We visited Louie's for lunch with the kids on the 12th Nov because my wife came across it while doing a course in DIT on Mountjoy Sq. Let me say this place is a hidden gem in North Dublin, there wasn't many in but the staff were great with the kids and the food was stick to the ribs goodness, The bill was €76 for 2 adults and 2 kids with a bottle of wine. Cant wait to go back for the baked goats cheese and figs "beautiful" Well worth a visit!!

Went there one Saturday nearly one week ago, just managed to get a table, Staff were very pleasant and we had a nice welcome glass of Prosecco, Our starters were excellent specially the mushroom and goats cheese, If have been here a few time before so on this occasion was a little disappointed with the main course’s but I feel that we may have made the wrong choice, on the night They seem to making a great effort to get things right, will come again to try different mains. Small wine list priced reasonably

Found this via City Deals, which they had extended through the end of July. I had the Duck, my partner had the steak for the 4 euro suppliment. Because service was brilliant and the food was so tasty, We went so far as to splurge on dessert, coffee, and an aperatif - something that rarely happens. I am certainly going back and would recommend this small restaurant nugget for a classy romantic dinner, a upscale business meeting, or just someplace to show off as a shining example of local cuisine away from Temple Bar.

We would never have found this little gem only for city deals. It is a lovely restuarant, great atmosphere and the staff are excellent. We were a group of four and between us we got, the duck, seabass and two chicken mains. All were delicious. I cannot praise the food enough. I cannot wait to go back again.

Only for city deal I would never have found this little gem. Lovely place with a really relaxed atmosphere, friendly but efficient staff and the food was to a very high standard. I had a pistachio crusted goats cheese starter which is getting me hungry even thinking about it again and had a taste of the sea food chowder which was lovely and creamy, would have loved a wee bit more fish and less potato but that is being really pernickety!!For mains, we had duck leg confit which just fell off the bone and was so tender and tasty, and also the yellow fin tuna which was cooked to perfection with lime+coriander, yum-mieee. My dessert of pear crumble was more like a pear sponge but I demolished it anyway especially as it was accompanied by a delicious scoop of homemade icecream. I was so impressed, I booked a table for the following week for a night out with friends. Think that is as high a recommendation as I can give.

We had a city deal voucher, otherwise we would never have found this lovely place. When we arrived we were immediatley seated and the menu explained to us. My companion asked if he could have a glass of red wine instead of the Prosecco and this was no problem. We had the tuna and fillet steak as mains with roast potatoes and veg sides. The food was very good, steak perfectly cooked (medium) and the tuna delicious. Overall a great experience with great service. We will be back to try the early bird menu.

Very pleasant visit. We had sea bass and fillet stake as mains, chips and house salad as sides, and Apple & Custard Tart with home made Strawberry Ice Cream as a dessert, and everything was absolutely delicious. The service was very good and attentive, as well. We can definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for a reasonably priced and enjoyable dinner. We would not have found the place without CityDeal voucher, so that really worked for us.

This restaurant is in an odd location but has been beautificully restored with great attention to detail. The food was delicious and plentiful. I had a smoked haddock gratin for starter which was very tasty and duck breast for mains on a bed of lentils together with potatoes and veg all very well seasoned. The only criticism I could make was the bread given out at the start of the meal was quite bland and a little stale.

A group of 6 of us went here on a Tuesday evening recently. A great find in north inner city I have to say! Was very quite as it was a Tuesday night, only 2 other people in the restaurant. It was warm and nicely lit and the background music was good. The decor and interior mad it feel as if we were in a restaurant on merrion square rather then mountjoy square. The waiter was very helpful without being too fussy or overbearing. He knew the menu well and was able to answer any of our questions about the courses. I had the chickpea patties for a starter, extremely tasty and just right portion size. The main course special was baked cod and was perfectly done and so tasty. The others had steak and were definitely not disappointed either. For dessert I went for the white chocolate and lime cheesecake, very very sweet but so tasty! The apple crumble was also scrumptious. Some of the group had the early bird which was 65euro for 3 courses for 2 people plus a bottle of wine, very good value. I would definitely return, although maybe on a busier night to experience a better atmosphere.

