Came here on a Saturday evening because we had heard good things about it. Very friendly and welcoming staff. We went for the early bird menu which is really good value 3 courses with a glass of wine for 20e. The wine was ok-you'd expect muck when the price is so cheap but it wasnt. he kitchen made a big boo boo. We waited for a half an hour after ordering our starters (chicken caesar salad and chicken wings) and the waiter arrived with our mains!!!! We told him we had ordered starters and he said that the kitchen had told him our starters had already been sent out. It seems like a very basic theing to get wrong.... Anyway he headed back into the kitchen with our mains and out came our starters. We were starved at this stage!!! the chicken wings were ok, as was the salad. Our mains were ok too fajitas for me were good and a cheeseburger for himself. Not sure about the fajitas but his burger definitely had been left sitting under a hotplate or lamp because his fries were really dried out at that stage. Dessert was ok too we had profiteroles and cheesecake. Followed by an amazing strawberry daiquiri. The restaurant offers great value, have very friendly staff and lovely cocktails. The food is average....ish though!!!!!!!

Group of 15 of us had a birthday meal for my husband here. Great atmosphere and the staff couldn't do enough. Some people thought the starters were on the small side. We shared the faijitas for two and they were great - really tasty! Dessert menu was a little limited but they have a great kids menu. We'll defo be back. All in all a great meal!!! :-)

Was dying to try this restaurant for ages because I had heard lots of good things. Went for dinner, had a starter of chicken wings which were very good but small portion, the sauce on the wings was amazing though. Got the chicken cassoulet for mains and was very disapointed the chicken was very dry and the the whole dish was tasteless. Not sure if it just not a good dish to order or maybe we went on an off night, maybe my expectations were too high from what I had previously heard. Won't be going back anytime soon.

I went here with 2 friends on Saturday evening and we had booked it as they have a great early bird menu. I had the soup for starter which was tasty and filling but could have done with a little more flavour. We all opted for the chicken early bird special which was a Supreme Of Cajun Chicken. It was enjoyable but by no means exceptional. It hit the spot and tasted nice although I was kind of regretting not getting the Fajitas once it arrived as I have had these here before and they are yummy. We got a cocktail of frozen margaritas to finish which were good but not the best I have had. I like them really bitter and strong but they were a little mediocre. I have been here a few times and it is a great place to catch up with friends as service is always good and menu is great value. The food is always consistent and simple. Not really mind blowing. i will be back though as its great value.

Dined here with a friend. Service was prompt and friendly. She opted for the chicken fajitas which she said were really good. I love the smell and the visual of the sizzling hot plate. I had 3 tapas, patatas bravas, quesadillas and calamares. The batter was delicious and light. I would return but while the tapas are nice I think you can get nicer for the same price so I would opt for the lunch menu of 3 tapas for 10 euro in future.

I was in here on Saturday evening for a friends late 40th! there were 15 of us and we had booked for the early bird which is on until 7! we were running a bit behind and never arrived until 7.15 but the waiter had no problems with that and promptly showed us to our table. We were told he was just going to check with the kitchen to make sure it was ok to still order from the early bird menu which was fine! If you've ever been here you'll know they have a great reputation for value and our night was no exception the food is always cooked perfectly, perfectly seasoned and you always leave completely satisfied! and the cocktails were so good that we ended up spending most of the night here anyway. For 15 people all choosing different things more or less...you would expect someone not being happy but honestly all 15 of us were delighted with our night and would return again.

Went for the early bird with a couple of friends on Sat night just before 7pm cut off point. Great value at €19.95 for 3 courses including a glass of wine. Food was good, had guacamole to start which was tasty but did not enjoy the flavour enough to finish the whole thing. Had the special of the day for mains which was a cajun chicken supreme, really enjoyed it. Finished with a tequila and lime cheesecake which was very good. Bill was €32 each including extra wine and a cocktail so felt like good value. It was disappointing though how there were empty tables near us for most of the night, would have been a much better atmosphere if it was full which I had presumed it would be on a Sat night.

Brought my eldest son here a few weeks ago and i wasn't overly impressed. It has to be said the early bird offer of 3 courses for €20 and a glass of wine is without doubt great value ,the food was a bit average. My son was happy with his spag bol,i tasted it and it was nice. I started with the chilli prawns and they were very nice. My chichen fajitas were a big let down. There was no flavour at all from the chichen, not even close to the pack you buy in tesco with the spicy sauce, the bread was a bit chewy and the dips were just ok. I had cheesecake for desert and that wasn't quite set but it was fine. All in ll a bit of a letdown for me.

The early bird here is amazing value, 19.95 for three courses and a glass of wine.. And the food is jus top quality! I had the caesar salad here to start and I have to say its the best Ive had anywhere in Dublin. The staff were very pleasant. The only negative thing i have to say is that the night we were there is was quite warm, uncomfortably so. But is definitely worth a visit, dont think you'll find a nicer early bird for the same money anywhere in dublin.

2nd time for early bird. Food is okay, service was unbelievably slow, nice décor, but too much noise to talk to people in front of you. Chicken wings were not good, very bland and tomato sauce coated was tasteless. Guacamole was okay (but then again, you can’t go wrong with mashed avocado). Chicken fajita was my favourite, seasoned well, and good portion. Fish & Chips was okay, but mayo came with it instead of tartar sauce. Overall very good value for 2 people (under 40 euro for 2 people for 3 courses with a choice of drink), but shouldn’t expect too much about the quality.

Upon booking this table for 17 people we were told we could have 2 hours from 6-8pm, which suited us perfectly, however its was 630pm before anyone came to take our order and 7pm before any starters came. We were subsequently asked to leave rather rudely by a member of staff. The food however was lovely and the early bird menu is very reasonable. My friend had the nicest Chicken Caesar salad also. For a smaller party it would have been perfect!

Myself and my partner went here for the early bird menu for e19.95 which was excellent value inclu free wine. My starter was caesar salad and it was amazing - I cannot fault it, both starters were excellent. For main I had fish goujons and chips and my partner had a fajita. Both were excellent and the night was going great. Then the waitress asked if wed like a dessert menu and we said yes, unfortunately she never came back and after 35 minutes of waiting we were forced to leave with no dessert / tea or coffee. If she had have come back we may have ordered more wine. Have been here before and the service was excellent so i wouldnt let one waitress put me off going back. Would still highly reccommend, as the food and Value were EXCELLENT!!!

I love coming to Cactus Jacks for both the lunch menu and the early bird menu. Both are great value. I especially like the Tortilla starter and the chichen fajitas. The service is always very good with a plesant atmosphere. Great location, very good value for money.

This was my first outing to this highly rated eatery. My partner and I both opted for the early bird special (served all day Sunday) 19.95 for three courses. We went with the prawns to start, they were nice we then had the chef's special... I have no idea what this was called but it was similar to a giant spring roll stuffed with bits of chicken, chewing leather would have been easier, this thing was tough. It was served with chips (Frozen) two sauces and a little dressed salad. I would not avoid going in again but I would not go out of my way to go back. Ok value for money but not a dining experience.

Went here with my family and boyfriend for lunch. Had been a couple of times before and enjoyed it. I had the vegetable fajitas and the rest of the family had the ribs. We all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. I dont enjoy eating out that much as i know being veggie my options are limited but I was happy to see that I had a range of tasty options that I could have. Definitely worth a visit, it's in a funky spot in town too and great for people watching.

After hearing my friends raving about this place for ages me and a friend decided to go. We got the platter for two to start off with, it was delicious and there was so much food that by the time the main came along we were stuffed. Everything was very tasty though and we even made room for desert. Really nice lemon and tequila cheese cake :) Not one cactus in the place though which I though was weird!

This was my first time here. The early bird is good value. I had meatballs to start- they cam out really quickly, so I guess they were jut sitting waiting to be served. The Fajitas were good. The glass od wine is really only a half glass!. My friend ate the Chili con carne and was happy with it. The service was very good. The food was tasty and the early bird is good value for money.

Our party of four showed up to a busy restaurant with a queue outside but luckily we had booked in advance which I'd recommend because although they do great cocktails there's no bar to wait at. We all had the early bird 3course which comes with free wine or fizzy drink but honestly don't go down well with spicy food. Portion sizes where very good and the variety of tex mex food is excellent from burgers to burritos. I was looking forward to the taco they had previously as the special but it wasn't on this particular night. Although it would be a good staple, as I wasn't the only one looking forward to it. The starters were all ample and easily swapped & tasted by each other. The guacamole & chicken wings were the overall favourites. There was a very lively atmosphere with big and small parties but thankfully nothing too boisterous. A good crowd pleaser at a reasonable price!

This restaurant excellent value and a great place to eat at the heart of Dublin when out for a day with your friends. The staff are always friendly and accommodating and can veganise some dishes if you ask. The portions are a decent size and it's a great place to come if you like cocktails, and the early bird is such a good deal.

had a nice dinner here a few weeks ago. Its all very tasty and reasonably priced. We bought a selection of starters and ate them as tapas, they were pretty filling and some were more appealing than the main courses. also with jugs of cocktails flowing you cant go wrong! i hear they have a great value early bird so may come back a bit earlier in the evening next time!

Ate here 2 months ago with 3 friends. We opted to go for a variety of tapas as opposed to starters and mains and shared everything. Ordered about 6 different tapas dishes including meatballs, prawns, nachos and the potatoes and it was more than enough to fill everyone. Especially before a night out. The food was very tasty, as were the jugs of cocktails! Priced quite reasonably too. Good atmosphere, and nicely decorated, The wooden tables are a nice effect. Would defo be back to try their other dishes!

Met a friend for dinner here prior to taking my son to the Batman show- Place was packed downstairs, so was acomodated upstairs. Waitress could not have been any nicer. We had nacho's, which were declicious. The chicken balls, sauce was a little sweet for my taste. Potato skins were nicely loaded and wings were a little dissappointing to me - always like wings to be crispy not soft. A lot of food for a fairly average price. Would return again chosing a different variety of food.

As allways lunch in Cactus was very pleasant. I come here regulary for the lunch deal - 3 tapas or starter and main for 10E. It's the best lunch deal in city center and the portions are huge! I love the quesadillas and the chilli nachos. I'll be back next week...

This was my first time to the Dublin branch of Cactus Jacks and will definitely be going back. Went for the all day Sunday early bird - great deal with 3 courses plus wine for €20. Got wings to start, not too spicy but still nice. Steak for mains - nicely cooked but pepper sauce was very overpowering, too peppery and would not choose it again. Lime tequila cheesecake for dessert - nice portion size after all that food. Service was good and staff were friendly. My only gripe is the tables downstairs are very close together, felt uncomfortable there.

Visited here on last Friday night, there was two of us and it was our second time here. The place was packed but we got a window seat downstairs which is great for people watching, and we were taken care of by a very friendly waitress. We got a bottle of the house wine which is very drinkable and great value at under €20, and had a selection of tapas of which the highlight was the cheesy nachos which have chocolate infused chilli served with. Yummy! All the tapas were delicious though. There was a great atmosphere in the place and the service was really excellent. There will be a third visit from us!

Ate here with my some girlfriends last Thursday. It was very busy but we a table downstairs just in time to catch the early bird. We were greeted with a smile, shown to our table and for the rest of night the service was fantastic. The early bird is such good value, and, judging by how busy the place was everybody else thinks so too. I Had the meatballs to start which were realluy delisious. Had the steak for my mains which was cooked just right, lkove the pepper sauce it was served with. the cheesecake for desert was gorgeous too! My friends had wings and ceasar salad to start which they both really enjoyed and both went for fajitas,. they were really good too. We will definitely be back, it's a really good dining experience here. Excellent value and service.

This was my third time at this restaurant and I enjoyed my meal there the previous two times so I was looking forward to going back. We decided to go for the lunch menu after a trip to the movies. We were then informed that they don't do the lunch menu on Sunday. We then decided to go for the early bird. As there was nothing that appealed to me in the starter section, I asked if it would be possible to get a small portion of the patatas instead which I was informed not possible. We decided to go for 3 tapas dishes each. The sauce on ribs was really good however, the ribs themselves were very, very tough and chewy which took from my enjoyment of them. The honey and mustard dressed chicken was lovely but again the chicken was a little tough. The patatas were good, crispy on the outside and lovely and fluffy inside - just perfect. While the food was ok and the service was reasonable good, I'm not sure I'd be rushing back here due to the hassle we had with the menus and the fact that there are a number of Mexican and Spanish restaurants in the city which I think are better.

Went for the early bird option and was very impressed. The meatballs were very nice, with a lovely sauce. The Burger was really nice. Very big, and hard to get through, but that is not a bad thing. Some places only give a small burger. Only complaint I would have is that the waiters were getting a bit of cross wires. I wanted a beer instead of wine with the early bird offer, and one said it was ok, while another said it wasnt. Would go again though as the food is very good.

Went here for a meal with my girlfriend on Sat night place was very busy, nice decor and feel to the place, food was tasty with nice big portions, only bad point was the waiter made a mistake with our mains but gave us a free bottle of presecco to compinsate which was more than acceptable, left happy and yes will be going back again.

have not been to cactus jacks in a while now and i must say i have missed it. Was there last saturday night with a group of 10 and we had the early bird menu. I have to stress that the place was packed and its great to see and obvious why, great food and some value. We had the 3 courses and glass of wine for 19.95 and it was just amazing. i had the steak which is a 4 euro supplement and worth every penny, they must dry age it or some thing cause it was like butter my knife just fell through it and i did not have to chew it at all. Everyone was really happy with the food and the service is very good too as its is very busy. Even one of the group booked again for her birthday in a few weeks and all i can say guys is if you like good food at great prices then give this place a visit.

I have been here a few time for friends' birthdays and always really enjoy the food. The atmosphere is always really good and the food is delicious. I like that you are not limited with your choices and I usually order the chicken fajita. The only thing is everytime we go when it comes to the bill its always a little messy and there has been at least one mistake each time. The staff are very friendly and the price is so reasonable. 19.95 for the early bird for 3 courses and a glass of wine. you can't go wrong. I've even booked us in there for my friends hen party meal because its such good value. Can't wait to go back again. yum.
Response:
hi there lisa i would like to say thank you very much for your review and your custom. Ill try make sure the bill is right from now on. Hope you enjoy your next visit and thanks again for visiting Cactus Jacks.

3 of us went here for dinner on a Friday evening enticed by the early bird which is great value - 3 courses for €20 plus a glass of wine, bargain! I had soup for start followed by chicken fatija. The soup was a little bland however I tried the chicken wings and the meatballs; they were both lovely. We all had the same main but there were 3 or 4 other choices. I had the icecream for dessert and I tried the tequila lime cheesecake, very nice. The staff were lovely and it has a good atmosphere. So all round it's good value and worth a visit.

tried this place for the first time with €50 for €25 deal. The atmosphere is great, very busy all the time and the staff were very friendly. The wine was great and the menu options were fantastic. We shared a portion of nachos to start and had a borrito and fajitas for the mains. All the food was delicious, the only complaint i had was with the nachos; they tasted great but under the first layer all that sat in front of me was a massive bowl of crumbs, like they upended a smasked box of nachos.
Response:
hi there thank you for your review - you had the grab one deal which was great value and im glad you enjoyed the visit enough to come back sometime, if you wish to get our offers from time to time join us on facebook. regarding the nachos is that at times some plates can have the crumbs from the end of the batch that we made or from being on top of each other they crumble down. thanks again.

Really great service and the atmosphere was good. The menu was standard and not very exciting but very good quality and really good value for money. If your looking for a good night out with a group of mates this is the place for you! Oh, and the booze is pretty reasonable too!

