My boyfriend and I went to Afies as we were told they had a great cocktail selection. We phoned ahead and they told us there was no need to make a reservation. So we just arrived at about 8 and we sat at the bar waiting for about ten minutes for a table which was fine as we decided to try some cocktails. They were delicious and for five euro for one it was great value. They only thing bad I could say about the place is that when we were seated it was a bit squashed where we were sitting. It wasnt very intimate for a date setting. We ordered off the 15 euro menu which involves a starter and a main course. They all arive together on a plate in small little bowls. I ordered the chicken wings and pesto chicken pasta and my boyfriend ordered the burger and the chicken wings. Both absolutley incredible. we had a great time and the food was amazing. deffinatly go back again.

We like to go to Alfies as they have 5 Euro Cocktails and they are actually quiet tasty. The food is always nice and they have big portions but lately the food is a bit over priced, which was very disappointing last time we went there..... I wouldn't go there for a romantic dinner tho as it seems to be more a party location for groups but in general its a nice place to go out for dinner with friends!

I have been to Alfies a few times and I really enjoyed it. i love the seating plan and have always been comfortable. I have gone with friends and I have also gone in with my children and every time I enjoyed the food. if I was to suggest anything it would be for all of the staff to have the same level of service and care as if 90% of the staff are excellent it only takes one or two to ruin the experience.... so maybe just be careful with that! Overall - love it!

Popped in here for a quick bite to eat last Friday. Service was top notch, very attentive staff. Fishcake starter was really good, my friend had the chicken curry which was nice too. We ordered fries on the side but they seemed like they had just come out of a fast food chain, a bit soggy and tasteless. I'll be going back but probably only for a small bite and a drink not a full meal.

I recently dined at Alfies and as always the food was gorgeous. However, we dined just before 6pm so the upstairs section of the restauarnt wasn't open. We were put at a table on the ground floor and tables were so close together. As the restaurant got busier you could see the shock in customers faces when they were put at a table so close to another one. It kind of ruined the usual lively atmosphere, as people were talking quitely to avoid the other diners over hearing a conversation. I realise that it makes sence to close off an area of the restaurant if it's not that busy, but I think they should maybe leave the upstairs area open instead. In the event that they do get busier it would avoid having diners sit so close to each other.

Had meal here last month and was very disappointed, the only redeeming point was the fishcake starter, the rest of the meal was of poor quaility. We were left waiting in the bar for a table which was a bit rich as we were the only diners there at that time. Good bye Alfies wont be back.

Been here a few times now, great place to meet with the girls for some drinks and little bites. They do a lunchtime menu for 10euro for 3 little dishes, great value. The chicken wings and nachos are great, the prawns are nothing spectacular. Overall a wide ranch of food to suit everybody. The 5euro cocktails are always a hit. yum. Only negative is when we went around christmas time, even though everybody was eating, they said we had to spend a certain amount each on our meal. We werent told this when we booked the table, and were having plenty of cocktails to make up for it. Regardless, would definately go back again.

I have been here a few times for lunch and I have never been disapointed. The lunch deal is great value with a selection of things to choose from, €10 and you get 3 little dishes on 1 plate plus a drink! Service is always good and staff are friendly. Also went for some dinner here one evening and it was just as good, I got the chicken kiev which was lovely, couldnt finish it was so much. I would reccommend this to anyone, specially for lunch!!

I came here for lunch and I was delighted! Great choice on the menu (for calorie counters too!). I was completely stuffed afterwards...and for only €10.00! I would highly recommend the cajun salad. Bargain.Tables are much too close together and as I was eating alone on my lunch break, I heard the entire conversations of both tables either side of me. However, good service and better food; I will definitely return.

Suprised to see negative remarks about this place but I suppose each to their own...I came here two days in a row to avail of their fab lunch menu. There were about 14 of us doing a training course, and if we got there about 12.45, we were able to sit relatively altogether....! The lunch menu for €10 is absolutely fantastic value for money - the service was friendly and quick, the food was delicious and I would highly reccomend this place to anyone who is shopping in town, or out for a business lunch, or who just likes to eat great food at great prices...I would definintely go back as long as they keep their lunch menu at €10 and continue serving their great food...reccomendations : garlic mushrooms, thai curry with rice, bbq chicken salad, steak sandwich. I have never been here in the evening or for drinks so just take my word for it for their lunches!!!

Went here with a party of 12. I had heard great things about this place. Our table was booked for half eight....unfortunately some of the party was late, which can be expected with large groups. At 9.10 we were told we had to order (funny the menu told us food was served until 10pm). A waiter stood over me until I was ready. Food was absolutely delicious. The group ordered from 3 different menus that were available which was a big bonus. Service was slow at times. We were told that last drink orders in the restaurant were at twenty passed ten. I was handed the bill at half ten. Background music was stopped and a door was left open to let in cold air. Lovely food, it just felt like our group was an in and out job. Wouldnt return here in a hurry for good hospitality.

Regularly visit Alfies, and am never disappointed. Love the atmosphere, it's always buzzing, no matter what time of day you arrive. The cocktails in the Sky bar are a must before being seated for dinner!! The staff are always friendly and welcoming and the food looks and tastes fab, each and every time. Am constantly recommending this place to family and friends. I especially like going with my girlfriends, it's the perfect place for cocktails, food and chats.

One place, I cross the street when passing by from now on. I brought one of my clients down to Alfies, as I have seen the place many times, but never gone in there. Staff were nice and sat us down, wasn't busy however it seemed like every small thing took ages to get. Before we got our meal, we witnessed the manager shouting at his staff, about something that apparently wasn't supposed to be his duty. I haven't heard anyone giving out to another human being in such a way in a long time. I felt like leaving, but we already had our wine on the table and were about to be served, so we waited. Manager was not only abusive, but he was aggressive with his gestures. We hadn't been approached or apologized to, after witnessing this. Food average and wines overpriced. Stay away.

Although a native of Dublin I now live in the Uk. I always seem to find myself in Alfies with friends whenever I am home as we go for the great value €5 cocktails, which as delicious and reasonably strong (at least one solid 37.5ml measure per cocktail). Compared to the prices for cocktails elsewhere in Dublin this is amazing value! I have never found them to be watery or weak as other reviewers have. The upstairs bar is also very nicely decked out and has plenty of comfortable chairs and good music. I have only eaten here once and the food was pretty good. Not haute cuisine and quite pricey but perfectly acceptable. I would definately recommend coming here for drinks though.

A busy Saturday - great welcome & seated efficiently. Nice menu well priced, even on sat night !! Party of 6 all well satisfied. On set menu (€59 for 2 - 3 courses plus carafe of wine) - good choice and reasonable to large portions. Service was extremely pleasant & attentive. Great atmosphere. Recommend

Regularly eat here and really love it.. The food is always tasty and their 'lunch box' and 'apres work' deals are fantastic value.. The staff are always super friendly and if your in at weekends they have an in house magician to entertain. Also offer a very nice selection or very reasonably priced cocktails. My only complaint would be that on occasion the service can be a tad slow but the quality of the food and the prices will keep me coming back time and time again.

I've been to Alfies loads of times, no matter what the occasion it's always a good call! Great location, really nice food which is very competitively priced and the atmosphere is always buzzing and lively! My only criticism is that the majority of the staff have very little or no English so it can be tough to get the message across but it would never stop me from coming back as it's probably one of my favourite restaurants in the city

I was extremely disappointed by this restaurant. It had been recommended by friends. So I was happy to go along and give it a try. I gave it two chances: Myself and a friend decided to pop in one Thurs evening after shopping. We stepped inside to ask if they had a table available. The manger on duty quite bluntly told us no, and then went back to to looking in his reservations book so we thought that he was trying to see if he could squeeze us in. He turned around and said quite rudely, "excuse me, I told you there was no table available".....We left thinking .... how rude!!!! I should have known from this first visit, however I gave the restaurant a second chance with a group of six friends from college. We were put to wait at a bar upstairs for our table. After 25 minutes, my friend who had booked the meal asked if our table was ready. He was told to like it or lump it..... "if We didn't like it we could always cancel" We were so shocked and in hindsight should have walked at this stage!!! As we all had a drink at this stage and nowhere else booked we just waited. :( In the end the food was grand!!.......nothing special!!!

Ate in Alfie's with a large group of friends on a Saturday night. I had never been here before and as I tend to eat out at Japanese/Asian restaurants most often I was looking forward to something different. When we arrived our table wasn’t ready and we had to wait 30 minutes in the bar upstairs which was a tad annoying. Then when we finally got our seat there was a large group of loud, drunk girls sitting beside us shouting & cursing, I know everyone deserves to have a bit of fun but seriously management should have said something to quieten them down as they were disturbing everyone else. Food was hit and miss, me and my bf ordered from the set menu (3 Course meal & a bottle of wine for 2 people for €59.95). I got the prawns in chilli and garlic sauce for starters which came with bread. It was nice if not a little too oily. My bf got the meatballs along with a few other people and really enjoyed them. For mains I got Chicken in blackbean sauce with noodles & (the missing) asian fried vegetables. They were accommodating & allowed me to substitute the menu option beef for chicken but the meal was FAR too salty and there was no vegetables at all with it. I ordered a side of broccoli which we had to pay extra for. BF got the Lamb shank which was OK. I got the fruit for dessert which was fine. There was 10 of us in total & most thought it was so so others really liking it. Everyone complained about 1 thing and that was the service, it was slow and really frustrating trying to get their attention. As a large group you would think they would try and at least come over every now and then to see if we were ok. My biggest complaint was how cold the restaurant got, I had to move seats from under the air vent as I was freezing, I guess they were trying to move us along. With a service charge slapped on the bill for terrible service I was not a happy camper. I hate giving out about restaurants but this place needs to up their game. They are far too cocky and don't pay enough attention to the finer details. I guess the reckon their l

Attended a birthday party here on Sunday night and it was terrible. The service was shocking. I actually felt uncomfortable as if I was putting them out by being there. I've been there for lunch and have always found it good value and the food has always been alright but not on this occasion. The food was horrible. I'm never going back.

I stumbled across Alfies while in town for culture night. Didn't have a reservation but after a short wait we got a table for 2. Just after being seated, accidentally a passer-by spilled my drink and immediately the male waiter replaced my glass of prosecco without question. Food arrived (starter and main together, as we were advised) I had fish cake and thai green curry, this was presented well. Portions looked small but really filled me (not easily done!) I thoroughly enjoyed mine and my partner also, who ordered nachos and mini burger with chips. Overall very enjoyable, great atmosphere and super value for money. I have already booked my christmas party here!!

Visited this restaurant with two girlfriends for dinner. Nice welcome, friendly waitress and showed to our table. Food ok. After about hour and a half waitress informed she was going to bring us the bill and asked us to leave the table. friends not finished their drinks, full glasses of wine and not even asked if we would like to see dessert menu. Friend asked if reason why and she said she needed the table. We left a little taken back. Phoned the next day to express my upset after spending eighty euro and been rushed out. we were not initially informed they needed the table within a certain time. a man phoned me back and spoke to me in what can only be desciebed as an histerical rant, including labelling me as an ignornat liar and informed me he didn't want people like us in his restaurant and why was i even ringing. Rant continued for about 15 minutes. Obviously will never be returning to this restaurent nor will my friends. really could of been sorted without the harrasment i experienced and this man alone let himself and the retaurand down.

I rang previously to reserve a table for two and was told that they only take bookings for large groups so we (2) just went along earlyish on a Saturday night. The restaurant was not very busy on arrival. The menu has something for everyone and we decided not to have starters and ordered 1 rib-eye steak and 1 surf n turf. My steak was very good and accompanied by a large bowl of mash and some crispy french friend onions. My friend had a smaller portion of mash as accompaniment but thoroughly enjoyed it also. We both had dessert, cheesecake and pavlova which were well presented and delicious. The restaurant became very busy as the evening went on. Would definitely recommend it for dinner and will be back.

Doing a couple of review of recent restuarant visits and remembered Alfies. It was bloomsday in dublin. We were on the bikes collecting for charity, 22 of us arrived to be warmly greeted. We had cocktails while our dining table was being prepared. I remember the nachos, the best i have ever tasted [they were my girlfriends] but the entire experience was brilliant. Think it was the highlight of the day. well done alfie still smooth as ever!!!

I have been to Alfies on other occasions and liked it. Having missed lunch I remembered their Apres Work menu and decided to try it out. This is really good for the diner who follows a "little bit of everything" approach. There is a choice of first course, second course, potatoes. All are tapa size and served together. I had the fish cakes, tower hamburger and baby potatoes and liked everything. They really take trouble with the finishing touch/garnish and the plate looks so pretty and appetising. The service is attentive and friendly. The interior is a bit darker than I like but there is a really nice outside area. Not quite as good a value as the lunch menu but still pretty ok. Will return

My husband and I visited Alfies on Sunday lunchtime and had the €11 menu each. The food was brought out in small bowls like a Tapas style and were cooked beautifully. For those who like enormous "I cant move after this" portions then this type of menu is not for you. However, if you are like us and like to try a little bit of everything then Alfies is for you. Being smokers, we sat outside but were not forgotten with the staff regularly checking we were ok. The quality and value you get for €11 is fantastic. I would wholeheartedly recommend.

I visited Alfies for the apres work menu with a group of girlfriends. I thought it was a great value proposition at €15 for 3 dishes on one plate and certainly a different idea!! Nice for a quick bite if you are heading on somewhere. Some of the girls weren't so happy with their choices but I have to say I was very happy with mine. I liked that you had a small taste of everything in the 3 different dishes on the one plate. I had the camembert (3e supplement), bbq chicken salad and fries. Another girl had the tower burger and said it was delcious. I think the key is to eat the type of things they do well here and not try to be too adventurous! The €15 caraffes of wine didn't stretch too far so I don't think that was great value - you would be better off getting a bottle.

