i had been in this restaurant once before and my experience was very pleasant on the first occasion. Sadly, the same can not be said of my return visit. My family and I queued for about 20 mins to get a table and when we were seated . we had to queue again for food about another 10-15 mins. Some of the choices were gone and the fried rice dish was empty. The food that we had was quite tasty but not enough variety. They seemed to be very disorganised. I wouldnt be rushing back here.

This place epitomises quantity over quality. Dined here on a restaurant voucher and I would loath to have paid full price for it. The voucher was for starter main and dessert. We both helped ourselves to the frozen deep fried onion rings, samosas and spring rolls. When we returned for mains I found there was no vegetarian option, I asked the girl and she informed me she would check. In the mean time I had some fried rice. The girl returned and said I could have the vegetarian spring rolls or samosas.......I pointed out that I would like a main course in sauce as every single dish had chicken or prawns in it. In fairness she saw that the chef made me a vegetarian sweet and sour (no option was given). The rice was never refilled so I ate my sweet and sour like a soup which was fine but nothing to write home about. In the end I was glad to hand over a voucher rather than hard cash for what we recieved in this canteen style establishment.

Dined here recently for the second time. The place itself is spotless and the staff are very polite while the only issue I encountered was the replacement of cutlery. There is a good selection of food and the menu does vary, the food is off a very good quality for a buffet. What is also very appealing is the price of drink. All bar 1 of the wines is priced under E20, a bottle of beer is E4 or less and a bottle of coke is E2.20 for a 500ml bottle as opposed to E2.60 in most place for a 200ml shot of coke!!! Very good value, well done Abacus keep up the good work!

I went to Abacus on thursday evening last with 3 friends. We met after work at 5.30pm. We were the first in the restaurant, so we were the first to sample the food, which was delicious. Great variety, lots of it, really tasty. I would recommend this place to eat. Just one thing i would say, is to go early like we did because as it got later, a queue developed and people for waiting quite a while to get their food. But that is no fault of the restaurant, it was very polular, and nearly all seats were occupied throughou the 2 and a half hrs that we were there. Desserts were yummy too. Have a go you wont be dissappointed.

8 here... not happy! First impressions were good the restaurant was half full and people seemed to be enjoying themselves. I was seated fast and proceeded straight to the food, it was mostly gone!!! I scavenged through what was left of the remains desperately seeking protein and finding none!!! I picked away at my meal waiting for them to replenish the missing food, I was left waiting and waiting, eventually my hunger was gone and so to was I. 8 to say it but I wasn't pleased.

Went to Abacus tonight, once again availing of a voucher deal. Not knowing what to expect as it was our first all you can eat buffet. Our first impressions were good, the layout is comfortable and clean, we were seated straight away by a friendly member of staff. Heading straight to the food we discovered that little remained, it was only 8.30 and there was no reason not to be fully stocked. We filled our plates with the choices available and what we ate was tasty. We waited 20 Min's before any additional food was brought out by which stage we had lost our appetite. We tried the limited selection of desserts and again were pleasantly surprised. Maybe we timed our visit badly we will reserve judgement as a second chance is deserved. However it would have to be better than this visit for us to give it the thumbs up.

Very empty restaurant the night I was here. Food seemed to have been sitting in the trays for quite a while, but was still tasty. Would think it is too expensive at 12.90 per person, but did enjoy what I ate. Friendly staff

Went with my husband and 3.5 yr old son. It was late when we arrived. They did not have that much left in buffet so gave us discount. My husband asked the waiter for some fresh calamari and prawns and he kindly got them for us. Food is very fresh not like the usually buffet standards. Would highly recommend. Would be excellent for group night out.

was here last thursday for launch of their new menu i think it was - it was buffet style. it was actually my first time eating chinese food (shocking i know!) and i was most surprised that i did rather like it - i'm not familiar with chinese food at all so i couldn;t go into specifics but part of it was crispy chicken, spring rolls and sweet and sour - all yum! because of the night that was in it we never actually sat down in the restaurant but it looked really nice from what i saw. think i'm now a new convert to chinese food!

