Last night was my second visit to Cafe Topolis in a few weeks. The early bird is excellent value at €14.95 for starter, main course, tea or coffee. This time I was in a hurry to get to a play in the Project so I just had a main course of chicken stuffed with spinach and mozzarella in gorgonzola sauce with sauteed veg (in place of the potato option - not a problem) and the OH had a pizza. Both delicious and service was excellent (as it was previously). Ideal for a quick pre-theatre bite - close to Project Arts and New Theatre and for groups having a leisurely meal. Not exactly romantic type setting but very pleasant and warm interior. House red by the glass is quite acceptable and tap water served in bottles with mint is a nice touch.

My wife and I visited this restaurant last night without a reservation.Despite the restaurant being very busy, the staff were very helpful in finding us a table and the service was excellent throughout the evening. The atmosphere was very good and the restuarant was neither too noisy nor too crowded. We felt we had sufficient privacy as this can be an issue at other locations when the tables are close together. As for the food we both considered it to be excellent value for money as it was well presented and tasty. For starters we had calamari and bruschetta. Both can be easily done badly but in this case the chef made them perfectly. The calamari was appropriately crisp and came with a delicious swwet chilli sauce. I had a wood fired Hawaiian type pizza which was excellent value and contained very fresh ingredients. Finally there is a great choice of desserts but I would recommend the sticky toffee pudding which was delicious and was neither too moist nor too dry. All in all I would highly recommend for great service, food and a lovely atmosphere.

I have been going to this restaurant for years. Its a great place to eat and very child friendly. Its also great value. The food is great, especially the pizzas - made and cooked in view. I have just one gripe - I normally order the americana pizza, but last Saturday it did not contain the pepperoni I am used to (spicey, coulourful), but some tastleless, colourless bits of pork. I was quite disappointed. I will definitely still go back, just won't order anything with "pepperoni".

Stumbled across this little place while looking for somewhere affordable to eat. The restaurant was busy but we spotted a cosy table for 2 through the window and luckily we got it. Lovely rustic feel to the restaurant and the food is reasonable and tasty. the staff were attentive and the big wood fired oven was a lovely touch. Would go back again.

I recently visited with my work colleagues and we were seated downstairs, my only quam would be that it was very crampt but that was my only gripe. Has Bruchetta which was full of flavour, the cherry tomatoes were delicious, had Lamb shank which was cooked to perfection, divine, with mashed potatoes, and crunchy vegetables. For dessert Eton Mess ( which I shamefully would have had again...) Would definitely return again. The staff were efficient and very friendly. A must repeat meal for sure.

This was my second time in the restaurant. The staff is OK, I suppose they could be a bit more friendly. As for the food, my partner had salmon with saute potatoes and was delighted. I, on the other hand, had chicken with gorgonzola sauce and mash, the combination of the cheese and meat was delightbul but the sauce was cold so that spoilt the whole meal. I then ordered chocolate ice cream for dessert and was quite satisfied with the taste. What I noticed when we were leaving is that the staff (including cooks) smoke in front of the restaurant. That should not be acceptable. I will see if I come back or not.

Went here for a birthday meal with family. The restaurant has an nice atmosphere and the smell of the stone baked pizza adds further to it. The food was good value for money and everyone enjoyed what they ordered. The staff, although pleasant could have been a little more enthusiastic and smile when speaking to us. Still we enjoyed our night and will return here at a later date.

This has been a firm favourite of mine for years and I brought my friend to let them see what the hype was. Sadly I cant say it was quite as delicious as it normally is and I cant quite put my finger on why. To start we shared calamari which was delicious and the batter lovely and light. For mains we both opted for pizza which just wasnt as good as it usually is. I think maybe there was not quite enough sauce on the base. I will still return though as I have had so many delicious meals here over the years

Found this little gem about a year ago when looking for another restaurant in the area that had closed. I have been back 4 times since. Its a very reasonably priced quality Italian that does a very good value lunch & early bird menu. The staff are friendly & courteous and the excellent food can be enjoyed in a nice atmosphere! I would have no hesitation highly recommend this restaurant as the food is simply top class!!! Keep up the excellent work Cafe Topolis!

Not been here for a while, so we decided to head along for a Monday night treat. I had the garlic bread to start, followed by a pizza, with ham, mushroom and peppers - its was excellent. A nice spot

Having had a previous positive dining experience here, I organised for a group of 30 people to back for the early bird menu offering 2 courses for €14.95 + 12.5% Unfortunately, 9 of our group did not turn up but staff were very gracious about this and even re-arranged tables to suit. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meal which is great value. Would definitely recommend.

Went here we a work group for the early bird menu. There were 5 of us in total. The restaurant itself a cosy warm atmosphere, but I think I had a bad seat by the window as there was a real draft blowing down on top of us. The early bird menu has lots of choice on it and you get a starter and main for 15 which is good. I can't say the food was particularity good but it was fine. The service was prompt but could do with a smile and pretending they want to be there even a little bit. Probably wouldn't rush back.

This is my favourite Italian in Dublin. Their mouth watering pizza's and pasta dishes are to die for. Unbelievable value as well. The atmosphere is so relaxed and cosy and the staff are always friendly. I have been a regular here for years and always enjoy my visits.

Found his place a couple of months ago and have been back several times since. Each time we have visited, the food has always been very good whether it is Pizza or Pasta we have ordered. Service is very efficient whether you are in a hurry or want to take your time they are happy to accommodate. Very reasonably priced with an excellent early bird offering too. Would highly recommend trying this restaurant if you like nice Italian Food.

Had lunch here with a friend and thought it was an okay experience. Had the soup to start which was lovely but had minute steak that was really tough and even though I asked for the pepper sauce seperate it came dumped ontop of my meal. However service was fast and the meal was cheap.