They have friendly staff on the phone and when you arrive. It's quite dark inside which you can either like or dislike. The menu covers all the bases - nothing terribly interesting other than the taster selection menu which is reasonable value. I hadn't done these taster menus before but staff explained it all clearly. it's the first time I've had my starter and main course on the same plate. The food was fine, I had fish cakes and the 6oz sirloin. My friend had the goat's cheese and tower burger. Overall it wasn't a gastronomical wonder but was perfectly adequate for the type of night we were having. There was a large group on a girls night out beside us which made conversation a bit difficult. Also our table was located on the passageway to the kitchens which meant a lot of hurried traffic past the table by staff. I would come again but sit elsewhere.

Have eaten here a few times recently from the after work menu which is extremely good value at only €15 for a starter, main and side. Really tasty food and good portion sizes. The cocktails are delicious and great value and the magician who performs card tricks at the table is a nice touch! Really buzzy atmosphere and staff are firendly and efficient. Will definitely keep returning!

Had lunch here with a couple of friends yesterday and loved it! We choose from the lunch menu, where there are three lists of food and you choose an item from each list and they all arrive out on the same plate. i choose garlic bread, chicken curry and rice and it was gorgeous. I got 3 big slices of garlic bread, it was so fresh and soft and really garlicy. The curry was really spicy and full of veg and tender chicken. I was stuffed by the time I was finished but I couldnt bear to leave anything behind, it was so nice. We each got a mineral too and all for the price of €10, yes €10!!!! Unreal!! The inside is really nice and well dec'd out and there are seats outside too. Service was prompt and polite. Highly recommended; I'd definitely go back!

Was in Alfies last night with a group of 15. The first thing you notice when you step in is the decor. It's a really nice cosy place with a good atmosphere. It was a bit tight with the 15 of us meaning that a fairly awkward one way system had to be developed to let people move from their seats! The food was really nice but I regret my choices to some extent. They do it a little bit differently here, we all ordered from the €15 menu which gets you 3 small dishes presented to you at the same time. I had garlic bread with steak and fried onion rings. The garlic bread was nothing special, it just tasted like garlicey toast. The steak was very nice. I got it rare and it was cooked perfectly. The onion rings were quite nice but by the time I got to the last few I was bored of them because they were a bit bland. Overall though I was happy with the food. I'd recommend Alfies and would go back myself, but order differently.

Have been to Alfies a couple of times in the last month with various groups and have enjoyed on each occasion. Cocktails are great value at only 5 euro each and the apres work menu offers even better value. I highly recommend the goat's cheese salad or fish cakes for starter while the bangers and mash or tower burger are always tasty mains. Service is always good too with friendly and efficient staff. Be warned though, this place gets full very quickly so make sure you get there early!!!

I have been to Alfie's many times, for casual drinks after work, who could say no to 5 euro cocktails, for a romantic evening meal, but until recently I had never tried their lunch time Lunchbox menu.I must say if its value for money and friendly service then there is no better place in the area! Great choice, delicious fresh food, and most importantly you walk out feeling satisfied! I will definitely be making a return visit!

Went for brunch and cocktails and had a nice, relaxing time. The food was pretty good but the service really stood out. Our waitress was attentive, professional and very competent. She had a keen eye and was very observant to the other patrons. I would recommend you give it a try, particularly with the value pricing they have in place now.

Myself and my partner been circling around south william street and looked at few menus around...Although I like places with long menus and this one had pretty short menu..We decided to go for it as they had 5 euro coctails..And I love cocktails...Anyway, first of all, the girl who was around was neither a waitress or floor help..As she had to go and get someone else to look after us most of the time we were there...She could not take orders, or find us a table..Nevertheless she seemed nice and friendly..It took forever to order drinks ..and then we could not decide on food....We made a choice with little push of the waiter..I did not think I would come back to this place at all after all the delays..But my god the food was not just great..It was out of this world...I could not finish my curry and had to take it home..only to enjoy it the next day...Prawn and chicken wings from the starters are a must try!

Great value for money with lunch menu. Perfect for some mid-shopping, or meet the girls kind of lunch. Go here all the time! Food is always amazing and staff are friendly and chatty and will always do anything they can to facilitate you and your group. Also a great little cocktail spot for liquid lunches!!

Alfies is amazing I loved it, starter, main & side for €15. The portions are very generous. I will definately be going back soon. I had the goats cheese salad, the mini tower burger & fries. It was scrumptous, the goats chesse was wrapped in filo pasty and the salad of rocket, cherry tomato, red onion was delicious. The burger even though its called a mini tower I actually couldnt finish it. I also had a mojito which for €5 you cant go wrong! The staff were very nice, atmoshere was great not too loud. Would definatley recommend this restaurant

Dined here with my boyfriend for the lunch last Sunday, I have to say this is nice place with very special atmosphere – excellent for date, friendly staff and reasonable food menu. We had goats cheese salad, chicken Kiev, fish cake and chips. Service was very quick, and the food decent, after that we had some drinks I had cosmopolitan and my boyfriend mijto, the cocktails cost there only 5 euro so we did not expect too much, but they were really good. I can highly recommend Alfies and we will come back soon.

I can't recommend Alfie's enough. There is a really nice cocktail bar where you can have a few drinks before you sit down for dinner and the waiters there are fun and helpful. The restaurant itself has a great atmosphere and always feels like it's buzzing because it's small. The food is fantastic, I thought the odd dish seemed a little pricey in comparison to the rest but the value overall was great. Can't wait to go back!

I visited Alfies on March 17th with 3 friends. How nice, after the hustle and bustle of St Patrick's day events on Dame Street, was it to step into this lovely little gem! The staff were so friendly and accommodating and despite the fact that we had not pre-booked and it was quite busy, we were seated immediately. We all opted for the Aprés work menu which is excellent value-€14.95 for a starter, main course and side, all served together, tapas style. I chose the garlic mushrooms, mini burger and fries. The mushrooms were fab, the portion very generous. I thoroughly enjoyed the burger, especially the homemade onion rings. My only fault would be there was a lack of sauce, perhaps a nice relish would be an addition worth considering and the fries were pretty basic skinny fries so nothing special there. Overall, however, for such a great price, this was forgiven. To top the night off we all opted for some lovely €5 cocktail (which were not only reasonable but thoroughly delicious) as we enjoyed the in-house magician's fabulous card tricks! Alfies is a great find, especially if looking for a fun group night out. I have already reccommended!

I went here with a friend on a wed evening after work and it was a lovely experience. we had the apres work menu which was nice - they explained all three choices are brought out together, we had cocktails while waiting for the food. the atmosphere was great, it was busy but not crowded and we didn't have to wait ages for the food. at no point during the night were they looking for the table so we were very relaxed. its a great location and i would def recommend Alfies, the food was great, the service was great and the cocktails are the cheapest I can see in town.

Won't be returning to Alfie's! Had lunch here. Wasn't very hungry so opted for 1 course - soup, instead of 3 course lunch menu for 10 e. Waiter wasn't impressed & informed me that soup from A la Carte menu is 7.50!!!! He was rude & arrogant after that & quite frankly I'm appalled that this is the quality of service in some Irish restaurants. What must tourists think? Soup was fine but not worth 7.50, Flat diet coke for 3 e resulted in 11 euro for very mediocre lunch. Much better lunch deals out there & much tastier food. It's a shame as the atmosphere & decor are great here. Waiter could have suggested the 3 course lunch menu for 10 e, possibly with the option of taking away the main course to have later, it still would have worked out cheaper than what I got. Whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth. No excuse for poor & arrogannt service in this day & age.

Dined here with two friends for the lunch special. 3 dishes for 10 euro. We each had the goats chesse salad which was delicious. For the other 2 tapas style dishes I had a baked potato and garlic mushrooms. The mushrooms were delicious if a little oily. 3 courses and a soft drink really cannot be argued with. Service was prompt and friendly and while the place was full it did not feel cramped or over crowded. Would definitely return

Alfies is one of Dublin's hidden gems. The Après work menu is really good value for money. I must say that the staff are very professional and friendly, and the food is amazing. I got the nachos to start and the Thai curry for my main. The portions are more than enough and are great value. I would highly recommend Alfies to anyone, looking for good quality service and food.

Where do I start? Very disappointed. Came here with my boyfriend for a late lunch. Went for the side, main and starter deal. Firstly, we both ordered cocktails. He had a woo woo which was nice. I got a strawberry daquiri. It was very very watery. Resembled a watery slushy. I politely informed the waitress and she offered to make another. Instead I got a woo woo but unfortunately it was awful. Far too much vodka which made it very bitter and therefore unable to drink it. The food then was very terrible. I had the burger which was very mediocre. I was expecting more than a burger and a piece of tomatoe. The burger also was pretty tastless. I had onion rings which were just nice. My partner had the fish cakes which were dry but other than that, tasted ok. He then had the pesto chicken pasta. The chicken was moist and flavoursome but the pasta was swimming in oil and he could not finish it as a result. He ordered the mash which was nothing special either and tasted very strongly of salt. As a result of our meal we decided to skip dessert. On the plus side even though there wasn't many people in the place, candles and low lighting gave the restaurant a nice feel. Service was good and we got our food quickly. My partner and I did notice that each time the staff walked by they glared out our plates to see what we had eaten which to be honest is quite off putting. Also, we were seated beside the kitchen so people kept walking out and banging the kitchen door. Very disappointing and we won't be returning unfortunately.

after being let down with our booking not too far from alfies we decided to pop in here after walking past so many days....and we are so glad we did..this place is a hidden gem beautiful decor and great staff we feared the food would let it all down but no...lots of it with great flavour and smashing value. i had the pil pil prawns ( to die for!!) and the seabass , while my partner had the fish cakes ( full of fish) and the lamb perfectly meduim. the portions are huge here and we had no room for dessert.they have a beautiful bar upstairs where we enjoy a magician!!! this place really has it all with a smiling staff to finish off a perfect night ... will 100% be returning to alfies

I rarely post negative reviews but this experience warrants one. I attended a girls night out here and I have to say I was never more disappointed. Our table was booked for 9 but when we arrived it wasn't ready and we had to wait 20 minutes. That was not the problem, not getting our food until 11, two hours after the original booking, was the problem. They assumed a group of girls would not care about having to wait, at least that was the attitude when we kindly asked what the delay was, the managers response was"we're busy". I have been here before and there was never a problem like this, in fact I recommended it as our venue! When the food did arrive it was over cooked and tasteless. I won't be returning here and I'll make sure the next time I recommend a restaurant to friends it won't be here! If you're looking for fun night out, I'd suggest you go anywhere else.

I love the cocktails here, their champagne mojito is unbelievable but this was the first time I'd had the food. We had the early bird and the service was cordial, informative and very prompt. The atmosphere was bubbly and conducive to a great night out. It's just all let down by the food. The burger I had was the worst I'd ever had in a restautant that wasn't a fast food chain. There was no garlic in the garlic mushrooms and the mushrooms themeselves had no flavour. The chips were quite good but I'd describe them as being more akin to wedges. My companion had the fish cakes which actually were quite nice and the chicken pesto which was tasty but the side of onion rings and the extra side of veg bordered on dire. The onion rings were rock solid and tasted of nothing and the veg was cooked to death. Maybe the a la carte menu has better quality but this wouldn't have me rushing back which is a shame as everything else is on the money. The staff are very attentive even when very busy and the place is so well located with a real buzz about it. It's just all let down by the food - cheap and cheerful can be done with a lot more cheer.

Went here for a romantic meal, the atmosphere was nice, although the first table they seated us at was a little too dark for eating a meal. We asked to be moved to the back where it had better lighting but we were told it was reserved even though when we called earlier they told us we didn't need a reservation. We did find somewhere else to sit where we could see each other and our food a bit better. The music they played was a very good selection. We enjoyed the little hors d'oeuvres we were given as a compliment of the chef soon after we were seated. The food was nice, we both had steak and were both too stuffed to order dessert. The cocktails were cheap (only €5) and there were a good few to choose from. I think I would go here again, for some cocktails and a meal.

Table was booked for 7pm. We arrived at Alfies at 6:30 and we were greated by their host who sat us at the bar while we waited for our table. Decor was fab. We had a drink at the bar then we were seated in the downstairs area. I had the gambas al pil pil to start with and it was delicious. The main course of Fillet Steak surf and turf was even nicer. If your a prawn lover then these are the dishes to go for. The entire party was extremely satisfied with food, service and value and the six of us will return.

Really good food, Great value for money. Serving staff atttentive. Did have to wait in the bar but that was due to no reservation. Only complaint was it was hard to hear with the noise of the restaurant and the music.

Really poor!!!!!! Would not return again! I was there for the early bird offfer of 15 pp for a 3 course meal. We arrived at 6pm & we were kept in the bar upstairs so long that the early bird had finished & the hostess that was on said she would not give us the early bird even though we were there 30-45 mins before it finished & she had kept us waiting because she thought we were waiting for another party - which we were not. We ended up buying 2 rounds of drinks while waiting for a table & then ended up only having a main course & leaving. Really not impressed by the service & the staff. Food was nice but overall impression was terrible. Would not be frequenting it again.

Went there Saturday last @ 3 oclock and was very disappointed with the food, as it was over priced also we had to order from the set menu and that was very expensive for a 3 course meal and no tea or coffees it was €45 per person plus service charge. The music was very loud and we had to ask for it to be turned down.

This restaurant is so expensive for what you get. We went here with a group on Saturday and were forced into ordering from a set menu, which turned out to be a turkey and ham canteen meal. Tasty but not worth the price and lack of choice. 45euro for a set menu (not including coffee) and a 12% service charge. This booking was for three o'clock in the afternoon so we didn't expect to pay 65euro in total. (including four bottles of wine for eight of us). Do not reccommend this restaurant

Went here with the girls for birthday celebration and took advantage of their good early bird offer. Enjoyed the novelty of getting starter and main course at the same time. I had the pate and yellow chicken curry, both of which were delicious. everyone was happy with their food and the staff were very nice. I would like to go back. Great place for a group to eat.