Three of us ate here on A Friday evening. We all had the early bird menu, which is great value at €19.95 for three courses plus a glass of wine. There is a great choice on the menu which is good. We opted for meatballs, chicken wings and a soup for starters and all three of us had the chicken Fajitas for mains. We finished the meal with the tequila and lime cheesecake. Service was excellent. Highly recommended for a relaxed bite to eat and seems to cater well for large groups.

I went with my partner on a Friday night before heading to the cinema. There were 2 large groups and we waiting around 40minutes for our food which I thought was a bit too long and meant we had to rush our meal. Staff are friendly and helpful and the food was very good with quite large portions. I would definitely visit again as long as I was in no hurry to be anywhere after!

My girlfriend and I availed of the Early Bird on Sat 2nd july. There was a very large crowd already seated and we had to wait a few minutes for a table. However, we were very efficiently seated and served a reasonably good if not very good early bird menu (with plenty to choose from). I noted how efficient the staff were at serving, clearing tables etc. but yet they made time to talk to everyone at the table. Before we left there was a queue of 20+ people standing outside waiting to get in. I think that is a sure sign of a good restaurant. For what was a very busy kitchen I'm sure our food was presented very well and tasted quite good too. I had the Sizzling Chicken fajitas. Nice, but lacked flavouring, even salt! But we seemed to be the only table there without salt and pepper?? Now I am just being picky, but I think a 3course early bird meal with a glass of wine for €9.95 each was very good value. I left feeling full, satisfied and I had the sense that I had an enjoyable meal. I will definitely return.

Arrived here at 6.30 on a Wednesday night. I have the grab one deal of 50 euro voucher for 25 euro!! I was just treating my girlfriend to a meal out so I let her decide for both of us from the menu. We order the garlic bread with cheese, nachos & guacamole and king prawns. All ok, nothing special. I thought the nachos would have been tastier from other reviews on menupages but they were extremely bland. Would defo not recommend. Then we shared chicken fajitas for two. Again only ok. Not bad food. Just would rush back in a hurry. Good value thou.. 3 starters, 2 mains glass of house red and a mojito all came to 53 euro.

This was my 2nd time at this restaurant. I really enjoyed the food the 1st time but I went with a big group and the place was very tight for space. As the food was so good I went back with my bf and I really did enjoy again. Not exactly romantic as you are very VERY close to table next to you. Would recommend a quick bit before a night on the tiles

I booked here for a friends birthday/ girlie catch up. We all decided to go directly after work and luckily so as we could avail of the fantastic early bird menu. One of the best early bird menu's I have come across yet. As I cant eat dairy I was limited in the desert but had options in the starters and main. The chicken wings are gorgeous ( even without the blue cheese dip) and the rather un-Mexican fish and chips were light fluffy and utterly yum. The others day the burger- which I was told was only "alright, nothing special" and the fajitas which were " seriously yum" I liked it so much I've already been back perfect pre/post cinema treat

Great value lunch menu at €10 for a tapa starter and a main course. The menu has a good selection to choose from and the portion sizes are very generous. I had a nacho tapa for starter which was lovely and enchilados for a main which were also good. The restaurant is nicely decorated in a mixture of rustic and modern creating a nice atmosphere to spend a couple of hours in.

What a great value for money restaurant! My boyfriend and I went here after work on a Friday and availed of the early bird. We had not booked and did not have to wait to be seated. The food was beautiful and the portion sizes were perfect that we were not stuffed and were able to fit in a few drinks afterwards! The service was good, apart from we had to remind them about our main. There were a lot of busy bees working away to keep the place ticking over so the only thing was we did not get service from one waiter, but many different faces. Overall very good experience

My husband & I went as a treat for his birthday. I'm not really mad about Mexican food but I would go back in a minute!!! Service was very friendly but a bit slow: we didn't care as we were enjoying ourselves. The food was just delicious!!! I had the chicken starter, which I don't normally go for but it sounded interesting and it was. The honey and mustard complemented each other really well. For mains I had the prawn chimichanga and my husband had the chili con carne. We both really enjoyed them. With 2 starters, 2 main courses, 2 desserts, 2 mojitos, a Coke and 2 coffees the meal didn't cost more than €50.00 and I didn't have the early bird menu. Really good experience overall.

Love love love this place! This is my second time here and once again I was very impressed. My partner and I decided to go for a lunch. We had the large portion of patatas for starter with the spicy tomato sauce. Even though it wasn't spicey as it said it was, the sauce resembled tomato brushetta which I love! and the portion size was huge! for only 4.50. Then for our lunch he had spicey cajun chicken wrap. It was a huge portion! The chicken was warm and the sauce was yummy! He also got chips on the side which we were not aware came with the wrap. All for 6.95. I had the smoked chicken salad with pine nuts. Was delicious and very filling! Chicken was moist and the entire salad was very flavoursome with not too much sauce. Fab quality for only 7.95. We were just as impressed this time as the last and we will deffinately be back with prices that good where the food is still satisfying! The only down side was that it wasn't very busy and the restaurant lacked atmosphere at this time.

Had heard al lot of good things about cactus jacks and was dying to try it. I have to say found it immensly enjoyable. We arrived without a booking so there was a small waiting time but nothing to major. We then ordered the platter to share for starter and the chicken fajits to share for mains. Thought the platter was lovely with its mix of quesidallas, wings and potato skins. the fajitas were lovely aswel. Real toss up between here and my other favourite.

Stuck for somewhere to eat in a hurry we found ourselves deciding between pancakes, italian and mexican and we chose Cactus Jack's - I ordered tortillas and was pleasantly surprised to find they came with a proper bowl of pretty good chilli as opposed to the usual spoonful of chilli on top you get in other place. The service was good, but a little bit practiced - all the right things said, but not much genuine friendliness.

We ate here and had the early bird menu which was great. Starter, main, dessert AND a glass of wine for only 19.95! Brilliant value. Starter I had calamari which was lovely, really nice bite to it and lightly dusted with lovely cajan spices. My OH had the chicken wings which looked good but messy. The blue cheese dip was nice. For main I had veggie fajitas, the only hot Mexican veggie option. It was good, served with sour cream, salsa and guacamole (delish). OH had the burger which he said he enjoyed. It was a nice treat to get dessert for free as I would normally opt for starters rather than dessert. I had the profiteroles which were so tasty, there were too many of them (8) but unfortunately I ate them all down - so good. He had the tequila and lime cheesecake, which was right amount serving but not much of a tequila taste. But he ate it all. Our waiter was really nice, just that perfect level of being helpful without being over bearing. I had the menupages voucher and he very politely told me it couldn't be used for the early bird (which is fair enough as its such good value) but let me know I was welcome to use it any other time. As we were there the place started to fill up and had a great atmosphere to it, like the start of a very exciting night. Would defo recommend it.

Had wanted to try this one for a while. The Early Bird Menu is great value (19.95 for 3 courses). I had the nachos to start; liked that the toppings were served separately from the nachos themselves to avoid sogginess. Delicious, just the right kick to them with the jalapenos and the right amount of cheese (as in not too much!) My friends had the calamari which they pronounced to be perfectly cooked. The mains were also quite good, the burger was great although the chorizo slice was a little rubbery and I had to remove it from my burger. Had ice cream to finish, although I did try the very intriguing tequila and lime cheesecake. A little too 'limey' for my liking but the ice cream was good. My only little peeve was that 3 waiters came over to ask if we were ready to order within 15 minutes of us arriving, after informing the first waiter that we were waiting for someone else. One of the waiters was particularly friendly though, which I do always appreciate. Will definitely go back here again!

Was shopping in town on Saturday with a friend of mine. Before we knew where we were it was after 5 and we were feeling hungry! As is the case in town it is very hard to decide where to eat with so many places to choose from. She had no preference as to where she wanted to go, so I suggested Cactus Jacks as I know she likes fajitas. We were offered a choice of where we would like to sit. We opted for the early bird menu which was great value 3 courses and a glass of wine at 19.95. The food was tasty and there was plenty of it. Although some of the beef in my fajitas was a bit grisly it was nicely flavoured. The restaurant filled up very quickly and there was a lively feel. The staff were very friendly and effcient despite the fact it was so busy early on a Saturday evening. There was no rush on us to leave which was great as the weather made a turn for the worst. So we sat watching the hailstones whilst soaking up the atmosphere!

myself and the lady went here last night after reading reviews here. We had no reservation and they were quite busy but still were able to fit us in. the table they gave us was right beside the kitchen doors but we were promised a move when another table was freed up - which, true tho their word they did. Food was lovely and the atmosphere was nice - mood lit and with a long narrow layout it felt cozy without being intruding. Service was very good and we said we would be quite happy to go back.

I had never been to Cactus Jack's before but saw the 19.95 3course offer with glass of wine and couldn't resist. Met with a friend who I hadn't seen in a good while and so glad we picked here as we had such a nice relaxing time. From the start, the staff were pleasant, efficient and helpful. The starters we selected were Guacamole with Tortilla chips( delish although found the chips a bit greasy) and Louisiana Chicken wings (spicey..yum!). We both had Chicken Fajitas. Generous portions and extremely tasty. Followed by Porfiteroles. All washed down with a glass of house wine. Was wonderfully full and left with every intention of returning. Overall, great food and service and you can't go wrong for 20 euro. :-)

We ate here before a concert and really enjoyed it. The early bird menu is very good value 3 courses and a glass of wine for €20. Chili Nachos and Chicken wings for starters, really good size portion, both lovely and spicy. For mains, we each tried something different. I chose the cod in beer batter, really a large portion with delicious home cut chips, my friend had teh latino burger which was topped with chorizo and cheese and was equally as delicious. for dessert we both chose the lime and tequila cheesecake, very nice! The staff were very friendly and efficent even though the restaurant was busy with a large hen party. Will definitely be back,.

I was there (for the first time) for dinner with my partner last night and both of us were delighted with the food. He chose to go with the early bird and I had just the main course Platillo Ceviche (perfect for seafood/fish lovers like myself). Everything was delicious and there wasn't a crumb left! Staff were very friendly and attentive from the momnet we arrived. Very pleased with service, food, atmosphere and value… I got a 25% discount on my selection! Highly recommend it. We’ll be coming back for more soon. .

Went here for lunch on a Saturday A'noon and will definitely be returning. They have a good tapas menu with an offer for 3 dishes for €10 and the portions are very generous. I would definitely recommend the Homemade Nachos with Guacamole. The staff were very polite and the restuarant itself has a comfortable interior with large windows to watch the crowds go by. Its a thumbs up from me!

We went here last night with a party of about 18. Got good value for money and food was ok. I expected food to be better from the reviews i read from menu pages. I had chicken wings for starter and the "1/2 pound" latino burger for mains. Wings were average, burger was very small in size but it was tasty. It had a good kick to it. My girlfriend had the chicken quesadilla for starter, with vey little chicken, more like sauce with your quesadilla, was again ok. She also had chicken with a bed of rice and veg, chicken was good but again i thought just ok(i tried it). Overall i wouldnt go back as there are plenty better places out there. Staff were good and quick service, great value as well..

I was here once before & wasn't overly impressed but decided to give this place another shot for an evening out with the girls. Mistake! I picked this place because teh atmosphere is really good for a girls night out...you can relax with tasty cocktails and a good chat in a bustling environment. Apart from this though there were few positives. The service was poor, we had a different waiter every few minutes which caused problems with the bill & was distracting when we were asked so many times what we'd like to eat/drink when we had already ordered from another waiter. The food is cheap but I wouldnt say good value as you get what you pay for. I got the steak fajitas and although it was wonderfully seasoned the beef looked like the nasty scraps discarded from a nicer piece of meat. Also The potatoe skins on the shared platter we had were still half raw in the middle! A pleasant treat I have to admit were the profiteroles which were huge and so tasty. Also the strawberry margherita pitcher we had was nice. Biggest let down though, which ruined my whole experience, was the bill. We had to send it back 4 times because we were overcharged! First they didn't take our menupages voucher off (25% discount on total), then they charged us the service charge for 6+ people even though we were only 3, then they removed the service charge but again forgot the 25% off. This was most likely because a few different waiters handled the bill. Please one waiter allocated per table...makes a big difference!! It was unprofessional and unpleasant, not even an apology for our numerous complaints. If you do go here study the bill very carefully! I will not be going back any time soon

Service was very good. The food was great i got the platillo ceviche for my main and if you like seafood i would recommend it. It's in a good location for the luas and any bus that goes along the quays. The restaurant was full and buzzing but that didn't affect the service or quality of the food. Big thumbs up :)

Came here with a group of 10 for the early bird. Spoke to a lovely guy when booking the table. Came in and was greeted by a woman that had more than enough attitude to bear. Wasnt friendly and took away from the place. They need to address this. She was sour, a little rude and when bringing us to our table, she walked down the restaurant a few feet as if to check the table was ready (you could clearly see it was) and then hollered at us to follow her. Not nice. However, our main waiter was fabulous. He was patient, efficient & could help one person in the group with her options as she is coeliac. Other servers kept coming up to us and asking the same questions over and over. "Are you ready to order?" two minutes later "are you ready to order?" Needs to be more communication between staff. The one waiter and the food more than made up for these little things. Food was heart and delicious. Simple but good. Not one compaint from the table. Its not your traditional Mexican fare - more Tex-Mex - but good food & good atmosphere. Would I come again? yes - if i had to go to the cinema or had a busy day shopping and didn't fancy elsewhere.

Tried the lunch menu recently and enjoyed it. Had the garlic muscles and then the cassoulet. Both very tasty and was good value at e13 for 2 courses at lunch time.

Came in here after some shopping in town, place was very busy but we got a seat know problem. I was expecting the service to be bad when I saw how crowded it was but I have to say service was great. We got the wings for starters which were good but I would recommend getting the sauce on the side (It was piled on) and burgers for our mains. I though mine was a bit dry and salty but himself loved his. I would come back as it was very buzzy and lively and again service was great, beer was expensive at E5.30 a bottle!!

went here about six months ago for the twenty euro special, the food that day was very good but sadly my second visit was a huge disappointment, My starter of soup was ok nothing special nothing terrible either but my friends dish of chicken wings were soggy and not crispy as expected, for mains I had vegetable fajitas which were a bit bland and the other diner had the so called cassoulet which was very unauthentic, The meal in general was very bland in comparison to my first visit, the staff were friendly and the restaurant is modern and well decorated.I hope they dont let the menu slip as it is great value when they get it right.

My girlfriend I arrived on a Wednesday night round 9 and the place was alive. We were greeted and seated by a very nice individual. We were not rushed to order even with the late hour. Thankfully we only ordered the regular Patatas with cheese and bacon, because it was a very big portion even for one person. They were very tasty indeed. My girlfriend got the Chicken Chimichanga for her mains which came on top of fried beans, she was very impressed. It was another big portion and she enjoyed every bite, even though she did not finish it.(saving room for dessert) I got the Supreme of Cajun Chicken. I thought it was delicious, the chicken was very succulent. And it was a nice size portion. After our mains we given time to enjoy a glass of wine before ordering dessert. My girlfriend got Chocolate Fudge Truffle Pie and being a chocoholic she found it to be delicious. I was very impressed with the establishment as a whole. And considering we had a starter, 2 main courses, 2 desserts and a bottle of wine for €60, you can't go wrong. The service was excellent, as was the food and there was a very pleasant, chilled atmosphere. I would highly recommend it to anyone, couples, groups, it would be a great choice for either.

Dined in Cactus Jack on a busy Saturday night and despite not having booking had a quiet pleasant experience. The food was simple but nice and the service could not be faulted. The only disappointment was the lack of wine choices by the glass, which I think could be expanded slightly in order to accommodate different tastes.

