I have heard about this place for a long time so decided to try it out, I dont know were to begin about the noise as I have never been in a restaurant with so much noise, I dont know how that happened but our waiter could not hear what we we wanted to order with all the noise as he had only started working there. I was with some old friend and we like to talk when out, you could only hear the person sitting next to you. The food was good, the decor is very simple no frills, I wont be back due to the noise.

I ate here for the first time last night. We ordered from the set menu of 2 courses for 29.95 which was good value. The restaurant was packed the whole time we were there, with a nice atmosphere and friendly, efficient staff. The food was very good, particularly the chicken with tomato, chorizo & mediterranean ragout and rocket & sun-dried tomato pesto which was really flavoursome and served with delicious duck fat roast potatoes. It was one of the nicest meals I have had out in a while and we will definitely go back. A nice spot on the northside of the city centre.

Dined here with a group pre theatre and we all went for the early bird. Busy when we got there but had cleared out when we were leaving. Meals were served promptly. Portions were large. The only problem was that after the main course meals were cleared we were not asked about dessert tea/coffee and could not get the servers attention to order. Good value & food but inconsistent service

Went here with my boyfriend about 2 weeks ago. Very busy, lively place, atmosphere is grand, if a bit bright! Food was good, my boyfriend had pheasant which he said was excellent except for the piece of lead he bit down on, understandable with game so not a big issue if you have no fillings! As a pescatarian (eat some fish but no meat) I ordered fish which was awesome, portions are excellent. Only complaint was the menu mentioned nothing about bacon, asked waiter if bacon was meant to be in my spinach and he said no....there was a few pieces throughout the dish. In fairness, they couldn't have been nicer and offered a replacement meal or complimentary desert. I didnt have one but tasted my boyfriends toffee pudding which was really moist and delicious. All in all we would both go back and recommend giving here a go. If a veggie just make sure you check ingredients;)

Four of us ate here last night. We ordered the early bird menu. It was delicious and a steal at 21euro per person. The staff were friendly and the service was efficient. It is a noisy spot so not the place for a romantic night out. However with friends or casual dining it's perfect and the atmosphere is great. We will definitely be back to 101 Talbot. Highly recommended.

Ate here during Dine in Dublin week. Enjoyed delicious mussels, vension bourguignon and panna cotta. The food was all very good and in decent portion sizes, but the tables are quite closely packed and it can be hard to hear. I wouldn't come back for a special occasion or romantic night, but I'd definitely come back for a pre-theatre meal.

we arrived here on a saturday evening before going to the theatre. the atmosphere was buzzing and the waitress, who greeted us, was friendly. we were given the table we wanted as long as we were leaving by 7. we ordered the set menu at 21euro for two courses. Although my starter of butternut tart was delicious the rest of our order was very disappointing I ordered the haloumi kebab which was rubbery and not a full portion for a main course.. it came with a chilli sauce which tasted bland and amateur. my friend was very disappointed with the parsnip dip and chickpea cakes. i love this restaurant and have been a regular. Im just sorry the food has gone so downhill.

We choose to eat here as we were going to a play and its one of few decent places on the north side. We had the early bird which was a starter, main and tea/coffee for €21. There was a notice on the door that they are giving the VAT reduction back to the customers so could be less now. I had a hot smoked trout for starter which was nice and light. Others had the beetroot, cashew, ginger dip which was fantastic - the favours were beautiful together. Main I had the seafood linguine. It was nice but wayy too much. Pasta sauce was a bit too heavy, would had preferred something lighter with all that seafood esp. the nice crab claws. There was still some grit in my mussels and clams which is a pet hate of mine. Others had the veggie gratin which tasted lovely but was way too much also. We winded down with herbal teas and speciality coffees. It was exactly what we needed - a nice bite before we headed off to a mid week play.

Ate here with a friend en route to a play. We were served by an extremely helpful and pleasant waiter. My friend was late and as a direct result we were late ordering. By the time our food arrived we had very little time to eat it even though our waiter had sped things up in the kitchen for us. My mate had hake which she loved. I had a very tasty sirloin which was perfectly cooked however oweing to the time factor I had to take the remainder of the steak with me. The atmosphere was buzzing with practically a full house of diners. The next time I come here I will allow plenty of time to enjoy my dining experience and so I dont have to leave in a rush.

Visited 101 on Friday evening with my family. Having heard very good reports on the restaurant it is somewhere we had always said we must go. Overall, I was really quite dissapointed. I had the daily special of Duck. My wife had Chicken from the early bird menu. The food was nice enough but I thought it was a little expensive. I was little suprised too when I asked if the special could be included in the early bird menu as a main course I got a very blunt "No". Wont be rushing back...

Visited here for the first time on Friday with wife and 4 friends. Had heard about its good reputation and wasn't disappointed. The service was friendly and attentive. Two of our party were delayed and there was no issue about waiting to order when they arrived. The food was exceptional. Particular favourites were the tabbouleh salad for starters and the monkfish tails for main course. We had a lovely crisp Touraine Sauvignon Blanc. The bill was hefty enough in the current climate so would only go on special occasions. We were a bit too late for the early bird which seems better value.

had lunch here. nice place staff were welcoming and efficient. bread and water kept topped up. food is simple yet tasty. both of us had different curries for mains. i had the lamb and chickpea moroccan curry which while tasty only had a paltry 4 pieces of lamb in it which was disappointing and left me feeling like i didnt get value for money overall, came with tabbouleh which was slightly lacking in flavour. the butternut squash, aubergine and nut curry was plentiful and delicious. my creme brulee was perfectly cooked with a nice crisp sugar coating. overall enjoyed the lunch with lack of lamb in main course only downer

I came here last night for an early work dinner. When I arrived (earlier than my companions), I was greeted by a friendly waiter, given a pitcher of water and lovely fresh bread and butter. Once everyone was at the table, we ordered off the early bird menu. I ordered the smoked salmon and then the chicken breast with roasted vegetables. It was all fresh and delicious. My colleague had the lamb starter and then the vegetarian curry. It was all wonderful. Looking at the others' food, the mushroom lasagne looked delicious. For 21 euro, the meal was excellent value and the food was worth coming back again. I'm delighted that the service matched the food.

I went here knowing what to expect: good food, not a place to take someone for a romantic evening (the lights are way too bright) but a nice little haunt in the north of Dublin. Even though the lights are too bright, the tables are stuffed together and the stairs in the place conspire to kill you, it can't lose that much for atmosphere cos the place is always packed with chatter! I would suggest they put the music a little louder and get rid of the very uncomfortable chairs they have (or at least add a cushion). The food was tasty, I had the peanut curry, creme brulée and salmon. The salmon starter was too salty, but still interesting to the palate, otherwise the meal was great. She had the pork belly and was very happy with her choice. All in all, a good restaurant and I would go back.

I had been hearing about this place for a long time and couldn't wait to see whether it was up to the glowing reports. This Friday early evening they saw me to a table for one in no time despite being busy. Picking from the Early Bird Menu I had the ham hock terrine - spot on, followed by the moules marinieres. Now I know about moules, having in the past visited Belgium several times a month. These were beautiful, as was the side salad. My one gripe would be the lack of choice of wines by the glass (one white) or half bottle (two whites - Sauvignon Blanc drinkable if not great). Other than that, attentive service, busy atmosphere which I'll gladly chalk up to the place's deserved reputation and good value.

Myself and my friend ate here recently after she had purchased a citydeal deal. There is a great atmosphere here, the place was buzzing but not too noisy that you couldn't talk. We ordered a maincourse each and a bottle of house wine. I had a beef stew which was lovely, really homely and perfect comfort food for a cold winters evening. My friend had the chicken which she said was delicious! We were both too stuffed to have a dessert but will definately be going back here again. Yummy food and great service!

We went here for a Valentines meal. It is a very quaint establishment with friendly staff and a good atmosphere. The food was excellent. We had the early bird menu at €21.95 for 2 courses and tea/coffee. This was pricey compared to other restaurants but was worth it. For starters we had Home cured duck salad served with red cabbage and fennel slaw (sweet but delicious) and Char-grilled aubergine and Wicklow blue cheese crostini with sun-dried tomato pesto (very nice). The main course was Char-grilled breast of free-range Irish chicken stuffed with black pudding & goats cheese served with spring onion mash and Dijon cream sauce. The combination of flavours was to die for. The only let down was that we could not get the staffs attention to order our coffees. Then when we asked for the bill it took ages (15 minutes) while the staff member served another 3-4 tables and forgot about us. Others were having the same problem. It is simple things like this that really let good restaurants down.

Broad menu with plenty of options. The food seems to have a Middle Eastern influence with plenty of spicy options. The staff are professional and friendly. The only problem I can see with this restaurant is that it is totally lacking in atmosphere. It feels a bit like a canteen.

Really excellent restaurant. Great privacy between tables due to sunken floor, clever. Food couldn't have been better. Had the early bird for a very reasonable €21.95. There were 5 of us dining and we all had something different. We swapped forkfuls and all agreed that all dishes were great. We vowed to come again and try different dishes. The house wines were reasonably priced at twenty and a bit. Excellent, attentive but not overbearing service. Will be back soon.