I went with a friend for the lunch special - relatively good value at €10 for starter, main, side and drink (all on one plate), although not as much food as it sounds as portion sizes are on the modest side. Still, more than sufficient for lunch & nice to have the variety all one plate. Food was good, not amazing, but tasty & well-cooked, service was pleasant but slow. Atmosphere was noisy (mostly due to the abundance of small children the day I went) but pleasant & they really make an effort with the xmas decorations!

I never would have thought to go here except I heard about a great lunch deal they did. So upon arriving we saw the deal written on the wall beside the front door, however since it was Sunday, the deal was adjusted....for the worse. Its no more expensive, and you dont get a free drink with it. Thats fair enough as it was probably to capture the weekday work lunch crowd and it was now Sunday. So, about this lunch deal. Its not even that clever. You get to pick one thing from each of three categories. Three courses you might think. Wrong. The silly thing about this concept is that there are only certain thinks from each category that match. (Eg; Curry from first category and rice from the second, or Pancakes from the first, and Strawberries/Cream from the second) It gives some impression of 3 courses, but it just aint that good. For lunch I had the Pate + Chicken Curry + Rice. It came all on 1 plate. Not very easy to handle like that. Portion size was fine. Not too big. Service was ok. Tables are way too close together. Its one thing to hear everything your neighbours are saying but another having to juggle your table to get out. If they really want everybody squezzed in, then turn up the music. Overall, food was decent, but the idea you are getting a great deal can just as easily feel like a rip off. I could possibly come back for the weekday value lunch, but I couldnt see myself coming back and paying for dinner here. I just dont see the value.

Hubby and I went here for our date night! For starters we had garlic bread, was very tasty but the one portion between us would have been enough. The hubby went for the usual steak, had no complaints. Myself, being a veggie and actually having options! Choose the roast vegetable skewers with a side of sauté mushrooms. All of which were delicious! The portions were very generous so much so we skipped desert and treated ourselves to one of their cocktails. Overall its great value, good food and yummy cocktails but since the tables are very close together is a little crowded for a ‘romantic’ date night but I would go back just maybe for a birthday celebration or girls night out.

Rude, Aggrogant management - Went there yesterday with the girls. Food is always nice and that is where it stops. never been greeted by a more sour pussed, arrogant person than the one that greeted us on arrival to the restaurant. customers are an inconvenience here so if you want sarky comments, talked to like your 12, cursed at behind your back & general rude attitude than this is a place for u. simple sunday brunch with the girls was wrecked by bad attitude by a jumped up manager, prancing around being narky to all 12 of his customers (8 of them were us). Its a shame cause the food is lovely so if i was the chef I would get out your wasted there. I will NEVER go back

A group of 6 of us went to Alfies for lunch recently. They have a lunch menu for €10 which includes a starter, main, side dish and drink. It all comes out together on one plate. I had the spinach soup, chicken bap, baked potatoes and a coke. Food was really nice and actually quite a lot for €10. Great value and I'll definitely be back. You can also get the €10 lunch menu take away! Fab idea for a working lunch!

Shocking food and service, especially management. No customer nous whatsoever, food was terrible returned as it was raw, (on table within 5 minutes of ordering) maintained it wasnt and did we want it back!! Never go near this place again, owner eventually reluctantly and rather disingenuously apologised three days later but said manager was in trianing and what did we want, things happen! Keep your money and go somewhere else with better food, service and atmosphere.

Tuesday evening, long day at work - friend and I attempted to go for a couple of glasses of wine and share a few starters as we were not hugely hungry but wanted to sit somewhere nice and relaxing. But we were told we had to sit at the bar if we were not going to order full meals from the a la carte menu. This is crazy service considering the place was pretty much empty and you would imagine they would have been delighted to make 50 quid. Wont be going back here after that service which is disappointing as I had previosuly quite liked this place.

I’ve only been to Alfies once but it’s definitely a place I would go back to. Myself and a friend had heard mixed reviews and so decided to check it out. We went for the apres work special, which is promoted between 4pm and 7pm. The idea is that you chose one starter, one main and one side, and it all comes together... At €14.95 its a pretty good deal for the city center. I ordered goats cheese from the starter menu, the chicken kiev from the mains and choose a salad as my side dish. Like advertised, it all came out together, beautifully presented on one dish. I thought the food was really tasty and was a wonderfully original way to present an early bird menu! We also had a carafe of wine which was only €15, again a good deal for the city. I actually really liked the food here and am keen to go back to try the a la carte menu.

Went here for lunch with my wife the other day and was very impressed. You order 3 dishes which all come at the same time. Each dish is small but all together they are very filling. I had the fish cakes, barbeque chicken salad and the baked potato. All very nice and the waitress and atmosphere were great. Looking forward to going back for evening dinner.

Went here with a few friends for Apres Work meal deal. Restaurant was busy so we sat upstairs where there was a nice atmosphere. The apres work deal is €14 for 3 courses, starters , main and a side dish with all come out on the one place in seperate bowls. Food was lovely and we were all stuffed. Only down side was we asked for water twice but never received and the carafe of wine was €14.95 and not €12. All is all enjoyed the meal and had a great evening will be returning.

Had a very good night in Alfies last Saturday! Have never been to this place before so was a little anxious as I was the one who invited a bunch of friends to give it a try. Service was superb from the moment we walked in trough the door till the moment we left! All staff extremely nice and helpful. Menu was ok, good variety, decent prices. One bit really worth mentioning is the new mohito cheescake!!!! Food on it's own would not make this place that attractive, but adding the beautiful interiors, nice staff - I'll be going back!

Visited Alfies on a Tuesday evening with my partner for the €15 early bird menu. I was so impressed and cannot wait to return again. Loved the decor - dark, boudoir-esque! When we arrived it was quite early (5.30pm) and were the only 2 there so a short while but by the time we were leaving it was really quite busy. The starter, main course and side arrive at the same time - in 3 deep bowls. At first I thought the portions looked small - but I struggled to finish in the end - the bowls are deceptively deep! What great value for €15 in the city centre. I got the goat's cheese starter, which had so much actual goats cheese in it - so often this starter is more salad than goat's cheese. I got the beef stirfry for my main, which was a little spicy for me but otherwise the noodles were gorgous and had plenty of meat. My fussy boyf was also impressed with his burer! I also got the brownie dessert - which I can honestly say was the nicest I have ever tasted - the brownie had nuts in it, it truly was something special - very well presented with icecream and fresh fruit also. One negative point was that our waitress came to take our order twice before we were actually ready to order - we had our menus still open which I thought meant we were not ready! I have recommended Alfies to all my friends and hope to be back myself very soon

went to alfies on Saturday night with the girls had a really lovely time. We were given a round table and able to stay at it all night it really added to the night for us. The food and service was excellant and good value too. I would recommend this for a nice meal to anyone. Just one comment in relation to the toliets there is only 1 for ladies and sometimes there can be a queue this is the only something small but just wanted to mention it. Again a great night had by all we will be back again maybe for our christmas night out!!!!

First impressions were good; downstairs was full so we went upstairs to the bar area for a drink. Cocktails are reasonably priced and delicious (we really liked the lollipop put in the daquiri straw) although the barman got confused with the prices and tried to charge us a euro extra later in the evening. We were there in time for the early bird and while I was unsure about the concept, I really thought it worked. The food is good and the portions aren't huge but just right, in my opinion. The downsides were a table near the stairs (which needs a sign as literally every table that got up to leave tried to go down it and had to be redirected back to the main stairs); having to ask for water four or five times before it came and one staff member who was a little pushy when it came to ordering drinks. We must have been asked five times if we were ready to order the wine. Then when it arrived (from a different staff member), the original waitress came over and proceeded to slag off her colleague! It may have been an attempt to be friendly but it left us all feeling a bit awkward. Having said that, I think these are just teething problems and I'll definitely be back as I loved the food, the concept and the decor in the bar area.

Cocktails are fantastic and food is good! Went here for our work christmas night out and I re-visited during the summer with friends. Set dinner menu is very reasonable for inner city dublin. Had meatballs for starter which was a very generous portion, the scallops for mains though was only ok. They were a little under done for my liking. I would definitley recommend the place for girly nights out or big partis. Great atmosphere

we tried this one night as I'd heard so many good things about the place and I have to admit the meal I got was excellent. The seats they gave us on a very busy Friday night were a bit open to the elements but the staf managed to find alternative seating upon our request to move.

I went here for lunch with a work colleague and had the lunch box meal, I was very happy with what arrived, it may look like a small portion of each of the three but combined provides a good filling lunch at a reasonable price, will definitely go back when i'm hungry beats paying 7 or 8 euro for a sandwich and drink elsewhere on the street.

Had dinner here last night with 2 friends we all went for the 3 course special for €26.95 pp. The food was excellent and the portion sizes were ample. I had the tomato and mozzarella cheese salad which came with a delish onion jam. For main I have the burger which was really tasty and for dessert I had the mojito cheese cake which was not great, too rich and in a tumbler glass that just did not work! The atmosphere was like a party, music was loud but good if your in a group. Our only complaint was that the place was freezing! All in all we had a lovely evening in Alfies and would recommend.

Was looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful to have lunch with some friends and decided on Alfie's €10 lunch deal. We were all impressed with the food and the service was good also. The appetiser, main course and side all served together is quite attractive and perfect for lunch time as the portions aren't too big. There was a nice buzz around the place too.

Popped in here quickly for lunch whilst browsing in town on Sunday afternoon and came accross the brunch menu in alfies which they have from 12-3pm, pick any 3 things off their menu, plus a soft drink for 12.95 which is great value. You would need to be careful what you choose thou as they all come on the one plate at the same time and I dont think strawberries and cream and cod would be the best combo. The big hits were the fishcakes and the steak sambo served with home fries, nachos were ok, bit too little nachos and too much cheese, and goats cheese salad was far too small with too many leaves. If I was returning Id definately get the fishcakes and steak sandwhich again. These are not full portions but 3 of them are definately enough for lunch.

10euro lunch - fairly small. I went here for lunch with a friend, we both went with the 10 euro lunch deal, where you get a starter, main and side. its hard to know if its good value as the portions are tiny, so you might just be better off ordering from the menu. I had the soup with soggy croutons, the burger, which was well cooked but small, and a side of fries. My friend had chicken kiev with spuds which she enjoyed. The service is good and there is a good buzz here usually at lunch time.

We had post work drinks and a meal in Alfies on a Thursday evening. The decor and atmosphere is very nice. It is a friendly and pleasant environment. We were seated right next to the kitchen but there was no noise as there is a large window segregating the kitchen from the restaurant. The waitress was exceptionally personable and clearly enjoyed her job. This was particularly nice to experience as too many times in Dublin restaurant have I encountered surly and bad tempered wait staff. We all had a starter, main with wine and a cocktail for dessert. The menu is concise, which makes it easier to choose. I had the garlic bread and chicken pasta. The portions are huge and filling. I didn't think the flavour was spectacular, but for the price it was fine. I would return again, maybe in a few months, the best selling point for this restaurant is their wonderful staff and fabulous decor. And the €5 cocktails. The food is ok.

Was disappointed with my trip to Alfies. 3 of us decided to go there for a cheap and cheerful night out but didn't make it in time for their early menu but decided to stay there anyway. Thought the a la carte and wine menu were pricey enough for the type of place it was. The fish cakes were nice. Thought the cocktails were disappointing although they are only €5 but I'd rather spend more and getting a better cocktail. Staff were friendly and efficient.

It was a pity when I came here to eat I wasn't very hungry at all as the food was so delicious and I couldn't even finish my main course. I had 2 lovely cocktails here also so perhaps these were partially to blame for my lack of hunger. I would like to eat here again.

I went her recenly with a friend of mine as I had read some really good reviews. However I was really diappointed. I had the fish cake to start which had absolutley no flavour at all. For the main dish I had prawns. Sorry to say this was the worst prawn dish I have ever had. The prawns were tiny and appeared to be from a tin! They were cooked in what should have been a creamy tomatoe sauce but tasted and looked like a bad tomatoe soup. I declined dessert as I could not face another bad course. The service was ok but I did mention to the waitress that my prawn dish was very bland and she smiled and said sorry, but that was all. Would go back for coctails or a glass of wine but not for food.

First time at Alfies - I met a friend for dinner after work. Were the only people in the restuarant for about half an hour which felt a bit strange. Had the apres work menu, which is such a good idea - starter, main and wine for 14 euro. I had goats cheese salad and thai curry - all tasty. My friend had fish cakes and a burger. All the food comes out together so no interruptions when having a good girly chat! This is a great place for a quick bite or for groups.

Had lunch here today, ordered from the €10 lunch menu which included starter, main and a drink. I ordered meatballs, hambuger and chips with a sparkling water. The food was not bad, unfortunately the sparking water was not included in the drinks so I was changed €12.50 in total. Nice decor, atmosphere friendly staff and reasonable menu.

Me and my partner ate here on Saturday night for the first time, as the reviews were so promising we said we ought to give it a try. I have to say i wasn't very impressed with the food. I had goats cheese salad which had three measly peppers, some goats cheese and the rest was full of lettus. My partner had the chicken Kievs and chips which he said was ok but not worth the hefty bill. The staff were very friendly, but forgot a few items we ordered. Don't think we will go back, mainly as i left feeling hungry and paid 71euro just for main meal, side orders and a bottle of wine.

Went here with a friend one evening, the food was really amazing but I thought over priced for the size of the portions. the €5 cocktails were really nice though, but still not too sure if I would go back here or not...

