Went here with a menupages voucher and had a very nice time. The place was almost full, looked like most people were also on a voucher deal. The food, atmosphere and service were all good, so sounds like there been improvements since Xmas.

Very disappointed with my experience here. Five of us came here, using a voucher which I had bought for my parents (for two). After ordering two starters, one came 15 minutes later and the other came 10 minutes after that. Main course was fine. Sticky toffee pudding and chocolate ganache turned out to be the exact same thing in different flavours. When asked could she heat up the cold cup of coffee we had ordered, the waitress held the cup to her hand and looked at us as though to say 'you think this is cold?' So much for the customer is always right! The most disappointing part of the meal was that every little thing was charged for - the veg to accompany the steak and the sauce to go with it. Then, the voucher was taken for the two cheapest meals even though the two people who owned the voucher bought a steak and pizza. Overall, very disappointing.

A large group of us went for dinner here for an Xmas party. While we had a nice private room to ourselves, the restaurant was virtually empty, on a Saturday night during the height of party season. The food was very average and overly simple. I had: cold chicken salad to start. The chicken resembled the pre-packed cooked pieces found in supermarkets; salmon for mains which was cooked well but was ruined by a big dollop of BBQ sauce served with it - bizarre. Dessert was baileys cheesecake, which tasted of margarine. Service was ok, staff seemed inexperienced. When the bill came, we were shocked at the price per head, only then to discover that we had been charged for double the amount of wine - 20 bottles instead of 10. The waitress barely acknowledged the mistake and said the til had mis-caculated. It took forever to sort out and ruined our meal somewhat. Was here recently on a deal also and found our server to be rude and unfriendly. I used to come here alot but certainly will not be returning again.

Went here with a citydeal. Tried to book and they said they didnt have any tables, but was told to check in later. We did and found out the place was nearly empty. Our Waitress was so unfriendly, never cracked a smile. We both had the caprese salad to start, which was fabulous, fresh pesto was fantastic. I had the gnochi for mains and I really enjoyed it, the sauce was really good and fresh. My partner had the chicken and mango salad with cous cous, she really enjoyed it. All in all the food was really good and had a decent enough choice for the vegeterians. Good selection of wines as well, I have a Chilean Sauvignon blanc and my friend had a pinot grigio, we both really enjoyed. Only criticism was the unfriendly and unwelcoming service. Would consider returning.

4 in group visited on meal deal offer, v reasonable for 2 courses & 1 glass of prosecco. Starters were nice, soup, spicy chicken salad (v spicy) but the prawns were not good. Main was a grilled chicken, couscous & sald, but disappointly only the chicken was hot, the couscous was cold which made it very dry to eat with the salad -no sauces. Banoffi desert was stale. Waitresses were v young & pleasant but very in-experienced, didn't know whent to take orders, never asked about food etc. While the meal deal was very cheap, so expectations were not high, i would not return.

we went there with voucher for one starter and one main and one glass of wine. It is a very small restaurant and t was quite empty on a Sat evening. The starter prawn salad was grand, 5 prawns with a small handful salad. The salmon was good, but really it was only a tiny slim piece.. and the steak was pretty awfully cooked. Overall, its just an okay place and defo wont go back.

I'd been meaning to pop in here for a long time, so in we went Friday lunch to cheer us up from the weather - sooo disappointed!! We were seated & proceeded to wait 10mins for menus had to call someones attention - itself a task to get noticed! the glasses of wine were poured at the table - all to diff levels?! Fish cakes to start had been deep fried & were mostly potato, i'd the special chicken which turned out to be a chiken wrap - not as was described to me - was tasy tho, the pizzas were like rubber - tasted like the frozen variety - bland... all in all a waste of money and time coming here I wont return.

Had a late Saturday lunch here with a friend. Had been looking forward to trying here for a while but it did not live up to my very high expectations. It was fine, service was friendly, the wine was excellent, but the place was very empty and the food was fairly standard fare like you'd make at home. With so many other places I've been that I preferred, I don't know if I would go back.

Visited here for our Xmas party where we had opted for the €50 set menu. I hadn’t been here before so thought the setup of the restaurant was really nice. We had a cocktail on arrival, Cosmo and then the wine was flowing throughout the meal. For starters I had the spring rolls, I really hat ketchup so was disappointed to have a ketchup mix on the side of my plate. For mains I ordered Salmon with mash, when I tasted the salmon it was far warmer than the mash so I had asked for the mash to be warmed up, I was disappointed that when I got my salmon back the piece that I had cut out had been smothered in BBQ sauce to disguise that it was the same salmon, on a plus the Salmon and Mash was tasty minus the BBQ sauce which is an odd addition. For dessert I had crumble which could only be served with ice cream no fresh cream was available.

I went to George's wine bar for lunch with some work colleagues. The set-up and atmosphere of the place is really nice as are the waiters. We all ordered and ended up having to wait 45mins to receive our meals which is unacceptable for a lunch order. I had the chicken avocado which was ok. Nothing special or to rave about. Wasn't that well priced either. Don't think I'll be going back soon.

Had dinner here Fri evening with 2 friends. First time here for all of us. Menu came on sheets of coloured A4 paper. 2 tables occupied when we arrived. There appeared to be a hallway leading from the restuarant into the back of the guest house & peole were using it to access the accommodation. We got the impression we were in a hostel. We all skipped starters as very limited selection. 2 of us ordered nassi for main course. A very small portion with about 5 tiny pieces of chicken arrived, and the chilli sauce supposed to be served on the side was literally daubed on the rim of the dish it was in!!! I told the waitress the presentation was terrible and food not good at all. This dish was €15 - reasonable if it had remotely resembled the description. The 3 of us skipped dessert as the experience left us most unhappy. The chef needs to check out the ingredients in Nassi or else change the name of the dish.

I find this place can be a bit hit and miss but I met some friends for lunch here and I was actually quite impressed with it. The food was good, the service was polite and it was good value. I had the smoked salmon starter with baby potato salad and it was really tasty and the portion size was plenty for me for lunch.

We paid a visit to George’s bistro recently for lunch. We have passed here a several times and wanted to try it and we were glad we did. The menu promised good value from the outset. There were three in our party, for starters we had fish cakes, smoked salmon with new potatoes and chicken salad, all got the thumbs up very fresh lovely flavours and presented well. For our mains we had gnocchi with prawns, chicken with avocado salad and beef tomato stuffed with cous cous this was particularly good, the last main was chicken and pasta dish with red pesto. All meals met we high approval, the service was excellent food delicious and good value with three glasses of wine the cost was 65.00 Euro not a bad price for a good lunch we will be back.

Turning off Nassua St. we seen a sign for the "cheapest lunch in town" as we headed for George's for Lunch with a large group (approx 20). On entering, we were taking to our table (in the back - thought we were heading for the kitchen), where we had a private area for our group. Menu was good value at first glance, and portions relatively good for the price. Between as all, we tried most things on the menu, and everybody was happy! As starters were all 4Euro, some opted for the soup, personally i went for the chicken parcels. Tasty! The mains ranged from 9 to 12Euro, again not bad. Pork was my option of choice and I was happy. As for desert, it was difficult to choose, but the chocolate lava was the final decision. Once again, it dot fail to hit the spot. Overall, a nice lunch and good value!

I had dinner here on a Thursday evening. The menu provided adequate selection. The Fish cakes were deep fried fish in batter with salad- slightly disappointing. The main -Paella was very tasty with ample amounts of prawn and mussels. The wait staff were extremely attentive and polite. The restaurant itself was very cold on the evening that i was there. Good value for money.

Nice wines & deserts. Staff are welcoming & attentive. All in all its a reliable spot and we'll always return

Had a lovely evening here last night with two other people. In terms of ambience George's wine bar did well to employ the classical spanish guitar player. Wait staff were perfectly friendly and efficient and sorted out a little mix up we had with the wine (just be aware that the offer of a free bottle of wine is not necessarily for ANY wine on the list, so ask first). We ordered a bottle of NZ Sauvignon blanc, yum. The 2 starters we ordered were fine, but I did think they looked rather small on the plate. Two of us had paella which was delicious and the special of the day panfried haddock with vegetables was nicely done. An extra two glasses of wine later, we all had coffees and demolished the pear and almond tart with icecream. It all came to €116, but with the fantastic offer of a free bottle of wine worth up to €30 (with every two 2 course dinners) we only paid €86! All in all good value and very pleasent experience.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time here.I went with a friend on a whim one Tuesday spurred by the street sign at the top of the road declaring great food and even better value. I wouldn’t usually adhere to this type of signage but for once it was dead right! The fish course was delicious as was the mash and salsa verde that accompanied it. So good was it, that I attempted to make it myself that weekend! The staff were pleasant and attentive and the wine was of good quality considering the low price. I would definitely return.

