Underwhelming. Although we subsequently heard that senior personnel had recently departed so that makes sense because we'd heard only good things prior to this and were disappointed with our own experience. Ordinary food, inconsistent service, atmosphere nothing special - largely underwhelming, although the toilets are nice.

Pre theatre dinner of 3 courses served in under an hour and a half without rushing us was very impressive. The large wood panels are a little daunting and dull but were the only negative to a lovely meal. I had the guinea fowl terrine while my wife enjoyed potted pork, she won that round. The pork for the main course had been changed from the menu but the waiting staff offered some suggestions and kept us entertained throughout, the replacement braised beef was very tender and moist. Desert was a chocolate fondant for her and a warm banoffee pie for me and they were both fabulous, coffees followed swiftly and the bill was surprisingly pleasant. The whole time the staff were extremely attentive and kept us in perfect time for Act 1 without any rush. Will definately be back.

Used to be a regular place for me to visit as I live nearby. However, the change in pricing strategy and the menu has ensured that will no longer be the case. It used to be extremely good value. So much so, it was a unique restaurant and what I considered a gem. Now it is simply a restaurant providing reasonable value. It is certainly not unique and has repositioned itself amongst a number of competitors. Quail with risotto was not a good dish and not very filling. Duck confit with red cabbage was very good but was 2 euros cheaper on a previous visit. The menu prior to Christmas was exceptional in simple yet flavourful bistro food. It is now trying to be more sophisticated and more expensive. This may mean more profit per visit but it will certainly mean less repeat visits per customer. I waited for 10 mins to pay my bill. The barman stood there, looking at me whilst cleaning drip trays and never bothered to take my bill or get a member of the waiting staffs attention. The room was empty and there was nobody to serve. Not a big ask to walk 10 yards and call a waiter.

went to the Bon Crubeen on paddy's day for lunch, it was busy so we were lucky to get a table. The service was very friendly. The music from the Celt next door was loud but added to the festival vibe. The pumpkin ravoli was really good but a little small, my party had the chicken supreme, makeral salad and burger, all well received. A well stocked lunch menu with a special of 2 courses for €16. The large chips with the burgers were the size of roast spuds and excellent. Our cappacinos were late but the owner apologised which was very nice but we were in no rush. A hidden gem and well worth visiting on talbot street

Popped into Le Bon Crubeen earlier in the month for a quick bite before the theatre. It has a very cool and smart interior with neat little snugs and several rooms, I was on my own and only wanted a quick bite so I sat at the bar which suited me fine. What struck me was the great value of the menu, but I had heard that the food was really good, and it was. I had the risotto of cauliflower and truffle which was truly delicious. I was very impressed with the staff and the food, but the value is great in the middle of a recession.

I have been a regular visitor to Le Bon Crubeen and have always found the food exceptional and good value for money. Alas, those enjoyable experiences seem to be a distant memory based on my visit today, The 8 Eur paninni options have been droppped from the menu and instead replaced with gourmet sandwichs for 10.50. Luckily my favourite main of Chicken Supreme remains on the menu so I opted for this. We had to wait over 30 mins to receive our food and this is in a half empty restaurant at the tail end of lunch service. I was expecting crispy tender chicken on a bed of creamy mash and instead got a lump of flavourless chicken breast with a handful of cubed potatoes and an over powering mustard pepper sauce and a few token tomatoes. It was the most disappointing meal that I have received in a very long time and was not worth the 12.5 Eur that it cost me. I noticed that the usual staff were not there so one wonders if the head chef and management are still working here.

This posh and elegant restaurant is a bit of a paradox. From the outside, the place looks more like a pub or cafe. Inside, the restaurant is more like a palace with a delectable menu of French style food. The Pork Rillette was superb.

I just read all the previous reviews and have to say I agree more with the negative ones more than the positive, I am left wondering if this restaurant was located in a more affable part of Dublin than Talbot St would it have closed long ago? It seems in the culinary wasteland of the north inner city people are only too happy to eat in a place appearing to be an epicurean delight. Maybe I sound a bit harsh but I just spent a considerable amount of money there and I got nothing resembling value for money. In one previous review someone lamented being seated near the door rather then in the back room, well, we were located in the aforementioned back room, next to the side door into the hotel and we baked for the entire night. It would seen the restaurant has trouble regulating their heating! We started with the crab beignet and the Caesar salad. The crab was tiny, barely noticeable on the huge plate it arrived on, I normally wouldn't mention something like this only for the fact that my fellow diner's Caesar salad was enormous, practically dripping out of the bowl! I was finished my crab, which quiet frankly tasted nothing like crab (is it supposed to have a smoked flavour?) but my dining partner spent at least another 10 minutes on his salad! Strangely our side order for our main course arrived with the starters, we sent it back and asked for it to be brought with the main. To the previous commentator who bemoaned the lack of turkey and ham, be grateful! It seemed as though it had been heated and cooled multiple times and was accompanied with what we think was a disk of stuffing. My halibut arrived covered in what I presume was foam when it left the kitchen but was a yucky drizzle of a substance resembling spit. A pity the chef didn't opt for a sauce rather than the foam because the dish was very dry without it. Our server promptly left our main courses with no sign of the aforementioned chips, after much gesturing and waving we managed to get the attention of our original waiter and asked for the side dish.

Our 1st visit and really looking forward to our meal here after reading all the rave reviews. 1st impressions very good, nice atmosphere and music. To start I ordered the Cesar salad and Mr. Boop opted for the scallops. Salad v tasty, lovely sauce, not too fishy as sometimes can be and a good size portion. Mr. Boop not so lucky as although the scallops lovely, there were only 2 and I think one of the most expensive starters on menu. Either cut the price or double what you get in my opinion. Really looking forward to my main meal of Rib eye and Mr.Boop to the Shank of lamb. Asked for medium to well, no blood. The steak looked yummy when it arrived but when cut into was actually rare and the chips dark brown and totally overdone and not really edible. Decided to just ignore the blood and eat, but have to say it was so chewy I could not even swallow it. Mr.Boops shank however was delicious. I would never put up a bad comment without 1st telling the Manager, so I did this and he was totally professional and mannerly and fully of apologies and went to kitchen to speak to chef. (just what I would expect from a Manager) Full marks. He also came back with feedback which I appreciated. We stayed on for a couple of drinks and when we received the bill, the 2 courses which we had mentioned had been removed and our round of drinks was on the house. And just for the fact that he listened to us and took our views seriously I will now return for a 2nd visit and put it down to just bad luck and I'm sure next time it will be a rave review.

For some time now I’ve read review after review raving about how good Le Bon Crubeen is. Sometimes it’s disappointing when the reality doesn’t live up to the hype but I can happily say that wasn’t the case. Le Bon Crubeen surpassed my expectations and I will DEFINITELY be back again. In the centre of Talbot St, it’s not your usual Dublin restaurant location but being a 5 minute walk from Connolly Train Station it makes it a good starting point for a night out in the city. It’s best described as warm, inviting bar/restaurant where you’ll feel right at home if you are dressed up or having a relaxed casual dinner – it strikes the balance perfectly. Now for the best bit, the food! You need time with this menu because there are so many tempting options you’ll be debating which one to choose. The beetroot cured salmon was light, refreshing and very tasty perfect for a healthy January meal however I did have order envy over the poached egg over black pudding which was just delicious and devilish. The cod on a bed of spinach with fondant potato was incredible, one of the best pieces of cod I’ve ever eaten it literally fell off the skin and melted in my mouth. The side order of duck fat chips are the best cross over between a roast potato and chip that I’ve experience...a meal in its self. For steak lovers I can confidently say that the 10oz rib eye won’t let you down. My favourite surprise of the night was the offering of tea/coffee with petit fours for €5.95 I was expecting a small biscuit/cake to come with my coffee but I was impressed when I received an assiette of biscotti, cake and shortbread...amazing value. A meal for three, starters, mains, desserts, tea/coffee and a bottle of Prosecco came to €128, excellent value for such a high quality meal in comfortable surroundings. I loved the relaxed atmosphere, the waiters were so attentive and the food is reason enough for me to return again.

I ate here with by partner. Food is AMAZING!!!! i picked it as it always came up on menupages as being a very good restaurant and reasonably priced. The food is outstanding, the service is also amazing and the atmosphere is lovely. I have no complaints really, except that there is a big billboard outsiade saying cheap French food. Now, its not exhorbitant prices at all, however, our bill for two of us still came to €130 for the meal. I would say thats average considering the standard of food, it is fantastic food, but not cheap by any means whatsoever. If you are looking for a night out, its lovely.

Brought my bf here for dinner as really enjoyed my last visit and it's close to our home. For starters we shared the crab dish. It was quite unusual, it had a crab filling but the outstide was thin threads of crispy noodle or something. Very tasty. For mains I had the lemon and thyme scented chicken & chickpea salad and my bf had the cod. Both yum. My salad was full of flavour and very fresh, as like the last time. My bf had some baby leek on his plate so I took that but there was a little bit of grit in it. I didn't mind as it's a gritty veg but I said it to the head waiter anyways as an FYI. He was really nice about it and didn't charge for our (very delicious) dessert of warm brownie with ice-cream. Had had a gorgeous bottle of red wine with dinner so very content when I left. Will be back!

Was there last week and i have to say its the best Steak and Chips with the lovley peppersauce! After we had the food we brought our drinks to the pub ( The Celt) right beside it - through the back door. Service was good and friendly. Will come back again for night out.

What an excellent surprise to find such a great place to eat in Dublin City. The food was fantastic. We had chicken and fish and they were cooked to perfection, even though my partner would have liked a bit more on the plate. The waiter was friendly and professional and we had a laugh. The athmosphere was great and all the other diners seem to be as relaxed as us, just enjoying the meal. The value is exceptional and we will definitely be back in the very near future.

Went out for a meal here with friends on a Saturday night. Luckily I had booked as the place was packed. The food was excellent. Everyone at the table agreed. For starterI had dips and bread. All the dips were delish. I had the swordfish for main which was excellent, with a very tasty salsa verde. I had a cheese plate for dessert which they offer for one or two people. The steak and medallions were also had at the table, each one thought their dish was nicer than the other. The creme brulee got excellent reviews. It was a great place to bring a group as everyone was impressed and we would all go back again. The services was faultless, the waiters managed to get that very thin line of being professional and friendly all at the same time. You are missing out if you have not tried this place yet.

