I’m not a fan of Asian restaaurants in the “West”. By that, I mean Europe and the US. Be they Indian, Chinese, Thai or Japanese, I am almost always guaranteed a disappointment. We’re all familiar with the neon orange concoctions, the thick, bland wallpaper pastes, unexciting puddles of grease and the hard, glutenous lumps of rice. I really have had enough. I’m tired of being overcharged for mediocre fayre. I’m fed up of that unpleasant bloated feeling I get from a dish thats been poisoned with MSG. When using fresh ingredients, MSG is completely unnecessary. On a recommendation, we went for dinner at the China Sea restaurant in the beautiful Bella Vista Hotel, Cobh. The building is steeped in history. We were seated promptly, and may I say, the service was efficient. I was uninspired and unexcited by anything available. The usual, generic fayre was on offer. I ordered Kung Po Chicken, and the others ordered Roast Duck Cantonese Style and a King Prawn Curry. M dish was flavourless and flat, the curry was okay at best and the duck was totally overcooked, and had been deep fried not roasted. I am disappointed in a restaurant, that despite their gorgeous location, with its stunning views, they serve food unworthy of such majestic panorama. My appetite for Asian restaurants, remains at the bottom of the China Sea.

I enjoy authentic ethnic cusines and thought I would try this Chinese restaurant. The staff were very helpful and friendly. I enquired as to what the resturant's spiciest dishes were and was given recommendations immediately. The food was quickly prepared - which is to be expected considering the main method of cooking is stir frying. One dish that was ordered was a Prawn Szechuan. The amount of soya sauce however was too high in the dish and it was mild in flavour. The saltiness of the soya sauce overpowered the other spices in the dish. The other dishes we had were delicious however but not spectacular. But my main gripe with this restaurant was not the food. In general, the food was very tasty with a good selection of fresh vegetables. I wished to eat with chopsticks. But was informed by the staff that the restaurant doesn't have them and isn't planning on supplying any. I was astonished. A Chinese restaurant that doesn't provide chopsticks as an option to cutlery. Unbelievable! This seems an oversight of the owner/management. People nowadays are well travelled and exposed to new cultures, food and skills. Chopsticks don't cost much! To me, it's ridiculous that a modern Chinese Restaurant fails to provide such a basic yet important piece of Chinese heritage and culture.

Had a lovely meal here last Saturday. We started with a very nice and very plentiful Meat Sung. Mains were a Chicken Satay and a Duck Combination which was a carnivore's delight ! The restaurant itself is a bit bland and could do with some additional colour on the walls. But the food and staff were excellent. Would happily eat here again.

The food is excellent, a little bit more expensive than other chinese restaurants in the town but worth the money. The take away is especially good value for money as there's probably enough food for 2 from each portion. Staff are very friendly and the service is prompt without the feeling of being rushed. Definitely worth a visit

I have eaten here several times and always enjoy the food. The service is quite good. Take away is great too. However many other people I know were not so impressed, but personally I never had a bad experience