We were on an active best value mission & chose Georges Bistro based on the fantastic Menupages offer of a free bottle of wine with two courses ordered. It was a gamble which more than paid off as we had a fantastic night. The two ladies working the floor were very friendly and like whirlwinds as they coped with a full service. We decided to skip the starters and have mains and dessert & after some horse-trading, I chose sirloin steak while the Husband opted for the pork. I drank a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc and himself had bottles of Heineken. After a short interval, our mains arrived & the waitress asked me to check my steak to make sure it was medium as requested. Whoops - it was as well done as possible and went straight back to the kitchen. I also mentioned that I was not a fan of peppers (which featured in the seasonal veg) and she told me she'd change that at the same time. While I was waiting for a new steak, I snaffled my fair share of the Husband's pork. It was absolutely gorgeous, with a delicious jus, caramelised apple, fine beans and sauteed potatoes When steak returned, it was perfect and accompanied by the same potatoes and a mixture of green beans, mushrooms, courgettes and red onion. After a suitable interval, we opted for banoffi pie and chocolate orange cheesecake. The banoffi was the winner here, with lots of very fresh banana. The cheesecake needs adjusting as there was very little evidence of either chocolate or orange in this dessert. Our total bill, once the wine had been deducted, came to a recession-busting €55 excl. service. It was a great meal, with very friendly service and we will definitely return.

We used to eat here regularly. Some time ago they extended the premises and also built on a 'garden type' area. The standard of food has dropped and on our visit the fish cake starters were extremely dissapointing. My friend's soup was nice however. The fish and chicken main courses were only adequate. The biggest weakness was the service which has continued to deteriorateover a few visits. It seems the kitchen is unable to cope with the larger restaurant. I think progress has done it a disservice.

Had lunch with a friend here today. Pretty empty even at 1.10 pm although a few more people arrived to add a bit of atmosphere. Service was pleasant and ultra fast. For starters, I had the fish cakes which were tasty and my friend had the gyoza chicken which seemed a bit bland (and skimpy). I had the sea trout and my friend had the Nasi Goreng both of which were quite tasty and filling. We finished with cappuccinos, all for €16 a head. For a nice lunch in pleasant surroundings and good service it would be hard to beat that for value. While it wouldn't set the house on fire, I think the owner has the right idea for lunchtime diners in a bit of a hurry and I'll be adding it to my list of restaurant choices.

Just had lunch here today. Ordered the "fish cakes" and the "nasi goreng" Firstly the fishcakes tasted like rubber chicken in batter the size of a jam jar lid and as thin. the so called nasi goreng was just saffron rice, with strips of carrot, with a few prawns thrown in. with 3 dots of "chilli sauce" it was completely tasteless. the location, decor and staff are fab but the food is inexcusably bad. A child could cook better. would definitely not recommend. V cheap tho! Never returning!

We were seated in a room where we had to walk through kitchens and a smoking area to access. Completly unacceptable with the purpose of the smoking ban to prevent passive smoking (you had to pass through the smoking area to get to the toilets each time). Although the food was very tasty and our waitress was extremly nice we had one girl serving 16 people, again ridiculous, half of our Christmas party were served before the other half leaving 8 very hungry peolpe weaiting whilst we tucked in, a bit embarrassing to say the least. Would definately recommend for food and price but not for seating arrangements or lack of staff.

This was one of my many visits to George's Bistro /Wine Bar. Although it has been over a year since I was there last. We ordered wine, it came to the table ice cold. Being red wine, this wasn't good. We asked why it was so cold, and the waitress snapped and said it was normal and it was down to the cold weather. Being a wine bar you would think they would have better facilities for storing wine. We ordered our food and when it arrived, it looked boring. I got fishcakes and my friends got soup, pasta and another same as me. The fish cakes were horrible, small little discs or previously fried tasteless fish and batter. Which we reheated before serving to us. I didn't eat mine it was that bad. Soup and pasta were ok, but nothing special. Mains, pork was bland, and everyone else's dishes were quite poor. Less said, cant be bothered describing reheated food. The experience was going downhill, being one of my friends 40th birthday we were trying to make the most of it. We chose this restaurant because we had been their on many occasions and really enjoyed it. The staff were rude, well one in particular, the rest were pleasant. When we were ordering a second bottle of wine we asked if there was any other wine the was not cold. Different waitress expalined again it was down to weather, and that she could place a bottle in the kitchen to take the chill from it. Nice gesture, but it still came back cold. The bottle itself had condensation on it, it was that cold. Very dissapointing. We ate as quickly as possible, paid and left. Didn't complain, we were too disappointed. Just left knowing we will never return. We went on elsewhere, seen as we were still hungry because we couldn't finish our food. We ordered some finger food from the wine bar, enjoyed wine at the right temperature, even though it was cold outside. If you're thinking of going here, think twice. In my opinion fast food is better, more consistant, fresh and better value for money.

Had a meal here on November 18. Found it good value for money! Nothing particularily outstanding but good food a reasonable price! All 3 of us enjoyed the meal. Wine a little dearer than the norm. Venue a little cramped but good athmosphere. The Fish cakes we had as a started was dissapointing. Steak was good! Will return!

I was here with my wife last nite having heard great reviews about it from my friends. Georges Wine Bar definitely is up there with my favourite restaurants in Dublin. We chose Fish Cakes & Chicken Pastries for the starters. My wife chose the Seafood option while I went for the Pasta Da Firenze. Both meals were excellent. For the desert we sampled the Chocolate Lava & Chocolate Orange Cheesecake. Both deserts were truly amazing. Throughout the evening the staff were very friendly & professional in their manner when serving us. I for one will definitely be back with more guests the next time. Keep up the good work. Vincenzo

Myself and my partner recently dined in this restaurant after being intrigued by the menu. On entering the restaurant we found the place to be empty bar one table, not always a good sign. We opted to sit in the courtyard which was a lovely spacious area and nice to sit out for a change. We decided to order just main courses, the waitress was nice and didn't hesitate to take our order however, our drinks did not arrive till after our food was served. Considering the restaurant was empty, not very efficient! The meal was nothing special, lacked flavour and imagination and to be honest left us both hungry. It's safe to say that we will not be returning to this restaurant in the near future.

Went here last Friday and sat out on the terrace. Lovely atmosphere and really nice waiters/waitresses...it was very romantic with lots of candles everywhere and we used the menupages voucher to get a free bottle of prosecco, which was lovely. Unfortunately the food was very plain, pasta overcocked etc and I hostely could have cooked a better meal myself ...so for atmosphere it was lovely but the food was not great!

Went there last Friday, only got the chance now to say how good it was. Group of us, about 10, nearly everyone had the earlybird menu, even though we started to arrive at six, didn't all get there till well after 7 but no problem. I and the chap beside had the pork and it was absolutely DELICIOUS ! And for only 10 euro. Yes, 10 euro. Tasted as if it should cost double and prepared to perfection with tasty vegetables and superb baby potatoes. Excellent. The Chicken Wonton starter is to die for. Service was quick and friendly but never pushy - a thoroughly enjoyable evening !! I am recommending the place to all !

I had the misfortune of having lunch here today. I joined my companions late as I had been delayed. They had finished lunch so I decided just to have a main course. The special fish course of the day was Ray with herb butter and sauteed baby potatoes - I elected to go for that. When it arrived I started to eat it but was overwhelmed by the taste of salt rather than fish. I took another piece just to assure myself that it wasn't just that particular piece of the fish that had been over salted. No, it was the whole thing. I called a very nice waitress over and explained that it was ruined with salt and I said I would take a different dish in its place. A few minutes later a different waitress approached and said that as i had started to eat the dish I would be expected to pay for this and the subsequent dish. I explained that the fish was inedible because of the salt and I cancelled my second order. I was then confronted by a very irate man who, in an extremely aggressive manner proceeded at the top of his voice to tell me that 18 previous diners had had no issue with the fish - hardly the point. When I started to respond he became more aggressive and agitated, and ordered me out with the addendum, "not to come back here again" He need not worry, I won't. i have eaten in restaurants all over the world and I have never experienced this level of rudeness and arrogance - the fish had been badly cooked and completely ruined in the process. George’s should remember the customer is always right.

