Unfortunate. The food here used to be really really good, but I haven't been in a while and when I went this week I was disappointed at how oily my curry was. It was really very very oily..too much oil and this ruined the food. Great the way the meat is served on the bone and the sauce ingredients taste great, only without all the oil! Please reduce the amount of oil you are using and I shall return. The staff are nice and the place is fine, prices are right..but the oil, no. There are alot other Indian food restaurants out there that pride themselves on some dishes cooked without any oil, and they taste great.

Dropped in for Lunch and it was great, "Curry in a hurry" and a can for a tenner or so. I was given the option of mild/med/spicy and on/off bone. Curry was tasty, fresh and a huge portion. Highly recomended.

Came here for a spot of dinner before a night on the tiles. Curry is very nice and lots of choices for very little money. Starters and sides are very large portions. You could easily have a couple of side dishes instead of a main if you fancied something a bit different. This place is really close to where I live and very handy for shopping so I am sure I will be back very soon. Recommended.

The Restuarant was buzzing on the friday night. Luckily we booked a table in advance using Menupages. Located on Mary Street. Very convenient after shopping in Henry St. We had the chicken curry off the bone with a can of cola deal. We got a popadom for €1 (turns out it was for 4 popadoms) which was a great deal. We also got alunan naan bread which is very nice for only €2 extra. The chicken curry off the bone & rice was very easy on the stomach. Certainly a curry with a difference. Staff were very friendly & courteous. Nice atmosphere & truly curry in a hurry (within 10 mins). Would definitely recommend.

Wonderful food. When my friends suggested here for dinner I was a little put off by the fact they don't sell alcohol. The Very very tasty food more than makes up for that. The service is good there were six of us and we were well looked after. Huge portions, one rice can fill two people. All I can say is hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

Was looking for somewhere cheap and cheerful for a group of 6 of us and this totally hit the spot. Since I've been here a few times, I know their portion sizes so between 6 of us, we got 4 mains and a couple of sides, with rice and naan bread. We had the spicy chicken tikka, the spicy channa masala, the mutter paneer, aloo paneer and the Bhindi Bhaji. It was all so delicious

Late night dinner with two friends. My first, yet not last, visit. Food is excellent. A lot of good choices. The prices are very recession-friendly and the portions generous. It doesn't look like much from the outside, though don't let that fool you. We all had a Mango Lassi each to drink with the meal, which suited the food very well (no alcohol served, which I think is a good idea as the food is the centrepiece). The service is friendly, chatty and prompt. I'll definitely come back for more.

I haven't been to this place for ages. But that day we are hungry and decided to have dinner here.I ordered a chicken biryani. The rice taste good.I love the gravy/soup that come with Biryani. It taste like a lentils soups but really nice which is surprised me as I don't like lentils soup. However, the Biryani didn't come with any salad.Just rice, chicken&gravy. We have to pay extra for the salad. Overall experience is good.

Try the masala dosa - yummers! also the channa puri and the lovely mango lassi! Cheap and cheerful. The service is prompt and friendly. Food is prepared fresh and is full of flavor. Authentic Indian food and there is even south Indian which I think is a first for Ireland. Great value for money.

Have been considering going to Madina for a few months. Catering clearly for the subcontinent, the menu was nice. Very good location, near Jervis shopping centre. I'm sure the rent must be sky-high, but thankfully, they've kept their prices quite reasonable. A major plus in this place is for vegetarians - all vegetarian items are separately prepared, and the meat and vegetarian areas and their utensils are kept separate. Food was freshly prepared, and tasty. I love Puris... and relished the puris here... although a tad oily. Service was decent. Waitress was quite efficient and pleasant. Chandeliers here are unusual, and beautiful. Would definitely go back soon with friends.

A few things to improve but, overall, a good find for great value, tasty Indian fare. My partner and I visited the restaurant on a weekday. We shared a paneer veg curry, bhindi bhaji and channa masala sides, rice and naan. For €26 (incl soft drinks), we had an enormous amount of tasty food to enjoy. This place is very reminiscent of restaurants in Kolkata and I think it's offers a great selection of choices to try. The service, while perfectly acceptable, could have been more attentive. While not as bad as described below, the front of house could have been a bit tidier. All in all, though, I enjoyed the food and thought it represented excellent value for money. Would go back.