went here for lunch. exellent value lunch menu with good options. warm soda bread was nice. my starter of gourmet sausage with puy lentils was fantastic and there was pomegranite seeds in the lentils which iv never seen before and was very interesting and lifted the dish, main course of haddock and pepperinade was let down by the fish which was not evenly portioned and meant half of it was very overcooked and other half was well cooked. this is not acceptable in a restaurant environment. there were also 4 bones in it which again is elementary stuff and shouldnt happen although the pepperinade was very good. companian had chicken breast with mash and gravy and raved about it. dessert wise i did not enjoy mine at all it was called a blueberry and coconut tart with coulis and was bone dry and not tasty at all i brought this to waitresses attention but got no feedback on it. overall i did like this place it was very busy for lunch the room is cosy with good atmosphere. the food was nice but some dishes needed work. i will return here and hopefully these mistakes will be gone next time.

Impromptu dinner with a friend who happens to live close to this restaurant. I was very suspicious when he told me we should try the place down the road. The north inner city is not known for it's vast array of eateries. On entering this Georgian house basement restaurant I must say I was pleasantly surprised. I could just as easily have been on Merrion as Mountjoy square. The staff were well trained and helpful without being in-your-face the whole time. We were asked once was everything ok and it certainly was. I was driving so no wine and only a main course but what I had was fabulous. It was the fish special and was hake, muscles, new potatoes, mange tout, broad beans and the nicest sauce I've had in quite some time. This will definitely be on my re-visit list. Only problem is location, it's not a short stroll from any public transport so as to leave the car at home. If I have any issue (no complaints) it would be with the bread. A fresher, crustier bread would have been nicer and lighter than the dense white we were given. Again the service was fabulous though as they offered to take the empty bread plate or give us some more if we liked! Can't say enough, check it out some night you have a driver!

Seven of us availed of the Eirly Brid menu and none of us were disappointed. Starters, mine the goats cheese, small but so tasty I love the nutty dressing and mates chowder was the talk of the table, full of good chunks of various fish. Mains - I had the cod & home made chips (unlike previous report ours were homemade) The waiter had kindly informed me it wasnt a huge serving, when I was hedging between fish or chicken. It was plenty for me and the home made tartar sauce was delicious. The chicken dish was more homely but mey mates al enjoyed it, the pasta of the day although tasty had a complaint of a little too much oil (but the description did mention oil so....) and the steak (which looked on the small side to me) was declared delicious. Desserts next, mine the chocolate tart was divine, nothing more needs to be said! Out of carrot cake the lemon drizzle cake was chosen by 4 all enjoyed it a coule said a little dry. The 2 gents who served were great waiters, informative without being pushy, and very pleasant. We all enjoyed and will return.

I live locally to your restaurant and decided to pop in after picking up the kids from creche one Thursday afternoon. I booked a table for 2 adults and 2 kids at 5.30 and was told you needed it back at 7.30pm , no prob , just a quick bite . I was disappointed with the lack of a kids menu when we arrived, the waiter was very friendly and helpful and said that they could accommodate the kids with a smaller meal. The early bird menu was totally different than the one you have on their website , more expensive , higher supplement on the steak,( 4.00 is steep) The food was fine , I was disappointed with we were given frozen chips rather than (fresh cut chips) as described on the menu. the desserts were lovely , really nice. We had a pint & glass of wine with the meal. The only juice drinks available to the kids was cranberry, fine they like it, but at 5.60 for 2 glasses ? and the kids meals , chicken & chips & fish and chips & a ice cream scoop at 9.99 each , they are 3 and 5 yrs old.The meal for my kids was almost 13 euro EACH, just too expensive. This was for a quick bite on the way home from work. In total my bill was 90.38 . I sent a email to the restaurant but received no reply at all. I love to see businesses in the area doing well so I thought honest opinion is worth sending.

I ate here with a friend in November... We ate from the early bird menu which was fantastic value... It is the ideal location to eat before going to the theatre; The Gate Theatre is a 10 min walk away... The food was really nice, not out of this world but nice... The desserts were absolutely fantastic and the starter was great... The main courses were a bit of a let down by comparison... Service and atmosphere were excellent... I will go back there to give them another chance with the main courses as overall it was a great restaurant

Great food, lovely cosy room and superb value. Louies reminds me of another favourite place, with great food and really relaxing room, and although the surrounding area isnt great, the food more than makes up for it.