Went here for dinner with 2 friends to try out the apres work menu. You order a starter and main for €14.95 and can add a side for €3.00. I had fish cakes and beer battered cod both of which were really tasty. The fish cakes were crispy on the outside and unlike some places actually had a decent amount of fish in them! The cod was a surprisingly generous portion for the money and the batter was thin, light and crispy. We all ordered different sides so sampled the fries, salad and nachos all of which were very nice but ended up being left almost untouched as we were quite full from our main meals. We still managed to split a chocolate brownie however after getting a recommendation from the waitress. Served warm, slightly gooey in the middle and nice and light. Had hit the mid week slump so we also had 3 cocktails with our meal @ €5 each. Really like the service here, really friendly and efficient. Staff are really quick to notice when your glass is empty which can be dangerous if like me you have no willpower. Overall, great visit. Will definitely be back.

Ate here with some friends recently, we all went for the set menu for €14, along with some cocktails for €5. I have fish cakes and Thai curry. The portions weren't huge but sufficient and for the price it was really good value. Service was also very good on the night. A good place for a relaxed casual meal.

My boyfriend and i went here after work recently and i was very impressed with the food. The amount of food was perfect for us as we were having a quick bite before heading to the cinema. The service was extremely good, our carafe of wine came within 2 minutes of ordering and our food 5 minutes after that. The portions weren't massive but for the price we paid (€20 each incl wine) i can't complan and as there was so much flavour in all of our dishes i will be coming back again soon

Went for a few drinks after work, and had some nibbles along with cocktails and wine in the bar. Aall are reasonably enough priced, apart from the mini cheese board, which is very mini indeed! Also the pate wasnt great, but apart from that was cheap and cheerful!

The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. The Cocktails were delicious, great value at €5 each. My only flaw was that the food portions were very small. I got the scallops, €20 for 6 tiny scallops with a small scoop of mash, No veg. I was starved after. (I’m only a normal sized girl and I could easily have eaten 3 or 4 times that.) But saying that I would go again as the cocktails and atmosphere were fantastic.

Awful. Went for a girlie night, after reading some of the reviews here and was thoroughly disappointed. The service was really bad, we were hassled from the moment we sat down to order immediately. Cocktails are cheap, but still really not worth it, they didn't taste quite right at all. The food was okay but all pre-prepared. To end the evening we ordered Baileys coffees, which should be hard to mess up, but they did. It just all felt rushed and not worth it when there are so many better restaurants.

We were here for a birthday celebration on Friday evening. The €5 cocktails are excellent value and the decor and ambience are comfortable and welcoming. Lovely menu with plenty of variety. I had the nachos (lovely) followed by the scallops (unfortunately, my mashed potato was a little bit cold). All and all though, it was a great experience. The best part was the service. Our waitress was absolutely brilliant.

Absolutey loved this place! Great to start a girls night out in there. Fab cocktails (currenlty only €5) and the food was excellent. Menu is the right size - not too many dishes on offer, but a great selection of different meats and seafood. Thought it was great value. 3 of us paid €50 each for starter, main course, 2 cocktails each and 2 btl of wine for the table. Definitely will be back there!

Had a lovely evening with the hubby in Alfies on Saturday night. Strawberry daiquiris were seriously yummy and great value at only €5. We had the sampler patter to start, quite a mixture – nacho’s pate and deep fried camembert but generous. For the main I had the Scallops which were, unusually, served with mash potato, it was nice but not mind blowing. H’s duck was perfectly cooked and really tasty, I know what I’ll be ordering next time. For dessert we shared a gorgeous brownie. All in all the food was pretty good. The waitresses were nice although quite busy when we arrived so we were left standing for a while, and our first drink didn’t come until we were half way through our starter, from then on though service was quicker. We were there using a voucher I won from Menu pages, after two drinks each (cocktails for me, a nice red for him) and all the food mentioned we had to order another round to use up the €100 voucher so pretty good value. Great atmosphere too, would go back again with him, or with the girls. Thanks Menu Pages!

I was really really excited about coming to Alfies, and I came with a group of girls for a birthday. I can't say I'll be going back. Our waitress for the night was surly and rude (she completely ignored one of our cocktail orders and seemed absolutely disgusted when we pressed her for it), the food was a little bland (apart from the roast chicken which was amazing - i had serious food envy) and we weren't allowed to eat the birthday cake which we had bought for the birthday girl - instead, it was brought out, she blew out the candles and it was swiftly taken away because it 'posed a hazard'. We had to take it to the pub with us! Seriously stingy on that front - they were clearly not allowing anyone to have dessert that was not purchased in their establishment - so we were not impressed. Won't be going back in a hurry (although it was packed and the atmosphere was buzzing but i think that was more due to it being a friday night!)

Went here on a Saturday at 5pm with 6 others. Our table wasn't ready when we got there so were told to sit upstairs but had barely sat down when we were called down to our table. The Apres Work menu was what had brought us there as it was advertised as 2 courses for €14. I presumed this meant I could order starter/main or main/dessert for this price but that's not how it works. You order 1 thing from the starter, 1 from main and 1 from sides. All three are brought in separate bowls at same time. The portions are very small. One of our party went for the main menu instead of this cheaper option as was told that she would have to wait 45 minutes for pork chops to be cooked! All agreed that food was delicious but that you'd really need to go for main menu for normal portions. Waitresses seemed to only be part-timers as they dd not know the dishes as my meal was almost dumped in my lap with several fries dropping everywhere - as they were overdone I wasn't too unhappy. Dessert was really delicious so all in all a nice experience.

I have visited here on a number of occasions in different groups and i must say i have never been dissappointed. The garlic bread to start is amazing and the sea bass is melt in your mouth. The accompanying mash is also lovely. It is super creamy. I would have no hesitation in coming back here as the service is excellent and it is a really good atmosphere. There is a bar upstairs also which is lovely and cosy for pre dinner drinks. Its quite small but nice.

Decided to give Alfies a try after reading good reviews on Menupages. We were not disappointed. There were three of us and we all went for the early bird, which is great value. Lovely restaurant. Food was delicious, as was the carafes of wine. Staff were very friendly and service was excellent. Will definitely be back for more.

Came here fairly late on a Tuesday evening with my girlfriend, so was too late to catch the early bird menu. We decided to have a main course and a drink. The cocktails were nice and reasonable. However we were seated downstairs where at first I thought the music might be blaring, however as we got towards the back the volume dropped a good deal. The service was absolutely excellent and the waitress attentive. However the area we were seated in was quite dark, so while I can't say what the food looked like it did taste very good, and was a substantial portion. I would definitely come back, although probably in time to get the early bird next time.

Women haven... this place was full of wmen catching up, having cocktails and great laughs. It's a good concept and the cocktail menu is brilliant at €5 each. The apres work menu is good value but portions are small so think about your menu choice to make sure you're full by the end of the meal. I had cottage pie (super creamy mash), side salad and pate with melba toast was filling enough. Friend not so lucky, she had chicken noodle and portion was real small, ceasar salad and side salad, still hungry so she went with the apple crumble and we both admit it's the nicest crumble we have ever tasted - incredible with portion of custard and ice cream each on the side, nice touch. All desserts are €7 which is good for the apple crumble but for selection of ice cream is a bit rich! Overall very nice place and will return with girls only and if going for apres work menu just watch your choices...

Went for an early bird. You can have a side, starter and a main. It all comes together on a plate, nicely presented. The steak was superbe! Portions are small but you can't say much for the price and the great food. Cocktails for a fiver and my cosmopolitan came with a lolipop. It is a great place and you feel the owners want to give it a special edge and make it different which is great. Would definitely go back anytime

I came here after work with my friend. The service was absolutely brilliant. We felt like we were V.I.P.'S. The cocktails were deliciuos and very reasonable. The food was to die for. We opted for the Aprés Work menu which is the best value for money in any restaurant I have ever visited. I have organised to go back again this week with an even bigger crowd. This place is superb. Highly recommended.

Ok I reviewed Alfies in Jan when I went here with 3 of my girlfriends and yes I really liked it then and planned to go back with my hubby - which I did last Thurs - but I wasnt as impressed this time round. Firstly we were sitting downstairs - I prefer upstairs, but there was a group party. Anyways we went upstairs for cocktail first - both very nice and still priced at 5 euro which is really good value - but next door are now doing the same thing and there is more of an atmosphere there. We went downstairs for meal and service was good but very fast and the music was quiet upbeat too which makes me eat fast - and I prefer to chill a little - especially when I get a night out kid free. I had the pate to start which was nice, very creamy, but nice and good portion served with melba toast. My husband had the pil pil which is €12 but there were only a handful of prawns and the heads were not attached, just on top for show. The dish is served on wooden platter with 3 large slices of white bread but when you get down to it it is only about 5-6 prawns. I make this at home with raw tiger prawns from asian market so know how cheap it is to produce - they must have big mark-up on this. I had duck breast for main which was nice but was served on mash and all topped with orange sauce - I just wasnt sold on the mash with the orange sauce and the fact that the duck skin wasnt crisp - just wasnt what I had expected. My husband had seabass and again the portion size was quite small - lot of mash but not a lot of fish - AND the skin was not on it - c'mon what restaurant serves seabass without the crispy skin? for me this is the best bit. Made me wonder was it not cooked properly and then skin wrinkled up or was soggy and had to be taken off...hmmm? The Hazelnut brownie is still so so good with icecream and we had kalypso coffee and irish coffee to finish. The red wine we had too was nice. All in its nice but portion size not huge (lot of mash) - so I was not as pleased as 1st time!

Came across this restaurant while browsing MenuPages looking for somewhere new to eat The restaurant has a nice ambience, an informal and friendly atmosphere I liked being able to see into the kitchen and watch the cooks/chief at work The food was very tasty. We chose from the Après Work Menu €14 euro for 2 courses (Rice salad or potatoes are regarded as your third course) as other reviewers have mentioned there's one important thing to note about the Après Work Menu.....both courses, starter and mains are served at the same time, three separate dishes on a long white plate. An excellent idea for those in a hurry to the theater (or nightlife) We finished up with a shared chocolate dessert (yum yum!) €7 euro and two double espressos €3 euro each. Next visit when we have time to linger we will choose from the a la Carte menu and take our time to enjoy this nice friendly restaurant

A group of us went after work and had the 14 euro early bird menu. It was a bit strange that they serve all the food together even though it looks on the menu like two different courses. The food was amazingly tasty though. The fishcakes were delicious, especially the sauce and I also had thai yellow chicken curry that was full of flavour. Will definately go back and next time try the cocktails.

Can't fault this place at all! Went for the Apres Work menu. Starter and mains come out together on the one plate which was cool! The fish cakes were delicious! Perfect for some cheap eats and cocktails with the girls! Cocktails are gorgeous and SO reasonable! Would definitely recommend this place and will be back!

This place is a great find! The staff were so friendly and went out of their way to help us. Myself and a friend got the lunch deal with consisted of a started, main, side and soft drink for €10. DEAL! The dishes are served altogether in individual bowels on a long plate which was interesting but worked. Food was pretty good, my only complaints would be that the chips were a bit too chunky and the Caeser salad was quite fishy tasting. Otherwise, the whole experience was excellent. Beautiful decor, polite and helpful staff, good food and great value.

Went for lunch an got the €10 deal. a great amount of options to choose from and super tasty. Cocktails on €5 as well so happy days. I got fish cakes an chicken curry. very good. whats strange i thought was that they bring the whole meal together. Suited me as we only have an hour for lunch but if ya were wanting a leisurely lunch it might make you feel rushed. cant wait to go back.

I stopped in for the Sunday brunch with a friend yesterday and was amazing at the quality of the food for the prices on offer. There is an excellent choice of options; I opted for the French toast, the chicken kiev with mash potatoes, and home fries, all absolutely delicious. My friend had garlic bread, a bacon and egg sandwich and home fries, we both decided on pineapple juice and all this came to a grand total of €12 a head!! I honestly don’t know how they can have just great food, in a lovely restaurant with super staff at these prices, I know for definite I will be back though.... A lot more than once!!

I came here with a group of roughly 12 people. Honestly It's no great shakes! First off I found the staff a bit rude and snobby. The food was only average. I had the fish cakes to start. They were only ok. Home made chicken kiev for main course and this lacked in taste. I also had mash with my kiev. The mash was nice nothing to comment about. Because of the absolute lack of ..well....anything. I didn't bother ordering a dessert. After the dinner I just had no comment. simple as that. It was just like, eat it ...and whatever. It was just... like nothing. Should I have to elaborate on it it was just like an average home cooked dinner I guess. Over all because everything was ultimately only average and the prices were truely unjustifiable I will not return.

Finally have the opportunity to return to alfies and as we ate quite late, we had to opt for the a la carte menu. I had the duck a la orange and it was a tille overdone and bland. I was disappointed and have to say that I much prefer the apres work menu, so be sure to get there before 7 to avail of it!

Went here for the first time last week. Got the brunch box - fantastic value. Portions are small, but surprisingly filling. Will return, and will advise friends to try it also.

went for the early bird, really lovely and good value. My only negative would be that portions are a little on the small side

Came here with a friend for a bite to eat. And we both had the Brunch box menu. I had the fishcakes and they ere fab - would have loved them as a full meal - really tasty and not over powered with Potatoes as some fishcakes can be.. i had the BLT with chips which was also tasty and it was on real tasty poppy seed bread - which jst made it even tastier. and the and orange juice to drink.. All this for 12euros - a great bargain i thought. the restaurant itself was lovely i thought a very comfortable setting and we were not rushed at all, nor did we hahve a prior booking. i would def go back here - worht the visit..

Visited here the week before Christmas with two friends and we had a great night. My friends were half an hour late but despite being really busy we were not rushed at all when they did arrive. A good selection of cocktails are €5 which is great and they were delicious! We shared nacho's to start, plenty in one portion for three and we all had the fillet steak for main. All three were to be cooked differently and there was no problems. The atmosphere was great, only slight problem was that we were seated right beside the kitchen, I would request a table away from it when booking again as it is open and very noisy and busy but otherwise it was a great night.