My boyfriend and i ate here last Tuesday evening. The place was wedged and we could only get seats at the bar. We didn't mind this - it just goes to show how popular it is. So be sure to book in advance if you want a proper table! We shared a starter of sourdough bread with homemade dips - delicious!! I had the goats cheese and veg tart for main, with salad leaves. It was really lovely but i thought it could have done with more goats cheese. My boyfriend had the taglietelle, which he said was really tastey. They offer some great wines by the glass to go with your meal. Love this restaurant and i'm planning my return visit already.

Every time I go to this restaurant I'm reminded of why I love it. The food was wonderful. Service was perfect. Really helpful staff but also very unobtrusive. I had the duck pancakes, fillet steak and brownies. Each course was nicer than the one before. Very reasonable meal considering the whole experience. I will certainly be back.

Came here with 3 work mate for dinner and was impressed by the service of this restaurant. Clearly has an excellent reputation as anyone who didn't have a reservation had to wait....not a common thing on a Tuesday evening! Had the chicken salad with spinach and chickpeas-the charcoaled meat was delish! The others had the steak which was quite sizable and each cooked to perfection. Chocolate brownies and cheesecake finished off the evening and left us with full and happy bellies. Service was flawless. A definite recommendation!

Dropped in here for a meal on Saturday last. Enjoyed it the last visit so we decided it was worth another visit and we were not wrong. It was very busy and we hadn't booked, but we were offered a place at the counter, or in the pub attached which we accepted. The staff were excellent and the food was the same. I had Guinea fowl with lentils, beautiful. The other main was skate with prawn and crab butter, amazing, and we had one portion of oysters to start. Over all it was a great meal and the atmosphere was very good, topped off with few coffees, a reasonable bill and a couple of pints. It's great to get good food at reasonable prices in the city center, at last. We enjoyed the pub atmosphere but if you prefer a restaurant atmosphere, book in advance and you won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back.

Four of us ate here for the first time last Sunday night. It was quite busy with a good atmosphere. The seating is casual more akin to a pub than a restaurant. We all had starters which were first class particularly the chowder and the duck filled crepes. The mains were quite good. Bangers and mash and chicken salad were enjoyed in particular. I had sirloin steak which was cooked just as I had requested. Unfortunately the steak was accompanied by truly awful french fries. Surely it wouldn't be too difficult to prepare some home made chips from real potatoes. We had the house merlot and an unoaked chardonnay that were very good and reasonably priced. Desserts were good although there were not enough crakers for the cheeseboard. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. All in all we would definitely return to Le Bon Crubeen but steer clear of the chips

This was my first visit to Le Bon Crubeen. It looks lovely and a bit out of place at this end of Talbot Street. The prices were really quite good especially for the main courses. We had booked a table as we were a party of four and it was Saturday night. Unfortunately we were seated in an anteroom off the main dining area and it was lacking in atmosphere. The food was good but I ordered quail to start and I think it could have been cooked a little more. It was a bit pale. The others had chowder and a selection of breads and dips. For our mains we had fish and chips, confit of duck and striploin steak. The steak looked unbelievably good and I was sorry I ordered the duck. We had a bottle of prosecco on arrival and two bottles of wine between us during the course of our meal. It was excellent value. Out total bill was €200 including a tip. Will be back.

We have been meaning to visit Le Bon Crubeen for ages and finally got to try it yesterday and were not disappointed. It has been long time since I have had difficulty choosing from a menu, everything sounded delicious and at such reasonable prices. I shared the lobster bisque, which was thoughtfully brought out in two seperate bowls. This saved the usual race that occurs when we share something, to ensure neither of us gets more than the other. Ths bisque was very moreish as was the crunchy sourdough toast served with it. A great start to the meal. I then followed with the skate, served with brown shrimp and crab butter sauce, wilted spinach and a champ croquete - totally faultless, fish was cooked and seasoned perfectly. My friend had the confit leg of rabbit, gnocchi, asparagus and morel sauce. It was really eleganty done, light yet full of flaour and the rabbit was moist and falling off the bone. Dessert didn't disappoint either, a bread and butter pudding that had crunchy almost butterscotchy sides and a soft custardy middle. We really really loved our experience at Le Bon Crubeen, service was excellent, friendly, thoughtful and not overbearing. It has value for money without comprimising on either quality or creativity.... no wonder you can't get a table on a saturday night!!! Our meal including a bottle of house wine, a sparkling water and a macchiato came to 69.10e, worth every cent :)

My boyfriend and I absolutely LOVED this place. We went for my birthday and the experience was fantastic. The service was amazing, they were all so helpful and friendly. As for the food, well I have no bad words to say. The choice was great. I got swordfish for my main and it was the biggest portion of fish I have ever been served and was beautiful. We did not have one complaint. It is great value and there is a great atmosphere and the food is beautiful. I guess if I had to say anything, I wouldn't call the menu a french one but I say that at a stretch for a bad point. We will be regulars here for any occasion in the future!

Great food but disappointed with the ambience - was expecting a very traditional style of French setting and ambience but it was all very trendy minimalist - wooden floors, marble topped tables, funky music, bright lighting etc. The food was excellent however and could not be faulted. A few candles and cosier atmosphere would perfect the setting. Service was mixed - for the most part very good with one male member of staff being extremely helpful and friendly...think our main waitress may have been a trainee as she was a little scatty!

Had high hopes having read the many good reviews both here and elsewhere, however our experience failed to match those expectations. We (a party of four) were seated in a small room off to the side of the main dining room which was very warm, with the table situated very close together, which was somewhat uncomfortable. Service was nothing special, though reasonably quick - it lacked any warmth or interaction. The food itself was indeed good, but not outstanding, and not as good as many other Dublin restaurants of similar price and reputation. It was certainly worth a visit, but I think Le Bon Crubeen has an over-hyped reputation considering what we received on the night.

This is our third visit here in a month, such is the impression they have made upon us. This occasion, it was birthday celebration time and we went for their Grilled Swordfish and Confit Leg of Rabbit from the Le Bon Fare menu. A word of note though, The Rabbit comes with Gnocchi which are small dumplings made from potato, semolina, or flour. They are an acquired taste and we had to send the dish back straight away; a freshly prepared one was returned on a base of mash & gravy instead, or you could have had 'Bunny & Chips' too I guess. Both dinners were superb and thanks to the manager who attended to our Gnocchi dilemma. The Chateau Fontareche is a lovely smooth red wine alongside which also complimented my dessert cheese plate while my wife just had to have the Pistachio and Belgium Chocolate Brownie. As well as the Ballymaloe relish with the cheeses were some diced prunes which were surprisingly nice on the crackers too. Service, atmosphere and value for money are the best ingredients here !

Tres Bon Very friendly service. Good cafe style food, well cooked and with several vegatarian options. I had swordfish which can be tasteless if not correctly cooked but this was excellant. Short but well priced wine list. We had 3 courses each plus coffee for €25/head and wine at €21 - 28/bottle made it all very good value.

Popped in for dinner after the matinee show of Pymalion at the Abbey theatre on Saturday (btw, well worth seeing before the run ends). We had a table booked for 5pm, and it was busy, the head waiter turned away several groups from the door due to bookings etc. Firstly we ordered a bottle of wine and that was decent for a house white. The first course can out very quickly, we put this down to the order – chowder for me and soup for my wife. Obviously these would be ready to go. We took our time, and they were very good, lots of smoked haddock in my chowder, and great brown bread. However the minute the plates were lifted the main course arrived – this was too quick for us, and it was a pity as the food again was very. I had the hake and my wife had the bangers and mash. We had coffees afterwards and weren’t rushed at all. The staff were very friendly and recommended items from the menu and had a good understanding of the food. I really liked this place despite the food being brought so quickly, and I will return. Pretty good value too!

I've been to this place a couple of times at lunch time and I cannot praise it enough. It gets very busy for lunch so booking is a must but it's well worth it. The food is fantastic and very reasonable prices and all the staff are consistently friendly and helpful....If you are anywhere near here at lunchtime drop in ..It's a place I'll happily go out of my way to visit.

Two of us decided to stop in for an early supper without a booking on the recommendation of a colleague. We chose to sit at the bar. The service was fantastic. We had the attention of a server as well as the bartender. Both were quite knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list. Our meal was excellent and very reasonably priced. We will return.

Went here for a quick bite to eat with some friends. We didn’t book however and there were no tables free, however, the staff said we could sit at the bar if that suited us. The service was excellent, and the food was really good. I will definitly be back to try the other items on the menu. And it is so reasonable with all mains between €10-€15. The atmosphere was great, and the place lovely. Definitely recommend this place!

I had heard so much about this place and was delighted to actually go. Top restauran! The staff were eager to get us seated, even though they were really busy! We sat and waited in the bar until a table was ready. The atmosphere was relaxed and quite casual. The food was very reasonable in price, extremely tasty and the staff are great! Id definitely dcome back here!

My partner and myself went in for dinner on a Monday night. The waitress was welcoming and gave us a nice table. The mains and starters were well below the standards I was expecting, considering all the publicity and the good reviews. However the bread and butter pudding we had for dessert was delicious. One funny thing though, we were served by 7 different people. On a Monday night it seems like a lot of staff! The place was pretty much empty at the time and it felt quite impersonal. Won't be rushing back but maybe worth a visit on busier nights.

Any restauranteur trying to cut their mustard in Dublin should pay Bon Crubeen a visit to see how a great value establishment should be run. 'Great value' should not suggest that the food or service was anything but excellent. The lamb sweetbreads I choose for a mains was the best meal out I have had in years.

Brought my mother here during the week for lunch. Initial appearance gave me the impression it was a cosy bar. We were promptly shown to our table by a friendly waitress. I had the steak, it was perfectly cooked, my mother had the Kerry Lamb, she could'nt fault it at all. Great experence, will dine here again! Highly recommended.

I come to this restaurant on a regular basis, it is a hidden city centre gem that I would recommend to anyone. Despite being down the dodgy end of Talbot St and not very noticeable, the food is fantastic and the value is almost worryingly good. I have had the steak on most visits, which must be the best steak you can get for €12.50. The fish of the day is generally guaranteed to be good also. The starters and the desserts aren't quite as cheap as the mains for what you get, but are worth the extra money if you're looking for a three-course meal. Otherwise, this is a fantastic spot to pop into for a dinner that won't break the bank, although its increasing popularity means booking is usually essential.

I come here about twice a month with my husband. It's our favorite restaurant in Dublin (the one restaurant we can always agree on!) and we've never had a bad meal here. The service is fantastic and the food is superb at an excellent value. I usually get the salmon cakes as a starter and my husband loves the chowder. The desserts are lovely as are the house wines. The pub next door is great fun as well. The area itself is a bit dodgy but the food is well worth it!

