Very busy for a saturday night in January and could only get a table between 7 and 9. The menu was equally divided between fish dishes and hearty French rustic, I had the veal cheeks which were fantastic, At the end of the meal we were not rushed off the table and staff were extremely polite and efficient.

lovely food, the strip loin steak was fabulous for the early bird and the starters were really delicious....the price was great for the quality of the food.

Visited this restaurant on a Saturday night, excellent service throughout the evening. I had the Duck Foie Gras and it was excellent, the others with me had the scallops and mackarel respectively and both thought they were excellent. Main course I had Partridge and it was excellent. The desserts were ok but we were so full from the first two courses the desserts were never going to be a high priority. Excellent service and the starters were excellent. Overall very happy with my evening in Dax and will definitely return.

As a special treat for my birthday we chose Dax as while we knew it would be expensive, this was a special night. My first impressions of the restauant were disappointing. It's small, overcrowded (tables too close for these prices) and decor is nothing special, if not dull. The food was nice, pleasantly presented on the plate and service was adequate, for the prices I was expecting more attention. We needed to call our waiter a few times as our wine was not beside us. I don't have anything negative to say about Dax, but similarly I have nothing particularly good to say about it. I think they may be relying on an old reputation but would need to do more to woo in new customers.

Went here with a large group. Service was excellent. Overall the food was good, but perhaps not quite up to the standard that you would expect for the price, hence my low rating on value for money. I had a wild game terrine for starter which was outstanding, great flavours presented beautifully, I could have eaten 4 plates of this! The rib eye for main, while very flavoursome, had a good bit of grissle and fat, should have been prepared better. For dessert i had carrot cake which was very disappointing, quite dry and lifeless, in fact I have had nicer cakes from a plastic wrapper at my local newsagent under the green tree. All in all a good meal, however i think if I had been paying for it myself (covered as it was for our annual work team gathering) I would have been left feeling somewhat underwhelmed for the hole it would have left in my account.

This is a pricy ok resturant without the sort off flair one would expect. I had a reasonable experience but nothing to rave about.

My wife and I were looking for an early bird menu yesterday evening. We had heard of Dax and happened to be in the area so we decided to give it a go, even at €24.95 pp, which we thought was on the more expensive side for an early bird. But as we had heard good things and from reviews on Menupages we decided to give it a go. The menu although short of many options, four starters and four mains did have enough for both of us, although one of the choices is rib eye beef which incurs a €5 supplement. We both had the quail to start and while it was nice, we felt it was overdone and there was nothing much else on the plate. I then had the breast of Lamb and my wife the beef. When I received the lamb it looked promising, although a little on the small side, a nice round medallion of lamb but unfortunately it was about 60% fat. Some of it had been rendered down bt not sufficiently so it was left on the plate. It was accompanied by a matchbox size piece of gratin dauphanoise and again, not much else. In fact, we had to order sides so my stomach would not be left rumbling. My wifes steak was nice, quite thin but considering it did cost an extra €5 it would want to have been nice. On the plus side, the serving staff were excelent, well informed and attentive but not overly so and we did receive a small complimentary appetiser. In total our two course early bird meal with a glass of wine each cost in excess of €75. To say I felt a little bit hard done by is an understatement. I actually had to stop on the way home for a bag of chips which were the most satisfying think I had had all evening. Overall The food did taste well but portions were way too small and did not represent good value for money. The restaurant itself is very nice and has a nice mood and atmosphere but I would not go back, not at those prices and for so little food in return.

We decided to try this restaurant after buying the special offer available online. Neither of us had been here before so we were very pleasantly surprised at how nice this premises is. Situated near Leeson Street, it is within walking distance of central Dublin. We were advised to book a table and used our voucher which covered two hot and two cold tapas and a glass of house wine each for the grand total of €20, normally €40. Staff very pleasant and efficient. I would return but only if it were with a speical offer or maybe meeting for a coffee, give it a try.

Very much the higher end of the market but delicious and worth a try. I had the scallops and my partner had the veal and both were exquisite. Would definitely recommend. Service is excellent and it's worth every penny!

I had my wedding lunch here in September 2010. We were a party of 16 and it was just fabulous. Exactly what we wanted for our big day. They even made us a delicious chocolate cake to cut.We went back last night for the first time since our wedding..Brought back all the good memories from September. I have been out for dinner a lot in the last two months, I am about to give birth and making the most of my last few months of freedom. Nowhere in Dublin can top Dax . The service, food and setting are impeccable. The ribeye steak was the best thing I have ever eaten, chargrilled loveliness! Fine dining but not stuffy or pretentious. They now do early bird menus and great lunch specials. Making it possible to treat yourself more often.

