Originating in 1938, the Unicorn Restaurant has been running under the present management and ownership of the ever charismatic Giorgio Casari for 16 years. The Unicorn owes its success to his attention to detail in the many Italian influenced European dishes that are on offer. The Unicorn’s warm, modern and informal environment have stood the test of time where diners come to soak up the ambience and enjoy the live music and relaxed atmosphere with their meal. The Unicorn menu still consists of the favourite dishes that it has always had on offer like, Dublin Bay Prawns Provencale and our secret receipe Calamari Fritti as well as many new seasonal flavours brought on board by Award Winning Executive Chef Lorcan Cribben.

Myself and my friend went for an early bird to the Unicorn last Friday, it had been a long time since I dined there so was looking forward to it. When we arrived (6oc) I was very surprised at how empty the place was, a definite sign of the times as this place used to be packed on a Friday night even if it was early. The early bird is good value at 20 euro, we had poached pear salad and calamari to start which were very nice, then chicken and the hake and although the portions were very small it was enough for us and quite tasty. Had a bottle of wine and 2 expressos and the bill came to 67.50 euro. The only down side of the meal was the hovering waiting staff, we had just taken two sips of our wine when they were back to the table filling our glasses up again. In fairness when we said we wanted our bottle left on the table and we would pour ourselves, that did stop but when we finished our starters and mains our plates were taken away at such speed it was incredible. Wouldnt be in a rush to return as there was little atmosphere in the place and the hovering of the staff was quite off putting.

Came for the set menu with friends overall had a great night and really enjoyed it. Staff were great, good choice on the set menu but one drawback was the portion sizes - you wouldnt want to be starving or have a big appitite but I guess thats reflected in the price! I had the calamari salad was surprised that they were not breaded but was tasty all the same, others had soup very nice. Had the hake for main very tasty but not really enough for the main, chicken looked good too. Really enjoyed the night and we werent rushed to leave even though they were extreamly busy which is always nice

The Unicorn is where we always want to go when we feel like having an exciting night out. There are always so many interesting people to look at in this restaurant. Am not sure of what date we went but it was in last 2 months. Atmosphere was great as usual. Food was lovely. Service was good without being great. Value was good. Overall, it is hard to put my finger on it but there was something missing on the night. It didnt compare with the many wonderful nights and lunches we have had here. This was a pity as we havnt rushed back since then. However, I feel and hope it was just a blip on the night and that this restaurant is probably well back to it's former glory by now. We will be back.
