A colleague had told me about the 'specials' on offer and so I went early on Sunday evening to see if Bentley's was as good as it had been in February. The home made bread was delicious and we both had the goats cheese rosti to start. I had the gammon for main course followed by Eaton Mess. Both meals were very rich and filling. The service was friendly and attentive and the atmosphere pleasant (not too noisy but not quiet). The only downside is that I'll have to go to the gym every day this week! The set meal at €25 per head was very good value indeed.

I ate here recently as a group of 4, with the Irish Times Reader Offer. The menu was very limited, but great value. We had 3 courses each, tea/coffee, petit fours and a glass of wine for €35 each. I had a goats cheese tart to start, hake for mains and the chocolate pot for desert. The mains and starters were delicious, while the desert was ok. The only downfall was the gruff, rude waiter who served us all night. He was attentive, but very rude. Overall a nice evening was had by all. I wouldn't return in a hurry though, as there are plenty of places in the city which serves just as good food, in a friendlier warmer atmosphere.

Very nicely decorated dining room which makes you feel at home. Had the fish pie which was excellent with a mustard sauce and huge chunks of fish in it. Service was good with chatty waiters. Would come back here.

Booked for a family occasion expecting something special. Arrived and was seated. The setting and atmosphere was fine. Menu selection was confusing and limited. For example we were dining at 8pm but were still handed a Sunday lunch menu along with a limited a la carte selection. It took a while to sort out the confusion as our waiter seemed unsure of himself also. Starters were satisfactory with the majority plummeting for thr prawns due to the shortage of selection. Likewise the rib eye steak was ordered by most for their main course. While the steak was satisfactory, the presentation was abyssmal. Nothing else appeared alongside it on the plate. Eventually some decent fries and standard veg arrived seperately. Once again the waiter had to be prompted to bring along the pureed spinach that was advertised in the menu. He shouldn't have bothered. Just two of our group selected dessert which were reported as ok. Total cost including a bottle of champagne, two bottles of wine, some water and service charge 100 euro per person. Lots of better eateries for this money.

3 of us went here for Sunday lunch, 2 courses for E20 or 3 for E25. Menu had about 5 choices for each course. I opted for gravadlax for starter with hake on a bed of spinach and chickpeas for main. The others tried gnocchi and risotto for start and fish pie and roast pork for main. All the food was very tasty, my hake was perfectly cooked. Tried the pork, very tender. I would recommend this place as the food was excellent and good value for money. The only gripe was paying E5 for a bottle of water and they also include a service charge. Will definitely return.

A group of us were in Bentleys last week for the pre-theatre menu and overall it was a lovely experience, with particular commendation for the food. I was very impressed with the number of options available as a pre-theatre...it can often be disappointing to only have 2 or 3 basic options per course but Bentley's step with the game with 7 or so options per course. I had the whitebait for starter which is simple but very tasty. My main course of the fish pie had nice big chunks of fish in it, however it was beyond pipping hot - by the time it had cooled everyone else was nearly finished their mains! Dessert of a Rum Baba was really good - the sauce was beautifully flavoured for the sponge. Indeed all the desserts tasted like more. Service was very good if a touch too attentive and a little eager on trying to sell the extra bottle of wine, and the promised second basket of bread, although probably not necessary, never showed. My major and only real criticism would be the added service charge. For a group of only 5 people, to add a chunk of service charge at the end over-steps the mark, and should perhaps be revised upwards to larger groups. Tipping, to my mind, is for good customer service - not something to be guaranteed! I will definitely go back and perhaps sit at the bar next time. And I will definitely recommend Bentleys.

We went to Bentley's for their €25 pre-theatre menu. We had a table booked for 5.15, and were going to a show in the Abbey for 7.15, with plent of time to spare, or so we thought!! We found the service quite curt at the beginning but we ordered from the beautiful menu. I ordered the whitebait to start, which was simple but perfect. However, this was where the trouble started. Having finished our starters, I was informed that the trout I had ordered for main was no longer available. I ordered hake as replacement. Thirty minutes later we received our starters-again. Having sent these starters back, we proceeded to wait another 20minutes. The chef sent out a glass of prosecco in apologies but the wait time was just too long. Eventually we received our mains, which were cooked perfectly. However we didnt have the time to apprecaite it as we had to rush for our show. We didnt have time for desert or coffee. Upon requesting the bill we were suprised to see a service charge of €10. On point of principle we refused to pay this, but on asking to speak to the manager we waited yet another 10mins. He was pleasant and said he would look after us when we return. However, despite the wonderful food I do not think I shall be returning to Bentley's as the service is just awful and ruins what could be a brilliant experience.

We went here as a last treat to finish off our honeymoon...they had no record of the booking at all...I see this was mentioned in other reviews, perhaps a different booking system could remove this problem. My starter; seafood cocktail, was beautiful and main course of half lobster was just as good. Unfortunately my other half was not too pushed about his steak and the spinach puree which accompanied it, tasted off seafood which was offputting. The waitress seemed bored and the waiter was helpful. The building is well decorated and welcoming. €180 lighter...would I return...probably not...

Went here for a special occasion and it wasn't special. On entering we were curtly asked "Name of booking?" no hello-welcome-hope ypou have a good evening. We were told "You are early"- we knew we were early! We said- we would have a drink in the upstairs bar. The building is lovely and the drink upstairs overlooking the Green was excellent. We were led to an excellent table and the warmth of the service increased somewhat. The food was mediocre. Tempura of oysters was lovely and a generous dish of mussels was acceptable. For main I had hake whch was well cooked and presented but uninspiring- my partners steak was average! For a meal which cost almost 200 euro we were very disappointed with both the food and service- we shall not return

Arrived at about 12.15 so restaurant pretty quiet at the time. Filled up quickly though and was very busy after 1. Lovely setting and menu read well wih good value at €19.50 for 2 courses. Options chosen were gnocchi with goats cheese with tomato sauce and shellfish tagliatelle for starters. Both tasty and reasonable portions. Fish & Chips and fish pie were mains of choice. Both nice but not amazing. Fish pie had perhaps saffron or some other colouring which was somewhat odd and I found a little gloopy with little fish. I am more a fan of the traditional fluffy mash with abundant prawns etc. Fish and Chips again were nice but not amazing. Two coffees to round off lunch. Service charge added as standard and at 12.5% was very generous considering service was ok but not amazing. Disappointing but would try it again however only once

I dined here on Thursday night with a party of 5. We had the pre theatre menu. The starters were good I had prawn others had sea bream. All was good. The mains were just very average. I had the belly of pork which was half fat and half pork. Others had the fish pie but it only contained a hint of fish. One had the steak which was served with a fried egg???. We received between all five what I could only describe as an ashtray full of vegetables it was just about sufficient for one. When we asked for more vegetables we received an even smaller ashtray so we just gave up! The deserts were only average bread and butter pudding apple crumble. Overall it was a reasonable meal for a reasonable price nothing special. The staff were not very attentive. Had extreeme difficulty getting attention even though there were plenty of staff milling about. I wonder if Richard Corrigan only has a token presence. I really did expect a much better dining experience.

Well, I won't be back. Booked for 8.30 p.m. Arrived 15 mins early so agreed to go upstairs for a drink. One hour later we had to ask to be seated. When my Husband complained we were told in a very curt manner that we had asked to have a drink! Was then told that if we were in a hurry then we'd be served quickly! Unreal!! As for food, my tempura oyster starter was wonderful, but John Dory for main was a tad overcooked and dry. My husband's fillet steak was very mediocre. We didn't order dessert but I would expect a restaurant that charges this much would at least bring out petit four, amuse bouche etc. - nothing. Very annoyed and let down. I wonder if Mr. Corrigan was there on the night would my experience have been different?

Early Bird Menu - Great value @ €19.00 for 2 courses. Artichoke & Apple starter lacking in that special touch. Fish Pie & Hake sumptous and served with melt in the mouth mash!! Dessert was dissappointing with Apple Crumble over baked resulting in a caramilized sugar lump. Service sporadic - Long waiting time for dessert & coffee. Bright evnironment with building athmosphere as more diners arrived. Intimacy would be difficult in Bentlyes but excellent food and broad memu should compensate for this.

Ate here for a lunch mid week-3 courses for €24.50 excellent value. Fish Pie was amazing, and chocolate pot for dessert is a must. Staff were extremely nice and did not make us feel rushed as can be the case in a lot of lunch time sittings. beautiful dining room. Would definitely recommend.

The location of this restaurant is excellent. The restaurant setting was lovely but I didn't feel that the staff were particularly welcoming. The high point of the lunch was the blue cheese gnocchi starter which was nicely presented and tasted great. The low points of the meal were both the main course and desert. The risotto I ordered for my main course had an unpleasantly crunchy texture and the rhubard and custard desert, which to my surprise was served cold, proved very difficult to eat. The waiter seemed to forget about us after the desert and it took a long time to attract his attention in order to pay the bill. Very disappointing experience.

We went here for a special occasion. had a few drinks in the upstairs bar before dinner. Lovely building. The service was dreadful and the same waiter came over twice to take our order having forgotten he had taken our order. Our drinks finally arrived 20 minutes later despite it being a quiet night. Our table was over 40 minutes late and we received no apology or explanation. My starter was the scallops and oxtail which was excellent. For the main I went for the steak which was very disappointing to say the least. For dessert I had the chocolate mousse which tasted like angels delight. Our overall bill for 2 came to over €250 which was ridiculous. No athmosphere in the palce and extremely pretentious. I would not go back for the price alone for such poor quality for money.