I used to live closer to this place and come more often because of that, and always had a vary enjoyable experience. Recently I visited Madina after a longer break and cannot understand the lack of standards. Maybe the owner is new and does not care? I defenitely recognised the same waiter I remember. The very new experience I had was shocking, firstly we were seated at the dirty table (there were more free tables available), then the waiter wiped off the tale with wet cloth and left it like this to dry. Then myself and my partner got food on dirty greasy plates. Then we looked around to discovered that the glass part of ice cream container is filthy, the walls are stained with food and the whole place is not clean. We were very dissapointed. I really wonder if the owner has changed.

Delicious and very authentic Indian food at a great price. I have eaten here a few times and never been disappointed by the food. yummy paratha and mutter keema in particular. They even do really authentic lassis to drink! my only complaint would be that it has been hard to find a waiter/waitress each time I have been there.

I had high expectations after reading the reviews online, unfortunately I was very disappointed. It was the worst curry I ever had. The chicken was on the bone which wasn't mentioned on the menu and neither my friend nor I could eat the meal.

Wow I can't believe the amount of good reviews for this place. It's mediocre at best. Portions are large and cheap but nothing spectacular. The dosas are nice but everything else is quite unexciting. The service in this place is also awful. The few times I've been here I have had to constantly remind the waitress about something I asked for 10 - 15 minutes before. I've been to India a few times and I know a few Indians and the general consensus is that the food here may be authentic but that does not mean it's good. OK at best.

Very good Indian food with good value for money. Only complaint would be that they have loud blaring music in the background and it can give quite a headache. Service is very quick and they adjust spiciness according to your taste.

Absolutely hands down the best Indian food Ive tasted outside of Mumbai. Amazing Masala Dosa and the Dahl is beyond compare. Have tasted most Indian restaurants in Dublin and only somehow found this now. Definite 5 star recommendation!

My brother told me about this place and I decided to give it a go. Menu is massive with the usual mix of indian food. Ordered 2 starters and 2 mains with rice. Also got one mango lassi (no alcohol served) All the food came at once (only problem I has with the place) but the portions were huge. All the food was a very high quality and it's all cooked in full view of everyone which is always good. Bill came to 38 euro. Couldn't believe it. Def. will be back soon.

Foods are at very good value for a generous portions, do not even mention the restaurant does the promotions from time to time. We love the chicken briyani rice, the dosa with stuffed potatoes are delicious and the peshwari naan is interesting too.

Incredible value. Not the kind of place you'd bring someone on a date but definitely the kind of place that you'd go to for a cheap lunch option instead of brining in sandwiches to the office!!!

This is a great little restaurant I often frequent when going to the nearby cinema. The most outstanding thing about this place is, of course, the value for money. This is one of the cheapest Indian restaurants in the city center but the quality of the food doesn't suffer. The only criticism for the food would be the fact that their vindaloos are not VERY hot and I would love it if they had an option such as phall or something hotter on the menu. Another criticism would be the service at busy times. Quite often things are overlooked such as cutlery and a few times I have had starters and mains appearing on my table at the same time. All in all though it is a great restaurant and I will continue to frequent it whenever I go to the cinema!

Well Median is one of the best Indians I have been too if not the best, and as I work not too far would be in there most weeks. But recently the service has gone very down hill. The last two times I've been there we have been left waiting for 40-45 minutes before we got our food. A group of 6 people came in after us today and they were finished and leaving and we were only getting our food. Also I had asked for spicy pasana and was given medium. And last week another guy asked for lamb, but ended up with chicken. I do think the food is great in Median, and the price is really good too, but the service really needs to be looked at, as the last two occasions have really spoilt the place for me. I dont think I will be rushing back unless something can be done about the service.

Madina Desi is probably my favourite place to get indian food in Dublin, the flavours are wonderful, the spice level is always just right for me and I can honestly say that in numerous visits neither myself nor anyone I have got food there with have had anything to be unhappy with. I usually have the lamb chilli masala, a coriander naan and share a daal. As I say always very good and I have to admit to being glad they don't deliver or I'd get it even more often.