Thrilled to find another great restaurant on the Northside to add to the (short) list. The owners have done wonders with the interior, a really lovely space, spacious but intimate and atmospheric. Lovely smoking area outside, upstairs. The (dinner) menu is great, found it hard to choose a starter from all the great options. Starters arrived quite promptly but mains arrived about 10 minutes after we'd finished our starters, seemed too soon. That said we lingered for an hour after we'd paid the bill and weren't turfed out. Cheeseboard was lovely as were the other desserts.

This is a fine spot for a quality bite in the North Inner City. We recently popped in there for pre theatre dinner, as they are a 15min stroll from the Gate Theatre. While the pre theater / early bird menu has some good options on it, we ended up going for items from the main menu, as they were equally reasonable. They also set a good standard for service in an age where decent service no longer seems to be the default. We'll be back when next in this part of town!

Went there with three others, service very friendly and efficent. I ordered Monkfish and it was very lack lustre , no taste and just generally lacking. Other three mains were just o.k but the presentation of same was excellent. Maybe, I picked a bad night for the chef but not as good as usual but I will be back.

Had dinner here last night. Thought it was excellent. Thought the choice of starters was a bit limited. No chowder as per menu here. Had the caeser salad which wasnt the greatest I have ever had but far from the worst. Had the steak which was very good. The dessert however was excellent. The blueberry cumble ice cream was simply amazing!!

Have visited Louies several times for lunch as it is located near work. The restaurant itself is located in a lovely old house on Mountjoy Square and both the deocr and atmosphere are quite pleasant. Service on this occasion was also pleasant and efficient. My only gripe with the place is the portion size- I had the roasted cod, which itself was delicious but was tiny (almost bite-sized). It was served with 3 tiny new potatoes and a spoonful of creamed leeks-again, all very nice but for €12.95 I expected a bit more. Several of my wok colleagues also commented on the small size of their main course dishes. This was my third time to visit Louies and each time I have felt their portion sizes are shrinking. I left the place feeling hungry and slightly cheated.

This was my second visit here and this occasion was for my Dad to celebrate fathers day. The service provided here is pleasant, efficient and consistently good. With regards to food a well put together menu provides good choices to suit every palate. In addition there are daily specials for one to choose from. Three of us opted for a potato and red onion soup starter whilst the fourth party member chose a crab starter both of which being very good. I had a fillet steak, my father had the fish special which on this occasion was brill. The remaining two in the party had steaks. Everybody agreed the main courses were very good in quality, taste, presentation, and portion size. We also had some skinny fries which were fab. To finish three of us had an apple parcel each and the remaining person had a chocolate bombe again all of us were most satisfied. The atmosphere in the restaurant was buzzing and it was practically full. It is very tastefully decorated. I would highly recommend you to visit here. This restaurant has a special place in my heart not only for its excellent food and surroundings but also due to the fact that my grandmother lived in this very building in the 1920's

There were 4 of us for diner. We went for the a la carte menu. We had main courses (monkfish and the blue cheese tart) which were very nice (taste and presentation). We had also ordered side dishes - thyme potatoes (which were in fact boiled potatoes and no thyme - 3 euro). We had to ask for the other side orders as they were not served at the same time as the main courses. The garlic mash had not enough garlic to be called a garlic mash. We ordered 3 desserts and a coffee. The desserts were excellent but the coffee only came after we asked for it again. The service was not friendly enough and would have needed to be faster (you had to wait a long time to order) the restaurant was not that busy to excuse the slowness but the bill came very fast! So the food is good but the service lets it down. Pity!

I've been here for lunch a number of times since late last year as I moved to a job near by. Each time i've been there the staff have been friendly. I think the food is poor though. Overly rich sauces seem like a throwback to 1970s or 80s style food. Also the restaurant can be quite draughty.

service is slow- waited a long time before a drink appeared on the table and had to make great effort to get this. Food was good but not special and certainly lacking in any originality or creativity. Duck confit for a starter was poor - meat seemed to have been boiled. the brill was very over cooked and dry. Wine way over priced. Wait staff pleasant but lacking finesse and obviously not trained - had to get our own coats on leaving and no one bothered to say good night. Very good setting but needs to smarten up on its food and service.

ate here on valentines night. it was a 6pm sitting so only 2 other couples there. By the time we left at around 8pm there were still only about 4 couples dining. This made it feel cold & empty. The premises has been superbly restored. The "garden area" upstairs where the toilets are is beautiful. the food was lovely, a good wide range of menus to choose from where where modestly priced. And they were quite flexible about picking & choosing across the menus for no extra charge. the terrine starter was lovely - gamey, rich & country feel to it. I had the steak cooked med-rare which was done perfectly. The lamb was delicious, soft & tender. I would defo recommend eating here.

