns for my main course and they were fresh and tasty and huge. the hollandaise sauce that accompanied them (along with creole rice and some veg) was also divine. My husbands steak was tender and cooked exactly as asked. Hugo's is a perfect place to go on a date especially if you're wine lovers. The portions are very generous and definately value for money.

I landed in here for Sunday brunch yesterday after promising My Princess for weeks- we were not disappointed. There was a cool Jazz combo playing in the corner and the place was packed, but very relaxed. The music had its influence on punters and staff alike- service was prompt and proffessional, but nicely laid-back. I had a wonderful Broccoli soup followed by great Eggs Benedict (loved the Hollandaise!) but the love of my life found her Charcuterie Plate lacking bread (quickly offered) and her Burrito too spicy. The menu was nicely varied with a lot of comfort food dishes- ideal for a lazy Sunday brunch without too many difficult choices. Despite the shortcomings in her food choices, Princess loved the ambience and the music and informed me that we must return. Our bill came to ninety-something (champagne by the glass here is not cheap) and was worth every cent for the smiles she gave me for the rest of the day- thanks Hugo!

Went for brunch yesterday with friends. It's such a gorgeous place. The decor is fab. There was a live jazz band who were great. 5 of us had brunch with an excellent bottle of wine and we shared a dessert - it came to €105! Seriously good value for great food and lovely ambience. Go and have the chocolate nemesis - words couldn't describe it! Will definitely be going back as soon as possible.

I went here with my family and girlfriend. There were 6 of us altogether. The food was lovely and well presented. However, both my brother and girlfriend's first choice of starter and main were all gone. It was unusually busy for a weeknight but this was still disappointing. The service was ok but could have been better. Overall I would recommend this restaurant. Food was still very very nice and wine list is vast!

I've had dinner in this restaurant 5 or 6 times in the last 2 months, always with the same great food quality and excellent service. I've tried most of the menu options and I must say that all are fantastic. The wine list is very complete. One of my favourite places to dinner in Dublin.

Lovely surroundings, quite a french feel to it. Went here for lunch, had the steak with the hand cut chips and brandy sauces which was really tasty, but the medium steak was more rare as my plate was quite bloody by the end of it. The lunch menu changes weekly, so you cant plan ahead your order! I thought the steak was a bit expensive on a lunch menu at 27 euro. A smaller cut of steak at a cheaper price would have been more suitable for lunchtime.

Very very poor. I would not reccommend it and I will not be back. Had to wait ten minutes for our table which was booked. Had the charcuturie starter which was dissapointing. Poor quality meat and poor vegetables with one single olive served. The venison main course was tasteless over cooked and smothered in sauce. Served with gamechips which were more akin to a packet of salted chips. The cheeseboard was weak with bland slices of cheese served alongside a few lettuce leaves and a kiwi, all on a old cracked chopping board. Overall not worth the money. Service was poor and restaurant was understaffed. To top it all the smell of the toilets was all over downstairs but that could also have been the smelly rubbish bag dragged through the restaurant by the staff.

Had dinner here with my parent recently. We all really enjoyed it, although, I had duck for main course & it was very well done, I ate it as I didn't want to cause a fuss. My parents loved their mains, desserts were fab. Wine service was a bit slow as they didn't have my first choice, it took ages for them to come back & tell us... overall, it was a good experience, good value, will be back.

Dined here on Friday night. The food was delish. Delighted with the extensive selection of wine! The cheesecake was disappointly bland which after such a beautiful main course was surprising. Waiting staff were v helpful recommending wine & dishes. I was not impressed with the bill being dropped at our table without it being asked for or indeed clearly being "rushed" to put on our coats once we had paid. We had been advised that we had the table until 9.30 -the bill was dropped to us at 8.50 while finishing our wine! The "coat thing" was simply rude. The unprofessionalism of the "front of house" left a sour taste in our mouths as we left the restaurant.

Fantastic experience. I loved the decor and cosy atmosphere. The staff were very pleasant, professional and attentive but still relaxed. The menu was really interesting, lots of things i was torn between. The food i did order was gorgeous - couldn't find any fault and finished it off with a very nice creme brulee. Definitely one i'd recommend!