Have been coming to this restaurant for nearly 3 years now as it is the best Indian I have found in Dublin, particularly within its price range.Ate here again recently and was not disappointed. The portions are just right and the food is always very good quality with tons of flavour. My favourite meal here is the Bombay Aloo with Pilau Rice and Peshwari Naan. The Bombay Aloo has maybe lost a little bit of depth of flavour since a couple of years ago but the prices are very reasonable. The onion bhajis and samosas are gorgeous. The decor is basic but with ethnic touches. They play Indian music in the background. The toilets are also basic.I also like the way that you do not need to book ahead though they can get very busy at weekends. They also provide you with water for the table as standard. The menu could do with being more staright forward and have more detail in English of the dishes.Saying that there is lots of choice with a great variety of vegetarian dishes. Will be back again.

I was here today to grab some food before going to the cinema - it is very handy for that as it is only a few minutes away. I had the paneer tikka starters which was good. Madina is the only place in Dublin that I have seen that does dosa, i had the masala dosa which was alright. the dosa was good but the filling, not so much. the sambhar was just alright. My friend has the chicken karahi, and was surprised to find that the chicken wasn't deboned, so that was a bit disappointing. I had the rasamalai for dessert which was delicious. the place is affordable especially with their special offers. would go back.

I like this restaurant as its good value and efficient service. The last couple of times I've gone I've ordered a mixed veg curry and been disappointed as it didn't taste fresh and the veg wasn't great quality. My companion ordered a chicken curry though and was very happy with it. I usually also order a Dosa, the selection of which is very good and they're really tasty.

Had lunch here today as we've been dying to try this place since reading all the good reviews. Only a couple of people in when we got there but soon started to fill up after that. Very pleasant young girl served us and brought water to our table immediately. Ordered the Onion Bhajee and Chicken Pakora for starters - nicely presented and the tastiest either of us have had for a long time. For mains we had the Chicken Korma and Chicken Jalfrezi - the Korma was to die for! Creamy and sweet, just like I've been searching for in Dublin, and the chicken melted in my mouth, so tender. The Jalfrezi was full of flavour, but not quite as hot as my partner is used to, this suited me fine as I dont like hot dishes. The chicken in this dish was on the bone but still as tender as the Korma. I wasn't too impressed with the look of the fried rice until I tasted it - so aromatic, it was delicious. Great value for money and we'll certainly be back again to try more of their dishes. The only thing that confused us slightly was the menu, it seemed a little 'jumbled' but we found our way around it and thoroughly enjoyed out meal there.

I've been wanting to get down to Madina Desi curry co ever since I read a review in the Business Post a few weeks back. I was seated straight away, by someone who seems to own the place, and a bottle of water was placed in front of me straight away, a good start. As a big fan of Indian food,I was curious to try a Dosa, so I was recommended the Masala Dosa.It was very very good, tasty, filling and great value at 8.95. I was very surprised to learn that they have been in business for four years, but I suppose that's Mary Street for you. It would be a great place to eat either before or after a visit to Cineworld. I'm looking forward to returning, and trying out their full menu.

Decided to come here after seeing the restaurant in the top 100 places to eat in Dublin. The place was pretty full when we arrived for dinner at 6pm. I ordered the panner tandoori to start and the chicken curry for my main. Both dished were delicious. My friends were also very impressed with the food. The prices were very reasonable too. At one point about 20 indian/pakistan people came into the restaurant and many of the other diners were of the same origin which to me is a very good sign that the resturant has authentic good food. The next time you want a quick, informal indian mean, I would highly recommend this place.