I have been to Alfies on numerous occasions, and it has been excellent everytime. The atmosphere is brilliant, great place to go at the weekend for food and cocktails. The food was delicious, very tasty and not expensive. The staff were excellent and very friendly. I had the best cocktails, it was ideal for a girlie night out, as well as dinner for two! I would highly recommend that people go here, it is fun and you are not breaking the bank. It is excellent!

Went to Alfies with the girls 2 weeks ago on a Thurs night - we arrived quite late in the hopes of getting a table which was no problem at all. We had the most delish cocktails to start - and at only €5 I couldn't believe it! I must admit when I saw the price I thought they would be all fruit juice - but no, they were proper delicious cocktails. We shared starters and took the nachos and garlic bread which were to die for, I had the chicken kiev for mains and was so surprised to find that I got 2 whole homemade chicken kievs on my plate - enough to feed 2 people! They were delicious and served with creamy mashed potatoes. They girls had pasta and they too had massive portions and loved it! Great food, service, and cocktails - perfect for a girls night out!!!

Myself and the hubby ate here last night, having the 14 euro apres work menu. Really great idea, a starter, main course and side. There was plenty of choice and variety on this menu. We then had desert, chocolate brownie and a sticky toffee pudding which were both really good. We had some of their cocktails..margaritas, which i would highly recommend!!! Overall a great experience, with very friendly and efficient staff.

Eaten there twice and both times very pleasant experience. Great selection for all. Nachos for starter – nicely presented and very flavoursome. I had the goat’s cheese (parcels) salad with rocket, pine nuts, grapes –fresh produce and good portion. Cocktails very reasonable priced and nice. Plan to return again.

I went for the early bird 2 courses for €14. This was great value for what we got, however the food comes out at the same time which wa a bit strange. Am a huge fan of coctails and at €5 each its a steal. The location was great to go for a few drinks after in the good spots I usually would in town.

Excellent value early bird. Starter, main and a side for €14. Didnt realise all three dishes are served together but it actually works v well. Portions may look small but plenty of food. Good value wine and cockails. will definitely be back.

Went here after work with two friends for the early bird menu. The atmosphere was really nice and although we were late the staff were very accomodating. The early bird menu wasnt offered so you have to ask for it and all the courses come together. The starter was lovely but it was strange eating a main course which was the same size if not smaller than the starter. We ordered dessert from the regular menu and that was delicious. €5 cocktails and a glass of wine too and all for a total of €30.

Went to Alfies with 10 girlfriends recently for their early bird of 2 courses for €14. Was great fun, food really good. All courses come at the same time which is unusual but actually works really well. Cocktails on €5 each until 10pm so we all moved to the bar after dinner. Great atmosphere (full of groups of girls!!) and very friendly staff.

My friend and I went for the Apres Work dinner on a Thursday. We had our table booked for 6, and were the only ones there. However, within half an hour the place was packed, and with people waiting at the bar ready to be seated. Our food was fabulous for €14, and the cocktails are just amazing. This is my second time back at Alfies. I was also there for a birthday night out in December, and the food and service was again second to none. This restuarant is fast becoming one of my favourites in Dublin. The staff are so attentive but not intrusive. Food absolutely amazing. I will definately be back here many more times.

Good value, nice food. Have to agree with the other comments about the service though-a bit slow and had to wait ages to get the bill-if they sort this out they'll have a real gem-the staff are friendly and appear hard working-maybe it's just the organisation that needs a review. Will return again-nice atmosphere

We decided to try out the apres work menu here last night and we were not disappointed. I think they have changed the set up slightly from what I was reading here as now they tell you that everything is served together. The portion sizes are just right leaving enough room for desert or the €5 cocktails which I thought at €5 would be watered down but they werent. I got the hotpot and mash on the side which was so nice and creamy. The only problem I had was that the apres work menu is €14 for starter, main and side but the desert is €7! The staff were really friendly without being in your face. The atmosphere is great and the decor is really trendy but yet cosy. I will definately be coming back here.

Went here for a birthday dinner. The atmosphere was really nice; such a cosy, classy place! Service suffered a bit, possibly because it was a busy Friday night, but appetizers arrived before our drinks. Food was delicious, everyone was impressed, I had the roast chicken and it was amazing- the goats cheese salad was also fantastic. We brought a cake for the birthday girl but weren't allowed to eat it on the premises for some made up reason so that was pretty disappointing. Still, might return for the 10 euro lunch!

Came here for work Christmas lunch. Many had the lunch box option, which had great options! However, the portions were scaled down relative to the same option when ordered a la carte. Service was great, even though we stayed past the lunch-dinner divide! I will be back!

Went there with some friends for early bird before night out. Service and atmosphere were great, food was very nice but small portions, great for if you not too hungry (luckily I had a big lunch) and starters & mains both brought out together. Would recommend if wanted something light before a night out.

Went here for the first time with the old gang from college for our usual christmas get together/Session. I was really impressed with the layout of the restaurant. The girl who greeted us was not the friendliest but i at least we didn't have to wait to be seated. Our waitress was much more friendly but didn't have enough knowledge about the menu for my liking. She had to leave to find out what specials were on and what champagne they had etc. But thats a management fault there. I ordered the Gambas to start and the were Delicious. Half Roast Chicken for main course. A little bit too dry for my liking but cooked well it would be a great dish, service was a bit slow for drinks, i think they could have gotten a couple more bottles out of us, but we decided to move on because of it. All in all with a little bit more management training this could be a gem. I'll revist but not for a while.

I really enjoyed my meal in this restaurant. went for the evening early bird. was great value however i didnt like the way the starters and mains came together on the same plate. felt i had to rush through the starter incase my main course was gone cold so couldnt enjoy it properly. liked the few little touches in this restaurant! would go back again!

I had the lunch menu here a few times and the deal was amazing, unfortunately now one of your dishes in the choice has to be fries/potato etc and not another meat dish. It is still good value and the choice is good and food quality very fresh and tasty. The fish cakes are flavoursome as is the thai curry, the pasta, or any of the dishes I've tried for that matter! Portion size is definately enough for your three dishes that all come at once on a long plate. Service is good for a busy lunchtime and I can't really complain about the value. I have not had an evening meal here yet but would like to try it out.

I found the food tasty and plentiful. The service was quick and friendly. I found however that it was quite dark in the restaurant and also it was extremely loud. I had to shout a number of times in order to be heard. This was unsatisfactory. If I was to return I would be doing so on a quiet evening or for lunch.

After looking at other reviews and with a friend in our group having dined in Alfies - eight of us booked our annual Christmas get-together here for a Saturday evening . The table was booked weeks before the day in question. I was really looking forward to the visit and as agreed we turned up for our table at 5pm . However four of our group ran twenty minutes late due to a problem with their transport . Normally in a "good" restaurant this should not be an issue but unfortunately it was for the staff and owner of Alfies . From the moment we took our table right through to the end of the meal we were told constantly that our table was needed back by 7pm. Initially we thought nothing of this but when we were told for the fifth time in twenty minutes any enthusiasm we had for Alfies began to rapid diminish! All of our party were seated by twenty past five and we had placed all orders within two minutes. As we were ordering off the Christmas menu it was easy to pick quickly. Our starters arrived and were lovely but again as we were given the starters we were told that we had to be out by 7pm! I could not believe that we were told again for no reason at this point as we had put in our orders and the food was in front of us! The mains were served to us by six pm and we had desert and tea by six-thirty . Again at 6.45 we were “reminded” of the time and told we could take our tea and coffees into the bar if we wished. Having been made to feel so rushed and so unwanted throughout we said politely that if they gave us the bill we would leave. As they arrived with the bill two members of staff started taking our glasses away and loudly saying that they had to re-set the table quickly! This not-so-wonderful experience worked out at 480 euro (including drinks) as they added a ten percent service charge automatically even though this was only meant to happen with parties of ten or more and we were a group of just eight. Alfies left us disappointed and annoyed!

I would definately recommend this restaurant to a friend. I wanted to go someplace that I wouldn't be rushed out to get another sitting in, I wanted to be able to chat with my firend and sip on my wine and thats exactly what I got. The food was deliciouos, portions were a perfect size. Try the €5 cocktails.....you can't go wrong!

Came here for Saturday brunch with my boyfriend and we were both very happy with our food. We opted for the €12 Brunch menu and it was just the right size and very well presented. I had the mushroom soup and chicken kiev with fries. Delicious! Tasted like it was just freshly prepared with care! My boyfriend had the french toast and the rib eye steak with fries (which are very tasty!). For dinner the portion would be a little small but for lunch its just perfect. Including a glass of juice, I was delighted with the price. Alfie's is definitely a winner!

Went to Alfies for Sundary Brunch with a friend and had the lunch box special - a choice of three items with a complimentary fruit juice for 12 euro. I had the fishcakes, homemade burger and home fries, and although the fishcakes probably weren't the most suitable combination with the other two items (as a previous poster mentions, the three items are served together), each was lovely! Big portion of homefries, chunky and floury inside! The homemade burger was a perfect size, about 2/3 of a normal burger, served in a bun with salad. There were two fishcakes in the portion, served in a sauce I couldn't really identify, but which was probably a very mild tartre, and they were tasty. Desserts here are a hefty seven euro, the portions are large and one pavolova was more than enough between the two of us. Service was friendly, but our waiter was sometimes elusive and forgot us several times. He more than made up for that at the end though when he apologised unprompted, and gave us our pot of tea on the house. All in all a very nice experience, and I will be back!

This was my first visit here. Three of us had lunch here today, one of us had been here before, and recommended it as a good place to eat. We were very pleased with it. One had the Lunch Box option, one had Vegetarian and one had soup and then Chicken Curry. We were each fully satisfied with the meal. The waiting staff were excellent: they were prompt, attentive and helpful. The flavours of the food served fully met the high expectations raised by the excellent presentation.

This is a great place to come for a relaxed bite to eat with a few friends without sacravicing the quality of the food. I had the raspberry duck salad, the duck was lovely and rapberry vinaigrette is possibly one of the tastiest dressings I have ever had! We then split a selection of cheeses for dessert while we took advantage of their 5euro cocktail deals! Great little place!

I often go there for lunch and love the idea of the lunch box menu, and was never disappointed with my food, However it seems like they had reduced portions sizes last time I went, so I hope it was just because of a shortage of "pate". It's great value, and quite filling but it could disappoint very hungry stomachs.

Had dinner here on saturday night with a group of friends. We were all very happy with our food, and although it was busy, we were never left waiting. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, of any taste, because the menu has something for everyone. Food was well presented and the cheap cocktails went down a treat.

I've been here for the 'lunch box' menu on two Satrudays and I love it. Great value and choice. I had the yum goats cheese parcel on a bed of salad with dressing and grapes, the soup of the day, carrot and coriander which was lovely and thick and served with bread, and some chunky fries. The place was more than half full, a group of 4 of us sat outside and tho it was chilly there are outdoor heaters and blankets on all the chairs to keep you warm! Service was very fast, and I am looking forward to going back again. A choice of three dishes with a soft drink for €10 from a wide selection really is good value for money

Missed the early bird but cocktails were still €5 so I had a couple of them with my dinner. The menu had a number of choices I liked but I found the starters a little expensive. I had bangers and mash as did my friend. We were happy with the portions and taste. The only critisism I have was that I had to ask for water three times which I think is excessive.

I have eaten in here twice for lunch. The lunch special is great. You can choose a starter, main course, side dish and a drink for €10.I had the fish cakes, blt & chips one lunch and the fish cakes and chicken curry another time. The service is very quick. I like that they bring your starter and main course out on the same plate. Very quick and handy for lunch time when you have limited time to eat. Would recommend this place for lunch.

This place has a nice relaxed vibe and the dinning room is modren and comfy but could do with a bit more light. I ordered the Duck for mains witch was presented lovley, but was just way too chewy to enjoy, a large side of chips saved the day, my friend had tender lamb chops and almost licked the plate clean, we could'nt fault the deserts of warm apple crumble and a large plate of ice cream, coffees were good too, the place was buzy but we were not rushed and the staff were excellent, this is a good spot to meet up with friends before a night out.

I went with 5 friends for a meal last Friday evening, the food was as cheap as chips and of very good quality. The wine prices were also very reasonable....the ideal place to go for a good quality cheap light meal. Staff were very efficient and friendly, I will definitely revisit this restaurant.

We dropped into alfies after getting distracted by the afterwork menu while on our way to another restaurant. We had a nice table at the back away from everything but beside the kitchen which I thought would be distracting but wasn't at all actually. The staff were lovely and service great even though the restaurant was busy enough. Food was good although it was a bit offputting that the starter and main came on the same plate. The fish cake starter was fantastic but i was aware that my home made burger and fries were there and ate it a little too quickly. However for under 15 quid its great value and the 12euro carafe of wine did us fine...all in all we ate a nice meal for just over 20 euro each ...Really enjoyed it but felt we were out a little too early for my liking!

We went to Alfie's with another couple for a Sat night dinner. When we arrived we were ushered up to the bar for an apero. There were a selection of cocktails for €5 so no complaints from us. After 20 mins or so we were given our table which was right beside the bar which wouldn't have been an issue if it wasn't for the blaring dance music. I don't get that; surely some ambient lounge music would be more appropriate at 8pm. The food was ok. I can't say it was great but I can't find any specific faults with it. It's food witout flair. My OH had meatballs and he's convinced they came from a tin. My OH said he would never go back; it's just not his type of place. It really is a party restaurant so if you were organising a birthday dinner or a girls night out then this place would be ideal. If cocktails and loud music are high on your priorities then you would probably think it's great. However, if you want some good food on a Saturday night then this just isn't the place.

Alfie's benefits from a very good atmosphere, and the nachos here are possibly the best in Dublin. The €5 cocktails were excellent value, and the food in general was very good. The only disappointment was the ice cream cookie desert, which was very plain & not particularly tempting.