Had a beautiful meal here last night, food was just lovely, service was great, not a single thing to complain about. Confit and Scallops were to die for. Reasonable as well- 4 people, 3 courses each, coffee and 2 bottles of wine came to €220. Nothing was too much hassle fot the waiting staff, even though one of our party was about half an hour late and it took us forever to order. Loved it and will be back

I like Hugos. Nice location, cute place. I brought my sister there for her birthday. On arrival I was gave my surname to the maitre d', she responded "Hi Siobhan". I gave her my proper first name, and she laughed and said that she's copied it wrong from the email I had sent. A little casual, but fine. Another waitress arrived and my sister and I were left waiting for several minutes as they spoke at length about a kitchen problem. Finally, she turned to us and waved us in the direction of a table by the windows. Nobody offered to take our coats so we had to drape them over our chairs. We, and several other customers, asked if they could close the windows, it was very chilly - it took a further twenty minutes and the help of a pleasant waiter to get the problem solved. The service, from that point on was flawless - our waiter was charming and efficient. The food was excellent.

My husband and I went to lunch here and this was his first time, I have been here a few times and today I was extremely disappointed. I ordered the burger with chunky chips, when the burger came out I cut into it and it was red in the middle, if this was the way there were going to serve it they should have asked me how I would like it cooked. I sent the burger back and the second time there were still pink bits in it which just put me off it so I decided to eat the chunky chips and they were still hard!!! I don't think I will be eating here again.

Very enjoyable meal here. Booked a table for 2 for 9:30 on a Saturday night. Shown to table immediately. Very good service, never left waiting for anything for too long. I had the duck leg confit to start, the duck itself was great, but the accompanying salad was just downright weird. Cubed fried potatoes, lettuce leaves and some sweet relish. I thought something more savoury would have been more appropriate. Main courses were Scallops and the Pork with Clonakilty Black pudding, both absolutely delicious. I thought the Pork dish worked amazingly well. 3 courses plus bottle of Gigondas and 2 glasses of win came to €120. Great Athmosphere. Toilets were a bit messy, but not dirty. The posted cleaning rota in the Gents didn't seem to be adhered to though...

Very disappointing meal. Firstly, this is purely a wine bar, no beer, aperatifs etc. My husband had pate which arrived out with two slices of loaf bread cut in half (not even toasted. His main course was a (tasteless) steak, potatoes and half a plate full of green beans. For myself I had frogs legs, it was ok and then I had the pork on a bed of cabbage. The apple sauce served with it had raisins and cinammon through it and was so sweet I thought my cabbage was gone off! We did complain and got a complimentary coffee and our bottle of wine, but I would have rathered pay the full price for an enjoyable meal. Will definately not be going back and would not recommend it.

Ate here with a couple of well travelled'foody' friends recently. Having read the reviews I was keen but I dont believe it really held up to those. A nice place, it looks better inside than out! But it was so hot in there - uncomfortably so. A place for a quiet dinner for 2 or 4, but not a large party venue. The food was good but not spectacular and believe the prices to be slightly higher than the quality deserves. The presentation & service was good & a nice wine list - not too big & well priced. I will return, but it won't be any time soon.

Met a friend for lunch here the other day. Food was superb, but the service was a little slow for a city centre restaurant at lunch time. Considering that most people have just an hour for lunch, leaving almost 20 minutes between the two courses was too long a wait. However, the food was really good. Main courses (chicken skewers with mexican rice and fish and chips) were very tasty, but what was truly delicious was the starter - we both had the prawns and pink grapefruit which was one of the tastiest dishes I have eaten in ages. I would return for this alone. Overall - I would highly recommend thsi restaurant. Have eaten here a number of times, and always leave satisfied. Enjoy!

Have eaten here several times and it just gets better, as opposed to other restaurants that peak and then just stop caring. The food is great, the wine is cheaper than you would expect. It's nice to see a steak being sold without the weight of the fat mentioned on the menu. The atmosphere and comfort factor are always spot on, only because the staff enjoy their job and work to keep up. Looking forward to nest visit already.

I had heard about Hugo's from a friend and have wanted to dine there but had not had a chance, so i was delighted when i chose to bring my wife to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary. We were welcomed with a lovely smile,(which is always a good start), and the night only got better. Warm, friendly, professional staff, fabulous menu( my wife is quite picky but even she had trouble picking just one entree and main)and an equally good wine list catering for every taste. The meals were beautiful and the whole evening was memorable. We will definately be back.