Had dinner in a group of 6 last Saturday night. From start to finish the service was impeccable. All waiting staff were professional and friendly - and had a great sense of humour. We asked one of the waiters to take a photo of us - and when we looked at it - one of his colleagues had struck a pose in the background :-) I had Warm Loin of Tuna to start - beautifully presented and melt in the mouth tender. Next was Braised Veal Cheek - which has to be tasted to be appreciated. Two others at the table tasted it and it brought an instant smile to their faces. For dessert I had the Pave of Orange & Chocolate - absolutely delicious. Granted - none of this comes cheap - but for food and service of this high quality - it was worth it! Highly, highly recommended.

3 of us went for lunch as it is near our workplace. It was packed but we were seating promptly. I had roast beef baggette and soup. Bread was very good & reasonably priced. We also had a bubbly to celebrate a special occasion. Nice atmosphere & friendly staff.

Arrived on a cold/windy evening and we were met by friendly, informed staff who helped us to a table for pre-dinner drinks in a very pleasant manner. Menu offered over our drinks (nuts, olives offered without asking) and no pressure to take your table when available as we were early. Ambience in dining room very, very welcoming. Could not say enough about the quality of the food. All courses excellent. We had a mixture of starters, mains, fish and meat and I would have been happy with any of the dishes. My halibut was superb which I relayed to the chef. A little more expensive than some other restaurant but well worth it. Dining here reminds me of any good french restaurant in France. Very keen to return.

Treated my boyfriend to a meal here for his birthday, I have to say, it was exceptional, from the delicious food to the friendly and efficient service. It was pretty packed, which made for a buzzing atmosphere. The only qualm really was the price of the food...I got 3 scallops for starters, which were €17! Although tasted lovely, don't think it's worth that. They also add a 12.5% service charge onto the bill automatically, which I don't agree with at all. (even though ther service was indeed impeccable) But, apart the high price of the food, I really can't rave enough about it - my boyfriend had the suckling pig for starters and that was just "WOW" - it came with black pudding which literally melted in the mouth. For mains I had the wild mushroom risotto which was divine - so creamy! He had the beef which came with potato gratin - which he loved! He polished off the potato gratin in minutes, and when the waiter came down to check if everything was ok, my boyfriend commended the potato - and the waiter gave him some more :) We ordered the chese plate to share for dessert - again, MOST of the cheeses were delicious - there was one which was a bit too strong for our liking though!! All in all, loved dining here...but would only come back for a special occassion - not the cheapest in the world!

The hubby and I treated ourselves to Dax for our anniversary after having a superb evening here with family about a year ago. It was lovely with the same excellent service, presentation and food. It’s quite expensive though, it was our anniversary so we went all out with aperitifs, 4 courses etc but even so the bill was a LOT more than what we’d usually spend. I would recommend the place to anyone looking for a true fine dining experience but expect to pay for it.

Very good experience overall. We were received by the manager, from ... Dax (the mystery is over). Dax is actually a town in the south-west of France, which is one of the greatest region for food. Anyway, we were received perfectly, in a way which was relaxed and polite in the same time. The restaurant is in a basement, with low ceiling, and a deco recalling a nice cellar. I liked it but wouldn't have minded more space (still waaaay better than any parisian restaurant though). Concerning the food, it is not extravagantly original but efficient: the French classics revisited, and always with very good products (the beef from Carlow was impressive). Special mention for the desserts though, prepared by the pastry chef ... don't skip it! And for the wine, we had a white and a red one, and they were simply excellent (can't remember the names, sorry!), but you can bet the manager spends the necessary time to choose each addition to his cellar :-) On the bill side, I would consider the pricing a bit high for classic dishes, but I've seen far worse.

Having visited this restaurant quite a while ago when the experience turned out into a disaster I decided to give it another go. I phoned to make a booking an requested a table at 8.30pm to be told they only had 9pm. When I said to forget it, the table at 8.30pm became available. When we arrived the room was lively although not all the tables were occupied...which made me wonder... I ordered the Terrine of pressed giuinea fowl. Although tasty, it broke down when I tried to cut it.The tuile was also overcooked to a brown color. My friend ordered the Foie gras which was lovely and well presented. As mains, I ordered the Pigeon with cabagge and bacon. The combination of flavours did not work for me, although the pigeon was perfectly pink I could not find any bacon bits at all. Service was prompt and professional but my whole food experience did not live to the good reviews I had seen or my expectations.