Myself and my boyfriend came here one Thursday evening for their Early Bird Deal. There was a nice busy atmosphere in the restaurant without it being overly packed. My only one negative was in relation to my Main Course…..I ordered the Chilli Con Carne thinking it would be minced beef that was used….only to find that it was beef chunks similar to in a stew. That aside this restaurant has a lovely modern décor and the staff were extremely polite. They even wrapped up our dessert to take away as we were in a bit of a rush. 3 courses and a glass of wine for €19.95- can’t beat that for value! I’ll definitely be returning!

Was in town with a friend and looking for somewhere to eat so we decided to go through Millennium way as you always get good food from one of the restaurants along the way. Always wanted to try this place so we looked at the menu and the price (early bird) and decided to try it and it was a great decision. It was 3 courses and a drink for under €20 you can't go wrong with that in this climate. I had the wings to start and they were beautiful my friend had the nachos and they were so tasty. I have to say even though it was an early bird they were not skimping on the servings. For mains we had burger and chips and fajitas and then onto desert where we both had profiteroles. We couldn't finish our deserts as we were stuffed from the other two courses. We had glasses of house red and it was a good wine not the cheap stuff some give with an early bird. All in all the service was excellent and the place was buzzing, well at those prices where wouldn't? I will definitely go back had a wonderful meal and a girls day out.

Went here for our work Christmas Party, it wasn;t my first time and I must say it was my most enjoyable vist to this restaurant. The place was quite busy with other christmas parties, but service was very good and we weren't rushed at all. I had the fajitas which were lovely. Everyone in our group (group of 12) were very happy. Will definately be back.

Had a family dinner here last night, booked for seven people and was told there would be e five euro deposit per person to my credit card as it was Christmas week. The staff were very accomadating when I subsequently rang to add numbers. Due to weather conditions our group was partly delayed in arrival and the staff were very helpful bringing drinks and giving us extra time. We decided to order from the early bird menu, three courses and a drink for twenty euro. Though my starter of guacomole wasnt to my taste, my family all enjoyed their choices. The chicken fajitas were delicious though the portions of salsa etc served with it were not sufficient. The dessert of tequila and lime cheesecake had no real flavour. Overall we had a pleasant experience but I don't think I will be rushing back.

Have been in a Mexican kind of humour lately and thought this place would be good. Absolute value for money and then some. Food was yummy and tons of choice on the menu. They even catered for vegetarians, and will take the meat out if possible from dishes. The early bird is fab, and they do skimp on the portion sizes. Would recommend this twice over, and will be going back soon.

Tried here again, and ordered the fish bites. Got a plate of chips, with deep fried batter. Was a serious shortage of fish!!. Very disappointed with the food. Value menu is only good with its fair portions of what is offered on the menu. A half a plate of batter with no fish inside is not good value, regardless of price charged.

Although it is not a truly authentic Mexican, the mix of Euro-Mex and some Spanish dishes works well here. I do think it is a shde off the mark with its Mexican food compared to some of even the burritto bars around town. Saying that, there is value for money here and the fajitas are always good. The decor and service is also good and for a night out with friends (good drinks too), it is a great spot.

Visited Cactus Jacks last night with a small group of friends as part of a package with the Laughter Lounge. I have never had a worse experience in a restaurant. Two of us wanted to order from the main menu and pay the difference and the manager was quite rude in their refusal to let us do this. I was left feeling embarrassed and patronised. I will never be visiting this restaurant again.

dropped in for a bite on a friday evening at about half seven. was greeted by a smiling waitress who accommodated our request for a secluded table. downhill from there though. first two dishes i wanted to order were on the menu but not available anymore. the dishes we did order didn't come with the sides promised in the menu. when we pointed this out we were begrudgingly given one of the two sides missing. this side was then charged to the bill and we had to point out that it shouldn't. food was bland also. could do better at home. avoid.

Went here for lunch with my parents and my son. Food was absolutly divine and we got loads. Nearly too much for lunch. My son who is two got sausages and spuds and these came out as soon as they were done which was great as they kept him occupied. I got a chicken enchilada and it was really yummi. I would have liked a little bit more sauce though. My dad got the beef enchilada and he found it very nice too. My mam had the chicken cajun wrap. She said it was a bit on the mild side and dindt have much of the cajun spices. Service was brilliant. Even though the restaurant was full and very busy during lunch we didn't have to sit and wait long for either service nor food. Would definatly go back!

Had lunch here today and was nicely surprised! We took advantage of the 3 for 10€ lunch special. The Meatballs, nachos, and quesadillas were fantastic. I will defintely be ordering them again! On the other hand though, I found that there was little flavour to the Tortilla espanola and the calamri were very chewy. I could have taken or left the patas with the cheese and bacon. They were perfectly cooked, but just missed that "bite" that I attach to tapas. The service was slow, but it was the end of the lunch rush and it appeared that there was only one poor rushed girl working. Overall great value, I am absolutely stuffed and will be returning, i would like to try other things on the menu! they looked lovely!

The early bird menu has really caught on in Ireland especially in these recessionary times and Cactus Jacks has taken it to the next level with the offer of a free drink (wine, soft drink or tea/coffee) as well as a proper three course meal, and all for less than €20. We decided to eat here recently while walking through the Italian Quarter looking for a quick bite to eat. Amongst the coffee shops and Italian restaurants, Cactus Jacks and their offer jumped out from the crowd. The restaurant was pretty busy for a wednesday evening but we were immediately seated next to the window by a very friendly staff member. There is a great selection of starters and mains on the early bird menu, and we both decided on the homemade guacamole for starters and then the 1/2 pounder latino burger and Veg Fajitas for mains. The guacamole was served in a round dish with a more than generous amount of lovely home made nachos and a small salad too. It was very tasty and we both finished off the entire dish. Our mains arrived pretty soon after, 1/2 pounder looked enormous and came with a large piece of chorizo, chipolte bbq sauce and monterey jack cheese and some fresh tasty chips on the side and the veg fajita was perfect, 3 fresh tortillas, guacamole, salsa and sour cream and enough spicy veg to do a hungry man. Desserts were nice, the tequilla and lime cheesecake a little sweet for my liking, but the profiteroles were good. Would recommend this place to anyone, especially if you get in before 7 for the early bird!!!

Yum yum yum is all I can say! Cannot fault this place at all, went here last night with my boyfriend for the Early Bird for €19.95, and it is exceptional value for what you get! For starters I got the Chilli Cheese Nachos, Chilli Con Carne for mains & profiterles for desert and all 3 were beautiful and very generous portions but not too much to leave you wedged before a night out!! The service was fantastic even though they had a huge crowd in for a 30 birthday but were still spot on with everything! Would definitely recommend Cactus Jacks to anyone, and perfect place for a nice meal to get you in the mood for a night on the tiles!!

I went here yesterday with friends and ordered from the Early bird menu which I had only experienced once a few months ago. As a vegetarian it was nice to see they had some options and also when we asked if we could have the nachos without the chilli they were more than willing and we were given a generous helping of nachos/jalapenos/sour cream/salsa and cheese as a starter. The food was very tasty and filling that we were almost full before the main. I opted for vegetarian fajitas and they don't scrimp on the amount of food here either, you are given a decent portion. The profriteroles were also delicious and accompanied by a glass of wine, all this for €20 really is a nice meal out and a nice place to go with your friends, especially if you're on a budget

We headed here on a Sunday evening, the four of us ordered from the early bird which was really good value. Wings and Chilli Cheese Nachos were tasty a decent size portion not small and not large and the fahitas had a good proportion of meat and veg. The cheesecake desert was also nice and light, not too heavy . All in all a good value meal for a Sunday evening.

Went here on Saturday night. It was very busy which is always a good sign. Food was very reasonably priced and the portions are huge. The quesadilla's were excellent as was the latino burger. It was a bit of a struggle to finish it all but I soldiered on through and managed it.

I was really looking forward to trying out a mexican restaurant who "catered for coeliacs", as it turns out that statement is somewhat misleading. When making the booking I enquired whether they catered for coeliacs just to make sure they did and they confirmed this was the case. Upon arrival I asked for the coeliac menu but they didnt have one, however the waitress took me through the menu, saying which items she was "pretty" sure I could or couldn't have. I was not 100% filled with confidence. As it turns out there are slim pickings for a coeliac who wishes to engage in the mexican expereince eg fajhitas, enchiladas etc. Considering there are readily available gluten free options for wraps and tortilla's I was really disappointed that I had to rule out all of these options, and opted for a cajun chicken dish. When the main course arrived it turned out that the cajun marinade was not suitable for a coeliac so what I received was a plain, dry breast of chicken, no sauce or flavouring whatsoever. I asked for pepper sauce (if gluten free) when ordering and the waitress said she would check with the chef and let me know if that wasn't suitable. When the food arrived, no pepper sauce, and she told me that she forgot to come back and let me know. The lack of communication about what I was actually going to receive in comparison to what I orderd was appaling. At the very least they should have told me the chicken was going to be plain and i could have ordered an alternative such as fish or steak. The reason I went with the chicken was to try something mexican and one of the specialities. This was an extremely expensive meal for a dry piece of chicken and I will certainly not be back to cactus jacks again unless they do something about the menu. If they ar not going to cater for coeliacs that is their choice but it shouldn't be advertised as a feature.

Was curious to try this place out as gets good reviews from people and I love Mexican food.Overall the food was nice but a little disappointing. My companion and I both had the quesadillas to start and the fajitas for main. The quesadillas had good flavour and were good size. The fajitas were nice but not nearly as strong a flavour as you would expect in a Mexcian restaurant. The restaurant is quite large and set out over 2 floors. They have good offers for the early bird.A good restaurant but wouldn't be rushing back for the food quality and taste.

There was no atmosphere in Cactus Jacks today, but it wasn't the restaurant's fault. We visited just after lunch, and only two tables were occupied. We just assumed that the 'rush' was over. It's a pleasant, nicely lit restaurant. I had a Burrito - cooked to perfection and very nicely presented, and my friend had Chicken Fajitas. We both enjoyed our meals, portions were plentiful - we couldn't face having dessert. Two soft drinks and the two meals came to €30 which is pretty good value for what we got. Only one negative aspect - despite the restaurant being practically empty, we were left sitting for almost 15 minutes before our order was taken. We had to call the waitress and remind her we were there. She then looked surprised as if we'd just appeared! Overall it was a good experience. We were seated at the window and it was a bit worrying to observe the empty tables and chairs at the many eateries along that strip. Maybe it was just because it was immediately after lunch hour, but if not, it's a mystery as to how they're managing to stay in business.

opted for the 19.95 3 course with free glass of wine...great value! The calamari to start with was delicious, as was the Latino burger. My b/f loved the cheese nachos and declared the fajitas he ate the nicest he'd ever had! Dessert was also lovely, and the staff were friendly and very swift-will definitely return!

Make sure you dont eat the same day as going here...you get well fed! Food is always great, staff are attentive and prompt. Always end up absolutely stuffed, only because i cant stop eating it...so tasty...and then I always get dessert to top it all off. Toilets are always spotless, atmosphere does be pretty good and its not too pricey. Back again without a doubt!

Just went there today for their 3 course early bird and free glass of wine....great value. Nice easy vibe in the place and the service was very quick. Me and my partner enjoyed every bit of food, was all very tasty...expecially the guacamople and homemade nachos...well i think they were were homemade as they werent the bagged version! Only complaints i had which can be seen as good complaints was that the food was served very quick and the plates were cleared very quick. Didnt have much time between each course...but all in all...will go back...again...its a regular haunt!

Went to this restaurant as I wanted something close enough to Hueston station as we were heading from there to the airport. Had booked a table for 10pm and the restaurant was pretty empty at that stage so cant really comment on atmosphere etc. The food was fantastic - I had a burrito and my boyfriend the chimichonga. Both were really nice & tasty. We are both fans of Mexican food so we were very impressed. Two huge portions also - not sure how anyone would have room for starters and desserts. We had a nice bottle of rose which complemented the food perfectly. Two mains and a bottle of wine in Dublin city centre for 50 euro - cant really go wrong there!

Second time to eat here and won't be last. Food really tasty, good atmosphere. Had the chimichanga which was great. Reasonably priced too with plenty of different offers on. Staff are really pleasant too.

Second vist here and won't be the last, very impressed and good value for money. We went for the 3 course for €19.95 and were delighted to see the offered under 12's eat free. Starters we ordered calamari, and chilli cheese nachos, followed by a main course of latino burger with chorizo and a variety of sauces and chicken faijits. The kids had cocktail sausages, fries, peas ??????? I know odd choice but that our little ones for you! Good portion sizes and great atmosphere, family friendly place. Would highly recommend.

Three of us stopped here for the Early Bird Special. At 19.95 for 3 courses and a drink (either wine or a soft drink) it seemed like good value. The layout and decor of the restaurant is good, with good views onto the Millenium Walkway for people watching and lovely, rustic wooden tables. We weren't very adventurous with our starter as the three of us chose the Louisiana Hot Wings from a selection of 6. They were decent, average wings. A good size for a starter with about 7/8 each and a side dip of blue cheese to go with them. For mains, I had the fish & chips which wasn't wasn't very Mexican but was made up of 3 large cod goujons, a large portion of fries and a salad. It was absolutely fine. Another friend had the Latino Burger which he found very tasty, nice spice from the jalapenos and a good bowl of chips on the side. The best main of our choice was the fajitas which my sister had. A sizzling platter full of beef fillet & chicken pieces (she did better than a previous reviewer as there was a lot of beef & chicken) with peppers and onions. It came with soft tortilla wraps and a selection of 3 dips/spreads. The bite I had was very tasty and she was really happy with it. For dessert we were again unadventurous, but were stuffed at this stage and all chose the selection of icecreams. Standard vanilla, strawberry & chocolate. Overall, with the 3 glasses of wine we got we thought the Early Bird was good value & the service was excellent.

1st Visit and we were shown upstairs. (Much nicer atmosphere and lay out) in my opion but only us and 2 other tables. We opted to share the combo starter. O.K. but have had better. The potato skins badly needed salt (and I seldom if ever add salt at the table). Mr. Boop chose the Fajitas (mixed beef and chicken) but was hard pressed to find any beef. 3 tiny pieces and a few pieces of slightly bigger chicken. The whole dish was FULL of mixed peppers. So a bit of a disappointment (although the flavour quite nice if there had been more meat). My choice of the Latino Burger sound mouth watering on the menu, but again a little disappointing for the money. Have had far nicer and again beef in need of salt. Was an alright meal, but won't be rushing back again any time soon as much better options elsewhere.

Myself and my husband ate here on Thursday afternoon at an odd time of around 3pm. We were the ony ones in the restaurant. It's a lovely looking place and the staff were very nice too. The food arrived very quickly but that was perfect for us and to be expected as we were the only customers. I had the meatballs and my husband had the patata brava for starters. Both excellent dishes. We went for the mexican options (from a big varied menu), me for enchilada and him for Burrito. I expected beef in mine but it was more steak. Still it was tender and tasty and I had all the trimmings ! With a coffee, 1 coke and 2 beers it was great value at €44. Although I have to add the coffee was not good at all. Would like to return and try other food on the menu, lovely location too.

Came to this restaurant with my sister on a Saturday for the 3 course early bird menu. It was great value and had a good variety of choice for an early bird menu. The atmosphere was lovely and the service was prompt. For my starter I had the Homemade Guacamole which had a lovely zingy taste to it. For my mains Chicken Fajitas which were just right and the dessert was Tequila And Lime Cheesecake which was different but tasty. All in all a good experience.

