A real Dublin institute. The smokies alone are worth the visit. But a word of warning, everyone knows how good they are and they sometimes run out. Sunday lunch is great value. Its a place that feels like a treat. It is.

I was there on a Tuesday for an early bird with my girlfriend and her parents and it was excellent. The first and only time I was in Dobbins was about year ago and I had had such a great night that I couldn’t wait to go back. We got there a bit too early so we went for a glass of wine at the bar while waiting for the rest of the party to arrive. Once we were sited on a very comfortable couch, we started looking at the menu which we found amazing as the choice for an early bird was absolutely great. I had the goat cheese and red onion as a starter, the roasted duck (it is in fact half a duck) as main and the sticky toffee pudding as dessert and I couldn’t be happier. Strangely enough, none of us ordered the same dish on the night, a part from sharing the starter with my girlfriend’s mother but, we all were very impressed with the food and the service. The wine as well, it is very good value for money as they have a very good selection. We will definitely go back soon.

I had the early bird option and between the bread, starter (Ham Hock Terrine) and main (chicken) I had no room left for dessert. Nice restaurant and nice wine selection also. Will probably stick to fish options on next visit as I'm anxious to sample the sticky toffee pudding.

Went here for my wife's birthday. Arrived early at 6 and we were seated in a booth close to the kitchen. There was a noisy party of city gentlemen - seemed like a boozy lunch but not much the staff could do about that. Food was very good though the salad vinagrette was a bit strong for the goats cheese tartlett. I had the terrine of bacon, foie gras etc - delicious. Mains were duck and the sirloin of beef - both excellent. The duck was tender and moist, the beef was a true medium as ordered - the pepper sauce rich and piquant. Desserts were strong as well and they brought a lovely happy birthday creme brulee. Overall very good food and service and excellent value. Will definitely be back.

Came to Dobbins on Saturday evening and couldn't have been more disappointed!! I have heard such good feedback about Dobbins and was so keen on dining here but had such an awful experience. While the food is, in our opinion, excellent, the service was a different matter. We were sat on one of those lovely booths close to the action in the kitchen but from the moment we sat down, we felt like we were in a pub and not a high end restaurant..our waitress was extremely loud and constantly fidgeting...all night long! We had to wonder if there was anything wrong with her on that particular night! We are usually not picky customers but when we do go out to a fine dining restaurant, we think that it is more than normal to expect a fine dining service and experience and not a pub one.

We went here last night.. I booked the Early Bird, which was great value, 27.50 for 3 courses plus coffee up until 7pm on Saturdays. The person that took my reservation was very professional, as were all the staff from the Hostess to the waiters and waitresses. I would have only on criticism and that is that the tables are very close together. My Husband had the Spring Roll of Confit of Duck which he didn't really like, so he thought that the rest of his meal would be the same, but all the courses that followed, he was more than pleased with. He had the Slow Cooked Pork Belly and the White Chocolate & Citrus Crème Brulee. I had the Marinated Chicken Salad, the Fermanagh Free Range Chicken and the Baked Lemon Tart all were fabulous. The coffee was really good also. The portions were good, you wouldn't feel hungry leaving there but not uncomfortable. Well done. I'll be back.

I recently went here on a Friday evening with my girlfriend. We had booked for 7pm to avail of the early bird menu but were delayed by 10-15 minutes but they still allowed us to choose from the early bird menu which was nice. The staff were very courteous from the start and attentative enough without being overbearing. The athmosphere was a little flat but that could be because we chose the booth seats to sit in. The food was of a very high quality and neither of us could fault the dishes that we were served. They were well presented and cooked to perfection. As we chose from the early bird menu the price was very competitive for such a nice restuarant.

I went to Dobbins with my husband to celebrate our 2nd anniversary. We went for the early bird option. We were given a large table to ourselves which was really nice, as sometimes when you go out as a couple you feel like you're presonal space is invaded by other diners being sat too close! The food was amazing. Loved the pear and blue cheese starter and the main course of lamb was so good. Would definately go back.

I have visited this resturant on a number of times and I aleays enjoyed the experiance and I found food and service great. On my last visit the staff were very rude and unhelpful, the food was very poor especially the cheese board, there were 6 grapes that were well past there day and they where shriveled. My steak was over cooked and I had asked for it medium.. I was very unhappy so I spoke to the wait staff when we were paying the bill and we were told that the manager was too busy to speak to us and asked for our number and we are still waiting for a call. A week after I decided to email to explain that their service was terrible and we where unhappy that we hadn't recieved a call back and I got no reply to this email. I fully understand that any restuarant can serve a sub standard meal but once an apology is given when this is pointed out I would be happy to return to a resturant but bad customer service is unacceptable

Found the staff a little disinterested, it was clear we were celebrating and there was no interaction from any of the people who served us. I also sensed a little impatience for some unfathomable reason! I was disappointed with my prawn cocktail starter, the prawns were very watery! Otherwise the food was delicious, all six of our party had a wonderful meal. Would definitely return, the set lunch menu is great value, the staff could do with employing a smile or two though.

Had a fantastic night in Dobbins on a friday night. Food was excellent as always and staff looked after us from the minute we walked in. It was just so sad the place was empty. We were a party of 6, out for a fun night and there were just about 6 tables in use, very sad as it always used to be busy with a great buzz and we expected that on a friday night. We all enjoyed our 3 courses and the wines were excellent & we all felt it was reasonably priced for what we got, but maybe they should be doing specials of 2 courses for E19.50 to get more clients in the door as I would hate to see this well known restaurant close.

Treated ourselves last night to this 5 star restaurant experience. I just love this restaurant. We go a few times a year for special occasions and I always feel it was worth every penny after our visits. The service is professional friendly without being obtrusive. And the food - well, there is just nothing bad to say, and I mean nothing. It is tasty, fab and presented impeccably. The crab is my absolute favourite starter while my partner loves the prawn tempura. Mains of duck (which himself says is the best in the World, high praise from him!) and the sole were so delicious. I would suggest ordering a couple of sides - but leave room for dessert. Tonight we went for the orange dark chocolate tart and some ice cream with butterscotch sauce...my mouth is watering typing, both delicious. Their wine selection is excellent, and if in doubt there's a pleasant Sommelier available to assist. There's a party room upstairs - seats about 30 we had a party last year for 28 (a bit tight) but it was excellent for our needs and the service was just as good up there. This is one of my favourite treat restaurants which I always enjoy visiting.

My boyfriend and I availed of the couples menu in Dobbins last night - 3 courses, plus a bottle of wine, plus tea/coffee, all for only €70! Everything from start to finish was fantastic: sophisticated, relaxed atmosphere; discreet, friendly service; lots of choice on the menu. I went with foie gras and ham hock to start, followed by veal with prosciutto and gruyere for mains. Gorgeous! My boyfriend's trojan appetite was more than satisfied by traditional prawn cocktail and the house speciality, duck. I don't usually have room for dessert but together we polished off the Dobbins sticky toffee pudding - serious melt in the mouth stuff - and an equally moreish pavlova. We'll be back!

Its another winner! We booked rather late today for early bird menu but unfortunately had some trouble finding the restaurant so didnt make it until 7.15pm. I was delighted when the very helpful Maitre D suggested the Special Menu which is available until 8pm. We were sat in a booth which allowed for private conversation and an intimate dinner. Three courses was definatley too much as the food was very rich. A terrine of foie gras/ham was nice but not something I would order again with the chutney and celeriac remoulade not quite doing what I thought it would for my tastebuds. Main course I had a breaded veal escalope with veg which was nice but not as delicious as my eating partners 'fish and chips' a beautiful piece of cod in a tempura batter with nicely cooked chunky chips, minted mushy peas and beautiful house made tartar sauce. Dessert, that was a whole different expericence and one which my tastebuds (and hips) wont forget in a hurry! Warm Belgian chocolate and orange tart? I have eaten some desserts in my time but this was absolutely smooth and orgasmic - absolutely devine! Whoever made it definately knows what (s)he is doing. I'll be back, thats for sure!

Ate from the early bird menu and there was a special offer which was advertised on the tables but nt initially offered until we asked. This was the only complaint we had except we didnt leave ourselves enough time as we had a show booked. Very very good and the offer was excellent value for money. This is somewhere I will be back to and spend the evening there. All the staff were very pleasant and the atmosphere was great, food was very good. Thanks and see you soon

A group of 6 friends dine out together every 6 months or so and Dobbins was suggested by a member of the group. Having eaten here before I was looking forward t ogoing back. And it didnt disappoint. We booked the early bird and being a Tuesday evening we didnt have to rush our meal so we dined in comfort. Our waiter brought the special offer to our attention and we dined from that menu instead. Despite it being a Tuesday night there was a nice atmosphere. Food was excellent - the roast duck was delicious. So all in all a great success. We will be back for more!!