I was in Dax on Saturday night with 4 other friends and we all had a wonderful dining experience. This was fine dining with impeccable service. Although the restaurant is in the basement it’s very airy and cool inside. I had the seared tuna to start which was served with delicious and perfect mild wasabi. Other starters ordered were oyster and prawn ravioli in seafood broth, others had goats cheese. All plates were left clean. For mains I went for the venison served with wild mushrooms and pumpkin gnocchi. This was very good indeed although some slices were slightly overcooked. My friends ordered pigeon (very good indeed, I tasted this one!) cod, halibut and beef. Herb spuds and green beans were also served. Again everyone was very happy with their meal and all plates were clean when collected. My desert was chocolate fondant and praline icecream, so divine, the fondant had the perfect crust on the outside with soft chocolate inside. Coffees and petit fours were then served. I’ve had better coffee. The wine list is pricey and we went for lower of this range with a delicious Italian Montepulciano d'Arbruzzo. Service charge is included in the bill which I never like as a practice but their service is so good anyhow. Very relaxed enjoyable evening. Would love to return :-)

A group of 5 of us visited Dax after a Leinster game in the RDS and were treated to one of the best meals I have ever had in Dublin! We decided to go with the tapas dishes and had a selection of veal, mushroom risotto, crispy cod on a base of mash potato, suckling pig and scallops which were all fantastic. Afterwards we chose some cheese plates that had the best selection of cheeses imaginable. The service impeccable and I will definitely return and recommend to anyone looking for an amazing meal.

I visited Dax with a couple of friends to celebrate Xmas. I was here earlier in the year also and it impressed both times! Amazing little place. The food is devine! I had the Guinea Fowl for starters and Cod for my main meal. Both were amazing! Can't speak highley enough of this restaurant. It is price though but worth the money if you can afford it. I'll be back!

Last Wednesday night myself and three friends went to Dax Restaurant to celebrate that after 5 years I was out of remission from cancer. I had previously dined in Dax Restaurant last year and had decided it would be a restaurant to return to for a special occasion. We were not disappointed the food while a bit pricey was superb and the steaks were cooked as requested the service excellent and the ambiance was very nice. The restaurant was full which we found surprising giving that it was a Wednesday night and we were delighted to find that the tables were set nicely apart from each other. The only fault I could find was the addition of a 12 and a half service charge to the bill given that we were a party of four (in most restaurants it generally applies to a party of six or more persons). We would gladly have given a tip as we had a lovely time but it would be nice to have the option.

We have wanted to go to Dax for a long time, but somehow never made it. Now we can't wait to go back. It was a memorable lunch. We were made to feel very welcome, the staff were very friendly and attentive. The two course lunch was very generous, so much so that we ordered a dessert between us. Prawns with guacamole and terrine of ham hock & confit chicken for starters were very tasty. We both had veal shin for the main course. It was served on mashed potato with tiny little onions & mushrooms with a nice sauce. It was delicious. The meat melted in your mouth. The accompaniment of roast potatoes seemed a bit strange at first, but there wasn't enough mash so came in very handy. The chocolate tart with hazelnut ice-cream was very yummy. We couldn't fault the food. My only complaint would be the 12.5% service fee. In this case I would gladly have given this amount considering the food and service, but I still feel it should be up to the customer to decide.

The food here is superb. Not so the service. The price is also too ambitious. I had a lovely foie gras starter, my wife ordered the lamb and I had the beef. Nothing to complain about. I suggest melba toast not slice pan with the foie gras though. All said – I recommend Dax for the food but the way my wife put it we will not be returning because good food without grace is like wearing a fur coat and no underwear. Shame, but they were so full that I doubt we will be missed.

i brought my boyfriend to Dax for his birthday on saturday and it was probably the best meal we've had out in Dublin. the steak was cooked to perfection- rare as i'd asked for it. and the selection of cheese at the end was sublime. The only big drawback is the price.. dax is definitely only for special occasions!

A very enjoyable dining experience. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the propriator greeted us like old friends. The atmosphere is relaxed yet sophisticated. The lunch menu was excellent. The mackeral started was really tasty with a a simple yet robust dressing. The rib eye (€6 supplement) was one of the best steaks I have eaten in a long, long time and accompanied by a rich orion marmalade and new potatoes. Unusual for a steak dish to be memorable! The white wine was choosen by the propriator and appropriately was from a vineyard in Dax (and did not brake the bank). Service was impeccable. Underrated resuarant. We are back for dinner this month.

Beautuful dining!!! Very small and romantic resturant.Tables have generous space around so we didn't feel intimate by other clients. I went with boyfirend and friend who is French and chef himself. All of us enjoyed food very much. Service was excellent. They were like ghost ,we could feel them, they served our wine through the dinner and they didn't disturb as at all.Very professional. Staff has very good intuition and their service was simply excellent.Pricey but worth it. We will come back there some evening for sure.