We ate here on the early bird which is good value. I had the pate to start which was delicious - great strong flavour, with nice garnishes. My friend had the potato salad which was apparently only ok. We both had the chicken mains (unusual for me) which came with sundried tomato risotto, and was delicious. the nicest chicken dish I've had in a long time with lovely parma ham crisps. We were too full for dessert. Our only quibble was that the service was not good, they hassled us to order quickly to get the early bird although I had booked our table for 20 minutes before it ended, and they often tried to take our plates before we'd finished (despite an abundance of tables). But we held firm, and enjoyed our meal

We were here in a party of 8 and I will deffo be going back. The food was a little disappointing for some in the group (the sole was not a hit with one diner) whereas the steak was pure melt in the mouth meat. Over all though the food got the thumbs up, a little poorer quality wise than we were expecting, but good enough for us to feel we would return and give it another chance. The wine was very nice, good choice on the list, reasonable price range. Service was good, though we were reminded a little too often that our table was rebooked for 9.30. All in all a nice spot in a handy location.

Nice place but would not blow you away.Had lunch here Friday a number of weeks ago with two others. Food was quite homely, nothing too fancy and didn't blow me away. Starter was nice but a bit non descript.Steak for mains which was slightly overcooked. Waitress has forgot accompanying sauce so had to ask for it. Service ok but a bit slow especially when waiting to pay bill. Nice for casual bite but would not be for business lunch or special occasion.

I have chosen Hugos to celebrate my birthday few weeks ago and was delighted with my choice. Have heard many good reviews about the place and seen it on Channel 6, so was looking forward to sample it myself. All evening was a fantastic experience- attentive staff, delicious food and relaxing atmosphere. Certainly recommend both for the parties and romantic dinners.

Had a booking for party of 10 for my mother's 60th birthday on Saturday. All agreed that the food was fabulous and great value for money. Particular mention to the fish and duck dishes - superb. Our waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Seated downstairs, which suited our gang because it felt like we had our own room but to be part of the overall atmosphere of the restaurant I recommend that you ask for upstairs. But, there is a but. This 'two sittings' arrangement which has become the norm for most restaurants now cast a big shadow over the enjoyment of our meal. The table was reserved for 7.30 and were told on booking that we must vacate at 9.30. Arriving first, I was told that we may not have time to have three courses and it was suggested that we opt for two! No pressure there then! The rest of the party on arrival were rudely told by front of house staff that they were late and when it was pointed out that it was only one minute past 7.30, he stated that the booking was for 7.00. When his mistake was pointed out, all that was said was that we definitely had to be out for 9.30. All this before we even ordered a thing! We were very conscious throughout the meal of the time factor and left (having again been reminded) at a couple of minutes past 9.30. Overall extreme pressure to get us in and out I guess so as not to upset their next round of customers and in doing so lost sight of the value of the ones they had .... a shame because the food is great!

Despite arriving 25 minutes late we received a warm welcome and were quickly and efficiently seated and served. The staff throughout were charming and helpful and this made up for a couple of slips. Our foursome ordered Tiger Prawns Linguine, which were deliciously garlicky, chicken Breast in a Mushroom Sauce, which disappeared very quickly and very unusual Lamb Bagel. All reported that their dishes were excellent. There followed great disappointment afterwards when our waiter returned from the kitchen to declare that our dessert of choice, the Tarte Tatin was 'off'. Luckily the substitute Crème Brulee and Cheesecake more than compensataed. The only other slip in an otherwsie super lunch was that the waiter forgot to bring one of our party her dessert. There was no wine but with soft drinks, water and coffees the bill for four, including a tip, came to €128.

I was looking forward to trying Hugo's on the basis of previous reviews. I suggested Hugo's as a change of scene... but was left hugely disappointed. Served by 3 very impolite servers - none of whom told us what was OFF the menu - we ordered only to be told 5 minutes later that NONE of our main dishes were available. My pate was awful, loose and watery, poorly presented on a cheap circular wooden board with a limp salad and a paper cup of Cumberland sauce. The Camembert spring rolls one of my friends had were beautiful and nicely presented - and promptly demolished. As none of our mains were available, we settled for a prawn dish (available as a scallop dish on the menu... but they had no scallops) 2 bouillabaisse with a fabulous langoustine each on top and I had an 8oz sirloin steak (ordered medium rare, served medium rare - my highlight of my meal!) - all were good, but poor waiter service - 2nd bottle of wine left on cabinet beside our table with top still on - so I served it, left us feeling very disappointed with our night... This restaurant didn't just open and it's on Merrion Row, I guess we just expected so much more.

I ate here when this place first opened and wanted to give it another go before I made up my mind. Now that I have, I must say I remain unconvinced. With a booking they squashed four of us into a window seat which was v uncomfortable. Took 20 mins for us to get a bottle of wine to add to the nerves. Food was quite good but too many things going against it. They need to remember us customers are a necessity rather than a luxury for them.