At last I've discovered authentic Indian food in Dublin. Not just Indian, Keralin from the South coast of India. I've had dishes here that I haven't seen in 10 years since the cafes in London. Now we get this experience in Dublin. We ordered two veggie starters. Gol Gappa which was spring onion and other veg in a ligh crispy shell which you dipped in a slightly fruity sauce - very light and satisfying. The Anu Channa Chat was a light yoghurt and onion sauce with poppudoms broken and sprinkled over - again, so light and we ate it till the last drop. The first main was Bindhi Gost which was lamb and ocra cooked in a medium spicy sauce. I've had it many times before but this was the best. Just the right amount of ghee used in the cooking. We also both had a Dosa. This is rice pancake stuffed with mildly spiced potato. Fantastic and very light. Overall a very cheap and satisfying meal and a great place for veggies looking for something exciting. The staff we friendly and attentive and I'll certainly be back soon.

Well, I have not been in here some time. Went back recently, and I must say I really enjoyed the food. My friend had butter chicken and I had the sweet and spicy chicken tikka masala, and we had the smaller portion which was only 5 euros. It was just perfect. I would say for a girl that isnt famished, this is the perfect portion. It was wonderful and I would definitely go back, especially if I was going to the cinema, or shopping on Henry street. Such an easy location, though service can be horrible when it is very busy. Do not be afraid to ask for what you want here, sometimes it is required.

Lunch was fantastic. Good Indian food lover wud never be disappointed. Food give aromas of Ghee which is purest form and better than oil. Chana poori tasted amazing. Poori deep fried bread was very tasty. Biryanis were good but they can avoid frozen veg and use more flavors. Panner was very tasty and fresh. Parantha was lovely & huge. Its not a place where u expect classy service but they attend you which is fine. Def recoomend to stick to veg options as chicken is on the bone so not everybody will like it. Fantatic ,can't wait to go back and try more....next week and its cheap too

A gang of us ate here for lunch last week. i've been here a few times and each time its a bit more disappointing than the last. the service was incredibly slow, we were in there at least 90 minutes which is way too long for a work lunch break. though reasonably priced, the portions are way too big. A portion of rice is enough for at least 2 if not 3 people so there was a lot of waste. everybody thought their various dishes too greasy. i ordered the butter chicken, which started off nice, but as the sauce cooled it begtan to congeal back into pure butter. unpleasant. I gave up. I've made butter chicken several times at home, and most recipes use a small amount of butter, or sometimes none at all. this tasted of little else. I dont think i'll be back unless I hear the standard has improved. disappointing, used to be very good.

A good Punjabi friend swears Madina was a lot cheaper and of higher quality until recently- but it is just in 2009 that this tiny 2-floor place has been voted one of Dublin's best 100 restaurant in a popular little book. Whatever is the case, I will tell you what: whenever you decide to visit do not bother with the kebabs (they are not great) and aim directly at their fine range of Indian breads (not just your average naan but also rotis, parathas and uttapham, if they may be squizzed into this category!)- no other Pakistani/Indian restaurant does so many and it is a true highlight to find them here. Our vegetarian orders were also good and the rice pudding (kheer) tasted homemade. It is a really good place if you are in town for a quick bite. Just one piece of advice: do not discuss Kashmir in the premises!

Great little find... good food, fast service, and very good value. I was going to go for the v spicey option, and the waitress recomended against it... so went for a lesser spicey option, which was bang on... she could have said nothing and i wouldn't have been able to eat it. the decor is very simple... but for the money it's grand... i wouldn't bring a date here... but if you're looking for a quick cheap meal with a mate or gf, it's cool.

Popped in here for lunch at 2.30 yesterday and the place was dead - I must have missed the lunchtime rush!! Service was fine, attentive enough, I liked the way that a bottle of (tap) water arrived as soon as I sat down. I had a side of chana masala and a dosa masala, the food was just okay, the chana were tasty but I've had better elsewhere and I found the dosa to be a bit greasy. On the plus side the food is quite cheap and you can get a filling meal for a tenner! Was glad to have tried this restaurant but won't be rushing back!

Decided to go for lunch here after reading in Food & Wine Mag. It was lovely. Dosa was to die for and Tarka dal was very tasty and different from some other places i have eaten..Nann bread was disappoining. But do not go this place for decor but do go if you love a lovely spicy meal.