I ate here before a visit to the o2 on a Wednesday evening .The restaurant itself is not much to look at and it has the feel of a pub doing food more than a fully-fledged restaurant. However, our experience was very impressive. I had Quail Rillette which was superb, followed by Pork Mignon which was also very good. IThe service was excellent, we were served by a girl who was very friendly and helpful. The food prices are exceptional, which allowed our budget to include more wine, which is always good. Great to see somewhere new doing great food so cheaply. Will definitely be back Well done...

After all the good reviews I was really looking forward to my meal here. The menu is limited but appears as good value. It was early evening but had a steady flow of people, but it's more like an upmarket cafe than a restaurant, and there is something really lacking in atmosphere here. I had the goats cheese salad, and was given the end cut of the roll of cheese with the skin on which was unedible. It was served with oodles of rocket salad - not in season and hard and chewy to eat. When I said this to the waiter, he just shrugged his shoulder and walked away. My friend had the lamb shank, served luke warm with hardly any mash. When she asked for a little more, we were given a full side order and charged another €3 for it. Overall, they didn't really care what we thought and had a real 'not my problem' attitude. Very disappointing. Won't be going back and wouldn't recommend it.

Went there (our second time) for my birthday and it was just as good as the first time. It has fab food for fab prices. I went for the dips & sourdough bread starter and he went for the quail & foie gras tarrine they were both delish. For mains I went for the rainbow trout and he went for the chicken stuffed with black pudding and potato gratin. We shared the dessert which was creme brulee. Would recommend it to anyone. Already looking forward to going back.

Delicious! I love this restaurant! Every franchise has such character and happy service. The food and service is fast. Every dish I try here has the same high quality, great taste, and incredible combination of flavours. I would recommend this place to everyone.
Response:
What do you mean by franchise, are there more branches of this restaurant?

I ate here on Saturday afternoon with a few friends and thoroughly enjoyed it. Steak was super and at 12.50 most surprisingly so! Fishcakes had plenty of Salmon in them though maybe they could have been seasoned a little better. I forced myself to have a tiramisu, which to be honest was a bit on the bland side but not unpleasant. Service was friendly and efficient throughout and though we were there for 3 hours we never felt rushed. The menu is short and covers the bases though if you, like me, are under the impression that this is a French restaurant it really isn't unless 'frites' and 'foie gras' as a component of a starter is enough to make a restaurant French. Brilliant to see another decent eaterie on this side of town.

I was in this restaurant tonight for dinner and found it was a very nice place with a nice selection of drinks and some great house-wines (I sampled two lovely reds) but it was terribly let down by the food. I had a seafood chowder to start which was too thin and full of vegetables. I couldn't tell at first if it was shell-fish or fish so I looked closely to find that there was only one (no exaggeration) piece of fish in it! Enough extra salt and pepper made it edible. Then the main, a €12.50 8oz sirloin steak is never going to be fabulous but I tried to keep an open mind. When I asked for it Very rare and the waitress said 'would you like it blue' I was impressed and said 'yes'. Of course it came out somewhere between medium-rare and rare (no surprise there as Irish restaurants don't seem to understand that rare implies a cold centre) but it certainly was a good cut of meat. Unfortunately it was terribly let down by being smothered in a sweat, nearly translucent 'pepper sauce' and served on a cold plate. 'No', Not the plate! The centre of the steak is what should be cold!! I prefer my fries skinny so no complaints there and a wonderful apple crumble for desert. I'll go back for the house Cabernet Sauvignon alone!

Came here for an early dinner for one on Saturday night - not for the first time. Friendly service - they immediately found me a table despite it being reasonably busy, pleasant enough place though the music, while not bad, is always a bit loud for my taste. Had the fishcakes as a starter and they were excellent. Hake as a main - cooked to perfection, the - tasty - tomato-based sauce perhaps hot temperature-wise . A very generous cheese plate (a steal at EUR 7.50) rounded the whole thing off. Starter, main, cheese plate and two glasses of reasonable Sauvignon Blanc left me with change out of EUR 40. There's a good meal and great value to be had here, certainly not my last visit.

Will definately be returning here. The restaurant appeared to be fully booked. The service was excellent, the staff very attentive and always watching to make sure you have everything you need without being intrusive. The food was nicely presented and so tasty. I had the quail for starter and lamb shank for main, both of which blew me away for value and flavour. I can still taste the mash and jus that came with the lamb! My partner had mentioned it was my birthday when booking weeks earlier but thought nothing more of it until what seemed to be the entire floor staff presented me with a beautiful dessert with lit candle and sang Happy Birthday at our table. This is what dining should be like...this place just shows that you dont have to pay a fortune to get quality. We left Le Bon Crubeen very happy customers.

Had wanted to eat her since seeing the Paolo Tuillis review. Had a pre christmas lunch. Table was situated at the door so it was very cold as and when people came through it, not a big problem. It was a fully booked restaurant, as it always seems to be The food was delicious and great value. Will definitley go back to try out the dinner menu

Stunning steak, frites with a very flavoursome jus, for €12.50. Loved the salad with it. Other half raved about the lamb shank and mash. Both of us ordered the Baileys bread and butter pudding, as there was no way we'd share! Exemplary service - you would never have to ask for anything - it just arrives - fork, more water - whatever - it appears as if by magic. Only snag was getting blasted by freezing air each time the door opened. Love this place.

Four of us ate here on Saturday and it was fab! Food was deliicous for starters the quail was lovely the foie gras not too overpowering, also good terrine balanced by a tastey celerac and the tartlet was yum only disappointment was the fishcakes tasted more of bread than fish probably wouldnt order again. Mains were also great between us we had the duck, sausage and mash lamb and the hake everyone was delighted with their choice and no complaints portions were also more than enough also got a side order of roast potatoes which we fought over they were so nice! no room for dessert and service was a little rushed at the beginning but settled down, over all a wonderful experience and so reasonable we will be back!

Went for lunch at Le Bon Crubeen, as it was coming up to Christmas, the restaurant was completely full at 12:00pm, but the staff was very accommodating and found us a seat in the attached pub next door (the Celt). The lunch menu was very extensive. Both myself and my lunch date had paninis which were delicious and substanital. The sandwiches were accompanied by crisps and a small side salad. I'm looking forward to returning especially because of the wonderful staff and good value.

Very impressed with this restaurant. The atmosphere was great, and the food and service couldn't be faulted. We had the hake and the cod, both perfectly cooked, the bread and butter pudding is worth another visit on its own! The chips were a bit cold coming out, and the waitress forgot to bring a couple of things we had asked for but otherwise will definately be back! Perfect location for a midweek dinner at a great price

The best thing about the recession is the amount of cheap eats that have appeared around the city and this is easilly the best one around. The problem is that word has gotten out and it's not always easy to get a table if you havent booked. I had the terrine with cornichons a simple treat that I picked up in France years ago and cant understand why more restaurants dont copy this simple starter recipe. I had the duck for mains which was simply delicious but my friend plumpted for Hake which I know that I'll be having on my next visit

Made a booking for pre-theatre meal at this restaurant which was recommended to me. On entry at 5pm a warm welcome was made and we were asked to note that there was a party booking for 7.30 but this did not present a problem. My starter was Quail, nicely done and tasty and herself had a warming soup. Mains were duck for me and hake for my lady, all nicely dressed and tasty. Chips were reminiscent of McD's, would have preferred 10/12 chunky fries. House Chilean red was well priced, nice temperature and body. dessert was apple crumble, nice she said while my coffee measure was minuscule, I had to ask for another shot for which I was charged. The international mix of staff lent a nice atmosphere and I had to switch from French to Spanish and Italian to converse, good practice. I will be back, all in all good value.

I was totally wowed by this place! We both ordered the steak which was succulent and well seasoned. The accompanying salad was crunchy and fresh and the french fries were plentiful and crisp. We followed up with the cheese board for one person which was HUGE and delicious and washed it all down with lots of the house wines. All that for under 35 quid each! I thought to myself, somethings got to give!? But the service was unfailingly attentive and the restrooms provided fresh flannel towels for all customers. What a nice touch! Love love LOVE it here. Will definitely return.

Le Bon Crubeen was more pub grub than I had expected but that was my own poor research. The atmosphere was good as was the service. Salmon fish cakes were a tasty starter though the leek and goats cheese tart was actually really good. My steak was well done rather than the requested medium rare but the meat was quite tasty though the peppercorn jus was a little salty. The venison was a touch overcooked but again, the meat was tasty. All in all, for pub grub they do a decent job.

Read on the paper recently that Le Bon recently won 'best casual dining restaurant' in Ireland in one of the restaurant industry mags. Having been there three times in last 12 months I think it is well deserved. 8 of us went there for Christmas party earlier this week and were well looked after. The bar is warm, friendly and spacious comfortable and better than most facilities for pre-dinner drinks. Service at bar and tables was very good. All three courses were enjoyable. The deep fired brie starter was good but not exceptional. Being a mushroom fan, I found the mushroom lasagne unusual and fabulous (a vegetarian option). A shared side order of chips was fine but personally I prefer chunky style to Mcdonalds style. Dessert gets full marks for innovative christmas pudding creme brulee - two favourites in one although found the pud a bit rich in this particular mix. Best was the main; least favourite was the petit fours - they were hardly needed after a good meal but were quite bland. Price was very good. Its billed as casual dining but the experience is far superior than this suggests.

One of the nicest restaurants I have ever been to. The food is incredible and staff are so nice! I went here with my work for our Christmas party and we had a three course meal. I had the brie to start which was so lovely. I had the chicken supreme with potatoes, and the potoatoes were delicious. For dessert I had the most amazing thing ever. It was christmas pudding creme brulee, a wonderful combination. We were welcome for the entire evening and the atmosphere was great. I have been here before and the food was incredibel then too. I would really recommend this place, I look forward to the food here.

I love this place I have been three times and each time the food has topped the previous visit. Most recently we were in a rush to get to the Abbey theatre, we had not made a reservation as it was a last minute decision to eat in town due to snow! We were seated at the high counter opposite the bar, fine for a quick bite, and when we told the manager about the theatre plans he checked what we had ordered before assuring us we would make it - and we did. super fast service for the venison with swede puree, totally delicious and just what you want on a freezing cold winter's evening. also really great value. Kudos to the guy running the show there he is exceptional - friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. Definitely make a visit, it's great for pre-theatre, but do yourself and them a favour and make a booking it's always jammed lately!