I booked Bentley's for an earlybird dinner. I was a bit shocked to find the early bird finishes at 6.15, which is unusually early. The food was excellent. I started with mackerel and followed it with a fish pie. The pie was excellent and huge. I finished with apple crumble, which was an unusual take on a traditional dish. The wine was exceptionally good and overall the meal was very good value and enjoyable.

Booked the Bentley for lunch prior to the Ireland -Wales rugby match.Have eaten here before and really enjoyed it. Not this time. When we arrived we were told it was brunch as opposed to lunch. The set brunch was E35. What a rip off. We had a choice of full Irish, scrambled eggs and smoked salmon or eggs benedict We got a mimosa as an aparitif. The fry was obviously cooked way in advance as it looked and tasted so. Had I known it was going to be brunch I would not have booked this restaurant. It will be a long time before I return here.

Booked a table for the Early Bird for last Thurs. Negatives first - Service is a little patchy - I had to ring back after getting cut off by the person taking the booking. Waiter forgot to tell us what was unavailable from the menu - one of the starters which we ordered was off. Plates were handed to us a few times (although we were sitting at a large table it seemed wrong to be handed the plates). Positives - Lamb, fish pie and Hake in mussels & saffron broth were all fabulous. Hand cut chips lovely as were the mash & greens that accompanied the mains. Organic rioja was delightful too. Early Bird menu was excellent value at 19.95 for 2 courses. Liked mains the best but slightly disappointed with the overall service.

Great atmosphere, food freshly cooked, service impeccable. You can feel the hand of a master chef behind it. Only criticism would relate to the price. But for a special night out - this one is hard to beat.

Ate here for the 1st time and really enjoyed it. Loved the way the restaurant is laid out and atmosphere was lovely. Food was delicious. Had the salmon for staters which was lovely but the highlight was main course which was the John Dory, cooked to prefection and tasted delicious. Was to full to try a dessert so will have to make a return visit to try them out.

i visited this restaurant last night and was really looking forward to going to this restaurant, as it claims to have a good ethos about food - in that where they sources it is utmost to them - this is also hugely important to me. i was amazed at how poor the food was. i beleive in this recessionary environment they are trying to cut corners. i was there on a work night out with 12 other collegues. we eat out a lot and there is no way any of us will go back to this restaurant. i had the lime chilli prawns with aoili to start. the prawns were frozen, rubbery and reminded me of eating lumps of fat. they were covered in batter, to which there was no reference on the menu and there was no chilli on them. everyone of our group spoke of their dis-satisfation with the prawns in particular - they were heavy and stogy and difficult to digest. i had the rib eye as a main course which was ok, a bit overcooked for medium but other than that was satisfactory. the accompaning peppercorn sauce was runny, a watery consistancy and have very little flavour. the hand-cut chips were lovely but not what i go to a restaurant of this calibre for ! in short there is no way i would return to this restaurant and will be urging my mates not to either! shame on you - you have most certainly lost one former fan !!

I was with my friends Johnny and his wife to celebrate my birthady. We also saw the person on the phone and one other who checked our reservation but not our coats. The bar upstairs was a joke setting up for music with very bad service. we went to our table and i asked about the special which was priced at 22 euro on the menue only to be told it was n't available. Why have it on the menue ? The food was very good although the srevice was not, we were asked who was having the rare steak as 3 of us had ordered that dish. The serving staff also served accross us we were at a table not on a tennis court. We waited for a suprise birthday cake which never arrived. The cost of 400 euro was too expensive for what we got. My husband complained and asked to speak to the manager we still have nt been contacted. The person who took our complaint never wrote anything down. We were letf with a sour taste after our experience.

My colleagues and I had a brilliant night here last night, due to the food and to the celebrity event that was taking place. We weren't part of it but happened to be in the restaurant - more of this later. One of the girls in the office (P) was celebrating her milestone birthday and another girl (J) booked us in for the 6pm sitting in order to avail of the early bird prices (€20 for 2 courses and €25 for 3 courses). Most of us were on time and started with a carafe of house white while waiting for the stragglers. Everything on the menu looked inviting but eventually I plumped for the rabbit terrine for my starter and slip sole with vanilla for the main course. Other dishes buzzing around were (starters) prawn cocktail, salmon and cucumber ravioli, etc; (mains) hake, fish pie, etc. I liked mine - the vanilla with the sole was delicious. For pudding I had rum baba, something I haven't seen since the '70s when my mother went through a phase of making them. This one was attractively presented but I couldn't taste rum. I thought the starter and main course portions were small but reminded myself of the low prices. P and J have reminded me that the portions of fish pie and hake were very generous, and I have to admit the cheese platters were good value, with very favourable remarks made about the blue cheese in particular. Two other colleagues thought the hake was overcooked. At one stage, J came back from the loo saying, "I've just seen Samuel L Jackson!" We stayed put for the rest of the night and saw Samuel, Dionne Warwick, Keith Duffy and Richard Corrigan - the event was part of fundraiser for Irish Autism Action. The service was pleasant and I think the bill for seven of us, including wine (a carafe and maybe four bottles?), came to around €360. A great night and great value.

Went with my wife and 2 friends. It was the other ladys birthday. When my wife and I arrived there was a man on the phone at reception. We stood there for a few minutes and he ignored us. Then another man came and was giving coats to people on the way out. He only engaged us when my wife approached him about the reservation. Then we had to ask to have our coats taken. Not a good start. Upstairs in the bar we had pre dinner drinks. My wife was driving so asked for a sparkling water. The other drinks arrived but no water. We asked again . Nothing. Eventually we had to go to the bar and get it ourselves. Ridiculous. There were some people fiddling in the bar with a sound system. One minute blaring music and the next turning it down. Very annoying. Went to dinner. Asked first waiter what was the dish of the day on the menu. He said he didnt know but would check. He came back and told us there was no dish of the day. He also told us the Veal was off too. It was 8.30pm. We ordered and our food came. The food was very good and tasty. Lovely rib eye steaks for me and my wife , preceded by chilli prawns for me and scallops for her. Service when delivering food was unprofesional because the waiters were leaning across us to get to the table. The time for dessert came. We waited for a while to allow dinner to settle. We didnt know at this stage but my friend had ordered a cake for his wife's birthday. It never came. Why ? We decided not to have dessert and left the restaurant , but not before my friend had words with one of the staff at the front door , regarding the service and the non appearance of the birthday cake. My friend was furious. Overall the restaurant had a very ramshackle feel to the service . Right from the (non) greeting , to the bad bar service, to the food delivery ,to the missing cake. The food was good but was let down by the poor service. We spent €400 including wine and no desert. I expect better at these prices.

Myself and the wife booked Bentleys for friday night (no problem getting a table!!) and were greeted by pleasant staff. We were early and went up the the bar for a drink which was devoid of customers, dark and cold and was only missing some rolling tumbleweed. We drank up and were brought into the very atmospheric restaurant which we were both very impressed with. Staff are attired in traditional white uniforms which are a bit over the top and I was delighted to be serves by a friendly waiter from.....yes... Dublin!! If you like fish then Bentleys is the "plaice" to go. To start, I had a seafood cocktail which included ample amounts (nearly too much) of lobster, prawns, brown shrimps and was accompanied by a simple marie rose sauce. My wife had chilli praws with an intense aioli. One or two more prawns could have been added for better value but the dish again was lovely, simple and very tasty..For mains I had Cod in a mussel and saffron broth which was exceptionally tasty. My wife had the classic fish and chips which was probably the best we had ever eaten and the accompaning mushy peas and tartar sauce was perfect. We skipped desert and had petit fours and tea and I had an espresso.I feel charging €3.50 for a single espresso is outrageous and I cannot wait to find an establishment in Dublin where the cost less than €2 and where it is served with an espresso spoon (not a large teaspoon). Also, it gets me every time I order an espresso and the sugar bowel contains large hard rocks which do not dissolve in the coffee. Where great attention to detail is given to the food and restaurant in Bentleys, this is an issue that obviously irks me. That rant about espresso over, I can conclude by saying that Bentleys is a reasonably priced high end restaurant and the exceptional skill of Mr. Corrigan is portrayed in the understated quality of his food which in my humble opinion is among the best in Dublin. I really hope Bentleys survives 2010.

I visited Bentleys for dinner after they first opened in October 2008 and was utterly disappointed with everything. I recently went there for lunch and I think they have finally found their niche. Top marks for value and service.. I still would be reluctant to spend the menu price for dinner as my grapevine still tells me its poorly attempted style and talent.. But recommended for lunch..

Party of four ate here and availed of the pre-theatre menu, which is excellent value for money. €24.50 for 3 courses, €19 for 2. There's a good selection to choose from. Risotto, walnut salad, prawn and crab cocktail were each delicious. Main courses of pheasant x 2, minute steak and fish pie were all very delicious. Lovely home made chips with steak. Fish pie superb. Bread & butter pudding had run out but Christmas pudding & chocolate tart were excellent. Lemon mousse not liked but down to personal taste of the diner. Service very attentive & friendly. Bill with 2 G+T's, 3 glasses of wine, 1 espresso & 12.5% discretionary service charge was €135. Very, very good value for a really great dining experience. Will be back for the a la carte.