Very good Italian restaurant with very patient and friendly staff. Me and a group of friends went there for a Iranian holiday celebration. We booked the big room downstairs and every of us had great time. Food was tasty. Their pizza was very well cooked. Definitely will go back again for group party and personal dining.

Went here on a Saturday night and was seated quickly even though we had no reservation and the place was packed! Service was very efficient and friendly. felt a little rushed out at the end but no major complaint! Food was delicious, had the bruschetta to start and the Rustica pizza as a main, which was probably the best pizza I've had in Ireland. Will definitely go again!

Returned with a colleague after a two year absence and was delighted to catch the whiff of the wood burning stove as we entered. I opted for a pasta starter and an American Pizza, both of which were very good. My colleague went for the calamari and the veal. This remains a nice, casual restaurant though I'm not sure I'd like to eat in their basement room (if that is ever open). Sevice was ok, if perhaps a bit slow. Wish I'd read my last review of this place as I had forgotten that the 'Eton Mess' is an ice cream rather than the real thing! I'd be happy to return if in the vicinity and if nothing else came to mind!

I was here with a friend on Tuesday night, the restaurant was extremely busy with all tables full as we arrived. The lovely waitress asked did we want to take a table downstairs and she would move us up sd soon as possible. Downstairs was cold and quiet and we were delighted when she came back a few minutes later to move us up to a really good busy atmosphere. The starters were both lovely I had calamari and my friend had the stuffed tomato. The pizza for both our taste were to thick in terms of the base the flavor was lovely but just not too our taste. It was good value I would visit again especially for the great service but I would choose something other than pizza.

Went to Cafe Topolis with my friends on Wendesday evening. There is good choice from the early bird menu and the food and portion size is great making the whole meal great value. Ordered Bruschetta and Pizza Caprese and 3 scoops of ice cream for a dessert. The pizza was excellent, with a crisp, tin base with the unmistakable flavour that comes from a wood fired oven. The service was quick and the atmosphere very nice. I would be very happy to go back.

Went there for lunch today for the first time. In the middle of Temple Bar, this restaurant is situated at a perfect location within the City Centre. Their quick lunch offer (2 course meal) is only 8.95. We were also recommended very good bottle of wine for less then e20. Compared to the other itallian city centre restaurants Cafe Topolis offers 5* service, excellent food including their authentic wood stone pizza. We all were pleasantly surprised! Excellent value, perfect service, vibrant atmosphere, outstanding food - 100% experience - can recommend to anyone.

Without a reservation and full of xmas cheer we were welcomed indoors and then seated downstairs where we were the only diners. It suited us perfectly as we were there to catch up and gossip. There was an xmas tree and some music playing downstairs and soon more diners arrived until downstairs buzzed as much as upstairs. The early-bird menu was on offer at €16 each for two courses + coffee; the range of dishes was extensive and we chose a reasonably priced wine (all wines appeared reasonably priced which was great). The starters of bruschetta and mussels were good; the mains of pizza rucola and caprese were fresh, loaded with rocket (as requested) and they were both delicious. It was a great night all around, value for money, taste, atmosphere and service.

We visited Cafe Toplis and oped for the Early Bird Menu unbelievable value at €14.95 for 2 courses & Tea or Coffee. The restaurant was full and we were accommodated downstairs although empty when we arrived it soon filled up. Cafe Toplis doesn't fuss about there is a simple wine list, whites and reds which run from €11.00 to €21 with house wines. The bulk is made up of Australian, Italian, and Spanish. The Early Bird consists of five starters, and no less than 16 main courses ranging from pasta's to pizzas, minute steak and chicken. Service was excellent and attentive, although the we had to ask for our water jug to be filled a couple of times a small oversight. I had Alette Di Pollo Piccanti, char grilled chicken wings marinated in spicy tomato sauce served with a mixed salad and garlic dip, my guests chose the Caesar Salad, crisp cos lettuce in a mouth watering classic Caesar dressing, maybe a little less crunch with the crotons again its a matter of taste. While Toplis cater for every taste it would be a sin not to have a pizza they have a proper wood fired pizza oven, I had Pizza Rucola, Milano Salami, Fresh Rocket, parmesan Shavings, Mozzarella and Tomato Sauce, my guests had Pizza Caprese, fresh tomatoes, basil, olives, mozzarella and tomato sauce, and Pizza Quattrostagioni, Pepperoni, mushrooms, olive, roasted peppers, Mozzarella and tomato sauce. The pizzas were excellent, with a crisp, tin base with the unmistakable flavour that comes from a wood fired oven. A great night washed down with two bottles of house white. One of the things I liked best about Toplis was this very flexible in their attitude - both friendly and accommodating and great value for money!

We eat here a lot, but on Friday night I was disappointed with my seafood risotto, for the first time in 10 years!! We have been eating here for 10 years and my very favourite dish is the seafood risotto with marinara sauce. The recipe and the price haven't changed through the years. This visit however, the risotto was missing the smoked salmon, and I feel it had been overseasoned to compensate. The waitress was very nice and noticed that I hadn't eaten a lot and she gave me a coffee to compensate. I will definitely be back and hopefully the risotto will be back to itself the next time!

We returned to Café Topolis over the weekend to enjoy our quiet Saturday night with some cheap but decent food. As ever, we were very pleased with our evening. It’s a great place to stop for some delish pizza, which I think is the best in town as nothing can beat that wood-fired oven baked pizza with its thin and crispy crust – just delicious!! Everything was perfect, the staff were as usual very friendly and polite, atmosphere is great and food is very tasty. The only little remark, the starter I had – layered potato and mushroom with green pesto sauce – it is only ok, they have better choices on the menu. Overall, I have dined here few times already and yet again I had very enjoyable night so will definitely I will be back soon for some more pizza.

We had a family lunch for 5 here on Sunday and availed of their amazing 2 courses and a glass of house wine deal for €13.95 per head. For the price, the food was great. They have much fancier dishes on the A la Carte menu as well for those who fancy it. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. We all really enjoyed our meal and agreed that the service was truly top notch.