101 is a fabulous restaurant. I discovered it a few years ago when my wife and I were going to the Gate Theatre and wanted to go for a bit beforehand. Once inside the restaurant, you actually forget where you are and the atmosphere of the place just takes over. They always have a few really good vegetarian options on. On the night in question, we decided to go for the vegetarian curry which was thick with aubergines and chickpeas. It was absolutely delicious. Their food is always a bit idifferent and as a vegetarian, I have to say it provides far more choice than most mainstream restaurants. Their wine is always good and it remains a firm choice for us for our pre-theatre meal.

Group of 4 visited on a lively Saturday night. The restaurant was very busy & the tables are really on top of each other, though I didn't find other people's conversations impinging on our own. Service was good, prompt and very polite. Food was good & some varied choices on the menu. The early bird menu at €23 odd for 2 courses was nothing special in terms of value & desserts at €8 were expensive. Overall I found it a bit expensive for what it was, but can't fault the food or service.

Wow, wow and wow! I was in this restaurant years before when it was only a few years open after changing from the American Connection. They were known for their veggie dishes and I can say this has not changed. The atmosphere is fantastic, smaller and more intimate that alot of city centre restaurnats and the art work on teh walls adds a little something extra too. The food was excellent, we orderd the saugage and the bean dip, OMG, in the words of thos spikey haired twins! The mains were the vegitarian Gratain and the Pork Cutlets. They were even better! The dessert was the brownie which was better than the main, the night could not have been any more perfect! All in all we had a bottle of wine and 2 three course meals with coffe for under 80 auid. The value in here is the best int he city in my opinion!

Busy little restaurant serving good grub. Myself and my husband shared the hummus, chilli and coriander which was very nice and both had salmon, which was also delicious. We had the apple pie for dessert, which was a very small portion for sharing and tasted average. Overall the food was good and value also good. Only major downside is there is a poor atmoshpere.

This is a lovely restaurant in a great location. It was very busy even though we were early for a Friday night, about 6 o clock and the restaurant was full!! There is good lighting in the restaurant but space is an issue. When the table opposite us was full the waiting staff had to keep asking my boyfriend to move for them so they could get through. They should have walked around. The service was excellent until two large tables came in and then we were totally forgotten about. We couldnt even get the bill and had to wait at the cash register to pay. But before that the service had been excellent. The food was amazing!! Absolutely the best white chocolate cheese cake i've ever had, I think its actually the best dessert Ive ever had!! Would definately go back for that alone. Pheasant and steak were both great. Only lost half a mark for the skimpy amount of blue cheese in the starter. Fabulous black pudding starter but needed more of the cheese. I would definately recommend this restaurant.

Had dinner here wednesday evening with the girls. Good atmosphere in the restaurant lots of people, would say the tables are quite close together and can feel slightly too cosy! Had the tuna which was really tasty and cooked perfectly, couldnt fault it. The girls had the steak and all 3 of them were very impressed, no complaints. All in all will definately be returning.

Came in for a quick meal before meeting friends on the town. The welcome, as always, was fantastic. We hadn't booked but were seated immediately. Starters amazing - beetrooty one and salad, mains delightful - (pasta and vegetarian dishes) and accompanied by a nice buidéal of vino to wash it down. No time for dessert this time but we will be back over the Christmas holidays. Just love this restaurant :-)

Had dinner her on a Saturday evening at about 6pm and it was prettey busy for that time of day. I had the pheasant with roast potatoes and sprouts, it was my first time to try pheasant and I thought it was lovely. There was some tough meat but the majority was nice, the sprouts were a bit too hard but the roast potatoes were really good. My friend had pork belly which she really enjoyed and it came with fab mash and cabbage, the only downside was that there was no crackling. For dessert I had a white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, my god it was something else, the nicest I had ever tasted, my friend ordered the chocolate brownie but found it to cocoa-like and bitter, desserts were huge too. I would definetely go again.

I came here with my partner. He heard about it, I hadn't. On first impressions, the décor left a lot to be desired, felt a little more like a cafe, with the uncomfortable seats, and lay out. But the most important thing.... The food was amazing! We both got different starters and mains, and ended up sharing both because it all tasted so good. For tasty food I definitely recommend it. But I would advise the manager to put a little more effort into making the place a little more cosy.

I was looking forward to visiting this restaurant as I heard so may good reviews in the past. To start the place is not comfortable, it is not a nice restaurant, it looks more like a canteen in a warehouse. Some of the waiters were nice, some were very abrupt but the service overall was the only okay thing worth talking about. Food was awful, not even worth to mention. I would not recommend this place at all.

Came here for the early bird a few nights ago. Had the three cheese pastry for starters and it was delicious, if a bit sweet for a starter. Less impressed with the main course, I ordered a salmon/tomato/cream sauce pasta which sounded amazing but ended up being totally bland. I'm not exaggerating when I say that I couldn't taste any of the flavours, even when I picked a piece of salmon out away from the sauce. Very disappointing. Dessert and coffee was lovely, however. Usually not a dessert person but had a taste of my friend's apple/strawberry tart and had to order one of my own! Service was very friendly and efficient. A nice experience overall but disappointed with the main course. I should mention though that the people I was with loved their main courses, they both had the chicken. I would probably go back but order something else next time. Also, a warning for those using the restaurant's website - the online menu for the early bird is NOT the same as the actual menu currently being offered. In fact, it's totally different! Worth bearing in mind if something tickles your fancy when browsing the website.

Went there with some friends for early bird before night out. Service and atmosphere were great, food was very nice but a little bit small portions, great for if you not too hungry. And starters & mains both brought out together if you want. Would recommend if wanted something light before a night out.

We'd gone to 101 Talbot fair few times 2-3 years ago, we were always very happy with the service, but somehow we forgot about it. We went there again before the play in Abbey few weeks ago. We didn't have much time so we went only for mains and some wine. I had tuna steak and he had just steak. I was very impressed. Probably one of the nicest meals I've ever had and we eat very well and dine out in nice places. I had it done medium rare and it was perfect! Texture, flavours, the sides of roasted potatoes and asparagus, all just 10 out of 10. He liked his steak, was raving about the flavours, but found it just a little bit stringy. House wine was delicious and staff very friendly. The only drawback would be that the restaurant is very crowded and loud and there's not much privacy, but the food makes up for it.

This was my first time dining here although I have been wondering about it for some time. For some reason the impression I had of the place was completely different from what it was actually like. It is very informal, almost cafe like but has a warm atmosphere and we were greeted politely by the staff. I was using a voucher that I had acquired which allowed for a main course and glass or house wine each. I opted for the goats cheese and thyme tart which was very tasty and good portion size. My friend opted for the chicked but upon arrival promptly picked out a hair from the very top of the potatoes as soon as the waitress left the table. He did not wish to cause a fuss and so ate it. We both agreed the food was really nice and tasty, even if the extra portion of hair was not exactly what we would have hoped for. Possibly a little expensive for what you get but a nice place all the same.

I was taken by suprise with this restaurant. It was fabulous. The atmosphere was brilliant and the service was first class. We had hummus and soup to start and both had steak for mains. All the dishes were tasty and fresh. Next time I feel like steak I will be returning here!

restaurant isn't much to look at but the food is nice and the service is good also. Pre-theatre/early bird menu is quite reasonably priced but not as competitive as some places.

Myself and my partner decided to go here as we had vouchers to redeem so we went on Friday at about 7pm. We were greeted and seated immediately and there was a nice buzz in the place. Ive been before and was delighted with everything so was happy to be there again. We had the hummus and veg sticks for starters and a pigeon & rabbit meatloaf which was quite nice. For mains we had goats cheese quiche and venison which were very tasty. We had no room for desserts :( big portions. Toilets were spotless, staff were efficient and friendly and the food was great. Will be back soon!

We have been to this restaurant many times before and it was especially convenient for us this time to go to the Theatre Festival. As usual the food was very good and the service also good. It is always very busy here and that is a very good sign.

I had a really enjoyable evening here with my partner. Food wise - my partner had linguine marinara which he found light on the seafood and heavy on the overpowering sauce, however the mushroom on toast starter was extremely tasty. I had the crab starter which was lovely but a tad on the salty side and the beef was very tender and well cooked, the wine sauce was very strong though. Overall, we had a good experience the service was efficient and it was good value for money and we will return.

Visited this restaurant for the first time last night, and to be honest don't think I will return; the staff where very nice etc but I ordered the duck breast with duck leg confit (which I've had many times in other restaurants), the duck breast was beautiful but once I bit into the confit I had to spit it out. The smell and the taste was awful, it turned me off the rest of my meal. The manager was very nice and asked me what the problem was, he explained that this is a wild duck and checked with the chef who said it was fine, there is no way this was fine the smell alone would put you off, I told him I love duck and eat it all the time, even my companion smelt it the duck and said there was something wrong with it. He offered my companion and I a free dessert but I could not accept this offer. Really disappointed, as I'm sure it was just a one off but to blame me for not 'appreciating wild duck' when I have had this dish many times was a tad off putting.