Good food and helpful service - and I'm a coeliac vegetarian so I'm an awkward customer. Starters were very big and tasty - could really eat my main dish and boyfriend was the same. Generally nice place with friendly staff - is a little pricey though

Came here last Sunday evening after reading the reviews on here. ill keep it simple but to the point. Yeah the waiting staff are kinda useless. he forgot my Diet Coke and one of teh side orders. However once we reminded him it was quick and with a smile. the food is the reason you come here, and its the reason ill return. Good food, cheap as chips, and you leave feeling full and satisified. Speed the staff up if they forget your food and dont TIP if your unhappy with them.. but enjoy the food!

Came here without a reservation on a Friday night (albeit quite early) and were seated in a great table in the middle of the restaurant. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. However the service was very slow (but not necessarily bad). We had a show to go to and just about made it so I wouldn't recommend eating here if you're tight for time.

A friend recommended Cactus Jack's for good value and great food. We didn't have a booking but managed to get a table sraight away even though it was busy. The food was great, very good value. The only negative point was the service. Very slow taking the order, bringing the food and drinks. If you have time to spare, this is a great place!!

Went with a friend for a casual lunch and grabbed the early bird. €20 for starter, mains, dessert and a glass of wine. The nachos starter was very nice, although the chilli was slightly too rich for me. The burgers were delicious, I had a Latino burger and was really impressed. dessert was simple but delicious. Huge portions and the wine was very nice. The service was very quick and staff friendly and cheerful! Nice atmosphere in the restaurant and was spotless and very chic. Would definitely go again, and would love to try the fajitas next time.

A group of us went for some food here. They had just introduced their new menu and we ordered a few tapas to share, some Nachos, Gacamole which were really amazing. The Service was below average as they forgot about the table and took forever to bring drinks. This was a little dissapointing because the place was not busy at all. I ordered the Fajitas and i have to say they were absolutely amazing and were cooked to perfection. The wine was amazing and the atomosphere was very relaxed overall a great place to sit down and have a laugh and enjoy good food

Three of us went here for dinner. The atmosphere was lovely but we found it very hard to get the attention of any of the waiters/waitresses. When we got the food it was absolutely beautiful and the wine was great value. For a nice meal with friends I would definitely recommend it and they do some great "made for sharing" dishes.

As a lover of mexican food, I've always been more than a bit dissapointed with Cactus Jacks. Dull, uninspiring - the safest possible mexican food, with not much imgination at all. Pity, cos' the location is great and the staff are friendly..

Myself and my 5 mates turned up after searching for a bargain of an early bird offer, which is certainly what we got. 3 courses and wine ! Starters I had calamari, it was probably a little too well cooked as it was a little bit tough. The set up with the dishes for the calamari is a little awakard, but easily worked around. Main I had the sizzling chicken fajita. Divine! just enough chicken and vegetables and sauces. I would like to have had another tortilla. 4 were provided and I did fine myself cramming as much in and making a mess. But in saying that it was very tasty. Ice cream with chocolate sauce was the perfect follow up .. along with the wine. Great service, nice and bright and airy and great for people watching too. Also good for large parties. Waitress were very attentative and engaged with our group quite well. Service tip was included on the bill (as was party of 6) Also the bathrooms were spotless!

This restaurant is excellent value for money with an early bird meal for 19.99 including a glass of wine. I just read this is also available on Sundays so I will definitely be back on a Sunday. I had the quesidillas for starter and fajitas for main, both were gorgeous and very generous portions. In fact myself and my friend were so full we skipped desert. There were about 4 items to choose for desert all looked delicious, maybe next time I will fit one in! Still 20 euro is a bargain for 2 courses and a glass of wine. The menu for the early bird is more varied than other restaurants and the quality of food is very high. A great place to go after work or before a movie, I will certainly be back. The service was a little slow however the positives made up for this one negative aspect of our meal here.

my boyfriend and i visted here on sunday evening and really enjoyed the meal. We had the early bird special that is available all day sunday and thought it was excellent value for money. We both had the cajun calamari for starters. They were devine and i had the chicken fajitas for main, while my boyfriend had the beef burito. Both were delicious. We both had teh chocolate cake for desert. We were both stuffed as the portions are extremely generous. I would definately visit here again but perhaps not before a night out as it was quite filling.

my wfe and i both went here for lunch, they hsve ecellent vslue on lunch snd earlybird menus, with a main and tea/coffee for 10e or 3 courses for around 16e, staff always friendly and helpful and the place very well presented. we both felt let down by the food as both our mains appeared to ahve been cooked awhile prob the day before and then reheated several times. and my cappuccino was very weak and watery. otherwise our portion were very generous esp for lunch menu. defo worth a visit in the evening for cocktails and awarm up before heading out as i think the food quality is much better in the evening rather then during lunch time

Was here last night with my mother. Looked at the early bird special which was €19.99 for 3 courses with a glass of wine. Excellent value, however a bit too much for us so we just went to the A La Carte menu. Lots of choice. I had the chicken with choriso, it was lovely. Then finished off with fruit tarte for dessert with tea. Restaurant was half full, and service was a little slow, however there was only one guy serving so he was doing a very good job. Would definately come back!

A group of 12 of us enjoyed the €19.99 menu including a glass of wine. The food was tasty and filling, but not too spicy for the more conservative palates in the group. All enjoyed the food, and the wine (we moved onto bottles, good value at €15 after the complimentary glass). Service was friendly and efficient, and the atmosphere good. Excellent value and worth a visit if the menu is to your liking.

The early bird all day Sunday menu looked v good here on menupages and after strolling round Dublin for the afternoon I was starving and ready for some good mexican food! Sadly I was terribly disappointed. At 20euros for 3 courses and a glass of wine it seems like a good deal...however...the restaurant was freezing clod and the table of diners next to us had thier coats on for the entire meal! I ordered the chicken wings with blue cheese dip to start...how is it possible to get such tiny and I mean TINY wings on a chicken??A miniscule portion and the blue cheese dip was merely watered down mayonaise. I had chicken fajitas for my main...fairly large portion of overly greasy chicken which was hot and sizzling however it was lacking in flour tortillas and the accompanying guacamole was revolting. The small glass of house wine was ok and the dessert was below average. I will not be back or recommend this place.

Dined here yesterday evening and i'll definately be back. The early bird 3 course & glass of wine for €20 is excellent value and the food is gorgeous & the portions are very generous. I had the Chicken Quesadillas (yummy) and my sis had the Chick Wings which she loved. For mains I had the Chilli Beef Burrito & my sis had the Garlic & Lime Chicken...we swapped as I found the beef a bit too spicy(im a wimp!) she loved the burrito and I loved the chicken dish...2 tequila & lime cheescakes to finish and we were both well happy leaving. Must also mention the staff were great, attentive but not in your face and didnt rush us out the door at the end either.

Stopped off for the early bird on friday about 6:30, place was fairly empty so was a bit worried but it was early, waiter was quick to show us to a table and ask was it ok for us, gave us the menu and explained the early bird which we went for, I had quesadillas and she had salad, said it was the best she ever had, for mains enchiladas and pan fried chicken, it wasnt the usual small amount you get for early birds in some places, it was well served and very tasty, glass of wine each and desserts x 2, all for €40. service was prompt and friendly, dying to go back again, the place was full when leaving and more people waiting in the lobby,

Enjoyed using my menu points here, great food and lively atmosphere. Early bird is really great value, especially with glass of wine included. Highlights were fajitas and chicken caesar salad on early bird menu, will be back for more! Restaurant was short staffed and supervisor went out of his way to make sure we were OK despite having to wait to be served- fire those staff that let you down, as everything else about the restaurant was fab!!

Called in here last night with a friend. we got the early bird menu and I was pleasantly surprised. There was a good number of options for each course. I had the Buffalo Wings to start and a prawn wrap thing for main, my friend had soup and chicken fajitas. It was great value and the food was excellent

Go here quite a bit, love the early bird menu option. However last visit was poorest as regards to service, waiter not very friendly at all which was very disappointing seeing as I brought a friend visiting from another country there for dinner. Would still go back though, great food and value for money.

I won't be returning to Cactus Jacks. I've been there many times before with different friends and thought the food was tasty and good value but the most recent visit ended very badly when I had to argue with the staff about using the menupages voucher (Free Main for 1,500 points). I had no problem using this voucher in the past and was disappointed that an otherwise very nice meal was tainted by a heated row in front of other diners when we settled up the bill. Customer service (which was fine until that point) went out the window once we disputed the bill. We eventually reached a compromise but the evening was ruined. I'll save myself the hassle next time and bring my custom elsewhere.

My friend and I went here for the early bird - Starter, Main, Dessert and glass of house wine or a soft drink for 20 euro. We both had calamari for starters. This was served with salad and salsa. It was absolutely delicious, I would have enjoyed more. For mains we had the burger. Which was also really tasty. I had lemon cheesecake which was really good. The house red wine was alright. Overall this was a great fine and I will definitely be back.

I've visited here twice and will definitely be returning as Mexican food is my favourite type of food. The first time, I think the waiter was new and got my boyfriends dish wrong. My boyfriend ordered the steak medallions but he was given the surf and turf. We realised the waiter was new and decided not to put him under pressure. The service for drinks was very slow, as we had to remind them that we ordered wine. The second time was much better and the food and srvice was excellent, but both times the restaurant was very empty. The food is simple Mexican, but done well and garnished nicely and presented very well.

Great value for money. I got the early bird (€19.95 for 3 course and glass wine) food was really tasty and service was quick and friendly. It's not spectacular or fancy. It is simple, tasty and superb value. The restaurant itself is clean, stylish and has a nice atmosphere when busy.

I used my menupoints voucher here. It was pitched for any free main. However, my GF wanted to order from the early bird so the waiter said he would give us 2 early bird meals fro the price of one if we'd prefer that. I thought this was very accommodating of them. And boy is the early bird menu good value. 3 courses and a drink for 20 euro. This place does what it does well. This food is not culinary masterpieces but it is damn tasty.

Great Place. Went here on Sat nite a group of 8 of us for a Christmas get together. All of us ordered from the Christmas Menu, 3 courses for €24.95. Excellent choices on it, food was lovely( I highly recommend the tequila and lime cheesecake), service was great, staff very attentive, and also very freindly. Couldnt recommned this place highly enough for a fun, cheap night out.

Went here last night with a friend for our pre Christmas dinner, the place was busy but not to hectic that you couldn’t even talk. We both went with the early bird menu as it was such good value and the menu itself had a great selection which isn’t always the case. We both choose the Fajitas dish for our mains which was delicious, as was everything else and the waiters were lovely, catered to our every need. Great service, good food and excellent value…I would certainly go back

went here for a girls night out and would be back again. The place was buzzing on an early Thursday evening. Their early bird special was definately drawing the crowds in at €20 for 3 courses plus a drink. We all decided to order from the main menu and food ranged from beef nachos to start to chicken faijtas, burger and chicken supreme for mains. All was excellent. We ordered wine and cocktails and all in all had a great evening. Staff were friendly and efficient.

Ate her recently for lunch with two other people. We had the 2 course lunch special. I had the chilli stuffed potatoes to start and the fajitas. The others had the chicken wings and goujons to start and fajitas aswell. The portions are so big, I was stuffed after the first course! Both the fajitas and the potatoes were so nice. We all enjoyed what we ordered however the girl who got the chicken wings, thought thye could have been nicer. Will eat here again though i will eat less next time!!

I had just enough menupoints to redeem at cactus jack so I took the opportunity to bring my friend out for dinner since her birthday was around the corner.Golly, the specials going on for lunch and dinner are simply sensational. For a mere e10-there is a 2 course lunch deal while for e19.95 gives you a 3 course meal and wine/drink.Service was prompt and most attentive. Both me and my mate took the prawn chimchiminaga prawns and enjoyed the succulent prawns.Despite the generous portions and deals I'm pleased that they did not compromise size for quality. Will definitely be back for more.

A large group of us(14) came here from work. There is a wide range of dishes for vegetarians which is great for me! I had the garlic bread with cheese for starter which was lovely and the vegetarian fajitas, which were deliciously spicy! I was very full at this stage but decided to try out the lime and tequila cheesecake which was amazing. The service was very good and most of our food arrived at the same time. Overall we had a very pleasant experience in Cactus Jack's and I would recommend it to everyone!

Ate here recently with my husband and two kids. We decided to go in after seeing their early bird menu. 3 courses and glass of wine or mineral for 19.95. The service was great from the minute we got in. More than welcoming and helpful towards the children. Food was nice not the best you ever had but for the price and service we will be back.

Excellent early bird!!! Had 3 courses and a glass of wine for €20. Overall the food was great and unlike most early bird menus we were spoilt for choice. However the burrito was Extremely spicy. So much so I couldn't eat it. The staff were very nice about it though and offered me something else. Great for a romantic meal or dinner with friends. Something for everyone! I would definitely return, it's one of my favorites!!!

went here last night with some friends, had the early bird menu @€20 each. Very disappointing. Food was utterly flavorless. so much so that my friend attempted putting salt on it to try and give it a bite!!! Had the chicken Fajitas which consisted of a tiny amount of chicken and mainly a plate of peppers & onions. We left at around 8 pm, there were only 2 diners left at that stage and I'm not surprised.

Went there at night with 3 friends, the place not that busy. Food was very average, my main course had very little meat and was mostly just peppers and onion despite the menu saying combo (beef & chicken). The one bit of chicken i did get had bone attached. Not pleasant & deff not good value. Place was very quiet and the staff were appauling to the point that we were never offered us a desert menu and never asked if we would like tea or coffee. We just grabbed the bill and headed. Pity really as it's a lovely place but i can't see myself heading back any time soon as a result of the service and small meat portions.

This is a really great place to head for a bite to eat after a day shopping. It's convenient, good value and has a great atmosphere. The waiting staff are friendly and the service was quite quick. I went with a number of children, and the waiter treated them wonderfully, asking them what their order was and making them feel very special. Definately a child-friendly restaurant. The drinks were lovely and the food was tasty. Definately one to head back to.

I had the early bird menu with 5 friends. The one for €19.95, we had been pretty confused before we arrived as we had heard 3 different prices. Anyhow still good value for 3 courses and a "small" glass fo wine. I had the chicken wings to start. Very spicy but with a delicious blue cheese sauce to tame the heat. Followed by the fajitas, which were well presented on a sizzle dish. I do agree with a previous reviewer, in that 3 tortillas just isn't enough for the huge amount of chicken and vegetables that I received (all of which was delicious). To finish up the meal, I chose the Lime & Tequila cheesecake. Which disappointingly was very mild tasting. Still lovely but not as strong flavour at all. Fantastic service and there was no problem in us sitting around to chat after the meal. Brilliant value.

Eight of us went for lunch on a Friday. Drinks were brought quickly and then the food staggered out. The last plate that was brought was an incorrect order so one person had to wait ten minutes after the rest to receive their order. Accidents do happen so it was easily forgivable with the quality and size of the food. Two of us had the fajitas which were excellent. The guacamole could be improved a bit, and more tortillas given (only three, not nearly enough for the huge plate of meat and peppers) but what was there was very delicious. Everyone else was very satisfied with their burgers, enchiladas, and burritos. I'll be back again but would like to not have to chase down the waiter for the bill in the non-busy restaurant next time.

went for an early bird in here with my best mate. the place was quieter than I had ever seen it, but it was a Monday evening. EUR16.95 for starter, main course, dessert and beverage/glass of house wine. Great value! Good range of choice for an early bird menu aswell. however a couple of the dessert choices were not available that night as they had apparently run out. The waitress was very nice and attentive, and we had a very nice chilled out meal while we caught up. With value like that, we'll certainly be going again.