Response:
Well Mr Murphy, i only came across your response by accident and I must say I am impressed by your rewriting of history and of the customer service principle that the customer is always right. I have read a few more of the posted reviews and it looks like my experience of poor quality food and service is more the norm than the exception. Yes, you are correct fish does come from the sea but it doesn't cover itself in salt during the cooking process, your chef did that. The fact that 18 diners had no complaint is irrelevant, I wasn't eating their lunch. I ate two bites of the fish which probably did constitute half given that the portion was "compact" to be polite. I was neither rude to the server or to the supervisor and as for manners, well i can only refer to your shouting across the restaurant as an indication of your own behaviour and lack of decorum. We left the restaurant at your insistance and won't return ever. I have told my story to so many people that I'm sure we have persuaded many to follow our example and give your particular brand of customer service a wide berth.

Having heard good things from friends we decided to give George's wine bar a try for dinner. Firstly when I reserved the table I asked what time the early bird menu finished. I was told 7.30pm. When we arrived at 7pm we were offered the other menu, which to be fair was inexpensive so we didn't mind. We decided not go go for starters, but to go straight to main course. Unfortunately, though inexpensive the food was bland, tasteless and unexciting. It tasted like it had been pre-cooked and frozen. This is a perfect example of where "good value" means that the ingredients are compromised on. The service was pleasant if slow and the venue is nice. I will not be returning however. There are several nicer places in Dublin which are better value and offer better ingredients.

Dined here on a Saturday for lunch. The service was good, the waitresses being very friendly, and menus, food and drinks came very promptly yet we did not feel rushed. Myself and my partners had two starters and two main courses. Starters were very nicely presented and both delicious. Our mains, slightly light on portion size, left a little more to be desired. I would consider them slightly above average, my Indonesian dish being somewhat tasteless. My partners pork was a better choice being tender and moist but again just lacking that something special. While I am a fan of trying new dishes, the menu relies on a small number of quite eclectic choices and could do with offering a few more "ordinary" dishes. The restaurant setting is relaxed with a nice atmosphere. It is almost possible to forget you are in Dublin City Centre by sitting in the terrace which is nicely confined from the busy streets. Overall, Georges Wine Bar is a good choice for an impromptu meal but needs something a little more to put it in my top ten.

Myself and four girlfriends came here on a Tuesday night after work. We took advantage of the value menu which is €4.5 for a starter and €10 for a main (apart from the fish of the day which is €13.50). We all loved our starters and also our mains as well. I got the fish which was cod and it was absolutely delicious. We then shared the cheesecake which was lovely, not rich at all like some cheesecakes can be. There were not many people in the restaurant which is why we felt very bad when we were chatting away for hours. Even though we were holding up the staff, since we were the last ones in the restaurant, they didnt mind one bit. Will be back!

Very disappointing value meal - 2 courses for 2 + wine for €45. The food was very basic, without the wine I would have felt cheated at €5 for starter and €10 for main

Went here with lunch with a friend last week. Was recommended by a friend because the lunch was such good value. We both had the vegetarian burger option which was a wild rice in sauce with a brie topping. It was absolutely gorgeous and we had coffee afterwards, great atmosphere, value and service, though I feel its a shame they stopped their menu points voucher for 30 euro offf a la carte menu and changed it for free bottle of wine, the previous offer was much better.

Service was appaling... waited 45 mins on my lunch break for my course which never turned up... when I questioned it explaining I needed to return to lunch they went off to check and never returned with an explanation after waiting another 10 mins and seeing the tables that were in after get served. We went to leave after complaining to the supersvisor who didnt care and suggested we only had another 5-10mins to get our course quite frosty... I have eaten here before service was slow then also...Would not reccommend it based on service alone, and I will not return

Went here for dinner on a Saturday night. There is a good selection of food at reasomable prices. I had the asparagus for starters which were good. My boyfriend had the chicken wontons which were okay. He had ordered a steak done medium but when it came out it was almost raw. We called the waitress over and asked if it could be just put under the grill just for a couple of minutes each side. We then waited and waited and waited. I was waiting to start my main course until his arrived and by the time it arrived at least 20 minutes later mine was freezing. They had done a whole new plate but he had only asked for it to be done an extra couple of minutes so the evening had been ruined slightly by the main course but overall it was good.

Popped in here for a quick catch-up with a friend - perfect spot for it, and handy location to boot! While the atmosphere feels a bit corporate for the menu, the selection of starters and mains give a good range to please anyone. The chicken wontons and chicken sliders did the trick for respective starters, while the sea trout for mains was top notch for both of us. With a nice NZ Sauvignon blanc to round things off, the bill was very reasonable at €60 for 2 of us.

Ate here last nite with a couple of friends and it was super. Great value - we had 2 starters plus 2 mains plus bottle of wine for €45. As well as another main from the early bird menu. Food was great - I particularly enjoyed my main of the pasta of the day (chorizo, green beans and tomato sauce on penne). Starters were very small but enjoyable. And the wine was good. Would recommend it for a visit.

had lunch here with some friends and we all agreed it was good value. Food is priced well but the wine is a little more expensive than the norm, house wine starts at 23 euro whereas I think the average now is 18. Food was good but service a little slow especially as we were the only ones there for a while. We had one waitress for table of 8 and would have thought it a good idea if one of the other waitresses gave a hand with drinks instead of standing around. Overall though would probably go back as good value for money and very central location.

Went to George's Wine Bar last night for the early bird menu. Had the Asian Prawns for starter - portion size was small, three prawns with a small salad - tasty but definitely not filling. For main course choose the Nasi Goreng - really good, excellent flavours - hot + spicy, but not too hot and generous portion size. The only off putting part of the Nasi Goreng was the fried egg on top - which I forgot to notice when I read the menu - but definitely didn't spoil an excellent main course. For dessert decided on the Baileys cheesecake - appearance really appetising, slightly dry, but the plate was cleared once again ! Ordered an Americano - which never appeared. Overall service was very good - although it felt like a very long wait between the starter and the main course - would definitely visit again for both food and atmosphere.

Went to Georges for dinner on Tuesday night. It was a special night so I really wanted to take them somewhere with good atmosphere and great food. Oonce again, George’s proved to be a restaurant willing to ensure the customer has a great experience. The hospitality shown to myself and my four guests was exceptional and it is great to be able to say that five people can enjoy a meal and where everyone is happy at the end of the night with the food, the wine and the service. I would highly recommend this restaurant and if you are going, make sure you leave the car at home because they have an amazing wine list. Thank you to all the staff at George’s, especially the Chef for the best meal I have had out in ages and we will, as always, definitely be back soon.

Went in last week with a friend for the early bird deal. I was more than impressed with the place. The staff was friendly, attentive with good knowledge of the menu and wines. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. I loved the suggested wine. Excellent and well priced wine list. All this being said, after two main courses, one bottle of wine and a shared dessert the bill was ONLY €57.Perfect place for a date or a catch up with friends. I will definitely return!

I often eat at Georges Wine Bar and was back again last Thursday with a friend. We sat out on the fabulous warm terrace and yet again enjoyed good food at amazing value :-) Lovely to hear some live music (guitar player) to add to the ambience. I love going to Georges particularly as the often change the menu so I get to often try different things. I love the cozy atmosphere and good food. Would highly recommend!

I booked the early bird for a friend's birthday. There were 6 of us instead of the 5 i had booked for and we were accommodated without any fuss. 3 of us ordered the chicken wontons to start and everything was going well until my friend found what looked like a piece of glass in her rice. The embarrassed waiter said the chef didn't know how this happened as no glass was broken in the kitchen, apologised and offered my friend another starter. Needless to say she didn't want another one. We spoke to the Manager who phoned the owner and offered to deduct the drinks we had ordered at this point from the bill. She said that it wasn't a piece of glass but plastic and they needed to contact their suppliers to see how this could have happened. The main courses all went down very well. But i was disappointed with the waiter's response and if we hadn't asked for the manager we would not have been recompensed. It's just not good enough and especially in these times we need to complain when things aren't up to scratch.