Lovely restaurant, with nice atmosphere. Staff very attentive and normal! No airs and graces which you get in some of these establishments. Food excellent. Early bird menu the way to go. Risotto delicious. braised steak, which my husband had, was melt in the mouth!!

I had heard that this was a very good restaurant providing a modern twist on classic Irish recipies and was looking forward to a treat. 3 persons. We had a drink in the bar beforehand (2 glasses wine and 1 margarita) - service was OK but seating /seating arrangements not welcoming or comfortable. Restaurant itself was welcoming and quite full. A little bread basket contained tired slices of plain brown bread and plain white rolls - pretty disappointing for a 'quality' and expensive restaurant. Menu was quite limited. We all chose scallops to start. Cooked to perfection (3 scallops) - they came with cepes (mushrooms) on a parsnip mash - a combination that was a little overpowering. Good bottle of Sancerre to accompany. Main course I chose rib-eye steak as it was the only one available. It was very disappointing - overcooked on the outside, poor texture and flavourless. Others had venison which was perfectly cooked and far nicer, the other had monkfish en croute - wouldn't have been my choice but he quite enjoyed it. We chose a selection of vegetables - all expensive additions to our basic main course but well cooked. OK red rioja to accompany. Passed on desserts and all selected from the cheese menu. I'll mention the service here - our waiter seemed attentive enough but he knocked over my wine glass (fortunately empty) and later knocked over a chair. He left the three cheese dishes to the side of the table leaving us to decide which was which. I called him over to ask where was the stem ginger that I had been looking forward to and was brusquely informed me that the were out of it. Didn't think to mention it or offer an alternative.had 3 ports with the cheese and finished with 3 coffees. Just under €400. Outrageous price for pretentious restaurant with very mediocre food and service. I wouldn't go back even if the meal was on the house.

Eat here last friday with my parents and overall I was left disappointed, the food was nice, the the overall package was not good for the price you pay, Our bill came to €240 and this was with carafes of wine, the bottles of wine were far too expensive. The waiters and waitresses are cold and unhospitable, and have awful butcher like uniforms. To start two of us had the seafood cocktail, which was nice, a good amount of seafood but a pretty average marie rose sauce, others had the goats cheese tart which was gorgeous. Bread served on the side was disappointing, stone cold and hard. For main, I had the fish pie which was nice, nothing out of this world, others had the salmon fishcakes and venison which were both very tasty. Deserts of lemon tart was lovely and refreshing, creme carmel which was nice and mulled wine triffle, which was described as custard and jelly were had. Overall we were left safisfied in the food department, but disappointed with service and value.

Unless this restaurant adjusts their prices and attitude to service, customers will vote with their feet and they'll have to close. Four of us went there for dinner with high expectations, but got only regrets. The wine list is very inaccessible in terms of price, which means your bill rallies upwards without any effort. Starters were ok with the spiced beef tartar the highlight; however they shouldn’t call a dish a seafood cocktail if it ends up being merely a prawn cocktail at a ridiculous price. Main courses were fine and the beef pies were a hit, but the sides, at 4 euro a pop, are hardly enough for one person. What a rip-off. At this stage we skipped dessert and opted for coffees and chocolate, but these did not arrive together, which misses the point. Raising these concerns with staff had no effect and our only option was to settle the bill and leave. Even here we got duped, as the bill included 12.5% service charge, which we only realised afterwards! The only gem in this establishment is the Aviator Bar upstairs where you can gather before heading to your table – and the service is immaculate. But that’s where it stops. This restaurant should go.

Four of us had dinner here Saturday night. Interesting to find that most of the reviews here reflect our experience - Beautiful room, Attentive and professional staff, but very poor value. There was nothing in particular wrong with the food, it's just that it was only a slight step above pub grub but priced at just below michelin star level! The wine list was a throwback to the worst days of the celtic tiger - at least €10 more per bottle than it should be. Charging almost €5 for side orders is ridiculous on this day and age. I never want to hear the proprietor preaching about value in Irish restaurants on TV again. Many FAR better restaurants in town offer much better value. An opportunity missed - we won't be back.

Ate here Sat evening. What brought us here was a gift voucher otherwise I'd not choose to eat in such an expensive restaurant unless it was Michelin-starred; even before we got there we thought the prices looked outrageous for a non-Michelin starred restaurant. And we were very disappointed with what was only just a "nice meal out". We were astonished there were no complementary chef's tasters which I've often received in far cheaper restaurants. The bread basket consisted of two small white bread rolls, and two slices of brown bread that looked exactly like what I can get in the work canteen at breakfast - definitely not freshly baked on the premises. Starters were pretty nice but nothing extraordinary, I had the seafood cocktail which did have a generous selection of nice fresh seafood, with a marie-rose sauce that I could make myself. My partner had the goat's cheese tart which was perfectly pleasant, but nothing out of the ordinary. My partner's main course of halibut was really nice - very fresh and beautifully cooked. My main of monkfish wellington was so disappointing. In fairness it was a bad choice because it's not a dish I'd normally recommend, but it came with mushrooms which were too strong for the fish, and bacon pieces which were very salty and overpowering. My dessert of buttermilk pannacotta with rhubarb was pretty delicious, but it was the only thing that impressed me overall. There was absolutely no wow factor attached to any dish, whereas at those prices I'd expect to be bowled over. Total was €180 which was exorbitant for the quality of the food. Definitely not somewhere I'll be recommending.

I have been looking forward to going to this restaurant since it opened last year. Myself and partner went here as a treat for Sunday lunch and ended up spending €227 including service charge which was added to our bill. The menu is very overpriced for the quality of the food. I loved the style of the restaurant and the waiters look very professional, just like what you'd see in London but was very disappointed with the service. Also as I am lactose intolerant most of the dishes were ready prepared which meant I had very little choice of what I wanted to order. I rarely experience this problem in other restaurants. Most chefs are willing to tweak a dish so that it doesn't include dairy. The manager helped make up for it by making a special fruit salad and sorbet dessert. All in all I won;t be rushing back here...

We were looking forward to this evening after hearing so much about Bentley's, helas...Food went from poor to average, certainly not fair portions and the service was quite forgetable, maybe we didn't look posh enough? Overrated and overpriced...Customer lost!

Had dinner at Bentleys last saturday evening, the place itself I found to be very relaxed and your made to feel at home.. Atmosphere was great especially when the lights were dimmed and the evening darkened. Service was top class but there uniforms a little old fashioned and oversized for the service staff.. Foodwise I had the scallops with black pudding which I enjoyed but I could see how some wouldnt. My partner had the goats cheese which she found pleasant but not out of this world. She had the Salmon in broth for main course which was extremely plain and I had the pork. As far as I know the pork was cooked in two different ways, some was a little dry but the rest was fantastic and cooked to perfection. Including a bottle of wine it all came to €150.. It was overopriced to be honest but there is something nice about this place and what a great location.

Had dinner here last Saturday night and was a fabulous experience from start to finish. The food was amazing and I was pleasantly surprised at the size of the portions so much so that much and all as we wanted we were not fit for dessert. Staff very professional and pleasant found they warmed up more as the evening went on..I thought it was good value, you really do get what you pay for. I have previously spent the same amount in other resataurants and not been half as impressed. Will definitely visit again (wish I could afford to go regularly!!)

I was so dissappointed by my one and only visit to Bentleys, not with the staff, service or decor, all of which were professional, impeccable and impressive but with the pre-theatre menu, which was limited to 2 starters, main courses and desserts. I am a great fan of early-bird / pre-theatre menus I find they make the more expensive restaurants accessible and give you a taste of what to expect if you get an opportunity to return and dine a la carte. Our starters of haddock tart were tasty but a choice of trout or shepherds pie for main course was such a let down. I had the trout which was enjoyable but my partners shepherds pie left a lot to be desired. I suppose we should have been suspicious when a soup spoon arrived with his knife and fork. It was like a large bowl of meaty soup with potato on top. It was just alright. The desserts of poached apricot or ice-cream didn't appeal much to either of us. I left feeling somewhat deflated having so looked forward to dining there. There pre-theatre certainly didn't whet my appetite to return.

We went for the early bird as we were heading to the concert hall at 19.30.The tablel was not ready at 17.30 despite there being several tables empty. This forces you to have a drink. The menu is limited 2 starters ,2 mains, 2 desserts. We had a 250 ml wine and coffee. The starter of haddock tart was lovely . My main couse of Sheppards Pie was poor. My partners fish was tasty but small. Overall not an experience I would wish to repeat. Overpriced and small portions, the service was friendly and attentive. The €25 early bird for two with wine, coffee and waiting time drink came to €124 incl service

Lovely restaurant, well done Mr. Corrigan. Really nice dining experience, the food was delicious. Had the oysters of course, really enjoyed them. Service was very good but lacked personality. Staff were very efficient but it seemed a bit cold and repetitive. The dining room is lovely, very classical and the oyster bar at the top is a lovely touch. Can't wait to try it again.