This place is ideal for a casual dinner before going to the cinema just up the road. I went here with a friend one Thursday evening before going to the movies. The sevice here is brilliant and all the staff are very friendly and polite. The food is very good quality and the portion sizes are very substantial. I had the fajitas, quite spicy but absolutely delicious. My friend had the tacos which were also gorgeous. Definately worth a visit, will be going back soon.

Great midweek visit! I have eaten here a few times and always enjoyed it ...but I reckon they're going the extra distance now 'cos I'll certainly be going back and recommending to friends to go visit. 6 of us arrived about 20 minutes late at 7:20 and our table was ready. Downstairs was full. The early bird menu was at each place setting along with the a la carte. Early bird finishes at 7:00, but that was no problem we could certainly go for that menu. For *under* €17 you got choice of multiple starters (some were as big as mains!), lots of mains to pick from and I think a choice of about 3 desserts ...and wait for it ...a generously poured glass of wine. It doesn't get better than that methinks. The food? Excellent. I couldn't finish my mains. Definitely go check it out ...I cannot imagine you'll be disappointed.

A nice Mexican restaurant, I went here for lunch recently and had a tasty chicken enchilada which I washed down with a delicious virgin strawberry daquiri. It feels a little on the pricy side but portions are a decent size and the service was quite friendly.

Went on a Thursday after work. I have to say I was surprised to find the place empty(it hadn't livened up by the time we left). Service was great as a result. The food was decent but nothing amazing. Standard enough fare in my opinion. It was a good place to go for a bite to eat but I wouldn't be going there for an occasion.

Nice and Easy. This will be a short review, there's nothing much about this place, its not extraordinary and its not super delicious, but you just can't go wrong with it. You will leave satisfying, the food is always good (been there a lot many times now) and the service is always nicer, its ideal for a quick or lazy food when you just want to go out and eat. I find it (and recommend it) that due to its location along the quays, the atmosphere could be not very pleasant for late night dinner, try the early evening or late lunch options. Also, order a pitcher of Margarita with your tacos. :-)

I have been waiting fir the chance to go here for a long time.. everytime i pass i always insist it will be the next place i eat... I was somewhat disappointed when i got there in the end... Maybe its my take on what the food should be but i felt it was bland an nothing i couldn't make ten times better at home. Maybe the chef was having an off night but i will not be rushing back to give them a second chance anytime soon.

Must admit I was disappointed overall with my trip to Cactus Jacks. The staff were nice, accommadating us without much fuss on a Saturday evening with no reservation. The food however left a lot to be desired. For starters we shared chicken wings which arrived less than 5 minutes after we ordered, obviously not made to order. They were tasty but definately not cooked fresh. My main course of Fahita's was basically an enormous plate of mixed peppers with reheated steak. Some of the steak was so hard that I can only presume it was fried over and over again. The dish only tasted of whatever spice they had sprinkled on it while cooking it, couldn't taste the individual flavours at all. My partner had an Enchilda with pretty much the same result as myself, no way was it cooked fresh and same taste of herbs/spice as mine. Certainly will not be returning.

Overall, extremely average place. Service was nothing special, food just tasted of spice and nothing else, place was half empty on a saturday night which wasn't great for atmosphere. Nothing to really complain about but nothing great either.

Came here with a few mates. The staff were friendly and service was on time, no delays although it was a Friday. But then it wasn't too packed for a Friday. The chilli and nachos starter is worth trying out, plenty of it & very tasty. Main meals all round were good & more than enough. All in all we all left satisfied and I would consider visiting again.

There is a big sign on the window that says Paulo Tulio 2008 recommended which caught my eye that made me choose Cactus jacks. He must not have visited the place in 2009 however. The chicken wings were tastless and the chips were obviously frozen and reheated. The service was obviously changing when I arrived which was very apparent by the way I was served. Not a pleasant experience

I had my first visit here last night. I really enjoyed it, the service was great. Lovele atmosphere and decor. Food was delicious. Chicken Wings to start followed by Enchiladas - didn't have room for dessert, but look forward to it the next time. All round a great dining experience, I will definitely be back.

Ive been to this place twice and defo will go a third time. Nice enough for just a nice bit to eat (which was our first time) however we decided to make a 2nd visit and have a full dinner (starter, main and desert and coffie) Even the furnature is nice, nice wooden tables and glasses, cutlery etc was sparkling clean. Service was great considering my dining partner is a picky eater. Waitress was very accomadating without being hovering the table. Food as always is yummy. Chicken wings to start, big enough to share. Chilli style burger was yum and a delicious cheesecake....yum yum yum.

This place is ideal for a pre-cinema dinner. Food is really tasty. Had the beef enchiladas on my latest visit and was really impressed. Tasted gorgeous and big portion. Great value too

Simple restaurant, relaxing atmosphere, fine location, good service, to begin with. Foodwise, I found the enchiladas a bit tasteless and the side orders pretty much very basic (the guacamole tasted as if it had been just taken out of the freezer; the fries were as basic as you get them). My desert-cheesecake- was nothing special and possibly a ripe-off at euro 8.00 for a tiny slice of cake. I might give Cactus Jacks another try but I have the feeling that I would have pretty much a similar experience. Anyways, inconsistency has always been the rule in Dublin. Who knows...

This was the first time I ate here. We were a big group of friends having dinner. The fajita I ate was good. The food is 'Mexican - adapted to Europe', but that's what I like. The portions were big, stuff was nice and the prices are not high except for the deserts.

I've been to Cactus Jacks on Monday evening to celebrate my birthday. I used the Menupages voucher to pay for part of a meal and therefore the it seamed really affordable. The portions were enormous!!! Me and my partner felt quite full after we've finished starters... and none of us managed to go through the main course. The food was delicious; I say that although I'm not a fan of Mexican food! Service really kind, attentive and helpful. Very nice dining experience.

We use this place before we go cinema midweek never have to wait for a table, good fast service. We usually have a main course each and a drink each and always pay between €40-€50. Good value. Really like this place

Came on a Thurs evening, place was not too busy but looked inviting. Had two main courses, the burger with mango and the beef burrito, both excellent. The burrito was perfectly spicy, and the burger was the right size not to make it difficult to eat. I also ordered a mojito, which was pretty strong - it would have been better if they added more mixer and served it in a taller glass. Would visit again, the upstairs looks like it would be good for groups. They seem to be one of the few places in Dublin not doing an early bird of some sort, it would prob be worth their while to try one out.

Very disappointed. This used to be a lovely restaurant when it first opened. I went here for lunch and ordered a simple fahita. What was served looked like it had been reheated with the chili beans caked to the plate and spray on cheese blasted on top! It was tastless. Felt so robbed when the bill came. Definitely wont be back as have heard a lot of bad reviews lately.

We went for lunch here on a Wednesday afternoon. Got slightly worried as we arrived, there were only two other tables occupied, I don't like seeing empty restaurants at lunchtime. The waiter was very friendly and between us we chose the nachos, calamari, a burrito for himself and the enchiladas for me. The food is not authentic mexican but it's hot, tasty and there's lots of it. The only gripe we had about the whole experience was the chilli in the burrito was very overpowered by the dark chocolate in the sauce. There was way too much of it and as a result my partner couldn't finish his meal. The bill for all of the above and a bottle of Heineken came to €42.10 without service which I think is great value for what we got.

Myself and friends ate here before heading to a show at the o2, which isnt to far from the restaurant. I wouldnt say the food was authentic mexican but it was still really great, the nachos were pretty small so dont plan on just getting one if you have a group who wants to share. The margaritas were good, and the fajitas were great, very spicy but great. overall its a fun place to eat.

Admittedly, Dublin is not the place to find good Mexican food, but Cactus Jacks is the absolute worst I've had yet. It is as if the chef there has only heard of Mexican food conceptually and made up a menu that he thought appropriate. My "tacos" were actually asian stir-fry chicken and vegetables (which I suspect were from a frozen supermarket pack!) in cold flour tortilla wraps. The chips and guacamole we ordered for starters were made with flour, not corn, tortillas. Our Margaritas were good, but did not come as ordered "on the rocks", but rather, as martinis and they cost close to 9 euro each. There was no trace of aunthenticity about the place. And while the service was decent, I would never go back to this overpriced sham of a Mexican restaurant.

I ate here recently on a Friday night. Was quiet for a Friday but was still seat in a cramped area. I found the food cheap enough and plentiful. For the price you are paying the quality is good but not overly special. I was left stuffed after my starter and main which is always good. I would recommend for both couples and groups.

I have visited here twice and really enjoyed it both times. Last Friday 3 of us had a lovely meal, we had mojitos to get us going then shared the chillie cheese nachos. For mains, 2 of us had chicken fajitas which were really good the other person had the cajun chicken also lovely. We washed this down with a half bottle of wine each! We finished up with coffees and our waiters were great. Including a tip it cost €47 each which we thought was very good value for what we had, how we were looked after and the length of time we spent there.

I went in here on a Sunday night & the place was nearly empty. The nachos to start were very tasty & pleanty for two people. The chicken fajita I had for main was nice..nothing to write home about but perfectly tasty nonetheless. Service was friendly if a bit slow for an empty restaurant! All in all a cute little place with decent mexican fare at reasonable prices.

I´ve been trying to visit Cactus Jack for a good while, and I have only 2 things to say: 1- We waited a lot for each dish. 2- After we finished our main course, NOBODY ever came to clear our table. Finally we stood up, and we went to the till to pay.

Never had Mexican food before and was recommend to come here. I have nothing to come pair Cactus Jack's Mexican food with but I truly enjoyed it, had the Fajitas and chicken which came with three dips. The portions are quite big and totally worth the price. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Overall great restaurant!

Went for a quick bite here last night before a gig. Service was very friendly and our food arrived in good time. The chilli cheese nachos were very tasty, The supreme of chicken was beautifully spiced. Unfortunately my boyfriend's fajitas were nothing special. Overall, I think this place is good value for money and the quality of food depends on what you pick I guess as I had no complaints at all.

A group of 12 of us went on Friday night. I shared a potato melt starter which was delicious and was plenty for two. I had the fajitas combo which was excellent. The chicken and beef were both very tender and the mix of of peppers, onions and other bits and pieces was spot on. Unlike the main courses, the desserts were a bit small and overpriced. The only real downer, however was the service. One of our group was left without a main course and it took a lot of waving to get this point across to the waiters. I had to ask 3 different waiters over a period of 10 minutes for a water glass. The place was either understaffed or the staff were a bit disinterested. The 10% service charge is slipped in at the end of the bill without mention to what it is for. All in all, this was a good meal but overpriced. I would expect prices to come down in restaurants like this as the recession begins to bite.

Went here on a date a while ago.Top notch service and relaxed atmosphere. Main courses slightly disappointing but if you fancy a quick bite at reasonable price in nice part of town then it's a safe bet! The desserts are especially good-try teh brownie with a Baileys Coffee.

Very unimpressed with this place. Ordered the Fajitas, which I figred would probably be a stable of a place like this. Ended up paying €25 for something I could have whipped up for a fiver in a couple of minutes at hope. In fact if Id made this, I probably would have been ashamed to serve it to anyone, completely lacking in spice, mainly tasting of green peppers, which aren't exactly the most flavoursome. I had nacho's for starter, and these werre ok, but, probably only as good as the ones you'd get at a cinema. Waitress seemed to forget about us most of the time, and even ordering another bottle of wine was a chore.

I ate here last Thursday after the cinema. I'd been here once before and wasn't terribly impressed but thought I'd try again and this time my mind was changed. The place was very quiet for our 8.30 sitting but the staff didn't rush us and I didn't feel they were on top of us either. I ordered the vegeterian burrito which was tasty and my partner order the quarter pounder burger which loked nice too. The portions were huge as well. A nice restaurant if you're going to the cinema or just finished shopping and want to grab something quick to eat. It's not cheap but I used a MenuPages voucher which made it very good value!

I really like this place. The staff were helpful and friendly and although I wouldn't say the food is the best I've ever had it's still really tasty and enjoyable. I like the decor here too, really cosy and inviting. Plus they have the best banoffi pie!

Twice I have been to Cactus Jacks and twice I have left disappointed. Some might say I am a big lad, I personally would like to think I am retaining a bit of water, anyway I pretty much like all food and always find something good in a restaurant and would generally give a place two or three goes unless they have done something drastically wrong. I never really mind if the service is slow on a busy night or they give you the wrong order I can accept that things go wrong in any restaurant but when something goes wrong and the waiting staff look and act as if you have asked them to freeze hell when you ask them to rectify the situation, that gets on my wick… First time they forgot my food and then asked ‘well did I actually order’ Presumably because I was in a big group and she only had taken x amount of orders but when she showed me her order Doc there was my order forth down and I was the only one to order steak. Second time I had a chicken enchilada and it was burnt it didn’t bother me to much as I am one of those who like burnt toast. Always new it would come in handy sometime Cactus Jacks food is not great, the service is rubbish and is pricy for what you get. It is a shame as I have eaten in the one in Galway and it’s the total opposite, food is good, Staff are good and you feel that you have received value for money.

Our first visit to Cactus Jack's and I'm afraid we won't be going back. Things started badly before even getting to the restaurant as I tried to print off my voucher to get a free main course and the website wouldn't let me as it "didn't take bookings over the Christmas period". Decided to try it anyway. Got there early, about 4:30pm and ordered the Cactus Skins between us for starters and the Combo Fajitas to share for our mains. The Cactus Skins were nice and one order of them was plenty for the two of us. When the fajitas arrived we were initially impressed at the size of the portion but on closer inspection this was due to the mass of peppers and onions, the beef/chicken/king prawn was a little on the sparse side - especially as it was for two to share. The peppers and onions were nice but far too many of them in proportion to the lack of meat. The chicken and King Prawn were nice although not enough King Prawn and the chicken was in tiny little bits, not nice chunks. The beef was dreadful - we couldn't cut it let alone chew it and so it was all left on the side of a plate. We told the waitress that the beef was inedible, she apologised, said she would tell the kitchen, and that was the last we heard on the matter, and they still presented us with a bill for the full amount, so I'm afraid they forfeited their tip. The service was actually friendly, but they didn't bother offering any kind of recompense for the awful rubbery beef they served up, even after we pointed it out to them. We won't be going back.

A group of us went here on Saturday and had a really good time. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived at the booked time so we were sent across to a restaurant/bar for a drink. Apart from that, everything else was good. The service was good and the portions were generous. The food was the good, but it's hard to do mexican food badly! We had quite a few cocktails which were only ok, a little bit watery perhaps so next time I'll stick with the beer. I'll probably go back again.

Went here after a bit of late night shopping! It was packed so we were lucky enough to get a table. We ordered and we were waiting 45 mins before i called a waitress to see what the delay was. She said that there some breakdown in their system, yet people that came in after us were served before us! Food came out and I cant say anything bad about the food! Especially the cactus jackets!! We were given complimentary desserts for the delay and the girl that was in charge was very nice so made up for the big delay..will be returning!

I came here twice. The first time, there was a group of 8 of us. we got a table down stairs one of the round ones, the food and drink flowed and no one had any complaints. Same the second time, i met a friend after work and we were seated up stairs, the place is hugh, very busy again, and service was quick. This is a great place to go with a group or two. Its casual dining and comfortable but nice. lots of choice on the menu.

Went here for early meal one week night and it was good. Mexican food invariably tastes pretty similar but the portions were big, atmosphere welcoming and relaxed and the central location is great. Fairly pricey but is good value for what you get.

Dined here a while back with my boyfriend on a Sunday evening, was lovely and relaxed atmosphere. Food was very good, both of us left feeling very well-fed!! Only let-down was a slightly grumpy waitress! Would still recommend however!

Had an early dinner here before a movie in UCI. Went for the burgers which were really tasty. The nicest thing about this place is the casual friendly atmosphere, and the floor to ceiling windows which are great for a bit of people watching.