I was part of a group of 18 people who gathered for a function in Dobbins. When we arrived the restaurant was full and quite noisy so we were very happy to be shown to a lovely, airy, private room. Service was friendly and efficient. Everybody agreed that the food was absolutely delicious. I had prawn cocktail and rump of lamb with Provencal juices and champ.. Dessert of pavlova with a berry compote was superb. Other people enthused about the toffee pudding. All in all a lovely dining experience!

Visited Dobbins for the first time last Friday night for a family meal. Somehow, I had never made it here before and I was quite excited as it has quite the reputation. I have to be honest, we were all quite disappointed. The place was almost empty. We ate from the a la Carte menu and the choices were pretty uninspiring. The food was nicely presented and tasted fine but it was just that - fine. This meal would have been perfectly adequate and we'd have left smiling if it'd been served to us it in a cheap and cheerful Temple bar eatery but it was expensive. Almost €300 for starters and mains for 4 with 2 bottles of wine. In current climes you really expect something special for that. Sorry Dobbins, it really wasn't worth it.

Had dinner here Thurs evening. Opted for the 4 course meal with glass of wine for €29.95. Very good choice on this menu - I went for traditional prwan cocktail, then the beef and guinnesss pie, followed by lemon tart. Food very nice, well presented and service good. Great way of eating here if on a budget - otherwise you could spend quite a lot.

Went for a Mother's day lunch. The standards of ingredients, cooking and service were all a little above what you would expect from a €27.50 Sunday Lunch menu. No complaints whatsoever from 4 starters/mains/desserts. This is my third visit since they revamped a year or so (maybe more) back. It wont be the last.

After looking at the reviews and great photographs of delicious food on their web page, my husband and I decided to have Sunday lunch here. The restaurant is lovely and the service very good but we were very disappointed with the food. It is just like home cooked food and nothing more. I had the Rump Of Slaney Lamb with Ratatouille and Gratin Potato. The lamb was beautifully cooked and tender, the ratatouille was sloppy and looked more like a relish and the gratin potato was mashed potato. My husband had the Rare Breed Pork Belly which he found tasteless and the crackling was not crispy but chewy. With a great selection of restaurants in Dublin serving fantastic food we will not be returning to Dobbins.

I recently had an early bird meal at Dobbins and the trouble we had finding this gem nestled in Stephen's Place was well worth it. The food was top class and the service was friendly and very helpful. I would highly recommend Dobbin's for a special occasion or just a treat after a tough day in work!! At €27.50 for an early bird of this standard you couldn't find anywhere better!

I came here my xmas party here and we ate off the early bird. The service was excellent and the early bird from start to finish was delicous!!! There was a 5 euro extra charge on the steaks but it was well worth it!!! The onlt negitive word i have to say about this resturant was that we where a large group and we where sitting very close to each other...thank god i get on well with my work colleagues.Looking forward to the next visit to Dobbins.

Went here on a work Christmas Party. The food was very nice and we had a good time. The staff were friendly and helpful, the courses arrived quickly and everyone was quite happy with their meal. Unfortunately there were some negatives. The staff refilled wine glasses without asking if you wanted them refilled. On several occassions I had turned to talk to someone and turned back to see my glass full again. This compounded with the fact that the restaurant never told us when we ran over our tab. They continued pouring the wine and opening more bottles so that at the end of the meal there were several open half full bottles and our bill was much more than it should have been. This put a taint on the whole evening.

I've always heard people raving about Dobbins, but didn't know what all the fuss was about until I went here with a group for a friends birthday. Now I understand, and I will be back! We had arranged the booking in time for their early bird menu, which is excellent value. The service was not compromised by the fact we were a big group, and I can only say I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The food was excellent, and I look forward to my next visit.

Hadn't been here in a while so was looking forward to going back, Have to say I wasn't disappointed. The early bird is excellent value. Arrived early and were immediately shown to our table. Very quiet at that time but filled up really quickly and there was a good atmosphere. Despite the numbers, there was plenty of staff to look after everyone. Was a bit of a delay between courses which was fine as it gave us time to digest the previous. Partner thought the pavlova dessert was only OK but the trademark sticky toffee pud was good. Slight negatives would be restaurant became very warm towards the end, and background music seemed a bit loud. when it came on. Looking forward to going back.

Five of us went for our Christmas lunch. We had booked the table for 14:30 and arrived on time, but had to stand and wait for 20 mins as the table wasn't ready. The waiting area was very cramped and there were several other people waiting for their tables as well. Once we were seated both the service and the food were excellent. Definitely worth the wait!

As a regular visitor to Dobbins, I continue to be impressed and very satisfied. My wife and two of our adult children enjoyed the early bird dinner on Friday evening. Food and service spot on and we will continue to support - more restaurants of this quality and caliber need to follow this example with consistancy.

I was in Dobbins on a Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy, but nevertheless they were able to accomodate extra people in our group, as actually we had more people than originally the reservation was made for. We had an early bird menu, which was an excellent value and a very good choice. The food was very tasty (had pavlova for dessert and a duck for main) A very good place for a dinner!

We visited here recently to celebrate my daughters graduation. It was just wonderful and everyone loved it. I had the smokies for starters and the lamb for main course and the brownie dessert. Such tasty food, attentive service and totally to be recommended to celebrate a special occasion. My children all want to return and Dobbins have certainly sold themselves to them for the future generation!

Had dinner here the other night with my family, and it was absolutely gorgeous. We went for early bird which is 27 for 4 courses. Everyone loved their food. I had duck roll for starter, served on a small bed of noodles, yummy! and lamb for main course, it was one of the nicest pieces of meat i ever tasted. I look forward to returning here!

I love this restaurant its def one of my favourites I've never had a bad meal here. Came for the lunch menu with some work colleagues. Great value lunch menu. Service great and you get lovely breads. Had the goats cheese tartlet for starter which had salad and beetroot on the side. Melt in the mouth. Had the hake for main perfect, really gorgeous and very filling. Everyone elses meals looked really well presented and they were all delighted with them. It wasn't that busy which I was surprised about. Had a fabulous glass of red wine and I dont like red usually! This is a fantastic restaurant can't recommended it enough!

Sunday lunch at Dobbins with the girls - I absolutely love this place! Food is fantastic, service is great, and at 25 euro for 3 courses it is great value - I had the smoked haddock risotto to start - I love smoked haddock but not a big fan of risotto but I loved this dish, it was so tasty. The salmon dish for main was very different but fab, and creme brulee to finish off. All the girls were happy with their dishes - only complaint is that we were really hot during the meal (air con needs to be better) and too full leaving!!!

Came here for the lunch menu and thought it was excellent. Really good food at a very reasonable price (23 for 3 courses). I had the Oriental duck parcel to begin with - the duck was beautifully tender. I then had the tempura cod which also supurb - crispy batter, moist fish with lovely mushy peas to accompany it. For dessert I had the creme brulee with mandarin - I personally think it's a mistake to put fruit in the custard (should be on the side if there at all), but it was still a very good brulee. Service was very good too & they were very accomodating when one of our group was delayed getting to the restaurant. Overall, I'll definitely come back.

I had a bad experience in Dobbins over 20 years ago and never returned. This is what a bad experience in a restaurant can do. I was finally persuaded to go there for Sunday lunch in June and I was very pleasantly surprised. The food and service were excellent. Risotto for starter and Rump of lamb for mains. Both dishes perfectly cooked and the other members of the party (6) were equally impressed. Service was also excellent. Friendly without being in your face. Value was also very good at €25 for Sunday lunch. Will certainly return. The only downside was that we were seated in the conservatory and as it was a sunny day it got very warm. Whilst they do have air conditioning, we had to ask for it to be switched on and when it was, it fought a losing battle against the heat.

Have been here twice now. Once for Sunday Lunch(€25) very reasonable and then for dinner one evening also. This is how a Dublin Restaurant should be. Experienced Staff with full knowledge of the menu and the wine. Asked for A Medium Steak and it was cooked to perfection accompanied by chunky chips. Plenty of Fish on the Menu and the Assiette of Seafood Starter is so tasty and perfectly presented. All the food is presented immaculately. The waiting staff are attentive without being patronising or intrusive. Weill be making a lot more visits to this restaurant

Was here for the early bird on a wed eve and loved it, the smoked fish starter was fab and the lamb was one of the best ive ever tasted. for 27.5 including tip its such great value, cant wait to come back next time. Wine menu is expensive but i suppose thats because the resturant prices outside early bird are quite dear.

