Fantastic pub/restaurant and although a bit of a drive to get to, well worth it. Midweek evening and terrible weather but inside there was a great athmosphere and banter. Had Lobster and Prawn Tempura. Lobster was done in a thermidor sauce and was perfect. The batter on the prawns was not quite tempura but good nonetheless. It's quite pricey but does not seem to affect the popularity of the place. If you are holidaying in West Ork, wel worth making your way to Castletownsend

lovely old bar in picture perfect village on the sea. I had garlic chilli prawns and fish and chips, decent plaice for the fish. Food is good, but atmosphere and location are the winners here. Not cheap but worth it. Lovely host too. One to get to in West Cork.

Overpriced and overrated. Had been recommended this restaurant by a friend and was seriously disappointed. Starters came out within 5mins which suggested to us that they were not freshly made. Main course was ok - risotto not cooked properly, still dry in the centre. To top it all off service was terrible - waiter didn't seem at all interested, forgot 1/2 our drinks order (even though it appeared on our bill) and didn't offer us dessert! All in all a very disappointing evening!

overall an excellent slection of fish. My lobster was amazing even if it was 36m euro!! and we ate at the bar. However the side orders did not appear to befreshly cooked. the veg &mas had that heated up in the mircowave taste to them.

Not as busy as it used to be. Strange menu - very Asian. Not sure if the chef is though.
Have been several times in the last year. Mary Anns is a standard 'you must go' place in County Cork so it does tend to get complacent from time to time - some dishes are indifferent as is the service from time to time but overall it's one of the better places to eat in County Cork. Which doesn't say a lot....

Castletownshend is a gorgeous village with not much except Mary Anns! The seafood here is excellent and really fresh however a bit expensive considering the basic salad accompaniments - could do with nicer leaves and dressing! Well worth a visit - especially when the sun is shining!

This place is a real jewel in West Cork. We are regulars here during holiday times and we have never been disappointed. It can be expensive if you go for the top-of-the-range dishes but there is excellent value at all levels of the menu. My advice is to skip the starter or else share one as the main courses are humongous. The sides of cheesy potatoes, mixed fresh veg and chips come with everything. The seafood starters are excellent (a full meal in themselves) and, as well as the fish dishes the steaks and lamb dishes are great. Try to leave room for one of the delicious desserts. Drink and wine prices are pretty good and the maitre d' is a larger than life character who goes out of his way to welcome everyone. Nice gallery of paintings also.

Our base for the week was Kinsale - the self-styled "gourmet capital of Ireland" - but this lunch was superb - easily beating several meals we had down the coast.
The pub specialises in seafood and it was great to eat lunch in the sunshine in the back yard.
A simple starter of salmon, smoked only a couple of miles away at Union Hall, was superb. Flavoursome without an overpowering smokiness. Another starter brought a small seafood salad including prawns, crayfish, crab, mussels and smoked salmon. Both came with brown bread and Marie Rose sauce.
A main of salmon fishcakes and salad. High ratio of salmon to potato. Good lunch dish.
One of the best dishes eaten in a long time was cod wrapped in Parma ham and roasted. This came with grilled peppers and asparagus. Just fab. And perfect for an early summer’s day
Also on the table were bowls of chips, mash and mixed veg. A treat at €70 including drinks.