6 of us went for a bite to eat pre-theatre last Saturday evening. Restaurant was pretty full and there was a good atmosphere about the place. The starters were vension & hazelnut sausage, goats cheese, smoked salmon, wid boar & pigeon X 2, all good with the exception of the sausage, which was a little overcooked. The main courses hake X 3 and steak by 3 were excellent. Unfortiunately no time to try the deserts. Service was excellent and the food was good value for money. Overall a good experience, will definitely give it another try for an early evening meal.

It's been about 2 years since my last visit to the Talbot 101. The dining room is much brighter now and pleasant. We were there for 6 and it really filled up within 30 mins. We all ate from the Early bird menu which has some lovely dishes. I had the salmon and crab pate with lightly toasted brown bread and a gorgeous little salad. Some really well dressed leaves. The pate was really tasty. Chicken stuff with pancetta for mains was gorgeous, the sauce with it was rich creamy and so tasty. After 2 very substantial courses there was no room for dessert, although the strawberries with cream and baby meringues looked very tempting.

After a long absence I returned to the talbot 101 for a quick pre-theatre with some friends. The food as always a highlight. We shared a sun-dried tomato/cashew dip & olives to start & then hit the main courses. Everyone was happy. Enormous portions (perhaps a little too big? - it's nice not to waste food). As a vegetarian I am also always very happy to see more than 1 option on the main course list for veggies. Very reasonably priced (120 for 4 mains & 2 drinks each). The only slight gripe is the noise level. It's hard to hear yourself think.....so a little sound proofing would be lovely. Will def go back again soon for a longer, lazier dinner.....

Our Book Club group of 6 ate in 101 yesterday evening before going to the Abbey for a 7.30 show. Arrived at 5.45 ....service was fast, efficient and professional. Everybody was very happy with their choice of starters and maincourses. I had the wild mushroom, blue cheese in filo pastry etc. option. Perfect. Lovely atmosphere. Will be back again soon

I ate here yesterday, it's a great pre-theatre choice. My main was Roast field mushrooms, Wicklow blue cheese and leeks wrapped in filo pastry, served with a spinach & white wine cream sauce, was tasty but so unbelievably salty I could hardly finish it, which was a real shame. The desert was really good though, a mango parfait with lime and coconut marshmallow. I would still come again, as the first time I visited it was really tasty, but I was a bit disappointed this time around.

Great serving portions. Very tasteful starters too!! It wasn't crowded and the tables are well spaced!! Staff are friendly and VERY attentive. For mains, the porkbelly was good portioned. I thought the bbq sauce was too overbearing. The lamb dish looked good, tasted good and is good! Will recommend and return definitely!! Nice one!

My girlfriend and I ate here last night and upon arrival there was a good crowd of people in the restaurant. The staff and service were mixed depending on which member of staff was looking after you it went from below average to brilliant. We had the earlybird menu and food was fantastic, I started with the Venison terrine and she had the soup, gently spiced and lovely. Mains were delicious aswel, opting for the chicken and celeriac rosti with goats cheese. Both delicious. Wine the pinot grigio was ok nothing to shout about but service of the wine was unbelievably bad. After ordering it, our waitress immediately opened the bottle and poured directly without offering to taste, in my opinion a massive mistake. Excellent value for money and probably will return as the food was the best thing about the restaurant.Compliments to the chef/s!

I had a meal here with friends. Upon our arrival there was a mix up with our booking and I have to say the staff could not be faulted for sorting everything out for us, although the place was out the door with xmas parties. They placed us at a very cosy table by the window and served us a wonderful meal. We will certainly return to this venue. and i would have no problem in reccomending them to any one.

Wow, a work group of 12. no propblem with service or space, which I found in ither restaurants in the past. Excellent set menu. The mussels wer outstanding to start, steaks cooked to perfection. Baileys coffees offered as a dessert alternative. Great night had by all. Looking forward to a return visit.

It was a last minute decision to try 101 Talbot for a quick bite before the cinema. We rang ahead and were assured that there would be no problem getting a table. Arrived just after 6pm, and were seated straight away in warm, welcoming, buzzy room. We opted for the early bird - €21.95 for starter, main course and tea/coffee as it seemed such good value and would be quick. All of the food was excellent - Potted Coconut and Lentil spread with crudites and pittas was really unusual and tasty, and could have served two, and the Lamb Meatballs with salad and dressing were delicious. The stuffed chicken breast main course was perfectly done and presented, and the haloumi and vegetable kebab with warm bulgar salad was really tasty. With a couple of glasses of wine, it was a perfectly pitched supper. Service was friendly and faultless throughout. It was only after we'd paid and left that I realised we hadn't been offered the tea or coffee which I thought was included, but that is my only quibble. I hadn't been for many years, but I'll definitely be back!

Recommended by a friend. They lost our reservation but made sure to look after us anyway despite being very busy with Christmas parties. Tables were moved and we sat looking out onto Talbot Street. Their set menu is great value for night time dining and allows no excuse for skipping their terrific dessert! Original, not your usual presentation. We will return hopefully.

Terrific, a staple and a reliable one at that. 6 of us went before a gig in the O2, most had the pork belly main course from the early bird menu. This was excellent, well cooked and a decent portion, and for the money an absolute winner. Talbot 101 has been a super pre-theatre and pre-gig venue for me over many years, and I have organised office parties there in the past. Perhaps the most consistently good value for money restaurant in Dublin at it's price point.

My wife and I had always been talking about going to this place, after seeing the many awards that they received. The atmosphere was nice, a typical european restaurant kinda feel, though it's bit cramped. Food was actually not bad, I only gave it a 3.5/5 because there was so much hype but somehow we felt a bit disappointed. My wife ordered the pork and I had the steak, portion wise was decent, but both dishes were bit too dry, though the taste is there. Service was great, and if you opt for the early bird, I would say it's worth the money, but I would suggest perhaps go when it's not too busy, as it was fullhouse that night and we suspected that the chefs were swamped.

I have been to 101 Talbot a number of times (and was always very satisfied), so I decided to book our office Christmas party there for 12 people. When we arrived the place was PACKED, so I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of service since they were so busy! However my fears were dispelled almost immediately by the prompt, competent, and friendly waiter. He made suggestions, and even gave my colleague a taster of the seafood chowder because she was unsure about ordering it! The chowder turned out to be delicious, and so was my starter - the black pudding, bleu cheese & apple salad. The mains were gorgeous as well with the favourites among the group being the pork belly, chicken, and mussels. None of my 11 colleagues had been to 101 Talbot before, so I was a bit nervous introducing them to one of my favourite restaurants. But 101 Talbot did me proud! My friends were very impressed and said they'd definitely go back. The only constructive criticism I have is that the floor was almost dangerously slippy - especially with a lot of the girls in heels! Other than that, a fabulous meal was had by all!

I came here with a group of friends on Thursday. Fabulous buzzy atmosphere if a bit tight. I ordered garlic bread to start, quite tasty. then linguine and meatballs for mains, I felt there was too much pasta and not enough meatballs. The cheesecake was lush but gorgeous! 101 Talbot isn't cheap but is nice for a treat. Staff were so nice and charming.

While I enjoyed my night in the 101 Talbot I was a little disappointed as I didn't think the food was as good as I remembered it....I hadn't been there for a couple of years. There were just two of us and my friend ordered garlic bread for starters and it was too big....made on huge chunky slices of bruschetta. My starter was nicer, hummous which came with vegatable crudites and pitta bread. Again I did better on the main course with stuffed peppers, really spicyand tangy, quite successful. My friend had ordered chicked and the portion that came was so big it looked off putting to me, though she said it tasted nice. I must say that for a Tuesday night it was pretty busy so they are obviously doing something right.

I had dinner here last Thursday - the place was packed which is understandable as Christmas party season begins, but I have to say that didn't take away from the service or quality of the food served. The place is nice, the tables are a little bit cramped as it is such a small venue and I don't recall hearing music. The food was great, we ate from the early bird and then had additional desserts. The menu was a little limited but everything we had was excellent. There were also good vegetarian options on the menu. One fault is that there is no dessert option on the set menu and that makes it expensive as an additional extra. However it is probably worth splashing out as they were to die for - I highly recommend the chocolate and raspberry cheesecake! The staff were very good and helpful, they were attentive and not too pushy. I didn't like how you pay on the way out as it makes it an ordeal if you are there with guests etc. All that said, I will be back!

Hadn't eaten here in a while. It was busy as usual but the manager was very friendly and nice, she got us a table as quick as she could. We only had mains, which were lovely. i had the meatballs which were recommended.. and were gorgeous! Huge portion so starter wasn't needed! My BF had the chicken he cleared his plate! It's a bit off the beaten track, but worth a visit!

My family and I went there for my sisters birthday and it was lovely, although after going there for a number of years I did find the quality of the food has waned. I had the pate to start, which was lovely, and the fish pie as my main, which wasn't great. There was very little fish in it and, unfortuately, it was mostly melted cheese. Another member of our party had the same dish and couldn't wat it as her portion was entirely cheese and sauce, there was no fish in it. Everyone else had a wonderful main dish though, so I think it was just ours. Its a wonderful place to hold a party, and the staff were very good and brought out a candle in her dessert. It was excellent value for money also.