Beautiful restaurant and food. Great atmosphere and very attentive service, they do keep topping up wine, so you have no idea how much you are drinking. Couldn't fault anything with the food. Portions are not huge. The lime and honey souffle for dessert was amazing. Definetly worth a visit, price are between 10 -15 average for starters. 25- 35 for mains, so more of a special occassion/treat restaurant.

Overall one of the better dining experiences in Dublin. Only real quibble was the amount of tables crammed together. We were given a tasy amuse-bouche of terrine with chorizo, server with very fresh bread and pesto. For starters we had a roquefort ravioli and walnut sald, the pasta was perfect as was a light gdressing which allowed the powerful cheese to come through. For mains I plumped for the squab pidgeon rossinin with truffle mash-I delicious dish ( though very rich!) perfectly seasoned and the meat pink and tender. A had Cod, also extremely well done, the fish fresh and flaky. Couldn't manage desert after so we had to very nice espressos. Wine was an excellent Crozes Hermitage "equinox" Service in this restaurant is top class, professional and efficient, definitley to be recommended

Lovely place, nice decor, absolutely fantastic food, beef was so tender, there was no need for steak knife (in fact, they don't have any!). Not cheap, but worth the price. The only thing missing in this price level restaurant, was little more professional service (it was very good and friendly, but I would expect bit less casual guest/waiter relations). Great place for special occasions.

Yes Dax is lovely. I'm excited when I go. Perhaps too much as I am always a bit disappointed, but with nothing in particular. I can quibble with myself over small things; I don't like the texture of the terrine - but is that just me? My mains I always feel are missing something - what is it? Without "it" the food is good but doesn't shine out in my mind from any other (for example hake wrapped in parma) that I've had at a much more competitive price. Lovely wine's and petit fours. Lovely cheese board too. But I would have preferred a bit more of each cheese, even if that means less of a selection. Is it just the room? Are the lights too bright? I love Dax - but...

Went for a girly celebration lunch. The atmosphere is lovely, staff so friendly and professional, and the food just fantastic. We were there for nearly three hours and we never felt rushed. Really one to consider when you want something nice. Even better was the fact that we could actually get a table, it was the fourth place I tried a week before the date. What recession??

Went here for lunch for a special occasion and it was fantastic from start to finish. The food was beautiful. The service was just enough without being overbearing. It's not cheap but the quality means that it is worth the price. The only thing I didn't like was the amount of businessmen having working lunches (I was the only female in the entire place) but they can hardly be blamed for that.

Went here on a girls night out. We went for the early bird option. Had a lovely leisurly evening relaxing over the food and wine. Even though we were having the early bird, there was no rush on getting our table back. The service was excellent. The food was delicious. The dining room itself is lovely and intimate. It is a little expensive. For an early bird and the least expensive wine, it worked out at €90 a head. A little expensive for an early bird. Worth the visit though. Will definitley be back.

Came here for Xmas Eve Lunch with my family. The food was excellent and the atmosphere in the restaurant was also really good and made the lunch even more enjoyable. It is pricey but nice for a special occasion. I would definitely return to Dax.

The Christmas Dinner Menu was absolutely delicious. Came over to celebrate Christmas with my colleagues, the environment was cozy but it get little too stuffy after a while. It will help if there’s better ventilation. I start off with Seared King Scallops, follow with perfectly cook Halibut and end with Passion Fruit Crème Brulée. The food was heavenly divine! Will definitely come back for the excellent menu.

Came here for my birthday dinner. It looks like a lovely place inside. The waiters were very friendly and courteous. Menu looked lovely and sounded delicious, and it did not disappoint. I had prawns to start and steak with bearnaise after. However the portions were tiny, and the prices were quite the opposite. I'm glad I wasn't paying because the bill was astonishing. But in saying that it was a lovely night and the food was really good quality. So I guess if you can afford it you won't be disappointed, but don't go on a budget!

Lovey food and nicely laid out restaurant. Felt well treated and well fed, the only drawback was the noise. Although we were sitting side by side we still had to raise our voices to hear each other. Nice touch, noticed a table of 4 arriving at 10:30 and having tapas in the restaurant keeping the place busy.

Great food and great service, no question about it. Less lucky the night in terms of atmosphere, despite being in the reserved area the other tables were so loud that some of guests complained for the noise. Another let down are the prices on the wine list, at least 3 times the shop prices is going a bit too far.