We ate here recently because of the Menupages Voucher and were very unimpressed! We only ordered one starter between us (crab & smoked salmon) which was very flavourless, and a main course each (duck & burger). The noodles with the duck were all clumped together like a big ball of goo which I had to chop up into blocks to eat! And when the burger arrived on the table the ciabatta bun was black! I kid you not! It was completely burnt and was inedible. When the waitress came over half way through the meal to ask if everything was ok I told her the burger bun was burnt to a crisp...but everyone knew that before serving it to us as it was clearly visible on the plat'..she said 'oh' and smiled and walked away to serve someone else! We actually laughed as we knew this meal was not going to cost us much, but if I had to pay full price it would have probably been the only place I would have complained strongly about the food. We left asap after finishing the main and went elsewhere for dessert!!! Couldn't get out of there quick enough! Ps. we ate here on a Saturday night and the place was very noisy and there was no music so you could hear every table's conversations...awful meal.

This was my 3rd time in George wine Bar , I went there last thursday for with a couple of mates from Sweden. The place was quiet with only one couple in side I have to say that one of the male waiters was good but the rest of the staff leave a lot to be desired.i don't mean to be rude but the whole experience went from bad to worse. The first worrying thing was the fact that the glass of wine was so stingy i could hardly get 5 sips out of it. My starter i got the salmon which was absolutely excruciating to eat and look at it was so dry and looked like it had been left out for a day before it came to the table. The mains where edible, however the whole experience was a little bizzare and the atmosphere very clumsy as you could overhear what looked like the management complaining to staff both about customers and about the staff performance. I think that there needs to be a major change of attitude in all areas so as to improve the whole food service in the resturaunt. Will never in a million years go there again

Came here with a menu pages offer. We just had a mains course and ordered very soon after arriving but waited an hour or more before getting our meal. There were only 2 other couples in the place so was not run over. We didnt mind too much as we had a voucher but we would not have paid the €24 (full price) for what we had. We could have cooked steaks at home for that and more... if you are going to dine out these days you will pay for something special or else you want value for money and Im afraid neither was evident here.

Went here on a Friday night and the place was reasonably full so the atmosphere was comfortable with nice lighting- had the shrimp to start which was nice, a little small, four pieces for 8 euro! For main course I had a chicken dish wish baked mashed potatoes and mushrooms in a really amazing creamy sauce- I absolutely loved it. My boyfriend had a trout dish with a creamy sauce and wild rice, he thought it was delicious. Portions were a good size so we had no room for dessert- thanks to our menupages voucher the bill only set us back 12 euro! We left a generous tip to make up for it as the service was the friendliest I've ever had in Dublin and very efficient.

Came here for lunch yesterday. Was not very impressed with the choice. Main courses 10 euro and that includes a coffee/tea afterwards. Had the sea trout and mash which tasted fine but was not very big. If you were hungry beforehand, you would not be satisfied afterwards. But if it's a light lunch then it's fine. It's ok value for money.

Uh oh - things are slipping in George's. The set price lunch menu has gone so prices are up - still good value at €10 for a main course, but not as competitive as previously. Service was less attentive than normal but that could be bad luck on the day. The major change was the food, Both of us had sea trout on a carrot and potato mash with pesto. I have never seen so much green oil on a plate - really off-putting. The fish was perfectly cooked but ruined by the oil and an oversweet mash. Very disappointing.

Wonderful place for a light meal, a nice drink... and most importantly a decent Cigar! It gets a big thumbs up from me for being one of the very few places in Dublin that caters for cigar smokers, and they do it very well. Lovely big cigar ash-trays in the "outside" area (not that you can tell you are outside!). Food is good, service is great. Wine and spirit list is excellent although beer is a little thin on the ground. The potential for good atmosphere is there, just wish more people frequented the place.

Went in with 2 friends for the early bird deal. Had heard good things from friends about the restaurant, but unfortunately we were very dissappointed. The restaurant was empty, never a good sign. the staff were polite and attentive. The biggest downfall was the food. The starters were mean portion wise, the salads lacking any dressing whatsoever. The main courses were served luke warm to cold, we complained and got them reheated. The trout was average, the chicken bland, the sauce accompanying it tasted like it came out of a packet. My vegetarian taglitelle had a measley half pepper, 3 slices of courgette and a few pieces of onion. No flavour whatsoever. It was the worst meal I have ever had. Would suggest that people go elsewhere for proper value for money and quality cooking.

Came here for dinner on Friday night, using our menupages voucher which was great! Overall the food was just ok. Had an amazing smoked salmon and crab starter, but the chicken wontons, shrimp and chorizo and burger were all very average. Place was nicely decorated, but they had awful LED table lights instead od real candles, that screamed cheap. Bill came to 75, with our menupages only 45 - which was a great deal, but without the voucher I would have been a little disappointed for the quality of food we got. Would go again for the smoked salmon alone though - would just try different mains.

I had lunch in the "cellar and wine bar" part of George's Bistro. It is small, but very comfortable and relaxing. It appears quite removed from the bustling city above and you can nearly forget you are in the city centre. Especially when there is the value for money to be considered! All of what is on offer is less than €10. There were four in my party and we probably sampled half themenu between us. Vegetable soup with a surprisingly dashing salad was a winner, although it was served with no bread. This posed little problem though, as the delicious homemade burger came served on a massive ciabatta, so the bread was divvied up for general consumption. The fish in beer batter was served with the most delicious homemade chips...they reminded me of how my mam used to make them back in the day...such a welcome change from the processed variety that is offered by too many places these days. The chicken breast was the final dish, nice and lean. It was a very enjoyable and relaxed hour and a half and would not hesitate to go there again.

Have visited both upstairs and downstairs part of Georges Bistro for lunch in the last couple of weeks. Both occasions the food has been lovely, service excellent and price has been very reasonable. Would reccomend upstairs for the more formal lunch and downstairs for when you are looking to have a couple of beers with the guys.

We went here a lot during the summer time for lunch and found the service really slow. We ventured back again when across the road was too full to accomodate us and have to say its a good little spot! The food portions are excellent and quality superb at excellent value for money. There seems to be too many staff in the main salon who tend to hover in the corner which doesn't help the already lacking atmosphere. That said, its a great place to meet people for a catch up as its not as noisy as other lunch spots in town.

I have had breakfast and lunch here both very nice. Breakfast they do not encourage as they provide for Trinity Lodge residents across they way. Only problem is on occasion the staff has a lower level of english and not very experienced in the restaurant/service industry. Most are relaly great but we had a prob once and they never got the owner/manager when requested nicely who is on site most of the time and is very helpful and nice. I think a bit more staff training coulds help here and maybe a native english speaking manager/head wait staff to oversee this. I have had lovely lunches here as a group for work and with a friend. The outside section is lovely in the summer for lunch or an after work drink and do try it. heated and covered too! Try the pasta at lunch

It was my bf's grad and I was in charge of chosing a place for dinner for the whole family.. I think I nailed it with this place. The service was remarkable, real nice and helpful, very very nice!! We had a reservation on the heated terrace and have to say it was freezing outside but were were so warm and cosy inside. I was disappointed they didn't have Gazpacho as it states menupages, but have to admit is more of a summer dish, so went for the asparagus with hollandaise sauce that were delicious and the swordfish for main course, the fish was exquisite and so was the garnish with mango, great combination. My bf had the set menu and picked soup of the day that was very tasty and the chicken with tomato sauce which was also a popular choice from all the invites and they all absolutely loved it. Wine, picked an inexpensive french white wine that was delicious. I would definitely go back there alone with the bf.. so we can enjoy a romantic dinner in the terrace, which is an great environment!!

I have eaten here a few times before and thought that it was good value for money and that the standard of food was quite high. After last night, I will never eat there again. My friend and I both ordered the same starter and main course. We started with smoked salmon on potato salad. It like looked and tasted like a strange mixture from a can and there was hardly any salmon in it. I didn't know what to make of it. The worst was our main course. We had ordered pork and porcini mushrooms. It was very badly presented, like slop thrown onto a plate and it didn't look appetizing at all. We told three different members of staff that we were unhappy with it but they didn't offer an alternative. They just said that they were sorry to hear it and walked away. The mains were added to our bill at the end even though we didn't eat them. We asked to speak to a supervisor and she was most unhelpful. She only offered to remove one main from our bill when neither of us ate our main course. The level of customer service in Georges Wine Bistro is terrible. If we had been fairly treated I would go back and give it another chance. We left starving but were lucky to get a table in another restaurant nearby where we had a lovely meal.