Went here last night on a wet and windy day. They were doing a great early bird for 21.95. I had the Pumpkin, Cashel blue cheese and broccoli tart for the starter and it was delicious. Very well seasoned and flavoured. For the mains I had the Parsnip & hazelnut cakes with asparagus spears and red pepper & tomato sauce. It comes with a side salad also. The portions here are very good and the food is of a very good quality. The menu early bird or full menu is of a very good selection. They have a decent wine list that is good value as well. Service was top notch

I brought my mam here recently as she was on a visit to Dublin and staying near by. This was my second visit in less than a month and it did not let me down. On both occasions it has been busy and there was a nice buzz in the air. The waiting staff are friendly and attentive and make the service seem effortless. The menu on both occasions was completly different which I loved as they use seasonal ingredients. I had the brocolli, garlic and cheddar soup and chicken for main. There was a lot of selection and I could have had at least 4 things. My mother had the gooseberry tart for dessert and it was gorgeous. I would recommend this to anyone as there is something for everyone. They have a great value early bird menu.

Went here with family and was excellent meal. Great place for steaks and lamb from what we had. The 10% service charge as there were six of us added a hefty amount to the bill. Will be back perhaps for the early bird.

My friend had been dying to try this restaurant for ages. We went in about 6pm on Saturday evening and as we hadn't booked, we were told the table was needed again at 7pm. It wasn't busy at first but was buzzing by 7. The early bird menu is very limited. My friend ordered from this and I ordered from the main menu. The food was ok, nothing to rave about or rush back for. Staff were friendly and very efficient. Don't think I'll go back as there is much better value to be had elsewhere.

Having had 101 Talbot suggested to me, a group of four went here for a pre-theatre dinner, so it was a bit rushed and we only went for the main course. The selection of dishes on the menu is a pretty conservative affair (do not be lured by the sample menu they provide on their own website, as what is in-shop is very different and even less adventurous than the listed traditional selection). This suited two of the group, who were very happy with their parsnip and sweet potato rosti and chicken dishes. My own selection was lamb, but this turned out to be very dry and accompanied by a poor selection of vegetables. The other person in the group left with a sense of ‘meh’ about the food. But where it lacks on the food side, it makes up for in the service the staff provide and the general atmosphere of the place. If I were to reserve a place at 101 Talbot again, the decision would largely be driven by the tastes of people I would go with rather than my own.

This is a great place. I always find the menu really appealing; sometimes early bird menus are very limited and the nice things are on the full menu. On this menu there were several things that we both thought looked really good. I had a really delicious monkfish, spinach and chorizo cannelloni. There is a nice combination of more traditional (chicken, lamb) and interesting vegetarian choices. Service is great and there is no hassle. In the past I've found them very considerate of getting you served and finished in time for the theatre. One of the best in Dublin, in my opinion.

Ate here with three others on Friday night. All went for the early bird which has a limited choice and personally found it difficult to choose a starter, went for baba ganoush in the end...a bit tasteless, but all other starters were nice. All mains were fine. Wine list fairly priced. Service excellent. Good for vegetarian and casual dining.

Talbot 101s unique selling point use to be its great value pre-theatre meal but in recent months restaurants all over the city have finally got their acts together and started to offer very competitive menus. It's been about a year since I visited this busy but relaxed eatery and I was really looking forward to the visit as I've always enjoyed it in the past. However, I was a little disappointed in the quality of the choices on offer this time and was forced to opt for a starter and main which I would normally avoid if the menu was more to my liking. My companion and I both had the warm crispy lamb salad to start - it was warm but by no means crispy and would have benfiited from having a bit more of a kick to it. The sweet potatoe that accommpanied by chicken breast with bacon mouse toally over-powered my main. My mouth was lft watering at the sight of my companions pork belly which he assured me was even tastier than it looked. The service was very good and staff were very attentative - replacing my glass of wine free of charge when I spilled it was a nice touch. All in all two courses and a glass of wine for €55 meant it was good value but I think it could be improved by providing a three course specail offer. Given the increase in competition for choosy diners on a budget, 101 might will need to work harder to develop a more pleasing offering if it is to retain its 'best value' title.

Average at best. Went here with a group of 8 on a busy Thursday night. A few of us went for the early bird menu - 2 courses and coffee/tea for €21.95. Choice on this menu isn't great. I had the soup which was average. The dips were ok. I had the chicken dish which was tasty, but the main courses took a while to arrive, considering we all had starters first. The fish was very good. Wine list is decent. Overall I don't think the food is worth the hype, but there's nothing wrong with it particularly. Not in a very nice location!

We hadn't been to the 101 in ages so we were all looking forward to it. We arrived for our 6.30pm booking and the place was buzzing, just like our previous visits. We decided on our two options from the Early value menu and were thrown off course when the starter wasn't available. I was somewhat taken aback that they'd none left by 7pm in the evening - it's quite a restricted menu and we couldn't find anything else we wanted as a starter so we had to peruse the a la carte. We ordered a bottle of wine to have also. Ten minutes later the waitress came back to apologise and to say that they had no wine glasses available, but she'd bring some as soon as possible. I have to say, that's a first. She came back with glasses about 5 minutes later, boiling hot from the dishwasher and offered to put ice in them to cool them down. We turned down her offer, as we were having red wine. My linguine with wild boar sausage was lovely and the portion was such that you wouldn't feel over full after it. My companions enjoyed their food also. To be honest though, the service was a let down. This used to be a great value restaurant - not as much so now, with competition alive and well.

Visited pre theatre and was pleased with my visit. In general it was as "buzzy" as usual and packed. The waiter recommended the house white as the best value which is always encouraging. Had the salad starter which was OK. It could have been a little larger though! I had the chicken with roasted veg which was delightful. I thought the early bird menu wasn't great value as we don't drink tea or coffee and the menu was quite limited. Perhaps slightly extend the menu (green salad would be a plus!) and offer tea/coffee or glass or house wine might be an idea. All in all a nice visit and I would be back.

Went to 101 Talbot last night. The place was really busy even though we arrived shortly after 6 pm. My rack of lamb was wonderful and so was the sauce and the fondant potatoe. The grilled aspargus however had sand in them and they tasted burnt (they even left black marks on the plate). The duck main disk looked lovely but one of our companions did not like her parpadelle with mushrooms. Service was good and quick but the room itself has not much atmosphere and the noise was pretty bad (that could have been our own fault though as we were a big group).

101 Talbot has never failed to impress me and my most recent visit was no different. Like other reviews have mentioned, one of the first thing that hits when you walk in the door is the noise, with 4 large groups there it was a little deafening at first but we soon got used to it, in fact it seemed a little quiet when they left :) All our courses were excellent, pork & pistachio sausage and black pudding & blue cheese salad for starters were both excellent though the sausage portion was a little small. For mains chicken breast was incredibly tender and juicy and the salmon fillet was huge and wonderfully fresh with a delicious crispy skin. A shared creme brule was the perfect end. Love this restaurant and can't wait to go back again.

I was here a couple of times years ago but always found the restaurant to be too noisy so I never went back - until last Friday when we were hungry and happened to be walking by. The menu isn't very exciting to read so I was expecting bland food. Thankfully I was wrong! I had the goats cheese and sundried tomato crostini to start and it was really good, much lighter than I'd expected. My husband had the hummus with crudites, which he liked but I thought it was a little boring. For main course I had the lentil and courgette lasagne and it was amazing. The menu description doesn't do it justice. He had the stuffed peppers, which again were amazing. We shared a chocolate & hazelnut brownie for dessert (again yum!) and had a bottle of Riesling. The total bill came to around €86. The staff were great but I still find the restaurant a little noisy. It sounds like a canteen. Maybe it needs some background music.

Very nice food and good service. Bit noisy because it is so busy. Tried the cheesecake because of the recommendation here but actually preferred my sister's creme brulee. Would definitely go back again. Early bird to 7.45 cost €21, 2 courses with tea or coffee.

This was my first time back in years to the Talbot 101 and it was mad busy, as expected. With no reservation, they said they could fit us in at the back and for 45 mins only. We were hungry and wanted some decent grub quick, so took it. And it was quick! But it was very very good. I had the Halibut off the back of a review I read on menupages and this person were right, it is a star on the menu and fabulous. My partner had the Pork Belly and he love that. It was a very rush sitting, but we knew it would be. And our reward was some great food.

Dropped in to 101 for a pre theatre bite last week based on the overwhelmingly positive reviews here on menupages. It was very busy but staff seemed more than capable of dealing with the crowds. Food was ok if a little unimaginative. Lamb shoulder was braised a bit too long so it was slightly dry and stringy. Halibut was very fresh and simply cooked and definitely the star of the show. If I was in the area again I would definitely drop in but probably wouldn't make a journey especially to go there.

Ate here before a visit to the Abbey Theatre. The early bird menu is good value and the food is delicious!! The spinach, courgette and lentil lasagne is to die for, as is the smoked salmon linguine that my friends had. The rare roast beef salad for starting was bit disappointing as the cabbage bed the beef sat on was very acidic (too horseradish and wholegrain mustard). Didn't have time to sample the desserts but they sounded yum! Staff were very friendly and attentive and house reds were quite drinkable. Will definitely visit again.Total meal for 3 came to €96 incl a tip and 4 glasses of house wine.

