This is very average for food, and the service wasn't very good. I had to ask for several things that should have been on the table. When the waitress went to refill the water jug she lifted it from the table by putting her finger in the jug, then returned with the same jug. A lot of basic things were wrong with the service.

Ate here as part of a hen night. We all found the food to be absolutely fab. The sea bass was beautiful but the highlight for me was the orange cheesecake-divine.

Weekend visit to Kinsale. Seafood chowder was really pretty good, but not 'spectacular' which were what my expectations had been raised to. Definitely hearty, seafoody and wholesome - just not enough schmack to it. I had fish n chips for main, the Long was absolutely delicious, generous and mouthy! Very very pleased with that Sadly it came with regular freezer chips and not the great wedges of homecut fries my husband had with his fillet of seabass. The lady who served us was warm, tremendously helpful and professional. Very enjoyable evening and there was live music throughout which wasnt invasive. Certainly good value and content to recommend for a reliable pleasant meal.

Lunched in the Blue Haven on Good Friday last. It's a day that's hard to find somewhere good to eat, as a lot of places close but we were surprised at how busy The Blue Haven was! That was until we remembered the "hotel licence" and realised alcohol could be served! To start I had the famous Blue Haven Chowder that i've heard so much about. Priced at €7.50 a bowl, it was one of the more expensive chowders I've had, still it was very good and flavoursome perhaps a little on the brothy side for my liking but certainly wasn't lacking flavour and plenty of white fish. Served with a nice, light soda bread this would do addequately as a light lunch option. To follow I had the supreme of chicken, served on a bed of creamy mash accompanied by some mashed carrots and also some roasted veg. The chicken was served with a delightful mushroom cream sauce and very fairly priced at €15.50. To wash all this down I indulged in a glass of Pinot Grigio and I gladly noticed it was a generous glass of wine, which is hard to find these days! The menu overall was very varied with a good choice of fish as you would expect in Kinsale along with steak and chicken options. The service was efficient and professional and very prompt given how busy both the bar and restaurant were that day. On my way out I noticed a sandwich menu on the wall which I hadn't noticed on my way in so will definitely return to sample this too. Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable experience in The Blue Haven, highly recommended.

I ate in the Blue Haven Hotel during a short break in Kinsale. The food was very average. I ordered the monkfish special which was supposed to be served on a bed of asian greens. It was actually served on a bed of limp greens with huge chunks of ginger throughout. As much as I love ginger, it is very unpleasant to bite down on a large chunk! I would have thought a chef would know this. The overall experience was ok so I wouldn't rule out a return visit but I would certainly try out other places first!

The sun was shining on the day i visited, so i ate outside, unfortunetly the only outside eating area is also the only smoking area. I ordered a quich chicken caesar salad, when it arrived(very promptly) the lettuce was limp from overdressing, the chichken sat on top in little cut strips. The crutons were deep fried and soggy leaving an oily aftertaste down my throat. There were pieces of undercooked chopped streaky bacon to add to my indigestion. This was not a very pleasant experience. The saving grace was the glass of lovely sauvingnon blanc. To cause greater stomach acid, the bill arrived, at 18.95, very steep, considering the bowl not very deep and filled with less than appealing "salad". Not very good at all.

Top marks! Stayed in the Bluehaven Hotel last weekend - and on Saturday night we dined in the restaurant. Really really good. The service was excellent & food was really lovely. Was brought a lovely big selection of breads & butter to start. I had the duck for my main & it came beautifully presented & was excellent. Couldn't recommend this place highly enough - definitely a high light of my trip down to Kinsale.

It was my second time in this restaurant. Its tastefully decorated and had a good atmosphere. I was really impressed with the fish&chips the first time and the cheesecake was to die for. This time around though, the chicken salad was just ok with the bacon pieces being really salty. My partner had the steak sandwih and said it was ok. The cheesecake this time was different, it seemed to have been kept in the fridge too long and the apple pie was way too sweet. It was dissapointing.

My friends had the fish in beer batter and chips it looked plentyful and nice they said it tasted really good. I had the most delicious homemade veg soup and brown bread it was really really good just like my mums and that is saying something (just don't tell my mum i said that). Its good. make sure you have the battered fish and the soup

A restaurant with pretensions in the town’s “boutique” hotel. It clearly targets Kinsale’s many American tourists and they would find familiar touches uncommon in many European places – jugs of iced water being brought without being asked, soup available in “cups” as well as bowls – that sort of thing.

The young and efficient staff brought menus, offered aperitifs, brought good brown bread, etc.

A starter of potted crab came in a good sized portion and was well flavoured. However, it had either sat out in the kitchen for too long or only just been made as the butter had not set. Not at all a “proper” potted crab - this was just crab in melted butter. A large bowl of seafood chowder was a bit better. A creamy, but under seasoned broth with small bits of salmon, indeterminate white fish and mussels.

One main was of roast cod with a German potato salad. This was good cod. The potato salad served warm in a dill and spring onion vinaigrette – don’t know why it’s called “German” (perhaps meaningful to Americans). Anyway, the potatoes were slightly undercooked making it less than pleasant. Good side salad.

The second main was lamb noisettes. These were correctly cooked to pink but poor preparation in the kitchen had left them untrimmed of sinew. Cutting and eating was unpleasantly hard work. A dish of vegetables had a good mix but also needed some more care in the kitchen. “Al dente” mangetout are lovely; “al dente” parsnips just nasty.

A chocolate “mudpie” was an American style brownie. Came with a very good bitter chocolate sauce and cream. The other dessert was very average ice cream. We finished with espressos.

Including the aperitifs and a half bottle of wine, the bill came to €105. This was poor value for the meal as it stood. There had been sloppy cooking with insufficient attention to details. It wouldn’t take much effort to really improve the place – but they are probably not bothered.
