My partner and I recently stayed for 3 days at An Sugan. Unfortunately we were too later to try the evening menu on the night we arrived but the bar was packed on a Wednesday night and the smells from the kitchen were delicious. The bar food menu was not as exciting but my soup and sea food pie were just what the doctor ordered after a hectic night before at a friends wedding. As we never got to sample the evening fair the star of the show of our stay was the breakfast in the B+B on each of the 3 mornings. Home made brown bread accompanied by cereal and yoghurt followed by a hearty full Irish breakfast with plenty of tea or coffee. The lady who served us was probably the nicest person we have had the pleasure of meeting anywhere we`ve ever stayed. Thanks again we`ll be back.

Called here Sat afternoon apx half 5, menu wasnt very exciting but apparently we were too early for the evening menu which might have been better. I got cod in batter with chips, the cod itself was nice but the chips were frozen ones and not even cooked properly, still hard. My partner had the chicken with stir fried veg and potatoes that had obviously been stuck in the microwave. Service was very fast once they eventually took our order even tho when we arrived we were the only two there. Desserts were gorgeous, strawberry pavlova and creme brulee, couldnt fault them but certainly wouldnt be rushing back for the main course!

I cannot say I was impressed. The vegetarian option was extremely poor. My friends had mixed reactions to their food. The service was ok but not particularly friendly. I wouldnt hurry back.

We ate here last Tuesday. The seafood is very good but my wife's duck was extremely poor. The poorest I have ever seen in a restaurant. The waiting staff while efficient are neither friendly nor especially helpful. The restaurant is drafty and cold. The dining area is extremely stark and it is clear no thought has been given to how pleasurable it is to eat at a table here. The first and second courses arrived on top of one another and the wine list is short and depressingly short on choice. If drinking white, you had better like sauvignon blanc or chardonnay. I had an adequate demi-bouteille of Chablis. We also took lunch here on Monday and recommend the chowder highly.

Popped in here one Sunday evening on spec, delighted with the food! Service is a little slow alright but food is excellent. Had a lovely chowder to start, full of flavour, followed by a perfectly cooked steak accompanied with a nice fresh side salad & gratinated potatoes. I find An Sugan a little on the pricey side but their food is excellent, there is also a good choice, one of my friends had the goujons which looked very homemade and my other friend had a breast of chicken stuffed with black pudding - to die for, absolutely fantastic. I'd the dark chocolate marquise to finish with a coffee, excellent. Will definitely go back as there is a superb range of choice that i can't wait to start on! Lovely old traditional ambience in the bar and the guy who seems to be in charge is a very friendly character.

4 of us went to An Sugan for Sunday lunch. We arrived in at 2 o clock. And it was busy enough. We sat at a dirty table as the man said he would clear it for us. This did take some time for him to do, but he was very friendly. It took a bit more time to get menus and to place our orders, so that was a bit annoying. i think he was a bit understaffed as he said he didnt think it would be as busy in there. Food was nice. 2 of us had soup and one had chowder. the other two loved it but i thought mine was a bit too creamy(just a personal preference really). i also had chicken goujons with chips and a garlicy sauce. They were lovely. 2 of the others had lasagne which was also nice but one thought it was a bit too garlicy. and the other person had fish and chips which he said he loved also. The food was great, but service could have been better. The staff were friendly and helpful so it did make up for it a little bit. It was a nice pub, old fashioned and somewhere i had eaten in before. i would go back if i was in Clon some day.

The food was lovely, I had lasange which was really nice, but very strong in garlic. The restaurant/pub is a lovely place, lots of old items which gives the place character. The service was only alright on the day, the bar staff were very friendly but felt we waited a while to be served and receive menus. Have been here a few times now, and food has always been good!

Not bad but not great. I had the chicken goujons which in fairness were delicious but my partner had the lasagne. As an obsessive lasagne eater he was very dissapointed at the small size of the lasagne and it was clear that it had reheated to the extent that it was a bit dry at the top. The sugan is a lovely traditional irish pub and the staff are friendly but it needs a little bit more effort to be given to the food.

A bit overpriced but food was georgeous. Had a fish pie which was absolutely magnificent and my girfreind had a platter of varius fried seafood which was also delicious. The staff didn't pay too much attention to anyone in the venue and we felt like they don't really care, which was a bit disappointing. Well worth a visit just because of the food and Irish pub/grub atmosphere.

Great seafood with good portions! We chanced across this place on the recommendation of the tourist centre in Clonakilty and I have to say, this is the best seafood I've had in Cork, at reasonable prices and very good portions. I had a scrumptious Crab bake dish (special of the day), which had loads of crab, my friends had huge portions of mussels (literally a mountain of mussels) for 12 euros and 2 big pieces of cod for fish and chips. Everything was very fresh, and we thought it was very good value for money. There was a less ample choice of appetizers though and service wasn't great. We had to ask for the complimentary bread and butter; and had to ask twice for some ketchup. However I would still recommend it to anyone visiting West Cork as the seafood trumps the poor service.

We have eaten here several times and always find it very good. Most recently dropped in about 7.00 on New Year's Eve and it was very busy. The manager is a bit of a character (fancies himself as a singer) and found us a table in the bar (The atmosphere is much better in the bar than in the restaurant). We just had a main course. I went for the breast of chicken stuffed with salmon (delicious) and my wife also went for the chicken but with blackpudding stuffing. Both courses were excellent and the different sauces on both our meals were delicious. There is a blackboard menu in addition to the a la carte but my one complaint is the lack of any flexibility with this menu. For example, while there are various potato sides available, you can only have fries with the rib eye steak unless you pay extra for spuds.

This place came highly recommended by an extreme foodie friend of mine. I have to say it was "nice". The service was okay, the food was good but it wasn't anything special. I had chowder which was a bit weak on the favour, I then had cod for my mains which was very tasty but my fiance had the seafood bowl which was smoothered by too much dill which completely ruined what could have been delicious. Overall, we were disappointed mostly because found it to be far too expensive for the quality of food, service & atmosphere.

This restaurant was a firm favourite of myself and my husband until we last ventured there in June. The service was dreadful and the food not much better. It seems that all of it's previous high standards have upped and left. Really disappointed as it was always a regular stop off on holidays.

Ate at An Sugan two days ago while travelling back from a weekend in West Cork. Had heard this was a great spot for seafood. Both my boyfriend and I opted for the traditional fish of the day with chips. We were served two fresh pieces of mouth watering fish in a light, freshly cooked batter. It was a simple but satisfying meal. The only down side is the atmosphere in the restaurant which borders on canteen at times. But in terms of food, this place was spot on.

A group of us ate here on Saturday night. The food was fantastic and great value for money. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed everything from starters to dessert - we went for the works! The staff varied from a very friendly gentleman to a gruff regimental lady but she got the job done so we won't let her manner get in the way of a great night had by all!

Very tasty food here and excellent service. Bustling pub with great food. Also very central location. Can't wait to get back down to Clonakility to pop in here. Their desserts are very good - can recommend the sticky toffee pudding and the bread and butter pudding. The seafood basket is good as well - it comes in a sauce. I was worried that it might have been fried fish, so no need to have worried!