Was treated to lunch here last week and boy did I enjoy it. The oysters were just unbelievable, i have never tasted such good oysters and the lemon sole was cooked to perfection. Had to skip dessert because was full but had excellent coffee served from beautiful coffee pots. I am sure it was expensive (I didnt pay the bill) but I certainly couldnt fault it. Would definitely recommend.

Horrible food and seriously overpriced. I had the steak for main course which was paper thin, burned and very dry. My wifes meal was also very poor. The waiter took off our coffees, one desert and my starter of the price and it still came to €183. (still charged for service) if we would have paid for all items the meal would have cost us the same as a high end steak restaurant and this is miles away from their standards. We will never go back

Not a place for young couples wanting to enjoy a good meal together. Unfortunately although the service charge of 12.5% applies to all customers, the staff in this restaurant base the service they give on age and their estimation of how big a customer's wallet is. Where every table around us was told the daily specials and given a run through the menu, this did not happen for us which immediately set a bad tone. The oysters to start were fresh and delicious. The fishpie for my main was tasty comfort food but presentation was a little disappointing. When sitting in such a lovely room in a great location and paying that little bit extra you expect to get something that looks a little different from pub grub. My partner had the grilled lamb selection - I thought it would have been normal practice for the waiter to let him know what each of the cuts on his plate were(it was not described on the menu either) but as the first feeling confirmed, the staff here had no time for us. We were told the tart of the day as an afterthought - the waiter had started walking away from the table after quickly leaving the desert menus down and said 'Oh yeah...the tart is strawberry bakewell'. We left after our mains and had our coffees and deserts elsewhere in more comfort. The overall atmosphere in this restaurant is stuffy but this could have been lifted with a smile from the waiting team. I will not be back and wouldn't advise a visit.

We went for the early bird menu here recently and enjoyed it. The cost was 25+12.5% service. Menu was quite limited, around 3 starters, 2 mains and 2 desserts. Food was good. Only complaint was the wine list was very expensive and not geared to "casual" diner.. He could have more choices in the 20-30 range. Having seen the a la carte and the overall prices for a full night out, I'm not sure I would be rushing back. Dan

Lovely place but in these times, it may be a little on the pricey side ... there was a great buzz on the Saturday evening when we visited ... we were lucky enough to get a table at the window overlooking St Stephen's Green ... I wondered was that because we had booked through Menupages ;o) ... I must admit that I was a fan of the previous establishment that was based here but it is amazing to see how a bit of remodeling & a lick of paint can breathe life into a place ... felt really bright & airy So for the starters we had the Spiced Beef Tartar (we liked they way that they commented "so you are a fan of raw meats" just so we knew what to expect) & the Pot of Wild Irish Mussels ... both starters were beautifully presented ... for the mains we had the Rib Eye steak and the Salmon Fishcakes ... if I'm being overly critical, I would probably say that the rib eye was slightly overdone for my liking ... but the Salmon Fishcakes were fantastic ... my biggest gripes about the meal are probably that you struggle to find a bottle of wine for less €40 and that they charge €5 for a side order of veg ... dont get me wrong the veg was just the way I liked it ... still had a bit of crunch in them but €5 is a little on the steep side as far as I am concerned ... for dessert, we had the Strawberries which were beautiful ... I was finding hard to choose ... in the end the Creme Caramel was recommended by the waitress and I wasnt disappointed. Overall it was a pleasant evening and I would definitely return ... unfortunately due to the cost, €182 for 2 including the 12.5% service charge, that others have referenced :o( ... dont think I'll be able to return that often which I feel is a shame

Went for the lunch special, but of course spent more with wine. The room is beautiful, really loved the decor - luxurious ambiance that we don't experience as often anymore. Food was excellent, myself and my friend both had mackeral to start, cold starter but very tasty. For main we had the rainbow trout, it was perfect. Desserts were great, one was a paid of circular like mille filles with caramel on top, the other cherry compote, which surprised me, it was divine. Definetely a treat but I would go back for sure.

Yes it's pricey but it was lovely, typical Richard Corrigan fare and all beautifully presented. Scallops and black pudding starter was fantastic. Mains of hake and fish pie very tasty, side dishes a bit over expensive. Delicious trifle - RC makes the best trifle in the world in my opinion. We had to search the wine list for a decent bottle under 40 euro, chilean chardonnay was a pleasant surprise when we got it (37.50) but in today's recessionary times this restaurant is just at the edge of what is reasonable to expect to pay for dinner in Dublin. Given the surroundings and quality food it just sneaks into the 'worth it' category for a special occasion.

Richard Corrigan and his management need to have a re think ..and fast. I have just had lunch in his restaurant with a friend. I had been in March and really enjoyed it. This time the restaurant was only a quarter full. We had the €25 3 course lunch special. The starter of leek and potato (served cold) was fine. The main's of sea trout with asparagus were nice but small. We had 2 sides of fries and boiled potatoes which were nice. However at almost €5 each Richard would need to rethink about his pricing. About 20 cent worth of raw material indicates that he is either: a: Paying too much rent or b: Getting his potatoes "hand reared" in the same place as his chickens or c: Fleecing us The desert of cherry's and 1 blob of ice cream was something that you would find left over on a plate after eating a desert at home. 2 x 250ml carafe's of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc was lovely but at €29.50 a little pricey. However my real gripe was the 12.5% "discretionary" service charge that was added to our bill. On close inspection our bill had the number of guests inputted as 6. This in no doubt was the "tell" the billing system to add the 12.5% to our bill. We challenged this and the very nice waiter said it was a Management decision to do this and he agreed with our point of view as he and his colleagues only received a small amount of it. He removed it and we left a cash tip on the table as the service was good. Before leaving I asked to see the Manager and gave him our opinion on this policy. He said the the service charge was discretionary. However as I explained to him restaurants should not use the Ryanair method of advertising one thing, hiding all the hidden charges (in a very sneaky way) and leaving it up to the poor customer to untick the boxes. If I wanted to eat like that I would just go to the local chipper.......actually now there's an idea. Richard look at your business before it's too late and fix it. By the way try North County Dublin for real Spuds!

When is an advertised 3 course lunch for 25 Euro not an accurate representation of what's on offer in house? Bentley's proudly displays their lunch price outside for the passing trade to pursue and hopefully take advantage of. After previous pleasurable dining experiences there, we booked for lunch on Friday only to be asked if we would eat said lunch at the bar. I respectfully declined eating while watching the bar tender ply his trade while he watched us eat and they gave us a table in an almost 1/4 full diningroom which remained well over half empty for the duratiuon of our stay. At any rate I ordered the lemon soul which came blood red from the bone outwards at the top and was told when ordering the fish , that was all you got and if you wanted spuds and veg, then I could pay for them separately at I think 4.50 a pop. I declined to become a part of this farce. Himself had fish and chips that were fine but were fish and chips at the end of the day and not on the special lunch menu.I had a ginger creme brulee that was fine. On top of all this was a 12.5% service charge for god knows what service and I left still hungry. If you advertise a lunch for a certain price, then I consider it false advertsing for that not to be a complete lunch. I also do believe 9 50 for a glass of Savignon Blanche to be exsessive as well. We weekly dine out for lunch and have done the gamut of fine dining establishments availing of their lunch specials and almost always enjoying the experience and I have to say I was very disappointed in Bentley's. Won't be back and certainly cannot recommend it to any of my foodie friends.

I was amazed with the food quality at Bentley's- we had Galways oysters (delicious!), given the season a selection from their asparagus starters menu (delicious again, although very very very small) , the best fish/seafood pie I have ever had in Ireland (delicious!) and the crozier blue cheese soaked in wine for dessert (extremely delicious!). My friend enjoyed his oysters and the lobster a hell of a lot too :) The organic wine and the armagnac were good accompagnements to this excellent meal. Service was friendly but needed more training in regards to menu options- the waiter also forgot to offer neither bread nor water at any stage. Bentley's is not the cheapest seafood choice in town indeed, but the food quality clearly surpasses most competitors in this city. A winner.

We came here for a reunion of old friends and its the first of an early bird marathon that we've decided to do. We all went for the three course pre-Theatre menu for €25. All the starters were great. The organic chicken Caesar salad I ordered was delicious. For the main I went for the Roast Hake and it was very nice. It was the best choice of the two mains as well. The Sirloin steak my two friends order was far too thinly cut and was far too cooked for a medium order (both orders). The staff kindly provided a side of chips and left the bread with us for the main course, which was good, because we needed it. We didn't order sides and we would have still been hungry otherwise. I think side orders should not be extras, vegetables make part of a main course. The desert was very nice too, vanilla and chocolate parfait. Another small portion but it didn't need to be any bigger. I know it was an early bird deal of three courses for €25 (two courses would have been €20). If they increased this to €30 (and €25 for two courses) and included side orders per person, we would have been a lot happier leaving. But the food I order was still very very nice to eat, if a bit on the small portion side. I would recommend, but don't expect to be full when leaving.

The meat wasn't cooked at all despite asking for "very well done". As a homebrewer the aroma is not as important as all others say, next time I pay a tenner for a glass of wine it better be full! The servings were tiny. Their mixed salad was incredible. Service was very good and friendly yet they still leave you alone. Atmosphere went unnoticed so was nice and relaxed. Overall steer clear until they clean up their act, start actually cooking the food and serving decent portions! ps: cost 100+ (total ripoff) From, H.P.