Ate here last thursday. Had not heard of it before, but it was a pleasant meal. We got the wrong starters but the staff changed it without any fuss. Was busy enough but not too cramped, although we were sitting at the table with another couple!! The portions sizes were very large...so go easy on the starters!!

I made a visit last Month with friends. I love the atmosphere here and service was excellent. However, I did feel that the food was mostly re heated and it is not the cheapest of restaurant so value for money was not the best!. I have had better experiences here, so I will go back.

The ingredients of all the dishes was very similar just served in a different way. However the staff were very helpful and it is a fun place for a meal.

Went here with my husband on wednesday and we were actually going to use our menupages voucher for a free main course here. I had not heard anything about the place and was pleasantly suprised. The atmosphere is very nice all natural wood tables and red shades and it was busy enough for a wednesday night. Its also good for people watching given its location. We had calamari to start between us and the were really good and really light batter, more like a seasoning, generous portion and a nice salsa - gone in seconds. Then I had the chicken fajitas which were really good and not covered in any sauces, just fried up with chicken, peppers, courgette and onion and served on hot plate with warm tortillas and nice guacamole, sour cream etc.Very tasty. My hubby had the big jack burger - which is huge, its 2 quarter pounders so hard to get your mouth around, but really tasty - they should probably offer a quarter pounder version as well - I would more likely go for that! Will definitely go back.

Went here for late lunch with a friend on Sunday. The place was empty, but the service was good. we ordered 2starters to share: the calamari and a ceasar salad. Both were very nice. Then we took the chicken fajitas for 2. They were nothing special. the flavour of the chicken was bland and the tortilla was quite tough. the restaurant was very cold and the smell of the kitchen was overwhelming at our table. Would not return for the fajitas, maybe for the goodlooking waiter and some more calamari :)

on a sunday evening it was nicely busy - good atmosphere but not too cramped. I have a feeling it may be a but tight on a busy night, lots of 2 person tables close together. We had fajitas to share - sizzling hot and tasty. Good prices and friendly service - they forgot my cheese but won't hold that too against them.

Went here on the fly with three others and we had a good meal. I was impressed with the food, but the service was a bit 'uninterested'. I'm not an expert on Mexican food, but this was delicious. Good people-watching opportunities out the window which looks out onto the 'Italian quarter'. Would definately go back.

Ok so it was a very busy evening when we were there but everything from the food to the service was just adequate. Although you think of mexican as casual food it wasn't that cheap and the table was dirty when we were seated and was cleaned around us. The food tasted bland to me and the chicken had that faintly boiled texture, presumably left sitting cooked for a while before reheating. The place was very noisy but I suppose as it was so busy that is hard to avoid. The lighting was a bit bright too, def not a cosy romantic meal kind of place. I wouldn't go back here.

I really like the decor of the restaurant. It is placed down a walkway so people are strolling by. Food was nice but chicken wings let them doen. I like them hot and spicy. they seemed a bit dry. I had steak for mains which was nice.

Spent 40 Minutes waiting to even have someone take our order for drinks even though there was only about 5 tables in the restaurant! The starter platter was lovely & the cocktails were great, but we asked for the steak medium rare and it came out way overdone!

Myself & my boyfriend visited Cactus Jacks last night for dinner. I was looking forward to trying it out as we both love Mexican food. It was so disappointing. The food, although it did what it said on the tin, was completely tasteless and slightly overpriced for what we got. I ordered some sides and they looked like they had been sitting out in the kitchen for at least two days. The food did not taste fresh. The atmosphere was not great, however it was a Monday evening so thats to be expected. The staff were friendly, but the food was a complete let down. Its a shame as I'm always on the lookout for a nice Mexican restaurant. Save your money and try somewhere else.

Went here on a Monday with some work people. It was quiet and the waitress gave us a lot of attention. Ordered the platter of starters between four-very nice, right amount of food. The mains were HUGE and tasty. Could only pick at a gorgeous choc cake. Great value for money, lovely place.

Dined here on Friday night with a couple of friends. Choose it as the reviews on Menupages were great. The food is very tasty, portions on the large side and wine very nice! Service is quite laid back and it is a little expensive but I would return as the food is delicious!

had a lovely meal here last night - glad i didnt order starters the main is massive! ordered chicken fajittas and my friend ordered the burger - was like a 1/2 pounder - huge! the fajittas were gorgeous and plently of flat bread (3) I ordered fries too and they were very nice. all in all a lovely meal - only reservation with the place is the price - fajittas are nearly 20 euro for one portion! so not a cheap restaurant as i thought. total came to 50 euro for 2 mains only and no drinks - bit pricey but would defo go back with a group for a night out!

We ate here last night for the 2nd time and I have to say that its one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin city. I cannot fault the food. Its always well presented and very tasty. We had the platter to start and I went for the Classic burger for the main. Delicious. Staff were very warm and friendly again. Very happy with the service. We will be back again no doubt!

Dined here for lunch and had a great meal for a reasonable price. The staff catered well to my food allergies, though only after pushing the issue. The restaurant has a nice feel and is well decorated, would like to try it for dinner one time.

I have eaten here twice and have had good experiences both times. The food is good - try the starter vegetarian Nachos - as is the value for money. The only downside was that the service was not great. I thought the wait staff had a tendancy to ignore you when trying to get their attention!

My boyfriend and I spent a lovely Sunday afternoon here, sitting outside and relishing a lovely bottle of red with our respective dinners! At first glance the menu didnt really appeal to me,as although I love a bit of mexican-style food, there didnt seem to be much in the way of seafood/vegetarian. A lot of it was beef and chicken. Oh, with the odd alternative to be lamb. The menu, as I found, is actually quite flexible - dishes marked with asterisks can be made veggie, and sometimes, they'll substitute meat for seafood. I went for the prawn fahitas, which were sizzling and delicious, the spice they used with the prawns was really tasty and the accompanying dips to put in the wraps were really good, too. I would've liked maybe even one or two more flour tortillas, although I wasnt left too short because the leftover spicy veggies on the sizzler plate were delicious to eat as they were! My boyfriends chicken was alright, I dont think he found it too inspiring but I think this was because his was rather plain and he wished he'd ordered something like fahitas instead. We had a delicious bottle of wine that I foolishly have forgoten the name of, but it had such a lovely warmth to it and a great smoky taste. To finish, My boyfriend had the banoffi, which was very nice, but I was a bit disappointed that the banana wasnt in a layer (oh ok, like in the traditional way!!-its my favourite dessert!). I had the lime and tequila cheesecake which was very good, and I liked the little shavings of rind decorating the top. I would definatly go back here on another nice sunny afternoon (please God!), because, for me, part of the appeal is the atmosphere around outside. Good service aswell. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

We got seated striaght away upstairs in the restaurant at a wonderful and very private table. The waiter was extremely attentive, and service was timed to perfection. We had the chicken strips and guacamole for starters, and both were delicious. The guacamole was perfectly spiced, my only critisism would be that is was served with far too many tortilla pieces for one person, but as a sharing starter would be great. For main we had a 12oz sirloin, and the Platillo Ceviche. The steak was great, and the fish was to die for! It was a combination of fishes that i had not seen before, but i certainly hope to see again! Very large tiger prawns in a tomato sauce, topped with a large piece of salmon. Topped with crispy calamari, and surrounded by shelled mussells topped with breadcrumbs, and with a delicios salad, this dish was very much enjoyed. I would certainly recommend this restaurant, even though the prices were a tad high.

food was acceptable, but service painfully slow. I ate here recently with my partner. I was seated on what can only be described as a couch, with a low hanging light to boot!! Waited over 15 mins for service, if you could even call it that. Food very sloppily presented also. din't think Il be returning here...

There was a group of 9 of us here for dinner on a Friday evening & we were all in agreement that this place was excellent! We all had starters that really could be served as a main course they were so big, the main courses were even bigger!! We all varied from Steak to enchilades/Fajitas & there were no complaints at all with any of the food besides the portions - they're huge. The bill came to under €450 for the 9 strters, mains, 2 bottles or wine & various amunts of beer & coffees. The atmosphere was great, the servers were polite, efficent & refilled drinks as were needed. we will definitely go back here!

Have eaten here a few times both for lunch and dinner and have never had any real complaints. Good value at lunchtime. I would definately recommend the Fish Cakes and the Empananadas to start. One drawback is the service can be slow and a times the restaurant a bit on the chilly side. Will definately go back!

We ate here last month after work. The food was delicious. We ordered the steak & chicken fajitas to share and had chicken wings and a salad to start. Went here Friday evening and got a table no problem. Food is nice but portions are way too big. We left lots of food behind which was a shame. Service was fine. Don't have any complaints. I enjoyed the food I had but. Probably a good place to go for a casual bite to eat if you are hungry. Would go back again.

Partner and I ate here late Saturday afternoon as walk in's had no trouble getting a table and thought atmosphere and decor good. Service was prompt and ordered just main courses. Partners medallions of beef cooked medium were perfect. My fish platter was ok - prawns left a litle to be desired, one or two were just mush a bit dodgy but the salmon, mussels and calamari were great. Service was without fault and pleasant. Would come again.

I heard great things about this place and had to try it! Location and interior very well maintained. Got a table for four no problem and were seated at window near the back. Waited over 10 minutes to give our order and had to wave to get attention. Staff in fairness very nice but service very slow and totally understaffed. Food was all very very good had enchiladas, fajitas and chicken. Portions very big too. We had to walk around to find waitress to get the bill. If this place had better service it would have been full but had loads of unhappy customers that day over service... Pity

One has to wonder at times if there will ever come a day when every time you go out for a meal you will get good service and good food. 2 of us ate here last Thursday. Service was dismal. You might as well be invisible to the clearly badly trained and totally disinterested staff. Drinks arrived late. A cocktail and a cranbery juice were the worst I have drank in years. And the food, grim. I had a beef concoction, can't remember what it was supposed to be, but pedigree chum came to mind. My friend had a prawn meal that was dire also. Only for their location, I guarantee this place would be empty. Never again

I've eaten here a few times on a Saturday afternoon and it's nice, not too expensive and the atmosphere has been good in there. But there are better Mexican places around town. The Cactus Jacks in Galway is much better and always busy, so the atmosphere is brilliant in there at the weekends.

We had dinner in Cactus Jacks yesterday, and I must say it was very good. Lovely setting, good service and lovely food. All 4 of us ordered something different: beef enchiladas were yum, and the beans and rice that came with them were very tasty. My boyfriend ordered prawn fajitas which I thought had too few prawns, but he insisted there was plenty. The chicken and chorizo dish seemed slightly small, but was fine for someone with a small appetite. The tacos were served in a surprisingly soft wrap, and not the hard tortilla like shell you'd expect. Nonetheless, we were all well fed and satisfied with our choices. It was nice to see that they welcome families with children (we were there from 5- 6.30 ish. Cactus Jacks is a place I would visit again.

Ate here on Fri night. Slight mix up with reservation, our names had been crossed off the list even though I had rang 2hrs prior to confirm, but they got us table no hassle. Food was great, service great, although would recommend they serve the summer crumble warm. Was freezing cold but asked waiter to heat it, definitely way better warm. Would return.

Had dinner with friends. Service was only ok, our waiter seemed a bit absent minded. Extra side order didnt arrive until the end of our main course - when this happens in restaurants do they really think you want it at that stage? No apology but at least it didnt appear on the bill. Nice cocktails. Wouldnt be too excited about going back again.

Visited this restaurant on the day of the Womens Mini Marathon with a few of our walkers. the food was lovely and we welcomed our drinks. however the service could be improved on. trying to get hold of someone to take more drink orders was impossible. however its cheap and cheerful and the food was good.

I booked Cactus Jacks after reading some of the great reviews on this page but how I was dissappointed! When I actually ring up and book a table I expect to get one where I actually have the ability to get up and go to the toilet without knocking someones dinner over.We were really squashed in beside the window beside the door. Not great first impressions. Then we had to sit there for 20 minutes before someone even came over to ask us if we'd like a drink.I probably should've ordered 3 or 4 because I didn't realise they wouldn't ask us again. The drinks took forever to come out, and the starters were about another 20 minutes behind them. Then the main course was actually only about 5mins later, not giving room for the starter to go down.My b/f ordered the steak medium which came out rare and still really bloody and I got the prawns which weren't that nice. The drinks were dry at this stage but every time we asked for a waiter we were told yes, we'll come to you now and no one ever did. Then when we asked for the bill, after deciding to go elsewhere for drinks because it wasnt worth the bother, the bill never arrived, so we had to ask 3 diff people. I definitely would not recommend this place on a friday evening and it appears it doesnt matter if you book or not, because those who walked in off the street without a booking got better service!!not a good place for a birthday dinner!

When with a party of 4 on Thursday night. You pay for what you get with Cactus Jacks. The fare was only fair with all four of us going for steak - probably should have been a bit more adventurous - its only Mexican after all. No side order of Veg accompanied our meals and for this designated driver there was no non-alcoholic beer available though the house wine was fine according to those who part took. Not fussed on the location as it seems very Spanish holiday spot without the sun, hussle & bussle, and atmosphere. I had better value for €180

Ok, I'm updating my review for this place. I went for lunch about a month ago and it was FLAWLESS, really fantastic food, service and atmosphere. As I was so impressed with the lunch, I decided to try it out for dinner, and took my parents there last week. I'm assuming Cactus Jacks have different providers or chefs for dinnertime. Our table wasn't ready when we arrived even though we booked a week in advance. Between starters, main courses, and desserts we ordered six meals between us and three of the meals we recieved were incorrect. My mum got the a vegetarian option of what she ordered, instead of the prawn version which she asked for. Both my parents recieved the wrong desserts. Now, the staff were very apologetic and corrected the meals very quickly, however it was disappointing to recieve three things we did not order. The food we ate was nice, but nowhere near as good as the delicious meals on the lunch menu. The veggie enchilada I had for lunch was ten times better and fresher than the veggie enchilada I had for dinner. Maybe this is just a coincedence, but I would be interested to know if there is a change of hands in Cactus Jacks between lunch and dinner. I was really looking forward to my meal as it was my mum's birthday and I had recieved some bad news that day and was really looking forward to the same lovely food I had for lunch but sadly this was not the case at all.

Great portions, nice food and a pleasant lunch that was value for money. Loved the lime & mint mocktail - nice and refreshing for the summer!

I really enjoyed the meal i got at this restaurant. The staff were great, and the food came out quickly. I got the Cactus Jackets (potato skins) as a starter (very filling - be warned!)They were lovely though. Its also a great place for cocktails.Highly recommended.

I went to this restaurant for dinner with my partner after have checking the recommendation from this site. We very much enjoyed our dinner especially the chicken wings as the starter. We had the sirloin steak as our main course. The steak was really soft and tender. The service is excellent. We definitely will be back again.

Tried this restaurant with a friend as I have walked past it on my way to work every day for months. I was pleasantly surprised. I had the Chimichanga which was delicious, filling without being too heavy and was very well presented. My friend opted for the enchilada and raved about it. The staff were very pleasant and attentive to our needs without being in your face. All in all it was a highly enjoyable visit and I'll be returning soon.

Myself and some friends came here for a meal last week, the food was very nice and the cocktails were also delicious(slightly over priced though ).The service was not the best, we were left waiting for our bill for nearly 20 minutes despite asking 2 staff members for the bill, but all in all a good spot for a nice Mexican.

I was here a couple of weeks ago and really liked it. I wouldn't be a huge fan of Mexican but really did enjoy my meal. Slightly spicy for me... but that is just me! :) The veggie enchilada was delicious and very filling. Their drinks were pretty good too! We all left happy and I will def go back.