Very nice restaurant. Nice decor and atmosphere. Myself and my dining partner both went for the 8oz peppered steak. Asked for them to be medium cooked and that's exactly how they were done. Having had the first few bites the waitress asked if the steaks were cooked to our satisfaction. This is a nice touch and they are obviously confident that the chef has done what he was asked to do. Both had apple pie for desert which was excellent. Will definitely revisit. Almost forgot to add that these main courses were very reasonably priced at a mere €12.50 each.

Had lunch here today and already I cannot wait to return. Everything was faultless, from the staff (who were attentive, friendly and super efficient) to the food (I had the chowder which was delicious and my friend had the spicy beef panini which was also fab) to the atmosphere (cosy and buzzing to the perfect level). Will be back for dinner very soon.

We were here on Friday evening for a bite to eat and as usual it was very good. The only problem is the front door - each time it opens - they should have an external door. Will probably return.

Great place for a great meal. Was there for dinner and had the compfurt chicken, it was divine. my only critic would be that the veggies where a little too cold for my liking, but the chicken was cooked to perfection and with a bree stuffing it went down a treat. we had two main courses and a bottle of white wine for less than 50 squids, which i found a great price for a restaurant in town at 8pm friday... Would go there again...

Visited this restaurant last Tuesday night - great buzz in the place, when we got there, but we were told (and we hadnt made reservations) that we would have to sit in an ante room off the main restaurant it was fine but would definitely recommend reservations, the food was fab we shared a starter - Pate and also then had a steak each it was delicious, had a few gls of house wine, the bill came to 27 euros each !! the staff are very friendly and courteous. This restaurant has also just won In Dublin best restaurant so will have to make sure to go back again, dont let the fact that it is technically north of the river put you off its a great find.
Response:
People living north of the Liffey occassionally eat too you know - even out in restaurants that have cutlery and plates instead of cartons. What a snob!

At here on a cold Sunday night and the place was jammed. We had fish cakes and chowder to start. The chowder was delicious - not too creamy and had plenty of chunks of fish. The fish cakes were ok. They weren't as crisp as I was expecting and had more potato than fish but tasty nonetheless. We had skate and lamb shanks for mains. 2 fine pieces of skate arrived on my plate although there was a little too much butter sauce for me. The fondant potato was a little dry. The lamb shank was falling off the bone, and came with a beautiful gravy and mashed potato. 2 starters/mains and 1 glass of wine came to just over €40 which was great value. Altough we were sitting in a small room off the main dining area, service was very attentive.

I was first here in june, and when I went back to Ireland I just had to get back to this absolutely fantastic restaurant! Service was great, atmosphere were there plenty of and the food was orgasmic! The mango cheesecake was to die for! Going back to Ireland after x-mas and will take the opportunity to go back to this lovely restaurant. Keep up the good work! / Amanda from Sweden

Ate here a few weeks back. Overall we had a good night, I had a pate type starter and gammon and potato for main. The main was disappointing the gammon was fine but the pototao was old and had been reheated too many times. The service was efficient and friendly and this place has a brilliant atmosphere!, I will definitely give it another go

Went to Bon Crubeen with friends, there was a great atmosphere it sems to always be busy! Service was efficient. We were seated in a corner table which was right beside the door to the bar next door so there was a lot of traffic in and out. I could not fault the food, it was fabulous and such good value! I had the salmon and langoustine with spinach and potatoes - it was really tasty. My friend had salmon cakes great sized starter and my other friend had mushroom pasta which looked amazing. Everyone was delighted. We decided to have dessert and the brownie was delicious crunchy on the outside gooey in the middle with fabulous ice cream.. Lovely glass of white wine. All in all a perfect meal and great value.

This place is the real thing. A friendly place with fabulous food for half nothing and helpful staff who really know how to help you relax and enjoy your meal. I wanted to put the rare steak in my pocket and bring it round to all the other restaurants in Dublin so I could show their chefs how it should be done. I got a gorgeous duck pate to start, full of rich buttery flavour and a nice little montepulciano by the glass. Herself was delighted with her sauvignon blanc, and her crab starter had hidden depths. I couldn't fault the place. I wouldn't want to. In terms of value of money this is simply the best restaurant in Dublin. End of story.

I absolutely adore this restaurant. It's not at all pretentious or overpriced (note the Talbot Street address - because of that it automatically deters certain types!) and is a genuinely enjoyable experience. Great atmosphere and a beautiful space. My boyfriend and I had the Crab Brulee (absolutely delicious) and both of us had the Irish Sirloin (also just wonderful). We split the Apple Crumble (or something like it - Apple & Peach Crumble maybe? I just remember it had apple because I was excited about the 'in-season' desert). This was certainly one of the best value dinners I've ever had in Dublin - it came to around 45 euro for all of that and a glass of great wine. I'm very happy that they won the 'Best Casual Restaurant' for 2010 and will certainly be coming back here all the time - in fact, am making a reservation for later in the week when family is in town to visit! Don't miss out on this place, a great addition to Dublin 1!
Response:
It's definitely not worth a 5 star rating... 3 at a push!

Visited Le Bon Crubeen with my boyfriend as a bit of a Thursday night treat - I'd been for lunch before and quite liked it. We didn't have a reservation, but were told there should be a table soon and could wait at the bar, which we were happy to do as lovely atmosphere. BUT, then we were told very quickly there was a table in smaller 'dining room' so we went there and my face dropped, but we were led to believe it was temporary fix until table in main was free. It's tiny, dingy, no atmosphere. Atmosphere is half the experience (especially when you're out as a couple, not a group who might like a private room) - in this case we may as well been eating at a greasy spoon. I asked TWICE had a table became free to two different waiters and to be honest I don't even think they checked. Food was average, but my opinion is a little coloured by the really rubbish room. You're paying the same bill, without the experience of a nice atmosphere. For all the extra people they can accommodate I don't think they're doing themselves favours - because I will never go back (didn't even want to stay for dessert, coffee, or another drink), I'll never tell my friends to go there and now I've just wrote my first bad review on menupages!

The restaurant is tiny but so romantic. I have tried goat's cheese salad - delicious, their salmon was very good too, all well presented. Prices are a little high, but it was worth it. Very nice atmosphere, however quite empty during the day. It gets busier in the evening.

After reading positive reviews on Menupages I was really looking forward to trying this much lauded restaurant. Unfortunately, our visit on Saturday afternoon was an extreme disappointment. My girlfriend and I went for lunch at around half one and were faced with a pretty empty restaurant. The service was abysmal to say the least and it ruined our entire dining experience. We were greeted politely but without enthusiasm and were seated by a staff member who asked us what we would like for drinks (before proffering a Wine List which I had to request). I ordered a Blue Cheese salad for starter and Lamb for main while my girlfriend asked had the Crab Brulée for a starter and the Quiche Lorraine for main course. The food was nice without being anything stunning. In particular the Quick Lorraine looked overcooked (reheated?) and all the ham was at the bottom so it was basically an omelette with a bit of ham (this was bought to the attention of a passing waiter without any satisfaction). My salad and lamb were both very tasty and portion generous. The main cause of our discontent was the EXTREMELY poor service. It was very quiet and yet we were still neglected - not once checked upon, I had to request a second glass of wine by going to the bar myself. It was actually intimidating as we felt guilty for being customers such was the seemingly disdain the servers had for being there. They never communicated and it seemed as though there had been a huge staff row just before we arrived. In a nutshell; food was good, good value but the service and resultant atmosphere was so off putting I wouldn't recommend it

Went to Le Bon Crubeen for lunch to avail of their excellent daily specials. Even in these post celtic tiger days, where good quality food at reasobale prices is becoming easier to find, Le Bon Crubeen stands out. Its not in the nicest of areas and it is essentially a pub but the food and service is top notch and far far better than the prices would suggest. I had the Coq au Vin and it was perfect. Beautifully cooked chicken, flavoursome chunks of bacon and a delicious delicate red wine sauce. Portions are generous, food is superb, service is attentive without being intrusive and the bill always raises a few eyebrows, you really feel like you should be paying more. Excellent restaurant, could not recommend enough.

We didn't have a reservation but they gave us a table that they had to have back in an hour and 15 minutes, which was more than enough time, as service was very fast. We’d never been to this Restaurant before and on opening the menu we were surprised how very reasonable the Main courses were. I had the Lemon & Thyme Grilled Chicken Salad With Spinach, Chick Peas And Spiced Yoghurt Dressing it was really good, my husband had steak which he said was very good and cooked perfectly. It came with fries but he asked if he could get mash instead and it was no problem. I noticed the table next to us got Fries, if your a real fan of fries you'd be happy with the amount they give you. We didn't have starters but we had dessert. My husband had Crème Brule which he said was good and I had the Baileys Bread and Butter pudding which I'll say is up there with the best I've ever had. We had coffee which was also really good. I found it great value for money and I will go back again.

I visited this restaurant on a saturday night and the place was packed. We got a table in the small room whitout great atmosphere but it was secluded so perfect for anyone wanting a private table. However my friends didn't mind so we settled and ordered food and wine. We all had the sirloin steaks with the fries and washed it down with a great bottle of St Emilio wine. I was disappointed because last time i ordered the steak it was much better than this evening. The wine on te other hand was sublime. We were all stuffed so no one ordered any dessert. Overall it was good value but the wine was a bit expensive.

Excellent Value! I went here at 8pm last Friday, had a booking, and the place was definitely busy. We had a table just to the left of the door by the window, which was nice. For starter I had potato and leek soup, and my boyfriend had the fried brie. Both were good. We had a bottle of house red, which was fine except they brought us unmatching wine glasses (one smaller!). For main I had the bangers and mash which was excellent - 2 large-ish sausages and tasty mash. My boyfriend had the 8oz steak which was cooked well but unfortunately just comes with chips and no gravy - he ended up using the sauce from my plate. Otherwise it was dry. The creme brulee is up to scratch - but the Baileys pudding was little disappointing - fairly bland. Staff very nice, service excellent. 3 courses each plus bottle of wine came to 66e - unbelievable value!

As a pre theatre treat we decided to go to this restaurant as its only around the corner from the Abbey. I had checked out most of the reviews none of which have anything bad to say so and I'm the same. We did book a table just to be on the safe side as its a fastly growing popular restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly and obliging from the moment we walked in. There were quite a few people there though it wasn't packed but it was Monday night after all. Starters are no more than €7.50 and mains no more than €12.50. I started with the Blue cheese, pear and walnut salad of which there was plenty but could have done with some dressing and my friend had the fish cakes which was also delicious. Then I had the low calorie chicken option of which there was loads of chicken and my friend had the lamb which fell of the bone. Every bit was devoured. Including 3 glasses of wine and the meal the bill was €55 which is great value for money. Would defo eat here again.