Went to Cafe Topolis on Friday night with the wife. We've been coming here off and on for many years, and always enjoy it. Prawns in filo pastry to start, which we shared - crisp and tasty. Lovely pizzas to follow - thin crisp base, with tasty toppings. Not a scrap left on either plate. Nice bottle of wine, reasonably priced. Service friendly and attentive, as always. A great value night out. We'll be back !

Went on girlies night here last Friday. Atmosphere nice and staff quite attentive. Had the garlic bread with cheese for starter which was wonderful, but one of the girls ordered bruschetta and we were surprised to see just one slice of bread with the tomato's on top while everyone else's starters were huge. We just couldn't understand why they'd skimp on what has got to be the most cheapest dish to create! We all shared parts of our starters with her to make up. Anyhow, aside from that, the rest of our food was lovely. Pizza, pasta and meatballs were all devoured from plates. Would happily go again.

I was looking for a place to eat with my girlfriend just before going to a gig. We were both very happy that we went to this restaurant. We ordered from the early bird menu. There is good choice from the early bird menu the food and portion size is great, making the whole meal great value. The service was a little relaxed and the atmosphere was good if a little quite but it was a Wednesday evening. I would be very happy to go back.

I ate here for a work do last year and was very pleasantly surprised. So I brought my other half for a romantic dinner. The staff were fine, not especially friendly but not rude either. Our starters were nice enough, clamari and prawns. We both ordered rack of lamb for our main course and both were appauling. Small, old, tough cutlets of lamb with a few (and I mean very few) over cooked, imp vegetables. We didn't stay for dessert and won't be back. Very disappointing.

Have been in here twice since Christmas, just stumbled upon it, however was well impressed with it, the location is a few doors down from the Front Lounge. Each time, I just went in & got a table quickly enough, if it gets a bit crowded, they have a seating area downstairs, however during the week, after work, it never seems so packed that they have to open it downstairs. They have a nice early bird menu that is weekdays till 6.30pm, I believe 13.95 for a 2 course meal and if you want a glass of wine with this, its only 4 euros. I had the bruschetta which was very nice, done on white bread roll & then went for the rustica pizza. They have a nice selection, so I reckon most people would be happy with this & its very resonable. Would definetely recommned it.

I wandered into Cafe Topolis for a quiet lunch at a reasonable price and thats what I got! The interior was comfortable and stylish in an old worldy sense and the staff were friendly and accomodating. I ordered the two course lunch for 10.95. The starter was calamari, about five pieces which was small but considering the price it wasnt bad. It was crisp and tasty and didnt fill me up too much. For the main I went with a Quattrostagioni pizza but i opted for prawns to replace the pepperoni. When it arrived it looked amazing, and it was, i was just a tad disappointed with the prawns as they had a strange wine tang off them. Now i have to say maybe some people like that but wine makes me kind of ill so i picked it up quite strong. The rest of the pizza was delicious though and well worth it. Great place for atmosphere and pizza, was only a bit disappointed with the prawns.

This compact restaurant serves out good Italian influenced food at affordable prices. We arrived without having a reservation but that was no problem. My hubby had the chicken wings and I had the calamari which was full of flavour and not at all chewy. There was no rush in us dining and we enjoyed a Caprese and a Gamberi pizza, both were beautiful. The service was good without being imposing and the whole night was really enjoyable from beginning to end. Highly recommend.

My partner and I decided to stop into Topolis as we passed by and saw the early bird price EUR14.00 for 2 courses. Having looked at the menu, we agreed this would satisfy our taste buds. It was early, about 17:00 or after, and we were the only 2 in the place. They were only getting set up for the evening, the place was a bit chilled and therefore this hindered the atmosphere. We shared brochette and the wings for starter. The brochette was very garlicky, with big lumps of garlic as opposed to it being finely chopped; it gave the impression that it was just thrown together. I went for pasta with beef in a tomato sauce, my partner had the chicken salad. I couldn't fault my mains, it was lovely, plenty of it and very tasty. My partner's salad was also plentiful and very tasty. As soon as we finished, we asked for the bill and left. We went to a bar close by and had a few hot whiskeys and later that evening we noticed from the outside that it was a lot busier and atmosphere looked cosy and warm. We decided that we were just too early to experience the true atmosphere of Topolis and so that is why we've changed our grading from 2 to 3 for atmosphere. Great value overall, would recommend this early bird menu for a cheap eat, well worth it.

Food is great! good value for lunch time, starter and main for less than €10! great in the evening too and downstairs is good for big groups! wood fired pizza's are delicious, adn the garlic bread was nice if a little strong! Will be back for dinner again soon!

This is an unassuming place. Thankfully for the fact that it has 2floors for sitting. We were really lucky to have a table given that it was 8pm on a friday evening! The food was served warm and really tasty. The starters are unfortunately very small. For fried calamari, I countred the6rings on 1plate, so the portion is SMALL. I thought the dipping sause was not the kind I was used to.. Howerever it was tasty so I wont complain. If you are not used to spicy stuffs, the chicken wings being spicy will not suit your palette, I thought it was nice and surprising since it never occurred to me that italians have spicy dishes. The selections for mains is huge! Wonderful to choose from, the pasta choices were ok.. So I went for the parma ham and veal - juicy, tender, vealy! Very good food! The pasta unfortunately didnt look or taste as nice as my dish =) The wine list has a good selection. I'm happy the house red was really sweet and easy to drink! Well done for the restuarant's sommelier! Fantastic staff, ever attentive, accomodating and so helpful. The only set back here were the customers. 2tables had their customers comment on non whites dining there. I thgt that was really uncalled for and ignorant. Apart from that, this place warrants returns!! Well done

I really think you can't get better value than this place. Early bird for 15 euro for 2 courses. And the choice of mains is excellent given how cheap it is. I really love the stone-baked pizzas. Last time we went it was so crowded and a tiny bit cramped but sure once you tuck into the wine the din fades away! More than decent food which is very tasty, at rock bottom prices, don't think you can go wrong with that.