Had lunch here last week with my sister. We didn't want a big lunch or anything too expensive so Alfie's was just perfect. We managed to get a seat outside, which was really nice. Lunch was only EUR10 and you get to choose 3 different things from the menu and it also includes a soft drink. We both really enjoyed the food, staff were friendly and efficient, would definitely recommend it.

loved it! great service. really nice staff. got the early bird, some wine and cocktails. Very cheap, enjoyed every minute of it. They have little books in the middle of the table that is a great conversation starter. Would definately recommend it!

Ate here on a sunday afternoon. We ordered the €12 three course special, thinking we were in for a very good deal! It turned out to be just a portion of each course. Regardless, it was still very tasty and well presented. It did fill us but left plenty of room for a cheese board (which was very good). The staff were very friendly and the service was great. Will definitely be returning.

Went there yesterday for an evening meal, chose three items from the menu and a carafe of wine for 12 euros. They brought it out all at once (tapas style). Absolutely delicious........yam yam yam. Everything we ordered was finger licking :) The duck was especially exquisite. Couldn't believe the price we paid for the quality of food. Looking forward to giving alfies another visit and bringing along a good few friends .

Have a great lunch offer. You pick 3 items from menu and you get what they advertise as a small portion of each and soft drink for €10. individually they may be small portions but together really filling lunch of tasty food. Options vary from fish cakes, thai curry, spanish meatballs, burger, chicken wraps, fries , nachos etc so great choice for great value

Ate here with my family last week for a birthday. Alfies got the thumbs up from us all. We arrived and were met by a friendly greeter who asked did we want a drink in the bar first or to go to our table. we decided to try out the €5 cocktails (they're great) and then moved to our table when we were ready. great atmosphere with lots of work parties in. The food was really nice, presented well and lots of it. Service was good but dipped off towards the end as they seemed to be a bit busier but that's only a tiny complaint. Very good value - 5 starters, 5 mains, 6 cocktails, 1 pint, 1 bottle of wine and 3 coffees was €200. Would recommend for mid week dinner, parties or a girlie night out!

Very poor. Myself and a friend went to Alfies at 6:15pm on a Wednesday. We went for the pre-theatre menu: €12 and you choose a starter main course and side dish. The food all arrived together in tiny bowls, I had a tiny bowl of sald with a small piece of goat's cheese on top, a tiny salmon and leek skewer, the leek on the skewer was the hardest, greenest, toughest part of the leek and a tiny bowl of salad. We were still hungry when we finished and were trying to decide what to do when the waiter came over and said he needed the table back now. This was at 7pm and was the first time we were told they needed the table at a specific time. We were seated near the front of the restaurant and could barely hear ourselves over the noise of the barman liquidising ice for cocktails. We won't be back to Alfies.

Came here on a wednesday nite after work with a few friends. Was pleasantly surprised that the place was busy enough wiv a really good atmosphere. Got d early bird wich is quite original, since you can pick three options in a list of twenty, for only twelve euros. Got some seabass, remember the duck of the girlfriend was gorgeous. Overall it was a nice experience wiv good food, decent portions at a great price.

We were a group of ten and enjoyed the early bird menu, €12 for a combo of starter and mini mains served together. The food was good, chicken tagliatelle quite dry but the rest was fine. Everyone was happy with their meals. Cocktails at €5 went down a treat too. Would deffo go back.

I can only assume that the restauranteur is putting up reviews to give this place a high rating. It is cheaper than many places in town but not good value as it's just not good food. The starters were unimaginative, I had some meatballs which were fine but nothing to get excited about. There were 8 of us at dinner and we ordered a number of different dishes, all came on a bed of mash which to me just seems a bit lazy. I ordered seabass and the fish was completely overcooked, it was hard and generally tasteless. The deserts in fairness were tasty, lots of classics like choc fondant and sticky toffee pudding. The service all night was terrible. Just plonking down plate and drinks in front of you with no care or pleasantries. I found out the reason why, service was included for a table larger than 6. This just encourages bad service and is bad practice i think. The prices ARE reasonable but then again so are the prices in McDonalds. Don't go here.

after being to the comedy in the international last night,we were starving and since no one fancied (and we werent drunk enough) for the golden arches of maccy d's popped in here on the off chacen we get a table, given it was after 11.30pm! We were told by the really helpful and friendly waiter/maitre d that the kitchen was closing but that he could bring us a selection of starter dishes if we liked. Sounded perfect to us as no one knew what they wanted, we got the meatballs, nachos, prawns, garlic bread ,chicken goujons and fries. All i can say is wow, prawns were to die for my mouth is watering just thinkin of them, portions were large and there was plenty for the 4 of us to share, serivce was efficient and never once did we feel like we were being rushed. All in all a great experience and we all will definitely be back, great value too bill came in at under €60 not bad considering that included 2 glasses of wine and a soft drink! thanks Alfies we shall see yoou soon :D

I have had dinner many times here but today was the first day I came in for lunch...and I will definately be back! They had a menu where you can pick any three items for €10! I had salmon cakes, a burger and fries and was stuffed! The portions were smaller than your normal dinner portions - which is definately a good thing as i never would have been able to eat it all! There is a good atmosphere - though a little quieter than at dinner which is always amazing! I have only ever had amazing service here and i would recommend it to everyone!

This restaurant has left me a little baffled.A friendly welcome, followed by a chill out drink in the upstairs bar was a great start to my Saturday night out. Things soon changed when we were seated at a table right by the kitchen, which lacked atmosphere and was too noisy.Credit to the staff who accommodated my request for a new table efficiently and with minimal fuss. Now to the food.An extensive European menu offers something for everyone and I recommend the mixed platter for 2 to start including nachos, deep fried camembert, pate and garlic bread although priced at EURO18 it was on the expensive side. Lamb chops with mash for mains was wholesome and tender and just what I was looking for. A delicious apple crumble with ice-cream and custard was the perfect way to finish off this meal. One point - it seemed the staff were well trained in the art of upselling and I felt like I was being pushed to order more drinks throughout the evening. Is one bottle of wine between two not enough I ask? All in all Alfie's provides a stylish yet casual spot for a bite to eat to kickstart the weekend or take advantage of their value lunch priced at EURO10.

I tried Alfie's lunch menu, (pick 3 items to make up your lunch-box, soft drink included for €10), and was pleasantly surprised by how enjoyable it was. The staff were very friendly, without being overbearing, and the food was delivered promptly, which, for me, is a prerequisite for lunch time eating. I ordered the chicken wrap, greek salad and fish cakes, all of which were very tasty, especially the salad, and my companion ordered the burger, chips and BLT polishing it all off happily. The portions are good and sparkling water was included as the soft drink - I fully expected to have to pay extra as is often the norm. As a lunch time option, particularly if you want to eat your main meal of the day then, this is a cost-conscious and tasty choice.

I went for dinner in this restaurant twice over the last couple of months and both times it was a pleasant experience. The staff are friendly and the food is good. While I don't think this restaurant will completely blow you away, especially if you are looking for something different or unusual, it certainly will not disappoint. On my last visit i decided to try a pork dish which was a special that evening, pork isn't something i would usually go for but it was really nice and while we were settling our bill the manager was keen to find out what i thought of the dish and i felt she was genuinely interested in taking on board the opinions of the diners. I see in other reviews that the service at this restaurant is criticised for being overly friendly but i enjoyed their attention to detail in this regard. The decor is nice and my only real criticism is their selection of beers which i think they could improve on.

It was my first time to eat here and have to say the staff are really friendly and the service was excellent. The waitress recommended a really good wine and unlike a lot of restaurants it wasn't one of the most expensive one on the list. The main course was good but despite the vegetarian menu the choice is pretty standard and perhaps could be designed, that said I will be back.

I've been here on a number of occasions with large and small groups. The food has always been excellent - the duck is a pareticular favourite oif mine - and service has been first-rate too. The restaurant space is a bit narrow, which makes things feel slightly crowded, but the best use is made of the space. Haven't been upstairs. Excellent venue for a small to medium group.

Not sure about the comments about this place, they always seem to be by a "first timer", we were back there for Mother's Day and had a beautiful meal, we had the camembert, caesar salad, meatballs for starters, no compliants, food was out in a flash, had mains and than dessert and coffee accompanied by two bottles of wine, worked out very inexpensive, the staff were great, the guy who runs the place is extremely pleasant and even recognised that I had been there before, what more could you ask for. Lovely place to eat

I had lunch here with a friend last week after another friend recommended it. We both really enjoyed it. Yes, as the previous review said, the service may be a bit ott but I found it refreshing. I'm fed up with restaurants where you spend ages trying to catch someone's attention. The girl who showed us to our table was particularly friendly & on our way out showed us upstairs aswell. For starters we had the fishcakes with a spicy tartar sauce which I really enjoyed. My friend had the pate & there was plenty of it & it was very tasty. Both were reasonably priced at €8 & €7 respectively. For mains I had the chicken wrap which had loads of different types of veg through it, instead of just the usual red peppers & lettuce. The chips that came with it were like the ones my mother used to make and again good at €9. Friend had the mash & scallops. He would have preferred one or two more scallops but still enjoyed it. Along with a glass of Wolfblass, Pinot Grigio & 2 coffees the bill came to just over €55 which I thought was reasonable. We wer'nt rushed at all & it was nice to linger.

I highly do not recommend this restaurant. I eat at restaurants all over Dublin, it is part of my profession and I write reviews for small press but this one I wouldn't even bother putting in print. The food was so-so, not high quality as priced. The whole dining room was crazy, servers sweating and totally stressing out. The managers were completely fake and overly attentive. How many times do you have to be asked if everything is okay and do you need more wine. But they sure were quick to give you your food and check, to get the heck out of there. I do not like being rushed. Pass. Also, not to be overly picky, but the beer was badly poured, it's the little things like that that make a restaurant.

Came here after work last friday wiv 4 other workmates. It was 6 but the place was busy already, got some starters, i had the meatballs which were nice, dont remember for the others. Got the fish of the day as main wich was fresh tuna, perfectly cooked and lovely bearnaise sauce to go with. Was impressd as well by my neighbour's fillet steack, looked gorgeous. Next time... Didn't get any dessert but got a few drinks in the bar. Very nice atmosphere, and very chatty but not intrusive manager, really appreciated that.

Went to Alfies for dinner on Saturday night. Got there and were given a very warm welcome by all and any staff we passed on the way to our table which was a lovely start to the night. We were seated beside a hen party though, which was obviously pretty loud so would have preferred to have been seated further away. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly and our orders were taken quickly. Our starters came out fast enough too. I had the prawns in olive oil with bread on the side to dip (which is one of their specialities) and my husband had the crispy duck salad. I was very disappointed with the prawns – found them very bland, and I really didn’t want to dip the bread in the oil at all, as there wasn’t much taste to it. My husband said his salad was a bit on the tasteless side as well. For mains, I went for the goats cheese salad while he had the sea bass. Again, I found the salad to be pretty uninspiring, far too much greenery and too little of anything else. Instead of the odd choice of red grapes with it, some balsamic vinegar would have been welcome. He said the sea bass was lovely though. The mains came out too quickly, they’d only cleared away our starters and out they appeared, which I don’t like as you feel like they’re trying to rush you. I’d rather they’d given us 10-15 mins between the courses. We had a nice bottle of wine and some coffees. Bill came to €100 incl. tip which is ok for a Saturday night out. To be honest, the welcome was the best thing about our trip to Alfies – I didn’t rate the food although maybe I just made bad choices and I must admit our exit wasn’t greeted with the same friendliness that our arrival had! Finally, I would definitely agree that it's better for groups as well rather than couples.

Went here on a Saturday evening and the place was packed. Service was very friendly and there's a good atmosphere however I found it quite dark in there. Food was nice, had the mixed platter for starters which I would recommend. Overall an enjoyable experience but I think it's more suited to larger parties than a quiet dining experience.

Was there with friends from work on a Friday night. Had the nachos which were yummie for starters and the dish of the day which was cod and chips. The service was very good. The only complaint that I would have is that we were sitting at the table right infront of the opening to kitchen. As the fish was the special by the end of the evening the smells coming from the kitchen were almost unbearable so maybe ask not to be given that table.

Had lunch here last Friday with a small group from work. Great value lunch menu. Had soup & crusty bread and a house salad (which was very nice and not just lettuce & vinegar!) for 7.50. We also had a 10% discount flyer which made it even cheaper. Service was good and food came in a timely fashion andthe staff were very pleasant. Would highly recommend for a good value dining experience.

have been here a few times with the girls and each time has been better than the last .we went on sataurday night and we had some drinks in thr new bar which was very nice . our table was a little late but it being a rugby weekend we didnt mind as it was very busy. the host was excellent and made a joke about us being there al the time which was nice as it showed they cared. as usual the food was excellent althought the opnly thing we are unsure about is the wine list but we were it is being changed at the moment. very reasonable and a sign of things to come in dublin with the current economic climate but i think places like this offering good service and value for money will survive keep up the good work c u soon

My mate Damo organised a Christmas Party for a group of friends. There was about 14 of us in the end. It was 3 months ago so I wont be too detailed in my review. However being Christmas and being very full the place certainly had a buzz and there was a good energy from the staff. Serving such a large party the food was fine although there were a few mistakes with the order. Wine was good and overall the experience was worthwhile. Would like to sample Alfies again but on a regular night with just the other half.

called in for Sunday lunch. But decided to have al a cart. The waitress called out the specials and my fried went for the Minestrone soup which was first class lots of vegetabes and pasta real home made. I had the duck al a orange which came with pashed potato and a beautyful ornage sauce my fride had the roast stuffed chicked both large portions and very tasty. We both had dessert I had the profiterolls and my fried had the apple crumble and custard. Both main courses and desserts wher very well presented service was friendly and prompt all in all execellent. The whole experience was just terrible. First of all, the place looks like my grandparent's house. The decor is so inconsistent that it's funny. The food is not only over priced but not that good. It was the usual, overly heavy pasta and a cheeseburger that claims to be organic. I went on a Friday night and the staff was running around like chickens with no heads. They seemed to have no idea how to run a restaurant. I ordered one type of wine and was brought the wrong one but my server never returned so I just drank it but then I was charged for the more expensive wine, what a rip off! It's a shame because there are some great restaurants in the neighborhood. My advice, skip this one.

