Visiting Swai a week before Christmas, I was surprised to find it empty although as it was 9.15, there might have been people there earlier. A couple arrived after a while so we were not on our own the whole time. However, the food was really good and the views are great from there so I would recommend it. We had the house combination for the starter which was a nice way to try a few of the starters. For mains we had beef rendang, clay pot duck and the saute king prawns. The beef and prawns were excellent. The duck was fine but suffered by comparison with the other mains. Even though it was quiet, I would recommend it for the excellent food, friendly service and great river views.

Arrived here on a Saturday night, hoping for a lively atmosphere but I was quite disappointed. Entering the restaurant at 8 o clock, I was expecting quite a busy crowd, only to see a couple being the only other people in the restaurant. However as the night progressed a few more people began to arrive along with a big group of people which the atmosphere slightly more lively. The food at Swai was quite nice. I dined with my parents and this turned out to be very good value for money. Swai had an excellent couples set menu which was great value for menu. So while my parents went for the 3 course couples set menu I opted for just a main course and we shared the starters. We ordered 2 portions of the chicken satay and were not disappointed. For the mains, I opted for the clay pot chicken, while my parents opted for the roast duck and chicken stir-fry... All mains were thoroughly enjoyed and portions were more than satisfactory. Desert arrived and we were more that full but it would have been rude not to sample some of the banana pancake with ice-cream and we were right. All in all, the food was great at Swai but lacking atmosphere.

I was really looking forward to this as I read other reviews but it was very disappointing. I felt the curry came out of a jar. The food was very disappointing. One visit was enough for me.

I have eaten a few times for lunch in here both when they offered the buffet and now the set 3 courses. 3 course for €10-€12.50 is great value. Food is decent quality, wasnt blown away by it, but was left full. Atmosphere can be a bit lacking sometimes, depending on the time you arrive, as sometimes it can be very quiet. Overall its definitely worth a try.

We went here for something to eat on the way to the O2 and I have to say I was slightly disappointed. For a Saturday evening, it wasn't even that busy, I like to walk in to a place the is hussle and bussle but it was very quite. The service was good, which I would expect considering we where one of the few people there. The food was lovely though, I had the pan fried scallops for starters. I've never had these before and they where yummy, really nice and for mains I had stir-fried vegetables. I devoured these, they where amazing. It wasn't that pricey, I think the wine brought the price of the bill up but I didn't mind paying because the food was that good. I think I was expecting a bit more with this cos I heard so many good things about it but I think I went at the wrong time. Maybe the IFSC doesn't be that busy over the weekend. So would go back for another try but will go back for lunch during the week.

Had lunch here. Three courses for €12.50. Starters were prawns wrapped in wonton/filo pastry with a sweet chilli dipping sauce, which were very nice. My companion had chicken satay, accompanied by an amazing peanut sauce that we finished off by itself! Mains were Rendang beef served with boiled rice, which was delicious. Not too spicy, but with great flavours coming through. My companion had crispy chicken wih boiled rice, again very good flavours, and good portion sizes. We finished the meal off with profiteroles, a nice "sweet temptation," as it's put on the menu. We were comfortably full after all this. And for €12.50 it's a fantastic bargain. Service was friendly and attentive, atmosphere was slightly lacking, but this was due to so few other tables being occupied. Will definitely come back in the evening to try the dinner menu.

Pleasant and relaxing atmosphere, authentic Malaysian food, hard to come by in HongKong dominated Chinese food cuisine in Dublin. Surprised at the choice offered in menu, especially the claypot rice, a delicacy in central Malaysia, and now enjoying a big hit comeback among foodie in Singapore. Those adventurous Dubliners should try it, ask for the genuine authetic preparation, you will stand out as the one possessing the asian palate. I will definitely visit again, and I hope the standard doesn't drop along the way as do most HongKong restaurant. Bravo

SWAI has turned into one of my favorite restaurants here in Dublin. The Food is absolutely fantastic and the service is even better! Very attentive, friendly and accomodating. They have a Dinner Special for €20 that includes a starter, main dish and a desert as well as a glass of wine, which is an incredible value considering the quality of food and the service. I can't recommend this place enough, it's definitely worth the trip to the IFSC!

Ate in Swai last month, had a really nice, tasty meal. Went for the set menu and the choices were decent enough for what you pay, good tasty food, Chicken Satay starter was excellent and there was plenty of it, the Roti Canai was delicious also. The main courses are huge, couldn't finish them there was that much in them. You get a glass of wine as part of the set menu and a dessert, all for €20 which is brilliant value, especially considering the portion sizes. Lovely setting but was a bit quiet so atmosphere suffered. All in all if you like Malay food or Asian food you should definitely give Swai a go, I'll certainly be going back.