Booked Dobbins for a family dinner for my son's 18th birthday and couldn't fault it. Have been three times before over the years and each time has been better than the last. With the early bird menu it was definitely less pricey than previously but the food and atmosphere every bit as good. I'd mentioned the 18th when I made the reservation and when deserts arrived there was a personalised happy birthday message written in chocolate on the sticky toffee pudding plate along with a candle - his embarassment made the night! According to the birthday boy the desert was "immense". All the food was fabulous and would definitely recommend the Tempura of Dublin Bay Prawns which my husband, had as we were all sorry we didn't order it and had to have a taste. There was a small supplement for these but WELL WORTH IT! Steak was melt in the mouth and with the buzzy atmosphere it felt like 9pm on a Saturday night instead of 6.30pm. We'll DEFINITELY be back - and soon!

Love the place! Went here for the 1st time for lunch. Service was extremely quick and very friendly. Food was really really good. Perfect sizes and very tasty. Not sure how many people want/can eat a four course meal during their lunch break so maybe reduce the price and number of courses? I was lucky on this visit as I wasn't paying! All in all a lovely lunch and will definitely try and get back.

Excellent food, will definitely be returning. Staff were very friendly and helpful and gave us our space at the same time. 3 of us had 3 different starters, mains and 1 dessert. All dishes were excellent. Include 2 bottles of wine for a total of 210 euro, considering the wine cost 60 on its own, food came to 50 a head. Not the cheapest but the quality proves it was money well spent.

Dobbins early bird menu is the best in Dublin. Had a delicious dinner there last week - oriental duck roll, cornfed chicken and crumble for dessert. Service was excellent, food was perfect, all our guests were delighted with the meal. All I can say is - highly recommended

This was my third time returning to Dobbins; and once again I was highly impressed. This was my first time eating off the early bird menu and although €20 cheaper the selection and standard was equally as impressive as any other night, definitely somewhere I would return, the lamb is definitely worth ordering...

We had our christmas party here for the third time. Really good quality & consistant food. Its a nice setting too. I went for the chicken salad to start and then beef steak for main. The steak was perfectly cooked but could possibly have done with a bit more sauce for added flavour. Chocolate cake to finish but i was full by this stage so it wasnt finished...consuption of wine may have had an effect on this! Reliable place anyway and a nice setting for christmas parties or office lunches.

We had the early-bird dinner menu at Dobbins a few weeks ago. It was our first time there and it definitely will not be our last. Everything was perfect! The cosy and relaxed atmosphere, the friendly staff, the great service & value and of course the absolutely yummy food! I think the early-bird menu is great value for money and definitely worth a visit! We can't wait to go back!

We had dinner here last night and I have to say I was disappointed. The staff were very friendly and professional as always, but there were several things that let it down. The main problem was that we ordered our food.. and had it served and eaten within 45mins!! Our starters arrived within 10 mins of ordering them, which was fine, but our main courses were in front of us not even five minutes after the starter had been cleared away. I got the impression it was a quiet night, and this was confirmed when,as we left at 2130, we walked out at the same time as the last pair of other diners. The starters were fine, but my monkfish was bland and uninteresting. My partners' duck was overcooked and I really resent having to pay 3.50 for vegetables when they are not exactly cheap main courses. Overall, for 2 starters, 2 main courses, a half bottle of wine and a side of potatoes, it was nearly 100 euros, which in my opinion was too steep for a mediocre, and rushed, dinner on a thursday night in Dublin.

This restaurant seems to have really got it right with their early bird as the place was packed when we were there. The food was top class and the service was good also. Will certainly be returning to this restaurant and hope they continue to thrive as we need more restaurants like this in the city!

Returned to Dobbins for a meal with friends on a Saturday night. Even with the restaurant being full everything went smoothly and it was a very enjoyable evening. I had the Tempura of Prawns and the Rib-Eye of Beef which was cooked beautifully. We all really enjoyed our meals and the food was excellent. I did feel that amount of food on the main course was on the small side. Again was not disappointed and will be returning again soon.

The best value Sunday Lunch in Dublin. It was my fourth visit to Dobbins for Sunday Lunch over the last 2 years and once again I came away saying that Dobbins is the jewel in the Dublin Sunday Lunch Crown. Fantastic food, well presented and well served all in a very cosy restaurant (last Sundays bonus for me was the fact that they were playing Pink Floyds Wish you were here album when we went in). We had crab salad and tempura prawns to start. Both were delicious and beautifully presented. My wife a big prawn fan said they were the best she ever had!). Mains were succulent pork belly and duck. Again both were absolutely delicious. We had a hot fudge cake and a mandarin creme brulee for dessert which were lovely. And all for €25 a head including coffee! A minor crib would be that I would like to see the staff smile a bit more and to see a few more locals on the floor. A Dublin restaurant should be staffed by plenty of locals who will add a bit more homeliness and atmosphere to the Dublin dining experience. In summary, Dobbins is fantastic restaurant to the degree that I give it a hats off for consistently fantastic value.

we were in Dobbins recently after a christening with 8 adults, 2 kids & 2 babies & the staff were so good & accommodating, especially given it was Sunday lunch & the place was buzy. The 2 kids were looked after very well. They got gorgeous big chicken goujons as opposed to the usual chicken nuggets & buttered pasta. The adults all enjoyed their food & there was a good selection for all palettes. The Sunday lunch is incredibly good value at €25. The only thing we were surprised at was they had no prosecco! So we opted for Tattinger which they gave us at a reduced price! We bought friends a voucher as a wedding present & we know we'll be back soon.

Ate here last week for a work Christmas dinner and had a great time. The restaurant was nice and the atmosphere was buzzing from the second I walked in. I had the Tempura of Prawns to start, followed by the crispy duck for main. Both dishes were absolutely delicious and cooked to perfection. The staff were nice and service was excellent. I thought the price was very reasonable for the quality of food and would definitely consider going back again

Was here for a night out with a group from work and it was fantastic!! The food was first class, the atmosphere was electric and the staff are so courteous. I had the seafood to start...so pretty to the eye...would have loved a little more of it...crispy duck for main and it was exactly that...crispy!...loved it cause usually it is just a little crispy but it was perfect! The dessert was a chocolate tart and followed by a coffee I was in heaven...definitely going back with my hubby for a meal so hope it will be just as nice...

The restaurant is tucked away on a little lane but easy enough to find. The dining room was certainly bustling; it was fun to be amongst such a hearty crowd, however some may find it a bit too loud, especially if seated in the middle of the room. We were a party of five and found the atmosphere very convivial – however we were seated at a six-person rectangular table, so our fifth member was somewhat of an odd man out. All the tables here seem to be banquettes or rectangles, so whilst a party of 3 would be comfortable in one of the banquettes, the seating is not conducive to larger groups of an odd number of people (odd as in 5/7/9, not odd as in strange!) I loved the succinct menu, which was short but had so many appetising options it took a while to choose. My meal of ham hock terrine, followed by duck and then chocolate tart was excellent and I appreciated the generous portions of the main course and dessert. All my companions loved their meals too. The staff were very attentive, though when we were nearing the end of our meal and finishing our wine, a fresh bottle was brought to our table and offered without our requesting it: this may seem like attentiveness to some and like a hard sell to others! Overall I rate Dobbins very highly indeed - I don’t think it would be as suited to solo diners, couples, or those with elderly guests who are hard of hearing, but I anticipate returning many times to dine with groups of friends.

I honestly can't say enough good about Dobbins - the food was amazing, the service was exceptional and the wine was very nice indeed! Went to Dobbins on Saturday night for a celebratory dinner and was delighted to be handed the early bird menu, 3 course meal plus tea/coffee all for €25!!! We couldn't believe it, easily would have paid double that!!! After being uncertain when the taxi man turned down that little alley, we were well and truly won over by the time we left! Dobbins has jumped straight to the top of my 'favourite restaurant list'!!! Already tryin te sell it to the girls for our christmas dinner!!!

Three of us had Sunday lunch here recently. The place is really cute & was hopping - but the tables are well-spaced so it wasn't too oppressive. The atmosphere did feel a bit stuffy, though. Which is about the only negative comment I have! The food was delicious - I had the tempura prawns to start which were smashing.. but despite their succulence I was so jelous when I grabbed a mouthful of my sister's crab salad! The lamb for main was really good - tender meat perfectly cooked. The duck was also great, the black sole goujons a little disappointing in size, but not in flavour. Desserts were all great. Service was good, if a little haphazard, with lots of waiter-changes! I thought it was great value at €25 a head for a three course lunch of this calibre. Although a glass of wine each hurt the bill significantly!

Best value lunch in Dublin.I love the fact that the same value is available also during the crazy Christmas season when most restaurants reduce choice and increase prices. Great menu- food tasty and well presented. Recommend the crab salad and the duck. You won't go wrong whatever dessert choice you make!

