this is a great comfort food place. homely food served in nice atmosphere. had fish and chips, fish very fresh and chips exactly as they should be. for some reason they no longer serve mushy peas and now give out garden peas?? mushy peas are traditional fare with fish and chips so i personally dont think they should be changing something like that. garden peas and deep fried fish and chips just dont work as well. got few bones in fish but i understand these things can happen. great spot for food would not hesitate to recommend or bring anyone here.

I live near here and had the chance to use a voucher for a full irish recently on a lazy sunday morning. Ive only eaten here a couple of times but the service and food make this place pretty memorable. Full irish served with toast and tea did not disappoint. It even included a couple of fried potatoes which i live!. Ive been here for dinner before and the chips are excellent. I'll definitely be returning!!

Comfort food does not get any better than this! Sat down to a huge plateful of chipper chips with loads of vinegar & a lovely cheeseburger, loads of ketchup, and fried onions! The boyfriend had the fish and chips - lovely spot!

I used to use the chipper here a lot when I worked in the area years ago. Today as I was going to a play in the Gate I decided to eat here.I found the service to be both smiling and efficient. From a food point of view both myself and my dining companion both really enjoyed our dining experience here.I had a vegetable soup starter whilst my companion chose garlic mushrooms. For mains I had a batterburger, chips and curry sauce piping hot and most tasty. My companion had lamb chops with a selection of vegetables and fresh mashed potatoes. To finish I chose a sherry trifle my companion admitting defeat. The atmosphere was very nice and I love their fish tanks. A lot of regular customers were noted here a further testimony to this establishments high quality food, great service and popularity. Ideally located in the city centre this eatery is suitable for shoppers, theatre fans or indeed anyone who finds themselves in town wanting to try some great food.

Recently had lunch in the kingfisher, always a good atmosphere & we were promptly bought to our seats. Group of three, so we ordered two starters & three mains. The starters were homemade leek & potatoes soup which was bubbling with favor & Greek salad which judging by my friend polished plate, tasty. Starter dishes were shifty cleared as our main dishes arrived, three fresh cods!!Grilled, poached & deep fried all served with home cut chips, salad & simple wonderful. Highly recommend this simple cooking, done superbly.

Went for lunch here on Sunday. Had the kingfisher sandwich- delicious! Bacon, mayo lettuce, tomato AND chicken. Very tasty indeed and big pot of tea to wash it all down. Traditional hearty food. Plenty of kids there though so if you're looking for somewhere quite, maybe not the best bet. Perfect for a quick bite.

This place is perfect for 'mammy's cooking' kind of meal. Usually have a fry up at the weekends here. Always a good crowd in the place. The staff are very good, do what they are suppose to really. Overall, lovely spot for a quick bite to eat.

we were recommended by a friend to try their fish & chips here.arrived yesterday about 7.45 pm, were looking forward to our fresh cod fish & chips but they were all sold out! instead we got whiting, plaice & grill trout. Food were good with decent portion. the interior deco & the atmosphere was a bit let down. for the similar or just slightly higher price,we have dined at a much nicer restaurant with similar quality of food. It's ok for a quick meal but wouldn't be a place for special occasions.

Best fish and chips in Dublin. It's hard to find a a place that does a great fish and chips but I think I've found it. Some of the menu items are cheap but taste great; good selection too. I'd definitely go back as it's affordable and the food is top class.

Came here with my husband, had a steak that came with everything for a very decent price. It was quiet tasty and the service was prompt. I like this place also for the location, right next to my favourite bookstore "chapters". I will come back again for some lunch.

I've been here a few times for lunch, it's got a decent, varied menu and you get a good-sized meal for the price. The club sandwich is a bit disappointing, all lettuce and cucumber with very little meat, but I've also had omelettes, burgers, chicken fillets and chips here and they've all been very tasty.

This place has it all, quality food nice staff and its affordable. Although it doesnt look great from the outside, it is very cosy. Myself and a friend went here last week for a quick lunch we had Lasange and Chips - which are proper chipper chips. All for €8.50 I've also had the fish and its so fresh.

Love this place, its a classic greasy spoon type cafe. The breakfasts here are fabulous, and the fish and chips is another signature dish here. I had the cod and chips this time, and the missus had a tuna salad sandwich. Both were delicious and well priced. This place is a 'banker', you cant miss, as long as you aren't looking for fine dining.

My first time eating here and I really enjoyed the food. The BLTs were crammed full and tasty, the garlic mushrooms and onion rings were really nice, as were the chips. The staff were lovely, and for a Dublin restaurant it was so cheap. Definitely worth a re-visit.

Perfect for when you're absolutely starving after work or dying at the weekends! I love this restaurant- had forgotten about it until I passed by one day and got delicious waft of chips coming from the take away. Usually have all day breakfast here - unbelievable and great value for money. Had roast breast of chicken one evening and could not get through it! Have never had a problem with the service - waiters/resses are generally very friendly and efficient. We all have bad days at work and it's a pity if one of those affected anyone who left a review. Strongly recommend visiting Kingfisher. You definitely won't be left hungry anyway!