Beautiful dining room, excellent service as you would expect. The menu offers a great choice of fdishes, with a varying price range to suit all people. The wine list disappointly is on the expensive side, with very few wines under 40e a bottle.

I visited Bentleys late on a sunday, the restaurant was half full with a nice atmosphere and open fire. Tables are very comfortable and attention to detail impeccable (sliver dinnerware ect). For starters we had artichoke soup which had a wonderful consistency and stuffed calamari with feta which was also great and very well presented. A different cheese may have been be more successful though (some others noted the dish was salty). For mains we both ordered venison with red cabbage, it was cooked perfectly and really excellent. The only minor complaint was the service. Although efficient, it was cold. Overall the food was really well executed but the lacking enthusiasm of staff makes Bentleys less memorable.

A mixed bag really - we received a very warm welcome; really excellent front of house staff, the layout of the room is lovely although some of the decor jars a bit - stuffed fish anyone? The service started well but went a bit downhill from there. One of the strangest things happened as we finished our mains - one of the waitresses appeared with an iron and spray and started ironing the tablecloths at the tables towards the front of the room. The diners around her looked a bit surprised and the ironing soon stopped. I agree with other reviewers - the credit crunch menu is great value (if very limited - two choices per course) and the sole in particular was delicious. Breads also deserve a mention, particularly the pastry that came the onion soup. Desserts didnt appeal at all so I ordered off the a la carte menu and had a fabulous sticky toffee pudding. Bill, when it arrived, was surprisingly high given that all of us bar two were on the credit crunch menu. I've a feeling the mineral water isn't cheap. Service started well but slipped off a bit - one of the desserts was forgotten but apart from that (and the burst of ironing) it was fine. There was a lovely buzzy atmosphere in the room and from looking around, not everyone there was keeping to the credit crunch menu so it looks like Richard Corrigan may be right - the recession is the right time to open!

Great food and best lunch deal in town. Have been here 3 times twice for dinner where the service wasn't as good as other top class restaurants in Dublin , and also once for lunch whcih was excellent. Just over €20 for a 3 course lunch to exceptional standards is one of the best offers available.

Had a very nice 'solo' meal at the oyster bar this evening. I was very impressed with the place. It is classy and elegant and the staff are attentive and not overly fussy. Had a half dozen Carlingford Lough oysters. The waiter threw in a Galway Bay for good measure. A nice gesture, the kind of thing that makes all the difference really. They serve it with fresh, warm bread too. Plus seeing them prepare the oysters right in front of you is a real culinary turn on. Ordered salmon fishcakes (outstanding) with a side of steamed potatoes. With a perfectly pulled dbl espresso to finish...I will definitely be coming back here. Next time with a date! Loving that Sinatra in the background as well..

I visited for lunch. I had leek and potato soup to start which together with bread was delicious. I was a little bit underwhelmed with the lamb pudding but perhaps that's just a subjective point. Main courses should be garnished with a small portion of potato and vegetable. If one is very hungry, then that's what side orders should represent. Forcing the customer to add these items at extra charge is simply not acceptable. The Rum baba dessert was quite good. Service could have been better as I felt somewhat neglected during the meal.

Eventually got to visit here for my birthday & loved it. Had Seafood soup to start & Cod for main course & a rum soaked sponge with aniseed ice-cream for desert, everything was cooked to perfection and although the main course was a wait of 45mins (which we were given a completmentary glass of wine each for) it was well worth the wait. Nice place for special occasion.

I had read and heard overwhelmingly negative reviews, and yes, I should have listened. Though the oyster selection was good, they are, as noted by another reviewer below, tough to get wrong once the raw ingredients are good. My squid starter was tasty, but very salty. Main of braised beef was a very strange combination which I tried out of curiousity. If I threw this together in my kitchen at home I'd come to the conclusion that it didn't work, so for a top chef to give it his stamp of approval is a bit baffling. Prices completely out of kilter with the food, though the atmosphere was decent.

visited here yesterday for the first time, the room itself is lovely and warm and the addition of irish music was a nice and enjoyable addition. The greeting was very pleasant but the service went downhill from there no smile no follow ups to ask how our food was I saw customers pouring their own wine and it took me ages to get a second bottle mineral water, also noted the addition of service charge to every bill, this never helps the service I find. Food was good starters mussels and seafood selection mains a lovely fish (haddock) and average chips and a nice cod, wanted to try dessert but I became to impatient waiting to order as I watched our waitress ironing tables, Ill be back food is good and when they "iron" out the service it will great addition as we need more seafood restaurants in Dublin

When you pay the type of prices that Bentley's charge you expect attention to detail. This is not what we got when we went here last friday evening. Service was ok. Food was ok. Staff were nice if a little forgetful. Everything about Bentleys (except the decor) reminded me of a very basic local restaurant and I felt absolutely robbed when the bill came. While nothing went very wrong I would certainly not advise anyone to go here as for these prices you can have a much better experience elsewhere in the city.

Visited Bentleys last Friday evening. Service was reasonable and surroundings not bad. However was extremely dissapointed in the food and value. The starter I did enjoy but then they were Oysters and unfortunately if you have good Oysters its hard to get them wrong. Main of Veal and dessert were both poor for the money. The combination of ingredients on the main was odd and did not work very well. I also found the veg side orders quite salty. Granted we did have some of the pricier choices off the menu and you could have eatten for less, but overall it was very dissapointing and I would not be rushing back.

Visited Bentley's on Friday night. The reception was very pleasent and the table we were given was a nice one by the fire with plenty of room. I had the lobster to start which was nice, but nothing special, the same with the oysters my wife had. For the main we both went for the veal. The meat was tender and delicious, but it was swimming in grease. The sides were nice, but again nothing special. Finally the desert was a chocolate pudding that was so strong it had a tobacco flavour, and an nice sticky toffee pudding. All in all a nice meal, but not up to the standard you expect for the place or the price. Not in a rush to go back.

My boyfriend and I went to Bentleys the day after Valentines, like others, to avoid the rush and hype of Valentines Day. Overall the experience was very disappointing. Having studied the menu, our waitress asked what we would like.. I had king prawns to start...lovely but nothing spectacular! My boyfriend had the squid with feta and chorizo which was really nice. However when we went to order our mains... I chose Duck and my boyfriend chose the Lamb medley, both of which, we were told, were unavailable!! Having heard great things about the fish pie, he decided he would try it while I went for the cod with puy lentils etc. While my cod was very tasty, a couple of bites into the fish pie and we discovered the prawns were raw! Very disappointing. As I was half way through my dish, my boyfriend decided to have oysters instead...assuming they would be quick....not so!!! Desert was ok but for the price it was nothing to write home about...or in here for that matter! The oysters were complimentary, as was our wine and of course they took off the price of the fish pie. having said that I won't be back in a hurry. There are plenty far less ostentatious restaurants to choose from.

Was here for the second time & again had a brilliant time. From the extremely warm welcome, a brief drink in the upstairs bar to the fantastic table by the window (table 43 I think?!) and the helpful waiter, everything was brilliant! Had a gorgeous smoked haddock. So simple, but so lovely. Also had the fish & chips. Great value for such a lovely afternoon in one of Dublin's nicest rooms. The dining room was packed on a late wednesday afternoon but the staff took it in there stride & made sure everything was perfect. Looking forward to the next visit!

Overall, last night's experience was a lovely one. The staff were welcoming and attentive from the off. The bar upstairs was very dark in decor and lacked atmosphere as a result but we were not long waiting to be brought to our table in the lovely main restaurant. Our starters went down very well (although the watercress salad was swimming in dressing) and we had to ask for seconds of the beautiful bread which was served! The mains, again, were devoured and shared around. There were many dietary requirements at our table and staff were really helpful in catering to our needs. The one gripe came at the end when we got the bill. The winelist was misleading and what we thought was the price of a bottle of wine turned out to be the price of a carafe. This greatly increased the bill total. Overall, a very pleasant experience.

This was my first visit to Bentley's and after reading several recent bad reviews on the menupages, it was with some trepidation I made a booking for Thursday night (had voucher was given as gift) but I need not have worried. We were warmly greeted on arrival and our coats were taken for us. When being shown to our table were also greeted by two staff on floor. The restaurant was full and to me this says a lot in times of a recession. We both ordered the smoked salmon for starters & this was the only item that represented bad value. Although thickly cut, we just got five small pieces and at €15 I thought it was a expensive. I ordered the steak and my husband the black sole & both portions were large and tasted wonderful. The home made chips I ordered with the steak were delicious as was the side salad. Deserts were excellent and the wine we ordered represented good value. Service was fast, efficient and friendly. Definitely merits another visit - I will be back.

went here for a friends birthday and we were all looking forward to the meal. However it started badly and continued on from that, the people who chose the oysters for starters got them when we had all finished our own starters. I went for the squid which was too salty, i then had the rib-eye steak for main course which was certainly nothing special. The dessert of chocolate fondant was cooked perfectly however but all in all, the food does not warrant the prices charged. To top it off, one of the party waited 25mins for a brandy after the meal. We did have drinks afterwards upstairs which were some of the best ive had and the surroundings were very cosy. I will be back but only for a drink upstairs before my booking in another restaurant nearby...