I went to Louie's on a Saturday night with my boyfriend and was really excited about it, having heard so many good things about it. I enjoyed my visit, but was a little disappointed in some areas. The food was not one of these - it was fantastic, and the price was reasonable for the quality of food and presentation. We split the goats cheese starter, I had the sea bream, and we split the scorched strawberries and apple/cinnamon filo parcel. Next time I'd skip the strawberries, they weren't anything to write home about, but the rest of the meal was fantastic, as was the wine we had. My main complaints (disappointments?) were how cold the restaurant was, and the lack of atmosphere. For 9pm on a Saturday it was completely dead - little more than half the tables occupied, very quiet music and everybody speaking in hushed tones. Had Louie's had a better atmosphere it would have gotten 5 stars from me. Oh and I should mention that service was fantastic. No pressure, no hovering, utterly pleasant and efficient :)

This was my second trip to this restaurant. I'm sorry it had taken me so long to return as everything lived up to my memories of the last time. This time I was celebrating my birthday. There were seven of us and it meant we managed to try a huge variety of the items on the menu and we were not disappointed with any of our choices. The staff again were very helpful and friendly. The place was full and had a great buzz about it. Had a great night and will be returning very soon.

Before starting this review I am curious as to the meaning of the word "gem" in the Irish/English vocabulary...every time a new restaurant opens or every time people go to a rather smallish cozier place the label "gem" fits in before anything else. Does ambience actually matter more than food itself? At Louie's I found a beautiful room made even warmer by a lovely fireplace on while battling a freezing evening out in the streets. Foodwise...just ok. Tasty Fig tart and Caesar salad to start off with but 3 tiny round pieces of pork as main did not impress me nor did the mash sitting next to it. The side order we chose were...fries and pesto mash! Nothing I could not cook myself at home really. My dessert was a filo pastry filled with apple which was good- the scoop of cinnamon ice-cream was smaller than your average ferrero-rogge! I guess that they have to resort to feeding the customer with children's portion as part of the recession times... Service was just correct and I was quite surprised to see all three waiting staff been Irish- nice touch! A place with potential in a hard-to-develop area. I would be interested to see how they manage to attract foodies during 2010.

Great food and a hidden gem! The menu is perfect giving that month watering feeling that you just don't know what to choose. My sister and I popped in there on a very rainy Friday evening without a reservation as we were passing to go to town. Best spur of the moment find -Loved it straight away, the welcome was brilliant offered us hot drinks straight away and a seat at the bar - the place with hopping which is great to see for a new place - we waited about half an hour but the waiters kept us entertained in that time so we didn't might at all. Food was excellent. I think it is my new favorite restaurant in Dublin.

I visited Louies on Friday evening on the recommendation of a friend and after consultation with menupages! OMG this is a fantastic place, the job they've done on the restoration is amazing. So before we sat down we were happy! Theres something for everyone on the menu and then there are specials as well. My sister had the duck and goose confit for mains; we all tucked in and gave it ten out of ten. DB and i both had the fish special, sea bream, and it was so nicely cooked, sweet and moist. Service was friendly and efficient. Louies is not a cheap place, but not overly expensive either. You get terrific food, great service in beautiful surroundings so its definitely worth it.

Book Louies for a group occasion and although they don't normally open on Tuesday evening they did for the group meal which was for a group of 15. We had a very pleasant evening and they prepared a menu specially for us and were very attentive. Steaks were very good and the apple tart a real treat. Lovely athmosphere and beautiful surroundings. Nice to give an upcoming restaurant business and they appear to appreicate the custom unless lots of places that nearly consider its a privilege for them to serve you instead of the other way round

Had a very pleasant early bird meal here with my wife and daughter on Friday evening. Contrary to other reviewers' fears, this area is pretty safe and I'm not sure why they should feel otherwise. Southsiders' phobia perhaps ? If in any doubt, the very helpful staff will call a taxi for patrons. I had the chowder, which was top class and the striploin steak which was a bit chewey (my daughters steak was very tender). When I mentioned this to the manager, he promptly reduced the bill. Panacotta and apple tart desserts were excellent and the bill was very reasonable. This is an amazing restaurant based in a 250 year old Georgian house that has been tastefully renovated and with some style. Glad to see that the availability times for the pre theatre menu have been corrected on this site as they were very misleading. If you have to switch to the A La Carte menu, it turns a little bit pricey. I liked the fact that there is a full bar service although Arthur's Day, the previous day, must have created a run on their Guinness as the pump was dry when I visited. Louies slots into my top ten Dublin restaurants for value friendliness and quality (albeit towards the bottom end) and I hope it gets the custom it deserves to sustain itself in an area where there is a limited number of good eating houses.