I went there at one Sunday alone. The food was good, really Chinese food. I like to taste all kinds of cuisines. But mostly I chose Chinese restaurant because I prefer spicy food. The service there is wonderful and made me feel good and thought it was worth to be here. I will come back in the future.

came here for a bday. Was packed as the restaurant is in a hotel and the six nations was on. Service was slow but the lad quite friendly. Food was alrite had salt and pepper augergine, was lots of it and very tasty, chili arlic prawns for main was very greazy...same with the duck, and chicken didnt go for dessert as it had taken way to long, no extras for the bday person , bit dissapointing but maybe it was just due to the buiseness of the rugby being on

Went for the early bird here last night; there was 9 of us and we were seated at a lovely round table that suited perfectly! The early bird is great value at €21.95 for 2 courses and the food is absolutely delicious. I had the crispy spring rolls which were lovely and the shredded chicken looked good too. For mains I ordered the Sizzling Beef Fillet - served still sizzling in a wooden dish, it was quite a spectacle. The black pepper sauce was amazing - highly recommend this dish for anyone eating here! Although I was the only one to clear my plate, it wasn't for a lack of trying on my friends parts! The portions are a decent size; helped to soak up all the wine. The staff are friendly and efficient, very attentive. Perfect spot for an intimate dinner with your other half or for a catch up with a group of friends. Looking forward to eating there again!

I enjoyed every single thing about this restaurant,as it was an anniversary dinner was looking for something special. The service was excellent a lovely calm atmosphere and the music in the back ground set the mood. Obviously the hi-light of the night was the food. Spring Rolls and shredded smoked chicken. Main course - Aromatic duck and Crispy Shredded Beef. All extremely fresh and tasty and we presented. Came to just over 100 euro which included bottle of sparkling wine and several beers. Highly recommended to anyone thinking of giving it a try!!

Presentation was beautiful and the food was very tasty, just a little pricey! The crispy squid to start was fabulous, as was the dim sum. My husband had the duck with black pepper sauce for main and I had the singapore noodles. His duck was delicious with very tender, lean duck pieces. The singapore noodles was very tasty, with an extra spicy kick if compared to other restaurants. I'd recommend a visit.

While I wouldn't say I was disappointed by the food at Abacus it wasn't exactly fantastic and a little expensive considering. I had the Barbecue spare ribs to start which were beautiful and of a good size. My main course was the Cantonese style duck which wasn't bad but it was quite bland after the first few mouthfuls. Having said that my boyfriend loved his meal from start to finish so perhaps it was just the dish I chose. The dessert was lovely also, chocolate cake and a mug of hot chocolate. The atmosphere was a little lacking. There was only one other couple there as we were dining. As we were getting towards the end of our meal the staff started getting the rest of the tables ready for breakfast (the restaurant is in a hotel) which was a little disruptive. The service was also quite slow at times considering there was virtually no one there. In a sentence Abacus wasn't bad but I wouldn't rush back.

Lovely resturant - hidden gem really. You would walk past this place and not know it was there which I think explains the fact that it was empty when we arrived (ok it was early evening and they had just opened) but only half full when we left. Food is exactly what you would expect in a good asian fusion with a good selection of wines. Very comfortable seats, friendly staff. I would expect this place to become busier as it is "discovered".

Visited this restaurant a few weeks ago and had a great time. There are two entrances - one from Parnell street (which is known as China town) and the other through the foyer of the Academy Plaza hotel, which is very impressive. The service was excellent, very fast and efficient. It was quiet at the time but you can see by the way the staff moved that on busy nights, you would be well looked after. The food arrived about 15 minutes after ordering and was piping hot. Definitely cooked to order and so fresh. It was delicious. Prices would be typical of a good Asian restaurant and I would highly recommend it.