I went here recently for lunch, there was 16 of us, nice atmosphere as it was a Tuesday it was quiet. Starter was nice, I went for the sea trout, although it tasty nice it was bordering on cold. Nice wine, staff very pleasant, service was quick but was let down when we ordered coffees that either didn't arrive or simply took a while, lovely lunch will give it a go for dinner also. Great value for money.

Went here on a Friday night, about 6.30 so it was quite quiet, didn't have a reservation so got a table in the outside smoking terrace, which, for November, was quite well heated. We ordered off the set menu, which seemed to have more appealing dishes than the a la carte, despite being only 17.50 each for 3 courses. We both had chicken broth to start which was pretty unremarkable and didn't have much chicken but was by no means unpleasant. I had lamb medallions in porcini sauce (read: gravy) with what they called broken potatoes (this was a nice cross between mash and roast, i presume partially roasted and then mashed potatoes). A lovely bottle of Gavi di Gavi wine, which accounted for more than half of the bill, again accentuating the value of the food. Would definitely visit again.

I went her the other night for the first and probably the last time. The restaurant itself was lovely and the staff were very attentive. The thing that lets this place down is the food. I started with a cauliflower and carrot soup and it really wasn't nice at all. I can't believe that the chef tasted the soup and thought it was ok to send out. One of our group sent back his shrimp starter. The main course options were fairly bland and not presented very well at all. I don't think I've ever left so much food uneaten. I had the baileys cheescake for dessert but I think they forgot to use any baileys. The wine list was ok and reasonably priced, it's just a shame about the food.

we were here for dinner yesterday. The atmosphere was very nice- contemporary clean design yet has the romantic feel. our friend order the steak, it was thick & chunky but for the price of 28 euro we thought it was overpriced. we order the set dinner which costs 17.95 euro, we were a bit dissapointed as the selection wasn't as many as other restaurants can offer. My starter was shrimp salad with 4 shrimps and some spinach leaves, my seatrout as maincourse was really avarage, nothing to shout about. The bailey desert cheesecake was yummy though. the waitresses though friendly were inexperienced. also we had to wait for about 20 mins for the starter to come (there were only 3 tables), and further 20 mins for mains after finishing the starter.

The worst meal I have had in a long time -I was here with three friends for the early bird about 4 weeks back. I had the broth soup (it was more like flavoured water), and i had pasta with mozarella for my main, the pasta was luke warm and the mozarella freezing. My friend had a veggi burger which she had to ask them to reheat as it was completely cold and my other friend had risotto, which was tasteless. We will never go back as it was awful.

Used a menu pages voucher here. I was glad to have it and I thought it was quite expensive. Food very good, service excellent, very pleasant helpful staff, There is a good value menu available in the area just inside the basement entrance which I will next time eg fish n chips, burger etc.

As I work nearby, this is a very handy option for a cheap but comfortable lunch. The food isn't great but at €13 for 2 courses plus coffee, it's hard to complain! The quality/price ratio reminds me of what you can expect in a French bistro at midday in any Parisian suburb. I went along today with a friend -okay shrimp salad - shrimps a little tough but nice fresh spinach leaves and pieces of fresh mango followed by a smoked salmon pasta which was good. Best of all, being a smoker, we got a table outdoors which was warm and relaxing. Nice service too. It would be great to see other city centre restaurants replicating this formula and upping the food quality stakes.

Went for lunch with some work colleagues but service and food were very poor. It was busy, which is a good sign but I put this down to the value of the place. I has beetroot soup which had carrot, potato, green beans, onion and tomoto but not much beetroot. It was a thin, pretty disgusting vegetable broth and I let most of it. My beef arrived - it was OK but it was rare (pink) and I was never asked how I would like it. It was served with some mashed potato and a handful of tired rocket. Not good value - not for what we got. It's fancy pub grub with slow service.

I went to george's for dinner about a week ago and had the set dinner menu for €17.95. The staff were very friendly. The bread basket that was brought out was stale though and when I asked what the apple pie came with it came with nothing which I thought was a bit cheap to be honest as a little bit of cream would not go amiss!! So I had to order a small bit of ice cream to go with it and got charged for it. I know the menu is good value but sometimes the little things can make a big difference. However my broccoli soup and my fish main course were lovely!!

I visited this restaurant on a Friday night with some friends. I have been here before for lunch and dinner and each time received excellent service and lovely food. However, this visit was slightly disappointing. The scallops for starters were lovely but my main course of rib eye was very disappointing. A huge slab of meat with no texture, taste or flavour was presented on a bed of mash. It was a much lower standard to previous meals I have eaten there. We sat in the patio outside which has a lovely atmosphere. Overall, I found the visit simply average.

I swing between three and four stars on George's. Came here on tuesday evening with a friend. Had a menu pages voucher. The place has a fantastic atmosphere, casual and smart at the same. We sat in the heated smoking garden; a smokers paradise. The scallops to start were very tasty (balsamic reduction, yum) I had a delicious veggie burger with wild rice and asparagus (homemade with apricots and nuts). My friend had the regular burger which she loved as the meat was very good quality and the foccacia bread was delicious. Unfortuneately, the rhubarb crumble we ordered was tasteless doughy mush. However, our waitress got it taken off the bill as we didn't eat it. The wines were a bit pricey but there was a good choice. The food was nice the atmosphere excellent, the decor very pleasant but what made our meal was how pleasant and attentive our waitress was, she was calm, sweet and very professional. I can see George's becoming a regular haunt for me.

Myself and my daughter decided to try Georges Wine bar last Monday night for a early diner cos I had read very good reviews about it on this site. We went about 6pm for the 3 course early dinner for €17.95 and talk about being disappointed, it was absolutely awful. I know its good value but the food is vile, we had the shrimp salad and the chicken broth to start. The chicken broth was like dirty dish water, it was disgusting, the worst thing I have tasted in years and the salad wasn't much better. For mains we had the pork, another disgusting meal overdone pork in a mushroom sauce, hard boiled potatoes and a tomato. We then had baileys cheese cake for dessert which in fairness was OK. I was so disappointed I know its very reasonable price wise but I would rather spend more money for nicer food. The only good thing I can say about Georges is that there is a lovely heated terrace where you can have a cigarette after the meal. But overall I would NEVER visit this restaurant again, totally disgusting food, cannot believe the good reviews it got on this site, maybe going later in the night trying the a la carte menu might be better but I will never know!

Went compliments of menupages voucher (thanks!) and was seated upstairs. Starter salad of asparagus should have been delicious but seemed to have had a pot of salt added to it, so unfortunately pretty inedible. The shrimp and chorizo salad was really good, like a spanish tapas dish, tasty, spicy, great size. Two mains of burgers took forever to arrive (think they were forgotten about), we weren't in any hurry, so we didn't say anything, and in fairness the waiter apologised and gave us a glass of wine on the house unprompted which was nice. They were very good though. It emptied out very quickly upstairs and seemed like all the action was downstairs which we missed! I definitely will try it again, as I think it could be great and we just had a bad night!

Decided to go here with my friend after lunch for a glass of wine. We arrived at 4, the place was empty but lovely and bright and the waitress met us with a lovely smile. We ordered wine and were offered olives and bread with same. The atmosphere was absolultely lovely, the staff were so wonderful and we will definitely be back for lunch. at 13 for 2 courses and 9 for 1, I cant wait to try it. Went back for lunch with hubbie. Great value for 9 euro. had vegiburgers, bread came before them and coffee afterwards, all for 9 euro, Fab staff and the right side of posh. Well be back

Had a lovely meal here (and by using our menupages voucher it was extremely very good value!) The food was delicious - I particularly enjoyed the cicken salad, and we both thoroughly enjoyed our mains. The service was very friendy although we waited quite some time for our starter..but it was worth the wait. We'll definitely return...but instead of the a la carte we'll go for the 4 course dinner -particularly good value with a reasonable choice of dishes for €17.95!!! In Dublin!!!!

Difficult one to call. Everything was mediocre. We went for the set menu and it was OK - big portions of the pasta - not so big of the pork but ok. Service was OK - there was no problem ordering bread instead of the soup for starter but they forgot my dessert and brought two for my companion as she wanted icecream with ber apple pie, then took pack the three scoops and redelivered one. Patio are looks amazing - would say it's great when the weather allows! Wouldn't go back for the food though. Another thing I didn't like was the way the prices are displayed on the menu eg: steak 22. Wasn't sure if it was the price or a list number!