Love it, love the atmosphere, the food was fantastic and the service was great. It was quite when we were there but still a really nice atmosphere, there was a slight problem with the lighting before we ordered, but it was soon sorted out. Love that they have different books on the tables, handy when you are left on your own for a few minutes. The portions of food are huge, even a little to big perhaps. I had the goats cheese to start and it was massive, along with the half chicken and mash for mains, it was also huge but very, very tasty, my friend had the fish cakes to start which looked fab and the penne, with chicken and chorizo, myself or my friend did not really like the way the chicken was done, but the rest of the dish was really, really tasty. My friend got the crumble for dessert, it arrived in a bowl with two small bowls of ice cream and custard on a board. Unfortunately the server did not let her know that the bowl was hot, and hot it was, she burnt her finger, it was the only thing that we could really complain about and it was just unfortunate that she had not thought to warn her that it was hot. Overall I really liked it and will be going back again.

This was my first time in this place, and it most certainly will not be my last. 15 of us went from work for our Christmas dinner and all 15 were extremely happy with the staff, the food and the restaurant as a whole. I would highly recommend Alfies, fantastic choice of food. The bar was very handy for waiting on others to arrive and of course for an atfer dinner drink!!!

This place has everything - the decor is fab and although fancy, still informal and relaxed. The staff were great - there was 9 of us for our work xmas dinner and nobody could find a fault!!! They even kept the cocktail bar open for us for after our meal and the lovely barman added a special touch by making a non alcoholic cocktail for our lady-in-waiting!From start to finish we had a great experience and I'll definately be going back with the girls for another night out!!!The manager and hostess were very accomodating as most of our party were late but we were not rushed or under pressure, which really made a difference

6 of us girls went to Alfies for our Xmas night out. We were greeted with the option of having a pre drink upstairs which just set the night off. the unusual decor the friendly staff was a great start to our night. we werent the only ones their celebrating a Christmas night so it was very festive & a great buzz about the place. I could imagine it another time of year to be a quite, romantic place-which is great to think it has the potentional of two totally diff atmospheres. the staff were quick & efficent & the food was fab..we couldnt get over the prices SO SO reasonable! Def recommend this restaurant & being a vegetarian there was a good selection.

Well worth a visit. Went to alfies for a girls christmas night out and enjoyed the whole experience from start to finish. Our table was not ready when we arrived so we were shown to a lovely little bar upstairs and was disapointed when we were call to our table so soon. The resturant was lovely but a little dark. The food was very reasonably priced which i was surprised about cause of the location. Our meal was excellent, the staff were friendly, could not find fault with this place and cant wait to return.

I brought my wife here for our Wedding Anniversary last night and was very pleased with the whole dining experience at Alfies. It is classy without being too formal and the food and service was second to none. We had prawns to start in chilli and garlic oil which was served in generous proportions and delicious fishcakes to start. Duck and fish skewers were our mains, which were again served beautifully and finally Apple Crumble (offered as an alternative to apple tart by our host). We had coffee and Mojotos to finish all of which cost less than €100 including wine. The staff were very well trained and kept our glasses topped up all evening without being intrusive which is important on a special night out. The house red was South African and i would highly recommended it at a very reasonable €19 a bottle.I would recommend this restaurant for any occasion and it represents great value for money and the food is excellent. Looking forward to my next visit already and have my eye on a T-Bone. If the meat is as tasty and well cooked as the fish they must be exceptional !

3 of us ate here for lunch on Saturday. We hadn't booked and we were sat at a very comfortable table for 4. The manager sat us and gave us the menus while running through the specials and making recommendations. He was very pleasant. I ordered the fish special whcih was fish skewers and they came served on rocket salad and with a baked potato. It was absolutely delicious. The skewers were very filling and were both made up of two juicey prawns, 2 large chunks of salmon fillet and a scallop. REally very tastey. My other two companions went for a chicken and noodle salad and there was no problem requesting the chicken to come unbattered. There was also one side of baked potato ordered. We had a nice bottle of pinot grigio and were all very happy with the meal which cost approx €68. I enjoyed it so much that I booked a table for a couple of weeks time. Our waiter was very nice. Overall, extremely enjoyable experience.

Don't come here for a lingering, high quality experience. It was the second time I went to this restaurant. But I will never go back again!! The food was DISAPPOINTING – fish tasted like it came from the supermarket. Steak was completely inedible. It was so tough I didn't manage to chew through a single mouthful. I was there as someone's guest or I would have sent it back. The person opposite me also had the steak and also didn't eat it. But he complained about, the manager (what I found after, owner) was very rude, seemed like if u don’t like it go some place else !?. For this type of money one would expect a good quality and quantity of food but this did not deliver. Overall I would not recommend this restaurant and will not be returning.

I was in Alfies recently there was 4 of us and we all enjoyed our meal. We were given as much time as we liked to sit after our meal which I liked. I would agree that when they turn the lights down that maybe they do so a little too much! But I really enjoyed the food we have nachos to start between us all. I had the organic burger for mains which was delicious and tow of the guys had deserts which they enjoyed. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends.

I feel compelled to add my comments after reading, what I deem to be some very harsh reviews. I've been to Alfie's a few times now, the first time was in September for a meal with a few friends for a birthday on a Tuesday night. tThe service was prompt, courteous and above all warm. We ate our starters, I forget what everyone else had, but I do remember them all enjoying theirs, I had the Prawns which were bloody gorgeous!! Our Mains came at just the right time, and were all cooked to perfection commencing "musical tasting folks" round the table!! As we were leaving the Manager offered to give us a tour of the Upstairs bar, which was a really nice touch. I've been back a few times now, I never book, cos I love the excuse to go and sit in the lovely bar upstairs, and have a few cocktails! Overall I really love this place, the food is ace and the atmosphere is always buzzing yet with a friendly personal touch.

Enjoyed a great meal and night out with the girls at Alfies!! The service was swift and food was finger licking good and not to mention the host who was sooo efficient and friendly.. We had not booked a table but were told to have a drink upstairs in the cocktail bar and were promptly seated within 20mins... We shared the nachoes and meat balls to start and all decided to go with a choice of 4 steaks on the menu!!! OMG!!! sooo delightful!!! have to give alfies the 5 stars in preparing steak!!! it was cooked to perfection... And to top it all off was the hospitality of the owner of alfies who insisted on buying us a round of cosmos!!! thumbs up!!! what an unexpected enjoyable evening!!!!!

having read the reviews on this place tio say we were worried was an understatement. I had booked this place for our weekend in dublin as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. we arrived and were warmly greeted and our table was in the dining room upstairs the waitress was very nice and put us at ease very quickly.the food was excellent and came to the table a little to quick. but was very good and we felt it was good value for money in what is generally an overpriced city .with cocktails in the bar the bill was just over 100 euro with starts mains and desserts all in all a good night. Having read the reviews agian when we got home we were a little confused and the wife insisted we put our view forward so i guess my advise is to try it yourself .

Great Food. Not! What is going on with this restaurant. My girlfriend and I got table. There was a group of 10 people beside us who were really squashed in. It wasn't their fault but got a bit annoying when their only way out was for me to keep getting up. The food was typical reheat and serve - very, very dissapointing after reading the reviews. Service was OK but have to take marks off for the 'head waiter' - just plain obnoxious. Rushing about with a self important attitude and wouldn't listen to any comments never mind complaints. I think he felt he was too good for his customers. Does this guy think he is actually Alfie from the movie(see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alfie_(2004_film) - maybe his customers after realising that he is dysfunctional like Liz in the film will move on to better restaurants, leaving 'Alfie' with a life's lesson of his own.

VERY DISAPOINTING. Went last Friday for a girl’s Christmas get together (4 in total). We were escorted upstairs for a drink in the bar – it is so dark you couldn’t see a thing. It was squashed with no seats or way of getting to the bar. Restaurant should send you next door is their not ready. Ordered cocktails, lovely, but took 35 minutes. Was expecting restaurant food, but instead got POOR QUALITY BAR FOOD. As per a lot of the reviews the chips are like re-heats. Starters where ok, the main courses were very disappointing. Steak was raw after we requested med/well done. The place was so busy I think our dinners where getting mixed up. Didn’t stay for deserts as wanted to get out quicker. Waiter staffs were very nice and very apologetic about the food. Maybe once they get over all the teething problems, it would be worth looking at again. For the next couple of months I’ll hold off till they get settled.

We are two americans on vication in Ireland, and we where feeling very alone for thanksgiving. Our concierge in the hotel recommended Alfies as a nice restaurant. Our server was a really nice guy and recommended we try Turkey as it was out thanksgiveing. It turned out we had a wonderful nite the service, the hospitality and the great food made us feel very welcom in your wonderful country. I might add the restaurant was very busy but nothing seemed to be to much trouble. We thanked the concierge and he told us about this web site. We would just like to thank all the staff for making our thanksgiving so speciall.

I don't normally write reviews but I do read them when choosing where to eat. So I felt I had to write one for this restaurant considering I was surprised at some negative reviews which definitely didn't fit with my experience. I thought Alfies was one of the best restaurants I've been to in Dublin, from the service, to the food to the wine. The host, waiter and owner were extremely friendly and accommodating. Our experience was so positive we've booked our work Christmas dinner there! I've recommended this place to loads of people. The night we were there it was very busy, but still the service was amazing. Nor did I feel cramped at my table at all. At no stage did we ever feel rushed to move, even-though we were one of the first in at the start of the evening, and we definitely took our time!! We even ended up having a few drinks at the bar upstairs. The only reason I gave a 4.5 for food is that it would be great to have fried brie on the menu, hint, hint for the owner if he reads this :) Fun, cool bistro/restaurant, really enjoyable! I'll be back again!!

I was at Alfies last Sat nite with couple of friends. And I have to say we were very dissapointed!!! Food was just OK, we were expecting something more rather than BAR FOOD! The manager-owner was very rude when one of my friend complained about the raw fish!! I DON'T recommend this place, there is so many places in Dublin you can get a nice food and atmosphere also; and you will be treated the way customer should be!! NOT like the owner treated us like we didnt have a cheek to say anything bad about his food!! Does he write all those coments on his own??Cos it looks like to me.I wont go back there defo!!!!!

Dont normally put up reviews but was so impressed with the food and service at alfies last saterday night! For starters we shared the chicken pate and the prawns we both felt the need to lick the plate after, and could'nt wait for the main course to arrive!! I had the t-bone steak and my wife went for the sea bass fillet which she loved!! the steak was cooked to perfection and loved the home made fries... Well done to the team at Alfies!! Will definatly be back..

Had table for 12 people that was arranged with five chairs opposite long bench that could clearly not accomodate the remaining 7 people. When 2 of the party hung back waiting for this to be resolved, the owner asked them to move out of the way/take a seat and was very rude saying there was plenty of room and "if you don't like it, Leave". It was a bizarre reaction from owner of a new restaurant to paying guests.. Food OK, nothing special. One of the party had to send fish back as was raw. Another ordered burger & chips but chips looked like reheated oven chips and were not eaten and she had a piece of penne pasta on her plate despite fact nobody at the table had pasta in any of their dishes. 2 cappucino's sent back cold. Nice decor, bit of a buzz to the place and staff are, with the exception of the owner, very pleasant/efficient. It's a sad reflection on a place when the waiter, on hearing the owner's attitude to seating arrangment, had to apologise on behalf of his boss. OK value for money but that's not what a night out is about & have no interest in visiting Alfies again.

Uncooked fish was the main course, went on Saturday. Read the reviews, but was very disappointed. The place was so over packed, too many in such a small place. Booked a table for 2, but felt very squashed. Starter's were lovely, Mexican Nacho's and prawns. Main course very poor, home made burger, ok, but chips where re-heated and tasted like frozen oven chips. Husband ordered the Sea Bass, which looked great, but one piece was totally raw. Had to send it back to be cooked. The staff are lovely, but the manager could do with learning some of their social skills. Manager very abrupt and unwelcoming - couldn't be bothered to hear about the raw fish and overheard him later being very rude to a large group of people. Decor is lovely.

We went for an early dinner on Sunday. I had the Warm Goats Cheese Salad which was delicious and my friend had the Bangers And Mash which was so tasty. Just what the doctor ordered for a cold winters evening! The real draw here though is the amazing service. All of the staff were so friendly, good fun and attentive. Definitely going back.

I found the portions to be very large. Three of us had lunch. Meatballs, Duck Salad and Chicken skewers for starters. All were great. For mains we had Stir Fry, Scampi with chips and Duck ala Orange. We shared one dessert and all had coffee. The bill came to €40 a head which included wine and a tip.

Well well done the team @ Alfies. The food is great but the staff stand out by a mile so professional and full of personality. I have been there 4 times since it opened, once with a group of thirty..Your lovely manager is a treat and obviously really cares about the place shown by his enthusiastic nature. I wish you the very very best of luck and am looking forward to my next visit.

Alfie's had done some really tasty finger food for a party I had in spy bar, I had to go back and bring my mum and my sister. The food was really good, but the cocktails were to die for, not a big mojito fan but I was sold on their strawberry mojito- I'd recommend anyone to go even just for the cocktails alone. Food was tasty- but just a warning I found the portion size on the scampy quite small if it hadn't come with chips then it would only be good enough as a starter. Burger was really tasty and my sister was stuffed after the meatballs starter (they come with huge slices of bread). Overall it's a great place, I'm even going back for my xmas party!