Although it has been a few months since i've eaten in this restaurant I just wanted to leave a review as it stands out as being a really enjoyable experience. The bill came to 140 euro for two without desserts so It's a nice place to go for a special occasion. I'm not a fan of foam and my crab cannelloni did arrive fully foamed so that was disappointing but I blamed myself for nto asking. We both has steaks for mains and definitely recommend it. Service was good as expected and we would go back again before the year is out

2 of us ate here recently and absolutely loved it. We'd eaten here in June and greatly enjoyed it. In the intervening period we'd wondered if we'd misremembered just how good it was. We hadn't. For starters we had the red leg partridge and carpaccio of tuna. Very fresh, full of flavour and pleasing to the palate. Mains were scallops with artichoke puree and a bisque and guinea fowl. Both were suberb. Packed full of flavour, beautifully presented and a joy to eat. Deserts were a mango swiss roll and a green tea cheesecake. Again, they could not be faulted. I've found service to be attentive yet relaxed. You always feel the waiting staff know exactly what's going on and don't get flustered. The only disappointing thing was that the place wasn't busier. For food this good, I'd hope that more people will come.

I went here on a Monday night so the restaurant was a bit quiet but the food was delicious. There is a lot of choice on the menu so plenty of options for all. The service was excellent but given there were only 2-3 tables in the restaurant, it might not always be to such a high standard. There was a group of 10 of us and we had no complaints and had a great night

Went here last night with three girlfriends for wine and cheese. Lovely atmosphere and decor but low on clientèle. Relatively quiet, no music in background but eventually there was probably due to the quietness. Price was in the higher range, bottles of wine red and white were quite dear but very good selection. I thought most of the waiters were very cold and stone-like, except one guy, he was very friendly, he was the ONLY one that smiled as he was pouring us wine! Not sure if I'd come back on a weekday night, I'm assuming it's hopping on a Friday or Saturday night. Cheese platter not all that great, could of gotten more for your money. The cheese selection i could of gotten in the supermarket for half the price!

My first of what will be many visits to Dax happened as a client invited me there for a business lunch. You couldn't ask for much more atmosphere wise -nice and spacious with little alcoves everywhere. Food was outstanding. I had the soup of the day (tomato) and have never had tomato soup that good, corn-fed chicken for main and chocolate mousse for dessert both of which were also very good. Perfectly sized portions so you don't leave overly full. Service friendly and efficient. I will definitely return.

One of my favoured venues of choice for lunch. Ate there a couple of weeks ago on a Tuesday and was busy as ever. You have choice of set lunch 2 courses for €24 or 3 for €29.Changes regularly so always fresh choices although if you are a creature of habit this may frustrate you. They also do A La Carte mains for lunch which I think is overpriced at around €30. I have had everything from steak to duck to Risotto here for mains and caprese to soup for starters. Everything I've eaten has been very good. Portions not huge but enough for lunch. Love the bowls of roast potatoes they provide as side as well. Service is always good and nice mix of polite without being overfamiliar. All in all an excellent place but must add that caveat that I have only had lunch here as location is not ideal for evening meals in relation to where I live.

I've been to Dax a few times and whilst I like the restaurant and the atmosphere, I feel that it is overpriced for what it is. The food is good but relative to the prices, should be better in my opinion. On my most recent visit, I had ballotine of rabbit to start which was fridge cold slices of farmed rabbit meat with a farce. It was pretty tasteless and uninspiring. For mains, I had a beautifully cooked piece of fresh halibut served with spinach and a simple garnish. Very tasty, but at the prices Dax charge I expect a bit more. Dinner at Dax normally works out in the region of Eur90pp inc wine and I always feel that for a few Euro more you can have vastly superior cooking elsewhere.

I visited DAX few times, everything was and is just perfect. Food - quality, taste and presentation on high level. The food is not overpriced at all ... you know that you pay money for the fresh and tasty food when you eat out in DAX. The Restaurant nice quite and friendly staff with one off the best manager ever. He knows how to train staff and how to run the restaurant ... My rating is 5 * I will be back for more and will bring more people to show them that you can eat and enjoy food in Dublin.

A good place to eat, food quality was high, service was prompt and friendly, however we went on a Saturday evening at 6pm - and it was quiet. I had the lamb and was delighted to see that at least one restaurant has not followed the posse in serving lamb shanks as it is not a cut of meat I enjoy - regardless of how slowly it is cooked (am I alone on this?!)The restaurant is laid out nicely with plenty of room between tables. A bit pricey for what you get, and a little out of the way to the city centre but nice to have quality food.

All I can say is the food was fab, the service top class and I would go back again in a heartbeat! Had a lovely dinner here last Friday night. The scallops to start were mouth watering and the sea bass was brilliantly cooked. The only thing that let the meal down was the trio of creme brulees. They didn't have enough flavour and also weren’t quite crunchy enough on the top. Overall the food was fabulous, restaurant was quiet and relaxed and I will definitely be visiting again.