I had been looking forward to trying Hugo's myself having heard mixed reviews about it. Went on Tuesday evening with 2 friends, the place was quite empty when we arrived at 6.15pm but filled up as the evening went on. Hugo's seems to attract alot of tourists, no doubt given its location to nearby hotels. I had the pork as a main dish but I was disappointed with the way it was presented, it semed to be a mountain of food on the plate which was slightly off putting. The pork loin tasted nice but nothing to rave about, I have had nicer in other places, the halved potatoes it was served with didnt seem to be fully cooked as they had a slight bite to them. Service was friendly and attentive. Overall our meal was ok, but I woouldn't be rushing back.

Had been looking forward to trying Hugos after hearing great things about it and wasn't disappointed! Staff were extremely courteous and friendly and assisted us with our wine choice for the evening. Duck confit made a great starter and had pork tenderloin for mains which was ever so slightly overdone for my liking but did not take from my enjoyment of the meal. Had a sample of the duck and sea bass from friends' plates - also delicious!Unfortunately we were too full for deserts but they looked delicious as the plates passed by our table!!

Hosted a party here recently for 15 people and the whole evening was supreb, the food was delightful and the staff were attentive but not overly so. No pressure to buy the most expensive champagne when asked for guidance. A little gem!!

I was very impressed with our visit here; a great atmosphere was had on a monday night, standard of service very high (lovely smiley and attentive staff) and food delicious and reasonable priced (average dublin prices that weren't adjusted for the location and standard). I had a rabbit and cepes pate and my boyfriend had snail and bacon wontons for starters- both portions were suitable for sharing (one between 2 of us would have been plenty). For mains I had blossom with cajun jumbalaya- this white fish could take the complexity and richness of it's accompaniments, but needless to say they were rolling us out of there.

Do you want to eat reasonably priced, well presented French scrumptious food? Would you like to see a wine list that doesn't jepordise your mortgage repayments ?Tasteful decor, attentive service and a soundtrack that gently sets the ambience things that attract you to an eaterie?Ok, I lied about the music, it is easy-listening but too much so for my liking, but Hugos does meet all the other criteria. I can't fault them on quality or price. Eat there when you can still get a booking!

Had a delicious meal here on Valentine's day. When we arrived they had a little box with a chocoloate on each table. It was a lovely touch. We both had the steak and it was cooked just as we asked (m-r is so hard to get right in restaurants). Gorgeous wine, perfectly chilled. Staff we attentive and filled our water as they passed. Very enjoyable experience. Hard to get a booking though.

I love this place, we had Brunch here yesterday morning, we had Eggs benedict, one with salmon, the other with Spinach. The decor is superb, the staff were very friendly, the quality was very fresh, and really over all left a very good impression. Their dinner menu is original, though not huge, and their wine list is very thoughtfully planned, with a good choice. Definitely go here !!

Had a great meal here on a Friday night. As we were two, we were propped up at the high tables in the front of the restaurant...not a problem. More comfortable seating behind and down below for larger parties. The starters were refreshingly interesting. In hindsight, we shouLd have gone for a few starters and foregone the mains. We opted for a rabbit rillette and a toulouse sausage & lentil salad - both delicious. For mains we had the fillet steak and a pasta dish, which were very good. Then rounded off the meal with a good tarte tatin.

Hugos is badly needed in this location. You can get a good meal here for the right price. lovely wine list and service was very friendly the night we were there. I ordered a steak and it was well done instead of medium. They gave me another one and did not charge me for it. decent.

It was our first visit and we enjoyed a late lunch. We liked the decor. We shared the Assiette de Charcuterie. It was very good value for a small portion and we were glad that we didn't order the bigger size. The meats were good, but the salad wasn't very fresh and unappetising looking. I had steak and potato wedges. The steak was tasty enough, but very difficult to cook such a thin steak to a medium request. The chips were good. My husband had a chorizo omelette, which was tasty. The wine was very nice. The staff were friendly and efficient. We were not quite finished by closing time, but they didn't rush us at all.

It started out bad and just got worse, we ordered 2 mid range wines both within 40-45 euro, our waitress came over opened them and plonked them in the middle of the table. (so we tasted and poured our own wine). Most of our group ordered medium steaks all of which were very well done and the chips were rare! We returned these and got blue steaks instead. The manager was very good, he took the steaks off the bill and offered complimentary desserts. The starters, desserts and wine were all very good, but our waitress was awful and made everything seem like a chore. It is the hospitality industry, if you don't like, don't work in it.