Reading the review below, I thought I had written it!! We had the exact same experience. I had booked in advance & asked for a nice table, as it was a special catch up dinner with a good friend. When we arrived were were greeted by a lady with a clipboard asking if we were her for the party - we weren't - so immediately felt like losers!! We were sent upstairs then called back down to sit at another table. The food was fairly average, but would have been acceptable if we had not been constantly interupted to see if all was ok, yet left with our plates for about 20 mins after each course. We had ordered the house white & when we ordered a second bottle they discovered there was none left, pretty bad to be out of house wine at 8pm on a Saturday evening! The waiter didn't suggest what to do in this case so we went for a similar slightly more expensive bottle, which was fine although it would have been a nice gesture if they had charged the house wine price! But the icing on the cake was when a water finally appeared back to clear our dinner plates & was interupted by Mrs Clipboard & told to put the plates down & go & look after someone else, at this stage we were feeling very unloved!! Overall, potential to nice spot with very average & reasonably priced wine, but SERIOUSLY needs to improve the service.

Had a lovely dinner here on Thursday night. Our server was a very nice girl, warm and welcoming. The wine is good and the food is delicious, I had goat cheese salad. I highly recommend this cozy place. Excellent service!

Came here on a bank holiday Sunday for some food and a few drinks with friends. Ordered a bottle of wine which was warm. The starters were nice, i had soup which was alright and the nachos were good. One of my friends had the pasta for her main course which had far too much garlic in it, you could smell it on the other side of the restaurant. Service was far too attentive - I think we got asked about 4 times during our main course if everything was ok and we were then left for ages with plates in front of us and noone came to collect them. Would not rush back.

Have had lunch here twice. Goats cheese salad on both occasions which is excellent. Gorgeous chips too. Not overpriced and service comes with a smile. Good value in Dublin

I went here on Friday night with my dinner date, and I cannot say anything positive about the experience! We both waited to be seated, even though the place was empty, and I had a booking! Once seated we ordered wine, 2 glasses of pinot grigio, upon arrival I promptly sent them back due to the fact that the wine was served to us warm! I ordered 2 further glasses of wine, and asked that they be chilled. Our starters, well the caesar salad was smothered in dressing, and my pate was distinctly average. Following this, our main courses, what can I say, the duck that my date ordered was over cooked and I regret that my date, was not overly impressed, and my salmon, was once more, remarkable average! We were consistently asked by various waiting staff if everything was ok, to a point that it became annoying, and interrupting! The place was empty and they were bored, but we were not and the relentless interruptions were not required. We skipped dessert as if the consistency was to carry on, we were not too keen on it. We had a coffee and a tea, and moved to the champagne bar and ordered 2 alcohol free cocktails, which again, arrived and tasted like sugar and water and not much else! To say I will not be going back here in a hurry would be an understatement, such a shame as given the location, I feel the potential here is astounding if they could only put their fingers on the nail, and get the quality, and consistency of their food higher. Their wine list leaves a lot to be desired as it is a ' who's who of table wines and over rated chilean mass produced wines. The only positive I can take from my meal here was actually my company ,and not much else... Take note, this place could be good if they were to focus ! But in the meantime, I suggest you go elsewhere until the day comes that they get it right...

Went here last night as i'd read about it o nmenupages and i was not disappointed. Went early in the evening, 6ish but place still had a lovely atmosphere although it wasn't that busy. food was delightful, exept my boyf described his gambas al pil pil as 'just ok', he loved his steak. i had the chicken skewere to start; they could do with a squeeze of lemon to jazz them up a bit but were cooked to perfection and a big protion for a starter. For main course i had the atlantic salmon which was really nice. but dessert was definitely the best- apple crumble!!!! hadn't had it in years and i loved it! three courses plus a bottle of house pinot grigio was €97 which i thought very reasonable. service ws great also. i can't wait to go back and try the rest of the menu!

The only thing I regret about my visit to Alfies is that I didn't order the 16 Oz t-bone steak. A very nice spot, cosniderate and friendly staff and the novelty of a joke book at each table. All rounder.

Went here on Saturday and have to say loved everything about the place , food was lovely, portion size was more than average and price was very reasonable. Just fear that soon this place may be hard to get a table in, staff were lovely and no rushed feeling we were there for over 2 hrs. Really worth a try I have already booked to go back

My friend who booked this place was raving about it for ages, based on the comments from here. The reception when i arrived was great, a real selling factor for this place is the staff, they are great. Unfortunately, the food I ordered did not match the quality of the service. I ordered the fillet steak for main, which was pityfully small for the price, then i realised my friend who ordered the same got a decent sized portion. I pointed this out and they brought out what looked like the scrag end of some cut they had left over that was burnt on the outside and raw in the middle. I must say my mates really enjoyed their food and the experience, but I'm afraid anyone who serves food in that state will not get me to return. :-( Sorry Alfies!!

Lovely dining room with a warm atmosphere, nice chandeliers! Also like the books for guys n girls on the tables! Had darne of salmon for main and it was delicous, fresh and served on a great bed of mashed potato. The burger is equally good if not better, and more than enough. Nice home-made chips also. Service was excellent, it was a Mon night and there was only 1 waitress on duty even though the tables were busy. She was more than capable and we only noticed she was on her own at the end. Great value for money, well worth a visit.

I ate in Alfies last night with 2 friends; we arrived at 6pm famished after a long day (week) in the office. The number of options on the menu is small but great; personally I find 4 or 5 page menus too big! We ordered Nachos to start, one portion to share, they were delicious :) I think a portion for 1 person would be too much. For mains 2 ordered the organic burger and 1 the Fillet Steak, all mains were very well received. We also had a bottle of one of the house recommended wines. We opted not to have deserts or coffee and the bill came to €82. Overall the meal and service were great, very attentive staff but not too in your face. As the new kid on the block Alfies will give some of the more established restaurants a run for their money. Will definitely recommend and will be back.

I ate here with a friend early on a Saturday evening (about 5.30). We both had starters, chicken skewers and gambas al pil pil. My chicken was very good – succulent and quite a substantial dish, the accompanying dip was spicy and was thoroughly enjoyed. My friend said the prawns were good and they were served with chunky bread which she said she wouldn’t eat and then did! We both had steak for mains – one with fries one with baked potato. They were cooked as we had requested, tasty and most importantly piping hot. My fries were tasty and also piping hot and we were both pleasantly full afterwards but still went on to order dessert! I had the hot chocolate brownie – which wasn’t hot or even warm and my friend had pavlova – not pavlova as we would have expected – it was soft like cheesecake with the fruit on the side but tasty. The staff were very friendly and my friend pointed out that she had seen an advert in one of the free morning papers and the manager was quick to assure us that he would give us the 10% discount advertised even though we didn’t have the voucher with us. All in all with a bottle of sauvingnon blanc the bill was @ €88 – and well worth it.

Had such a terrible night here last Friday. The place itself is quite nice the décor and atmosphere is fine although the tables are a little close together. The restaurant was not busy when we arrived so our order was taken promptly, after 20 minutes no food had arrived and we were about to enquire as to where our food was when another waitress arrived at our table and asked us to repeat our order because our original order had been lost, by this time the tables around us were all being served even though they had been seated after us. When the starter of fish cakes arrived it was tasty although we were extremely hungry at this stage and half a bottle of wine had been polished off while we waited. Not a very good start but we thought hey things happen, then we got the main course they had given us a portion of mushrooms and extra veg by way of apology for the delay which we did not want. My chicken was just OK but my husbands duck was so overcooked he could not eat it, we were really disappointed by now and just wanted to leave. The manager came over to apologise to my husband and offered to take 10% off the bill which was a nice gesture. Sadly he did not convey this offer to the rest of the staff and we ended up paying full price for a disaster of a meal, we did not notice the error until we were outside because we were in such a hurry to get out of the place. There are some serious staff issues that need to be addressed at this restaurant right from the waiting staff who fuss about walking up and down doing nothing to the chef who overcooks food even when the customer has been left waiting to be fed to the manager who does not let his staff know what is going on. We will not be returning here and cannot recommend this restaurant.

Ate here for the first time today with some work colleagues, unfortunately we were under time pressure which took away from the experience a little. Nonetheless, really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was somewhat lacking, as the restaurant was fairly empty. The food however, did not disappoint - it was delicious. Had the prawns pil pil with a side salad and chips all of which were delicious, and presented nicely. Great for lunch on a budget, and very tasty!

Ate there on recommendation from work colleagues. 3 friends of mine had just returned from 2 years travelling so a catch up was needed. Starters were totally finger licking but have to say main course was a let down. I had the bangers and mash and really they were only okay. One of my friends had the monkfish and it was just swimming in a butter oil. However another friend had the penne and said it was delightful. The worst part was the constant barrage from the staff asking was everything okay.....I really only need to be asked once not 6 times during the main course!!!!!!. Also felt like they were rushing us out, no sooner had you the last fork full of food in your mouth then they were clearing your plate. All in all it's an okay place and not bad value but won't be running back for more.......

Got to Alfie's early--6pm, so the ambience was lacking. DEFINITELY go after dark and ABSOLUTELY sit upstairs where the ambiance is at its best. The staff was very attentive and informed--great place to eat if you like good service. For the meal, the house reds are fantastic for the money. Be sure have a glass with your meal. The duck was a bit overcooked but has great flavour and the mash is outstanding, yet a bit too heavy to serve with such a fatty meat. Overall we found the meal very, very overfilling and heavy, but that could have been our fault for our choices (partner had bangers and mash). Lovely cappucino to finish. Good date venue!

Top class, not before time a city centre eatery has come along with a menu which is not only great value for money but caters for any taste. Staff are top notch (and look great) the chef coming to the table was a nice touch. The restaurant has a nice relaxed setting and upstairs is so chilled for an after dinner tipple. Over all i would recommend alfies for a romantic meal for two or for a no reason buddies gathering

I've been there a few time since they opened. And all i can say is that it was a enjoyable experience every time. I regularly go there for lunch with my workmates, that's quick, portions are consistent and the quality is there. Club sandwich is lovely, so is the chicken stir fry. Moreover i went for dinner last friday with a few friends, and i discovered that night time is very nice over there. We started in the brand new cocktail bar upstairs with mojitos and cosmos, and then the bang and the mash, salmons, roast chicken and pastas. All was perfect. The best place to start a night out!!!

I had there was a new restaurant on Sth William st and visited there on Wednesday night with two friends. The premises is very nice, very friendly and above-all, very relaxing. The three of us had shared two bottles of one some of the house white [can't remember which one] which was fine and had a decent price. I had the prawns to start with which were served with some garlic oil and herbs and these were done very well. The other two both had the nachos which they enjoyed. For mains, I had the beef[rare] and it was nice that this was cooked to order. Served with onions and fries, this satisfied my appetite. The other two ordered pasta and the bangers and mash and were particularly happy with the pasta. No room for dessert! The restaurant is a must go again-very friendly and it has an open kitchen.

Went to Alfies based on the reviews on MenuPages - what a disappointment! The kitchen is open to the restaurant, this usually is a good thing however after leaving Alfies my clothes smelt like I had just cooked dinner myself. Yuck! The early bird menu has very poor choice. We went for the home made burger - expected a lot better than what we got. I am definitely not going back!

i ate in alfies last sataurday night with my wifeand a couple of friends and it was a fantastic evening. i started with the pate which was smmoth and served with toast and a smalll salad . the pil pil (prawns) which my wife ordered were excellent both in taste and in presentation and i will be having that the next time.the other starters were chicken skewers excellent and a dish called chinese parcels which were unusual but very tasty with a beautiful sweet sauce . for the main event we had the duck excellent , the seafood skewers , the baked salmon and i had the monkfish which was the best i have had in a long time. i had the cookies and cream for dessert but was just able to fit it in as the portions are very big. we had to bottles of wine and the ladies both had cocktails which were served with lollipops which they thought was a great touch. a beautiful restaurant with a class wine and cocktail bar upstairs for after dinner drinks , freindly service and all at aresonable price. All in all we would recommend alfies to anyone looking for a good location excellent food and service at a resonable price

This place has only been open a few weeks now but I have had the pleasure of dining here twice in that short time. Firstly went in on last Saturday with a group of 5 lads all looking for a good meal to start the night off and this is what we got , not one complaint from any of us. Ordered a mixture of Chicken Skewers and Nachos for starters, I stuck with the nachos and the beef the chili was excellent quality. 5 different main courses were ordered can’t review the rest of the guys but my steak was cooked as per requested and with a hearty portion of fries included in the price, no complaints there. For a Saturday around 6 O’clock there was a buzzing atmosphere, mixture of shoppers, tourists and few groups like us starting off the night. Even though most tables seemed to be full the staff coped very well with it and we never left waiting for anything. Good point was the owner came over and had a chat with all the guys asking them about their meal and what they think of the place. Nice guy and wish him all the success he deserves with this place. 2nd visit was the following Thursday evening after a bit of late night shopping went in around 9 pm just for a quick snack. I went for the Gambas al pil pil and the wife had chicken liver pate. Prawns were very juicy and sauce spicy enough to keep me happy. Also tasted some of the pate which came with a nice red onion topping, pate had nice texture and topping complimented it well. Manager recognized me from last visit and thanked me for coming back so soon , nice to see he remembered me. Will definitely be going back soon.. Great food at good prices and in a good location.

I went here for a work outing two weeks ago. The food was lovely. I had the medallions of beef and they were very tender. The wine was fab. The atmosphere wasn't the best, there was no music in the background and there was no mirror in the upstairs ladies toilet or toilet roll for that matter. Upon enquiring however we found out it was only their second night open so we overlooked those small things. The decor of the restaurant is lovely. V. modern. The staff were very friendly and didn't even mind when we all started singing at the tops of our lungs:) I would definitely go here again.