Great food and comfortable atmosphere! I love that the choice is smaller (but good variety) than some restaurants as it highlights seasonal products. I was surprised that many more people haven't heard of this place. The staff were fantastic and for them alone, I think there will be many repeat customers. Top quality food! Update: Myself and partner came here by ourselves the second time we came. First was with a family. The 1st time the place was a little noisy, but I put that down to a party that were there. This time it was not as busy as we went during the week, but the place is still noisy. It think it's just the way the restaurant is. On the whole, I was a little disappointed this time, especially as it was so nice the 1st time. All the food was just ok. Not anything I can complain about, really, but just a little drab. I can't put my finger on it, but I was disappointed this time around.

We were a party of 9 on a Friday night. The evening went well in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The menu is varied and we were all happy with what we ordered. The service was attentive but not overbearing and we were not rushed and stayed v late! The prices are good value for the quality of the restaurant. A really enjoyable evening.

Got a new fridge last week, however I was not sure how to set the temperature accordinly, despite the instuction bible. So when I walked in the door from work on Tuesday, everything in my brand new fridge was frozen including the lettuce!! So I decided to cross the street and pay a visit to one of my favourite Dublin basement restaurants Dax. The staff was friendly as usual,my cheese plate perfect, my bordeaux wine @ perfect temperature. Even had a dessert wine to clean the palate. It's nice to have a place like Dax in the neighbourhood.

Again, perfect. My boyfriend and me were there last year and on Valentine's day last week we happenned to be around the area and we decided to check if there was a free table. Luckily for us, there was. Beef Bourgignon was the best I have ever tried. Last year I had beef as well and they really know how to prepare it. Service was excellent as well. Always looking forward to come back.

I went here with 5 others for lunch and overall I was disappointed. The menu is different from what is advertised with a much smaller selection. We were charged for 6 bottles of water at our table when we had only used 3. The dessert selection is extremely poor and in general there was very few items on the menu suitable for coeliacs. Most of the staff weren't sure what a coeliac was.

This is my second time at Dax. The 1st time it was perfect. This time I book a table on 19th December for an evening meal for 5. First thing I shocked at the price €62.50 + 12.5% service charge. The Restaurant was packed and the noise was terrible you could not hear yourself talk. Service was slow and the food was not as good as last time. I would say that the food was worth no more than €30.00 per head. It was my own fault I should have checked the prices before to booking but did not realise that an increase over 100% will be added for December. I had a bill for €562.50 which €62.50 was service charge. Overall very disappointed.

Great restaurant. Can't believe I hadn't heard of it until recently. You hear people raving about places 1/2 this good. The standard is very high across the board. The giant Gambas prawns for startes are bigger than I've had anywhere in Ireland. The steak was perfect. They keep it simple and do it very well. A 6 of us went, a few faux pars on the service with dishes getting mixed up, and trying to get their attention at times required a good bit of waving, but all small in comparison to the great food and friendly service. Great wine list too. At €140 a head though it certainly wasn't cheap, but I'm sure it won't be long before we go back.

Fantastic! Had dinner here last night. I was initially horrified because the restaurant was packed with an office Christmas party, complete with flashing novelty earrings and Santa hats ,when all I was hoping for an intimate dinner with my husband! The food was sublime. I had foie gras to begin. Beyond comparison. Mr Trollydolly had crab cakes which were delicious. I had the scallops which were perfection, and he had steak which was even better than the steak we had in Dublin's best steak restaurant.I had iced parfait for dessert, which was interesting, and he had gorgeous lemon tart and raspberry sorbet. The service was impeccable. The place was heaving and yet the staff were completely on top of things and the food quality didn't suffer. I can't wait to go back again! We were hugely impressed. It's not cheap though. Three courses each, a bottle of crianza, two double espressos and two armangacs plus service charge was e212. It was worth it however.

Very pleasant lunch at DAX today. We only booked yesterday and had a bar table, very good of them to accommodate us. The starters were fine, although I was a little disappointed with the fois gras. My risotto was superb. The desserts were all gorgeous. The lemon tart was just melt in your mouth, although I thought he sharpness of the lemon would have been better complimented by a smoother, cream based icecream than a sharp sorbet. Still, the tart was perfect. Also a reasonable lunch menu, about €35 for 3 courses, not my standard lunchtime, but certainly one which I'd be delighted to go back to for a special occasion. The service was fantastic.

The food was satisfactory but I found the service to be slightly indifferent. I suppose the addition of a "discretionary" service charge to the bill led to such perfunctory service. €135 without wine is overpriced. I wouldn't return in a hurry.

Excellent, excellent restaurant. Went there to celebrate my partners birthday with some friends on Saturday night and it was a fantastic evening. Dinner on Sat night was spectacular - no surprise there as it always is. What was particular impressive was that when my brother who is coeliac asked what starters were gluten free he was pointed to mostly fish starters. When he said he didn't eat fish they created a duck starter for him. The same happened for dessert - they whipped up a Crème brûlée for him which wasn't on the menu. Now that's service!