I absolutely love this place. Great food, very good value and good service and there's a lovely cosy feel to the place. On our last visit I had the Caprese pizza and for a change had mussels for starter. Couldn't have been more delicious.

I ate here with my husband it was late Saturday and we hadn't book. Luckilly there were tables awailable. For starters we have the beef tomato with pesto and goats cheese and the garlic bread both were delicious. Our pizzas followed Americana and a Margarita with ham, they were thin crispy and just the right size. Rounded off with an Italian beer the bill came to around €37. Service was prompt and friendly with good no nonsense food.

had a lunch here and it was amazing value - starter, main and a glass of wine for just €12.50. If you're going to do it come on an empty stomach because food is big portioned and tasty. Genuine Italian, inlcuding wood fired pizza - a rarity in Ireland. Quite a low key atmosphere so one for a relaxed meal and good chat.

I have been there some time in June and i had the best Arriabata in my entire life. People might not like it as much as me coz it was extremely hot but that is why i absolutely loved this. Any kind of pasta is only 10 - 15 euro and the portions are massive. Dont go for the starter and the main course - you probably will not be able to eat everything! Very tasty, went perfectly with House Italian wine - less than 20 e per bottle.

I ate here with my boyfriend about a month ago and we had a wonderful experience. The service and the atmosphere were excellent. We shared the Calamri Fritti to start and although it was on the small side it was delicious. For our mains I had the Fetticcine Alla Topolis and he had the Pollo Alla Fiorentina both were wonderful. If you are looking for a great homemade Italian dinner this is the place to go!

Went with a few friends at the weekend. The mushroom and gorgonzola starter was lovely, pizza was very good. The dessert was a bit disappointing though- the blueberry sorbet was a bit artificial looking and tasting and generally more like something from the supermarket than a restaurant. What really let the place down for me personally is that although the menu had the vegetarian V symbols next to a lot of the dishes, about half of them had non-vegetarian items listed in their descriptions (worst offender was parmesan shavings on everything- it's made with rennet from calves stomachs!) Made me not trust their menu or the staff's knowledge so I wasn't able to enjoy anything properly. Probably won't go back.

I came here on Saturday night with my girlfriend and found this restaurant very pleasant from the start. We sat upstairs near the kitchen (but not too close). Staff was very nice, they let us have enough time to choose from menu. Menu was OK, plenty of choices and the prices are really reasonable. I chose myself from earlybird menu (Which I needed to ask for) and my girlfriend had regular 2 course meal. For starters we had Alette Di Pollo Piccanti (chicken wings) which were really tasty (especially garlic sauce was awesome!) and Pomodori Ripieni - which my girlfriend considered almost tasteless. For second meal we had minute steak and Fettuccine Al Pollo E Funghi which were both excellent dishes!! All in all, we paid 56 EUR for 2x two course meals, bottle of wine and 0,75 l bottle of water. Great experience and definitelly willing to come back.

I have been to this restaurant twice now and had different experiences. I was there on a Sat night with my partner and it was amazing. It was very romantic, really traditional Italian, small & cosy. The food was beautiful and in the setting everything was great. Then I went on a weekday night and had a totally different experience. The food was still really good but because the place was busy the atmosphere was awful and the service was not great. I am willing to go to this restaurant again in the hope that I can get my first memory of the place back again.

this is a great italian restaurant that i've returned to on a number of occasions. Its perfect for a cheap and cheerful and tasty meal! I have had the lasagna and pizza which were really authentic Italian dishes and really tasty. on my last visit i splashed out an got the fillet steak, medium rare, it was a bit too rare for my liking but the waitress was really nice and offered me a new one but i was happy to just have it put on the pan a little longer. it came with a huge selection of roast vegetables. my partner had the carbanara which i thought looked like it could do with some vegetables but he said it was really good and perfectly spicy. all over very good value for money and i have tried the house reds and a really nice shiraz.

We had an excellent dinner for 2 here on 10th July 2009. Starters of bruchetta and caprese salad were excellent. Main courses of chicken and pasta and steak were also excellent. Dessert was a big let down. I had Eton Smash which was described as creamy ice cream with chocolate bits topped with meringue bits and strawberry bits. This was totally misnamed. It looked to me like one of the desserts that come ready made and are usually shown by pictures (I always avoid them). The waitress said that they only make the creme brulee and the tiramisiu. There was no taste off my dessert and the strawberry bits were pinhead dots of red. I will go back but will avoid dessert. I think management should look into their dessert menu because it totally lets down an excellent meal.

We stopped into Cafe Topolis on a busy and sweltering Saturday in Dublin for a quick bite between bars and were very pleasantly surprised by the place. The great value early bird covers a very extensive menu. Its not just the usual pizza & pasta, it even has steak! On an early bird!! :) Being boring we opted for bruschetta and caesar salad, both tasty, for starters and pizzas for mains. My rocket and parmesan pizza was lovely but could've used a little more parm, the tiger prawn pizza was nice but the prawns had a slightly bitter taste. Throw in 2 really great coffees, a glass of wine and a beer and you have a great value meal for less than €20 each.

shared a quick pizza over a glass of wine here last night (Quattro Stagioni pizza) Atmosphere was good and staff very friendly and efficient. Pizza was way too salty though. good base and toppings but ruined with salt. Second time I've eaten here and same experience both times. Wouldnt particularly recommend it

I've eaten pizza few times in this place and it was pleasant enough but saturday night was a disaster. I ordered fried calamari as a starter. Not the best but passable. My main course was Risotto Capri. A disaster. It was a dark red risotto with lots of oil. It tasted fake. Frozen seafood was there but not a chance of tasting it. My partner had a calzone. The dough was not cooked properly, the mushrooms inside were orrible and they stuffed it with some pepperoni that tasted like hot dog sausages. We sent both main courses back. The manager was nice to us and we didn't have to pay for anything. I hope it was just a bad night.