Four of us visited here and were very impressed with it. We asked for a riverside table and got one easily. I was surprised how queit the place was. I had the beef rendang and while I don't normally like lemongrass this dish was just fantastic. Everyone elses meal was great. Of particular note was how inexpensive it was, even when you factor in several beers. The wait staff were attentive without being intrusive. I'm very surprised that this isn't busier all the time. Great value and great food.

Visited with friends to celebrate birthday. Asked for and was seated at riverside table. Restaurant quiet but nice, relaxed atmosphere with staff friendly and helpful. Food, overall, the best Malaysian we have tasted in Ireland since Logan's in Blackrock closed it doors in the mid 90s. Value incredible, 5 starters, 5 nain course, a bottle of wine, a couple of cokes, a couple of beers and 5 good Malaysian coffees:- 152 euro. Will definitely be back ! Only complaints, no Laksa & no Malay desserts but the waiter, promised if we mentioned when next booking, it would be arranged. The Deep fried Won Tons and the Chicken Curry were both a bit bland but everything else was well worth the visit. What more can you ask for !

Prime location for a restaurant.Just along the docklands. This swanky glass restaurant piqued my interest. Was surprised to see it crowded at lunch today.Since they do buffets during lunch for a mere e12.50 only it was bursting to the seams.Taking a glimpse, the buffet spread-had a decent selection of dishes from satay, prawn, beef, crackers amongst the choices. Being slightly more discerning with our choice we chose mains from the a la carte section.Helpful though rather strange-the waiter told us not to order any fish dishes as they were time consuming and that we had to bear in mind that the kitchen was busy dishing out the buffet. So my mate chose the nasi lemak while I went for the char koay teow.Truth be told-they were prawns and sizeable succulent scallops in my plate. However I felt it was rather bland in taste. My friend did enjoy tucking into her nasi lemak hence did justice by finishing most of it.Service was prompt and good.I have no qualms on that.I must add on the special collection of kitsch ornaments of malaysia they had on display like the petronas twin towers.Good memories of home though.

I've been wanting to try Swai for ages as I love Malaysian food and you can't really get it here. Four of us had Dinner on Saturday and we all loved it, everything was completely delicious. The service was second to none and they were happy to make substitutions; for instance the beef rendang with the worlds biggest prawns instead - HIGHLY recommended! The view is gorgeous (book a table on the river) and it's undeservedly very quiet, which is great for some and I guess not so good for others. We all loved it - Yum!

Stumbled into this snazzy little restaurant by chance after having a few beers with my husband at the Octoberfest in the IFSC, and was very pleasantly surprised! We went for the set meal, which was a starter (bit on the small side - but it is a starter in fairness), main course (decent size and both were really tasty) and tea or coffee or vanilla ice cream to finish - all for 20 euro!!!! And to top it all off, we had already ordered a bottle of wine, and when we told the really sweet waitress that we were going for the set meal, she said, "Oh that comes with a complimentary glass of wine, so I'll bring them when you've finished the bottle!" Happy Days! We couldn't believe such value for money, 20 EURO A HEAD, for a three course meal AND a glass of wine! All overlooking possibly the best view of the liffey at night you're going to get! Brilliant - can't wait to go back to check out the all you can eat buffett!

Dined at Swai for a celebratory meal. I couldn't fault the place for atmosphere: low light with river views. We were the only people in the place bar three but it didn't seem to matter-if more people had been there it wouldn't have had that brilliant ambiance! The service was attentive and the food was excellent! However, it seemed as if it(the food!) was missing something, though I can't put my finger on it! The crispy pancakes with ren dang sauce were gorgeous and the sea bass I had was perfect! Everyone else was happy enough too. Only fault I'd have is that none of the meals were served together, the first two came and it was 5 mins before the next batch etc. All in all, I'd recommend Swai but I don't know if I'd go back!

Good authentic Malaysian food. But very surprise with the lack of the atmosphere on a Friday night. The restaurant is located in a very beautiful setting overlooking the river and yet there were lack of customers on a Friday night. I will definitely go back when I am craving for the 'home style cuisine'.

Their lunch menu is well worth the price. Lunch buffet is for 12.50euro and lunch set (starter, main course & desert) is for 10.00. Being a Malaysian and fussy about food, their satay is as authentic as the real deal. I love it!

Outstanding lunchtime value! I've had 2 lunchtime visits here and , both times, everyone with me agreed that this is a place they'd come back to. The 3 course for 10 (Mon-Wed) was particularly exceptional, the service polite and attentive and the portion size perfect. The location, on the waterfront, is also perfect, with convenient car parking just around the corner. Can't vouch for the evening menu, because it's got to be worth a go.

First of all I have to say how beautiful the setting of this restaurant is - facing right out onto the waterfront. It is really unique. Inside it is lovely and cosy with a huge chandelier being the focal point when you walk in. The waiters are also very friendly and attentive. Now to the food - i'm disappointed to say it is only average and not half as good as I thought it would be. Such a pity because as I said it is a really lovely setting. If they could lift the quality of their food a little bit I would go back again

The food here is only okay. The menu is diverse and appealing but the food that's presented is anything but. It reminds me of take-away food put on a plate. They do a lunch menu for €10, and the quality is still only so-so. But I'd suggest trying this before going there for dinner.