Very very good! Went to Dax for a nice meal for wife's birthday. The atmosphere was very romantic. Wine was fantastic! Had Duck for mains, wife had the beef, both just melted in the mouth! Meat just fell off the bone! Lovely staff, will leave you alone but will check up every now and then. Well worth it. Oh! I don't even like duck, took this as a challange, Dax changed my mind towards duck! Loved it!

Love Dax! In my opinion the best restaurant in Dublin. Food fantastic, atmosphere warm and inviting and the staff efficient, friendly without being overbearingly so! Really enjoyed my meal, and the wine recommended to us was excellent without being overpriced. Restaurants in Dublin could learn a thing or two from the formula of Dax.

Great. The food is French\French Basque country and excellent. He has also put a lot of thought into the wine list. As well as full meals they do tapas. Try the Dax Special Starter\Tapa (stuffed Ducks Hearts)it is great.

I was treated to a meal in Dax last Friday courtesy of the other half. I'd never heard of the place but was very impressed. The staff were very pleasant and there was a nice ambiance. For our starters she had the prawns which really were melt in the mouth, and I had the salmon. For mains she went for the chicken, which was presented very well and was tasty, but chicken is chicken really. I had John Dory - cooked to perfection. We shared a Warm Chocolate Fondant with ice-cream to finish, again very tasty. Overall we were both very satisfied leaving.

Dax is a wonderful find, somewhat off the beaten track, 15 minutes or so from town. But once down the stairs in the warm low lit atmosphere, it's clearly a jewel in the crown of Dublin Dining. We've eaten here a few times. I go for the foie gras and duck or beef, Mrgourmet tends to go for the seafood. We have never been disappointed. There's a great relaxed French atmosphere at Dax and I look forward to going again.

Ate there again this week and was very satisfied with all aspects of the evening. I dined early and the place was about half full (a good sign!) The Fish Cake with the summer salsa was very tasty and the risotto good enough to be the right choice for me once again. No alcohol this time, so the bill was a very pleasant surprise.

I took my husband for dinner for his birthday last Friday night. It was our second visit to this restaurant. It was very quiet except for the table next to ours where one guy in particular thought we would all be interested in hearing his bawdy, overbearing and inane conversation. The more wine he consumed he became vulgar. He was getting many stares from other diners and I was annoyed that the staff did not have a quiet word. Anyway on to the review; I had the crab tian, which was extremely good; my husband had the rabbit terrine, which he felt was too rich. For main course my husband had the wild mushroom pasta, which he said was very flavoured. The rib eye steak was not available so they gave me a fillet steak instead and it was perfectly cooked. The service was discreet and friendly. However it took an hour for our main course to come out and we were not informed as to the reason for such a lengthy wait. It is pricey but the food is superb. Would go back again.

Went for lunch here the other day. I was impressed from start to finish. The food was very tasty from the bread they served at the beginning of the meal right down to the dessert! Only negative comment I would have was that the steak (rib-eye) was a little big fatty, I would have preferred to have the option of a fillet. The staff were so nice and attentive but not overbearing. Setting in the basement of an old Georgian house made it really cosy if a little bit hot at times! I would definitely go back here, the dinner menu seems to have an even bigger choice!

Certainly a gem in the culinary crown of Dublin, from the moment of entry to the second we left; we were made feel very welcome. It is a pricey restaurant but the service, wine list and delicious food makes it all worthwhile. Inside is well designed, creating the feel of a rustic French/Italian cottage garden; a charming achievement considering it's a basement of a Georgian House. Went with my girlfriend and her Mother (first time meeting) and we're still going out!! Need I say more?!?

I was invited here for a meal last week. I can honestly say that I enjoyed the most succulent piece of lamb (cooked medium) I can ever remember eating. It was so wonderfully cooked that I savoured every mouthful. The service was flawless and the helpful staff added to the atmosphere. The wine list was huge with equally hefty prices accompanying each bottle. Staff were helpful in recommending a suitable bottle to accompany your dish. I really enjoyed the experience but I was glad I wasn't paying. The bill was about 250 for the four in our group; one starter, four main courses, two bottles of wine and four desserts.

We went to Dax last September to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. We went for the tasting menu, with matching wines. From start to finish, the meal was superb, the food, the wine, the service, and the ambience. It was so good, that it obviously all went to the boyfriend's head, and he proposed! We'll definitely be making a return trip.