Viisted at lunchtime with a large group of colleagues from work. It was my first visit and I was surprised at the size of the Restaurant - far bigger than it looks from the outside. Celtic Tiger still seems to be roaring here - place was virtually full. Nice selection of breads on the table and jugs of iced water is always a promising start. My smoked chicken starter was fine but most of my colleagues went for the duck parcel which seemed to get a unanimous thumbs up. Deboned duck main course was very tasty - only problem was that it was not very well deboned. I discovered 4 or 5 nasty shards of bone. Followed this up with the sticky toffee pudding - a pale imitation of this traditional pud - no sign of any dates - just a piece of dry sponge with barely a spoonful of custard. The toffee sauce though was actually very good. Service generally OK although the waiters were way too keen to replenish our wine glasses every few minutes. This was even the case on at least two occasions even people did not require any further wine. This seems to be a common problem in Dublin when dining out in a large group. Overall though the set course lunch is pretty good value for money.

I went here on a Tuesday night with a group of people and was surprised to find it quite busy. There were baskets of bread on the table as soon as we arrived. I had the goats cheese starter, which was tasty but unfortunately the only vegetarian starter on offer. For main course I had the stuffed pepper, which was unlike any stuffed pepper I've had before. It was a tomato & rice dish with a roasted pepper at the bottom. It was still very tasty though but the portion could have been a little bigger. I wanted the belgian chocolate tart for dessert but they didn't have it so instead I went for a lemon tart. Again, this was incredibly tasty. Overall I really enjoyed the meal but I don't think it's somewhere I'd choose to go again because of the limited veggie options.

Had the 3 course set lunch here last week, is slightly expensive for a lunch at €22.50, but with 3 courses and tea or coffee included it is good value. For starters we had vegetable soup which my friend enjoyed but i wasn't keen on, a small seafood platter, and a goats cheese tarte tatin which was delicious. There was no vegetarian option on the set menu so when I informed the server I ordered the stuffed roasted pepper off the a la carte menu which was very nice, and the others had fish goujons which were apparently delicious. The meals came with sides as well; carrot & parsnip mash and fried potato cubes. For dessert I had sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce, which was very nice, especially the sauce, however the middle was slightly dry which ruined it a bit. Wine list is also good however is expensive. Overall a nice quiet relaxed place for a nice lunch, would like to try dinner there some time.

quite difficult to spot if you don't know exactly where it is but have to say that the food is rather good. The fillet steak was indeed well cooked (a decent medium rare), crab as starter was fine balance of different flavours, cake and orange sorbet was light and fruity to finish off a lovely meal. Service attentive and precise (they covered my part of the table before the dessert with a clean napkin since there was a tiny food spot). The downside is the price, it's quite expensive, especially the wine list. However the food is pretty good

What the heck.....why o why have I not been here before? I have always heard good things about Dobbins. Time now to put the demon to rest and GO!! So we booked the excellent value early bird to have a gander. Our reception was a bit off...not warm at all. Anyway, shrug it off and get to the real part! I just love the restaurant, my kind of décor/atmosphere...very nice indeed. We were seated to the rear by the courtyard... bright and quiet. Top service...prompt, efficient and not in your face.My lovely young delicious GF had chicken noodle for starters. Nicely cooked but nothing special. The chicken terrine for me was chilled so much the flavours were totally lost.Very unappetising. My 1st choice of rare duck didn't happen. I was told it can't be served pink. Why ever not? The ONLY way to eat duck is....pink. My suggested main of rare lamb rump was very good indeed. My Gf's organic salmon was....just OK. Desserts of sticky toffee pudding..bit dry... and chocolate torte...excellent! A half bottle of Cotes de Ventoux was just perfect and a lovely smooth fresh wine.

Four of us booked for a Saturday night early bird special @ €25 for two courses. We had apertifs, two bottles of wine and starters, mains and desserts and the bill came in at €200 inc. service, so no complaints on the value front. The food on the other hand got a mixed review, with some of the dishes being better than others. I had their seafood sausage starter which was a bit bland and had a slightly greasy taste to it. My pork belly main was excellent. One of the other diner's found her fish main somewhat underwhelming - Hake Tempura with curry oil. She described it as essentially fish and chips without the chips. The fish was lovely, with mushy peas but the curry oil was nowhere in evidence. The duck was praised by one of our group and puddings were generally well met. We had a booth across from the serving hatch and the buzz in the restaurant was good. The waiters seem to have a tendency to top up your glass with over-zealous frequency. My glass was topped up a second time within 5 minutes and I hadn't drank from it. Perhaps a little eager to sell you an extra bottle of wine?

We had are meal at lunch time in a very busy restaurant and they allowed us to sit at the table for a long period after the dinner. Food was excellent, service very good and overall it was very good value for money. We were all very satisfied.

Could not find anything to complain about. The atmosphere and service was fantastic. The staff could not be more helpful. We had the early bird (Sirloin Beef is an extra 6 service. All other dishes are 25 euro pp). Well worth it though. Really tasty food and would have no problem recommending this restaurant to my friends. We will be back!

We visited Dobbin's to avail of their early bird offering; we were nicely surprised to see it available on a Saturday. On etnering, we were greeted by a lovely hostess who promptly gave us a small table without reservations. Menus brought very soon after, along with two baskets of delicious warm bread. I chose the ham hock with foie gras to start. This had alot going on, and included some chicken which I felt did not blend with the dish. However, on the whole it was very enjoyable and stimulating to the taste buds. My partner chose the seafood sausage, which was enjoyed thouroughly. (I had a taste and found it to be a little fishy, but then I dislike crab in general so cannot blame the chef!) Our mains were superb. My fellow diner chose the duck, which was proclaimed as the best duck he has eaten. I chose the pork belly, which was extremely tasty, but while it was slow cooked some of the fat had not dissolved completely as it should. This came with a pumpkin puree which worked beautifully. We also received a side dish of veg and one of potatoe, being kindly offered to ask for more if desired. The veg were cooked to perfection in light oil. The potatoes were fried and a little disappointing but did not have a huge impression on the meal in its entirety. Both deserts were fantastic, I had the rasberry/apple and almond financier which I managed to finish because it was so flavoursome he even though I was quite full. My partner's desert was much savoured also, though I cannot recall what he chose. The meal was finshed off with two perfectly acceptable coffees. Although we did not partake, the wine list is excellent. Friendly service, relaxed atmosphere, and excellent quality food at unbeatable value is what we received from Dobbins, and we will definitely be returning for more!

Eaten here often (lunches and dinners). As ever, the service is damn-near faultless. Great food. Awesome fines. Fine cigars, with somewhere covered (outside) where they can be enjoyed with a final(?) cognac.

I'll definitely be coming back here. The crew from work went to Dobbins for lunch. Service was warm and friendly, as was the atmosphere of the place. The lunch menu provides excellent value with a good range acroos three courses. The food was excellent too. I had a goat's cheese starter - a tasty blend of strong flavours - followed by a sirloin of beef. Delicious! A colleague's choice of the lamb main course left me wishing I had room for second helpings. Nonetheless I managed to soldier on thru a sticky toffee pudding smothered in butterscotch sauce. Yum!

Sunday Lunch - PERFECT. Went here yesterday 5 girls for a long sunday lunch. Got in at 1.30 and stayed til 4pm. No-one rushed us, the staff were friend, food was delicious and great quality for all of us. The portion sizes were big too! :) Mix of starters from soup/ballotine of poached salomn (huge for starter), duck roll was stuffed with lots of meat. The mains were really big and couldn't finish them all, we'd the Hake which was really fluffy and light, the lamb was cooked perfectly and the chicken was very tasty... the desserts were to die for and a good mix, choc tart is quite rich choc but not real heavy. stick toff pudding perfect, pavalova was just the right size. Food, service, value, atmosphere - nothing could be faulted. (One little complaint that it was a bit cold and their was a draft from the front coming down into the restaurant!)

This is a real "suits" venue so a lunch with the girls was an experience! Women feel like a slightly endangered species as its full of businessmen doing deals or pretending to! Extension of the golf course really. Lovely venue though, I imagine that it'd be great at night with the booths and stone walls. Good food and wine, great fresh fish the day we were there and nice attentive service ( though it wasn't packed). Good and not too expensive wine list. All in all a happy lunch experience

I have eaten here on a number of occasions over the years. The food is always good, no problem there at all but this time we felt that the service was a bit rushed. We were in at 8 so there wasn't any pressure on us time wise, they took a while to take our order in the first place but then if we hadn't asked for time between main and dessert we might have been out of there by about 9. I think we stretched to about 10 in the end and the restaurant was only half full if that when we were going. I'm sure that is a sign of the times and I hope Dobbins survives becuase it deserves to. Just don't rush us the next time!

Ate here for the first time in two years last week and could not get over how different and yet the same the place was. The menu offers superb lunchtime value. The duck parcel i had to start was ok but I had severe food envy for the haddock starter. It looked creamy and rich and my three guests raved about it. My sirloin steak (EUR6 Supplement) was perfectly cooked and my dessert of sticky toffee pudding was perfection. the wine list is very reasonable with a very good chablis offered at a discount price of 32.50. all in all, a three course lunch for four plus tea/coffees and three bottles of wine including service was EUR220. You simply cant fault it for value and quality.