Was here Sat 10th Oct before the Ire v Italy game with my husband. Lovely venue and friendy staff. Staff seemed to know a lot of the customers, bit like a friendly local. Had the early bird. Food was fine, ok. Not brill but passable. Only negitive I have is that we were asked to tip. Handy place for pre concert or match get togethers.

I was here with the girls last Friday, we decided to really dress up and make a night of it as we had 2 birthdays in the group. What a little gem we found. I couldn't find fault with anything and great value for money. They have done a fab job on the restoration of this wonderful house and decor is warm and inviting. Not the most exciting part of town but lets help them out with our business. We'll be back. Well done.

I was immediately impressed by Louie's when I walked in. It's a beautifully renovated basement restaurant that manages to be spacious yet intimate with an impressive conservatory and smoking area to relax pre and post meal. The food is also a winner, with delicious homemade breads, a salty and hearty chowder and other options such as wings and soups enjoyed by my dining buddies as starters. Main portions were very small however, the bangers and mash looked quite lonely on a massive plate and the chicken serving seemed tiny. Having said that both were delicious but a little more was deserved I think. Desserts were back up to standard again, my pannacotta was light and creamy, and the filo apple pie was sublime. My one (fairly big) complaint however is that the pre-theatre menu is advertised on menupages as being available all night on Wednesdays. Our waiter advised me that this was not the case but that there was a €65 deal for couples inc. a bottle of wine. It wasn't ideal as some of us weren't drinking. Also it might have been helpful if we had been given this special menu from the start without having to ask for it...... Overall though, if you know what to expect menu and costwise I'd definitely recommend Louie's and I look forward to going back asap!

I really wanted to love this place. I heard so many great things. Went as part of a large group and for the most part the evening was great. Possibly from the atmosphere we created ourselves as a group. But there where a few things that took a lot from our night. Firstly our waiter was by no means professional, he had to read specials off a piece of paper. Even though there where only 2! Also just the standard of service was very below par. Then the surprise sides. 8 extra sides nobody ordered. All had to be paid for! Would only go back for the food. The 4.5 rating seems to have gone to the heads of front of house. Me thinks its time to match the quality of the food.

A gang of six descended on Louies Bistro on a mild Wednesday night! We opted for the 3 course early bird offer with a bottle of quality house wine costing €65 per couple. I could not fault the food at all apart from wanting the portion sizes to be bigger! From a homely and salty chowder to the most tender pan fried chicken and to wrap up a decadent white chocolate and hazelnut terrine and a decent americano! This place deserves to do well. Beautiful surroundings, friendly staff and professionally served food this is one to check out. One caveat though - my friend was not happy with the pasta main course. Apart from that absolutely flawless and I'll most definitely be back.

We went for the early bird, without the wine. Both had steak, which was cooked exactly as we ordered. The service was good. I would recommend this restaurant and would go there again.

I ate here last night for the first time. In general the food was very nice, the menu is especially good for vegetarians. The service was a bit lacking but friendly. Side orders of vegetables and potatoes were left on the table with the main although they had not been ordered, the cost of them was added to the bill. I dislike this policy and will not be returning for that reason. The actual building is very nice but its not in the best area in terms of safety.

The best value meal I have had in Dublin. Got the meal for two for €65 including bottle of wine. Nice decor and staff are friendly. I had the Goats cheese and beetroot salad to start while my friend had the chowder. Delicous bread and tomato pesto accompanied the starters. We both had steak as main course and it was cooked to perfection. The meat was good quality. Desserts were unusual. I had orange flower pannacotta with rhubarb glaze which was outstanding. M had apple tart made with filo pastry which she also enjoyed. The wine was far from plonk - a nice Merlot This bistro deserves your business. Go!