Had a meal for four last night (Thurs). I had called one or two other restaurants on Tues to make a booking and all offered the usual of being full or unsuitable time. On reflection we were blessed as I then rang Dax. We arrived 15 mins late and from the min we walked down those steps were made feel very welcome. For starters I had the foie gras. Excellent. Our mains were Brill, Duck, Lamb and I had the beef. Amazingly for such variety all were perfect. We decided to go for Portuguese (Douro) wine from the extensive and very well chosen winelist. So fantastic we had another bottle. The deserts (raspberry tarlet, crème brulee - washed down with some Prosocco). Obviously one feels the need to say that the meal was a tad pricey but to be fair and honest it was worth every bit of it. I will most certainly be back for both the food and professional yet friendly service (the type of which is rarely seen). 10/10

Ate here recently, got a fantastic welcome, wonderful service all night & some straight forward no nonsense food. Good ingredients cooked and presented well in a lovely environment what more could you want! Hope to return very soon. p.s. the staff found out it was a birthday at our table and a complimentary glass of champagne arrived, very nice touch.

Had dinner with friends recently and really enjoyed it. Really good food and excellent atmosphere. Loved the French bistro style. I had the crab tortellini, home made pasta and very tasty crabmeat. Can't wait to return.

I had a really good dinner here a couple of weeks ago. One of our party ended up being quite late but this wasn't made an issue of at all. The monkfish starter and pork main were divine. It was on the expensive side but for a special treat it is a top class restaurant

We just had a fabulous lunch here this afternoon. 20 of us from work brought one of our colleagues here for her leaving to have a baby do!! I spoke with Olivier a couple of times prior to today to arrange things and he was so helpful and friendly and the staff are impeccable. The atmosphere and set up in the restaurant is great. The food is really gorgeous, not one person was dissatisfied we all loved our meals. It is a little pricey but it was a great treat and worth it!

Overall, this has to be one of the finest restaurants in the city centre. I eat out a couple of times a week and I have to say the service was excellent; the food was delicious and overall 4/5. It is not the cheapest but I would rather eat out a little less, spend a few euros extra when I do eat out and have a really nice meal.. Rather than spend less and eat out more! I can't recommend this place enough and will be going back.. Based on other reviews I'll try it for lunch some day too.

I recently had a really enjoyable meal here. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was really nice. I was very impressed. My only complaint would be that we were left waiting for our desserts for about half an hour after our main course, but aside from that we had a lovely evening. I will definitely be going back.

I went here for a post Valentine’s dinner. It was fab! I had heard it was great food and a romantic place to go and it was. The food was very good and the service was excellent. Superb wine list and the chocolate pudding are to die for! Great place for a night out with your partner.

Just got back from lunch at Dax... I headed to Baggot Street on a crazy Friday lunch time not looking forward to the usual boring lunch food... everywhere was packed.... and by accident I ended up in DAX. Wow €19.50 for two courses, steak and crème brulee. I hadn’t even booked a table. My friend and I just walked in. Outstanding service great value for money, two courses and time for coffee and back to my desk by 2pm. I wish I had all afternoon I would have had a bottle of wine and stayed there. I love it top class!!!

Dax is my kind of restaurant. Great ingredients, properly cooked, reduced sauces, good wines, all overseen by the professional and friendly Olivier. I've never had a bad meal here, and the service is of a standard that's increasingly difficult to come by, even in the top restaurants. Strongly recommended.

Dax is one of Dublin's finest, very good bistro style food, and a mouth watering wine list, all overseen by Olivier ( ex Thornton’s maitre d' for many years) so service is top class. I have been eating here since it opened and have never come away disappointed...or hungry.

One of my favourite restaurants in Dublin, Dax serve amazing food and the maitre d' is the cutest ever. Anyhow, back to the food - best steak I've ever had, bar none. The service is excellent, the food is fantastic and the desserts are delicious. Favourite restaurant ever.

This place is a little gem. Love the Dax's special. However the foie gras was a little of a let down. But was rescued by a fab hot chocolate fondant.

High quality French cuisine and high prices. What more can I say? Your meal will certainly NOT be a disappointment but the bill will be. Great wine list too and service is pretty good for a French restaurant. If it were more reasonably priced I would go there every week. As it is, I'll wait to be invited!

Another trip to Dax and another triumph. Fish cakes (ˆ13) to start which were probably the only let down of the meal as they were more potato than fish cakes! The most delicious, moist fish (fillet of halibut ˆ35) that I have ever tasted. The starter of pan fried foie gras (ˆ15) and main of magret of duck (ˆ27) were declared delicious (and unshareable) by herself. Warm chocolate fondant (ˆ7.90) and a bottle of Chateau Segur (Bordeaux) put the tin hat on another great meal from Dax. It wasn’t cheap but then again, you get what you pay for………..