My favourite restaurant in Dublin. After my first visit here several months ago, I was a little disappointed, but I have returned four times now and each time it gets better and better. The menu is fabulous, the staff couldn't be friendlier or more helpful and the food is amazing. The decor is warm and luxurious and whenever I go, I feel like it's a special occasion - even if it's for lunch with colleagues. Took my Mum and Auntie as a special evening out and we all LOVED it....it's a great place to go for a romantic dinner too. All in all, this place is a winner, give it a try and see for yourself.

Ate here last night and we were a little disappointed. Service and atmosphere was very good and decor is really lovely but we felt the food was just average. Not worth the price. My other half liked the snail and bacon won tons and I liked the potato salad for starter but the mains were kind of tasteless and just ok. Good wine list.

My third time there & it just keeps getting better! My visits have been both for business & for my own pleasure. The atmosphere & decor are among the best around. Staff (& management)are lovely (professional yet fun) & food is sooo tasty. I have tried different things on each visit & love the flavours. So far I've had excellent steak & handmade chips, to die for scallops & the tenderest pork ever! Honestly don't understand how others have complaints about here. My latest visit was on the busy Saturday of an international rugby match & things could not have gone smoother. Management were extremely accommodating to our table which swelled in numbers. I love what they have done to the downstairs area, will be booking it soon for a private party. Keep up the good work Hugos... you are fastly becoming my favourite restaurant in Dublin!

Have been here a few times and will return again. Don't fancy the high tables to the front but the low tables to the rear are fine, and the tables downstairs offer a cosier atmosphere. Food is good for this price and for those with an appetite the portions are sizable. Great coffee.

Went there last Sunday for lunch, booked it previously. Choice of wine was nice. Charcuterie, duck confit decidedly bad. Asked about the chef special (which was on the menu), they first said that they don't have any. When I said that it was on the menu they went in and came back that the special was pan fried salmon (:-)). Anyway, the service after that just kept going downhill. So did the food. Should have got negative rating, the one star is because of the fabulous manager (she is brilliant) and due to the desserts. Coffee is passable. They do need to change the waitresses. And their starters. And the menu. And the main courses.

We ate here during the week, very pleasant atmosphere, food was very well cooked and presented, good portion sizes, staff very attentive. Everyone was generally pleased with the dishes, the Roquefort tart for starter was the exception, far too much cheese, basically melted Roquefort on a plate. Very enjoyable evening though. Not as dressy as I had expected, although maybe moreso at the weekend.

My friends and I visited for dinner last week and hearing great reviews about the place. We found the restaurant to have great atmosphere, fantastic wine list and probably the best fillet steak I have had in a while. The staff were very friendly and professional and the manager couldn't do enough for us, which is rare these days, keep up the good work!

Very quaint room. Nice staff. Starter of chartuterie was decidedly average. Meats were refrigerator cold and poor quality. Salad of Endive and blue cheese was one of the nicest I have had in quite some time. Rib Eye of Beef was superb. Good coffee. Excellent service, friendly and efficient.

I ate hear recently & was quite disappointed considering all the rave reviews. I had both a dinner & brunch on 2 seperate occasions. For dinner I had to ask staff as to whether certain key ingredients were missing from my plate,( which I knew they were), & they looked at me blankly & said they would have to check the menu! On the brunch occasion I had eggs benedict which not only came out cold, but without the hollandaise sauce, so in fact I got a poached egg on a soggy crumpet! Again the waitress looked at me blankly & had to consult her menu! In fairness it was rectified immediately & with an apology, however I am of the opinion that if you work in a restaurant then you should know your menu. The decor & wine was lovely & I really enjoyed the desserts on offer, however overall I think it's overpriced and maybe a little too much hype for yet another mediocre restaurant.

I Visited Hugos at the begining of the silly season with 5 of my friends the service was really terrible. I had to leave before my dessert as I had a prior arrangment but I was there for a total of two and a half hours and my main arrived ten minutes before I left!!!!! However the food was delicious when it arrived albeit late, I will try this restaurant again, to give it another chance.

I went to Hugo's for brunch on Sunday with a friend and, after hearing good reviews about the restaurant, was really looking forward to it. We both ordered Eggs Benedict and I ordered an orange juice. The orange juice was not freshly squeezed, it was concentrate. The eggs benedict were lovely but stone cold. We told the waitress and she smiled and said sorry. Then we shared a dessert which we were told was apple crumble but was, in fact, a mixed fruit crumble. This wasn't a problem really, but it was when I ended up trying to chew on thick wedges of lemon - not exactly the type of fruit you want to get in a fruit crumble! It was disgusting to say the least. I will definitely not be returning to this restaurant although in it's defence, I found the waiters and the service in general to be very good.