I have been to Le Bon Crubeen a good few times now and it's always been great. Friendly attentive service, really good value, and good simple French food. The sirloin steak is great value at €12.50. Also, the pub next door, owned by the same guy is great craic on weekend nights and serves a mighty pint of Guinness. Dublin needs more restaurants like this.

Friendly, helpful staff and a nice pub/restaurant atmosphere. Menu is very well priced (starters may be a bit overpriced though).. We had crab salad to start, it was quite nice but a bit creamy. The duck with bok choy main course was delicious though... a whole leg of duck and the meat was perfectly cooked, sweet and tender. My friend had the steak though, which looked more like a pork chop than a steak - the meat was white (?) but it was tasty enough all the same. The dessert was a bit of a let down, the cheesecake wasn't great and the rice pudding was a bit 'ambrosia' for our liking. All in all, a great meal and at a great price.

Nice food, pleasant atmosphere, great prices. We went early on a Tuesday night and it was full, on a bad night too, lucky we had booked, good sign. We shared a starter of rabbit and duck terrine with asparagus which was absolutely delicious, chunky bits blended with super-smooth, great flavour. The only thing that could have improved was the toast. Then herself decided she’d have a side order of (skinny) chips with mayonnaise as her starter, and I have to admit they were excellent too, though in a different way… Then she had hake with Dublin Bay prawns and lobster sauce, which was pronounced lovely except the lobster sauce was a bit heavy and more like a bisque. Very impressed with getting 5-6 real (not frozen “tiger”) prawns. I had confit duck leg which can be horrible but was the real deal, moist and flavoursome, with a really delicious jus. Service excellent - pleasant and efficient. Total bill was €57 including four (large) glasses of wine, which I reckon is hard to beat. Recommended.

We have been here a few times, and stay going back! The food is great value, delicious and fresh. Nothing fussy, good french food! I would reccommend the fish cakes for started, they are lovely. Soup always goes down well. The onion and goats cheese tart was a bit dissapointing for me as I would like less onion and more goats cheese. Still very tasty! The steak is always cooked to perfection, I love rare steak and have always gotten it cooked just right. The best value steak in Dublin I think. The fish and chips are lovely. All mains are under €15, great value. It is a bit of a pubby athmosphere but more french bisto than irish pub. The bathrooms are lovely, many nice restuarants are let down by horrible bathrooms. Nice friendly staff, always busy but very efficient. Food portions are big and arrive on the table very quickly! The chocolate dessert is amazing!

We were going out on Fri night in the city and wanted to have a quick bite first. Le Bon Crubeen had been recommended to us by friends and we had been planning to come here for some time. We arrived without any reservation, the place was fairly busy but they managed to provide us with a decent table for two, there was a great buzz in the place with loads of noisy after work chatter around. We weren’t starving and this was our first time here so decided to have a main each. The waiter took our order and delivered the food efficiently and that was really the end of the service, the next time someone came to our table was to take the empty plates and collect the bill. My wife opted for the Caramelised Onion And Goats’ Cheese Tart With Rocket Salad, is has a nice crispy base loads of onion and loads of green leaves with some dressing and green olives that are not mentioned on the menu, my wife hates green olives, she managed to pick them out. I had a lamb dish with roasted garlic and green beans it really was delicious piece of meat and the accompanying veg was not too bad either. We had a couple of drinks from the bar we found a problem with one of them and questioned this with the manager, we received a long story and not much satisfaction we ended up feeling really sorry that we had said anything, I got the feeling he was glad to be rid of us and so rid of us he will be.

Friends were visiting from England.I had just read about enough reviews on this place to pique my interest.7 of us trooped out to this cosy spot on talbot street. Its much further down from the spire. The ambience didnt deviate much from the usual gastropub though it was spacious and roomy. The restaurant was pretty occupied for a monday night but not too noisy for chatting.I was perusing the menu and was a tad disappointed that they didnt have the lamb shank as advertised on menupages-perhaps their weekly specials varies quite a bit. However I must emphasize that all their mains were around the e12-13 mark which was brilliant.I went for the sea bream and rusti vegetables which were a sizeable portion.Down with a cold, I wouldnt have been a good judge for taste but I had happy campers throughout the table. Those with steak orders were happily chomping away. They cooked their steaks with precision tailoring to orders.I distinctly saw a rare steak across the table and my mate said it was tender and succulent. As for dessert, I had bailey's bread and butter pudding which had tonnes of raisins and vanilla custard.Once again, I must say portions were big but it varies between orders. Was definitely a recession friendly meal with good value.

I went there with my wife early in the evening (around 6.30pm) thinking we will easily find a place. Well not... We got a place but at the bar. It wasn't so bad but you don't really know how to sit to have your meal :( I both got the 8Oz Irish Sirloin Steak With Rosemary Jus, Fries And Salad at €12.50. The meat was very good, very tender, perfect cooking. The salad, fresh and nice. The Fries... what was that? Frozen food obviously, quite disappointing. The service was ok but yet the waitress was kind of busy so... In overall the food is ok, the service is ok, the atmosphere. Could do better.

I came here with a group of 5 people, and we were all very pleased with this place. If you like a relaxed pub atmosphere with restaurant quality food then this is the place to go. We didn't have starters, and all but one, who had lamb, had the steak for mains. It was very tasty, and excellent value at 12.50. The desserts were lovely too. I had the mango cheescake which was heavenly. I don't see mango dishes on menus enough so this was a a very pleasant surprise. I will definitely go here again, and would be happy to recommend it to anyone

When a friend and I came here on a recent Saturday, our first impressions were unpromising. We had not expected the place to be so pubby, nor the menu to have such a pub-grub feel about it. After being shown to a very poky table, we managed to get this changed to a window seat, but we were then ignored for a longish time. I had to ask a waitress to come down to us and she was not best pleased, but she did prove to be very friendly and helpful. The place grew on us as time went on, mainly because the main courses were good. My friend's lamb was perfect as was my sirloin, for which I had mash substituted for fries without a problem. However, we then shared a cheeseboard which was not great - slabs of boring, supermarket-style cheese which seemed to be straight out of the fridge. The wine list was well priced but far too small for what is in all other respects a wine bar. Overall, however, I would be happy to come again, for the food quality and prices.

5 of us had dinner here on a Friday night to celebrate a birthday. One of the group was a vegetarian and his options were very poor which was disappointing. He had onion soup and a goats cheese tart which were mediocre. The rest of us ordered either fish cakes or salad to start followed by fish and steak for main. These meals were fine, not great, but fine. The waiter startled us by picking up the wine menu at the table, and tearing it up. We asked why he did that and he said 'that there was drink spilt on it and they could hardly issue it to another table, could they?'. Not very polite, why have paper menus then? Later on, the music starts. We were seated right beside the door to the noisy bar, so we were listening to restaurant music and very loud bar music at the same time as the door was opened frequently. My friend asked if there was anything they could do about the music and he was told, 'No, there was not.' To conclude: this is not a place I would visit again!

Celebrated a birthday here over the weekend. Was a bit dubious about the restaurant as it is difficult to know from the outside of the place what it will be like inside. I would recommend a pre dinner drink in the Celt next door. Then enter into the restaurant through the adjoining door and witness the transformation! A relaxed, lively atmosphere, extremely attentive staff. I did not think the menu was anything special but the starter and main course I chose (fish cakes & sea bass) were delicious! I got as near as I could to licking the plate without being frowned at by the other diners! House white wine was very tasty, as were the desserts. However another person at my tabel ordered the steak and said it was just mediocre. I agree with another reviewer who says the chips aren't great. Despite these two complaints we had a great meal!

Nice place for lunch thgouh the music was too loud to have any decent chat. the food was ok - nothing special given the price. I had a panini with salad and fries. The fries were those skinny type which i hate. the salad was nice. the panini was nice - nothing special. Service was excellent.

I ate here for the second time on Sunday and I have to say I was really impressed yet again by the quality of the food. The four of us had steak and chips and it was delicious. Cooked exactly as we asked, which is always a bonus. Reasonably priced also.

Le Bon Crubeen is a firm favourite of mine it offers restaurant quality food for the equivalent of pub grub prices. Having been there many times before I would have no trouble recommending it for lunch. The steak now with pepper sauce is excellent. The fish and chips good, the honey glazed gammon nice if a little sweet. The food is always well presented and the staff friendly. It really is hard to beat in terms of value for money.

Had lunch here recently, the starters didn't really appeal to me so I just ordered the mixed dips with bread which turned out to be really good, great hummous and salsa. Steak was lovely and perfectly cooked. Mango cheesecake for dessert was also nice. So no complaints about the food. However there was a really bad smell in the restaurant that came in bursts every now and again. At first we thought it was the toilets but on inspection the toilets were immaculate. Not sure what it was! So I would go back for the food but the bad smell would turn me off.

Went to dinner here with 7 friends on a friday night. I had the steak and it was lovely so too were the chips. Downside of dish no vegetables just a meagre salad.Had soup to start it was nice, thick and wholesome. The best part of my meal was the apple and blueberry tart. I'm big into my desserts and this hit the spot. Sweet and juicy filling not too much pastry and creamy vanilla ice cream on the side. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals but with a big group no one complains that much. The wine got a thumbs up from everyone. The service was great attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere was non existent as there was very few people in the restaurant, but it was fine because we had a group. Overall an good experience.

Had dinner here last night with my aunt and we were hugely impressed. They have an extensive evening menu with main courses for around €11. I had grilled salmon with cabbage, lardon, potato rosti and lemon butter. It sounded like a lot of food on one plate but it was delicious. I'd never have put cabbage and salmon together but they worked well. My aunt had rabbit, pea and pancetta risotto. I had a small taste and the risotto was very good. It might have been a tad rich for my palette but my aunt left a clean plate. We had two creme brulees to finish which again were gorgeous. They were served with some possibly homemade vanilla icecream on the side but the creme brulee was enough for us. The staff were attentive, polite and friendly without being intrusive and service was prompt and efficient. It's a fantastic restaurant and will definitely be going back to sample more of those main courses.