Had the early bird menu here on Wednesday night - 3 courses for €23.95. The decor is lovely and the smoking terrace would leave you thinking you were in the med - very stylish. Having said that the menu was a bit limited - two soups, goats cheese or chicken wings for starters. I had the chicken wings - not great. My friend had the chowder which he enjoyed. We had fresh homemade bread and pesto with it which was delicious. We both opted for the steak main course - €2.50 supplement. Not bad. For desert two white chocolate terrines - nice but in a thick custard kind of way. We had a bottle of spanish red - bill total €78.50. Pretty good value - nice room - service not great - choice on menu not great.

Ate here with a friend recently. Suberb. Great venue, loved the decor, wary as to the area after dark. We were there for early bird and left about 20.15 - therefore, no problems. We had seafood chowder and soup of the day - fabulous. .This restaurant will go places. For the mains, we had rib eye steaks cooked to perfection - rare and well done. Desserts were yummy also - white chocolate and hazelnut terrine / wild apple pie with raspberry compote. They have pre - theatre menu for 65 euro - dinner for 2 (3 courses) + bottle of house wine. We will be back with our spouses, work colleagues. Ideal for work nite out - can accomodate up to 65 people.

In summaryIn summary, this place is a gem, all the way from the decor to the people working there to the food and wine. Tucked away on the Croke Park side of Mountjoy Square, Louie’s Bistro hit all the right buttons the night we visited. We shared the Chilli & Lime Prawns starters, which was bang on! Just enough chilli to leave a taste for more, and with shavings of mango and coconut, this is one I’ll try make at home. For mains I had the medallions of pork fillet, which was accompanied by green peas blanched to perfection, while my partner had a very tasty ravioli. The service was very professional, with the staff moving things at a good pace without rushing us or making us feel rushed. This is definitely somewhere I will be back to soon, but one I will try to keep to myself a while!

Went here recently with friends, the decor is lovely but found it lacking a bit in atmosphere. To start I had the baked goats cheese which was nice but was literally just cheese on a plate, no salad or bread to go with it. Friend's said the Caesar salad was v.average, lots of leaves but not alot else. The Chilli and Lime prawns were delicious though- bar far the best choice. Had the baked cod for main which was nice, could have done with a bit of a flavour injection as was a bit bland even though its wrapped in Parma ham which shud be quite flavoursome. The Monkfish looked amazing but apparently just tasted ok and the Irish lamb was good. However, the Scorched Strawberries with Blackjack ice cream for dessert was out of this world. Have never tasted anything like it and would def go back just to have it again! Overall, a good dinner with good and not so good dishes (like any restaurant) and bill was not bad at around 200euro for 4 people inc. a good bottle of vino!

Louies is a refreshing addition to North Side Dining! The restaurant has it all... at a price that you could simply not believe! The Pre-Theatre Menu is fantastic value, offering great choice. In total there was Six of us in the group, four ate off the pre-theatre and everyone enjoyed what they got! Service was super fast... impressive considering only two people serving and the restaurant was pretty full! Would definitely recommend Louies and will be back for more...

Faultless! visited with the other half and were very impressed from the moment we walked through the door. Staff were very attentive and explained dishes in detail. I got the lime & chili prawns to start which were delicious, followed by the monkfish. Dish was perfectly seasoned and deceptively filling. Other half ordered fig tart tatin to start which was tasty & carmelised, followed by portk fillit which was very tasty Ordered deserts even though we were full. Scorched strawberries& blackjack icecream while he ordrered filo aple pie bother fo whiich were divine. Will definitely be back to try their early bird and or sunday lunch deals. N

Visited at 6pm with parents and in-laws - none of whom eat out very often and are therefore very hard to please! There were 6 of us - and i have to say that we were all impressed with everything. Between us we had pea and ham soup, goats cheese salad and haddock chowder for starters - all plates cleared. Mains were rib eye steak (melt in the mouth), chicken supreme (tasty and tender), lamb (beautifully cooked), salmon (cooked to perfection) and the pork (which she said was the best restaurant meal she had ever had!) followed by panacotta for dessert (all plates cleared!). Service was again excellent and although not full to capacity was nearly full by the time we left at 8pm. A great venue, excellent food and we will all definately be back again.