Went there for a date with my boyfriend a while back. The atmosphere was great. For starters I got a huge plate of garlic bread so we ended up sharing it. For main I ordered chicken, which was nothing out of the ordinary and my boyfriend got a steak with which he was very happy. It was cooked exactly as he liked it. For dessert we got a huge creme brule with ginger biscuits on the side, perfect dessert for a romantic date. I'm a huge creme brule lover and this one I must say was pretty good. The service was great and the value was good.Worth going to.

Mixed feelings about the food here. Starter was nice, but the main course that I ordered was a disappointment (seafood pasta or linguine, can't remember the exact name). It came with tiny scampis and the sauce was not thick enough--I can make better at home. Haha.. However, apparently, I was the only one who did not really like the main course as everyone else loved theirs. Dessert was ok, nothing special but still good. Atmosphere was fine though a bit dark for my liking. Service, normal. Overall, above average. Might give them another try and order something else.

I was going on a date and hadn't a bean to my name. I was told this restaurant has an amazing value early bird menu and that i wouldn't be dissapointed. We both ordered the Pork Belly for main course and my date declared it the nicest thing she had ever tasted. I would have to agree with that statement. That was just one of the early bird dishes!! This restaurant is nothing short of amazing. The waitress was lovely too, an attentive and charming girl. She seems to be able to wait on so many tables with such ease and still engage in banter. To say I was impressed us an under statement. Top value; Top service; Lovely Venue; and above all else absolutely AMAZING food; for the love of God try the cheesecake!!!! I wept after it

Visited 101 Talbot last night for the first time. Really enjoyed early bird menu. Great buzz and tables full. Excellent service. Highly recommend this restaurant. Only complaint stairs going up to restaurant pretty grotty and smelly, need a revamp. Toilets likewise. However once inside restaurant no problem.

It's been a while since I've been there and forgot how dingy it is. That said the food is lovely and the early bird was good value. I had the beetroot and feta salad, yum and the seafood marinara. Wasn't overly pushed on the sauce, wasn't as tangy as I expected but still lovely. A good place to get nice food for a reasonable price.

Was there on Saturday night as we just wanted a quick bite to eat between the cinema and heading out. It is always a good bet for quick service and Saturday night was no different! We just had a main course - 1 cod and 1 smoked chicken linguini and we were both happy with our choices. The food was very tasty - generous portions but not too big (which can be off putting!). Its not exactly cheap but worth it!

Called in after the Bodies exhibiton thinking we wouldnt get a table but luckily there was one available. Given lovely bread to start and shared a portion of olives, which was very large and olive were lovely. Main courses were 2 smoked chicken and 1 of the vegetable curries. All were really lovely, tasty and good portion sizes. I particularly like the side salad which also comes with main courses. This is a real gem of a restaurant, execellent quality food for great prices, highly reccomend. There are aren't many restaurants that I know of on the North side but this one is really lovely.

This restaurant was so good I felt I had to join menupages to rave about it! Four of us went, the other three regular diners there and had talked up the place a lot so I expected it wouldn't live up to the hype. Skipped the starters because I'd heard the desserts would bring tears to a glass eye. So I went with the pork belly to make sure I till had room. It was cooked to absolute perfection. How they manage to take such care for each dish in such a large restaurant is beyond me.. The kitchen must be massive! The portions are generous and the staff are friendly & funny which all adds to the experience. I hadn't had such a enjoyable main course in countless meals. For dessert I had the cheese cake. AND the rest of the night was meaningless as that stole the show. I'll be back next Friday. I'm hooked!!!

I had a the early bird here last week and I have the say the food was really good and the wine reasonable. We got a dessert between us which was nice but a bit pricey. The service was good and very friendly but I would not be particularly keen on the place itself but aside from that it was good.

Student food comes to mind. I ordered the goat's cheese crostini to start. It was a thick slice of ordinary bread with a fairly bland goat's cheese on top. It was thrown on a small withered looking salad with no dressing. For my main I ordered Roasted Pepper with broccoli, blue cheese and pine nuts. The broccoli was a big hard lump in the centre of each piece. For €16.50 it was incredibley overpriced. Service was very efficient and prompt though a bit too much. I was still eating the last bite of my food when the dishes were cleared. Overall a very disappointing experience and I wouldn't recommend it.

Dropped into Talbot St. 101 for a pre theatre menu last night before heading up to the Gate. I was a first time visitor to the well renowned venue, and while it was possible to notice how they keep their prices down (cheap napkins and canteen style tables & chairs) if you’re there for the food alone, there is little reason to question their success. The service was prompt and SUPER friendly, 10 out of 10 for the staff. The food was good too, tasty and while it was only a starter and main course included in the early bird I was left feeling more then full. The visit was brief as we were heading to a show, which I think suited the venue, not sure it would be somewhere you’d go to while away an evening.

Haven't been here in over a year. Generally ok, quite ordinary food and a very busy atmosphere. I was disappointed that the a la carte menu wasn't offered, only a quite limited set menu for €40 - perhaps a bit overpriced for what they had. Some of my fellow diners are vegetarian and were only left with one choice of main, not very satisfactory.

I was here last night with a group o girlfriends - we were left waiting at the door while they got our table ready - due to the weather, it was freezing!! Then we were put at a table between two other tables and no-one could move. I was at the end of the table and people kept bumping into me. Service was fine - staff were nice but were not overly helpful or smiley. The food was definitily the best part - i had the soup which was so delicious and the Aubergine curry - was delicious. Not sure if I would go back - maybe the staff were just having a bad night.

Haven't been here in a very long time. It was as good as I remembered. great for large groups, but I wouldn't recommend it for couples. Good simple food - at a reasonable price

I had never heard of this place before so was a bit worried when a friend suggested having a xmas get together there... what a discovery! the place was buzzing with atmosphere. It was full and did not feel crowded. The table are spaced out, which i like coz you can have a chat without people overhearing your conversation. The menu is varied with options to suit everyone form the vegetarian to the meat lover. The wine was very good value (the house red was lovely) The service was just perfect. We didnt feel rushed even though it was busy and they were probablly waiting to give our table away. I really recommend this place. Try the early bird menu and you will want to come back again and again! :)

Juat to add to what everyone else has said, really nice place. Went here for a girly night out and was perfect. The food was fab, would recommened the thai beef salad to start. There was a great atmosphere in the place as well plus they had an early bird menu available until 7.45. Will definately be going back here again and again

Fantastic Food. The service is swift, the food is perfect. To start, I had chicken liver pate with the nicest brown bread I've had in a long time. My main course was tender lambshank with roasted veg. Marvellous, a little gem on the northside!

Wanted to try this place for months but never got round to it. I rang them up on the off chance to see if they had a table for 3. The early bird sitting was only available so we took that. Got there a 5.20pm the place was practically empty, I wondered what all this hype was about. We ordered from the evening menu as there was little in the price difference. By 6pm the restaurant was 95% full. My Sirloin steak arrived and looked like a large lean fillet steak and cooked to PERFECTION - pink. This is a place for people who want great food at a good price and not for those who want white tablecloths and silver service. I will definitely go back.

What can I say that hasn't been said already. Great food, great atmosphere, great service and great value. If you are looking for somewhere to go before visiting any of the nearby theatres then definitely pick here. Went to a play in the abbey with a friend recently and we decided to meet here. Best idea we ever had. Have heard others faulting the place for its location but if it was a restaurant on grafton street or anywhere else then chances are it wouldn't be as good as it is.

Just to repeat what everyone else has said, 101 is good food at a great price. Really friendly (but not intrusive) service, you just couldn't imagine a stuck up waitor lasting long here, the regulars wouldn't tolerate it. I like the fact that the menu is small but changing and covers all the bases in terms of pasta, meat, fish and usually at least one slightly unusual choice. Water and bread are brought to your table straight away. This place is always busy with a loyal following but they will always try their best to fit you in.Although the location probably isn't ideal as there isn't much else around at night but if this means they keep their reasonable prices and local attitude then I will be making the trip again and again.

We had a pre theatre meal in 101 last week. The food is definitely good and fairly priced. We had booked for six o’clock and were lucky as by 6.15 it was full. We did feel that five different members of staff asking would we like wine was a bit tiring especially as we had told the first person that we were going to a play and wanted to stay awake!! Many people have commented on the great buzz ---- we thought it was just way too noisy. Difficult to have a conversation but that might be a plus in some peoples opinion.

I took advantage of the early bird menu at the 101, just before a visit to the Abbey Theater, and I was very impressed with the quality of the food and the super efficient service.I arrived without a booking, but they still managed to put a jug of iced water, a basket of bread and a newspaper in front of me before I had time to open the menu. It's not the best location for a restaurant in Dublin, but they sure make up for it in every other way.