Went here yesterday for dinner, when we arrived it was still quiet and we were seated and ordered a starter and main course each, the starters arrived quite quickly and we enjoyed (tortilla chips with guacamole and bbq wings), the main course was served immediately after it, which was a pity as the food was nice and a lot, but we couldn't finish half of it (fajitas pollo/carne). The price was ok, using the menupages voucher, the staff was also ok, but not very attentive and could look happier, maybe next time we try the meat.

I was here over the weeknd again and it's lovely. The food is so reasonably priced. We sat upstairs and had a lovely seat at the back of the stairs. No interruptions of people when they try to get by. I had the steak and a lovely starter of chicken and it was tasty. The wine was lovey Chilean and I would reccomend this to anyone who likes steak! I will definitely be here again!

My boyfriend brought me here as a surprise after a hard day at work and I thought the whole atmosphere, decor, staff and food were lovely. The starters were really tasty, especially the guacamole. We both had the steak, which wasn't perhaps as nice as some other places, but was still pretty good. All in all it was a lovely meal and I will be back.

We've been to Cactus Jacks a good few times and the food is always lovely... The last time was a Saturday night and it was quite busy... The starters were tasty but the Steak was not great. Having said that, the service was very good and the desserts were top notch! It's a great place for a nice bite in the city centre.

OK but nothing special We came on a quiet Tuesday night, we were the only people in the restaurant and we were asked did we have a reservation - And the waitress when we said no acted very snippily towards us. Food was ok - The burgers were good but the place had very little atmostphere. I won't be hurrying back

Went here Sat afternoon. Was quite busy. We Had chilli cheese nachos and potatoe skins to start. Nice but portions bigger in Tallaght. Had combi fajitas for main. Went nice but nothing to write home about. Food came out very quickly, which I don't think is good. Price was reasonable, but overall a pretty average meal.

Didn't seem as nice as the one in Tallaght. Portions were smaller. Started with the jackets which were disappointing compared to the last time I had them, not as crispy. Then had the fajitita's for two which were good. Plenty for the two of us. Not bad for a Saturday evening.

A group of us ate here last weekend. I wouldn't advise people to go here, but if you like the kind of short order food you get out of the American chain restaurants, then you would like this place. Nothing really offensive about the food, but when I go to a restaurant I like to get something that I couldnt get out of the freezer, or couldn't cook myself. And you won't find anything here that the chefs didn't construct from a picture on the kitchen wall.

Excellent spot for Mexican food in a city that doesn't have a great selection of Mexican places. Cactus Jacks also does burgers and other types of food but I opted for the chilli cheese nachos followed by fajitas and wasn't disappointed! The service was so efficient with our group of 20 people and the food was great!

Was here on Saturday. Loved the atmosphere and staff is very professional but food was a great disappointment. The nachos and fajitas we ordered weren't tasty or spicy at all: if I go to a restaurant that serves mexican food, I want my food to be spicy and extra-tasty! Overall, not particularly impressed.

Went to Cactus Jacks on Friday evening with a group from work. It was most enjoyable. The food was excellent, we all had starters and main courses (too full for desserts) as well as a selection of coctails and beer. The staff were very friendly and allowed us to swop our desserts, as we ordered from a set menu, for a round of beer. Good atmosphere in the resturaunt.

Went to this Middle Abbey St restaurant last Thursday after work. Got in before the early bird menu finished. They had an offer of free dessert or bottle of Corona beer. We opted for the choc fudge cake. It was great. Overall I found this place to be very inviting, friendly and good value for money in the heart of town.

Not as good as Galway. The Cactus Jacks on Middle Abbey street is missing something. The staff are rushed and made some minor blunders (No tabletop wine cooler). The food was average. I had a steak and it was a little overdone. Apart from that the decor and atmosphere were top notch. Food was average but the setting made up for this.

Ate here with my boyfriend on Friday night, i had been ranting about it having been to Cactus Jacks in Tallaght & overall I was disappointed with our meal in this venue. Portion sizes and presentation were smaller & less appetizing, service was good however & we had a pleasant time there!

OMG I'm still in shock at this place. My boyfriend and I went here for a romantic Vday dinner, we had the table from 7 to 9. On arrival we were notified that it was a set menu, bit disappointed with this as we were not made aware on booking the table. Needless to say the set menu was well put together. Our order was taken, and our starters arrived within a few mins, on approaching the table the manager did not know what the starters were so had to return to the kitchen, I was given the wrong starter to which the manager still could not tell me what was in front of me, on returning from the kitchen once again it was realised it was the wrong one! Come on, a manager who doesn't know his own menu! we were rushed, and finished the full set menu by 7:50, my steak (medium) was so tough I had serious problems cutting it with a steak knife, no word of a lie my boyfriend had literally put the last bite in his mouth and the waiter had the plate swooped away. We ordered 2 desserts only got 1, I was given a soup spoon to eat my dessert, Tea and coffee came with set menu, we were never offered or approched for any. So disappointing, restaurant was half full downstairs, staff didn't look under pressure. Management would want to pull their socks up! My advice avoid if you can.

Popped in without a reservation on the off chance on a Saturday night. Table we were given had to be back by a certain time, but had plenty of time as our order arrived quickly. Yummy and very filling main courses, so unfortunatley no room for the dessert I'd been eying up! Service was fine, and staff were friendly enough.

Very good menu, excellent selection. Service was slow at times but didn't bother us much, probably not the best place if you're in a hurry. Generous portions with great taste, loads of prawns in the fajita which can be surprising. Will return.

While the food here was delicious it was majorly let down by the atmosphere and extremely slow service! Also the food was priced quite high. I would go back here again because the food was yum but I would be more prepared to wait

This place has a very good selection of authentic Mexican food. The biggest fault of this place is that the service is slow especially at busy times and perhaps they should consider hiring more staff.

5 of us had a birthday dinner here on a busy Friday night and really enjoyed ourselves. We were very late for our booking but the staff were extremely nice and showed us right to our table. They kept us well-watered and were attentive but not intrusive. The menu is extensive, but thankfully not expensive - it was nice to be able to have a nice meal on a student budget. We skipped starters, and ordered the grilled salmon, vegetable basket, vegetarian fajitas and half duck. We cleared our plates quickly and treated ourselves to brownies, fruit salad and cheesecake for dessert - delicious. The staff were really so pleasant and accommodating, even putting a candle on the birthday boy's dessert and singing for him. The decor and atmosphere were surprisingly tasteful and comfortable, and we just had an all-round good time. We'll be back.

I ate lunch here recently, and it wasn't exactly great. The waiters took ages with everything (we were sitting for over 10 minutes AFTER picking what we wanted from the menu before they took our order) and the food wasn't exactly amazing either. The table beside us were having issues with the service too, like not getting drinks they ordered. Maybe it was just a bad day!

Cactus Jacks - it comes with awards and the like, so definitely worth a look. This was my first visit. I like the decor - contemporary and inviting, and with a seat on the upstairs balcony it still felt like there was plenty of breathing space rather than being jammed in. The garlic bread was the best I'd ever had with a great little salad to go with it. I followed this with a burger which was good, but a little dry - both the meat and the bap on which it was served. Still a good burger, but I've had better. Love the tables.

From a person that likes to eat a lot but doesn't go out for dinner much, this place is great. Food is lovely, staff are very friendly and the table space is good. I remember going to another one of these in Galway and it was just as good, maybe even better. Overall great place and I highly recommend it

This place is grand if you want something handy. I've been a few times and if you have a hungry boyfriend who doesn't like going to restaurants with small-med portions stop off here! Also it's a good spot for large groups The burgers were tasty but the fries were way over cooked. The staff were friendly though.

Bit of a surprise this place - have walked by it so many times, but never before ventured inside. I always thought it looked very cold and unwelcoming from the outside, but it is actually a very cosy place inside, and quite relaxing. The staff were very friendly, and the food was very filling. I only had something from the lunch menu, so cannot comment on the full menu. I didn't have one myself, but the cocktails did look good!

I have visited the place many times. First time was out of curiosity after they received a terrible review from Metro. I went to check it out "sure it can't be that bad". Well it wasn't and I have returned since. It's no nonsense, does exactly what it says on the tin. Strangely the Mexican food there is the biggest let down and the most success I have had is with their salmon. A solid Saturday lunch choice type of restaurant.

Have eaten in Cactus Jacks in Tallaght before & really liked it, however we stopped by this one over christmas & the service was terrible dispite it being half empty, we had to ask twice for our drinks & then my boyfriends food was wrong, he ordered a chicken BBQ burger & got beef & when he said he ordered chicken the waiter said 'yeh well the beef is just as good'! Also a lot of the salad was brown so we left most of it. The chicken wings we had as a starter to share were to die for though!

After driving around town looking for somewhere nice to eat, we decided Cactus Jacks would be a nice change. Received a very warm welcome at the door and was quickly brought to our table. We ordered garlic bread and nachos for starters. Very tasty. Our main course was Tatados con pollo and a burrito. Wouldn't advise anyone to order either of these dishes. The tatados con pollo had one breast of chicken which was small enough to pass as a budgie filet. The burrito was extremely big but lacked on presentation and taste was very average. Wine was top!! Staff were reasonable, wouldn't visit again soon

Love this restaurant....very reasonable prices and HUGE portions so I would recommend sharing starters and a dessert (if you can fit any more in!!) The vegetarian nachos are my fave, really yummy!! Staff very helpful and friendly and the cocktails are gorgeous. Also like that they bring a jug of water to the table without you having to ask! Will definitely be back...soon!

Ate here not too long ago with the girls. Food was ok, I had a quesadilla which was loaded with refried beans (which I hate) but we had filled up on cocktails at that stage so it didn't matter. Staff were lovely & bill surprisingly small considering we each had 3 cocktails & a bottle of wine between us

Myself and my boyfriend came across this place last night by chance. Nice atmosphere and the service was excellent. Staff were very attentive but not in your face. We had literally only sat in our seats when water was delivered to our table & was never let run out throughout the whole meal. We ordered nachos to start which were very tasty. I had chicken enchilada for main - very big portion which I didn't manage to finish but was delicious. He had Chilli Cheese Burger which was fab. Would recommend it but would recommend sitting upstairs rather than downstairs.

Went here a couple of weeks ago. A big group of us had the fillet steak. It was amazing. I would definitely recommend it! Wasn't as nice when I returned for lunch but I would go again just for the steak!!

Cactus Jacks - this place was a real let down - not worth a visit in my opinion. The food was bland and over priced. I had better Mexican in fast food in the USA!!! The waiters seemed to be bored to be working - they never asked if everything was alright when they served the food. There would be a better atmosphere on the moon than in this place. Will not be back for seconds!!!

I went here with 2 friends on friday evening and would definitely go back. I thought there was a really nice atmosphere, the food was so tasty and the service was good. It was a little bit more expensive than I had expected but it was worth every penny

I went there on Sunday evening for dinner with my boyfriend. I found that the place totally lacked atmosphere. The food was lovely and I cannot fault that at all, neither my dishes nor my boyfriends. We were waiting about 10 - 15 mins to have our starters cleared. The service was quite slow but I did expect it because I has read the reviews on this website. It is excellent value for money as well. The only thing to complain about is, there is no atmosphere. I could barely hear the music and the service was quite poor. Unsure whether I would go back !

I ate here recently with my boyfriend and was really disappointed. We both had burgers, which took nearly half an hour to arrive and were luke warm. The portion of chips that were on the side were tiny and soggy. When we asked for vinegar or ketchup they had none. The restaurant was fairly empty but no one came over to see if we were ok for drinks-we had to go looking for staff. We didnt even bother staying for dessert. I wouldnt recommend this place at all. There are much better tex mex restaurants with cheaper prices and better atmosphere around the city.

Was here for a dinner on Sunday and found the place pleasant, clean and very modern. Service was fast and didn't charge us extra when we got prawns in our fajitas. About those fajitas, anyone who has ever been to Mexico or the US even knows that Ireland is a long long way from "Mexican food". I can't understand why it is so hard to copy. Sour cream was not sour cream, very little spices on the fajita mix, was not served with rice and beans as proper fajitas would. Oh yeah, do not buy the buffalo wings. Lacking flavour and chicken, very uninspiring. Guacamole was imitation mix and nowhere near real. 2 star food, 3 star setting

Was here for lunch on a Saturday. Service was really good (although at one stage we were the only customers in the entire restaurant!). Food was delicious, however the lunch menu in the Tallaght branch has a wider (and in my opinion better) variety of options on the menu. Chicken burger with BBQ sauce was yummy though.

We went for a meal here last Saturday night it was a pleasant place with a nice atmosphere. Our waiter on the whole was attentive and helpful. The food was only ok - I had the calamari and they were not very good, someone else had the wings and were happy with them. For the main 3 of us had either steak or medallions of beef and again these were only ok - my steak although tasty was not very hot. The fajitas were ok. So overall we had a good night but would not go back to this restaurant.

Went here last night for a bite before the cinema. Was absolutely gorgeous! I had the garlic bread for starters and Pollo con Ajo for mains. The chicken was divine - fresh slices of chicken in a garlic and basil pesto sauce with baby potatoes, cherry tomatoes and the nicest green beans I have ever had! They had been char-grilled or something, but I couldn't get enough of them! My boyfriend had the chicken tenders to start which were hot and fresh, and the fillet steak medallions for mains. The steak came with sauce, tons of onions and mushrooms and the nicest chips I've had in a while! Our waiter was a gem. He was super attentive, but not instrusive, and knew exactly when to approach the table. Great value, and I can't wait to return!!

Not good enough. I had dinner here with my girlfriend and the food was quite poor. We had veggie nachos to start and enchiladas for the main. The nachos arrived within about 3 minutes of being ordered (never a good sign) and were lacking in salsa. The enchilada fillings were greasy, the tortillas tough and they were topped with what looked like passata and a cheese single. No salsa, no guacamole and no sour cream. When we asked for the accompaniments, we got what was basically a chopped tomato rather than salsa, crème fraiche rather than sour cream and some sort of green paste (that looked like it came from a jar), rather than guacamole. At €17 per main, you expect a lot more than this. Steer clear of this place.

I went here with a friend the other night for a bite to eat after work. we were seated straight away by a friendly Irish guy but we waited a good ten minutes or more to be served. The waitress who served us was a bit dour and didnt look like she enjoyed being there one bit. We shared wings and nachos. The nachos were tasty but the wings were average. I had a beef empenada and my friend had a chicken enchilada. They were both tasty enough but also very stolid and heavy. Also my empenada was quite greasy. Overall I wouldnt really recommend cactus Jacks as its not cheap and its very average. Our male waiter was great but otherwise the service was pretty abbysmal. Not recommended.

I have been here a couple of times. I like Mexican food and this place does it reasonably well. I normally have the nachos as a starter - it's big enough for two - and the chilli as a mains. The food is middle of the road but the portions are a decent size. It's a great place to go to if you are looking for a bite after work or on the way to the cinema up the road. The one thing that could be improved is the service which can be erratic at best. The staff are friendly but you can end up waiting for fifteen minutes to order. This is not great when you are in a hurry. Overall I would say this place is worth trying but don't be in a hurry.

Have to say I love these guys Spiced Calamari and BBQ Buffalo wings that I'm always tempted to have them as the main course. Friendly staff, quick service and tasty food.Recommend.Make sure you're hungry though as you'll definitely be stuffed when you leave. Great to go to before the cinema as I've never been kept waiting

i really enjoyed a night in Cactus Jacks lately with my 2 friends. We sat upstairs & i thought the wooden seats & tables were quite funky. Along with the matching wooden menus. Our 2 servers for the night could not do enought to help us. Food is all Mexican themed & i enjoyed the Prawn Fajitias. All 3 of us were stuffed after the huge portions. Friendly staff, tasty food, a cheap night out, will return to Cactus Jacks.