Went for the early bird with 4 mates - they dont offer the EB unless you ask for it, which we did. My sweet onion tart was very tasty. For mains I wanted the meetballs but served with spagettii, I asked the waitress if it was gluten free, but she had difficulty understanding, she was foreign, very polite, but her English wasnt great - I asked her to ask chef, and if so ask if I could have the meatballs with a side salad/potatoes or whatever. She returned saying the spagettii wasnt gluten free and to order something else - I'm sure she didnt understand my request. My salmon was bland, the cold egg on the side was out of place with this dish. My mates quail however was very tasty. Desserts, I had the chocolate fondant, a bit too dry, whereas the mango cheesecake was delicious. Overall it was fine, and with the EB prices reasonable. The restaurant has a 'bar' feel to it, but it is comfortable, however the music was jsut too loud for conversation, ok for a bar but not a restaurant. One other annoyance was the waiter arriving with a 2nd bottle of wine, which we hadnt ordered (as most were driving we didnt want the 2nd bottle so sent it back) I do find this practice a bit annoying. Also our bill included full price instead of EB - however it was immediately amended when we pointed this out.

Wondering where to eat before a visit to the theatre I found this place online and it sounded good. It looks like somewhere you might find in france or italy. A bar with tables thrown in- unfussy and busy. The clientele was a real mix - students, couples, groups of friends of all ages. The staff is friendly and efficient and the food is great. We had Brie and Duck pate for starters and SeaBass and Guinea fowl to follow. Every dish was very good. With a bottle of house red the bill was very reasonable. Can't wait to go back.

Staff extremely efficient and polite, a credit to the owners. We shared mussels and wonderful warm crusty bread to start and I had steak and chips and he had liver, spinach and mash. We were just short of licking the plates. I want to bring that Chef home with me! Can't decide which was best - the feeling of actually being cared about in a restaurant by genuine friendly staff or that our mains were only something like e12 each. DO book in advance though as we were just lucky to walk in and managed to get 2 stools at the bar to eat.

Went to the Bon Crubeen last Thursday night. Phone wasnt answered at 530pm when we tried to book a table but were lucky to get a table for 3 when we arrived at 6.15pm. Nice welcome on arrival - very busy with a wide variety of customers. Food very varied - just went for olives & breads/dips to share for starters. Olives were in heavy oil which was a bit too much but accompanying warm bread was fabulous. Dips were lovely with other breads. We all had the Hake with Pernod butter. Very tasty but would probably ask for the butter on the side next time as the Pernod was a little strong. Good atmosphere - excellent service - very friendly waiters. Tables more like pub rather than restaurant as no table cloth. Choc fondant was very good. Cheese plate was a little disappointing - plenty of cheese but quite basic flavours & ballymaloe relish promised was more like pickles red onions. Good value & will return to sample more of the menu!

Called in mid week on a rainy night. Didn't book and was surprised at how busy it was. Luck to get a seat. Food was excellent. Had duck and my girlfriend had the lamb. As someone who lived in France for 6 years,I can say that both dishes would do a French resto proud. Value for money was very good too. Looking forward to my next visit

Visited this restaurant for lunch as I was working in the area for the day. The restaurant section was full so we sat in the bar, which was really nice and actually full of character. The lunch portions are quite big and good value, we both had paninis with fries although one portion of fries is enough between two. Service is quick for lunchtime and the staff were friendly and helpful. I will return when in the area again.

Went to Le Bon Crubeen for the first time as I had head good things and wasn't disappointed. Surprisingly there aren't many truly authentic French restaurants in Dublin centre, so was looking forward to trying this one out. Wasn't disappointed at all, the staff are lovely, the food is great, and the prices are very easy on the pocket. The only low point was that we were given a table right beside the entrance door on a chilly night - when there was a whole adjoining room of empty tables we didn't yet know about. Try the mussles and the lamb.

Popped in here for lunch and it was busy so the only seats available were out in what I can only describe as a back room.It was very cut off and made my friend a little uncomfortable, however the waiter said a table had become free nearer the front door if we wanted to move so we did. We went for the duck pate and the goat's cheese tart with olive salad for starters and wild mushrooms on sourdough toast with mascopone and pork &leek bangers and mash for mains. I loved my duck pate starter and only disappointment was running out of the toast to finish the rest of the delicious pate. My friends goat's cheese tart was nice but not he was a bit underwhelmed. He lucked out in the mains his bangers and mash were delicious, the mash a triumph he had to fend me off coming back for seconds. My mushrooms were ok but there was way too much mascopone on top it did look great but I felt bad being so wasteful as I put most of it to the side. Had a creme brulee for dessert which was nice. Service was friendly and attentive and we weren't waiting long for anything which was great as we were starving. I thought it was great value for money and the mains not that much more expensive than the starters. I'd definitely be back to try out the rest of the menu and of course the mash.

Visited last night with my wife and had a fabulous evening. The minute we walked in the door we were given instant attention. We booked our table for 6.30 and did not have to wait for it. There was a good choice on the menu. We shared a starter of mixed dips and rustiic bread. For main course I had Lamb Shank and my wife had Fish And Chips which were both fab. We shared a Mango Cheesecake for dessert. There was a good choice of wines to choose from. The service all night was excellent without being over the top. Our bill to inlcude wine was 58Euro which was worth it..When we were finished we gave back our table and sat at the bar and had a couple of cocktails to round off the night. All in all the night cost us 100 Euro and we would have no hesitation in going back soon.

Went here for dinner on a Sunday night. I had the spicy beef panini and chips since they weren't very pricey (7 Euro for the sandwich, small salad, and chips). The panini was alright I guess--it barely had any actual ingredients, so all I could really taste was the bland white panini bread. The chips were pretty standard, thin chips, but not bad. The salad was probably one of the bigger surprises, coming with miniature tomatoes (I forget the technical name for them) and sliced red onion, which I liked. The panini also came with red onions, but as I said, there wasn't much there in terms of sandwich ingredients. Even though the food wasn't terrific, it has a great atmosphere--a sleek, modern feel with jazz on the speakers. I'll have to try back when I'm with a group.

I took my daughter to lunch recently, and a friend of hers unexpectedly joined us. Doing the Mum thing, I wanted to pay,and was a bit concerned, it being February, recession, etc., etc., I needn't have worried. We opted for two starters and one main from the menu, added coffees, and the meal was incredibly good value. The chowder was sumptuous, the fish cakes delicious and plentiful, and the goat's cheese tart was delightful. I'll definitely be returning for dinner - the wait staff were friendly and helpful, moving us very swiftly from a slightly inconvenient table to a much better one, and being attentive without being intrusive. Overall, a very good experience!

This is my fav restaurant at the mo- great quality menu, delicious food, brilliant staff. I had the bangers and mash- and it was really exquisite! The two lads I was with had steak and chips- great value at €12.50- and were very impressed! I will definitely be back here- atmosphere was very pleasant- and next door in the Celt is great for a few drinks after!

I visited this restaurant in December with my husband and we really enjoyed the food, service and atmosphere so much so I decided to bring some girl friends there. I booked 4 days in advance to ensure we got a table. When we arrived, however, we were put into a room completely away from everything, one I suspect they use when they overbook the tables. There was absolutely no atmosphere where we were and it really ruined the night. If I had been told this when booking I would have gone elsewhere. The food and service were very good but the location of our table was less than satisfactory. I would think twice about returning and probably would not book and instead walk in on spec and if there were no tables go elsewhere. I was very disappointed.

I've been here a few times and can definitely say that you will not find a better steak & chips for €12.50! The service has come on leaps & bounds since when it first opened - friendly, chatty & relaxed. It is a little haven on Talbot St! A perfect French little bistro.

Le Bon Crubeen is a little gem of a place, its a total find! I went here about 3 months ago for dinner and was really impressed. I had salmon which was done to perfection, a feat not accomplished often in a lot of restaurants. Its a real find, expecially for its location. I am definitely not alone in thinking this as its now essential to make a booking for dinner or you will lose out! Also went here for a Christmas lunch - was excellent!! Food is great and so reasonable, I had the sea bass and my friend had chicken, both were perfectly cooked. Friend is a fussy eater and even she was impressed so thumbs up there! Service is good, very friendly. The actual dining room is ok but the food more than makes up for it. Long may it continue!!!

I went here with a friend my first impressions was a nice atmosphere, roomy, good seating areas and friendly staff. There was a good selection on the menu however as we were not starving we went with two paninis and chips with drinks. The panini selection was good not just the usual ham and cheese choices of chorizo, goats cheese, chicken pesto, brie and serrano ham. I got the serrano ham and emmental and my friend got the chicken pesto together with a huge bowl of french fries and salad. Both orders were delicious and satisfying. Staff were effecient and friendly and was good value for money. I will definately come here again for a full dinner.

Came here with a friend after hearing good things about Le Bon Crubeen. It looks like a little bar you'd see near a train station in France, quite old fashioned by cosy. We shared fishcakes to start which we weren't crazy on but the mains were great. I'd the Sea Bass with spinach and my friend had the steak and chips. Both were really good and a total bargain - all the mains cost less than €12.50. We shared the mango cheesecake for dessert which was also really nice. with a few soft drinks, the bill was only €25 each including a tip so a great experience overall.

I was working close by to Le Bon Crubeen unexpectedly yesterday and went for lunch as I have heard such great things about it. As I was on my own I was seated at the bar which was probably more comfortable than sitting at a table on my own. The service was excellent but where Le Bon Crubeen really shines is the food. It is absolutely excellent! I had the honey glazed gammon, savoy cabbage and mashed potatoe. I've had this dish a number of times in the last year at some of the best restaurants in Dublin as 'bacon and cabbage' is back en vogue again. It was by far the best variation I had at Le Bon Crubeen. Having been so impressed by the main I ventured the 'Bailey bread and butter pudding' for desert. Wow, oh wow! This was totally and unexpectedly delicious. Service was excellent through out also. My only issue with Le Bon Crubeen is the decor and the atmosphere. It's definitely not as warm as it could be but this is a minor gripe for a place that is a real find.

This restaurant was a wonderful surprise. The area around is not the nicest but inside the restaurant, everything is great. The food is by far the best in the area. I ordered a delicious pumpkin and goat's cheese pie and a nice healthy salad as a starter. The staff here is really professional. There were no immediate spots but the maitre d sat us at the bar until a table freed up. The waitress was happy and quick. I recommend this place to any local or visitor.