Went here for lunch and left totally disappointed. We received a nice welcome and were seated at our table immediately but, after being left sitting there for about ten minutes, I had to ask for a menu. Service throughout was poor. I went for the fish and chips which was totally tasteless, the mushy peas had vinegar in them, not to my taste. My daughter had the fish pie which she found tasteless and the few prawns in the dish were tough. The desserts are expensive, we shared a lemon pie which was ok. As already stated dishes were tasteless, and the presentation was very poor. The only good thing to say about the place is that the bread was tasty. We will not be returning.

We had lunch on Valentines Day wanting to avoid the whole Valentines thing later. The only sitting we could get was for 12, so with the menu being the same price as dinner it was with regret we didn't wait for a dinner booking a few weeks later. I thought it was nice, but that's not enough I think for the price. I had the stuffed squid, I liked the saltiness of the feta and chorizo with the squid. We love scallops so ordered them also thinking though that for €19 we'd be getting more than 2 scallops. Lovely but not worth the price. The infamous fish pie was delicious. I had the cod with salsa verde which was well cooked but with not enough salsa verde and way too much puy lentils which were a little tasteless. Dessert was delicious and after the large portions for the mains (I conveniently forgot the portions of the starters) I was wondering where the rest of my orange pudding was. It was an experience, I won't be rushing back.

Had been looking forward to eating here for a while but I am so disappointed with it that I felt I had to post a review. The service got off to a bad start when the host would not take the time to listen to my name properly and despite my correcting him caused mayhem when they could not find our reservation ! That sorted, we were seated at a table that was so close to the people beside us I could hear the fellow beside me crunching his bread and every word being said. On to the food - my wife had Prosciutto and Fig starter, very nice she admitted but how it was €15.50 for 3 slices and a fig is beyond me !. My starter was baby squid stuffed with fetta and chorizo. This was so disappointing, firstly it had a skin on top that made it seem as though it had been reheated or it had been sitting under heat lamps. The squid was like rubber, and whats worse it tasted like 3 salty sausages in an oily soup. Not good at all. Last thing I will complain about is the main course ( although nothing else was anything above mediocre ). I had Smoked Haddock with a poached egg on top. This came out soaked in a honey mustard sauce that totally overpowered the fish - I could taste nothing else from the plate. We do eat out quite a lot and have had the privilege to eat in many of Dublin's eateries - I won't be back to Bentley's - the food is not only below par but in my opinion awful and the place is seriously over priced.

Table of two were seated at 5.40, didn't finish a three course dinner until 9.30! One of the starters was tasty but exceptionally small, about four small forkfuls of risotto. Both the mains were bland and very forgettable. Sides were pretty tasteless. During the meal the chefs were heard screaming abuse at each other which is something i have never ever come across and was very shocking for a restaurant of this reputation. For desserts we had the chocolate fondant which was ok, no complaints but i've had better. The cheese plate was odd to say the least, one very very slim slice of each cheese, not served with bread or crackers but a cookie??? The waiter offered us complimentary champagne or port, presumably to make up for all the cursing shouts from the chefs. We asked for the champagne and he came back with white wine. All in all i wouldn't return. The staff were polite but seemed shocked whenever we spoke to them, was never shown to the bar or asked for my coat. The decor was nice enough. The meal took far too long, still had no mains at 7 and had planned on being somewhere at 7, we had booked for 5.30. As earlier reviewers mentioned the white jackets are grubby and curling at the ends. An ironed, clean, white shirt would have mad a much better impression. I feel food, service and price are the main factors when judging a restaurant-food was bland, service was less than average and price was extortionate for what you were getting.

One of my favourites! Had been out shopping with the fiancee and we stopped to look at the menu. Minutes later we were inside asking for a table. Sat near the Oyster Bar, we tucked into oysters, then a couple of great mains, washed down with an exceptional gruener vertliner - so good in fact, that we finished the meal and stayed for another bottle. Not a cheap way to pass 3 hours on a Saturday afternoon, but we still discuss it and plan a return visit in the near future.

Celebrated an anniversary here recently, the service was attentive but slightly on the overwhelming side. My partners fish pie was delicious but my fish & chips was overcooked and lacking in moisture. For such a simple dish how can it go wrong. Overall it was a pleasant experience however after all the hype I would have expected a little more.

Had a wonderful meal here and am looking foward to returning. We shared the mixed oysters as a starter and each had the fish & chips. Yummy. I had the lemon tart afterwards. My partner had the cheese plate. Was a bit disapointed with the cheese plate however. I have never seen cheese so thinly sliced (except for processed cheese!). And there was 1 biscuit. It would have been better to have had a couple of thin biscuits to go with the cheese. But apart from this the whole experience was great.

Both of us were looking forward to what we thought would be a pleasant dining experience, but I have to say it was a bit let down. The staff were pleasent and professional, and the atmosphere was lovely. However the meal itself was very disappointing, my starter cost 19.75 euro for two scallops, and the presentation of my wife's Tiger Prawns left a lot to be desired. My main course of Rib Eye steak looked very loney on the white plate except for the spinach puree thrown on top of it. My wife was happy with her course or Steamed mixed fish. We had one Lemon tart between us which was in my opinion the best course of the night, but even that lacked a bit of imagination. Wine started at 32.00 euro and went sky high from there. Overall very bad value for money, wont be returning and certinly wont be recommonding Bentley;s to my friends, we expected much more from Chef Corrigan.

Not Impressed. Had heard great things but did not experiance. Two of us ate here and found the menu to be very limited. The wait staff never mentioned the specials so we ordered without realising we could have had a better choice. Ordered the veal while large came with no sauce- quite disappointing. Used a voucher we had recieved as a gift to pay and the waiter treated this as shocking-very rude. Will not return

We chose Bentley's for a belated Christmas work lunch after reading all of the rave reviews and being fans of Corrigan expected only the best. Having read through the other reviews I can see I'm not the only one who was more than a tad disappointed. One of the first things I noticed was the fact that the waiter's uniforms were, in general, very ill-fitting and grubby - if you're going to do white jackets please do it well. The service was fine, not outstanding, but grand. To start I had the special - Tuna Tartar with oyster foam and a quail's egg. I felt rather embarrassed at having this thing in front of me - it came in a jam jar!! Bad move Corrigan! It did taste lovely though. Next up was the fish pie. I had decided I wouldn't order it before we arrived as I think you can make a lovely fish pie at home. When put on the spot I figured it must be something wonderful, after all everybody's raving about it. Out came a dish of potato, very nice creamed spud but if I just wanted potato I would have just ordered potato!! I had a hard time looking for the fish but eventually found 2 VERY small hard prawns, 1 small bit of salmon and 1 small bit of haddock (I think, having had so much spud my tastebuds were in shock). For desert I had the lemon tart which was beautiful, thank goodness! Really lovely creamy curd on a crunchy base with good tart raspberry sorbet. Overall, I would say Bentley's has a long way to go before it can really be put in the same league as the other high end restaurants.

Christmas lunch for family of 3. Lovely formal atmosphere yet looked after a 7 year daughter. She did famously with a humungous piece of deep fried fish - it was wonderful - fresh and batter was crunchy. The fish soup was the best I've had - I would have been happy with that alone. The fish pie was just that ...a fish pie - couldn;t fault it but I think I took a wrong choice there. And the fish dish of the day ...was given the thumbs up by my wife. All in all I recommend it was a holiday/special meal.

I've been a few times and have to say i haven't had a bad experience. we dinned on xmas eve lunch and while the tables where crammed in, the food and service was great. I had fish curry and my had the rib eye which may not of been cooked the way she wanted it still had the flavour. Main course only and 2 glasses of wine less than a hundred euro. not bad!

After reading the great reviews by authors such as Tom Doorley and Paulo Tullio we decided to pay Bentley's a visit. What a disappointment.... Where shall I start. As we were early for our booking we decided to have a pre dinner drink in the Aviator Bar. The smell that greeted us in the stairwell on route to the bar was foul. After having two Kir Royale's (€17 each) with the Creme de Casis lodged in the bottom of the glass we made our way down for dinner once again confronted by the rancid smell on the way. The specials of the night were outlined to us by a waiter in an ill fitting, grubby ,once white jacket. The starters of smoked salmon and stuffed squid were good and the friendly waitress was very efficient and apologised when our wine of choice was unavailable. The fillet steak was good but not outstanding as you would expect for €41. The traditional fish and chips was very disappointing. The batter was very heavy and greasy and not of the light fluffy variety as expected, and the chips were average. And despite asking for a side salad with no olives, it arrived with olives. The steak was ordered with a side order of mashed potatoes which arrived 10 minutes after the steak. The chocolate fondant was overcooked and the soft centre was dry. When we got our bill it was incorrect and we brought it to the attention of the waitress who corrected it. I realise that I am being critical but when you pay a bill of €230 for 2 people, you would expect a better than average meal. We have had far superior meals and dining experiences for half the price. When we do go out for a special occasion we don't expect our conversation to be about the bad smell, the bad food, and the bad value in relation to the particular restaurant. Sadly this was the case in this instance......