We have eaten in here on a few occasions. The food is lovely and the atmosphere is good. The service was slow on one occasion, once the waiter forgot to bring us our drinks but on all other occasions, it was fine. Like most places, service can be a bit slow when they are busy.

Was here a few months ago and while the restaurant is very funky looking, its also on the small side. The food is nice but nothing special which can also be said for the service. The cocktails are also a bit bland and not at all worth the money. Wouldn't return in a hurry.

I had my first and last experience at this restaurant about a month ago. I ordered a non-alcoholic mojito-esque mocktail which was 80% ice and cost about €5! I chose fajitas for my main, which came without the blue cheese described on the menu. There was 5 in my group - the other 4 had finished their main courses while I was still eating mine, but the waiter removed their plates while I was still chewing my food - rushing and embarassing me hugely. The management really need to train their staff properly. Needless to say we didn't leave a tip; the service didn't even reach perfunctory standards, it was downright rude.

Food was fine and the location is good. It's a nice cultural area. No marks for service as when I disputed the automatic service charge because we didn't have the specified number of people, I got an earful. So I commented that I hadn't actually gotten the correct order and we had asked for a jug of water 3 times and given up. The girl said I was lying. We won't be back.

A nice place but a poor location. There is not much going for it, but once inside, the decor is very intimate, with candle lighting and wooden tables. The interior is fairly small, and the place generally isn't chaotic. In short, one can enjoy a decent meal here. The food is quite good. Pricewise it is ok, but can be a bit on the high side. The service is good, but unremarkable. Overall, nice but not somewhere you would eat out every weekend

I live in California and frequent some of the most authentic Mexican restaurants in the country. I was the only lunch diner on a Sunday. Atmosphere here is outstanding...very modern decor but surely romantic with real wood tables and candlelight. Service here during lunch was sleepy-eyed...kind, but too apathetic. Ordered chicken fajitas. Food presentation was excellent. Peppers and onions were undercooked (too crispy) and the sugars hadn't been permitted to caramelize in the skillet. Sour cream and salsa would have been a welcome addition. As a whole the fajitas were above average, but lacked zip. Shame on this restaurant for not serving complimentary chips and housemade salsa.

I've eaten here a couple of times and have enjoyed the food immensely and it's good value too. The last time I was in, two of us shared the Fajitas for Two dish and there was plenty to share! (Just enough room left to eat Banoffi pie - which is only gorgeous!!) I'd definitely recommend it.

Great little place for lunch/dinner. Food is good quality and the portion sizes are fairly large. The layout of the place means it's great to people watch as well (if you're beside a window). Staff are reasonably good too.

Went here for my best friends birthday a couple of weeks ago. I really liked the atmosphere & feel of the place as you get there. I got the chicken dippers for starter, which were a bit over done & therefore dry but everyone else’s were perfect so I think I just got a dud. There were 15 of us & everyone really enjoyed the main courses & the deserts were fab. Will defo go back.

Very poor service in this restaurant. Slow at coming to take orders and don't always get it right either. Food was nothing special at all. Bland and boring for Mexican food! However there was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant and a good selection of wines. Too expensive for what it is. The restaurant decor and atmosphere does not reflect the type of food being served. I expected a lot more from this place.

I was there with a mate one Friday afternoon around 4pm. We were the only 2 in the restaurant. I had to get up to find someone to take our order; he took the order without writing it down. My starter turned up, but my mates didn't. The starter was bland, it was meant to be chilli, but there was no bite to it at all. The mains were again bland and I had ordered a beef burrito and had received a chicken burrito, half full. Not a good experience - is there a decent Mexican in town?

14 of us went here for a meal last weekend and it was terrible. An experience I will not be repeating. Service was terrible. Two people never got their starters. Food was very plain. (Mince and a tomato sauce). It was a Saturday night and full of drunken hen party's so that didn’t help either. Needless to say I wont be going back here.

The food here is delicious, no doubt about it. But when you are looking for a table for two, its ridiculously cramped. The tables are so close together you feel like it’s a foursome with you and the next table. Probably better to visit in larger groups.

Decided to cash in my menu points here two weeks ago. Went with the hubbie and kids. OK the kid’s menu is ridiculous it was basically a wrap with a sliver of tomato sauce and cheese and they charged 7.95 for it! All kids menus should include a drink and a scoop of ice cream, its short sighted of restaurateurs not to realise this. Myself and my husband ordered one veggie fajita and one veggie enchilada. We always order two different dishes and then share. The veggie enchilada was delicious, the fajitas on the other hand were so boring and unimaginative, down came a hot plate of peppers and onions, no sign of cashew nuts or green beans, sweetcorn etc. and dare I suggest a few quorn pieces. The service was very slow. I think we complicated their lives by giving it two vouchers; this is not against the rules is it? Anyway, we asked for the bill on a number of occasions and when we finally got it, we ended up paying at the till as nobody seemed bothered to come back for the money. I do feel Mexican restaurants in Ireland are generally overpriced and stodgy, and this fulfilled the stereotype. Its is a lovely setting just past my beloved Italian Quarter and the restaurant is bright and inviting. A little bit of imagination is in order and stop serving up fast food type dishes for 15 euro a pop.

This is my second time here and wont be the last. There were 4 of us for dinner on sat night and nobody had any complaints about the food or service which were both excellent. The waiter that served us could not have done more for us, if i had one gripe it would be that I had chicken enchiladas and there was very little chicken in it in fact I'd say there were about 5 or 6 small bits rest was all veg, not enough to put us off though, well done to all it cactus jacks your doing a great job, brilliant food, staff, prices and atmosphere.

Have been here several times with different company each time. All enjoyed it. Its location is very handy, it's fine for a casual meal or if you want to meet for a drink and a snack. Service was very good and portions and quality of food was also just right. No complaints would go back again.

I went to Cactus Jacks for my friends birthday there was about 20 of us and were put on a long table. When I was told it would be Mexican I wasn't sure if I would like it as I just thought Nacho's etc etc. We had a set menu which had really good selection; my mouth watered looking at what we had to choose from. I chose the Calamari which was perfectly cooked. Then I chose the Salmon steak which came with separate veg of your choice. I was pleasantly surprised at the restaurant and would definitely go back.

I went to Cactus Jacks last night with my boyfriend. He had the Platillo Ceviche - a mixed seafood platter which looked and tasted quite nice. I had a Chicken Enchilada, which was average to say the least. I left the restaurant feeling that I had not really enjoyed my meal at all. The staff were lovely and attentive. If I was to return to Cactus Jacks I would only order the Platillo Ceviche.

This place is great, the food was mouth watering, and sauces where HOT! The one thing I did not like was the tables. They resemble the bark of a tree and the one I was at had a hole in the design, but it was deep and I think there was a pepper in the hole from a previous customer. It was a deep hole that would catch any crumbs or bits of food, and it was not very nice. But I covered it up and continued on enjoy the night. Defo going back soon!

I was not very impressed with this eatery. We were a small group of 5 or 6 and all fans of Mexican food. All the standard dishes are there on the menu, they look good on the plate but the tastes weren’t there unfortunately. Everything was quite bland, except the margaritas. It's a pity as it was a cool and funky place. The service was adequate without breaking any records.

Was here a while ago with my boyfriend. The place looked nice and our waitress came over and was very good at selling i.e. she totally recommended the margarita’s while we waiting for our starters and of course we had some and had another two after that! Food was reasonable but no wow factor. All in all we had a good night but again, I think that was because of the 2 margaritas before din dins! Scale of 1 to 10 I'd give it a middling 5.

I was there last night with a couple of friends, we ordered starters and mains but then realised we should have just ordered 2 starters. The servings are massive. I had the cactus jackets to start, which were lovely. Also the citrus and mint crush cocktail is very tasty.

Have been here a couple of times and always found the food on the expensive side for what was on offer, last night didn't change my mind. I had the chicken/beef combo fajita, which, while tasty, was nothing special. My friend ordered a seafood dish, which was beautifully presented, but fell down in substance; with overcooked crab claws and a questionable sauce two such failings. However, the evening was primarily soured by the dessert we ordered to share - meringue nest with hazelnuts, fresh fruit and cream. What appeared was a ting shop bought meringue nest, some diced apple and a tiny amount of kiwi, the hazelnuts were so small they could barely be tasted. At 7 euro it was laughable.

Went here the weekend before Valentines Day. Place was jammers as you can expect. Service was too fast.... staff didn’t give you much time in-between courses. It was all rush rush rush. Food was nice however wasn’t impressed that they didn’t do normal chips...only did wedges that they called chips. Overall was ok. Wouldn’t go back again though.

I went here on Monday night as I had read about it on this site and thought it sounded nice. I thought it was a nice place staff were very friendly but I think I ordered the same as somebody on this page it was like a bowl made out of hard tortilla with loads of lettuce and chicken on top wasn’t very good at all I think I just went for the wrong thing really my boyfriend had the burger with pepper and brandy sauce which he said was ok. Have to say though the dessert was amazing we had the brownie with mint ice cream and nuts yummy.

I ate here last nite with some friends, the food was great top quality, the wine was lovely and the desserts were just perfect too, but the service was appalling, we had to ask for our table to be cleared and for the dessert menu, I guess its just very busy and they could do with more staff, also some extras we ordered arrived way too late for our liking, the food is good but the service would put me off dining here again.

Came here with a few relations because of an overwhelming recommendation from a friend at work. However, the service was really standoffish and really hard to get anyone's attention on the upstairs level. Starters were small, and were still hungry after the mains, which you don't expect when you go out for Mexican. Plus very annoying that sour cream, guacamole and jalapenos were all extra charges, each. Very stingy. Won’t go back.

This is more of a cafe quality and atmosphere than of a restaurant. We had fajitas and a burger and the quality wasn't great, only ok. The restaurant is huge and in a convenient location to the city centre but with so much other choice around I wouldn't recommend it.

We dropped in for a quick bite to eat early in the evening. Looking around the portions seemed to be fairly big so I opted for a starter, which was quite tiny and disappointing. However the main courses were delicious and reasonably priced. I thought the service was pretty slow and staff seemed disinterested. Having said that I would go back again.

Great starter but main course was pretty bland. Service was prompt. Prices not expensive. Upstairs looks like a better option than downstairs if you have the choice.

We went to this restaurant in a group of about 10 people. The atmosphere was excellent, staff were very attentive. The food was prompt and although a couple of the dishes did have a deep fried look to them, food was very tasty and well worth the money. Went back as a couple then shortly after around lunchtime and again staff were very friendly and helpful. Food again was very tasty. A great place for a party or a tasty and not too expensive night out. Recommended.

The food was lovely and great value for money but it wasn't as spicy as you'd expect for a Mexican. I had chicken enchiladas so maybe other dishes would be spicier but it was lovely.

Went to Cactus Jacks a few weeks ago on a girls night out and wasn't overly impressed. The atmosphere was nice but the service was awful. Our waitress made no effort to be friendly in anyway and tended to forget about us during the meal. The food was relatively good and reasonable priced but I don't think I'll be in any hurry back there.

Went here a few weeks ago, wasn’t sure what to make at first as it was so quiet, however, the food we had (fajitas for two) was very very tasty and the variety on the menu was good. The staff on the other hand kept disappearing on us so took awhile to get our cheque. I would recommend it for a quick bite to eat for anyone who likes Mexican style food and I found most of the prices reasonable.

I wouldn’t go back to Cactus Jack's. My main course was very bad and I made a complaint when our waitress asked how the meal was. While she was very polite and offered to get me a replacement, the manager approached us after the waitress had passed on our comments and he was very defensive. His response actually culminated with 'Well we've never had any complaints before'! Apart from poor customer service (!), the atmosphere is nice but the food isn't authentic Mexican/Tex-Mex. Wouldn’t recommend it.

We went here for our Christmas outing with a large group of friends and the food was only so so, the service was dreadful (there was only one waitress for the whole top level) and the beer was warm. Out of the 15 of us none would ever go back.

I went to Cactus Jacks with my boyfriend a few months ago and it was a mixed experience! We got fab cocktails and the food was gorgeous - when we finally got it! We waited 50 mins after they took our starters away for our main courses. People who had ordered after we had our starter were finishing their mains as we got ours! The staff ignored us and left us with empty plates and glasses for the hour time and no apology after! We didn't bother complain as they didn't seem to care anyway! It's such a pity as the food is so good and everyone else in the restaurant seemed to get looked after well! We both hope it was just that we were in a "blindspot"!! I'm giving it another chance with a group of friends soon so I hope it's better!

Myself and a friend dinned @ Cactus Jack's on Monday night as birthday treat!!!!! Well never again, I my friend’s food was reheated and mine was simply a bag of lettuce emptied into to bowl with tasteless chicken thrown on top of it. I was still chewing when the waitress took my plate away. Over all not an experience I would wish to repeat.

This place is perfect if you are shopping in the Henry St / Jervis St area and need a pit stop. They have a good value lunch menu and lovely big jugs of cocktails. I have eaten there a few times and never had any trouble getting a table, not very fancy but a nice lively atmosphere and good inexpensive food.

Went for a Friday night meal, was very nice. Starters were lovely and main meal, fajitas for two was really delicious. Drinks and desert to top it all off. Food was good value for money and really tasty. Only downfalls was having to give up our table by a certain time. But other than that would definitely return!

Chocolate in Chili? I kid you not. Had a great lunch there recently - a tad overpriced but quality of food and service were great. I don't think all Tex Mex has to be exactly authentic - Cactus Jack's is (as the playful name suggests) a fun dining option, with exciting use of ingredients. I will return and I'll be bringing a posse.

Went here with a few friends recently and was really pleasantly surprised! Couldn't find fault with anything. Staff were very attentive and very competent - helpful with the menu, prompt, and served water to the table without us having to ask, which is worth extra brownie points in my book! Food was delicious, and the menu had a great range of dishes. Huge portions too, and doesn't break the bank. Best of all, we weren't rushed out at the end, even though the restaurant was packed! I'd definitely recommend this place.

The food was great but the portions are BIG! Service was professional. Seems more an appropriate place for a group meal - not so intimate for couples. Booking seems essential - when I tried to get a table on a previous occasion with no booking, the waiter at the front desk literally laughed at me. Staff could be a little bit friendlier.......but otherwise I would recommend!

Have eaten here a few times now, is a safe bet for lunch. I've always liked the food I've gotten here. The service can be a little bit slow sometimes but it's not too bad. Overall my friends and I all really like this restaurant. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere too.

It’s funny because I always go to Mexican restaurants and think, this time might be better...and instead is always disappointing! We tried Cactus Jack because my boyfriend loves tex-mex food but I have to say...for me is always disappointing. This place has a nice atmosphere, wine is ok, service is quick, but the food is just average, it’s like a concoction pretending to give you a mex feel. PLEASE do get real recipes, get a chef that KNOWS about Mexican food, proves us wrong! Cook the real thing we need a real tex mex in town!***

I grew up in Texas and this place is not Tex-Mex, not Mexican, and not edible. I ordered chimichangas which are supposed to have shredded beef in them but instead got a mishmash of goo with large chunks of stew-quality beef to chew on. Wine was standard pub-plonk but for an extra euro a glass. I recommend the Italian places along the walkway instead; much much better deal.

This a little gem in the heart of the city. The food is simple and gorgeous and very reasonable. The portions are generous and it has a really relaxed atmosphere. It is the kind of place to impress somebody without breaking the bank. The medallions of steak were the best I ever had anywhere. The goujons are also gorgeous. I am a picky and plain eater and my partner is not and we both loved this place. Can't go wrong.