Overall I like the place and will be back but I just can't figure out why they make so much of an effort persuade me otherwise. The services is slow and indifferent with our waitress blatantly not wanting to be there, Some tables were left uncleaned for a long time and it looked bad. The decor isn't great and combined with service gives a pretty bad atmosphere. But the food is great! Really, really good and the prices very reasonable. I had the jalfezia and my wife had the chicken curry. Both excellent. They really should get the easy stuff right, maybe extra wait staff. I'll go back for sure but maybe when it's quieter next time.

Generally I love the food at Madina, but both the food and the service lack consistency. More often than not I have enjoyed the meal, but am somewhat reticent to recommend the place due to the variability. If you can tolerate some inattentive service (30 minutes waiting for the bill) and are in no rush, then it's well worth the visit.

Despite being such a lover of kebab do I have a hard time giving any great review for Madina. I had great expectations on the establishment as I have heard quite a lot of good about the food served. I might have been unlucky but it did not seem possible to confirm with the waitress how the kebab were going to be served and as a result hereof it went quite wrong. My girlfriends curry was very good though, it came with a pretty spicy sauce and loverly charcoal grilled lamb. The plate of rice would have fed the both of us. I suppose a 50% success rate will have me to come back to see if I can get it right next time.

I am a regular in this fine feasted Indian Restaurant. It’s the best Indian food u can get my kids prefer going to Madina Restaurant than a fast food outlet…… Their taste is so authentic, the only thing they don’t allow is alcohol, but the food is bellisimo, their Jelfrezi is the best. I have lived in England I have never tasted food so good……… SO if you are a real Indian/Pakistan Food lover Madina Desi Curry is your ideal place for the King Curry.

I went here as I love Indian/Pakistani food and I found the menu to be really interesting (dosa's, pasanda's etc). I was severely let down, this rates in the bottom 3 restaurants in Dublin I have had the misfortune of visiting. The food was bland, the chicken pasanda was just boiled chicken doused in ghee, and coloured with a dubious, bright yellow sauce, while the peshwari naan had some luminous pink powder in the middle (where were the fresh currants etc?) Even the pilau rice appeared to be just rice fried till translucent in grease - no spices, onion, stock used. I wasn't the only one to be astounded at the attempt to pass this off as authentic Indian food. The friend I went with lived in India for 6 months and found her food to be bland, greasy and laden with sugar. Note: no alcohol on sale to numb the pain either. I wouldn't recommend it.

This is a wonderful eatery. It has no pretensions, just excellent food; excellent and friendly staff; and good prices. I eat lunch in this restaurant 3 to 4 time each week and have never had to complain (and I am quick to complain if things are not as I expect them to be).

We had read many good reports on the restaurant and decided to give it a try for lunch. It was almost devoid of atmosphere and character and we were shown to a grubby table. The well worn menu listed a comprehensive range of Indian food, but no wine. My curry was supposed to be a hot Madras which was mild and not very tasty and served on a dirty plate. My wife chose a medium curry which was not that tasty and came with cold and stodgy rice. The service was indifferent and when I came to pay had to go down the road to a cash machine because they did not take cards of any description. It certainly was not good value for money and won't be seeing our patronage again.

I visited this restaurant last year with a friend and enjoyed the food. When I visited two days ago I felt let down by the quality and quantity of the food. I ordered a spicy chicken dish and I received three or four small chicken pieces on the bone. I've seen this trick done before to minimise costs in restaurants. So I essentially paid ten euro for some mosels of chicken with some sauce and rice. The sauce was also bland and not spicy enough. I'll be avoiding this place from now on.

This is one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin and the only Indian restaurant worth going to, in my opinion. I love the authentic food, real Indian food. I think this is the only place where you can get dosas, which is one of my favourite dishes. I love the vast vegetarian menu and the fact that they cook vegetarian food away from meat. The atmosphere is great and service is friendly and good. It's also cheap and portions are huge.

Came back here again to sample the famed 'dosa' and boy was it worth it. I had the cheese dosa, delicious! Very crispy and light, and the chutney dip that came with it was so good I could've eaten a bucket of it! Will definitely be back again soon.