Being from Malaysia I went to Swai with my usual mix of hope and trepidation and I have to say it almost lived up to my expectations of Malaysian food. The Tau foo starter was lovely as was the roti canai. My girlfriend had the crispy duck and oyster sauce and is still talking about how delicious it was. I was a little let down by the nasi lemak (rice and sambal) as the sambal was more of a sweet gravy and it was lacking the key fish ingredient. This aside it was very tasty and the Malaysian coffee afterwards was fantastic.Overall a very good restaurant, with very good food (albeit not traditional). Will definitely be going back there for some other dishes.

Went on a sunny spring evening and the view across the river was unusually pleasant - even saw a man rowing past in a currach, hopefully not on his way to Inismor! Starters were fine - tofu with a sweet peanut dipping sauce and roti chanai - a mini version of this popular street snack. Mains were vege noodles in a hotpot, hot (temperature wise) and quite tasty - veg mainly peppers and onions with straw mushrooms and snowpeas. Nice thick brown sauce. Similar veg in the seafood chow kweay - a rather bland stirfried combination of flat noodles, lots of onions and some various bits of rather bland seafood. Chili sauce on hand though. Wine a decent Oz sauv/reisling 24 euro was enthusiastically poured by the waitress, who also promptly whisked away any used dishes, glasses &c. Quiet in the rest. only a few people in. Not bad but wouldn't rush back - missing the zinginess of real Malaysian cooking, probably as proper fresh ingredients hard to get.

went for dinner on the way down to a gig in the O2, we were walking past and decided to give it a go, looking back i dont know why, they place was EMPTY, the only other people there were the staff none the less the food was actually very tasty once it arrived, it took a little too long considering we were the only people there, I would recommend this restuarant but maybe go on a night that is busier so there's more atmosphere.

went for dinner here last nite at 8 o clock. The place was emtpy. Got the combo starter for 3 ppl...took very long for a starter to arrive to the table. it was nice nothing special. the waiting staff were more interested in supplying us with drinks rather than food, which would be great if getting drunk was your goal but ours wasnt. for mains i got the clay chicken pot..it was nice.. loads of chicken, a lot of brown rice i couldnt finish and not much veg. It didnt have much taste but seemed quite healthy. The other 2 i was with order the sea food plates..again they found it nice but nothing to write home about. The waiting staff we helpful...our waitress was lovely, i could have took her home with she was so cute. :) overall nice.... wouldnt go back again

Never having eaten Malaysian before, I didn't know what you expect. I absolutely loved it!!! We had a starter combination of scollops, wontons, pancakes with curry and chicken satay and I honestly couldn't say which was best, they were all so good. Then my friend had the Clay pot Duck and I had the Clay pot Fillet Beef. Both tasted divine and very natural, no artificial flavours. Wine was well priced (for a good restaurant) and the only fly in the ointment was the dessert..... The offered the shop bought cheap desserts which I felt left a really beautiful meal down at the end. Great experience overall!!!!!!!!

Well worth going to. It was a bit quiet, but gviven its location its can be expected from time to time. The food was really good and well presented, and the service was of a good standard (ie knowing when they are needed, efficiently doing what needs to be done, and leaving people to enjoy themselves after that). Will definitely be back there again.

Sorry, but no. The food is inconsistent, the menu is confusing, dishes are uninspired and just... well, just not all that nice. I would love to see this place succeed, but in an out-of-the-way location such as this you have to offer more than just a stunning view to attract a regular clientele.

Stopped in here for the buffet lunch and was impressed by the quality of fare especially at the price. Would recommend this for lunch with a fussy eater as you get to pick and choose what you have to eat. The staff were attentive even though we were not ordering off the set menu and our water glasses were continously topped up.

Everything was good. Only one thing I want to comment. This restaurant couldn't handle big group. It was such a disaster during taking order and serving food. May be the waiter should learn how to take order and serving food in systematic way.

I saw this restaurant in the newspapers a few week ago and thought I'd give it a taste as it's only newly open & I've never tried Malaysian food. Now Malaysian food is my favourite. As my husband & I first walked in we saw this beautiful chandelier, the river side view was absolutely outstanding. It was a Sunday night and it was packed, the only problem was we had to wait a few minutes till a table was free, maybe perhaps we should of booked. I loved that there was a true Dub waiter. She looked Malaysian but when she spoke, you just knew. I can't eat certain foods which was great as she could translate it to the chefs. I normally have a lot of trouble with waiter's of foreign nationality that don't understand me. I was recommended Hokkien Clay Pot Noodles. The mixed seafood in it was delicious. 10/10 a must. I'll definitely be back soon.