YUM, I love this place. If you want a great Italian meal, good atmosphere and reasonable prices then Topolis is for you. I have been here countless times, and my last visit was just as good as ever. For lunch or dinner, for two people or with a group of friends, Cafe topolis is good for all. Booking ahead is advised, as is requesting a table upstairs. They have a room downstairs for overflow, and the atmosphere down here is not as good as above. Cafe Topolis are better at main courses than starters, in my opinion, with their stuffed chicken dishes a reason to go there in itself. The wine list isn't brilliant, but passes. I have ordered wine by the glass here before, and was not impressed as it had obviously been open the night before. Overall, Cafe Topolis ticks a lot of boxes. Great for a fun night out with friends, or a tasty lunch.

Went there hoping for a good pizza but..: I ordered salmon cornetto as starter which came with no prawns at all (as described) and the salad wasn't fresh either Then we ordered pizza (Parma) which i only ate half, cos it tasted like ketch-up and not real tomato sauce!Very disappointed! I wouldn't recomend it at all! won't come back there for sure!

Popped in here for the first time for a bit of dinner last Sunday evening, 2 starters, 2 dinners, 1 dessert, 1 coffee and a bottle of red wine, 70 euros. Food was plentiful and very tasty, the side order of garlic bread with cheese with our mains went down very nice, service was excellent. Loved the whole atmosphere too, what a difference a candle on the table makes!! Will be going back next time we're in town.

Pleasantly surprised by this place. I've walked by it many a time and never thought to try it. Nice warm atmosphere and friendly service. Menu was interesting - a few dishes I have not tried before. Food was very tasty and portions were generous (always welcome!). Two starters, two mains and two drinks for under €50 - can't really complain. Not the best Italian in the world, but better than most in it’s price range and well worth a visit.

I thiink at this day in age a warm friendly service is just as important as good food. This is a lovely choice for a bite to eat right in the city centre, perfect location. It has ood choice ion the menu but importantly the owners are really lovely & provide a really nice ambiance.

This restaurant is just ok, I am surprised at all the good comments. There are so many more superior Italian restaurants in Dublin that unless you were really stuck this place is not worth it. This was my second time to this restaurant the waiting staff are friendly and the upstairs room is quite nice. I had the chicken pollo Soppresso which was like eating rubber, it was not good at all. They specify on the menu that all their chicken is fresh Irish chicken but I have had better processed chicken kievs from a supermarket. I think if you are planning on visiting then stick to the pizza and stay away from the pinot grigio it not a good one!!

I visited this restaurant a few times over Christmas, loving my pasta dish so much the first time that I went back to have it again! It was the 'Linguini Con Pemodori Secchi' and I have to say its delicious. The first time there were 5 of us and everyone was happy with their food. The next time I went with my boyfriend but he wasn't overly impressed with the pizza and thought that it was just ok. Overall I find it good value with a nice atmosphere and good service.

Ate here for our Xmas party and wasn't expecting much. It lived up to expectations. Service and atmosphere are pleasant enough but the food is poor, even for a low key restaurant serving a table of only 8. My starter was grilled mussels with parmesan and looked like shells filled with black putting. The mussels wouldn't come out of the shells with the topping as they were over cooked. I ordered the Prosciutto pizza. The "prosciutto" was thick bacon-like texture, very salty. I expected a delicate thinly sliced cured meat. I think I was in the wrong restaurant.

This little restaurant in the Temple Bar area is the perfect place for a romantic dinner. The venue is nice and the atmosphere is lovely, and the service was also perfect. I had a lovely starter, a beef tomato stuffed with mozarella di buffala, and it was absolutely delicious. As a main course I ordered th spaguetti with meatballs and I have to say they were one of the best I have ever had. I will be definetely going back for more! The price was also quite reasonable.

Absolute Bargain, meal for three including two bottles of wine and a coffee for 85 euro. This could be the best value in the city centre. Great antipasta plate for sharing and boring though it sounds divine lasagne. On a cold wet Friday night this restaurant was cosy and warm with great views of the city life going on around. I am going back to try all the other great sounding dishes.

So good I cant wait to go back! Myself and a friend went for a bite to eat before the theatre last night and the food was fantastic. I had the Pollo Fiorentina and it was divine, when my friend tasted it she demanded we go back again soon! It was 6pm when we were there so not expecting a great atmosphere but the food more than made up for it. Cant wait for our next vist!

Just what you want, good wine at a reasonable price, nice food and service that appears when you want it but otherwise leaves you in peace.

This is one of the best value places in town for lunch. Come here regularly for the lunch special. Soup or Garlic bread, then pizza or pasta and then a coffee. Their minestrone soup is lovely and their pizzas are great. The only negative is that it's not the fastest with the service. But it is worth the wait!

**** update of 16th October 2008 ***** Was at cafe topolis last Sat night with my boyfriend, and at the next table, quite unassumingly was Cliff Richard and a few friends. As always the food was fabulous, the service was friendly and not rushed and the bill was very affordable. Yum ***** THE POTATO AND MUSHROOM STARTER IS CALLED SFORMATINO ALLA PUGLIESE - its a must !! One of my favourite Italian restaurants (except for the hard wooden seats). Great menu, large selection to choose from, good waiting staff, lovely choice of wines. One or two very unusual dishes that differ from the average Italian menu. I recommend the Sformatino Alla Pugliese starter - it’s a small tower of pecorino cheese, slices potatoes and mushrooms in a light oil with pesto round the edges - WOW. Or the beef tomato stuffed with goats cheese and spinach. Yum.

