Early afternoon visit to this packed pub. Food was very good, soup was really enjoyed by everybody. Kiddy fare pretty standard. Open sandwiches were delicious. Service was excellent.

Recently spent a long weekend in Bantry with my wife and children. Popped into the Snug for a midday pint - really just to discover whether we might come back for an evening meal. The menu was mid range but the couple of punters that were scoffing large 'buckets' of mussels convinced us and that evening at 7pm back we came. We found a table, received menus and ordered drinks for all. Five minutes passed before a waitress came to take our orders, she took the starters order first, placed same with the kitchen and then returned for the remaining orders, this is where the trouble began. When ordering three full portions of mussels we were met with a deadpan "all the mussells are gone"...when I commented that this just didnt seem right in Bantry (known for it's mussels) at only 7pm on a Friday evening I was met with a very sarcastic "everybody runs out of things" following which she walked away from our table. Well after a brief chat where we agreed that yes we had heard correctly and my older children said that they would prefer to eat "anywhere else" I cancelled the first order, our 'friendly' waitress appeared completely unconcerned either way as I then paid for our drinks and left. Thankfully all of our other dining experiences were great, coincidentally the following day I overheard two women walking ahead of me having a conversation about the very same waitress in the Snug and the manner in which she had treated them - I could'nt repeat what I overheard them say !!. I can only guess at how such a person, is to be employed in the hospitality industry.