One of my very favourite restaurants in Dublin, Madina has a varied and exciting menu that caters to all levels of spiciness. If you're feeling unadventurous their pasandas and butter chicken are creamy and delicious. If you prefer your food on the spicy end, you'll find yourself well catered for too. I haven't tried a Dosa yet but looking at previous comments I definitely will next time. If you have any room left after your mains (and you probably won't), the Kheer (rice pudding covered with crushed pistachios) is absolutely fantastic. Highly highly recommended.

The best, most authentic, cheapest Indian restaurant in Dublin!! (and I've tried a lot!) I see people have complained about their starter coming at the same time as their main course... there's no pretense here - the food just comes when it's ready and that's that, no waiting around keeping warm in the kitchen. And it's such good value you can go every week!

This place wasn't as good as previous reviews led me to believe. The service was fantastic (except for the starters arriving only 1 minute before the mains). There was a good vegetarian selection on the menu, like most Indian restaurants. Unfortunately the food just wasn't that great. We shared a couple of dishes. We asked for the vegetable curry to be very spicy however there was only the tiniest hint of spice so it was quite disappointing. The portions of rice were huge compared to the size of the dishes. Overall it worked out a little more expensive than other Indians, which I hadn't expected from a cafe.

The perfect place for an Indian lunch, there is only really one dish worth mentioning: Masala Dosa. This is, as far as I know, the only place in Dublin where you can get this genuinely authentic lunch-time dish. It consists of spiced potatoes rolled up in a large crispy pancake, along with two sauces on the side. It's absolutely delicious and rather good value. As this is a Muslim restaurant, they don't serve alcohol, so it's possibly not the best place for dinner if you like a bottle of wine with your food.

if you are downtown, tired, hungry and can't face the usual quick break of coffee/tea with bagel/danish/scone, etc then come here and try a dosa. I have never has a dosa before so I cannot judge how good these are but in any case they taste absolutely fantastic. This is a great place .. a real gem. Great for vegetarians too. i should add that this is more of a snack place than a dating restaurant (unless you 're trying on an eccentric thing). Its the real Indian subcontinent here. Great.

I always come here if i need a curry fix. The service is prompt and the food is well priced for the portion you receive. The butter chicken, palak paneer and mango lassi are my favourites to get here. However, on some days the rice can be a little too greasy to stomach.

I've been here a couple of times - one of the hints that you're getting something good is that the clientele are very much those who'd have a long experience of this cuisine. The decor is lovely and the smells that reach out onto the street just divine. The food is solidly good and the prices are also good. I'm always happy to eat here. However, perhaps it's my westernised palette and there's nothing I can really put my finger on, but I just prefer others.

Was hungry in town and stopped here with a friend because it looked and smelled nice from the street. It was a quick, casual, cheap meal and the food was nice. I had the lamb korma, my cousin had the chicken tikka, and we shared a boiled rice and a naan bread. All in all it came to a total of e24, so very cheap. We saw lots of amazing looking food leave the kitchen, wish we hadn't gone for the safe options of dishes we know. I love Indian food but never know what to order, I didn't know most of the dishes on the menu, but they looked great. I sat downstairs but upstairs looked nicer, so I'll do that next time.

Service is always a bit haphazard in the place, but the prices make up for it, and the service is normally friendly just slow. Relax and soak it all up. It is the closest thing I have had in Ireland to Indian food, and I love the Dosa's. And the lassis. And you will find chillies in your food, and sometimes lots of them, so look at what your eating rather than gobbling it down.

low cost everyday indian is how I would describe this place. An indian for indians, or at least thats the impression I got when I went there. Good food, The service is pretty functional rather than high level and the surroundings are similar. If you like indian food you will like this place.

Its a good while since I wrote the last review of this place and had such a fantastic feast on Wednesday night I felt the need for an update. One word - yum. Ive been coming here regularly for the last few months trying out different things and had often noticed people eating dosa but never picked up the courage to ask what they were - this time I had the masala dosa and was very very impressed. True the service can be hit and miss (this time we had the most lovely waitress), also true that food is served as its made so doesn't always arrive together but then again this is not somewhere you are going to while away 4 hours over dinner so this doesn't worry me. Ill continue to go back but feel that I wont be looking at the rest of the menu any more now that Ive found dosa! The chicken tikka is also amazing - the most succulent Ive ever tasted. Only one downside - Id love to have a beer with my dinner here - get a drinks licence!