Having visited this restaurant regularly over the years with a group of old school friends I recently went for the first time with my partner. As it was early in the evening there weren't many people there (2 other couples ) so it did seem a bit dreary. The service was quite slow considering they weren't rushed off their feet but the food was as usual excellent, and one can't go wrong with the house wine. I feel that this is a restaurant that is definitely one better enjoyed with a group of people later in the night and the staff work better under pressure. Try at all times to get a table upstairs (even wheh you are with a group) as there is a much better buzz. The pizzas are the best in town.

I used to be very fond of this place but I found that lately the food has become slightly boring and there are many finer restaurants nearby. I'd rate Cafe Topolis as just OK.

Nice set-up upsairs in the resaturant, nice atmosphere until you encounter the ambivalent and extremely rude staff, we weren't even greeted at the door by the idle staff. Had lovely starters of stuffed tomato and brushetta, but the meal swiftly deteriorated with the main course. We both chose chicken dishes which were bland, tasteless and unimaginative. Our mains were served immediately after our starters barely leaving us to digest them, not very conducive to relaxation and us enjoying our evening meal. Weren't offered dessert or coffee which we both wanted but by the time we had gotten someones attention we were too annoyed to stay any longer. Perhaps if the staff weren't so blatently rude you could see past the food, or vice versa, but with poor mains and awful staff, I can't say it was an enjoyable evening or that I would ever recommend or return to this restaurant.

I like this restaurant, its very open and you can see them make your pizza. I had Sformatino Alla Pugliese to start with which is potatoes, mushrooms and cheese. It was delicious but a little cold. For mains I had Risotto di Capri which was great it was slightly spicy which really gave it an edge. I would definitely order this again, though they say this comes with seafood it was really just salmon & prawns which are really the best with its spicy sauce. Risotto is filling anyway but they do give you a good sized portion so be hungry! We ordered rum with are meal which i wouldnt normally do but it cost us each 3 euro not including a mixer! Stick to the wine. Also I have to say I didn't really warm to the waitresses, there was no hint of a smile throughout them serving our meal and I just felt like we should get out of there as soon as we could.

I quite like this restaurant, its quite laid back and the food is always good. The portions are a good size and the wine list offers a good choice and selection. The only one minor complaint is that the restaurant can smell a small bit like a burning pizza due to the fact that it is an open kitchen. More often than not I wouldnt notice it, but when I do, it can be quite overpowering the smell of burning pizza base.

Good value for money and good food. The staff could be more friendly however. I had the garlic bread for starters which was good and the meatballs for mains which was very nice although i would prefer more of a kick to my sauce. Nice atmosphere upstairs but dead below.

I go here regularly for lunch. Their Lunch special is excellent value. Their Minestrone soup starter is lunch by itself. I highly recommend the Calzone for main course. You really need an hour and a half for lunch as the pizzas take time. If you order pasta dishes you can be served quicker. I also love their Spaghetti Arabiatta which is a really nice vegetarian dish.

My friend and I went here on a night out and we had a brilliant meal. Altogether 2 starters, 2 mains, 2 coffees and a bottle of wine only came to 60eur which is great value. I had the stuffed tomato to start which I was a little bit disappointed with. I had had this here before and loved it but it was a bit tasteless this night. However my mains certainly made up for it, faultless. Can't wait to go back.

If the owner would think about changing the staff I would give it 4 stars for all. But as the staff is just simply arrogant. Waiters treat customers like they don't really care, tossing the plates on the table and mumbling under their noses...not a great impression. But I must say the food and wine is excellent. I recommend this place and hope you will be served in a better manner,

Ate here for lunch yesterday with my boyfriend (my first time but he had been a few times previously) Food was fantastic, house red was delicious- nice and light for a lunch time drink!! A set menu for only €9.50, value was great- only problem was that the waitress didn't tell us that it was only garlic bread or soup for starters and we never got offered our tea/coffee at the end. still food was fantastic- will defo be going back!!!!

Went last night with my two young gilrs, (8 & 6) and husband and we were abused by the rudest manager I've ever met. We had made our reservations for a table but when we arrived we were put down stairs to an empty room while upstairs was booming. It smelled of disinfectant, so when I went back up to enquire about a move I was treated to a torrade of abuse by the young manager. In the end I asked who was the customer and he told me he didn't care!! Charming!

Only ok but good price! Would return to try another dish. Would give the potato saute a miss-far too greay and makes for a very plain meal if choosen as side. Pasta and pizza dishes looked nicer. Basement lacks atmosphere. The waiting staff are pleasant.

Third Visit and Still as charmed I've had wonderful food here on 3 occasions with 3 different people with different tastes etc. On each occasion the food was fantastic, the service was good and the price very reasonable. Whether having a romantic dinner, a friendly early bird or a very happy party I've had a blast and can whole heartedly reccomend this place. Will definitely go back!

Very pleasant in taking my booking, after all it was 5pm on a busy Saturday night. The food was faultless, but "special". The Olimpo Bianco wine was recommended, but I found it thin, watery and a touch too dry; way over priced. Service and atmosphere was attentive and very friendly. Overall a pleasant evening, but nothing that would make me rush back.

I went here for dinner with a friend before heading to a show. We had booked the table, but when we arrived there was only 2 other tables occupied, and all staff including the chefs were just sitting around chatting. Thinking back now this should have rang some bells and told us to go!! We ordered the stuffed tomato - Sformatino Alla Pugliese and bruschetta to share for starters, the bruschetta looked very tasty and had lots of topping, but it was actually freezing and the bread was soggy! For mains then we got a pizza, which was fine, but the Pollo alla Arrabbiate was inedible, not to mention the sauteed potatoes that came with it, with the grease dripping off it! After clearing off the table, they brought us the dessert menu, and everything on it was frozen, nothing fresh or nothing exciting whatsoever, so we declined, so sat there, still hungry finishing our wine before leaving, and promising never to return! Was so disappointed by this place, the overall service was fine, but the food was such a let down. We definitely wont be recommending it to anyone unfortunately.

