Could not fault this restaurant! A group of us were heading to the Grand Canal Theatre and were looking for somewhere close to enjoy a long over due catchup prior to the show. One of the party was coeliac and I was assured over the phone that they could cater for this. Initially I booked for 4 but on the day 7 of us wanted to eat, as I neared the restaurant I could see it was very packed - there seemed to be a large wedding party - I was worried we would not get a table for our now larger party.....no problem said the very efficient manager as she pushed tables together and made a large table appear like magic! The food was just fabulous and every one of us ate from the very impressive early bird and the coeliac lady was told the choices she could have...a lot! We cleaned our plates! Lots of choice, good wine list and lovely attentive staff and the bill at the end a very reasonable sum....I would return no problem and would have no hesitation recommending. It is extremely handy for the theatre too!

Pieces of torn up paper in our Food - Bad Customer Service, no atmosphere, cold, cluttered with furniture scattered across the restuarant. Myself and my fiance dropped in for an early bird dinner on the spur of the moment but we will not be making this mistake again, we were sat in a dull corner of this very cold restaturant, our starters were actually very tasty and we were looking forward to our main however half way through we noticed that there were pieces of ripped paper in the food! When we asked the waitress to come over she looked at us suspiciously and said "Thats strange because we dont have paper like that here" as if to say we had put it there ourselves, no apology, no money off the meal - terrible service, will not be going back, there are plently of other chinese options out there so please dont waste your money on bad service.

We had the early bird menu - which had a good few options. the portions were a bit small and my partners noddle dish has very little meat in it. I had the duck which was very nice and a good size. the place is very small so not much atmosphere and the service was a little lacking considering they were so quiet when we were in.

Upon a recommendation I visited boat & I was so disappointed. We were seated quickly without a reservation, the restaurant was quite busy. We were served almost as quick as we were seated which should have alarmed me - but it wasn't until I was more than half way through the chicken that I noticed it wasn't cooked to my liking. My lunch buddy loved his selection & wished there was more of it! Unfortunately for me the chicken was enough to keep me away from this restaurant.

We had a great meal here and there were 11 of us for dinner. We did order form the early bird menu and we all found the food very good especially considering the great value. The staff looked after us all and were polite and professional.

I went with a friend from work to this restaurant as she had noticed it advertising its early bird. You judge a restaurant mainly by its food, service and value for money. The value for money really depends on the food and service. Well unfortunately neither are good in this restaurant. We entered the restaurant behind 3 other ppl who had no booking and were told they would have to wait. We then tried to get the waitresses attention after a few minutes and when we did it appeared that the booking we had made was not required as they were operating on a first come first serve basis from what we could gather. We were seated beside what must be the self service section for lunches during the day, very unattractive. The general décor was unimpressive. During our order, the waitress left our table and went off and returned with our glasses of water, she also told me I couldn’t have a selected red wine by the glass even though it gives a per glass price, she checked and then said she could do it by the glass. Our main courses arrived first and when we said we had ordered starters the girl said would we have it all together? We said no as we would be concerned about it going cold and she went off in a huff. I was given the wrong starter, ordered the cod and got the chicken. After this, we were given our mains which were the same mains we were delivered 20 mins earlier. My rice was starting to go hard. At this stage, I was very disappointed …. The main course wasn't nice and what we thought would be value for money was turning out to be a total waste of money. I said to my friend could we get out of there quickly, which we did and headed off for a drink elsewhere. Never will be back and do not think they would do so well if they were not in such a close proximity to the Theatre.

This place is great value, if you make us eof the early bird menu. Other than that I wouldn't come here, there are much nicer chinese restaurants in the city that charge the same price.... food isn't great.

I have eaten here before and didnt complain but I ate here just before I went to see a show in the Grand Canal Theatre, and unfortunately, we were worried that we wouldnt make trhe show on time as the service was quite slow. Another thing I didn not like, was that the waitresses ignored us every time we raised our hand either for the bill or a drink. Id go back if it has improved.

Food was delicious and you can tell the chef cares about what he presents. Our waitress was absolutely lovely and happy to accept our voucher from iwantamealdeal.com

Can I maybe be the first to point out that this restaurant is not on a boat! So don't waste your time like I did wandering around grand canal dock looking for a boat like I did! So having thought I booked the boat restaurant on the way to the O2, I was a wee bit disappointed before I even went in! But I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. Really tasty and reasonably priced. The staff are very courteous. And although the decor is a bit shabby (not helped by the old man asleep in the corner?!???) don't let this put you off. It's really top quality chinese food at a very good price! Just what we needed to set us up for Meatloaf playing in the O2 - amazing gig!

Went to this restaurant with my girlfriend and her little brother before attending a show at the nearby theatre. The food is good in theis place but the decor & atmasphere definately lets it down. A splash of colour & would really warm the place up & i reckon this would be a busy spot at there arent many asian restaurants in this area. Food was of good standard though

I have been here several times and i'm very happy with the services as well as the atmosphere. It's perfectly located at one of the modern residential/office area, next to the Grand Canal Theater. Hence, it is ideal for a pre-theater dinner, despite the fact that the foods are not considered very authentic.