Had a pleasant meal last friday night. What wonderful value for the early bird 4 course €17.95. 3 of us started off the the soup of the day which was delicious. For our main course twomof us had the chicken, one had the sea trout and the fourth had the medallions of pork. The one complaint that the four of us had was that the potatoes served were cold and also that they seemed that they were reheated, but apart from that everything else was ok.

Had lunch here today.Superb value with 2 courses for €13.Both myself and friend had shrimp salad.4 king prawns with spinach and mango sauce.V tasty and light for starter. My friend had pasta and I had beef medallions. Pasta was very generously portioned with bacon, onion etc and tomato sauce. Beef was not exactly fillet but what you can expect for price.Nice red wine jus with mash and rocket.V tasty overall. Service was good & nice day so we sat outside. All in all I would recommend as good place to eat if on a budget. Not michelin standard but then again neither are prices.

Have gone here for LUNCH many times - the deal is FANTASTIC!!! €9 for a main and a tea/coffee, which you would pay at O'Briens but here you get bread, good service and a nice atmosphere. Excellent lunch value and quite good food. Have never had wine or been there for dinner though.

Lovely spot on a Saturday night if you like something a bit different. Live music can be hit & miss in restaurants, but the singer / guitarist played an excellent set to add to the already cosy atmosphere. Skipped starters as we were a bit late! My medium steak was excellent, tender and juicy and my partners chicken dish also hit he spot. Not terribly fussy about wine, so we had no problem finding a suitable Sauvignon Blanc (I know other reviewers have commented on the limited selection). If I were to be fussy I would say that the main course list is limited and the seats are more designed for relaxing and drinking, rather than dining. But overall I would highly recommend this place.

Very nice. We decided to spend some of our menupages voucher in this restaurant (I confirm you can't use the voucher when having the €18 "3 courses menu"). The service was fine & the waitress really friendly. I do agree that the wine list is not extensive + we got served a bottle with the wrong year, but I don't complain about this anymore as it is a very common occurence in "Irish" restaurants. However the wine tasted OK & the food was lovely! Well presented & really tasty. The "a la carte" menu is a bit expensive though if you decide to have 3 courses + wine (around €100 not including discount, so we were more than happy to use the menupages vouchers, Thanks!!). We had the scallops as starter & they were perfectly cooked, yummy! Then my partner had the "gambas a la plancha" & I had the sea bream. All delicious! we then shared a cheese platter, which was amazing. To finish we shared a toffee pudding for desert: this was the only dish that disappointed us, However I would definitely recommend this restaurant, & cheese lovers, don't miss out on the cheese platter!!

Went for dinner here with a friend and had an OK experience. On arrival I was left standing at the door in the middle of the restaurant for a few minutes while they confirmed my booking even though there was 7/8 empty tables and we were the last sitting. The wine list is good but I had expected a lot more for a 'wine bar'. If you're going here for the wine DONT!! We waited a very long time for our mains, the table beside us had their starters and main courses b4 we saw any food!! Was however very tasty when it did arrive. I had the prawn & chorizo salad (a tad stingy on prawns)which was delicous and the bream was just as delicous. Simple and fresh ingredients done very well. The outside terrace is lovely and has a very nice atmosphere. The dining room inside should dim the lighting like this and make it slightly more romantic!

What can I say, I believe in 2nd chances, and went here last night to give it exactly that. I had one previous occasion here, that was shockinly bad. (as per my previous review on it). Sadly, once again it was Horrid! Wine bar??? Really?? Their wine list consists of a who's who of table wines, and the only decent glass of wine they offer, is €8.50, yet elsewhere there are better wines, at a much cheaper rate! The wine list is mainly table wines, and the service was terrible. We waited 50 minutes to get our main courses served to us. I would not mind but it was not even busy! The air con was set to the Ice age, and my partner and I had to ask them to turn it off before icicles developed from our lips!! As for the food, yes, not bad, though I do not consider it to be of sufficient quality to make up for a 50minute delay, nor for a wine list that is simply poor. Trust me, there are many, many better places to visit in town than this 'Wine bar' !! Take my advice, and go elsewhere to enjoy your night!

Eat here last night with my menupages voucher, (thank you very much) and loved it. Although we were not offered the early bird as we had the €30 voucher we only had to pay and extra €30e between two for two courses. For starter i had the shrimp and chorizo salad, very nice, tasty and different. I got the starter portion and this was huge. My boyfriend got the chicken broth which he also liked and lovely assorted breads were also given to us. For mains we both got the mushroom burger, this was gorgeous and very tasty, although i could not finish mine with the amount of meat in it and apparently he nearly got the meat sweats!!! To finish we had rhubarb crumble and sticky toffee pudding, both lovely, will definately return.

Visited last night with my menupages voucher (thank you very much!) We had the early bird which is excellent value at €18 for three course and tea or coffee. Food was yum, only issue was the service it is so annoying when you have been waiting for your main for over 20 minutes and you can hear all the waiting staff having a big chat behind you. Saying that we will be back.

What Georges get right, they do very well indeed, and where they err, the grievance is slight. Service was impeccable, the location is cosy and the wine, which was recommended by the waitress, complemented our meal perfectly. The food is also good, but it suffers slightly in the presentation. A little more imagination on that front and Georges will have sealed the deal. Chicken salad and scallop starters were fine, and the main of swordfish hit the spot. The chicken main consisted of a lonely dry breast of chicken perched upon a gelatinous island of mash, which was bounded by a sea of creamy tarragon sauce on all sides. It looked bland, and tasted no different. Great espressos though.Go and enjoy Georges but remove your glasses once done with the menus

This restaurant was a little disappointing. We ate here on a Tuesday night so it was quiet and relaxed. The service was good overall and our wine glasses were kept filled. The food was the only let down. I had the scallops to start, which I’m pretty sure was one scallop sliced many times down the centre, way overpriced at 10 euro. My friend had the crab which was tastier and a little more filling. For the main I had the prawn pasta. There were just 3 prawns in the entire dish, one in its shell which I find pretty annoying. The pasta was fresh though and quite nice. My friends salmon was a little more substantial, but nothing spectacular. Overall I was hoping for more, especially for the price but still not a bad spot for a relaxed evening.

Found by seeing a guy holding a sign for the restaurant while in town. Two courses + coffee for 13euro or main course + coffee for 9euro. Where would you get it? The surroundings are lovely and the food is to die for. Cooked to order and sooo fresh. On a second visit they had coffee and a freshly baked pastry for 3euro. I will definitely be back.

This was my second visit in three days, as I didn't eat the first time, but was impressed by the dishes being served to the diners. Today I met a friend for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed sitting out on the large terrace. I ordered the Beef Medallions with red wine gravey and mash- it was faultless. The beef was tender and cooked precisely as I asked for it, the flavours were all completely in sync, without over powering the beef and the mash was light and creamy. My friend had the vegetarian burger, which she thought was particularly inspired and full of taste in comparison with many other vegetarian offerings available at other establishments. I will definately be returning here regularly in order to work my way through the menu!

I'd heard rave reviews about George's. When I finally got around to visiting myself, I was less than impressed. The service was terrible. The guy obviously had imense difficulty with English and I got a mineral water after asking for an erdinger. Not only was the language barrier a sticking point, but we were waiting about an HOUR for two rare steaks. When they finally did come out they were quite cold and no apology was made about the delay. That being said, the prices are incredible!!!

What a lovely place this is although a bit off the beaten track, which might explain why we got a table straight away, without a booking on a Friday night. Inside is laid out very well so tables are not on top of each other. The food is delicious and portions big, my husband had Steak and I had Salmon, the waitress did point out that there would be a 20 min wait for the salmon and offered us more bread, but we didn’t mind as we were relaxing over a very nice bottle of wine. The food was worth the wait though, and we both really enjoyed our meal. I would recommend this restaurant and will call again.

Just had lunch here today and although the food is tasty ( a tad on cold side) the service is appalling. Starters came out pretty fast thought this was a good sign, mains followed slower at which point our waiter tried to give them to another table as he was a bit mixed up over which table was what number! In between this, two customers got up and left without paying because they were waiting over 20 mins for teas and coffee, the last straw being the table beside them ordering 15 mins after them and getting it straight away.On complaining we were told the staff are new, not much of an excuse they don't even know the table numbers!