I am a big lover of Indian food so I went to Madina on Mary Street with 3 friends. The service was awful. We got our main course before our starters, when the starter’s arrived we were left short 2. We had to ask for our drinks 3 times. Wake up.. the food is good.. get rid of your floor staff

I was brought here by a friend in college, unsure what to expect from the food. I needn't have worried, I got the butter chicken dish with rice. It was beautiful and the portion was large. The staff were very attentive but not overly fussy. It's really nice to get a taste of foreign food and culture. The price was great too. I'll definitely back, I just wish it was a bit closer to the South Side!

Authentic Indian food!! Cant find another place that would beat this jaunt that serves dosas!! Their weak attempt with the chandelier and bright colours of the interior give it a casual appeal. Food is extremely tasty. Highly recommend the butter chicken!!

Went there on recommendation. Maybe it was the chef's bad day. Idlis were nice, desi biryani had very dry inedible chicken pieces & was left uneaten. Nobody even bothered to ask,if there was something wrong with the dish. Lamb on the bone had more bone & fat. Toilets were dirty, though the rest of the place looked clean enough. Overall a big let down.

I was brought here by one of my Indian friends it's the only place in the city she will eat. The decor is basic but the food is sublime. The waiting staff are all lovely and are quite happy to explain the menu if you're not sure. Don't be afraid if you're the only Irish face; they don't bite, go and try you'll soon be hooked. Oh and they do 'Doggy bags' as the portions are huge.

For a cheap and cheerful fast food style Indian this place is good! However, the quality of the chicken was disgraceful, I got a chicken biryani and although the dish was tasty, the chicken came as pieces on the bone and it could have been days old given the dryness and overall bad appearance of it, I'll be going vegetarian next time!

Decent food, good value. True, we didn't get a huge amount of meat, but with naam bread, rice etc was plenty. The starters were very spicy, but that's what you'd expect in an Indian. Probably wouldn't go there for a special occasion, but grand for post shopping/cinema bite to eat.

Went here with some friends on a Saturday evening, we were seated immediately, we ordered all the mango lassie which was very tasty, further we shared 2 starter plates and then we ordered 6 different mains also to share, with rice and naan..... it was really good food (some too spicy for me) but really good, they don't serve alcohol... but would certainly go back here.

EXCELLENT place! We have been there a few times now and let me tell you. I am salivating just thinking about going again. The food is exceptionally well done at a great price. Met some people here after work for a quick bite to eat last week and was delighted to have found the place! Good value, high quality food in the city centre - a very unusual combination! The atmosphere of the place is mixed, with the music somewhat invasive but otherwise it's a comfortable place for a meal - we were upstairs on the 'mezzanine' level so can't comment on surroundings downstairs. Staff were efficient, friendly and unobtrusive, whilst the food was of a very good standard. We had a broad range of dishes served to our group and everyone enjoyed what they ordered - though some weren't able to finish due to the portion size! Not so sure if this is the place to go for a romantic evening, but for a reasonably priced, accessible and good quality restaurant it's hard to beat. Highly recommended!

I've had mixed experiences here. The first time I went I ordered a Butter Chicken which was fantastic; my girlfriend had a chicken curry that was very oily and bland. On the second occasion I ordered the same Butter Chicken and received a disgusting curry that tasted like cheese. The waiter assured me it was butter chicken when I questioned him, but it didn't taste like any BC I'd ever had (and I've had a few). Service is great and it's a cool place to eat. All the Naan, rice etc I've had there have been great, just a couple of dodgy curry experiences!

Have eaten here a few times now. It's a nicely done snack bar with average quality Indian fare. The curries are nice enough, small meat portions on the bone and mildly flavoured sauces with large rice portion. I wouldn't call it inexpensive you just get less meat and lesser quality too. I wouldn't call it fresh either as a lot of the food is precooked and stored in tuppaware. The tikkas are over salted and can be hard due to multiple reheats. The curries are generic, oily and a little non descript. As a snackbar it's well done. Compared to a good Indian resturant this place is only average.