We went here with work for our Christmas Lunch and there was 18 of us. When it was first booked we were told 2 tables of 9 would be the layout. On the morning of the lunch a colleague got a phone call to say that the 2 tables were a bit spaced out from eachother but it was in the same area. On arriving at the restaurant They had given us a table of 6, table of 4 Table of 4 and another table of 4. All beside the front door a a partician between the table of 6 and the rest of the tables. We were not happy as we could not make alternative arrangements with another restaurant as we had no time. The caesar salad was not a nice starter. No one enjoyed that starter but whoever got the fish cakes for starters said it was lovely. The steak for main course was delicious. The sea bass wasn't that nice. Where they seated us was right beside the front door so everyone was freezing coz there was alot of people coming in and out of the door. I would not eat here again due to the way we were treated and also as I only enjoyed my main course of steak 22 euro for 3 course very average meal is not what i would recommend. There are better offers to be had if you look elsewhere

Went here for lunch with work and although the food is good and reasonable the service is a bit of a let down. The place was packed and I believe it is everyday. Well worth going for the food if you have time but just don’t be in rush.

Great value for lunch. Have only been here for lunch, but am a regular visitor because of the consistently good food, with a regularly changed menu, and the excellent value. Staff are friendly and helpful, and very accommodating of buggies/children, which is very welcome. Good for both groups and small numbers.

Overrated and I will not be back. 3 of us ate here last night and we had a mediocre meal at best. The starters were bland, with the goose rilliettes being a terrible disappointment, too much fat and not enough seasoning- and a smaller amount of higher quality meat would have worked much better. The salmon cakes were boring. The lamb skank was ok, it was fairly tender and while a little bit fatty, came off the bone nicely, although the "champ" was very poor. It tasted like it had been in the bain marie since 9am. Desserts were bought in and tasted like it. What really disappointed me about this place was the service... it was APPALLING!! Our waitress almost gouled at us when we ordered, she had to be reminded 4 times to bring us water and eventually a colleague did. We ordered coffees with dessert and the coffees came within 1 minute- we were waiting 15mins on dessert and we asked for fresh coffees as they were clearly gone by the time dessert came out. The manager came over and told us that we should have specified that we wanted coffee either with or after dessert, as their system means it is made straight away. When I pointed out that you dont drink coffee before dessert he aid that was not the way in the restaurant business... which is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard and was rude to the point of putting us off going back again. Pull your socks up LBC!

Love it. Love it. Love it. I'm not gonna give the usual review of how good a place is but how it's unfortunate that it's in the 'wrong end' of town. It's been done and it's getting tiring. When a place is this good, it doesn't matter where it is and this place is perfect. The manager was everything a manager should be; the place was full but he still chatted to each and every table more than once. Our food was simple and executed perfectly: fillet of seabass and a delicious steak frites. The young waiters were attentive and the place was heaving. There was a mixed bag of people there from American tourists, to young Spanish students to Dublin locals and those who used to eat the same type of food and drink the same wine in more high-end establishments in previous years!! I wish this place all the best and am looking forward to visiting again. It's also located right beside the Abbey theatre and not too far from the Gate either.

I had passed Le Bon Crubeen on Talbot Street a number of times and always meant to make a reservation and I got the opportunity when a few friends of mine called to Dublin. The sign outside the restaurant which reads “French Food for feck all” always manages to catch my attention. We ordered a bottle of wine to begin with while we tried to decide what to order from the great selection of dishes available. I ordered the Soup of the Day which was Leak and Potato to begin and it was delicious. For the main course I opted for the Steak and I asked for mash and veg with it instead of the salad and fries that normally comes with it. They also gave me fries with the meal. The Steak was superb and the meal was really tasty without leaving me too full. My friends were also very impressed with their main courses. The staff were really attentive and we were asked numerous times if everything was okay. Although the selection of desserts looked scrumptious we ordered coffee. I found the prices to be extremely good for the quality of food available. I was also impressed with how well taken care of the bathrooms are. I highly recommend this restaurant and I will certainly be visiting the place again.

Had been to Le Bon Crubeen previously and enjoyed it. Was there at lunchtime which is busy and atmosphere is good. Saw some well known faces from nearly newspaper offices. Salmon fish cake starters were delicious. I had a duck and spiced pear salad which was mostly ok. There was a dressing underneath the dish which was too sweet. My colleague had the lamb dish which was very good. She had a rice and fruit dessert which was delightful. I had an adequate creme brulee. Will go there again.

A Jewel in crummy Talbot Street. The restaurant has a distinct feeling of being in a late night bar or diner but the food will soon remind you that this is a seriously good establishment. The service is friendly and efficient. I had the leek and pork baggers in mash. It didn't disappoint. My partner had the steak which didn't look the best, but again was top-notch stuff. The pear crumble for dessert was just like my mothers, can there be a better compliment? I'll be back.

Unexpected gem! Never heard of this until when booking tickets at the Abbey Theatre one of the staff recommended it. Unpretentious, really lovely food, served quickly by lovely staff... and brilliant value. North inner-city Dublin is a mare for good eats, so this is a very welcome find!

This was my second time going in for lunch. The place was packed but we opted to eat at the bar as we were all hungry and I knew the food was worth it. As it was the end of a business meeting we all had a main and coffee, so nothing fancy. I had the steak again which comes with a delicious pepper sauce, rocket salad and lovely shoestring fries. My two colleagues opted for fish and chicken also with salad and fries/potato as standard with the meal (not charged extra). It was a huge hit with both of them as neither had eaten there before but were assuring me they would return for definite! The steak was cooked medium as I had requested the chicken got a thumbs up as did the fish. The meal set me up for the day and left us all with smiles on our faces. The only thing was we had to ask a number of times for our Tea and Coffee at the end of the meal, but we were having such a good conversation it wasn't the end of the world. I'm going back in for another meeting/lunch this afternoon..I guess that says it all really!

I ate here last night as part of a small group and must admit to being a little disappointed. I had been very much looking forward to eating here based on the previous reviews but something seemed to be lacking (on this visit at least). First of all the pub is very very loud and at times conversation amongst us proved difficult. Secondly staff were quite overbearing, we were asked at least 4 times whether we were ready to order whilst waiting for a few members of the group to arrive and then twice again once they did! Afterwards we felt the service itself then was quite frosty and abrupt but efficient at least. Foodwise my starter of warm, fresh bread with various dips was delicious but the mains fell down dramatically. A few of us ordered monkfish with hake and all found the monkfish to be dry, chewy and quite overcooked. Others were happier with their choices however. A chocolate fondant for dessert was rich and sumptuous and (just about) melting in the middle but the rhubarb and apple crumble appeared to have no actual rhubarb in it. All in all a very mixed evening but with some order imposed on the wait staff and more care taken with the food prep Le Bon Crubbeen has potential and it's value for money is hard to beat.

I had dinner here last night with a friend, it was my first time dining here, its a nice relaxing bar/restaurant, food was very nice, although the baileys bread and butter pudding could have done with more mixed peel, i was suprised to see rolled up hand towels in the toilets, over all the food, service, wine and atmosphere was good, friendly staff too. value was great €68.50 for two starters, two mains, one dessert, french coffee and a bottle of house wine (santa dign sav blanc) ill be back again.

I'd nearly give this spot top marks but not quite yet. We shared a starter of fish cakes which were tasty but were not heated through. My wife and I both had the fillet of lamb. She was delighted with hers but mine was tough. We swopped bites and both agreed. The manager couldn't have been better when I called him. He said he would replace it immediately and he was as good as his word. He suggested that the toughness may have been because I asked for medium rare which I said I couldn't accept. My replacement fillet was tasty but not pink enough for my liking. For dessert we chose apple crumble and bread and butter pudding. The crumble was the winner here as the B&B pudding was very dry. The lamb main courses were great value at €12.50 each but I thought the desserts were pricey at €5.95. We had a bottle of Shiraz for €20 and this was very good. I was a little disappointed with my main but I'd go back again to sample another main course and to acknowledge the absolute courtesy and service of the manager.

Excellent food and very good prices. This is quite a casual place, more of a gastro-pub rather than a full-on restaurant. You can sit at the bar or at a number of tables. We have dined here many times, sometimes with groups of 8-10 people, and have never been let down, and everyone has been more than happy with their food. The steak is definitely the best value steak in Dublin, just €12.50 for a nice sirloin with crispy fries and salad! One small gripe, in the evening time the lights are always a bit too bright for my taste. I'd suggest turning them down a bit and putting a few little tea-light candles on the tables.

I am a big fan of this place. I discovered it by chance though Menupages and I decided to try it. It is the best gastropub in Dublin by a mile. I have been there about 5 or 6 times and I also celebrated my birthday there with friends. The food is scrumptuous and I can't believe is so inexpensive. I have tried a good few dishes but amongst them the calamari salad is fantastic, the lamb shank and the steak are heavenly dishes and please try the bread and butter pudding with ice-cream. They have to roll me out of the place every time I go. Yes, it's not a restaurant per-se, it's clearly a pub, so you may not take your boss, client, mother in law, etc if your intention is to impress them but...oh brother is the food there good! It's a casual and cheerful place that serves much better food than expensive restaurants in Dublin. It is well managed and the Chef there deserves a medal. Well done my angel whoever you are!

I dont realy visit the North side eateries too often but went in search of this place because they have recieved lots of good reviews of late and have taken a full page (how decadent) in the dublin dining guide so I reckoned that they were doing allright. The reviews were accurate. The restaurant was dark inside which in my books is a little bit suspect as I like to see what I am expected to eat but the worry was soon put aside as my seafood salad arrived. Wow, wow and wow again. The presentation of the food was as delicious as the food was in taste. Unpretentious great food, simple but artistic presentation, genorous portions and prompt service were the key notes. Now I truely reccomend this place and commend the chef for his/her attention to detail and choice of fresh ingredients. I will be back again so the next test is to see if this experience will be repeated or even topped.

Visited this place a couple of times now, firstly to try it out as I am a coeliac so a bit limited. Imagine my joy on my first visit to be told that I could have anything on the menu! Well impressed with that. The second visit I was told obviously not the pasta dishes, so they had changed the menu in the meantime, but still very willing to provide whatever I wanted if they could. Excellent friendly service, couldn't do enough for us and asked us about the new items on the menu that they hadn't tried (which were lovely). Had the bruschettas and the risotto (both times) and it's absolutely gorgeous, compliments to the chef

Came here on Sunday evening for dinner. We were first given the main menu and had to ask for the menu with the Irish dishes which were advertised on boards outside. We had the Potato and Leek soup to start, I had the Bacon and Cabbage which I loved so much I recommended to a Swedish couple who sat next to us. My friend had the cod and chips, also very good. My only concern is that as I was walking downstairs to the toilets, I realised the food was brought from downstairs past the toilets! Otherwise no complaints.