Mixed experience. Ate here with my son in late afternoon. The place was packed and had a great atmosphere - like a greasy spoon with a wine licence. Lots of couples and pairs of couples having fish and chips or steak and chips with wine or beer. I ordered haddock and chips and as my son is really into his food, I asked whether the fish on the children's menu was fresh cod the same as the adult's fish but just a smaller portion (I hate kid's menus that serve junk food and the rest of the kids menu was of the chicken nugget variety). I made a point of being very specific about this, and the waitress said yes, it was the same (and somewhat irritably: "I already told you that we only serve fresh fish"). Anyway when we got our fish and chips mine was really silky and tasted fresh but his was a rectangular shape and didn't taste at all like fresh fish to me - horrible solid chewy texture. This was annoying as I was out for a treat in town with him and would have forked out for the adult's portion if I had thought the kid's one wasn't going to be fresh fish. On the plus side, the hand-cut chips were lovely, and the kid's meal was a fair size and good value - coming with a drink and jelly and ice-cream for around a fiver. Anyway, I asked the waitress again about the fish when we were paying and I thought she had a really stroppy attitude about it as if we were trying to pull a fast one, but the chef behind the counter did admit that the kid's fish wasn't the same - it's "a portion" or something. The manager overheard and to his credit he knocked a fiver off the bill. However, the stroppy attitude of the waitress did somewhat spoil the whole experience.

We ate here the other day and I definitely wouldn't go back. I went to the gents and was waiting outside their temporary toilet when one of the waiters came out and didn't even wash his hands. No excuse for this in any restaurant. Absolutely disgusted. I think in general you can tell a lot about a place from the state of their toilets and the hygiene standards that their own staff observe. Thankfully he didnt serve us but went about serving other people in the restaurant. When the food eventually came I wasn't impressed with the cod and chips. The chips in fairness were proper home cut chips and were very nice but the cod wasn't good at all. The service was very good and the lady who served us was very friendly and nice. I couldn't fault the service or the chips but the rest was rubbish.

I'm a big fan of this place on my lunch for work especially when I'm feeling a little worse for wear from the previous night. Last week I had the salad burger and chips. The chips are proper handcut chips and cooked to perfection. The burger was nice and sloppy with everything falling all over the place just the way I like it. It always has a nice busy but homely atmosphere of a city centre cafe. The staff are very friendly and the food fab!

My favourite place in the world! I used to forget just how special this place was but yesterday, realised just how much I've missed it. The food is fab & made with love! The two brothers running it are easy on the eye too which is always a good thing!! Highly reccommended - fish & chips! The best in Dublin by far.

Absolutely delicious!! A gem of a restaurant-such a varied menu that it's impossible not to please everyone & with the bustle & traffic through Kingfisher the food is always the freshest. Seafood to die for & chips worth talking about (no processed junk here). My favourite haunt in the whole of our fair city. Love the staff too – somehow feels like coming home!!

A nice place to eat I must. Tasty food but it does feel that one or two less tables would make more room so at least you could have the option to swing a cat (if so inclined). Service not the best as my waiter did not listen, brought the wrong drinks, wrong burger and no knife or fork. However when that was sorted, the food was mighty tasty for the price. Go now and enjoy.

A dying breed! It is very hard to find another restaurant like the kingfisher in Dublin. A traditional family one, I have gone there for the last twenty years, and would hope to go there for the next twenty. The food is great, wholesome and excellent value. I'm told that two brothers are runnning the business now, like the brothers of Bang Cafe on the south side except in the Kingfisher the clientele maybe a little less pretensious and the food alot better value! Highly recommended!

Diamonds r forever & its true for the kingfisher.. I come here when I’m in town, yes the place is usually always busy, which is a great thing, you know your food is going to be fresh and its cooked to order. It has a great atmosphere and judging by the surroundings, hasn't lost its roots.. Really old pictures of Dublin.. I love the fish dishes & the grilled sea bass is perfect, their steaks & deluxe burgers r fantastic.. Very good value & lovely homemade fries.. The Brothers who own the place, all I can say is watch your girlfriends, handsome lads I thought were only on the south side.

"I used to come to this restaurant as a child and obviously it has changed greatly over the last 20 years with all the additions built on. I think the takeout part of it is still great but if you eat in the restaurant the food is a rip-off. Its way overpriced and I have been disappointed in what I was served the last two visits I have been. I had the Smoked Cod with Chips both times and the portions were not very big and the batter on the fish was overcooked so much so that I ended up leaving most of it. The chips were good. The tables and chairs are too close together, I know they have done this obviously to fit more people in, but it feels like you are rushed through your meal as if you are on a conveyor belt with the staff always in too much of a hurry, who once they take your order barely come near you for you to ask for anything else. You would think for the price of everything they would treat the customers with a bit more dignity and respect than they do. I don't think I will be eating in there again. One very disappointed Dubliner with a landmark of Dublin..

This restaurant is part of the fabric of Dublin and next to burdocks serves the best fish and chips in Dublin. The food is very fresh and plentiful. The potatoes are grown on the owner’s own farm. It is great value for money and the staff are very pleasant and nice.

I wasn't impressed by this restaurant at all. I normally enjoy visiting greasy spoons, but this was a big let down. The food was barely edible. In fact, the onion rings weren't even edible and it's not like me to leave those behind! The interior of the restaurant looks shabby, which made a bad meal even less enjoyable. I certainly won't be going back..

The Kingfisher is a great, old fashioned fish and chips restaurant. The food is always good, with generous portions. And the staff are great, very fast and efficient. Well worth checking out as the prices are second to none.

Find this a really nice place if you don't fancy a big meal. Their fish and chips are second to none. It’s always packed which must say something good about it. And with a large selection to choose from you will never go hungry...