Have only been once and can't fault the service or location, but the food was extraordinarily bland. Had the Spaghettialla Aribiatta which promised much but delivered little. It was the culinary equivalent of eating shredded socks in dishwater. Yuk! Had to pour on the salt to taste anything. Will not be returning.

I went here for dinner with my boyfriend on friday night and on entering we were greated by a waiter who almost fell over himself to get us seated, he was so friendly, followed by a lovely waitress who went out of her way to give us the best service she could. I thought food was pretty average bruschetta was cold, buffalo mozzerlla gorgeous though. I got linguini with sundried tomatos and light chilli sauce which was a bit bland and didn't taste of chilli at all. and tried my boyfriends homemade meatballs which were lovely. All in all it was a good experience and I would go back as such great choice and good friendly service.

Go here almost weekly for lunch with a pretty big gang from work. The staff are always really friendly and helpful, the service is always excellent, not rushed and not too slow either. The food is always great, the pizzas are amazing! The lunch menu has got to make it one of the best value restaurants in Dublin. The only downside is it can be quite cold if you're sitting in line with the door. Totally recommended.

I had dinner here on Monday night and won't be in a hurry back. Dining room was freezing, service terrible and the food was mediocre. Thumbs up for the lasagne but the tuna nicoise salad, penne pasta & starters all pretty forgetful. Cutlery just short of been thrown down on the table. The only saving grace was the cheap bill at the end of the night.

I go here every Christmas eve for a meal with a big group of friends and it's always great. The food is of a high quality, although this year the Sformantini's bowl had cling film on the bottom, which kind of shattered the illusion. However, bar some of the tables being too near the door that lets in a killer draft, this is one to recommend.

We came here on Saturday night and it was gorgeous. The food was lovely, the portions for starters are very generous, we were waiting about 15 mins for our mains which in my opinion is just right to let the starters settle. The service is excellent, however as it was just the 2 of us we were seated at the wall and found ourselves boxed in, not intentional I think. Overall we were very impressed and was reasonably priced. I have eaten here before but this time they have surpassed themselves. Well worth a visit.

I was taken to Topolis by a friend, as we had a lot to discuss. The atmosphere was calm and quiet - no music and the clientele were discerning. Very easy to talk - as well as eat the delicious food. The service was prompt and very helpful when deciding on what dishes to order. It was clean and warm. the house red was exceptional for a house wine. Truly recomended!!

What an amazing little gem! The best calzone ever! This visit my calzone arrived to the table in the shape of a fish, so beautifully crafted i admired it for a few moments hesitating putting the knife through this work of art! However, that was quickly overcome when the amazing aroma and flavour attacked and utterly satisified my senses of sight, smell and taste! House Red was soft and velvety. What a way to get over the Monday Blues!

Headed to this restaurant on Friday night, after calling in the afternoon for a booking. I wanted 8pm but was only offered 7:30 or 9:30, and If we took the 7:30 we had to be off the table by 9:15(I really do hate this about Dublin that you have to have the times that suit the restaurant and not yourself) We opted for the 7:30 slot, but when we arrived they did not have my booking in their book. We were offered a table for two near to the kitchens. We sat down and placed our order, pizza and chicken diavola with a bottle of Chianti. The food was lovely and very filling, the pizzas are a good size for the price. As we both were full we opted to end the meal with coffee. Service was good, if not a little stern. My only complaint was the restaurant was too hot, and I not sure if this was because we were right next to the kitchens. I would go back and would recommend to friends, it offered good food and value.

We went here on Thursday and we were very disappointed. The starters were terrible, the potato and mushroom dish which I had loved on a previous visit was very greasy and the mussels were awful. The topping was burnt and they looked very unappetising. The pasta was no better. Both main courses were bland and oily.

Never in my life have I been to a worse restaurant. From start to finish the whole experience was just appalling. The service was abrupt and unfriendly. When we finally managed to order, the food was - to put it - simply disgusting. A lasagne that tasted like it had overcooked smelly socks in to and has a salt content that I’m sure would dehydrate anyone….is this a ploy to make us drink more wine!! All the food was over seasoned and greasy….however this was not the worse thing that happened. When we complained about the food, one of our guests was told that’s just the way it comes, another was told that other people liked it so it was their problem and while one dish was replaced, the replacement was delivered with such force and disdain that the guest was afraid to touch it. We complained again to the management who responded with a shrug, full plates of food where removed from our table, and then the management refused to take what we couldn’t eat off our bill. The staff are aggressive, obnoxious and plain rude, and while are starters were nice, the only thing I can say about our mains was pure and utter muck. If I could give minus stars, I would.

Great Italian that doesn't feel like every other one in Dublin. Gorgeous interior and really friendly staff. Can highly recommend the Saltemboca de Sole or however you spell it! Chicken stuffed with Parma ham, sundried tomatoes, cheese and lots of other good things! Will fill you right up so take it easy on the sides! Great pasta dishes too.

Good Italian, reasonable prices. Have been here several times as part of large and small groups. Everyone always seems satisfied afterwards. The seafood risotto is a personal favourite. Good value, with a really tasty tomato sauce. The lunch menu is also excellent value. Have only had one bad experience when they lost an order - it was a Saturday on a match night and the place was quite busy.

Was here for the first time with a larger group. Everyone agreed that the food was very tasty, service was also very friendly. Came back a week later for lunch on a weekend and was really dissapointed as my pasta was nothing special and my boyfriend's pizza toppings were buried in way too much cheese. Will have to come back and give it another try to make up my mind.

Warm and friendly, great location and great food. The house red in particular added quite a nice backing to my excellent lamb dish. Disappointed the brick downstairs isn’t as it looks, but all in all left very pleased and would definitely go back.