Definately the best restaurant in Dublin. On arrival we had a few cocktails in the bar relaxing. About 30 mins later we were seated for dinner. The service was amazing, I was shoocked when i saw the prices. So cheap, it is a 5* restaurant with 3* prices. The fish pie is outstanding. It was an experience I will ever forget.

There is always one table to be avoided in a restaurant and we were unfortunate to get it yesterday (booked on line so didn't realise this at the time). It's table 24 in Bentley's right on the stairs in the middle of the restaurant going to the Oyster bar. My main gripe is that they tend to forget about you at these tables, service was only OK. Anyway we did enjoy our meal a lot and the food would/may bring us back. Scallops starters for both of us, Haddock and Rib Eye Steak mains were Yum.

Absolutely love this place - from the moment we arrived until we had to leave which i hated doing!! What a buzz on a tuesday night. We had booked an early sitting and were about a half an hour late so ushered straight to our table. We never felt any time pressure from our very attentive friendly waiter. You can spend as much or as little as you want here - wonderful fish and chips at under €20 which my husband had and the delicious smallish but very sweet and succulent lobster at just under €50 which i had ... yum. To be able to retire after dinner upstairs in the bar with burning fire overlooking St.Stephens Green, what a setting, great paintings and really comfortable chairs. I love this place! Cheers Richard and all your team!

Booked a table for 2 for a celebratory dinner, I could only get a 6 o clock sitting, so we were expecting the atmosphere to be a liitle quite, however it was not, it filled up very quickly and there was a good buzz. To the food, the Wild smoked salmon was a delight a real deep pink/red colour with an intese salmon taste. It really reminded mt of how much poor quality smoked salmon we actually have to put up with. The plaice was a special on and it was supurb. It was cooked without the skin, but yet it was in tact and so delicately cooked that it was intense falour with no soggyness. We had some very nie mash. We declined dessert as we are not great dessert lovers. We did order a Bottle of Pinot Greggio that really was well selected for a blend of dryness that suited the meal supurbly. The wine list is extensive but a large part of it was outside our budget (no more that $32 on wine). Service was friendly and rapid, only minor complanit was that the wine only arrived at the end of the starters. We retired to the aviator lounge for some wine as it was only 8pm on saturday, we stayed for another 2 hours. Great night, great buzz and great value for city centre location.

Myself and my partner took my parents here for a celebration dinner and we were preparing to be paying off the credit card for the next few months. I was very surprised and delighted when the bill arrived. The restaurant is fantastic and the food amazing, the Gazpacho is without doubt the best I have ever had. Prime location, great food, great service and great value - who could ask for more.

Six of us ate her for lunch and we must say everything about the experience of this restuarant was fantastic. We started in he lounge upstairs for pre-lunch bloody mary's, served by very helpful bar staff. We were shown to the dining room, which is a really well laid out room, suitably decorated with really comfortable chairs. An emphasis of fish on the menu, which is a welcome change in Dublin. I had the lobster bisque to start, and the cream is served on the side which is a great idea as to not swap the bowl. For my main course I had the fish pie, a real wholesome dish and pipping hot the way I like it. We share some greens, which were served to perfection. My guests all appeared to really enjoyed their food also. We shared a generous cheese plate and dessert. There was no pressure for us to leave the table and the staff could not have been more pleasant and in our case our waiter was highly entertaining. For the quality of food, service, athmosphere we found this restaurant, really good value. (For party of 6 or more there is a service charge, so we did not leave a tip). We had an after lunch drink in the bar, and at this stage there was a roaring fire in place, almost too comfortable for us to leave.

After watching the Late Late show we decided to go to Bentley's for lunch on Saturday. It was quite pricey but as a treat its worth paying the extra money for the extra attention to detail. The atmosphere when we walked in was warm and bubbly. We sat at the oyster bar and our waiter was friendly, professional and very attentive. It was also interesting to see him opening the oysters! We both had muscles to start and fish and chips for main. The muscles were well seasoned and the fish was absolutely delicious. We ended up staying there for about three and a half hours enjoying our meal, and our friends joined us at the bar for some hot whiskeys. Perfect way to spend a cold Saturday afternoon.

Went here for lunch on Wednesday. Was surprised to see that it is the same menu that runs from the day through to the evening. Service was a bit messy the waiting staff seemed to be all over the place. One even managed to drop two separate courses on tables beside us. The food was presented well however the balance of flavours was not with a heavy hand used on certain ingrediants (Halibut over powered with Safron). Overall the meal was just "fine",. Would not be eager to rush back or reccommend to others.

Having had lunch at Bentleys last Saturday, I am left with mixed feelings. Possibly my expectations were too high, having had what was one of the best meals ever in The Mill, Corrigan's previous restaurant in Celbridge, last year. The food was good, but not amazing. The staff were attentive, but possibly OTT at times, the wine was excellent. Some good points: Very generous portions of a selection of bread, as well as asking us if we would like more; excellent bottle of wine at the cheaper end of the menu (€35); huge portions; On the other hand: Service, while attentive, seemed a little scattered; very expensive for lunch (prices more appropriate for dinner). Finally, the chocolate mousse for desert is heaven in a pot!

Lunch for 6. Overall had a disappointing experience, but then maybe my expectations were too high. Lovely room, welcoming fire and nice atmosphere. But, service was very poor. Our waiter was inexperienced and kept disappearing. The wine appeared after our starters arrived and we had a long wait for our coffee's at the end. The food was good - however do ask for an explanation of some of the dishes to be sure of what you are getting. Food in general was well recieved by all. It will be a long time though before I go back for seconds.

My partner and I had an early lunch here last Saturday. The welcome was pleasant, the dinning room is superb. Clean and cosy with a distinctly French decor and a welcome open fire. I had west of Ireland smoked salmon, maybe the best I've tasted, followed by cod in beer batter with thickly cut chips and mushy peas. The batter was slightly overdone, the fish flaky, moist and delicious. The mushy peas are a real winner. My Partner had the Fish pie, it lacked any real flavour, you do need the Tabasco supplied, portion wise it's huge. We washed it all down with a fine white from Portugal. It's not cheap but it's worth a second taste.

Went to Bentleys last week, really enjoyed it. My partner had the fish pie, which was both massive and very tasty. I had an extremely expensive steak, which was, however, perfectly cooked, with a beautiful bearnaise sauce, even the carrots with tarragon were lovely! We sat at the bar and really enjoyed it. Richard Corrigan, I take my hat off to you.

Visited here after reading a great review in the Independent that talked about the value for money. I can't agree. Apart from the fish pie and fish and chips everything else on this menu is hugely over priced. Steak €42, sole €49. Sorry, I don't care how good they are that seems crazy. But that was okay. All three of us had fish and chips which was tasty, no complaints. Can't say the same about the bill. We had had 4 glasses of wine in the bar while we were waiting for a table and were charged €54.00!! If I go back to Bentleys it will only be if someone else is paying.

I find it hard to believe the rave reviews after our experience. I booked a table some weeks in advance for a mid-week lunch. At the time I specified it was for my wife and I, that it was our wedding anniversary and that we would have a nursing infant with us. My wife and infant daughter arrived before I did and were greeted with consternation. In fact my wife was told that breast feeding was strictly a no-no. To put this in perspective, there is no public spectacle being made of nursing our child so don't get in high dudgeon, discretion is the name of the game. The same day the Irish Times had devoted acres of news print to a case where a nursing infant was prevented feeding in a government office. Anyway the staff backed down but insisted it was a "policy" of the restaurant! Isn't that strictly illegal if not incredibly poor form and bad manners? go figure. They were then placed in front of the main doors in full public view and in a draft on the coldest day this year up until that date! By the time I arrived the table had been changed to one on the Bar level. We had the fish pie which was just super if you like musty prawns. Our anniversary lunch had been compromised enough at that stage so I said nothing about it. Some friends were there some nights later and were also under whelmed. It was just so bloody disappointing. Too many people are easily impressed by nice surroundings, an association with “celebrity” and good marketing. I don’t plan on going back on my own cheque.

Went to Bentleys for lunch on Sunday. The room is impressive but the tables are too close together. Our entertainment was provided by the party beside us! We had an excellent waitress who was very helpful and made sure to let us know what each dish came with. Food was good but the highlight was after lunch when we moved upstairs to the Aviator Lounge for cocktails. A really relaxed and cozy atmosphere. Was disappointed that the manager never bothered to check us during the meal as I would expect a restaurant of this calibre to make a policy of this. Overall a positive experience but I wouldn't be in a massive hurry to go back. Also quite expensive for lunch.

Manage your expectations down. With all the press inches dedicated to this Corrigan venture I was confident the experience was going to be something special. Beginning with the decor.. it was underwhelming and lacking sophistication that I could only assume it was decorated in a rush. And for the service.. some staff training might be advised. My glass of wine ordered to be enjoyed with my main, eventually turned up as I was clearing the plate. Steak requested with pepper sauce on the side, come completely covered in sauce. When informed the service staff took the plate away and the steak reappeared with the sauce scrapped off the sides. Shame, shame, shame.... We skipped desserts and made a hasty retreat.