I came here last week with some work colleagues. The atmosphere and menu were most impressive. The food was very good, EXCEPT that there was a hair in the vegetables. The waiter offered an alternative and we accepted but no further apology or compensation was offered. We all agreed that a small token of recognition would have been nice. I don't think any of us would go back now.

A great restaurant! The food is delicious, steak melts in your mouth and I'm told the monkfish is lovely but I don't eat seafood myself. The sticky toffee pudding is gorgeous comfort food. Portions are really generous which is unusual in this kind of restaurant. Service is excellent, no complaints at all! This was my second visit and I'll definitely be back.

Our 1st visit to Dobbins was for my birthday. Never having been before I was a little surprised by its location. You would definately not just happen upon it. We decided to have the early bird as we were going elsewhere when we finished our meal. Not a lot I would particularly choose on the starter list but opted for the smoked chicken salad. A generous portion and Mr. Boop chose the seafood sausage, but a little too strong even for him. However my main of Belly pork was delicious as was his fish dish. We were totally full and only had the desserts as they were included. Both lovely, the brulee and the toffee pudding but could only finish half. The service was fine, there when you needed it but not in your face. My one complaint would be that the place is virtually pitch black. I like low lighting but I could hardly see my food on the plate the place was so dim. They really need a little more lighting.

The last time I was here was in 1997 & to be honest I couldn't tell you what it was like back then. I was invited to a retirement Sunday lunch here and all in all enjoyed it a lot. Let's get the few negatives out of the way, 1) the service was slow but very friendly; 2) My partners pork belly was a bit stringy. On the plus side, the decor was very nice and there was a buzz in the place (it was full). My tempura Dublin Bay prawns were excellent followed by a steak that was a little tough. Regardless, the main thing here is the value - €25 for three courses with coffee - go visit. .

Had heard some great things about this place and wasn't disappointed. Its a bit far out from the main city centre (you would need a taxi in heels) but it is well worth it. The atmosphere is great and the staff are fantastic, they are very attentive but not in your face. Had tempura prawns to start with which were great, nice and light and then had steak as the mains which was cooked perfectly. They did give me the wrong dessert but i didnn't complain as what they gave me was really good. Overall would reccomend this place.

Really enjoyed my visit here, was looking forward to it because had heard good reviews and it didnt dissapoint. Had to wait ten minutes before our table was free as we were der for the last sitting but aside from that, the service was excellent.Would definately recommend the prawns to start, my partner had them and they were amazing, melted in mouth, I had the duck spring rolls which were very tasty also.I had the steak for mains, which was cooked perfectly for me. Finished with the almond and plum tart which would throughly recommend; was fabulous. All in all a very enjoyable evening.

We went as a large group for a work dinner on a Thursday night. We had a reservation for 6:30 so i think we got an early bird menu which was very reasonably priced for what you get. Meals are filling and very nice. The only thing I was a little dissapointed with was the Pavlova. It was very busy the night we went with quite a lot of large groups, probably not the best for a romantic meal. But nice for a group of people.

I work close by and this is my favourite restaurant for a special work lunch. Myself and colleagues come here 3 or 4 times a year to get a break from the office canteen and enjoy a long leisurely chat over lunch. The food (especially the deserts) and the service is impeccable and it's excellent value for money.

We went for the early bird on a Friday, food was fantastic, if you're going would recommend the duck, it was melt in the mouth....best I have ever had! Thought it was really good value at €25.00 pp with a 10% service charge, was recommended the sticky toffee pudding by our waitress and she was right it was fab. Staff friendly and polite, will definately be back.

Visited Dobbins on Saturday night last for a friends belated birthday treat and what a treat. Food was amazing very tasty from start to finish. Very reasonably priced at €45 each for full dinner - didn't even mind the 10% service charge as the service was excellent. I guarantee I will be back - good advice also when we were settling the bill - early bird menu available and good Sunday lunch - am booking soon for Sunday lunch!!! Atmosphere was great too - restaurant was busy but very comfortable and no fuss about vacating the table. Really impressed.

Expensive! We went for the early bird menu which is advertised at € 25 however there is a 10% service charge on this. The food was lovely and the service fine. However the house wine at € 37.50 a bottle ( the cheapest bottle available) came with sedement in the bottom which was a little off putting and it wasn't just in one bottle but in the two we ordered. Won't be in any hurry back!

I ate here a few Saturdays ago on a match night. The food was okay but the service was awful. The meal came to nearly over 340eu for four of us and we did not even get a "thank you" on leaving. Was disappointed as I had heard so many good reviews about the place, but this is not what I found.

Have been here a couple times for the set lunch menu with work colleagues. Definitely recommend this - the value for money is incredible! The ambiance is very nice, soothing, private and generally lush. The service is impeccable - can't be faulted and the presentation is delightful. Had the seafood appetizer and loved it but all the others are so good too. Loved the pork belly so much I had it twice but the second time I specifically asked for a less fatty piece and they were happy to accommodate. The crackling. Oh the crackling. The orange creme brulee was another deja vu item which, goodness gracious, was too heavenly for words, especially when it came accompanied by a lovely little orange sorbet in a whimsical candy lattice bowl. I'm drooling just thinking about it...

Went to Dobbins with four other friends last night to sample the early bird menu, I have to say I really was impressed by the whole ''Dobbins Experience'', the staff were extremely friendly when greeting us and the table service was both effecient and attentive. I had the smoked salmon starter and as a main the goujons of lemon sole with tartar sauce which was delicious, I couldnt leave without trying the renowned 'Sticky Toffee Pudding'' whihc certainly didnt disappoint. Everyone was really impressed with the cuisine at Dobbins and I will certainly be going back in the near future!!

Hi, I have eaten at Dobbins quite alot but always have had the early bird or else the lunch set menu. I think both of these are good value for money and the service has always been excellent. My team in work decided on a spur of the moment late lunch and we rang to book at 2.20p.m., 10 mins before their lunch service was finishing. They were very obliging and said they could fit us in. It was the Friday before the Ireland and England match and the place was buzzing, the atmosphere was great. We didnt have long to wait and were seated at a nice booth. I had the mussels to start which were lovely and then the breaded plaice for a main which were also very tasty and well presented. I went for the meringue for dessert which was really nice and came without much cream, if any, which suits me as I dont like cream. Lunch was €25.85 per person and well worth it in my opinion!

Booked a table with my girlfriend here for valentines night. Had heard some pretty good review of the place so was really looking forward to a good meal. I knew it would be expensive but we don't buy presents or anything for valentines day, this was our treat. To be honest, it was quite a let down. Yes it was valentines night, but I felt completely anonymous in the place, the waiters were rushed off their feet, stressing themselves and everyone around them. We were rushed to our table and reminded we need to leave by X O' clock. It was very impersonal. The food was ok. It was nothing special, definitely not worth the money we were paying. Mind you the only option was to order from the set menu, which was €45 a head. I thought there could have been a better selection, but obviously given the night they decided to make it easier on themselves. There was notably extra seating made to take advantage of the occasion. For starter I ordered the duck spring rolls. They were quite rich and tasty plus generous with the duck meat but thats as good as it got all night. We didn't have a chance to blink before our main meals were out, yes this night was all about the profits. I ordered a steak but it was nothing to write home about, not cooked the way I ordered it, and I decided not to send it back since I knew I would be waiting a long time and my girlfriend would be well finished her meal. The fried potatoes were quite tasteless and average. Ordered the sticky toffee pudding for desert but I'm sorry not even something as sweet as this could change my opinion of this night. We may return to give it another chance, but maybe we'll pick an evening where there will be a little more emphasis on the satisfaction of the customer, not the till.

The food in here is excellent. The lunch time menu is great value. The dinner menu is a little on the pricey side but the food is great. You must try the sticky toffee pudding, it is the best you will ever taste. As I have eat here many times the food will never disappoint you but the service may.

Went for an Early Bird last night and was pleasantly surprised. The service was good, although we did feel a little rushed. The portion size was good too. Only complaint was that the rump of lamb was a little overcooked. Good value for money on the early bird!

I was here with my boyfriend for our Valentines meal on the 13th. Had never even heard about this place before we booked - we picked it from the menu pages Top 10. We were really impressed and will definitely be back. Lovely place. I had Tempura Prawns and the other half had the mussels to start. Both starters were delicious, and of a decent size. For mains, i had the fillet of beef and he had the monkfish. Beef was really good, cooked to perfection! The other half was a little disappointed with his - the monkfish was good, bit it was served with a crab canneloni which was covered with a curry sauce which he said ruined it all completely. Like something you'd get from a chipper with the sauce all over it. Desserts were lovely and good selection of wines. Highly recommended by us!