The manager of the place is such a treasure for the restaurant. We met Michele as soon as we got to our table. despite the fact that it is his job to be always polite and well-mannered, he made us feel really welcome. The food was delicious, especially the prawns. The wine list is very impressive, and the prices are reasonable. Oh, one more thing - Anthony is a superman!!! I bet girls are queuing to have at least a chat with him. Anyway, his energy is unbelievable!! Well done, keep up the good work, its a great place to chill. Hopefully see ya soon!:)

I'd like to go back when there is more people. The place was dead, which isn't a good thing. Had 1 starter, 2mains and 2 desserts. Starter was the crab it looked nice but was a bit on the small size, presentation was nice. Mains were the vegetarian burger and rib eye steak. I was disappointed with my steak, it could hve been better and serving just mash isn't good enough. Desserts were surprisingly good, Rhubarb crumble and apple pie. The rhubarb had still a bit in it and not over sweet which can be a turn off. I'll return and hope to have a better experience.

What a find! Went here recently for dinner with Menupages €30 voucher. Ate out on the terrace. Perfect for summer. Staff were so great. Really helpful, relaxed and down to earth. Worked out so cheap for the quality of the food. I got shrimp, potato, chorizo starter. Huge portion. Gorgeous though. Got monkfish for main. Disappointing. Tasted a bit like chicken :( :( :( My friend got scallops too and prawns though, which were amazing. Will defo be back, despite the monkfish.

Went there yesterday and it was absolutely great. I ate the dishes which were recommended on this page and they were delicious. Sat outside and it was perfect mild that night. Drank a good bottle of rioja and everyone was in a good mood. A place to go with friends and partners.

The wine list has a great range, the bottle we had for €24 was beautiful. The food was fantastic. My salmon was perfectly cooked and the portion was large however my asparagus was swapped with broccoli and not a word was said by the staff… The waiters offered a professional and very attentive service and the decor was excellent. The only problem was the place was absolutely deserted on a Friday night Overall it was great value and a pleasant evening. I will definitely be going back but hoping more people will discover the place and soon!

Disappointing but would consider trying it again. My parents went in on a saturday night and they had a great experience. Myself and my dad went friday lunchtime. We were seated and served quickly. We both ordered mixed vegetable soup which was nice. I order the beef and my dad ordered pork. They must have forgot about us because about 35 minutes after our soup the waitress apologised to us and told us it would just be another few minutes. The main course arrived and my beef was raw. I like my beef medium to medium well but there was blood oozing out and parts were still raw. I sent it back and they apologised and I got a new one. We would have likely to stay for dessert but with such a long wait earlier we missed out.

Thursday nights in Georges wine bar are becoming a bit of a regular for me! Fabulous little spot for casual dining and music (a combination sorely lacking in Dublin). The piano playing happens downstairs(thursday night musician is particularly good!)..tables in the piano bar perhaps not the most suitable for a three course meal but perfect if it's a light meal & glass of wine you are after. There is more of a restaurant layout upstairs should you prefer...and you can always head down to the basement for the music/wine/atmosphere after. For the best atmosphere downstairs arrive after 9pm.

After a lunch here I was not quite so enthusiastic about the food as some of your other reviewers. But there is no doubt about the good value of its luncheon menu. For a special price of 13 Euro for two courses it's a snip. Our waitress was pleasant and helpful - although she furnished us with a bill for 66 instead of 44 Euro (for two). However, the management put things right with a smile.

Made a last minute booking and got a table upstairs. We both ordered steaks which were done to perfection. The sides and desserts were also delicious. Went downstairs to the wine bar afterwards and ordered a second bottle of wine which was served, with olives etc. while we listened to beautiful piano music in the background. If I were to sum it up .... boys, if you want to impress a girl, take her here, you can't go wrong!

I consider Georges to one of Dublins best kept secrets !! In a quiet side street off Nassau street this cavernous encalve is a must for all foodies - with an extensive wine list , great value tapas and without doubt the best piano player in Dublin on a Saturday night! Try the Scallops...

Went here Sat 12.04.08 and was very impressed. Service was fantastic and food was lovely. Would recommend the fillet steak melt in the mount. We both got the chicken broth, which I have to say was very salty, I mentioned it to the waitress and she took them off the bill, which was very good as she probably didn't have to. Would recommend a visit

went here on a thursday night. We sat outside with the heaters as some of our party were smokers. Found this great as it meant people weren't getting up between courses to smoke. And it didn't even feel like you were outside. Food was top quailty. No one got anything that wasn't nice. I had the chicken that was cooked to perfection with a gorgeous sauce! well worth a visit!

Went there with my wife, very quiet and lacked a bit of atmosphere (could have been the day of the week)- Very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food, I had the chicken which was very moist and tasty, wife had the fish which she enjoyed, shared a plate of veg which were excellent. The Baileys cheesecake is worth every calorie, pound and inch and goes so well with ice cream. Service was a little confused as they had a young girl that asked the right questions at the wrong time, but it made us laugh! I will be booking to go there again, on a slightly busier night to see if the atmosphere improves.

Ate here after work one evening. The service was efficient and the waitresses were very friendly. The food was average. Some of the dishes were very good, like my crab starter and prawns a la plancha, but some were disappointing. My friend found the ribeye to be mostly grizzle and fat. The foie gras starter also looked like it had been cut and left on the plate in a hot kitchen, the butter has melted in a pool, and it was warm and slimy. The sticky toffee pudding was superb, but the apple pie needed to be headed through more thoroughly. The vanilla ice-cream is good. A good reasonable plate to eat, but food was a little hit and miss.

Just back from lunch at Georges wine bar and feeling fully satisfied. My friend and I sat over our lunch for two hours and were not rushed out of our seats at all. Food was delicious, I had the special pasta with mushrooms and ham while my friend had the perfectly cooked medallions of beef in the red wine sauce - all for 9euro each including a coffee. Great value, great food and very relaxing atmosphere.

Myself and my girlfriend enjoyed a nice meal here last week, with a large proportion of the bill paid by menupages... nice! The food was delish, steak cooked to perfection and although we were waiting 25 mins for the salmon to cook, I was informed that it was well worth the wait. A nice spot, quite odd paintings line the wall but that's to be expected from a wine bar I suppose.

Not a tapas bar! Very disappointing to discover that on arrival and after asking over the phone when booking! The waitress said they use the sides as tapas, what a pile of..... I got a meat plate, and some other thing that I don't even remember. Poor quality & lots of it. We asked 3 times for everything to arrive together, then when asked where my friend's steak was she said she was waiting for us to finish our 'starters'. She only had the two of us and another couple who were only drinking wine to serve...the seating is the most ridiculous I’ve ever come across. I saw one of the reviews mention it and like her, I’m only 5'3'' but even I was uncomfortable. The seats downstairs are at the same level as the table top, even hobbits would be looking for the rest of the table legs. Sit upstairs and stick the main courses-the steak BTW tastes like a slice of roast beef and is drowned in gravy. The dessert was a crumble or something and was the measliest portion ever! Great business idea, open a 'tapas' bar like this place & you'll make a fortune.

This is not a tapas bar, and not a place for vegetarians (the options are two veggie pastas in the mains, none in the starters). We dined early and had the staff to our selves, so service was excellent. My crab and avocado mousse starter was too salty and tangy. The scallops were deemed good and fresh. Our mains were salmon with baby potatoes&veg and sea bream with mash and asparagus – no too exciting, but the sea bream was spiced with chili, surprisingly, which made an impression. The desserts were the highlight of the meal: the Baileys cheese cake foamy and light, the sticky toffee pudding to die for and obviously home made. We were delighted to at the end of the meal be told their early bird offer (from 5 to 7) subtracted 20% from the bill!

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin. What it lacks in terms of atmoshphere it certainly makes up for in terms of food. The food is amazingly high quality for the pirce. Try the scallops or crab to start and the rib-eye steak is to die for as a mian. I'm not a dessert person but have been told that the desserts are good quality also. All in all, it's a great place. The wait staff are extremely knowledgeable about the menu and don't be afraid to get a recommendation for which wine is best suited to your food.

Visited here with friends from the UK last Saturday week on the recommendation of a friend. We ate downstairs; first impressions of the low tables were not good, however, once we sat down and received the food and wine menus we settled in to the ambience. Staff were excellent and very pleasant, if a little slow to serve us at first. The food was some of the best that we have had recently in Dublin. Definitely will go again. The crab starter and the steak and scallops in particular. Cannot wait for an excuse to visit it again.