We dined here on Saturday night, and loooking around the restaurant and bar you would wonder if there really is a recession in Ireland - the bar and restaurant were packed to the gills and rightly so. The food, atmosphere and service were spot on, although not cheap it is definately worth a visit. We started with oysters and smoked salmon, the best I have ever tasted. The mains of lamb (just under €35 for one chop, liver and kidney) and salmon fishcakes (under €16 for 2 perfect ones) were devoured along with some side dishes which cost extra. The service was exceptional, very friendly yet professional. I can't wait to go back.

Having had a successful first visit to Bentleys we decided to try again and we succeeded to get a booking for Firday lunchtime. I had decided beforehand to have the tempura oysters and I was not disappointed. It is an absolute treat. I had the fish and chips again and was a little put off because it was slightly overdone and a little bit on the dry side. The chips were great, though and I viewed the fish through a lens made of tempura oysters. Lemon tart to finish and it was sublime but I was let down by a very less than ordinary coffee. I'll wait until the New Year before returning in case I am simply breeding contempt.

My wife and i grabbed two main courses today for lunch, first class. everything made us feel at ease in this cracking dining room, served by a very friendly girl, restaurant manager very forthcoming with advice and just a genuine nice bunch of staf. we were tempted by the oysters to start, fat juicy and fresh, perfect. Fish pie and Fish n Chips for mains, perfect. dessert was the winner though, the lemon tart was far and away the best i've ever had, warm, with a proper crispy pastry, ive never had such a crispy fresh pastry base to a wet tart like this. real cooking skills at work. service was great earning our best tip ever. well done corrigan and staff

Superb reception, altough disorganised the service was nothing but attention then came the food...Scallops special were recommended, one scallop divided in three rings, one slice of black pudding and some bisque sauce for 17 Euro!! Oysters Rockfeller were very nice, poached haddock was good and my fish basket with thai spices sauce was on the bland side. The restaurant is nice but not warm, lacking of athmosphere. Not a place for a romantic dinner. Been there done that.

What a disappointment! We had high expectations after a fabulous lunch last year in Corrigan's place in Cellbridge. Service was appaling. A bowl of chips was brought to our table, our 1st reaction was: we did not order it but then thought it came with one of our main course. We were about to taste them when the maitre d'ho took it back saying it had been delivered to the wrong table. How bad is this? I also ordered peppermint tea and was given black tea. No amuse bouche, no chocolate or biscuits with tea/coffee: is this just an ordinary restaurant? The tables are too crammed, the toilets are not up to standard, there's a big photocopy machine in the lobby area, the waiters are wearing dreadful and oversized white jackets. The food is good and the portions are very decent but that's about it. We will not go back.

First time writing about, but not first time eating out. bentley's oyster bar is the height of whats happening in Dublin....Had dinner for two on sunday night and i haven't been so impressed in a restaurant in Dublin in many years, everything about the place was top class, the service was amazing, never once did my wine glass even run half empty, the food was out of this world, my other half had the grilled tiger prawns and chickpea puree to begin which was a treat to the palate while i had quite possibly the 6 greatest oysters i've ever eaten, excellent native galway oysters. For mains we had the Fish pie which was served with green tabasco which accompanied it extremely well and also I had Black Sole which was without a doubt the best fish i have every eaten. All of this and a beautiful bottle of wine (Menetou-Salon €50) which was recommened to us was exceptional and accompanied are food brilliantly. An amazing night out and a must for all dubliners or Irish seafood lover for that matter. Bentley's is definitley doing something right because its ticking all the boxes.

Went for lunch, what a rip off. Watery fish pie with lumpy mash. This is one of the signature dishes. I mean, come on, how hard is it to make a fish pie? Sub standard cooking in general. Lose the white Titanic waiter jackets.

My husband and I had lunch here on Sunday to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We were a little disappointed that we couldn't have a drink in the bar beforehand as we were told that it opens at 10am and we were then 45 minutes early for lunch. Still we enjoyed a glass of Kir Royale at the table at our leisure. It is a beautiful room and the oyster bar in the back of the restaurant looks very attractive. Friendly and professional staff and the service was excellent. I had mussels to start with and it was very flavoursome and my husband enjoyed his half lobster. My halibut with mussels and clams was excellent and my husband enjoyed his fish & chips. Not the best chips ever, but very good fish. The mushy peas that came with it was most probably cooked in an authentic way, but it didn't look very appetising. The chocolate mousse was very good and would be more than enough for 2 people to share. Good espressos and the homemade valhrona chocolates were very good. We splashed out as it was a special occasion, but you could have a main and a glass of wine for less than 30euro.

Lunch for two, 1.45 on a Monday afternoon (Chefs day off). What a let down! Limited choice lunch menu. Service was a little better than average, Main courses were dissapointing. We started with a selection of oysters, Native, Carlingfrod, and Galway. Which were prepared by a well informed bar man. Simply served with lemon, tobasco, and a shallot vinnegar. This was accompanied by decent bread and butter. For the main we had the lamb mixed grill and the duck. Both dishes seemed to have been well thought out but extreemely poorly executed. On the Lamb dish, The liver and kidney were well over cooked and the dry flavourless polenta cake certainly didn'd add anything. The Mullard Duck breast was flavoursome while the leg was tough dry and not worth chewing on. The plates were barely warm. Presesntation was good but come on guys get the simpler things right! All the above plus 3 glasses of wine an espresso and cappuccino €120. Hmm??

Four of us ate here as a birthday celebration. The room is nice, the decor is simple but the shell lights look like cheap plastic moulds, plus the tables felt a little close together. The service was very good and nonintrusive. I ordered the fish soup and the veal schnitzel; the soup was tasty but was blended whereas I would have preferred to have some fish pieces left in it. The veal was very salty and as a result I couldn’t finish it. The others were happy enough with their meals but none of us were blown away by exciting flavours or presentation. I wasn’t impressed with the fact that the main courses are not full dishes. You receive only the meat you order and you choose your side dishes at an extra charge. At these prices I would expect the chef to decide what vegetables should accompany the meat served. It also adds hugely to the price, a €42 steak suddenly jumps to €49.80 if you wish to have potatoes and carrots.

Went here on a buzzy Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the whole visit from start to finish. The staff although quite formal looking were lovely & friendly & the service excellent, the food was absolutely superb and excellent value for money - a rare thing in Dublin now, even the room itself is beautiful. Would highly recommend this restaurant & can't wait to go again.

Four of us ate dinner here on Friday night and the whole experience was excellent from start to finish. Our table was ready when we arrived but we were offered the time to have a drink in the bar upstairs, which is a very nice contrast to most Dublin restaurants who want you in and out quickly. The list of starters is far longer than mains, but 2 of the party had trouble choosing as they didn't like the look of any of the starters - the menu is heavily fish oriented but there are meat courses on there too (I don't recall seeing any vegetarian options but I could be wrong). I had mussels to start which were full of flavour, and steamed mixed fish with thai spices for main. The sauce was delicious but didn't overpower the fish. The service was spot-on: friendly yet very professional. The menu had a wide range of prices, mains ranged from 15 to 45 euro so it would be possible to eat here quite cheaply. The total for 4 starters, 4 mains, 1 dessert, chocolates, bottle of wine, 2 bottles of water, 2 coffees and 2 glasses of dessert wine was EUR 206 before service which considering the quality of the food was excellent value. The chocolates were a nice touch - homemade Valrhona chocolates on the dessert menu for 2.50 I think - delicious!

Although its just recently opened, we booked a table of 6 on a Weds for the Thursday, it wasn't a problem. The menu is very "London". Prices are also very London. Our food was nice, I had fish pie, well presented, but the whole experience didn't feel like you got what you paid for. I'll give it another go when things settle, brilliant location and super bar upstairs.

Is the lobster fresh? Oh yes sir replied the waiter. Well it might have been fresh at one stage but my starter of half a lobster mayonaise was frozen at one stage in its life to my taste buds, it was bland and needed all the help it could get. Excuse me shouldn't I have mayonaise with this? Oh did she not bring it? Sorry who is she? Anyway suffice to say that the meal went from bad to worse, my guest had the lobster/black pudding salad(a special of the day) and she said the black pudding completely overpowered the lobster. My main course of fish and chips(great chips by the way) was decent enough, and my guest's main course of fish pie was also decent, but not at any stage did anybody ask us how our meal was. Mr Corrigan (for it was he) passed our table at least three times but never made eye contact. The room is bright and cheerful, the location is one of the best in the country, but on this occasion the quality of the food and the service was of a very ordinary country house hotel somewhere in the midlands circa 1975, what a shame.

Had a great meal here last Saturday night -The weather was bad but that did not stop us heading into Bentleys. 7 of us went for the meal and everyone raved about the service and quality. I had the Tiger Prawns to start and Fish cakes for my main and it was all delicious and filling. Quiet pricey but worth every penny, a place to go for a special occasion

Food Quality, Service and value for money top the ranks at Bentleys on the Green. Could not fault any aspect of my experience there. Portions are generous.... and staff are very attentive but not overly so. Wine list is well layed out - guiding you through by taste descriptions as oppose to by country or region. Will definitely be going back.

This is such a great place, fresh and original. Slightly over staffed I thought even though the place was fully booked. We went last Friday and started with cocktails followed by a selection of oysters. The "rockafella" oysters been my favourite. The oyster bar works very well. The menu is really varied both in price and content. Wasn't able for desert but would strongly recommend the smoked monkfish with poached egg. Can't wait to go back.