I finally visited this restaurant after hearing great things from friends and found it to be a little gem. Felt a little nervous at first when the waiting staff didn’t write down the order but the food was wonderful and spot on! I found the setting informal casual dining and the prices reasonable given its location near Temple Bar value for money and quality food was not expected so it was a wonderful surprise to eat get substantial portions and fresh authentic tasting food. Great place for couples and families with wonderful staff and the kids will be entertained watching the chef make pizzas...I know I was! They also have a great lunch menu on weekend but bring your appetites!

Good quality, very simple Italian food and exceptionally friendly staff. I wouldn't rate the desserts particularly highly but the starters and mains are great for what you're paying. Try the pizzas as they stone-bake them in a clay oven. Nice atmosphere - small and cosy, nice place for a relaxing evening.

This is pretty much your standard Italian in Dublin. Its main selling point is that it is cheap. I went with a large party of people recently all of whom agreed it was good but not great. I had a ricotta tortellini while my friend had a creamy tomato linguini. I came out quite well; her dish was to be avoided. I tasted a friend’s lasagne, which was excellent. They have good reasonably priced wines, and the staff are very accommodating, but the food is in no way extraordinary, and is certainly the kind of thing you could easily do yourself at home.

We have been here on a number of occasions. Never disappointed, Never!!! The staff never cease to amaze me, sometimes not writing down the order for a party of 6 and getting exactly what you order. Good quality tasty food, unbelievably cheap, great restaurant to relax and enjoy!

I love the food in your establishment and I have returned with friends on lots of occasions. My only suggestions is that maybe the waiting staff write down the order, as they seem to be working from memory. There was a little mix up with the food ordered when I was there last Sun evening with a party of 3. Otherwise, an excellent restaurant with delicious food. We recommend to all of our friends

I ate here yesterday and was very impressed we had 1 starter 2 mains and 2 desserts for only €45.00! We had chicken wings to start and they were really nice slightly spicy but not over powering. I had a tuna pizza only managed to eat half so the put the other half in a box to take home :) My other half had steak pieces with pepper sauce and sauté potatoes his only complaint was that it could have had a little more steak and maybe a side salad or veg. Dessert mine was Tiramisu a little disappointing but nice, and OH had ice cream which was lovely. I will definitely return.

Ate out here Sat evening, it is a really nice restaurant, very intimate and a lovely place for a nice evening out... I had the prawns in garlic and chilli very tasty and spicy but could do with some peppers or some form of veg with it.

One of my favourite most unpretentious restaurants in Dublin. You can see them cooking their pizzas in the stone oven at the back of the restaurant. Great pasta dishes and such friendly staff. On the busy Parliament Street try get a seat at the window! Only bad thing about this place is the table downstairs with the toilet view! Busy most nights prepare to have to wait a short while.. But well worth it!

On Easter Sunday, we were looking for a nice restaurant, simple and filling food as we had nothing to eat since an early breakfast...we were there just after 6.00pm...the starter (tomato filled with cheese) was lovely and tasty and the pizza (spinach, egg, mozzarella, onions, capers) was lovely too...my girlfriend's pizza was OK only...the red wine for 21 euros was very nice and the service was very good...the atmosphere in general was quiet and relaxed...but there were a couple of things which added a bad note to this nice experience...no chocolate cake and baileys cheesecake for dessert so had none... for onions which I thought was expensive even if the overall price was cheap and good value...and straight after the meal we both had bad stomach cramps...so I have mixed feelings..

Went here with a friend for dinner and a chat on Thursday afternoon and we loved it! We both had garlic bread with cheese to start, a big portion and it was delicious (maybe could have used more garlic). I can’t remember the name of what I had but it was 2 crepes filles with spinach and ricotta and baked in the oven with a creamy tomato sauce, absolutely fabulous! My friend had a pizza with pepperoni, cooked in a wood oven and it was so tasty, and the base was really light. Early bird around €14 for 3 courses, €37.40 for both of us including 2 diet cokes each. Great value and tasty food, we will be back!!

All-round top quality. I’ve been there three times and I like it better and better every time! Their weekend special menu (12.50 starter + main + tea / coffee) is very filling and satisfying. The atmosphere is very relaxed and cosy and the service is ever so friendly and cheerful.

Love love love this restaurant!! I came to Ireland 4 and a half years ago and I have been there hmm... probably over 30 times! I absolutely love this restaurant. The staff are so nice and remember us each time we come back, they know what I want now. Same dish every time. Saltimbocca del sole! EXCELLENT! I will keep coming here until the day I leave Ireland!

I dropped in nearly accidentally here the other day, and found it so pleasant that I have been back twice this year already. The food is very nice, nothing too adventurous but well prepared and tasty (I had, on different occasions, the ricotta and spinach-filled pancakes, the steak with pepper sauce, stuffed mussels, the lamb and pizza). The wine is decent and the coffee good. What really makes the difference though is the service - attentive, pleasant, efficient and friendly. Well done..

Nice restaurant! Not fancy but nice decor. The food is always really tasty - if anything there is too much of a choice! Decisions decisions! Not too expensive, but not a fan of the 2 hour table limit.

Great rest. Went in for quick meal before show in Olympia. Had chicken wings & garlic bread to start. Bread lovely and tasty wings bit tasteless but edible sauce could be improved for dipping! Main course was fantastic pizza & carbonara. Both were very good size portions and very very tasty!! Had 1 desert, which was only down fall as not a great selection, and 2 coffees with Bottle of wine (off the list not the house) and the total bill was a very reasonable 65 euro. Would def go again for convenience to Olympia, fast service & good food at a great price!! It was also very busy no empty tables all the time we were there..

Awww. I love Topolis. Friendly staff, great pizzas, and a good selection of pasta dishes, and all of it very cheap too. The wines are palatable (even the cheapy ones). My only complaint is the terrible music. Mostly Celine Dion, Michael Bolton and their ilk, but at least they have the decency to keep it at 'background' level.

Good restaurant overall and nice for a cheap and cheerful meal, not overly romantic or fancy but food is good and service is swift and friendly. I would recommend the Pizza's, cooked in a wood oven and very tasty.