Booked there for Valentine's after looking long and hard and therefore was expecting a lot from George's and I wasn't disappointed. I had the crab for staters which was ok, my wife had the scallops which she liked. However the salmon as a main was AMAZING. So delicious i ate all my carrots and broccoli :). My wife had the sticky toffee pudding which I think you can get better elsewhere. The plus side was it was nice, cosy and quiet, a nice departure from your average night out in a restaurant in Dublin. Service was good, although at first 3 different waiters came in less minutes to ask if we were ready to order. Better than no service at all but still a little annoying. Other than that will go back again to try other dishes.

Discovered this place as we couldn't get a table across the road. A good find and will return. Although it was quiet, we were rewarded with quality food. Have heard since that the wine bar downstairs is worth a visit for a few late ones, so will return to again for a nice meal followed by the downstairs fun!!!

A bit different from the other, more formal places in and around the area. It seems they had lost the record of our booking but where very accomodating nonetheless. Not the most atmospheric restaurant in Dublin (we were seated upstairs) but the food was excellent

I visited here with my boyfriend before xmas and thoroughly enjoyed the night. The food was delicious... My boyfriend had the scallops to start which were beautiful and melted in your mouth. For the main he ordered the steak. The waiter did not ask how he wanted it done (often a gd sign) and it was cooked perfectly medium-rare. I had the swordfish which was delish, just the right size portion as well. To finish we shared a cheese plate of some of the most amazing cheeses ever! The waiter advised which order we taste in... to most enjoy the flavour. A very French restaurant... great food and wine! If I was to make one criticism it would be the atmosphere.. a little lacking. But the food more than made up for it

I have visited Georges many, many times and have loved it. The food & wine was great and very good value - time was you could have fillet steak for 20-22Euro. The music was excellent and the waiting staff superb. However, all that has changed. The menu has been changed and the prices increased considerably. Presumably this may be due to the opening of a restaurant upstairs and this reflects what it thinks should be restaurant prices. This is fine if the quality is of a standard in keeping with the price. We were there Saturday last and ordered two fillet steaks. They took about an hour to arrive (we had finished the bottle of wine we had) and were not cold but cool. Mine was cooked medium as requested and so was edible if unappetising, although I ate it because at this stage I was starving! The other steak was rare as requested, but as the carnivores out there will know, rare meat has to be warm - its very hard to eat cold rare. Anyway, we felt that the temperature of the food was more to do with a delay in it being delivered to us due to the the poor standard of the new waiting staff (one guy was doing everything, while another waiter was busy trying to look attractive to the waitress who was fawning over him - again not so appetising!) rather than the kitchen. We did mention to the one hardworking waiter that the food was cold, but he did not know what to do, so it was left largely uneaten. All the same when the bill arrived the two steaks were complimentary, so that was good. The music was still very good but I don't think we will be back for a while. Really, really nice place, but staff need to be reviewed and can someone please explain why some restaurants increase their prices once they get successful?

Enjoyed a meal for two here. Felt there wasn't much of an atmosphere upstairs, didn't help that there was a group of around 10 girls sitting beside us, who seemed to be enjoying the wine more than the food! (of course can't fault the restaurant on this!) The quality of the food was amazing, and the menu had a wide variety of options. Very relaxed staff with no hurry on how long you're there, visits to the heated smoking area weren't a problem!! Definitely go back, overall excellent experience.

Had a lovely romantic meal with boyfriend here last night - great food, we had asparagus and chicken salad for starters, beef and steak for mains, too full for dessert! The piano/guitar entertainer created a great ambience and we weren't rushed like in a lot of places. Would definitely return here my only complaint would be that the chairs and tables (downstairs) were very low and it was hard to eat off and a little uncomfortable and I'm only 5"3!! But the wine soon got us over this...so don't let it put you off.

Recommended by a work colleague I decided to try it with my wife as I found parking nearby. The service was very good, attentive & efficient without being overbearing. They give you time to enjoy your food and you get the impression that they value your custom. Starter was cured meats which was excellent and I had rib eye steak which was done to my specification but would have liked a side of vegetables. My wife had the pasta which she also enjoyed. I liked the atmosphere and would like to go back and try the good value lunch menu. We also bought a voucher for inlaws as a Christmas present so they could enjoy the food and atmosphere.

What a find. I'd heard a lot about this place & was dying to try it. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant in a little alcove. The staff were incredibly friendly & helpful. I ordered the crab, followed by the prawns. I was nervous as they came in their shells but the manager gave me some advice on how to take them out. My boyfriend had the chicken salad to start, which I tasted, it was lovely then he had the beef which I didn't get to sample as it was gone too quickly ;) We also had the nicest bottle of wine we've had in a long time, the Astrolabe Riesling. You can relax after your meal, none of this annoying two sitting malarkey that goes on these days in other Dublin restaurants. I would definitely recommend this restaurant, it is great food at great value, I was picking up the bill! There is also a lovely area downstairs where you can relax and enjoy your bottle of wine. I am looking forward to going back and trying something else on their interesting menu.

Had lunch here. Food was excellent. Think they were understaffed that day so service was not great and it was very hard to get the waiter's attention. I had the vegetarian burger and wild rice which came with a drizzle of cranberry sauce. It was delicious. The other vegetarian diner in the group had the best gnocchi either of us had tasted. The skinny ones had their usual starters and agreed that the quality and flavour was excellent. Wine by the glass was very expensive. For the food though, we will return.

Am adding to the glowing comments from everyone else here. And absolute gem - and yes a great haven - love the atmosphere, decor and service. I do find the menu quite uninspired but the food is really tasty and simple (and consistently so), also the portions could be a little bigger. Really impressive the other night, myself and a friend (2 women) were eating there and this very drunk loud guy plonked himself at our table and blabbered on for ages all shouty, loud and pushy. We were really not looking for that sort of night, haven't seen each other in an age. One of the waiters got the manager - without us doing anything - and the manager discretely said I'm sorry sir but the girls would like to be left alone.

My boyfriend and I enjoyed a fantastic meal here last Friday evening. From begining to end it was an absolute pleasure to spend over 2 hours eating dinner in a modern yet cosy dining room, with quality food, excellent service and relaxing atmosphere. To start we were brought fresh baked bread with an olive oil and lemon dressing to keep the hunger at bay while we decided what to order. A lovely bottle of Italian white followed and was the perfect accompaniment to the crab and scallops staters we both ordered. Having never tasted either, I was pleasantly surpised at the beautiful presentation and tasty flavours from both. To follow we ordered the sea bream and swordfish and again we weren't disappointed with how well cooked and tasty the dishes were. A cheese plate finished off the evening and brought the bill to €91. Money well spent for a lovely evening out! They also have a cosy winebar downstairs, so we're hoping for a return visit soon to give it a go as well as to sample the rest of the menu!

This place is wonderful - 2 new areas which are great. They now have the wine bar, restaurant and amazing terrace area (loads of heaters!). We all found the food to perfection. We had ham and cheese plates to start, followed by some of the best steaks around. Vast wine list and I was delighted that the manager was so knowledgable on the wines to guide people like myself (clueless). Finally, we found the staff charming and the piano music was definitely the icing on the cake. A great evening. Definitely worth a visit.

Please do not go there. Cause on a weekend night this place is an oasis. It is quiet, nice, not full of drunk, the kitchen serves food until midnight, the floor staff is smiling, the food is not that great but it is not that expensive too. They have a new garden at the back that is quiet and pretty with nice iron tables and chairs. The deco is simple and revival so please, please do not let any idiot drunk ruining, as they know best this little secret place. The wine list is small would need a bit of work on it .The manager has a classy transalpine touch. They also have a beautiful piano bar and every night I went the players always gave a great gig.

We had a nice family meal here a few weeks ago. The place is very informal and the food was nice but quite limited for vegetarians (there were 3 of us in the group). The great piano player added a brilliant touch.

My partner and I had a very enjoyable meal here over the May Bank Holiday weekend. We dined outside in the heated courtyard. The service was excellent and the Mediterranean menu works well, however it could do with a few more options. The wine list, as you'd expect, was very good. The mixed tapas plate would make a lovely lunch or a starter for two. Our meal (2 starters, 2 mains and 1 bottle of wine) came to just under €100.