I visited the 101 last week as i had heard some good things about the place and was not disappointed. I loved it, it's bustling and energetic and seems to be a real haven for food lovers without the pomp you get at many places. It was absolutely heaving when we arrived but we were seated promptly and i thought the free jugs of water are a nice touch...you normally get scowled at in many places if you ask for this. Our waitress took our order and i went for the smoked haddock and cauliflower tart which was absolutely sublime, my friend had the chicken liver salad which she loved, the livers cooked perfectly and still slightly oozing...delicious! Service was quick and in no time our mains arrived, i went for the venison with braised red cabbage served with mash and smoked bacon and mushroom sauce..I'm still drooling thinking about it, I'd have ordered a pint of the sauce and drank it if i could. She had the linguine with sardines which came in real Sicilian fashion with a hint of chilli and crunchy garlic breadcrumbs...overall a real winner. We washed this down with a bottle of four sisters Shiraz and when they asked if we wanted desserts i had to go for the lemon tart even though i was stuffed to the gills. The lemon tart was perfect, quite deep and with a super zingy filling that really assaulted your palate...in a good way!! All this for under a 100 euros, I'll be back! Excellent.

We went there for an early bird menu last Tuesday, we had been there a few times before and a couple of years ago it used to be a nice place to go for an informal meal. Nowadays things have changed in a bad way. Our starters were just ok, nothing special, but one of the starters arrived to the table around 10 minutes after the other one. I am talking of a table of two here, and no explanation was given by the staff. On the main courses I had chicken, the potatoes served with it tasted like they were cooked three days before. Service wasn't the friendliest either... not impressive!!!

Food & service was ok, restaurant very busy (from 6pm). I don't know why this restaurant gets such good reviews. My two experiences in this restaurant were mediocre. I feel it is too expensive for what you get

5 & 1/2 stars! I love this restaurant. It's busy, buzzy & brilliant. It boasts excellent hard working staff in all sectors and is decorated with lovely art which you can buy if it takes your fancy. I enjoyed a strip loin steak here that tasted so good Kobe beef wouldn't challenge it. On my second adventure here (I had to go back, you’ll have to go back too) I took on the Pork Belly. It's prepared and cooked over three days is probably the nicest food I've ever tasted, it's simply amazing and it would take the staunchest critic to dare give it less than top marks. There should be a team of ninja's throwing Michelin Stars at the Chefs! Place their Pork Belly on top of your 'things to do before you die' list and go enjoy a well catered for meal in a top top restaurant! Ohhh and as if that wasn’t enough check out their prices too!

One of my favourite restaurants. Consistently good food although the decor and ambience could be better. Always packed for the early bird menu cos it's excellent value. The chef knows what he's doing! I find they're particularly good at cooking fish dishes while there are excellent options for many of my vegetarian friends as well. The only problem with the place is the location. Once on my way back to the car, I witnessed an attempted break in of my own vehicle! Not pleasant.

This is my favourite restaurant- lovely atmosphere, is always busy but not crazy loud. The food is excellent- fresh, interesting and just good food. We had salmon and duck and both perfect. Desserts hand-written up on the board, can be different every time you go, and they are just lovely!

Two of us went here for early bird menu last Thursday evening. The place was buzzing but the service was excellent, those guys really earn their money. I had the pate to start and i can't recommend it enough- delicious. He had the yellow pea, curry dip with pitta bread which was also a hit. We both had chicken to follow which i can't fault. Including coffee's and a bottle of the chillian house red our bill came to just over E60. Excellent value for money. One of those good ole reliable's that you'll always come back to because you know t won't let you down.

Talbot 101 is just fun. Buzzy and vibrant, I really enjoy the 2 level layout. Plenty of people and things to look at. Really has the eclectic feel of a pre-theatre crowd, so maybe Talbot Street is just Dublin's Broadway. Made a booking through this website for a post-Dark Knight viewing meal on Friday as we'd liked it the one time we'd been there before. Nice to start with bread and starters were both lovely. My Turbot(3 huge fillets!) was just a little too salty, but very nicely presented. Partner's stuffed chicken was gorgeous and huge. Partner's only complaint is one of my favorite aspects of the place: They have a few dishes with red meat, but the serve a lot of chicken, fish and veg dishes, none of which are wrapped in the Dublin requisite parma ham or laced with bacon! I will be back.

Four of us had the pre-theatre enu on a busy Sat night. Overall excellent food and value for money. I recommend the garlic pate starter -lovely balane of flavours , just a hint of garlic. Two of us had the chicken and two had different pasta dishes --all were rated very good. I will be back as I think this is one of the best early evening options in this area.

I went to the 101 on a busy Saturday evening for a pre-film dinner with three female friends. Two of us had dined there previously. It's a place I like because of its relaxed ambience and generally good food at a reasonable cost for a Dublin restaurant. Three of us had the early bird menu. The salad of mozzarella cheese with plum tomatoes starter was disappointing as the tomatoes were of the pale red, barely ripe Irish type. The main courses were generally appreciated. We shared a bottle of the pleasant house white Pinot Grigio. Two of us shared the almond cake dessert, which was pretty good. The consensus was good.On balance,we had an enjoyable meal.

I really like 101 Talbot. The food is great, service is relaxed, atmosphere is casual, the room is very noisy (due to all the pleasant chatter), the walls have art for sale and best of all the restaurant is great value! To start I had the chili & coriander hummus which was light & refreshing with really fresh, crunchy crudités and lightly toasted pitta. He had mushroom & chili soup which was delicious. For main he had the steak which was large, tender and utterly gorgeous while I had the hake which was flaky and perfectly accompanied by the sundried tomato dressing. A bottle of white wine and an espresso washed it down but I was too full for dessert. The bill (without service) came to around €85.

I have eaten 3 times over the past year and each time i leave a bit more disappointed. Our starters were bland and rushed and though my friends steak was tender my african curry lacked any depth. The house Pinot Grigio is one of the nicest wines you'll find on a house list and as always its quite reasonably priced

Love the food, good selection that suits almost every taste and generous portions. The tables might be a little bit close to each other and it tends to get quite hot but still one of my favourite places and can't wait to go back.

This is one of the best restaurants in Dublin, and strangely one of the cheapest. The food is always beautiful, with changing menus always with something a little bit more interesting than what I find elsewhere. The atmosphere is amazing (it gets quite hot so be warned, you may come out rather more dewey than when you went in). It's chaotic and bustling, but the food arrives very quickly so they must have the system worked out pretty well.

If you are looking to impress someone with swank, do not bring them to 101 Talbot. If you are looking for a relaxed atmosphere and good food, this is the one. I am still thinking about that amazing butterbean and smoked onion dip served with pitta bread and veg crudite. And my John Dory in beurre blanc....I ate it so fast, I was stuffed for the rest of the evening and almost cried that I couldn't fit dessert...and what a dessert menu. You do feel that you are sitting in across between a classroom and a swimming pool but with very good service and very decent wine, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We booked a table for 4 on a friday evening just two hours beforehand and when we showed up twenty minutes early it was no problem. I would go back here with a group.

Visited the 101 the other night and was very impressed. The portions are of good size and the food is great quality. I had the salmon and my friend had the duck. Both of us were very happy. The only downside is that the menu could be a little more expansive and the atmosphere can be a little loud. Very good value overall.

This is a great place with a brilliant atmosphere. What I really like about is that they change the menu very often and the vegetarian options are always excellent. I really think other restaurants could follow suit instead of offering the usual penne pasta rubbish. Had a beautiful vegetable and filo pastry dish whilst my husband went for a curry. We had hummous, salad and pitta for starters, all part of the early bird menu. A great and unexpected find in Talbot Street

Was there for my girlfriend’s birthday last night. Wonderful is the only way to describe the whole meal. The food was served up practically and the portions were enough to satisfy those with a good appetite. I love the fact that the food is not dickied up and arranged to look like a piece of art all but missing its main requirement, i.e. to satisfy the taste buds. A three course meal, bottle of 26 euro wine, gin and tonic, pint of Guinness, and baileys coffee all came to €103. The volume of customers in the restaurant said it all. The service was excellent.

I'm surprised this place is getting such good reviews. My first impression as I entered the premises was not good; the place feels more like a cafe than a restaurant, with what looks like a hastily thrown-together interior. The menu was very unimaginative, but I opted for the salmon wrapped in filo pastry. When my dish arrived, the fish was raw in the centre; not the sort of slip that should be tolerated in a place that charges up to €22 per main course. My partner had a sort of vegetable curry - very sweet and salty; I detected a distinct hint of brown curry sauce. In fairness to the staff, they were very understanding and they offered us free dessert and did not charge for our drinks. However, overall, the menu (and especially the prices) does not fit with the venue, in my opinion. I won't be back any time soon.

You can't fault the early bird menu here. Decent, rustic dishes and always some fine vegetarian options. The confit duck leg is super and the cheesecake dessert is one of the tastier ones I've had in Dublin. It seems that everything on this menu is done quite well. Its not earth shatteringly special or anything, just a guaranteed good value meal that will leave anyone pleased. And thats rare in Dublin.

Even though we live 30 Kms away, we make sure to here a few times a year. Caters for a range of tastes. Excellent vegetarian options and lovely light starters like hummus and various spicey dips. The pasta options are really good value. Wine list is good and has draught beers (incl Guinness) also. Service always friendly and attentive. For years it was the only really good restaurant in the area.