Well after my wife ate hear the week before and wouldn't stop telling me what amazing value and good food this place had I had to give it a go so we both headed to Madina Desi's last Saturday. The downstairs floor was sticky to walk on and the seating area cold from people always walking in and out of the door, it more resembled a takeaway than a restaurant. Then again, they do takeaway so... The waiting staff all seemed very friendly apart from the girl we had waiting on us. She didn't seem like she was having the best of days and when I asked for a glass of milk with my curry she didn't bother bringing me one. The busy upstairs area is more comfortable and warm and we were lucky enough to get a table there after waiting 5 minutes. The foot itself is quite tasty. The green curry was above average, it taste quite natural (I couldn't taste a few spoonfuls of sugar in it for western taste), but delicious all the same. I can't even remember the name of the dish I had, Rogun Josh or something similar. The only let down for me which is more of a personal preference was the Naan bread. I'm a big coriander Naan bread fan but eating this Naan bread was like being put out to pasture in a coriander field. Far too heavy on the coriander. The deserts aren't worth speaking of so we didn't try any. What did impress me was the amount of Indian people actually eating there. Now whether that's just for the food or because it is very cheap I can't make up my mind.

This place is fab. I had always passed it and never managed to go in so I went in with a friend on Friday night. It was packed with Indian and Pakistani people and the food smelt amazing. We decided to try dosa, which is a pancake with filling along with 2 starters, and huge main courses along with a juice to follow and it only came to 40 euro. There is no alcohol served so do not expect a beer with your curry but it made no difference to us. The staff are lovely as well and gave us a doggy bag at the end, as we could not finish off our mains. The prices are due to go up in the next week or so but not by much, it is so reasonable that a few extra euros will not make a difference. If you like authentic Indian and Pakistani food this is the place for you.

One of the best curry houses in dublin, and certainly one of the cheapest! they do a wide range of great quality indian/pakistani style dishes at a seriously reasonable price. It may look a little like a fast food restaurant but they have good table service and food that is easily on par with some of the more central restaurants who serve the same fare at an inflated price. A possible tell tale sign of its quality/authenticity is the number of foreign nationals who grace the place every time I go there. Can't wait to try the Idlis!

What a great place. Nice and inviting. Seems to be a place for Indian families to come altogether. The best pilau rice i have ever had. The menu looks great. Lovely big pieces of meat, watch the bones. Had the Karahi, lovely spices, went really with the rice. Rice is extra, which is normal at most indians, but it is a massive portion so sharing is no problem. Will definitely come again and work my way through the menu, once i know what everthing is.

This restaraunt is probably up there with the nicest indian/pakistani food i've ever tasted. The food is so fresh and homecooked that the same dishes can even vary slightly from time to time but they are always sublime. Pretty much everything is niceand price wise its unbelievably cheap. we can have 2 main poppadums and nan with 2 cokes(they dont serve alcohol - :() for under 25 euro.

Went here last night after work after reading the review in the Sunday Tribune and was not disappointed in the slightest. I had the nicest Korma I ever remember having and my boyfriend had a really tasty curry. The Peshawari nan was to die for. And so reasonably priced as well. Will definitely be back.

Really, really gorgeous. I could eat their Mutter Paneer until it comes out my ears and I explode. Excellent value authentic Indian food. One thing to keep in mind is that if one of your orders the Dosa it's going to come out before all the other course and you'll have to sit on your hands to avoid eating your friend's dinner. Went out with 4 people, we had 2 courses each and the bill came to less than €60 and the staff are lovely. All my thumbs up for this place!

Desi curry on Mary Street is my absolute favourite home of Indian food in Dublin. It's not a restaurant per say, more of a curry cafe, so it's perfect if you fancy dropping in after shopping. The food though, is waaaay above cafe quality. All of the meat dishes are cooked on the bone and are tender and juicy as a result - just be warned and don't bite down as you could have an expensive dentist's bill! The staff are very friendly and polite, quick and attentive. The best Karahi in Dublin, bar none.