I tried this restaurant with a few friends. I was expecting great things, but what I got was fairly mediocre. I went for the pre-theatre menu, and my starter was the duck springroll which was nice. My maincourse was belly of pork and it was very disappointing, overly fatty and almost tasteless. If I came back here again it would only be for the delicious sticky toffee pudding in butterscotch sauce that I got for desert. The overall experience was nice, but no more than that.

If you have not tried it book today. Last night we booked Dobbins for the pre-theatre meal. It was a memorable experience. The service was excellent but unobtrusive. The food was sublime. To start I have the smoked haddock linguine. It was perfect. The pasta was perfectly cooked, the sauce was light, yet creamy, the haddock was delicious. Divine. My companion had the seafood sausage, which was very tasty but had a spongy texture. A tiny complaint. On to the mains. Oh, what a treat. It is rare that one gets such a fantastic dish. I have the crispy duck breast. I cannot describe how wonderful it was - moist, crispy and such a fantastic, delicate taste. It was on a par, flavour and tenderness wise with wild duck that is high and gamey. I could eat Dobbins duck every day and not tire of it. My friend had the slow roast belly of pork, which again was outstanding - crispy crackling with soft, melt in the mouth meat. To die for! For desert I had the sticky toffee pudding. Not being much of a desert person I advanced with caution but was be delighted. Again, sublime. My friend had the creme brulee - perfectly presented - set, at room temperature with a crisp, caramelised surface. This was served with a delicious mango sorbet. 10/10 for Dobbins. I will be back as soon as I get the chance. Value wise - 84 Euro for two for a fantastic three course meal, bottle of wine and service charge - how could you go wrong?

Had lunch in Dobbins today with 3 friends and it was faultless. Four quality courses for €23.50 from the generous table d'hote menu was excellent value. There was a choice of 5/6 items for the starter and main courses. We had the seafood sausage and the smoked haddock pasta as starters and all four of us had different mains. I had the pork belly and my friends had lamb, salmon and duck. We were all well pleased with our choices. Desserts were creme caramel and cherry and almond tart. Presentation of all dishes was superb and the service was pleasant and timely. Service charge was included in the bill to which we added a little extra to express our appreciation of an excellent meal in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Went for Sunday lunch with my family yesterday. We've been on many occasions and always enjoy it, although this time I was more than a little disappointed with the level of service. Basic service errors which you would expect at a much lesser respected restaurant. Service was very brash and rushed, waiters were very unfriendly and taking plates from the table while others are still eating is the most basic and unforgiving of errors. Fabulous food and great value @ €25 for 3 courses - Genuine shame about the service.

We ate in Dobbins in early Dec for a birthday night out. I found the service to be top notch and extremely solicitous. The food was excellent and delicious. I really enjoyed our night in Dobbins and I would like to return at some point.

Went to the long established Dobbins for a work related event last night and was very much looking forward to it as it has been on my wish list for some time now. As far as food was concerned, it hit the spot – the food was really good, between us we order a varied selection from all courses and there were empty plates and smiley faces with one or two satisfied pats of the belly all round.. very enjoyable. What wasn’t enjoyable was being squeezed into a long, canteen style table (obviously a rearranged floor plan for the Christmas demand) situated so close to the one behind and ahead that it was almost difficult to navigate your way in at all ! I was seated at the end of the table and squashed up again an empty redundant booth – which was almost depressing. I’m not sure I saw any of the staff smile and our waiter, obviously safe in the knowledge that his tip was secure in the services charge, decided it was unnecessary to conduct any of the pleasantries normally associated with dining. It kind of left me feeling disappointed, I feel almost cheated by the poor level of service.

I was here for Lunch in early November and was suprised at how busy it was. Have to say the food was really nice and we had the lunch set menu. The pork belly was especially nice. I think that Dobbins has lost some of it's atmosphere since they did it up but it does feel a good deal "cleaner" now.

Somewhere we'd wanted to get to over the years but have just been for first time and although it hard to find it was a revelation.Reasonably priced with superb service and extremely attentive to children's needs.Truly a magical evening and a well thought out menu. When we next over in Dublin will definitely be eating here again.

An excellent location for a large group. Dobins were fantastic in dealing with our group of 30+ people. The staff were efficient and professional, both when arranging our booking and on the night in question. The food was of a very high standard, excellently presented and wonderfully flavoured - the steak was beautiful and the duck also went down very well. The set dinner manu really is excellent value considering the standard of food and service, I will definitely return and would highly recommend.

I came here for an early bird dinner and wasn't disappointed. The choice on the menu was fantastic and well balanced, and the food that I eventually decided on was superb. The wait-staff were attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. My only complaint would be the heat of the restaurant, it was absolutely roasting inside.

I went to Dobbins for a Christmas late lunch recently and was surprised by how good the food was and also how much there was. It wasn't a small lunch portion which I half expected with the price being so good. The wine menu is dangerous if you don't check the prices but there some lovely wine for decent enough prices. Very enjoyable meal. My only problem was that we were very much on top of those around us. It is probably to do with the time of year but it was packed and felt a bit full. The food & service more than made up for that small complaint though.

Had dinner with a big group in Dobbins today and it was excellent. I don't give it 5 stars for atmosphere as we were upstairs and the room (which only has windows on one side was a bit cramped. I had the smoked salmon to start and it was lovely. I never find much variety in smoked salmon but it was with a lovely garnish and capers which added to it very well. The selection of breads were also very nice. As a main I had the Wicklow lamb. This was tender and well cooked. It came with a very nice gravy and on a bed of mashed potato. One of the best things was the quantity. It was as if the meal was tailored for me. I was well-satisfied and yet I had plenty room for either a sticky toffee pudding or the pavlova. In the end I went for the pavlova which was an individual portion of meringue with a mix of berries. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Espresso was just OK, I have certainly had better and the house red was very respectable. I will certainly be back, but maybe not recommending it for large groups, at least if it was my choice, I'd ask not to be seated upstairs unless privacy was important.

I had dinner in Dobbins last week with a few friends. The place was packed, what recession ?? I had never been before and i wasnt dissapointed . The food was lovely and the servive was very good. main courses are not served with potatoes or vegetables which always annoys me but the portions of food were good. i particularly liked the baileys and hazelnut parfait , yum yum. I'll be back.

I was looking forward to going back to Dobbins having eaten there a few years ago. The food was so good then I still remember what I had. Unfortunetaly at the time, it felt like eating in a tunnel. Well, the place has certainly changed: very modern looking and a lot more cosy & confortable. The food and the service were good. My duck spring roll was full of duck and my steak cooked to perfection. A few minor negative points: the place was extremely noisy, the pizza bread in the bread basket is a great idea but it needs to come warm. Also, can no restaurant be a bit more creative when it comes to vegetable: enough of the boiled potatoes, beans, carrots & peas! And I am suprised the refurbishment did not include a proper cloakroom... Other than this: you can't go wrong with Dobbins!

Dined here for my sons graduation. We went for early bird menu as it seemed good value for money. The food was lovely and the service second to none. My only tiny fault was if you didn’t like red meat or fish, you had very little choice left as there wasn’t any chicken on the menu. I went for the fish and it was lovely. The steak was as it should be I was told and the duck was delicious. All in all we had a great meal with a lovely bottle of wine and a little brandy to finish off. Superb.

Went to Dobbins yesterday for Sunday lunch with 5 others for a family meal. The €25 per head 3 course meal is excellent value. The starters included prawn tempura, goats cheese tart and duck spring roll which were all delicious. There was also a good selection of mains including various dishes containing duck , beef and lamb. My beef was cooked to my taste but was about one third of it was fat which was a disappointment. The desserts were the real highlight though with the chocolate mousse and sticky toffee pudding the stand outs. I've never been disappointed here.

Had lunch here today.Only had time for 2 courses but as set menu (3 courses for €23.50) had better selection we opted for this. Would probably be better if they had 2 course option for 20 and 3 for 23.50 as not everybody will want or have time for 3 courses on a Monday. Both of us had smokies (smoked haddock with cheese/leeks etc) for starters. Delicious. I had lamb which was beautifully cooked and was combo of rump and cutlet. This was served on bed of mash with red wine jus, pearl onions & pepper tapenade. My guest had tempura of monkfish which was served with mushy peas. Both dished were accompanied by side order of potatoes/veg. Service was very good. Place was a bit quiet but nice ambiance despite this. I would certainly return for lunch again.

I've been to Dobbins three times in the last year and each time I've found the food to be excellent and the staff to be very attentive. Each time I have been to Dobbins it has been for lunch and have had the set menu which is good value for money at about €25 for 3 courses. The menu hasn't varied much in the last year but each time the food is prepared to an extremely high standard. Highly recommended

Dobbins is a great restaurant if you like your wine (great selection) and like to treat yourself. They dealt with our large party (16) very well and we never felt rushed or like we were imposing. Everyone's food was well received and arrived out reasonably close together time-wise for such a large party. As another poster said, it is very cramped if you've got to navigate your way towards the back of the restaurant, and at the prices they charge for food a few less tables might not be too much to ask! I would definitely go back to Dobbins.