My boyfriend and I ate here after walking past one day and liking the look of the menu. We were the only customers on a Friday evening. Our waitress was very polite but didn't really speak English and wasn't able to explain anything on the menu. She was joined by another waitress then who was much better. The food is okay - nothing special. Just your average Chinese food. Unfortunately as the evening went on, a lot of kids from the flats nearby started coming in and out getting takeaway and were then sitting directly outside the window drinking and making noise. The bill was pretty cheap though and they have a reasonable wine list.

I've had take away from here a few time and never had a problem with the food, but when we stopped by for some food to eat in it was different, place needs good cleaning, waitress didnt understand a word we said. Although food was cheap,if you dont feel like it came from a clean kithcen there's no such thing as value,so nil points on value cos didnt feel comfortable with it

2 course lunch menu for 10 quid sounded like a bargain but we didn't realise what we were getting into! As we walked in, they were cleaning the place and there was a huge smell of disinfectant! And they served us water without washing their hands- as there was disinfectant on my glass from when she poured water in it. That started on a bad note. The selection is decent and the food is allright but nothing to write home about. So all in all, not much to write home about and not a place I would be returning to anytime soon!

The bulk of the reviews have been on takeaway, thus the high overall rating as the food is good. This was our first visit , we went for the early bird menu - very good value. However, the restaurant is just not clean, the windows/chairs/toilet really needed a good cleaning - so I didnt feel 100% comfotable. The service was 'Faulty Tower' like - which we enjoyed. One waitress didnt have good English and was being directed by a 2nd, who was quite busy. Thus our starters went to a couple who had arrived after us - and hadnt ordered the same (as their original starters came out later) They were foreign so just ate. I spotted the commotion between the staff, ours came eventually! My partners Spring roll was the only dsappointing meal as it tasted/looked frozen bought, my chicken satay was fab. Both mains were great Chicken with chilli and basil and a chow mein - couldnt complain. But overall we wont be rushing back and I'm glad we only paid for the Early bird.

I tried this restaurant for lunch one day and was pleasantly surprised. The beef chow mein was delicious and perfectly cooked, the staff are frinedly and they do a good deal of a starter and main for about €9. I also recommend the prawn toast!

We got takeaway delivered from Crystal Boat last night and it was delicious. Meaty ribs, juicy prawns and really excellent duck. They also deliver wine, which is handy and the value was outstanding. We'll definitely order from them again and we planning to go and eat there some time soon.

I had a takeaway from this restaurant and while the food was mostly good (apart from tom yum soup with pineapple??!!!), the service was very poor. I was given the wrong order followed by zero apology when I phoned to tell them. I was told I would just have to wait for the correct order because they were too busy. The correct dish arrived twenty minutes after we had finished our half-meal so that was a pointless waste of everyone's time. In fairness, the replacement delivery came with an apology and some vouchers but my meal was already ruined by then; my night off from cooking was already ruined by then, I had dished out the price in full and I was seething, so unfortunately it was too late for apologies. My recommendation is to vote with your feet and avoid this type of substandard service.

I'd had take away from the crystal boat before and was encouraged to dine there by their anti-msg statemnet on their flier. We went on a Monday evening so it was quite but had a nice cosy warm atmosphere, the waitress was very attentive and we were given a larger complimentray bowl of non-greasy prawncrackers, score! I had the chicken and cashewnuts in a birds nest, while my dinning companion had lemon chicken, we both had egg fried rice. despite having gone for what you would consider safe options on a menu that boasts a good array of fish and seafood dishes we were both impressed by the presentation, taste and the overall pleasant feeling the meal left in our stomachs. Not a hint of my usual post chinese msg bloat. At 12.50 for the lemon chicken (really very tasty) and 14 for my chicken and cashew nuts, the meal was really good value. We will definetly be going back.

I went out for lunch with few of my friends to Crystal Boat on Friday afternoon. We had our table booked but there was really no need for it as the place was empty. We all had different dishes with king prawns and to our surprise there were loads of them in the sauce which is always a good sign. We all really enjoyed it and the food was really tasty. For lunch the size was perfect and it did fill all of us up. The place is nicely decorated and staff are really friendly. The only thing I can point out is that the service was a bit slow as there was only few people in and my friend had to wait a long time for her dessert (even tho it was worth it as she enjoyed it a lot). It is a nice Chinese restaurant and I will recommend it to all. They also do take away so I might try that in the future too.

This was my second visit since The Crystal Boat opened in Grand Canal Dock. Lovely food, decent prices and very attentive staff. They also do a take-out menu if you prefer. House wine is available at the decent price of €16 which makes dining out in these recessionary times still affordable!