4 of us went for dinner here one Wednesday evening and I must say, all of us were more than impressed. The food was absolutely top class and the sole vegetarian was delighted with her dish. If I could pick a fault it would be that the chips (moreso the larger ones) were a little undercooked. Just a tad, but enough to feel mealy and a little hard. That said, everything else was incredibe, and my fillet steak was cooked to absolute medium-rare perfection. The wine list is great, the service is great and the ambiance is great. I highly recommend Hugo's.

I tried Hugo's last night... Having booked a table in advance, I was surprised that we were put in the downstairs part of the restaurant which was decidely quiet - infact we were the only diners! The waitress promised it would fill up. Nearly half an hour later and no sign of any service my date popped back upstairs (to the more lively area) and insisted that we be moved. 10 mins later (in between which we ordered our food) we found ourselves back in the hustle and bustle of the main restaurant.. To our next disapppointment, we waited almost an hour for our meals... having chased the waiter, and during which we discovered that our expensive bottle of wine, was sat in a bucket of water... i.e. instead of ice - this reduced the impact of the fine chablis we'd chosen but we decided not to complain. The restaurant redeemed itself by the final arrival of the food which in fairness was delicious. My date chose the duck with dauphinnoise and I chose the fish with chorizo mash.. both meals were highly tasty... Overall a disappointing evening.. spoilt by the messy service and food delays.. Could have just been a bad night! I would try again as I believe in 2nd chances!

Went there with four others for a Christmas get together. We had to wait an hour for our table which had been booked for almost 3 months but it was silly season so we had a glass of wine and just went along with it. Service was ok, definitely not friendly or even pleasant but efficient. I have a Gorgonzola tart to start which was ok but tasted mass produced. Then I had the veal and it really was awful, very bland and served with tomatoey gnocchi. Odd combo and done properly it mighthave worked. The room is very nice, well decorated and even though it was fullit didn't feel crowded. My one serious gripe was how we were treated at the end of our meal. While I understand that tables have to be turned I don't think standing over your customers is necessary. 5 different people came to our table in the space of 10 minutes to clear up, one waitress reached across me to the point where her arm was touching my face - acceptable, i don't think so. We were asked to finish our drinks downstairs but we declined. No apology was made for the delay in seating us and we were forced to leave our table on time for the next seating by sheer rudeness. Won't be back

Decided to pop in to the place for a quick lunch last Friday, it was my first time dining there. However, it will also probably be my last time (at least @ lunchtime anyway), for me it just did not offer value for money!! For mains I opted for the 8oz rib eye steak which was accompanied by home made wedges, seasonal vegetables and a béarnaise sauce, while for desert I had the crème brulee. I also had a glass of the St. Emilion with my meal (it was Friday after all!!). The sum total of this was €33 (not including tip). Don’t get me wrong the food & wine were of a good quality, but for that price?? No, not for me … Why should I? When Baggott Street offers such a great choice of eateries that offer great lunch specials!!

Ate here recently with two of my collegues and had a very enjoyable meal. The Moules avec frites were delicious, in the most tasty cream sauce, and laced with garlic! The other plus of the restaurant was the wide selection of wines available by the glass... perfect for a table that wanted both red and white!

I had an early evening dinner in Hugo's with my partner last night and overall feel positive about the dining experience. The menu is slightly different while there is a large choice of both starters and main, there was nothing I felt that I "must have". I chose a chicken salad starter and roast pork for main. The portions were rather small and the pork dish, while delicious was accompained by a sauce/gravy and potatoes and salad. The salad, I felt was a little unnecessary as it just became quite soggy in the sauce. However apart from that everything was delicious. My partner chose duck for starter and chicken for main course, the portion of chicken was a bit of a joke, it looked like 2 wings on his plate. The duck in his starter was actually a larger portion than the chicken in the main course. I liked the ambience and the service was good. Hugo's only have a wine licence, which is a little annoying. It's definitely worth a try. Don't book tables downstairs.....very pokey....!!

Superb. Went here for lunch with a friend and we both had a truly wonderful meal. My roast beef was as tender and flavoursome as anything I have had before and the accompanying potatoes, carrots and mushrooms were equally tasty. My friend had a steak which was very good and we both had the Tarte Tatin for dessert which was excellent. Not a huge menu as someone else has said but I would certainly go back for the beef alone.