An honest, good value restaurant in a part of town that needs it! I visited with a friend on a Wenesday night and we both enjoyed the meal and were impressed at the good value. The starters were a bit sparse (my Jerusalem artichoke salad seemed to have only a few grams of actual Jerusalem artichoke) but were competent. Mains (Pheasant and Steak) were also very competent and were properly proportioned if a little bit unexciting. Lubricataed with a bottle of Four Sisters wine and washed down by a pair of tasty French coffees the whole lot came in at under 100 euro, good value it has to be said.

We had pre-movie dinner here a couple of weeks back. It's amazing how the place clears out at 2030. The atmosphere is unpretentious and the service is very friendly. I had the breast of chicken which I would give 4 stars for, but my partner had spag bol which was pretty ordinary. Value wise it's ok. Overall not bad.

"College canteen it most definitely is" However saying that the service is very good, the food is not bad either and pricewise is fair enough. We went to 101 Talbot pre theatre and thats what it is probably best for. Reliable grub at a fair price, nothing to shout, or get too excited about. May go back in a couple of years, then again...

Ate here with some friends a couple of months ago. Really enjoyable meal. Everything was great, especially the white chocolate cheese cake. Decor is a bit out-dated. Must also mention that it's very reasonably priced for a Dublin restaurants.

The meal was nice but not too exciting or even memorable.... Not too mad on the decor - a bit collegey for me.

4 of us ate here for the first time after hearing many great things about the place. I always find that when your expectations are high you are let down and this happened to me. I thought it had a great atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. For starter I had humus with raw sliced veg and warm pitta bread and it was very good. For main I had the sirloin steak with green pepper sauce and it really wasn't a good piece of meat. It was like those frozen beefsteaks you get in the supermarket. I believe the monkfish was nice, 2 in the party had it and the other person had the pheasant which was also quite nice. There is a very strange set up with the toilets though, a member of staff has to buzz you in but they don't tell you this. I haven't really made my mind up about this restaurant.

I once had a work's Christmas party in the company's canteen where someone threw a bottle of wine over the CEO, a fight involving nearly every adult male broke out and I snogged the secretary. So imagine my delight when I entered 101 to find they had gone for the same motif! It's a little perturbing to find oneself at a works do when you've come out for a romantic meal for two so let me start by saying that this is not a restaurant for a romantic dinner for two. Too light, strange canteen meets refurbished swimming pool look to it and the cutlery and tray drawers are located so as to convey maximum school canteen noise back to the diners. Equally off putting is that every movement by the waitresses and waiters reverberates under the chairs and tables as they pass by. But hold on, let's give it a chance. The food was delicious. My black pudding and brie starter was a lot better than it sounds and my wife's pheasant was as succulent as any I've ever had. My lamb just melted in the mouth. The chianti was reasonable if a little pricey but we were vaguely satisfied by the experience. Friendly staff were also a pleasant surprise and we left feeling quite satisfied with the quality and quantity. The dessert menu however was a little dull and there is a limited selection all round but if you have a group of friends together this is not a bad choice. And if you fancy the Group secretary and hate your boss, I think you know exactly where to go.

I've eaten here recently for the first time in ages with 7 friends and nothing has changed. The food, service, drinks, atmosphere and desserts were all as fantastic as ever, and still very reasonable too! Definitely one of the best places for a decent, enjoyable meal in Dublin at a a good price!!

Honky location, decor that looks like an industrial unit so what's the attraction? Well it has to be the food. The first thing that hit me when we entered 101 was the buzz; this is definitely not a place for an intimate candlelit dinner for two. The staff were efficient and friendly, in fact one of the waitresses dropped a glass near our table and as she cleaned up the broken glass, another waitress came over to check if we had been affected. I had the cashew and sundried tomato starter which was delicious. For the main meal my partner had the chicken and I had spaghetti and meatballs, both dishes were excellent. When I was ordering dessert my partner said to me that she didn't want one but would try mine, the waitress very thoughtfully brought two dessert spoons to the table. The 101 deserves its good reputation and I'll be returning.

I have eaten here at least 3 times and each time I have had a great meal. They do a great value menu, I think it's 2 courses for around €20 - €25. The food is consistently good and the menu has something for all tastes. It's sort of Irish/European food, you can tell the quality is excellent and it's cooked very well. The place is always busy and the staff are efficient and friendly. This place is a sure bet, I think I'll go back soon.

I've been going back to 101 Talbot for the last 8 years since I came across it by accident. I think a lot of people are put off by its location, which is very unfortunate because the food is always very good and for a small place it manages to have a nice buzzing atmosphere any time I've been there. I was in again at the weekend and had a great meal as always, menu changes quite regularly so you get to choose something new each time (although there always seems to be a chicken/beef/pork/duck and veggie option at a minimum) and I can safely say I'll be going back sometime over the next couple of months.

The food here is really great. It was the first meal out that i really enjoyed in a long time. I had the butter bean dip served with a warmed pitta and carrot it was very tasty. My mum had the lamb which was so nice I wished I had ordered it. My Chicken was very good to but portion size could have been a little better. Great selection of desserts. We shared fresh fruit pavalova and it was very good.

I dined here recently and wasn't at all impressed with the night. I think the place lacks atmosphere, tables are placed too close to one another and the food is sub-standard for the prices charged. I won't be going back in a hurry!

I visited Talbot 101 on a Thursday night and it was unpleasantly busy. The waiters began taking orders before everyone arrived, and food arrived before some people had ordered. The waiters were so busy that the service was very impersonal. The food was fine, but the chocolate brownie was divine. Overall it was far too busy and rushed to be enjoyed and I would not return.

Our starters and mains were delicious, particularly the crab in filo pastry (the menu that appears on this site is not the current menu). As there was a delay in submitting our order, we were given a complimentary order of garlic bread with cheese which knocks spots off any others i've tried. Mains were very good too and ample portions. The dessert was the one real low point of the evening - avoid the pavlova like the plague. The cream tasted synthetic and the fruit wasn't ripe. There was a great atmosphere and lots of birthdays going on around us. Load up on starters, mains and wine and skip the dessert!

Agree with other reviews about the decor - not the nicest but the service and food made up for that. There were 9 of us and not one single complaint on the food. I opted for steak and it was the nicest I've had in a long time. Our waitress was very helpful too. Will visit again.

After walking past nearly every day, I finally ventured in, lured mostly by the Bridgestone Plaques displayed by the entrance. First impression was a little underwhelming, I wasn't really a fan of the decoration, I could see what they were trying to do but it didn't quite work for me. However after this initial disapointment, everything else was great. The food was very high quality, it wasn't just standard fare churned out, it was well cooked and presented. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Will certainly be returning.

I'm quite surprised at all the good reviews here. I thought that the service and perhaps the food is better in your average fast food place. The decor is appalling and was clearly an afterthought.

I had heard so many great reviews of this place that I was very disappointed when I went there and it didn't live up to them at all. I found the food was only average and the sevice was terrible in that they try to get you out of there as soon as possible. Don't think I'll be going back.

Never disappoints... A fantastic restaurant for a group of friends to eat.... We had a fantastic meal here on Friday evening before going to The Gate Theatre; service was impeccable and although they did not rush us they did ensure we were finished our meal in time for the theatre... The early bird menu is fantastic value at €21.00 and with wine our bill came to €33.00 each... Definitely worth a visit

In the heart of Dublin, it is nice to know there are a few places that still serve up value for money. Talbot 101 is just such a place. Went there not long ago with a good mix of people and I have to say, everyone was happy (including the vegetarians!). The food was super, the price was good and the service was fine. It isn't haute cuisine, it isn't pretentious and it isn't rip-off Ireland. Will definitely go again and again and again!

Brought some friends here a couple of weeks ago, and although the food was nice and it is reasonable, the service was just appalling - the head waiter told off staff in front of everyone. We asked for our bill 3 times, and waited 20 minutes for the wrong one to come (twice). This made us late for a show we were going to. When we went up to pay, the head waiter was making up bills and when I interrupted him so I could pay he informed me that he couldn't do two things at once. Everyone can have a bad night, but his rudeness was pretty spectacular - I definitely won't be going back.

Well well well, ate here not so long ago, setting is very good though you are stepping in off Talbot Street, nice food and food quality was high, always good for after work, normally full of old women, so men out on stag's beware.

I dined at 101 Talbot St last night, Tuesday and it was very busy, even after the Theatre goers left. Good atmosphere, shame about the lack of decor. Food was good - the dip that came with the starter was very nice, the veg for the dip had been prepared hours before and not kept fully fresh. Mains were nice followed by a tea/coffee. All for €21 which was good value, but there are little things that could be easily improved upon to makes this a little gem.

Went with a group of friends. Everyone seemed to really like their meal. The early bird is good value although a bit disappointing that their were no desserts included. I had the goat’s cheese crostini with wild mushrooms, which was lovely. Had the chicken dish then for my main and it was nice but the veg was a bit undercooked.

One of the only good restaurants in that part of the city, with a good choice for vegetarians and an inventive menu. Pity the atmosphere feels so crowded and the noise level is deafening. Good service.

I hear a lot of people raving about how great this place is and though I was less than impressed. The food was good but the atmosphere was distinctly lacking. For a start, the decor is terrible and not at all what I would expect from a restaurant, I felt like I was back in a school canteen, especially with how noisy it was. That said, the staff were friendly and efficient and the food was nice. It wouldn’t be top of my list for a night out though.