Staff were super friendly and the food was absolutely delicious. Unfortunately there was a lot of meat and salmon left over as portions were large and they wouldn't let us take it home for the dog. They agreed that it was just going to go in the bin but weren't allowed to wrap it up for me. Other than that would most defnitly go back.

Dined here recently with a group. Service was of a good standard, food was only "Ok" for the price they are charging. I had the Prime Fillet of Irish Hereford Beef which comes in at Euro 39.95, was not worth it, had much better for less. Overall it was an ok experience, maybe not great for groups, they have nice private booths which sit 2-4 people. I won't return, only as value for money not quite there for my liking.

A group of nine of us went for Sunday lunch and although we had heard good reports of Dobbins, were disappointed after our experience. The weather was very hot and we were seated in the back area which had a lot of glazing. Apparently their awning had a fault so they couldn't let down the blinds to give any shade at the back so we were in the blazing heat. Everyone was so hot to the point of uncomfortable. The food was mediocre compared to other establishments I've been too especially for the price paid. I asked for the prawn cocktail starter with the dressing to be served on the side only for the waitress to come and say it wasn't possible as it had already been made up - I have never experienced this before!! Also I asked for my main course, the panfried salmon to be grilled yet when it arrived it so obviously had been fried as it was dripping in oil. My husband asked for a well done steak only for it to be quite pink in the middle and one of the other guys in our party had the pork belly and 1/3 of it was fat. Most of the party thought the mains were okay but nothing to rave about. For our wine selection they also didn't have the one we chose, which they should have mentioned before we ordered and not after we had made the choice. Also, although it seems very popular for families don't bring your baby in a pushchair or you'll end up having to lift it over rows of tables if seated at the back as they certainly cram the tables in - there's only room for one person to pass through so it's single file only, you have to give way to oncoming traffic!! The only saving grace was the dessert which was quite tasty. Unfortunately because of our experience I won't be going back there or recommending to friends.

We had the 3 course early bird menu for 25 euro. Many restaurants could learn from such a varied good value menu. I had smokies to start. They were very nice but not a patch on Edens infamous dish! My main course of salmon was well cooked and seasoned but I would have liked more of the promised chorizo. My desert was an excellent creme brulee. Service was good but not perfect. This is well worth a visit.

I've to Dobbins two times ans every time it was excellent: food, service & atmosphere. The food is excellent. The bacon, avocado and asparagus salad was delicious as so was the prawn starter -this one was to die for. I had the monkfish and my partner had the steak and both of them were cooked to perfection and nicely served. Great wine selection. I will be definitely going back there.

We had previously booked in the entire family for an excellent Confirmation day celebration and it was so great that we had no hesitation in returning, just the two of us, for our anniversary. Again, everything was excellent. For such high quality on the set evening menu and an excellent bottle of French house wine we couldn't ask for better at about €100 in total. We noticed a large group of French and Irish ordering the same wine and they seemed quite pleased. Goats cheese and fish smokies to start were wonderful. Two steak main courses were cooked to perfection and the strawberry deserts were beautiful. No rush, no fuss, no experimenting, no problems with service, nothing negative at all to report. A lovely experience and we will be back. Well done and thank you Dobbins.

Dobbins is a great restaurant, though in a hard to find location! The food and service are both excellent here and the value is good if you go for an early bird special set menu at €25 per person - the variety of foods available is great!

went for dinner a deux here last night for 8pm. Lovely welcome and prompt seating with a recommendation given for a main course. The advised dish was hake which Mr. had and enjoyed thoroughly. I had suckling pig which was great. Service was efficient but not intrusive and dishes were served nice and warm. Had 2 starters, mains, desserts, accompaniments x3, and a bottle of wine which came to a reasonable 164. would highly recommend.

I had the pleaure of being in Dobbins last Saturday night and we enjoyed a wonderful meal and service. Starters were good - I had the goats cheese samosas and the beetroot and red pepper relish complimented the sharp cheese. My wife had the smoked salmon with guacamole and sour cream - nice but it never mentioned that the smoked salmon was cooked....we saw a number being returned and I would say purely for this reason....put it on the menu that it's cooked, she enjoyed it nonetheless. The mains of monkfish and rack of lamb were perfectly cooked as requested and the service was unobtrusive but attentive at all times. Would recommend a visit and cant wait to return....when my sister offers to babysit next!

Was here for the lunch menu on Sunday (3 courses - €25). I had the Avacado & Asparagus Salad to start which was delicious, The beef for mains - mine was lovely but my friends piece of meat was quite fatty unfortunately, guess i was lucky! Finished with Sticky toffee pudding - nice. We had a few glaases of the prosecco which was actually really really tasty compared to some proseccos i have tasted. The service was good, no issues and we were served promptly even though they had a party of about 25 in sitting down the back.

Had wonderful meal here last fri night. Was seated in one of the booths at the wall. Service was perfect. Wine list was good but a bit lacking in description, probably could have asked but like to be able to compare in own time. Food beautiful starters of smoked salmon was fab little peices worked so well together. Mains just lovely Lamb perfect as was Duck. Veg was nicely served too. Runner beans small carrotts and peas and we ordered crispy potatoes and baby potatoes both fab. The dessert is where it is most remembered for The hot chocolate fondant with rasberries said please allow 12 mins and it was worth waiting for. Beautifully crafted and fab taste. As Dublin restaurants go and the prices that are charged in some newer ones. I found this at €140 for 4 courses and 2 glasses of wine good for a treat.

I went for a business lunch as a guest of a business associate last week. My initial impression wasn't great. to be honest this restaurant suffered from the problem of too many chefs spoiling the broth. There was a multitude of serving staff and this led to a large amount of confusion and duplication. A good example being that we were asked if we wanted a drink having just ordered one and this occurred throughout the meal. I had the overnight roast pork but there was too much fat. That said it was very tasty and excellent value at lunch time. Overall the atmosphere was lacking but the lunch was very acceptable at the price

I came here a few weeks ago with my husband for lunch. It was the first time I was here and i must say, I loved it. It has a great ambience. Once you got past the maitre d at the entrance who was quite unfriendly, the staff were lovely. The quality of the food was excellent. It's a real hide out. Will definitely be going back.

Was back here at the end of February and have to save it was fab as always - we were having a girlie lunch and were allowed take our time at the table. Food was fab service was top class - can't complain about it. Haven't been in the evenings yet someday! I've been here a number of times for lunch with work before and after they renovated and I've loved every visit - staff are always so lovely - will definitely be going back again. It would be nice if they change the set lunch menu every now and again. The set lunch menu is excellent value. It’s a place you go to when not in a rush.

I have eaten here on numerous occasions but the last 3 occasions have been very disappointing. (I am referring to lunchtimes and early bird meals by the way - I cannot comment on the evening dining). The meat is often tough, the veg is scarce ( one plates of veg and one plate of potatoes is just not enough for seven people!)On the last 2 trips there we had to ask for more. The "Sumo" chips are always uncooked in the middle so inevitably get left on the plate. The carrots are unpeeled and are NOT topped and toed - in other words you get the WHOLE carrot.- Is this fasionable or just lazy???? The potatoes are plain boiled - they are ok but what happened to the delicious saute potatoes you always used to serve aswell? The peas are like little bullets. My work colleagues and I used to really, really rate Dobbins as the best place around here to eat but now we no longer go there.

Found this place on this website and decided to chance it for St. Valentines Night. Booked an early dinner at 6pm to leave enough time to eat and get to the NCH for a concert. Upon arrival we were a bit dubious as we were the only diners, but we were shown to a booth and the attentive service made it feel like I'd booked the entire place for ourselves. Even the lady came by to make the same comment! We started with foie gras for me, and Dublin Bay prawns for my SO, which she loved. Foie gras isn't really my thing but I was feeling posh and it was excellent quality. The glass of white wine was good too. About 7pm the place started filling up, but we didn't notice because we were too busy tucking into our mains; pan-fried monkfish for her, and Wicklow lamb for me. Everything was really well presented and excellently cooked. We topped off with desert - she choose some sort of chocolate orgasm-on-a-plate, and I went for the rhubarb crumble, which was delicious. The coffee wasn't bad neither. An excellent dinner, excellent service, excellent atmosphere, and a reasonable price. As always, the quick and attentive service shone.

Have eaten here regularly for lunch so tried it for dinner on Fri evening. Could book for 8pm and did not have to finish at a particular time. Service was very good with little interruption by the staff but enough to know they were there within a blink of the eye if required. Had the crab meat to start and the monk fish for mains. Both were well presented and very tasty. Colleague had goats cheese and vegetarian risotto and both were also tasty. Bit disappointed there was only one veggie option on menu but waiter also checked with chef and another was offered... perhaps if two or more were on menu veg eater may have been happier! Overall very satisfied with meal and of course and excellent wine selection. Will be back.