The Rubicon was a favorite of ours. So when I had a chance to visit it in its new identity - Hugos - I jumped at the chance. Atmosphere and service were great. But the menu left me searching for something to order, rather than struggling to choose! The starter and main (I plumped for a fillet steak - what you order when nothing else jumps off the menu!!)were very good. But two of the party ordered fish and the portions were tiny!! There are so many excellent restaurants in the area, Hugos will have to do more work on their menu to attract me back!!

Went here for lunch recently and my overall impression was positive. My starter of prawns were really tasty and quite filling. My main course of beef was reasonable but I was left slightly disappointed with it and would not choose it again. The wine list is large and whilst the decor might not be to everyone's taste it is certainly different.

Myself and my friends ate in Hugo's last night, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The food was gorgeous. Everybody's plate was cleared. What a wonderful taste experience. Will definitely be back again. Good atmostphere in the place too.

I stumbled over this place on the night of the France v Ireland rugby match and it was definitely a 'find'. We were well looked after even though it was a different waitress each time and the food was great. I was pleasantly surprised at the bill as I have paid far more for way less in other restaurants!

Ate here for Brunch on Sunday. Food was very nice and well presented. Good value for money and their wine list is very good. Service was very attentive but (as is mentioned before) we never had the same waiter once. The decor is really, really nice. Atmosphere was a little poor but there were only 12 other people in the restaurant at the time. Will be booking for an evening meal as the evening menu looks very good.

Ate here last night and really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was fantastic. We sat at the back of the main dining room and the decor is really nice. Had the frogs legs (1st time) on the basis of reviews I had read here beforehand. They were delicious. I had scallops for main course and they were also lovely, served in a really nice butter sauce. The wine selection was very impressive and thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.

Ate midweek here. Room was full enough, nice atmosphere and food was good - frogs legs were delicious - but service was a real let down. Staff were friendly enough but had a different staff member each time something was delivered or taken away, and we were left for more than half an hour waiting for dessert menus or the bill or something with nothing on the table, when the restaurant was emptying. Would go back again to give another try for sure though.

Ate here last night, and like a previous review, some things were missing off the menu. Had been looking forward to sampling frogs' legs after reading about them, also sardines. But both were gone, as were both our white and red wine selections. Waitress very helpful in reselecting wines. Starters were disappointing...too much, and resembled pub grub, with generic salads and sauces. My duck confit was not great, with large amounts of white oozing fat below a very crisp surface. Fat and skin should nearly be glooped together with crumbling flesh, in a good confit, but this was nothing like that. Main was good: Squid ink Tagliatelle, with seafood. Mussels were small, and in some cases, shells empty. Dish was quite salty, and after a while, this overpowered the flavour of the sauce. Not sure will be going back, as have eaten much better meals in other restaurants recently.

Ate here on a Tuesday night. Food was good and the room is nice with good music. Staff were friendly but the service was a bit slow. Quite a few things were missing off the food and the wine menu which was a bit frustrating. All in all nice place for a midweek meal not a place I'd book.

Having made my reservation 6 weeks ago, and the reservation was confirmed 3 times during the week, dinner last Saturday night began on a really bad note. My party and I (3 of us in total) arrived for dinner at 9.30pm. We were shown to a coffee table with 3 stools and a couch, set for 4 people, in the basement. This table was situated between a wine bar, the toilets and the kitchen. Initally the hostess said that she had no other tables free and they were completely booked out for the night, and that if I had wanted a table in the main restaurant I should have stated so when making my reservation. Not satisfied with that as an excuse, I asked to see the manager. One of my friends also had a bit of a rant, and between us, suddenly her attitude changed. There was alot of discussion but to cut a long story short, a table in the main restaurant came free within 5 minutes of her leaving us, and we were promptly moved upstairs. The rest of the evening went off without a hitch, and the food was pleasant, but unfortunately the experience at the beginning left us all somewhat numb to it all. I will say that I ordered the steak, and confirmed with the waitress that the sauce was on the side. My fillet steak arrived, butterflied, with sauce on top of the steak and french beans. I should have sent it back, but after having to fight with them to get a real table I was afraid of what I would have to do to get my dinner right. In the end he hostess did comp our bottle of wine, as an apology and the service thru' out the meal could not be faulted. It is good value, but I'd be reluctant to go back given the trauma at the beginning. Also I'd be sure to mention that I wanted to sit in the main restaurant!

Good, upscaley food, at reasonable prices. The decor didn't wow me, but the service was friendly and the location is great. A lot of seafood choices, something for us vegetarians, and the obligatory steak were all there. The starters were difficult to choose between, they all sounded good! The dessert menu is really interesting, and I loved the not-too-sweet greek youghurt & berry dessert.