Returned from the 65 euro menu for 2 with wine. The inclusive pinot grigio is palatable. We had the chowder to start which was the highlight of the meal. Steak and salmon as mains which were nothing to shout home about. Desserts were decent and service was consistent. I have to score the restaurant low for atmosphere though. It's too dark and the floor tiles look like my kitchen floor...to think the owners spent 3 years doing up the place! Still though, good value meal.

Ate here with a friend last night, we opted for the early bird special including a bottle of house wine, we chose the Merlot which was very weak. I had the prawns to start which were ok a bit tasteless and over cooked, this was followed by a rib eye steak the meat very a bit tough and very fatty. My friend chose the goats cheese and the steak also. We finshed off with the apple pie and the hazelnut terrine which ended on a high note. This place is good value for money.

Came here for special offer - amazing value. 3 course meal + tea/coffee with bottle of wine for 65 euro...which is ridiculously cheap. The food was quite good - but not amazing. I had goats cheese salad but there was way too much cheese and about 5 leaves of salad, a rib eye steak which was ok and a really beautiful white chocolate hazelnut terrine. The value of the menu makes it worth going but i wouldn't be in a rush to go back. The service was quite good - the waiters were looking after alot of tables and there were only 2 of them!

Six of us from work went to Louies Bistro for lunch. The food was excellent with special mention for their apple cake with apple crumble icecream. I would have no hesitation in recommending Louies, not only for the food but excellent service and on price it won't be beaten. Will definitely return.

Unbelievable. A friend of my wife's recommended Louies so off we went earlier this month. The chowder was first class and we both had steak. It was cooked to perfection. Deserts were freshly made and the accompanying Merlot as part of the €65 special was very drinkable indeed. Our only minus point was that it needed more people to generate an atmosphere. This however is easily fixed. Go there. For the best value top class food in the city, with excellent service, it won't be beaten.

The combination of flawless food and such professional staff made our night out in Louis' one which i won't forget for a long time. I had the warm chili & lime prawns with a mango and coconut salad which was absolutely divine; light, fresh and the prawns were cooked perfectly. My Rib-eye was perfectly cooked to the proper 'french-style' of medium which is near impossible to get in this city and served with simple, old-fashioned hand cut chips. Delicious. But the desserts still maintained the high standard as I ordered Louis' Apple tart and a selection of ice-creams to taste; all homemade too. The blackjack ice-cream really left me speechless. It's a classic-style eatery and the dining room and building are very impressive. I recommend taking a walk around the place as it has very interesting little nooks and crannies that really add to it's personality. All in all, a great place and wonderful to see it on the Northside too!

Very pleasant venue with welcoming, friendly staff. The restaurant is very nicely decorated, but unfortunately it was rather empty, so there wasn’t much of an atmosphere. Food was good, but I felt that the mains were a little small. Overall though, a three course meal for two, plus a couple of drinks, came to less than €60, so I can’t really complain. Certainly much better value than many other establishments. I’d certainly return.

I eat in louies Bistro last night, we were a party of four. We opted for the menu €65 per couple which included a bottle of wine. The food and servcie was excellent. We added on dessert too and they were no disapointment, I am looking forward to returning. It was one the best meals I have had in Dublin in a while.

'As Good As It Gets" sums up our visit to Louie's bistro. The food, service, and decor is very good indeed. The menu is favorably priced and the staff are very warm and friendly. The restaurant and upstairs area is very thoughtfully decorated with no expense spared. A real treat, I hope they do well.

I would definitely recommend visiting this restaurant. The food is really good, combined with great service and fantastic prices. We had the 3 course early bird with a bottle of wine and the total bill was €65. The atmosphere is relaxing and the decor is lovely. The smoked Haddock Chowder is a must! I will definitely go back.

Four of us were out here last Friday - Very relaxed atmosphere. We ordered Goats Cheese, Chilli Prawns, Vegetable Soup and Tandoori chicken wings as starter. They were all great except the Tandoori Chicken wings (It was a replacement for Chicken and Pancetta Terrine) it was below expectation. Seafood Main courses and the Rib Eye were excellent - However the Organic Chicken was just ok. Lovely house Red (Shiraz) - Will be going back :-)

Finally, a really good quality restaraunt in this part of the city that isn't a takeaway and doesn't cost the earth! We ate here last night and had a truly excellent meal. This place is all about really good quality ingredients cooked well. My pork fillet with smoked garlic sauce and potato rosti was just a well judged, really tasty dish as was my partners noissettes of lamb. In fact it was hard to really fault anything throughout our meal. Including a tip our bill for two came out at €80 with 3 courses and a couple of glasses of wine and coffee which we felt was excellent value given the quality we had enjoyed. We'll be back with friends in the next couple of weeks to sample more of the menu. Places like this deserve support! Try it you defintely won't be disappointed!