Visited Le Bon Crubeen for the first time myself with my husband who often had lunch here previously & recommended it. I can understand why, I thought the place had lovely modern decor, the staff were very friendly without being obtrusive. I had leek and potato soup which was hearty & filling and I followed it with grilled salmon with aspargus and baby potatoes, also delicious. Himself had the fish cakes and beef panini and overall we had a lovely meal for less than €40 . Would deffo go back.

I have been to Le Bon Crubeen many times as I work nearby. Last Thursday evening, I went for a meal to Le Bon Crubeen with two colleagues. We had food which was very nice and some drinks. Around 9pm a group of 6 English tourists came in and sat beside us. They were three married couples and one of the gentlemen started a conversation which we engaged in. However, a senior staff member came to our table and asked us to "keep it down". We were quite taken aback as we were only asking their questions about places of interest to visit during their stay. We were quite offended by the staff member's comments and we left feeling quite embarrassed. In this time of recession, I feel the management of a restaurant such as Le Bon Crubeen should be delighted to have business both from regulars like ourselves (We easily spent 150 during our visit) and tourists alike. Furthermore, we were only doing our bit for tourism in talking to these visitors to our city. I will never set foot in Le Bon Crubeen again and I have informed my colleagues accordingly.

I had a very pleasant experience at Le Bon Crubeen yesterday evening. I found the staff very friendly and the atmosphere very warm and welcoming. The menu was great, a good selection but not too much and the prices were very reasonable indeed for what we got. I had the bangers and mash which was lovely the caramelised onion was delicious the only thing i would say is the gravy lacked a little flavour. My friend had the scallop and asparagus risotto which was lovely too, nice delicate flavour. To finish we had the baileys bread and butter pudding...all in all I was very satisfied with my meal and would definitley go back.

Take That were playing that night, the restaurant was very busy with concert goers. I initially wasn't expecting good service because of this. We were welcomed by attentive friendly staff, the menu was full of seasonal options (the fig starter was delicious, the rocket was nice and fresh too!) flavour and presentation of the dishes were excellent. Overall the the meal was very enjoyable and great value for money. I will be telling plenty of people about my visit and hope to be back very soon! Compliments to the chef ;)

Le Bon Crubeen was highly recommended to me by a friend and in all honesty i wasn't expecting it to live up to my expectations. Was i wrong!! This place is fabulous, excellent food at extremely reasonable prices with brilliant service thrown in. There are a lot of restaurants that could learn a lot from them. The quality of the food was superb and at such an amazingly low price. Will definitely be visiting here a lot in the future.

Ate with a friend at Le Bon Crubeen Thursday night and was pleasantly surprised. The food was very good, we had the fish and chips though disappointed the chips were not thicker or home made and only a ramekin of mushy peas, the fish was delicious. The pork was accompanied by lovely fluffy mash potatoes the roasted veg were nice if a bit mushy. Nice decor and atmosphere and the staff are very friendly.

Went to Le Bon Crubeen with two work mates for lunch. The restaurant was very busy (always a good sign) so we were seated in the pub next door. The place we were seated smelled a bit like cleaning products. The food was really nice. I had the salmon with aspargus and new potatoes while my mates had the bangers and mash. They seemed really pleased with their food and mine was definately worth coming back for. The salmon was cooked to perfection and the horseradish aioli which came with it was really delicious.

I regularly go here for lunch with the girls from the office. The food is wonderful, and it is excellent value. The service can be a little slow, but worth the wait. The staff are friendly and helpful. I would recommend you pre-book your table for lunch because it is very busy.

what a fantastic place. visited with my husband who is a coeliac and it is always good to know that restaurants are famailir with this condition. the service was great, and food was amazing as for the price - it is so very very reasonable. we had starter, main course, dessert, 2 pts cider bottle of nice wine price came to 82 euro. absolutely fantastic value my husband said the steak was the best he has ever tasted. we will definitely be back.

I "discovered" Le Bon Crubeen in early February when friends came to Dublin from "the country" and after a day's shopping we needed something to suit a variety of tastes. It was terrific. From the minute we went in, to paying the bill (remarkably low), we had nothing but praise for the staff, service and quality of the food. Our various food allergies were taken into account, when the waiter didn't know he checked with the chef, and nothing was left to chance. Portions were very generous, service efficient, food served hot and had obviously not been left waiting at "The Pass" On the strength of the first visit, returned again in March and again, wasn't disappointed. Tried different foods on this occasion, and again, quality, service, and staff excellent. The staff are very friendly, without being over familiar, and the entire place has a very relaxed atmosphere. The staff seem to be very happy there, and smile a lot. We went early in the evening and the place was buzzing. Very well priced and you don't get the feeling of being ripped off. Will definitely be going back.

This place is definitely worth a visit. I went on a weekday evening; the atmosphere is relaxed and yet quite intimate. The music was appropriately generic and was at a nice volume. Service was friendly and prompt including helpful advice from the waiter. The food, I have to say, was not as good as the service; all the vegetables were dripping in butter and, to my taste, overcooked. My blue cheese souffle was nice and strong but ruined by the vegetable accompaniment. However I have to say that overall this was a good dining experience which just shows that good ambiance and service can make up for average food!

This is a little gem on the northside. My friend found it and we decided to go there before heading to the Abbey. The food was lovely, I had steak with chips which was cooked prefectly and a big portion. Two of us ended up having dessert; an apple crumble and chocolate tart thing, they were lovely and the bill was very reasonable. I will definitely go there again, it's well worth the trip if you are looking for a nice place to eat in the nothside of the city centre.

Having read the reviews on Menu pages, we decided to try this place out before the theatre. The staff could not have been nicer or more helpful. The food was very tasty with generous portions. The lamb shank fell off the bone, as did the duck and the hake was declared delicious. Two bread and butter desserts made of croissants and brioche, which were well worth the indulgence, finished the meal off. This restaurant is definitely worth trying!

Almost an excellent eatery. I was enjoying my evening until my main course arrived (baked hake). While the fish and potatoes were perfectly cooked, they were absolutely drowned in butter (which I'm guessing was supposed to be a beurre blanc), which ruined the dish. Other than that, the food was very food (particularly so at such low prices). Service was also excellent. Not crazy about the ambiance though; it's far too bright and it doesn't really have a 'bistro' feel to it. There's definitely potential here though. I will revisit in a few months to see if these little imperfections have been ironed out.

This place is really great for lunch. The bar is actually really nice and cosy aswell but I've only ever come here for food and not for drinks. They do paninis and salads and nice pasta dishes for lunch. Service is really good and the staff are friendly also.

Have been here for both lunch and dinner. Great value and service. Only problem at lunchtime is that it's difficult to leave :-) which is a problem when you have to go back to work. Will definitley go again.

I love this place. Eat here quite regularly as I work nearby. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The place is very clean. The food is great. My only complaints are that the menu is limited (me being a very fussy eater) and the music is really loud (I am only in my 20's). On two occasions I had to ask them to turn down the music as I was unable to hold a conversation. But this place is definately worth a visit.

Joined a colleague for lunch there last Friday - We had no reservation and the place was hopping. We soon found 2 high stools and propped ourselves at the bar. The manager quickly came over to ensure we were ok sitting there and offered to re-seat us in The Celt bar (an annex to Le Bon Crubeen). We stayed put. Our orders were promptly taken and our food soon followed. My companion had the Bangers & Mash - a fine large portion of 3 sausies, mash and onion gravy - She couldn't finish all three, so I gave a dig out. Splendid indeed. I had the pesto chicken panini, which was served with salad and a generous portion of fries. Absolutely delicious. Would definitely recommend for lunch. A hidden treasure!

2 of us went here for lunch chose the sandwiches, they were lovely the the fries were fab too. The salads sounded and looked good but they were overpriced for salad...would return, service was good except for when we asked for the bill, we had to go up the bar eventually and pay at the counter.

I had the smoked haddock chowder here for lunch and it was the nicest chowder I have ever had- hot, creamy, well seasoned and lots of fish - perfect. The staff were friendly and attentive, I hope the place does well and that they keep up these high standards.

We went here and were seated immediately. The service was great but the menu didn't offer much. We were given a lunch menu with the same steak as the dinner menu for €10 less. The desserts were amazing and I highly recommend it.

Myself and my partner tried this restaurant/bar during lunch-time while out shopping in november. We were seated quickly and the staff were very nice. We both ordered the leek and pork bangers with mash and thought they were delicious. the decor of the bar was lovely and i was even impressed with the bathrooms! We just couldnt get over the great price and quality of the food and since then have told all our friends about here. its a great place and we will definaly return next time we are in dublin.

Went to Le Bon Crubeen Saturday night (4th Oct) and had the Grilled Chicken and Couscous Salad , my friend had the Smoked Haddock Chowder. Both were excellent & very well presented. It's a very stylish place without being pretentious, quite relaxing & comfortable. The staff were top notch and the hostess was really on the ball...will definitely be going back..it's really nice to see such a great place on Talbot Street!

I had a disappointed experience at Le Bon Crubeen a couple of weeks ago. What is in the name? The high investment made to transform this place into a great new venue in the Dublin 1 area does not match its simple overpriced menu, nor it faulty service. The room is beautiful although a bit cold if there are not many people around. The prices are very high when you think you are having your meal just in a pub (they love to use the term Gastropub, don't they?). The waiter, when asked, could not explain the difference between dishes, not even between side orders! Rather small portions as well for the price paid. The lively pub next door is owned by the same people and has a better and more solid menu than Le Bon Crubeen.

I had a lunch here recently and was quite impressed by it. There was 5 or 6 of us and the food got out in a reasonable time, which is often a consideration when its a midweek lunch. The place is nicely decorated. It has that classic cocktail lounge look. I got their steak, which came with fries and salad. It was quite tasty and just the right size for a lunch time meal. The service is good, being new, the staff seem to be full of youthful enthusiasm! 12.50 for the steak, salad, fries, and all of good quality, cant go wrong really.

I work on the same street as this restaurant, so was eager to try it out as there aren't many places around. 7 of us went for lunch, which did cause a bit of an issue as you can't book Le Bon Crubeen for lunch, a definite downside when organising lunch for colleagues and clients (we had tried). This was particularly annoying as when we arrived there were reserved tables inside! However, the manager really went out of his way to accomodate us. The service was really friendly and fast, and the food was great. The pricing was fair, considering the quality, and also the lack of competition for this type of restaurant in the area. We woudl definitely go back, just perhaps in a smaller group!

You dont get many new places to eat in opening around this area. I work locally so went with a couple of colleagues and were impressed. We had lunch and were in and out in about 40 minutes even though they were busy. Nice menu, food quality is pretty high but at an average lunch rate. If you work in the area and want a change i recommend it.