My experience of lunch here last week was generally good. Service is both efficient and pleasant. Soup starter was delicious. I found my main course of steak pretty tough and not the greatest cut of meat. The prawn main course looked great. The decor is pleasant and lends itself to being able to hear your companions unlike alot of similar restaurants. Overall, I'd say nice but not outstanding

My wife and I ate at Hugo's last week and were both extremely impressed by the quality of the food, the ambiance of the restaurant and the efficiency and friendliness of the staff. It is so refreshing to see a new restaurant of this calibre open in Dublin where the dining experience is so often characterised by poor quality food and disinterested service. Our waitress Sarah was delightful and charming, attending to our every need with a quiet professionalism. I ordered the Cajun Pirogue, which was delicately spiced and perfectly cooked; my wife's Squid Ink Tagliatelle was al dente and complemented by a wonderful selection of seafood. We shall definitely return to Hugo's in the near future.

We ate there last night and all that can be said is that the whole experience was excellent! The food quality was second to none. The food is very resonably priced and their extensive wine list contains great wines priced from below €20 to €400.... The service and attention to detail is not found wanting from the staff and the overall experience was most enjoyable. We could not reccomend this place enough!

Wow! We went for dinner on Friday night & it was just brilliant! Had heard about it from work friends who had had lunch there. Have to say it was one of the best nights out... great fun! From the minute we entered we were made feel like old friends. Staff & management were so friendly. We had a beautiful meal... frogs legs were a first for me but delish! Had the scallops for main course & they just melted in my mouth. Chocolate brownie is to die for! Nice lenghty wine list & loads by the glass. Decor is very special. But the atmosphere is just buzzing...so many people seemed to know each other and with the open windows it just feels so continental... will definitely be back :-)

Below average food. I visited Hugos for lunch recently and was disappointed with the standard of the food. I decided on the grilled basil chicken salad - I found the chicken very tough and the overall taste and presentation bland. Wine and coffee were enjoyable. Wait staff were friendly and accommodating.

Went for dinner last night in there. The Restaurant itself is lovely and has a nice charm to it.We started with the frogs legs and the Warmed Potato Salad which were both delicious. Then after a lot of confusion from our waitress we got our steaks which were not done to our desire. Instead of medium steaks we got 2 very well done pieces of meat so we sent them back. Our Waitress then explained to us that it was the grill they used and our steaks were actually supposed to resemble charcoal?! I have to say though that the waitresses did everything they could to make it up to us and were very attentive. However the Hostess did not show the attitude.

I ate at Hugo's lastnight. The restaurant has a brilliant atmosphere - a real buzz. It was very busy for a Wednesday night and I loved the decor. However I have had much better food elsewhere in the city. I had the crispy duck to start - which was very greasy. The blossom for main course was quite bland, although the chorizo mash was good. My friend had the salmon which was very good. I had the tarte tatin for dessert and I couldn't decipher whether it was apple or pear! The pistachio ice cream was good though. Service was mixed - our waitress was lovely but neither the manageress or the assistant manager were very friendly! One of us had three courses, the other had 2 with coffee, and with one glass of wine and two bottles of water the bill came to about €85 without service.

I went for dinner here on Friday night. Considering this has only newly opened, it is doing great business. It was packed and more people were coming in through the evening to see if there was any free tables (there weren't). The atmosphere is great along with the decor. The food was delightful. I had the chicken liver to start which was divine. I then had the duck for mains which was cooked to perfection, and I must say I ordered a side order of hand cut fries and they probably are the best I ever tasted. The desserts are gorgeous, I had the brownie and my date had the chocolate mousse, both lovely! The service is really good, the staff were so friendly and it was very reasonable in comparison to what you would pay in other places in Dublin. Definitely recommend it to anyone.

Had dinner in Hugo's last week and really enjoyed it. The confit of duck was delicious as was the St. Tola Goats cheese and potato salad. Mains were also delicious- tenderloin of pork and Blossom fish. Would drive across Ireland for the Crème Brulee and crawl on my hands and knees for the chocolate brownie!!!! Great value also and highly recommended. Book a table fast because soon you won't be able to get one!

Hugo's has just opened - We had lunch here last week. The service is excellent - a really lovely waitress. Really good lunch menu - reasonable prices and great selection. We tried out pretty much the whole dessert menu - really good. Presentation was excellent. Only quibble was that the steak was a little tough. We will definitely be going back!