Delicious food in Georgian surroundings. Myself and a friend went here for lunch today and it turned out to be an excellent choice. The building has been beautifully restored and it's really a bit of a surprise to find that the basement is so bright. The menu, while not extensive has plenty of choise. The presentation of the dishes was very impressive and the food was delicious. The biggest surprise though was the bill. Louie's is outstanding value for food of such quality. They have a conservatory area which would be ideal for an after dinner drink or three. If there is any justice in the world, this place will soon get the numbers of customers it deserves. I already have plans to revisit with family and work colleagues at least twice in the next few weeks.

I went there on Saturday evening and between us had two starters, two mains, two desserts, two beers, two soft drinks, and a coffee and it came to €75! Brilliant Value. The place is very elegant. The service is friendly without being pretentious, and food is high quality. I really enjoyed my night and I will definitely be recommending it to friends.

We have eaten here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner on several ocassions as we both work on the square, the restoration of this early georgian building is only superb, and a great lift to the area that has been for so long starved of a good bistro. This is the ideal place to take our clients for breakfast or lunch and to meet the local business people who seem to have taken to here just as we have. The staff are very friendly, the food is excellent and reasonably priced. High end premises combined with low end prices, happy days.

We had lunch in Louies Bistro twice since it has opened. It was delicious and the staff were really nice. We had 2 kids with us and they really enjoyed it as well. There homemade ice cream was to die for. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a very relaxing one. The decor is fab. I will be back for an evening meal in the near future. The price for lunch for 2 adults and 2 kids was under € 35.00 and was enjoyed by all. Their prices overall are very reasonable. We will definately will be back for more food.

Ive had lunch in here twice since they opened a couple of weeks ago. I work in the area and its a really welcome addition as their really is nowhere outside of pub food to eat. The restaurant is in a Georgian house on Mountjoy Square, the refurbishment has retained lots of interesting features with the redbrick walls left exposed and a walk in wine cellar restored to its former glory. So far I have tried the caesar salad which was in and around a fiver and was lovely from the lunch starters. I have had two mains the slow cooked lamb shank which was excellently prepared with the meat falling easily off the bone with the fork, and I have also had the homemade burger which did exactly what it says on the tin. The bill has come in at under twenty a head both times for lunch. I am trying the dinner menu on friday with the girlfriend, will report back.

Ate here with three friends on Saturday night. Although only open for three weeks now, they already have regulars! The room is beautifully restored and very spacious for a basement. The food is competitively priced. I chose a caesar salad to start followed by a rib eye steak. My friends had the fig tart, duck confit and a terrine followed by pork, fish of the day and monkfish. Our waiter asked if we wanted any side dishes and we ordered two but they were unnecessary as all main courses were accompanied by veg. Everything tasted great. With one dessert, one coffee and three bottles of very nice Shiraz our bill came to just over €175 for the four of us. We will definitely be back!

Advertising on this website and on the menu in restaurant suggested that tea and coffee included on early bird menu but after bill produced manager insisted it wasn't. If going I'd advised to ask the price of everything before ordering as you'd never know what might be produced at the end.

Had a very lovely meal there tonight. 2 starters, 2 mains, 1 dessert, 2 soft drinks and a bottle of wine cost less than €100, including a tip. The staff are very pleasant and friendly, very willing to chat and the attention to service and detail is excellent. I've only had one visit but i think i'll have more. Its definately worth a visit.

We went there last night as a family and had a lovely time. Staff are very proffesional and friendly. The interior is fabulous! The building is over 250 years, so it is really lovely to have a meal in a historic building of Dublin. I got a huge steak that was really nice. The elderflower panecotta for desert is a dream!

This is a little gem of a spot, hidden away on the corner of mount joy sq.It is located in a basement which is beautifully decorated, with a french style interior. I had a really enjoyable steak sandwich for lunch which was cooked to perfection. Generous portions so I felt Louie's offered good value for money. The evening menu looked really enticing so will give that a try over the next few weeks.