We ate here last week and the food was excellent, however, the closeness of the tables and noise in the restaurant took away from the experience. We were unfortunate enough to be seated at a booth beside several large tables of a work party. The tables were on top of the booth and it was awkward for both us and the waiting staff to move around with any comfort. We would go back for the food but at a less busy time of year.

Had excellent lunch in Dobbins yesterday. Goats cheese to start was delicious and beautifully served, then salmon to follow. Dessert was the highlight! Only critisism is no veggie option on menu.

Has a superb lunch here with a couple of pals. The quality of the food was excellent from our starters through to dessert. Service was great and although our food came out quickly we were unrushed throughout although we did wait a long time for our bill at the end. The only gripe was that our table was in front of the kitchen so we had waiting staff hanging around us but other than that everything really was excellent and I look forward to going back.

Excellent for lunch. Had two pre Christmas lunches here and it must be the best lunch venue in Dublin. The food is excellent, there is a very large selection with big portions, the room has good atmosphere (though not as good as it used to have) and for 4 courses for 25 euro it is hard to beat. Well worth a look.

I went here just before christmas for my work x-mas party. The food was very nice. I had the avocado and asparagus salad with roquefort to start. It was just what you want in a starter not too big and not too filling and it tasted lovely. I had the grilled sole for my main with veggies on the side. The fish didn't blow me away. It was alright. Everyone else's mains looked and smelled nicer! I had a pina colada parfait for dessert and this was gorgeous. Actually I tried everyone's dessert at the table and all were lovely! Would love to come here again!

Have dined here on a number of occasions over the years, but I still prefer the old Dobbins (more character), even thought they have rebuilt, the food is excellent and Sunday lunch is excellent value. Dined here on Friday, food wise no complaints, because of the time of year Christmas parties were been accommodated. The tables were right up beside the booths and the noise level high. I ordered the quail to start and the lamb cutlets for mains, great flavour, too full to order dessert. For the excellent food and service you do pay. This restaurant is suitable for all occasions. Dobbins is one of a few restaurants in Dublin you must try at least once. I look forward to my next return with less volume.

Ate here for an aniversary and was a bit disappointed. The atmosphere and set-up of the place is really nice but my main course left a lot to be desired. I had the monkfish which was slightly curried and over cooked. Monkfish is a difficult dish to get right but for the price you pay, you expect them to get it perfect. It was only a small detail in what was otherwise a very enjoyable meal, but I couldn't help coming away feeling slightly cheated. I would have to be coerced into going back again, especially if I was paying.

Had a lovely night here recently. Staff were very friendly and extremely professional which sometimes can be hard to put together well. Food was of a very high standard. Initially thought it was expensive but on reflection it was not and worth ever penny. No music but no need as there is a good buzz.

The food here is fab and a nice treat. A 3 course sunday lunch is very good value at only 25 euro a head. The sticky toffee pudding is to die for, so delicious!!! Overall a great restaurant with great food and great service and I would definitely revisit!

Was not impressed last nite here. The place is far too noisy with tables on top of each other. 36 euro for a dover sole I think is scandalous, and that was without veg or potato! When I asked if I might have some chilli sauce I was presented with ketchup! Chablis premier cru was delicious, but at a whopping 55 euro it would want to be. Overall food was only mediocre, prices crazy, and they need to learn the difference between a jar of ketchup and a homemade chilli sauce, because the customer does. The only plus was the friendly staff.

Quality but expensive. Ate here last Friday night 13/07/2007. Food was of very high standard but we agreed a little too expensive for what it was. Food very tasty, well prepared, presented and cooked but nothing extraordinary. Desserts are excellent however. Would recommend Chocolate Fondant. Service was good but nothing extraordinary due to 10% service charge payable. Was also a little noisy for those wanting a romantic dinner

Booked dinner for two on Saturday night, had booked the table on Monday of that week, so was a bit disappointed to find ourselves seated upstairs, the room sat around 15-20 people, but we were placed right beside the door staring at a stack of chairs. The service was excellent with a smile although we had to ask for the wine list, and taking our order took a while. But the food was excellent, the lamb and duck mains were well presented and side orders too very good, good selection of wines and very enjoyable overall, seemed to be an older crowd in the restaurant, not too many 30 something’s to be seen.

We arrived at 7.00pm and were seated opposite the serving hatch. Numerous staff hanging around chatting loudly and generally ignoring customers. Tempura prawns were in ordinary tasteless batter with tomato ketchup (€14.50), belly of pork was soggy, monkfish was acceptable, altogether a very expensive and unremarkable meal, I will not be returning to this restaurant.

I was in Dobbins for the first time last night, and was very impressed. The staff were great, our waiter really knew the menu and was very helpful. The Dublin Bay prawns were absolutely delicious. Our meals were beautifully presented and when we had finished we were not hurried away from the table for a later sitting. There is a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. I will definitely be back.

We had the early bird here, which is not bad value for money, but I was glad we weren't paying full price. The food was ok but not spectacular by any means. My chicken salad starter was in fact pretty bland but my main of crispy duckling was tasty and my boyfriend’s lamb was yum. The desserts were good too. Worth going for the early bird but not good enough to justify the a la carte prices. Weird location too.

I was recently in Dobbins on a work night out and I was very impressed by my visit. The atmosphere was intimate and the service was excellent. There were two menus to choose from, a set menu or the a la carte. I chose from the set menu, which was excellent value and had nearly as much choice as the a la carte. The food was delicious and the sticky toffee pudding was amazing...I would highly recommend it this restaurant. Even if it is a bit hard to find.

Was really looking forward to my meal in Dobbins. The décor is modern & sophisticated and the staff were friendly and helpful. The Sunday lunch menu for €25 was great value. I had the chunky veggie soup, followed by the beef, my fellow diners had the asparagus salad and beef and the duck parcel followed by the cod. Soup was delish and the beef was ok. My friend’s beef looked a lot nicer than mine so I must have just been unlucky with the cut of my meat. I tried the mixed berry and pear tart for dessert, which was lovely, but a too sweet for me! The sticky toffee pudding looked great, as did the crème brulee. I would like to go back for an evening meal however I will more than likely wait awhile…

We came here for a Christmas lunch. We were jammed in a room upstairs, and I mean jammed. We could hardly move! They wouldn’t serve the food to our group until everyone was there (its a bit hard at that time of year if you work in a busy place) so we didn’t get served until around 4.00pm. But the food was delicious! Apparently the atmosphere is nothing like what it used to be before it got done up, but I would love to go and try it again.

The food reminds me of a carvery lunch. I got lamb and it was really tough - I had to ask for steak knife and this was slices from a leg of lamb rather than cutlets! Irish coffees were nice though.

Went there last night for Valentines Day after hearing some great things about this place. The food was great, both had the duck parcels to start and they were amazing, although the beef was a bit tough, and the service was brilliant. But I didn't like the seating out the back, it was very cold with all the glass and the tables were fairly tightly packed in for a meal that’s not exactly cheap.

My first time at Dobbins. The food was excellent and the waiting staff very attentive. Unfortunately my first impressions were disappointing. We were left standing inside the entrance outside the ladies toilets for 35 minutes before being shown to our table. There was no proper waiting area for guests with tables and chairs where you could sit while waiting and ideally be offered a complimentary drink in light of the long wait for the table. I'm afraid this left a bad taste in my mouth and I wont be rushing back despite the good food.

Went to Dobbins with my family on Saturday night. We had our reservations for 9 o'clock but when we arrived we were told that the table is not ready. Nobody took our coats and offered a drink at the bar. We were ignored for about 20 mins and had to acquire about the table twice. We were seated at 9.35 and no apologies from the staff. We got a table in the middle of two big groups. I don't know what the layout had been before they did up the place but if you come with a big group-there were 8 of us you you'll get this long table in the middle of the big room next to some other party overhearing the conversations. Our starters were divine, the main courses arrived at 10.45 but very delicious! The downfall was an extra bottle of wine on the bill, which we didn’t have, and again no apologies for the mistake from the staff. I won't go there again, neither I'll recommend it to my friends.

This restaurant is very hard to beat for lunch. A 3 course meal with lots of choice is €19.95. They do duck particularly well. I find it hard not to order the same things each time I am there (duck parcel to start, cod goujons for mains and tiramisu for dessert). The atmosphere is always good and they practically encourage you to linger. It is ideal for a long boozy lunch!

The food in Dobbins is excellent. We went for our wedding anniversary last Saturday night and had a really enjoyable evening. Although it was very busy with the silly season upon us the food was gorgeous and the service fast, friendly and efficient. We ate everything on our plates as it was too good to leave anything behind! Will definitely be back in the New Year……