A group of 7 of us went for an early bird dinner here last Thursday - it was okay, but I didn't think anything to rave about. I had the spaghetti with salmon, which was fairly tasteless, although the cheesecake for dessert was very good. The decor is very basic, borderline cheap-ish and the staff not the friendliest in the world. Ok, but there are plenty of better restaurants in Dublin, so probably wont' be back in a hurry.

I went to 101 Talbot recently with a group of friends, it was very reasonably priced, however I ordered the couscous dish and I wasn't impressed, it was really dry and I couldn't finish it. I had heard really good reports but was very disappointed afterwards. I wouldn't go back after that occasion.

I went with a group of friends to this restaurant for the first time last Friday night. I thought the food was superb, and as stated by another reviewer, the choice for vegetarians was great. I've had two meals in 101 over the last two years and both were needlessly expensive and needlessly mediocre. The most recent was earlier this month when I was charged €55 for my share in a group meal. My starter -- Parma ham (€8.00), came with some thick salad dressing dribbled all over the ham which I then had to wipe off with a tissue, while my the sirloin steak (€21.50) which I had requested "very rare" and for which I had given cooking times to the server, still came out cooked medium. It also came with some mashed potato, which tasted like it had been cooked some days earlier. The sugarsnap peas were the only thing cooked properly. The wine was a very ordinary, the type that you can get abroad for under three euro, but appears on Irish restaurant menus for around twenty. At a price of €15 for this meal, I wouldn't complain, but at €55, I feel completely ripped off, a sentiment, which was echoed by the two of my dining, companions whom I asked.

I really like 101 Talbot. I've eaten there regularly for the past couple of years. The service isn't always with a smile, but then again, it's never out and out rude either. Although no huge effort goes into the presentation of the food, it is really tasty and this more than compensates for how it appears on the plate. It's very well priced and as the menu changes so frequently, you don't get bored. Definitely the place for a quick after work meal, but not for a romantic evening. Overall, highly recommended.

Ate here on Thurs 17/05/07, brilliant service, so friendly & attentive. Superb food, absolutely loved the warm salad of black pudding, blue cheese, shallots and spinach. All of the dishes were perfect. Prosecco at €25 a btl is great! Could not find any faults with either food or service or value for money. Other Dublin eateries could learn an awful lot from 101 regarding how service should be done properly! Will be returning here soon.

Had a lovely Saturday Night meal at 101 with a female companion. The restaurant has sort of a New York/Industrial feel to it- basic and lofty, which is nice. The menu is quite wholesome with plenty of 'healthy sounding' options. The wine list is very reasonably priced and has a decent selection. And, the waiters are hot! All in all a good dining experience and I'd recommend 101 for a night out with friends- nothing fancy but just what you need.

I found the food was excellent, but badly priced. It was far from value for money, but the quality was great and the service was mediocre. Nothing to complain about, but it was not a memorable experience. They do have a good selection of vegetarian food and a very interesting/original menu. However, the drinks menu...what drinks menu? It exists, but may as well not.

I’ve been to 101 several times, and I have to say every time I end up more satisfied than the last. Last night, I took my visiting parents, boyfriend and parents’ close four friends there and they all were amazed at the quality of the food. The starters are all very creative and delicious. The mains are not only superb, but the portions are very generous. And as for the deserts... They are to die for!! I could swear by the white chocolate and strawberry cheesecake... ;)

My husband and I had a pre-theatre meal in 101 The Talbot lately. Unfortunately, we ended up rushing the meal as we were waiting for friends who are always late and made the mistake of waiting for them to arrive before we ordered. The Early Bird I felt was pricey enough for two courses at 21 euro. As vegetarians, we were delighted with the choice of vegetarian food on the menu. We ordered a humus and butter bean starter accompanied by pita and salad. These were both delicious. We ordered two filo pastry Mediterranean vegetable dishes. These were fantastic and I would have enjoyed them more if we weren't in a rush. The restaurant itself is very big and a little warehouse-like but has a great atmosphere. Even though it was very busy on the night in question, service was very good. I would certainly return but feel they could lower the price of their Early Bird a little.

Here Tuesday evening and it was very busy. Surroundings are casual so not the place for a romantic meal or a posh outing but it does have a great busy atmosphere. Food was nice and service was efficient and friendly. There are a few vegetarian options on the menu so veggie folk are not tied to just one dish. Only complaint was that our waiter didn't know much about wine and when I asked what a particular white was like he told me it was nice with fish and that it had a picture of a lobster on the front. Dry or sweet would have sufficed but this wouldn't take from my overall opinion. On the whole I really enjoyed it here and will definitely go back.

After hearing so many great stories about this restaurant we decided to check it out for ourselves. Needless to say we were not disappointed. The food was fabulous; we had the duck and the salmon. Very tasty and perfectly prepared. The staff was very efficient and friendly. I’ll definitely go back again.

I have eaten in this restaurant a few times and it is just average. Prices have gone up a lot in the last year and the food it is still the same quality... Don't think I'll rush back :(

I went here with a group of girls from work. The atmosphere was nice and it was great for pre theatre. I ordered the soup for starters - don’t! It was cup a soup in a bowl. Everything else was great.

101 Talbot is the best restaurant in this price range in the North inner city. Unusual choices, reasonably priced - ideal for meeting up with people during the week. Decor is a bit left-bank (seats aren't the most comfortable) but a few glasses of wine and you won't notice.

A mixed bag. I have visited twice, both times in a large party. The service and food was great but the cramped conditions gave it a slight 'school canteen' feel. Good to try but I won't be rushing back.

I love this place. They must have taken on board comments regarding the staff, because I found the staff to be very pleasant and accommodating. We booked a table for two and when we arrived there were a few empty tables for two, so they let us choose our own, which was nice. The food was delicious and the waiter was attentive. We were the last in the restaurant, but there was no pressure to get rid of us. And at the end of it I didn't feel ripped off. I have been here a few times and will definitely be coming back again.

I agree with another reviewer who said that the staff were disinterested as I got that impression too - not rude exactly but they certainly weren't going to go out of their way for us. The atmosphere is a bit cafeteria like too and it's not really romantic meal territory. But, on saying all that I would go back again on the basis of the food alone. You won't get anything too fancy here (it aint 'posh' grub!), but what you will get is nicely made food that's good value.

Ok so it’s not very swish and the decor is a bit rough but the food's as real as it gets........ No floury thickened sauces and a menu that changes every time I go.... all in all if you're a snob avoid this place but if you know your food then you'll love it!

Returned recently after a few years away from here and wasn't overly enamoured. The organic ingredients & original menu design are still there, but I was surprised to be unimpressed. Has the food slipped, or have Dublin food standards in general moved on so much as to render the 101 Talbot ordinary. Unfortunately the old cafeteria atmosphere hasn't changed either. We had to order water a few times before it arrived and to be honest I wasn't impressed with the disinterested attitude from service staff. Will probably return again for pre-theatre sometime as the restaurant is fast and good value... but so is Sheries on Abbey Street. Eek.

Food was nice but I was slightly disappointed as I heard it was amazing. Good value for money and great atmosphere. Staff were pleasant. Overall a nice experience - good for an early bird or pre theatre rush but maybe not for a special night out!

I was in a party of 18 and I have to say we had a lovely meal, the staff were very friendly and the food lovely. I would have liked more choices on the menu but overall very good. The decor is ok nothing to write home about.

One of my favourite places to eat in Dublin, the food is amazing and you can bring a variety of people (fussy and foodie) there and know they will find something they like on the menu! Love the art as well. The only problem I've ever had was an annoying waiter who couldn't seem to get his head around girls tasting the wine/paying for dinner when there's a man at the table to do it but he seems to have disappeared so it's all good! Great atmosphere, great food and a nice wine list.

This place used to be THE place to eat but recently the whole thing has become somewhat of a disappointment. A tad expensive, the food is alright but nothing to set the world on fire. Better value to be found elsewhere.

Absolutely wonderful - home cooked food without the washing up! I love the varied menu & different ingredients - forces me to try something different rather than going with the same boring choices time after time. Wine list not great, but adequate. Perfect place for a meal after a days shopping or before a trip to the cinema. However, I would not recommend for a 'romantic date'! Word of warning - booking essential!

101 is the biggest disappointment in Dublin! I had heard rave reviews about this restaurant from a quite a few people, but when we actually dinned there, I was really gutted, as it was terrible! Needless to say I haven’t ventured back since! The decor of the restaurant is appalling and the menu is terrible, it definitely does not cater for everyone! I also think for the quality of food that it is serving it is well overpriced. This restaurant does not warrant the rave reviews.

Great city spot, especially for group nights out. Buzzing atmosphere, paintings on the wall that you can buy, great wine list and yummy, hit-the-spot kind of food and friendly service. Highlight of the night? Being given complimentary umbrellas as we left!!

Dublin's best kept secret, (I shouldn't be letting it out). Great food at prices most people will struggle to remember never mind match. So it's not plush, so what! It's friendly, the food's great and the service is better than most anywhere else in Dublin. You gotta love it.
